В начале 2026 года президент США Дональд Трамп снова заговорил о том, что Гренландия «совершенно точно» нужна Соединенным Штатам. С таким заявлением он выступил после военной операции американских сил в Венесуэле, в результате которой был похищен лидер страны Николас Мадуро.
В Белом доме говорили, что Трамп рассматривает несколько способов получить контроль над Гренландией, включая применение вооруженных сил. По данным журналистов The Times, США думают над тем, чтобы захватить Гренландию силой, выкупить остров или предложить договор о свободной ассоциации.
Аргументируя необходимость завладеть Гренландией, Трамп уже неоднократно упоминал угрозу острову со стороны России и Китая.
