Sincey three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part
by Skyline Chile. Stop by Skyline Chili through a three
way or cheez Coney. Today, feeling good, It's Skyline Time.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Good afternoon, Welcome in, Happy Thursday. It is since he
three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks
to our friends. It's Skyline Chili. For anytime you're feeling
good and hungry, It's Skyline Time. Thanks for joining us.
Let's just take a moment here here it is another

(00:55):
Cincinnati sports season has come to a crashing halt. Red's
swept out of Los Angeles. Their season is ended. They
do so in a microcosm of what went wrong over
the course of one hundred and sixty two games for them.
So true, all combined in one game last night.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Questionable managerial decisions yes, pitching decisions yes. Inability to hit
in big time moments. Runner, you're three four and five.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Hitters in scoring position, lineup questions, bat's on shoulders, shoddy defense,
inability to field cleanly.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
So many things we have to talk about.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Swinging it, pitches, seventeen inches outside to strike soon.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
The end of the season, and what we'll talk about today.
If you're one of those out there and listen, everyone
is entitled to their own opinion. Your opinion might not
agree with mine. If you are one that's out there
today celebrating a successful red season merely because they made
it in on the last day of the year due

(02:02):
to another team's meltdown in an expanded playoff field. If
you count this season as a success, then we just disagree.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
I think it is possible to be happy that they
made the postseason, sure, and I think we all should
be happy that they made the postseason. That's good for
us as fans, it's good for the organization. But that
does not mean that the season can be labeled a success. Correct.
And from what I saw the reporting from our friend

(02:34):
Joe Danoman made me is that in the locker room
the clubhouse post game there was a sense of accomplishment.
That does not sit right with me, and that to me,
speaks to a bigger issue about the organizational attitude towards winning. Yeah,
they finished with eighty three regular season wins. Eighty three

(02:58):
in a normal season. That doesn't get you.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
In in a season where a team doesn't have a
historical collapse, you're not in correct, and yet you get
swept out of LA and there is a feel of accomplishment.
We're going to spend a lot of time on that today.
We're going to talk what happened in the other MLB games.
All three other games, by the way, Austin, the team's

(03:22):
facing elimination, forced a game three today. Yeah, Tiger's Guardians, Padres, Cubs,
Red Sox, Yankees, all happening today, lose and go home,
Wims and you're in.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Have all been fun and competitive, very true.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I thought about maybe doing the show like Shador Sanders today,
Oh and just minding everything.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
That's not a bad idea. What a clown act that
was from Shador Sanders yesterday. And you know what's funny
is people start blaming the media. It's like, why did
the media go to him to get a reaction? Well,
why do you think correct? Because they know they can
correct because he is a and an immature guy played

(04:04):
right into it, and he played right into it.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Here's what else we got coming up in our number
three today. Bob Manjean, University of Cincinnati and Novacare will
join us. How about Tom Gamble, the Chief. Oh Tom Gamble,
love that guy. Twenty eight years I believe has been
running the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Now.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
I used to produce his show Gambling Finn Yeah down
the Hall on Thursday Night, So I used to have
so much fun doing that.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Well, here's the thing. Last week they saw a good one.
They were at Saint X for Elder Saint X and
tomorrow night one of the top ten games across the
US as listed is Elder and Moler, but he's not
going there. He'll be at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Skyline
Chili Crosstown Showdown rolls to reading tomorrow night. Oh boy,
we're gonna talk to Tom Gamble in our number three

(04:49):
as well. How about coming up at twelve thirty. You
want something to believe in, you want something to fight for,
you want something that you can get behind. How about
the Cincinnati Bearcats. Let's go led by brent In Soresby,
who will join us live today at twelve thirty.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
It's just gonna be two guys chopping it up. Just
a couple of QBS sit coming for all your records.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Give any records left a couple. Have we checked on
that couple? I keep meaning to do that.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Oh, by the way, for ada Z Sports John Shearon, Yes,
and before I before I dive into what today is
and why it is special. I also, Austin would be
remissed if I didn't mention today. A good friend of mine,
Wayne Carucci. Now A couple of years ago, Wayne Carucci
retired and Austin, when you retire, you could just kind

(05:36):
of ride off into the sunset if you'd like. Sure,
you could play a lot of golf if you'd like.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Wayne Carucci, while playing a lot of golf, said nah, baby, Nah,
I'm going to get into coaching, and he started coaching
at Roger Bacon. He coaches the boys golf team at
Roger Bacon. When he got there, they went from one
win to now. They won sectionals. They came in second districts,

(06:01):
top two teams advance. The Roger Bacon boys golf team
is heading to state for the first time since nineteen
forty one. Blake Rowling, Alistair Fike ty Dumont, Henry full Willer,
Jude Voss all underclassmen, no seniors. So some would say
Wayne Carucci is building a powerhouse at Roger Bacon. Shout

(06:21):
out to my friend Wayne Carucci for what he has
going on, and to Roger Bacon Golf for what they've
done first time since nineteen forty one. That is incredible.
Congratulate those kids. Congratulations, Austin goes out to us today.
We don't do this much. Let's just pot ourselves on
the shoulders a little bit today.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
Let's give a huge, a huge thank you. I was
patting myself.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Let's give a huge thank you to our listeners, our callers,
our talkbackers, sponsors, from day one, everyone that has made
this show possible in its inception when it was a
one hour show Houston, which then grew to two and
now noon to three daily. It's since he three sixty

(07:08):
eighth anniversary.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Today, I think of people like James Rapeene, the visionary
to us, behind the product, behind the project, behind the show,
Moe Egger who did it himself for quite some time.
We think of people like Jimmy Sandy produced for many years,
so Jeff Jimmy, Guys like Jeff Carr who were a
part of this show, so many great ones. Tarren Bland

(07:33):
has helped out Sean McMahon, Drew Wester, Heidi all have
played major even our guy Liam, who has helped me
and he's covered more than once and left talkbacks. He's
probably ripping a couple of heaters right now. Would be
my guest. So many people over the years, Chad Brindle,
how could we forget? How about I think ken Brew
filled in one time. Yeah, there's been all sorts of

(07:56):
different people, wonderful sponsors. Skyline's been here from the very beginning.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Do you remember when we had rides as a sponsors?
That was a fun time. What about Voke Energy chewable tablet?
Do you remember getting voked up back in the day.
I do a lot of good stuff, and you know,
I've only been here for like four of it, so
you know, obviously it was long before me. But you know,
everybody from from Tarn Bland to Rick Uccino to Jimmy

(08:22):
Sandy to Anthony Pike and Mo Eggar and everyone else.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
What a day.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
It's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Here's to uh, what do they say, eight more years?

Speaker 4 (08:32):
I'm just lucky if we get eight more minutes.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
Yep, that's what I'd like to do.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
You know, my dad often says when it's him and
my mom's anniversary, no matter how many years they've been
doing it. But anytime I wonder how long they've been
doing it, I think about my age and my mom
and dad had been married thirty nine years now, and
every time they have an anniversary, my dad goes to
that same line. He says, you know, to me, it
only feels like thirty nine minutes underwater.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
So in lieu of Big Steve.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
To do you feel like you're underwater right now?

Speaker 5 (09:04):
I do? Yeah, I do it.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Uh, it feels like it's flown by eight special special.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
You've been here for You've been doing it for five six,
I think it's six now six.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
It's crazy because I've been doing the Tony and Moe
Football Show for eleven, and that doesn't make sense like
I was just hanging out for those for those years
where I just do the one day and be like,
all right, see you next week.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
You've got other guys. I'm thinking about some of the
constant guests that we have had, Charlie Goldsmith. Obviously in
the early years, Adam Baum was on the ball. Love
Adam Baum.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
Yep, oh Man, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Joey d obviously a big part of it.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
So many people have made this possible, and honestly, I
can't thank everyone enough from again, our listeners, talk about talkbacks,
have become the guest, the sponsors, everyone that has has
poured into this show.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Guys like Richard, Remember Richard, shout out to Richard. I
love Richard.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
We need and this is serious, we need soon a
Cincy three to sixty appreciation night. We used to do
them more regularly on the schedule. We need to get
one of those.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
In kind of try to do them this year. And
you bailed.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Yeah, we need to get one of those in soon.

Speaker 6 (10:19):
But uh, I asked myself, would you give your life
for Joe Burrow?

Speaker 7 (10:23):
Because he gave his life for you still holds.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
True today it's a good point. Would you give your toe?
What would you give for Cincy three sixty? Yeah, let's
celebrate today by talking about the Reds.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
How we're looking.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
I thought, Austin, I thought we'd have a chance of
coming today and talk about the Reds have given us life.
And by golly, we got one more shot tonight. I
thought about it last night.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
I thought that if the Reds made the playoffs, Nicolodolo
and Andrew Abbott would throw more than fourteen combined pitches.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah, well, you know, Lodolo really slugged through last night.
He just didn't have his stuff.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Was there a sane person on social media last night
that thought Zach Lttel should go back out for the fourth?

Speaker 5 (11:08):
No?

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Was there a sane person that watched when Nick Martinez
took the mound and wondered, Wow, did Nick Lodolo get hurt?
Chase Burns minimal? Andrew Abbot minimal? Why Nick Lodolo minimal?

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Why?

Speaker 6 (11:26):
Year?

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Sorry?

Speaker 8 (11:26):
All year?

Speaker 3 (11:27):
What we hear Austin? The Reds will be dangerous in
the playoffs because of their pitching Lodolo, Abbot, Green Burns.
They got how much from them?

Speaker 4 (11:35):
I thought they would?

Speaker 5 (11:37):
How much from them?

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Fourteen pitches from Abbot and Lodolo, sixty five pitches in
which they were being tipped by Hunter Green and Chase
Burns pitched the last inning of the season when the
game was basically out of hand last night? Why go
to Nick Martinez in the sixth instead of Chase Burns?

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Don't get it? Why take Lodolo out? Don't get it?
And you feel if you're Will Benson, I actually feel
really bad for Will benchon you know Will Benson in
his first at bat last night.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
One of the best at bets he's ever showed a
great eye walked and even though he was down one too,
it looked like he was seeing the ball well.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
And I think he was seeing it so well that
Roberts thought, I'm not even gonna risk this. She hands
missing his spot. I'm not gonna risk this game changing
because we miss a spot. They bring in a picture
and Terry Francona takes the bat out of Will Benson's hand,
which is one unfair to him and two unfair to
give andngehar the bat but he's already down two strikes.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
And then he strikes out on the strikeout is a
sign to Will Benson. Yeah, and Benson understandably just walks
down to the tunnel. For him to have his season
end like that, Yeah, that is insulting to Will Benson, who, yes,
has had some moments where he leaves you scratching your
head and leaves you frustrated. But also it felt like

(12:57):
a dude who made a legitimate adjustment and was slowly
but steadily improving over the course of the entire season.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
And for the whatever thirty chunk thirty game chunk of
the season where he did not get a shot. That
I just I don't understand.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Is it bat was great Austin. I watched in the
first inning last night. I think one of the best
of bouts of the season was south Stewart. Yeah, I agree,
And I thought to myself, this guy couldn't even make
the roster until the end of the year, and this
guy got played sparingly down the stretching in the postseason.
That at bat and not only the a bat Austin.

(13:37):
We heard what Joe Daniman said about the feeling in
the clubhouse. Do you think south Stewart had that feeling?
That man was angry. Yeah, he was upset after that
game last night. He didn't want it to end. He
was responsible for three of the runs. One of the
best at bats you'll see against Austin, one of the
best pitchers in all of baseball, got two strikes, battled

(14:02):
ends up, choking down a little bit, two RBI single red's,
got the lead to nothing. That bat couldn't make this roster,
That bat couldn't consistently be in the lineup every day
on this team. And I'll say it, and I text
this to you guys last night, Austin. I thought Yamamota
was reeling a little bit. In the first I agree

(14:24):
there was an air. Stewart had a grated bat, and
then in the second he settled in because he threw
and got out Stevenson, and then he got the pitch
to Kee, Brian Hayes and Matt McLean and it felt
like after that he settled in, he found what he
was looking for and he was dominant. They had him
on the ropes, and the way the lineup is constructed,

(14:47):
in my opinion, let him off so much frustration and
what I thought would not be the case often to
where we had to question the managers, what the feel up,
the end game moves. It all finished, I think with
a lot to be desired, and for me, disappointment that

(15:12):
game didn't end last night and I didn't sit back like, well,
cheers to the twenty twenty five Reds. What a ride
it's been they made the playoffs. What a successful year.
I didn't think about that. I thought about how disappointing
it ended. You lose on the last game of the
regular season. You get in because the Mets lost, You
went forty to forty over your last eighty regular season games,

(15:35):
and you did things in the playoffs that were just
head scratching. I think frustrating was the word that came
to mind last night. Let's take our first break of
the day. We'll finish with or we'll talk more Reds
when we get back. We'll maybe grab a phone callar too.
And we got to get to Brendan Soersby was gonna
call us at twelve thirty today, it's all ahead with
so much to happen on the eighth anniversary of Sincy

(15:58):
three to sixty. Here's just so many more. Thanks the
Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Now your chance to win a thousand dollars.

Speaker 9 (16:07):
Answered playing, and he muscles one the met seed and
when makes the cash and that's all Reds ball eight
to four the doctors and the red season comes through
the clothes in Game.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Two of the National League Wild Guard Series.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
That's how the season sounded as it came to an
end last night for the Cincinnati Reds. But what I
will say, Austin is the good news is your season
doesn't have to come to an end for tailgating and
hosting get togethers thanks to Win Schulers. Our call today
brought to you by win Schuler's delicious cheese spreads. Don't

(16:46):
ask why, taste why. When it comes to parties, the bold,
fresh flavor of wind Schulers spreadable cheeses take a back
seat to no one, So make sure there's plenty on
hand when your next party kicks off.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Do you want one that's a little more positive, please?

Speaker 9 (17:00):
Swinging a soft ground ball past the first baseman, Freeman
hit rolls in the right, one run home right behind lux.
Here comes Hayes hand the red strike first, the kid
with a two run, go ahead single in the first inning.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
That was fun, man, I thought, all right, we'll be
right back here tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
So much fun. It's since he three sixty eight years
on air. Today, let's take a phone caller too. I
want to get the Brendan soaresby on time. Obviously, Austin,
when you think about the show, we've had great callers,
we've had great guests. We've had consistent callers as well.
We'll get to Jeff, we'll get to Mark, we'll get

(17:40):
to other phone callers. Our guy Mike has been as
consistent as they come since I can remember starting this show. Obviously,
the show happens because of listeners. Mike, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (17:50):
Well, I appreciate that, Tony. It goes both ways. Brother,
I appreciate you guys, and I know I can drive
you crazy sometimes and I apologize for that. I'm sure
thankful for the show, and hopefully guys get some more
years in there and keep hanging. I've been calling the
most since two thy ten, Wow, every day unless I

(18:12):
had surgery or lost part of my leg.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Yeah, I have incredible, incredible, Well, I have no life.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
But you know, once my wife passed away, everything changed
and the kids grew.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Up and went away.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
So ports talk radio has been a big thing for me,
and I'm very grateful for it. So thanks you, guys,
and congratulations.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
Thank you Mike.

Speaker 6 (18:33):
That's more important than anything because you're you know, you're
not superstars or you are here locally, but I mean
you just regular guys come in and do your job,
do good, and we're grateful for that.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
I appreciate that, Thank you, Mike.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
I think our biggest problem with the REGs is you
give up eighteen runs and two games you're not gonna win.
I mean, that's just it. Yep, you can't give up
that many runs.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
Especially when you look at how the other games played out. Yep.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
All the other games highly contest. Uh, I agree. It
just they they didn't compete the way they needed to.

Speaker 6 (19:05):
No, and we were all so high on the starting pitching,
and Hunter just froze up for some reason, got stage fried.
I don't who knows why, just bad time to crap out.
And then yesterday they just jumped on it again. So
uh they the Dodgers did it. I'll tell you what, man.
I liked the pop man.

Speaker 10 (19:23):
I kept waiting for Nanny to do something because I
was getting kind of hacked off at him. But he's
been doing it now for so long that I was
real happy he got he finally. That's the first clutch
hit i've seen him hit make all year. And I
know he's made something. I just haven't seen him. But
you could tell he was elated when.

Speaker 6 (19:41):
He hit that home run.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Correct.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
So, and that bullpen is scary, tony scary.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Doubt.

Speaker 6 (19:50):
I think it'll be a West Coast series. I think
it's going to be the Mariners and the UH and
the Pods and both teams good picking. What do you guys,
think I know the Philly is still hanging.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
The Phillies and the losses Zach Wheeler are so big,
and and the way the Dodgers are hitting the ball
right now, I'd have a hard time believing anyone can
beat them the way they swing. And I like the
Padres and what they can do offensively if they can
win today. But I'm with you, there's something about the
Mariners that I like. If not the Mariners, I'd like
to see the Blue Jays make a run at it.

Speaker 6 (20:22):
Yeah, I would too, because they haven't done for he said.
The thing with San Diego is and you get to
that bullpen and it's pretty much over unless something crazy happens,
like they all have a bad day. That little left hander,
that Moore John, he's no joke either. I hadn't seen
him but a couple of times this year. He's special.
But you're right. All the games has been low scoring
and close and fun, except for the Red Series. You know,

(20:45):
our pitching crept out and we thought for sure that
would be the fourteen. Anyway, Thanks guys.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Thank you, thank you. I have a great day.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
That to me, Austin at the very core of it,
was the most demoralizing. The conversation was if the red
get in, they can be dangerous because of their pitching.
Hunter green Tip is pitching. I don't know how that
happens in the playoffs, Hunter green Tipt, This pitches Nicolodolo
through minimally. Chase Burns pitched in garbage time. And the

(21:14):
player that represented you on the mound at the All
Star Game didn't even take the mound in the wild
Card series.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Hard to understand.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
All year we're talking about all year was pitching is
their chance.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
If you're going to choose not to spend as much
money as other teams, you have to make sure that
the rest of your operation is buttoned up. The Milwaukee
Brewers have a lower payroll than the Reds to the
number one seed of the National League. They have elite
advanced scouting, self scouting data, minor leagues, pitching, development, coaching,

(21:51):
all of it so that they can maximize the talent
that they've had. And you know, for the Reds to
go into a game on the road with their ace
on the mound and for him to be tipping pitches,
that tells me that your self scouting is not good enough.
Your advanced scouting is not good enough. You just you're
playing behind the eight ball.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
You can't.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
It's hard enough to beat the Dodgers without them knowing
what's coming. Yeah, and you know that sort of stuff.
You've got to be more buttoned up. And that set
the tone for the series. Yep, let's set the tone
now for the rest of the day. We will get
to your phone calls again here at the end of
the first hour. That that's important. I want to make
sure we get calls in today. Well, we've got a

(22:34):
really cool opportunity to talk to one of the biggest
names right now, and not just Cincinnati, but a name
that's sweeping college football. The quarterback of the Bearcats, Brendan Sorosby,
will join us next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
thanks to Skyline Chili. This is what it sounds like.

Speaker 11 (22:51):
This is Football in the Natti, brought to you by
Hey During Window Company on ESPN fifteen thirty. So Hermat
Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
Welcome back.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
It is Football in the NATI on the Home of
the Bengals, ESBN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, Thanks again
to our friends at Skyline Chile, where anytime you're feeling
good and hungry at skyline time. Let's talk about Austin
right now, the highest rated quarterback as it relates to
QBR in the country, offering one of the best offenses

(23:25):
in the country, coming off a win against a very
good Kansas team in a hostile environment, and now returning
to Knippert Stadium against the fourteenth ranked Iowa State Cyclones.
Brendan Soresby is joining us right now. Brendan, what's going on, man?

Speaker 1 (23:39):
What's going on? Thanks for having me absolutely.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
How you doing, man? How's the week going? You come
off a big win against Kansas, you know better than anyone.
You get to enjoy it for a few minutes and
then you're on to Iowa State. What's the last couple
of days been like?

Speaker 1 (23:54):
A lot of recovery. Body was a little banged up
right after the game. You know, traveling after a win
is definitely a lot better. So that was a fun experience.

Speaker 12 (24:04):
And then you know, once we got back, just making
sure we got our bodies right ready to go for
our Tuesday practice.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
So the preparation has been good.

Speaker 12 (24:12):
Everybody focused, everybody blocked in and ready to go on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
How big of a weight, does it lift off the shoulders,
because you guys have been very competitive and there have
been times where it's just come up a player too
short to get the ball back laid against Kansas to
play as efficiently as you guys did offensively, you didn't
have Joe Royer in the second half defensively, no Dante
Corleone in the game to get that ball back, go

(24:36):
down and finish that off. How much momentum does that
now build for a team?

Speaker 12 (24:41):
Well, I know, just like you know the fans have
gone through it with the on score ball game is
not going our way, I trust me. You know as
a player that whenever you're on the losing side of those,
you start to lose confidence. And you know we were
finally on the right side of one of those and
came out victorious. So you know, being able to carry
that momentum going for will be for us.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Knowing that we can do it, knowing that we.

Speaker 12 (25:02):
Can win those close games and go close it out,
you know, and just playing playing a complimentary football on
all three phases. You know, that was a really good
offensive team over there in Kansas, and you know, we
knew that they were going to be able to score
points just you know they do they do on everybody.
So you know, our defense bailed us out whenever they
needed to, and you know, we were able to.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Put some drives together and put points on the board,
and at the end of the day, we won.

Speaker 12 (25:25):
So we got to find a way to carry this
into this week right here and find a way to
go bet a competitive team, and IOWA stayed really good
coach team and you know, obviously top fifteen team in
the country.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
I thought about two thousand and nine a game that
I played against Pittsburgh. We're down, we get the ball late,
and before taking the field, nothing was ever really said,
but you could just tell and looking in the guy's
eyes there was a confidence that you were going to
go down and win the game. You guys got the
ball back down thirty four to thirty with a minute
forty five left. You go on a ten play drive.

(25:56):
Take me to the sideline. Before the drive started, Was
there anything that needed to be said or did you
guys kind of know what was ahead of end what
needed to be done.

Speaker 12 (26:04):
You know, everybody understood what needed to be done. Obviously,
you know, we're dapping each other up saying, you know,
we we got this.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
We know what we're gonna do. We know we're gonna
go put it in the end zone.

Speaker 8 (26:14):
And you know that was that I.

Speaker 12 (26:15):
Don't think I don't ever think there was too much
you know, disbelief from anybody on that sideline.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
I think everybody understood.

Speaker 12 (26:21):
That we were going to do.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Whatever it took to put it in the end zone.
And everybody knows how hard it.

Speaker 12 (26:26):
Is to go do that, especially when the defense knows
you have to score a touchdown. And we still had
some adverse situations that drive you know, obviously the illegal
touching and you know, just just a couple of other
things that went against us, but you know, we found
a way to persevere and.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Go punch it in the end zone. And I think
that's just a testament to this group of guys that
we have.

Speaker 12 (26:46):
You know, everybody's got a common belief in the in
a common goal that we want to go. We want
to go win some ball games this year, and we
knew what it was going to take, and we did it.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
I want to get to your your offensive line in
just a moment, but talk about the receiving corps. I
know Joe Royer didn't in the second half, but he
had a huge third and long grab for twenty yards
that kept the drive alive. We've seen Jeff Codwell, Noah
Jennings with the one handed catch, Gavin Grover almost getting
to the end zone getting stopped a few inches short,
Caleb Goodie, Cyrus Allen with the career day. How fun

(27:16):
is it now that you've got these guys in the system,
you can see their confidence growing. How fun is it
to be able to spread the ball around to your
receiving core.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, it's a blast. You know, it makes my life easy.
It makes my job, you.

Speaker 12 (27:28):
Know, fun for sure, to just be able to go
out there and say, hey, you know, let these guys
will make plays and you know they make me look
a lot better than I am. So just finding a
way to get these guys the ball, and like you said,
Grover stepping up whenever.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Joe went down.

Speaker 12 (27:42):
After Joe made an amazing catch on third down. You know,
we'll be able to get Joe back this week. And
I believe he's the best tide end of the country,
So that's huge for us. So, you know, just the
ability of guys to step up whenever we need them
to and just make plays is huge for us.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
And having confidence and you know, eight guys.

Speaker 12 (28:01):
To go out there and catch a pass for you
is huge for sure. So we're really excited about this
group of guys that we have, you know, out wide
for us and you know, a tight end especially so.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
We've been saying it.

Speaker 12 (28:11):
For a long time, but people think I always give
the quarterback answer. I was telling the media on Tuesday
that you know, I believe in all of our guys,
but I truly do, and you know, I'm willing to
throw to whoever because at.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
The end of the day, I know they're gonna make
a play for me.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
I look at your guys backfield, and whether it's Tyler
Walker or Evan Pryor, I just can't imagine a defense
having to negotiate who's getting the ball, because, make no
mistake about it, Walker doesn't want to run around you.
He wants to run through you. That's demoralizing for a
corner or a secondary player coming up to make a
tackle and then all of a sudden, Evan Pryor's got

(28:44):
the ability to bounce one or to make you miss
and then take one the distance you've got the ability
to run. How much does it put on a defense though,
when you've got that that tower and the speed that
can hit in the backfield on any given day, yeah,
I mean, it.

Speaker 12 (28:59):
Puts a ton of stress on you and especially you know,
like you said, I am able to move a little bit,
which makes it harder on the defense back to account
for me. And then it gives our guys, you know,
one less body to have to worry about, hopefully if
I can take somebody away in the run game, and
you know, our guys do a really good job and
one on one situations and making people miss, running through.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
People, whatever that may be.

Speaker 12 (29:18):
So just I think, I think, especially in our backfload
right now, we have a ton of different different threats
and stuff that we present. Like you just said, tell
we's a little bit more power back, but he can
shake you.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Evans more of a home run hitter.

Speaker 12 (29:32):
And then I don't even know what you want to
call me, but I can run a little bit.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
So that definitely helped now.

Speaker 12 (29:39):
And then just the past game obviously being explosive right
now is helping the run.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Game as well. So if we can keep that going,
I think we're going to be a really tough offense
to stop.

Speaker 12 (29:46):
It's just up to us to continue to execute and
make sure that we're we're on our p's and q's.

Speaker 6 (29:52):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
The first giving up of the season happened against Kansas.
I thought it was just the right play call at
the right time for Kansas. They brought a pressure and
you guys were running. A little play action makes it
a little bit tougher to block. But uh, the offensive
line up front. You look at your running numbers, you
look at the passing game numbers, you look at your
ability to stay clean at times in the pocket. How
how important is that group up front, Ben.

Speaker 12 (30:15):
I mean, they've been They've been a huge help for
us this year, especially you know in the past came in.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
The wrong game.

Speaker 12 (30:21):
You know, they've been doing a really good job of
blocking for the run and then they've been doing an
excellent job of walking and protecting.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
For the past. That one sack is is very unfortunate because,
like you.

Speaker 12 (30:32):
Know, on a little boot leg like that, the old
line really doesn't have anything.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
To do with it. So that was unfortunate.

Speaker 12 (30:38):
I was I was trying to do everything I could
to throw it away on you know, avoid that sack,
especially for the big guy's sake. But you know, they're
playing really well up front, and gouldn't be happier for
that group. I love that group of guys, and you know,
I hope they continue to love me and protect me
throughout the rest of the season. I'm gonna try to
take care of them as much as possible because they're
putting their bodies in the line.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Every player.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Well, as long as you keep getting to these steak dinners,
I think they're gonna they're going to take care of
You said earlier in the week that after wins, you're
taking the offensive lineman to Jeff Ruby's.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Is that right?

Speaker 1 (31:06):
I take them there. I try to take them there
after every win. You know, obviously Jeff Ruby's.

Speaker 12 (31:11):
Is a very top spot in Cincinnati, so it's kind
of tough to get reservations, but they usually look us up.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
So are you were talking just the starting five linemen
or any lineman that plays in the game. How how
do you decide who gets to go?

Speaker 12 (31:26):
Usually it's it's any lineman that plays in the game.
So after no after Northwestern Day, we had to make
some adjustments.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
We had boys. I don't know, I don't know about
this one.

Speaker 12 (31:35):
But no, it was, Uh, it's usually any lineman that
plays in the game, and you know, we try to
make sure that they're taken care of because they're doing
a heck of a job up for sure.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
They're pushing for those those heavy linemen sets. Then they
want to they want to get six to seven linemen
in the game.

Speaker 12 (31:50):
Yeah, No, they're they're trying. They're trying to coach. Carbo
keeps trying to throw other guys in there.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
I'm like, hey, we don't. We don't need to keep
doing this throwing them.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
God, So before I let you go, the way you've
adapted to Scott's sadderfield system, I know that's a big
part of what you guys are able to do. Tell
me a little bit about Iowa State and some of
the challenges that they do possess on the defensive side
of the ball for Saturday.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, they're really talented and they play really hard.

Speaker 12 (32:19):
So you know, we got to be we got to
be able to exec you for sure, and just make
sure that our attention to detail is really sharp, because
you know, these guys are are obviously top fifteen for
a reason, So you know, we got to go out
there and do what we do. We got to make
sure we're disciplined, and like you said, my second year
in the system, I feel a lot more confident. I

(32:41):
feel like coach Sadderfield's a lot more confident me and
this group. So, you know, we just got to find
a way to keep keep the chains moving and find
a way to put points on the board.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
You know, luckily, we're able to go.

Speaker 12 (32:50):
Against this type of defense every day in practice, So
we just got to go out there and do what
we do and I think will be good from.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Having the chance to play at UC and watching what
you're able to do right now, there's a great sense
of pride I take in watching how you guys are operating,
how you're going about your business. Good luck again this Saturday.
Keep this thing rolling. I know the city is electric.
Everyone I talk to right now is talking about U
see Bearcat football. Enjoy that moment, and we can't thank
you enough for the time today.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Yes, sir, I appreciate you having me.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Yes, sir, that is Brendan Soaresby, the quarterback of the
Cincinnati Bearcats, nice enough to join us here on game
week Austin. I am every time I get the chance
to talk to him, I'm blown away on how.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
Mature he sounds.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Yeah, you would think that's a fifth year senior winding
down his college career. He's still young when it comes
to his time on the field. But I want to
see how I can get maybe on the the call
for those Rubies dinners.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
Well, they're going to ask you to pay. No, No,
you're the Hall of Famer.

Speaker 5 (33:50):
No, no, I'm not in that. Nil, i'l world.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
It would be on you to pay. As the Hall
of Famer. I'll work on the reservation. Oh, if I
can get the seat at the table. You have to
pay for yourself though, is that all right?

Speaker 5 (34:03):
Well, whatever we'll talk about.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
I mean, if I'm a tight end, I'm like, hey,
I'm essentially alignment here, right, Yeah, I'm an extension here.
Look at that block I had. But man, he is
mature beyond his years, and he's got that offense playing
at a really really high level. Big opportunity Saturday at
Knippert Stadium for the Bearcats taking on Iowa State, a
noon kick. This is since he three to sixty. The

(34:27):
eight year anniversary show. Yeah, we'll wind down our number
one with some more on the Reds and another phone
call or too on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
Thanks to Skyline Chili.

Speaker 11 (34:39):
You've been listening to Football in the NATI on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 5 (34:50):
Done in the Inn.

Speaker 13 (34:51):
Now getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
How could we talk about the eighth anniversary of Sincey
three to sixty without our good friend Jeff Henry and
Angel Ridge on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Eight
years of waiting for album number two to draw eight years,
I have a feeling it's not coming. Shut out to

(35:24):
Jeff Henry Sincy three sixty. We'll get back to some
Reds in just a few moments. John Shearon is coming
up from it his e Sports at one o'clock to
talk Bengals. You want to talk about a way to
celebrate eight years. Let's talk red season ending in the
Bengals current state of affairs right now? You see goodness
for Brendan Soresby.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Today and maybe joy or hope. I just started to
say hope and enjoy at the same time and said.

Speaker 5 (35:48):
Hoy lead us, John. Take a couple of phone calls.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
John was suffering with the rest of us through that
Red game last night. Poor guy, I know it.

Speaker 5 (35:57):
Mark, what's happening, man?

Speaker 8 (36:00):
Yeah, I just called in to talk about that game
last night. I thought he left. I thought he left
that picture in in and too long. I thought I
would never say this about him, but the way he
managed that that pitching staff, going all the way back
to the Milwaukee series where you you didn't see Abbot

(36:24):
in game one or two, because I think it's Green
and Abbot, not Green and Lodolo. I think the dolo
is the third picture that you would have counted on.
And that lineup I thought. I didn't think he set
that lineup up right last night. I would have had
steered back in the middle of that lineup somewhere that

(36:46):
basis loaded situation that came up, you know, instead of
bringing Andrew har off the bench, I probably would have
either started him or Benson yep, and I would have
had that south a guy at third base. Man. Forget
about Hayes and his defense. You needed, you need to

(37:07):
score all the runs you could. I just I mean,
I complained about managers and coaches a lot, as you
can see, but last night was an example of it.
I don't think he even with that game was three
to two. I still thought they had a chance if
they brought in if they brought in one of those
other one of those other guys, if you if you

(37:29):
could have kept it that three to two, I thought
they had a chance.

Speaker 4 (37:33):
I mean, when the bases were loaded and nobody was out,
you had three four and five Hayes, Stewart, dal La
Cruz coming up like you can't ask for anything more
than that.

Speaker 8 (37:43):
Yeah, that was a great situation. But all Austin Hayes
does is with men on base, he tries to pull everything,
so you know he's gonna ground out the third or
short and then Stewart h I mean, you know, he
swung out a couple of bad pitches and then Ellie.

(38:05):
I would have never had Ellie Batten in that spot.
I would have had him that in second. And you know,
I would have wanted to see Steer in one of
them spots, or the Andrew Hard guy and one of
them spots, you know, in that situation, but that he
didn't set the lineup up that way. So the guys
that were hitting in that spot had to get the

(38:26):
job done and they and they just didn't. But I
just looked at the season as there were some good
things to take away. I think they found a leadoff hitter,
you know, and they were consistent about Batton freedom leadoff,
and I thought that was a good thing. I think
Pegan did a good job as a closer, being that

(38:49):
you coming into the season, he wasn't expected to be
the closer, and I think for the most part he
did a good job, except for when he had to
face the other team's middle of the lineup. Uh. So
that there was some uh those were a couple of
good things over the season that kind of stood after me.

(39:09):
But you know, what they really needed was a you know,
a bad in the middle of the lineup that the
organization still don't believe they need. So uh. I just overall,
I just thought they just had an average season. I mean,
eighty wins didn't used to get you in the playoffs, right,
I mean so, and then the Mets kind of collapsed.

(39:32):
So so that's I mean, that's all I could really
say about the season. But I'll take Frank Coner as
a manager over David Bell any day of the week.
But there was some there was some times where I
kind of questioned some of his decisions. But you know,
gotta see what see what happens next year. So to

(39:55):
the rest of the show.

Speaker 5 (39:56):
Thank you, Mark, I appreciate that. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
Also, I didn't expect to be questioning as much from
Francona going into the year as I ended up doing
throughout the year.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
I think the thing about Francona is he marries gut
with analytics. If you remember when he was brought to Boston,
the idea around hiring him was he embraced analytics more,
and I think over the course of his career he's

(40:27):
done a really good job of balancing his gut and
the analytics. He also has had some really really good
players in Cleveland and in Boston, especially pitchers Kurt Shilling,
Pedro Martinez, Shane Bieber, Corey Klueber, and then other guys

(40:49):
like Big Poppy Manny Jose Ramirez, like great, great players.
And when you don't have as much talent, and the
Reds don't have as much talent as those Cleveland and
Boston teams that he had, I think you have to
be a little bit more leaning on the analytics.

Speaker 3 (41:10):
Yeah, I mean, I there was a point yesterday Austin
that I was even thinking to myself, I know, he's
not been great late. Marte was a catalyst down the
stretch for this team, and he didn't start last night.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Instead it was Austin Hayes who just got back from
being banged up and wasn't available for you a couple
of days ago. Yeah, Marte's not in the lineup. It
just it felt like a lot of moving pieces.

Speaker 5 (41:31):
But yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
The the decision to run lttel back out in the
fourth and not come back with Lodolo in the six,
to me is uh is unfathomable. Josh is calling him,
what's up, Josh Tony?

Speaker 4 (41:46):
How are you good?

Speaker 5 (41:46):
How are you good?

Speaker 6 (41:48):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (41:49):
Recent recent finder of the show. Loved the show.

Speaker 6 (41:52):
Congress in eight years.

Speaker 7 (41:54):
Hey, Austin, did you used to do a wrestling show
with Taren.

Speaker 4 (41:58):
No Rick.

Speaker 7 (42:01):
Hugino?

Speaker 6 (42:03):
Yeah, okay, well we need.

Speaker 7 (42:04):
To bring that dagg On thing back. No, but you
got your guys shows great. You guys have me saying
Mo who Aaron Rodgers might be looking for Mo, but
I'm not. I'm just kidding. I love that guy. Hey, listen, Uh,
I just want to talk about off season checkflist for
the Reds. I mean that the season is what it is.

(42:26):
You've got to feel like we're really close with the
young guys.

Speaker 6 (42:28):
We have.

Speaker 7 (42:31):
Obviously, you know number number one priorities to try to
get forward to come to town. Sure, some power baths,
maybe one more bullpen arm.

Speaker 5 (42:42):
You can never have enough arms.

Speaker 7 (42:45):
No, yeah, no never. I'm trying to get some some
of those value signings. I think one of you was
talking about that the other day. Just a veteran bat
that can come in, you know, and you know, in
a pin hit situauation, you know, somebody maybe on the
later half of their career, you know, because you don't
have to do it within the budget constraints of this team.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
But I say that's the typical move that they would make. Yep,
it's kind of where they are right now. Like an
Andrew Horr or an Austin Hayes. That's the type of
guy they would get.

Speaker 7 (43:16):
Are they going to be able to resign Andrew Harr?

Speaker 6 (43:19):
Do we know?

Speaker 4 (43:19):
I would say I would think they'll try to re
sign both of them. I'm assuming they'll just try to
run it back with the same group.

Speaker 7 (43:26):
Absolutely, absolutely, And as far as the Pengles go, that
this thing's over, you're not going to get the front
office to go get a quarterback, and it just looks
like at this point they're playing for a for a
good draft pick. My fear is I would like to
coaching staff to go, but my fear is he's going
to get a pass because Burrow got injured.

Speaker 5 (43:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:49):
I think that's the one thing that that could potentially
save him. Josh, thank you for the call. We'll talk
about this morning. It's the one thing that I think
potentially could save him. But if they play in the
way they have over the next couple of games, Austin,
they have the next two, I don't think you can wait.
I don't think you can get through the season with
thirteen more games to go. I agree, Dan, real quick
before we get to John, what's up.

Speaker 14 (44:09):
Hey, Tony, thanks for the call, first time caller. Thank you,
and I wanted to let you Mo and Austin know
that you're my favorite sports talk show of all of
them during the day.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
Well, thank you, Thanks Dan.

Speaker 14 (44:25):
Let's really really enjoy enjoy the subject and the way
you guys approach everything. Hey, I was calling in regards
to some positive news regarding the Bengals. Okay, I was
looking at PFF's top draft picks, possibly for next year,
twenty four out of the top forty people are on

(44:51):
both offense and defensive lines. You think we could use any.

Speaker 9 (44:55):
Of those people?

Speaker 4 (44:56):
All right? Now? We're talking, Dan, upgrade the trenches, is
what you're saying, both.

Speaker 6 (45:01):
Sides out.

Speaker 14 (45:05):
And and I'm hoping we do. But the way things
go sometimes they teem to seem to depend on free
agents more than the draft picks. But then again, my
thought is, you know, when a team's going bad, real bad,
who's the first person they go after? Head coach? And

(45:29):
I'm not sure if that's going to happen at all
because of what the gentleman said that he may get
a pass because of Joe's injury, But I don't think
that's a valid excuse. I think if they head down
the road like they're going now, you need to change
that culture right now, and you need to change the
culture starting with the head coach going right into that clubhouse.

(45:53):
But the one thing that bothers the heck out of
me out of all the talk about out head coach players, whatever,
we haven't heard one word from Duke Tobin.

Speaker 3 (46:05):
Yep, Austin hit on that yesterday. That to me, Dan,
thank you so much for the phone call. We appreciate
we're up against the hour. Yeah, the Duke Tobin silence
is huge here, Austin, does the Joe Burrow injury give
Zach a free pass in your mind? Not what we think,
what the organization thinks. No, I don't think so either.
There's losing and being competitive, and there's losing like they

(46:28):
have the last two weeks. And when you lose like that, normally,
that's a sign that something needs to happen. From a
locker room point of view. John sheeron a is E
