Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hi, Hello, welcome in our number three of Cincy three
to sixty, ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
My name is Austin Elmore.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
No Tony Pike today Big Tone back on Monday, and
also making a return to the show is our friend
Tommy g who, for whatever reason last week just couldn't
make it work. And so for that reason we are
blaming him on the rough stretch, for the rough stretch
that de f C Cincinnati is going through right now.

(00:49):
But thankfully Tommy's back, so things should be different from
this point forward.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
And Tommy joins us. Now, Hi Tommy, how are you? Austin?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
I am good to chat with you.

Speaker 5 (01:01):
I apologize we really screwed things up, but you're showing
grace and not booing me in my return, So I'm
I'm very thankful for that, and and I'm thankful for
your grace and listen, there's a lot of factors in
what happened last Friday.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yes, and there's a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
Of different people who are responsible for what happened last Friday.
I'm not gonna point fingers, but but I'm part of
the problem. And I'll raise my hand and say that,
and and listen, it wasn't a great week after I
missed the show last Friday. So if I'm feeling the
burden of some responsibility on my.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Back, then I will. I will, you know, admit fault there.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
But I'm here today and I'm ready to to, you know,
recenter the ship and get things back on track.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
You know, there's a phrase that I often fall back
on that says, past the tissues. We've all got issues,
and you're right, it's a team effort, and you know
we all have been better. Speaking of team efforts and
speaking of booze, Lucciano Acosta returns to tiqu Ell Stadium
with FC Dallas the other night. Were you surprised by

(02:04):
the amount of booze that Acosta got?

Speaker 4 (02:07):
I wasn't surprised.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Listen, Fans have the right and the opportunity to react
however they want. I think everybody understands what Lucco meant
to this team, and you know, and and helped in
turning it around. Obviously, MVP was part of that supporter
shield team. You know, scored a bunch of goals, assisted

(02:30):
on more goals, more goal contributions than anybody who's ever
worn the kid. You know, the separation was not clean,
and it was not easy, and he said a lot
a lot of things that I think hurt the fans,
because the fans screamed and yelled and cheered for him
and bought his jerseys and T shirts and you know,
celebrated every one of his goals and assists along the way,

(02:50):
and you know, the way he left was you know,
unceremonious and and hurtful. I think to some of the fans,
so do they have a right to boo sure? You know,
is that the right response for him? Listen, that's not
for me to decide. He didn't get the Frankie Amaya treatment,
you know, Listen, Frankie Amaya got a whole different that's
I remember that, you know, the very high end extreme

(03:14):
of a former Ciscincinnati player that has been booed. I
don't know that there have been you know, many others
besides those two who have been booed, you know, because
there haven't been separations like that for the most part.
But uh, you know what was interesting is he didn't
really factor into the game. He was out there and
there was like maybe three moments where you saw that

(03:36):
brilliance that you know he has right where he turns
it on and he beats the defender or he makes
a pass that you don't expect. None of them led
to a bowl, and you know, there was he was
a non factor really for my money in the match.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
To be honest, I don't really know how his season
is going. How how is it going. He hasn't done much.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
I mean, he doesn't have an assistant yet for Dallas,
which is crazy, and there's sixteen games in the regular season.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
He doesn't have an assist. Like that's his bread and
butter right there.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Yeah, the goals are great, but you know, he only
has three goals, so the goal contributions are way down,
you know for him, And and Kevin and I talked
about this a little bit on the air, and and
he's such a unique talent and obviously, you know, everybody
here knows what he's capable of. I think it takes
teammates a while to understand and get in sync with him.

(04:28):
And I think that's certainly been the case with Dallas.
They have some talented players, no doubt, but I don't
know that they've all figured out how to play with Luco.
Like Brandon Vasquez figured it out quickly and benefited, you know,
from him.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Others did not along the way.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
You know that we're here in Cincinnati, and but but Brandon,
you know, knew exactly, you know, what Luco needed and
what Luco was going to provide to him, and Brandon
benefited to it and from it and.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Was able to score a lot of goals.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
So I don't know that those Dallas players have really
figured out the best way to work with him. And
that's probably, you know, part of the reason and part
of it that team has struggled.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
After a three to three draw to Lucco and Dallas
a couple of days ago, Pat Noonan said it was
an embarrassing performance that coming off of a four to
two loss in Atlanta. Team's just not in great form
right now. It's been some bad luck. How would you
describe this stretch that FC is in.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
You know, I think it's I mean, a lack of
focus and execution on the defensive side, you know, since
Nick had then suffers that injury and comes out of
the game, and look, I think it shook them a
little bit. I'm not going to blame that on anything
that happened, but it shook them and obviously had to
make a defensive change early in that match. But since
then they've conceded seven goals.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
This was a.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Defense that was, you know, before those two games, was
conceding just over a goal of match. So to concede
seven goals in two games is obviously a stark, stark
contrast to what was going on. So I think that
it shows, you know, how important Nick is and how
well he was playing this year. Pat Newton called it
some of the best defense. You know, that that nick

(06:09):
best form that that he had seen from Nick since
you know, being with this club, and I would agree
with that. I also think that there's just been a
lack of execution. I kind of asked Kevin the question
on the air the other night, you know, I think
it was after two goals had been conceded, and I said,
you know, is there something that you're seeing in romans
play that could be better in these goals, and he's like, no,
he's kind of in many ways.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Being hung out to dry.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
And so I think it's been a tough two games
for the team defensively. I mean, Pat didn't mince any words, right,
He told us on the air the same type of thing.
I think he called it disgraceful and called it amateurs
and and said.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Guys weren't ready to go.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
And you know that's not gonna be good enough, and
so the coach is gonna hold people accountable. You know,
I'm really intrigued to see what this lineups looked like tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
First of all, to the third.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Match in seven days, so there's gonna have to be
some natural rotation, but at the same time, like you're
not gonna rotate heavily. If you had won the game
on Wednesday night, maybe there's a little more rotation and
you take a few chances with trying to get some
guys some rests. But they're off for two weeks after
this match tomorrow, So I think that there's Robinson guys,
he's gonna ask to dig deep because they got to
get a win and go into this halfway point of

(07:15):
the season and the international break on a high note.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
So it'll be it'll be very intriguing.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
But I don't think there's any question that that you
could say the defense has been really disappointing these last
two matches.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
On the other side, though five goals in the last
two games, offensively, they are generating some output. What is
working at the top of the formation there.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
You know, if you if if if we had had
this conversation last Friday and you had told me that
the team was going to get five goals in those two.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Games and and come out of it.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
With just a point, I would have thought you're crazy,
I'll be honest, especially considering that the way the team
has been playing. So I think that that that part is,
you know, certainly disappointing that you've seen this offensive outbreak
look out of Venezuela has continued to be very very good.
Started the game in Atlanta, then he came in off
the bench and obviously scored the other night at TQO Stadium,

(08:07):
So I think you have to be enthused about what
he's been able to contribute to the team.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
We've seen Kevin Denke.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
Obviously, he scored the penalty kick on Wednesday night, I
just think that they're continuing to find the form. They're
continuing to get shots off team high or a team
record twenty eight shots in that Atlanta game. You know, Yeah,
that's a kind of disappointing staff to have and then
realized he came out on the losing end of it.
But still you got the opportunities and they're they're finding

(08:34):
better quality in the final third, and that's what Pat
has been preaching for and the team's delivered in many ways.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Talking with Tom Gallater, the voice of FC Cincinnati, the
voice of the Orange and Blue, you mentioned another game
three and seven days coming up tomorrow at TQL Stadium
against d C United. What is the scouting report on DC?

Speaker 4 (08:57):
That DC's a team has struggled.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
They've made a change a goalkeeper and that's that's brought
their goals allowed down. As Luis Barraza has seen more
minutes there, we saw this DC team.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Dottles scored the.

Speaker 5 (09:07):
Game winner and if you remember when we went to
the nation's capital back in April, so their team that
hasn't been playing as well. But you could say that
for a couple that you could say that for Atlanta,
you can say that for Dallas and and again only
one point out of those two games. So I think
it's a it's a team that has some talent. Christian
beIN Tech is hurt right now, so I don't think
that we will see him in the game tomorrow. So

(09:28):
so their lineup looks a little bit different. He leaves
the team in goals this season. Obviously, it's just a
massive target player, uh, you know, a world class talent
that has come on and scored a bunch of goals
in Major League Soccer since joining the side.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
So if if Bentechy.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
Can't go, then then that's certainly a benefit to f
C Cincinnati. But I think it's they got to get
back to, you know, being really strong defensively and not
having the breakdowns that are kind of leaving Rome and
you know, hanging him out to dry a little bit
and making it very difficult on them. So I think
if you start there with the defense and that improves,
then the rest will come together.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
But they're also gonna have.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
To dig deep.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
The third match in seven days not easy.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
Certainly has been a busy stretch, a busy busy month
of May, and so they're gonna have to be much
sharper than what we've seen in order to get this result,
but certainly got to get a result going into this
break and being right there at the halfway point. Look,
you're in a good position. Despite the disappointment of the
last week. You're still in a really good position as
far as the table is concerned.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
And if you get the three points, you'll continue to
sit in.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
That position and set yourself up well for the second
half of the season, especially knowing a lot of games
will be at home in the second half.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Of the season.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
You've mentioned guys gonna have to dig deep with this
stretch here, how do you personally, you, Kevin, everybody on
the broadcast crew, how do you dig deep? Three matches
in seven days? How do you make sure that you
are ready to go for tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (10:51):
Listen?

Speaker 5 (10:52):
You know, and I think Kevin said the other day,
like nobody talks about broadcast recovery, right, Like nobody highlights that.
So you know, you are to man for bringing some
attention to we have to dig deep. Our vocal cords
are important too, and you know, so a lot of water,
a little tea if needed, you know, lozenges you gotta have,
you know, well, stocked supply of call shops, just to

(11:13):
make sure that you're ready to go. But listen, we're
in the middle of the season. I'm it is a
midseason form right here. I'm I am locked and loaded
and feel good. You know if it's not gonna skip
a radio interview on this Friday, No way, not after
what happened last week.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
We got to be here and we're gonna make this
happen for you.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Are you aware of what they call the medicine ball
at Starbucks? Have you ever had that? I am aware
of it.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
I've never had to bring it in, I've never gone.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Have you used it? I use it a lot.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Yeah, I used it most, like most of December, November
and December last year. I had one almost every single
day because I was struggling.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
But yeah, no, I've never I'm definitely aware of it,
and I know others who have. Have you made that
call the bullpen? I think unfortunate? Is it on the shelf?
We get to ask for it.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
It's called a honey citrus mint tea. Honey citrus mint
tea as.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
Not to need it, But you're gonna be my first
text message if I get to that point. I mean,
the reality is that listen, we do what we do,
that becomes a time we all have to make that call.
But right now I feel great and I'm ready to go.
It should be a fun night. Sounds like it's about
a sellout very close if not people that are locking
their tickets today. The weather today may be frightful, but

(12:33):
it's gonna be awesome tomorrow. So it make sure you
come out because then the team's at home for a
month with the FIFA Club World Cup coming through. Uh,
they're gonna be on the road for three straight and
won't be back until the first week of July.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
The other thing I have to bring up to you, Tommy, Yes,
this was really concerning to me personally.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
We've we've talked a lot in the.

guys's camera equipment and audio equipment to see if they
could maybe implement it into their program.

Speaker 4 (13:59):

Speaker 3 (14:24):

We went to the deli.

We got sandwiches from the right back, and I ate
half on the ride back and I ate half for dinner.
I mean it was that big. It was worth every
penny they got. Brought back a loaf of bread from there,
nice jewish rye. So I'm stocked the next few days.
We're we're in a good place.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
And said, and if I'm well fed, I'm a happy
guy on a Friday. So here we are.
