gift card. Thanks to our friends at Cincy Shirts, we
have what I believe is now just a normal busy show.
Every show is busy, every show is big. Nothing changes today.
Joe Danoman of Fox nineteen will join us. Well, we'll
talk Bengals, we'll talk some Reds and more with Joe Danoman,
(01:29):
our guy Rick Browing covering the Norse and the Muskies. Now,
why is this big? Well, Xavier playing for their tournament
Bubble Life tomorrow at Butler and it's hard to believe
Austin Tonight, Horizon League Championship starts. The March to March
Madness begins at Truest Arena for the NKU Norse this evening.
(01:55):
We'll talk to Rick Bryn about both of those. We
have a Wes Miller Press. It's gonna happen at one
point fifteen. We'll take some of that will air at
an hour number three. He'll talk about Senior Night, which
it's just it's not the same type of vibe on
Senior Night as it used to be. He's talking Senior Night,
he's talking Kansas State and maybe some NCAA tournament hopes
(02:16):
as well. We'll get to that at some point today.
As I mentioned your talkbacks. We'll look at what Tuesday's
college basketball slate looks like. Bubble Watch Dating and Action Tonight,
UK and Action Tonight. Just talked about MKU and Action tonight,
U See and Xavier both in Action tomorrow. I made
a list. I made a list of teams that I
think can win it all in college basketball. We'll talk
(02:41):
about that list. We'll talk about a Red's win last night.
But we know spring training wins and losses don't matter.
It's the good and the bad that come from each game. Austin,
I think I think we're at a point where we
can highlight some good. I also think there is some
bad to highlight, and there are questions about spring training
(03:01):
that we need to get to today. When can we
be worried about spring training? When can you get overly
excited about what's happening in spring training? And we'll talk
more about the Terry Francona effect. There are two games
today for the Reds Day game, night game, splitting the
squads up. We'll see how those lineups look and we'll
(03:23):
look a little bit more at the Reds rotation as
the day goes. We did not get to mock draft Monday, yesterday,
so we'll do some mock draft Tuesday. We'll talk about
defensive free agent fits, and we spent a large portion
of our three Austin yesterday talking about the T Higgins
decision from the Bengals to tag him over twenty four
(03:45):
hours before the deadline hit. We'll talk about Jamar Chase
and the Bengals reportedly being far away on their contract talks,
and we have some Mocho Sinco audio about T Higgins.
And I have a Duke Tobin question, because everyone made
this big deal at the combine about it sounds and
feels like a different Duke Tobin vibe. It sounds like
(04:07):
the way things are being handled from Duke Tobin sound
different than in years past. I have a question about
that as it relates to the news we heard yesterday,
the report from Diana Russini about Jamar Chase the T
Higgins tag. I want to to tie that back into
(04:27):
the Duke Tobin as mentioned, today is Tag Day across
the NFL Austin. I believe we're expecting a pretty quiet
day on Tag Day across the NFL.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yeah, it was expected that really the only two were
gonna be T Higgins and Trey Smith from the Kansas
City Chiefs, and then earlier this morning, it was announced
that the Cowboys planned to use the franchise tag on
their defensive tackle Osa Adiggy Zuwa. Okay, but they were
(04:58):
able to just come to a deal a few minutes ago,
a four year, eighty million dollar deal that includes fifty
eight million guaranteed and a twenty million dollars signing bonus
for a Diggy Zua. So looks like the Cowboys will
be able to avoid using their franchise tag unless they
were to do so. On on Michael Parsons, Okay, hich,
(05:23):
I don't even think he's eligible. I could be wrong
on that.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I don't believe so. But admittedly I not paid close
attention to the Cowboys. Yes, something to watch there last
night college Basketball World Wake. I thought as a bubble team.
And when you take on a bubble team and beat
him by thirty three, I don't know right now what
the flaw is in Duke. Duke wins last night ninety
three to sixty Houston does enough to beat Kansas sixty
(05:50):
five fifty nine. I've checked here, Austin. I don't see
yet if Bill self has put out another statement after
last night's lost. Okay, keep me posted. I'll keep you
posting on if we hear a Bill self statement about
another loss for Kansas, who is now nineteen and eleven
on the year ten and nine in the Big twelve.
Kansas has rapidly, rapidly fallen off the face of the earth.
(06:14):
FC Cincinnati and T Grace is tonight. What do you
know about T Grace? I don't know anything about teav
me either. I don't know much. But it's part of
the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Yeah, that's happening tonight. How about
day baseball today?
Speaker 4 (06:29):
They got to be a faceless opponent. You know, you
don't know anything about them, You don't know, you don't
care about their best player.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
You just got to beat them. Play yourself, yep, play yourself.
Take yourself off your schedule. You see baseball home opener
was set for tomorrow. It's moved up to today. They're
expecting some rain tomorrow, so I think it's gonna be
like sixties. They first pitch is three h five today.
You see Baseball's got a good roster. They are in
(06:56):
action at home. You see at the you see baseball
stadium for the first time today. I'm expecting a good
crowd for UC baseball this year. If you're a UC
football fan, you remember the name Bob Diaco. What a
great defense he put together on that two thousand and
nine Cincinnati Bearcat staff went onto Notre Dame, bounced around
(07:17):
a little bit. Bob Diaco, Austin has resurfaced. Okay, he
resurfaced on Bill Belichick's coaching staff. He's coaching the defensive
line for Bill Belichick. All right. Also on that staff,
Bill Belichick, Brian Belichick, Steve Belichick, Bob Diaco, Freddie Kitchens.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, Freddy's the offensive coordinator, isn't he Matt Lombardi.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
That's a big time staff. It's not bad that's being
put together.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Bob Diaco has a career coaching record of eleven and
twenty six.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, yep.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
But he did win the Broyls Award in twenty twelve.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah. Famously famously known in the two thousand and nine
Sugar Bowl for yelling at Jeff Quinn in the offensive
staff at halftime against Florida to run the ball because
it's making him look bad. Mmm. No, that's the Bob Diacol,
I know, but good to see him back on the sidelines.
Also wears extremely tight pants, is that right? Very very tight?
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Pam Win, you perhaps reach out to Bob, see if
I can get Bob on the cheff. We can talk
to Bob about what it's like to play with Bill Belichick. Yeah,
our coach with Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Yeah, we'll see if we can reach out. All right,
bad time, Austin. I was going to actually spend a
minute today on the NBA just because Shake Gildris Alexander
had another fifty point outing last night. That's Oklahoma City's
fiftieth win on the season. They are running away right
now in the West. They are eleven games clear of
(08:46):
the Lakers and the Nuggets in the West, and the
Cleveland Cavaliers. I think it was like twenty three to four.
They went down on the road at Boston the other
night over the weekend, came back and won. They're seven
and a half clear of the Boston Celtics. You know
who's probably not gonna make the playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks.
They traded away Luca, they got ad Ad got hurt
(09:08):
last night, Kyrie acl injury. Kyrie's out for the year.
So you know what the MAVs have decided to do
during all this, Austin, I asked their season ticket holders
to raise prices next year by eight percent. I can't
imagine you said this before the show. I can't imagine
what radio shows in Dallas sound like around the MAVs
(09:31):
and the Cowboys for that matter. It's got to be
a circus. Every single day you trade away, Luca Nico's
getting death threats. You asked season ticket holders to pay
eight point seven percent more on tickets next year on
the same day that Kyrie Irving has lost for the
year with an ACL injury AD not close to returning.
(09:54):
Things are not good for the Dallas Mavericks. You really
got a feel for the Mavericks in this hard time
right now. That's about all I know about the NBA.
I feel bad because I'm not as locked in as
I used to be in the NBA. But I've just
found it, and we've talked about this. I've founded at
times this year harder and harder to get in and
(10:15):
get excited about the NBA. And that's crazy because a
team four hours north year, the Cleveland cavalieve they have
the best record in basketball at fifty to ten, They're
killing it. Oklahoma City is a fun young team with
stockpiled draft picks for the future. They're fifty and eleven.
Outside of that, I just can't get in on a
nightly basis too to the NBA. I'd much rather watch
(10:37):
college basketball at this point. Speaking of college basketball tonight,
outside of the local teams that are in action that
we'll talk about. Auburn number one in the country, travels
to number twenty two, Texas A and m number twenty
three BYU travels to number ten Iowa State. New AP
rankings are out, no change at the top. Auburn one,
(11:00):
Duke two. Houston moves up to number three, Tennessee moves
up to four, Florida drops to five. Rick Patino Saint
John's Red Storm is up to six, Bama seven, Michigan
State eight, Texas Tech nine, and Iowa State at number ten.
That is your top ten. Clemson. Yes, Clemson has moved
(11:22):
up to number eleven in the standings as well, while Kentucky,
after their lost to Auburn over the weekend, drops to
nineteenth in the country. March madness is here. Every game
seemingly tonight will have some type of bubble implications. Joe
Lonardi if you follow along with bracketology, Joe Lonardi as
(11:44):
of this morning has Xavior listed as the second team
out of the tournament. Oklahoma is first team out. Xavier
is Joe Lenardi's second team out of the tournament. If
you do the math, he has you see as the
sixth team out of the tournament right now, Oklahoma, Xavier,
(12:09):
North Carolina, Texas SMU and then you see are on
the outside looking in. Maybe that creates an opportunity from
a bubble standpoint for you see in Xavier, you got
us to do a lot of bubble watching, which isn't
necessarily how you want to live in March, but it
is what it is right now. Austin. For reference, the
(12:31):
Ohio State Buckeyes are the last four.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
In relatively large one for the Buckeyes tonight against Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah, I would say that is one. Both of those
teams listed on the last four in line.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
I don't know that I'll see a second of it.
It starts at nine o'clock in Columbus. In Columbus, I
know why nine o'clock game in Columbus. Ohio State right
now is six and a half point favorite.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Yeah, you would feel like that's one of those games
when you talk about the bubble. If Ohio State wins,
it probably won't help them a ton. But if you
lose at home to a team that's right behind you
on the bubble, not a good thing for Ohio State
of six and a half point favorites. So that is
that's your latest bubble talk for UH for this afternoon. Bracketology,
(13:15):
if you will bubble talk with bubbles, is.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
There any more of a bigger sham than bracketology?
Speaker 3 (13:22):
I I find it harder and harder to believe because
there are so many different bracketology experts now That's what
I'm saying, and it solidly come up with different All.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
It is is just a way for people to you know,
put their opinions out there.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Yeah, I mean I thought, I thought Chad Brianda made
a good point yesterday and talking about the SEC. You
know there are there are bubble teams. But if the
if the committee views the SEC like bracketology experts view
the SEC, then you're probably not gonna get in. Yeah.
But if the committee looks and says, well can you
(14:00):
can you take a team like Arkansas who has won
six games in their conference. Is that an NCAA tournament team?
I mean Arkansas, for what it's worth, Austin Arkansas went
to one win in the conference South Carolina and lost
seventy two to fifty three. Arkansas still in the tournament,
and they were on the bubble going into the weekend.
(14:22):
I mean, that's a hard sell for me to understand
how how that and those two things can can work together.
That's just a harder sell. But at this point, you
do what you can for your resume. Uc He's got
two opportunities left. Dayton needs to win the A ten.
Xavier has two opportunities guaranteed left. We know what NKU
(14:44):
has to do in the Horizon League tournament, and we'll
talk about their chances with Rick Broing. But you gotta win,
and then you got to let the chips fall and
hope that the committee may view and see things differently
than what some of the bracketology experts have done over
the last couple weeks. We'll dive more into that as
it goes, but let's start with the Reds today. When
(15:06):
we get back at since he three to sixty, we'll
take your phone calls as well. Five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty thanks to our good friends at Skyline Chili Oegar.
We've talked about this a lot. He's got what you want, like,
who's the go to guy, gonna be.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
The interviews, his views and your calls.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Go to guy isn't the team's leading school Roeger.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 7 (15:30):
There goes a runner in the throw to second base
is not in time, and the Reds will come around
and score another run.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
The go ahead run comes in on the doublespiel.
Speaker 7 (15:39):
The Brewers do it all the way through to second base,
but boy Rodriguez, Hector Rodriguez, he was flying down the
line and he makes it into second base with a
key stolen base.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Okay, so good things have happened on the base pass
two for the Reds. I mean, not as bad as
some of the other things that are happening on the
base pass, but something to talk about as we go
at cinty three to sixty thanks to Skyline Chili on
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's get a couple
of calls in to start our afternoon here, and then
we'll dive into more of the Cincinnati Reds. What we've
(16:14):
been seeing from the Cincinnati Reds. Let's start with our
guy Maso calling in, what's up, Mayso?
Speaker 8 (16:19):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (16:20):
Boys?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
You have you doubled down Mayso on your mav season tickets.
How you feeling?
Speaker 9 (16:27):
Oh boy? Oh that that's uh, that's part of the
reason I called. I'm glad you touched on it. So
this is where I'm at in my state of mind. Okay,
with my sports, with my sports teams, they all suck
or they've all disappointed. Yeah, So, hypothetically speaking, if a
(16:49):
meteor came down and just wiped out every sports team
that you root for, like what sports team? Then would
you continue rooting for sports or would you on to
another team?
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Like?
Speaker 9 (17:01):
What what would you do in that scenario?
Speaker 10 (17:04):
Right now?
Speaker 9 (17:04):
I have the Bengals, they disappointed me. I have UC
football and basketball they have disappointed me. The Mavericks are
I have no clue.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
They're in shambles.
Speaker 9 (17:15):
I mean, that's that's a dumpster.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Fired out there.
Speaker 9 (17:20):
So I'm latching on trying to figure out if I
maybe it's a me problem. Maybe I need to look
in the mirror. But uh, but yeah, I don't know.
Maybe I should start rooting for some other teams or
just give up sports altogether. Like help me out here, boys,
I would never.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Give up sports all together. And and it's funny you
bring up a media or Austin. What was the latest
from NASA about the percentage chance that a meteor could
hit the Earth in the coming year.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
I don't know the latest, but we have to talk
to about like weeks ago, it was like three percent.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah, Austin, would you would you give up sports or
would you pick up a different team.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Elsewhere if a meteor took out all my teams? Yes,
I would probably have to pick up some other teams.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Do you have anyone in mind?
Speaker 9 (18:05):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (18:06):
From a football perspective, Yes, I've always been fond of
the Green Bay Packers. Okay, I guess I would lean
towards them. Baseball wise, I'd probably pick the Yankees. I've
always loved the Yankees. Wow, I've always liked the Yankees.
But I'd probably try to keep it as local as possible.
Maybe i'd pick like the Detroit Tigers and Columbus Blue
(18:30):
Jackets and the Crew and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
I was gonna go. I'd say the Lions because I
liked I'm more of a coaching guy at this point.
I would start rooting for Saint John's because I like
Rick Patino in the way you run this program. I
went to Saint John's and basketball, I would probably go
Detroit Lions in football, maybe the Carolina Panthers as well
college football. Always been a huge Michigan guy, so I'd go.
(18:53):
I'd go Michigan.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
I was gonna say, if a media took out Ohio State,
I definitely ain't rooting for UC right. The way the
UC treat me is fair ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
That's fair. Yeah, thanks for the positivity day and thinking
about I said, I'm.
Speaker 9 (19:08):
Sorry, Like I said, I'm usually a positive guy. I'm
sorry to bringing the show down.
Speaker 5 (19:13):
But maybe here's my answers.
Speaker 9 (19:16):
But here's my answers real fast. So uh NFL, I
think I would go with the Colts, you know, kind
of keeping it, kind of keeping it local, no real
animosity there.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
And then with college.
Speaker 9 (19:30):
Football and basketball, I think I'd go Louisville. Actually wow,
uh Like I said, hour and a half drive Fourth
Street Live is awesome. The environment, oh exactly. Andy is
a good town to go to as well, sure, and
a great town, yes, very great, and then n B
A like, I'll go with the Pacers, I guess. But
(19:52):
then my curveball with the MLB, I actually would probably
go to the Seattle Mariners. I like that, And it's
because back in the day, I was a juke Ken
Griffy junior guy, JUnit Edgar Martinez there yet, Jay Buniter. Yeah,
that team was awesome. Okay, so I think I'd go
(20:14):
with Themericers. Okay, MLB.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
But listen, all right, boy Mason, one day at a time,
man find the positives.
Speaker 9 (20:20):
All right, see you guys.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Thanks? Interesting, Thanks. Mace sounds already like a broken man
in March has just started. Really, you don't worry about
your friends this time of the year, Johnny, what's going on?
Speaker 11 (20:33):
It's twelve twenty five in the afternoon.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Is Mazo not had a drink yet? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:38):
I don't.
Speaker 12 (20:38):
I just don't.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
I don't know about his mental right now, Johnny.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
I think that's his problem.
Speaker 11 (20:44):
He sounds like a sober man.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
You can't be.
Speaker 11 (20:47):
You cannot be a Cincinnati sports fan and also sober
for a whole three hundred and sixty five years days.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
I mean, even Auten, you don't break that much. Johnson
you can't go.
Speaker 11 (20:57):
A whole day without having a whole year without having
something right.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Well, day in a year is different, Yeah, yeah, a
little bit different. For Austin, it's probably a year, Maso
more day.
Speaker 13 (21:05):
Yeah, Okay, Well, I think Mason's given up and I'd
be happy to meet him at Aggie's on Saint Patrick's
Day and uh, maybe just change his perspective.
Speaker 11 (21:17):
That being said, I have a question that I want
you to ask Joe Danaman for me. Okay, I don't mind,
and if you do.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
You know that's not a question.
Speaker 14 (21:25):
FI.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
Do you remember when the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 12 (21:27):
Last year pretty much.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Cut half their roster?
Speaker 11 (21:31):
Yeah, and everyone everyone predicted fallout. Everyone predicted, Oh, the
Buffalo Bills are doing a short, you know, rebuild, so
they would be an off the year for them.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
The goals next year. That didn't happen, did they. They
were in the Ancy Championship Game and not us.
Speaker 12 (21:47):
So I'm actually.
Speaker 11 (21:49):
Pretty confident that the strategy of the Bengals are taking.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Which is, let's cut all. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (21:54):
I know there are Super Bowl defense from three years ago,
they're not anymore.
Speaker 15 (21:58):
Let's cut them, get.
Speaker 11 (21:59):
Young, get upside, get a guy like Al Golden from
the college ranks to shake him up, and I think
we'll be just fine as long as you keep the
offensive pieces in place. I want to know if that's
your opinion, if that's how Joe thinks the front office
is handling the situation, and also if it's a good strategy,
you know, you know, will they are a different team?
Speaker 3 (22:20):
You know? I like that. I think, uh, I think
it's an interesting approach, and I think with the decisions
that have or haven't been made, you might be able
to draw some comparisons as well, Johnny, thank you for
that absolutely.
Speaker 9 (22:33):
And last thing is, I know you want to talk
about the Reds.
Speaker 11 (22:36):
You know me, I'm a stubborn Reds fan. What's the
reason I should be going to the ballpark this year?
Speaker 5 (22:41):
I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Okay, what It's a great ballpark, great ballpark, the atmosphere,
baseball is fun. I still think there is good upside
with these young players against Ellie Matt McClain is back.
They have a young, dynamic pitching staff, I think, and
I hope that the way they play the game will
(23:03):
come across a little bit differently under Terry Francona. I
think I think those are good reasons to go down
to the ballpark and see what this team can do.
We'll take one more call. We'll dive into the Cincinnati
Reds after the break. What's up, Mike, Hey?
Speaker 14 (23:17):
Pose is going for you to find gentlemen today?
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Not too bad?
Speaker 14 (23:22):
Good deal?
Speaker 9 (23:23):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (23:25):
Is the SEC gonna get in eleven or twelve teams
in the madness? I'm starting to get geared up.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Bracketology right now has them getting twelve teams in. I
just I don't know how much I can buy in
right now because of what they've done recently to Arkansas
being a tournament team. Right now, Arkansas would be the
last SEC team in Oklahoma would be the first out.
Arkansas just went to a one win SEC team, South
(23:50):
Carolina and got beat by twenty. I don't know how
you can keep them on the bubble or in the
tournament because I think so much of this is, yes,
the body of work, but I also think, what have
you done lately? And Arkansas to me is turning in
the wrong direction.
Speaker 14 (24:04):
And if they go on, if they do get in,
then something stinks because they're going on call Perry's name,
and that's not fair to everybody else and all three
of us. I know, don't like that idea. That's just
not a good idea. Going on to coach's name. Correct, No,
your numbers don't justify it. I think pat asked a
(24:26):
question on his show yesterday about He asked Taren if
Rick Patino was the best coach of his lifetime college coach.
Taren paused and said, yeah, I guess I'd have to
say so. I'd like to elaborate on that for a minute.
We know John Wooden, nobody's ever going to touch that record.
That's impossible. Platino, now what two different championships with two
(24:50):
different teams in the same state. I think he just
broke a record with Saint John's by winning the league
for having one more conference champion ships regular season than
any other coach. I forget how many leagues it is.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
I believe it's five different teams. Now he's taken to
the NCAA Tournament or won the I'm sorry one that
won their individual league.
Speaker 14 (25:12):
Because Tony and Austin, he he just flat out out
coaches guys and out motivates guys. And it's very simple.
You look at him on the sidelines, you talk about
intense for a seventy some year old man. Yep, it's incredible,
and he must be a good communicator in the old
fashion sense like Nick's trying to do. By the way,
mixed squad looked good against Northwestern.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Yes they're playing better.
Speaker 14 (25:35):
Dylan Andrews is coming on bro strong as a good
point guard. And the big guy Marrow with the seven
point seven span is he's a coordinated kid anyway, but
he's putting on weight and he's getting better every time
I see him. Yes, we'll see. But they still don't
shoot the ball well enough to go too far. I
don't think one put you on baseball. I think Arizona's
got the best starting rotation and now and maybe in
(25:58):
the National League. They with the addition of Bran of
Corbyn Burns and these guys they already had with Fott
and Gallon, and these couple of guys that were on
the injured list last year that are coming back, Zona
is loaded with pitching. And so watch out Dodgers or
everybody watch out.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Yeah, Zach Gallen, Merrill Kelly. Obviously, what Corbyn Burns is
that the only problem for the Arizona Diamondbacks is the Dodgers.
The Padres and the Giants all in that NL West
as well. It's almost the survival of the fittest because
you beat up on each other so much that it
could hurt you a little bit for that wild card
spot as well.
Speaker 14 (26:37):
Yeah it could, it could with The fans of those
teams are really lucky because they're gonna see a lot
of quality baseball correct up and down the coast the
uh so, I guess really, typically the preseason best division
has been the American League East for a long time
pretty much, you know, in general, But it looks like
not this year.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Yeah, I don't know. To me, We're going to the
conversation about spring training too, because how much can you
take away from spring training? How much can you overreact
from spring training? How much from spring training will allow
you to forecast what these teams are actually gonna look
like when opening Day comes in just a couple of weeks.
I think it's all fascinating.
Speaker 14 (27:15):
I do too. Hey, I get another quickie about the
program about to talk back guys? Yeah, we does Mason?
I get a kick out of me. So I don't
know what it is about the guy, but I just
get a kick out of him. So does he live locally.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Yeah, he's he's a Scharonville guy.
Speaker 14 (27:32):
Okay, cool, So he's in your hood.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Yeah, he's in my neighbor he's around the neighborhood.
Speaker 14 (27:37):
And who's the other guy that used to call a lot?
But I hardly hear him. Remember, he can like throw
his voice and sound real feminine. And I can't believe.
I can't think of his name. And he has invited
you guys over to his house. He lives with his mom.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
Oh, John Michael, John Michael.
Speaker 14 (27:56):
Yeah, Michael, he's plentier than hell.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
Yeah, it's always good to hear from everybody. I think
him and Mark got a place together. Yeah, we haven't
heard from Mark and alone to each other.
Speaker 14 (28:05):
So well, that's interesting. See, I love this little it's
talk about gossip.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Thank you, Martin, Mike, thank you, appreciate you. It is unique.
Maybe Mark's just diving into this lineup, really getting his
facts straight. He's spending time with Terry Francone, I would
think in the spring, making sure he's got everything set
for what's coming to baseball here. He figured out that.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Listen, I don't have anything to complain about because they
fired David Bell and hire a hall of Fame manager.
So yep, I'm just gonna go do something else. Off
spot looks to be pretty secure. There's not a lot
of back and forth there. There are questions, though, that
we have with the Cincinnati Reds. Let's dive into those
when we get back. Since he three to sixty thanks
to Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 16 (28:51):
Which players will come, Which players will go? This is
a look at the free agent frenzy, presented by Stone
Statements Bringing your Dream Kitchen to Life. Also brought to
you by Richter and Phillips Jewelers, Plumb Tight Plumbing, heating,
cooling and Drapes, and Worlds hitching Post.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
No, here's Mouegger.
Speaker 17 (29:11):
No area of the Bengals defense was immune to struggle
last season, but maybe the most interesting position this year
heading into free agency is cornerback. The Bengals have a
lot of younger players who are early round draft choices
at corner but the play at the position was shaky
last season. Do the Bengals run it back with the
same guys hoping for better results. Do they hit free
agency to find depth pieces and guys who can compete
(29:33):
for larger roles, or do they sign a premier corner
and let the chips fall where they may. With the
players who return, improved corner play is a must. The
question is can the Bengals get it without using free
agency or do they look outside for upgrades.
Speaker 16 (29:47):
For more on the free agent frenzy, keep it here
on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the Bengals.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Hey, welcome back Cincy three to sixty. Here ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. We're a service of our good friends.
That's Skyline Chili. Anytime you're feeling good and hungry, it
is Skyline time. Thanks for joining us, Thanks for hanging out,
Thanks for your phone calls. Leave us a talk back.
Looking forward to getting to all of those here in
hour number two today, a little bit of a recap
(30:23):
on what's going on with the Cincinnati Reds. They won
last night, and I know we're not big on results
in spring training. It's more about the individual performances, and
I think there are good and bad to take away Yesterday.
Nickelodolo struggled early on in the game. He went three innings,
three hits, three runs, and a walk. He did give
(30:44):
up two home runs, back to back home runs that
he gave up in the first inning. He did rebound well,
but it was a shaky start for Nick Clodolo. I
thought Brent Souter pitched well yesterday. Sam Mal had a
good inn of work yesterday for the Cincinnati Reds. But
it kind of just goes into that conversation Austin and
(31:06):
I think we can have this with the lineup and
the pitching staff as well. And you brought this up
when you got in today. At what point is it
okay to be concerned or to react a certain way
with spring training baseball? Because the answer we often get, well,
it's just spring training. They're working on stuff. Okay, that's great,
(31:26):
and you certainly can see that in instances. Ellie daily
Cruz walked two more times yesterday. Ellie has shown multiple
times and springs. You have multiple games with multiple walks
already in spring training. We've talked about his power, we've
talked about some of Matt McClain's production. TJ. Friedel had
two more hits yesterday. Austin Hayes is hitting over three
(31:47):
hundred in the spring. There are good things to take away.
There are questionable things that you want to worry about.
And then there's this Austin. The team got picked off
four times yesterday base running. It was one of the
biggest problems of this team last year and Terry Francona
was supposed to fix that, and they have had trouble
(32:07):
throughout the early part of spring training. They're nine games in,
but they've struggled on the base pass. Getting picked off
four times is not an ideal game for spring training
or regular season. So how are you viewing at Austin?
How are you looking at the good, the bad, some
of the ugly and tempering your reactions because it is
(32:31):
still nine games into spring training.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
That's what I'm trying to figure out. Like, if anybody
knows the answer to that, let me know, because I
hate what I've seen from the base pass. There's no
excuse to get picked off four times. I don't care
if you're in a spring training game or not.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
Well, one thing I cannot stand about baseball is how
they act like, oh, spring training is just to work
on stuff. I want to work on playing the game
of baseball the way I'm about to go play it.
For one hundred and sixty two games, I want to
do of the things in the game in the spring
that I'm going to do in the next one hundred
and sixty two when the season ends or when the
season starts at the end of this month. It blows
(33:10):
my mind pictures. Okay, I can make sense of that
a little bit more. It used to drive me nuts
how Vado would would approach his at bats in spring training.
And yes, one of the greatest hitters of all time,
notoriously slow starter. He was terrible early in the season
over and over again in his career. But for so
much of Aado it was it's just who he is.
He'll get it right. Yeah, well that's cool, and ended
(33:32):
up the end of the day it was great for him.
But how often did terrible starts for this team derail seasons?
Yea happened a lot, and I just it doesn't feel
like it matches what I'm hearing from Terry Francona. He
was talking to Jim Day last night. He's like, our
mentality is that we would show up to the ballpark
(33:52):
every day and kick somebody's ass. Okay, I was told
about the accountability of Terry Francona. Now we're not gonna
see it every day in spring training, and god knows,
it feels like barely anybody covers the team anymore on
an actual, like day by day basis. But like, it
just that doesn't seem to be adding up to me.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
And it's like.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Anytime you like express doubt or criticism, people say, oh,
it's just spring training, all right, that's cool. Opening Day
is three weeks from Thursday. You gotta figure it out.
There's a handful of off days in between there as well,
and you're traveling back to Cincinnati, so you don't have
that many games left to figure it out. And I
am seeing similar issues to what I saw a year
(34:34):
ago on the base paths. Yeah, and everybody wants to
talk about we're gonna flip around the one run games,
all right? Are they gonna do that by getting picked
off four times? Are you gonna to rely on delayed
double steals late in games to win? It's just that's
what I'm trying to figure out, is like, how am I?
How am I supposed to view spring training? Because nobody
(34:55):
seems to know. It's just it's become bothersome to me.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
They are nine games into a thirty game spring training slate,
as you mentioned things start to temper down a little bit,
starters don't play as much, you start to get the
work in now here. Here's and this is why I
go back and forth on your point there, because we
don't really know what if yesterday, from a leadoff standpoint,
they were trying new stuff. Sure, but you're picked off
(35:21):
first base three times? Yeah, that hot stealing again, Like
that shouldn't happen in little league baseball. You get picked
off once. Hey, I was trying something extending my lead,
seeming what I could get away with. And if that's
the case, and that's what's being taught, wouldn't it be
more comforting from a Terry Francona to report. And you
(35:42):
said you got to have the coverage of the team
as well. But if I was a manager and my
team got picked off four times after the game, I
would probably say, Hey, we're working on some stuff on
the base pass. Maybe. But to your point, we've seen
guys thrown out on the base pass. We've seen guy
picked off of It's the same problems that ate away
(36:04):
this team last year in those one run games. I've
just those fifty to fifty games where it can go
either way and you look back and say, well, they
gave away a run because Vane. They gave away two
runs because they're throwing the ball around the infield. They
got picked off with runners in scoring position. That haunted
this team last year, and Terry Francona when he came in,
(36:27):
all we heard was, well that stuff's gone. When is
it gone? We're a thtart of the way through spring
training and it's still haunting this team. Right.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
That's my concern is like, okay, is there going to
be anything that feels like progress here? And I don't
expect Terry Francona to come out every day and say
this is what we're working on today. I don't necessarily
expect that, but it's like, all right, you know, I'm
taking a mental note of this. If we go through
(36:55):
all spring training and this still is an issue, and
why should I expect every thing to change, because I'm
told everything's going to change. And you know, they brought
up a good point yesterday one of our callers. I
forget who it was about. You know, you still have
the same people at first base and third base coaching.
And last night there was a play where again, to me,
(37:16):
this is a base running error. Ellie de la Cruz
does not get his head up quick enough to see Jr.
House putting the stop sign on him right, and then
Ellie slams on the brakes nearly rolls his ankle.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
What happens if Ellie sprains his ankle? Last? That sort
of stuff sloppy.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
It's sloppy, and it leads to players getting hurt, or
you create bad habits, or whatever it might be. I
just hope that there's conversation happening in Goodyear this morning
and ahead of their game tonight, to say, Okay, let's
clean this stuff up, because that's not going to be
part of our identity this year.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
One third of the way in now, we should start
to see a change. We'll get more on the Reds
battles today and tonight we'll dive into that. When we
get back. Let's switch gears real quick to a Bengals conversation.
Let's piggyback on what we talked about yesterday with Ti
Higgins Jamar Chase. I want to pose it as a
Duke Tobin question to finish out the hour, and then
we'll hit on both of these things and more with
(38:10):
Joe Danaman at one o'clock. I'll still ahead since three
sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station thanks to
Skyline Chile, uc K.

We got Joe Daniman joining us in just a few minutes.
We'll talk Reds and Bengals. We have a trade in
(39:51):
the NFL here Austin. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
This is one of those that make you say, why
didn't the Bengals do? I love these the Chicago Bears
have traded a sixth round pick, a sixth round pick
to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for guard Jonah Jackson.
The Pro Bowl guard Jonah Jackson, former Ohio State Buckeye.
(40:14):
Jonah Jackson has two years left on his deal at
fourteen million a year. Is his His contract at the
moment was a sixty seven point five PFF grade. Last year,
played center and played guard and played two hundred and
sixty six snaps offensively, did have a bit of an injury,
(40:36):
but under team control for the next two years. A
sixth round pick in exchange for Jonah Jackson, the guard
from the Rams. I agree, that's one of those that
feels like could be a round no brainer. Yeah, an
absolute no brainer. So that sort of stuff. Chicago improves
their offensive line. They of course have I believe Tevin
Jenkins heading to free agency, they're not going to be
(40:56):
bringing him back. He's one of the big names that
people have linked to the Bengals. That trade cannot become
official until the new league year begins on March twelfth
at four pm, but teams have agreed to terms on
that trade.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
There it is one question and we'll double this up
with with Joe Danaman Austin. Are you in agreement that
what we heard from Duke Tobin at the combine sounded
like a completely different Duke Tobin. Yes, we thought, just
to the point, very open about stuff. Talked about the struggles,
(41:31):
what this team needs to do, multiple quotes about wanting
t Higgins on a long term deal, multiple quotes about
they're close with Jamar. Pay pay him what he's worth.
He's going to be the highest paid non quarterback in
the NFL. We heard those things. Yeah, And then yesterday,
in the span of twenty minutes, we talked about Diana
(41:51):
Russini's conversation about Jamar Chase in the Bengals, that a
offer was given to Jamar Chase. The two sides were
made far apart. We talked about t Higgins over twenty
four hours ahead of the tag deadline. They slapped the
tag on t Higgins. That would tell me the sides
weren't close together, and ultimately Duke Tobin becomes the meat shield.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
Here, I'll tell you what came to mind. You know,
yesterday as I was trying to continue thinking about it.
Do you remember the scene from Hard Knocks in the
off season with the Giants. Before Joe Shane goes to
speak to the media at the combine, He's sitting there
with their PR guy and going over all the talking points,
all the things they're going to cover, the way they're
(42:37):
going to be asked, how he's going to respond to it,
and so on, And I wonder if, understanding the importance
of the off season itself, there was a push, a directive,
a focus on coming out and sounding strong and prepared
(42:59):
and ready from Duke Tobin and he sounded like that, Yeah,
I agree, and I so part of me, I guess
what I'm trying to say is I wonder how much
that was, Hey, this is pr and how much that
is this is actually our plan and our thought.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
But if he knew they weren't close, then you just
sound bad by saying it. That's the other thing.
Speaker 4 (43:21):
The flip side of it is all the stuff they do,
all it does is put more pressure on themselves, right,
Like all the stuff they say puts more pressure on themselves.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Yeah, yesterday, it yesterday to me was more about a
damning indictment on the Bengals because we've talked about the
urgency in which these deals need to get done and
right now, if the sides aren't close, I have a
(43:50):
hard time buying into urgency. And so again Chad mentioned
this yesterday. I see better than I hear. Man. I
loved I heard at the combine. I loved it from
Duke Tobin, from Zach Taylor. I loved the way they
openly talked about this. But what I saw yesterday was
kind of the same old, same old that I've been seeing.
(44:13):
That's a worry to me. That to me, becomes a
concerning point for this team going forward. Let's see if
Joe Daneman echoes those same sentiments. We'll talk Reds, Bengals
and more with Joe Daneman on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Thank you to our friends at Skyline.
Speaker 1 (44:32):
Chile Ky Cincinnati.

You know AOZ three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored

Speaker 1 (44:52):
Cincy shirts all since e all day.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
You guard right, it is and this is our two
of Cincy three sixty thanks to Cincy shirts, ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station Austin. Let me tell you one
thing real quick. We know we get our guy, Joe
Danman each and every Tuesday on this show, Fox nineteen's
finest sportscast of the year. You could list the accolades.
But I watch something, and normally when I watch something
(45:20):
on a national level, I try to tie it in locally.
I watch Saturday Night John Cena, one of the most
beloved ww wrestlers of all time. He turned heel and
I'm like, what, even in my world does that equate to?
And I feel like I landed on That would be
the equivalent of Joe Danaman turning heel. Just a loved guy,
(45:41):
liked by so many, John Cena goes out of his
way to help others, Joe Danaman does the same and
then boom, all of a sudden, You're a heel. Joe
Danoman would be the Cincy three sixty equivalent of John
Cena turning heel and he's joining us right now, Joe,
do you have an announcement to make? Are you? Are
you on the straight narrow? Still you lead into the
dark side.
Speaker 10 (46:03):
No announcement to make, but I do have a question
I wanted to ask you that has to do with
that moment. So I'm glad you brought it up.
Speaker 15 (46:10):
Okay, So I have a lot of coworkers who were
lined up to watch Elimination Chamber. I had a charity
event I had to go to on Saturday, and I
made it pretty well known to my friends at work
that I would be watching on tape delay. At what
point I think this is an important question to ask
a sports audience because this affects sports fans, probably the moment.
(46:34):
How much time has to elapse from a big moment
happening before you feel like you can text somebody and
maybe spoil it. And maybe it's not always sports, maybe
it's a show, a big premiere, or a movie. I
kind of feel like it has to be, especially if.
Speaker 14 (46:54):
You know your friend or roleworker.
Speaker 15 (46:57):
It's not watching that you can't And I got spoiled
on Saturday, and man, it ruined my night.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
It was tough.
Speaker 3 (47:04):
I have I'd say a twelve hour buffer zone. Twelve hours.
Twelve hours gives you enough to get caught up on everything.
It's not ridiculous like a full day but if others
know you're doing something and then watching something and it's
funny you're at a charity event, because that's what John
cen is known for. So the correlations just continue here.
But no, you've got to respect the game.
Speaker 19 (47:25):
Now.
Speaker 3 (47:25):
I will say social media in today's world does make
it harder to hide things. But I think that's I
think that shows poorly on your coworkers that they would spoil.
Speaker 5 (47:34):
That for you.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (47:36):
Yeah, they're early twenties, so we're gonna get him some
grace here. It was funny though, because one of them
not only spoiled it, they sent a picture of Cody
Roads walking off with his face bloodied. So I spent
the entire time of Cody Rhoads in the ring with
the rock, waiting for him to put his hand into
his pocket for his fake blood.
Speaker 10 (47:56):
There it is.
Speaker 15 (47:56):
I would like the Leo DiCaprio snapping his fingers in
twenty TV.
Speaker 10 (48:00):
What all get the flood Man?
Speaker 3 (48:03):
What a moment. I have two things I want to
really dive into. One with the Bengals, one with the
Cincinnati Reds. Let's start with the Bengals because you know,
to quote Marvin Lewis, Joe We've talked about this. I
see better than I hear, and Austin and I spent
time on this show talking about how well Duke Tobin
came across at the combine, very very upfront last year,
(48:26):
was not good enough. We want the long term deal
with Tea, We're close with Jamar, and then Diana Russini
talks about, well, there was an offer on the table,
and Jamar and the Bengals are still a ways apart,
and then with over twenty four hours remaining, the Bengals
slap the tag on t Higgins. Are we looking too
much into this or does it feel like these two
sides being a little bit further away is a little
(48:49):
bit of an issue right now, at this point in
the offseason.
Speaker 15 (48:52):
I think we all need to take just a bit
of a breath on this one. This is only one
week ago where Duke Tobin made the statements, and yeah,
Cincinnati Bengals fans were very happy with the tone and
the message he put out there. So I don't know
one week later that we really can change our opinion
on where they are. And I know reports come out
(49:13):
and certainly now there's a time stamp of the tag
happening with T.
Speaker 10 (49:17):
Higgins.
Speaker 15 (49:18):
But I'm of the belief and I will stand by
this right now that I still believe that Jamar Chase
deal will happen, and I still believe the T Higgins
long term.
Speaker 10 (49:27):
Deal with Cincinnati will happen.
Speaker 15 (49:28):
That hasn't changed for me one week later. That hasn't
changed one day after T Higgins got the tag to
be the franchise tag at second straight year. So while
I understand the anxiety and the nerves from Cincinnati Bengals fans,
this has only been one week since Duke Tobin talked
at the NFL Combined, I truly do believe those two
(49:51):
deals will happen. This stuff takes time, Negotiations can get messy, understand,
I get it.
Speaker 10 (49:58):
These negotiations could have been.
Speaker 15 (50:00):
Taken care of, not only earlier, a full calendar year earlier,
or in the case maybe two years ago, and the
prices they would have gotten those players that would have
been more team friendly, and that is the backfire of
what happened to the Bengals here.
Speaker 10 (50:13):
But one week after.
Speaker 15 (50:15):
Duke Tobin spoke at the NFL Combine, I don't feel
any different than I do about the Bengals and their
pursuit of getting these deals done.
Speaker 10 (50:22):
I still think they get them done.
Speaker 15 (50:24):
I think everybody in the end when it comes to
T Higgins, Jamar Chase and the Bengals will be happy
with what happens.
Speaker 10 (50:31):
And maybe you can bookmark this and come back in
five months and say, Joe, you were wrong.
Speaker 15 (50:35):
And I do think there's a point here to be
made about T Higgins and the second franchise tag and
at what point does he just tilt and get so
fed up at the organization that they're.
Speaker 10 (50:46):
Not invest in him in long term?
Speaker 15 (50:48):
And I think that's the good talking point here as
we get further into this process. But if you're asking me,
should fans be nervous, should they have anxiety? I can't
tell people how to feel about this, but I still
do believe both will get done. Look at the conversation
that we had last week, and look where it is
right now, and what has changed since we've heard from
(51:08):
Duke Duke Tobin and we've seen the franchise tag put
on T Higgins. But I go back to the announcements
Bangles made yesterday. They said the intent of continuing to
work toward a long term deal for T Higgins in Cincinnati,
and I still take them at face value on what
they're trying to do.
Speaker 4 (51:26):
But all the goodwill had felt like they had built
up when Duke talked a week ago, seven hours later
seemed to be destroyed when T Higgins tweeted that cap emoji,
essentially saying that that was BS. That was the translation
that I think a lot of people took it. So
it makes me wonder, is Higgins already turning that he's
(51:48):
already fed up with this to this point where he's upset,
turning heel, there you go, let's just bring it all back.
Speaker 15 (51:54):
Yeah, he's the John Cena And I do think that's
the one thing to worry about here Austin, when talking
about T Higgins, is that even though he's been frustrated
and maybe hasn't been taken care of the way he
expects or fans too expect for him, that's he's always
been the good teammates, a good soldier who shows up
on time, who is there for things that the Bengals
(52:17):
have to get done in the offseason. He is there
at training camp even though there's all these questions swirling
around him. And then you go back to last year
and what happened with Jamar Chase and Jamar Chase not
not participating in training camp and eventually that coming to
a head week one, and this team did not look
ready to play in Week one because of and you know,
you can pick a myriad of reasons. Certainly Jamar Chase
(52:40):
not practicing for a lot of training camp had to
be a part of that. Just did not look like
himself early in the season. And you wonder, and I know,
like the big thing here in the offseason was just
have a quiet offseason. That's impossible, is what the Bengals
have going on right now with Jamar Chase, T Higgins
and Trey Henderson. Be a simple, no noise offseason. It's
(53:03):
going to be noisy. It might be messy. And you
do wonder now if t Higgins, if this continues on
through the offseason workouts and into OTAs and maybe even
to July fifteenth in the deadline where he doesn't get
it and then he has to play on the second
year of a tag.
Speaker 10 (53:19):
You wonder what that's going.
Speaker 14 (53:20):
To look like at training camp.
Speaker 10 (53:22):
Could it look like Jamar Chase.
Speaker 15 (53:24):
Could it be a guy who's just not practicing and
he'll show off Week one ready to play, kind of
like Jesse Bates did, And you have to think about
these things and how they domino affect this team that's
trying to get off to a good start this year.
So to me, that's the biggest talking point right now. Again,
I'll stand on it book market, and I think the
Bengals will get Jamar Chase done and will get t
(53:45):
Higgins done. But if it doesn't happen with t, at
what point does Te tilt because he hasn't tilted yet,
and you wonder if that might happen the longer this
thing goes.
Speaker 4 (53:55):
There is also a belief by some that the tone
and dictation of one Duke Tobin at the case Combine
was putting pressure on his bosses to get the deal done.
What do you make of that mentality?
Speaker 15 (54:07):
I like that the way the Bangles do business, I
wouldn't when I say do business when was it being
a top down organization and not a lot of people
speak for the front office.
Speaker 10 (54:18):
I don't think that would happen.
Speaker 14 (54:20):
I like the idea.
Speaker 15 (54:23):
I think it's a fun theory in a good talking
point for people like to talk about. But just knowing
Duke Tobin, the relationship within the front office. That would
be out of character for him to do that. And Listen,
could be wrong, but I do think that would be
out of character for that to be the case.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
Let me ask one more than I want to switch
gears to the Cincinnati Reds. You mentioned you still are
confident that this gets done. We've talked a little bit
about the urgency that's needed this offseason because of the
other holes on the roster, the decision with Trey Hendrickson,
other free agents that this team might be able to
bring in which path they choose in the draft. So
(55:02):
let me ask you, if you're good with it now,
when would it get to a point in the timeline
of the off season where you start to worry that
it could become more of a problem as it pertains
to Jamar Chase and t Higgins. Because the thought I
had was get this done as soon as possible so
you can then know what you have going forward. At
(55:22):
what point would it become a little bit of an
issue for you?
Speaker 15 (55:26):
Yeah, But I think in their mind, Tony, I think
they probably are allocating what they have for this. I
think we're in agreement here. Okay, let's just put this
out there, we both agree that that Jamar Chase is
going to get his deal done with the Bengals, correct, sure, Okay,
and we think that number is.
Speaker 10 (55:42):
Going to be.
Speaker 15 (55:44):
Around forty mili. Let's talk it off at forty million
a year. Okay, So I think if we're both in
agreement with that, I think the Bengals then understand that
that's allocated. That's set aside for Jamar. Okay, if t
Higgins signed a long term deal, he's going to get
close to what twenty eight to thirty million dollars a
year somewhere in there.
Speaker 10 (56:04):
Okay, that that's pretty close.
Speaker 15 (56:05):
To the twenty six point two he would get on
the franchise tag. So again, that's allocated in their mind.
So it's a good talking point to think about. Okay,
have to get this done before a free agency, have
to have this done before the draft, and we know
what we're going to do, and we know what we're
going to attack, and certainly there is a domino effect
if t Higgins is a long term deal before the
(56:27):
draft or during free agency that you can plan on. Okay,
we have Tea for one more year. We better find
Tea for placement because we tried that last year and
so far that hasn't worked with your main Burton, So yeah,
I think to your point that that matters.
Speaker 10 (56:40):
But I do think the.
Speaker 15 (56:41):
Bengals probably and I'm not going to talk about a
pie here, but perhaps slices of a pie already set
aside for T Higgins and Jamar Chase and whatever their
plans are with Trey Henderson as.
Speaker 10 (56:53):
Well, and then they can go about spending the other.
Speaker 15 (56:56):
So yes, the urgency matters, I think for everybody's own
saneness here right with looking at this in the end,
the hard way of thinking about, Okay, we have to
do this one way, where we have to have all
this done before we go and attack other things.
Speaker 10 (57:13):
I don't think you have to do that.
Speaker 15 (57:14):
I think you can do to two at the same time,
even if the contracts aren't done for t Higgins and
Jamar Chase, because I think you can allocate and have
that in your mind what your plan is, and then
attack other parts of the team going forward.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
One of the talking points we've had about the Cincinnati
Reds is how to temper spring training thoughts good or bad,
with understanding that it's spring training and when can something
become something you're excited about, or when can something becomes
something you're worried about. They're nine games through thirty spring
training games, so I know that they have time left.
(57:49):
And it's one thing. Ellie's had multiple games now where
he's walked twice. You could take that and say, Okay,
that is good going forward. Nick Ldolo bounces back after
a rough first inning. But we've talked to couple times
through nine games of spring training about the base running.
They were picked off four times yesterday. When does something
like that become a little bit of a worry for you?
(58:10):
Because that was so much of what caused this team
problems last year. Airs on the bass pass that gave
outs away, or giving another team extra outs with airs
that hurt this team. And Terry Francona came in and
you're like, Okay, they're going to clean all of that up.
We've seen that still through nine games. When would that
become a little bit of an issue for you? Knowing
(58:31):
that it's still just spring training.
Speaker 15 (58:33):
So I talked to Barry Larkin about this out at
Red Spring Training and I asked him what the difference
he thinks will be in the Terry Francona effect, and
he went back to nineteen ninety with Lou Penela and
he said, this was a red team that was on
the Cups in eighty six, eighty seven, eighty eight, and
then eighty nine. They fell on their face, and in
nineteen ninety Loupanella shows up and he makes it known
(58:57):
right away mental mistakes are not acceptable. And he said,
that's what Terry Francona will bring to this team. That
mental mistakes. What you're talking about here right, face paths
getting picked off, those kind of mental mistakes will not
be accepted. Okay, So I'm not going to panic about
them now. I'm not going to be worried about them now.
Speaker 10 (59:19):
Now nine games in.
Speaker 15 (59:21):
The spring training, look, look, a team has habits. The
team had an identity of being super aggressive, maybe too
aggressive to a fault. Those things are hard to break,
even just in a week's worth of practice with a
new manager. Sometimes those things have to happen in a
game and then the manager sees them and if that's
the change he wants to make, now he sees them
(59:44):
manifest themselves in a game and then can change them thereafter.
I'm not going to panic or be worried about it
right now because the games don't matter, and I don't
think results matter in spring training outside of individual results,
and I think you're seeing a lot of really good
individual results right now for the Reds at spring training,
(01:00:04):
and including the big two Ellie and Matt McLain are
Terry to cover off the ball for the Reds right
now out in Arizona. But although they're still happening, I
think it's just kind of baked into what this team
was and that has to be changed and we can't
expect that to change overnight. We can't expect that to
change in one week of full team workouts. That this
(01:00:26):
team continues to make these mistakes on the base pass.
Now it's on Terry Francona. He's seen it. Now it's
on him to get it changed and get it changed
in time for opening Day, because it's the one big
change that has to be made, the one tangible thing
that we all saw last year, and I think that's
now showing itself in games and now it's on Terry
(01:00:47):
to see it and fix it for this team to
get to where they want to go this coming season.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Joe, let me ask you again, I agree, McLean has
been a very good site to see what Ellie has
been doing. Andrew Rabbit seems to be working in the
right direction. Red Louder seems to be working in the
right direction. I'm puzzled, and I guess at this point
a little concern with Spencer Steer. He didn't have any
type of procedure in the off season, but to come
in not be able to really throw. Now they're going
(01:01:15):
the route of the court of zone shot. How concerning
is this process now with Spencer Steer knowing that it's
kind of had a full off season to work itself
out and it hasn't and now it's become a problem
at spring training. Where are you out on a concern.
Speaker 10 (01:01:30):
Level, Yeah, I think we're there.
Speaker 15 (01:01:32):
I think now was the concern because when it came
back from the off season, we all kind of scratched
our head that Spencer's still having problems with his shoulder
from last year and they decided not to do anything
to fix it in the off season, and there was
a little bit of Okay, that's odd, I don't get it.
But all the language that we heard was, you know,
(01:01:54):
taking it slow, we'll start to ramp it up, he'll
be okay. And here we are now less than four
weeks from opening day and he's getting quarterzone shots, and
now is the time where it starts to become concerned
because even though it's a throwing shoulder and he can DH,
you know, he talked openly that the shoulder caused him
(01:02:18):
to have some bad habits, and the bad habits last year,
when you compensate with an injury like that, swinging the
bat caused him to have the kind of season he
had and the numbers were down, the batting average, that
the home runs. He still produced a lot of runs,
but this team relies on Spencer Steer to be one of,
if not their best run producer going forward. I mean,
(01:02:41):
this is a guy that should hit twenty five home runs,
should drive in ninety five to one hundred runs, if
not more. And if there's concerns now that it's opening
day months and he's getting quarter zone shots and everything
he says, and all you can do is take him
at face value is that they're going to get it
calmed down now so that it doesn't into June, July,
(01:03:01):
and August when this team's playing its biggest games of
the year looking towards a chase to win the NL
Central but there has to be concern at this point
with with opening day now what twenty three days away?
Speaker 10 (01:03:14):
Yeah, I'm there.
Speaker 15 (01:03:15):
If so, if you're asking me, what when does the
concern start, it's now that he's getting a quartzone shot
and trying to get this thing figured out. If it's
lingered back to last season now he has said and
the team has said that they they looked at it
again and that they they said there's there's no significant
damage in there. You have to wonder, then, why isn't
this thing healing if it's been months since it happened
(01:03:38):
last season? So concern level is there yet?
Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
It's real now.
Speaker 15 (01:03:42):
Because it doesn't just affect him playing the outfield he
has set openly, it also affects his swing and that's
what the Reds need most from him as being that big,
right handed, powerheading guy that drives in runs for this
team going forward.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Lastly, here, Joe, you guys have Fox Team put together
the Combine Show on Sunday night and it kind of
broke down Bengals options in the first round. You talked
about some of the Bearcat performances and how that went
from a combine hole in its own We've seen a
lot of the top performers that don't perform at the
combine anymore. How much to you as the combine shifted,
(01:04:20):
we saw a guy like Will Howard who just struggled
mighta least, don't the guys I've never thrown to before?
How much does the combine continue to shift in your
opinion to measurables. You get your your physicals with the teams,
and then you get to the mental side, the meetings
and pushes away a little bit from the on field action.
Do you sense the combine shifting that way?
Speaker 10 (01:04:42):
I do?
Speaker 12 (01:04:42):
I do.
Speaker 15 (01:04:42):
I think it's becoming more or less just a chance
for teams to get in the same space with guys
that they want to draft and spend time with that
person talking. You know, you talk about measurables and what
guys can do. You know, just for example, a guy
like Corey Kiner. You have Corey Kiner run of forty
and Corey Kiner catching passes out of the backfield. Well,
(01:05:03):
what does Corey Kiner do best? He breaks tackles, he
protects the quarterback. He's a guy you can hand the
ball off too all the time with ball security. He
gets first down, he moves the change, and it's like,
all these things that Corey does well, you're not setting
him up to do at the NFL Combine. So yeah,
to your point, I think you're gonna see more of
(01:05:24):
an emphasis as we go forward on this being about
the meetings, this being about these players get in front
of the media, this being about these opportunities for us
to have a chance to speak to coaches and GMS
ahead of the draft and ahead of the startup free
agency and all those things matter. But I think you're
gonna see more of an emphasis on these teams in
these players at their own pro days. And you know,
(01:05:47):
you get a guy like Will Howard who did not
perform well, but when he goes through its pro day
is when he's throwing to guys that he's comfortable with,
when it's more scripted, you're gonna see him perform better.
And maybe that's a good thing that you make this
guy go into a little but a chaos, or go
into a situation of something he's not totally comfortable with,
because that's the reality of the position they play in
(01:06:07):
the sport they play. But I think your point is made,
and I like to use Corey as the example. There
of you're not always showcasing what a guy does great
on a football field.
Speaker 10 (01:06:18):
Tape always matters.
Speaker 15 (01:06:20):
What these guys do with their interview with teams will
always matter. And then I think you're going to see
a push towards their own pro days here as the
NFL Combine continues.
Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
Awesome stuff as always that as a Joe Daneman from
Fox nineteen, who who would be the biggest surprise he'll
turn in your life? Be Jeremy row all time good guy?
Would that surprise you?
Speaker 15 (01:06:42):
Jeremy does not have a bad guy bone in his body.
Way he could ever turn you and I need to
have a conversation about this, Okay, what John Seena is
trying to accomplish because you know, WrestleMania is his retirement match. Yeah,
and John Cena has made a life on everything he's
(01:07:05):
done well, and everything he's done in the community, and
everything he's done in the ring has always been about
him being a good guy.
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Yep.
Speaker 15 (01:07:15):
And here we are the final day of John Sina turning.
Heel gosh, you gotta love it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
What a storyline, What a storyline? Joe, thanks as always
for joining us. I know you guys just had the
combine special. Anything else to keep on the radar with
what Fox nineteen has going on.
Speaker 15 (01:07:31):
Yes, this coming Sunday, because we are partners with the
Zader Musketeers and the Fox contract that the Big East has,
we have a Big East Tournament special this coming Sunday
at noon, looking ahead to the Biggest Tournament. It's not
just that, right, you know, we're in the middle of
bracketology heaven right now in Cincinnati with you see.
Speaker 14 (01:07:55):
Tanda, No, it.
Speaker 15 (01:07:56):
Is Tody embraced the chaoss I didn't hear on the
madness baby, Because what the next two weeks will mean
for Cincinnati basketball.
Speaker 10 (01:08:06):
Is a gift that we get.
Speaker 15 (01:08:09):
Meaningful basketball before conference tournament week starts and before the
big dance starts. You gotta embrace it, Tony, embrace the struggle.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
I can't wait. Joe, thank you for your time. As always,
we'll talk next you.
Speaker 4 (01:08:22):
You're squeezing us in between charity events. Joe, appreciate it.
Speaker 10 (01:08:25):
Man, you got boy.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
There he is Joe Daniman Fox nineteen good guy. For now.
He'll turn question mark.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
Before we get to a break tone or Sincy three
to sixty pole. Question Today presented by Revivefitnesssystems Dot com
and coach PJ. Street Petervifitnessystems dot com, where you can
combine innovative workouts, fat loss, nutrition, education, communication and accountability,
and a comprehensive app based program. What was your reaction
(01:08:58):
to the Bengals tagging Higgins? Because I thought to myself,
as Joe was explaining to us that he didn't really
seem to be bothered by any of this, I thought
to myself, are we prisoners of the moment? Are we
getting too caught up in this? So the answers are
the options were loved it, liked it, hated it, or indifferent?
(01:09:23):
How would you hate it?
Speaker 20 (01:09:25):
Hate it?
Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
Nine percent of people say they hated it, eight percent
say they loved it, twenty nine percent say they liked it,
and fifty two percent say they are indifferent.
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
So fifty two percent of people said, eh, yeah, okay,
I hated it for many of the reasons we've discribed
the moment.
Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
I hated it. Now I guess I liked it because
it guarantees he's going to be a Bangle next year
and gives them more time to get the deal.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
Oh, they could tacon trade him. That's not going to
happen anyway. Your talk Back Next ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports station thanks to since eat shirts. Hey, Alexa, what's
going on in bride though? All right, let me hear you?
Speaker 1 (01:10:09):

Speaker 3 (01:10:21):
Yeah, well, listen.
Speaker 21 (01:10:23):

Speaker 22 (01:10:36):
Rough for totally all.
Speaker 10 (01:10:41):
Dophing comes clost.
Speaker 5 (01:10:43):

Let's go, you've.
Speaker 10 (01:11:06):
Even when it's tough.
Speaker 23 (01:11:07):
Scenes posky with you, I'm happily lost, and the talk
backs of multi personality, the random streets attacking.
Speaker 10 (01:11:24):
Wow, pick a whopper?
Speaker 14 (01:11:25):
Yeah you gotta pend me?
Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
Well done?
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
That should go in the hopper. That is in the hopper.
That is beautiful there touching.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
I don't know how that person knew that, uh my
kids had toy story on this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
You know, I was about to ask you that when
I heard that if your kids are into toy story yet.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
It's crazy they were then they weren't, And in the
last couple of days that's all they want to watch. Really,
they're back, They're back in it.
Speaker 5 (01:11:50):
Happy Taco Tuesday about it?
Speaker 4 (01:11:52):
If you have another child and it's a boy, would
you name him Woody?
Speaker 24 (01:11:59):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:11:59):
Well know we got keep the W's. That's what I
was saying. You got Wilder and Wesley and Walker. Mmm,
Woody would make sense. Woodrow Woodrow might happen.
Speaker 25 (01:12:09):
Happy talking on Tuesday, everybody, Kevin in Order, Kentucky. Here,
What a beautiful day out here, probably some werblin. Happy
early birthday to you, Patty. Patty, We're praying for you
and especially for your daughter auDA. Yesterday, he said, Tony
and Sarah is a lot alike. As far as choosing outfits,
that's cool, But I don't want a log on social media.
See a picture of Tony Pike anywhere wearing short shorts
(01:12:30):
and some tall white boots.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Nobody wants to see that. I was talking about being.
Speaker 26 (01:12:38):
At work Tony in Austin.
Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
I have a little money. I can't find a logo
on your apparel today.
Speaker 26 (01:12:45):
By Tony in Austin. I have a little way in
on the Pete Rose Hall of Fame. Okay, I just
I know Pete had some great accomplishments and Uh, I
recognize all that, but he lied. If he hadn't lied,
if he had a lie, he probably he would have
been in there before he passed away. I just don't
see why put him in there now, And I surely
(01:13:07):
don't want Trump to have anything to do with it,
but that's the way it goes. So Hey, I'm related
and a three time Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Yeah, I can say for a fact, you won't get
very far in life by line. That's true. It always
catches up to how much like we haven't really talked
about this very much? Politics? No, the Pete Rose situation. Yeah, Like,
(01:13:35):
let me ask you this, this this could be considered cruel. Okay,
everybody always kind of thought Pete wouldn't get in until
he was dead. Now he's dead, and there is seemingly
a stronger chance than ever of him making it into
(01:13:56):
the Hall of Fame getting off the list. Sure does
the punishment fit the crime that he lied, and he gambled,
and he lied some more and he did a bunch
of bad stuff that him not being alive to see
it is the actual punch. In today's sports world, I
(01:14:20):
know we lean into gambling. I know that wasn't the case,
then I know that there are people that use steroids
that are at least on the ballot. I don't agree
with that. So I don't agree for bending the rule
for some and not for others. I think it should
be a very straight line when it comes to that.
I agree with that. I still think the lion hurt
him more than the actual gambling. I agree to come
(01:14:41):
out and say, you know what, I screwed up. I
own up to it. I take the penalty, and I
think that would have worked out a lot better.
Speaker 22 (01:14:48):
Alice, heink kill there, and I'm going now go ahead,
no tell me what, just go God dang it, Oh
my god, these idiots. Mom, I'm gonna tell you why.
Last night I had a nightmare up in the cold sweat.
The Bengals fumbled the bag so bad with Jamar and
t the Burrow got his bunds Crispy and his burger's
Burt and asked for a trade. Boh, oh my gosh,
(01:15:11):
I'm glad something like that's never happened before. And wow, hot,
oh my gosh, oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
What one of the projects for next week, I'm gonna
bring back some of the audio from Carson Palmer oh,
talking about when he got fed up with Mike Brown. Okay,
we're gonna see just how much it relates to today's
day and age. But did you see in the Athletic
article written by Paul Danner Junior this week about teams
(01:15:41):
checking in on Joe Burrow's availability.
Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
No, that's a thing.
Speaker 5 (01:15:46):
This was.
Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
This was Paul Daaner in the Athletic. Before Matthew Stafford
returning to the Rams. There was even chatter about how
a team like Los Angeles would be monitoring Joe Burrow's
hatpiness with the outcome in Cincinnati with a close eye.
Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
Good gracious, we're already there.
Speaker 4 (01:16:06):
That doesn't speak to the reality of a catastrophic fallout
with Burrow happening, but rather the skepticism about all of
it that exists around the league. I read that and thought,
I'm gonna throw up.
Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
Yeah, that's a sick.
Speaker 10 (01:16:28):
Bath.
Speaker 27 (01:16:33):
You try to hit a ball into them by me,
but I'm a gonna catch it and throw it Tony.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
You gotta man it first, and.
Speaker 28 (01:16:42):
The next thing you know, I'm forcing now you're runner
with a toss, little Joe, Because.
Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
I like that. That's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
Hey, mister Brown, well, you got the crash.
Speaker 13 (01:17:07):
I don't let us down.
Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
Like you did in the pan.
Speaker 11 (01:17:14):
We'll sandels player, get the deal done.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
I'll just bring us.
Speaker 10 (01:17:21):
One mother ball rain.
Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
Yeah, tell you what the talent is out on a Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (01:17:32):
They need to put Joe Lenardi in a retirement home.
Joe Lenardi.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Shout out to Joe. I get behind that.
Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
I think bracketology is the dubbest thing ever that a
haters are out.
Speaker 29 (01:17:46):
Follow up to Tony's rant about pet peeves last week,
Rank them automobile style failure to use left turn signal,
being on your phone when the green left turn arrow
comes on, and everybody missing the light, not creeping out
into the intersection when the light turns green when you're
making the left hand turn.
Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
I'll start on your phone. I'll bench it's a rank them, Okay,
Well on your phone is first, second would be the
turn signal, third would be creeping out. But none, none fail.
In comparison to people that still don't know how to
use roundabouts in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (01:18:25):
I know, and they're everywhere. They're everywhere on this not
on this list. But probably my biggest is people who
don't get up to speed when they're merging onto the interstate.
Oh like, get up to speed. That's why the ramp
is there. I'd probably say, not creeping out into the intersection.
Number one, phone number two, turn signal number.
Speaker 19 (01:18:49):
Three, Kentucky, Miss Miller, Senior night.
Speaker 10 (01:18:53):
I'll be in the shoe.
Speaker 19 (01:18:54):
I hope he makes himself a senior at least this,
And then t Higgins and Chase. I mean great production
values high?
Speaker 15 (01:19:00):
But am I wrong?
Speaker 19 (01:19:01):
It's hard to pay thirty or forty millions for guys
that touched the balls.
Speaker 10 (01:19:04):
He in twelve times max a game.
Speaker 14 (01:19:06):
I just don't see it.
Speaker 19 (01:19:06):
I say, let him go get somebody for twenty million.
And then lastly, Tony Me and the boys from ninety
four gett ready for the Thomas mort League. Been running
heels and throwing the duke around. When I'm throwing the duke, though,
when I go deep my ball, my nose stays up.
Speaker 10 (01:19:18):
How do I get the nose to come down?
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
It's all about the last finger. You got to loosen
up the grip and you got to snap. What are
we talking about? Was talking about a football there at
the end? Why does he keep calling what's he keep
saying about the shoe? Well, it used to be Shoemaker Center.
What did the building that the Bearcat's playing now Fifth
Third Arena as the Shoemaker Center. Okay, so something still
(01:19:43):
the Shoemakers. I gotcha there you go.
Speaker 30 (01:19:46):
Happy birthday to Patty. I tell you I would not
want to be working in the department trying to sell
tickets for the Dallas Mavericks next year. That that sounds
like a stressful job. And Austin I, i'd watch your back, man.
I heard a rumor that Bill Cunningham's trying to get
him to press attempting murder charges on you for his
(01:20:09):
fall from your chair the other day.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
Yeah, I'm sure he'll represent himself kind of judge in that.
Right now, he's talking to a judge about things.
Speaker 4 (01:20:16):
Yeah, watch y'all, don't listen to that station. Here's what
I would say about that. Willie and I had to
be separated in the hallway today. Yeah, you saw it.
You were there as he came at me, and uh,
I don't take lightly of that.
Speaker 31 (01:20:31):
As you all probably seen from my milk carton post
on X yesterday, I too am concerned about the whereabouts
of Mark, wondering if he ran out and receipt to
cash in and if his flowers are all whilted it up, Mark,
let us.
Speaker 12 (01:20:45):
Know what's going on.
Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
We're concerned about you day.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Yeah, Mark, where are you?
Speaker 5 (01:20:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
I don't think he has social media or anything. I
don't know how to get a hold of him.
Speaker 32 (01:20:54):
Hey, guys, talk back matters guy, great show on a
Taco Tuesday. Anyway, I do disagree with you. It's too
early to be talking about picking off. I know nobody
likes seeing it, and we don't know if they're working
on it or not what they're doing. If we're in
the last five games of the season, of the preseason
(01:21:15):
spring training and they're doing that, then we have problems.
Speaker 5 (01:21:17):
But let's get the guy.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
Let's get them.
Speaker 32 (01:21:20):
Terry's a good Hall of fame, think about that.
Speaker 33 (01:21:24):
Okay, And we're here with Red shortstop Ellie d La
Cruz and Ellie, can you give us an outlook on
how you feel about this season and what has Tito
really done to change the clubhouse?
Speaker 34 (01:21:40):
Crays So amuta gentet on, Tito Francona, evea di equippo.
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
I love Victoria. Let's go rid.
Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
Okay, that was pretty impressive, but I'm worried because I
don't know what any of that means. We don't know
what we just let. I'm afraid of what what that
could be?
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
What did we just let on the air.
Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
Yeah, So did you see what he said last night
about Batman and Robin? No, that was pretty funny. Jim
Day was interviewing him, interviewing Matt McLean and he says,
if you guys are Batman and Robin, who's Batman and
who's Robin? And mcclan like puffed his chest out and
he's like, I'm Batman and Ellie said, no, you're Robin
(01:22:28):
because Robin's short and Batman is black.
Speaker 35 (01:22:37):
That's my John Michael impersonation. Hello everybody, Kevin from Morton, Kentucky.
It's multi personality.
Speaker 12 (01:22:47):
Mike.
Speaker 36 (01:22:47):
I'm hiding in the employee warshroom. You guys, you buried
the lead in the first segment The Hard Knocks with
Bill Belichick, North Carolina.
Speaker 10 (01:22:59):
It's fallen through. I was looking forward to watching that.
Speaker 3 (01:23:04):
Well, if that's the case, it's because Yaka's on the staff,
that would be why.
Speaker 4 (01:23:08):
Google Translate says, I think the Reds will surprise a
lot of people this year. Francona will lead this team
to victory. Well done, I think, okay, so that was cleaned.
Speaker 37 (01:23:18):
You're giving me twenty four hours to really think about
the scent of a UC candle.
Speaker 5 (01:23:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 37 (01:23:25):
I think it's the combination of the smells from Calhoun
Hall's laundry room combined with the smell of pictures of
beer from Uncle Woodie's, and then the smell of textbooks
and ink from the Boys Bookstore, and then the smell
of Bogart's men's bathroom.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
That would be a great smelling candle.
Speaker 28 (01:23:51):
Tony Austin Jack from Not Healthy Here, John got start
bench cut on the Tequila Tuesday. Fly on the Wall
we always run be a fly in the wall, see
what's going down?
Speaker 5 (01:24:02):
You know the room where it happens.
Speaker 12 (01:24:04):
Right?
Speaker 28 (01:24:04):
Would you rather be a fly on the wall and
this person's office this week? Stark bench cut Katie Blackburn,
John Cunningham or Nick Krawl Stark bench cut for this week?
Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
Gosh, John Cunningham and Nick Krawl are unbelievably boring, both
of them, man, So I would definitely choose Katie.
Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
I would probably choose Katie, but I think there's gonna
be an interesting couple weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:24:31):
For John Cunningham. I might choose Troy over Katie when
it comes to the stadium. Yeah, I'll crawl a little
bit longer. He would be last for me. I would,
I would cut that, but I would bench Cunningham and.
Speaker 22 (01:24:40):
Pale hair quick double dip. Just a shout out to
whoever opened the talk boxes today with that song that
let him jingle that was that was beautiful. That's got
to be in the hopper. That's in the laid for
me for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:24:53):
Thank you the hopper.
Speaker 37 (01:24:55):
The hopper talkbox has turned into American idol audition.
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
That's true. I won't you sing something, Jim, Come on, Jim.
Speaker 5 (01:25:07):
What's up? Fellas?
Speaker 38 (01:25:08):
I know they're trying to get rid of this touch Puss.
I think that's kind of silligal trying to get rid
of it. But what would you think about something like
maybe a team has to declare it and they're not.
Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
They can't pass it. If they're going to do it,
they have.
Speaker 10 (01:25:21):
To run it.
Speaker 38 (01:25:22):
Nope, And maybe maybe you can only do it in
certain situations, kind of like the way onside kicks are,
like fourth quarters or when you're losing.
Speaker 5 (01:25:33):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
Shout out to this talkbacker though on a Tuesday afternoon,
thinking you know what, I still got that touch push
on my mind.
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
Disagree vehemently, and I think I don't think it should
be banned.
Speaker 8 (01:25:44):
Hey guys, it's stimers in here, and according to they're
rens something linked and they're star player Spencer Shoulder. The
remainder of the season remains.
Speaker 39 (01:25:57):
To be swinging, whether he'll play or before After the
old Star break handed Nick Londolo look to have an
up and rising season.
Speaker 3 (01:26:09):
Tim, Thank you man, great to hear from you. That
is just perfect.
Speaker 4 (01:26:14):
Man into the hopper, our guy Drew is he might
be our most talented man all around impersonation and impressionist.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
All right, that's good man, that's a good round today.
It was good.
Speaker 4 (01:26:30):
I take a couple or four into the hopper. All right,
the Hopper, the hopper. Could you when we get a
chance of the commercial break, could you like draw a
hopper like what the hopper looks like? Maybe some sort
of display of like I have a hard time draw
rendition of Norris. I have a hard time visualizing Norris Hopper.
Is what I'm thinking of, Norris Hopper, many gamer, So
(01:26:52):
I just draw a portrait of him.
Speaker 5 (01:26:53):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (01:26:54):

Trial and Consulting.
Speaker 40 (01:28:12):
I'm Joe Stargraman along with Byron Larkin and Byron If
your recruit you look at a lot of different things,
but style will play is one of the things I
think every player looks at. We're gonna play fast, we're
gonna play slow. What kind of defense do they play?
When you look at Xavier, you can really make a
case it's a good place to play.
Speaker 27 (01:28:28):
Yeah, Joe, if you like open court, fast break, natural basketball,
that's what Xavier's trademark is. This year they're number one
in the Big East, and fast break points they're the tops,
and free throw percentage and three point percentage, and that's
the way we all.
Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
Grew up playing.
Speaker 27 (01:28:47):
You play kind of positionless basketball, You get out, you
shoot a lot of threes, You have a lot of
fun because everyone wants to score.
Speaker 40 (01:28:56):
A little bit of free and maybe initially when you're
trying to master that style of the freedom, it can
be a little bit tough because you have to make
a lot of decisions quickly. But once you figure that out,
you're off.
Speaker 27 (01:29:07):
To the races, absolutely, And it's a fun way to play,
but you have to have some structure around it, and
Sean Miller is one of the best at doing both
playing fast but having structure.
Speaker 41 (01:29:18):
ESPN fifteen thirty Savior fans, this is Joe Sunderman, voice

All right, welcome back our three. You heard it right
there thanks to Penn Station ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Let's get right to it here, Austin, you say the reverend, Yes,
the Reverend, the Reverend Rick browing all over with the Norse,
with the Xavier Musketeers and spending time today making time
on a very busy Tuesday afternoon for us here on
(01:31:34):
Sincy three sixty. Hi, Rick, how are you?
Speaker 14 (01:31:36):
Let's going on?
Speaker 5 (01:31:37):
Fellas?
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Rick Austin has has coined it. He's waiting for someone
to pick up on it. January February Norse, what do
you think?
Speaker 5 (01:31:47):
Not bad?
Speaker 9 (01:31:48):
I mean three days in March has worked pretty well
for them this year. We can't use that because they
got to play four games in the Horizon League tournament.
So yeah, maybe we'll just roll with that.
Speaker 5 (01:31:58):
I like it. January februe yea, thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
Speaking of the Norse, they're in action tonight. The Horizon
League Championship gets underway. First round action. As you mentioned,
that's a little bit different first round action. They're gonna
host Detroit Mercy. They're a thirteen and a half point
favor But outside of the game tonight, what is the
feel what is the vibe around this team as they
enter into a conference championship knowing they've got to win
(01:32:23):
it to get to the dance.
Speaker 9 (01:32:26):
I think it's confidence, really, is what I've seen from them,
and that's a big difference from where they were at
two months ago, or you know, maybe even say six
weeks ago something like that. You know, I mean, it's
really been an impressive transformation over the course of the
last month for this group. And really, I think one
thing that helps them out as we head into the
(01:32:48):
postseason is the fact that you've got guys like Sam Vinson,
who's a fourth year player who's already won Horizon League championship,
Trey Robinson, fifth year player has already won a Horizon
League championship, and even like one of your newcomers Josh Dilling,
who's played a big role as a Division two transfer.
He's a fifth year postgraduate guy, super smart, super mature.
(01:33:09):
I think that level of experience and maturity is really
going to help this team as that they get ready
to play in March.
Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
The path itself. You look at Detroit, Mercy Nku is
a big favorite in this They knocked him off earlier
in the year, but when they were on that skid
where they did lose six in a row that was
finished punctuated by a loss to this Detroit Mercy team.
What went wrong in that one and what can be
changed for tonight's game against Detroit Mercy.
Speaker 9 (01:33:36):
Yeah, it's funny Tony looking back at that game. As
I was trying to get ready for this one, I
started watching the video, and I mean I got to
a point where I was just like, I don't really
think there's much I can take from this. I mean,
NKU looks like a completely different team right now than
they did then. They were out of sorts on both
ends of the floor, offense and defense. And I think
(01:33:58):
one the biggest thing that everyone's going to look to,
and people are probably getting tired of hearing me talk
about it, is the emergence of Dan Gorezker. I mean,
the Division two trains for at the point guard position.
His athleticism, his ability to create plays on the offensive end,
and even recently some late game defensive moments for him
have really stuck out. He has helped kind of move
everybody down a peg in terms of their role and
(01:34:22):
the load that they have to carry. And that's really
helped make everybody else more dynamic and more dangerous on
the offensive end. So looking back to that game, it's
hard to really say what went wrong other than Nku
was just not playing good basketball at all in any way,
and they've gotten a lot better since then. And I
think the biggest thing to point to is the fact
(01:34:42):
that Dan Gorezker wasn't really a factor back then and
now he could be the best player on the court
in tonight's game.
Speaker 3 (01:34:47):
It's always about playing your best at the right time
and with obviously confidence, and it's something we'll talk about
with Xavier in just a couple of minutes as well.
But how different is it for this team that they
are able to go into this tournament winners of four
of their last four games, to get that confidence, to
ride a little bit of a hot streak into a tournament,
while we've seen in years past anything can happen.
Speaker 9 (01:35:11):
I think it was huge for them because we kept
saying all along, well, it's okay, you know, they're known
to turn it on when it matters, They're known to
play their best basketball in February in March, Well, you
can keep saying that, and then all of a sudden,
when you lose seven in a row in January and
you're really struggling, it's like, well, are they actually going
to turn it on? I mean, to just say that
about a team without actually seeing proof of it is
(01:35:34):
I don't know how much buy and you're gonna get
heading into the postseason. But with the way that this
group turned it around and really played their best basketball
down their stretch and won four in a row in
the regular season and even against some of the better
teams in the conference, I think they go in with
a real sense of confidence, and it's earned confidence in
this case.
Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
The way the Horizon League tournament is set up where
you play March fourth and sixth, and then there is
the break, do you find that helpful to a team
or would you rather just get it out of the way.
Obviously you look at rest and having to start in
the opening round and not have that buy is a detriment.
Do you think you'd rather just play it through or
(01:36:13):
does that rest become vital if you're trying to do
what NK you was trying to do.
Speaker 9 (01:36:18):
Yeah, I mean, we haven't seen since they moved to
the current format of the turnament, we haven't seen a
team win four games in a championship, so it definitely
is a factor, and getting to buy helps. But I
think NKU was a bit of a unique circumstance this
year because they were projected to be a top team,
(01:36:38):
a top half of the conference type team. Dan Gorezner
was expected to be a really good player for them,
and it took a while, but all of a sudden.
Speaker 10 (01:36:46):
He has emerged here late and they have.
Speaker 9 (01:36:48):
Had so much postseason success under this coaching staff that
I think a lot of teams in the conference have
taken note of what NK You's been doing over the
last few weeks, and they're not viewing the Norse as
a typical seven seed by any stretch of the imagination.
Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
How are you seeding? I know they've they have Robert
Morris as the one, and NK you has played them
really well both times, unfortunately losing Cleveland State is the two,
but NKU has a win over Cleveland State. How do
you go about just trying to determine who the favorite
would be coming out of this and also the confidence
in playing these teams really well or even beating them
(01:37:22):
going forward?
Speaker 9 (01:37:25):
Yeah, I mean, I think you know, if everything goes
chalk NK, you would end up going to Cleveland State
for a rematch against going back to Cleveland for a
rematch against Cleveland State, and I think for en KU
fans you feel pretty good about that. In terms of
what matchup you could end up with in the first round,
that would probably be the best one. If a team
NKU matches up well against Cleveland State isn't the most
dynamic team on the offensive end. They played really physical
(01:37:47):
and really tough defensively, but they don't scare you in
terms of their firepower on offense, so it's a pretty
good matchup for them. I think Robert Morris has certainly
earned the one seed and they've been impressive all year.
They have the player of the year in the league
in Alberto Fulgaris. They also have another big time rebounder
in a Marion Dickerson that NK would really have to
account for if they end up facing them at some point.
(01:38:10):
But then on the other side of the bracket, I
think Milwaukee is always a threat with their athleticism and
the rebounders that they have, so I would definitely keep
an eye on them coming out of that bottom half.
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
Let's switch gears here. Rick to the Xavier Musketeers. Xavier
knew down the stretch what needed to happen, and I
think they knew even further when they lost that game
to Villanova that you probably have to run the table
and win the next seven. Well, they've started five for five.
Let me ask this to start seeing now what the
bracketologists have viewed it as and where they sit in
(01:38:43):
the rankings. Do you think it's enough to just run
the table and win seven straight to get in that
large bit or would still come down to the Big
East Tournament and how this team plays.
Speaker 9 (01:38:54):
You know, I'm a big believer in if you need
your conference tournament to get in to play your way,
you're not getting in the tournament. I think we've just
seen too many examples in recent years of teams racking
up quad one wins in their conference tournament and not
really doing anything for them in terms of their seed
line or whether they're in a large bid or not.
(01:39:14):
So if that's what you're relying on as a Xavior fan,
I would feel pretty worried come selection Sunday, regardless of
what happens at Madison Square Garden. Now, the question remains,
is the resume good enough? To get them in, and
I think it's just tough to say. Right now, it
seems like they are right on the cut line. I
just wrote a piece of musketeer Report dot com saying
(01:39:34):
that you know, the typical, most famous bracketologists that you
always hear from from big networks are actually the least accurate,
so they're the worst to follow in these types of
situations or getting out the nitty gritty. I posted about
the top ten from bracket Matrix. They have a ranking
that goes over the last three plus years and gives
an average ranking. I posted off the top ten who
(01:39:55):
have updated their projections since Laviors went on Saturday over Creighton,
and eight of the ten had Xavier as one of
the first four teams out, so still on the outside
looking in. Two of them had them in the field
in playing game up in Dayton bracket Matrix overall, which
aggregates over one hundred bracketologists across the country, not all
(01:40:16):
of them have been updated since that game, but based
on what they have so far, as Xavier is still
the second team out of the field right now, so
you know, I think the pass for Xavier right now
is the hope that teams on the bubble continue to
lose the way they have in these other high major conferences.
Xavier wins out and the twenty one wins and the
fact that they've just won a bunch of games in
(01:40:36):
a row here to end the season, passing the eye
test will be enough to get them to sort of
back their way into an at large bid, even though
they have that one to nine record in Quad one games.
Speaker 3 (01:40:48):
Obviously, a loss to Butler of Providence would would be
crucial for this team and their hopes and are at large.
But it did take a step forward because of what
we saw on the court against Creighton. I thought one
of the most, if not the most impressive performances of
Xavier all year, and they did so with Zach Fremantle
having nineteen of his twenty three in the second half.
(01:41:08):
They were up by fifteen at the half. Was was
that just a culmination of so many things? The atmosphere
at the Cintas Center, the way the team has played
as of late, the emergence of Dante Maddox off the bench.
It just felt like everything coming together and the perfect
storm for Xavier on Saturday.
Speaker 9 (01:41:29):
Yeah, I think a lot of things went right. I
think the atmosphere was kind of a buzzaw for any
team to walk into. It was going to be a
tough environment for an opponent to win in. One thing
that's interesting about Creighton is their differential between how they
shoot in Omaha at home and how they shoot on
the road is one of the biggest drops.
Speaker 5 (01:41:47):
In the nation.
Speaker 9 (01:41:48):
Meaning on the road that you know, they really shoot
much worse than they do at home typically, and I
think that showed up in this game. You know, the
first time they've really struggled to stop Ryan Calprinter and
they gave up a bunch to threes to Cretan shooters
this time around. You know, Ashewn Miller after the game,
what'd you do to take away the three point shooting
because they didn't shoot very well?
Speaker 5 (01:42:06):
And he said, you.
Speaker 9 (01:42:07):
Know, our entire focus was basically saying, we don't want
Ryan Coulbrinner to play well again, and he still scored
twenty three points. So I do look at Creton shooting
and their struggles on the road this year from three
point range and maybe something to look at when you
start looking at your bracket and filling it out and
thinking about what you're going to do with this Creyton
team for.
Speaker 3 (01:42:27):
The job Sean Miller has done. It felt like this
season was unraveling very early on we oftentime. I asked, Okay,
who's going to go with Zach Freemantle? And now I
look at this roster and you almost you want them
to keep playing because how it's come together, what you've
get gotten from Ryan Conwell, Foster can can play a
(01:42:47):
big role at times, Hunter Maddox, McKnight swain. It just
feels like this team who once was desperate for options
now has a ton of options of guys that can
contribute game in and game out. Just speak to the
depth of what has been established as the season has
went on here For Sean Miller.
Speaker 9 (01:43:06):
Yeah, I mean, they don't have a lot of bodies,
but I do think they have a number of weapons,
and I think the emergence of Dante Maddix has been
really key there, giving them another three point shooter and
a guy that can give you a twenty point night
any given game. That's really been huge for them down
the stretch. And I think his playoff the bench has
added a lot of confidence for those guys when they
see them have to go to the bench. It's no
(01:43:28):
longer like a, oh no, what are we going to
do here? Are we going to be able to hold
on to this league? Or are we going to fall
behind by a bunch of points now like it was earlier.
Speaker 5 (01:43:36):
In the year.
Speaker 9 (01:43:37):
And even you know the play of John Hubley being
able to step in defensively and hold off Ryan Colt
Runner a little bit in that matchup against Creighton. I
think those just those little they haven't been dominant every night,
but those little moments from the bench that they've been
able to provide Jerome Hunter as well, those have been
key moments for this team, and I think that's.
Speaker 5 (01:43:58):
Gone a long way for them.
Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
It's the biggest worry or biggest thing they need to
avoid on the road at Butler tomorrow night. Butler is
a team that obviously they have taken care of during
this seven game stretch. I know it's different on the road.
What's the biggest hurdle now for this team tomorrow night.
Speaker 9 (01:44:16):
Paul Fritchner and I were talking a lot about this
last night, and I think the more I think about it,
because it's just not a good matchup for Butler. I mean, physically,
they are not as athletic as Xavier and the way
that they want to guard it. They help a lot,
and Zavier really is able to create ball movement and
get off a lot of open shots for the guys
(01:44:36):
that they want to get open shots for. I think
Butler had success in the second half. Granted David was
playing with a huge lead, so that might have been
part of it, but that they just kind of got
a little bit sloppy. But Butler going to that two
three zone in the second half of that game at
the Centa Center and David's struggling offensively. I think it's
something to keep.
Speaker 10 (01:44:56):
An eye on that.
Speaker 9 (01:44:56):
Maybe David playing on the road at Hinklefield House on
Senior Night with a rabid fan base that loves to
beat Xavier and would love to ruin their season here.
I think that's the most concerning thing, is that maybe
Butler just MUCKs it up, plays a junk defense, and
even if they don't play a junk defense, just they
pack it in and Xavier is not hitting outside stotts
(01:45:17):
in a difficult environment. That's the big concern.
Speaker 3 (01:45:19):
You always just worry about the let down after such
a huge game, and so much was made about Creighton
Rick brooring for NKU for Xavier. I know March makes
things even busier for you, so we appreciate the time today.
What's the easiest way to follow along with everything for
the month of March.
Speaker 9 (01:45:36):
Obviously you find me on Twitter at Rick Breing. You
find all the Xavier stuff at Musketeer Report, and I
am a big Facebook guys, so hit me up on
faces like you can just look up for Brewing.
Speaker 4 (01:45:46):
Have you guys dropped Norse Nuggets yet and if so,
when can we expect that?
Speaker 9 (01:45:51):
You guys are actually holding up the production of nor
Reels right now. The team just got done with shoot around,
they went to film, and Jim Kelch just out in
the arena right now waiting to shooting Horse Nuggets. You
guys are holding out the whole process right now.
Speaker 3 (01:46:03):
Give our best to Jim. Apologize on our behalf. We
appreciate your time. Thanks as always, Rick.
Speaker 9 (01:46:09):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:46:10):
There he is Rick Browing.
Speaker 39 (01:46:13):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:46:14):
I would not want to make Jim Kelch wait for anything.
No love that guy. It's a good point. Jim Kelch,
by the way, big fan of since he three to sixty.
Good loves this year. Talk to Jim and we love Jim. Yeah,
we need to get Jim On I know he's doing
bats games again this year. Who will have Mon Tuck
a little baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:46:32):
There is a massive, massive contract that just came down
in the NFL. Yes, there is the Philadelphia Eagles. Do
you want the breaking news sounder for this?
Speaker 21 (01:46:43):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:46:43):
We're all right. The Philadelphia Eagles have rewarded, and I
say rewarded say Kwan Barkley with a two year, forty
one point two million dollar contract extension that makes him
the highest paid running back in the history of the NFL.
He will be making twenty plus million per year. He
(01:47:04):
also has the ability to earn an additional fifteen million
in incentives and escalators. The deal includes thirty six million
fully guaranteed at signing.
Speaker 4 (01:47:15):
First running back in NFL history to make twenty million
plus per year.
Speaker 3 (01:47:20):
How about this. The Eagles are taking the rare step
of extending Barkley one year into his three year deal
and in the same league year in which they signed
him to the initial contract. That's pretty amazing, unbelievable stuff.
That is crazy insane.
Speaker 4 (01:47:37):
You want everyone to wonder if you made the right decision,
if you're Sae Kwon Barkley about not getting back to
the Giants.
Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
Yep, I mean there it is. That is nuts.
Speaker 4 (01:47:45):
Do you think the renaissance of the running back is
upon us in the National Football League?
Speaker 3 (01:47:52):
I think you got to see it one more year.
I think one more year dominated like it was, and
yes it is back. It also is how many says
Kwon Barkley's grow on trees? Yeah, not many of them,
and look not many, Henry. Let's be honest. For sa
Quon much of his time his tenure, he did have
the nagging injuries. This is the first year he stayed
healthy and he produced at that level. He is rightfully
(01:48:14):
so being rewarded for that by the Philadelphia Eagles. We'll
take a break, we'll come back. We've talked Xavier, We've
talked Nku. Let's hear what Wes Miller had to say
in his weekly press conference that just finishing up at
the University of Cincinnati. We'll dive into that end. More
still ahead. Since he three to sixty on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of Penn Station, low Eger,
(01:48:37):
there was some booing of the team last night.
Speaker 42 (01:48:39):
When it comes to sports, he's got something to say
for just natural byproducts and plenty of it a poor play.
Loegar Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
I'm ritually three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati's Sports station.
Speaker 3 (01:49:03):
Yeah, since he three. Thank you to our friends at
Penn Station on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. We
got to meet some Penn Station folks today. Yes, it's
the best. It's the best part about this business. The
food drop and today today we got our hands Austin
(01:49:23):
on the new Buffalo Chicken sub. My new favorite item.
I was gonna say. I was asked today when they
came in, what are my favorites. I have the pizza sub,
I have the chicken Teraoki and the Philly Cheese steak.
The Buffalo Chicken sub has now skyrocketed to the top
of my rankings. They had it with blue cheese, they
had it with ranch. I went with the Ranch. Yeah,
I went with the Ranch too. I mean, they have
(01:49:45):
it for you people who have no idea what's going
on and like blue cheese, but Ranch on that Buffalo
chicken and listen, I have a confession to make. I'm
anti tomatoes. Yeah, sandwiches, but I ate the tomato on
that today. How and I enjoyed it. They brought lemonade along.
It's the ultimate compliment, which compliments it so well. And
I have a confession to make, Okay. They brought in
(01:50:07):
a pan of the chocolate chip cookies. Didn't really no,
I didn't see that at all. So there was a
pan of chocolate chip cookies. You destroyed those, did well?
They brought it. They brought it in here, and they're like, here,
take the sub, you want, grab some cookies. And I
looked into the bag and I'll pull it up here
on our camera just to show you often. I actually
found the second full tin of cookies and have since
(01:50:30):
kept how about that full tin in here? So they
put one in our break room and I kept the
other because I knew those cookies would be ravaged thrill
the people around this office. As soon as they smell
the scent of anything, it's gone in that kitchen. So
I kept some chocolate chip cookies. We've got the lemonade
and the new Buffalo Chicken sub was phenomenal. Thank you,
(01:50:51):
thank you, thank you to our friends at Penn Station.
We talked some Muskies, we talked some Norse. Wes Miller
spoke just a few minutes to go, closing out everything
from the Houston game and talking about what tomorrow night
is an opportunity against Kansas State, but also Senior Night,
which is a little bit different in today's college basketball landscape.
(01:51:13):
But here's a little bit of Wes Miller his press
conference from just a few minutes ago. Senior Day.
Speaker 20 (01:51:19):
It's a changing tradition now because it doesn't you don't
get what you used to get in terms of guys
that have been here four or five years or whatever.
But as a coach, what does Senior Day mean to you?
Getting to see these guys kind of walk and do
that stuff.
Speaker 24 (01:51:36):
Yeah, and I think you'll still get that, it just
to be less often. And when you do get a
four or five year guy, I think that that's something
that is even more special now and I think we
all have to celebrate that.
Speaker 3 (01:51:51):
But I think it's an opportunity.
Speaker 24 (01:51:53):
To recognize guys that'll put the jersey on for the
last time and in this arena and celebrate the end
of a college career. So I think there's still value
and meaning to it, and we'll still take it very
seriously and honor those guys. But it's probably different than
(01:52:15):
it was fifteen twenty years ago, right where the standard
was that everybody you know, with very few exceptions, was
in college for four or five years when they celebrated
seeing it because the guys that weren't usually were guys
that left early to go to the NBA.
Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
What were your takeaways from the Houston Lass?
Speaker 40 (01:52:33):
Obviously another single digit out and you guys fought hard
with them again but just short once again this year.
Speaker 24 (01:52:39):
Yeah, I wasn't disappointed in our guys play. I thought
we thought we played with a lot of fight and
a lot of edge. I thought we were prepared. I
thought the guys played aggressively. You know, the six turnovers
in the first half between Dan and Siemas if I'm
(01:53:01):
being picky, you know, that was you know that that
was a negative, but they were aggressive turn They weren't
like casual turnovers. They were aggressive turnovers. So I thought,
other than that, we took care of the ball against
the team that generates turnovers at a high level pretty well.
I thought we out rebounded them, you know, like, I
(01:53:22):
thought there was a lot of really good stuff. Dade's
foul trouble was was was really frustrating. Not because I
felt like day they played with a lack of discipline
or committed silly fouls because they didn't feel, you know,
like he should be in foul trouble and it certainly
didn't feel like that after watching the tape, so I
(01:53:42):
thought that was so that is just breaking them downs
really important and were plus eleven in da Day's minutes,
so that was you know, that was I thought that
had an effect on the game, being the closer game
and the last possession or two. But you know that
those are my thoughts. I think we got to regroup
(01:54:04):
and we're disappointed with the outcome for sure, so we
got to regroup and get ready for another big game.
Speaker 33 (01:54:09):
I think last year for Senior Day, you said if
a player has any eligibility left, he's not walking.
Speaker 3 (01:54:14):
Is that the plan again this year?
Speaker 9 (01:54:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 24 (01:54:17):
I think as things continue to evolve, we'll continue to adjust. Like,
you know, my feelings on the the nature of our
sport or the norms in our sport change at such
a rapid level now, like we'll adjust when it makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
But yeah, like like Daatea.
Speaker 24 (01:54:42):
And Connor will not be out there tomorrow because you know,
the hope is that they'll be back in fifth third
playing basketball again again. We're not going to get into
the semantics because it's different than the old days. I
think they both want to be back here, but like
there's a lot more that goes into for both of them.
I mean, Connor's got to work through a waiver and
(01:55:04):
you know, like so we're not going to get into
all that right now because we got to focus on
winning games. But that is why they will not be
out there celebrating, because there's basketball left for those guys
to play.
Speaker 7 (01:55:15):
If this is the last time you see seems or
is these play just your your thoughts on having them
as Bearcats.
Speaker 24 (01:55:24):
Well, I hope I see him play, you know, yeah
in fifth in fifth, right, right, yeah, Okay, it's like
this says at the last game of the year at least,
unless unless you know about some global pandemic that's going
to break out again. I'm just I'm like, oh, Scott,
Scott's on the beat man like he might know something
and going on in another country.
Speaker 1 (01:55:45):
I don't be sitting here.
Speaker 24 (01:55:47):
Yeah the uh but uh no, I I think that. Uh.
The transition from the American to the Big twelve has
been a awesome transition. It's been awesome, like I think this,
this department, this university, this community belongs in a power
(01:56:11):
league and so but that's it's been a real transition
for every sport here and for the whole department. And
I think of guys like Siemas and disease. You know,
it's guys that have been crucial to our ability to
manage the transition, you know, and uh, I think sometimes
(01:56:32):
people don't realize how significant of a jump it is
from the.
Speaker 12 (01:56:35):
American to the twelfth.
Speaker 24 (01:56:37):
And you know, certainly, like up to this point, there's
some results were disappointed in, but there's some stuff that's
been pretty good too. And it certainly could have been
a lot worse, and it's not been worse because of
guys like Semos and disease, and they've they've been able
to walk through the door and compete at that level
night in the night out, and that's been incredibly important
up to up to now. And the neat thing is
(01:56:59):
and I always say this was senior night. You can't
do too much reflecting because we're not done yet. So
you appreciate them, you honor them, You do the more
of the reflecting when the season ends. But those guys
have bet a lot to this program in this university.
Speaker 3 (01:57:15):
All right, there's part of west Miller speaking today, closing
the book on Houston and talking Senior Night tomorrow night,
that game against Kansas State seven o'clock tip. It is.
It's a lot different how Senior Night is handled now
than what it was because so much of these players'
future is unknown still with waivers and the portal and
the extra year of eligibility. It's hard to predict where
(01:57:37):
things go to this point if you're looking to stick around,
if you're looking to remain, at least in a conversation,
right now, they're on that next four out line. I
believe the six team out of the tournament. According to
Joe Lonardi. Well, if that's the case, you can't lose
at home against Kansas State. That's pretty simple. It's pretty
(01:57:57):
cut and dry. That's what it is at this point.
You know, it's a must win situation. We'll talk more
about that with Chad Breundle before he takes over for
Mowagger today, but we'll close a book on a couple
of different topics to finish out since he three to
sixty on our end. When we come back on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Hey, do you run a business?
Speaker 6 (01:58:16):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:58:25):
Welcome back since e three sixty thanks to Penn Station
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's grab a
phone call. Let's update our poll question before we get
the Chad Brendle Rob is calling in. What's up?
Speaker 26 (01:58:35):
Rob?
Speaker 24 (01:58:37):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (01:58:37):
Yeah, guys, thanks for taking my call. I have a
quick comment about Pete and then a very a little
well known story about Pete as well, So I'm not
making any excuse for him. There's no excuse for Lyne,
and frankly, I'm surprised that he didn't have better advice.
(01:58:58):
On that note, I'm not sure when addictions were diagnosed
as a deep disease, but gambling is an addiction. It's
no different than alcohol, porn, drugs. It's an addiction, and
I don't know that that was ever factored into anything
about his situation. With that said, it's no secret about
(01:59:24):
he playing the ponies at River Downs now Beltra Park
at every chance that he got. Here is the little
known story. I grew up in the Licking Riverside neighborhood
in Covington, so very close to the confluence of the
Ohio River and Licking River. My family's home was the Hernhouse.
(01:59:48):
He's probably passed it. When you come down to the
end of fifth Street, you run into that big, beautiful mansion.
That was my family's home. We rented a out. We
lived in the coach house behind it that was on
the Licking River. And during that time, a guy from
(02:00:12):
nineteen sixty three to nineteen seventy five by the name
of Jake Lazarus resided on the first floor in the
right hand department, a beautiful building. If Lazarus sounds like
a familiar name, he was the black sheep of the
Lazarus family. Sure, the Lazarus family had found the Confederated
(02:00:37):
apartment store Chilateou's, Macy's, etc. He was the black sheep.
He resided there from nineteen sixty three to nineteen seventy five.
And every year I would get baseballs signed by all
the Reds, and when the Bengals I would get we
would get footballs. Course us kids didn't appreciate it. We
(02:01:00):
played with them, but they were signed baseball and in
the summertime when the Reds would end the game, well,
a lot of times in those days they had double
edters on Sundays, but when they didn't have a double edder,
we actually got Jake would actually take us over to
Pete's house when he was still married to his original wife, And.
Speaker 3 (02:01:25):
So when they get to the point here, I got
to get to the point.
Speaker 12 (02:01:29):
Ja Jake had five telephone lines. My point is Pete
was gambling long before his entire life, and that that's
my point. I don't know if he was betting on baseball,
but he was definitely gambling.
Speaker 3 (02:01:47):
That's fair. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, thanks for the fun,
Thank you. And I do think there is something to
the sickness or the addiction that many do go through.
Speaker 4 (02:01:56):
Yeah, I'm glad Rob said that because that's I guess
that's not something I've really thought of thought of it
that way before, but it is true.
Speaker 9 (02:02:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:02:01):
Well, addiction is you can destroy lives in a lot
of different ways, and I think it's screwed Peede up
a lot of different ways as well.
Speaker 3 (02:02:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:02:09):
Correct, But yeah, there's there's a ton of stories about
him at River Downs and all sorts of stuff constantly.
Speaker 3 (02:02:16):
So let's uh, let's let's update our poll question and
then let's get the Chad Breundle.
Speaker 4 (02:02:21):
Heck our Revivefitnessystems dot Com poll question brought to you
by Revivefitnessystems dot Com and coach PJ.
Speaker 3 (02:02:27):
Street.
Speaker 4 (02:02:27):
You can go vote at Audielmore at ESPN fifteen thirty
eight Tony Underscore Bike fifteen. What was your reaction to
the Bengals tagging T Higgins? Eight percent loved it, seven
percent hated it, thirty one percent liked it, fifty one
percent indifferent. Okay, tone, Perhaps we are just prisoners of
(02:02:52):
the moment maybe and just obsessed here maybe, and you know,
just we want immediate satisfaction, we have to wait a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (02:03:01):
That's fair. That's fair. Let's take a let's tay the way.
Speaker 4 (02:03:04):
Speaking of wide receiver news, the New York Jets have
made some wide receiver news today.
Speaker 3 (02:03:09):
What happened?
Speaker 4 (02:03:10):
They are releasing Davante Adams. Wow, freeze up almost thirty
million in cap for the Jets. They have also given
permission to veteran wide receiver Alan Lazard to seek a
trade artists back sheet. Yeah, they are really trying to
rid themselves of the Aaron Rodgers era in New York.
Speaker 3 (02:03:32):
Unbelievable. Glenn getting right to work. We'll take a break,
Chad Breundle is next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
It's quick hits coming.
Speaker 2 (02:03:40):
Up, Cincinnati, Make us on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
It's time for since the three sixty quick Hits on
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (02:03:54):
No, we're not looking. He's not here. We finally got
that through. Chad Breundle is here, Benny Tomorrow, He's back tomorrow.
I think I'm not in tomorrow. No, No, we got
a basketball. I need a break tomorrow, like I've been
going to way too much?
Speaker 16 (02:04:08):
Are you?
Speaker 3 (02:04:08):
Uh? I mean this is a big, big give up
today because you could be down there at the ballpark
watching the Red Leg or the the I was there.
Speaker 20 (02:04:16):
Did you not hear me ask my questions at the
press conference? And then I was here by the time
you played it, Like that's how efficient I am too?
And then I got some penn station in between. Got
some cookies here if you want.
Speaker 3 (02:04:28):
Them, Yeah, I do. I almost bought a box of those. Yeah,
two boxes came today. I kept wanting here for you,
and I of that move.
Speaker 20 (02:04:34):
Do you realize how mad I would have been if
I bought a box of those and I walked in like, hey, everybody,
I got cookies, and you would have been like, yep,
me too, we got them free. I'd have been like
you the morning after a bear Cat's loss.
Speaker 3 (02:04:48):
I don't want to be that. What is coming up
on the show today?
Speaker 20 (02:04:54):
You know, I've heard a couple of times over the
past twenty four hours since we were sitting in these chairs.
Yet yesterday, when the t Higgins News broke the mention
of trading Tea, I heard Paul Deaner Danner mention it.
He's going to join me today at three thirty. We're
going to talk about it a little bit better than Dan.
It's you know, I know, like Stainer Deaner, Yeah, like
(02:05:15):
Travis Deaner. Yeah, is that really on the table? Like
are you really going to go to Joe Burrow and
go we tried, Uh, you know, we said all the
right things. We we we told you we were going
to do, We do everything we could do, but uh,
actually we just traded t and uh.
Speaker 3 (02:05:35):
I hope you're okay with it?
Speaker 20 (02:05:36):
Like, is that really something that's on the table or
is it just exploring all the options? Because I just
don't see an option where you could keep your quarterback
happy if you walked in. And here's the other thing. Uh,
that Jamar Chase tweet yesterday was interesting, right.
Speaker 3 (02:05:55):
Yeah, any any tweet this time of the year is
interesting for us.
Speaker 23 (02:05:59):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:06:00):
Do you have to like management? I don't think so.
I think there has to be a level of respect.
Speaker 20 (02:06:06):
That's the the other part of that, Part two of
that question is but you do have to trust, yes, management, right, he.
Speaker 3 (02:06:12):
Had to trust that they have your best interest in mind.
Speaker 20 (02:06:15):
Do you think those guys trust this front office with
what has happened over the past two off seasons. I
think they trust Zach. I think they love Joe. Do
you think t and Jamar trust this front office?
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
I wonder as well. We talked about a little bit today.
Duke Tobin said all the right things at the combine.
Is there any but is there any of this from
Duke Tobin that he's maybe handcuffed, that he is saying
this is what we need to do, but above him
now maybe it's not getting there. Sure so, but he
does become the meat shield, if you will, for all
of this, I mean because of what he said days ago,
(02:06:49):
and then t Higgins responds with the kap emoji and
then everything that happened lowercase tag. Yeah, you got to
do work to go to the lower case tag.
Speaker 20 (02:06:58):
I mean that's you know, you gotta uncapt pedalize that
first there. I mean that that's you know, so just
the nuance of this thing. It's not as easy as
I think they're they're pretending it is on the surface.
Oh no, yeah, we we understand. We gotta we're gonna
We're gonna get this done. We're gonna get it done.
Speaker 3 (02:07:19):
Really sure.
Speaker 20 (02:07:21):
Positive Because if you were close with T, I think
we would have an extension today, we'd be talking about
T Higgins signed long term to the Bengals completely and
the word on Jamar so far not close. We're gonna
do this all summer, aren't we?
Speaker 3 (02:07:37):
I hope not. We're gonna do this all summer, aren't we? Tony?
I can't?
Speaker 20 (02:07:41):
You can?
Speaker 42 (02:07:42):
You have to?
Speaker 3 (02:07:42):
Well that's what. If we do it all summer, then
we better be getting something good from the Reds to
help ease the pain. And the question was brought up
today somebody just got picked off first. Yeah, see that's
so that's it. So this team last year was terrible
on the basis. Yeah, they gave away outs, they gave
away runs and then Terry Frank was named manager and
it was like snap of the fingers. Now they're going
(02:08:04):
to be better at that. And Austin. Austin asked a
question today, and I think it's a it's a good question.
How long into spring training do you have to see
this continue before you start to worry. They're nine games
into a thirty game spring training slate and four times
in a game.
Speaker 20 (02:08:17):
The guys that got picked off yesterday aren't exactly guys
that you've locked into, uh seeing in Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (02:08:24):
But Tony, you played baseball, correct.
Speaker 20 (02:08:27):
I've played a ton of baseball at a at a
pretty high level for youth baseball. Getting picked off is
that's lazy, that's you know, get picked off once, okay,
and if you.
Speaker 3 (02:08:39):
Do it better be after the game. Hey, we're working
on a couple of different things with our leadoffs to
put greeting the picture correct. Like it's come on, you
can't get running blunders. We've seen them get picked off.
That was an achilles heel of this team that doesn't
have a big margin for air.
Speaker 20 (02:08:54):
Yeah, there are times I don't mind. Like a guy
gets a bang bang play at home and you're you're
struggling to score runs and you're trying to like get
a guy home from second on a single, like being aggressive.
I don't mind that stuff. Getting picked off four times
four times. Yeah, it gave me because we were podcasting
(02:09:14):
last night. We have our Monday night show, the Bear
Cap Bounce Podcast, and I had the game cast on,
so I was just kind of going back and forth,
like during the show when I had a chance to
look at it, and then after the show, I'd like, Okay,
what's actually been happening?
Speaker 3 (02:09:30):
Picked off? Picked off? Picked off?
Speaker 20 (02:09:31):
Caught stealing that was picked off and the guy just
ran correct because he got picked off. Like just it's
it's unnerving, just feels hard to get.
Speaker 3 (02:09:41):
It's unnerving.
Speaker 9 (02:09:42):
It is.
Speaker 3 (02:09:43):
It's hard to do.
Speaker 20 (02:09:44):
Yeah, and to buy back into We're gonna do a
little stock up stock down. I wanted to get to
it yesterday, but the T News kind of reshuffled my
uh yeah, my my order of business, order of business,
my show sheet, if you will. So a little lock
up stock down on the reds through the first week.
In a couple of days of spring training. You saw
(02:10:06):
who's back on the college landscape, didn't you? How much
is the stock dock for Bob Diaco on the I
heard you say he did a great job your senior year.
Speaker 3 (02:10:14):
It was a little bit of sarcasm in there. I
do remember there was a fight at halftime at the
locker room of the Sugar Bowl where Diaco wanted the
offense to run the ball so because the defense was
looking he.
Speaker 20 (02:10:26):
But he does have one massive lasting legacy in college
football type pants conflict, great look conflict?
Speaker 3 (02:10:34):
Okay, you know what conflict is? Tony which tight pants
to wear the game? The biggest rivalry in college football?
Which is that Yukon and Central Florida? The conflict trophy?
That was Bob Diaco. That was his baby.
Speaker 20 (02:10:50):
He been as Yukon's head coach on making that that
a a marquee rivalry in college football.
Speaker 3 (02:10:59):
Bob Diaco in conflict. Where did he get those pants?
I don't know the kids section. Do they make them
in Carolina blue? We're gonna find out. Can't wait, what's
his job there? D line coach?
Speaker 24 (02:11:12):
What?
Speaker 3 (02:11:13):
Yeah, that's a star studded roster. That's a coaching staff
that they've put together, and they're going to regret that.
Belichick is gonna be like, what did I do with this. Yep,
they're gonna learn quickly.
Speaker 20 (02:11:24):
I almost drove off the road when you talked about
how great he was his defensive coordinator here in two
thousand and nine.
Speaker 3 (02:11:29):
Obviously, Bubble watch tonight, Ohio State Nebraska. Two bubble teams.
That's a big one for Ohio State to get, especially
because it's home. NKU starts the Horizon Tournament tonight. That's
the weird fourth and sixth and then they take a
break until next week to finish it off. But NKU locally,
dayton locally, you gotta win the conference tournament a half
to Kentucky's got a big one tonight thanks thanks to them.
(02:11:52):
We're only on until five thirty. How about that? You know,
what do you make of big the lead into LSU basketball?
Is it flying under the radar all in college hoops?
And I think there are a bunch of candidates, and
rightfully so for coach of the year. What Rick Patino's
done with Saint John's. How under the radar is pat
Kelsey flying with with Louisville. They've lost two games in
the ACC. I know the ACC is down, yeah, but
(02:12:14):
they weren't supposed to do anything from a competitive standpoint.
This year, they're top fourteenth in the country, fifteen. He
should be getting a lot of notoriety, I believe for
the job he's done in year one.
Speaker 20 (02:12:23):
Yeah, I he definitely should. But Bruce Pearl, right, there's
I guess that Kelvin Samson like he just he picked.
There are there are years that Pat Kelsey would have
been like a refront runner for college Coach of the Year,
but there's too many other storylines in front of him
with big names.
Speaker 3 (02:12:42):
But what he's done has been has been outstanding. What
do you make of what one Victor Lockin has done
this year? Good for VIC?
Speaker 20 (02:12:48):
I think, do you how much time do you guys
spend on this show talking about abou oos Main We.
Speaker 3 (02:12:53):
Would later in the week because he's playing for Oklahoma State.
Speaker 20 (02:12:57):
Okay, you think Xavier couldn't have used him to move
Zack Freemantle to the five. Look it came down this year. Uh,
he's had multiple twenty point games. He's pretty much been
the best player on Oklahoma State for stretches this year.
Speaker 3 (02:13:11):
Uh, he's been He's been really good.
Speaker 10 (02:13:14):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:13:15):
Uh, I think Vica.
Speaker 20 (02:13:18):
Look, the biggest thing for VIC is he's making threes
and you know that was the plan for him last
year and we saw a couple glimpses of it, but
he couldn't make threes to expand his game. He's much
more consistent this year. That's helped him out immensely. He
wanted to get paid his final year. Clemson was willing
to pay him good for vic real quick. And this
is crystal ball and going forward. Biggest need that UC
(02:13:40):
needs to address is it the post. It's a six
eight two and thirty five pound guy that can nor
ch had omiir JT top and yes like that right now,
but like that mold is what they need. It would
just free up their guard plays Lendenborg Tony, That's who
I will Yeah, Hindenburg, Lindenborg.
Speaker 3 (02:14:02):
Write it down. Austin twenty and ten at UAB for AK.
Let's go poach from Andy Kennedy Chad Breundle's next on
the Mowaiger Show ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station until tomorrow.
Have a great rest of your Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (02:14:47):
