21 июня в Беларуси из тюрьмы освободили 14 политических заключенных, в том числе — Сергея Тихановского, блогера и мужа бывшего кандидата в президенты страны Светланы Тихановской.
Позднее стало известно, что пятеро из освобожденных — граждане Беларуси, еще один человек с двойным гражданством, а остальные — граждане других стран.
Освобождение политзаключенных произошло в день визита в Минск Кита Келлога, спецпредставителя президента США Дональда Трампа. Позднее пресс-секретарь Александра Лукашенко Наталья Эйсмонт заявила, что Лукашенко принял решение об освобождении политзаключенных по просьбе Дональда Трампа.
Это не первое освобождение политзаключенных в качестве уступки Западу за время правления Лукашенко. Даже в последнее время — с июля 2024 по январь 2025 года — прошло уже десять «волн» освобождений политзаключенных.
