Jetzt ist sie also wirklich weg! Weg aus dem Heimatdorf und rauf zur Ostsee. Mutta arbeitet jetzt in einem Ferienheim für Kinder. Die katholische Kirche macht’s möglich: Das Heim wird nämlich von Nonnen geleitet. Mutta ist 16 und erstmal glücklich: Jetzt darf sie also doch noch mit Kindern arbeiten.
Und die Kirche in der DDR bietet ihr noch mehr Möglichkeiten: Neben Ferienheimen arbeitet und lernt sie auch in Behinderteneinrichtungen, Krankenhäusern. Mutta nimmt alles mal mit. Sie lebt ein paar Jahre ein bisschen wie in einer Parallelwelt in dieser Kirchen-DDR. Unterm Radar des Arbeiter- und Bauernstaats.
Da ist die Kirche zwar offiziell nicht wohl gelitten. Aber sie hat so manchen Versorgungsengpass aufgefangen.
Aber warum ist unsere Familie in so einem Land überhaupt katholisch? Und dazu noch im protestantischen Norden? Das liegt an meiner Oma. Und daran, wo sie herkam.
Aber geerbter Katholizismus hin oder her: Für Mutta ist dann nach ein paar Jahren trotzdem Schluss mit den Jobs in der Kirche. Mit Anfang 20 dann: Raus aus der Parallelwelt. Rein ins „echte Leben“.
