Speaker 1 (00:00):
Every time I look up, I see another platform that
is reliant on the AWS servers that are I guess
coming back to Life, coming back online. And the latest
is the ring doorbell service, like the camera so if
you use that to pull up the live camera of
your doorbell at any moment or when somebody's ringing your doorbell.

(00:22):
I don't know if it's fixed by now, but that's
one of the many, many services that have been impacted
by the Amazon Web Services outage. Also Life three sixty
I believe that's the uh. It's like the tracking app
that people have to I guess, track the locations of
family members, that kind of stuff. So again it's the
good news is they do know what happened and they're

(00:43):
just working to fix it. But yes, each time again,
as I've just refreshed to see what the latest latest
is as far as just the progress they're working on it,
a lot of the impacted platforms have already kind of
fixed it, have come back, but I'm sure many others
haven't just yet, and it's going to be a long process.
When you can consider just how many rely on this,
I mean, to me, this is crazy. AWS serves more

(01:06):
than four million customers worldwide and controls roughly thirty percent
of the global cloud infrastructure market. Meaning these disruptions are
gonna be impact. I mean airline apps, right, there's many
of them, So just be patient and I would imagine
by the time we wrap up the show today, unless
I mean I'm just guessing here, but usually these things,

(01:27):
once they identify the problem, they're able to get it
and get it back up and running pretty quickly. Because again,
even a brief outage is going to be noticed by
quite a few people. But if it gets to be
a throughout the day thing, I mean, it could keep
people from being able to work, depending upon what you do.
All right, it's seven oh six here News Radio eight
forty whas Happy Monday, t Hopefully you had yourselves a
good weekend as we get another week started. The weekend

(01:49):
started off great for Louisville fans on Friday night as
Jeff Brom continues to do what Jeff Brom does, win
games against elite teams that are ranked in the top five.
I mean, this is one of the more random yet
impressive statue will find. Jeff Brom now moves to four
and zero as a head coach against top three opponents

(02:10):
when his team is not ranked, and this one might
not really sound as impressive as it actually is, or
maybe I'm just being a Louisville fan and making it
seem more impressive than it actually is. But in games
where his teams are double digit underdogs, he's won five

(02:30):
of those games outright in the last thirteen double digit
dog right, it's not again. Miami was a favorite here
about two touchdowns thirteen and a half because they're the
number two team in the country. I don't think it
was because people thought Louisville was a lousy team. I
think Miami would have been big favorites at home against
a lot of teams that they play. So the guy
wins in those spots. And I tell you what, it's

(02:53):
nice to have a guy like that, because what this
win does for Louisville is it And we have no clue,
by the way, what happens the rest the way. I
do think the opponent coming in on Saturday is a
good one to break the curse of losing a game
that you should never lose right after winning a game
that of course has a lot of value, and Jeff

(03:15):
knows it, by the way, if you guys remember last
year after they knocked off I think it was Clemson,
and then they lost to Stanford. The year before that,
they beat Notre Dame and then lost to Pitt. I mean,
he's not bothered by people bringing it up because he's
more bothered by that unfortunate trend more than anybody, and
if he knew how to fix it, he would. But

(03:35):
his team simply lay an egg after a big win
in most cases. But I think they'd have to lay
an unspeakable egg to lose to a bad Boston College
team again Louisville on Saturday night, which, by the way,
under the lights a night game on Saturday for Louisville fans.
They've got Kansas coming to town for that basketball exhibition,
so a big weekend for card fans coming up. But
twenty four and a half is the spread. Louisvill's favored

(03:57):
by twenty four and a half points. So that's how
bad Boston College. So fingers crossed they can avoid the
unthinkable slip up there. But yes, it has happened before.
But the college football playoff expansion. When I used to
talk sports every day for three hours, I talked a
lot about the expansion and initially I was very much
against it because I just thought it was a waste

(04:18):
of time because as popular as college football is, more
often than not, you don't really especially before the portal
and nil. I mean, you could have a four team
playoff like they had for a while there and know
that it's going to come down to one or two teams,
just because typically by the time you get at the
end of the season, we know which teams realistically can
win it all, and it's insanely rare that one of

(04:40):
those teams doesn't actually win it. So I didn't think
that expanding the playoff made a lot of sense because
we're wasting time. It doesn't actually make anybody legitimately closer
to winning a championship. But what it does for the
sport is it gives you a lot. It's much more
inclusive now because teams like Indiana last year they made
the playoff and they didn't win a game when they

(05:01):
got there. But maybe Indian is not a good example
just because of how rare their current situation is. But
you can now you can now realistically make a college
football playoff and it can be viewed as a final
four for you as far as what it does, you know,
I think you could compare in basketball, nobody would ever
say that a final four appearance is not a special season. Obviously,

(05:21):
sometimes you have higher expectations, and if you've got a
team that you know could win a title and they
come up short, that's going to be tough. But still
going to a Final four is never going to be
looked at as you had a failure of a year.
I think you could say the same thing in the
college football playoff, unless you're the teams that have been
going to the four team playoff on an annual basis,
because obviously expectations standards are different at that point. And
now teams that never would typically be able to get

(05:43):
to the four team playoff unless there was a miracle,
they can now realistically get to this party that is
the college football Playoff. And again I think if you
get there, you're one of those twelve or sixteen teams
if they expand, that's a special year. So right now,
what's happened is that Louisville really on the outside looking
in real needing to beat the number two team in
the country on the road to get back in the mix.

(06:05):
Tall task, but they they did it. So now they're
looking at themselves as a team that could potentially find
themselves there and who knows what happens. We have no clue,
but it's a It enhances the experience of the college
football season that you can you can be looking at
other team schedules and seeing who might need to help you,
and that just that makes it more fun. I know
Louisville's not a national championship contender, but they could find

(06:27):
themselves in the playoff and that would be awesome. Had
you just had a four team playoff, I mean, what
will we be looking at. Okay, well, maybe we can
get to the to the to the Belk Bowl and
look that may that may still happen. I don't want
to crap on the Belk Ball, but I'm just saying, like,
when you can dream big and keep that alive throughout
a good stretch of the season, it just makes it
more fun. It's a better experience for fans. I think, Well,

(06:49):
you leave it at the Belk bowlful jun, I don't
know how the Belk Bulls just a random bowl. Yeah, which,
by the way, those the ball games that are just
a sponsor's name always just make me laugh. Yeah. Well,
Tarts Bowl you got now well, and now those I
mean those games became even more irrelevant knowing that now
because you can more realistically get to the playoff, you're

(07:09):
not going to be as juice to go play in
these random you know's It Bowl? Yeah, the Gasparilla Mowers Bowl. Yeah,
there's a lot of them out there. All right, let's
get to a quick time out. We've got trafficing weather
updates on the way. We'll see how we're looking on traffic.
Bobby Ellis, he'll get us caught up there. So stick
around right here our news Radio ate forty whas. It
is seven eighteen Here at news Radio eight forty whas.

(07:31):
Hopefully you had yourselves a good weekend as we get
another week started here coffee in company with you, and
we are fueled by Thorntons. Keep Thorton's in mind when
it comes to your breakfast. I mean you could keep
them in mind twenty four to seven because they're open
twenty four seven for you. And if you're in Kentucky,
in there's likely one close to you, but a lot
of good breakfast options. And if you're looking for something
simple but also cheap, you can get a cup of

(07:52):
coffee in a donut for just three bucks. So again,
stop in one of the many locations and we are
proudly fueled by Thornton's. So the note King's pro tests
took place in Louisville this weekend. As I'm reading here
from our news partner WK, why they say thousands filled
the streets of downtown Louisville. How do they know that?

(08:13):
Like twenty six hundred people is is what Louisville's rally
was listed as far as the number, and I wasn't
there to see it, so have no clue. But like
nobody's buying tickets. Like when people give you a legit
number as far as a turnout, you're maybe it's an

(08:33):
educated guest, but like it should be noted that you
don't really know. I mean, it's it's impossible to know.
Not to say it's anybody's fault, but like to claim
there's this number of that number, you don't know. So
I drove. I was driving on Shelbyville Road, making my
way from the Saint Matthew's area. We were at Oxmore
Mall area. The family was on Saturday and we were

(08:55):
going to head to Hillcrest to see all the Halloween stuff,
which which is awesome every year, you've never checked it out.
I encourage you to just go stop in at Hillcrest
before Halloween comes to an end, because they've I mean,
you feel like you're in a movie, just walking around
a neighborhood that looks as if it was staged to
be in a Halloween movie. But on our way there,
as we got I guess where it turns near Frankfort Avenue,

(09:16):
that area there, I honestly I didn't know what it was,
just because from afar, I could just see a lot
of people on the side of the streets. But I mean,
we didn't get stuck in traffic. It wasn't as if
they were holding anybody up or anything like that. But
when we were waiting in a light, there was a
sign that, you know, said honk if you love democracy,

(09:37):
and there was one individual that like, if you weren't honking,
he would hold his sign sort of not stepping in
front of your car, but holding his sign out in
front of your windshield, trying to get your attention. And
I didn't honk, and most people didn't. They just wanted to,
you know, just keep driving and just just to know

(09:58):
that that was this individual now just assumes that you
know that I'm the worst. I guess because I wasn't
engaging in participating in whatever in the world they were
doing that day. And again everybody they weren't. Again, they
weren't the middle of the roadway, they weren't causing any
kind of issues, any kind of delay, at least where
I was. But I thought to myself, as I'm taking

(10:19):
my two kids to go look at Halloween stuff and
they my son asks, you know, what is this? And
I don't really know what to tell him, and he's
so young it didn't worth getting into a conversation about
any of it as far as even like what a
protest is. It's just he's far too young. But I
thought to myself, how many of these people out there?
And I'm not knocking anybody who wants to protest, because

(10:41):
you can do whatever you want. Doesn't impact me. Don't care.
I'd be a liar if I said I had any
feeling for anybody protesting, because again, you do what you want,
doesn't impact my life at all. Now, do I agree
with certain things people would protest about. No, But it's
you know, I can't lie to you and act like
I care at all. But I'm wondering how many people
they're doing that, like they they're so upset, so up

(11:02):
in arms about things that they disagree with, and clearly
not big fans of Donald Trump. That's putting it lightly,
But I'm just thinking how much has their livelihood and
their life been impacted with him now back in office
for a second time. And this is not like a
defensive Trump or anything like that. I'm just I don't
know when you see that many people out spending a

(11:23):
Saturday very passionate, and you have every right to do that.
I'm sure there are people who are just as passionate,
but it's completely the other side. That's how it goes.
But I just I'm coming from the point of you
should always be informed. You should. I mean, I guess
I say you should. You can do whatever you want.
But I just wonder how many people each day, their

(11:45):
their livelihood or their their situation has been impacted by
the change that took place whenever the recent election came
to an end, Because I just feel like, you know, hey,
that's a lot of time to be out, but hey,
you can spend your time doing whatever you want. You
have every right to do that. It's just I can't
think of many of anythings that would ever get me

(12:07):
to a point where I'm going to spend hours standing
on the side of a street with a sign yelling
at people. But again, you do you all right, let's
get to a quick update of traffic and weather. We've
also got another sports update coming your way with Scott
Fitzgerald right here on News Radio eight forty whas So,
we have a restaurant and bar here in Louisville that has,

(12:29):
I guess temporarily lost their liquor license as it's been
suspended by Metro ABC. So here's what we know. A
double shooting took place inside Double Due Sports Bar and
Grill early Saturday morning, and what happened after that has
led to the decision by ABC to suspend the license.
So LMPD was not notified about this double shooting until

(12:51):
nearly four hours after it happened, when two women showed
up at Norton West Hospital around five point forty so
counsel and Tammy Hawkins in that area. She claims that
one of the victims in that shooting told her the
bar staff tried to bribe her with a v P
card instead of calling for help, which sounds unbelievable, but

(13:14):
that's the allegation. Oh you got shot, don't worry, don't worry.
You're gonna you're gonna, You're gonna forget you even have
a gunshot wound. We're gonna give you a v P
card to Double Deuce's Sports Bar and grill. You came
out ahead tonight. Yeah, you got shot, but look at this,
I've got the v P card for you. I doubt
that was the exact exchange, but still not something you

(13:37):
you would you would typically expect. So because of this,
that's why the the ABC has decided to suspend the license.
Now UH with in a conversation with with w d RB,
the owner of h of that bar has has decided
to UH decided to to to give an update as

(13:58):
far as just I guess their side of it. And
I'm trying to skim through here just to see because
I mean, I would assume, let's see here it says
I'll read directly here this again, this is WDRB that
let's see. Well that's that's that's what I get for
trying to read here on the fly. Yeah, So the
one of the owners spoke with WDRB and said he

(14:21):
got a call there was a shooting and went to investigate.
And here's the quote says, the way we understand it
is that somebody actually managed to get past security with
a weapon. They dropped it on the floor, it went off,
and if these two ladies actually got hit, then it
had to be some sort of sharp knell. Definitely not
a shooting. Sorry, definitely not a shooter shooting running around

(14:42):
shooting people inside the club, which again I guess that's
that's that's good to know that it wasn't anything like
that it was, because again it does sound as if
it's an accident. All reports claim that there was no
any There was not any any sign of a fight
or any type of an issue that led up to
somebody getting on a gun and shooting anybody. The victim
was there just eating, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, but was

(15:04):
eating in their own world, enjoying a meal, and gunfire
went off and they got hit by something. So I
guess context is always important in situations like this, full context,
So it is worth something knowing that it wasn't some
issue that just led to gunfire because of a conflict

(15:26):
but still you're still responsible, and don't I don't think
this owner's claiming that they're not. But that does at
least explain how somebody was how they got past them,
that's what we don't know. But somebody did get past
security with a gun, which is a real issue that
that that occurred, and then to according to the owner,
something fell on the ground and that led to or
the gun fell on the ground that led to maybe

(15:47):
an accidental shooting. So doesn't seem as if those victims
in the shooting are suffering life threatening injuries. But still,
if there was no there was no alerting police that
that took place at all, and if the if the
accusation is true that somebody was bribed by being offered

(16:08):
a VIP card to this club rather than you know,
instead of calling the authorities because they had some type
of gunshot wound or some some kind of wound from
a gun from a gun. I mean that that's you
can't make this stuff up. So anyways, all right, again
real quick, just to give you guys the latest on
this AWS server outage. I've said throughout the morning, each

(16:29):
time I look just to see where they are as
far as getting everything back online. I see another platform
that a lot of people probably utilize that may not
have been working this morning, or may not even be
working at this time right now, Like if you play
PlayStation online. You can't use it if you are trying
to use one of the airline apps. In fact, I

(16:50):
think there's a couple of airline apps that use it,
the McDonald's app. So this AWS outage is a reminder
just how much we were like ion connectivity. And it
also reminds you why Amazon is worth what Amazon is
worth because Amazon Web Services, they provide four million customers

(17:10):
worldwide with the things that they utilize as far as connection,
So thirty percent of the global cloud infrastructure market is
utilized as AWS. So whenever you have an outage like this,
that's how you see such a widespread issue, even a
platform like Snapchat, which Snapchat is still around, I mean,

(17:31):
I guess it is. I just that's the one social
media platform that became a big deal around the time
where I was in the age range that was being
targeted for all the new social media stuff. I never
understood the hype I'll just text somebody a picture. I mean,
I'm clearly in the minority because I'm sure there's many

(17:52):
of you that still are using it, but I never
I could never figure it out. But that's just me.
I'm sure there's billions of people using right now. Right,
let's get an update of Travick in Weathers. Shall we
don't go anywhere? Keep it locked right here. It's Kentucky
and it's Morning News on News Radio eight forty whas.
We'll talk to Rory on El of NBC News coming
up at about eight thirty five about the heist that

(18:16):
took place in France. It's one of those things that
almost seems unreal because it seems, quite literally like it's
straight out of a movie. We say that a lot
right sounds like something you'd see in a movie. This.
I think this is a movie right this. The details
here make it feel as if it's actually a movie
I've watched before. But a real life jewel heist in

(18:37):
France that has captivated the world. A daring daylight robbery
at the Louver Museum and sounds like Ocean's eleven right
four thieves, power tools, scooters, not amateurs for sure, people
who clearly knew what they were doing, and investigators believe
this was organized crime of some sorts, but heists are fast.

(19:01):
I don't know if it's the mix of intelligence, planning rebellion,
but Ocean's Eleven that was a big time success, so
much so that they made multiple movies after Ocean's Eleven.
But I don't know how many they made, but certainly
the original, that's the only one I can think of
that I've watched. The Italian Job, Money Heist The Town. Also,

(19:25):
there's a really good Netflix docuseries called Heist If You've
Never Seen, and it breaks down true stories behind some
of the biggest scores, as they call them, and in fact,
one of them was about was actually based off of
a heist that took place here in Kentucky. Yeah. So
in Netflix's Heist docuseries, there's a two part episode called
The Bourbon King and this story got a lot of attention.

(19:47):
Some of you may remember it, but it was all
about the infamous Pappy van Winkle bourbon theft. They followed
a guy who was a long time employee at Bufalo,
Trace and Frankfurt who ran a black market bourbon operation
stealing those rare bottles of happy and eventually he got caught.
But it was known nationwide as Pappygate, but the docuseries
gives you a behind the scenes look as far as

(20:09):
how that all went down. Also another heist. This is
a movie, not a TV show, but it's got a
Kentucky connection. This movie was really good. It's called American
Animals and this took place long ago, but it's the
art heist that was pulled off by college kids, I believe,
at Transylvania many many years ago, I think in the

(20:29):
early two thousands, and it became a national headline because
of what they stole and what its value was. And again,
it was a heist in the movie itself. I mean,
by the way, it's not a documentary movie. They made
an actual real movie on it and included those that
were involved in that heist, and just a really good movie.
But I'm always somebody that enjoys when I watch a

(20:49):
movie knowing that it's based off of a true story. So, yeah,
we've got ourselves another heist. And it sounds like those
investigating the one that took place at the Louver saying that, right, Louve,
you got it. I feel like I feel like I'm saying,
like a typical redneck the lover love and I did
a little little searching as far as how you can
pronounce that, and I guess there's different ways to pronounce it,

(21:10):
but I'll just say louve and you give me the
thumbs up, John, then I'm gonna stick with that. But yeah,
it sounds like if they don't, they feel as if
they don't. And I guess there are previous examples that
support this is that if they don't get detailed info
as far as tracking down a potential sub suspect within
you know, sixty hours or whatever it is, they he
becomes much less likely they solve this, which it's not good.

(21:34):
All right, let's get to it. Update to trafficking weather.
We'll also get another sports update. Come in your way,
don't go anywhere. We were wrapping up the seven o'clock
hour on news Radio eight forty whas
