Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Kentucky Anda. It's eight oh six here at
News Radio eight forty. Whas coffee and company with you,
and we are fueled by Thornton's and we're going to
be We're gonna be okay. As far as snowfall today,
it sounds like the snow that's on his way is
not going to arrive until later on today and end
of the evening, and that's whenever we will be in
a winter weather advisory. So starting at seven o'clock tonight
(00:22):
until ten am tomorrow morning, that's when the winter weather
advisory will be in effect. So again, ten point eight
inches of snow per season in Louisville has been the average,
but we've already received about half of that, and that's
not considering that's not including the potential two to four
inches that could be here by tomorrow at this time.
So the winner has arrived in a big way. So again,
(00:45):
today gonna be cold in the thirties. But seven o'clock
tonight is when it sounds like the snow could be
coming to the region. Really, the Kentucky Anda region as
a whole is expected to get some type of accumulation,
but those that are going to get the most four
inches is what it is, what it looks like, so
be prepared. Tomorrow could be a rough morning for a
lot of folks. Could be a morning where's kids find
(01:08):
that they don't have to go to school, maybe they
have to do ntia, maybe they get a traditional snow day.
But of what they're projecting is correct. I think even
with good treatment of the roads, it would be enough.
It would make it tough, I think, to get school
up and running. All right, So we've been busy this morning,
as you could expect. We've got three hours in the books.
We've been at it since five am. So if you
(01:29):
are just now joining us, thank you. If you've been
with us throughout, thank you as well. So we got
some good numbers yesterday that I think are certainly worth
sharing with you. It doesn't mean that you know everything's
a okay, but when it comes to violent crime in Louisville,
we're making progress, especially homicides. So with just a couple
(01:52):
of weeks, a few weeks left here in the calendar
year of twenty twenty five, there's been a big time
drop in homicides. So the new LMPD data shows that
twenty one percent is where they're down. So if you
look at certain areas of Louisville like Russell and park Hill,
those are the two areas that I guess have seen
(02:13):
the biggest decline in years when it comes to homicides.
So Louisville recorded one hundred and thirty seven homicides twenty
four and this year, with about three weeks left, that
number sits at one oh eight, so twenty one percent decrease,
And that's worth acknowledging. Doesn't mean that everything's okay and
we don't even need to worry about it anymore, because,
as Chief Humphrey has said, there's really no finish line,
(02:36):
like there's never going to be a scenario where it's
not an emphasis as far as keeping people safe. But
I do think that is legitimate progress that is worthy of.
If you don't want to give anybody any praise, that's fine,
but it is worth acknowledging. And for me, someone who
cares about Louisville being safe, I think it does deserve
some praise. And Chief Humphrey, he's acknowledged that traffic stops
(03:00):
business checks and just more community contact with folks that
has been a real factor in the good results that
they're seeing all right. So also a big story nationally
that there's not really any big update on, and we
did just discuss it into sports there in the seven
o'clock hour. But Searan Moore, the Michigan coach, who I
(03:22):
guess is now not the Michigan coach, went from waking
up yesterday as a football coach with one of the
best jobs in college football to now sitting in a
jail cell because of an investigation that determined that he well,
I guess he's not in a jail cell because of that.
The investigation that Michigan did determine that he he did
something that you can't do. They have fired him with cause.
And then as this news got to him and things
(03:47):
progressed after the fact, somewhere along the line, somewhere along
the way, he found himself being apprehended by police because
of an alleged assault. And they have not mentioned and
the name of the stafford that he had an inappropriate
relationship with. But you can use the internet, you can
use social media. It's pretty easy to figure out. But
(04:10):
the timeline here does show that when he was detained
it was in Saline, Michigan, which is right outside of
ann arbor. But police responded to the residence of this
stafford that he had inappropriate relationship with and also his residence.
So but I can't quite determine it. Surely they don't
share a residence that would that may be how they
got caught, if that's the case. But some of the
(04:32):
rumors out there as far as the relationship that these
two had, the extent of it, maybe what came with
the relationship, if, of course you are not being careful
with intimate relationships, if you know what I mean, no
clue if that's just internet nonsense or if there's any
truth to it, But that would at least explain the swift,
very direct way in which Michigan handled this, because it
(04:55):
is not in any way common to release information that
you fired somebody with cause and then include the cause.
I mean, I'm sure people would love the information right,
more drama, more details, people eat that stuff up. But
although it is a pretty obvious thing that hey, if
you had an inappropriate relationship with the staff er, like
(05:17):
that'll get you fired, but schools don't typically put that
out there. Now, maybe they just want to get out
in front of it because they know more is coming
and it's going to be an even worse look, and
they just want to know. They want to just get
get out of the way. Hey, we're firing this guy
with cause, and we're not going to leave you to
speculate why.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
We're going to let you know.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
It's because he had inappropriate relationship with somebody that he employed.
So what a mess? What a mess? All right? Quick
time out? What I want to get to on the
other side, something that I find interesting, and that is
the drivers that do the grub Hub, the door dash
and all that. They've participated in a survey and they
(05:58):
will tell you what a Americans were ordering in twenty
twenty five, so we can get into that. Also. Rody
O'Neil set to join us coming up at eight thirty five.
We'll talk about the US seizing that Venezuelan tanker. And
we didn't get to it much yesterday, but Australia's decision
to ban social media for children under a certain age.
(06:19):
I don't think we're going to see that elsewhere, but man,
I don't know if i'd be against it. We'll talk
about that in a lot more right here in news
Radio eight forty whas it is eight eighteen here News
Radio eight forty whas Happy Thursday to you, December the eleventh.
Once we get out of the single digits of December,
that's when it really hits me. The Christmas is getting close,
(06:40):
and I start to panic a little bit that maybe
I should get to it. I've always been a Christmas
procrastinator and I probably always will be to an extent,
maybe not though maybe not so. Last year, my wife
and I we decided just because of money and just
because of just you know, we didn't really feel the need.
(07:02):
We're hard to get gifts for each other because typically,
and I think most adults are like this, that you
kind of get whatever you feel like, you get what
you want, Like you buy things for yourself if you
feel like you really need it and want it and
you can afford it. And when somebody asks you for
a for a gift, like you're not going to ask
for something super expensive. I mean you probably shouldn't and
(07:24):
wouldn't anyway, but like you wouldn't ask for something that
your wife to get you if you know, like your
family can't afford it. So we decided to just not
do Christmas gifts at all and just focus on getting
gifts for others and of course just get gifts for
the kids and make it all about that. And I
will say, I'm sure that works for a lot of people.
We hated it when we woke up on Christmas morning
and we were going through it. It was just different
(07:46):
and it you know, we could have we could have
had a ten dollars max as far as what we
spend on each other and it would have been more fun.
So it wasn't about like we felt, oh I didn't
get any gifts, but like it just it kind of
you know, it kind of dampened the overall Christmas feels,
if you will. So we're gonna get some gifts this
year for each other and it probably won't be anything
expensive and looking forward to it. Yeah, I gotta get
(08:08):
to it because in recent years, as most have turned
to online shopping, it's a mad dash to just look
for things that I can find online. But instead of
looking at price first, or you know, things like that,
I'm looking at when's the quickest it can arrive at
my door so I can get it wrapped in under
the tree before we get to Christmas. That's really been
(08:31):
my procrastination in recent years. But hey, if I start now,
then I don't have to worry about it. We'll see
all right. If you want to get yourself a Christmas gift,
I can tell you, or you may be able to
pick one up. It's a Track County Ford Exit eighteen
or five seventy one in Oldham County, just outside of Louisville,
and they've got a lot of gifts that again, you
can get your gift for yourself or maybe you want
to get it for somebody else. I mean, that'd be
(08:53):
a big gift to get somebody a new car, but hey,
people do it. And at Track hownty Ford, they've got
all the latest forwards Onco Sport Bend all wheel Drive,
the Mustang Mocke, the Premium all wheel Drive, the Ford
F one to fifty Super Cruel, Aariat four by four,
Explore Active Real wheel Drive. They've got all the new
Ford line, all the new Ford models, the Escape as well,
(09:15):
so go check them out. They've got some great deals
going on with the holidays to celebrate Christmas, including on
the Mustang mock E Premium all wheel drive, you get
zero present financing for seventy two months. How about that
you can get the Explorer Active Real wil Drive for
just forty nine hundred dollars right now. So again it's
Track County four. Check them on online at trackcunny Ford
dot com or go see them again. They've got a
(09:37):
beautiful showroom, a beautiful dealership there in beautiful Oldham County. Again.
Trackhneyfour dot com is the website. Go out there and
see them. Tell them I sent you all right, So
sports updates on the other side, and then we've got
Rory O'Neil set to join us around eight thirty five,
looking forward to chatting with him. He'll tell us about
what took place on the coast of Venezuela as the
tanker was hiding its location until it wasn't. So we'll
(10:00):
get to that and we'll finish strong. We won't have
a whole lot of time left, but I do want
to get into some of the things we've been discussing
this morning that I've at least been teeing up. So
stick around. It is eight twenty two here at News
Radio eight forty. Whas as of right now, it doesn't
look as if there's been any kind of update on
the Charon Moore situation as far as him getting out
of jail. He might be out of jail. I just
(10:20):
feel like with the way this story is being covered,
we would know that by now. But a lot of
attention this morning has shifted to athletic director Ward Manuel,
who was the one who conducted an investigation and announced
yesterday that they're firing Charon Moore with cause for an
inappropriate relationship with a staff member. But this two things
to think about here, because the accusation against him now
(10:43):
is that he knew about this, did nothing until it
got a little too loud, which that wouldn't surprise me
if that's the case. But also, as much as we
want drama and heads to roll, you can hear a
rumor and it will still take you an extensive amount
of time to a thorough investigation to see if there's
any truth to it. Now, am I naive to think
(11:05):
that like maybe he was stunned to see this. I
don't know the situation, But yeah, I'm not naive enough
to think that like he had no clue, But having
a suspicion and being able to prove it totally different
and also getting to the point where you can make
this move swiftly and you know you've got what's needed
to say this is with cause there's no conversation about negotiations, buyout.
(11:28):
We've got you. So I'll give him the benefit of
the doubt there because with what we now know an
investigation with a i'm sorry, an inappropriate relationship with someone
who was a special assistant to the head coach. I
just I feel like the scenario where nobody of higher
power knew this was going on, I find that a
little hard.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
I do too, especially in this day and age of
social media and everybody knowing everything about everybody. My question
is how long was she a side piece before she
became the assistant? That's one question? And two would this
have stayed under the radar? And would he still have
a job if he hadn't quadrupled her salary?
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Yeah? I mean I feel like if what's out there,
and again, the rumor, and it is just a rumor,
is that that these two were not just having an affair,
that she may be pregnant, I mean, and that and
that of course that adds a new layer to it.
So it sounds like and again, John, you can help
(12:25):
me out here, because you're a big ten fan, and
big ten fans have been discussing this potential bombshell for
over a month now, right.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Yeah, And one thing that I was just thinking about
as John Shannon was kind of speculating on what could
have been. Imagine if Michigan had maybe beaten Ohio State
once again and found themselves in the college football playoff,
you think they would have made this move? Nope, right now,
or that would they would they have kept under wraps
for the rest of that post. Again, this is all
just a theory, but it wouldn't surprise me based on
(12:55):
previous things that Michigan's been involved in the last several years,
if they would have kept it under the table and
the season officially ended for him.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Yeah, I don't think there's a scenario that this would
have come out, but you know, we'll never know. I
will say to answer your question as far as what
do you, I think this sounds to be a very
poorly kept secret that really was no longer a secret,
so of the because that's what that is. That's one
of the public record. By the way, she's an employee
for the schools, so you can look up her salary.
(13:22):
She jumped up a substantial amount in the last year,
and of course it's obvious for folks to connect dots
and say, well, she is getting more money because she's
now of more value to the coach because of their
relationship outside of you know, work.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
I didn't see is she out of a job now too,
or is she still holding out position because all we're
hearing about is the coach getting fired.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
That's tough, right because she can be viewed as a
victim by a lot of people, right right. I mean,
I mean, so, I'm not sure if she is, but
you know her situation. I mean, I would imagine she
will no longer be working there, but I would imagine
that's just her running and trying to start a new life.
Or I don't know, you never know, maybe she uses
this is a chance to launch a you know, social
(14:02):
media career or you know, celebrity gossip stuff. I have
no clue, but it is. It is a mess. There's
no doubt about that, all right, real quick, Some breaking
news on the Kentucky side of things. They have hired
reportedly a defensive coordinator, so will Stein has found his
d C as Texas A and m d C. Jay
Bateman is going to be the next Kentucky d C.
(14:24):
So not super familiar with his background, but he's been
at Texas A and M for just two seasons. He's
the defensive coordinator and the linebackers coach, and prior to that,
spent two seasons at Florida as the linebackers coach, and
then prior to that was at North Carolina as a
co DC for a few years. So don't know of
(14:44):
the connection there with will Stein, but you'll start to
see him filling out his staff as he's doing a
lot of things right now, a lot on his plate
as he's helping Oregon get set for a college football
playoff run, but he's also assembling a staff, trying to
figure out which guy's on this Kentucky roster he wants
to bring back, and of course go out and hit
the portal like everybody else and recruit freshman too. So
(15:06):
a lot on his plate, no doubt, as he's juggling
two jobs at the same time for the time being,
and also doing it where Let's keep in mind Kentucky
and Oregon not exactly close in location right when you're
balancing two things. So yeah, anyways, we're out of time,
and that means you've got Dwight Whitten coming your way here. Next,
Tony's out, so it's Dwight. He returns from his Mexico trip,
(15:27):
and we're all looking forward to that. So stick around
right here. Here's ready to eight forty whas
