Mutta ahnt nichts. Sie glaubt es einfach nicht. Dass „der Sozialismus zu Ende geht“. Auch nicht, als der Pfarrer ihr das prophezeit – genau ein halbes Jahr vor dem Mauerfall.
Mutta verfolgt gespannt die Nachrichten im Sommer 1989 in der DDR. Selbstverständlich guckt sie Tagesschau. Denn da erfährt sie eben am meisten. Was in Leipzig passiert, was um die Ecke in Berlin p...
Mutta ist als Omi genauso kinderverliebt wie als junge Frau.
Auch früher ist ihr immer schon klar: Kinder, also eigene Kinder: Die gehören zu ihrem Leben dazu. Auf jeden Fall will sie mehr als eins haben. Das Leben als Alleinerziehende in der DDR schreckt sie nicht ab.
Auch nicht, nachdem „dit mit dem ersten Kerl“ gar nicht geklappt hat....
Muttas alte Schulzeugnisse bescheinigen ihr „ein gutes Verhalten in der sozialistischen Produktion“. Aber sie ordnet sich nicht immer „dem Klassenkollektiv unter“. Mutta ist auch öfter „inaktiv“ was die gesellschaftliche Arbeit angeht.
Das hat die Lehrerin ganz gut getroffen. Bis heute ist Mutta gern für sich und lässt die Gesellschaft gern Gesellschaft sein. Und zwar a...
Jetzt ist sie also wirklich weg! Weg aus dem Heimatdorf und rauf zur Ostsee. Mutta arbeitet jetzt in einem Ferienheim für Kinder. Die katholische Kirche macht’s möglich: Das Heim wird nämlich von Nonnen geleitet. Mutta ist 16 und erstmal glücklich: Jetzt darf sie also doch noch mit Kindern arbeiten.

Mit einem Bein ist Mutta noch im katholischen Heim. Mit dem anderen schon im Leben draußen. Mit Schwester und Freundinnen macht sie zum ersten Mal richtig Urlaub: Es wird DER Urlaub! Budapest und Balaton. DDR-Traumurlaub. Auch wenn die Frauen keen Jeld haben – das wird super!
Danach beginnt das „normale Leben“: Mann, Hochzeit, Kind. Liebe? Das weiß Mutta heute nich mehr...
Mutta kommt vom Land. Und zwar so richtig: Ein Dorf mit ein paar hundert EinwohnerInnen in der Uckermark. Sieht schön idyllisch aus. War aber alles andere als Idylle. Sondern eine Kindheit in der DDR mit harter Arbeit – in den fünfziger und sechziger Jahren. Für Mutta und ihre Schwester ist deshalb klar: So schnell wie möglich weg da!

Meine Mutta hatte sich eingerichtet in der DDR. Was blieb ihr übrig? Aber dann plötzlich Ausnahmesituation: Mutta darf nach „drüben“ fahren – 1988. „Ein Geschenk des Himmels.“ Was sie mit dem Geschenk gemacht hat, find‘ ich heute nicht selbstverständlich.
