game anyway.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Yeah, have things gotten better? I know the other day
had a rough day with the kids.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
We might have to do a whole segment one day

Speaker 1 (01:24):
It's time for Locks of the Weekend on ESPN fifteen thirty.
You know, back in whenever it was March April, you
guys were doing your top five favorite sports weekends. This
was on my list, the first NFL weekend, which by
the way, now includes a game tonight and obviously Week
two of college football. And it's great if you're a
(01:44):
non better and it's awesome if yeah, you love to play.
And that's what this segment is all about. Locks of
the Weekend on ESPN fifteen thirty. Always great to be
a part of Sincy three sixty on excuse me, what what? Oh,
it's not sincey three sixty anymore, it's not since E
(02:05):
three sixty on Fridays, What's it's still Tony and Austin. Okay,
all right, still do the thing with the talkbackers, all right,
all right, here we go, take two, coming down in
three to two in one.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Guys, Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
It's one of the best weekends on the sports calendar.
You guys months ago were doing your top five favorite
sports weekends.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
This was on my list.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
First weekend of the NFL, which now you have games Thursday, Friday,
Sunday and Monday, and then obviously all the college football
and hopefully a profitable weekend for locks of the weekend
listeners on ESPN fifteen thirty. And it is awesome to
be to be a part of Friday Football follies on SKI.
Oh okay, it's not Friday Football. It's Friday Football Frenzy.
(02:55):
Friday Football Frenzy. God, they must have spent forever coming
up with that name. All right, try again, take three.
Here we go in three to two and one. Guys,
thank you so much. What a great weekend.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Back, I don't know when it was you guys were
doing your top five weekends in all of sports. This
was one of my weekends. First NFL weekend week to
of college football. Lots of games, on the menu, lots
of games to hopefully make money on. It's always great
to be a part of Friday Football Frenzy. By the way,
I'm in a frenzy right now, Friday Football Frenzy on
(03:32):
ESPN fifteen thirty. Let's start with the college slate. By
the way, we went too and oh on Friday last week.
Let's try to go one and o tonight. I'll lay
the points with Northwestern, good showing against what still should
be a pretty decent Miami offense. Northwestern at home is
laying two and a half against Duke. We will gladly
do it. We'll lay the number with Texas. This open
(03:52):
at seven, and I know in the surface it seemed big, right.
Michigan is the defending national champions and they have a
talented defense. Texas is just better. Michigan's offense trying to
replace too many guys. Texas has an experienced quarterback, a
good offensive line, some good skill guys. The number is
seven and a half. I know they're on the road.
(04:14):
I think they cover it. I'll take Texas. I'll lay
the points. I'll take the seven and a half. With
NC State at home against Tennessee. Watch Jordan Waters. NC
State's transfer running back gonna be a big factor in
keeping this close. Do I think NC State wins not necessarily.
I do think they keep this game close. I'll take
(04:35):
this seven and a half points. Tarren Blant Special bowling
Green getting thirty four.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
And a half points at Penn State.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
James Franklin undefeated straight up against Max schools, but the
Nitney Lions have only won three of those games by
more than five touchdowns. I will go ahead and take
the thirty four and a half tomorrow for a noon
tilt in Happy Valley.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
I'll lay the twenty eight. You might not like hearing
me say this.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
I think Louisville actually might be good, and I think
they will comfortably cover against Jacksonville State. I'll lay the
twenty eight points Notre Dame. We lost on Notre Dame
last week. We still have Notre Dame to win the
national title. Those odds and it's a value play. Those
odds have come down. We got it at plus twenty
eight hundred at kickoff it was plus twenty five hundred.
(05:25):
Their schedule is easy the rest of the way for
the most part, but the number tomorrow night is a
little bit too big. Against Northern Illinois twenty nine and
a half points. Following a win over a ranked opponent,
favorites of more than three touchdowns playing the following week
against an FBS opponent cover just forty three and a
half percent of the time. Northern Illinois is gonna play slow,
(05:48):
They're gonna run it a lot, They're gonna not keep
it close, but they'll cover the twenty nine and a
half points. It is a long standing thing that I
have to remind you when we do this. I do
not make wagers against the teams that I root for.
I don't like it. If you like to do it,
that's okay. Some people like to emotionally hedge. I don't
(06:11):
do it. I don't love this tomorrow for the Bearcats. Now,
I like everything I saw from Brendan Soresby, and I'll
allow for the fact that defensively the Bearcats were very vanilla.
And they get Dante Corleone back. We'll see what his
role is tomorrow, and I do think they're gonna be
They're gonna be a little bit more creative instead of
just lining up in a three three five. But we
(06:33):
went into the season worrying about Cincinnati stopping the run.
We watched the Bearcats last week and we saw Cincinnati
have a hard time stopping the run. They won the
game at pitt last year in large part because they
were really good at stopping the run. Pittsburgh ran for
less than three yards of pop. I just don't know
(06:54):
about this. I just don't know. I've said all year
long that how I feel about the season largely hit
on this game, and I think the Bearcats are gonna
win some games in the Big Twelve. The schedule is
very underwhelming, but let me tell you what wasn't underwhelming.
Pittsburgh last week against Kent State. Say what you want
about Ken State, Desmond Reed ran for over ten yards
(07:15):
of pop. I just worry about this a little bit
too much. Pitt is getting right now too. It opened
at two and a half. I'm staying away. I don't
love this. I'm not a homer when it comes to
the locks of the weekend.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
I desperately want to be wrong.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
And if I am, well, we'll go out and celebrate
on Saturday night and we'll talk about how the Bearcats
can maybe start. Dare I say five to zero. But
I think this game tomorrow is gonna be tough. I
need to see u Se stop the run before I
believe they will. They're not gonna stop the run. I
need to see them slow down the run. And I
think the Bearcats might be better equipped to win a shootout,
(07:54):
might be better equipped to come back, but I need to
see more. I think the smart play here, don't get
mad at me, is to take the points. Let's talk
about the NFL. We'll get to the Bengals game last.
I like Brian Callahan plus twenty five hundred to be
(08:14):
the NFL's Coach of the Year. I think that's a
great value play. There's a ton of hype around the Bears,
and there should be one of the best receiving units
in the league, a defense that finished last year great
and looks really good, and everybody believes Caleb Williams is
going to be a star. I just think four is
a little bit too many. I like Tennessee's additions. I
(08:36):
think Tennessee at least keeps this close on the road.
I'll take the four points. Kind of the same principle
here with the Texans. Everybody's on the Texans. I just
think there's a little bit of a difference from being
the surprise team to now the Hunted with a lot
of preseason hype. I think Indy covers this number against Houston.
(08:58):
I've got Miami covering the three and a half at home.
I just don't know how the Jacksonville Jaguars are gonna
slow down Tyreek Kill and Jalen Waddle. I'm also gonna
go over forty nine is I think what I saw
the number at I didn't write it down, but take
the over Jacksonville Miami. I was listening to a very
good NFL podcast co hosted by a friend of the show,
Austin Gale, called the Bread Zone, and they introduced a
(09:21):
concept that I think I'm gonna I'm gonna sort of.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
Make a rule this year.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
We're gonna bet the underdog on the money line in
every NFC South Divisional game. So we're gonna go Carolina
money line, which I think is at plus one point eighty.
I do think they'll cover the spread. They're getting three
and a half points. I'm not sure what's good about
the New Orleans Saints. I'm not sure what's great about
(09:47):
the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
In fact, nothing is. But I'm gonna get three and
a half points here.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
By the way, since twenty fourteen, underdog's indivisional games have
been thirty seven, fifteen and one against the spread in
Week one the last ten years. That is insane. So
that trend applies to the Panthers, it applies to the
Colts who are taking it applies to Las Vegas, who
were staying away from But I'll take Carolina. Also like
(10:13):
Seattle laying the five and a half against Denver the
Bengals game. I wrote about the Bengals game last week
for Forbes. Not much has changed. Obviously, as I do
this on Friday morning, we don't know anything for certain
about Jamar and Chase. Perhaps that changes, but with or
without Jamar Chase, I just don't know how New England scores.
I don't know how New England scores against bad defenses.
(10:35):
I don't know how New England scores against good defenses.
I don't know how they score against defenses that are
kind of in transition, which the Bengals are maybe the
worst wide receiver corp in the NFL, awful offensive line,
and Jacoby Brissett. Now you might go, well, New England
defensively might be good enough to stay in it and
perhaps they are one of the best run defenses in
(10:56):
the NFL last year, best run defense in the history
of the Patriots Frans, but twenty seventh in the NFL
in pass rush win rate.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
And that's with Matthew Judan. Yes, New England is healthier.
New England is not very good.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
This feels like the Bengals getting an FCS opponent. They
are clearly the most popular survivor pool pick for Week one.
By the way, what has become my biggest NFL pet
peeve is listening to someone midway through the season tell
you about their survivor league. I took the Bengals. You
should take the Bengals. You should lay the points I did.
We'll talk about it on Monday on The Tony and
(11:33):
Mo Football Show without Tony this week at Twin Peaks
in Florence. And don't forget we're broadcasting on Sunday morning
from the Holy Grail before Bengals and Pats starting at
nine oh five on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Guys, have a great weekend. Back to you, all right.
That is a Mueger. Appreciate his locks real quick. We
talked about this kind of during our Pickham segment I
like Texas. I'm laying the points with Texas. I'm opposite
of mo I am. I've been bullish on them all offseason,
so I got to be bullish on him. Now I
am bullish on them covering the number and winning this game.
(12:05):
Oddly enough, I like South Florida to cover the number
against Alabama thirty one and a half. Give me South Florida,
which just feels weird saying to cover a number. I
liked an under in Duke in Northwestern at thirty seven
and tonight seven pm BYU plus ten and a half.
I know I'm on opposite end from the NFL standpoint
(12:27):
with Austin here. I do like the Eagles tonight minus
the two and a half, and I am completely with
Moegger in the sense of the Bengals covering even though
Austin as that was playing. The official injury report is
out for the Bengals. I am shocked at this. T
Higgins is listed as doubtful. Yeah, Jamar Chase listed as questionable,
(12:48):
Mems Jenkins both out. That is not a surprise. T
Higgins from yesterday feeling the best he's felt going into
a season to now being doubtful for Sunday is quite
the twenty four.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Hours, Yeah, officially listed as doubtful as just it's crazy
to me, I'm bout expect that by any stretch of
the imagination. Just really confusing, really confusing. But since we
are in the Locks of the Night portion of the show,
because of that, I will take Chase Brown over two
(13:23):
and a half receptions Chase Brown over two and a
half receptions on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Give me the Texans.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Can the Bengals beat the Patriots without T Higgins and
without Jamar Chase? Do you think the Higgins hamstring is
at all contract relate?
Speaker 5 (13:42):
I hope not. I wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Wouldn't that be pulling something over? Hey, I'm this guy
all camp and now I'm not.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
I don't think that. I I don't think that's who T.
Higgins is. But people are gonna start saying Adan doing
the old Adam Schefter thing.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Agents. Give me Tampa and I will take the Houston
Texans as well. So with that, I know, we got
about a minute left. That's all my locks coming up next.
Bengals pep Rally. They're outside the studio right now.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
With Dan Horde and Dave Lapham live from our our
newly decorated studios here in Kenwood, looking forward to the
first PEP Rally show of the year.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I can't wait. Those guys are out there. They are
feverishly preparing for the next three hours. Two of the
best to do it, Dan and Dave, So listen into
that Bearcats pitt Tomorrow Bengals. We are the home of
the Bengals, Bengals Patriots on Sunday. With that being said,
it's been an awesome first week of the football season, Monday, midday,
(14:45):
Quarterback Friday football Frenzy since he three sixty. Thanks for listening,
Thanks to our callers, listeners, talkbackers, sponsors, everyone that helps
make this show possible. As most said there, and as
I talked about earlier in the week, I am out Monday.
It's the worst, worst, worst timed charity function that I
ever do, being the first Monday of the football season,
but it is a very important charity that I like
(15:06):
to spend time with as well. So I'm out Monday.
Back for normal going forward and we'll have all the
reaction needed from the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and
the UC Bearcats against the pit Panthers. Have a great weekend, Austin.
Thanks for your help this week, same tone, have a
great weekend, Thanks for listening, and enjoy Bengals pep rally
