Speaker 1 (00:00):
I feel confident in saying, and what I'm about to
say is true. I don't think I've ever had anything
pumpkin spice. I know I don't like pumpkin flavored anything. Therefore,
I've I've always just stayed away from anything pumpkin spice,
pumpkin spice latte. I may be one of a few
individuals on the planet that hasn't had one of those.
Those seem to be really popular. John, have you had
a Are you pumpkin spice guy?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I'MNNA guess no, no, but I do like all the
pumpkin scents and stuff that come with this time of year.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Well, the scent is different than the yase, it's a
whole lot different. The scent is it's it's fall to me,
that's what it smells like. But yeah, like anything anything
pumpkin flavor, pumpkin pie, which I guess that's really all
that's coming to mind for me. But yes, pumpkin spice. Uh,
it's it's been popular for quite some time, so much
so that I guess it gets its own day. So
congratulations to those who enjoy it and celebrate. And I

(00:49):
don't know what that celebration calls for. But enjoy yourselves.
It's pumpkin spice latte. Is that a drink that is
made by a lot of the Fu Foo coffee makers?
Or is that liked?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I think it's got a lot of whipped cream on top.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I think Starbucks, but like you can get a can
you get a pumpkin spice latte? Other than that? Other
than that place? I think assume we're out of our element.
And I'm sure there's many people just thinking this. These
guys a bunch of bunch of clowns. You probably you
probably think that every day, but I will admit, hand
up not my lane when it comes to pumpkin spice

(01:22):
and any anything about it. But again, enjoy it if
you are somebody who who is is a big fan
of it. All right, So the government is shut down
and that is you just throw that out there. I mean,
I feel like it's one of those things that for
someone that doesn't really keep up with anything going on
that does not impact them directly. And I'll tell you

(01:44):
there's a lot of people that do that, I think
more so than most realize. But if you just blamed anything,
oh sorry, government shut down, like they probably believe you
because it just sounds like such a gosh, this is crazy.
And again, it's not a rare thing, and it's it's
certainly a substantial thing. It's not like it's no big
But there are many that at least initially won't notice
much of a change at all. But if you are

(02:05):
somebody that of course does work for the government, then
you will notice it and it can be a nerve
wracking thing. Yes, it hopefully won't last a long time,
breaking the record of what a thirty something days I
believe it was from twenty nineteen eighteen nineteen. But to
not have a paycheck, I mean, that's a scary thing

(02:26):
for a lot of people. And right now, as long
as this is the thing, meaning the government is shut down,
you'll have a lot of folks working without getting that paycheck. Again,
they'll get retroactive pay, and that of course is better
than not getting any pay at all. But working while
not getting paid and knowing you're not getting paid, that's

(02:47):
got it. I mean again, when it comes to the
arrangement of having a job working, it's pretty cut and dry.
I work, you pay me. That's you know. Everybody makes
different salaries and everybody's jobs are different. But to know
that you still have to go to work but you're
not getting paid is just it's unbelievable, I'm sure to

(03:08):
a lot of people. But also then you have furloughed
employees that do not work during this shutdown. So it
all comes down to what is essential and what is
not essential. And when it comes to that, there are
certain things that are deemed to be you know, for example,
some of the I think it's some of the state
parks and whatnot, But I would imagine those of you

(03:30):
that work for the federal government and are impacted by
this in whatever way, it's probably something that as these
kind of things loom and you can see that this
was about to happen, because that was certainly the expectation
in recent days, is that the deadline was coming, and
it did not look as if anybody was on the
same page, or clearly nobody's on the same page right
now when it comes to the two sides. But there

(03:51):
wasn't any movement anybody budgeting to concede. And that's of
course while we're in this exact situation. So yeah, not
ideal now when it comes to you know, how it
impacts Louisville specifically, I mean, you've got programs that are
going to be at risk. Wick funding could dry up,

(04:13):
leaving families without food assistance. Snap benefits may see disruptions
depending upon just how long this is shut down, and
those are things that, of course a lot of people
depend upon. Also, federal housing aid could be delayed for
those that receive it. And again it's it's TSA agents
and air traffic controllers that are viewed as essential. So
these are the people that that must work but without pay.

(04:35):
And I'm curious if you are somebody that works in this,
in that, in that industry, I mean, will you get
called out if you just decide, oh, got a lot
of sick time not feeling well? Because just I mean,
it's do we really believe that people are going to
be doing the same level of performance? And I'm sure

(04:58):
some will, but I'm sure many will not really be
bothered about cutting a corner or maybe mailing it in
a little early on a work day because you know,
I'm not getting paid now. They'll get paid retroactively. But
I just I can imagine being a fly on the
wall and some of these, some of these, some of
these workplaces, because I just imagine morale not gonna be great.

(05:21):
And again you'll be made whole eventually, at least we hope.
So that's that's that's that's what should happen. But people
want to get paid. And again, I think timing is
not on our side either. When it comes to just
those that do live check to check. I'm sure there's
many more doing it now than there were the last
time the government shut down because clearly the financial the economy,
the cost of living much different than it was at

(05:42):
that time. All right, let's get to a quick traffic
and weather update. We'll see how the roadways are looking.
As we get this Wednesday started. Matt Melosovitch will probably
tell me that I'm I'm gonna have to deal with
this hot and dry weather longer than I want to.
But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he'll surprise me. We'll find
out here just to view, it is coffee and Company
and we are fueled by Thornton's right here on news
Radio eight forty whas. Happy hump Days to you, Thanks

(06:04):
for hanging out with us here on news Radio eight
forty whas. It's coffee and Company with you fuel but
Thornton's take us with you wherever you go, you can
listen live on the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live at
whas dot com. And if you are somebody that listens
live on the iHeartRadio app, which I know many of
you do, keep in mind, you can interact with us
by using the talkback features. So there's a microphone button

(06:25):
that you'll see when you are in the iHeartRadio app
listening to us, and all you do is click that
and then boom, you'll be prompted to allow the app
to use your microphone on your phone, and then you
can share whatever you want, questions, complaints, compliments, insults, whatever
you got, feel free to send it in. And I'm
also really happy to now tell you that the talkback

(06:46):
line is featured by Alex R. White Lawyers Soudistracted driver
dot com. When you have an injury in an accident
that is caused by a distracted driver, which it happens.
Nobody plans for it, but it happens. A distract the
driver every day is going to turn somebody else's day
upside down, sometimes in a tragic way. Sometime maybe not

(07:08):
to that extent, but still happens all the time. I'm
sure you right now on your way to work, might
have seen somebody driving on the roadway next to you
that that was distracted, and that's an issue. It's really
really dangerous. And when that happens to you and you're impacted,
you want somebody you can trust that's going to fight
for you. And I can tell you Alex are White
and his team they do exactly that. They're local, they're here,

(07:30):
they're impact, and their commitment to this community is very evident.
I don't even think you have to be looking for it.
It's very obvious. They're here, they're local, they care. They're
not somebody that wants you to think they're local but
is not local. They're Louisvell. They're local. You can trust them.
And there's a lot of scary questions I'm sure that
you go through during that process of realizing you've been

(07:51):
impacted by a distracted driver. One of those is who
am I going to get to fight for me? I
can tell you Alex R. White and his team will
do that. So again, our talk back line is is
is powered by Alex R. Wright Lawyers to Distracted driver
dot Com. And again, I h I utilize this feature
here and there, but I don't as much as I should. Well,
now I'm going to because we've got a great partner

(08:12):
for it and we look forward to having more interactions
from you guys listening, and again doesn't have to be
anything specific. You can really send in whatever you'd like.
Now doesn't always mean it's going to get played on
the show, but certainly that's the that's the hope, is
that whatever interaction we get, there's enough of it to
where we can we can share it over the airwaves
here and give us more more interaction with you that
listen and make this a part of your day each

(08:33):
and every morning. I'll admit, John, I was a little
late to the segment yesterday with Tony and Dwight what
led to them taking calls that ended up being a
really really funny segment about who should who should be
the first was the first person that should interact with
alien life.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Or something like who do we as a human race
send to be kind of the representatives for you know,
you know, the not after life, those who the UFOs
if people were to be coming down, if aliens were
coming down to Earth, who do we send as a representative?
And we all kind of agreed, at least as me,
Tony and Dwight. We agreed that Tom Cruise he's kind
of a guy that he'll do anything, and he's also

(09:08):
kind of he's a very charming dude. If anybody's going
to woo the Aliens into maybe not being so hostile
toward us, I feel like Tom Cruise is a good
candidate for that.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna argue against that because
I feel like if you told me, well, we found
the Aliens, and the aliens found us, and thankfully Tom
Cruise was able to make peace with them, wouldn't shock me,
because rubbish is not the whole They're not a whole lot.
You could tell me when it comes to that kind
of stuff. That would shock me when it comes to
Tom Cruise. But I did think that was that was funny.
Some of the ones. Somebody mentioned Kenny Payne as being

(09:39):
somebody that.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Was a good one.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
It might have been my favorite one. Somebody who could
who's so good at changing culture and we should have
him do it. But some of some I thought that
Shaquille O'Neil one was actually pretty good as well. So, yeah,
that was that was a lot of fun, and it
reminded me that despite this being a little bit of
a different format than what you get with Tony and Dwight,
certainly not as much nonsense here as is there. And
I say that as someone that's jealous of the nonsense

(10:01):
they get to participate in at times. But we can
certainly have more interaction here and that starts with me,
and there's now never been a better time to do it,
because again, we've got a proud partner of the talkback
line talkback feature on our iHeart radio app. It is
Alex R. White Lawyers, so Distracted Driver dot Com. So again,
feel free to interact with us. We've got traffic and
weather updates on the way. Looks like we've got some

(10:23):
issues so far. We'll get the latest on that from
from We'll get the latest of that, and we'll get
an update on weather. Sorry, I'm trying to look at
the traffic updates on my end and I need to
just stay in my lane and let Bobby Ellis handle that.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
For you guys, No pun intended.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, that's right, that's all right, thank you. John. It
is Coffee and Company. We're fuel about Thorton's right here
on News Radio eight forty whas Wednesday morning, rolling along
here at news Radio eight forty whas. It's coffee and
company with you field to Thornton's on news Radio eight
forty whas, Take us with you wherever you go. You
can listen live on the Aheart Radio app. Also, you
can interact with us via the Aheart Radio app. Just

(11:00):
hit that talkback button. Well, in fact it's a microphone button,
but it is the talkback feature if you're streaming live
on the Aheart app, and with that you'll be able
to share whatever it is you want. And again, the
talkback line is now proudly partnered with Sudistractor driver dot Com,
Alex R. White PLLC. SO questions, complaints, compliments, insults, whatever
you've got, feel free to send them our way. So

(11:21):
the louisvill football team, we just discussed their upcoming matchup
with Virginia this weekend during our last update on Sports
with Scott and I feel I feel confident that Louisville
can win the game. But I still feel like I
have no real, no real clue of what we're working
with here. As a Louisville fan myself, I will say
that the effort that was given in the second half

(11:43):
against Pitts Pittsburgh, although I do think a lot of
that was Pittsburgh kind of just crumbling. But hey, that's
not your fault. If you're Louisville, you show that you're
able to take advantage of teams making mistakes, and again
that's what you're supposed to do. But I think that
type of performance what we saw in the second half
would be good enough for you to you probably beat
the majority of the teams on your schedule, maybe outside

(12:04):
of a Miami or maybe even at Clemson. Although they're
down this year, still, I still know that they're going
to be one of the better teams in the ACC
that Louisville does face. But on the Kentucky side, I'm
not surprised, but it is sort of standing out to
me that this seems like the lowest of low for
Mark Stoops as far as the fan base just not

(12:25):
seeing this working out long term. And I think it
was Drew Franklin who said this yesterday on KSR, and
I agree with him. The best case scenario probably for
Kentucky fans, if, of course, this continues to play out
the way that it is, I mean, they could very
realistically not win a game in the SEC, and that
more than anything, has to do with the fact that

(12:46):
the SEC is such a good league and their schedule
is so tough. But still going winless in your conference
when you're coming off of a really, really bad year,
that's not a good recipe for Marx. Stoops certainly not
heading in the right direction. But the best case scenario,
as Drew mentioned, was that Stoops would understand the situation,
could read the room and it's not going to walk,
but might take a reduced buyout just to end it

(13:08):
because of how bad things are going. That really just
comes down to him, right can he can he withstand
being somebody that everybody wants gone? And I don't know
enough about him individually only he would be able to
answer that. But that's probably best case scenario. But it
is wild to see how different things are now with
Stoops compared to just a few years ago, whenever they're

(13:30):
coming off of his second ten win season that later
was vacated and there being a real discussion among the
fans should they go ahead and start building a statue
for Mark Stoops. That's where we were not that long ago,
and now not so much. This is a clip from
a few years ago where KSR was asking fans outside

(13:54):
of the stadium before a game, should they go ahead
and get started on the Mark Stoops statue, And at
that time, clearly fans felt much differently about Stoops than
they do now.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
It's building.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
I'll help, I'll get some money.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
What we're gonna do?

Speaker 2 (14:08):
You're not even a maybe you're ready to get as build.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
It right now?

Speaker 3 (14:11):
He's a man.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Yeah, Stuart building it right now?

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Should we build a Mark Stoop statue already?

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Well? Hell yeah, he deserves it.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Is it time for the Mark Stoop statue?

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Or are we a little early? In this conversation, We're.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Never too early for a Mark Stoope statue.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
We're overdue. So I mean to be fair to Mark
Stoops and to those Kentucky fans that probably were asked
and now feel differently. What would be really unfortunate is
if this does play out over multiple years where he
just rides out this fat contract he should have never received,
because that will change his legacy. And regardless if this

(14:46):
is the last year or not, I don't think it's
going to be. But if it was, he still did
a really good job in the grand scheme of things.
He just would, I think, be a guy that you'd
look back and say, we appreciate the good work that
he did. However, we you know, we also know that
he was a part of sort of it crumbling and
not really needing even he was a factor in why
it all fell apart and it was not it was

(15:07):
not able to be repaired.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Maybe instead of a statue now can be like a
bobblehead or something.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Maybe let me give you I've got another piece of
sound I want to play real quickly here, John, because
this is this is another audio, a piece of sound
to play on the show that I think kind of
currently sets the tone for their fan base because somebody
has put together this is this of course is not
is not real, but I'll just play it for you
rather than trying to explain it myself. But this is

(15:33):
the current I guess, tone of the Kentucky fan base
about Marx Tubes, which is much different than again what
you just heard from years back when they were talking
about building the statue.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Latter day across Kentucky, innocent fans suffer, They've cheered, they've hoped,
they've believed, and yet heartbreak finds them again. For just
a small monthly gift you can help end this suffering.
Your donation will go directly to the Mark Stoops buyout funds,

(16:02):
giving Kentucky football a chance at a brighter tomorrow. Please
don't change the channel. The Wildcats can't help themselves. But
you can call now and we'll send you a picture
of a Kentucky fan smiling again.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
So there's a that's a video by the way, and you,
of course can't see it, but it shows just clips
of Mark Stoops yelling, clips of their quarterback getting sacked,
and then at the end it says, together we get
end the suffering. Call hundred fire Stoops or visit in
the Stoops Era dot or which I don't believe those
are real numbers, or I mean, I'm sure it's not

(16:51):
a real number, but the website, I'm not really sure.
But yeah, it is a tough situation because look, this happens.
Programs bought them out every now then, and it's rare
for big time programs, but happened in Louisville. The end
of the Bobby Patrino era was a year where Louisville
quite literally was the worst team in the country of
the power level. So it happens, but not having an

(17:12):
exit strategy because you just know the school is unlikely
to be able to pay thirty eight million dollars in
six days. That's a level of helplessness, helplessness that I'm
sure is tough for fans. And it's just difficult because
you want Stoops to be the guy and work because
he changed how you view your football program. But man,
it's not good right now. All right, quick time out.
We've got trafficking weather updates on the way right here

(17:32):
on news Radio eight forty whas. It's six forty eight
here at news Radio eight forty whas. Appreciate you hanging
out with us. Don't forget we are now fuel about Thorntons.
It is coffee and company. I'd love saying that, and
you'll hear me say it a lot, and I hope
you're not bothered by because it's it's it's the truth.

(17:53):
We are field about Thorton's here coffee and company with
you on news radio eight forty whas. So what we're
gonna do coming up in the seven o'clock Couri that's
just going to be the giveaway hour. We're just giving
out awesome stuff. I've got a freebee pack from Thornton's. Here,
we're talking a free doughnut, a free drink if your choice,
could be coffee, could be a fizz freeze, could be
the Fountain drink that's got the phenomenal nugget ice. Also,

(18:16):
you get any burrito you want, or any roller item,
any roller grill items. So those four freebies, we're given
those away. We'll do that in the seven o'clock hour.
But also we've got a couple more giveaways for our
wine fest that is going to be taking place here.
Whine on the River is the event, and it's going
to be October. It starts let's see, Yeah, it's October

(18:36):
the eleven, so it'll be not this upcoming weekend, but
the next weekend, and it'll be from two to six
at the Belvidere. And we have tickets to give away.
I totally forgot about it yesterday, but we did give
a pair away on Monday. We'll do it again in
the seven o'clock hour, and also another giveaway in the
eight o'clock hour. So stick around and I'll tell you
how you could be the lucky winner of not only
some passes to the Wine on the River event, but

(18:58):
some free itemss. All right, So the government is shut down,
and I'm sure I'm not telling you that for the
first time, meaning I'm sure you probably already knew. This
was something that was seemingly expected, as it did not
appear that either side was going to make any any
adjustments to their end right. Nobody seemed to be conceding,

(19:19):
And that, of course, is how things ended up playing out.
And there are many that won't be affected really at
all and may not even notice it. But there are
also others that may not necessarily feel the same impact negatively.
But still, I think just the uneasiness would be is
someone myself who worries more than I probably should, I

(19:42):
would be just uneasy knowing that this could last a
couple of days, could last a month. You just don't know.
And I guess not knowing is a scary thing for
a lot of folks when it comes to their paycheck.
So we'll see how this thing plays out. But yes,
the government is shut down. That, of course is probably
all is going to be the lead story when you
find yourself in a situation like this. But polls show

(20:04):
Americans are split on who to blame, with one showing
twenty six percent blaming Trump and Republicans, nineteen percent blaming Democrats,
and thirty three percent blaming both equally. So again that's
just one poll, one way to measure it. I'm sure
everybody's got their own thoughts as far as who's to
blame here, But I'm sure if you're impacted by it
and you're worried about how long it's going to last,

(20:25):
and you actually getting a paycheck, you don't care who's
fault it is. You just want to fixed, understandably. So
all right, it is six fifty. Let's get another update
of traffick and whether we've also got another sports update
coming your way with Scott Fitzgerald. Right here, it's Coffee
and Company. Pilbeuth Thornton's on News Radio eight forty whas
