Speaker 1 (00:00):
Skyline Chile. Since he three to sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in part by Skyline Chile. Stop by Skyline Chili
through a three way or cheeze Coney today, feeling good,
It's Skyline time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
All right, here we go, Chad Breundle sitting in today, Tomorrow, Monday,
here on Sincy three sixty while Austin Elmore hopefully is
able to find a way to enjoy his trip to
(00:43):
Green Bay for the Bengals and the Packers. I suggested
you kind of do that win in Rome thing and
in green Bay, Wisconsin, they drink a lot. I recommended
that as a way to spend the next couple of
days for Austin. Hope he does, Hope he enjoys himself.
(01:03):
He'll be back on Tuesday. Like I said, I am.
I am in until then joining me today Drew Wester
Heidi on the ones and twues. And I'm gonna be honest, guys,
this sucks. I really don't want to be here. I
don't I don't want to have to do this, but
(01:25):
uh but I agreed to uh to fill in for
these days, and uh here I am so we we
pushed forward. But I I'm I know you you heard
a lot from from Austin yesterday, you heard a lot
from MO yesterday. And I definitely can't say it as
well as them. They they worked with Tony Pike every day. Uh,
(01:49):
but I've been friends with Tony for a long time
and uh we we've worked together many many times over
the years, and it's it's awful. Tony's got a great family, love,
his love, his wife. I've I've gotten to know his
(02:11):
kids through different events and and them being around over
the years. And uh, you know this, this feels wrong
for me to be sitting here and doing this. I
know feels wrong for you for you guys to be
sitting there and listening to me doing this. But here
(02:34):
we are, and that's that's the reality of life sometimes.
And I I hate it because Tony aside and I
have countless wonderful things to say about Tony, but Tony Aside,
(02:57):
I hate this just as much because sports coverage in
this city got worse yesterday. This is a town with
good sports coverage, but it's not a town with a
lot of sports coverage. It's not a town that is
busting at the seams with outlets covering the teams. I
(03:20):
know that because I've lived it for nineteen years. It
is a town that relies on what we have to
be very good to be one of us. And I've
(03:41):
thought about this a lot over the past twenty four hours.
Notice there's not a lot of outsiders in this town
doing this. Almost everybody is either from Cincinnati or from
Ohio that grew up rooting for Cincinnati teams, teams that
that grew up with skin in the game. There's nobody
(04:05):
with more skin in the game than Tony Pike. There's
nobody doing this. What you got You gotta go back
kind of to to Joe Nuxhall as a local that
that made a path, that did this at a high level,
(04:30):
that knew what it meant. And that was one of
the things that that Tony was able to bring to
the airwaves that was so unique is not only was
he a great player, Tony goes into the UC Hall
of Fame very soon, he uh, he meant a lot,
(04:53):
not only as the quarterback of those UC teams that
made use football fans believe that that type of success
was even possible, but he was one of us. He
lived and died every Sunday with the Bengals. He lived
(05:14):
and died with every Reds game. Trust me, more than anything,
he lived and died with UC basketball. I got the
brunt of that more often than not, because Tony always
wanted to talk about it because it impacted him, because
he had skin in the game. And it's almost impossible
(05:34):
these days to find somebody that reached the level of
success that Tony achieved as an athlete in this town
that also was able to sit here in this chair,
talk into this microphone and resonate with the fans because
(05:58):
it was real. Because I've I've been in here on
a on a Wednesday after a tough UC loss and
seen how it impacted Tony's mood. He was just a
normal guy when it came to that. Put the quarterback aside.
Tony wanted nothing more than for UC to get a
(06:19):
win that Tuesday night, and they lost a heartbreaker, or
or they lost a game that you know, maybe they
were favored to win and and and didn't get the
job done, didn't play well, and that resonated. And there's
very little of that, especially at that level, from a
former athlete that had accomplished all that Tony had accomplished,
(06:42):
because let's be real, a lot of times those people
aren't in touch with that. They're not fans, they're analysts,
they're they're breaking down games, they're talking about what they see,
and they're very good at it, but you can tell
they can't feel it. And from the time he started
(07:07):
in radio to yesterday, you could feel it. With Tony,
it mattered, It meant something. He tossed and turned at
night in his bed after a tough UC basketball loss,
after a tough Bengals loss, because he grew up the
same way we all did, watching games with our families, dad, grandpa, brothers, cousins,
(07:35):
whatever it may be. And that was the rare thing
that Tony brought to this show, to these airwaves, to
this station. And it got worse now that he's not
(07:56):
currently part of that system, not having his ability to
break things down, to explain things while not talking over
the head of somebody that didn't play high, high level
quarterback in college and make it to the NFL. He
(08:20):
made you understand it. He was able to sit in
this chair and every day, Monday through Friday, twelve to
three give an expert opinion from somebody that cared when's
the next time that's going to come along. If it's
not Tony Pike. That's what stinks because he, you know,
(08:46):
he wasn't great at when he great at it when
he started, but you could tell he was very natural
at it. He's very conversational, somebody that drew you in,
and he worked hard at it, and we would bust
his chops early on in his and his tenure here
that yeah, maybe had too many crutch words or what
(09:08):
you know, whatever, whatever broadcasting inadequacies he had early in
his career, but he worked at it. He got better,
and he attracted an audience, and he made this station
better every day, and now it supports coverage in this
(09:32):
town lost one of its vocal leaders, one of its
most prominent figures, and that stinks because there's not enough
of us out here to begin with. So to take
one of the guys from the top of the food
chain is painful. And I've dreaded doing this since I
(09:58):
found out yesterday that Tony wasn't going to be here,
since I found out why, I was asked to fill
in today, tomorrow and Monday. And I hate it. I
hate it because the people in this town, and you
(10:20):
could see it yesterday, how angry people were, how upset
people were, how many people had organized their day starting
at noon, running all the way to six o'clock listening
to Tony and Austin here and then mo after and
Austin's going to carry on this show and it'll still
(10:42):
be a good show. Austin has gotten really good at this.
But even Austin will tell you part of the reason
he's gotten really good at this not only is because
of his hard work and his dedication and how many
hours he's put into it, but because he got to
sit next to Tony, because they got to work together
(11:06):
and build something together, and they were able to do
something that in the sports media world, in the internet
media world that is twenty twenty five, is almost impossible.
(11:27):
They built a community. That's what generates success now. Your
ability to build a community, Your ability to build people
that are that feel connected, that feel like even though
(11:48):
they've maybe never met you, or they've met you once
or twice, that they know you. And one of the
ways they did that and this was always fascinating to me.
I don't know if you guys realize, Like talkbacks were
rolled out to the entire country at iHeartMedia, entire country,
any station, pull it up, listen to the show, hit
(12:11):
the microphone, leave a talkback. This show. This show is
the only show I know of in the country that
turned it into something that took it and ran with it.
And by doing that, they built their community. I've heard
(12:31):
it mentioned. Austin said this to me yesterday. So it's
a cult like following why because they understood, and Tony
was a big part of that. They understood that interaction,
that connectivity, that feeling like you're part of the show
is what made this show so successful over the past
(12:56):
five years or so, because you felt like you were
a part of it, and Tony brought you in and
you felt like every time you left a talk back,
you were sitting there with Tony and Austin and you
were you were part of this. And that's been in
some ways ripped away. And everybody's mad. I'm mad. Stinks.
(13:21):
Stinks walking in this building and Tony not being here.
Talk to my dad on the way in today said
that he's upset because it had become a part of
his day. Twelve to three listening to Tony and Austin,
(13:43):
it's it's frustrating. And you know, again, I could say
a million great things about Tony and we could. We
could go till twelve thirty with this segment, me giving
stories and anecdotes of of all the times that the
toe he had me cracking up. You know, sidelines of
games that you see when he's sideline reporting. We would
(14:06):
generally powow at halftime and discuss what was going on,
what we were seeing. Sometimes it was the highest of highs.
They really gonna do that? Are they really gonna make
it to the college football playoff tonight?
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Too?
Speaker 2 (14:21):
It's bad, bro, this is bad. I don't want I'm
ready to take the rest of the day off. Do
we have to do this? We have to go four quarters?
Can we just end here? Tony's gonna land on his feet.
That's he will. Hopefully it's something to do with Cincinnati
sports again, because I think the Cincinnati sports landscape got
(14:44):
worse yesterday and it will continue to be worse until
or if Tony Pike finds his way back into this stratosphere,
into this arena because he was really freaking good at it.
There's very few people out there you can listen around
(15:04):
the country. There's very few people out there that were
able to balance being an expert, being somebody that sees
things from a different lens because they lived it and
mixes it with just being a guy from reading that
you can go find hanging out at Augie's. That's hard.
(15:26):
It's hard. How do I know it's hard because there's
so few people out there that can do it, and
Tony is one of them that could. And I'm still
angry that, for whatever reason, that came to a close yesterday.
Drew and I are going to do our best to
(15:49):
get this show through the next couple of days. Drew,
you're here today. I think I think Taren is gonna
be with me Monday and Friday and Monday. Drew, you
haven't had an opportunity to speak on it. Would you
like a moment? I'll take a moment. I'll be brief.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
I've started here, I've been working here for a little
over two years now. Austin and me go back to
high school. He's the reason I got my foot in
the door here. So I have a lot to thank
for Austin to getting me where I am.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
But I worked on this show.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
I want to say it was probably three weeks after
I started and Austin was gone somewhere, so I got
to work with Tony.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
First time i'd ever met Tony.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
And you know, I didn't grow up watching UC football,
so I didn't really you know, I I remember the name.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
I didn't know much about him. You know, I knew
he was good at.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Football, but I could tell from the first conversation I
had with him, how genuine of a guy he was,
how easy going and easy to talk to he was.
And he made me a part of this show right away,
not even asking if I had ever talked into him
I care. He didn't care. He was like, yeah, you know, Drew,
(17:01):
what do you think about this? I think it was
about you know, the Bengals or something, and I, you know,
I spoke. And I always treasured the opportunities I got
to come on this show because, as you talked about,
the community of people that this show cultivated was very
very cool and very very unique across sports talk radio.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
I listened to a lot of sports talk radio shows.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
I listened to a lot of sports podcast and this
one is always my favorite to listen to. Even when
I wasn't working on it, I would tune in and
listen because I respected Tony and I always wanted to
hear what he had to say and what Austin had
to say. So when I found out the news that
Tony had been let go, I was you know, I
was devastated, and I just want to take this chance.
(17:46):
If Tony's listening, I hope he isn't. I hope he's
enjoying his something I always on the golf course chasing
like a little white ball around Today it's a beautiful,
beautiful day outside. But if he is, I just want
to say thank you from the bottom of my heart
for giving me a chance to be on these airwaves
and talk about sports in Cincinnati. It's something you know,
(18:08):
I've always kind of thought I've wanted to do with
my life, and you know, Tony was kind of the
first person who opened that door for me. So I'll
forever be indebted to him, forever thankful for him, and
much like you, it stinks to be sitting in this
chair today doing the show without him, but we gotta
press on. We got to talk. We've got a job
to do. We do and let's go do the job.
(18:30):
So talkbacks today, didn't run him yesterday. I think you
guys can understand why. It's a lot of emotion. There's
a lot of anger. I get it. I have a
lot of emotion. I have a lot of anger.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Drew and I want to do talkbacks today, but we
can't do talkbacks if they're not reasonable. You want to
talk sports, let's talk sports. You want to leave a
message for Tony, leave a message for Tony. You wanna
(19:06):
vent your frustrations at iHeart, it's probably not the format
to do that. Why Mainly it doesn't bother me any
Like I've got I'm good. I don't need this. I
do this kind of for fun. I'm good. But but
Drew has a job. Drew needs a job, yes, and
(19:26):
we do not want to Ultimately, Drew is responsible for
what is played from that computer onto the airwaves. And
Drew I would never ask Drew to put him in
a position, put himself in a position to put that
in jeopardy. So keep that in mind. You want to
talk Bengals packers, Please please for Drew, for Drew, do
(19:47):
this for Drew. You want to talk Bengals packers, Let's
talk Bengals packers. You want to talk you see Central Florida,
Middle Florida, Institute of Hospitality, as I've been calling it
this week. Do that you want to you wanna tell
Tony you love him and that you miss him and
that you hope to hear him soon somewhere. Do that.
(20:10):
But I'm sure you guys can understand. They're they're gonna
be screened. We can't let anything through that would cause problems.
Are there some things we'd like to let through that
would cause problems? Maybe because this isn't this isn't a
Cincinnati thing. This is a corporate thing. There's nothing that
was done here on this level that put us in
(20:31):
this position. So I'm mad talk back at Chad. Let's
not do that. Let's not do that. If you if
you want to do I'm mad, tweet at Chad. You
can tweet at me, and that's fine, and maybe I'll
I'll censor it and edit it and read it on
the air. But let's do talkbacks today. But let's try
(20:58):
our best to stay within the lines. Let's color within
the lines on talkbacks today. How's that, Drew? Is that
a good way to put it? That's a good way
to put it, because I've colored out of the lines
for like twenty five hours now. But we got a
show to do. That show will include Richard Skinner. At
(21:19):
one o'clock, we'll do talkbacks in their normal spot. After
we talked to Skinny and I figured Drew, I had
to offer a peace offering, Ama kulpa if you will,
and so I reached out, and today at two o'clock,
we will talk to the head coach of the Cincinnati
Bearcats basketball program, Wes Miller, to get an update on
(21:41):
the preseason. They are eight days away drew from their
first exhibition game of the preseason as they head up
to ann Arbor to take on a top five loaded
Michigan Wolverine squad. So, last at two o'clock, we'll talk
(22:01):
some UC basketball, we'll talk some UC football, we'll talk
some Bengals. We'll talk to Skinny, we'll talk to Wes.
We're gonna entertain you. We're gonna do our best. I
don't know if we'll make you laugh a whole lot today,
even though hopefully we get there. Let's take a break
and we'll get this show started. More after this SINCY
three sixty, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Now your chance to win one thousand in the NATI
brought to you by Postman Law on ESPN fifteen thirty,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Okay, Drew Well deep cut like it Welcome back Sincy
three sixty right here on Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Time
talk some football. Let's let's get the let's refocus, Drew.
(22:59):
We guys shift. It's like a cornerback that just got beat. Right,
you got snap and clear, Get back to the line
of scrimmage, Get ready for the next rep. Short memory,
short memory, got to talk some football. Time to talk
some Bengals. And the only way I can really look
at this Joe Flacco thing, Drew, And this is what
came to my brain, like immediately when I saw it
(23:22):
Tuesday afternoon sitting up at UC It's a hail Mary. Yeah,
it's a hail Mary because there's nothing left after this,
Like you're not just if Joe Flacco doesn't work out
a month from now, you're not then going and trading
(23:42):
for Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston like like this is
you know, Joe Burrow got hurt. You had a backup plan.
That backup plan was terrible, just whatever, for whatever reason,
it did not work this time for for Jake Browning.
(24:03):
So you have broken glass in case of emergency, and
you brought in Joe Flacco for a pickswap. I mean,
it's essentially a non factor what they gave up to
get him. But this is kind of it for this
twenty twenty five Bengals squad, and quite frankly, maybe it
(24:25):
for this iteration of Cincinnati Bengals football is we know it,
and I don't know what to think of it. Drew Like,
on one hand, I can look at it and say,
Joe Flacco is gonna know the assignment here right, He's
gonna have more weapons to work with than at any
other point in his career. He is gonna go behind center,
(24:48):
from the shotgun under center, whatever it is, and he's
gonna know he's got Jamar and t and Giseki and
Chase Brown, and he's gonna know he's in pos position
to be successful. But he's also forty years old. I
(25:09):
think him and I move it about the same clip,
and I am no longer spry, and he's playing behind
a disaster of an offensive line. So I can see
a path to this being somewhat successful. Do I see
a path to this, like the Bengals get back in
(25:31):
the mix, and now you know, it's late December and
Joe Burrow returns and the Bengals are charging for the
playoffs and ready to take a run at the super Bowl. No,
I don't see that. But do I see a land
where Joe Flacco can keep this team afloat and prevent
them from the worst case disaster scenario, which is scrapping
(25:56):
everything but you know the main part and having to
start over. And I I, I don't know which way
I lean Drew, I don't. I don't know which way
I think this is gonna go.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
You know, this is fascinating to me because I watched
I talked about this a little bit yesterday with Austin,
but I watched just about every snap Joe Flacco took
for the Browns this year. And he's going from an
offensive line that was not good to another offensive line
that's not good. A lot of Browns fans would say
that the Bengals offensive line is worse. I think they're
(26:30):
about the same. They're both crappy. So but the point
of this, these guys are the best weapons he's ever
had on a football field in his entire career, going
back to Baltimore, his stops in New York, his stop
in Denver, his first tenure in Cleveland, by far the
best weapons he's ever had to work with. So if
(26:52):
you can dial up and scheme up ways to get
the ball out of his hands quickly and effectively, I
do think this could Now he can't move, as you
so eloquently put it, he can't move.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
So you know, if you.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Have one breakdown along that offensive line for not even
a long developing play like a medium developing, it could
go horribly. The other part of this is that the
Bengals have not shown the effectiveness of running the football
yet this year, and I think that is part of
what made Joe successful in Cleveland in twenty twenty three
(27:31):
was they weren't a great running team, but they could
at least do it effectively in spurts to open up
the play action game. It's what didn't work for the
Browns in the first games that he played with them
this year. The Browns can run the ball until Quinhawn
Junkins got on the field. Why wasn't Quinjohn Jenkins on
the field to begin for doing things that allegedly happened
(27:52):
and then were dropped. Yes, but that's besides the point.
So do I think, like, do I think you could
win some game for the Bengals?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
I do. Do I think they're gonna win on Sunday?
Speaker 5 (28:02):
No?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
I do not.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
You know, going into lambeau Field and having to face them,
and you know, the everyone's making the big deal by like, well,
you already beat the Packers, Like, well, you don't think
the Packers are going to look across there and see
Joe Flacco and go, oh, we.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Get to face this guy again. Did the Bengals get
Miles Garrett for this weekend? Did they get him also
in the trade?
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Not that I am aware of. If they did, I
would I would be much much more angry right now.
But I don't think it's gonna happen this week. And
then you know, you get you get Pittsburgh, who is
I think the most unconvincing three and one team in
the NFL, the most convincing, unconvincing one lost team in
the NFL, if you ask me, And then your schedule
(28:46):
lightens up a little bit. You get the Jets, get
the Bears, then you have the Buy, then you get
the Steelers again, and then you have the run of Patriots, Ravens,
Bills Ravens where Lamar is you know, assuming Lamar is healthy?
So know, do I think this is a move that
gets the Bengals into the playoffs?
Speaker 6 (29:04):
No?
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Is this a move that I think the Bengals had
to make, Yes, whether it be for Joe Flacco or
somebody else, because you could not, absolutely could not move
forward with Jake Browning being your starting quarterback after how
he has played the last three games.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Yeah, you were going to lose the locker room, you
were gonna lose the fan base. You're gonna lose Jamar. Yes,
and t and you know, Te's kind of quiet, but
behind the scenes, like you were not. You were not
going to be taken seriously if you continued to run
Jake Browning out there. Correct, And I'll pose this question
(29:39):
to you.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Do you think there is another quarterback not named Joe
Burrow or Joe Flacco or Jake Browning that takes a
snap for the Bengals this year?
Speaker 2 (29:50):
I mean there might be there. They're very well might be.
Do I think there's a.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Like, do you think Sean Clifford is going to get
a snap at some point?
Speaker 3 (30:00):
This year.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I don't know that somebody on the roster per se,
But do you feel healthy that or feel feel like
positive that Joe Flacco is.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Not gonna I mean, all it takes is one big shot, right,
you know, badass defensive end.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
That's what I'm saying. There a defensive tackle to just
squash him because the Bengals can't can't protect anybody at guard.
So I mean, I wouldn't bet on that. I would
take somebody else besides those guys take a snap by
the end of the year just because I Flacco sprains
(30:38):
an ankle or you know, lands lands wrong on a
on a shoulder, something along those lines. I don't but
the way that this line is operated, I wouldn't have
any confidence in that, would you.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Absolutely? I think there will be somebody else that takes
a snap. I don't necessarily want to say starts, but yeah,
coming in during the game, Yeah and spell somebody. Yeah,
because I I just I don't know. And like I said,
I think I said it yesterday. I've watched I watched
almost every snap and it was not good. It was
(31:15):
about the third quarter of the Detroit Lions game where
I was I've seen enough. Yeah, give me the five
nine Hawaiian kid. Jure, what do you think do we
open the phones?
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Let's do it. Let's open the phones for the rest
of the hour, and then we'll have Local twelve Skinny.
We'll have Richard Skinner from Local twelve on at one.
Then we'll do talkbacks. Remember, remember you don't have anything
nice to say, don't say anything at all. We're trying
to keep this show on the air. We're trying to
(31:45):
keep Drew employed, keep Drew employed, keep Drew employed. So
leave talkbacks. But let's keep it civil and uh and
then West Miller at two o'clock as the beat rolls on.
But I want to I want to continue on in
this conversation after the break, if you'd like to chime
in five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty and
(32:07):
UH on the iHeart app. This is Sincy three sixty
right here in Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 7 (32:15):
You've been listening to football in the Natti on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
This is what it sounds like us your story, Oh shorebird.
Speaker 8 (32:31):
It's gonna send one way out of here.
Speaker 9 (32:34):
How far will it finde my goodness, Kyle Schober with
a taste measure shot up on top of the pavilion,
and right that is one of the biggest balls you
will ever see. And the Phillies tie it up immediately
on a shore ball here in the fourth.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
There you go, the winds play of the day. MLB
playoffs rolling along tonight six o'clock. Tell me if this
makes sense, dure six o'clock in La the Phillies and
the Dodgers. So three oh threeho eight local time for
that game, and then tonight at nine o'clock, nine oh
(33:21):
eight local time or eight oh eight local time Milwaukee
and Chicago. Yeah, I don't I don't know about that one.
That I don't know if that tracks the Dodgers up
to one on the Phillies, uh looking to close that out,
Milwaukee up to one on the Cubs as the Brewers
look to close it out, and then uh tomorrow Detroit
(33:45):
and Seattle, that series tied at two. That's been a
fun one. Oh yeah, that's been a fun one series.
Speaker 6 (33:53):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
So MLB playoffs ongoing. I have not had a lot
of time since there it's been eliminated. To keep up
with I watched with the MLB playoffs.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
I watched good parts of just about every game yesterday
i'd liked to. I was in here from twelve to
three and then after when I when I got home
the that Tigers and Mariners game was in about the
fourth inning, and I watched. I pretty much had it
on from the time I went to bed. Some stats
on that Schwarber home run with fifty five bomb and
(34:23):
it left the bat at one hundred and seventeen point
two miles per hour.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
You should have played bombs over Bagdad and the just
the instrumental in the background of that.
Speaker 4 (34:32):
Well, it's Schwarber might have registered as well. I good
lord that ball was. He had another one too later
in the game that was a wall scraper, so that
was quite a Did you quite the pair of home
runs yet?
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Did you see the Fox postgame show with Vladimir Guerrero
Junior and a big Bobby. Yeah, it's the Yankees, Loo,
absolute king. It's always It's one of my favorite days
of the year. I look forward to it every year,
the day that the New York Yankees get eliminae from
the playoffs and they give big Poppy of Mike with
with Jeter and a Rod sitting next to him. I know,
(35:05):
did you see the end? He had a sombrero on
going to Cancun because the Yankees are going to Cancun
because the season's over, And he brought out sombreros for
Jeter and a Rod and made them put the the sombreros.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
I believe this now ties the second longest drought yeah
the world in Yankee history for between world series.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I believe the record is nineteen. I just love a
good like you. I don't know if you've if you
know this from following me on Twitter or not. I
love good trash talk and a rivalry like I just
I love it like it's so much fun. Like that's
what a rivalry should be, is just year round trash
(35:45):
talk with your arrival, good spirited fun. But if you
can't trash talk your arrival, who can you? Trash talk?
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Right?
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Like that should be just the norm. People should not
get in their feelings because your rival is having a
little fun at your expense. That that's how it goes.
All right, let's get out to the phones here real quick. Uh,
we got Jim and Milford wants to talk Joe Flacco. Jim,
(36:18):
how the heck, are.
Speaker 10 (36:18):
You well be Schwarber home run made the past nuts
on the International Space Station.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
They were.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
It was a bomb.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Dude.
Speaker 10 (36:31):
Did you see the reput on that time?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yeah? Yeah, Holy he hit it to Middletown from LA.
Speaker 10 (36:39):
Did the laces come off?
Speaker 2 (36:40):
What?
Speaker 11 (36:41):
Did?
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Did you know he was from Middletown? Kyle Swarber?
Speaker 10 (36:44):
You know corn fed?
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Right?
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Yeah, it's the first I heard of. It was last night.
Speaker 10 (36:51):
If you're not watching a lot of baseball, man, you're
really you're really missing out on the elites.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
I know.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I just haven't had time. My daughter is at the
very end of her volleyball season in high school, and
that like they they're they're They've got matches three nights
a week, and then I've got podcast stuff for the
Bearcat Journal Network, and I just haven't. I haven't been
home or had time. I hate it because it's really
been good baseball.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Yeah, it's not.
Speaker 10 (37:17):
There's no Cinderella story. It's like the elites are really
just battling it out. Yeah, it's not what I called for.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 10 (37:25):
Everybody needs to readjust their expectations because everybody thinks, you know,
either he's going to go in and bomb or he
has the ability to go in and win like seven
games straight. The dude just needs to come in and
get us to nine and eight and just keep us
(37:46):
five hundred or a game or two above, and God
help us. If we can get to ten and seven, uh,
you know, win every other game or something, or you know,
keep us five hundred or a couple of games games
about five hundred. The dude's got the weapons.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I mean, come on, yeah, I mean, here's my thing, Jim.
I think this is the most important stretch of games,
not only for Zach Taylor, but for Duke Tobin, because sure,
if they can put this together and they can stay
in the race and they can get to you know,
ten and seven, nine and eight, you know, and and
and be and hang around in the mix, then there's
(38:27):
some proof of concept for these young guys that have
not worked out yet. If this thing continues to fall apart,
I think you have to make wholesale changes. You have to.
Speaker 10 (38:39):
Who's it on if they go one and six in
the next seven, who's that on.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I think it's on Duke. I think it's his roster.
Speaker 10 (38:49):
I think it's on Zach.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
I think I mean, I think it's also on I'm
not absolving Zach from blame here at all, Jim, but
this is Duke Tobin's roster.
Speaker 10 (38:59):
I think Zach's a pretender. I really do. You might
be right, I don't know. You know what the Sissa
Bengals need. They need a head coach that's really gritty.
Here's the thing, here's the thing with Zach. Zach is
a kind of coach where he goes up to his
player and puts his arm around him and makes you
(39:22):
feel good.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
But Jim, no, no, Jim, you realize that, like for
for years and years and years and years, everybody said
thirty years to be exact, uc needed a coach that
wasn't so much of a a you know what to
his players, right, players coach, a players coach. They need
somebody that related to the players, because Hugs and Mick
(39:43):
spent too much time screaming at him and yelling at him,
and they played too tight and they were always looking
over their shoulder. And then you get a player's coach.
They need a hard like that. It's always the eye.
Whatever you have. If you're winning, it's fine, and if
you're losing, you want the other kind.
Speaker 10 (40:01):
Well, look at Dan Campbell though, sure, but I bet
his players are scared to death. Yeah, but that's a
that's a brainiac.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Okay. You know, there's there's more than.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Zack is not.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
There's more than one way to skin a cat, Jim,
and I always wondered about that one, because why were
people skinning cats?
Speaker 10 (40:24):
I don't know, Jim, Jack. Jack is not a brainiac,
and Zack is not a hard line coach. Okay, he says,
pretender to sits on the side lines and thanks, you know, Okay,
he's jumped the shark man. He just he's in over
his head. That's all I got to say.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
All Right, I appreciate the call, Jim, thank you.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
I would to just want to make one comment about
because I had a feeling when he said that you
need that gritty coach that he was going to go
the Dan Campbell round.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Yeah, because that's the flavor of the month.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
Well, the thing is is that if you really like
pay attention to how Dan Campbell coaches that team, he
isn't like in your face like he is a He
is a player's coach because he you know, he played,
he knows what it takes him. When I was when
they were on hard knocks what this would have been
two years ago now or maybe three years ago. I
(41:16):
was expecting him to be like all in everybody's face
kind of and he straight up was not that.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
And I I I always.
Speaker 4 (41:24):
Found that uh like dichotomy of him very, very fascinating.
I think that's why he's so successful, because he has
struck the balance between making his team a gritty like
drag you into the deep end and fight it out
down here, while at the same time being like, you know,
putting his arm around a guy when he needs to,
or saying the right thing when he needs to. So
(41:45):
I think, you know, Dan Campbell, he's kind of like
a you know, one in a million kind of coach.
And if the Bengals want to hire some big, defensive
minded guy be my guest.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Yeah. Well, I just think it's funny because it's always
the everybody else. If you're not winning, you want the
other kind. Correct. If you're winning, it's fine. The kind
you have is perfect binary business. Let's take a break,
we'll take we'll take whatever it. We'll get to the
phone lines to close out the hour, and then Richard
Skinner at the top of hour two. This is since
he three sixty on Cincinnati's ESPN thirteen thirty. All right,
(42:27):
let's keep it rolling to close out hour number two.
Let's get down on it. Things are going well, Drew,
so far, so good. I know everybody's mad and everybody's upset,
but there's a show to do. We're grinding it out
and for that show. Now we're going to go to
Marcus and Florence. Who wants to talk about Joe Flaco? Marcus,
what's up my brother? Hey? How are you doing? I'm good?
Speaker 3 (42:50):
You? Uh, well good, no matter what under the.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Circumstances, agreed as good as possible.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
How is that right?
Speaker 12 (43:00):
So you could have given me ten to fifteen guesses
last week, Joe FLACKA wouldn't have been number twenty on
my list.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
I thought they would go get But really completely if
you think about it, it makes sense, right, Like looking
back on it now in retrospect, he's safe, he's gonna,
he's gonna. He's a quick learner. You're gonna be able
to teach him the offense and install it quick. You
can get him up to speed by Saturday or Sunday.
It makes sense in retrospect.
Speaker 12 (43:30):
Yeah, I mean on that part, but yeah, I just
look at it more like we should have gotten somebody
that could.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
Run for their life.
Speaker 12 (43:42):
Yeah, he's by far the worst possible person he could
have gotten to run. But I know, like on Mondays
and all that, Tony would do like a video breakdown
of quarterbacks and all that. And there was a lot
of times on Sunday just that alone. How many checks
downs Jake Browning missed on that part of it.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I believe Flacco won't miss those.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
You will find the checkdowns. That's a promise.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
So here, so here's my question.
Speaker 12 (44:13):
Do you think ten wins with the AFC the way
it is gets us in.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
So so, if.
Speaker 12 (44:23):
It's a timetable, the minimum timetable for Burrow, they like
from what when when the thurdery first happened, the the
map out looked like around the Miami Dolphins game would
be his first game back. So that would mean three
games with Joe, the Dolphins, the Cardinals, and the Browns.
If Flacco can get us five wins between now and
(44:44):
then to get us the seven and then we went
out the last three. If Burrow comes back on that
minimum timetable, I mean I would take that at this point.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
I would take that and run with it.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (45:01):
Yeah, I mean so that like that, that's the only
hope I've got. And I mean, I don't know how
this week's.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Gonna go, but I do agree with what.
Speaker 12 (45:08):
Drew said earlier about after this week, the next three
are winnable games with Flacco.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Let's see if they can get through this one and
see where they go from here. Appreciate the cal Marcus.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Yep, I don't agree.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Thank you, John and Boston. One more before we go
to break John. How you doing good?
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Chad good Drew.
Speaker 8 (45:24):
I just want to echo youse statements about Tony's very
well said good man.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Thank you.
Speaker 8 (45:29):
I'm looking at jump ball. Joe Flacco behind this offensive
line is kind of like elderly abuse.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
I mean, it's not he can't move at all.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
It seems not fair. You're gonna have to get it
out quick, Joe.
Speaker 8 (45:41):
Yep, exactly. Yeah, Like I mean when when Big Dan
Joe got hurt a month ago, he got hit one
point three seconds after the snap, I mean, which doesn't
even seem possible that way, but just real quickly, because
you are in there obviously a lot more than the
rest of us. When Joe Burrow put out his Instagram
this game will break your heart.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
See you soon.
Speaker 8 (46:02):
I kind of put that maybe he's a head of schedule.
Speaker 3 (46:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (46:04):
I'm not a doctor, but he seems to be in
a walking boot, not on a scooter, not with a cat.
Maybe he's a little bit ahead of schedule. His dad
had said, he's a fast Steeler. Who knows if you
can get the Bears the Jets, you can split with
the Pittsburgh Steelers now here at five wins, and if
he's back with four or five games left, maybe you're
kind of in there somewhere. That's what the old should be.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
Yeah. I mean.
Speaker 2 (46:26):
The thing that I that you have to think too, though, Jay,
is that you've got to take care of Joe Burrow
long term, and that is a it's a weird injury
like in that spot, like you got to be careful
what you just have to make sure you're not going
to put him back out there at you know, eighty
five percent, because it's not fair to him and your
(46:49):
franchise for the commitment you've made long term. If he
can get back to one hundred percent, sure, that just
seems unlikely at this point.
Speaker 8 (47:00):
Yeah, because you've got so many of those injury concerns
that you would have. Yeah, okay, the toe is healing.
Next thing, you know, the ankle's not so strong. And
then we thought that may be an issue with his
achilles a couple of years ago because of the calf.
And then that's the same leg he had the knee
injury with. So yeah, they're all tied together. Obviously you
want to see him come back because he's such a
great player and a good guy. But you know, obviously
(47:20):
sometimes you have to keep these guys from themselves and
get them back one hundred percent absolutely priority number one.
Speaker 3 (47:26):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
What John, the hip bones connected to the knee bone.
Knee bones connected to the leg bone.
Speaker 8 (47:32):
Yeah, and this poor young man seems to know a
lot about that. Yes, I kind of said, I'm a
quick heeler because I've had a lot of experience. Exactly,
keep them up right. You've got a chance to do
whatever you can do because he's that good.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
All right, Thanks, John, appreciate it. Man, Take care fellas
all right? Break Drew, yep, let's break, all right, let's break.
Richard Skinner next. This is since he thirty sixty, since
at he's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
K wise Cincinnati. Make us the number one pre set
on your car radio and on the free. Knew it improved.
Iheard radio ad free never sounded so good. ESPN fifteen
thirty Hey's Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored
in part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts all Cincy, all Day.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
Here we go, our number two, brought to you by
Cincy Shirts. Here on Cincy three sixty, Drew, was was
there a baseball game on TBS yesterday? Two of them? Okay,
that makes sense because the TV and here is on TBS,
and Friends is on, And every time I watch Friends,
(48:44):
I always wonder why was it so cold on the set?
I wonder why it always looks freezing on that set?
Speaker 4 (48:56):
I guess I never really thought about that, But now
that you say it, yeah it does.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
What do you think Skinny thinks about that? Skinny ever
wonder about that? Why it was so cold on the
Friends set?
Speaker 3 (49:09):
Never once wondered that.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Do you haven't watched close enough?
Speaker 3 (49:16):
I know where you're doing with that. I never thought
about that.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Richard Skinner, Local twelve Digital Content Editor, Skenny, you're often
a voice of reason you're you're somebody I go to to,
uh put things in perspective. What is a reasonable expectation
of what this looks like with Joe Flacco at the
helm for the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
I honestly don't know.
Speaker 10 (49:45):
And I'm being serious about that because.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
No, because the Joe Flacco of earlier this year looked
like a forty year old quarterback that was being played
out of desperation because they had two rookies behind him
up in Cleveland. But the arm is still there. I
think that. I mean, you can even go back all
the way back to Baltimore days. Now, he did have
Steve Smith for a period of time, but for the
most part, he never really had great weapons in the
receiver in Baltimore. Didn't have that in Denver the year
(50:09):
he played in Denver. You know, had it kind of
last year with the Colts, but then their their main
guys got hurt, so he really didn't have it last
year with the Colts. This is probably the best weaponry
he's played with now. Certainly the offensive line is not
the best offensive line he's played behind, and that's gonna
factor into some of this. But I tell you, I
don't I just don't know, because he can still fling it.
(50:30):
I saw some really good things in Cleveland that the
day the Bengals played there. In the opener, you know,
the two interceptions he threw literally were balls that bounced
off of receiver's hand each time, so there were two
ricochets that you know, he gets charged for the interception,
but you know, really that's kind of on the receivers
in the two cases. So I still see him make
some strong arm throws. I just that's why, I just
(50:50):
honestly don't know.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
What does this offense look like Sunday? Like he's he's
gonna have what three days, three prime practices really to
uh to fully walk through? Yeah, two practice is gonna
walk through. I was being kind on the walk through
being a practice, but he's not gonna have enough a
lot of time to get up to speed. What do
you think this offense looks like? And because it's usually
(51:16):
pretty simple, I don't know, as the word it's not
super complex. How much does that help?
Speaker 3 (51:25):
You know? Zach Taylos system just a couple of weeks
ago that that you know, when we look at get
bringing quarterbacks in here, we think our system is one
that they can pick up pretty quickly. Like the verbiage
is probably similar to other playbooks and all those things too.
You've got a pretty smart guy. Joe Flacto is a
smart dude. He's done this before. We did this two
years ago in Cleveland. Came off the couch and was
quickly starting. I think he had a week, maybe an
(51:46):
extra week to prepare, but he started pretty quickly there.
I mean, let's face the facts on this part. This
doesn't happen without this being a desperate move, pray, without
it being a correct I mean, like, you don't bring
a guy, even a smart guy, in on Tuesday and
start him on Sunday if you're not totally desperate for change.
And so we have to get that part clear. But
I had Zach that question yesterday. You know, you had
(52:07):
to scale back, and he said, yeah, I have to
be mindful of it, but you know, not a whole lot,
I don't think. And so I think that speaks to
you know, I'm sure you heard some of the cults
from yesterday were literally you know black O. A couple
hours after getting traded, his wife packed up their place
and hopped in a car with the Bengals, providing a
driver and drove down Ice seventy one from Cleveland to Cincinnati.
And on that time he spent time on the phone,
(52:28):
a lot of time on the phone with was Zach
going over some things and so trying I mean talking
about hitting ground running. And he hit the ground running
two hours after he was traded here. And so I
have no a fan. Yesterday after practice and I know
some others talked to some other players it said he
said it was pretty seamless and went pretty smooth. So
I didn't think that was just you know, idle talk.
I think they really did go smooth. So I think
(52:51):
that's the good part. You did pick up a guy
that if you're going to pick up a guy on
a Tuesday and expecting to play on a Sunday, this
is probably one of the few guys that can do that.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
In terms of the line. Do they do things any different?
I mean, you've got a guy back there that is
not fleet of foot, uh, and you just cannot allow
the like free runners that Joe Flacco. It's not going
to end well for anybody. Is there anything they can
do different?
Speaker 6 (53:20):
There is?
Speaker 2 (53:21):
Is it too late in that process? Like how do
they handle knowing that they're going from what they've had
to a guy that is kind of a statue back there.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
Yeah, you're probably gonna end up having a lot of
tight end stain in the block. You're probably gonna have
a lot of the running back staying in the block.
You're probably gonna have sometimes where there's two dudes out
on routes the number one, number one, number five and
expect them to get some separation and expect them to
put the ball where it's supposed to be and on time.
So yeah, I think they have to do some things
(53:53):
do that you can't. I mean with Joe Burrow, they
did a lot of single blocking, right and if the
play broke down, Joe was pretty good obviously at extending
and sometimes extending to his detriment, which is what happened
when he when he got hurt, But he was That
was what he did last year so well, was unscripted
stuff and you could try to single block and if
you want, and it was even better. And if you didn't,
Joe would create. You can't expect that to happen here.
(54:14):
The one way I will say about about Flaco, probably
even though Jake Browning tried to talk it into fruition.
I mean, I think he is a guy that sees
a rush coming and just is gonna throw it away.
I'm gonna live for the next down, or I'll take
a sack and just have to eat it. And you know,
I think you're gonna have some of that. I mean,
I wish I could tell you there's a running game
to hang your hat on. If you don't have that,
maybe something changes there. I don't know. Maybe. I mean
(54:37):
there was a play in the in the last game
was an RPO that if Jake Browning hands off to
Chase brown it's a seventy yard game, I mean, and
he pulled it and tried to throw a pass. And
so do you do some of that stuff where he
makes the better read, he makes the better decision, and
it does improve the running game? You know that. That's
the part to me, it's got to get better. I
don't have an answer for it. They don't have an
answer for it, obviously, But you got to run the
(54:58):
ball better than what you're run it.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
I like that you said tried to throw a pass.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
Yeah, I can't remember. It was complete novel.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
I know we tried, probably wasn't, Probably wasn't. How important.
Is this stretch for Duke Tobin and these young players
on defense that we're still waiting to see, Like, are
they gonna ever take that next step to become the
best version of themselves. Now they're gonna have to if
(55:27):
they're gonna win some of these games need that defense
to be much much better.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Yeah, we talked at Golden yesterday and he said, I know,
you know, people don't believe this, but I think we
are getting better. I think some individual guys are getting better.
I mean, honestly, they had really good moments in the
Detroit game where they're getting stops, and then of course
at twenty eight to seventeen when you kind of actually
got your way back in the game, was still ten
minutes to go, Detroit goes right down the field, and
it's just it's not consistent enough. I mean, they had
(55:54):
the three series in Denver where you know, Denver came
out at half and they forced three straight punts, gave
up five hundred yards. I mean that it's hard to
do straight punts and gave give up five hundred yards,
and they did. I mean even in Minnesota, I mean
all those points and a lot of because of turnovers,
they want to stretch there in the first half where
it was seven to three and they were getting stopped
(56:14):
after stop after stop, and then all of a sudden
the turnover machine hit them. So they've had moments. It's
just not consistent enough. And you know, I do think
that you know, you're you're gonna play some offenses that
are that are still pretty good, but you got the
Jets mixed in there. You know, maybe you go up
to Lambeau and have your best defensive performance. You know,
I think everybody get I mean, there were really good
(56:34):
moments in that Lions game, because that Lion's offense, we
know is hardly the best in the NFL. I mean,
they stopped the running game for the most part, except
when they couldn't when it was twenty eight to seventeen
and you needed it. I mean, a three and out
in the ball back either a few goal were touching
on your dad to a one score game with probably
five minutes still to go and they couldn't get to stop.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
How important is the rest of this year for Duke Anzach, Like,
is there legitimate there should be? There? Should I know
there's should we know there should be? That doesn't look
Mike Brown didn't fire Marvin for a long time, and
Marvin didn't win a playoff game, right, Like, I have
a hard time getting my head around the fact that
(57:14):
they're going to fire a guy that coached a team
in the Super Bowl with years still left on his contract.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
I I and knowing full and knowing fool well that
he played maybe all but a game and a half
ye without job, right, I mean, And that's.
Speaker 2 (57:31):
And Duke is a family friend, Like I, I'll believe
they let go of Duke, move on from Duke, like
when when I see it. But if this goes bad
and they get a top five pick in the draft,
there's got to be some world where that's a possibility.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
I would agree. And and you know, listen, the NFL
is built on paying a couple of stars on your
team and then filling in with guys on rookie contracts.
That's that's just that's what it's supposed to be built on. Well,
guys on rookie contracts aren't playing very well. Is that
coaching fault? Is that the coaching at fault, or is
that the the the personnel department and those scouting these
(58:08):
players and making bad selections. Is that their fault. I mean,
I'm sure they each punt the finger of blame at
the other behind closed tours or maybe just even in private.
But at some point yet dude has to take some
flak for this. There's no doubt he's had good runs
of drafting teams before, but he's not on a heater
right now, and they still do things a lot of
the old fashioned way, and they don't have as many
(58:29):
eyeballs as other teams. I know, he continues to say,
I don't need more RYE balls. Yeah you probably, Yeah
you do. Stop stop thinking you're the smartest guy in
the room, and a lot of moves being made show
that you're maybe not the smartest guy in the room.
Speaker 10 (58:41):
And let me tell you this.
Speaker 3 (58:42):
I don't know if you heard the answer to the
question yesterday, Zach said all the right things about Joe Flacco,
and I think he meant some of them. But if
you if you recall, he was asked, when you know,
when did you fight out about the trade, and he
said when Duke told me, And they said, now, Dukee,
ask my opinion of him. And I will say this,
Sach never just said what he Duke. The oginion of
him was did he ask my opinion of him. It
(59:04):
almost feels like this was Duke making the move and
so at the end of the year, this doesn't work
out with Joe Flack leader you go. I mean, I
he was poisted on me by necessity and I had
to play him because the other guy's stunk at that point.
But yeah, I don't know if he wanted this guy
necessarily or not.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
It's gonna be fascinating. Looking strictly at this game against
Green Bay, the Packers look like a wagon early. What
has gone kind of sideways for them that they don't
look like that team currently?
Speaker 6 (59:36):
I know. Weird.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
I mean they lose the Browns and the defensive struggle
thirteen to ten and then have the forty to forty
tie with the Cowboys. That just seems weird to me.
It's like you're one or the other, Which one are you?
I do think they're really good. I mean, you know,
they were my NFC pick to go to the Super Bowl,
not that that means anything because my AFC pick was
Baltimore and that's not working out so well at the moment.
So I do think they're good. I mean, got a
(59:58):
good quarterback up and at receivers, good defense, and you know,
another worldly player in MIKEE.
Speaker 13 (01:00:04):
Parsons.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
It is a really good team. I don't think they
go up there and win. And that's the other thing too,
And and you know, back to your defensive question, I
meant to say this. You know, even if Joe Burrow
is healthy, I mean, the Bengals could have come out
of the Green Bay game two and four. I mean
they really could have, you know, so as a two correct,
(01:00:25):
I mean, and you know, go back to the opener
in Cleveland. Joe Burrow was the quarterback and they only
had one hundred and twenty one yards, So like they
were sitting on fire there either, because that's what There
are deeper issues than just quarterback. Quarterback is an issue.
And obviously, in my opinion, I listen, I'm a big
Jake Browning fan. I thought, what I'm stunned at just
how poor that stretch of games have gone. But no
doubt they had to do something at the position. And
(01:00:46):
you know, obviously they did something very desperate.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
Let's let's move to the Bearcats for a minute, Skinny.
They take down Kansas, they take down Iowa State. They're
in a an interesting position this week because it's you know,
for teams that are maybe not used to experiencing a
lot of success, this is a dangerous one On Saturday.
(01:01:12):
UCF hasn't played great, but they are a team with talent,
and that's the nightmare, right You're playing a rival that's
talented and hasn't met expectations and you're kind of riding
high off of these two wins. This is the classic
letdown period. I think we learn a lot about Scott
Sanderfield's team on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
Yeah, but you know what, I think the way they
won the last two games means something. I never have
to pull out one, the one at Kansas and in
this last week when it looked like it was slipping away,
slipping away, you know, they were killing out against the
Roe Iolis. They was, and you couldn't run the ball
much in the second and then you hit the one
big play over the top to kind of put it away.
I think that has carryover effect to me, like you
found ways to win. You didn't just go out and dominate.
(01:01:57):
You had to find ways to win. So I think
that's a positive to your point. Yeah, I mean, you know,
the the wins for uc F for two by games,
and I could call it a third because they beat
North Carolina and they're they're obviously terrible against anything that
it's halfway decent. Then you know they lose at Kansas
State and home to Kansas. You know, Kansas State is
not having a great year. I think they are a
pretty good team, but they're just not having a very
(01:02:17):
good year. And Kansas is a is A is a
quality team too. I mean, I don't want to discount that.
You see win has a great win, I mean on
the road and you know their offensive fireworks, So yeah,
I think that has a carryable effect. But to your point,
I mean, you know, letdowns happen. We don't know why
they happen, but they do happen, and situations right, But
I think for this team, man, I think it's more
of the confidences there. And like again, the ras of
(01:02:40):
the game was wonky. Maybe part of that was Nebraska,
right or it look like goshould never be able to
throw the ball and all they're gonna have to do
is he's gonna have to pull it down and run.
And now suddenly you're cranking up the run game and
so now teams go, well, don't have to sell it
stop the run. Fine, we're gonna hitch over the top. Well,
they're gonna hitch over the top. Let's the lighter in
the box and play too high safety. We're gonna run
the ball at I mean, they're a really good spot offensively.
They have some flaws defense dad, in my opinion, but
(01:03:01):
right now they are clicking on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
They the thing about the offense is what you're always
looking for.
Speaker 6 (01:03:07):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
You got a good offensive line that can run and
pass block, you got a good quarterback, and you got
a bunch of viable weapons, and that you're hard to
deal with that way.
Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
In the first game. Yeah, they didn't look that way
in the opener, but they sure do. Now you know
what to do because it sounds I don't I'm probably
wrong in saying this because I did pa for the
for the Northwestern State game and you know it was
a joke, right, I mean, and I'm thinking, did this
get your confidence up? And they just give you false hope?
Well maybe it did give them confidence, yeah, because they
were hitting bombs left and right. What do you go
fifteen for fifteen and you know the time that he
(01:03:39):
played in that game and five touchdowns and you think well,
it was against literally playing nobody was that. He was
a big confidence boost they needed.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
Was that the worst college football team you've ever seen, ever, ever, ever, ever.
Speaker 3 (01:03:50):
Close A guy called the same two guys making tackles
for that team, nobody else wanted to tackle. They have
two dudes. I think they wanted to.
Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
Tackle two dudes that wanted to be there. Everybody else
is like, get us on the bus and get us
back to Louisiana, please, sir.
Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
Please, I'm watching I was watching them in warm ups
and they had a very regimented, like very organized warm
up session and they had a whistle that guy kept
blown during the warm up, and I'm like, okay, you
guys trying to build himselves a program and they're not
very good. They did get it, you know, they finally
they didn't win a game last year. They got to
win earlier this year. I'm like, they're gonna get their
teeth kicked in here. But okay, this looks like this
(01:04:26):
team's going to try to try to do something. It's
still going to be ugly. I mean, Chad, it's seventy
to nothing. Was not playing ten minutes of game clop
because they could it short it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Was seventeen enough, It could have easily been. They could
have easily hit one hundred. Easily, they could hit a hundred, no,
no doubt. What does it say to you the buy
in even though things weren't successful in the first two years,
Scott Sanderfield got dudes to stay. I mean, Jake Golda
is going to be an early draft pick. Brendan Sorosby
(01:04:56):
could with the way this quarterback year is going, could
very much play his way into an early draft pick.
Joe Royer is going to be drafted in a good spot.
Dante like, these aren't guys that are hoping to sneak
into the sixth and seventh round. What does it say
that things didn't go great these first two years, but
the culture was there and the buy in was there
(01:05:18):
because they got all these guys to come back. And
I can tell you this for a one hundred percent fact,
they had a chance to go elsewhere and make a
lot more money than what they got here.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Yeah, I mean, I guess credit to him, and I'll
say this because I'm sure he understood he was under
the gun going in issue. Yeah, and sometimes you want
to change everything and maybe he did. Maybe you're way
closer to it than I have. And maybe he did well,
maybe he just said, I'm going to continue to trust
my process because I believe in it, and whatever that
process is, it's it's suddenly clicking.
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I don't think a whole lot changed. I really don't,
So again, trust your process. Sometimes I think the players
got better. That usually is the main culprit, Right, the
players got better, things get a little easier.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Uh, there's no question about that part of me. No offense.
If I got nick team out of retirement and gave
him Northwestern States players, I do think they would at
least tackle because he demanded.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
I think they'd be a little better. I don't think
they would have looked like the worst college football team
I've ever seen. I don't think that team could have
won the GCL South.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
No, I'll give you the GCL South All Stars. Let's
make it an all star team.
Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
I'll take you, okay, Like, do you really think they
could beat Mohler a quarterback?
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
They could beat Moler? Give me the team of all
stars and the GC so I may take you up
on it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Moler has more high level D one athletes than Northwestern State.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
You ever, don't forget Elder.
Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
I know, maybe Elder could beat him too. I don't know,
I do. Maybe you combine Moler and Elder and I'm
taking that team per Shohler. Uh, there you go real quick, anything, Reds.
Are we really looking based on some of the things
I've seen, said that we're gonna run this back next year?
They're gonna run a.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Back right there. But but but but I still think
they're gonna have enough money to go find a bat somehow, someway,
and don't forget Nick Martinez. A twenty one mill comes
off the books.
Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
Yeah, just a bat? Like the bat? Or do we
get a player with it? Are you gonna go get
a really good bat.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
Because they already they already got a guy that plays
batter's box?
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
Is right right?
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Then?
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
This coming year, they're just gonna get the bat.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
It beats nothing. I can't I can't imagine they don't
add a bat. I just can't imagine. You think that again,
you need some of the guys to take a step forward.
That that's kind of baked into Blake, like, I need
more from Ellie. Even though Ellie does a lot, he
let the team in almost every offensive category. Know the
man time, you know, I need a more consistent to
well the Marte. I need those kind of things. I
(01:07:47):
need Brian hats to get at least more than two
hits a month. But I can't bank on that being
the only thing. Yeau that that part of that with
another guy adds another handful of wins.
Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
Yep. Ellie Elia Cruz center fielder. I have been the
biggest Ellie's a shortstop proponent on the planet, but it's
not getting better. Like the errors, the mistakes.
Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
Yeah, dude, I think he'd be so good out there.
I mean where he ranges sometimes to catch pop up.
Sometimes it's even dangerous because he's about to clyde with
an Outfielders come in two steps from where he originally camping.
That's how far sometimes he goes out. I think he'd
be so so good out there.
Speaker 2 (01:08:29):
The pitching's good enough to win, even though we didn't
really see it in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
But the pitching is going to ask for a lot
and listen, you don't have to go out and get
a lot of bullpen arms. In my opinion, he got
a lot of good arms in the system. You know,
I'm not even sure Chase burn starts. I mean, I'm
not sure his will isn't better in the bullpen. If
that's the case, then that means your rotation is pretty
damn good. And he just added another good arm to
the bullpen that hard. Yeah, Red Louder's back and maybe
Williamson's back in the mix. You know you gotta walk back.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
Yeah, they're not far. They just just go get a back,
Go get a bat and a player that swings it,
a player that hand is, their hands are attached to it.
I'd love for it to have been sure where there's
noe like. People got to let that go. That guy
played himself out of the Reds this year.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Give me Kyle Tucker. I'll take Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Okay, Kyle Tucker, the guy that covered Kentucky. It's not
that different. Kyle Tucker. All right, Skinny, Kyle Tucker, Okay, gotcha, gotcha?
All right, man, I appreciate it. Where can they find you?
Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
At Local twelve Skinny on the ex verst and at
Local twelve dot com slash sports. I'm actually working on
a high school story today.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Oh is it about Lloyd?
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
No, it's about No. They're having a great year. I've
actually picked them as our Game of one of our
games of the week couple of times this year.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
I was there Friday. I watched that. I watched that
barn Burner at Lloyd Friday against Bourbon County.
Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
Yeah, Bourbon County came in that game undefeated. I know
it was.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
It was down to the wire, Yes it was.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
I had a friend of mine that was there too.
It was, no, we're going to on Saint Henry. There
you go. First year football got off to an own
four start, and they've won their first two district games,
already qualified for the playoffs. I think that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
It is impressive, and I've always wondered what it would
look like if Saint Henry had football, and now we
get to find out.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
I'll leave you with this, and I know we've going along.
The coach Tim odom Is a play at Moler. Back
in the early age, he played Ohio State, and Tim
said that he literally is. He could remember his little
brother asked him, if you could ever have a head
coaching dream job, what would it be? He said, thirty
five years ago, I said, if Saint Henry ever starts football,
I want that job. Well, sure enough, they started later.
He's the man.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
I love it Friday was my thirtieth anniversary. Skinny, Oh,
my thirtieth class reunion.
Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
Wow, awesome, I got, I got. I believe I got
number fifty coming up not too long from now. So
there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
Well that's funny. Me, my dad and my uncle are
all ten years. My dad was seventy five, my uncle
was eighty five. I was ninety five. I've all three,
all three class reunions were at the game Friday night.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
That's cool. I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
It was good. It was a good time, all right, man,
I appreciate it. Thank you, cool, thank us.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
Richard Skinner, Local twelve. Let's take a break. All right, everybody,
it's time for talkbacks. Keep it clean, keep it nice,
keep it friendly. Drew, how are we doing so far?
Is everybody up to the assignment? People have been following
following the assignment. Okay, talkbackers do the assignment, and that's
(01:11:33):
much appreciated. All right, let's take a break talkbacks right
after this. Since I he's ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Do you think I was AI or you think somebody
made that. I think somebody made that. It's a lot
of work. If somebody made that, like, it's a pretty
good production quality that it is well done. It's very
well done. Just a reminder. If you're going to leave
a talkback, let's keep it to sports. If you want
to leave a note for Tony, let's do that. We're
(01:12:46):
we're playing nice today. Okay, We're we're coloring within the
lines because we don't want to get Drew in trouble.
So do this for Drew, please please, Let's get to
the talkbacks.
Speaker 14 (01:13:01):
Hey, it's Jim and Milford. I wanted to give a
little bit of my listening background. I would say probably
for fifteen years I listened to Bill Cunningham. But when
the Bengals became really, really good about three four years ago,
I started listening to this show because of the Bengal coverage,
and I fell in love with Tony and his personality
(01:13:23):
and Audie. Yesterday's news actually burned my chest all day
long ahead anxiety. So I'm really gonna miss.
Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
Him same same. I was mad all day yesterday as
mad as a hornet for a while yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:13:37):
Ye hey, guys, super bummed about the news about Tony.
Speaker 10 (01:13:43):
But I have a question for Chode.
Speaker 6 (01:13:47):
If the Bearcats the NA Tournament this year, what's gonna
happen with west Miller.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
I love it when Xavier fans think they're funny, like
all the first time I've been called code. It very original.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:04):
He's still gonna have a hefty buy out. I don't
think you see has a lot of money. I'll say
it's probably in a similar situation that I've talked about
with Scott Ciderfield. I think things would have to be
really bad, and I don't think they're gonna be really bad.
Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
So I I.
Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
Don't see a world where Wes isn't here next year
unless things get major Le's house.
Speaker 15 (01:14:32):
What's up fellas Joe in Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
I'll be quick about this.
Speaker 15 (01:14:36):
I just would tell Tony Aten Man, I love you
all show. I really hope to hear it again. That
was the best part of my work day. I'd sit
here at the time, we just go by listening to
you too, and I'll some way or another we get
the show back, Who Day.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Who Dad?
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
Chad always get to hear you.
Speaker 5 (01:15:07):
Been very pleasantly surprised with how good you sees played
this year.
Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
Phenomenal. I tell you it's sad about Tony.
Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
I think that this show, with the talkbacks, it was
very organic, very different in the sports world.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Unique and good luck to Tony, well said loud talk
about guy.
Speaker 4 (01:15:30):
Yeah, indeed, And that was kind of what I talked
about at the top of the show, was how unique
this it's a community, this community is and I think
that's just a really really cool part.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
Just it's not something that happens a lot in radio,
right and to see it it built the way here
it was organically was awesome.
Speaker 16 (01:15:49):
Hey, Tony, I hope this message finds you. I really
hope you come up with a podcast something along the
lines of like a Dan Patrick where you do three
hours between twelve and three. I used to look forward
to this every day to get my Reds and Bengals
and Cincinnati talkin. I live in Florida, and I looked
forward to it because your delivery, your mannerisms, your personality
(01:16:14):
to talk about different things other than sports was great.
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
And I missed that.
Speaker 13 (01:16:20):
Yep, hey ched Marcus from the grove.
Speaker 17 (01:16:25):
I asked Tony this question on Sunday.
Speaker 15 (01:16:28):
Now I want to ask you.
Speaker 18 (01:16:29):
Obviously it's not basketball related, because I saw your tweet
about the rivalry rankings that came out and that was
just utter just a failure on that list that not
have uc xavior. But in football, who do you think
is UC's biggest rival?
Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
It's right now it's uc I, and I think as
organically as they get into the Big twelve, I could
see it being West Virginia. More as if West Virginia
gets things back on track and Cincinnati gets it rolling
like that is an old rivalry that got shelled. The
(01:17:11):
two schools are close, I could see it very much
being UCF. If both teams continue their upward trajectory, I
could see it being like an Iowa State long term,
I think that one's got a chance to get a
little spicy. Iowa State recruits Cincinnati a lot. I think
(01:17:32):
the two teams want to play a similar style football,
so I could see that, But I think right now
it is UCF. It's been ten years. Every year that
these two have played, they have both been really good
in that time span. They have both had their downturns
in that time span, but there's been a lot of
really good games over the past ten years.
Speaker 19 (01:17:54):
Chad and Drew Bloomer drew from South Bend. The Flacco trade,
I feel that that was just kind of a push.
We got a sixth round, we give up a fifth round. Yeah,
got a quarterback with an arm and so savvy. I
think that's good. We were shooting for a middle of
the road defense. Well with this thing, these things occurring
(01:18:16):
with Burrow, he needed this defense to be great. And
nothing but love for Tony Pike. Good luck to your brother,
appreciate it.
Speaker 20 (01:18:27):
I think one huge rationale for flack o'hill Mary is
Green Bay. He started against three or four weeks ago,
and then in Pittsburgh. He knows them better than anybody else. Sure,
he's played so many games against them. Just manage the
game against the Jets and the Bears get back to
Pittsburgh in New England, and then let's see what happens
after that stretching games.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
I don't disagree there. I think there's like I said,
I think Flacco was surprising when you heard it, but
the more you looked at it, the more it's like Okay,
Like I get it. I can see where some of
the some of the rationale is now terrible offensive line,
quarterback that can't move. That's that, that's one plus one
equals three. But there are other parts of it that
(01:19:10):
makes sense.
Speaker 17 (01:19:12):
First time, long time, sev one five. It's been a pleasure,
not super upset because I understand one door closed, so
anothering can open.
Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
You definitely land on your feet.
Speaker 15 (01:19:26):
How good day was?
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
Look, Tony's gonna be fine to be dead everybody. He's
still with us. He's and he's and he's really freaking
good at this, like annoyingly good at this. At times,
He'll be fine.
Speaker 11 (01:19:40):
Hey, guys, Jeff and your Richmond Jeff, love you guys
for carrying the torch. I know it's very difficult. Love Tony,
love everything he stood, for everything he did. Excited that
he'll be doing the bear Cats broadcast moving forward. Hey,
I had a quick question about the Do you feel
(01:20:02):
like Zach Taylor feels that he's off the hot seat
now that they signed black Ill. He seemed really comfortable yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
I don't know how you can feel comfortable that that
things are fine, like they've got it. They were embarrassed
for two and a half quarters, two games and three
quarters with Brownie embarrassed, like just dreadful football if you
get that. Even with Joe Flacco, Zach's still on the
(01:20:34):
hot seat, Like, I don't think that changes, agreed, Towny
snackhead Jad Drew. This is Garth Brooks. Garth Tony, you're
not only a Hall of Famer on the field behind
the mic, but you're Hall of fame human being as well.
(01:20:56):
I wish you the best, because there any better nickname
than Garth Brooks, like outstanding, Southstanding. Hey guys, it's Brandon
from Indy. Hopefully you guys are doing well.
Speaker 21 (01:21:11):
As far as I will say, as far as Tony's concerned,
I understand things happen.
Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
I just don't agree with it.
Speaker 21 (01:21:16):
It's not fair that you have a job one day
and you wake up the next morning and it's gone.
So I really hope Tony will find something else, and
I'm sure he will. We're definitely gonna miss him. I
wonder who's going to do the Bearcat games because he
did a great job. Kelly Bengals concerned. I just don't
think they will beat the Packers this week. I don't
think they're good enough so we'll see. I don't think
(01:21:37):
they are either.
Speaker 4 (01:21:40):
He is still doing the UC broadcast, so you will
still hear them if you tune in to Dan Horden
Moe on Saturdays.
Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
Still catch do it and repping in Thattty out here
Sonny hot un angel music.
Speaker 10 (01:21:53):
All right, I know what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
It's gangst the bat which had in the house.
Speaker 22 (01:21:56):
You see football coach Sat turned the temperature down by
a little bit. Real talk, b uc F Now you
got me convinced here you see basketball Wes. Really, man,
let's just cut to the chase, no n I, T,
no CB, whatever it is. Get to the tournament, tournament
and make a run. All right, that's important this year
for you Bengals. I think they're gonna beat Green Bay.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Confidence. They got that good good out in Arizona, right,
that good good.
Speaker 23 (01:22:26):
What I'm most interested to see in the Joe Flacco
situation is how well the line blocks for him. Everybody
keeps saying, oh, you can't throw it from your back, man,
this line's terrible. Well, let's just see how Joe puts
everybody in place to make the blocks that they need
to block.
Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
Because this dude's seen every defense from.
Speaker 23 (01:22:43):
Here to Los Angeles, so it doesn't matter. He's gonna
know where to put these guys in place, and all
of a sudden, everybody's gonna say, oh my gosh, they're
blocking so much better for Flacco than anybody else.
Speaker 3 (01:22:54):
Why.
Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
I mean, I get where you're going. I don't think
that it's right, but we'll see. We'll see.
Speaker 24 (01:23:05):
Up guys, Big Kahouni Kentucky, I mean, Skinny says this
is probably the best duo or offensive weaponry that Flacco's had.
Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
I mean, shouldn't it be.
Speaker 24 (01:23:15):
I mean, it's the highest page duo receivers. I mean,
it's supposed to be the next Chris Carter, Randy Mark, Clayton,
Mark Dooper. I mean, these guys are supposed to be.
To cast me out, they better be. I mean, by
far the under achieving today. We're getting all that money.
I mean, you know, but I mean, heck, they better be.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
They can't throw it to themselves. I'm sure they'd like
to at some point over the past three games have
had the opportunity to throw it to themselves. Go watch
there was a guy that used to work here that
does some videos on Twitter, and go watch those and
you'll see, it wasn't their fault that they weren't getting
the ball. It was that Jake Browning was awful. So
(01:23:59):
we'll see. I hope it gets better with Lacco. I
genuinely do.
Speaker 10 (01:24:04):
I think you're doing a great job.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Chad, thank you.
Speaker 25 (01:24:07):
Heart goes out to Tony. Sucked that the Reds couldn't
pull it off. My son and me are really looking
forward to UCF balls are in the air.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Should be a fun one seventy three degrees in sunny Saturday. Drew, Oh,
can't wait. That's that's what you're looking for.
Speaker 26 (01:24:28):
Head feels your old pal Hermer. Oh, justin Herbert, Mommy,
you stay strong now. I remember years ago, because I'm
really old, when Paul Brown and Mike Brown try to
get Bob Trumpet removed five, I mean removed from their
quite some time. What goes around comes room. Something's rotten
(01:24:54):
in Denmark talkbackers.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
I give that Herbert impression about a six point eight
out of ten. It's solid. It's solid.
Speaker 16 (01:25:02):
Yeah, man, I feel like a child that heard his
parents are getting divorced yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
Our heart and I hate that. But you know, Mo
made a good point.
Speaker 16 (01:25:14):
He said, these radio stations, these corporations depend on the
loyalty of the listener, and.
Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
Then they go around and they stab on the things
that make.
Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
That listener loyal in the first place.
Speaker 13 (01:25:28):
It's a paradox.
Speaker 3 (01:25:30):
And I don't know, man, it messed up.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
It's yes, yes, yes, hey.
Speaker 27 (01:25:37):
We are very spoiled to have great personalities and talk
radio here in the Cincinnati area, travel in the country.
There's not many markets like this one year. Love here,
Antonio naughty every day. Tony does a great job on
the broadcast what you see right now. I hope mister
Kelly gets well and Tony's gonna find a great place
(01:25:58):
to land.
Speaker 10 (01:25:58):
I'm sure of it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
Hey, will was he talking about us? Were we included
in that? I would?
Speaker 15 (01:26:05):
I think so?
Speaker 4 (01:26:05):
Okay, I think we do count as great sports personalities
in this in this city.
Speaker 2 (01:26:10):
According to that talkbacker. You'll take his word for it. Yeah,
I'm gonna take him out his word, all right.
Speaker 28 (01:26:14):
Last one, Okay, it's the paintball googu here. And I've
got a personal message for Tony Pike, and it's a
twist off of what I usually say. But brother, I
want you to stand proud, keep loud and nam drewe
I'll see you down the road, see you.
Speaker 2 (01:26:33):
I feel like that's a pretty poetic one to end on.
It's a good one to end on. Look, I thank
you all. Yep, well done everybody. You didn't have to
edit many, You didn't have to leave too many, not
too many on the cutting room floor. Many. Okay, good
you guys completed the assignment. You colored with the lines.
You get an A minus since Drew had to leave
a couple by the way. Yeah, now it's still an A.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
It's an A.
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
That's right, we'll take I didn't have many of those,
so look like when we see when we get him.
When I was young and a like, that was a
much smaller target to hit than now. Yep, like all
the way down to ninety like, you get an A
like it was like ninety ninety four and up. It
had to be in my day and age back when
we had to walk uphill both ways, barefoot in the snow.
(01:27:23):
All right, let's take a break. We'll get a little
football in the natti when we come back. This is
sinty three sixty brought to you by Sinci Shirts. Ready
here on Cincinnati is ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
Ten years on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 7 (01:27:41):
This is Football in the NATI, brought to you by
bug Light on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of
the Cincinnati Bengals, rolling.
Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
Along since the three sixty Uh, Kevin, I don't know
that you said anything bad in your talkback. Maybe I'll
have Drew check on that. Kevin and Nky I wants
to know. I was talkback, wasn't played, said he would,
didn't say anything bad. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:28:19):
I don't remember seeing if he tagged it with Kevin
and Nky. I don't remember seeing one that hell that tag,
so maybe it just didn't go through. We'll check on it, Keny,
we will check on I will check on that.
Speaker 2 (01:28:28):
During the break. We we played everything that we could
that was was okay. So sorry, it wasn't on purpose.
We didn't mean to selight you, Kevin. Let's get to
some football in the NATTY. We'll talk about this a
little bit more an hour two as well, but big
one for the Bearcats. On Saturday, Central Florida comes to town.
(01:28:50):
The Middle Florida Institute of Hospitality. Night managers at Howard
Johnson are very very happy for its existence. They're exactly
the type of team you don't want to see in
this situation, Drew because they have a lot of talent.
They're located in Florida. There's a lot of talent in Florida.
(01:29:13):
There's a lot of speed, there's guys that can play football.
They have not performed well yet in year one under
Scott Frost, but you know they're gonna be hyped up
for a Cincinnati team, for a rival that is looking
to play itself upward in the Big twelve hierarchy. They
(01:29:35):
are coming to Nippert Stadium. It is a noon game.
The weather should be perfect, although if it feels like
today did at noon, they're gonna be cold. Drwe yeah,
they're gonna be cold. It was like fifty eight degrees
as I was rolling into the palatial ESPN fifteen thirty studios.
(01:29:57):
This is a big test for Scott Siderfield and his
team this week and next week because Cincinnati should win
these two games. There's not a lot of I don't
think UCF is a layup. Oklahoma State better be a
lay up. But this is one of those games that
can be tricky because they have enough, as you saw
(01:30:17):
last week when they played Kansas. They've got enough ability
to hang around. And if a team hangs around, you know,
maybe there's a turnover, or maybe the officials throw flags
on seven consecutive plays, maybe they take away an interception
in the end zone that gives the opponent eight points.
(01:30:39):
Things happen, and things happen in close games. If Cincinnati
is not able to take advantage of the deficiencies that
UCF has, if they allow UCF to hang around, and
this thing goes into the fourth quarter, It's just one
of those games that I've been doing this long enough.
Speaker 29 (01:30:57):
Drew.
Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
It makes you worry about because it screams win, right,
it screams momentum, but it can also derail what momentum
you built in those last two games real quick. Yeah,
for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:31:11):
And I do think the one thing that the Bearcats
have going for them this week is that they don't
have a large, big twelve game the following week. Yeah,
like you play Oklahoma State, who's not any good. They
fired their coach, Like if you were playing, like if
you had Texas Tech next week, this is the spot
where you could get caught looking ahead. But I think
(01:31:32):
all their focus is on this game. It's at home,
which is a big advantage. If this game was on
the road, I would feel even more like, boy, this
is a tricky, tricky, tricky spot. The line is ten
and a half. So that's a new spot for UC. Yeah,
in the Big twelve being that big of a favorite. Now,
you know, I don't know the history. Maybe they have
been that big of a favorite in a Big twelve game,
(01:31:54):
None that I can remember, so I so that's a
bit of a new spot. But I if they play
the way that they've been playing. I thought the defense,
you know, despite looking spotty at times, really stepped up
last week and that second half got I think it
was five consecutive stops in the second half there.
Speaker 3 (01:32:10):
Yeah, the.
Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
Cyclones had eleven drives. They scored on four of them,
so Cincinnati got stops on seven of the eleven drives.
Some of that was because Iowa State did not trust
their kicker. They were on their third string kicker, so
they gave him one shot. He missed a pretty easy
field goal, pushed it wide right, and they never went
back to him. So that played in their favor. But look,
(01:32:36):
that's what you gotta do. The game gives you advantages
and disadvantages. You got to take them when they arise.
I thought, the biggest thing for Cincinnati's defense, you know,
Dante Corleon is going to be great. You know Jake
Golda is going to be great. Like those two things
are written in stone, They've needed guys to step up
(01:32:57):
around them. And I thought Jalen Hunt on the defensive
line and Christian Harrison at safety really stepped up and
gave Cincinnati the opportunity to win that game. It doesn't
necessarily have to be those two. It says, it doesn't
have to necessarily be those two, but somebody on that defense,
(01:33:20):
one or two guys have to step up and compliment
gold and Corleone. They got it last week. It got
them the win. They're gonna need it again this week.
We'll get to it a little bit more in our three.
Let's take a break. Wes Miller coming up next, Cincinnati's
ESPN fifteen thirty. This is since he three to sixty,
you've been.
Speaker 7 (01:33:40):
Listening to football in the NATI on ESPN fifteen thirty,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
Hey sports fans in.
Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
East Coast sub since he three to sixty of bound
Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Pennstation East CoA
sub handcrafted hot grilled subs, fresh cut fries, and lemonade.
It's all about good taste. Penn Station East Coast Subs
order online today. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:34:16):
Welcome back our number three here on Sincy three sixty.
Drew and I had Penn Station today for lunch. It
was excellent. But Drew those cookies man, the bomb so good.
I know everybody's in kind of a bad mood today
because of everything that happened yesterday. So when I was
gonna come in for the show, started planning the show,
(01:34:38):
I said, I need a centerpiece. I need something to
bring the people together. I need to rally the troops.
And I figured I would do that by bringing in
the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball program,
Wes Miller. Wes, how's it going. How's the off season?
And we're almost there? Can you can you sense that
the season is right around the court.
Speaker 30 (01:35:02):
We finally had some chill in the air today and
that's usually a sign we're close to basketball season.
Speaker 13 (01:35:07):
But no, it's it's good that it's getting here.
Speaker 30 (01:35:11):
Chad, thanks for having me on You know we go
play in an exhibition game next Friday. I think that
makes it feel a little closer than anything, but we
do still have quite a bit of time before we
take the court and a lot of practice time left.
Speaker 13 (01:35:25):
So yes, it's almost here in some ways, but in
other ways we got quite a bit of work to do.
Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
There's always a point in the preseason and the lead
up to the season where coaches feel like my team's
not ready. Not that I hate my team, but we're
not there yet. Have you gone from excitement to anxiety yet?
Speaker 13 (01:35:45):
I think after fifteen years.
Speaker 30 (01:35:49):
You can put it in perspective a little bit that
there's going to be aspects of practice every day to
give you excitement that where you can see it coming together,
and there's going to be aspects of practice that, you know,
show you how much work you have to do and
allow you to.
Speaker 13 (01:36:06):
See the areas you need to concentrate on a little
more than maybe you thought. And I think that's every.
Speaker 30 (01:36:11):
Day, whether it's a good practice, whether it's a practice
where you didn't quite play as well. I just think
it's about learning from it, waking up the next day
and trying to attack it. And we've just learned how
to stay pretty level at least as a coaching staff
here for a long period of time.
Speaker 2 (01:36:26):
Yeah, this is a it's almost uncharted territory. In this
transfer portal era. You have almost an entirely new roster.
You do get the benefit of now you can work
with these guys in June and July, you get them
when school starts for a period leading up to the
official start of practice. Where do you feel like your
(01:36:48):
team is that and how much does it help that
you do have a bunch of veteran guys, even though
you know they played somewhere else before they got here.
Speaker 13 (01:36:57):
Yeah, loaded question.
Speaker 30 (01:37:00):
Let me see if I can answer parts of it
for you. I think, I think when you have so
many new faces, which is kind of the new norm,
you know, the summer is really valuable to learn the
team and even the fall in the in the early
part of practice, you know, you're trying to not just
learn the players and obviously we've done our job to
(01:37:22):
evaluate them and figure out who we're getting, but kind
of learn how they function within the things that we value,
how they work together, the best combinations, and so you're you're,
of course you're installing things, installing style of play offensively
and defensively, especially the nuts and bolts, but you're also
trying to leave some room for creativity so you can
(01:37:44):
learn where we could be the best. And that's probably
a lot different than it was five six years ago,
where you know, you may have two new players, but
the direction of exactly what you're doing is clear before
you have your first day of summer workouts, right because
that team's been together so long, So it's a very
different process in terms of where we are in that process.
(01:38:05):
I think we're in a good place, like we've we
we got to a place a week or two ago
where we're now having a ton of clarity on the
details that we need to be focused on within our
style of play. You know, we've talked a lot about
how this team needs to play really fast. I think
this will be the fastest team I've ever coached if
we can be fortunate enough to stay healthy.
Speaker 13 (01:38:27):
I mean, Kirkriesa, it's just it's infectious.
Speaker 30 (01:38:31):
The pace he wants to play with in the back court,
and it's made guys like Davion Thomas and Sincere Harris
and Keishan Tillery want to play even faster. It's made
guys that are running wings run harder, and then we
do have a front court that can really run. So
this will be I think the fastest team I've ever
(01:38:53):
coached end to end.
Speaker 13 (01:38:56):
So we've been working on that for a long time.
Speaker 30 (01:38:57):
But the intricacies of that, the things that we focus
within that, you know, that's become a lot more.
Speaker 13 (01:39:03):
Clear here over the last couple of weeks. So we're
getting to some of the details. And I would say
that about each aspect of our team, offensively and defensively.
Speaker 30 (01:39:12):
You know, I've had to tell our staff this, We're
not ready to play a game yet, but we're not
supposed to be.
Speaker 13 (01:39:17):
You know, it's gosh, it's October ninth. I just look down.
We don't play till November. We got to make sure
we're ready to play in November, and we will.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
Right now.
Speaker 30 (01:39:27):
We just got to keep doing the right things every
day to get ready for November. So we have this
exhibition game against Michigan next Friday. We are nowhere near
ready to go play a game like that, but that's okay,
and that'll be a great tool for us to keep
growing throughout this preseason. So yes, I think we're on
track to where I want us to be for November.
(01:39:49):
Are we on track to play our best basketball next
Friday night? Man, we're hell though, you know, we got
a long way to go.
Speaker 13 (01:39:54):
But that's not The goal of the year is to
be ready to play in October.
Speaker 30 (01:39:58):
It's to be ready to play when it counts, and
to be at our best in January, February of March.
Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
The exhibition thing is new. It's been super secret scrimmages
up until now, but now these exhibition games are open.
You get to play. You know, your choice of how
you want to handle this. Your choice has been let's
go play two teams that are expected to be really,
(01:40:25):
really good, including a Michigan team that many think is
going to be in the top five and might have
the best player in the country in Jacks Lindenborg. What
was that philosophy of let's go on the road and
really really challenge ourselves in these two exhibitions.
Speaker 30 (01:40:44):
Yeah, I think it's just that there's a lot of
aspects to it, but it's a great tool for the
development of our team in the preseason. You know, first off,
we play against each other every day, and there's only
so much you can learn about yourself playing against each other.
So when you be a different jersey, it's just a
great opportunity to learn new things about your team, to
(01:41:06):
learn things that maybe you haven't focused on as much
that you can go attack. So the earlier we can
play a game against somebody else, the better it should.
I've if they ever let me make decisions, Chad, we
get to play against a different team in the preseason
every week, and I'd argue that would make the college
basketball product better when November comes around.
Speaker 13 (01:41:27):
But you know, we got a long way to go
for they let me do that.
Speaker 30 (01:41:32):
I will I will say that, you know, with with
the games we're playing at Michigan and Arkansas. I looked
at the Big Twelve experience the last two years. You know,
it's the best league in America, and there's there's gonna
be difficult nights, Like there's just no way around that.
We we got to get more prepared for playing in
(01:41:53):
the hardest environments, for having to overcome some adversity. We
got to prepare our team and our program for that.
That doesn't mean I schedule them so we can get
our bus kicked, but if we do, it's a great
opportunity for us to learn and grow from that like
and to get ready for what the You're going to
have a night like that in the Big twelve that's
(01:42:14):
in everybody does the whole league right, And if we play.
Speaker 13 (01:42:18):
Great, it'll give us some confidence.
Speaker 30 (01:42:20):
But either way, it should be a good experience for
us and an opportunity and a tool that we can
use to keep building our team. So yes, it was
very strategic to go play like I think it's homecoming
weekend at both Michigan and Arkansas. You know, both teams
have a lot of type going into the year. I
think Dusty's talked about, you know, their goals national championship
from day one, and he said that publicly, So like, listen,
(01:42:42):
we're gon we're going to go play in very difficult
environments in October, and whatever happens, I think it's going
to be really positive for us in January. Like I've
said this, you know to our team already, Jed, you know,
if we play terrible and we get our bus kicked,
all you guys will.
Speaker 13 (01:42:59):
Think we're the worst thing that ever happened to basketball,
And that'll be great.
Speaker 30 (01:43:03):
That'll be great because we'll get to learn how to
manage that in today's world with the phones.
Speaker 13 (01:43:09):
You know, the kids got to learn how to manage that.
Speaker 30 (01:43:11):
If we played great and we win, all you guys
will lack like we're going to go undefeated, and that'll
be great because we're gonna have to learn how to
manage that type of thing. Because we're going to have
some great success. We got to stay steady, and we're
gonna have some homes that we don't and we got
to stay steady. And I think these games give us
an opportunity to start working at that stuff early.
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
I don't know if it's homecoming in ann Arbor, but
I do know they play Washington at noon the next day.
I was looking at hotels because I'm going to go
up and cover the game. I was looking at hotels
and I think there was a red roof end for
three hundred and eighty seven dollars a night. So I
think I'm not staying in ann Arbor.
Speaker 13 (01:43:48):
You know, Ched, I always thought you were a guy
that would do whatever it takes. So I'm disappointed to
hear that.
Speaker 2 (01:43:52):
No, I'm going to stay in Toledo. I'm going I'm
just not staying in ann Arbor because I can't see
myself paying three hundred and eighty seven dollars for a
night at.
Speaker 13 (01:44:00):
The Red Roof in So you're just telling me you're intelligent.
Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
Yeah, I'm trying. I'm trying. I don't know if you
believe me or not. You've known me for long enough.
Speaker 13 (01:44:08):
Now, well I believe that for sure. That's just one
of your many endearing qualities.
Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
But let's talk about the interior the post. Guys that
you mentioned earlier Mustapha Chim, Bobbon Miller, Jalen Haynes. Although
big slime doesn't work anymore, coach, is he medium slime now?
Speaker 30 (01:44:28):
Like he is?
Speaker 2 (01:44:29):
He is trimmed out, he is looking good.
Speaker 13 (01:44:33):
I'll tell you, guys what I told our team a
while back.
Speaker 30 (01:44:38):
The only way he's going to get me to call
him slim is if he gets twenty rebounds in a game.
Speaker 13 (01:44:43):
I don't use nicknames unless you earn him, and so
he's Jalen Haynes to me. But no, he he.
Speaker 30 (01:44:51):
I thought he really came back from our little August
two week break, and from the time he got back,
he's been very very focused about getting physically ready to play,
which which is important because he's an extremely important player
for our team. Uh, he's a little undersized for a
front court player, even though he does have tremendous length,
(01:45:13):
and so him being able to maximize his physical abilities
night and night out in our league is important. And
I've been pleased since August with the effort he's put
into getting in great shape. He's in a lot better
shape than you he was when he got here back
in jail.
Speaker 2 (01:45:27):
Musa m incredibly talented, length, athleticism, size. What has surprised
you about him? Maybe since he got here anything, You.
Speaker 30 (01:45:39):
Know, sometimes you have to with MoU You have to
remember that he was supposed to be a high school
senior last year. Yeah, and you know, we played against
him and I had such great respect for competing against him,
and and then you know, he gets here and you're
you're going, hey, man, what it's It's surprised just me that, like,
(01:46:01):
you don't know everything that Kerkkrisa and Jalen Celestine know.
And you know, these guys are, you know, thirty five
years old, right, like seniors And I'm being kind of funny,
but they're.
Speaker 13 (01:46:11):
Fifty year guys.
Speaker 30 (01:46:13):
And you talked about that earlier at the beginning of
the interview. Here, we do have some older guys Jalen Haynes.
You know, MoU is not one of those guys, even
though he has a year of experience. So sometimes you know,
you've had to realize, man, he's still really new to
the game, you know, coming over from Senegal, and you
know he should have been in high school last year.
(01:46:33):
So even though he has some great experience in our league, like,
there's just things that he hasn't quite figured out or
doesn't know yet. But what's remarkable is how quickly he's learned,
Like it's remarkable. I mean, how much better he is
today than a month ago has been really exciting for
all of us as a coaching staff.
Speaker 13 (01:46:52):
And you know, I think the one thing last year
he was playing in the dunker a lot.
Speaker 30 (01:46:57):
They had such tremendous offensive firepower on the perimeter at
UCF last year. You know Hall and the point guard
they had. Those guys were great players, Hault and out
at Auburn Keyshawn Hall. But he was there and then
he kind of float around and shoots some threes, which
he can really do. But we've tried to make him
run to seal and hit in the post box, to
(01:47:20):
be crazy physical. It's not been comfortable for him throughout
the summer, but he's starting to figure it out, and
I'm telling you he catches it inside five or sixty.
He's pretty tank good, you know, and he's getting better
at carving out position to do that. He's got great touch,
great hands, great feel, and then he still has that
ability to step out and shoot threes. I just hadn't
(01:47:41):
let him do it yet, but we will. But we're
trying to establish the interior game with him first, and
I'm really pleased with his development there.
Speaker 13 (01:47:49):
Certainly, you guys.
Speaker 30 (01:47:51):
Know this from Chad coming to practice, the way he
moves defensively at seven two is.
Speaker 13 (01:47:58):
And he can really run the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
Yeah, bobon Miller, you had a chance to go over
and watch him with the national team in Spain. We
were we able to learn about him maybe that you
didn't know by by going over and watching him in
a different setting.
Speaker 13 (01:48:11):
It was.
Speaker 30 (01:48:12):
It was really healthy, like something that I'll remember as
I moved forward as a coach, that seeing guys in
different settings really helps you understand them.
Speaker 13 (01:48:22):
You know.
Speaker 30 (01:48:23):
I thought our summer practices were very competitive, and you know,
he had good moments, Don't get me wrong, but he
was great for the Spanish national team, and when we
talked after those games, the one thing he said was
it was easier.
Speaker 13 (01:48:39):
And he was playing against you know, a couple.
Speaker 30 (01:48:42):
Of NBA players in those games, you know, you know,
pros and older guys, and he said he thought it
was easier than our practices and that gave him a
lot of confidence. So you know that that made me,
you know, realize something that sometimes we need to make
sure they're in some environments where they can see the
bene fit of practice and maybe in practice we can
(01:49:03):
create those environments a little better. It didn't all have
to be so difficult every single day, even though you know,
I like it to be difficult.
Speaker 13 (01:49:09):
I think it's good for our development.
Speaker 30 (01:49:11):
But no, he was really good off the bounce, he
was really good around the rim, He rebounded well, and
he's starting to now do those things in our practices here.
Speaker 13 (01:49:20):
So that's been good and that was a positive experience.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
As you mentioned, and Jordie Rodriguez, you got to see
why you were over there as well. I've heard good things.
I've seen good things from Jordi. Yes, he can shoot,
but it feels like he's a little bit more than now.
His effort is good. People tend to label those euro
guys as soft. I haven't gotten that vibe from Jordi.
Speaker 13 (01:49:41):
No, he's not soft at all, and we knew that
recruiting him.
Speaker 30 (01:49:44):
I got to see him live in Spain again, as
you mentioned when I went to watch Baba. Physically, Mike
Rayfield will be the greatest thing that ever happened to
him our strength coach, because he does need to get
stronger physically, but he has a level of toughness. I
remember watching him defend when he was playing with the
national team and I looked to my girlfriend and I said,
(01:50:07):
I needed to see that. And he was really chasing
a great shooter around action for the Czech Republic and
he blew up a couple of screens and gave great effort,
and I went, man, he's going to be fine defending
for us. And he has I mean, he's really bright,
he has a great feel for the game.
Speaker 13 (01:50:25):
He can tell he's.
Speaker 30 (01:50:25):
Played a high level of professional basketball already because he's
wise beyond his years in some ways, and he does
need to get a little physically stronger and he knows
that as well.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
And then finally, save the best for last DAYDA Thomas,
a guy that maybe you didn't expect was gonna get
to spend a third year at Cincinnati, but he's here.
I've been really impressed with the way he's carrying himself
this year, the way his teammates are responding to him.
This looks like a much more confident, calm version of
(01:50:57):
Daydae Thomas that we've seen.
Speaker 30 (01:51:00):
Yeah, you know, you think you might have asked the
question in a press conference weeks ago about having all
these new faces and how difficult it has.
Speaker 13 (01:51:08):
That hold on a second.
Speaker 30 (01:51:09):
Now we do have dayda Thomas, and he might be
worth more than just one returning player because he has
had that kind of presence within our program this summer
in this fall.
Speaker 13 (01:51:20):
I think a couple of things. One, he's just matured
a lot.
Speaker 30 (01:51:23):
He's he's been in our program, he's been in Cincinnati,
so he has a certain level of awareness about what.
Speaker 13 (01:51:30):
This means, what we represent. And then you know he's
healthy too, Chad, Like you know, he was coming off.
Speaker 30 (01:51:37):
The foot injury, had the big set He had the
big setback in October last.
Speaker 13 (01:51:41):
Year and didn't even play early in the year.
Speaker 30 (01:51:44):
It took him a long time to get back to
the Dayda Thomas that we all have known and loved
on the court, and I think he looks like that
again physically, just looks confident, healthy and again way more mature,
and he's had a presence within the team that's been
really positive thus far.
Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
Coach, much appreciated you taking out some time today and
calming the masses. Everybody's a little angry about Tony. I
know you you like Tony a lot, but I appreciate
you coming on and uh and giving us some time today.
Speaker 30 (01:52:17):
Well to Tony is a Bearcat and an all time
great Bearcat and somebody I've really enjoyed getting to know,
seeing him at our games and football games and you know,
being a part of the show. So I appreciated your introduction,
but I cannot fill that void. I feel the same
way everybody else does, and just wish him nothing but
(01:52:38):
the best. But I'm glad I got to come on today,
and now I'm gonna get away from you guys and
get back to the stuff that matters, which is getting
our team ready to play.
Speaker 2 (01:52:45):
All right, We'll see you eight days in ann Arbor.
Appreciated Coach, Thank you. Here you go, Cincinnati Bearcat's head
coach Wes Miller. Great stuff, great stuff, A lot of
insight there on a lot of guys. Let's take a break.
I'll talk about I've been to a couple of practices.
I've seen a little bit Drew. I've seen some things.
Not as much as that guy, but I've seen some things.
(01:53:07):
I'll get some thoughts on the Bearcats as well when
we come back. This is since the thirty sixty right
here on Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:53:15):
Now your chance to win one thousand dollars since he
three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
Oh are you a TikTok guy? No, there's two new
trends on TikTok that have had me cracking up. One
(01:53:48):
is mister Rogers and like famous rappers. It's an AI thing,
and it's mister Rogers sitting with like like Biggie and
getting them with like a like a D's Nuts joke.
So I've seen one. I've seen Biggie, I've seen Tupac,
(01:54:11):
I've seen Easy And the punchline of all of them
is like mister Rogers hitting these famous rappers with like
a D's nuts joke.
Speaker 4 (01:54:20):
Well, if they're on TikTok, now that probably means I'll
see him on Instagram in about a month probably.
Speaker 2 (01:54:24):
And then there's another one where they're taking like hip
hop songs and AI ing them into like nineteen fifties
so music. This I have heard about it. Some of
those are awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:54:37):
I think it was the one that I saw was
many men, Yeah, fifty I think that was the one
that I saw.
Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
It's they're so good. Yeah, I think that started. I
think that trend started. They were taking like heavy rock
songs and doing them in yacht rock, yep, and I
think that's what started this AI trend. But some of
them were really good, really good. They cracked me up,
(01:55:03):
mister Rogers and and and easy e was that was
a sight to see, Like mister Rod they were sitting
on a couch and mister Rogers had his arm around him, uh,
cracking jokes and in the comments section outstanding. Yeah, I
can imagine. How about that interview with Wes Miller, good stuff.
There a lot of a lot to learn.
Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
Like West brought the heat, he did, he came, he came,
he knew the assignment today.
Speaker 2 (01:55:26):
He knew we needed him to step up. We did
not need coach speak today. We needed some information and
we got a lot of information from Wes Miller.
Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
A lot and I think a lot to be excited
about for the Bearcats this year, Drew.
Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
They're gonna be really fascinating because they they don't have
that Sean Kilpatrick, Jared Cumberland like like alpha scorer, but
they've got a lot of really interesting pieces, Like I
think their front court has a chance to be outstanding
(01:55:59):
between Mustapha Chom, medium Slid, Jalen Haynes and Boba Miller,
who's six' eleven power, forward can handle the, ball can shoot, it.
Rebounds he's been a little. Inconsistent he played two years
At Florida, state then he played last year At Florida
atlantic and had a little bit of a breakout last.
(01:56:22):
Year but he's always been as seen as a guy
that's LIKE nba, tools very, toolsy an industry term, There
drew very, toolsy but he hasn't put it. TOGETHER i
think he's the most important guy on this team simply
because his, ceiling if he gets close to, it Raises
(01:56:44):
cincinnati's ceiling higher than anybody ELSE i think on the.
Roster AND i think you've got three pieces that compliment
and fit together really, well And i'm fascinated to see
how they. Are are you used and what that looks?
Speaker 4 (01:57:01):
Like, well we're going to find out a lot about
them in the The Twyman Stokes classic On november eleventh
between THE Uc bearcats and The Dayton flyers At Fifth Third. Arena, yeah,
blessed blessed that that game is going to be played
At Fifth Third arena this. Year i'm very much looking
forward to. That that's a home and, home, right it
is a home and. Home so they will be coming
(01:57:22):
to you the arena the following.
Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
YEAR i might have to make that. True we might
make that trip up. Together are you can? You can
you get? Credentialed i'm SURE i. COULD i have been.
Before maybe you get credentialed and we just, request Like
drew AND i sit. Together there we, go and how's
The Wi fi at you? Arena top top. Shelf maybe
we could do like a like a like a live
(01:57:46):
little Live Bearcat, journal live watch with me and you
watching the game and everybody else watching us watch the.
Game there we. Go i'm down for. It but H
Jordi rodriguez is fascinating to. Me because those the year
guys come over, right especially like a you, know a
six six, shooter you instantly think, soft, Right, LIKE i
(01:58:08):
don't know about this. Guy he's not strong, yet but
he sticks his nose in. There the last PRACTICE i,
saw there was a possession where his team had four offensive.
Rebounds he was the guy that came down with the
ball on three of. Them, now the ball was being
tipped around and battled for, whatever but he was the
(01:58:29):
guy sticking his nose in there and digging the ball
out three out of the four. Times and to, me
Like wes talked, about that's a guy that's not afraid
to do some dirty. Work mix it, up, yep that's
a guy that's not afraid to stick his nose in.
There AND i worry about that with the the some
of The european guys because that's just not normally the
(01:58:50):
style of basketball they. Play it's a little bit more,
free it's a little bit more spread, out it's a
little bit more wide. Open but That. Spanish one of
the reasons they've been so good is they are a little.
Gritty they do get a little. Dirty SO i like,
him but a lot of. It, man what does kerkkriesa
(01:59:12):
look like after a slow start At kentucky last year
and then he gets, hurt and then how good Is Daydae?
Thomas because If Dayde thomas is a fourteen point a
game guy that's, efficient that shoots, it he shot it
at forty percent last year from, Three if he's that
(01:59:33):
guy again where he shoots it consistently and he ups
his scoring and, NOTCH i would Love i'm not gonna
hold my breath, through BUT i would love to see
him get to the free throw line a little bit.
More maybe is an older, guy he gets a little
bit more benefit of the doubt because he's taking a
lot of bumps and not gotten. Calls maybe is he
gets a little you, know more respect in the. League
(01:59:55):
he gets some of those. Calls if he just gets
to the free throw line two more times a game
and makes a couple of free, throws all of a,
sudden that eleven twelve points a game is fourteen to
fifteen points a.
Speaker 3 (02:00:08):
Game.
Speaker 2 (02:00:09):
Yep AND i think that having that BECAUSE i don't
think they're gonna have a seventeen eighteen point. Score i'm
not anticipating. That but if you have a couple guys
at fourteen. Fifteen If Dayde thomas And Mustafa chalmer each
above fourteen points a, game it's got a chance to
(02:00:30):
be a, really really Good bearcat.
Speaker 3 (02:00:31):
Team.
Speaker 2 (02:00:33):
Agreed i'm very Very they're one of my most intriguing
teams to watch this year in college. Basketball now here's
the other, problem, Though, Drew there's another big problem. Here
have you looked at The big twelve?
Speaker 4 (02:00:45):
YET i haven't haven't done my deep dive on The
big twelve, yet BUT i THINK i know What i'm
gonna find WHEN i get.
Speaker 2 (02:00:52):
There it's gonna be. Good you can look at the top, like,
okay like you have a feeling in your mind, right
a feeling in your mind of how Good cincinnati can,
be and then you, go, okay where does where does
(02:01:15):
that stack up in the? Standings and the problem, IS
i don't think they're gonna be. Better they're not gonna
be better In, Houston Texas tech's gonna be really, Good
arizona's gonna be really, Good Iowa state's gonna be really.
Good B yu is going to be really, Good kansas
is going to be really. Good there's six teams THAT
(02:01:38):
i have a hard time being confident at Placing cincinnati
ahead of MAYBE byu because they're so. Young BUT i
mean they went out and they Got Rob wright from
From baylor and outstanding freshman point. Guard they they get
a first Team All conference guy back at the top
(02:01:59):
of their roster In Richie. Sanders so, YEAH i Think
cincinnati's going to be. Good good might mean seventh and
seventh you're probably, in but you're at least like like
around the bubble at that. Point. Yep that's not that's
(02:02:20):
not an easy lane to operate. In it sure.
Speaker 4 (02:02:23):
Isn't and they're gonna have to make some hay and
their non con opportunities and where and where they get.
Speaker 2 (02:02:28):
THEM i, Mean you've you've Got dating at, Home you've
Got xavier on the, road and then you Have, Georgia,
clemson And louisville. Neutral louisville's At Heritage bank or whatever
the hell what's it. Called, Okay Heritage, bank so that
one's at least close to, home But georgia's In, Atlanta
(02:02:53):
clemson's In, Greenville South. Carolina, yep so the facto roade
games for those, Yes So LUCKILY i don't, think, Well
clemson basketball might be pretty popular by then because the
football season's a. Rap, yeah but, Yeah like you're gonna
have to be really good just to get in the top,
six just to move ahead of one of those. Teams,
(02:03:14):
like if you want to be top, six you're gonna
be really good if you finish ahead of one of
those six teams that are at the top of the. League,
yep it's gonna be. Fun all, right let's take a.
Break maybe we'll keep The bearcat stuff. Rolling the phone
lines are. Open you want to talk Some, Bearcats maybe
we'll talk a little bit More bearcat football as well
as the third hour rolls on in memory of a
(02:03:37):
friend of mine that used to play quarterback for The.
Bearcats sinsy thirty Sixty our three brought to You High Penn,
Station CINCINNATI'S espn thirteen thirty.
Speaker 7 (02:03:49):
Ten station is turning up the.
Speaker 2 (02:03:51):
HEAT i, mean you're just bringing the heat with the beats. Today,
true that means a lot coming from. You it's a
little different than WHAT i normally. Do BUT i like the,
(02:04:12):
beats LIKE i like the THE i like the vibe
you're picking. Up it's got, like, uh like a nineties
meets like fifties kind of. DEAL i like.
Speaker 15 (02:04:25):
IT i like.
Speaker 2 (02:04:26):
It happy happy to. Supply let's go out to the.
Phones my, Man mike In. La we have not talked
in a long. Time how is, it my.
Speaker 3 (02:04:34):
Brother of portly happened because you hogged the damn. Show
OH i had to do?
Speaker 2 (02:04:41):
That, yeah so. Good, Look, mike there is NOBODY i
just had.
Speaker 3 (02:04:48):
A big hit of. Morphine, Brother i'll say WHATEVER i
wanted to about.
Speaker 2 (02:04:51):
That there's nobody that likes listening to me talk more than.
Speaker 11 (02:04:55):
Me.
Speaker 2 (02:04:55):
Mike you know.
Speaker 3 (02:04:56):
THAT i. KNOW i like to listen to you. TOO
i know about you see basketball, Now SO i ain't
gonna talk about, it BUT i appreciate the.
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
Breakdown that was, awesome wasn't?
Speaker 6 (02:05:05):
He?
Speaker 3 (02:05:07):
Uh you compared to the, Past, lucid he was loose this.
Speaker 2 (02:05:11):
Time it's a lot of coach. Speak NORMALLY i GOT
i got it out of. Him we got him and
talk some.
Speaker 3 (02:05:17):
Ball yeah you did. Good, well if he don't talk to,
you he's a dumb, ass because you've got the main
publication down, There so you better kiss your little you, Know.
Speaker 2 (02:05:29):
Drew get the dump button, ready, Morphine, mike, Morphine mike
in L.
Speaker 3 (02:05:36):
A i Gave drew the.
Speaker 2 (02:05:38):
Prep that's, true that's. True, Uh i'm good, Man i'm,
good just. Busy it's, uh it's nice to be winning
again in. Football my life is a lot. Easier people
aren't as mad at me all the. Time Uh so
keep the winning going And i'll be.
Speaker 3 (02:05:56):
Good, yeah me. Too And i'll just mentioned this for a.
Second THEN i want to TALK mlb the playoffs with,
you even though you probably don't want, to BUT i
want to. Curse, okay. Thanks Uh SO i get a
text at ten thirty the other. Night, YEAH i text that,
way AND i Thought i'll be a Tunable billy, Goes
(02:06:18):
i'll you know.
Speaker 2 (02:06:20):
Time uh, yeah, Wow tony was up.
Speaker 3 (02:06:27):
Late well, yeah he's probably probably how we paid this
bill sports, fans you know that kind of. Thing so, yeah,
uh you, KNOW i feel, Man it just it pissed me.
Off i'm still pissed. Off SO i heart you're not
on my top of my. List, okay, OKAY i heart hear.
(02:06:47):
That run your numbers and do your methodical. Crap but,
anyway so you've been watching THE mlb playoffs at? ALL
i have.
Speaker 2 (02:06:57):
Not So kelsey is getting towards the end of. Heart, listen,
Listen kelsey is getting towards the end of her volleyball,
season And MIKE i have been this year volunteered to
be THE pa voice of The Simon Kenton Lady pioneers
varsity volleyball. Team so a lot of Times i'm not
Even i'm not even getting home until ten o'clock at,
(02:07:20):
night and THEN i have to do all The bearcat journal.
Work so, Unfortunately i've been following, along BUT i have
not really had time to sit down and watch any
damn games since The reds got. Eliminated i've been locked In.
Mike talk To, Drew mike, talk just talk To. Drew
talk To. Drew it's, fine, No i'm talk.
Speaker 3 (02:07:39):
Then at one. Day drew's very. Interactive KAREN i got
to drag it out of him every. Time So drew's
right in, there very, proactive very. PRODUCTIVE i like, It.
DREW i like. It So, drew tell me what you're
think of THE mlb playoffs right?
Speaker 4 (02:07:54):
Now, WELL i think the best series going right now
is The tigers and The. Mariners very fascinated to see
how that one ends. Up thought The dodgers kind of
punted on the game last, night kind of Let ershall
get beat, up get beat around in that eighth. Inning
The yankees. Lost that means today is a good. Day
The yankees are. Eliminated that's always, uh that's always my. Favorite,
(02:08:16):
uh that's always one of my favorite days of the
year when The New York yankees are. Eliminated And i'm
fascinated by This cubs And brewer. Series if The cubs win,
today that That game five In milwaukee all of a
sudden becomes some pretty uh you, know, tight tight stressful
moments for The brewer fans In. Milwaukee so, Uh but
(02:08:38):
IF i had, to IF i had to put put it,
OUT i think The dodgers get it done in. FOUR
i think The dodgers are gonna pull it. OUT i
think THE i think That cubs series is gonna go,
five BUT i think The brewers are gonna get.
Speaker 2 (02:08:49):
There And i'm gonna go with The. MARINERS i think
The mariners Get game.
Speaker 4 (02:08:53):
Five AND i think we have an alcs Of Blue
jays And, mariners which you, know not a lot of
like TV's love.
Speaker 2 (02:09:00):
That, YEAH tv is gonna love.
Speaker 4 (02:09:01):
That but as a baseball, knowwer as a ballnower of,
baseball that's a good.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
Stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:09:07):
Man, Mariners, mariners Blue jays will be a very fun.
Series what do you, Think, MIKE.
Speaker 3 (02:09:12):
I think it sounds fantastic because first of, all you
get one's been in the action for a. While, secondly,
Uh mariners may as well be In. Canada and uh
so you got Two canadian, teams which is kind of
fun and and and that's what's so fun about The Blue.
Jays they have no big name guys on their team
and The mariners don't. Really, yeah so it makes it
(02:09:36):
a lot of. Fun Uh, ted you're blown, it, man
you better start getting Limedu, Ma.
Speaker 2 (02:09:43):
I'm getting paid to sit here and listen to YouTube guys.
Talk who's doing it? Wrong it's not.
Speaker 3 (02:09:47):
ME i haven't even brought up food. Yet we'll save
that for another. Day you got but uh uh, yeah
of Course i'm written for My. Dodgers uh but as
far as The reds, go AND i know we don't
want to talk about. That And Drew kenscheinman, too LIKE
i have a fay so so whether, nonsense it's your, show,
(02:10:09):
ches but what do you what's your outlook for The?
Reds for both of you, Guys and THEN i won't
bring it up again till next.
Speaker 4 (02:10:17):
Spring, Well i'll say This Nick crawl's postseason after the
season comments didn't exactly fill me with. Optimism not knowing
the free agent budget, YET i think it's going to
be a lot of we're relying on these guys to
take the next. Step you're losing On you're losing some
(02:10:37):
guys in the. Bullpen you're gonna need some guys to
step up. There you, need you, need you still need
that power. BAT i just can't get over the fact
that they play in Great american ballpark AND i think
they FINISHED i think like twenty third in baseball and
home runs. Hit they didn't have a didn't have a
twenty five home run. Guy so it'll be interesting to
(02:10:58):
see what. HAPPENS i hope that they kind of go
out and are aggressive and in making moves and bringing guys.
Speaker 2 (02:11:05):
In BUT i believe that WHEN i see. It all, right,
Guys mo's in here for his, segment and we we
still have a commercial, break so, uh we're going To
i'm glad you And drew got to talk. Baseball i'm
Glad Duke tobin the redsch And fire also Fired Duke. Tobin,
okay seem, like let's take a. Break Mo lagger. Next
(02:11:31):

Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
Wise since the three sixty continues ON espn fifteen Thirty
Cincinnati Sports, Station it's time For sincy three sixty quick
hits ON espn fifteen.
Speaker 2 (02:11:46):
Thirty all, right Where's mo? THERE i am Welcome. Moe
how are you? Doing what's?
Speaker 6 (02:11:52):
Up?
Speaker 29 (02:11:52):
Nothing i'm is it? GOING i THINK i handled? It,
OKAY i think you handled it like a. Pro and,
UH i admire you for all the things you said
and everything you. Said we were just talking about it off,
air what you said About. Tony you can go to
A uc basketball.
Speaker 3 (02:12:09):
Game.
Speaker 29 (02:12:09):
Okay you can go to A uc basketball and you'll
See Tony pike in a jersey rooting his face. Off
And hall of fame athletes at an individual school don't do. That, No,
like you could talk To tony ABOUT uc sports and
not know that he played there much less.
Speaker 2 (02:12:27):
Was a hall of Fam, yeah he's the BIGGEST uc.
Speaker 18 (02:12:30):
Fan.
Speaker 2 (02:12:30):
Yeah and he's like that with The. Bengals he's like
that with The, reds no. Question, like, genuinely he's just
the guy From redding who happens to also be A
hall Of fame U se quarterback and also happens to
be annoyingly good at all of, This, right.
Speaker 29 (02:12:46):
You you should see THE texi AND i send each
other during basketball games and will continue to send each
other during. Basketball, nah he Loves he did this job
because he Loves cincinnati. Sports he didn't do this because
He's Tony, pike FORMER uc. QUARTERBACK i did this job
because he LOVES uc sports and The reds and The.
Bengals and even like when he started, HERE i said to, him,
(02:13:08):
like you're A bengals, fan like you.
Speaker 2 (02:13:10):
Did play in THE. Nfl he's, like, yeah, yeah, YEAH
i grew up because HOW i grew.
Speaker 29 (02:13:15):
UP i wasn't A bengals fan in twenty ten WHEN
i drew a paycheck from The Carolina.
Speaker 2 (02:13:19):
Panthers it's that's what makes it. Suck LIKE i, said sports,
coverage sports in this city got worse, YESTERDAY i said
on the show.
Speaker 29 (02:13:29):
Yesterday and this is no reflection Of, austin WHO i
think is going to do some. Stuff radio station is
not as.
Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
Good but it's all of.
Speaker 6 (02:13:37):
It.
Speaker 2 (02:13:37):
Right there's there's not a big pond here In. Cincinnati
we have a lot of really good, people sure that
cover sports, here but there's not a lot of. Us
And tony was quickly getting to the top of That.
Speaker 29 (02:13:53):
Mountain there's a lot of really good and yourself included niche. Content. Right,
yeah what we do is it's. Everything you have to
know a little about a. LOT i do a little
bit of, this right, so But tony embraced that very
quickly and got good at it very. Quickly and there's
ONLY i say this as a, LISTENER i would say
(02:14:13):
this is somebody who works. HERE i love the medium
because the medium isn't. Niche it's, broad, right it's, Broad
and so you have to be the best hosts are
the ones that can spend here's a great segment on The,
reds and Then i'll pivot to The, bengals and Then
i'll pivot back to The reds and then TO U
see football and Then xavier. Basketball and there's only somebody
(02:14:34):
who can do that really. Well i'm NOT i BARELY
i barely get my three hours on the. Air tony
can do, it and by the, way did it with
like no formal.
Speaker 2 (02:14:41):
Training you.
Speaker 29 (02:14:42):
Know there's THERE'S i came up in this business and
produce shows and and had like we, had we had
to work hard did to get. Here but Like tony did,
it and well he got the job because he played at.
Uce there's something to. That, okay like that's it's. Park that's, cool,
great but it's one thing to get the it's something
else to like wrap yourself in, it make the relationships
(02:15:06):
and do the work and embrace doing the. Work And tony.
Did And i've said that well before this. WEEK i
admire that about him Because i've seen others just feel, like,
oh walk, in turn on the.
Speaker 2 (02:15:16):
Mic it's. Easy, yeah it's, easy and it's. Not and
that that was really maybe the most annoying PART mo
was when he first, started it was like it's in. There,
yeah it's gonna take him a little, while BUT i
and then like sixty days, later it was, like holy,
crap he's good at.
Speaker 29 (02:15:31):
THIS i the first time he ever did The monday
show with, me we were still in studio and it
was mid.
Speaker 2 (02:15:36):
Season BECAUSE i talked about this.
Speaker 29 (02:15:38):
Yesterday he took over For Rocky bim And rocky was
doing they moved him to a show at night on
seven HUNDRED, Wlw so they asked, me who do you?
Think And i'm, like, WELL i already Know Tony i'll
have good chemistry with, him BUT i didn't know how
good it would. Be AND i remember midway Through he's
not gonna mind me saying. This midway through the, Show
(02:15:58):
Dan horride texted me going this is, Awesome like this is,
awesome and he wasn't sending me that text when it
was me And. ROCKY i, mean it's just, no, yeah,
right just like this is. Awesome and that was our
first show and SO i you, know for, ME i
knew instantly like we have something. Here and then when
they put them on this, show it's, like all, right big,
(02:16:19):
boy it's a little bit of a different. Animal you,
know you're you're leading and he did, awesome and you,
know it's it's a frustrating thing about our business is
you could be. Awesome it's, something and at times it
just simply doesn't.
Speaker 2 (02:16:32):
Matter and that.
Speaker 3 (02:16:33):
Sucks it.
Speaker 2 (02:16:33):
Sucks it goes back to one of THE i know
you've heard this saying, before like you haven't worked in
radio until you get. Fired the first Time i've been,
FIRED i know what it's, Like Like i've gotten that call.
Before it's not, great, well but it's it.
Speaker 29 (02:16:51):
Sucks it happens sometimes because there's a format, change as you,
know and sometimes it happens because there's new management where
they want to bring in their own. People and sometimes
it happens because the, audience just in some reacting or
the advertising, community just was that it was none of.
That and so that's what makes it, so it makes it, tough.
Man And tony wasn't the only one in our, company
(02:17:15):
not the only one in our. Building AND i didn't
Know tiff, well just our paths never really. Crossed But
i've Known rodney for a long.
Speaker 2 (02:17:23):
Time so, awesome.
Speaker 29 (02:17:24):
Awesome like, you you come to work doing this and
you know that there are certain realities that you have to,
accept but you still show up and you're passionate and
you care and you want to do the best you
can for yourself and for your audience or for your.
Coworkers AND i admire that in.
Speaker 2 (02:17:44):
People.
Speaker 29 (02:17:44):
Man and you, KNOW i didn't Know tiff extraordinarily, well
But i'm not a kiss one oh seven p, One
BUT i know. Enough, YEAH i, MEAN i know it
sounds good and she was really. Good rodney mainly working
behind the, scenes just one of the parts of the
back byzes of what we. Do and and what's interesting
about this is this is probably the most Extensive i've
(02:18:06):
ever really talked about these things BECAUSE i think this
has hit home with people in ways THAT i can't
recall other.
Speaker 2 (02:18:15):
Restructures i've never seen a reaction like this massive mass.
Speaker 29 (02:18:20):
Our show yesterday saying like they just took away a
member of my. Family and that's, like as hokey as it,
sounds that's what we're supposed to. Be we're supposed to
be part of your.
Speaker 2 (02:18:28):
Routine it was Like Barry larkin doing a radio show every,
day like and you local, Legend like.
Speaker 29 (02:18:37):
You ask someone to give a host their time and they,
do and then they just take the host. Away that's
It's it's the one thing about this. Industry it's not
just here THAT i and there's a whole station that
guy In, milwaukee the voice of the, packers like they
(02:18:57):
what we, do and we do it. Often and WHEN
i say, WE i don't mean anybody here the. Industry
the industry will just remove people that have been part
of folks daily routines and lives with no.
Speaker 2 (02:19:08):
Warning and at Times i've done this before where you're told, like,
well don't address.
Speaker 29 (02:19:12):
It you know when when years AGO i had a
two man show With Greg doyle and they with two
g's and they let him go and the next, day they're, like,
well don't talk about, it and so what AM i
supposed to? Do and thankfully those folks not here. Anymore,
uh you, know the next, Day i'm supposed to show
(02:19:32):
up and pretend that you never had a show With
greg it was always, you like AND i didn't mad
at me and, like well you're not supposed to talk about,
It like how stupid do you think the audience? Is
and so WHAT i will say is with, yesterday with
regards To tony And tiff And, rodney no one has
said don't talk about, them and no one has said
(02:19:53):
don't talk from the, heart and no one said don't take.
Calls and that's not always been the.
Speaker 2 (02:19:57):
CASE i think that's another testament to how Important tony
is to this. Community it didn't come from, here came from,
above AND i think the people here know it deserved
more than to be. IGNORED i just.
Speaker 29 (02:20:13):
Want, once someone who has to make that, decision sit
in front of a microphone for three.
Speaker 2 (02:20:19):
Hours, yeah once, once you have a great show, today.
Sir we'll do our. Best see us. Soon that's since three.
Sixty i'll see.
Speaker 3 (02:20:30):
It, Yeah i'll be.
Speaker 1 (02:20:32):
Back So Ky, cincinnati make us the number one pre
set on your car radio and on the free Knew
it Improved iHeartRadio App free never sounded so.
Speaker 2 (02:20:44):
GOOD espn fifteen Thirty Mugger here schools are bet
