Speaker 1 (00:04):
Was your Facebook information shared with Cambridge Analytica? A new
website tells you instantly, am Rich damiro this is Rich
on Tech Daily. Okay, so by now you've heard all
about Cambridge Analytica. This is the British political consulting firm
that's at the center of a major Facebook controversy. Some
estimates say they accessed data on more than eighty million

(00:25):
Facebook users. So you're probably wondering is your profile data
in there? Well, now there's an easy way to find out.
Facebook has set up a super simple page. All you
have to do is log into your Facebook account, click
a link, and it brings you to a special help
page titled how can I Tell if my info was
shared with Cambridge Analytica. All the page does is checks

(00:47):
to see if you or your friends access the quiz
app from Cambridge Analytica, which was called this is Your
Digital Life. Then you get your results right in a
big box in the center of your screen, and it
says was my information shared? Now? I clicked on the
link and for me, my information was not shared. Now.
I'm not a big fan of taking all these quizzes online,

(01:08):
and this is why the quizzes are just upfront for
capturing as much personal information as they can. But if
you did take a quiz or one of your friends
take this quiz, it will tell you. And the box
even goes a step further. It will give you an
idea of exactly what was shared with Cambridge Analytica, including
your profile information, your page likes, your birthday, your current city,

(01:31):
and more. The information that they had access to depends
on whether you took the quiz or one of your
friends took the quiz. One thing that's interesting about this
support page, which is by the way, official from Facebook.
They kind of don't use absolutes, so when they give
you your information, it says based on our available records,
and then finally it says as a result, it doesn't

(01:52):
appear your Facebook information was shared, so they're not saying
on either side with a firm yes or no. Now
I can tell you how to get to this page.
Go to Facebook dot com, slash help slash one eight
seven three six six five three one two nine two
three four seven six, which is the website url for
the page, or you can just find a link on

(02:12):
my website. Just go to rich on tech dot tv
and again you want to log into Facebook. Then you
can click the link and then it will tell you
if your information was shared. So what's Facebook doing in
the future. Four things. They're going to notify you if
an app misuse your data. They're gonna make it easier
to manage the apps that you use. They're going to
turn off access for unused apps, and they're going to

(02:35):
restrict Facebook login data basically the amount of information that
they pass along to third party companies when you use
Facebook to log into their websites. And a lot of
this is already happening. So there's another link on this
Cambridge Analytica page that actually lets you look into your
apps and websites to see the information that you shared
with them. So you can click that link as well.

(02:56):
And Facebook has made that section of their settings just
a little bit clearer again, you can find the link
to see if your data was shared with Cambridge Analytica.
Just go to my website. Richon tech dot tv and
if you find this podcast helpful, please leave me a
review in the Apple Podcasts app. I do appreciate it.
Thanks so much for listening. I'm rich damiro rich on

(03:16):
tech dot tv. I'll talk to you real soon.
