Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Monday morning. It is six oh five here at
news Radio eight forty whas Coffee and Company fieldbe Thornton's
getting you started here another week Nick Coffee. That's me
John Alden alongside. You just heard John Shannon well Off.
Scott Fitzgerald back in in about twenty minutes with another
sports update, and the weekend of sports started on Friday
night for Louisville fans with a big win Jeff Brom
(00:20):
and his team knocking off number two, the biggest road
win in program history as far as just taking down
an opponent that is believed to be that good, Miami
at number two in the eightp pole. In fact, Jeff
Brom in two and a half years, has now pulled
off the two biggest road victories in the history of
the program. Of course Friday against Miami and then last
(00:41):
year against Clemson, who was ranked number eleven at the time,
and of course Louisville's first victory at at Clemson. So
good momentum right now, no doubt. And it really is
one of the more rare and random but yet really
impressive stats that you'll see about a head coach who's
just seemingly so successfu full in these games. And I
(01:03):
don't you know, trends are trends for a reason. But
I would never look at the game Friday and think, well, yeah,
he's never lost this game, so they're gonna win. I mean,
I guess you feel good knowing that your coach has
really delivered in those moments, rather it be with you
as your coach or when he's at Purdue, even Western Kentucky.
But as far as those that just say he's built
(01:25):
for that moment, he certainly showed that he is exactly
that on Friday, because I'm not sure if Looiville will
play that well again this year, especially defensively and then
on offense. Obviously, Isaac Brown got to see a healthy
version of him. In fact, I'm not sure how healthy
he actually is, but obviously one of the better running
backs in the country, and Chris Bell might be the
(01:46):
best wide receiver in the country. That's not hyperbole. If
you go look at his numbers and you look at
what he's doing, I mean, he's to me, he's he's
entering the conversation as far as being the best Louisville
football player to play here since Lamar Jackson and sound
like a strong statement, But again, the results are there,
and he's doing it against good teams like Miami who
seemingly just had no answer for him. And also Isaac Brown.
(02:11):
This is just one of those football nerd stats, but
I do think even if you don't follow it that
closely and know a whole lot about analytics, this should
sound as impressive as it actually is. Isaac Brown, he
forced sixteen miss tackles against Miami. No other running back
this past weekend in college football had more than eight.
That's a guy that is dangerous. And again, the Louisville
(02:32):
defense shutting down an explosive Miami offense. I mean, if
you can do that on Friday, why can't you win
the rest of your games? Now, again, I know Louisville,
they lose games. Well, Jeff BROWMS seems to lose a
game to a team he should not lose to right
after he pulls off the victory like he did on Friday.
But just the same thing I'll say about trends, just
(02:53):
because that's happened before doesn't mean that we should just
expect that. And you'd have to have a really bad
game in order to beat a bad Boston college team.
That may be close to firing their head coach, Bill O'Brien,
which I'm not really sure what Boston College would do.
I mean, it's not as if that job is going
to attract a whole lot of interest. Certainly, not a
good time to get in the market for a coach
(03:15):
if you're not an elite job because of the jobs
that are open, and of course the other jobs that
are probably going to be open once the season ends.
But right now, Boston College, they are twenty four and
a half point underdogs in this game on Saturday night.
And by the way, let's look at the updated the
updated eight people a lot of losses, a lot of
(03:35):
upsets this week and louill of course knocking off number
two that certainly moved Miami down and put Louisville into
the top twenty. They're at number nineteen. But it wasn't
wasn't just Louisville that pulled off the upset Georgia. They
ended up beating Ole Miss. Georgia was ranked ninth. Old
Miss was ranked fifth. But do we consider that an upset?
I mean, I think Ole Miss was seven and a
(03:56):
half point dogs. John, So yeah, the ranking tells us
it's an upset. When Lane Kiffin in those games, I'm sorry,
really good coach, he'll probably win nine, ten, maybe eleven
annually at all missed, but he just doesn't.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Win those games. Yeah, when you have teams that close
together ranked and one of course one of them is
gonna be the home team, it feels like the home
team's always favored, even if they're the team that's ranked
worse than the others. So that's, yes, technically an upset
by numbers, you know, nine versus five, But I don't
think people really consider that an upset.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Am I wrong about Lane? Because again, I get why
everybody thinks he'd be a good fit at Florida, and
I think he's a good coach. There's no doubt he's
already made Ole miss more, I guess, consistently relevant than
maybe they've ever been as far as just longevity. But
that game Saturday is the game that it's the hump
that he's just yet to be able to get over,
and it's it's look, there's no shame. I mean, a
(04:47):
lot of teams are going to be Georgia, a lot
of teams are going to beat Bama, but you know
kind of feel like he's been He's been right there
for a while and just hadn't been able to break through.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
I don't get how Florida kind of sees that Lane
Kiffin can be their savior. What has he proven that
it makes him this elite coach? Maybe maybe he can
make it work at Florida, something like, look, Florida.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Look, if Lane Kiffin did exactly what he's done at
O'll miss at Florida, that would be a massive upgrade
compared to what Florida's been used to for the last
fifteen years. But they think that they're clearly you know,
they want to get back to winning national titles and
everybody wants to do that. That's not really reality for
a lot of people. But yeah, Lank Kevin, he's an
intriguing candidate because nobody would say you'd be hiring a
bad coach, but also, you know, would he be the
guy that can get you where you want to be?
(05:26):
Some other upsets Alabama, well not upsets, but other ranked
teams that lost. I should say number six Alabama rolled
past number eleven Tennessee and they are on fire. That
fshu loss is a head scratcher because Bama has been
great ever since then. Also Texas Tech at number seven.
They fall to Arizona State. That was a big upset.
LSU ranked number ten, they lose to Vandy, who, by
the way, Vandy's real, I mean yeah, say it out loud,
(05:50):
nobody will believe you. Bandy is a top ten football program.
So again the top five. You got Ohio State, followed
by Indiana, Texas A and m Alabama and Georgia's So
shake up over the weekend in college football, no doubt.
All right, quick time out, what do I want to
do after we get an update on traffic and weather.
There was a shooting that took place at a bar
here in Louisville that has become a big story. We'll
(06:13):
talk about sort of what that is as far as
the ABC getting involved, but stick around right here. It's
the news radio to wait forty whas. So, there was a
shooting at the Double Deuce bar that has raised in
some big questions. A double shooting happened early Saturday morning,
and now folks are asking exactly what happened, what didn't happen?
A lot of he said, she said, And the reason
(06:33):
this has become a big story is because of the accusations.
So the shooting took place well Metro ABC they stepped
in and suspended the liquor license from this restaurant. Double
Deuce is because they determined that the shooting happened around
two am, but LMPD was not notified until four hours later,
(06:54):
when two women showed up at Norton West Hospital around
I guess about five point forty five. So there's a
councilwoman in that area, Tammy Hawkins, who says one of
the victims told her that the bar staff tried to
bribe her with a VIP card instead of calling for help,
which can you imagine? Oh, what's that? You just got shot?
Let me make it up to you. How about this
(07:15):
little look what I got here? You see that VIP
card Double Deuce's Bar.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (07:22):
You know you came out on the winning end And I, yeah,
you got shot, but we got a VIP card for
you Double Deuce Bar. You think that's how the conversation went.
Maybe I don't know, but the victim does not drink
or smoke, according to Councilwoman Hawkins, and I was simply
eating when shots were fired, so no one heard any
(07:43):
argument or a fight at all before the gun went off,
So I don't an accidental firing of a gun, but
you know, and that can't happen. But yeah, not a
good situation overall. And despite somebody being shot, the claims
are that this bar kept partying until they closed the
doors at four am. So ABC has side of the
(08:05):
bar's failure to report the shooting and to prevent weapons
on site as the reason for their immediate suspension. So,
I mean, I don't know a whole lot about the
overall process as far as how you would come off
said suspension. But I mean offering a VIP card to
bribe someone who got shot from reaching out to authorities,
(08:27):
and I guess reporting the police, reporting this to the police,
and then also deciding to just keep the party going
after again someone was shot. In fact, two people were shot.
Looks like so twenty six in Broadway, the corner twenty
six in Broadway, that is where this is located. And
I guess that's been a persistent trouble spot. I guess
(08:49):
previous shootings at other places near by there have been
have been. In fact, Mary Greenberg did say their office
by the way, Mer Greenberg's office, I should say, did
note the police presence in that area has increased by
five hundred percent, and that Louisville will continue to use
swift action against businesses that foster violence. Yeah, I would
say the way in which they handled business on that
(09:11):
night would would would would potentially be something that will
no longer have them open as a business. But we'll see.
All right, it's six twenty one here at news Radio
eight forty whas. We'll get a check of traffic from
Bobby Ellis, Matt Melosovich will update us on the forecast,
and we've got another sports update coming your way from
Scott Fitzgerald. So stick around right here on News Radio
eight forty whas. I know I can be the only
(09:35):
one who when Kentucky went for it for the second
time on the fourth and inch line in overtime against Texas,
that was thinking, well, certainly there's no way they get
stopped twice right here. But that's that's exactly what happened.
And what a weird game for Kentucky fans because obviously
a win there it would have added, it would have
(09:55):
added a lot of excitement in real time and maybe
some would have said, Okay, this is the proof that
Mark Stoops still can get it done. Now again he lost,
but still his team came ready to play. They were
better than Texas, just really flat out throughout the game.
Now if they played ten times, what's the result. Who knows?
But Mark Stoops had his team ready to play. They
(10:16):
were just better, and yet they couldn't come through. So
maybe it's a silver lining because even if you do win,
does that mean that things have changed to where maybe
there's not a need for a new football coach at
least now? I guess it doesn't get awkward. Maybe it
wouldn't have got awkward regardless. But some of these stats
are just simply unreal as far as seeing who won
(10:37):
and lost the game. After looking at some of these,
some of these numbers, I mean time of possession, Kentucky
had the ball for forty minutes roughly Texas had it
for twenty first downs And this is insane. Kentucky had
twenty six first downs, Texas had eight. In the entire game.
Total yards Kentucky had three hundred and ninety five. Texas
had one hundred and seventy nine. I mean, those are
(11:00):
just numbers that take those three specifically, and you would
you would wonder what scenario could have played out to
where you don't win the game, and unfortunately for Kentucky,
they executed exactly how to how to lose a game,
despite dominating the game in a lot of statistical categories.
(11:21):
This is the fewest first downs Kentucky has allowed against
a ranked team since nineteen seventy six, but didn't matter.
They lose. They're now two and fifteen in the last
seventeen SEC games, and they would have had the new
longest streak of ACC the longest streak for SEC losses.
(11:44):
But Missouri not Missouri. I'm sorry. Mississippi State ended up
gifting Florida and Billy Napier a win before he was
booted just the next day. But it just seems hard
for Mark Stoops to be able to get fans on
board to where they believe he's the guy they can
get them back where they need to be. And a
(12:04):
win would have helped how much. We'll never know because
they didn't They didn't win, but if anything, it's at
least a sign that he can get that group ready
to play in a game like that would have been
really easy for them to just completely mail it in.
I mean, this is all would it could have should
have stuff, but still he out coached Steve Sarkegian. Brad
White exposed the bad quarterback play from from arch Manning.
(12:28):
I heard Matt mentioned this on the KSR post game show,
and I'm not sure he's wrong. Arch Manning is the
worst quarterback Kentucky's played so far this year, and I'm
not sure it's close. And yes, we're considering quarterbacks that
played for you know, whoever else they played that nobody's
ever heard of, or the schools that aren't even you know,
you know they had a Toledo one of them, and
then they played Eastern. Yeah. So, and I'm not to
(12:51):
the point where I feel bad for him. Some people
are starting to say, oh, I feel sad for this guy.
I mean, I look, it's unfortunate if he's just been
labeled as a GA who is the next best thing
because of his name, Like he really can't help that.
But when it comes to truly having sympathy for people,
somebody with the last name Manning who plays quarterback in Texas,
it's not somebody I'm going to really be genuinely sympathetic for.
(13:13):
But he's bad, Like he's just not good. And I'm
not sure there's really any argument at this point that
he's anywhere close to being worthy of what was said
about him, including Baul Feinenbaum saying he's the best player
of all time, like that's what he's going to be,
Like that's ever played the game of football. I mean,
(13:34):
that's hilarious given sort of where we are.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
But he's just the.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Second quarterback ever over the last thirty seasons to complete
less than forty five percent of their passes against Kentucky
and still win the game. So again, a lot of
numbers that just make you wonder how in the world
did Kentucky not win And it's still a question that
again we'll never have the answer or two. But if
(14:01):
you are Kentucky fan, they just wants something fresh. You
appreciate Stoops for all he's done, but you want the
program to go in a different direction. First of all,
that's completely understandable, and I guess that is silver lining
here is that they did lose once again, which doesn't
do anything but just make the Stoop situation a little
bit more obvious as to what's going on here. All right,
let's get to a quick traffic and weather update. On
the other side, we'll talk about this big outage with AWS,
(14:25):
and you may not know what in the world that is.
And if that's the case, I totally understand, But its
outage is causing some real issues with a variety of
the platforms you utilize each and every day. So we'll
talk about that on the other side right here on
Who's Radio eight forty wahas. So if there are certain
things you log into in the morning to maybe get
(14:47):
your workday started, maybe just to check out one of
your social media pages, you may have noticed it not working.
And if that's the case, it's because Amazon Web Services
have as a major outage that has really taken down
a lot of platforms that depend on Amazon's cloud computing arms.
So AWS, this widespread outage has I guess it took
(15:12):
place overnight and they did confirm that their access was
shut off. So platforms like Snapchat, Facebook, Fortnite, Disney Plus, Roadblocks,
Delta Airlines, Hulu, McDonald's United Airlines, at and T's online portal,
(15:32):
Canava which is a graphics creative platform. So but others
that aren't in this write up as far as just
that have been impacted, you know it lingers right, like
the iHeartRadio app had some issues this morning overnight. I
wouldn't be shocked if it's tied to this. I believe
in a previous AWS issue, we've had some complications to
(15:54):
some things. I believe everything's good to go now. But
one thing that I saw this morning that stood out
before I even knew of this AWS issue, is that
a lot of podcasts that do twice weekly episodes they'll
they'll upload on a Monday morning to get people started
for the week, and a lot of folks I guess
are trying to find their podcasts that they are to
(16:16):
download the updated podcast episode because it's probably become Monday
morning routine for them and it's not working. So they've
identified the issue they're fixing it. It sounds like right
now things are slowly but surely coming back online, coming
back to life. So sounds like if you do still
have issues accessing something that you rely on, it won't
be too long. But yeah, always a reminder when these
(16:38):
things happen, just how much we rely on connectivity. All right,
let me tell you can rely on when it comes
to correcting a rectalitis function. That's my friends over at
the Louisville Men's Clinic. Nobody wants to have a rectalitis function.
I mean, maybe you'll find somebody that does. I don't
know why, but if they do, I can help them
fix it. I guess if they want to have it,
then they wouldn't need help fixing it. Either way. What
(16:59):
I'm getting at is it's probably something that you may
be avoiding talking about or addressing, or maybe you're even
in denial because again, it's an uncomfortable thing. But why
would you not do something about it. My friends at
the Loiver Men's Clinic, they understand the delicate situation. They'll
make it as comfortable as possible for you to get
this corrected. And if it doesn't get corrected, meaning it
(17:20):
doesn't work, you don't pay. Anything you don't perform, you
don't pay. They've got a variety of options when it
comes to the ways they can treat it. Do this
for yourself, but also do it for your partner. Check
my friends out at the Louisville Men's Clinic. You can
check them out online at Loivelemn'sclinic dot com or give
them a call at five two four four four four thousand.
All right, we've got traving weather updates on the way.
Another sports update as well, as we've got a cool
(17:41):
morning here getting it started on a Monday, so stick
with US News Radio eight forty whas
