يستطيع المقيم والمسافر أن يلاحظ تشابه مدننا في تصاميمها وعمرانها؛ فما تراه في الرياض ترى مثله في جدة والشرقية وغيرها من المدن: مبانٍ متراصّة ومتشابهة بلا هوية واضحة ومميزة. لكن قبل فترة أُطلق مشروع العمارة السعودية لحل هذه الأزمة.

ترى نوف أن عمارة السعودية قديمًا كانت واضحة ومختلفة بين مناطقها، وكان هناك ارتباط بين الإنسان والمكان؛ فالعمارة كانت تُلائم البيئة المحيطة بها، ومناسبة لاحتياجات الإنسان، سواءً أكان في الساحل أو على الجبال أو بين الصحراء.
هذا التنوّع الغني هو ما جعل المشروع يعتمد على تسعة عشر نمطًا بين المناطق. فكيف سيعيد المشروع هوية مدننا؟ ومتى بدأ الابتعاد عن أنماط عمارتنا المحلية؟ والأهم، كيف ستلتزم المكاتب الهندسية بتنفيذ العمارة السعودية؟
