Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome back. We're rolling along our number three thanks to
Penn Station on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Uh,
appreciate you listening in. Let's take this to our guy,
Bob man Jean from the University of Cincinnati and Nova
Care joining us each and every week as he does
right now.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Bob, how are you Tony having another great data on
here in Derrik Catland, you know, getting ready for basketball
practice and you know in two weeks we scrimmaged Michigan
up in ann Arbor, so it's exciting times on campus.
Plus we're playing Iowa State on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
My big question for you, Bob, and you know, I
know we're going to get to an injury point of
view here, but eight years ago today the inception of
Sincy three to sixty happened. It is our anniversary of
Sincy three sixty today. I just wanted to know from you,
how has Cincy three to sixty changed your life? Great question.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
It's an unbelievable show. I have fun on it. I
get to listen to it when I'm in the car.
Some of your features, obviously I can't say your gambling
feature or your Picks of the week is my favorite,
only because I'm not allowed to participate. But some of
the callback responses that your people give are interesting. And
(01:40):
one of these days I'm going to leave a callback
and say something stupid like some of the other people do.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Well, thank you for that, Bob. What I want to
ask you is you kind of just alluded to it.
People are so entrenched in football season that's happening right now,
that you kind of get caught sometimes with how close
the basketball season is. And for some athletes that's the
case when you start talking about club sports or AAU
while they're alsco also playing for their high school team.
(02:07):
When you start talking about playing multiple sports, that maybe
cross over at once. Where is the line drawn? Because
there are so many people that say play as many
sports as you can because it's good for you, there's
also that line that we've talked about of making sure
you allow your body to rest. How do you walk
that line when you are trying to do two different
things and juggle at once.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
That's a great question only because, as he said, you know,
we're preaching now to parents and athletes alike that this
whole concept of specialization too early in their sports careers
is not good. These kids should be playing multiple sports.
You know, basketball players should be you know, participating in baseball,
(02:51):
and baseball should be participating in you know, track and field,
et cetera.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
And again, I.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Think the whole concept of having these athletes some specialized
too early, and to me, the two biggest groups that
really abuse this are basketball and baseball. I think too
many parents you know, want to just put their kids
in one sport. And part of it is, you know,
(03:19):
it's easy, you know, I only have to deal with
one sport rather than trying to get my kids around
the gymnastics or swim and dive or soccer. But the
problem becomes you have to have a fine line. I
can let my kids play you know, summer soccer, and
then come back and let them play football in the fall,
and then come back and let them play you know,
(03:42):
basketball in the in the spring or whatever, baseball in
the spring.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I think, if.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
You you need to let the kids play multiple sports,
but at the same time, it goes the other way.
I had a kid in the other day who's playing
you know, soccer this time of year. She's playing volleyball
at the same time, and you know then she's going
to go right back into basketball. Now you're talking overload.
(04:08):
You're talking about a a fourteen fifteen year old kid
who's trying to play three sports that all overlap for
about a month. And that's not good for your body either.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
You know.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
It's like most high school kids, if they play football,
I have to take off a five day six day
period after football before they're allowed to play basketball. Or
if you're playing basketball in high school, you generally have
to have a four or five rest day period before
you're allowed to play baseball or you know, go on to.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Track and field.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
So but there are some sports that are naturally i'll
say aligned. So if I'm got a football player and
they're a skilled football player, my old role at Comedy
Catholic would be, well, let's run track and.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Field in the spring.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Or if it were a kid who is an offensive
defensive lineman, maybe throw shot or even wrestled in the offseason. Quarterbacks,
you know, let's go pitch in the spring, so that
there's a natural evolution of, you know, the sports that
actually align with each other. And I think that's the
whole premise of letting a kid play multiple sports. But
(05:19):
if you get a six seven eight year old and
you say, Okay, we're gonna play basketball, then we're gonna
play summer AAU. Then we're gonna play elementary school, then
we're going to play high school, and we're basketball basketball, basketball.
I don't recruit a kid today, well I don't do
the recruiting, but I'm suck with him. I get players
today that have come to us in college and they've
already had three four injuries before they even get here,
(05:42):
and most of them occur during AAU in the summer,
more so than any other time of year. So I
think you have that fine line where I want my
kids to play multiple sports. And my kids played soccer,
they've tried swimming, they all played either hockey or football,
so that you know, they did a variety of things,
(06:03):
and then by the time they got to be a
freshman in high school. You know, I would then say, okay,
let's focus on one or two and one played hockey
and one played baseball, and the other ones played football
and maybe did a little track or wrestling activity. So
we have to sub We've got to let them have
some freedom to play with that getting too sub specialized
(06:26):
too early.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
How important then if they are having that freedom to
play multiple sports and you're active and you're always on
the go, go go, How important do the things that
maybe young kids are overlooking, sleep, recovery, stretching, How important
do those things become to the athlete, and how important
it is for the parents or the guardians to be
able to look out for that and push that to
(06:47):
the kids as well.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Well.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Number One, recovery is way underperformed in this country. Recovery
is just not done enough by the athletes, push enough,
or you know, in most cases, you know, unless you
played at the collegiate level or played at the professional level.
You know, how does the average parent know about recovery?
(07:12):
You know, And the bottom line is like you know,
using maybe contrast or you know, getting in the cold
tubs after they play, or this country's horrible when it
comes to stretching. I would say, if you look at football,
you look at college basketball, eighty percent of the players
have no clue even at that level coming out of
(07:34):
high schooler A and you how to stretch. They're all tight.
They don't spend enough time working their mobility. Mobility starts
at ain't nine ten years old. Strengths training starts at
ain't nine ten years old. And when I mean strength training,
I'm not talking about getting them in the wink room
and weight around, but simple things that like bandit programming
(07:59):
or working with somebody who might be a certified strength
coach who can get them into both mobility and strength
training and landing mechanics. People say to me all the time,
well one of these little girls fourteen fifteen, sixteen years
old have so many injuries. Well think about it. Let's
say I sub specialized. I want to be a soccer
(08:20):
player or a lacrosse player. I play you know summer
AAU programming, your own DP Olympic development programming. Then I
go right into high school. Then I come out and
play right in the indoor, then I go right back
to spring outdoor. When are you taking off? I mean
you played football right, you know, as soon as the
season over, where was your butt? Your butt was in
(08:42):
the weight room for the next three months, four months,
and then when we had off in the summer, where
where were you were in the weight room? These we
got high school girls that come into PLoud On campus
who came to pick up a forty five pound bar
because they've never been told to lift before. So, you know,
the bottom line is until we teach these kids' mobility
(09:04):
how to move, do some strengths training with and the
injury rate is not changing. You look at the little
kids with owner collateral ligament injuries in the elbow from throwing.
They've thrown too much. Okay, here's a newsflash. You're overloading.
You're too young of an age. You can't load that
much that fast. And so you know, the parents have
(09:28):
to protect their The whole idea of being a parent
is to protect your kid. The whole idea of a
parent isn't to make your kid the next.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Nolan Ryan, you know.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
And the bottom line is these parents have dollar bills
in their eyes because they think my kid's going to
sign the next nil contract, or they're going to get
the next scholarship. You want them to get the scholarship,
or you want them to get the nil money, you
better make sure they stay healthy. And to stay healthy
means forget always worrying about what's worth they're playing. You
need to get them into with somebody who really knows
(09:58):
how to lift, who really knows how to work on mobility,
and get them in better shape and that reduces the
raising risk. Otherwise by the time we get him in college. Heck,
are females in college can't even take a bar up
off the ground because they've never been in a weight room.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Obviously something that needs to be taken into accountability. Bob,
as always, thank you so much for your time. Enjoy
the week. College basketball right around the corner a huge
game in Niffert Stadium on Saturday. As always, we appreciate
your time.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Are you in the box on Saturday?
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Are you on the side? Back on the sideline, Baby,
back on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
I'll see on the sideline Tony out of work.
Speaker 2 (10:38):

(11:01):
three since he three to sixty thanks to Penn Station
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Now your chance to it.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Cincy three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Welcome back. It's Sincy three sixty ESBN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station. We obviously covered Reds, We cover the Bengals,
we cover FC Cincinnati, We cover the Cincinnati Bearcats and
Xavier Musketeers. Let's set some time aside here on a
Thursday afternoon to talk some high school football. And who
better to talk some high school football with than the
man behind the skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. It is one
(11:39):
Tom Gamble joining us. Now, Tom, what's up?
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Well, Tony, I'm talking to high school royalty here though.
Right Oh night out there at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Huh,
you're going to give a pregame speech. You're the Honorary Captain. Right,
it's a big night. You're ready.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
It's a big night at the at the VET Veterans
Memorial State, And it's becoming even bigger because you guys
are gonna be in the building as well. The Skyline,
Chili Crossdown, Showdown rolls through reading the tailor. Yes, I'm
excited reading coming off. They got their first win, they
got the monkey off their back last week, so I'm
interested to see how they follow that up because the
(12:18):
week before they played Madeira really well. They did, they
went for two, but they played them really well. So
I want to see what these guys have on Friday night.
I'm looking forward to it, and obviously it has the
big game feel because you guys are gonna be in
attendance as well.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Yeah, you know, we picked these games before the year
and kind of you know, we started off in Southeast
Indiana with East Central Larneburg. Then we went to Northern
Kentucky Highlands Cooper, then the opening of Baden's on campus stadium.
Then I mean Princeton, Lakota West Anderson, King's, Elder Saint
X and you got to give some love to the
small schools in the Cincinnati Hills League, a very good league.
So we got back to back weeks this week Reading
(12:54):
hosting Taylor and then Indian Hill at Madeira, which is
a great rival game. And Indian Hill appears to be
the uh cream of the crop in the cochl is
your Wyoming's always there. But if Madeira somehow Friday night
were to beat Wyoming, it'd be you know, undefeated against undefeated.
It no, you know, we try to spread the love.
There's a lot of good high school football, and we've
(13:15):
had some great games, and there are some great teams,
and you know we're not naive. I mean Moeler at Elder,
I mean it's for the GCL South, but that should
be a great game. But now it'll be.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
A lot of fun. The people at ready.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
We did a PEP rally at the Reading Skyline Chili Tuesday,
and I did one last night for Taylor and they're excited.
They're excited to be a part of this and it's
it'll be fun. I got to ask you when when
you get in there, will it bring back will bring
back memories? Well, yeah, what will be the theme of
your speech? Do you know yet?
Speaker 2 (13:42):
I don't know yet. I know readin is so deeply
rooted with the blue collar mentality and just the hard
work that it takes to get everything done and to
tie that in. I had a chance, you know, it's
cool for me. I had a chance last year to
take my oldest son down to a game, and you know,
he sat there and enjoyed it all. And it is.
It's one thing. And the atmosphere at the pit tomorrow night,
(14:03):
with with Molar going into Elder that's a top ten
atmosphere that you can ever find, probably across the nation
at times. But there is something to be said about
small town high school football and how the whole community
gets together and comes out and it just makes it
very special. And I look forward to the most of
that when I get a chance to get back to
Redding for sure.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Well it's funny you say that, because, to be honest,
you know, one thing about Redding is prideful, you know
what I mean. I mean, there's a lot of pride.
And it's very interesting because we do about fifteen pep
rallies a year at Neighborhood Skyline, Chile's. We've been doing
them for fifteen years, and man, you can tell the
communities that no matter what support their high school. And
(14:43):
you're right, Redding's won out in Cleeves. It's tailor. I mean,
it's the same thing. But you're right about the Molar
Elder and I wonder how many people realize this about
that game too. Molar has won eleven straight GCL South games,
which is incredible. So if they win at Elder tomorrow,
they'll have won four straight league titles without a loss.
(15:05):
Think of that. But think about this. Elder has not
won the GCL South outright. This is stunning to me
because they've got a great program. Doug Ramsey's an outstanding
coach since two thousand and eight. Think about that.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Insane.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
I mean, they share it with Saint X a few
years back, and then you got to go back. This
is the best start for Elder six and oh since
two thousand and three. I mean, and Molar's really good.
But I'll tell you what Elder that came east that
their quarterback is outstanding running the football, passing the football.
And you know, they maybe don't jump off the page
at you with a ton of like you know, blue Chippers.
(15:41):
They just know how to play. If Doug does a
great job and keeps it, keeps it within the confines
of what they can do, and I think that's got
the potential to be a hell of a game at
the pit.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
You know. I've been watching a lot of high school
and Elder got a huge win at Saint X last week. Uh,
tough back to back, and I think st X has
to go to her host Trinity now, which is not
any thing for them. But there's a team that I
feel like isn't getting talked about enough. But you mentioned Princeton.
They beat Lakota West this year. Early in that game
against Molar, they were having their way with Moler and
(16:12):
they were roller kind of found their footing a little bit.
But how how valid it is Princeton from what you've
seen and the type of noise they can make.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
I think they're pretty good. I mean, Andre Parker's done
an outstanding job there and they've been in GMC contention.
I think they're gonna win it. I don't see them
losing a GMC game. And you are correct and the
other one and people talk about them, but the other
one is so dominant. I think if you were to
ask me, I think a lot of people would say, well,
Moler talent wise, and they got Matt Ponatowski obviously the
(16:44):
reigning Ohio mister football. They made it to the state
final last year. But I can't see anybody stopping Anderson,
I mean, at least getting back there. I mean they
are absurd. I mean from week one, Cooper was down
eight to three. At halftime, well fifty two to ten.
I mean, they just the pace and the tempo, and
they've got so many They're so talented on both sides
(17:06):
of the ball, and they got studs.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
I mean, so I.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Think Anderson Princeton, Anderson plays Turpin, which Turpin's having a
good year. I mean they're four and one in the league,
so was Kings. I mean King's only loss is to Anderson,
and it was close early and then Anderson just doesn't stop.
I mean they're really really good too. I think Princeton's good,
Moler's good, x Still has a really good defense, Elder's good.
(17:30):
I mean, there are a lot of teams, but I
think the team the two maybe unless Elder really shocks
me Friday night. And again, I think they're really really good.
I think Moler might be a little bit better, but
I think it's Moller at D one and I think
it's Anderson at D two.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
How many years now? Is this for the showdown.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Twenty eight to long time my friend? Which means a
couple of things, one of them old. Yes, but it's
but you know, what it really means is is just
the interest in high school football. It's still there. I
mean it's it's still there and people love it. And
it's again. I know, there's all the focus on the Elders,
the Bowlers, the Saint Axe's, the Lakota West, the Princeton
and Anders, but it's the small schools like how about
(18:11):
North College Hill they're six and oh how about the
running back Lance Cancreel at Talawanda, who's among the nation's
top rush. He's got fifteen hundred.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Plus yard Dominic.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
I know, yes, a great job as coach, are right,
Dominic is there. He's been with Andy and that kids
run for over four hundred against Taylor week one he
won over three hundred another week twice he's been over
two hundred. I mean it's and he didn't even play
last year. I mean it's it's but it's that kind
of stuff to me. And I mentioned you know nch
being six and oh, there are always you can always
(18:45):
find the good stories in high school football. To me,
that's what makes it so interesting.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
And you always just feel that it does it. It
feels like, you know, at the college level, college game
day rolls into town. When you guys roll into town,
it just makes that game and that week feel bigger.
You guys do it throughout the week. It's not just
showing up on Friday night and doing it. For those interested,
whether it's Tomorrow night reading Taylor or whatever the schedule
is going forward, how can they find out more information
(19:11):
with everything he got going on?
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Yeah, we do it on social It's at Xtown Showdown
on x and Instagram, and we'll have score updates. We'll
have video Mark Slaughter who's a great videographer. We brought
him onto the team last year and he provides video
for Fox nineteen and Joe and Jeremy do a great
job with the final quarter with the Showdown game each
week and it's at Xtown Showdown and we'll have anything
(19:34):
and everything, interviews leading up to it during the week,
and coverage the night in the game, and of course
some exclusive video from your pregames.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Let's go Tom. The Showdown is unbelievable and keeps getting better.
So appreciate everything you're doing for high school sports, and
certainly appreciate you taking some time for us today and
for making the trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Absolutely one of only two grass deal still, that's right.
I know what the other one is. Uh huh, North
College Hill.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
We might water that baby down tomorrow night. Let's muck
it up a little bit for the Blue Devils and
the Yellow Jackets.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Well, you better get the sprinklers out, brother, because they
go a ring. It's all good. I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
I appreciate Tom. We'll see you tomorrow night. Thank you.
That is Tom Gamble from the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.
We'll keep moving along. Next the SBN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station looking.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
For a financial party in fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Welcome back since he three p sixty thanks to Penn Station.
By the way, Penn Station changing the game. As we
get into uh October, here, Austin, did you see this
you like to you like the cheese stake, the Philly
cheese steak. Yeah, you've seen what they're doing in October.
What they're doing Ghost Pepper, Philly chies. Stay really had
(21:00):
a little spice and a little ghost. Now that's spicy
bull right up my alley. Hauntingly good the ghost pepper
cheese stick. Thanks to our friends at Penn Station. Thank
you for listening. Thank our guy Jeff for holding to
talk to us today. What she's able to do?
Speaker 6 (21:15):
Now?
Speaker 2 (21:15):
What's up, Jeff?
Speaker 5 (21:18):
A happy anniversary boy?
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Thank you? Thanks Jeff.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Absolutely. Hey, any of these Reds fans thicking if Kyle
Schwarber were from the middle of Nebraska that the Reds
would even consider offering him twenty five to thirty million
dollars a year.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
No, I don't think they'll consider offering him twenty five
million a year. And he's from Middletown.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
I get it that. That's the whole point. I'mi people,
Kyle Schwarber is not coming here unless you want to
trade the Phillies Hunter Green. Maybe I don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Oh, okay, wait a second now, Hunter Green for Schwarmer.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
I hate to disappoint people, but I don't think old
mister Schwarber is coming.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
I think the Phillies are going to cough up whatever
amount it takes to keep him there because he's the hometown,
not his hometown, but he's a big hero there.
Speaker 8 (22:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
I think it's important to set the expectations early in
this Reds off season that it's just not going to happen.
Let's get that.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
My next question, Let's make three comparison between the Reds
and the Bengals. Biggest roster holes, worse on field coaching management,
worse front office between the two teams.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Oh man, I feel like right now the Bengals have
worst roster holes.
Speaker 8 (22:29):
Yeah, I think the front office. I still I agree
with Austin. I think the Bengals have tried. I just
don't think they've got it right in some of that,
so I'll give them the edge there.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Is it crazy to say coaching is a push? I
mean I think push, but it's not the good kind
of push. Yeah, it ain't a touch push any successful one.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Have we moved to Tito the mediocre?
Speaker 4 (22:52):
Now?
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Is that what we're looking at?
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Yeah? When when he puts salin there and then salad delivered,
I thought Tito the Magnificent had one more ride.
Speaker 8 (22:59):
In them, but left the bad taste in my mouth. Yeah,
it's not the way you want to go into an offseason.
That's for darn sure.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
But would we be happy with a twenty five home
running year bat in the offseason?
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Yes, yes, for this team, they desperately need it. They're
the only team that's ever made the postseason without one
without an average over two seventy and a player to
hit twenty five or more home runs.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
But we don't need Schwarb or Judge. We just need
a consistent guy who hits long balls.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Yes, in this ballpark, which would mean they would have
to maybe adapt to the idea that home runs are
not in fact rally killers, but a lot of teams
rely on them to be successful.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
We also, can't you go into the offseason assuming that
guys are going to take a step forward. You can't
assume that Matt McLean's going to be better. You can't
assume that, you know, Sal Stewart is just going to
produce the same way like you have to try to
improve every part of the roster. You can't just assume, oh, well,
Spencer Steer, fully healthy, is going to hit thirty home runs. No,
(23:55):
we don't know what that's gonna look like.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Yeah. I think one of the more I think one
of the more fascinating offseason questions is Matt McClain and
what that's going to look like.
Speaker 8 (24:03):
He cannot come into spring training next year as the
starting second basement.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
He just can't.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
Yeah, yeah, I think yeah, it's gonna be, you know, man,
February is going to be the real doldrooms for you guys.
That's a bad feeling before spring training starts up. So
all right, we'll have a good afternoon, gents.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Thank you, Jeff, appreciate it. We've not done this yet
this week, Austin. Let's take a look here at the
a little bit of the schedule coming up this weekend
college slate. First, and one of those Marquee college football
games is what's gonna happen at Nippert Stadium Iowa State
against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Right now, Austin, still the Bearcat's
(24:43):
a one and a half point favorite. I know Iowa
State is without both starting cornerbacks right now, and they
had a very lengthy injury report today with players that
are questionable. The only player is still questionable for the
Bearcats Dante Corleone. That should be a good one. It
does not get any easier for Mark Stoops they go
to Georgia. Speaking of not getting any easier, Luke fickles bunch.
(25:04):
They had a bye week Austin. Before the bye they
got boat raced at home by Maryland. Wisconsin is not
in a goods place right now. No, they now go
to the Big House after that, Iowa, and then they
get the number one and number two respective teams in
the country Ohio State and Oregon. They still got to
play Indiana, they still got to play Illinois, they still
got to play Washington and Minnesota. Austin.
Speaker 8 (25:26):
I don't think Luke Fickle gets to a bowl game
in Wisconsin. Yeah, and I don't think he keeps his job.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Nope. They do not like him in Wisconsin. Not many
Top twenty five matchups though, across the board. Texas Florida
I think can be a sneaky good game because of
how Florida was viewed going into the year and what
Texas has done or not done. What about Alabama and
Vandy because Vandy upsets Bama last year, Now they got
(25:54):
to go to Alabama. They're not sneaking up on anybody.
Do you think Vandy has a shot to go in
and win that game where his Alabama kind of righted
the ship. They got to win over Georgia I know
Pavia has talked a lot in the offseason about this game.
You give Vandy a fighting chance.
Speaker 8 (26:10):
For as long as I live, I'll never pick Vanderbilt
to go into Tuscaloosa and beat the Crimson time.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
All Right, that's a good note.
Speaker 8 (26:15):
They're not sneaking up on anybody. Yeah, anymore, They're certainly
not sneaking up on Alabama this year. Bama gonna get
they lick back. Boise was a top twenty five team
to start the year. They're three and one. They go
to Notre Dame and they're gonna get twenty and a
half points. I think that is a crazy large spread,
just insane. You say something about Winschuler in might be
(26:37):
our cheesy spread of the week. Uh the you Miami
goes to Florida State. Florida State a little fraudulent after
that lost to Virginia And is Miami as good as
people think?
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Yes? And no? Okay on both of those questions.
Speaker 8 (26:55):
Okay, first game back to Florida State for Kirk kurb Street,
oh after they verbally abused him and his family after
college football playoff.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
I remember that. Yeah, that'll be one to watch for.
I hope Peter poops on their field.
Speaker 8 (27:07):
Wow, you're you're calling for a Peter poop yep, man,
that's an eighth anniversary Peter, of course being his dogs.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Yes, Peter Herbstreek the pooper. Uh, Thursday night Football tonight, Austin.
What do you think about the Rams and Niners? No
Brock Party because he's had another setback with turf toe.
Speaker 8 (27:25):
Yeah, something to think about. Party, tried to play through it,
got aggravated again. Turf toe stinks eight and a half.
That seem a lot. Yeah, as far as I know,
I think four starters for San Francisco are gone this week.
Not to mention, Nick Bose is already hurt and George
Kittle's already hurt. So I'll say every single year, it's
(27:47):
the same story with the forty nine ers, I'll say
the fifteen dudes hurt. I enjoy the ability in a
standalone game to appreciate the Rams. Think when they get
on a Sunday, you got everything going on, you're watching games,
the ability to watch them in a standalone environment. You
mentioned earlier in the week the greatness of Pokinakua right
now and how dominant he is. But it's just the
(28:09):
way the offense operates and how everything pieces together. Should
be a good Thursday night game. Outside of that, Dolphins
Panthers U I'm just gonna be a lot of forty
nine er fans there tonight, yeah, even though they're they're
banged up.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Lions Bengals, of course? What about the Vikings and the Browns.
Speaker 8 (28:27):
I just got off the notification from NFL that all
the game picks have been made for the weekend. Do
you want to hear some of the scores that people
are predicting for Bengals line?
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Please please?
Speaker 8 (28:39):
Thirty five seventeen okay, Lions not a cover. Not the Bengals, okay,
twenty eight to twenty thirty five, sixteen thirty four to seventeen,
thirty one to twenty huh So nobody thinks the Bengals
keep it close?
Speaker 6 (28:57):
Man?
Speaker 8 (28:58):
Bengals money line plus four ten? Wow, it's good value there, right?
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Nope? No waste of money. Waste of money? What Yeah,
I'm not buying it. I'm not believing in it. Well, dude,
a couple of these other ones that I'm not sure
if I'm buying or not. What are the Browns doing
London against the Vikings? Good luck Dylan Gabriel, here's Brian Flores. Yep,
that's what I thought of immediately. Will Shadoor Sanders actually
(29:24):
speak before then? Actually we have some Shadoor Sanders audio here.
Take a listen. Okay, great point. That is a great point.
You know what's interesting is there was that report that
he like blocked wanting to go to the Baltimore Ravens
to be Lamar's backup. Yep, and now Lamar's doubtful this week,
and he could have been starting instead. He's third string
(29:45):
in Cleveland. You reap what you sew, young man. Funny
how life works.
Speaker 8 (29:49):
Dylan Gabriel kind of took a shot at him too, like,
if you sit around waiting for your chance at all
it all the time, you may never get it.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Uh, Cult, Raiders, Giants, Saints, Well, Cowboys, Jets.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
Why'd you say it like that? I just don't think
Jackson Dart baby all right, the Dart era. I just
those teams are combined one for seven. So I hesitant.
I think the Eagles dominate the Broncos on Sunday. What
about Texans Ravens? Well, hold on AJ Brown, he's upset
he's not getting the rock this sounds like one of
those games he gets a rock trouble ice. No, I
(30:21):
think he gets a rock about eleven times. I don't
think he's gonna get it at all. Patrick Schertan still there.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Oh oh, he continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
It's time for since he three sixty quick hits.
Speaker 7 (30:36):
On ESPN looking in the building, was looking for mo gentlemen,
Happy anniversary. Congratulations, Well you too, Thank you so much
all you've done. I've done absolutely nothing, But you think
of all the people who have worked on this show.
You know it started as a James Rapeaen vehicle. Yeah,
you guys, I thought first of Jimmy Sandy exactly. That's
(30:57):
exactly who I thought of.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
So congratulations to all parties involved. Thank you. Literally five
of us have ever worked on this crazy literally crazy.
And I thought, as a gift, yeah, we could sit
down tonight and see Andrew.
Speaker 8 (31:11):
Rabbit pitch in the postseason. Boy, that would be nice.
Or maybe Chase Burns and some meaningful innings. That would
be nice. What about Emilio Pagan? That would be nice
because the only pitches when the Reds are winning. Crazy
Nicolodola just got roughed up in his outing yesterday. Didn't
want to bring him back out there.
Speaker 7 (31:26):
He was awful, and those fourteen pitches just got crushed
just throwing meat balls.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
I guess they were. He was tipping his pitches too.
It's crazy to think we spent all season talking about
if they just find a way in their pitching, yeah,
we'll give them every chance. And most of those guys
didn't even have a chance to give them a chance.
Speaker 7 (31:43):
So I put this on social media last night. The
series took a nose dive when Hunter Green threw his
fourth pitch. Because if they were going to win this series,
it wasn't going to be outscore of the Dodgers. It
was going to be when close, low scoring games. Two
things had to happen. Neither did one. The starting pitching
was going to have to be x to. They were
gonna have to play clean in the field, and god
knows they didn't do that. But something we did all
(32:05):
season long, which was, you know they would lose a
tough game, including on opening Day, they would lose a
tough game, you would go like, man, I hope we
don't go back and look at that one well, we
didn't in relation to them making the postseason. But because
of all those losses, Game one sixty two mattered, and
instead of doing what the Milwaukee Brewers did, or instead
(32:26):
of doing what the Philadelphia Phillies did, they had to
play and so they had to use bullets. I cannot
blame Terry Francona for using Nicko Loodolo on Sunday. I
could blame the team for making Sunday matter because my
thought on Sunday when they put Lodolo in was crap.
Now if they do get in, he can't pitch Wednesday.
(32:47):
It might not have made a difference. My guess is
it wouldn't have. But there's a reverberation. So the goal
next year is to how about this play one sixty
two with a bunch of reserves. Have it not met,
have a lead, you've clinched the division?
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Yeah. A week and a half prior sell tickets to
a scrimmage.
Speaker 7 (33:06):
Celtic, we should be watching a scrimmage one one year
from today at GABP.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
So like that.
Speaker 7 (33:14):
That is to me, and my big takeaway is because
this team treaded water all season long in a year
where the expectation was to make the playoffs. It came
back to bite them in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
It's hard not to have what ifs. What if south
Stewart was caught up earlier? Yeah, what if south Stewart,
who I saw last night battle, yes at the dish.
What if that south Stewart played consistently down the stretch?
Uh huh? What if he played in meaningful games for
this team instead of just sparingly. What if Will Benson
got opportunities and maybe last night after a really good
at bat to draw a walk, maybe get to actually
finish out in at bat instead of being taken out.
(33:46):
I don't think in the middle of it.
Speaker 7 (33:47):
I don't think I've ever seen both both ends of
it taken out mid at bat. I've seen the picture
taken out mid at bat. I've seen the hit or
replace mid at bat. I've not seen that.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Benson gets charged with the strikeout and jehar comes on
and has the impossible to Yeah, seeing a pitch tough on.
Speaker 8 (34:01):
Yes, it's just hard on all round. What do you
think that Will Benson exit meeting is like today?
Speaker 7 (34:08):
Will It's been nice? Yeah, please run out of here.
I don't know, guys. Here's what happens in sports. This
is the beauty. We turned the page very quickly. Yeah,
but number one, our attention spans are shorter than they've
ever been too. That's the beauty of sports, most of us.
I just turned to the next so today and Abu Dabby,
(34:29):
I'm not sure you guys were following the New York
Knicks OH fifteen point exhibition victory over the Philadelphia seventy
six ers. Cincinnati's own Deduce McBride. You got the music
ready five and seven from the field. The tone was
set in Abu Dhabi.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
Nice. A lot of people think, you know you mentioned
Cincinnati's own Miles McBride. Kyle schwarber' is a Cincinnati guy
and went to Middletown. People are already clamoring that they're
gonna go get Kyle Schwarber this offseason. Can we just
put that to bet officially? Probably? But why should we? Well,
but we know how this goes. But like that's the problem. Yeah,
that's the problem.
Speaker 7 (35:03):
The off season isn't twenty four hours old, and already
it feels like, nah, you get patted on the head
instead it should be screw it, man, go get Kyle Schwarber.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah, a bat you.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
Think, huh so okay, not Kyle Schwarber, not Pete A
Lonzo than who. Now I know some are going to say,
well Sal Stewart man, Sala Stewart looks like a dude,
but like he's not established, Like I want an established slugger.
The problem is, and this is an off season where
(35:37):
the Reds have an opportunity to change it. By the way,
there's not a lot of money locked into next year's team, right,
There's some guys who are arbitration eligible, but like the
guaranteed salaries are key, Brian Hayes, Hunter Green and what else?
Speaker 2 (35:50):
You got?
Speaker 7 (35:52):
Travino a good player, right, good? Good the one bee catcher.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Right.
Speaker 7 (35:57):
So the problem is we're so condition to going as
we say it with the Bengals, that's just not what
they do.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Why can't it be you know? By the way, I
was the guy and there.
Speaker 7 (36:08):
Were others who last off season were like, wait a minute,
the Mets aren't gonna sign Pee Alonzo long term?
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Go sign him for a year?
Speaker 7 (36:16):
Oh mo, ce S do you do you have Cees?
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Do you have him?
Speaker 6 (36:26):
Mo?
Speaker 7 (36:26):
They don't mean and I'm like, all right, so who
else is going to hit thirty five for you? Oh mo,
we got rees high. Honestly, Jacob heard of me. Dam
they could have, so like that's the thing we est
so all right?
Speaker 2 (36:44):
Fine? Not Kyle Schwarmer, Not not Pete Alonzo? Who got
spender steel? Be healthy?
Speaker 7 (36:51):
Who is hitting thirty? Just make it thirty? Who's hitting
thirty home runs next year? Sal Stewart?
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Maybe the Earl?
Speaker 7 (36:58):
Are you betting on that? By the way, you're also
allowed to have check this out. Two guys who hit
thirty home runs?
Speaker 2 (37:03):
I about that? Wait? Really? Yeah? What else you got
coming up on the show today? We're going to spend
time on that. Okay.
Speaker 7 (37:09):
I'm going to go back to a night in December
twenty twenty. Wow, when Zach Taylor won me over. Okay,
we're going to do that powerful. Yeah, it's going to
be exciting. Jeff Carr is going to be on the show,
Jay Morrison, should the risk? Should the Bengals sign Jed
(37:30):
Rars' cousin, Derek Carr?
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Jaed Rendell? Is Lee going to join you today and
then join us on Sunday?
Speaker 7 (37:36):
Lee is not going to join us on Sunday, Okay,
but he's going to join me today. Okay, I wanted
to clear this late for Sunday, you and I at
the Holy Grail. Yeah, from noon to two thirty would
be nice if we're talking about big UC win as
well on Sunday. Gonna be a fun game on Saturday.
Good atmosphere, good team coming in. Like so okay, I
think Saturday made people perk up right, Okay, especially because
Bengals stink. Let me take a look at this. Let's see,
(37:58):
let's watch this closer. So now the people's attention. Can
you prove that that wasn't an outlier? Like if you
win this one man game.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
On uc F Oklahoma State, uh huh, Baylor comes in,
you can before and no going into Baylor.
Speaker 7 (38:10):
Yeah, this is this is a huge This is a
big opportunity for this team. And Shan and I are
going to talk about Saturday. Like folks have wondered, like
are they good? I think the conversation has gone from
who are these guys too? Are they good? That's a
good step. Saturday will tell us that the answer is yes. Yeah,
a lot to build up bred sours be solid with
(38:31):
you today.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Who's good? Yeah, very well spoken, he's he got to
root for n I own money must be good because
that's an expensive tab. If he's taken every lineman the
ninnner's the game to Jeff Rubies after wins, is that
what you were doing? I brought him donuts, brought him
over Mom and Dan's house for burgers nights, Friday nights,
Thursday nights.
Speaker 7 (38:49):
Many years ago, we had a boss who took the
staff of thirteen sixty Homer oh to Jeff Rubies.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Nice took us there. That's nice. I didn't say he
paid for the dinner. Oh, you talk about the sticker shock.
Speaker 7 (39:04):
Oh, when you're like, I don't know what I twenty
seven years old, that's different. Hey, we're going to Rubies.
That's kind of nice. And then suddenly like the guy
starts passing out all that and I'm like, we're gonna pay,
We gonna pay for all of these.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (39:16):
A few years ago during COVID kind of that boss,
uh Me and the other producers were given gift cards
to Jeff Rubies. Were you, Yeah, one hundred dollars gift cards.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
There's nothing on them.
Speaker 7 (39:29):
Has anybody commemorated you guys on the anniversary of your show.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
People that work here? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (39:35):
No, no, wait till you hit milestone, I get paid.
Wait till you hit milestones like twenty twenty five years. Yeah,
then they really roll out the red carpet. They pull
out all the stuffs to congratulate.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Well, they threw everything out of us last year for
arm Tony and mol football show. So that's alway show.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
I saw John dumb on Facebook at Channel twelve. They
gave him like it looks like you drink wine out
of it, I guess, or smoked weed out of Canter
gave him this big thing for twenty years at Channel twelve.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Wow, John Gum, John Gum, what's his middle name? Can
I have a pizza? There? You go low? That's why
we get eight years right there? Eight years? Yeah, so
I was gonna say, chewing. We do have a nice
piece of paper commemorating in ten years.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
I thought you guys got bottles of bourbon for that.
We did get one. One person brought us bottles of Yeah,
we did get one, but you take eight years.
Speaker 7 (40:27):
My dad worked for ten years at an area hell
club and they sent him to Hawaii. Huh, that's pretty cool.
We have a list of things I just like at
this point, not even one take it to Jeff Ruby.
It is like twenty years ago. I don't even know why.
You gotta take it to Jeff Ruby.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
Pay.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
That's incredible how the times have changed. My lagger is
next ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Have a great
rest of your Thursday.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
So you see Ky.
Speaker 7 (41:48):
Since a
