Speaker 2 (00:25):
Welcome back. The third and final hour getting underway here
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It's the Thursday edition,
but really the Friday edition because I'm not in tomorrow.
So instead of our Friday guests not appearing, we're making
them appear today. And Tommy g the voice of FC Cincinnati,
is very very nice enough to oblige with that, even

(00:46):
though as Cleveland Guardians have been despicable to the Cincinnati
Reds this week. He joins us Now, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy,
what's going on?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Tony, Tony, Tony, Happy Thursday. I hope we are not
throwing all of our faithful seasons listeners who tune in
at two o'clock every Friday.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Yes, I'm run into them about town. I'm ATOK Sporting Goods.
I see people who who listen.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
To your show faithfully every day, So I'd imagine they're
not just tuning in for me. They're tuning in for
three hours of Tony every single day and then uh,
and then they'll get us today. But no, I'm just
drawing off some champagne over here.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Oh yeah, Ohio Cup, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
You guys done crying about that bunt? Are we done
with that?

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I mean, So it's it's so funny because it's like,
you know, I'm kind of like stuck between this rock
and hard place.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Oh yeah, here in Cincinnati not enviable.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Uh And and I mean, if if this whole city
is not just ticked off at uh.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
The the Cleveland Guardian social admin right now, then then
I don't know what's going on.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
And I love the the argument that like you put
on your social media to think that the Guardians bothered us,
that we weren't even thinking about what you're obviously thinking
about them, if you're tweeting about him or posting on
your social media about it, or or the Guardians are
living rent free in our head or whatever they we're
living with the Reds.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
We're living rent free and the Guardian, well, you're.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Tweeting about it, so obviously it's bugging you, Like if
you're not posting about it then or if you don't care,
then don't post about it. Like it's just funny. Social
media teams do this stuff all over the place. Suddenly
all of it is just funny. Obviously, I'm happy for
my baseball team. You know, you and I were texting
each other the other night, and obviously very lighthearted and

(02:28):
show it's not like I mean, and the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Play is a little more. It's incredible for me, I
would say, especially you know, I mean, they haven't had
a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Of meaningful games in the last few years for one
reason or the other, you know, because of one of
the teams being eliminated when they play late in the season.
But man, it's fun when they have a meaningful game,
and that one means a little more. Like these just coincient,
you know, cost with the Guardians run to the playoffs here.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It has been remarkable to watch. But congratulations to the
Guardians and we here in Kentucky or Cincinnati or whatever
they want to label it as regardless, they've delivered you
and that makes me happy because we get to talk
to you. Tommy FC Cincinnati. We talked last week about
the opportunity for f C Cincinnati to go on the road,

(03:16):
find a way to get three points and continue to
stack those wins. They didn't go on the road and
get three. Instead, they went on the road and got
a point. From a draft standpoint, talk about the trip
to Nashville, and do you see that even coming out
of that, do you still find a positive in that,
in the way that they were able to essentially come

(03:38):
from behind in the second half and salvage a point.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Well, you know, first and foremost, I had some great
meals in Nashville. That's not what you're asking me about.
You want to know about the game, So of course that's
too not my travel adventures.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
But no, I think that's the reality, right, is you.
We talked about it last week that the team, you know,
needed to go there and get three points, and they
got a point and so not a disaster, but not
as rewarding as maybe they hoped it would be. I
think the general feeling afterwards was like, all right, we
got thumping out of it, but we didn't quite get
what we wanted. So it was a little frustrating because

(04:12):
I think they felt like maybe opportunities were.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
There to get all three points.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
I think it was a little frustrating from officiating standpoint
in some ways, an on call took Nico's goal off
the board, one that we don't see very often. There
was another call very similar to it later in the match,
which considering I mean that as system referee had already
made it once, so he sure heck better made it
again later in the game.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
So I think, you know, it didn't feel disastrous.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
The team had a fight from behind and twice tied
the match, just couldn't quite break through to win it,
and you know, all things considered, still in a good
spot with four games to go. So no, I think
I think it was a good effort. I think they
would have loved a great effort in three points. But
that's just not quite how it shook out.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
When you look now at where the team stands in
this let's call it a stretch run before we get
into la itself. From a health standpoint, From a confidence standpoint,
where do you gather that that this team is in.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
I think they're in a great spot, and it was
confirmed today. I mean the team as far as active players,
so excluding the guys who are in the season in
the injury list. You know, they have their their team available.
Everybody is healthy, which is great news. Saturday, you know,
the unexpected news was that they were missing Pavel Buca.
It has just been revealed, I believe this morning actually

(05:32):
that his wife went into labor a week ago and
then delivered.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Their first son, their first child, last Thursday.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
So congratulations with Buoka. Family grew by one. So he
missed the trip. Wasn't a training Friday. It was funny
because I had this great question about Pavel ready for.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
My pregame interview with that, and then I looked at
him as that.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Pavel's not here, all right, I'll scratch that question, you know,
But no, I think, uh, you know, that was the
only piece that you were missing in the game. And
I think what's important about it, And I talked about
it on the broadcast a little bit, and and Pat
and I talked about it, is that, you know, because
Pavel was gone. You yeah, I had to drop in
the defensive midfield. Remember you know before that we've seen

(06:13):
a lot of productivity from Yu Yakubo as of late,
and and played really well in the game against Minnesota,
a striker and yu Ya started at three different positions
over the course of three matches in eight days. He
started at wing back, he started at striker, and then
he started in the defensive midfield.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
So you know, we we've talked about his versatility all year.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
But I asked Pat straight away, you know, is yu
Yah one of your two strikers now based on his
productivity at that position? He said absolutely. However, with Pavel out,
he's our next best option in.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
The defensive midfield, so we have to drop him back
from that position and and somebody else has to step in.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
So I think, you know, the rest of the guys
are competing to see who will be the starting striker
alongside you Ya, which is a great thing because now
Pavel and Ob are.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Available in and they're available for the rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Then Julia is one of two strikers and he's been
fantastic there. So I think it creates healthy competition and
training every day. And uh yeah, I think, you know,
after thirty MLS games and eight matches from other competitions,
you're at thirty eight matches already, so team's gonna be
at forty two going into the playoffs with a minimum
of two playoffs, Well, get him to forty four. Last

(07:22):
year it was forty through forty three across all competitions
through the Eastern Conference final when they were eliminated by Columbus.
So now I think if you're patting it in and
his physio staff and the athletic training staff, you're you're
feeling really good about where your team is.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
You know, here at the end of September.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Talk about the challenge that LAFC presents on Saturday at
Tiquo Stadium.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
This is a tough opponent. Tony Pee Tarundelo has them
playing well. He had him in a US Open Cup
final last night. I think it went about That game
went about as well as any f C Cincinnati fan
could hope because Sporting Can't City took them one hundred
and twenty minutes. LAFC ends up winning three to one,
which in my opinion is a positive because what happens

(08:07):
after you win a cup final tional champagne, probably a
few beers in the locker room. Hopefully that celebration is
spilled over to a local spot in LA for a
couple of hours afterwards, and they're all feeling a little
sluggish today, you know, and then they have to make
a trip out to Cincinnati. I assume I haven't heard yet.
I assume they're you know, normally, when when a West
Coast team is coming in, or you know, a team

(08:28):
in Eastern time zone is going out to the West coast,
f CCINCINNTI would go to La would go to San Jose,
would go to Seattle today a day early to get
acclimatized a little bit. I'm guessing they're coming in tomorrow,
which won't give them a whole lot of time to
adjust the time zone and all of that. So they're
gonna have a tough challenge. But this is a team
that is very good. They made the League's Cup final,

(08:51):
you know, they obviously played an MS Cup final last year,
and now they just won the US Open Cup. And
they have loaded up with a lot of really good players,
including a couple guys with long, long resumes with the
French national team. They have any Blonga, who has just
been fantastic this year with seventeen goals and ten assists.
He's an MVP candidate, you know, a world class goalkeeper

(09:14):
in Hugo Larisse, you know, and then they've added in
Olivier Zeru who scored last night. He scored in the
league's Cup final. So they have, you know, a lot
of world class talent. And oh, by the way, they
added Carlos VELAs, who was their captain and one of
you know, their most respected and storied players of their
early years in Major League soccers. They just added him

(09:35):
in the mix. So no, I think it's a very
good team that's coming in. And Pat Nowan said this morning,
He's like, look, I don't care what they did last night,
They're going to be ready to go.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
And I tend to agree.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Lastly, for the stretch, run here, Tommy, Now the picture
becomes clearer. Interer Miami sixty four points FC Cincinnati and
the Columbus crew with fifty six, and then there's the
gap to the Red Bulls at forty four. How important
from a look ahead standpoint is the two versus the
three in a way to finish this out for f
C Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Yeah, and it's been secured that f C Cincanni will
be in the top three at this point.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Obviously they could still get the one.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Uh, you know, they'd have to win win out and
get some help from Miami dropping massive results, which Miami
hasn't had any dip in form, so I really find
it hard to believe that we're going to see that happen.
Miami will win the Supporter Shield, but I think, you know,
finishing ahead of Columbus is wildly important. That two verse

(10:33):
three would mean a rematch between these teams in the
playoffs in the Eastern Conference semi final, assuming they both
win in their first round best of three series, and
everybody would love to have that game here.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
At TQO Stadium.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I suppose they having to go one hundred miles up
the road, sure f C Cincinnati one earlier this year
at lower dot Com Field, but the preference would be
that that matches here in the Queen City. And then
presumably and look, it depends on how things play out,
but you want to make or not just starting you
the two in the Eastern Conference, but you're the two
overall because the conference final, you would potentially then have

(11:07):
to go to Miami, assuming they're alive at that point,
and you'd have to win a conference final in Miami,
which would.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Not be an easy task.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
But if you did that and you were the two
overall seed, then you know that MLS Cup is going
to d at tqu Al Stadium, because you'd be ahead
of all the teams in the West, and then you're
not suddenly rooting well, I want this team to win
because they're a lower seed than us, so we can
host as opposed them to go to l A or l.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
A f C.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
You know, who seem like they would be the favorite
maybe to jump ahead.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
You know.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I was talking to some folks and the general feeling
is that like MLS Cup would would based on the
teams that are the best you want to say in
MLS right now or have the most talent, that MLS
Cup will be hosted in Ohio, Los Angeles or Miami.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
But is it ever that easy? Right?

Speaker 3 (11:56):
But I mean, I think the two LA teams have
a good chance to be there, the two Ohio teams
have a good chance to be there, and and the
Miami team obviously has a good chance to be there
as they're leading the supporter shield. But no, I think
Pat knows that that that two seed is what everybody
is targeting right now, you know. And and certainly if
they win, you know, on Saturday, and then they win

(12:18):
on on Wednesday, and a quick turnar.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
At NYC and Miami drops in points.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
You're like, oh, two games left, maybe there is a
chance to have the supporter shield, but that'll be looked
at later. In the meantime, the focus is l L
A f C getting that home win and and continuing
to work with the two seeds.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
That's Tom Gletter, the voice of FC Cincinnati. Tommy, will
you take solace and watching Thursday Night football tonight knowing
that the Browns helped each of these teams get their
only win of the.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Season to this point.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
I mean, I don't know what givers givers in Cleveland, but.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Just yeah, correct, Tom, I mean I don't have anything
else on that.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
On that, on that situation, you got a lot more
to say about the guard.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
L and the AI d S.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, Tom, you're the man. I appreciate the time as always.
Thanks for moving the schedule around, and we'll be back
at it next week. Have a good weekend, all right.
Let me know, Tony appreciate it. Yes, sir, that's Tom
gallad to the Voice of FC Cincinnati. This is since
