9 декабря в интервью изданию Politico президент США Дональд Трамп заявил, что «пришло время» организовать выборы президента Украины.
В тот же день Владимир Зеленский сообщил, что готов провести выборы в течение 60-90 дней, если США и Европа обеспечат безопасность. Позже Зеленский предложил установить режим прекращения огня на время выборов, добавив, что «Америка должна поговорить об этом с Россией».
Законодательство Украины запрещает проводить выборы во время военного положения. В стране не проводили выборы в Верховную раду в 2023-м и президентские в 2024-м.
