That's two two six seven to one zero eight.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
So as we left the airwaves yesterday, one of the
last things I mentioned was the fact that the ACC's
got their new.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Athlete.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
What's it called, dak Navit I did it again. I
can't remember the name of that thing.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Anyway.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
It's the participation list, you know, who's active for the game,
the status report, whatever you want to call it, about
the players that.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Are in or out of a ballgame.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
And the reason that I brought it up was because
I truly felt like when you look at this Clemson
Louisville game and you consider the matchup last season, it
wasn't just one reason that Louisville won that game, ok.
(03:01):
But Isaac Brown was a huge reason that Louisville won
that game. He was a big part, arguably the biggest part,
in a thirty three to twenty one victory over the Tigers.
Brown rushed for a hundred and fifty one yards in
the game. And the kid has a lot of wiggle,
(03:24):
quick as a hiccup, and just tremendous. Not to mention
he had a forty five yard run in that ball
game for a touchdown. Twenty carries one fifty one average
seven point six yards per carry.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Well, that the ACC release.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
That comes out before the games availability report. There, it
came to me finally the availability report came out, and
we knew going in that Isaac Brown had been banged
up and he did not play against Cal and we
(04:11):
did not expect him to be reported as available. And
it wasn't going to shock me if he wasn't listed
on the out part of this initial report. But I
figured he'd be unquestionable or probable, and I would have
likely leaned that he would be questionable to even turning
(04:32):
into being out by the final release. Well, that news
came down last night. The initial report was released and
Brown was not on there, which if you're not listed,
that would mean you're you are available, And so I
(04:55):
tweeted out when that news came out right at eight o'clock.
I was like, I guess we'll see if luis there,
it is I did it. Louisville running back Isaac Brown
is really healthy this weekend. He's not listed on their
initial release. I thought it might have been some gamesmanship.
(05:16):
I thought it might have been Jeff Brohm just trying
to make Clemson worry and focus more about him because
of what he did against the Tigers last season. Well,
the release comes out, and on that release, they've got
quarterback backup, quarterback Travis Egan out, running back Jamarics Wilder out,
(05:40):
linebacker Trent Carter out, running back Samaia Gates out, and
offensive lineman Tyler Fullmore out. They have defensive lineman aj
Green questionable, defensive back Teyone Holloway questionable. And they've got
(06:00):
stan Kwan Clark their linebacker probable. And that's a big
pick up for them if Clark can play. I will
tell you that about stan Kuan Clark, but no Isaac Brown,
and so waiting to see and we'll get to who's
out for Clemson, but waiting to see what the reports appear.
(06:21):
The response from that, I looked at him and see
anything about it, and then it came let's see at
eight forty seven, So about about forty five minutes after
the initial report came out, Louisville Football tweeted University of
(06:45):
Louisville running back Isaac Brown was inadvertently left off of
tonight's injury report. He will miss Friday's game versus Clemson meeting.
Isaac Brown is out and that could not be better
for Clemson. Louisville fans not excited with that news. Clemson
(07:09):
fans very excited about it. And look, does it shift
this game into Clemson's favor No way? But does it
give Clemson a better chance to win this game? You
dog gone right it does. As a matter of fact,
(07:31):
that spread dipped. Remember Louisville had a three and a
half point spread. It dropped to two and a half
point favorites overnight with that change. And so this matchup,
which is monumental for Clemson's chances to make it to
(07:52):
a bowl game, but for Louisville. You think about the
season that the card could be piecing together. You know,
when we look around the Atlantic Coast Conference, like, I
see an admire and respect the job that Tony Elliot's
done at Virginia, but I don't look at them as
a continuing threat. And maybe that's me being a little
(08:14):
bit narrow minded, but I could see where Georgia Tech
could become a continuing threat, and I could see where
Louisville could become a continuing threat. The Cardinals face Clemson
this weekend, then they go to SMU next weekend, and
(08:35):
then they've had their final game and their rivalry matchup
against Kentucky, and if they were to win all three,
they could be ten and two. And I don't think
based off the way the college football playoff look right now,
a ten and two Atlantic Coast Conference team is going
to be in. But they would be at that point
a ten and two ACC team with two overtime losses.
(09:01):
You could say Louisville did not get beat in regulation
this season if they beat Clemson SMU in Kentucky, and
they could do that. But Isaac Brown being out has
moved Clemson back into a much more positive position because
he is such a valuable asset to this Louisville Cardinal offense.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Now.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Miller Moss quarterback has been really good for them this
season twenty one and thirty two yards passing and eleven touchdowns,
but his biggest issue continues to be the turnovers. He
has seven interceptions already this year. He had nine a
year ago. He was a better quarterback for them a
(09:49):
year ago when Clemson faced him, but he's been in
the system. He's a steady ball player. He's he's not
you know, he's not a guy that is just gonna
blow you away.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
But he's he's kind of like.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
A sewing machine, not too exciting, but gets the job done.
And so Miller Moss for the Louisville Cardinals this season,
the senior six to two hundred and ten pound quarterback
leads the way. As for the running back situation, I
really don't know enough about all of the pieces that
(10:31):
they will lean on in this ball game. I can
tell you that in the cow game when Isaac Brown
was out, Kewan Brown got the majority of the carries
fourteen attempts for one hundred and thirty six yards. That's
an average of nine point three seven per carry. He's
(10:55):
a kid this season that has carried the ball sixty
six times for four hundred and fifty seven yards with
six touchdowns. And if you simply compare that to Clemson's
backup running back, which is currently Gideon Davidson. And we
(11:16):
have an article up on our website right now about
freshman running back Gideon Davidson. I mean Davidson's had thirty
seven carries for just one hundred and forty nine yards,
no touchdowns. I mean the backup running back at Louisville,
Kean Brown out of Atlanta, Georgia, has nearly better stats
(11:44):
across the board than Adam Randall, same amount of touchdowns,
slightly fewer yards on nearly half the carries, and so like, Look,
he's not he's not Isaac Brown, okay, but statistically speaking,
(12:07):
he's about as close as you might get. But it
will be a drop off for sure, because again it's
all the things that we talk about with the backups
and the reason they're backups pass protection, Maybe you lack
the same skill set catching the ball out of the backfield.
(12:28):
I mean, there's a lot that kind of goes into
it for each and every one of these players. I
was looking at Brown's reception numbers. He's really been utilized
slightly throughout the season, but he did have a big
thirty eight yard reception against Boston College, and so we'll see,
(12:51):
you know, how all of that works out.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Now for Clebson.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
On the other side of the injury report, here's what
we're looking at. And I would say that it's at
this point not ideal because first and foremost we know
the defensive line has had issues all season. But one
of those guys that's been a bright spot, Steph island Green,
(13:17):
he's questionable. That's probably good that he's just questionable. I
would imagine Steph island Green probably plays given that at
this point. Probable is interior defensive tackle Devonte k Part,
which we actually had the story up on him a
couple of weeks ago, and then safety Ricardo Jones also probable.
(13:37):
Now safety has been an issue. Ricardo Jones has been
an issue, not solely, but the position in general has
been an issue. Ricardo Jones, although has made some plays
this year defensively for Clemson, but just looks a little
uncomfortable at times, a little inexperienced at times. So questionable
(14:00):
island Green probable, Ricardo Jones and Demonte k Part that
would already send a little bit of a a little
bit of a hit to that defensive line group, and
you would normally say, no big deal, like in a
normal season where TJ. Parker's just a menace to quarterbacks
(14:22):
and the coordinators across the country, and you know, guy
like a guy like Peter Woods is just clogging up
the line like like a drain. You might look at
those injuries that injury I port and well, you know
it is what it is. But man, two defensive tackles
down two of your guys and your rotation. I think
(14:43):
they'll play. But either way, you know, not an ideal
circumstance for Clemson, but everybody's banged up. It's mid November
now out obviously, Bryant Westcoat Junior, you knew that. Jarvis Haynes,
excuse me, Jarvis Green and Jay Haynes. The two running
backs are mind Mason Logan Anderson, Billy Wilkes, Elijah Thurman,
(15:08):
Michael williams Lee and Easton. Where all of those guys
are out. And an updated status reporter availability report from
the Atlantic Coast conference will be released tomorrow. That kickoff
or excuse me, will be released tonight. And that kickoff
is tomorrow at seven point thirty up in Louisville, Kentucky
(15:31):
on Friday. You can watch that game on ESPN, depending
on how you watch it. And yeah, we're still in
that situation with YouTube TV, and I think it was
Jamal the other day that recommended sling, you know, and
I even said that one of the reasons that I
still have my YouTube TV right now is because of
(15:53):
my NFL Sunday ticket, and I did look into it.
I can't cancel. I can't cancel and not lose my
NFL Sunday ticket until January fourth, so I'm in this
thing for another another month and change. But I did learn,
you know, and I don't know where you guys will go,
(16:14):
but if you're a Sunday ticket person, I did learn
that you can actually purchase the Sunday ticket as a
solo entity on your YouTube account, not YouTube TV, just YouTube.
You can get the NFL Sunday ticket. And you might say, well,
how would I watch all those games on the Sunday, Well,
(16:34):
you just open the YouTube app on your device, And
that to me is the you know, is the thing
that I'll do next year, assuming that, like, if ESPN
and YouTube TV get this worked out and they don't
bump my bill up. I mean, if they can come
to a consensus and not make me foot more of
(16:58):
the bill, I'll stick with them. If not, I love
YouTube TV, but I I probably would have to leave.
But anyway, as we sit today, no deal done on
that front. The government got the shutdown figured out faster,
(17:19):
faster than YouTube TV and ESPN could get their thing
figured out. Well, maybe not technically in days, right, not
in days, but I think most of us believed that
our I think most of us believed that our ESPN
would be.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Back by now.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
How many of you thought you'd missed three weeks potentially
of the college football season because of this? And it
honestly couldn't be in a worse time for the sport.
I mean, it could not be at a worse time
for the sport. And some of you will say, what
do you mean by that?
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Swanee.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Look, I hear from a ton of you about how
this game isn't similar to the game that you love
because of nil and players getting paid, and so all
some people need is one more reason not to tune in.
(18:20):
And the fact that ESPN and YouTube TV, or Disney
and YouTube TV are going head to head makes more
people go, you know what, I don't really care about that.
I don't really care about it, and I know that's unfortunate,
but that's the facts. And you're not going to lose
(18:46):
the diehards, and you're likely not gonna lose those individuals
who went to the colleges that are playing okay. But
there's a group out there that's looking for a better product,
and the product that has more consistency in their rosters.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Is the NFL.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
And I think college sports is going to have to
not only recognize that, but they're going to have to
figure out how to make it so that these students,
these individuals, these student athletes can create more consistency across
(19:35):
the rosters so that fans can feel more invested, more
invested in the product, and not having it on your
television for three straight weekends cannot help at all. All right,
eight three, four, five zero zero eighty six Weather Quick
Break will come back with more right after this, And hey,
don't forget Tim Burray joins us in our number two.
(19:57):
Keep it locked, Lawton swam back with you on a
Thursday afternoon again, college football tomorrow night, your Clemson Tigers
taking on the Louisville Cardinals on the road. Earlier this week, though,
we caught up with William Qualkin Bush to get his
thoughts on Clemson's win over the Duke Blue Devils. Here's
a portion of that a portion of that conversation. I
(20:18):
almost put interview and conversation together together and created a
new word called the inversation. So here's our inversation with
William Qualkinbush. I don't want to be rude to the Tigers,
but the twenty four to ten victory over Florida State
just didn't jump off the page to me, Qualker. I mean,
it felt more like that's how bad Florida State is
(20:39):
than how good Clemson was.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
You know, I don't disagree. I would say I would
say that's the accurate way to look that's like the
truth way to look at it. Clints, they got out
game hot forty one yards, they got out first down,
Florida David slightly better on third down. They average more
yards per came, the yards for play, all that stuff.
(21:02):
There are two things that Clinton did that Florida State
did not. One is the Clinson stuck to their scripts.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
I felt that first of all. I felt that it
was a little bit of a trick spot from Florida State.
And and here's the reason why Florida State, we know
is if their offense is predicated on the run, no
question about it. Well, Clemson space really nothing but passing quarterbacks.
I mean they had enough base a mobile quarterback. Haines
(21:29):
King is one of the leaders in the ANC rushing.
But that's between the tags. That's like a powerful run game.
That's not really a guy that's gonna like roll the
pocket and stuff like like Catalanas. This is more of
a traditional like dual direct quarterback type of game. Hue
takes an yard about his arm. Well, Clinton had been
susceptible to deep shots through the air, but not necessarily
(21:53):
to the ground game. Really, Syracuse the only team that
like lined it up and ran it hold Clintson early
in the football game. So Florida State. Hey, I guess
I understand if their game plan was, you know, to
throw the ball a little bit more and to be
a little more aggressive that way. But they threw forty
three times their backs I believe combined for like eleven
(22:13):
carries in the game. Like I think at a time
they combined for five.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
That is not the way to be clinching. I'm sorry,
that's just not clinchon stuck to their script. Mean while
clinching damaging like three yards to carry, but they ran
like thirty six nns that they kept running. It kept breaking,
they said, Adam Ramdall, they say, getting Davidson. Even when
they're not getting bunch of yards, they're getting tough yards.
You know. The third, medium, third, I can say second, medium,
third and short were rundowns a lot of the time
(22:39):
in this game, and look, sometimes do they need to
run it better, Yes, but I actually felt good about
the balance that they had and the fact that they
really they didn't abandon the run. How many times this
year the Clemson forget about the run in CONTINGENTUS games,
seedy games where maybe they were ahead at the time
because they just weren't that effected down for now, Well,
they just sort of stuck with it. And the way
(23:01):
to Florida State a team guy just the super woch
stick with the round. Cabell Or Water did not. So
that was the first thing. The second thing is Clinton
made the winning plays like Florida State. What It's amazing
all year long, team's been playing their best game in
Memorial STATEY, Troy, Syracuse SMU Duke played the best game
(23:21):
in Memorial Statey. You know, some of those cases inarguable,
a couple of them might be arguable. But I mean
they're just playing clean, good, clean football without a lot
of mistakes, and the few mistakes they did make, Clinton
didn't making pay for Florida State. Finally, a team shows
up doesn't play well. It's amazing. Just statistically, it was
about time that some teams showed up and didn't get
(23:43):
off the bus playing well at Clemson. The Florida State
plays poorly. But then here's the thing. Clinton, at every
available moment twisted the Knights Clemson. Yeah, I mean the
turnover the inside of the ten or whatever in the
red zone. Right, they're about the teen yard line where
Jereminia Sander gets recovery. They pluned it right back, but
that was the you know, balls on the ground. Clemson
(24:04):
recovers it, Floria State goes for it. They drop a
path on fourth down. What is cmsed to do? Two
plays later they score a touchdown. Clemson scores a touchdown
in their opening drive. They stopped Florida State. Clinton, Clemson
stops Florida State coming out of the locker room, goes down,
kicks a field goal. Every time Florida State screwed up,
Clinton made them pay for it. Uh And and that
(24:25):
has not been happening. Teams have been getting away with
the few things they've done wrong against Clemson. Again, that
didn't happen on Saturday, And that's one of the reasons
why they love not just because Florida State played poorly,
but because Clemson, even though they didn't play great, they
made winning plays. The moments of the game where it
was won. Clemson made the winning plays and Florida State
(24:46):
simply dismissed all the winning plays in the game.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
William qualkinbush with us here on a Monday. The other
thing too, right, like Swingey and the Tigers very aggressive
going for two. I mean, were you surprised when that
play happened?
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Yeah, I was a proud I was surprised they went
for to especially the first time. Now when Davos says
they saw in a film, I mean, you can see
the alignment like it's there. If you block it right,
it's there. And he said after the game, he said,
you know, somebody missed something because it's gentleman a walk.
I mean, he shouldn't have been hit at all. I
think somebody was supposed to double somebody or get off,
(25:20):
maybe get off a double team and go kick out
with somebody. It didn't happen regardless. Clay Sweeny got the
very tip of the nose of the football over there
and he go up eight nothing. Hey, you know what,
that's critical moment. Once again, that's a plate that Clinton's
not been making. You know that the path of chap pinographs.
People are talking about I don't know whether it's a
good call or not a good call. I tend to
(25:41):
think when you're doing conventional stuff down all the way
down the field, you shoot conventional stuff to try to score.
But be that as it may, if it works, it's
just a little bit of an iffy car and questionable call.
It works, it doesn't work, And now it's one of
the reasons that he lose the game, Swanny, And in fact,
that maybe no reason you lost the game if you
just convert that play. So you know, did they need
(26:04):
to do that, No, But the fact is they made
the play. Cleinson's just all year long, they have not
been making those plays that Ian Shefflin plays. They've not
been making them.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
It's just it.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
They've been trying things to try to spark them and
other than the double pass, like the flu key, the
razzle dazzle, stuff they tried to do just has not worked.
And so that was again, that was another example of Hey,
Florida State didn't play great, but Clemson took a risk,
they took a chance, and they executed and it worked.
(26:36):
And that to me is a big, big part of
why Clinton was able to win this team comfortably because again,
that's a moment where Florida State, if you stop that
two point conversion and then you go down and score,
then you're up seven to six, and Clinton is chasing
after that two point conversion all game more or less. Instead,
it felt like Florida State was chasing after the extra
(26:58):
point all game long, and they never found it. And
that again is a position at Clinton has not been
in this year. But they found themselves at a time
and time again and successfully executing in those spots on
Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
All right, there you go for all you hour one listeners,
just a little bit of our conversation with William Qualkinbush.
You can catch the rest of that in the Monday
podcast edition of the program, simply known as the pac
Man Returns Edition.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Go check that out.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Of course, we also were joined by Mart Packer that
day as well. All right, quick break, we'll come back
with more from Clemson. Right after this, Lawton Swan Clemson
Sports taught the Show that Shakes the south Land, or
as they said in the olden days, the Show that
shake at the south Land. And speaking of shaking the
south Land, man, I'll tell you alumni, haul right there
(27:47):
on the corner of campus on College Avenue of downtown Clemson. Oh,
shake up your wardrobe with Clemson gear. Go check them
out next time you're up there again. For all your
officially licensed Clemson merchandise hats teach Tel gay gearin Moore,
go check them out online at alumnihull dot com as well,
or if you're in store or in person, remember this
(28:10):
Clemson students faculty in all military get ten percent off.
It's Alumni Hall where Tiger fans shop. Speaking of being
up in Tigertown, as I mentioned, we're gonna step up
there and hear Clemson left tackle Trustan Lee.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Lee's had an up and down year and I'm.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
So disappointed because the documentary that Clemson put out about
the offensive line preseason kind of gave me this feeling that, man,
with all the returning players, as long as everybody stays healthy,
and they haven't all been healthy.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
That's one part of it.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
But I really thought that that group would do a
good job and probably dominate against a lot of defensive fronts.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Instead, we've seen the opposite.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
We've seen defensive fronts that have gobbled these guys up
left and right, which is disappointing. Now it hasn't been
all season, but there have been leaky issues all over
the place. Conversely, with Clemson's defensive line, I think you
thought you were going to see those guys being this
menacing force and you haven't seen that this year either.
You need it on both sides of the ball in
(29:13):
tomorrow night's matchup against the Louisville Cardinals, no doubt about it.
Forget about the situation with Isaac Brown being out for Louisville.
The bigger deal for me, regardless of circumstance, is Clemson's
offensive line and defensive line winning it in the line
of scrimmage. You gotta do it consistently there, and they
just have been inconsistent all season on both sides of
(29:37):
the ball. Either way. Here's Tristan Lee again. I talked
about guys being banged up. Here's Lee talking about his
return last week to that Duke game, or excuse me,
his return last week to the Florida State game after
being out for that Duke matchup.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
Oh yeah, absolutely, you know I you know, I do
anything for my brothers, and like you said, you know,
trying to go in the valley and get a win
and get my team everything I can to try to
contribute to that. So that was my mindset. Whatever it
takes to win, go win and get everything I got.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Remember, Tristan Lee was a former five star offensive lineman
and just kind of been waiting for him to emerge,
and you thought this would be the year. The documentary
certainly made me think that it would be that type
of year for him, but it just flat out has
not been. Here's Tristan Lee talking about the emotions that
have come with this season and because it's been difficult
(30:43):
on these guys.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
Uh, you know, obviously obviously tough, obviously, you know, up
and down. But you know, we we all made a
commitment to this team long before the season, and you
know that wasn't We're going to be committed if everything
goes right, and you know, nothing ever goes wrong, We're
(31:05):
committed to this team.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
And that's my mindset.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
I'm I'm uh yeah, that's I'm grounding that I love
my teammates, I love this school. And it didn't didn't
change my mindset. Obviously, you know, some some disappointing moments
here and there, but uh, you gotta keep keep stacking
and get ready for the next opportunity, you know, we
(31:32):
got Louisville this week, so my folks on Louisville.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
And Dabosweeny acknowledged that Lee was one of those leaders
of this clubs the Tiger team, trying to bring them together,
help them stay focused and really circle the wagons, if
you will, And he was asked about what verse he
shared with his teammates to help them stay committed and
grounded as this season is sort of falling through their hands,
(31:59):
like saying through, like saying up through the hour glass.
Speaker 6 (32:05):
Well, you know, I'm a big light movie guy, Like
I love watching movies, and I don't know.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
If an y'all have seen Fury So World War two movie.
But uh, with.
Speaker 6 (32:17):
The character Bible in the movie, he you know, they
get they get to this point where they can keep
moving on and leave the there's like a German battalion,
Uh that was gonna cross through the bridge that they
were protecting and posted at.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
And they could have kept going and left it for
the next group.
Speaker 6 (32:41):
But you know one of the uh, his name is
Bible in the movie.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
I believe the character he just talked about.
Speaker 6 (32:48):
He said, and then the lord said, like who shall
go for us?
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Who were seeing?
Speaker 6 (32:55):
And he's and then Isaiah said, here him harm I
sent me, and I think that's the mindset. And I
told it to the guys because you know, like you
said it. You know, the season hasn't gone how we
all imagine, but you know this is this is this
is my senior year and I wear that.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Paul with pride. I wear all that.
Speaker 6 (33:19):
With pride, and you know I don't I didn't want
to wait until next season another team to to earn
respect for for Clemson and anything like it's us. Like
I told them, like, you know, it wasn't one hundred
percent going to the game, but I said, you know,
I'm gonna be there battling.
Speaker 7 (33:39):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
And that was kind of the message, like send me
as in the team, like let's go fight. You know,
let's go fight. You know we're not gonna win the
national championship, that's just it's.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
What it is.
Speaker 6 (33:50):
But we have a lot of things to fight for,
so let's put it put on the line and go
fight for it.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
And that was my message.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Man.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
I mean, look, he hasn't played the best this season.
His group, his unit hasn't played the best this year. Golly,
don't you have to love hearing a young man, and
I know these guys are making a lot of money. Golly,
I wish I could have been an athlete. Let me
tell you, if I would have been growing up, if
(34:20):
in nineteen ninety I would have known that college football
players could make the money that these guys are making,
right like in nineteen ninety five, if we had these
kind of deals, dude, I would.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Have been training so hard to play football. It would
have been ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
So I know that sometimes what gets lost now because
of the financial particulars is that they are still young men.
But don't you want young men like that fighting for
your team regardless of the ups and downs. Tristan Lee,
all right, we'll come back. We'll put a bow on
our number one. We'll hear a little bit more from
Lee and his time with the media from earlier this
(34:56):
week up in Tigertown. To get a three four to
five OO zero zero eighty six. That is the text
line in the phone line. Keep it out right here
on Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred and around the world
on the iHeartRadio app final Sament about one coming up.
Tim Bray joins us ahead of Clemson's Friday night affair
against Louisville, Isaac Brown being out the running back for
(35:18):
the Cardinals. We'll certainly talk about Clemson's victory over Florida
State and Tim being on the field and getting what
appeared to be a little bit emotional about his induction
into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame. And I can
only imagine what that moment is like for him being
there and being recognized with eighty thousand people, you know,
(35:41):
congratulating you on the work that you did and all
that you accomplished during your career. And you know, part
of that job and part of that responsibility was organizing
the players that we got to talk to over the years.
And we were playing before the break. Tristan Lee, Clemson
(36:01):
offensive lineman, and he was asked about the opportunity to
play in a bowl game. I mentioned this yesterday talking
about South Carolina, the possibility that maybe some guys don't
play in the Clemson game if they were to lose
to Texas A and M. Maybe that's a possibility. But
(36:23):
what about guys like Tristan Lee, and you have these
high expectations for the postseason, what if you know, the
postseason being of course, the College Football playoff but what
if it's just a bowl game. Here's Tristan Lee talking
about that.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
Absolutely.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
I mean, I don't ever, I don't take I don't
take a single day for Brandy here that I get
to strap it strap it up with my brothers. And
you know, you know that's there's been a streak of
us having bowl that abilities back to nineteen ninety nine.
I'm sure he talked about that, but you know that's
a responsibility to keep that going and I absolutely plan
(37:06):
on doing that.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
So and for Clemson, man, this ought to be a
reason to be locked in. I mean, like, if you're
a Clemson fan looking for a reason to believe that
the Tigers will win this game against Louisville other than
Isaac Brown being out, it's that these guys know, do you.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Want to be the team?
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Do you want to be the team that matches that
nineteen ninety eight team of not going to a bowl game?
Is that what you want to be? And to a man,
I'm sure it's no. And to a man, I know
that they have to know that they've got the talent
to compete and beat these teams that remain on their schedule,
(37:45):
and if it clicks, they're a dangerous team. I'm telling you,
if it clicks, this Clemson team is dangerous. Here's Tristan
Lee talked about the improvement of six foot eight offensive
lineman the freshman fellow Braden Jacobs.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
A lot.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
I mean, you know, just just foundationally, like he already
had a lot. Like he's very you tell, he has
a lot of great a great support system and a
lot of good people in his corner, uh to keep him.
You know, he's a very humble, hard working kid. But
you know, I think specially with O line, experience is
a huge thing. So I think, you know, he got
(38:23):
to get some experience.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
And I mean he's playing great football.
Speaker 6 (38:28):
Like I mean, he's a big he's a big dude,
and he's just so talented.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
But he has stuff that you can't coach and you can't.
Speaker 6 (38:36):
Teach as well, like his hard his efforts want to
I think those things, combined with his talent, make him
really special. I mean he's a great guy. So you know,
I think he can be whatever he wants to be.
He probably didn't really.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
He was also asked about the commitment level that he
felt like he's seen from bringing Jacobs to learn multiple
positions on the op some line. Of course, Jacobs was
able to move inside and play at left guard this weekend.
Dad Bosweety said he doesn't think he'll ever play center,
And I get it, man, you don't see six foot
eight centers. You really don't see a whole lot of
(39:13):
six for eight guards. But either way, here's Lee talking
about the commitment that he's seen from Braden Jacobs.
Speaker 6 (39:22):
I mean just I mean even having to you know,
he had only learned left tackle and then you know
he had to go in through inside and left guard,
and you know, he was just guy. I told him
I had done that in twenty three versus NC State,
and like I could just tell his care He's asking
me stuff like what do you feel like helped you
(39:43):
doing that NC State we twenty three? Like when we
you know, we watched that game back and stuff like that,
you know, and he just cares like he wants to
retain as much as information, as much information as he can.
It's important to him. Uh, Clemson's importing him. And yeah,
like I said, like he when you mix those things
(40:06):
with his talent, you know he's gonna be a He
already's a special player, but he's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Great final thing from Tristan Lee. He was asked about
Clemson making their change at the end of the season
because of the retirement of Clemson's strength coach Joey Batson
to Dennis Love, who's.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Currently on the staff.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
And here's Tristan Lee talking about his thoughts on coach
love work.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
Oh, d Love, he the man.
Speaker 6 (40:37):
I think he does a really good job of having
a relationship with you.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
In sense like he knows he can push you, and
he knows.
Speaker 6 (40:46):
How each guy kind of operates and can meet you
where you're at.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Like it's not a it's not a blueprint where I.
Speaker 6 (40:53):
Just say this and this, like, you know, he he knows,
like Okay, this is what makes him to you know,
this is you know when I see this and this
guy I need. I know he needs a push er,
he needs encouraging. It's important to him. He's he's an
emotional like he loves football and training everything about it.
You know, seeing him specifically work with the d line
(41:13):
these last couple of years, Like I mean, the growth
that they've had and you know, they they they buy
into it, and he makes it really easy to buy in. Obviously,
he has a impressive pedigree to like he's you know,
he's been on a super Bowl team. You know he's
trained all these players like he's gonna do.
Speaker 5 (41:33):
A great job.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
That's Clemson offensive line in Tristan Lee A zero three
four five zero zero eighty six. You know, Lee did
have another great response talking about the teammates and their
level of buy in. We didn't have time to squeeze
that in in this hour, but looking at the clock,
we might can do it in what I call the
(41:59):
seventh segment of the program, which comes up not just
after Timberray, but the following segment after that. Speaking of
Timberrey on Twitter at timber Ray, go follow him today,
he joins us right around the bend to talk about
your Clemson Tigers, this past weekend's victory over Florida State,
being on the field, being inducted into the Clemson Athletic
(42:20):
Hall of Fame, all that and more.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
When we get when we get back, stay with.
Speaker 1 (42:23):
Us, it's time for Clipson Sports Talk with Lawton Schwann.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
It is our number two.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
That's drivetime, rightdy, We're on the show The Shakes of
south Land Clemson sportstal Log.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Swinding out with you.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
On a Thursday, getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving, getting
closer and closer to Clemson in South Carolina, just a
few short weeks away. Tim beras here each and every
week talking about your Tigers and hanging out with us,
giving us the inside scoop on everything going on in Clemson,
(43:36):
in the athletic department, out of the athletic department, everywhere.
Tim Bray joins us. Tim, welcome in. Man, what a
weekend for you of ben Tiger Town. We had your
good buddy Mark Packer on earlier in the week to
talk about getting a chance to dot the I and
your induction into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame. Congratulations again.
(43:59):
I know we talked about it earlier, but man, what
a night for you there in Death Valley.
Speaker 7 (44:05):
Yeah, thank you a lot.
Speaker 8 (44:07):
And it was actually a great weekend. We had an
induction ceremony.
Speaker 7 (44:12):
On Friday night in which we got our Hall of
Fame jackets and are very nice black and we interviewed during.
Speaker 8 (44:25):
That program, and then Saturday at the game had to
be introduced on the field with a big graphic on
the scoreboard. So that was kind of fun. So something
I've never done before.
Speaker 7 (44:38):
I always was in on.
Speaker 8 (44:40):
The field at the end of the game with the
head coach. But I never went down at halftime in
some of those things. So it was a unique experience.
It was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Yeah, And it certainly has to mean a lot to you.
I mean, everybody that listens to this show knows your
love for Notre Dame, but your time and experience at Clemson.
Certainly you built a ton of relationships and love that
university as well.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Was it an emotional moment for you?
Speaker 7 (45:07):
Yeah? Absolutely, you know it was kind of I spoke
to a group of Clemson people at Solby's, which beats
before every Friday before home game, and I actually got
more emotional there because I decided to talk about all
the people who really had a positive influence on me
(45:28):
when I first came in nineteen seventy eight, and you know,
there were not there are nine people in the Ring
of Clemson Ring of Honor who were either active athletes
or coaches that first year I came. So I came
during a great era, and so I kind of reflected
on Coach Howard and Banks McFadden and Barbara Kennedy and
(45:50):
Terry Canard and Jeff Davis and doctor Edwards and all
those legendary people I got to work with when I
first came here.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
Those are some names that will be etched in Clemson
lore forever, and certainly Bob Bradley, your mentor as well,
and in your name to Tim. Somebody said to me
this week. It may have been Will Vanderboard I was
talking to about it, and just you know, I think
it is hard for all of us to appreciate what
(46:22):
our contributions have done for Clemson University. But let me
tell you that, as somebody that has followed this program
since I was a child, you have been a huge
part of my experience and my knowledge and everything that
I've got. So I want to thank you personally for
what you've done for me, not just on the show
every week, but throughout my life when I was reading
(46:43):
the media gods and all the little tidbits about Clemson sports.
Speaker 8 (46:48):
Well, I thank you very much.
Speaker 7 (46:49):
And I'm interesting you said that because I told a
story at that speaking engagement about how the term the
most exciting twenty five seconds in college football came about
was actually from a pregame meeting forty years ago before,
not before before a Clemson the Georgia football game when
(47:13):
Brent Musburger was here for the first time and Bob
Bradley was relating to him that story and that you know,
Brent Musburger never said that on the air, He just
said it privately to mister Bradley at that meeting in
Death Valley when.
Speaker 8 (47:29):
Mister b was explaining to him about the tradition. And
it was mister Bradley who then publicized what he said
and we put in media guides and all that, and
so that was just kind of an example of what
a person who's the sports information director can do for
the you know, really boost the tradition and the brand.
Speaker 5 (47:51):
Of a.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
School.
Speaker 8 (47:53):
And so I tried to emulate mister Bradley and follow
him his footsteps along the same way.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
And one of those moments for a lot of people
in their mind will certainly be the Heisman Trophy campaign
for CJ. Spiller, if I'm not incorrect on that front,
where you know, you guys had like the life size
posters of Spiller really kind of pushing his campaign forward.
And I don't know that it was unheard of at
that time, but it was certainly something new. And this
(48:24):
would have been for our listeners who might be just
following along with Clemson in recent years. This would have
been well Clepson certainly in their own mind, was on
that national scale, not to the level that it is today.
Speaker 8 (48:37):
Yeah's interesting you bring it up.
Speaker 7 (48:38):
So we actually did a life size poster for William
Perry in nineteen eighty four, so I resurrected that twenty
five years later for CJ.
Speaker 8 (48:48):
So that's actually where we got that idea.
Speaker 7 (48:50):
But yeah, that really took off. We distributed it through
you know, we had all kinds of different NCAA rules.
We actually sold the William Perry post for five dollars
a piece, and actually it that poster paid for itself.
We spent about ten thousand dollars on the printing of
it to print four thousand of them. We sold two
(49:10):
thousand of them for five dollars a shot. So we
got our ten thousand dollars in cash and one weekend
selling it at the game at the Duke.
Speaker 8 (49:19):
Game in nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 7 (49:22):
And then the NCAA course said we couldn't do that
now today, of course you could do that with the
nil you know, we could sell that poster and and
make money on the on the deal. But yeah, we did.
We get that, get that spread around the country, and
you know, CJ had a great year and he finished
(49:42):
sixth in the Heisman voting. It's a shame we lost
five games. He you know, he did pretty well to
be on a team that's lost five games and and
to finish like he did in the Heisman. But that
was a fun project. We really enjoyed doing it.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Tim Bray again on Twitter at Tim Burray and he
joins us every Thursday and this past weekend against Florida
State twofold, Tim, I feel a responsibility with this show
to always be honest with my listeners. I think if
Florida State had played better, Clemson probably is in trouble.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
In that game.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
I really felt like that victory for Clemson came down
to more about Florida State getting in their own way
than Clemson, like knocking down some proverbial door to win it.
But either way, at this point in the season, with
the way it's gone, I'll take w's. However you have
to get them. What was your takeaway from watching Clemson
in Florida State this past weekend? And you look, you
(50:39):
don't have to believe what I believe, right, you could
tell me what you thought.
Speaker 7 (50:43):
Yeah, you know, I don't know what I said it
on the radio, but I did kind of think that,
you know, Florida State probably got every break they could
get for the whole season in the Lumpton there win
over Alabama, and maybe the same thing happened in reverse.
Speaker 8 (50:59):
In that they didn't get any breaks or.
Speaker 7 (51:02):
You know, they didn't take advantage of some opportunities like
they did against Alabama.
Speaker 8 (51:06):
In the first game.
Speaker 7 (51:07):
Obviously, there were three huge pass plays that were either
overthrown or are dropped that you know they could have
put a different I don't know they would have changed
the result that it was going to be a two
touchdown deal. Once You've got to remember how conservative Clempson played,
certainly the last fourth quarter because we had a two
(51:29):
touchdown or seventeen point lead. So that affects how you're.
Speaker 8 (51:32):
Going to play and how much risk you're going to
take off offensively. So you know, if they have scored
another touchdown or two, you know, we might have scored
another touchdown or two also, right, But yeah, you do,
I did. You know, certainly came away that they made
some mistakes that they certainly didn't make when they beat Alabama.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
Well, and now you turn your attention a short week,
you bounce back, You're traveling up to Louisville.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
And my thing is this.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
I kind of felt like after that Florida State game,
I said, you know what, I'm glad this louis of
games on Friday. I'm glad it's a quick turnaround. I
think Clemson needs to carry as much positive momentum and
as quickly as they can get back out there.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
Probably a good thing.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
What do you make of the quick turnaround because some
seasons you don't really like it, but I'm all for
it right now for this group.
Speaker 7 (52:18):
Yeah, that's probably a good point that after you had
something positive happened that you, uh, you turn around. It's
always a little bit tougher though, for the road team
to to play on the on the Friday night because
you don't quite have as much prep time because the
road team's gotta I mean a team left today at
a one o'clock or whatever, and and Louisville will be
(52:40):
uh will be at home with a full day where
they can you know, prep for the uh for the game.
But uh, you know, we've seen a lot of upsets
on Friday night games and Louisville is going to be
the favorite going into this game, so you know, we'll
we'll just have to see what happens. As far as
looking at fill know and evaluation. You know, usually they
(53:03):
have Friday Sunday. It's probably tougher for the coaches than
it is for the players because the players usually take
sundy off. In this situation, they were looking at film
and and actually had a practice on Sunday, So the
overall time that they put in will probably be be
(53:24):
the same because he will.
Speaker 8 (53:26):
Not have taken.
Speaker 7 (53:27):
A day off.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Well, in the news yesterday when the ACC put out
their availability report, didn't have Isaac Brown running back at
Louisville on that report, and I was like kind of stunned,
to be honest, and then I thought, well, maybe, you know,
I don't know what the rules are on those availability reports.
I thought maybe he's a little gamesmanship from Jeff Brohm.
And then about forty five minutes later, Louisville's official football
(53:50):
account tweeted out, no, no, no, we just made a mistake.
He is not going to be playing in this game.
And he was a kid that burnt Clemson up a
year ago in Death Valley, So you know, you never
want anybody to be hurt, but it certainly helps Clemson
that Isaac Brown is not going to be playing in
this game on Friday Night.
Speaker 8 (54:07):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 7 (54:07):
He is a terrific player at on in fifty one
yards against this last year. He was a difference maker
last year. He's been a difference maker in some games
for them this year. Although when I did the interview
with coach be Tween this week, he did point out
they got two other running backs who are pretty good.
You know, they don't have the experience of playing against
(54:29):
Clemson that they that they that Brown has. But but
he did to dabble just to relate. He did say
that stopping the run was going to be the key
to the game, no matter who isn't running back for
for Louisville, and that we're really going to have to
defend the perimeter better than we have this year.
Speaker 5 (54:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
Ironically, the other running back, or one of the other
two runbacks, last name is Brown.
Speaker 3 (54:53):
Kewan Brown, I think might be.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
Their second leading rusher this year, averages six point nine
yards per carry. I mean, his numbers a are very
comparable to what we've seen from Adam Randall for our
Clemson listeners to give you an idea, has actually been
more efficient than Adam Randall for Louisville, their backup running back.
So again, Tim Ray with us here, and you guys
have a busy week because you're gonna be flying tomorrow
(55:17):
to Louisville. And then the basketball team is taking on Georgetown.
And I haven't checked to see if Ben sent out
the notes yet, but has Clemson ever played Georgetown in basketball?
Speaker 7 (55:27):
Yeah? Actually in Hawaii at the Rainbow Classic in two
thousand and four, five season, I think, But yeah, Georgetown
beat us in Hawaii that year. Was a really young
Clemson team in Oliver Bernell's the second second season. So
but that's the only time that the two schools I've met.
(55:50):
And so yeah, we'll be going up to play in
the in where the Wizards play, and so.
Speaker 8 (55:59):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure it will be a great crowd.
Georgetown's kind of on a resurgence. They get the coach
from Providence who's now their head coach, and and they
also already have a win over Maryland, so they've they've
already been they've been tested more than we have so far.
So it's this will be an interesting game for us
(56:20):
on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Well, and you and I talked about this Clemson basketball
team last week after their their opening game of the season,
and you'll just kind of looking at them now a
few weeks into the year. Do you have any big
takeaways thus far? The thing I think I said this
to you last week that I really like. I feel
like they've got a lot of different personnel groupings and
the way they can play. But you know, right now,
(56:43):
I don't know who I would kind of quantify as
the leader of this team, but I think we'll get
some emergence on that front at some point.
Speaker 7 (56:52):
Yes, I would. I would agree with that. Although I
think Dylan Hunter is the leader, he might not be
statistical guy or score the points that It's interesting We've
played three games and three different players have been the
leading score Only Ace Buckner has scored in double figures
in all three games.
Speaker 8 (57:12):
But the encouraging thing I see, of course, is.
Speaker 7 (57:14):
You've got ten new players on this team, or ten
different guys who didn't play last.
Speaker 8 (57:20):
Year, guys were around the program before. But we only
have fourteen turnovers in three games for a sixty to
fourteen assistant turnover ratio so far, which is amazing. That's
the fewest turnovers to the first three games of the
season in Clemson history. And to do it was basically
a new roster. Is pretty amazing to see how onceelvers
(57:42):
these guys are and how well they play together.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
Yeah, and he's you know, talking about Dylan Hunter his
efficiency and assists a turnover ratio, you know, like you said,
he's not like scoring big numbers, but setting guys up,
not turning the ball over, really doing a solid job there.
And and it's kind of surprising because him, I don't
think that I would have labeled him as that type
(58:09):
of ballplayer when he arrived at Clemson.
Speaker 7 (58:11):
Yeah, he's actually the Clemson career leader in the sister
turnover ratio and this year he has no turnovers in
sixty five minutes. Is the starting point guard. So that's
that's that's pretty amazing stuff there. Yeah there too. So
and he's and he's a solid defensive player up on
the point.
Speaker 8 (58:30):
So yeah, he'll I'm sure he's gonna get challenged by
by the Georgetown guards this weekend. But yeah, he's he's
been off to a good start in that regard.
Speaker 7 (58:41):
Probably Buckner is the biggest surprise however, I mean, uh,
you know, we know what his dad did, so.
Speaker 8 (58:49):
We know what's in his jeans. But you know he
has to start it. He's come off the bench, eats
game and to Gordon double figures three straight games off
the bench league team the first night, and he's a
shot fifty eight percent from the field overall, a lot
of them on drives to the basket, just like his
father did.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
Tim Bray again is on Twitter at timb Bray. All right,
just a couple more minutes, Tim, final thing, Let's go
back to this football game again Tomorrow night, seven thirty
ESPN Friday night game though always weird. Thursday night game
is always weird. The environments. I don't ever think you
can replicate what a Saturday night environment is. You can
get close. What do you expect this will be like
(59:31):
for Clemson heading up to what is a very good
Louisville team in terms of the environment and the fans
it'll be there.
Speaker 7 (59:37):
Oh, I think it's to be a very difficult environment
to play. I mean, Louisville is a kind of like
a pro sports town, like an NBA's Sportstown. I mean,
you go to one of their basketball games and it's
It almost reminds me of being in an NBA arena, and.
Speaker 8 (59:55):
I think that kind of carries over to football. I
think you really embrace the Friday night game, the night game.
I think this is their third Friday night game of
the year, maybe not all at home.
Speaker 7 (01:00:07):
But they'll be uh, they'll be fired up. And as
we saw a Saturday, I think the getting off to
a good start is going to be very important to
try to limit the impact of the Louisville crowd as
much as possible.
Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
Yeah, there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
And then I guess final thing just from the standpoint
of maybe some of the things that you think Clemson
really needs to do, like what would be a couple
of keys to this game in your opinion for the
Tigers to bring home a huge victory, because I don't
think you want to go into the final two games
of the season needing to win both of them to
become Bowl eligible.
Speaker 7 (01:00:41):
Yeah, I mean, and talking to Dabble, clearly he feels
stopping the run is going to be the most important thing.
Louisville averages one hundred and fifty six yards of game rushing.
Speaker 8 (01:00:50):
We certainly need to just hold them under that. I
think we're going to need to hold them to about
one hundred and twenty five. I think it's going to
be very important to get pressure under quarterback Miller. Moss
is not as agile as what we saw Castellanos, and
we did sack Castellanos six times in the second half.
That was a huge reason to Florida State didn't score
(01:01:11):
touchdown in the second half. So I think we're gonna
have to try to do something as similar. I think
Terrell is gonna have to have a great game in
the secondary if he's gonna go head to head against Bell,
who's just a terrific wide receiver number zero. Seems like
everybody that we play.
Speaker 7 (01:01:30):
Is even on our own team that where's number zero
is a great wide receiver. We saw it last week
with the guy from Florida State, and we're gonna have
to be outstanding this week against Louisville's top receivers. Already
got sixty two catches this year.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
He is Tim Bray on Twitter at Tim Bray, Tim,
have a safe trip and we look forward to talking
to you next week.
Speaker 7 (01:01:50):
Sounds good lawding.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Longtime Clemson sid and officially Clemson Hall of famer Tim
Beray here on the program all eight Thursday afternoon. Great
points there again, stopping the run gonna be key, and
hopefully having Isaac Brown out will help Clemson in that fact,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
Just push them forward a little bit on that front already.
Speaker 5 (01:02:14):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
You know, three four five O zero zero eighty six
texta line, phone line when we come back. The College
Football Playoff Committee chair out will tell you about it
when we return. Lawton Swan, Clemson's Sports Talk on a Thursday,
all right. Not the executive director of the COAG Football Playoff,
Rich Clark, who we interviewed at the acc Kkeoff. Not
(01:02:36):
this guy. Okay, the committee chairman has had to step
down from his position. Here's the latest news on that front.
Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
MATC.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Rhodes, who is the athletic director at Baylor, took a
leave of absence from his job. This is just the
second week of the College Football Playoff rankings for personal
reasons amid a university investigation. Now, Rich Clark, the executive
(01:03:14):
director of the College Football Playoff, put out a statement
saying we are deeply appreciative of Matt Rhodes's leadership and services.
Chair of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee this season.
Mack has informed us that of his decision to step
down for personal reasons, and our thoughts are with him
and his family during this time. We were pleased to
announce the Hunter Urich will assume the role of Selection
(01:03:36):
Committee chairman, affect them immediately. Hunter's experience, integrity, and commitment
to the game make him exceptionally well suited to lead
the committee as it continues its important work throughout the
remainder of the season. Baylor University told ESPN's at Rittenberg
that the school received allegations involving Roads on Monday. The
(01:03:57):
allegations do not involve Title nine student welfare or NCAA
rules and do not involve the football program, indicating it
as a separate incident from Rhodes's alleged altercation with a
football player during a September game. So Jovan Overshown and
(01:04:19):
Cody Hall will also serve as Baylor's co interim athletic directors.
According to the school, Overshown is the school's deputy athletic
director and chief operating officer, and Hall is Baylor's executive
Senior Athletic director for internal Admission and the chief financial officer.
(01:04:42):
So a very strange situation unfolding out in Baylor, as
their athletic director is now taking a leave of absence
for personal reasons and is off of the College Football
Playoff Committee. Rhodes is a two time National Athletics Director
(01:05:04):
of the Year and has overseen one of the most
transformative periods in Baylor athletics history after arriving in July
twenty sixteen. His tenure includes twenty four Big Twelve championships,
eight national titles, and the twenty twenty one NCAA Men's
Basketball Championship, which was the first in Baylor history. He
(01:05:28):
was also a part of Baylor's ambitious facility overhaul, highlighted
by the twelve point two point six twelve hold on
two hundred and twelve point six million dollars Paul and
Alexandra Foster Pavilion in the newly opened Fudge Family Football
(01:05:48):
Development Center. So this comes on the heels of a
report that came out last Friday stating that Roadse was
the subject of a school investigation following alleged verbal and
physical altercation. Would start tight end Michael Trigg on September twentieth,
when the Bears faced Arizona State. However, sources confirmed that
(01:06:10):
rhodes Is leave, as I mentioned earlier, is not directly
related to that other situation.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
So there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
I'll know what the you know what's gonna happen. There
are sister site Sickham three sixty five, as you covered
on that front. If you want to keep up with it,
that's sick Them.
Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Three six'.
Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
Five so we'll see how all of that shakes out
for The Baylor bears and maybe more importantly For Matt
rhodes and the college football playoff at The Collegetball Playoff
committee at this point a zero three four five h
zero zero eighty six text line phone line AGAIN i mentioned.
(01:06:55):
Earlier we will get back To Tristan lee.
Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
Meeting with the.
Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
Media we played a little bit of vout a little
bit of that. Earlier but, finally you, know we've talked
about where These Clemson tiger football players rank in the draft. Projections,
(01:07:22):
okay mel Kiper junior just put out an updated list
before we came on the, air about forty minutes before
we came on the. Air Peter woods all, Right AND i,
LOOK i don't want to Beat Peter woods up too.
MUCH i Think Peter woods of all the issues The
clemson has right, now in terms of the guys that
(01:07:43):
were probably most being talked about, PRESEASON i Mean Peter
woods of those, dudes is probably the least in terms
of just letting you, down even though his impact has
not been. Immense that can be the case when you
(01:08:03):
are an interior defensive. Lineman Peter woods this, season in
nine games, Played okay has played four hundred and thirty
five snaps and has thirty six total. Tackles that's good
for sixth on the. Team he has two, sacks two pass,
(01:08:28):
breakups three quarterback, pressures and two and a half tackles for.
Loss but he has really not dropped that far Down
melchiber's board, Currently Dante moore is number. One Fernando Mendoza Dante,
moore by the, way quarterback At oregon For Nanda, mendoza
quarterback At, indiana is number two on this draft. Board Jeremiah,
(01:08:49):
love running back At Notre, dame is number. Three Rvel
reese Linebacker Ohio, state is. Four Ty simpson quarterback At,
alabama has, five And Peter, woods defensive tackle A clemson
checks in at the number Six overall prospect according to Mel.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
Kiper he, says, Quote woods hadn't.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
Been elite in twenty twenty, five but the skill set
is exactly WHAT nfl teams. Covet he just needs to
finish strong over the second half of the. Season in the,
Pros woods would fit nicely at three, technique though he
has the versatility to move around on the defensive. Front
he plays on the inside the majority of the, time
but he can also be disruptive off the. Edge his
strength will intrigue a lot OF nfl teams no matter
(01:09:36):
where he lines. Up So Peter woods still projected as
one of the top six picks in THE nfl draft
according to Mel. Kuiper and not everybody believes in Mel kuiper, anymore,
right but just putting that out, there all, right quick,
break we'll come, back you know. What i'll update you
a little bit more on this list when we, return
and then we'll hear From Tristan. Lee how about that
(01:09:57):
stay with, Us London Swan Clems short's. Tall back at it.

off of shopping in store At Alumni hall Where tiger fans.
Shop all, right we were taking a look at the
draft AND i or the projected draft. Again Peter woods
checking in at number, six which is stunning to be
Mel kiper's big. Board there is Another Clemson tiger on
the top twenty five for Mel, kiper but it's NOT.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Tj.
Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
Parker It's Avion terrell checking in at number twenty two
with thirty two, tackles four and a half tackles for,
lost nine pass, breakups three forced fulmost three, sacks no
picks though For, terrell but he's got pedigree in THE
nfl with his. Brother here's What kuyper. Says terrell is
a proven cover man much like his brother aj of
(01:11:26):
The Atlanta. Falcons avion is consistent and reliable in man.
Coverage he can flip his, hips turn and run with
the fastest wideouts and still be able to locate the
ball in the air to make the play at the right.
Moment he has twelve pass. Breakups he had twelve pass
breakups last, season and he has limiting opponents to four
point one yards per attempt in his direction this, season
(01:11:49):
top forty in the. Nation So Avion treill coming in
at number.
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
Twenty, two.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
And does that mean or could that mean THE. Tj
parker decides to return To clemson because he's dropped, now
it doesn't mean he's out of the first round. Again
that's just twenty five. Picks Lenor, sellers by the, Way
South carolina quarterback is on the board at number twenty.
One according To Mel, kuiper they Say sellers is still
(01:12:20):
developing as a, prospect but you can't teach a skill.
Set there will be teams that get excited about his.
Potential according To Mel Kuiper Lenor sellers is the fourth
best quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
By.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
Position Kay klubnik not on the top ten and not
behind the guys that just missed it. Either K clubnck
not considered a top fifteen quarterback in the country after
being considered widely as the top quarterback coming into the.
Season let That let that sink in for a minute.
(01:13:03):
Now defensive Ends top Ten.
Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
NO. Tj parker defensive Ends top. Fifteen. NO. Tj.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Parker parker's not on the, list which could be a
could be a blessing in disguise For. Clemson they have him. Listed,
HOWEVER i do see this looking a little. Deeper they
Got parker listed as an outside. Linebacker, huh that's. WEIRD
(01:13:45):
i don't know THAT i agree with. THAT i don't
think he's fast ENOUGH a zero, three four or five
zero zero eighty six text line phone?
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Line all?
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Right Tristan lee up In Tiger. TOWN i mentioned it.
Earlier we listened to a little. Bit Tristan lee was
asked about why he thinks his teammate share his level
of buy in despite the struggles this, season and If
South carolina loses To TEXAS a AND. M we talked
about the issues That carolina might face on the program.
(01:14:15):
Yesterday but Here's Trustan lee On clemson and they're Buying oh.
Speaker 6 (01:14:23):
For you, SAID i would just say it's a testament
to the character in our locker. Room LIKE i, said
we're a very committed. Group we weren't just gonna be
committed if everything went great sixteen to.
Speaker 5 (01:14:36):
Zero we're committed to this team and each.
Speaker 6 (01:14:40):
Other AND i think that that's motivation and its own
to put it on the line for your brothers and
give them everything you can because you know they're gonna
do the same for. You and we have that top
relationship on our, team and you, know if, anything we
get a chance to you, know show some some young
guys like you, know how to hang tough and, finish you,
(01:15:03):
know because, yeah like we talked to, scene, like, yeah
we're not gonna win a national, championship but if we
can be a part of you, know playing a seed
for a, tree we won't have the shade of you
sign me up for that because even Though i'm not
gonna get to win, one nothing will make me happier
than seeing them win. One the guys that will will
(01:15:25):
have the opportunity to do that AND i think that's
important to all the.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Guys That's clemson offensive Lineman Tristan, lee the senior, leader
one of the senior leaders on this. Team he was
also asked about whether or not he's thought About Senior,
day you, know his final time In Death.
Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
Valley, YEAH i, mean AND i.
Speaker 6 (01:15:46):
WAS i was thinking about it on the on the
bus ride when we were coming around going to the
hill For Florida. STATE i was, like, Man i'm never
gonna play a night game In Death valley. Again but
you know that it's a that's a tough. Feeling it's,
like you, know obviously we got the Seior, day we
got another home, game So i'll, say.
Speaker 5 (01:16:07):
I'm, I'm I'm I'm i'm just gonna focus on.
Speaker 6 (01:16:10):
Finishing like, yeah like it sucks that it's my last,
one but you, know how like how CAN i be
be proud of you, know HOW i play and the
EFFORT i put on there and and and lead in
a way WHERE i CAN i can have peace with
that AND i know THAT i gave it EVERYTHING i
had and have no. Regrets so that is tough to.
(01:16:34):
Us that's a crazy. Feeling is when you're a young,
guy you feel like that's so far, Away, like, MAN
i GOTTA i gotta play a million games left in,
here and it's just it's.
Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
Quick, Man it's just like.
Speaker 6 (01:16:44):
That BUT i think it makes us feel better as
seniors if we, can you, know handle our business and
finish the right.
Speaker 5 (01:16:51):
Way SO i, THINK i, MEAN i know we plan
on doing.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
That there you, go Tristan, ly all, right with a quick,
break will come back and we'll put a big old
bow on The thursday edition of the. Show it's A
thursday on the, show but it's A, friday right. Calls
clemson And louisville face off tomorrow night on THE. Espn
some of you won't be able to watch it because
(01:17:16):
it's ON. ESPN i get. That it's the nature of
where we are right now in the world of, television
and hopefully DIRECT tv and YouTube tv will get this.
Thing figure it. Out all, right quick, break we'll come.
Out we'll put a bow on the. Show stay with.
Speaker 9 (01:17:31):
Us what have you done for me?
Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
Lately it's a fair.
Speaker 9 (01:17:39):
Question just don't lose sight of the bigger, picture don't forget.
History lucky for us At, clemson the answer to the
questions what have you done for?
Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
Me lately and what have you?
Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
Done always are the. Same we win.
Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
Final segment on A Thursday Man Clemson, Football tomar And
Night e s p n. Go check out our work
on our, Website clemson sportsaw dot. Com new story just
dropping here in the last thirty minutes or so About
(01:19:12):
clemson defensive Back corey And, gibson you, know finding his
footing in This clemson. Secondary, look there is no mistaking
the fact that there is still a lot of talent
on This clemson. Roster WHAT i think for a lot
of people is so disappointing is that some of the
(01:19:35):
older guys haven't developed and now you're having to count
on these younger guys to step in.
Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
And fill the.
Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
Void and there's nothing wrong with, That, like youth is
fine with me when it comes down to college. Football
we've seen it for years work out For. Clemson But
tyree S ingram slicing it up. Again also an article
up About Gideon davidson Earning clemson's, trust the opportunities that
(01:20:06):
he might have the rest of the, way and it's
kind of. Ironic we're going into this game Where louis
doesn't Have Isaac, brown and maybe the storyline could become. That,
say a guy Like Gideon davidson has a breakout performance
and improves you, know his what's the, Word it kind
(01:20:28):
of improves his status ahead of the final couple of
games of the regular. Season and this is a must
win game in my. Opinion LIKE i, SAID i just
DO i Think clempson can Beat firman In South carolina
most definitely DO i think they can Beat South carolina
if the Game cocks lose To TEXAS a AND m
(01:20:51):
and they have players that choose to sit, out which
is not some far fetched and far fangled. IDEA i,
mean it's out, there especially like you would, say, Well
Leonora sellers is never gonna sit, Out LIKE i get
the thought That Leonora sellers is never gonna sit, Out
But Leonora sellers would not be the first player to
(01:21:16):
not want to play in a meaningless. Game and you
would say to, Me, Swanne Clemson South carolina is not,
meaningless and you better be thankful That Leonora sellers is
a kid from the state Of South carolina and might
see it that, way and not a kid that's From
michigan that just happens to be playing, here because that
(01:21:37):
would be the only reason to play in the game
because you, like If carolina will lose. Again this is
all Assuming carolina loses To TEXAS a AND. M you're
not going to a bowl, game just. Not and if
you don't have a bowl, game then all all of a,
(01:22:00):
sudden these last games become games are the only thing
that can happen is you can get. Injured and For
sellers's draft stock has already, slipped as we heard, earlier
not nearly as much As kate Club. Nicks but if
you get hurt Against clemson and you know you have
(01:22:21):
a knee injury or shoulder injury or, whatever then you
fall even. Further if you get through This TEXAS a
AND m game healthy and you, lose maybe you don't
have the desire to go out there and really play.
Anymore you might turn your attention and it might not
be just your. Decision the people in your ear might be, saying,
(01:22:44):
Hey leonor's it's not worth it and you're, like And
sellers is, like but, guys, look It's Clemson, carolina. Dude
can we talk about millions of dollars? Here AND i
know you're making four million or whatever you're, making but
can we talk about what money is potentially on the
table for you in THE, nfl or DARE i say
(01:23:06):
another program that decides.
Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
They want you.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
INSTEAD i, mean it's one of those situations WHERE i
don't think anybody wants to believe that your starting quarterback
would sit out a rivalry. Game AND i know he
wouldn't if you had a bowl game at the end
(01:23:29):
of the season or college football playoff. Game but if
you don't have anything to play for other than, pride
and that might not carry all that far in this
day and, age maybe he does sit it out. Again
(01:23:49):
South carolina nearly twenty point underdogs this weekend on the
road At TEXAS a and M.
Speaker 5 (01:23:59):
C.
Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
Now a two and a half point, underdog as the
spread has slipped over the past twenty four hours with
the news That Isaac brown LSU i.
Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
Did, it don't gone? It what was that thing?
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
Called we looked that up the other, week That louisville
running Back Isaac brown's out of the. Game all, Right
we will be back tomorrow college football For clemson tomorrow
on A, friday just, weird just flat out, weird and
we'll have our regular, Guest Tommy. Bowden we'll talk with
(01:24:38):
Will Van, dervoort so it'll be a lot of fun.
Again we'll talk to y'all at four o'clock a till.
Then it is always. Y'all take care now and Go.
Speaker 3 (01:24:46):
Tigers
