Канцлер Германии Фридрих Мерц в инаугурационной речи 14 мая в бундестаге назвал приоритетом своего правительства преобразование вооруженных сил страны в самую сильную армию Европы.
Как пояснил канцлер, для увеличения численности войск в Германии, в частности, будет введена «новая, привлекательная добровольная военная служба».
Мерц также пообещал, что Берлин возьмет на себя больше ответственности в рамках НАТО и ЕС за защиту Европы и будет безоговорочно поддерживать Украину.
