Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's coffee and company with you here on a Tuesday morning,
and we are fueled about Thorntons. Keep Thortons in mind
when you get your day started. At really any point
throughout the day, there's nearly fifty Kentucky in location, so
if you are in Kentucky, Ina, there's likely one close
to you, keep them in mind. Not only for breakfast.
Do you hear me mention that a lot? Of course,
you know because we're on the air in the morning
and they've got a lot of good breakfast options. But
if you ever find yourself crunched for time to where

(00:23):
you maybe need to get a quick lunch and you
don't have time to go sit down and eat somewhere
you don't have time to wait to drive through, keep
Thorntons in mind. They've got a lot of good options
when it comes to just something you can go grab
and be in and out, take it back to work,
and not only eat pretty quickly and conveniently, but they
also have delicious food items. I'm telling you they I

(00:44):
think are a big factor in the stigma being changed
when it comes to gas station and convenience store food.
So can't recommend them enough. We are again fueled by
Thornton's been a busy morning so far. One thing though,
that I wanted to make sure and mention is because
I think it's interesting and I hope you guys will
all so find it interesting. The Courier Journal did a
breakdown letting us know which license plates in the state

(01:05):
of Kentucky are the most popular. And what I mean
by that is those of you that get the specialty
plate where you want not just to maybe a cut me.
I guess you could do like a custom license plate
as far as you know the number, but one that
is either U of L or UK or marine veteran

(01:26):
and some good info here, and you've got a total.
Actually me let me, let me quiz the one and
only John Alden, the company man himself. How many options
do you think you have as far as license plate
options in the state of Kentucky. I bet you got
it's a set up here because the number blew me away.
I bet it's like twenty nearly two hundred. Oh my god,

(01:47):
I don't understand how that. I don't I don't think
they can't be They can't be true, right.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
I mean, maybe that's just how many unique combinations of
design you can have. I don't know or I've seen
a lot of different ones. Yes, it kind of makes sense.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yes, one to me that just looks the same.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Maybe there's different variations of that to where that's where
you get to that number. But yeah, nearly two hundred
license plate options in Kentucky, and the ones that are
the most popular is the University of Kentucky plate. So
according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the UK plate the
collegiate design is the most popular in the state, with

(02:23):
forty five, two hundred and forty two plates on the road.
I will say I was stunned by this number, but
also happy to see it as a Louisville fan myself.
The University of Louisville follows with thirty four thoy nine
hundred and eighty three cardinal plates. So I know that
that's ten thousand difference between UK and u of L.

(02:44):
And if you're a UK fan and you want to
dunk on U of L for that, knock yourself out.
But I'm somebody that's always been very much one. I'm content,
I'm secure about the size of the Louisville fan base,
but also it's just pretty obvious there are way more
people in this state that are Kentucky fans than Louisville fans.
I mean, there are a ton of Kentucky fans in

(03:05):
this city. I mean, I think it's I think it's
closer to fifty fifty than a lot of people choose
to realize. And I guess there's really no way to
know for sure. We'll never know one thousand percent how
many fans there are of this.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Side or that side. But thirty four thousand.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
And eight or ninety three throughout the state for Louisville,
I was happy to see that. And then Western Kentucky
sits third with six eight hundred and ninety seven. EKU
has just over twenty two hundred, and Murray State rounds
out the top five with twenty one hundred twenty one
hundred and ninety plates. So enrollment plays a huge part.

(03:40):
So UK student body is nearing thirty eight thousand, seven hundred,
whereas Louisville's is about twenty five thousand. Yeah, but a
lot of people who have those IDs or have those plates,
they're not enrolled in those schools at that time. I mean,
I guess if you're like a professor or I guess
if you're a student, you can, but it's usually people
who are just big fans or they went to school

(04:01):
there in their alums. But there are let's see the
other the military plates. So the Army veteran is the
leader when it comes to the military plates. At thirty
seven thousand and some change disabled veterans. At twenty six thousand,
you've got roughly eleven thousand Navy veteran, same thing very
close with our Air Force veteran about ten thousand, six

(04:23):
hundred and then just below that is the Marine veterans.
So the military plates contribute over six hundred and forty
two thousand dollars annually to the Veterans Trust Fund through
five dollars donations that are built into the renewal fee.
So not only do you if you're a veteran, are
you are you wearing that proudly on your vehicle as
you should, you're also helping donate, helping raise money for

(04:45):
the Veterans Trust Funds. So good stuff there. The standard
plate per year twenty one dollars for registration. I guess
it can vary slightly depending upon your county and the
vehicle type. But the specialty plates John an extra ten
to thirty five bucks depending on the design.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
How much for that classic plate. I'll be eligible for
that in a couple of years with my with my.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Own old man, I need to look into that. That
is true, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I think it's twenty five years man, it'll be twenty
five years old and twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
You have to do it right, Oh, I have to actually,
by the way, is it a requirement?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I don't know if it is.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I think it is, but like you should, it's I
mean it's And that will be one that's a visual.
Just seeing that car and knowing how old it actually
is is one of those things is gonna make me feel.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Really really old.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
It'll be a badge of honor.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, I'm gonna looking it up because we got that
needs to be just something we do on the show,
like the reveal of the old time classic license plate
on your buggy, on your Toyota Camri.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
It's a camera, right.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
It is a camera.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
So a historic vehicle plate is a one time fifty
nine dollars fee and the vehicle needs to be at
least twenty five years old. Go pencil me. In a
couple of years, we're getting there. There are one hundred
and six thousand of them in Kentucky. You could be
in that mix, John, looking forward to it when we
get there. Let's get up there of tracking weather, shall
we don't go anywhere? Keep it locked right here on
News Radio eight forty whas it is aight eighteen here

(06:07):
News Radio eight forty whas we're gonna talk to Rory
O'Neil coming up at eight thirty five. We will get
the latest on how AI is impacting the work your
I guess work culture, right, don't not just your your job,
maybe what it's replacing, what you're now utilizing with AI
to do your job, but how it's impacting your culture.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
We'll talk to Rory about that.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
And also he's got a breakdown of this survey that
will tell us which cities, which cities are the most
dangerous in America. And I'll go ahead and tell you
it doesn't look great for Louisville, but hey, room for improvement. Right,
So again, Roy's gonna join us, coming up here for
too long. But the NBA season is getting ready to
start tonight, and that has me excited as can be,

(06:52):
just because I'm an NBA fan. Until I remember oh yeah,
the product is not. I mean, I love everything about
the NBA. It's astae for me because the NBA is
something that I loved before I loved anything in sports
growing up. I watched the NBA before I watched anything.
And you know, now I don't think the product is

(07:13):
what it once was, but what I always have done
each time, you know, when we get to the start
of the season, I always find myself trying to just
convince myself and be delusional that oh, it's okay, I'll
watch the Chevy the NBA fan they show. Ever watch
a lot of games because I love basketball, and clearly
the NBA that's where the best basketball's played. But uh,
there's a lot, a lot that has just kind of

(07:34):
made it to where without even really any intent, I've
just completely tuned out the NBA. But one thing that
does consistently get me back in is gambling and wagering
on the NBA. So right now, with DraftKings, there's no
better time to get in if you haven't yet. So
all your favorite NBA players are back this season and
you can bet on them. With DraftKings, it's the place

(07:56):
to bet on the NBA stars this season. So you've
got a lot more market. It's open and right now,
Draftking Sports Book their number one when it comes to
live betting, and when it comes to all the different
options you have throughout a game, those changing numbers, that's
what makes it a lot of fun. When I talk
about gambling on sports, to me, it's just it enhances
the overall experience of watching sports. It adds a lot

(08:17):
more entertainment, makes it a lot of fun, and you
can also end up maybe making some money. So right now,
new customers, if you bet five bucks, you get three
months of.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
NBA League Pass. Check that out.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
What a deal, New customers, you bet five bucks, you
get three months of NBA League Pass. You can't you
can't beat that. Plus you can score three hundred dollars
if your bet wins. So it's paid in bonus bets.
Now the Draftking Sportsbook app and use code Whas. That's
code Whas. Bet five bucks and get three months of
league Pass plus three hundred dollars in bonus bet if
your bets wins. So in partnership with Draft Kings, the

(08:49):
Crown is yours gambling problem.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Go one under.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Gambler must be eighteen plus Kentucky only elgebitertuation to supply
bet must win to receive bonus bets within six seven days,
minimum mods required.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
NBA League Pass auto.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Renews until cam and sold additional terms at dk NNG
dot co slash Audio limited time offer. So again NBA
starting tonight, take advantage NBA League Pass free.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
I got it.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Who's been five bucks and you get three hundred dollars
in bonus bets if your bet wins. You'd be foolish
not to take advantage. All right, let's get to a
quick time out. We've got traffic, weather updates on the way.
Scott's back with another sports update, and again roy O'Neil
gonna join us around eight thirty five right here on
news Radio eight forty whas. Final segment for us here
at news Radio eight forty whas, I mean for me

(09:33):
Coffee and company. We'll hand it off to Tony and
Dwight coming up in just a few minutes. But it
is Tuesday, which means we're going back in tom a
little Toime Machine Tuesday. So this one is not the
exact day, but it's close enough because we didn't do
Time Machine Tuesday last week. But this is one of
those things that for my age range, like I would
make sense how I would not remember this or know

(09:53):
of this, But I'm sure it's going to make Tony
Venetti go back in time and remember. But it's also
something that you could make up and I would just assume.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
That it's true.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
But apparently this happened that in October of nineteen ninety three,
that's what, thirty two years ago, there was an historic Belknap.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Building bell Nap.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Oh, yeah, it's ben App the largest Ye. It was
demolished in a nationally televised.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
Event on MTV.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Yeah, yep.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
And do you remember who who pressed the detonation.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
Button, Sylvester Stalloan.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yes, yes, I was there. I brought Fast Live. Are
you serious?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Our guest live from there.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
They came in early the movie was coming out. They
were looking for a building somewhere. Yeah, they were looking
for a building somewhere to implode to sort of do
a premiere. They wanted to do a premiere in that town.
So Stallone and Wesley Snipes and all, I guess what's
the female character?

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Oh gosh.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
They all were in town for like four days and
they were going to this like you would run into
Stallone in these redneck bars.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
It was crazy. See what was happening? I love it.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Yeah, they were in caddies, remember caddies, Yes, off old chef,
Oh yeah yeah yeah, they were both in caddies.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
So we went down.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
We took the weasel van down. I sat on top
of the weasel van and I broadcast for two hours
in southern Indiana because that's where the view is. Bell
Knapp is where the Humana building right the new that
the office building. So so we sat and broadcast all
day and we counted it down.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Everyone counted it down. They blew that damn thing up.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yeah, it was no severer Bullock was the a non
story building. Wesley Snipes was he there too, because he
was apparently.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
You need to have you not seen Demolition Man. Oh
you need to watch that movie.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
That is an awesome movie.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
I love when this works out to where I'm going
back thirty two years and you remember everything about it.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Yeah yeah, yeah. I was a young broadcast at.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
But like that, having that something like that happening now
would be something I remember forever.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Yeah yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
I mean I think and it was those days, you know.
I took the weasel van home. I had a bar gig.
So I did the bar gig at Phoenix Hill Tavern.
I drove the van home and then and then drove
it and set up the broadcast. And that's the days
when you would push a button in a big stat
like the TVs where the we go up thirty yards
the satellite thing and I would have to hook it

(12:18):
all up and we broadcast live from there for two hours.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
It was great.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Well, and it's the only time that MTV has ever
been live in Louisville.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
I don't think that's true because the X Games were here.
When when the X Games were that was a huge
that's espl.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
MTV has not been live and they don't. They don't
go tomore like that. Yeah, that's demolition Man.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Yeah, we blew up Movies TV at ninety three was
that huge, huge hue longest but a bell Knap was
the largest like tool and parts distributor in the country,
in the country, so they went out of business and
human about the building and they blew up the side building.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
That was awesome.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
That's the newest low income housing the way. By the
way they put in they didn't just demolish the building.
They put a bunch of incendiaries in there so that
when it blew up, flames would come out of the side,
and you got stallone just sitting there.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
He pushed is just where I pushed the button. Perfect.
All right, we're out of here.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Tony Dwight coming your way. Next on there's Radio eight
forty w H A S.
