13 декабря Александр Лукашенко помиловал 123 политических заключенных. В их числе — одна из лидеров белорусских протестов 2020 года Мария Колесникова и экс-глава Белгазпромбанка, соперник Лукашенко на президентских выборах 2020 года Виктор Бабарико. При этом в Беларуси все еще остается больше 1200 политических заключенных.
Лукашенко пошел на помилование в рамках переговоров с представителями президента США Дональда Трампа. Американцы со своей стороны сняли санкции с «Беларуськалия», одного из крупнейших в мире производителей калийных удобрений.
