Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Skyline Chile. Since he three sixty about Cincinnati
from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Skyline Chile. Stop by
Skyline Chili for a three way or cheese coney today.
Feeling good, It's Skyline time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Good afternoon, Welcome into Sincy three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. I thought we were trying to kind
of keep everything in line to what we did yesterday,
which would have meant one shining moment. But we're we're
already off trash.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Now do you want one shining moment? Too late? Now
I bring it up? Be sure? Well, maybe just let
it go for a second.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Oh man, roll the ball out, one more chance, one
more opertunity.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
To get sued for this. I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
There's nothing guaranteed, man, nothing about tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Guaranteed. We do get is today.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
The Bearcats get today. About thirty minutes from now, they'll
tip it up in Kansas City, which I'm told will
be a home game for Iowa State. Apparently this is
their thing because they're not going to win a national championship.
They all travel to the conference tournament and they blow
that place up. It's going to be incredible. What an atmosphere,
what an environment, What an opportunity today for the Cincinnati

(01:25):
Bearcats to keep their season alive for one more shining moment.
One thing is guaranteed, that is this afternoon Bearcats Cyclones
coming up at twelve thirty. I have a feeling, Austin
that the attempt to watch today's game while doing this
show will be significantly tougher than it was during yesterday's game,

(01:49):
where I struggled while the Bearcats had a double digit
lead for much of the game. But we're here, opportunity
is at hand. We'll talk about the Bearcats and the Cyclones.
In segment number two, we're talking about keys to victory.
What it's going to take from the Bearcats today to
knock off the twelfth ranked team in the country. Not

(02:13):
just the Bearcats, but locally gearing up now for what
is championship Week Tomorrow Xavier and Marquette happens. Kentucky plays
at nine thirty tomorrow night. Ohio State bubble team still
plays against Iowa tonight at six o'clock, Louisville at seven

(02:37):
tomorrow night, and Dayton in the eight ten will not
play their first game until Friday at seven thirty. But
from a local standpoint, those are the teams still vying
for an opportunity for March Madness nku is. As we
talked about last week out, these are the last hopes.

(02:58):
Kentucky is a tournament team, Louisville is a tournament team,
Dayton will probably have to win the A ten. Ohio
State's probably at least got to win tonight, and Xavier
to me is tough. Xavier to me feels like a
win and there for sure in a loss, and it
probably feels a little bit dicey up until selection Sunday.

(03:19):
But that's what we have as of right now. For today.
There is only one top twenty five team in action
in all of Championship Week today and that is Iowa State.
Everyone else waiting until tomorrow. So we'll talk college hoops
as we go. We've got Cincinnati Reds to talk about.

(03:40):
In our number three today Reds win yesterday, we'll talk
about the pitching effort, the hitting effort today's game, which
makes it thirteen thirteen more spring training games for the
Cincinnati Reds before they are here at Great American Ballpark
for Opening Day. And we Austin are at Smoke Justice
for opening days looking forward to it.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Can't wait one block, one bridge, that's all it is
from Great American Ballpark. I'm told it will be a
very very busy day over there near Smoke Justice and
can't wait for it. Man, always, always one of my
favorite shows, praying of the year, praying for good weather
on opening day. Iagine, fifteen days away, if it was

(04:20):
like it was yesterday, Oh my lord, something like that.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I'll tell you what it is supposed to be today too, right, Yes,
this weather it does something to folks.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I mean it's I don't we get in this like
winter lall for so long that I think it just
becomes normal. And then all of a sudden the clocks change.
It's light out at at eight pm and the weather
is unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
I literally won.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I did yard work yesterday and it enjoyed it. I
enjoyed it doing some yard work. It's unbelievable. This weather.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
I don't know what it is, man, but it makes
people go insane.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
Good.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
It's amazing that. Like, first of all, how do you
feel about daylight saving time? I'm out on it officially. Yeah,
i'd imagine you are with kids especially, it's brutal. Yeah,
but it's it's crazy like that first really nice day
man that you know, I took the trash out last
night and the sun had gone down and I was

(05:23):
in a T shirt and shorts and it was just fantastic. Yeah.
I always hate that.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
It feels like this type of weather though, comes and
goes so quick, right that it gets like miserably hot
or cold, Like I would take this type of weather
for months on end.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I was just telling someone that I didn't realize how
much of an effect that the weather really has on
me until that first really nice day, and you're like,
oh crap, this is what it's supposed to. Like people
joke about life is worth living again, like that's a thing,
but like it is kind of how it feels, which

(05:58):
is kind of crazy. You don't realize the seasonal depression
is a very real thing, even if, like even if
life is fine and you're not like riding about stuff,
but gosh, that first time, like last night, I was
fiending for a patio. I just wanted to sit on
a patio and smoke a cigar, you know, getting some
like redneck lawn chair type thing. I was ready to
go it.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
It like we had the conversation yesterday when I got
home because the kids, it feels like the kids have
been like pent up for years at this point. They
just want to run wild, and I'm like, let's go
to the park. And then I thought to myself, that's
the same thought that every other parent has today. So
we let them run around the backyard all day. It does.
It improves the mental in a big way. It gets

(06:41):
you excited about Red's baseball, which is right around the corner.
We will play a little audio today. I know MLB
Network was working around all of spring training. There's some
Reds audio that will get to In our number three.
I want to talk a little bit about the pitching
injuries going on across Major League Baseball and the problem
that that has become. Rich Rodriguez. Remember what he did

(07:04):
at West Virginia, Rich Rod. What do you make of
Rich Rod banning his players from doing TikTok dances?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I have no problem with that.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
Now.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
He made it clear he's not banning his players from
being on TikTok right. He said, I'm not banning that.
He said quote, I'm banning them from dancing on it.
It's like, look, we try to have a hard edge
or whatever, and you're in there and you're tights dancing
on TikTok. It's not quite the image of our program
that I want.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
I don't blame him. What good comes from a football
player dancing on TikTok? Direct it it? All it does
is provide an outlet for people to make fun of
you when you fail. Well, do you see Smith Schuster
kama Juju well I was gonna says the dance killings?
Does he do those?

Speaker 2 (07:47):
He gets crushed because of the level of play, and
he's just on TikTok dancing and doing his own thing.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
I think there's a very specific group of people that
are allowed to do TikTok dances, and it's like young women,
like that's it, like that, that's who created all that.
Let them do it. We don't need to. We don't
need professional athletes doing TikTok dances.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah, show up on time, Yeah, work hard, play your best,
don't dance on TikTok, says Rich Rodriguez.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
You know it's funny you say that. Dan Orlowski said
something today. He retweeted that you should pay the people
that show up on time, work hard, are coachable, trusted,
accept their role, help the team win, make the right plays,
and bring positive energy.

Speaker 7 (08:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Now, I think you could make the point that TikTok
dances could bring positive energy. But did they do any
of those other things? Here's the quote. Did they helped
the team win? Here's the quote that I liked the most.
He said, I'm allowed to ban it. I can have rules,
he said, twenty years from now, if they want to
be sitting in their pajamas in their basement eating Cheetos
and watching TikTok or whatever the hell, they can go

(08:55):
and do it, smoking cannabis. Whatever. Knock yourself out, rich Rod,
Come ut, why fire the Cheetos? That gets the bad rep?
Like everyone says in your underwear watch eating Cheetos? Right,
Why can't you know Cheetos are pretty good? Yeah? Can
we get something that's maybe not as good? Good point?

Speaker 8 (09:13):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Last night, the Conker Calf run is over.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Oh boy, FC Cincinnati fell at Tea Grace three to one.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Kind of got their face bashed in.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Yeah, uh, you see baseball, they did some bashing yesterday,
twelve to three in a home win over Miami.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
I saw. I don't know if you've seen Have you
seen pictures that all from that game yesterday?

Speaker 9 (09:33):
I did?

Speaker 3 (09:34):
But can unbelievable? Can I give you a stat from
FC Cincinnati real quick?

Speaker 10 (09:38):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
This is from Laurel Fay score early. FC Cincinnati has
allowed six goals in the last one and one minutes
that Pavel Buca has not played. Laurel says, could be
a coincidence, but he's clearly been impactful. Yeah, Queen City
presses Laurel Foller. Interesting. Interesting, h you said you saw

(10:00):
the pictures from Uh? I did you see baseball stadium?
That was awesome? Yeah? That type of environment is cool.
I was watching highlights to some home runs. Man.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
That the sound of the crowd, that's cool. I'm glad
that baseball is getting there.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Since both schools are too chicken to play each other
in football anymore, they should make that the battle for
the victory.

Speaker 11 (10:18):
Bell.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
I like that. Yeah, weeal the bells, keep the bell around.
Wheal the bell.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Other news last night, Sports World, How about the Cleveland
Calves Just hu Hum flying under the Radar won their
fifteenth game in a row last night.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
I believe it is the fifth best start through sixty
five games in the history of the National Basketball Association.
I don't think I could name three players on their team.
Two Bulls teams, a Warriors team, a Sixers team, and
the Caves I think are the only start better. I
know they got that Mobley guy.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
They got Mobley, and I know they got Donovan Mitchell,
and I got Darius Garland.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Okay, there we go. That's three. There's three. Unbelievable. You know,
it's fun. I heard, actually heard Dan Patrick talking about
this this morning, and they brought up a good point
that I hadn't really thought of. Everybody complains about the
style of basketball in the NBA and how it's all
threes and no defense and whatnot. The Calves don't play
that way, right. They play team basketball. They pass, they

(11:16):
move it around, they're constantly in motion when they're in
the half court. They don't chuck a bunch of threes.
They're balanced, like if you want to watch that type
of basketball. Fin the Calves are the team to watch.
But they don't get any coverage because they're in a
smaller market and they don't have this you know, drama
filled superstar or any any guy that's just they don't

(11:37):
have Stephan Curry shooting long range threes or big time
dunks or whatever it might be. And you know, that's
a bit of a shame because I hate to say
something complimentary of Cleveland, but you know, they are a
good basketball team that plays it the way that people
want it to be played.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Isn't that kind of the way Oklahoma City plays it?
Team oriented? Yeah, they have a they get talked about more.
But to your point, the markets, that was the conversation
and we laughed at it on Monday. That's essentially what
Charles Barkley was criticizing ESPN and Kendrick Perkins for Yep,
you got the Cleveland canval Leers who are unbelievable, the

(12:13):
Oklahoma City thunder unbelievable, and all we talked about is
the Lakers and the Warriors. Yeah, all right, all right, Charles.
Also last night, you want to talk about living out
a childhood dream. If you grew up playing basketball or
shooting basketball, how many times were you out in the
driveway counting down the clock down three and you hit
a three pointer and get fouled, You make the foul shot,

(12:34):
you win. That was Tyrese Halliburton living it out in
real time.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Last night unreal, and he was banged up before the game, unbelievable,
and did the Damian Lillard Dame Time celebration afterwards to
rub it in the face of Damian Lillard in the
Milwaukee Bucks.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Yeah, said, they essentially ran a football play, first time
they ever ran the place in training camp.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Two years ago. I thought about that. If you watch
from the very beginning, they're basically in a in a
diamond formation and they run a football play and Halliburton
has kind of the inside slant takes it boom.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Right to the corner. I don't make it over. Yannis
doesn't happen more makes it over Jannis Antoto Kompo. Yes,
I just wanted to say Antono Goompo dominated that.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
What's that?

Speaker 6 (13:19):
Dude?

Speaker 3 (13:19):
They used to coach for.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Navy ken Ney and Matalolo, So you're thinking, that's right,
that's right. Let a start. We'll recap what's going on
in the NFL as well. We have James Rapine, who's
going to join us at one o'clock today. Yes, uh,
some folks think that it's an important day to get
a T. Higgins deal done. We'll discuss why or why not.

(13:41):
We do have some audio from Paul Danner Junr with
Paul Danner Junior with Moeger from yesterday. Austin, you brought
up a question that we'll get to today from a
pro day slash scouting department standpoint, as it relates to
the Cincinnati Bengals. I want to rank the AFC contender.
Speaking to the AFC DeAndre Hopkins joined the Baltimore Ravens.

(14:01):
Kenneth Gainwell, who I think is an under the radar signing.
I think he's a talented running back. He goes to
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Larry Ogunjobi and Joey Bosa both to
the Bills on the same day.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
That is a big pickup for the Buffalo Bills. I
think altogether about twenty two million dollars for those two players.
You have to take that in a heart and beat
at least I would, so yeah, I was a little
disappointed that the Bengals were in on either one of
those guys, just because you need dudes that can rush
the passer correct.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Also, also, Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones have both restructured
their contracts. They have freed up forty nine point four
million dollars in salary cap space. A source told ESPN's
Field Yates earlier this morning.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Baltimore Ravens a couple pieces of news for them. They
have signed DeAndre Hopkins to a one year deal, which
was a big deal about ten years ago and just
coming down as we started the show today. Michael Pierce,
they're three hundred and fifty five pound defensive tackle, has
announced his retirement from the game of football. If you remember,

(15:10):
Michael Pierce was the big fella who intercepted that pass
at the last minute against the Cleveland Browns this year
and took that hilarious knee. He was the heaviest player
in the NFL to record an interception since the year
two thousand and He calls it a career today, Michael

(15:31):
Pierce of the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Shout out to Michael Pierce. We also got news yesterday
of compensatory draft picks. The Cowboys, the Dolphins, and those
Baltimore Ravens you just mentioned each awarded four compensatory draft picks.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
That's what happens when you let players leave, you get
draft picks. Well, the Bengals haven't really let anybody leave,
so they don't get compensatory picks. The NFL. Also today,
Tone announced the performance pace, the performance based pay distributions
for twenty twenty four, meaning players that kind of outplayed
the amount of money that they were getting. Cordell Volson

(16:10):
gets won a nine and thirty one thousand dollars bonus.
What for Cordel Volson? What this really has to do
mainly with the amount of time playing, Okay, for Cordell
Volson in exchange for you know, where he was drafted
and what he was being played or what he's being paid.
Wheer we haven't signed a guard, we got one in
the building. There were five players that got over a

(16:32):
million dollar bonus. Matt Pryor of the Chicago Bears, Daniel
Fallele of the Baltimore Ravens, Michael Jackson of the Carolina Panthers,
Jalen Jones from Indianapolis, and Jamie and Sherwood of the
Jets had the biggest at just under one point one
million dollars. Other Bengals to get a little bit of
a pay bump Andre Josi Vash as.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Well, Okay, shout out as well to the Cinderella Slipper.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
And today Tom Today at four o'clock Eastern is the
NFL New League year, So get your champagne.

Speaker 6 (17:11):
Yeh.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
We're gonna play old laying sign here in a little
bit and celebrate the new league year. And before we
do that, Tone, I gotta, I gotta give our our
poll question today. Please our Revive Fitness Systems dot com
now poll question presented by PJ Street and Revive fitnessystem
dot com. Listen. Memorial Days coming up, so don't put
off any longer. Don't put it off to the pool.

(17:32):
We're going to do this. Yep, yep, yep. Playing a
three on three tournament. You want to rip it? Take
the shart off. You wanted everything to be the same
as yesterday. Well I've done it again. Who you got
bear Cats plus eight and a half, Cyclones minus eight
and a half? Right now, Tone, with two hours to
go and the game starts in ten minutes. Fifty two

(17:53):
percent you're smart? Wait to vote, say Cyclones minus eight
and a half. Okay, they are gonna cut the eight
and a half. Is what fifty two people say and
a couple believers. Ga PJ weighed in on Twitter at
PJ Street said he took the alternate spread. Bearcats plus
seventeen and a half. Okay, okay, PJ could be a
smart investor. Okay.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
PJ also shout out to what was a Cinderella run
that came up just short.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Last night.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
UNC Wilmington knocks off Delaware seventy six seventy two, ending
the hope of the Delaware Blue Hens to go five
games in five days to get to the NCAA Tournament,
which means Austin, that door is now open for another
team to complete the.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Five for five.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
In the NCAA Tournament. We'll take a break, we'll come back.
You're unbelievable. We're gonna describe, we'll go through today's matchup
what the Cincinnati Bearcats need to do to win, and
then once the game tips off, will be all Cincinnati
Bengals and James Rapine will join us at one o'clock
as well. We'll take your phone calls thirty at centy
three to sixty thanks the Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen

(19:04):
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 6 (19:09):
Facers down three.

Speaker 9 (19:11):
Halliburton's got the ball.

Speaker 6 (19:13):
Calliverton rises up.

Speaker 7 (19:17):
My goodness, Tyres, Halliburton hits a three.

Speaker 6 (19:23):
Head is found.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
You have got to be kidding me. This is almost
like the squad option in football. They had four offensive
players in the back course and Tyre's Halliburton coming off
the screen here.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
And right in the grill of Giannis and right in
front of.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
Damian Lillard who's on the bench right now, with a
chance for a four point play. You don't understand the
degree of difficulty on this shot.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
That is how it sounded last night, the Tyrese Haliburton
four point play to beat the Milwaukee Bucks. Also pretty
cool having Reggie Miller on that call.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yeah, Brian Anderson, Reggie Miller on the call that was
TNT last night. Pacers beat the Bucks in Indy. The
Pacers in their City Connect uniforms or City Edition uniforms
that they were wearing last night, twenty seven and seven
in those uniforms over the last two years. Are Indian
about that? We also have a new tweet from a

(20:33):
Bengal Tony Are you ready for this? I can't wait.
Marco Wilson chimes in, my best ball is ahead of me.
I know it, and I trust God, Cincinnati. I'm gonna
play my heart out for this city. Marco Wilson, no
cap and then woday exclamation point tiger emoji. No cap,

(20:55):
no cap, no cap.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
All right, it is eight minutes to tip here in
Kansas City, and to dive into this game, Austin, Sometimes
what you gotta do is you got to go back
a little bit. So I did.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
In order to move forward, you must first go back.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
I went back to February fifteenth, that game against Iowa State.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
U S went on the road.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
They played well, thirty nine thirty nine at halftime, They
raced a double digit deficit early, they tied it to half,
They held a lead in the second half, and then
the refs interfered and the rest would not allow UC
to win that game. Yeah, I'll be that person. It
was one of the most poorly officiated games I can remember.
The foul total ended up being twenty four to thirteen.

(21:43):
Listen to this, Austin. In the game that Iowa State
one by eleven, they attempted thirty free throws to u
s's eleven. They outscored u SE twenty six to nine.
On the foul line, they out rebounded UC thirty seven
to nineteen. So the rebounding margin has to be much
much closer. The refs have to call things ideally, evenly.

(22:09):
You can't have a nineteen free throw disparity in free
throw shot at the foul line from eleven to thirty.
You can't have an eleven foul difference from both teams.
It was a game in which Dylan Mitchell just played
twenty five minutes because he found out Gigsel James was
hampered with foul trouble the whole game. Dayde Thomas had
four Every vital member of that Bearcats team sat for

(22:34):
much of that game because of fouls. Now, yesterday, Gigsel
James and Simas Lucas's combined to make two field goals.
You will not have a chance to win today without that.
But in that first go round, Dan Skillings did not
make a basket. He had one point. Josh Reed had
six points, Tyler Betsy just two. They got nine bench

(22:56):
points in the game. Dylan Mitchell was held to four,
Lucasis just nine. In my opinion, In my opinion, they
need Gisel James and Simas Lucasis if they want a
chance to go win this game. It is if you've
ever followed along Iowa State travels unbelievably to these tournaments,

(23:21):
it is going to be about ninety percent Iowa State fans.
It's going to be a true road game for the
Cincinnati Bearcats. But if they can find a little bit
of that confidence, find that shooting stroke that they had yesterday,
maybe maybe they can apply some pressure in the second half.
That's the name of it for me. Keep it within
striking distance, keep it within a game at half, make

(23:43):
a run in the second half, and put the pressure
on Iowa State. One more opportunity to live to see
another game. That's what the Bearcats get. In just a
couple of minutes. We'll take a break in just a
couple of minutes before that will up the phone lines
for the first time today, Mike is calling in.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
What's up? Mike?

Speaker 12 (24:03):
No, Mike, you hear me?

Speaker 13 (24:06):
Okay, I'm for you.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Gotta take us off speaker if you can, Mike.

Speaker 6 (24:11):
Okay, I'm sorry, guys.

Speaker 12 (24:14):
I thought i'd be on the hole a little longer
than Okay.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
There he goes a better fatter what's on your mind?

Speaker 12 (24:21):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (24:21):
My bad.

Speaker 12 (24:24):
So Gonzaga wins their twenty sixth consecutive conference championship last night.
That's unbelieved. They tied a record. I forget the team
that they tied, but you know, Mark, they were nothing
until Mark you got there.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Yeah, never heard of him hand.

Speaker 12 (24:38):
No, you know who played there?

Speaker 14 (24:41):
Was?

Speaker 12 (24:42):
Well, Stockton played there, didn't he?

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Yes?

Speaker 12 (24:44):
I think Stockton played there, and there might have been
that quarterback Jim Zorn might have played there. No, No,
he went to samueluis Obisto. But anyway to today's game.
I'm excited now because I've hoped the ghost of Cincinnati
head coach to win an NCAA championship two as a

(25:05):
matter of fact, and almost a third. So the ghost
is gonna be there. We got to root them Cats, Tony,
and we're gonna pull one out of our heine today
and that's all I got.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
Go Cat.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
I love it, Mike, thank you. I appreciate that. Thank
you for the call. I love that energy from Mike today.

Speaker 13 (25:21):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
By the way, at Gonzaga win last night. A little
bit different this go around because they beat Saint Mary's
the Gaels, who are also a very good team, but
Saint mary swept the regular season series against Gonzaga, so
Gonzaga gets back on it last night. They have punched
their ticket as an NCAA tournament team in the West

(25:43):
Coast Conference again under Mark few It essentially at this
point becomes wash rintz repeat for what Mark Fu is
able to do. We are just about underway from Kansas City,
U See Iowa State Team Mobile Center, whereas right now
Austin tickets still available as low as two dollars online.

(26:05):
I bet you could still get in if you want
to make the trip. I bet your final thought, do
the Bearcouts have a chance today?

Speaker 12 (26:15):
No?

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Okay, why not? They're not good? Well they were good yesterday,
Yeah that was yesterday.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
They haven't proven to be able to win games like
this all year long, so why should they do it now?
That's true. I want to be wrong, but I'd like
to be wrong.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
I would just like them to keep it within striking
distance by the half.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Just let's just be honest. You want them to score
more points than the other team at the end of
the game. That's what it's all about it, Yes, but
cares about striking distance at the half? But I think
you and how you feel. No, but for in game pressure,
which is a real thing. I always stayed as supposed
to win this game by nine or more. If this
is a battle at halftime, you start gaining confidence as

(26:57):
a player. That confidence may be eaves from an opponent standpoint,
and the longer you stay within it, the more it
pushes that other team to the brink. That's how Iowa
State's playing. And I know this because I'm thinking back
to the AAC days when you see was that team
where it was. You've got to put this team away
early because you don't want someone hanging around. You see
needs to be the team that hangs around in this

(27:19):
one to give themselves a chance. I do know, I
believe and I saw this. I was following along with
with Keegan nickoson Keisha and Gilbert, who missed the last game.
Their guard for Iowa State was in uniform and was
warming up pregame, so that would obviously be a lyft

(27:40):
for Iowa State. Quite frankly, I don't know why he's playing.
Make sure he's healthy for the NCAA tournament, but it
does look, at least for this point that Gilbert is
going to play for Iowa State. The players are being
introduced in Kansas City. We're going to take a break.
When we come back.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
I'd like to take a moment and recap everything that
happened yesterday with the Cincinnati Bengals and more around the NFL.
It's since he three sixty on ESPN fifteen to thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of Skyline Chile.

Speaker 15 (28:09):
Man, don't let your New Year fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
I just saw something I don't think I've ever seen
on a basketball court. IoT this already? Man does these bandego.
I don't think the Bearcats have gotten the ball inside
a three point line on offense, but has these bandego
just dribbled the ball into the floor and just like
stopped it there. Yep, And that's a double dribble basically listen,
and then he just missed a lob. Oh my gosh,

(28:42):
Bearcats may not score twenty Oh.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
My gosh, man three on one fast break miss lob.
Iowa State is doing what I would do if I
were any team that played the Bearcats. Anytime asz sets
a screen, they just jumped the screen because you can't
pass it to a Zaz and expect him to dribble
at all to go to the basket. This is going
to be a brutal viewing experience right now because they've

(29:07):
blown some opportunities here with with some early turnovers from
Iowa State, who won't turn the ball over much already
getting hammered on the foul calls, which I expected to happen.
Let's switch gears. Let's talk a little Cincinnati Bengals here, Austin,
may we for the next few moments. What I'd like
to do is take a second here as we recap

(29:29):
quickly the UC or the the Cincinnati Bengals free agency
moves from yesterday.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Perfect.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
There we have it. That is what the Bengals were
able to accomplish yesterday. Just it's a quick rundown for
you of everything that you may have missed between now
and then as as where things stand with the sentence
Cincinnati Bengals right now.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
You were so excited about that this morning. I wanted
a minute. You wanted a minute. I can't do I
can't do that, you know, I can't. We have every
alarm bell in this room, in this floor going off
if we were off air for a minute. YEP, I
like it, though. Nothing, that's the answer. How many people
just like pick up their phone or yeah, try to

(30:29):
turn up their radio. Nothing.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
The answer is nothing has been done uh so far
as it relates to UH, the Cincinnati Bengals and free
agency nothing falling as well for the Cincinnati Bearcats, as
they're down seven to two early in Kansas City. But
like I said, keep it closer early.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
But there are rumors out there about the Bengals being
involved in one of the top free agents available yes
which is Tevin Jenkins.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah what now, I saw you put this on on
social media yesterday. What are your thoughts on Tevin Jenks?

Speaker 3 (31:03):
So I had known that there were like some issues
with Tevin Jenkins early in his career. There was some
wonder about how much he loves football, and about some
back injuries and how much he was really pushing to
get through them. And just like what was described by
Greg Gabriel, the former NFL scout for a long time
and who wrote for Wendy City Gridiron on s B Nation,

(31:28):
that there were concerns about Tevin Jenkins' football character, not
his character as a human being, but his football character,
his work ethic, his ability to stay healthy, how badly
he wants to be great, and so on, And so
there were some rough moments early on in Chicago. Come
to find out, there was a lot of stuff going
on Chicago, and they've moved on in a lot of
different ways a little bit more success. But I've always

(31:51):
remembered that, brought that back. Posted the article on my
Twitter if you want to check it out. But I'm
not saying the Bengals shouldn't go after him. I'm saying
proceed with caution. Sure when it comes to Tevin Jenkins,
you're saying, do your homework. Do your homework. And also,
ever since then, he's been pretty good. And this was
all primarily with him trying to play left tackle. He's

(32:15):
found a home at guard and been a much more
productive player as a guard. So how much of this matters,
I don't know, but it is an experience that was
had with Tevin Jiggins in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
And it's been an experience that the Bengals have come
on the wrong end of in recent years of some
of the players that they've gone after. So that is
it's a that's a fair criticism and fair to wonder
about that at some point, So that is something to
be seen. There was also a point made, and I

(32:48):
think this is an interesting one. Kentucky Pro Day was yesterday,
Georgia Pro Day is happening today.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
In Iowa State Pro Day today as well.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Yeah, we've had conversations about the scouting department and the
size of the scouting department and the employees in the
scouting department for the Cincinnati Bengals, and I think at
times a lot of that has maybe overblown. I don't
think it a lot. At times it matters as much

(33:21):
you had made this point earlier. This is the time
of the year where I think it could matter because
you're in the middle of the free agency period. You're
trying to or at least hopefully trying to get deals
done with t Higgins and Jamar Chase and maybe Trey Henderson.
At this point, you're trying to evaluate talent that you
want to bring in as a free agent. And at
the same time, this is a pivotal draft class for

(33:44):
the Cincinnati Bengals that they have to hit on. You
can't be everywhere at once. Yeah, And with the I
guess the impactfulness of the combine not being what it
once was, it puts more of an emphasis on pro days,
And so when you have a smaller scouting department, you're
pulled in more directions during this time of the year

(34:05):
with pro days, while at the same time you've got
free agency to evaluate and ideally you're having conversations with
agents and inside the building as well on contracts that
need to be get done. This puts even more on
Duke Tobin's plate, puts more on the scouting department, and
I think is a fair concern or criticism going into
this part of the year.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
I guess this has always been a thing, but not
something I've thought about that much until recently in trying
to figure out and wonder just how much power does
Duke Tobin actually have when it comes to negotiating. Can
he say, hey, these are the players that we want,
and then it just goes to Katie to try to
negotiate the deals and if they get him, they get him.

(34:48):
If they don't, they don't. It's not to say that
Duke can't be, you know, working from various places and
have impact. I mean, negotiations take a long time, and
there's phones and there's waiting and it goes back and forth.
But it does think it does make me think, Okay,
this could be the time where they're stretched a little
bit thin. They're trying to get these guys in the building.

(35:08):
They're also trying to evaluate the talent at these pro
days across the country and then they're gonna fly guys
in for visits and all this other stuff. Again, would
like to have all this stuff buttoned up by now,
be more active earlier on. And I don't know if
it really has that much of an effect, but when
I wonder just how much power and just how much

(35:31):
Duke Tobin is involved in the negotiating process. Sure, this
is something that I thought about. And also, can you
adequately scout these players and get to know these players
and talk to all the people you need to get
to do you need to talk to about them if
you're worried and working on free agent deals the entire time,
And this is something a lot of teams are working

(35:53):
on this. I mean there's GMS at every Pro day
and they're also working on free agency. It was just
a thought I had.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
It also it I think it it magnifies a little
bit how different the scouting combine is now because it
it was more emphasis on Indy, less emphasis on the
Pro days. Now it feels like that's switched, which requires
you to be more places, which requires more of your time,
and in an off season where your evaluation can't miss

(36:24):
on free agents or draft picks, it does feel like
you could be put behind the eight ball just a
little bit. Let's take ourselves a break. When we come back,
we'll wrap up our number one. We'll turn it to
James R. Pene, who's going to join us to start
our number two. Since he three sixty on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, the service of our good friends
at Skyline, Chile.

Speaker 16 (36:45):
Don't you say in fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Welcome back?

Speaker 2 (36:58):
Since E three to sixty ES fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Things already getting dicey in Kansas City, as East Bandego
already two fouls within the first seven minutes of the game,
and Wes Miller's going back to him, So going to
be very interesting to watch going forward, as they did
get a good sign here Simas Lukashis did just make

(37:20):
a three pointer, which is a site for sore eyes.
And the Cincinnati Bearcats have it at fourteen to eight
right now as they trail Iowa State early in the
first half. Oh well, never mind fourteen eleven, thank you.
Good run out of the time out there for the

(37:42):
Cincinnati Bengals AFC contenders. Austin kind of went around the
horn here a little bit today of what other teams
have done. DeAndre Hopkins as a Raven, Kenneth Gainwell as
a Steeler, Larry Ogin Joby and Joey Bosa are both
Buffalo Bills, and Rick Mahomes and I'm watching Chris Jones. Yeah,

(38:07):
I know, I was looking at what happened in the game.
Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes both restructured their current contracts,
and that's kind of the AFC wrap up right now.
I was so mad because the Bearcats gave up a
offensive rebound which led to a three for Iowa State.
From an AFC standpoint, though, Austin, I know this is
early in the offseason and both these teams still have

(38:31):
a lot to do and really a lot to take
care of. But from a contender standpoint, I don't think
we're there yet in naming at least, I don't think
we're there yet in naming the Raiders a contender, although
they're taking steps in the right direction.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
Would you agree with that? Yeah, I mean, I think
their defense is going backwards. A lot of the things
that I was bullish on about the Raiders. They've lost
some of those players this year in free agency. They
haven't kept around so I'm curious to see how that
defense is going to look. But you feel a lot
more stable with Pete Carroll, with Gino Smith and kind

(39:09):
of that whole staff and getting rid of some players,
and you just feel like it's they're in a better
position moving forward. But I don't know that you would
call them a contender.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
The Denver Broncos good step last year, quiet offseason, so far,
are they on your contender list?

Speaker 6 (39:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (39:26):
I would think so. I mean, you always expect a
player to have, you know, a bit of a what
do you call that sophomore slump if you're bow Knicks. Sure,
but they still have the defensive player of the Year
and Patrick Surtan. They've got a really good defense and
quality weapons. I think they'll be a really fascinating team

(39:47):
to watch in the draft what they do to surround
bow Knicks. And yeah, they had a really good season
last year. I think exceeded expectations, so you have to
take them seriously moving forward.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Kansas City is still going to be a contender. I
think the Chargers another year under Harball and finding their identity,
I think they'll be more of a contender this year
in the AFC South. I don't know what to make
of the Colts, Jaguars or Tennessee Titans at this point.
I don't think the stock in Houston is as high
as maybe we thought it was.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
But I'm not going to be all in on the
Titans this year like I was last year.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
No, that was not a good move, but I will
say I'll give it. I'll say Texans out of the
South at this point. In the North, Baltimore, Cincinnati both contenders.
I don't think Cleveland's a I do think Pittsburgh with
the moves they made, if they get Aaron Rodgers, they
are a contender. And then in the AFC East it's
the Buffalo Bills with what they've done. Anyone else in

(40:45):
the East for you, Miami, New England or the Jets
not really. So if we just go by that Buffalo,
you would assume New England will be better. Sure, I'm
but contending. I don't think they're there yet. Buffalo, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Houston, Denver,
Kansas City, Los Angeles Chargers. That's eight right there. And
as we do find in different years, Austin there is

(41:05):
another team that may be quiet right now that emerges
as a contender. But as we sit here today, that's
eight contenders for seven spots. What the Bengals may between
now and the season to make sure that they're on
the right side here.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Maybe that other team in the AFC is the Miami offense.
Maybe just because they do have a ton of talent
and Tyreek Hill is still there and Mike McDaniel offensively
can come up with a lot of different stuff. But yeah,
this is like you look at the way that those
other teams have been active in free agency, Buffalo continues
to build up their offensive and defensive lines. Derek Forrest

(41:43):
they just added and they just added Derek Forrest, the
former bear Cat. They are a team and got ahead
of the Josh Allen signing. They re signed to mar Hamlin.
They are making small but impactful additions, it seems like,
and not being afraid to spend maybe a little bit
extra for a veteran pass rusher in Joey Bosa, a

(42:04):
little bit extra for a veteran pass rusher in Larry Ogan,
Joby Baltimore. It feels like they do this every year.
They make one or two signings and they normally end
up having a huge impact. Like obviously Derrick Henry is
a huge deal. But in the past they've kind of
made these signs that I think are almost comparable to
what the Bengals do. Sure, and then they end up

(42:25):
being a massive part of this the team moving forward. Pittsburgh,
it's all dependent on whether or not they get a
quarterback that is functional. Is Aaron Rodgers gonna be that guy?
I don't know. It's hard to tell Cleveland the same way,
Like what is who's gonna be that bridge quarterback for them?
And are they gonna go with a quarterback at the

(42:47):
top of the draft or are they gonna get a
playmaker for whoever that bridge player might be. I don't know.
There's just so many unknowns in the AFC, it seems,
except for Kansas City and except for Buffalo. So if
you're the Bengals, how do you create separation between yourself
and all those other teams? Houston it feels like maybe

(43:08):
has taken a step back, especially with their offensive line. Pittsburgh,
as we mentioned, huge quarterback question, Baltimore about the same
and the Chargers you expect to take a step forward.
So how can you get like create any separation there
in the AFC?

Speaker 2 (43:25):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to watch real quick bills.
We talked about the moves they made. They were able
to do so because they restructured at Oliver's contracts, saved
about ten million in cap space and a couple names
here to list austin of players that are currently still
available for a free agent class. Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen,

(43:48):
Amari Cooper, Brandon Cooks, Tyler Lockett, Jamis Winston, Russell Wilson
at the quarterback position, Von Miller, Matthew Judon, DeMarcus Lawrence,
Zadarias Smith, Evan Ingram at tight end, offensive tackle, Cam Robinson, tackle,
Tyron Smith, Jedrick Wills, Junior Kendall Fooler, Stefan Gilmour, and
Justin Simmons in terms, just to name a few.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
In terms of positions of need for the Bengals, Kevin Zeitler,
Kalaias Campbell, Tevin Jenkins, Draymond Jones, DeMarcus Lawrence, You mentioned
Cam Robinson, Brandon Shirf Mackai Beckton, who I thought they'd
be kicking the tires on. I think he visited the
Bengals last year during free agency. So there are still

(44:29):
some guys that you can add and you'd be like, okay,
that helps this room a little bit.

Speaker 2 (44:33):
Yeah, let's get a break. We got James Rapine coming up.
Things going from bad to worst early in Kansas City
for the Cincinnati Bearcats. They trail now twenty to eleven.
They've already turned it over five times. You're not going
to win any game turning it over five times every
ten minutes. They'll have to clean that up when we
come back. James Repine all over the Bengals coverage will

(44:55):
join us next. Since he three to sixty thanks to
Skyline Chile on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 17 (45:01):
WCKY, Cincinnati, make us the number one pre set on
your car radio and on the free, new and improved
iHeartRadio ad Free never sounded so good, ESPN fifteen.

Speaker 18 (45:11):
Thirty, Rocky Year to celebrate their forty seven years in business,
My Buddies.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
A Vergency shirts since e three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in part by Cinci Shirts, Cinci Shirts, All Cinci
All Day. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Good Afternoon, Welcome back our two since e three sixty
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thank you to
our friends at Cincy Shirts. We have been mostly all Bengals,
all NFL up to this point. Bearcats do trail right
now at the under eight timeout twenty two to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (45:54):
It's not fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
It's not an enjoyable watch right now for the Cincinnati Bearcats.
So we continue to switch gears. We talk more Cincinnati Bengals,
Bengals talk s I Cincinnati Bengals talk. He also talks
about the Reds. He talks about the Bearcats. Uh, pretty
much anything that you want to know about what's going
on with sports locally. He is your best bet. It's

(46:17):
James Rpene joining us right now. Hi, James, I'm great, James.

Speaker 3 (46:23):
How are you.

Speaker 19 (46:26):
Better than the Bearcats or Bengals?

Speaker 2 (46:28):
But we're throwing them both in the same in the
same sentence together. That's a dangerous spot to be in
right now. Tell me your immediate thoughts as we are
now two full days into the free agency period. We
know what four o'clock today means. Uh, what is your
reaction to what or what they have not done to

(46:50):
this point as it relates to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 19 (46:54):
Yeah, I think the biggest thing is the fact that.

Speaker 6 (46:59):
They they're in limbo with Trey. Nothing's gotten done with Tea.

Speaker 19 (47:04):
I wasn't really expecting Jamar to.

Speaker 6 (47:05):
Be done by now.

Speaker 19 (47:06):
And that's fine, justin Jefferson got done last Yune, Like,
that's fine, But these other two, Like if you would
have told me at the combine that you'd be in
this position now on March twelve, it's like, all right, well, guys,
get this stuff done so you can add.

Speaker 6 (47:23):
These role players.

Speaker 19 (47:24):
I like all the guys for the most part that
they've added. I think it makes sense.

Speaker 6 (47:29):
I think TJ.

Speaker 19 (47:29):
Slayton comes in and gives you something you didn't have
last year.

Speaker 6 (47:32):
I think BJ Hill.

Speaker 19 (47:34):
Raises that the floor of your defensive line and is
a solid starting tackle.

Speaker 6 (47:41):
And yet you look at it.

Speaker 19 (47:42):
And it's like, well, with all the the uncertainty with
the T Higgins, the uncertainty with the Trey Hendrickson, it
makes it tough. And then you you couple that with
no guards at this point. And I know they're working
on it, but I get why people are restless.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
Put it that way, I guess it almost feels like
it's reverse in the way I thought it was going
to happen. You get the big deals done and then
you realize, here's how much money we have. Now, let's
go attack and fill those voids. And to your point,
I think they have filled the voids with some moves
individually that you say, Okay, I can buy into that.
And yet at the same time, let's start on the
defensive side of the ball. This defense is currently outside

(48:23):
of Orin Berks and TJ. Slayton. They're no better at
getting after the passer, which you have to do in
the NFL. And it's not that different from the defense
that finished the year with the Cincinnati Bengals, which wasn't
good enough in the first place. So I just I
don't know how the confidence sits watching where the defense
is on March twelfth.

Speaker 19 (48:44):
Yeah, I think the pass rusher elements. That's what makes
the BJ Hill signing a tough one and not it
really doesn't have anything to do with BJ Hill. Like,
I get why they did it, but you need a
true pass rusher, and I'm not sure on the interior
how they do that. If they're committed to McKinley, Jackson

(49:04):
and Chris Jenkins and they're looking at it as those
four guys plus potentially a graph pick.

Speaker 6 (49:09):
I know what I would do.

Speaker 19 (49:10):
I would say, numbers be damned. I'm signing one because
I want to get after opposed quarterbacks.

Speaker 6 (49:16):
And if you look up and.

Speaker 19 (49:18):
In September you have too many guys, that's a hell
of a lot better than having none enough. Yeah, And
so I would have tried to and I still would
be trying to sign a three tech that could come
in and give them a little gouice. And Maliite Collins
would probably be the guy that I would target.

Speaker 6 (49:34):
Now he's purely a pass rusher.

Speaker 19 (49:36):
He's not going to give you much against the run,
so that would be a concern.

Speaker 6 (49:40):
But there aren't.

Speaker 19 (49:41):
A lot of guys out there, and so they're gonna
probably look to the draft for that.

Speaker 6 (49:44):
But I agree with you.

Speaker 19 (49:45):
I think when you look at this defense, they're gonna
run it back with Gino. Stone certainly feel certain now
they're going to use and lean on these young corners.
And so you're talking about a new linebacker or two,
a few new defensive linemen, one more multiple are going.

Speaker 6 (50:05):
To be rookies.

Speaker 19 (50:06):
That's a tough ask, especially with Trey and Limbo. And
I think that's what's really tough here. You can sell
me on the al golden and new coaching staff is
going to make things somewhat better.

Speaker 6 (50:16):
But they didn't have enough.

Speaker 3 (50:17):
Talent last year.

Speaker 19 (50:18):
Let's not pretend they did, and so that has to
change as well. And right now they haven't added enough.

Speaker 2 (50:23):
Talent on the offensive side of the ball. We've heard,
at least in the last twenty four hours the name
Tevin Jenkins from a guard standpoint for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Does that name help enough for what this team needs
to get done?

Speaker 6 (50:39):
Yeah? Absolutely.

Speaker 19 (50:40):
I would be in on Tevin Jenkins all day long.
I think he's the ideal fit at guard, and I
would plug him in at left guard because I think
that there are some right guards that you can add
that are significant upgrades, that might be a little older,
that might not be long term options, but that can
certainly help you.

Speaker 6 (51:00):
In twenty twenty five.

Speaker 19 (51:01):
And if you do that, if you go get a
Tevin Jenkins, and I think that there's a chance they
get them. They're battling the Giants and Seahawks for him
right now, and who knows, You never know what other
teams are lingering for his services. But if you can
get him and then, and this is why I always
want more Tony. It's one of those things. I think
their plan is to add one guard. They should add

(51:23):
two starting guards, because then if things don't go their
way in the draft, well that's okay. You don't need
to force it. You don't need to take a guard.
You don't feel the need to go that route if
it's not there and the board doesn't match. So I
would sign two starting guards and have your starting offensive
line set this week. I mean I'd be moving on

(51:43):
it quickly. And if they did do that, I think
it would solve.

Speaker 6 (51:48):
And put the.

Speaker 19 (51:49):
Ease the minds of people that are concerned about the
offense because the guard position has cost them every year
of Joe Burrow's career and until they go in another
to fix it. And I don't think it's just one
guy away. I think it's multiple and probably a draft pick,
but you at least want to get multiple guys that
can start alongside Ted, Kris, Orlando Brown Junior and ma

(52:11):
Marius Mems.

Speaker 2 (52:12):
The Borough aspect to this is that something you worry about,
because he was very open about what his thoughts were
that this team needed to get done and how they
needed to address this and the fact that they have
been quiet to this point, along with not addressing Tea
and Jamar and the offensive line. Do you find yourself

(52:33):
at a point worrying about how this portrays to Joe Burrow?

Speaker 6 (52:39):
How can you not?

Speaker 19 (52:40):
I think that's the biggest element here, because if you're
saying and I thought they would, I was clearly led
it in the wrong direction. But I thought they'd have
at least one of these done, probably two, but certainly one.
I thought he would be done by now, and he
should be done by now. And so if you're Joe Burrow,
you're looking at this and I'm sure he's patient, but

(53:05):
I was thinking about it when he was working out
in Ohio State and that photo emerging, like what's really
going on in his mind right now as they do this?
Because if they had the big contracts done, let's just
say Team Trey are done. Everything they've done up to
this point makes sense. You're not that worried about guard Obviously,
there's plenty of guards left. They can figure that out.

(53:26):
And instead you have the weight of these stars hanging
on your shoulders, and it's hard to find stars, even
if it's a thirty year old pass usher and Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 6 (53:36):
But look look at this free agent class. It went quick.

Speaker 19 (53:40):
I really don't know how they improve their pass rush
significantly unless they just hit grand slams in the draft
without retaining Trey. So I think that's that's what Joe's
probably thinking, is like, all right, we're.

Speaker 6 (53:52):
Trying to win.

Speaker 19 (53:53):
Now, get these guys done, add a couple of guards
and let's roll and we'll see if they do that.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
What benefit does does it have to t Higgins camp
to negotiate right now?

Speaker 19 (54:06):
I mean during a long term deal, I don't know.
I mean, the market's pretty much set that DK Metcalf deal,
and that's already stretching it anyway. Like DK Metcalf has
been healthier than te similar age certainly more more accolades,
more established. I just don't know why. What's the point

(54:27):
in waiting. It's not like Jamar where any deal, any
position is going to up his value. For Tea. I mean,
I think we pretty much know it's probably probably going
to be right around that thirty million dollars per year mark.
And obviously it's something that's the Bengals say they want
to get done. And if your Tea I don't know
why it would benefit you to wait. Do you think

(54:49):
that there's a benefit of waiting, Austen.

Speaker 3 (54:52):
Well, you you pointed it out the market, but now
it's basically going to be set. But is it I
just wonder is it something towards just kind of sticking
it to the Bengals a little bit and kind of
embarrassing them. I think I will say this, and especially
because it's the same guy that's negotiating with Jamar Chase.

Speaker 6 (55:15):
Sure, and so this is twofold here.

Speaker 19 (55:19):
This has nothing to do with defending the Bengals.

Speaker 20 (55:23):
Uh.

Speaker 19 (55:23):
It's one of those things where actually.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
Hold on one second, guy, Oh oh, do we have
breaking news?

Speaker 19 (55:30):
Is this?

Speaker 3 (55:30):
Like Chefty right up? Amazing? If we did, this is amazing.
It sounded like he was out of breath. He might
be on a walk. You think he is walking? I
hope he's.

Speaker 19 (55:39):
Okay, Sorry about that anyway, all right, I'm back.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
Do you have any breaking news for us? Did you
find something?

Speaker 5 (55:45):
No?

Speaker 6 (55:45):
Breaking news?

Speaker 19 (55:46):
Okay, First things first, these guys they want to be
in Cincinnati, right, so why not want to get the
deal done? That would be it now? So the Bengals
can't insult them during this process either, and so I
think if you give them reasonable offers, and I want
to get it done, so that's that's where I would
be at, and that includes Tea. I mean, I think
if you're offering him a three year deal, because a

(56:09):
lot of these guys are taking three year deals for
thirty plus million dollars a year, around thirty million dollars
per year, he's going to be compelled to consider that
offer and probably get close to taking it or take it.
Same thing goes for Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
If we have the new league year that starts at
four o'clock today. I know you talked about the cap hit.
Is it of vital importance that something were to happen
between now and four o'clock or I mean extra money
is always a good thing? Or does not not weigh
into the conversation here?

Speaker 19 (56:45):
It weighs in, I had your mute, It weighs in
a little bit. I just I think that they've accounted
for he already, and so it would have been beneficial
to have it done, have the extra cap space when
you had the slits of the world and had these
high end pass rushers and had all these guys that
your potential that you could target, not that they were,

(57:06):
but that you could target. But you look at it
now and free agencies already and it's second wave, third waves,
and heck, we're probably twenty four hours away from hearing
about visits to Rubies, right, So it's changed some and
it's one of those things where it stinks, at least
on the surface, because you could maximize your cap by

(57:28):
doing certainties.

Speaker 6 (57:30):
And for them, they haven't gone that way.

Speaker 19 (57:32):
But they stop plenty of cap space because they haven't
added a bunch of guys. So depending on what their
plan is keeping Pee and getting him done before four o'clock,
I'm not sure it matters. It shouldn't because they can
structure things however they want to and make sure that
they have enough cap space. But knowing their history, knowing
how they like to save a little cap and give

(57:55):
themselves flexibility going into the season, having that extra room
to play with now, it's certainly more beneficial than say,
extending Tea in June and then getting that extra cap space.

Speaker 3 (58:06):
Is there cap management and contract structure, incompetence or just
the stubborn way that they do business, a refusal to change.

Speaker 6 (58:17):
Oh, I think it's yeah.

Speaker 19 (58:19):
They view it as the most the best way to
approach it because of the Sheldon Rankins Is of the world.

Speaker 6 (58:27):
Right where you bring him in, it doesn't work.

Speaker 19 (58:30):
It's obvious it's not gonna work. And so you can
get out of it. And I do get that. And
by the way, with the Sheldon Rankins.

Speaker 6 (58:36):
Is of the world, do that, Yeah, don't do.

Speaker 19 (58:38):
That with the Trey Hendrickson and T Higgins is. And
like T Higgins is twenty six years old, who cares?
If you give him a fully guaranteed year two? Who cares?

Speaker 6 (58:48):
And those are the ones that like, if.

Speaker 19 (58:52):
That's what's costing you getting the extension done, we'll just
do it, because you know what T Higgins brings. He's
not a wild card, you know how he fits, and
just getting the deal done makes more sense than hashing
this out over a little guaranteed money. And I'm not
sure that's the issue, but if it is the issue,
it shouldn't be an issue.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
Can you win that way in the NFL building like this,
refusing to guarantee your great players and structure those deals
that way? Is it possible?

Speaker 19 (59:18):
They would say, they would say we were two plays away, right,
And I think the counter would be. Yeah, that's when
you catch lightning in a bottle. And it's really hard
to win and build a sustainable winner that way, and
we're seeing that now. I mean it's really tough because
you have to draft really well and you have to
keep your stars, and that's the hard part. If you're

(59:39):
not going to play in the Milton Williams market in
the Josh Sweat market from a free agent standpoint, well
then you better keep your guys that are of that level.
And so that's the challenge that they're trying to navigate
right now, and we'll see if they can pull it off.
I mean, I still expect them to keep these stars.
Now we'll see about Trey. Trey's the one that's tough.

Speaker 9 (01:00:00):
To keep them.

Speaker 19 (01:00:01):
I haven't changed that because they're in win now mode
right now, and if you want to win in twenty
twenty five, it's hard for me to see a scenario
where you're in Santa Clair playing in the Super Bowl
and Trey Hendrickson even on the team.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
I know we've had conversations and it's been out there
about the scouting department, and we talked about this in
our Number one as well. But in a time like this,
when you're looking at Pro days across the NFL, when
you're looking at free agency, when you have deals that
you need to get done and a lot on Duke

(01:00:34):
Tobin's plate. Does it hurt them at this time of
the year because they are so shorthanded in the scouting department.

Speaker 19 (01:00:46):
It's so tough because I think they they like it
like this where you have coach input and you're sending
coaches to pro days and and they're in the room
discussing the board and all of those things. Now, is
it is it extra work that other coaches in the
league don't necessarily have to do at that level? Yeah,

(01:01:06):
But I think that the way they structure it is
they think is the now, are you having another couple
a couple of scouts would help things, would take the
pressure off, a little less travel, all of those things.

Speaker 6 (01:01:20):
I would argue that.

Speaker 19 (01:01:21):
Because in this modern day, I don't know how much
you get out of being present at a lot of
these things and in person, and if you're spreading yourself thinned,
that's one of those things. But if you talk to them,
whether it's on the record or off the record, I mean,
they feel really confident in the scouting and the guys

(01:01:43):
that they have making these decisions. That's James really excited
about me during this interview.

Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
Well, I can't imagine, James. The good news is in
about the sixteen minutes that we've talked here, the Bearcats
have scored five points, So that's a positive Bearcats trail.

Speaker 19 (01:02:00):
That was like that was like me when I was
playing you one on one.

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
It was I just could not get a bucket.

Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
It was it was brutal and not fun to watch.
I'm assuming about as fun as this game is to watch.
Iowa State is up thirty to eighteen with a minute
and twenty nine left in the half. James, what's the
easiest way to follow along with everything you got going on?
It's a extremely important offseason and a busy offseason. What's
the easiest way to follow everything?

Speaker 19 (01:02:25):

the Bearcat's kept it under ten and a half. Ready
to apply some pressure here in the second half. Let's
see what we got in store today. Here are down
eleven man.

Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Oh they're not, hey, Jny.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Thirty three to twenty four. Oh that's nine. That's nine, Hey, Johnny,

Hey, I know I haven't been leaving talkbacks lately, but
I've been sick. It's been coming out both friends. Tony,
I want to issue a very happy birthday.

Speaker 25 (01:05:08):
Okay, hey guys, it's Chris and uh do you guys
remember when you see used to be good and this
time of year in this town was just really really
exciting and uh, I mean that was.

Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
Awesome, idiots, God most of the topic.

Speaker 13 (01:05:31):
Jesus.

Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
I think that's a tribute to the lake.

Speaker 20 (01:05:35):
Chris Farley, Tony, it's Greg Around noon I'm heading up
to Mad Tree to watch our Bearcats beat stop the
I truly believe that will happen. So by two forty
five it'll be two down and three to go.

Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Enjoy the game, man, I'll tell you what. I didn't
enjoy the first half, Greg, Greg calling his shot. It
seems didn't enjoy the first So.

Speaker 7 (01:06:00):
This is former president Ronald the Gambler Reagan and well management.
You got to know when to sign them, no, when
to trade them, no when to tag them, and no
when to spend players. You gotta know when to hold out, no,
when to give in, no, when to sign it or

(01:06:20):
ask for more. Well, now I'm off to make that
McKendrick presentation. I'm gonna kill it. After picking up some
neat new clothes at Goodwill yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
Good luck, I e tone. What's good?

Speaker 6 (01:06:36):
Hey man?

Speaker 26 (01:06:36):
I was watching the Bearcats baseball game on TV the
other day and it looked like a vibe down there.

Speaker 6 (01:06:42):
Go to a game.

Speaker 26 (01:06:43):
Before, but I might have to go to a couple
this year because it was rocking down there. And hopefully
by the time this top back is played, we hear
something about Tea need a contract. We needed spirits up.
So I got some goat blood, some chalk, and a
little saut circle. I got some little ritual learn our ready,
so we'll hear them about the end of y'all, I
got something going.

Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
You'd be careful of getting rituals off of Reddit. It
sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Speaker 13 (01:07:10):
Hey, guys, Jeff and New Richmond, Happy Wednesday to you.
It's about high noon here in this beautiful Wednesday afternoon,
getting ready to watch those bipolar Bearcats play some basketball today.
They have to win tomorrow. I think West made a
mistake by complimenting them yesterday because this is usually when

(01:07:31):
they'll laying eggs. So anyway, we'll see what happens. Guys,
have a great afternoon.

Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Yeah, I think a big part of that egg was
laid there in the first half.

Speaker 24 (01:07:42):
Hey, jating down on deal hollow. I'm taking at leaving
a talk back to Damn driving in the car.

Speaker 6 (01:07:47):
So this is a double dip.

Speaker 24 (01:07:49):
Just kill the first one. I guess I don't know,
wouldn't let me listen to it. The only reason I'm
calling is to wish Tony happy late birthday. And you
gave a shout out to the man Ronald Wilson Rapp
and Reagan didn't get to do a talk pick yesterday,
but that was Gold Gold, my friend.

Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
We need more, well, old Jerry Gold.

Speaker 21 (01:08:12):
My prediction, the Bearcats will beat the Cyclones, but only
if it's the Cincinnati Cyclones, because hockey players are short
and they they don't rebound.

Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
Yep, they ain't gonna win this one, all right, Hot
day tonight. Okay, let's see, hey.

Speaker 27 (01:08:36):
Dudes, Nah Crocs maybe dress crocs, fire, Adidas slides two casual.

Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
For cargo pants, cargo pantspops.

Speaker 27 (01:08:48):
Haven't dealt with the ponail fungus yet, Birkenstock Jesus slippers. No,
look good with my white Nike socks. Let's roll with
the dress crocks in Sincy three sixty charm.

Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
Yeah, she'll know I'm a ball man. Okay, go get it,
then come back with it. Good luck.

Speaker 28 (01:09:03):
Be sitting in your basement eating funions, funions, guys, I
think that. Okay, out there and have a great day today.

Speaker 9 (01:09:14):
Go big Blue.

Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
I'll definitely guy, I'll definitely take the Funians over the Cheetos.
People like Cheetos. I've never met someone that's like, man,
I'm starving for these fungians.

Speaker 29 (01:09:28):
The Wednesday, beating a dead horse, talkback Bills and Chiefs,
restructuring contracts left and right, signing newer, better, hopefully good players.

Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
Bengals.

Speaker 7 (01:09:38):
We got Zip going on right now.

Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
Yeah, I mean they don't have to restructure anybody at
the moment. You're right, Zip Zilch.

Speaker 30 (01:09:47):
I was happy hump Day. I don't know what the
hell happened to f C Cincinnati last night in the
Conca Calf game, but second half they looked like a
totally different team. T Grace must have gone into the
locker room, gotten in the hold of some Michael sweet
stuff from space Jam and they were just on fire
in the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
So it's over.

Speaker 30 (01:10:07):
Speaking of over, bear Cat season is gonna be over
in about one hundred and twenty minutes. Can't wait for that.
And Bengals with a huge signing everyone's favorite pool game,
Marco Paulo.

Speaker 3 (01:10:18):
There you go. It's fun, hey, fellas it this will
be fun.

Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
Tony.

Speaker 23 (01:10:23):
I'm gonna oucha buddy, unless unless you have a doppel
ganger running around. I saw you last night at Pond
of Freaking Rosa Man Pondorosa and Austin. You won't believe it, buddy,
was wearing crocs, Man big orange crocs. He had a
Bengal little tiger on there. I forget what the kids
call those little do hickies they put on their crocs.

Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
They had a Bengal tiger.

Speaker 23 (01:10:45):
He had a Cincinnati bear Cat a res logo.

Speaker 28 (01:10:48):
What are we doing?

Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
I missed you last night? Vine. I usually we usually
do Ponderosa on Wednesdays? Is it bad? I used to
love Pondorosa growing up. I don't think it's bad to
love little Ponderosa. Well, well, donetown.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
I absolutely did reach for the turner and the volume button.

Speaker 11 (01:11:06):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
I appreciate it, very very well done, very thank you,
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:11:12):
Brandon from Anderson here, Hey Brandy, I would start by saying,
hey dudes, but apparently after yesterday's program.

Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
That's round the ball.

Speaker 8 (01:11:20):
Uh, the only UC team that's going to be winning
by eight and a half points is the baseball team.

Speaker 6 (01:11:27):
Go Backcats.

Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
I like the Batcats.

Speaker 31 (01:11:34):
This is Jen in Loveland. Hey Jen, I have a
question based solely on your description of the UC bear
Cats and what Moe has to say. I've listened on
the radio but have not watched very much. I've been
wondering if the players want to get the coach fired

(01:11:56):
or are they really just a very adequate team.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
I don't think they want to get him fired. He's
a he's a player's coach players I would assume like that.
I I'm curious after the rest of today happens, what
the fallout could or may look like when this season
is officially over on on players that don't want to
be here decide to move on. I think that's going

(01:12:22):
to be fascinating. But I just don't think from an
end game standpoint at this point, he's a very good
coach with.

Speaker 6 (01:12:28):
It Hey, Tony and Austin, it's Adam Adam.

Speaker 32 (01:12:33):
And with the announcement today of Wes Miller already being
brought back from next year after a disappointing season, after
this team not making the tournament in forever, same goes
with the Bearcats. Since Fickle it's been down the toilet?
How can you bring back Miller and Sadderfield both? Do
you agree with this?

Speaker 6 (01:12:54):
I don't.

Speaker 32 (01:12:54):
I'm sure the majority of the fans don't.

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
There are there are buyouts in college sports. If you're
one that does not think the coaches should be back,
the buyouts are both. I believe over ten million for
both Scott Sudderfield and west Miller. You know, Chad Brenda
made the point when we had him on a couple
of weeks ago that you know, this is an agreement
that was made going into into all of this, that

(01:13:21):
you know it's going to be a process going into
the Big twelve, and there are going to be ups
and downs, and they made apparently an agreement to each
other that they're gonna to both stay in that setting.

Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
And I guess that's why we're here.

Speaker 6 (01:13:37):
Ton disagree with the on Pittsburgh.

Speaker 32 (01:13:40):
Russell Wilson's no good and Aaron Rodgers is washed.

Speaker 11 (01:13:43):
I hope they get Rogers.

Speaker 19 (01:13:44):
That's good for the Bengals the rest of the asion later.

Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
I think, I don't think he's what he was, but
I think Aaron Rodgers would be in a mediate upgrade
from what they had last year at quarterback. And that
quarterback last year threw for what seven hundred yards against
the Bengals.

Speaker 22 (01:13:59):
Good after and gentlemen, this is rob from Michigan. I
robbed a Austin. Hey, Tony, do we know if Joe
Burrow has officially restructured his contract yet? And if not,
why not have a good day, gentlemen.

Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
He's not restructured. He has not, and the reason is
he doesn't need to right now. They have I think
just north of thirty million total in cap space at
the moment, so they don't require money poor. It's not
a requirement now when you sign other players and you're
up against the cap in future years. His contract was

(01:14:37):
designed to be able to do those restructures like Mahomes
does to create more space.

Speaker 11 (01:14:43):
Hey, guys, deafine, indeed he Austin. To answer your question,
how do we create separation in the AFC? How about
we start with t Higgins and Jamar Chase and Trey
Hendrickson are happy and on the field because they are
your best players outside of number nine and Tony. Want
to get your thoughts for UC's next coach, Jared Calhoun.
I believe Utah State be coming home to be the

(01:15:03):
coaching you see.

Speaker 6 (01:15:04):
I think you see he's.

Speaker 11 (01:15:05):
Got to make the move because he's about to make
a jump. Maybe NC State. They're mentioning him in Indiana
something to consider.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Yeah, we don't have to consider that here because, as
John Cunningham has already said, Wes Miller will be the
coach next year.

Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
Yep. And also they had those guys last year and
couldn't separate from the AFC. Hey guys, it's Nick from
dayton As. Thanks for everything that you do.

Speaker 29 (01:15:31):
But I think what we're dealing with with the Bengals
front office right now, you're seeing the difference between an
organization that wants to win and what we have, which
is an organization that's strictly being ran as a business,
no intent of no intent of getting better, just meddling
in mediocrity.

Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
What do you think that's the incompetence Yeah, when you
talk about it, I mean I just posted a tweet
that the Bengals approach to roster building and contract structuring
is inefficient and incompetent. It requires them to heavily depend
on development, health and luck to win a Super Bowl.

(01:16:15):
And people say, well, why don't they change or why
don't they you know, they hate when everyone's criticizing them,
or why keep doing the same thing over and over?
That's that's the incompetence party. They don't realize that the
way that they do things is flawed. Correct think and
James said this. They think that what they're doing is
the best way to approach it and in some cases

(01:16:38):
it is. But when you have great players, you got
to pay great players. It's like they're always afraid that
something bad is going to happen when they pay a
great player. I just don't understand, though, in the world
I don't live in today, how they can be tone
deaf to that, because you know, I quite frankly think
there are too many yes men in that building. That

(01:16:59):
would be my guess. I don't know if that's true,
but that's my guess. And there are too many people.
You know, a lot of people on social media that
carry the water for them, not everybody. There are plenty
of people that are critical of them. But for years,
people get mad, and over the last couple of years,
people get mad when the national media would criticize the Bengals.

(01:17:20):
The reason they do that is because of the narrative
that exists is true, and they are trying to provide
and shed light on that and really and make people
realize that the Bengals are not to be taken seriously
because they will not change in order to do what's
necessary to compete when it comes to roster building. Yeah,

(01:17:40):
it's just where we're at, which is tough to take.
For a lot of folks, and you think about it
of you know, one of the reasons why I've defended
Zach Taylor so staunchly is because I think with all
that he has to consider, with the people above him,
I think he's done a really good job. And I
think it was Joe Goodberry described it one way. When
you coach the Cincinnati Bengals, you are doing so with

(01:18:03):
one hand tied behind your back. You have to operate
that way because you're not going to get all the
resources necessary to build a winner, correct, and so number one,
it makes it a destination that nobody wants to come to.
Burrow has kind of fixed that in and of himself.
But that's not going to last forever.

Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
Yes, And that's the thing. Everything that's been built here,
Austin you mentioned it's not going to last forever. You
are missing the window badly right now. Yep, that was
our last one. All right, let's take a break. Austin
has a trivia question ready for when we get back

(01:18:45):
that you'll have an opportunity to win Sebastian Manuscato Staco tickets.
It's next Friday. It's happening at Heritage Bank Arena. You
can win two tickets to the show, and all you
have to do is call in five to one, three, seven, four,
fifteen thirty. You'll have to answer a question. If you
answer that question correctly, you will be going to see

(01:19:07):
Sebastian next Friday. As we go to break Bearcats Trail
Iowa State thirty six to twenty nine, early stages of
the second half, we'll keep you updated on that as well.
At Sincy three to sixty. You're listening on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of Cincy shirts, k Wise Cincinnati.

Speaker 17 (01:19:26):

Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
Today from the Tom rectand.

Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
He continues on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
Welcome back since he three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of CINCI shirts. I'm just
not having fun today. Bearcats down twelve without a run
in the next couple of minutes. This thing is over
and done, and I have to be honest, Austin, I'm
not going to be as mad as in years past
when this is all done. It's just brutal to watch.

(01:20:39):
It's unbelievably hard to watch this team with so much
talent performance such a poor, poor level. But let's not
harp on the bad. Let's celebrate the good. And the
good right now is we've got tickets to give away.
You like comedy, you like laughing, because there are a
lot that we watch this offense today and they laugh

(01:21:01):
if they're not UC fans. How some of the UC
fans are probably laughing as well. But I'm talking about
laughs from Sebastian Maniscalco. That's what you can get next.
Friday at Heritage Bank Center. All you have to do
is answer a question, but in order to answer the
question correctly, you have to call in.

Speaker 6 (01:21:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:21:22):
The good five to one three starting. The bad is
we don't have any callers at the moment.

Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
There are so many people locked into this UC game
that no one even wants the tickets at this point.

Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
By the way, quick Reds update, The Reds just announced
that they have today returned Rule five selection Cooper Bowman
to the Athletics. If you don't know how the Rule
five draft works, the Reds basically pluck a player from
another team, uh and if he doesn't make the big
league roster, they got to send him back to that team.
That's what they did with Cooper Bowman. He got a

(01:21:54):
ton of chances in spring training so far, but does
not appear to be a guy who's going to make
this ball club with the outfield competition that the Reds
currently have, and so he goes back to the Sacramento Athletics.
The outfield competition is pretty interesting. By the way, It's
getting interesting. Will Benson eh so far during spring training,

(01:22:16):
Blake Done eh so far during spring training. Jacob herdivies
though hotter than the surface of the sun right now?
How hot is the sun? He's hitting five twenty nine
tripled in a run last night. He's been pretty good.
He's got great speed. The big thing is can any
of those guys hit left handed pitching? That's what it's
gonna come down to, uh, for these outfielders in this

(01:22:40):
competition with the Reds. Looks like we have a call.
Speaking of a competition, we got a competition here. Hello, caller,
if you can hear our voice, you're on the air.
What is your name?

Speaker 5 (01:22:50):
Tom?

Speaker 9 (01:22:51):
Tom?

Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
Are you calling in to win Sebastian Maniscalco tickets?

Speaker 6 (01:22:55):
Yeah? All right?

Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
Can you answer the following question? The phone lines just
start working. They're lighting up right now. Tom. Are you
a Bengals fan?

Speaker 6 (01:23:05):
I am all right?

Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
Could you tell me, Tom? Who who the quarterback was
that Trey Hendrickson sacked for his first career sack as
a Bengal?

Speaker 19 (01:23:18):
Oh wow, Uh, let's say.

Speaker 7 (01:23:25):
I'm trying to thank.

Speaker 6 (01:23:27):
In a couple of years he's been with us. Yeah,
it's just gonna be a guess.

Speaker 3 (01:23:35):
Let's see five four three two one incorrect? Good guess
you are looking for the first Your questions are terrible.
The first sack of Trey Hendrickson's career came against what quarterback?

Speaker 9 (01:23:55):
Caller?

Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
If you can hear our voice here on the air,
what is your name and what is your guests?

Speaker 6 (01:24:00):
Benny for Hey, Van Dog, I got it, I got it? Fellas,
all right?

Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
Answer it is it? Tam Dton, No, thanks, Vin. Call her?
If you can hear our voice, you're on the air.
What is your name and what is your guest?

Speaker 6 (01:24:18):
Mike?

Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
Okay, Mike, go ahead, Ben ross Burger incorrect, Big Ben,
Let's go to Bake and Sharonville bake. What's your guess?

Speaker 19 (01:24:34):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:24:35):
Let me go with Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
Good guess, but incorrect? Call her if you can hear
our voice. You're on the air. What is your name
and where are you calling your Okay, Michelle, what's your guess? Incorrect? Incorrect?
All right? Brian and white Oak? What's your guess?

Speaker 6 (01:25:02):
Audi? I was listening on the app.

Speaker 19 (01:25:03):
I didn't answer even a hearing of the question.

Speaker 3 (01:25:05):
The question is who was the first quarterback Trey Hendrickson
sacked as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Geno Smith incorrect,
good guess caller. If you can hear our voice, you're
on the air? What is your name and who is
your guests? Hello? Are you there? All right? Thanks for

(01:25:33):
playing caller. If you can hear our voice, you're on
the air. What is your name and who is your guest?

Speaker 6 (01:25:40):
Hey, it's a Brian.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Okay, yes, yeah, what's your guest?

Speaker 6 (01:25:47):
First one?

Speaker 3 (01:25:49):
First one with the Bengals twenty twenty one season?

Speaker 24 (01:25:54):
How about Roethlisberger?

Speaker 3 (01:25:55):
Incorrect? Incorrect? Thank you? All right, I'll give it a hint. Now.
It was in week two of twenty twenty one at
the Chicago Bears. Two quarterbacks played in that game for Chicago.
It was also maybe the worst game of Joe Burrow's
career up until the New England game this year. Bryce

(01:26:16):
and Cincinnati. What's your guess?

Speaker 6 (01:26:18):
Hi, I'm gonna guess Andy Dalton?

Speaker 3 (01:26:21):
Incorrect? But Andy Dalton did play in that game? Caller,
what is your name? And what is your guests? And
he hung on. Now here's my question. Okay, I'm on Wikipedia.

Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
It says on March nineteenth, twenty twenty one, and where
I'm sorry. In Week two against the Bears, Trey Hendrickson
recorded his first sack of the season, a strip sack
on Andy Dalton.

Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
He sacked in the third quarter Justin Fields, him and
Sam Hubbard oh combined, So we will try again tomorrow.
We'll try to give away two pairs tomorrow. Okay, yeah,
his first full sack technically was Andy Dalton, but the

(01:27:08):
first sack he recorded as a bang, oh oh, was
on Justin Fields.

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
Okay, well, we gotta we gotta cut that next time.
It's either a full sack, a sack, is a sack, well,
that's a half sack. It's still a sack, a half
sack versus a full sack, sacks or sacks. Man, I
didn't get a lawyer on the on the on the
on the phone. We gotta we gotta straighten this out.
Berekkatz have cut the lead to seven coming out of
a timeout? What are we doing? And we were coming back?

(01:27:34):
We got to touch and go coming up? Are we
done till the third hour? What does this look like?

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
We have about two more minutes to kill here, three minutes?

Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Actually all right, Well, here's what's coming up in the
the third and final hour. We have some audio from
Paul Danner Junior with Moegger yesterday. Uh, we do have
some Cincinnati Reds audio that we need to get to
and and more on the Reds to to talk about
at this point as spring training now thirteen games left

(01:28:02):
after today, including today, thirteen games left, things start to
wind down just a little bit here for the Cincinnati Reds.

Speaker 24 (01:28:10):
There.

Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
I don't want to use the term epidemic, but there
is a problem right now with starting pitching and injuries
in Major League Baseball. This has been highlighted by the
Yankees Ace Garrett Cole now having to undergo Tommy John surgery.
So that is something that we're going to watch very

(01:28:33):
very closely going forward and kind of see where things stand.
But it is worth noting and it is worth discussing
where things stand in Major League Baseball right now. Speaking
of where things stand.

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
Henderson among those they're injured right now, one of the
stars of Major League Baseball, one of the cover athletes
with Elie Day La Cruz on MLB the Show. So yeah,
there's a lot of good players banged up right now,
which again makes me think, let's bubble wrap Ellie Da
La Cruz, Matt McClain, and Hunter Green and just ship
them back to Cincinnati, right.

Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Bring them back here and let them relax. Speaking of relaxing,
there's nothing to be no relaxing. Over the next fourteen minutes.
Austin the Bearcats just went on a run. They cut
it to three. Dylan Mitchell with a breakaway dunk, they
cut it to three. They immediately come down and give
up a layup, and then on the other end, Dan
Skillings turns the ball over and this lead is about

(01:29:28):
the balloon back up to seven or eight for Iowa State.
It's just it never surprises me at this point how
bad it can get, and how they can go in
waves of being just brutal for stretches and then look
like they've never played the game before in their life.
It's so frustrating, it's so ridiculous to watch, and yet

(01:29:51):
we continue to put ourselves through it and continue to
watch anything else you continue to do that what many
people are most watching Right down the hall, there's a
ton of people on social medi that we both work
for them, so yeah, and there's also people that are
wondering if Wikipedia holds true, then the first sack was
Andy Dalton. We might have to go to the boards here,

(01:30:12):
might have to take this to a vote. This might
be poll question two point.

Speaker 3 (01:30:15):
Zero one eighteen to go. Second quarter. Justin Field sacked
at Chicago forty two for minus nine yards sack split
by t Hendrickson and s Hubbard. He was sacked once earlier.
That was by DJ Reader on the previous drive with
seven oh five to go in the second I.

Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
Think the question should be does a half sack constitute
of Someone's first question was who was the first quarterback
that Trey Hendrickson sacked as a member of the Bengals
split sack sack Justin Fields.

Speaker 3 (01:30:49):
Bearcat's now down nine after Tony. We'll have two trivia
questions for you to moving my mind here.

Speaker 2 (01:30:54):
Head it to three. Now it's nine. Welcome back. We'll
hear of our three when we get back. CINCI three
to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thank
you to our friends at CINCI.

Speaker 1 (01:31:05):

and lemonade. It's all about good taste. Pennstation East Coast
Subs order online today. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati

(01:31:26):
Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
All right, here we go with the third and final
hour of Cincy three sixty service of Penn Station on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. We'll update you as
things happen in the Bearcats game here against Iowa State.
They're down seven at the under twelve minute time out
with the ball coming out of the break. We have
We've spent a lot of time on the Bengals. We

(01:31:49):
need to get to some Cincinnati Reds as well. But
there are a couple I think things to kind of
close the book on what the Bengals have done to
this point. And I want to play some audio from
Moegor with Paul Danner Jr.

Speaker 3 (01:32:02):
Yesterday. But you know, the the the audio. Let let's
start this.

Speaker 2 (01:32:06):
Let's let's play this audio first because I want to
have this conversation with you as well, Austin about this
point of what the Bengals have done. Moe here in
this first clip, is asking Paul Danner Junior to assess
what the Bengals have done up to this point in
free agency.

Speaker 18 (01:32:26):
I don't know if we you know, I sort of
buy in the whole, like gonna It's gonna be different, right,
You're gonna rebuild this. I think yeah, you're gonna rebuild
this thing. Right, it looks like a lot of the
same things are happening. Right, These are the same people,
and I think I didn't think that there would be

(01:32:46):
so much And that's fine.

Speaker 9 (01:32:48):
It kind of is a bit of a double down on.

Speaker 18 (01:32:53):
It was lose fault, right, these are the same guys,
Like if these are kind of a lot of the
same guys that are coming back outside of a select
few and some of the older players. You know, I
guess Hubbard retires and Kap has gone. That's on the
offensive side of the ball. But whatever's gonna pen with
your main pract But I mean a lot of the
same guy when you bring back bj Hill and and

(01:33:15):
and you bring back Joseph Asai and you're doubling down
on Miles Murphy and you're doing all those things with
your front seven. Obviously they're loving you know, they've been
talking up Logan Wilson, they're investing, they're clearly comfortable with
their young corners and secondary. It's kind of a run
it back with a new person in charge. Feel on defense,

(01:33:38):
that's that is a large bet to put on al gold. Now,
I don't know, maybe maybe it was maybe they'll be
proven right. Maybe it'll be Al Golden will come in
and things will click for all these young players and
everything will fall into place better. And part of it
was a disconnect between the coordinator and the personnel. I

(01:33:59):
don't know, maybe that will be the case. I wasn't
expected it to be this much in that direction though,
And gosh didn't we just get done talking about how
it's Trey Hendrickson nobody else rushing the passer, and now
it's still just Trey Hendrickson and I don't know who
else rushing the passer.

Speaker 3 (01:34:16):
Right as of three Tohoa today.

Speaker 18 (01:34:18):
But it's not like there's a lot of other difference
making pass rushing options outside of the draft. And so
now here we are again another year where you're saying, man,
granted the draft is good for it, but yeah, here
you go. Gotta go get yourself some pass rushing defensive
linemen to sprinkle into this mix if you're gonna have

(01:34:41):
some game changers beyond.

Speaker 9 (01:34:44):
What you already know.

Speaker 18 (01:34:45):
And like I said, I mean, there's good there's reasons
to make bets on and take chances on Josepho's side
and on Miles Murphy and or Chris Jenkins and McKinley
Jackson and like, these are guys that, yeah, you take
some bets, you'd like to have a little bit more
in the sure thing to part. Yeah, though to go
along with it, And I think it's a little surprising,

(01:35:06):
you know that there really hasn't been anything in that regard.

Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
I think that's the sentiment shared by many surprising at
this point. And really when you boil it down, surprising
to the point because of what we heard from Duke
Tobin again at the combine, we're going to attack our defense.
We're a championship level team that didn't get an opportunity

(01:35:33):
that irritates all of us. That has essentially Austin turned
into let's run it back for the most part and
put a lot of pressure on Al Golden in year
number one as the defensive coordinator. I just don't think
that's a fair ask of Al Golden at this point.

Speaker 3 (01:35:54):
Hope is not a strategy. You can't hope that Al
Golden makes everybody play better. And if I could ask
Duke Duke Tobin one question right now, I would say,
what changed from the way you spoke about the combine
to the way you're going after players right now and again,
this just keeps coming back to me thinking, does Duke
really have any poll whatsoever? Does he really do anything?

(01:36:17):
He can say? All this stuff and the language he
used and the attitude he used, and the passion that
was in his speech he sold me it was everything
you wanted to hear from this organization for the first
time ever. But the actions did not match the words.
If the actions had matched the words, they would have
done what they did in twenty twenty two with Alex Kappa.

(01:36:38):
Deal would have been done at twelve oh one. They
would have been ready to go. They would have signed
multiple guards already, they would have fixed the t Higgins
and Jamar Chase issues already. There would be full steam
ahead on this organization towards continuing to make their great

(01:36:58):
player and Joe Burrow happy and keeping the window open.
But instead, for some reason that we don't really know
what it is, we just want. We just want to
assume guaranteed money and guarantees past year one. That's what
we want to assume. The issue is for whatever reason.

(01:37:19):
And I do think that Higgins and Chase aren't negotiating,
and I think they're waiting, and I think they're trying
to stick it to the Bengals, and I don't. Yeah,
that's my guess, that's what I think is happening. But
either way, if they had done what they were supposed
to do two years ago, I'm not an issue. So
my problem is what changed between the way you were

(01:37:40):
talking at the combine and how you haven't followed up
with that so far in free agency.

Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
It's it's so maddening because this this fan base and
those that that cover this team as well, they want
they want the winner, they want the Super Bowl window,
and it did. It felt like in a lot of ways, Austin,
that we were sold something at the combine that man,

(01:38:11):
oh man, that sounds like you said different. That sounds
like a tone that we've not heard in quite some time.
As it pertains to the Cincinnati Bengals, Yes we need
to be out there. Yes we need to be competing
because this is a window to win a championship. And man,
we're pissed. We're mad as well that we didn't make it.

(01:38:33):
It's inexcusable that we didn't make it. And at the
same time, the actions they don't continue to match what
we're hearing this team say. There was one other audio
clip here from yesterday as well, because most said he's bagging,

(01:38:53):
bagging at this point for the Bengals to come out
and say that they have a cash problem.

Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
He asked Paul Danner Junior. If the Bengals do have
a cash.

Speaker 33 (01:39:02):
Problem, A lot of people have rationalized what the Bengals
haven't done with their belief and perhaps it's a valid
one that the Bengals have a cash problem. Now, I
know they don't open up their books. Do you think
they have a cash problem? No, I don't either. No,
I don't think they do. I think that I don't

(01:39:24):
think they think they have a cash problem. I mean,
there's not I hear. It's a hard sell.

Speaker 9 (01:39:30):
I hear.

Speaker 33 (01:39:32):
I hear this all the time. I'm sure you see
it as well. They don't have a cap problem. They
have a cash problem. They have plenty of cash. It's
not the NFL like Brown number three hundred and thirty
eight and Forbes four hundred four hundred richest people in
the United States of America. Now, he has no obligation
to spend his personal fortune on the football team. But

(01:39:55):
you don't have a cash problem if you're on that list.

Speaker 18 (01:39:57):
No, you do not have a cash problem, and you
don't have a cash problem when the NFL is sending
you checks for four hundred million and we don't pay rent.

Speaker 9 (01:40:07):
I mean yeah, like legitimally. I hear this all the time,
and I go, look, I'm not.

Speaker 33 (01:40:12):
An economist, and they don't open their books, and I like,
far be it from me. I understand that they're their
revenues are football, right, and they don't own hotels and
casinos and restaurants. Their revenues are football, and I guess
the occasional concert, that's what they do.

Speaker 9 (01:40:28):
Mike Brown's not digging for oil. I understand that.

Speaker 33 (01:40:30):
So if you want to say, well, their their level
of cash is not what the Cowboys might be or
other larger market franchises, fine, I understand that. I WinCE
when someone suggests to me they have a cash problem. Yeah,
there's the hardest sell of all selves.

Speaker 18 (01:40:46):
Yeah, And I don't I've never I've certainly never heard
anyone say that internally to me. I mean, not that
they would go around being like cash problem, but I
that's not any messaging or any excuses that I've ever heard,
And so I don't know, they don't And I don't
think they've I've ever heard them claim as much.

Speaker 33 (01:41:07):
So they're not crying poor behind the scenes, nor should
they be. The National Football League.

Speaker 18 (01:41:11):
It's they're just swimming in money at this point. It's unbelievable,
I don't think. I mean when we've never seen a
league have a run like they've had over the last
ten years.

Speaker 33 (01:41:20):
No, five years after a pandemic. Yeah, and it's only
just starting because of streaming and gambling money. It's only
going to increase. Yes's no cash problem, or it can't
be a cash problem. No, Like you are worse than
me at managing money if you run that franchise and
you have a cash problem.

Speaker 3 (01:41:34):
And they're not bad at managing money, I can tell
you that. Yes.

Speaker 9 (01:41:38):
By the way, they're also not cheap.

Speaker 33 (01:41:40):
Like if you're going to allow Jamar Chase to do
what he has done and hold it out and make
him reset the market again, you're you're not a cheap franchise.

Speaker 18 (01:41:47):
No, they will spend, you know. I do think there's
a little bit and this is a little bit of
the old school Bengals.

Speaker 3 (01:41:55):
Reporter in me.

Speaker 18 (01:41:57):
I do tend to be more patient in waiting to
see what it looks like in September, they just you know, sure,
you know, let's see, let's see what the whole picture
looks like before we start judging cash and cap and
if this was the right move or that was the
right move, and should they you know, you see whether

(01:42:17):
it's fans always have freaked out here, you know, then
it's better now than it used to be.

Speaker 2 (01:42:24):
So I think I never thought from a Bengal standpoint.
I understand that that's some people's narrative and maybe more
of a of a national thought. I the Bengals aren't poor.
The Bengals have the money to spend. The frustrating part,
Austin is if they were poor, that'd be more of
a of an excuse. This maybe understand why they're doing
or not doing some of the things that are happening.

(01:42:45):
They're not poor, they have the cap space and they're
not doing it, and they've sat idly by. And it's
one thing, Austin, like we talk all the time, and
a lot of those day one big movers all had
rookie quarterback deals. Buffalo had a great day yesterday and

(01:43:06):
they're paying Josh Allen a record amount of money. Restructured
at Oliver A little bit, bring in Joey Bosa, Larry
Oogin Joby. That's a team that doesn't have a quarterback
on a rookie deal. It's a team that's trying to contend,
and it feels like a team that's trying to win
a super Bowl. And I love to hear that the

(01:43:29):
goal is a super Bowl, But the actions to this
point from this organization don't match the words of wanting
to win a super Bowl because you're not making this
roster the best possible roster you can make it at
this point, and you're not cash poor.

Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
Yep. I've said for a long time about the Reds,
about the Bengals, about any team that I care about,
I want an aggressive pursuit of a championship. That is
what you owe me as a fan. That's what you
owe me. If I'm a season ticket holder. That's what
you owe me. If I'm spending my sundays at your stadium,

(01:44:08):
lining your pockets with money and buying the jerseys of
the great players that you draft and wearing the shirts
and whatever. I mean. Hell, in a way us here
at iHeartMedia partners with the Bengals. You owe that to
us as well. You owe that to anybody who has
invested in your franchise, that you will be in an

(01:44:31):
aggressive pursuit of a championship. That is the only reason
that league exists. Make money and win championships. That's what
it's all about. Those teams that win Super Bowls, Kansas City, Philadelphia,
New England, they're all swimming in money. Yep, it's about
It's not just about money. They have committed to an

(01:44:52):
aggressive pursuit of a championship, and that is what I'm
asking for. Yeah, and I don't think it's a terrible ask.
Is the problem? And here's what I worry about, and
and James kind of outlined this. I'm worried that they
think they are aggressively pursuing a championship. Oh, that's that's

(01:45:14):
what scares me. Yeah, because it's like, that's the thought.
If your perception of reality is so twisted that this
is what you think is right.

Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
Yeah, then there's there's an what are much bigger rooted problems.

Speaker 3 (01:45:28):
Then then it comes to what's the point. Yeah, Then
it gets to apathy. Then it gets to eventually people
going away. Now we've experienced this before with the Bengals.
They've left in droves. What happens when they turn it around,
what happens when they start to win? People come back.
They will eventually come back. And you know, hate to

(01:45:50):
say it. Phil Casolini was right on opening Day a
couple of years ago, where are you gonna go? But
in today's day and age in the National Football League,
people will go.

Speaker 7 (01:45:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:46:00):
When Joe Burrow finally gets fed up and loses his
ever loving mind on this franchise, people will go with
him more than they ever went with Carson. I mean, unbelievable.
They're apples to oranges. But hell of a job by
Bengals pr twisting that into saying it was all Carson
Palmer's fault. There's people out there that still believe that,
and that is nonsense, brutal. That's what worries me more

(01:46:25):
than anything. And it's my biggest fear and you kind
of brought it up with James two is what Burrow
eventually thinks. We talked about this earlier this week. He's
played pretty nice so far. He's gone into the media
and he's calmly and kindly outlined everything he has wanted

(01:46:46):
and then Duke Tobin said, I agree with everything our
quarterback says he said, I am in constant communication with him.
He's been very nice about it. And I'll tell you
if I know anything about Joe Burrow. I don't know that,
but I know some you know, I know people around him.
That guy will not go quietly into the night. Nope,

(01:47:08):
he will not buckle in. So be ready for that.
Let's switch it up. Let's talk some Cincinnati Reds. Thirteen
spring training games remain one and today at four oh five,
we'll recap yesterday's win. We've got some Reds audio and
a pitching problem across Major League Baseball as well, all
to get to when we return. Since he three to
sixty thanks to Penn Station on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati

(01:47:31):
Sports Station, there's.

Speaker 16 (01:47:32):
No better way to spend your afternoon unless you've got
Brooklin Jecker review, and you don't Loweggar to day at
three oh five on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:47:43):
Men generally we hear about medicine and effective treatments for
ED and other men's sexual health issues. But today let's
talk about the love aspect, because love is the best
reason to get treated, because ED can cause major relationship issues.
In fact, men often push their partners away when needy
becomes a problem. It can cause depression, arguments, breakups, even
contributing to divorce. And the worst part about it is

(01:48:05):
most men who suffer with D can be successfully treated,
but a lot of guys don't seek the treatment when
they should. Tri State Mental treatments work when the pills fail.
Treatments have success rates well over ninety percent, and they
have six convenient locations across Cincinnati, Daight and Columbus, Louisville,
and Northern Kentucky. Schedule a console with them today. Initial
visits ninety nine dollars. That gets you a medical medical
console with a licensed medical provider TNPSA testing and ath

(01:48:26):
medically advise a test dose. If that test dose doesn't
work in the office, your visit is free. Call them
today eight hundred nine hundred and nine to sixty five
to four or visit tri Statemenshealth dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
Three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
Welcome back since e three to sixty. ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of Penn Station. Thanks for
joining us today, Thanks for listening along all but pretty
much wrapped up in Kansas City. You see at the
fourteen minute mark of the game made it forty three
to forty. Since then, Oklahoma State has outscored them twenty

(01:49:15):
two to sixteen. They're up nine and so is going
to ideally end an awful, awful season. Disappointing wise for
the Cincinnati Bearcats as their season comes now close to
an end. The Cincinnati red season is obviously right around

(01:49:38):
the corner. Thirteen spring training games remain after yesterday's win.
If you care about wins and losses in spring training,
I don't know that anyone does unless you're betting on them.
But the Reds did win yesterday behind a pretty solid
pitching outing from Brady Singer. Four innings, one hit, one walk,

(01:49:59):
seven strikeouts. I'd say that's pretty decent for the new
Cincinnati Reds. Cincinnati red acquired in the Jonathan India trade,
Emeli o Pagan through a clean inning. Sam Mall got
beat up a little bit yesterday. Sam Mall went an inning,
three hits, four runs all earned. Not sam Mall's best outing.

(01:50:20):
He's probably just working on stuff, working on stuff. Remember
that's all we're allowed. We're not allowed to get mad
or criticized. Yet Yeah, Ian Jabo working on stuff as
well as he gave up a run.

Speaker 3 (01:50:31):
From a hitting standpoint, you want to guess what Jonathan
India is doing in spring training? What's he doing? One homer,
two RBI, eight hits, five runs, Oh boy, three point
thirty three, batting average four to sixty nine, on base
percentage nine to sixty nine ops. And I believe he's
played some outfield as well. Okay, back to you. Not bad,

(01:50:54):
not bad.

Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
Jendy RBI's yesterday for Will Benson. Jacob Herdebese Cees had
an RBI as well.

Speaker 3 (01:51:02):
Look good, smoked one up right up the middle, clean single,
looks solid.

Speaker 2 (01:51:07):
I like it. Ellie de la Cruz had a hit.
He's sitting still five hundred over the course of his spring.
Austin Hayes had a hit. He's at three forty eight
as well.

Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
So Gavin Lux played left field for the first time yesterday.
Terry Francona said in his pregame chat with Jim Day
that he told Gavin Lux, listen, I don't want to
embarrass anybody. Whenever you're ready to play outfield, you come
tell me. And a couple of weeks ago or a
couple of days ago, Lux popped his head into Francona's

(01:51:38):
office and said, hey, I'm good to go. So he
got his first first start out and left yesterday. I
don't think a ball was hit to him. I don't
think so. That kind of defeats the purpose of playing
the game out there. But Gavin Lux will probably get
an extended run and I think we'll price see a
little bit of Espanol out there as well. Yeah, he
continues to hit the ball well. He's hitting twenty so

(01:52:00):
far in spring. So with him playing a little bit
of that last season and his ability to hit left
handed pitching, I would imagine they'll take a look at that.

Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
There we go. Red's in action this afternoon. Do we
have a lineup today for the Reds?

Speaker 3 (01:52:13):
Yet? We do? We do have a lineup. You caught
me by surprise, even though I knew we were going
to do this, because much like you, I keep turning
my head to the TV to my right. So here's
how the Red Legs will line up today. They are
in Surprise Arizona to take on the Texas Rangers, and
it'll be TJ. Friedel leading off and playing center field.

(01:52:36):
The second batter is the second baseman Matt McLean batting
third is the shortstop Elie de la Cruz. The cleanup
batter is third baseman Jamer Candelario, betting fifth at first base,
Christian Incarnassi and Strand. The sixth batter is right fielder
Will Benson, batting seventh and catching today Jose Travino. The
eighth batter is the d H Blake done batting ninth

(01:52:59):
in left field. Old it's Jacob Herdibes and starting on
the mound for Cincinnati today right hander Nick Martinez. Well,
once more for Cincinnati, it's Freedom McClain, De la Cruz, Candelario, Strand, Benson,
Travino done Herdibes with Martinez on the bump, four five,
first pitch in the Cactus League. How about that fifteen

(01:53:23):
days away from opening day?

Speaker 5 (01:53:24):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:53:25):
What no, when you think of the number fifteen for
the Red's what comes to mind? Ooh man, that's tough.
Nick Senzel, Nicki longballs? Nick Senzel? Did you see Nicki
long balls? Yesterday? Signed with the Mexican League team. Doesn't
surprise me. At the age of like twenty eight or
twenty nine, he's out of Major league baseball. Doesn't surprise
me Felipe Lopez, he was number two. I thought I

(01:53:48):
thought he was number fifteen. I think I was at
a game once when Felipe hit a grand slam against
Baltimore Orioles. Man, that was fun. Sammy Sosa and Rafael
Palmerow were playing for the Orioles at the time.

Speaker 2 (01:53:59):
Did you know that in nineteen eighty six and eighty seven,
Barry Larkin war number fifteen?

Speaker 3 (01:54:04):
I did. I did know of that. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
But for Mester, if it's not Nick Sonzel, you got
to think what Emilio Pegan? Of course, friend of the show,
big friend of the show. Have you ever met George Foster?
Jim Edmonds in that twenty ten year Yes, I have
met George Foster.

Speaker 3 (01:54:21):
The first time I met George Foster guy, he asked
me what my name was, and he said I told
him Austin. He said, are you from Texas? Man? I
love it to George Foster. He's a beast man. George
seventy L MVP. We've got we've got some Cincinnati Reds audio.
We'll get to fitting that. In the final game of

(01:54:41):
their regular season, you see quits down the stretch, embarrassing
effort on all accounts. They're going to lose this by
over fifteen points. That's turn numbers at the end of
the game. Does this eliminate them from the crown? I
hope so. Yeah. I would hope so too. I hope so.

Speaker 6 (01:55:00):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:55:01):
I've said this, I've said this many times. I feel
bad for PJ because now you know he took Bearcats
plus seventeen and a half. Yeah, and they just hit
a three and now they're down twenty.

Speaker 10 (01:55:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
Day they missus. Pj's gonna lose his bet HEREJ, We're sorry, brother.

Speaker 3 (01:55:19):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
PJ should be pissed as many others because this team
quit down the stretch. Yep, they quit with under four
minutes left. They've quit multiple times this year. It's beat
Here's here's all I'll say about this, because the season's
officially over and it so ends. In my opinion, I
just sweet this out. It's the most disappointing season I've
ever witnessed as a UC basketball fan. On every account,

(01:55:41):
it is a complete failure. It's not like Austin. This
team went through a bunch of injuries. They were healthy
for much of the year. It's not like they went
into the season, they lost a big man like Xavier
did and found a way around it. Do you know
who compiled this roster? Austin wes Miller in his fourth
year as the head coach of this Cincinnati Bearcats. Wes
Miller compiled the roster that wasn't good enough, that that

(01:56:06):
quit on him today, that gave up thirty six points
in the paint, that out rebounded UC forty one to
twenty three. That's wes Miller's roster. That's his decisions on
how he was going to build this team and now.
And now is the infuriating part because the AD has

(01:56:27):
already come out and said we're going in the right direction.
Wes Miller's our coach next year. So if this is
the result in four years, what is there to lead
anyone to believe that it's going to change in year five.
This is the lowest of absolute lows I have ever
felt about a UC basketball program. And I watched them
give up a twenty two point lead to Nevada. It

(01:56:50):
is embarrassing on every account with that basketball program right now.
Unbelievable quit down the stretch of a Big twelve conference game,
conference championship game, Unbelievable let's switch gears. Let's go back
to the Redge when we get back, Let's find some
positives to finish this day before we bring in Mowagar
for quick hits. It's since he three to sixty on

(01:57:11):
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, A service at Penn Station.

Speaker 1 (01:57:15):
Kwise, Cincinnati, fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
Welcome back, since he three to sixty thanks to Penn
Station on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports Station. Uh, we
could talk pitching injuries tomorrow because we want to have
to worry about a Cincinnati Bearcat game.

Speaker 3 (01:57:37):
Mercifully that's over.

Speaker 2 (01:57:39):
I'll have more to talk about with that on Mowagar
maybe a little bit tomorrow as well.

Speaker 3 (01:57:43):
Tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:57:43):
Xavier Marquette in action, uk is in action at nine
to thirty, Iowa and Ohio State tonight, Louisville's in action tomorrow,
and Dayton gets Underwagh in the A ten Tournament on Friday.
We've talked Cincinnati Reds in a way to try to
find a way to positively turn what this last hour

(01:58:05):
has had to be based on the Cincinnati Bearcats. I
want to find something positive with the Cincinnati Reds, and
they have that in Ellie de la Cruz. But a
big part of the success or lack thereof the success
of this team this year is going to rest on
Matt McClain, who's hitting in even three hundred through thirty
spring training at bats. But we have a little bit

(01:58:27):
of audio here with I believe this was MLB Network
with Matt McClain starting with the shoulder injury.

Speaker 5 (01:58:31):
Feels great, brand new, feels like, I feel strong and
I'm ready to go.

Speaker 9 (01:58:37):
What was it like going through that last year?

Speaker 5 (01:58:39):
Yeah, it wasn't fun. It was a part of the process.
You know, It's a part of sports injuries and stuff
like that. So I did the best that I could
with it, and I learned from it, and I'm moved
on from it.

Speaker 3 (01:58:49):
I'm ready to go now.

Speaker 34 (01:58:51):
It's a position change now, Ellie de la Cruz has
since emerged taken over shortstop.

Speaker 9 (01:58:55):
How much second base have you played growing up?

Speaker 5 (01:58:57):
I played second base two years in high school. Other
than that, you know, I've just kind of moved around.

Speaker 31 (01:59:02):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:59:03):
I've always prided myself on being able to play the
game wherever and being able to play it at a
high level no matter where what position I play. So
I've messed around with it, but coming up I was
mostly a shortstop, but I did play two years in
high school.

Speaker 9 (01:59:14):
At a second, how is your sink together?

Speaker 34 (01:59:17):
Because it's different, right as far as like, you know,
working together.

Speaker 9 (01:59:20):
How would you guys work together?

Speaker 5 (01:59:22):
Yeah? We worked together every day, you know, early work,
getting out there, turning a lot of double plays, learning
each other. I think that's one of the things that
I had to learn is sometimes learning his range on
balls that he's gonna come across right. So it's fun
and it takes some pressure off me, honestly, and I
like to do the same for him when I'm playing
all the way over on alrighty being able to come

(01:59:42):
around on a slow ball. So we're continuing to learn
that stuff. But we work really well together.

Speaker 9 (01:59:47):
I'm just thinking about it now.

Speaker 34 (01:59:48):
You have to adjust to his speed, I would imagine,
because like if you go your left and you turn
and you look, you got to feed the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:59:53):
Yeah, I would imagine.

Speaker 34 (01:59:54):
We describe sometimes he's a little faster there than you think.

Speaker 5 (01:59:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And it's nice knowing when there's a
double play you can just to him because he's such
a good athlete and he's gonna get the ball to
first with that arm.

Speaker 34 (02:00:03):
Two years ago, you know you were breaking out at shortstop.
You're slugging five hundred and a whole bunch of you guys,
I just like a merged weren't all rookies, but you're
all like kind of early. Do you think you can
get it all back together this year because two years
ago there was so much promise?

Speaker 5 (02:00:17):
Absolutely? You know, health is obviously the biggest, uh top
priority for us. But if we have everyone healthy, we
everyone can get wrong. At the same time, there's no
reason that this team shouldn't be in it deep into October.

Speaker 3 (02:00:29):
All right, there we go deep into October.

Speaker 2 (02:00:31):
There's some positivity October baseball for the Cincinnati Reds again.
You can see Matt McLean in action today. He's batten
second as the Reds take on the Rangers at four
oh five. We have a minute before we're gonna break
for Moegar. Brian is calling in.

Speaker 3 (02:00:46):
What's up? Brian?

Speaker 6 (02:00:49):
Hey? What's up?

Speaker 28 (02:00:50):
Guys?

Speaker 6 (02:00:50):
How y'all doing good?

Speaker 3 (02:00:51):
How are you?

Speaker 6 (02:00:53):
I'm good?

Speaker 5 (02:00:53):
Man?

Speaker 31 (02:00:53):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (02:00:54):
You know what?

Speaker 14 (02:00:55):
Man I am? I am just like tired of beating
my head again in the wall about Mike Brown in
the way they do business. And I totally do not
believe that Katie and whoever Troy, whoever Duke, whoever does
the you know, runs the numbers, do not understand the

(02:01:18):
way the NFL.

Speaker 6 (02:01:19):
Is ran today.

Speaker 14 (02:01:21):
They rather do it their way, and that's the way
Mike Brown has always been. So I'm tired of beating
my head against the wall. I'm not gonna I'm not
gonna go crazy about the Bengals because one thing we
can say is that even though the Bengals do things
this way, two years ago, we were a couple of
plays away from winning the Super Bowl. Yes, now, that

(02:01:41):
could be based that could be based on the the
you know, spectacular talent that you have, like the generational
quarterback that you have and you know, the players around him.
But we do keep in mind that Joe took like
an enormous amount of sacks.

Speaker 6 (02:01:59):
The defense wasn't that great.

Speaker 14 (02:02:01):
You know, all the defense to me has to be
is okay. You know, and last year we have to
definitely have to put starting so slow, and you know
that's one thing that you know, it's huge for this
team is to get out the gate fast because I
think the Zach Taylor is on the hot seat if
he can't get out the gate fast enough, the Bengals

(02:02:23):
will fire him.

Speaker 6 (02:02:24):
But to my point, let.

Speaker 14 (02:02:28):
The Bengals do the things that I think they set
money aside for Chase Tea and whatever else they want
to do. As long as the Bengals can just be
as good as they were last year, defense needs.

Speaker 6 (02:02:41):
To be a little bit better.

Speaker 14 (02:02:43):
It makes no sense to go crazy because this is
the way they always do things.

Speaker 2 (02:02:48):
Yeah, frustrating, Thank you, Brian got We gotta get to
a break, Yeah, Austin. The thing about the slow start,
we made some of the distract last year an excuse
for some of the slow start. Now we're talking about
some of these contract negotiations going deep into the offseason

(02:03:09):
that would create more distractions, which could lend itself to
another slow start, which is team we know can't afford.
Let's take ourselves a break. Moagger, I'm sure is ready
to talk about this UC game when we return. It's
quick Hits on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, thanks
to Penn Station.

Speaker 9 (02:03:25):
From the clements, heating and air attempts.

Speaker 1 (02:03:27):
On ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports station, It's time for
Cincy three sixty quick hits on ESPN fifteen.

Speaker 3 (02:03:36):
Was looking for Mo Moe's not here yet.

Speaker 2 (02:03:38):
Welcome back Cincy three to sixty thanks to Penn Station
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station again real quick, just
to recap Bengals moves made in the last twenty four hours.

Speaker 3 (02:03:49):
There it is, Well, technically they made it official. Mark
Marco Wilson, De Marco. There, it is Marco Wilson. He's
ready to go. Marco Wilson kind of has some swag though,
sure like that. I think that forty two is one
of those numbers that looks really good on a Bengals uniform. Okay,
got the visor. He locked up Old Buddy during the

(02:04:11):
Monday night game and he tweeted that he gonna play
hard for us. So I'm all in on Marco Wilson.

Speaker 2 (02:04:17):
Well, if he's opmately saying he's willing to play hard,
maybe Wes Miller should go after him. They're desperately trying
to find anyone that can play hard for that team.
Thanks to James Rapine today, Red's in action at four
to five this afternoon, UC falls by twenty to Iowa State.
Next up tonight, Iowa Ohio State play tomorrow, big day

(02:04:38):
for Xavier winning their in UK is also at nine
thirty tomorrow night, and Louisville plays at seven. Outside of that,
not else, Not much going on with the Red Bengals.
Lack of moves so far. So Moweger's here. Mowegar just
put himself through the same pain that I'm sure so
many of us did, and now mercifully mo the Bearcat

(02:05:01):
season is over.

Speaker 9 (02:05:04):
The Crown.

Speaker 3 (02:05:04):
No, no, the Crown. I don't want to do it,
Crown Royale. Maybe that's right.

Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
I have questions for you, So before we do that,
I want to know what's on your show today.

Speaker 33 (02:05:13):
Well, we're gonna talk about how you can't lose to Villanova.
You can't lose to Utah, you can't lose twice to
Kansas State, you can't lose to Oklahoma State. You can't
go one and three against Baylor and West Virginia. You
can't make a game today mean the world? Like this
is supposed to be a house money week, right, This

(02:05:33):
is supposed to be a fun week where you're not
stressing it out and you're not playing games like Xavier's
in this position tomorrow where they it feels like they
have to beat Marquette. Maybe there's a path where they
still get in. There's gonna be some teams today that
Musketeer fans will be playing close attention to. But you
don't want to have to be in this position now.
Xavier is playing better. Xavier is a better team right now.

(02:05:54):
So you can talk about UC versus Iowa State. I
would have loved to have watched that game, shrugged my
shoulders and said, see you Sunday.

Speaker 3 (02:06:01):
Sunday.

Speaker 9 (02:06:01):
So we were going to talk about that.

Speaker 33 (02:06:03):
Wes Miller is going into a very very weird and
awkward and tough fifth year at UC, and so we
we're going to spend some time on that. Urgency is
not the word that I think most of us would
use to describe this week for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 3 (02:06:20):
No, and it should be.

Speaker 33 (02:06:23):
We will discuss because the Bengals are in a very
unique situation that I think is different than at any
point in the franchise's history. At any point in the
franchise's history, I think twenty twenty five is the most
important season in the history of the Cincinnati Bengals. Yeah,
and I don't think it's frankly that debatable. So we
will spend some time on that. Rick Browing's going to

(02:06:44):
join us on the Muskies and the Norse as we
look ahead to Xavier versus Marquette tomorrow, the offseason for
NKU hoops. One or two other things we are working
on as well that I'm not at liberty to tell
you what they are because I don't know if they're happening.

Speaker 2 (02:07:00):
Was Tyler McKinley, in your opinion, going to be a
big difference maker this year?

Speaker 33 (02:07:04):
I think he would have given them a big that
could have helped.

Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
Yeah, my question.

Speaker 33 (02:07:10):
I think he would have given them a front court
depth that they lacked.

Speaker 2 (02:07:15):
Outside of that, outside of McKinley for much of for
the whole season, you knew who you were. Yeah, And
you went into a game today and you got dominated
in the paint thirty six sixteen. The other team shot
fifty four percent from the field, and you got out rebounded,
which has been the case in seemingly every game this year.
You got out rebounding forty one to twenty three. It's

(02:07:35):
not ideal for disease bandago to get into foul trouble,
but last year down the stretched I watched a guy
in Jamil Reynolds shrink to zero role on this team.
And much like this year, I watched Errington Page shrink
to zero role on this team. On a day like
today where the other team is bullying you, I feel
like you have two options. You either have to play

(02:07:57):
Errington Page or can you try a zone anything to
stop the onslaught that was just get the ball and
get to the paint and bully this team. It felt
like many times this year I didn't see any type
of in game adjustment.

Speaker 3 (02:08:12):
Not a lot, no lot that to me.

Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
We've talked about effort, and we've talked about the hustle
and getting out rebounded. It's not the Cincinnati basketball that
I ever remember watching. But they got bullied today and
there was zero answer in forty minutes of getting bullied,
and they quit down the stretch. The last four minutes
of the game, they quit. Yep, there has to be

(02:08:36):
something more than that.

Speaker 33 (02:08:37):
But here's the thing, you know, I talked about this,
I think on Monday, I was asked, is this the
most disappointing Bearcat team in the last thirty years? And
I think it's It depends on your expectations. I guess
I think it's unique in its disappointment from two standpoints,
One is West Miller's predecessors, and I'll remove John Brandon

(02:08:59):
from the equation because he just wasn't here all that long.
But Wes Miller's predecessors had disappointing seasons, had seasons where
the team itself didn't necessarily come together, or they had
earlier round exits that were massively disappointing, but you still
felt like, you know what next year will be okay,
because this is the sort of team the coach is

(02:09:20):
going to put on the floor, and in a different era,
because year to year you had a better idea of
who was going to be on the team. So you
have the failure to live up to expectations combined with
at best uncertainty surrounding the head coach. Like even his
biggest proponents would say that like about Wes, like man,
I don't know, like nobody is banging the table going
yes he is the guy, so I think that makes

(02:09:42):
it unique. But also we again will spend less time
talking about the results and more time talking about things
that have been deeply ingrained into this program for a
long time, like effort.

Speaker 2 (02:09:54):
But you said it's going into year five yeah, what
do you hang your hat on right now? This was
his roster. I don't know what the idea is. I
don't know what the identity.

Speaker 3 (02:10:00):
If you see basketball is they splashed in the portal.

Speaker 9 (02:10:05):
This is a high priced roster. Correct.

Speaker 33 (02:10:07):
Look, I don't think Arrington Page would have made much
of a difference. But the but the overall point to
me is it's March. What's the day of the twelfth.
This was the thirty second, thirty third game, and we're
still wondering who you could play in a game like that.

Speaker 2 (02:10:18):
But the problem is it's not so much could he
have made a difference? Show me that he can't make
a difference, because what was the alternative? I have no
problem to get bodied, but I have no problem with that.
But the thing is, like you still like you still
look at a team and you're like, who can I
count on? So you can't count on Arrington Page, who
is a year two power for college basketball player? Like

(02:10:39):
on a game to game basis, you don't know what
you can count on. Early in the season, as he's
Mandega was awesome. I'm sorry early in the season. Semos
Lukashchos is awesome. In the second half, of the season
he was the exact opposite. I also think like one
of the things you have to answer for is like,
like a guy like Victor Lock and leaves here and
goes and plays really well.

Speaker 3 (02:10:58):
So a great year this year.

Speaker 33 (02:10:59):
A big part of it naa tournament team, So like,
what's this Program's had a very weird juncture right now?

Speaker 3 (02:11:05):
Man, Yeah, and uneasy.

Speaker 33 (02:11:08):
I thought after each of the last seasons, I could
say relative to expectation and where the program was and
what they were trying to dig out of, I thought
Wes did a good job. It's hard to say that now.
They went seven and thirteen in the league. They were
the fourteenth rank in the country, fourteenth ranked team in
the country early in the season, and now won't even
come close to having their name called on selection Sunday.

(02:11:28):
They were bullied often this year, They were blown out
often this year. The effort was questioned often this year.
And does a lot of that reflect on the players?
Sure it does, but it mostly reflects and I hate
to say this because I genuinely like him, A lot
of it as on the coach.

Speaker 2 (02:11:43):
And now a very interesting time with the portal opening
up soon. What this roster will even look like before
you get to the offseason. And it's also a reason
that I tip my cap to Sean Miller because Triory
was supposed to be there. Big twelve and ten last
year gets hurt before the season's ours. Freemanles got to
slide to the five, and they're still vulnerable if you

(02:12:03):
play against a dominant big.

Speaker 3 (02:12:05):
But they've made it work.

Speaker 2 (02:12:07):
They've adjusted to what their roster excels at and what
they struggle with, and they're playing to get in the
NCAA tournament. I just didn't see that from UC No.
I didn't see the end season nor in game adjustments
that you want to see.

Speaker 33 (02:12:19):
I saw Sean Miller's team get better, and it matter west.
Miller's team did win five out of seven at one point,
and I even talked about God, I wish it was January.
But you know, Shawn's team still held its own against Connecticut,
still held its own against Creighton. Beatran down the end
of the year, go to Marquette. They go to Marquette
and win right when it felt like the season was
teetering on the brink. They should have beaten Yukon twice,

(02:12:40):
did beat him a second time, Like they're playing well
at precisely the right time, and they probably do need
to win tomorrow, but I think the feel is different.

Speaker 9 (02:12:49):
By the way.

Speaker 33 (02:12:49):
Sean Miller is also a proven head coach at a
high level, and so even if things don't work out,
you could say, well, you know, we still believe in
Sean Miller. I don't know a Cat fan right now
that is saying that about Wes.

Speaker 2 (02:13:02):
Yeah, very very uneasy time. So with that, enjoy the
next three hours. Can't wait getting to rehash most of it.
Be a very fun week for the Bengals as well.
It's a sincey three things through its cinty three sixty.
Thanks for joining us today, yep, Enjoy the rest of
your Wednesday. Will do it again tomorrow with no Bearcat
game to watch as the show goes on for now,
but will don't get Peacock here fifteen on Peacock tomorrow,
