Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Skyline Chile. Since he three sixty about Cincinnati
from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Skyline Chile. Stop by
Skyline Chile for a three way or cheeze cony today.
Feeling good, It's Skyline time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Welcome.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Oh yeah, baby, is it Monday yet? It sure is?
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Hi.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome in since e three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty.
My name is Austin Elmore and thanks for being here.
Monday night football tonight on this radio station. Eight o'clock
is the kickoff. Six thirty is our coverage. It's the
Bengals up against the Washington Commander's preseason game number two,
(00:50):
and we've got you covered between now and two thirty
this morning. That's correct live programming on this radio for
the next fourteen and a half hours. I've got twelve
to three today Tony Pike and Ken Brew from three
to six thirty. We'll turn things over to the Bengals
Network from six thirty to twelve thirty, and then I'll
(01:13):
be right back here from twelve thirty am until two
thirty AM for postgame sports talk. And I'm fired up
about it and happy that you are here with me
to start your Monday right here on ESPN fifteen thirty.
We've got a lot to talk about. We've got some good,
we've got some bad, we've got some ugly, and I
(01:35):
don't even know where to start, to be completely honest.
You've got the ongoing Trey Hendrickson saga. You've got the
Reds six errors in two games that cost him a
potential sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds lost the series.
Jake Fraley basically said, hey, I deserve to be playing,
and the Reds are like, no, you don't, and he's like, well,
(01:56):
I want to play it, and they're like, okay, you
can go away. Jake Frayley has been dfade. We got
some good injury news, We've got some bad injury news.
We'll get you up to date with all of that.
The reads back in action tonight. Brady Singer takes the
mound as they begin a ten day, nine game road
trip out West that could determine the season. If you
(02:17):
want to be one of those people that still believes,
go right ahead and obviously looking ahead to the Bengals
and the Commanders tonight and what will be the final time.
I assume that we see Joe Burrow and the Bengals
starters ahead of week one, September the seventh at Cleveland.
Phone lines are open and will be open for the
entirety of today's show. Five on three seven four nine,
(02:39):
seven thousand is or fifteen thirty five one three seven
four nine fifteen thirty is the phone number. I've been
on a lot of radio stations the last couple of days.
I was on WLW Friday night and Saturday afternoon. I'm
back here today and tonight, and so sometimes I say
the radio station's phone number wrong, and I apologize for that,
(03:00):
but it's five point three seven four nine fifteen thirty.
You can tweet at me as well at Audiel Moore
au t y E L M o r E. Speaking
of tweets, you can go over to my page right
now and vote on today's poll question should you pay
a player for what they have done or what they
will do? This, of course talking about Trey Hendrickson, who
(03:22):
is thirty years old, getting older as we all are,
and has been incredibly accomplished over the last several years
with the Bengals, and he wants more guaranteed money into
the future of his deal. So should you pay a
player for what they have done or what they will do?
Right now, sixty seven percent say you should pay a
(03:44):
player for what they will do. We'll get to Trey
and the Bengals in just a little bit. At one o'clock,
Richard Skinner from Local twelve is going to stop by.
Haven't talked to Skinny in a while. I want to
get his thoughts not only on Trey and the Bengals tonight,
but also on the weekend that was at Great American Ballpark.
We'll talk about that in just a second as well.
(04:05):
At two o'clock it'll be Paul Danner Junior from the Athletic.
Paul will join me ahead of tonight's game. He wrote
a great piece on Shamar Stewart, and he, Diana Russini
and others at the Athletic have been gathering information about
the Trey Henderson trade saga that we'll talk to Paul about.
Talkbacks at one twenty their normal time, and then at
two forty five quick hits with Tony Pike and hopefully
(04:28):
Ken Briwle. I hope Ken is here and Ken wants
to be a part of it because we love when
Ken's on the show, so hopefully Ken will join us
for quick Hits as well. So let's not bury the lead.
And there's plenty of football to talk about between now
and kickoff tonight eight hours from now. But I can't
figure out how people feel about the Reds after this weekend.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
Now.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
I've said several times that I think the season is over,
that I don't think they're good enough. I don't think
they did enough. I don't think this team can get
out of its own way and play consistent enough, clean
enough baseball to make a playoff spot. That being said,
they are within striking distance of the playoffs, and it
(05:13):
magnifies every little thing that you do. Five games over
five hundred trending towards the end of August, they deserve
credit for that, but it really doesn't matter if you
can't get into the playoffs. And right now, after losing
two out of three to Milwaukee and the New York
Mets winning two of three against Seattle over the weekend,
(05:35):
the Reds are a game and a half out of
the final playoff spot. The good news is they're four
games clear of the next team behind them, which is
the Saint Louis Cardinals. They've lost five games in a row.
But because the Reds could not take advantage of the
opportunity put in front of them on Friday and Saturday,
(05:55):
instead of talking about this team being in the final
wild card spot, we're talking about them being behind the
Mets again. So I've seen people say that the Reds
were one or two defensive plays away from sweeping the
Milwaukee Brewers, and that because of this, you should be
(06:17):
happy and excited about the direction of the football of
the baseball team, and that they do still have a
chance and will be competitive until the very end of
the National League. I can't help but take the opposite look,
which is, oh, look, they had another opportunity and they
(06:38):
foiled it again. Until this team proves to me that
they can be the team that takes advantage of Milwaukee's errors,
that steps on a team's throat, that doesn't get in
their own way, that can play clean defense, that can
hit timely, that can trust their closer to get guys out.
(06:58):
Until they prove that to me, I have a hard
time believing that they will ever actually put it all together.
And what's especially frustrating about it is that you look
at the rest of the National League, and you feel
like the Reds are really not that far off from
all of those teams. We know that they're a game
(07:20):
and a half behind the Mets, but the Padres are
sixty nine and fifty five, the Cubs are seventy and
fifty three, And although they won two out of three
against Pittsburgh, they didn't really look sharp in that series
against Pittsburgh. The Dodgers we know about their pitching issues.
The Reds have handled the Phillies pretty well so far
this season. Milwaukee is kind of on a different level,
(07:41):
at least has been for the last couple of months.
But I don't think there's huge separations. I don't think
there's a massive gap between the very best team in
the National League and the Reds. I don't think the
gap is huge, which makes all of this even more frustrating.
A couple of plays is getting away in the series
against San Diego, a couple of plays getting away in
(08:04):
the series against Philadelphia that cost them that first game,
A couple of plays getting away in the series against Milwaukee.
And this has been the theme for the last couple
of years. Repeatedly, they can't get out of their own way.
And we've talked about how the margin for error is
(08:25):
so thin with this ball club. It's so thin they
don't have enough talent to screw up, and then the
talent will cover it up, you know, Like the Bengals
have the deficiencies of the offensive line and the deficiencies
of the defense, but they have enough talent on offense
that you can cover that up sometimes that you can
(08:47):
still find a way to win. The Reds don't have that. Yeah,
you like what you see from Miguel Andahar, but Elie
de la Cruz inconsistent, defensively lost all the power out
of his bad Spencer Steer is a great RBI guy
one minute and then can't get in front of a
ball at first base the next. Matt McClain has falling
(09:08):
back off the cliff that he already fell back off
of once. He looks awful. Noelvie Marte, He's fine. He's
not putting the team on his back. Austin Hayes isn't either,
despite his walk off single yesterday. You hope that Hunter
Green and Andrew Abbit can be those guys, but they
pitch every fifth day. Is it gonna be?
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Jose A?
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Travino, who took over the game yesterday. Can he play
like that every day? Probably not, you know what I mean.
And so I come away from this series, especially going
back to Friday night when they had an eight to
one lead and it was in the second inning, and
I said to myself, this game is far from over.
(09:52):
I even tweeted about it. I said, step on their
throat this game. It is way too early for this
game to think it's over. And sure enough, here comes Milwaukee.
Nick Martinez, twenty one million dollar man, says he completely
lost focus after the Reds couldn't turn a simple double play,
(10:14):
and next thing you know, Milwaukee's right back in the game.
How about Emelio Pagan, who I have been critical of
this season because for some reason, Emilio can't throw strikes,
and that's kind of an important thing to do for
a relief pitcher, for a closer, especially even more so
(10:34):
when you're facing the bottom of the lineup like Amelio
was on Saturday and he comes in and walks guys.
How about Sunday opportunity for redemption for Emelio Pagan comes
out and walks the first guy he faces on four pitches.
By the way, then gives up an absolute meatball tank
shot to William Contrez and you're thinking, well, this thing's over.
(10:57):
And to the Red's credit, they got up off the
mat and they found a way to win that game. Now,
it's been forty one straight series that the Reds have
gone without being swept. And while I do think that
is an interesting and noteworthy stat, let's not fool ourselves.
It means nothing. Despite not being swept in forty one
(11:21):
consecutive series, the Reds are still not in the playoffs.
That is what matters. Yeah, this streak and not being swept,
that's cool, and I don't mind mentioning it, but let's
not act like that means something. The bar and the
standard should be a lot higher than nobody sweeps the Reds.
(11:45):
How about the Reds do some sweeping. How about the
Reds go win a series against a really good team.
How about you finally beat the Milwaukee Brewers in a
series thirteen consecutive series losses two mill on Milwaukee, a
team that spends a lot less money than them and
(12:08):
somehow finds a way to develop and go after the
right players at the right times and builds it into
a winner. Turns it into a winner. I just look
at this weekend and I think, gottle, can this team
ever overcome themselves? The lack of talent, the lack of
(12:30):
baseball IQ, the lack of experience, which I think plays
a role in all of this. I don't think it's
crazy to say that, but overall, I just wonder, can
this team ever actually do it? I don't think they can.
I really don't. And they're getting ready to go out
on this West coast road trip where they will play
(12:52):
three against the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels are sixty
and sixty four this season. They have a thirty three
and thirty record at home, so they play good baseball
at least better baseball when they are at home. Then
they go to Arizona and play the Diamondbacks, who basically
gave up on the season but have still played relatively
(13:14):
decent ball since the trade deadline. Arizona is sixty and
sixty five. They come into this week riding a three
game losing streak, but are certainly still a formidable team,
a team that the Red swept earlier this year. And
then they go right back out to Los Angeles to
play the Dodgers for three more. The Dodgers have won
(13:36):
three in a row going into this week. I just
don't know what to make of this team's chances against
the top teams in the National League. Can they ever,
at any point overcome themselves? Always look at the expected
(13:58):
win loss record, which which is based off the runs
scored and the runs allowed. The Reds have a plus
forty nine run differential. They are sixty five and sixty
on the season. They're expected win loss is sixty eight
and fifty seven. That continues to tell me that they
struggle to score and struggle to put it all together. Defensively,
(14:30):
they struggle to do the little things right. They should
be sixty eight and fifty seven, which would have them
comfortably ahead of the Mets in the wild card spot
right now. That's what it's supposed to be at this moment,
and yet because they continually get in their own way,
this is where we're at looking ahead to this week.
(14:54):
The Mets are off today, but they go to Washington
to begin a set with the National So it's not
like they're gonna lose any ground, at least I don't
expect to, and I know the Mets weren't gonna stink forever.
After the Nationals, the Mets go to Atlanta for three
and then come back home to play the Phillies in Philadelphia.
So not the easiest stretch for the Mets, but certainly
(15:18):
not the hardest stretch for the Mets. And just once,
I would like to see the Reds earn their way
into a playoff spot instead of another team falling apart
to let the Reds get in. That's what I'd like
to see. Can the Reds play baseball? That means we
(15:42):
are good enough, strong enough, smart enough, clutch enough to
get into the playoffs and make noise or are they
gonna rely on other people to fall apart like the
Mets in order to get in. Just once, I would
like to see the Reds grab hold of it and say,
(16:02):
this is who we are, this is what we can be.
Do they have the talent to do that? Do they
have the depth to do that? Do they have the
bullpen to do that? Do they have the health to
do that? I don't know that they do. And yeah,
I'm happy they won yesterday and I'm happy that they're
a game and a half out of a wild card spot.
(16:24):
But why should after what I saw this weekend. Why
should I believe any more in this team? Six errors
in two games. Defensively, there's still a joke and they're inconsistent.
Don't get it? Why should I believe? Why should I believe?
(16:48):
Your phone calls when we come back five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. This is Sincy three sixty hour one, brought
to you by Skyline Chilly on the Home of the
Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
Grip that to base head down the left field line.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
The Reds have cut off the man.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
And they are finally, finally feting the drawers a three
two final score and they will mop Austin Hayes at
first B.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Jeff Brantley on the call yesterday, our call of the
day here on since he three to sixty high. My
name is Austin Elmore. With you until three o'clock today.
Richard Skinner at one, Paul Daanner Junior at two. T
Pike joins at two forty five, Anthony Big Tone, He's
gonna be on with ken Brew this afternoon three to
six thirty, taking you right up to our network coverage
(17:39):
of the Bengals and Commanders in Maryland at Northwest Southeast
Stadium or whatever they call that place now, that old
dump that they're trying to get rid of in in DC. Anyways,
reads with the topic of conversation to start. They did
win yesterday, as you just heard on that Austin Hayes
walk off single three to two was the final score.
(18:00):
We're gonna get to your phones in just a minute.
Your phone calls in just a second. But the story
of yesterday was Andrew Abbott. You know, he pitched pretty
good last few times out, but the Reds just haven't
been able to win. He pitched great again yesterday, seven innings,
four hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out seven batters.
Here is Andrew Abbott yesterday after the big win. Well,
(18:24):
we knew, we knew. We couldn't give them pitches to hit.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Really, he couldn't have any mistake pitches because they had
gotten this two times before. So just really, you know,
hammering down on location, staying away from barrels as much
as possible. And you know they're gonna find barrels, are
gonna hit because they're a good team, so you know,
staying away, you know, keeping the leadoff guy on base
as much as possible, and just trying to keep momentum
on our side.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
As long as as long as I could.
Speaker 9 (18:46):
Let's talk your catcher, Jose Trevino sends you guys to extras,
makes that key throw over the third to begin the tenth.
Speaker 10 (18:52):
What did you see from him?
Speaker 3 (18:53):
And how valuable is he out there?
Speaker 8 (18:54):
He's been great. I mean, I mean he did it
all today. I mean as as you said and as
everybody saw. But for the pitching staff, he's been great.
He's been a veteran leader for us. You know, I
haven't really been around him and Steve O like together,
but I'm sure that they're communicating. I'm sure that they're
talking about it as well. So he's been a good
presence in the clubhouses, you know, just treating everybody with respect,
showing up every day ready to play. You couldn't ask
(19:17):
any more of them.
Speaker 11 (19:17):
I think he was for from a guy like that
is kind of building against the show. How does he
show that way?
Speaker 10 (19:23):
So we probably don't cat to say.
Speaker 8 (19:25):
You know, he's energetic every morning, so you know, whether
we're going through a bad stretch, whether we're going through
a good stretch, he remains the same guy. I think
that's always good to see the consistency that he gives.
And then when he's out there putting in the work,
he he doesn't take anything for granted. He's always showing
up trying to do the most for us. As you know,
as we saw to day hidden sack fly that was
almost a homer. And then you know, throwing a guy
(19:46):
out a third the big you know, the big rallies.
You know, either he's got something to do with them
or he's helping continue.
Speaker 12 (19:51):
Them at play after learn the line, How does you
maintain your comclosure on that?
Speaker 8 (19:58):
Well, I knew the runner was pretty fast, and I
took a peak when I was running over and sous
Steer was at the bag. So I said, well, it's
either this or we hope it goes foul. And I said, well,
we might as well just try our luck here. It's
a big spot guys, guys moving down the line. So
I just didn't think about it that much and just
picked it up and threw it and I was hoping
that it was decent enough to catch and get them out,
and luckily that happened.
Speaker 11 (20:20):
The game like this, Are you ever think going into
ag like this? Are you ever thinking what's at stake?
The significance of what would win as strong to.
Speaker 8 (20:28):
Start with me, Yeah, I mean we the last two games,
our last two series at home have been really tough opponents,
So I think that gives us confidence knowing that we
can hang with the best of them in the National League,
for instance with the Phillies and now the Brewers.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
And plus they were playing really well too.
Speaker 8 (20:41):
We knew what we're going to get with a series
like this, and I think it was a good, you know,
a good test, and you know, unfortunately we came up
short in the first two games, but you know, we
were in them all the way until the end.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
So you know, I speaks volumes. We just have to
clean it up a.
Speaker 8 (20:53):
Little bit around edges and then just continue, put the
foot down and go to work.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Does Andrew Abbit after the big win yesterday, talked about
Jose True who kind of took over the game yesterday,
had the sacrifice fly, RBI, had the game tying hit
in the bottom of the ninth, caught a runner stealing
second base, had a great defensive play to For for
whatever reason, the Brewers decided to bunt in the tenth inning,
which might just be indicative of how little they think
(21:17):
of the Reds offense, but they bunted in the tenth
inning and Trevino cumed him down over at third base.
And you know this, We're in a situation now where
Tyler Stevenson is dealing with a bit of a thumb
injury that's been bothering him for a little bit. Trevino
might play a little bit more often. And when you
talk about guys that can be leaders, guys that have
(21:40):
been here, done that, this dude played in the World
Series last year. Defensively, he's one of the best catchers
in baseball. Though he hasn't been great at throwing runners
out this year, he did in a big moment yesterday.
He had a big sacrifice fly. He had a big
game tying hit. He's the type of guy that the
Reds really neat, the veteran leader that holds them to
(22:04):
a standard and can lead by example when he's on
the field. And I wonder if we'll see more of Travino,
not just because Stevenson is hurt or banged up or
day to day as he's officially listed, but also because
he can be the steady hand in the midst of
the chaos of a playoff run and I wonder if
(22:24):
Terry Francona will recognize that or see it that way
as well, and decide to go with Travino a little
bit more frequently, especially uh maybe later in games. With
what's going on with this Red's bullpen. Let's go to
the phones. Five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty
is the phone number. We start in Mount Healthy. We
talk to Rodney, Rodney, what's going on?
Speaker 13 (22:46):
What's going on? Austin? Man, You're way too negative.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Man, That's what everybody keeps telling me. Why am I?
Speaker 6 (22:54):
What do you mean, Melissa?
Speaker 13 (22:57):
You just man? We're you realize we're we are relevant
in the middle of August.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
This is not this is not a relevant ball club
at all.
Speaker 13 (23:08):
We are very relevant.
Speaker 14 (23:09):
What we'd beat, we'd beat top teams, we'd beat Philly,
we'd be series of Philly, Cubs, Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Nobody is talking about the Reds. Nobody and we got and.
Speaker 15 (23:20):
We have some of the best pitching in the league. Dude,
Come on, man, did you see our pitching this weekend?
Speaker 13 (23:27):
Last two games? And then you talk about Lodolo, We
talk about Hunter Green, talk about Abbot putting me in
a series with the best team in the National League.
Speaker 16 (23:38):
I take my chances, dude.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
I mean, I get it. If you're able to do that,
like a playoff run. When you get in the playoffs,
maybe you got green Lodolo Abbot, I mean, I hear
where you're coming from. From there, but none of that
really matters if you don't get into the playoffs when
I talk about when you talk about pitching, what I
saw this weekend was Emelio Pagan blowed two saves and
Nick Martinez getting roughed up.
Speaker 14 (24:00):
But look what got us there.
Speaker 13 (24:01):
At least we got there.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Some teams can't even get there get where.
Speaker 15 (24:05):
We got to the knife inning with a with a
one run.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Need Rodney team. But they lost the game, and they
blew the lead in both of those games.
Speaker 15 (24:17):
But we were in the game.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
That doesn't matter, Rodney. If you lose a game, it
doesn't matter if you were in the game. That's the
mentality that has to stop around me. It doesn't matter
if you're in the game. It matters if you win
the game, Rodney, and more often than not lose those games.
Speaker 14 (24:34):
Competitive with the best team in baseball.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
I don't care about competitive, Rodney, I care about winning.
They've beat us thirteen straight series.
Speaker 14 (24:42):
And.
Speaker 16 (24:44):
We gotta believe that they can turn it around.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
What is belief going to do for us? What's belief
gonna do? How How is me believing or you believing
gonna affect the ball club?
Speaker 14 (24:53):
What is disbelief going to do for you?
Speaker 6 (24:55):
Exactly?
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Neither one of them do anything. They're meaningless.
Speaker 17 (24:58):
What would you choose to when you can choose to
believe in?
Speaker 15 (25:01):
We gotta team this relevant?
Speaker 13 (25:03):
Dude?
Speaker 3 (25:04):
We are you? What makes you? What's your definition of relevant?
Because the Reds are are not thought of at all
on the national scale.
Speaker 15 (25:13):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 16 (25:14):
We're we're one and a half games out of playoffs.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (25:18):
Which you mean is I don't care what the rest
of the league thinks if we make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Well, you keep bringing up relevance and they're not relevant.
So they're in.
Speaker 16 (25:26):
The playoff race.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Relevant means they're in the playoffs. Okay. So that's your definition,
is that they're in the playoff race.
Speaker 7 (25:33):
Relevant?
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Yeah, Okay, Pittsburgh is irrelevant. The other teams not relevant.
We we got we got something to least hope for.
You know, Pittsburgh want a playoff series more recently than
the Reds have who the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Speaker 18 (25:49):
Come on, are you serious?
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Yeah, that's a that's a fact.
Speaker 13 (25:52):
You're gonna you're gonna you're gonna compare to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
Yeah, man, much better than Pittsburgh this year.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Yeah, sure maybe, but relevant it entirely different story.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
I'll take our pitching and give it a chance.
Speaker 13 (26:07):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Okay, Like, listen, I want to believe, but they haven't
given me enough reasons to believe.
Speaker 13 (26:14):
But but you're too negative.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Why am I being negative? Or am I being honest
that you?
Speaker 16 (26:20):
Like you said, like you said where they wanted to
get the game yesterday?
Speaker 15 (26:24):
But why why are there? But hey, Robbie.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
You just did the same thing. You said they lost
the game, but they were in it on Saturday. So
we're doing the same thing here.
Speaker 15 (26:35):
Positive because I think they I think they have a chance.
Speaker 6 (26:38):
I know they have.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
I can appreciate your positivity, but positivity doesn't always equal
an outcome that we're all looking for. Negativity doesn't always
equal an outcome that we're all looking for. I'm just
being honest. I don't think this team's good enough. What
makes you think they are?
Speaker 13 (26:57):
Because they got good pitch in Austin Okay.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Well, Lodolo's hurt again, and then Greens made one start.
How can we trust him?
Speaker 15 (27:06):
And they were beating the best team in the in
the league in the Knife inning Man.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
And they blew the lead. They blew They blew leads
in all three games. That's the point, Rodney. They aren't
good enough.
Speaker 15 (27:18):
But the key is the key is they had the
chance to win.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
You're missing it, Rodney. Thank you for the phone call.
This is the mentality that drives me nuts. It has
to be more than oh, we're close, we might win,
Oh we play hard. Who gives a damn win games?
Speaker 6 (27:40):
Take it?
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Be the aggressor. I don't get national relevance. This team
is not relevant. They haven't played on Sunday Night Baseball
in thirteen years. They haven't won a playoff series in
thirty This organization is not relevant. Yeah, they're in the
(28:02):
playoff hunt. That's good. I'm glad they are. And it's
the reason we're talking about them for the first hour
of this show on a day that the Bengals play
a preseason game. Yes, I get it, but this weekend
made me feel worse about their prospects moving forward than
(28:24):
it made me feel better. Now, not that my belief
or my opinion is the end all be all, because
clearly Rodney feels the opposite. He looks at it and says, Okay,
we went toe to toe with one of the best
teams in baseball. I feel better about it. That's cool,
and I can appreciate that. However, I care about results.
(28:47):
Results are the only thing that matters in this business.
It is whether you win or whether you lose. It
does not matter if you play hard. It does not
matter if you look cool. It does matter if you're tough.
It does not matter if you have style points. It
does not matter all that crap, if you're close, if
(29:08):
you're in it, whatever it is. What matters is winning games.
And the Reds had an opportunity to sweep the best
team in baseball this weekend at home, and they soiled
themselves in back to back games and did it in
the third game, but got lucky enough because the Brewers
(29:30):
are dumb in the top of the tenth and because
they finally got good hitting to get up off the
mat and survive that last game without getting swept. But
they blew three leads. Your clothes are blue. Two saves
in a row, you had a seven run lead, you
blew in the first three innings of the game. It's
(29:51):
about results. It's not about closeness, it's not about relevance.
It's about results. And this team has failed when opportunity
has been presented with them. I don't care if they're
five games over five hundred, if they're not in the playoffs,
because the playoffs are what matters. Results are what matters.
(30:16):
More phone calls. Next ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 6 (30:18):
Thirty is preseason football.
Speaker 19 (30:21):
Will Joe Burrow and the Bengals be ready to roar
against Jayton Daniels and the Commanders on Monday Night Football.
It's a pig skin power struggle. Get the call live
from Dan Hood and Dave Lapham. Coverage begins today at
six thirty pm. Stream for free on the new and
improved iHeartRadio app or ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home
(30:42):
of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
In fifteen thirty, Welcome back. Since he three to sixty.
ESPN fifteen thirty, Let's continue with your phone calls. Five
on three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty is the phone number.
Let's go to Virginia. Let's talk to Jeff going on,
Jeff happy.
Speaker 16 (31:02):
Monday, Austin the shows off to a rock and start, already.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Trying to bring a little bit of juice today. Jeff,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
That's good.
Speaker 16 (31:09):
I'm just checking the traffic right now for when I
can plan my hopefully not hellish trip around the Beltway
to get to that stadium today.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Yeah, how long of a trip is that for you
to get over there?
Speaker 6 (31:19):
It all just depends on traffic.
Speaker 16 (31:21):
I mean, with absolutely zero traffic, it would be thirty
five minutes. It could be as much as two hours
depending on what's going on.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
So how far is the RFK site from you?
Speaker 15 (31:35):
Well, RFK.
Speaker 16 (31:36):
I would take the metro too. You can ride the
subway to RFK and it's so easy. You get off
the subway, right turn, right turn, and you're right there.
You know, it was great, It was so great many
concerts and few Redskins games back in the day.
Speaker 14 (31:51):
But the rf the RFK side is just perfect.
Speaker 16 (31:54):
So just real quickly on Trey, Let's everybody remember this
is coming from his agent. The Bengals aren't saying a
word of this stuff. It's all just stirring the pot.
There is zero, absolutely zero chance that he misses one
eight hundred and seventy thousand dollars team, and it's just
not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Now, especially after the five hundred thousand dollars he already
got fined. He'd be out a million total over.
Speaker 16 (32:20):
Yeah, correct, correct, He has a better half who's probably
not too thrilled about that, I would guess. So now back,
let's go back to Rodney and onto the Reds. Great
to see everybody Saturday night. I hope Tony got a
shower when he got home since it was so frigging
hot out there. But the thing that got to me
was when Ellie threw that ball away in the ninth inning.
(32:41):
I think I looked at you from across the way
and just kind of expression list and there wasn't even
a groan. There were a lot of people there still
at that point in time. There wasn't even like a
big groan out of the crowd. It was more like
a collective shrug of the shoulders. Oh, we knew that
was going to happen, you know. And that that's where
it seems to me. You know, I'm watching from a distance.
(33:01):
You guys are there every day. But I was kind
of I was thinking about that when I was. When
I was walking out, I was like, Wow, people didn't
really care. Maybe they did, and they just didn't show
it that Ellie threw that ball away because he was
simply trying to throw it too hard or whatever he
was trying to do with that play. And then you know,
eighth inning Saturday Night walked the first two batters, ninth
(33:23):
inning Sunday walked the guy on four pitches. It just
you know, they they pulled it out of their rear
end yesterday. And I'm really happy they did.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
I think the unfortunate reality, Jeff, is that for so
many people, losing has become the expectation for the Reds
and and that is just not a world I want
to live in. But and it's you know, there's there's
apathy Involver. It's like, uh, they screwed it up again.
Speaker 16 (33:51):
Yeah, And you know, it's just the the repetition of
the low baseball IQ. And again I'm just watching from
a distance, and you and Tony and I've talked about
this a million times. They do stuff that if you
were in high school, you'd be on the bench for
two days after you did that type of thing. So look,
we got the Brewers going up against the Cubs for five.
(34:12):
I don't even know who the Mets are playing because
I don't really care. Unless the Red Star winning, it doesn't.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
Make any difference.
Speaker 16 (34:17):
So let's see how the West Coast treats us and
move ahead. It doesn't look like it's going to rain
as of right now, so I'm not too worried about
Joe playing on that field, but hopefully not more than
a series or two.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Yep, I believe that's the plan. Jeff, thank you for
the phone calls. Good see this weekend man. Yep, Yeah,
that is a Jeff in Virginia. Yeah, Tony from all
from I was there at Oakley Greens on Saturday. Seemed
to be a huge success in raising some money for
his nephew Roman, and I'm sure he'll have more information
than he wants to share, whether that's here on Quick
(34:52):
Hits or later on in their show this afternoon. But
it was a fun time. Got to see a bunch
of people, met some listeners, really really enjoyed it. So yeah,
happy about that. Let's go to Mike in LA. What's up, Mike.
Speaker 14 (35:05):
Hey, I'm at the hospital and so it's a little loud.
I'm sorry, is it so loud?
Speaker 3 (35:11):
No, you're fine.
Speaker 14 (35:14):
Yeah, there's Rodney Cat. It reminds me of the guy
that called you yesterday to wind out the close game shows. Hey, Rodney,
you're the kind of fan that Bob Castellini loves because
you know you love moral victories. Well, guess what I know,
and most people know, all victories gets you nothing, And
(35:39):
pretty much all I can say about that. The one
differential is slightly screwed Steed.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Yep, because of.
Speaker 14 (35:46):
That game they screwed twenty four months.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Yeah they have. They've scored fourteen twice and twenty four
to one, so it is a little skewed.
Speaker 6 (35:53):
You're right.
Speaker 14 (35:55):
Yeah, that'll that'll, that'll think a little bit. My team
got lucky to see again swept the Padres. But Kershaw's
back now, he's seven to two and he's pitching like
he used to pitch. Yeah, but he's had the whole
season to rest, so we'll see if so, if they
can keep that up. I'm really worried. Now. The Mets
was so bad for that whole month that they're due
(36:15):
by laws and probability, they're due to win in some games.
And you go out to Seattle, a team that's really
in the thick of it can take two out of three.
That's the dangerous sign, right Austin.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Yeah, I'm right there with you, because you know, just
eventually they'll kind of return to at least the mid level.
They were at the high level, then they're at the
low level. I would assume they'll balance out somewhere in
the middle.
Speaker 14 (36:37):
When lind Or, when Linder hit lind Or hit, he
broke his toe or Herd his toe. It really put
a damper on them and affected the whole team. But
they're back now pretty strong football question will quip the
comical do you know if the Commando's I don't call
him the commander, they call him the commandos? Do you
know if they're going to play a lot of starters
(36:58):
tonight or the bank? What's up with both teams as
far as that goes.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
I think their plan is similar to what the Bengals
did last week against Philadelphia, So I do know Jayden
Daniels is going to play tonight, but it's not going
to be a lot, So I think their starters for
one or two series. Maybe.
Speaker 14 (37:17):
I heard Gerald McCoy interviewed by Dan Patrick this point
I don't remember Gerald McCoy. He was a six time
Pro Bowl at Tampa. Great from Oklahoma, great defensive tackers, right,
and he said he think Henderson's gone. They're going to
trade him. That's what that's his feeling about. You know,
his experience over the years. You think he thinks they'll
(37:38):
trade Henderson. So they were just talking about who they
made trading to. You got any inclination on that.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Yeah, I know that the Panthers, the Browns, and the
Colts have all expressed interest. I wouldn't see them trading
them to the Browns. I think the Patriots are a
team that makes a little bit more sense. Their GM.
Elliott Woolf said, I think earlier today that they wouldn't
be a right to move on from a first or
second round pick in order to get a game changing
type of player. So those teams make sense to me.
(38:07):
But I would still be surprised if the Bengals move
on from him.
Speaker 14 (38:11):
Yeah, it just I don't I wouldn't understan because that
would kill this team. Wasn't that awesome? I mean, this
would really kill our defense. It would.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yeah, I'm gonna talk about it a little bit later on,
but you know, two weeks ago to a month. A
month ago, I would have said the Bengals can make
the playoffs without Trey Hendrickson. But now, after watching training
camp and preseason and whatnot, I look at him and say,
I don't think they can make the playoffs without him.
And so for that reason alone, you got to pony
up and get the guy on the field.
Speaker 14 (38:41):
Yeah. Sorry, change the subject, but I'll look forward to
listening to your opinion on that. Thank you all.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Yeah, Mike, thank you for the phone call. I appreciate it,
and it's kind of what it comes down to for me,
and you know, we'll talk to Paul about it. And
Paul said over the weekend absolutely nothing has changed except
that this is now when it's coming out. And Jeff
kind of a lit it too. And I think there's
something to that. The Bengals are about to play on
national television tonight on Monday Night Football, and two days
(39:08):
before that this report comes out. I don't think that's
a coincidence. Let's go to Aaron in Dayton. What's upon Aaron?
What's going on?
Speaker 13 (39:18):
Body?
Speaker 20 (39:19):
What it seven?
Speaker 3 (39:20):
What's going on?
Speaker 10 (39:21):
Dude?
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Where are you at right now? It's loud there dude.
Speaker 21 (39:26):
Yeah, listen, I got where I'm taking care of some
warblers out here.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
That's on your mind.
Speaker 21 (39:33):
Listen, general, I would say I would agree with you.
I think a major point as to like why a
guy like Rodney is kind of pumped up, right, is
we have great pitching. Uh, we haven't been relevant my
entire thirty six years of existence, right, and like we're
a game and a half back. And I think that's
a valid reason for why guys like Rodney are kind
(39:57):
of pumped up, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Yeah, just because you haven't really had a chance to
experience experience it all that much, is what you're saying.
Speaker 21 (40:05):
Sure, yeah, I would imagine that you can kind of relate.
I know you're a little bit younger than me, so
like you you know exactly what I'm talking about. How
we YEA have just been absolute sheep our entire life,
and you know, we're a game and a half back,
so it's kind of exciting, But that's not an excuse
for how incompetent this organization has been for the last
(40:28):
thirty years.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Yeah, you know what I mean, I know exactly what
you mean.
Speaker 22 (40:32):
Yeah, So I get you.
Speaker 21 (40:34):
I get your side of being honest, and I get
Rodney's side of maybe you're being a little too hard
on him, right, I think there's a fine line, and
I just don't know how we deal with something like that.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
You know, Yeah, that's that's a good point. Aaron and MAVs.
Thank you for the phone call. I appreciate it, and
let me take a break and come back and kind
of finish up with my thoughts before we get to
Richard Skinner, because I do think there's something to what
he said, and I do think it goes two different ways,
the way I have felt and the way Rodney has felt,
(41:08):
and ultimately the responsibility of a fan. What I feel
like the responsibility of a fan is. Let's talk about that.
Next ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 6 (41:17):
Still see Kate.
Speaker 10 (41:18):
What's going on in baseball?
Speaker 12 (41:20):
Getting ESPN is fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Welcome back since E three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Just a couple of minutes before we hit the brake
and come back talking to Richard Skinner from Local twelve.
We'll ask him about the Reds, how should Red's fans
feel after this weekend. We'll also ask him about the
Bengals big game tonight preseason game number two, final tune
(41:47):
up for the Bengals starters expected to come tonight against
the Commanders. But to kind of go back to that
previous conversation, and you know, our call of Rodney being
excited and happy and thrilled about where the Reds are at,
I can understand it, and our guy MAVs and seven
kind of trying to bring the point to the table
(42:10):
that Reds fans maybe aren't used to winning or being
in the hunt, and so now they want to appreciate
that and celebrate that and enjoy that. And I hear
that point that being said. If you go back over
just the last five seasons. In twenty twenty they were
(42:31):
in the hunt and they found a way into the playoffs.
In twenty twenty one, they were in the hunt and
they completely fell apart down the stretch. In twenty twenty two,
that was a terrible season. In twenty twenty three, they
were in the hunt, did nothing and fell apart over
the last week of the season. In twenty twenty four,
(42:54):
they were in the hunt and fell apart after the
All Star break. So my point is Reds fans should
not be surprised like this is nothing new. Being in
the hunt is nothing new over the last few years,
but the results have always been the same. And so
(43:16):
while I understand that being a fan and fan is
short for the word fanatic, which is loyalty and support
towards a team and an organization, I get that. It
has always been my belief though, that it is the
job of a fan to hold an organization accountable, the
(43:37):
organization that you spend your time and your money, and
your effort and your energy with. I've always believed that
it is a fans job to hold that organization and
those people accountable to a standard of winning. And I
certainly feel that way about the Reds, an organization rich
in baseball history, with some of the greatest players and
(43:58):
people that have ever been a part of baseball involved
in this franchise, with the Big Red Machine, with the
birthplace of professional baseball, with the Wire to wire Reds,
with the great great players that have been here over
the years, I believe that it is a fans job
to demand that level a championship standard and to hold
(44:23):
an organization accountable. There's a lot of ways to be
a fan. There's right ways, there's wrong ways, there's no
right way or wrong way really to be a fan.
But I've always believed that that is a fan's duty
is to hold that organization to that standard. And I
fear that for so many years of losing over and
(44:43):
over and over again, that eventually that fire is going
to go out for Reds fans to where they do
become just the lovable losers, where they do become a
bit of a joke, where they slip even further into
national irrelevant, where nobody cares or thinks or respects the Reds,
(45:06):
and to where fans eventually don't worry about the results.
That is a place you cannot be. And I'm doing
my best with the platform that I have to keep
the light on so that fans understand that what we
have seen from this team and this organization is not acceptable.
(45:29):
There needs to be a higher standard of play, of
roster building, of everything, because Red's fans deserve better. We'll
talk to Richard Skinner next ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 23 (45:41):
Thirty, Cincinnati, Make us the number one pre set on

Speaker 6 (45:52):

Speaker 1 (45:55):
This is since the shirts since e three sixty about
Cincinnati from since sponsored in part by Cincy Shirts Cincy
Shirts all since.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
The All Day.
Speaker 1 (46:06):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station TiO.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
We welcome in our number two of since he three
sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty on Austin Elmore riding soloed today.
That's because from three to six thirty this afternoon, it'll
be Tony Pike alongside Ken Brew taking you up to
Bengals commanders tonight in the nation's capital. And I wanted
to talk to this guy because he knows a lot
(46:33):
about a lot. He's our friend Richard Skinner from Local twelve.
And Skinny, let me start with the Reds. Should Reds
fans feel better or worse about the ball club after
this weekend?
Speaker 15 (46:48):
I would say the same, because he only took the
one of three from them. You know, Nick Martiez handed
an eight to one lead on Friday night, cannot let
that melt away, and another defense didn't help him and
didn't helped the bullpen after that, and then Saturday, you know,
the the Joe, the source of experience maybe not to
see again. But I mean, I'll give him this, and
(47:09):
they've done this a few times this year, right, I mean,
Andrew had pitch is great one nothing in the ninth
You're thinking they are going to steal this, and suddenly
they're not, and suddenly they come back and win it.
And I think that was big for so many reasons,
especially because this nine game road trip coming up is
not going to be an easy one at the Angels,
at the Diamondbacks, at the Dodgers. But I do think
this team has some grit to it. I just don't
(47:31):
know how it strings together winning streets when it feels
like every time you take a step forward the starting
pitcher coming back Hunter Green, you take a step back
to another pitcher going out or having a rough outing,
and you need Nick Widolo back pitching the way he
was pitching. And you haven't gotten a ton of offense.
So you've got a little bit in the first couple
of games of this series. So I feel the same,
But I'm not sure sure that's an awful place to
(47:52):
be because you're slowly a game and a half behind
the Mets. Do all of what happened this weekend, You're
slowly a game and half behind him.
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Yeah, if you're Nick Crawl or Terry Franconna or whoever
it is making decisions down there, what do you do
with Matt McLean's great question.
Speaker 15 (48:06):
I'll be honest with you. I think you keep you
roll him back out there as the starter and let's
see what you got. Give him, give him every chance
to prove himself or not prove himself. I mean, he
kind of rided his ship a little bit and then
all of a sudden he's gone. And while you know,
there's been times he have hit this year, for sure.
I mean he's usually a pretty reliable defensive player and
(48:27):
at times a really good defensive player, certainly better than
Gavin Lust at second base. And that sure it helped
you on Friday Night.
Speaker 3 (48:33):
No, that is certainly the truth. What about same question,
Amelio Pegan is the closer. Do you think they'll change
the way that they're doing things right now?
Speaker 7 (48:43):
No?
Speaker 15 (48:43):
But I fear this between him and Tony Santion, it
feels like they pitched one hundred and thirty games between
them this year, and at what point does that start
to hit the brick wall? And I get it. I
mean if you're Terry Franconne in a tight hime and
you look down and you go, he's reliable, and he's reliable. Okay,
I'm gonna use you guys again. Uh And I do
understand that. But at some point that's gonna catch up
(49:05):
to you.
Speaker 16 (49:05):
And you know, maybe in.
Speaker 15 (49:07):
Some of these games, if you have a reliever going well,
whether it's an ashtraft, you can give you multi innings,
a suitor give you multi innings and you're up a
couple of three runs, or you know, down to a
point where you may not just let them finish it out.
Just don't even mess with one of those guys. There'll
be more so with the lead obviously those two guys.
Just you know, let it play out a couple of
times and give these guys a little bit of extra
rest because he's riding pretty hard, he's written them pretty
hard at this point, and there's still a lot of baseball.
Speaker 14 (49:28):
To be played.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
What did you make of the decision to DFA Jake Freeley?
Speaker 15 (49:35):
I mean, what was he giving you?
Speaker 16 (49:36):
Right?
Speaker 15 (49:38):
The problem is, what's the differential between him and Will Benson?
Other than maybe Bens at this point of his career
gives you more athleticism and a little bit more power,
but they're kind of the same guy. They're honestly for
a players. You know, it's a shame that Jake. I
think you did everything he could to to, you know,
be a serviceable player. He just isn't anymore. The power's gone,
(50:00):
you know, And that was kind of what he had.
He was a nice left handed power bat, especially against
right handed pitching. So yeah, I didn't see it coming,
but it shouldn't be shocking. And again, it's one of
those ones where you roll him out and you roll
Benson in and you hope Benson gets hot, but I
wouldn't expect that. I mean, it feels like it's one
four a player for the next.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
Talking to Richard Skinner Local twelve The Skinny Podcast, Well,
all of a sudden, we have more Trey hendrickson news
the Bengals, apparently listening to trade offers. Where did this
come from and why is it coming out now that
this has been happening for weeks.
Speaker 15 (50:35):
Well, I'm going to guess one of the two things. One
is Trey's camp is getting to that point of frustration
from a leverage standpoint, right and listen, I don't think
the Bengals, ever, didn't continue to listen to trade offers
for Trey Hendrickson. You know, the report now is they're
seeking a young defensive player, doesn't have to be alignment,
and at least the first round pick next year. And
I don't think that's I don't think that's unreasonable. I
(50:57):
hate strikes. That might even be selling it short, to
be honest with you, And I just don't know if
you're gonna find a bunch of trade partners. So for
Trey Austin, he's running out of leverage. I mean, you know,
you can say in May, I'm not gonna play on
this contract. You can hold out and then decide, oh crap,
I'm getting fined. I don't want to get fined, and
I better show up and they'll stop finding me in
it'll be a hold in. And so now you're at
that stage where a couple of weeks and a couple
(51:17):
of three weeks into the hold in, there hasn't been
a lot of progress. That doesn't sound like I mean,
it sounds like it's still stuck on the guaranteed money
portion of the program. But they've kind of, I guess,
come to at least a semi agreement on the average
annual value, but not only on the guarantees, and you know.
Speaker 14 (51:32):
Neither side budget.
Speaker 15 (51:33):
But I think this is kind of that last leverage
of you know, I gotta I gotta say something, do something,
put something out there to make it seem like there's
some activity in this regard, because you know, if there
is no trade offers, then it comes down to this,
does he swallow hard and take the Bengals offer on
the table?
Speaker 6 (51:51):
Does he say Nope, I'm not I've got my.
Speaker 15 (51:53):
My stance, And then the Bengals go back and say
what Mike Brown said at the media launching, I mean,
he's under contract for this year, and you know, I
know fans don't have to like that, but that's that's
the reality of it. And then Treys to make that
decision if it comes out of that, Am I really
gonna miss a game check or two or three or five?
And don't forget, he has to be on the active
roster for six games in order to accrue this year
(52:14):
towards free agency, and so if he only plays a
hands full of games he doesn't produce, you think he's
gonna get a pay dingy from another NFL team, it's
gonna go. Yeah, you know, I can remember what he
did in twenty three and twenty four, but in twenty
five he ended up turning thirty two at the end
of the year, and he only had two sacks in
the six games he played. And yeah, I'm not willing
to run out thirty five million dollars.
Speaker 16 (52:34):
For a guy like that.
Speaker 15 (52:35):
So I just I think he's reaching the end of
his rope. From a leverage standpoint, I do think. I
think I've stood by this for a lot. I think
on September second, the day after Labor Day, these two
sides will come to an agreement. I think Trey will
swallow hard, maybe take less than the guarantees. Maybe the
Bengals help him out and give him more in assigning
bonus if they can pro rate, put a bunch of
money in the last year of the contract, or a base salary,
(52:56):
and then you know, at that point, you go, okay,
if he's still produced in that final year, we'll pay
him that base salary. And if he's not well, then
you cut him, and you do. You don't have to,
you know, you don't have to pay him that money,
and you're out from under it. So and I think
that's probably the fair way to go. Do I think
Traders is gonna fault the map in two years?
Speaker 13 (53:12):
No?
Speaker 15 (53:12):
I don't. But if you'd have told me that the
twenty nineteen practicing Dateton where AJ Green stepped on the field,
that I'd never see the same Aj Green ever again, right,
I would have said, you're crazy, You're crazy. Well I
never did, Yeah, and so it happened.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Based off what you've seen at training camp and being
down there every day. Can the Bengals make the playoffs
without Trey Henderson?
Speaker 15 (53:35):
I honestly think they can do. I think they're a
better team without him. Probably not, No, I mean I'm
stupid if I say that, right, But Jamar Stewart shown flashes.
He hasn't done it in a regular season game. He's
only done it for a handful of snaps in a
preseason game, and it's a big fire if you go, Okay,
our leverage too, is this guy's playing well and maybe
(53:55):
that that's training the corner and Joseph besides had a
nice camp. The other part is, though Miles, if he's
had an okay camp and now he's hurt, and so
after that, the fall off at end is can you
even I don't. I'm not gonna produce last utter the
ends after the hatter, like Isaiah Thomas said, Johnson cam sample.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
Yeah, hurty Cedric Johnson's hurt.
Speaker 15 (54:16):
That's a pretty solid drop off at that point. So no,
they're clearly a better team with Trey Hendrickson. But again,
from a business standpoint, we're not just talking about this
season when it comes to this, I mean this season.
He is under contract, so technically you've got him for
this season and he should be playing for this season.
I get his stance. He wants long term solution financially
(54:37):
in the security that.
Speaker 6 (54:38):
I fully get that.
Speaker 15 (54:40):
But two years ago, nobody put a gun to your
head and said, hey man Sinning, you's thinking, dude, I mean,
you put yourself in the pickle. I'm sorry you did it,
but you did it.
Speaker 3 (54:47):
Yeah, I agree with you now based off what you
just said about the depth of the defensive line, which
is which group is in more trouble, the offensive line
or the defensive line, because it doesn't seem like there's
a lot of depth or reliability on either one of those.
Speaker 15 (55:04):
Yeah, I will. I think there's depth at the interior
tackle spots.
Speaker 24 (55:06):
I really do.
Speaker 15 (55:07):
I mean, don't forget. They haven't been to play with
b J. Hill at the moment.
Speaker 6 (55:10):
So b J.
Speaker 15 (55:10):
Hill would slide into the lineup alongside t. J. Slayton,
and that puts Chris Jenkins's had a nice camp in
a backup role and McKinley Jackson obviously in a backup
roles and nose tackle. And honestly, I'm not so sure
rookie underrated creationing Howard Cross doesn't make this team. He's
had a good camp too, and so that I think
their depth is fine in the interior right now. On
the outside is where the issue is. I mean again,
the other day, I'm watching them watching the ones or
(55:32):
the twos line up, and I'm like, wait a minute,
fifty one is Oh, that's that's right, that's Isaiah Thomas. Okay,
that's where we're at right now. But the offensive line
at the moment, it seems like the right guard battle
is done, maybe by default. You know, this past week,
I really thought Cody Ford would get some reps and
get a chance to maybe start this game at right guard.
But then Orlando Brown missed the practice and so he
(55:55):
played left tackle with the ones, and then R Marius
Men has missed a good chunk of a practice and
he played right tackle with the Ones, and that's probably
his best suited role is to be that back of
all trade. So I feel good about Cody in a
backup role. Whe I feel good about Cody starting seventeen games. No,
probably not, but he's more than service of the last year.
You know, right now, I don't know who the backup
center is. I don't know who the depth is at guard.
(56:17):
Kodo Wolson is gonna be hurt or is hurt? Is
gonna be out for a bit? You know, Jalen Rivers
has had his moments. They just moved him back to
guard after he played some tackle and he seems to
have settled in a little bit. But I mean that's
a rookie now. I mean, you already got one rookie starting,
and that's all well and good because I think Dylan
Chirchild's more than held his own em played well. But
then you're gonna have to have another rookie be, you know,
(56:37):
potentially one of your backups. I mean, how about a game?
And I don't want this to happen up, so I
don't want to talk it to a power where one
of your tackles gets hurt, Cody has to go in
and play, one of the guards gets hurt, and Jalen
Rivers has to go in play. I mean, that's a
that's a tough spot at the moment. So yeah, the
depth there is is shaky at the moment for sure.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
As far as tonight's game is concerned, what are you
most intrigued by?
Speaker 6 (56:57):
For the Bengals.
Speaker 15 (57:00):
I want to see Shamar Stewart playing against the ones.
I want to see what that looks like when he's
playing alongside the ones and playing against some ones. I
know Washington's not playing all their stars, but they're playing,
you know, it sounds like a decent amount of them,
So I want to see what that looks like. I
want to see what Lucas Patrick looks like in the
second game. I know he had some ugly reps, but
you know, and I wasn't exactly expecting Zach to roll
him under the bus. And I said the other day,
(57:20):
you know, how did you think Dylan and Lucas came
out of the first game? And he said, well, they
scored two touchdowns when they were in there, and that
is true, So you know, the proof is in that
putting and listen, you know that there were some ugly
reps from Lucas Patrick, so I'd like to see that
be a little more clean to where you go. Okay,
as long as it's an improvement over Alex Kappa, it's
not going to be Pro Bowl caliber. I mean, it's
(57:43):
just not going to be. But if it's an improvement
over Kapa, that's kind of all you're looking for. Right
He'd like to be maybe a little better than that,
but that's that's a pretty good place to be. And
in the safety spot, I think Tyson Anderson will get
the run with the ones tonight. Maybe Dejon Anthony gets
a series with them as well, with Geno Stone being out,
and let's see if they can hold their own there,
(58:03):
because right now, your depth pieces at safety are those
two guys who combined for eleven career defensive snaps in
the NFL. I think they both had good camps at times,
Tyson I think a little more so than Djon, but
I think they both had good camps. But you know,
when you can't tackle right, so you don't know why
are they gonna be able to come downhill and tackle
the way you want them? To tackle in the run game.
You know, seeing a couple of times when they flash
(58:24):
across where it looks like they could blow up a
wide receiver, But you're not gonna blow up a teammate
in a in a you know, a practice setting. So
I want to see what that looks like tonight, when
you know there's real tackling that goes on and they
have to have to come downhill and make a stop
in the run game or come across and break up
a pass and show some range. Because as we see,
I mean, you know, Stone, he's gonna be back in
time for the open. He was back at practice for
a couple of days this week. Didn't do any team stuff,
(58:47):
but he was dressed and did some individual drill. So
that's a good sign. But all of a sudden, you
see how fragile that depth is. Right, Like, all of
a sudden, you look up and Geno's not plasticing for
a week. And it's two guys who played a love
of defensive snaps in their career the stafety spot.
Speaker 19 (58:59):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Before I let you go, skinny, it was announced this
morning that an Arena Football League team is coming to
Northern Kentucky. How big of a pand did you play
in this? I know you're a big arena league guy,
you know. And in the last time Arena Football League
was in Northern Kentucky, Jared Lorenzo and the hefty Lefty
was the quarterback. Should the Kentucky Barrels reach out to
Tony Pike and see about signing the mighty righty? What
(59:21):
do you think?
Speaker 15 (59:22):
Yeah? How that suit boe of his doing these days?
He's throwing I know he's working kids out, you know,
maybe maybe he's got some new life in that arm.
And obviously a local name. I think that would be
awesome to see it was a man. One of the
first beats I covered when I worked at the Cincinnati
Post in the early nineties it was the Rockers with
Archley S quarterback, and I really thoroughly enjoyed that. I
(59:45):
enjoyed that league. But then it feels like every other
team that's come through here in an indoor football capacity,
it hasn't lasted long. We've had the Swarm and the
Commandos and the River Monsters and crap, the team that
Sam Adams and King Grissey Junior were part of, I'm
going a complete blank on that. At the moment, I
(01:00:05):
wish them well, but it just doesn't seem like there's
an appetite in this market for that. I believe the
season starts in mid March when there's a certain big
basketball tournament going on a bathroom, local teams involved in it.
And then suddenly, a couple of weeks later, a certain
you know, Major League baseball franchise starts, and oh, by
the way, there's also a pretty good professional soccer franchise.
It's being playing at six matches at that point in time.
(01:00:26):
That's a lot in the market, man.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Yeah, uh, yeah, it is.
Speaker 7 (01:00:30):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
I had a position coach of mine when I was
in high school that played at Ohio State with Art Schleister,
and he said to us one day that there's a
lot of Art Schleister stories out there, and they're all true.
Speaker 6 (01:00:43):
They are all true.
Speaker 15 (01:00:45):
They are little true. One once that almost cost me
some money. I mean, I somehow got my money back.
I don't know how this date to this day. I
did get my money back, but I got my money
back from him in cash in tens and twenties. I'll
just believe that I got my cash back from him,
and it was a significant amount that he scammed me
out of I got it back in tens and twenties,
but I got it. I feel for whoever else he
scammed to give me my money back, but I got
(01:01:06):
mine back.
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
That is unbelievable, Skinny, Thank you so much. Tell people
how they can follow along to all your coverage, the
podcast and more.
Speaker 15 (01:01:16):
Yep, Actually, j Andre Yellis and I have a daily
podcast from Lengals training Camp on YouTube also on Local
twelve dot com. My podcast weekly with Rick Brooring drops
either Wednesdays or Thursdays. You go to Local twelve dot com,
slash sports or on the x verst at Local twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
Skinny, Wait a minute, I forgot about this. Rick Browing
is eating Taco bell every day the month of August.
I mean, what's going on with that? Yeah, Like, are you, like,
are you able to be around him when that stuff
is happening or could you do something like that?
Speaker 25 (01:01:47):
Could?
Speaker 15 (01:01:47):
I probably would? I probably not. I mean Rick seems
he likes the variety of it.
Speaker 6 (01:01:56):
You know.
Speaker 15 (01:01:56):
I don't know if I can find enough menu items
variety wise for me, because I'm always just a bunchy
taco guy. That's the other things I can eat off
that menu, but I couldn't do crunchy tacos for thirty
straight days. But he has contents. As of last week,
he had actually lost almost two full pack on this
Taco Bell.
Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
Dill I was gonna say, I told him, I said,
you have directly you are an influencer because I have
been craving Taco Bell every day because I see his
videos every day. So his influencer life is working.
Speaker 15 (01:02:26):
I hope he's drinking protein shakes and taking some vitamin
something that's with that, because you gotta have something to
help yourself in just Taco Bell.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
I saw the Sharman stock prices skyrocketed since the month
of August, so uh wond Skinny, thank you so much
for your time, man, see you later. It is Richard
Skinner Local twelve at Local twelve, Skinny, always a fun time.
I didn't know about the Archleister stuff. I need to
talk to Skinny off the air. Oh man, Yeah, my

by our good friends at Cincy Shirts. No better way
to get geared up for the fall football season and
the playoff run in baseball than with our good friends
at Cincy Shirts. Let's get started.
Speaker 27 (01:04:55):
Tony Pike, bear Cat, Boring bred Hey, Joe Happer, the
Red Pope.
Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
The bad Man. Ain't that the truth?
Speaker 6 (01:05:04):
What's up town?
Speaker 27 (01:05:05):
What's up addie man? This Trade Henderson thing continues to
be one absolute mess. They didn't get something done, I mean,
trade them extending do something. This is getting old, but
I guess you can quote Ronnie ron on this and
say it is what it is.
Speaker 19 (01:05:21):
Bengals.
Speaker 27 (01:05:22):
I just want to see him get out of their
healthy because I take care of guys and who.
Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
They are all right there with you. Just get out
of this game healthy tonight. And I don't anticipate much
going on with the Henderson thing. I just don't. I
don't think it ends.
Speaker 28 (01:05:35):
So guys, Victor Hone in Kentucky, all right, man, don't
agree with me? Want it blames management on the trade
Henderson situation. I was listening to the Jungle Theater pod
last night and they said that they blame management.
Speaker 11 (01:05:46):
I just disagree.
Speaker 28 (01:05:47):
I think they gave him an opportunity to trade in
at the draft and nobody wanted him. Because nobody wants
that second year guaranteed, and the Bengals don't, They're gonna
try to trade now. Nobody wants him that he needs
to play for a seven date or retire. They just
don't wanting for the second year. He's not what he
thinks he is.
Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
Yeah, if you've listened to this show at all, we
certainly have not blamed Bengals management. Now. I think there's
some things they could do differently, and I do think
they're kind of at a point now where I think
they should just do it. But I don't think this
the root cause of this issue is the Bengals front office.
Speaker 6 (01:06:24):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
Tony and Austin.
Speaker 29 (01:06:26):
It's Adam and Mount Adams happy money to talkbackers. Thought
the Reds played pretty well. He just can't commit six
aers in two games and expect to win. Still avoid
the sweep, ended their winning streak big West Coast trip,
Gotta start off with a win tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
A bit of a.
Speaker 29 (01:06:40):
Hot take, but I think our best players out in
right field, he's been incredible. Agree went out there with
without complaining. He's been great to play it. He's got
a cannon for an arm. He's been good in the
sixth spot. But I think it's time we move him up.
Speaker 3 (01:06:54):
I agree with you one hundred percent. My hottest of
hot takes is that noelbe Marte has a higher ceiling
than Ellie Daily Cruz A quick double dip.
Speaker 29 (01:07:01):
But how about the Orange and Blue a huge tend
to take over the supporter shield lead with seven matches left.
Shout out to our supporters that made it out to Portland.
That was that was cool to see. And how about Evander.
I can't recall more like I'm him moment in Cincinnati
sports than scoring a long distance, highlight reel goal in
front of your old friend fans who've been booing you
(01:07:21):
on every touch and you hit them with the I
can't hear you. It was cold as ice. Jim from Ross,
Where are you at?
Speaker 30 (01:07:28):
Evander?
Speaker 6 (01:07:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
Man, that was awesome. I did fail to mention that
at the beginning going out west getting a big three
points huge for FC Cincinnati.
Speaker 31 (01:07:40):
It's the Lord on a Monday? What up Doug the
Austin Tony I was wondering if you were doing any
hiring the lord's work isn't challenging it enough. And I
was just seeing if I could either work work full
time like Austin, omore part time like Tony Pike, or
quarter of the time and on remote like Mueggar.
Speaker 13 (01:08:02):
Let me know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:03):
Yeah, the lord's work, he said, is not challenging enough.
Speaker 5 (01:08:07):
Hey, fellas, it's Fenny Tony. I had to call in, man.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
You know, last time I called in.
Speaker 14 (01:08:11):
I didn't.
Speaker 24 (01:08:12):
I didn't cynthony enthusiasm from alton Y know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
I in the heck with it.
Speaker 32 (01:08:16):
But anyway, I'm back because yesterday Austin was whining and
crying about how the resident Alfo's entire life.
Speaker 11 (01:08:22):
Man.
Speaker 15 (01:08:23):
Well, Austin, does that make you like four years old?
Speaker 14 (01:08:25):
Man?
Speaker 16 (01:08:26):
But you forget about the COVID playoff rads man?
Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
And how about the res of your youth?
Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Man?
Speaker 22 (01:08:32):
What twenty ten, twenty eleven, twenty thirteen?
Speaker 6 (01:08:34):
What do we do?
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Twenty ten Reds got no hitting the playoffs and lost
twenty eleven they didn't make the playoffs twenty thirteen it
was the Quato game. Twenty twelve we all know what happened.
Speaker 6 (01:08:47):
There.
Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Had a huge lead in the NLDS and blew that
twenty twenty that got to the playoffs, did not score
a run, lost to Atlanta. Haven't been back since. I'm
not wrong. Brother might drive too.
Speaker 30 (01:09:01):
Boy can't be swelled. The ref got game. They've got
some rep and we'll carry it with us through the
final stress.
Speaker 8 (01:09:14):
Even if I'm Trouberviews have a ree.
Speaker 11 (01:09:20):
Devon rollers don't get swelled. Von Rullers don't swelled to
a head.
Speaker 19 (01:09:27):
Keep the season alive.
Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
Wow, I was touching tray still once more money. We've
heard the call.
Speaker 5 (01:09:40):
Al Kadie's dreadings.
Speaker 11 (01:09:41):
A ship him the Cleveland. If money's all he wants to.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Ball, we need quite a wall. Our front office got
some call.
Speaker 11 (01:09:55):
Seriously, we need Trey if we're gonna go for a
super Bowl this season.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
If not, we're gonna need a jentlemen player.
Speaker 33 (01:10:04):
Be stick newly minted Hall of Famer Tony Soda pop Pug, Congratulations.
Speaker 3 (01:10:18):
Sorry I haven't called to say so.
Speaker 6 (01:10:20):
But here we go.
Speaker 33 (01:10:22):
What is going on with Trey Hendrickson the Bengals? Why
is a half they come down to all this mess?
Let me know you guys have another best day ever.
Speaker 34 (01:10:34):
Thank you, Happy Monday, Tony and Austin Jim from Ross.
I'm asking you to check out the best little hot
sandwich shop. From my standpoint, I just ran into the
backfield serving up your favorite shredded meat sandwiches from the
backfield lineup roasted or grilled, piled high on locally famous
toasted o line buns. But hold on, they're topped with
(01:10:55):
mounds of melty Duke Kee's Swiss cheese.
Speaker 6 (01:10:57):
The backfield, easy and easy.
Speaker 34 (01:10:59):
Out, open all the time, never any waiting, never any lines.
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
That is incredible. Somebody open up the shop.
Speaker 6 (01:11:11):
Be sick. It's the mail man with the double dipper. Sorry,
was going to be on this show.
Speaker 21 (01:11:18):
Give him those well wishes, will you?
Speaker 6 (01:11:21):
You guys have another best day. Well.
Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
If I know Tony, I know he's listening right now
and he's appreciating your well wishes. Carl the line at
the loan shooting too. Hey Autie, Happy Monday. Hey, this
is the common talkback matters.
Speaker 9 (01:11:38):
I agree with so much that you're saying it's kind
of scary. We agree alive, but I honestly think that this.
I know we said this about when they went to Chicago,
but I honestly believe that this road.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Trip will be the tail to tay it. I believe
if they do well on the road trip, they'll do good.
Speaker 9 (01:11:55):
And what's stopping them from still going out and getting
somebody they are still contrayed do something.
Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
No, they can't. The trade deadline has come and gone.
Speaker 18 (01:12:06):
Bodie V MWG.
Speaker 6 (01:12:09):
I mean, I have a question for you today.
Speaker 18 (01:12:11):
Is it unrealistic to have the expectation of going into
a Bengals season where there aren't just gaping holes in
question marks?
Speaker 6 (01:12:23):
Is that just life in the NFL?
Speaker 24 (01:12:25):
Or is that just unrealistic expectations on my part thoughts.
Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
I don't know that there's any team right now that
feels like they are one hundred percent certain at every
single position, even the Philadelphia Eagles. I was reading this
morning about how the Eagles don't know what to do
with their second cornerback spot to the point where Cooper
dejene has been taking cornerback reps I should say, on
(01:12:52):
the outside for their cornerback number two. So that's an
area of concern. There are offensive line concerns across the league,
a defensive line concerns. The Colts just signed a cornerback
this morning. There were some trades over the weekend, guys
trying to beef up different positions and tight ends and
defensive tackles. So I do think part of it is
life in the NFL, where it's just hard to build
(01:13:15):
a team, and the other part of it is, unfortunately
for the Bengals, it does feel avoidable. Like even if
if they had signed one of those free agent guards,
you would still be a little bit worried about Lucas Patrick,
You'd still be a little bit worried about the depth,
You'd still be worried about Trey Henderson and the other
defensive pass rushers. You'd probably still be worried about safety.
(01:13:37):
So part of it is that the Bengals bring it
on themselves. Part of it is that it's not that
uncommon across the NFL.
Speaker 21 (01:13:49):
Audie, what up, brother, it's Mads and seven.
Speaker 13 (01:13:52):
Listen.
Speaker 21 (01:13:53):
I can tell you why people are excited and you
should be kind of hopeful that the Reds are semi
winning because for my entire thirty six years of existence.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Yeah, you already you said that, you were on the
air earlier you said this.
Speaker 35 (01:14:06):
I don't see your views on the Reds as being
negative at all. I see them as being realist. The
rest of this city is just full of Homers who
think everything is rainbows and butterflies, when in reality this
team needs help end the story.
Speaker 6 (01:14:20):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
I just try to be honest, man, That's really all
it is.
Speaker 36 (01:14:24):
Hello, this is former President Ronald Reagan, and what well.
The Reds should have swept the Brewers this weekend were
it not for those three blown seaves. Thankfully they salvaged
that one game last night, or else we would have
had to send in the National Guard just to settle
the Reds fans down. And by the way, the Reds
are about as relevant as cassette tapes, calling cards and
(01:14:46):
two dollars bills. It's time for them to change that narrative,
but they have not done so yet.
Speaker 11 (01:14:55):
Awesome.
Speaker 37 (01:14:56):
I want to commend you on that awesome, unbelievable modelogue
you gave Friday night after the Reds collapse, after the
eight to one lead against the Brewers. It was so
on point, And thank you for having the courage to
say all of it, because it was right on point.
Speaker 11 (01:15:10):
And I don't even get frustrated with the Reds anymore.
Speaker 6 (01:15:12):
They are who they are.
Speaker 11 (01:15:13):
They're just a circus of the franchise.
Speaker 37 (01:15:15):
I get frustrated with the fans in the city who
don't have the guts to say it, and they still
just keep making excuses for.
Speaker 11 (01:15:21):
Him year after year, week after week, month after month.
Speaker 6 (01:15:26):
Thank you, ohdie, Bill.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
In Westchester, the Reds looked so tight on Friday and Saturday.
It told me that the Brewers owned so much space
in their heads that they've got enough room to build
winter homes for the whole forty man roster, and they've
still got enough room left to sublet some to the pirates,
Like Francona's got to get them to play loose and
(01:15:49):
just do what they do and have fun.
Speaker 6 (01:15:51):
And not be so scared of the Brewers.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
Yeah, I think that's a good observation, Bill, And you know,
I felt like I was hoping that Friday was the
breakthrough when the damn kind of broke and they scored
those runs, because they looked like a team that was
so prepared and so focused in that second inning. But
the moment they got the big lead, you could see
(01:16:14):
them tighten up and they were afraid to make a mistake.
And that's not how you want to go against the
Milwaukee Brewers. That's not how you want to play against
any team like those at bats in the first two
innings against Milwaukee Friday were the best at bats I've
seen this team take all season long. They were fighting
off tough pitches, they were getting their pitch, they were
(01:16:34):
handling it. They were slapping the ball the other way.
They weren't trying to pull it, and they weren't trying
to hit the ball a thousand feet. They were just
taking what the pitcher gave them. They were waiting out
Jacob Mazeroski. They did a great job with d L.
Hall when he first came in, and then from that
moment on you could tell they tightened up. They didn't
get a hit the rest of the game, and they
slowly but surely screwed up. And you're exactly right.
Speaker 37 (01:16:59):
Bill, And then you got guys calling in, you know,
happy that the Reds didn't get swept, and if they
took one out of three when they really should have
swept them, swept the Brewers themselves, and instead they walk
away with one and lose their thirteen series in a
row to the Brewers. I mean, that's that's just what
the fans you are happy with. They'll continue to make
excuses for him. Then you gots guys saying, oh, we
(01:17:19):
do have a power here. We got Ellie I think,
got nineteen home runs and tied for fiftieth in the league.
Speaker 11 (01:17:24):
He's not a power here. And then you guys got
said we have a great farm system. This farm systems trash.
What are you talking about.
Speaker 24 (01:17:33):
I was eating a Jeff Ruby the other night when
I noticed mister Tom Brenneman enjoying a nice juicy filet
cooked to a perfect blue. I ever heard him telling
the waiter, you know, Dad has had our hard time
let go of broadcasting since retiring. He actually broadcasts games
from his basement on the Red subren So two n
in Saturday night.
Speaker 6 (01:17:49):
I thought, I play clip for you. Here's the pitch.
Speaker 24 (01:17:52):
It's on the ground, the flip to Aaron de la
Cruz gets one the throat of first and this one
is blown by the reds.
Speaker 10 (01:18:01):
Okay, hey, it's time from La Tonia.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
Hand'm worry about who they man.
Speaker 28 (01:18:07):
Imagine having one of the best offenses in the NFL,
and we still don't know who's gonna start on the
offensive line.
Speaker 15 (01:18:15):
Oh and by the way, we have no backups, guys,
go down screwed. Defense still need safeties and corners and
guys get hurt every other week or get burnt.
Speaker 17 (01:18:26):
What are we gonna do.
Speaker 10 (01:18:27):
Seasons about to start, Let's figure it out.
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
I'm right there with you, man, I'm right there with you.
Speaker 38 (01:18:35):
Hey, Rodie, it's Adam And you know, I'm kind of
wondering if maybe Joe Burrow didn't go to management and say,
look this Hendrickson thing. The guy's a jerk, he's a
cancer in the locker room. Let's let's get him out
of here, get him on the field. We're tired of
dealing with it. It's time for the season to start.
I mean, maybe Chase and Higgins got a little bit
(01:18:56):
of a slide because of the history and then being
both offensive guys. Do you think that's something that may
have happened.
Speaker 6 (01:19:03):
I do not.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
I don't think that Joe sees Trey Henderson as a
cancer to the team. I don't know that anyone really
sees him as a cancer to the team. I don't
think he is a cancer to the team. Joe and
him talking to the media tonight is going to have
an opportunity to do what he did before. He hasn't
really done that with Trey yet. I don't think anything
(01:19:26):
really has changed all that much. But I think it
was put out there by Trey's people that the Bengals
are still listening to trade offers to try to expedite
the process. I don't think Burrow said anything to management.
And if you remember earlier this year, Joe said he
doesn't want to be in that position, doesn't want to
be a guy who's having influence over those decisions. Now
(01:19:46):
maybe I think maybe we can all could wish sometimes
that he was, but he says he doesn't want to be.
Speaker 6 (01:19:52):
A part of that.
Speaker 10 (01:19:52):
Austin, hope you had a great weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
Thanks man.
Speaker 25 (01:19:54):
I left to talk back on Friday, saying that I'd
be okay with FC Cincinnati getting three points in Portland
and the Red's not getting.
Speaker 10 (01:20:00):
Swept at home.
Speaker 25 (01:20:01):
Sure enough, that's how it went down, the vander making
a case for MVP revenge game three goals in the
first half.
Speaker 10 (01:20:08):
They did a great job holding on with the Reds.
Speaker 25 (01:20:10):
I think the way that it went down Friday and
Saturday were demoralizing, So them coming back and getting a
clutch ninth inning run and walk off in the tenth
that's about.
Speaker 10 (01:20:19):
As good as you could have expected after the first two.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
Games fair enough.
Speaker 29 (01:20:24):
Hey Austin, why can't the NFL have salary arbitration like
baseball does.
Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
It's a good question, probably because nobody likes it.
Speaker 39 (01:20:32):
Hey, it's Shoe from Casey here. I'm excited to see
what our starting d can do tonight. Hopefully they step
up and don't look in at like last week. Also,
I do agree with your last guests you had on
that said our our detackled depth is good.
Speaker 6 (01:20:46):
I agree with that.
Speaker 39 (01:20:48):
I'd say the only thing we're missing are a couple
starting d tackles, but.
Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
Our twos and threes and rotational pieces are great. We're
hearing some good things about Chris Jenkins this year. We've
seen a little bit more. If you remember, he got
hurt right the started training camp last year, was dealing
with that thumb injury and had surgery. I'm curious to
see how he performs tonight. Awnie, what up?
Speaker 6 (01:21:08):
It's ice. You're mister ESPN.
Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
You're on now, You're gonna be on till two thirty
this morning.
Speaker 6 (01:21:12):
When do you sleep? By the way, shout out.
Speaker 11 (01:21:15):
To my man Richard's got a great interview with him.
Speaker 15 (01:21:18):
He's always an awesome interview on my podcast.
Speaker 6 (01:21:20):
Tonight.
Speaker 40 (01:21:22):
What does the right guard look like? My question is
the secondary? When I watch them from the bridge, they
look really good. Will that translate to tonight we got
some of the starters back, We'll find out. What's your thoughts?
Are we gonna be good or not?
Speaker 3 (01:21:37):
Yeah, I'm curious to see what it looks like with
Cam Taylor, Britt and Dax Hill on the field. They
are going to play tonight, and we do expect them
to play against Washington starters. Now, it's not gonna include
Terry McLaurin, who does have a big role in that
commander's offense. But you would think that the commanders wouldn't
easily get separation that this time around as easily as
(01:22:00):
they did last time.
Speaker 25 (01:22:01):
Ra Listen, Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about
the Reds losing thirteen straight series to Milwaukee.
Speaker 10 (01:22:07):
That's pathetic. That can't happen and it has to change.
Speaker 25 (01:22:10):
But with the context of how we lost Friday and Saturday,
coming back to when on Sunday did please me?
Speaker 10 (01:22:16):
Anyways?
Speaker 25 (01:22:16):
Moving on, Kentucky's getting a football team, basically the TIMU Bengals.
I'm very excited. May even get season tickets. What do
you think I'll dress up as a barrel to go
to the games.
Speaker 10 (01:22:27):
I can roll with that.
Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
I'm sure they'll I'm sure they would love that.
Speaker 41 (01:22:31):
Hey, Austin, Jeff and Ner Richmond happened to John day two. Yeah, Hey,
so I can understand where Rodney's coming from. My tend
to lean more on the side of Mike in la
and with what maths and seven was saying. You know,
I think you know, the Reds will always have those
(01:22:53):
fifteen thousand people that will show up no matter what.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
Yeah, I mean, there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 6 (01:23:04):
What needs to happen is.
Speaker 41 (01:23:06):
We need to fire Nick Krall. We need to find
someone in that Milwaukee organization that would make the transition
over here and continue to build what it is that
Nick Krall started, because I don't think he has the
brains to finish it and make it a true contender
(01:23:28):
year after year. So have a great day, Take.
Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
Care, Jeff, thank you. Yeah, there's a good article on
MLB dot com that was written over the weekend about
how the Brewers have kind of built their organization and
the philosophy that they have and how they hired a
guy from the Tampa Bay Rays that kind of brought
that philosophy to them. They brought in an external voice
and a whole new mindset after they moved on from
(01:23:54):
Craig Council. I think the Red could benefit from the same.
Speaker 4 (01:23:57):
Firebox shot a move from the Bang. Good to see
you Saturday. Got good news for you, Bud. The stains
in my Jimmy Joey Harball Michigan jersey, they all came
out the fact that I bought that jersey just to
get OSU fans riled up, and the anger that that
(01:24:17):
jersey brings makes that purchase even that much more worth it.
Speaker 7 (01:24:23):
Go Blue, Bye Bye.
Speaker 6 (01:24:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
John Moon showed up to the fundraiser for Roman on
Saturday at Oakley Green's wearing a jim Harball Michigan jersey.
Speaker 32 (01:24:37):
Austin, you do a wonderful job. You do a great show.
Love listening to you. But feel free as soon as
you hear that first strom of the guitar. Just fast forward, please,
I can't get back those thirty seconds in my lefe.
Speaker 42 (01:24:59):
Hey guys, I just want to say home plate balls
and strikees umpiring is the worst I think it's ever been. Yep, Yesterday,
I keep Brian Hayes in the tenth inning. I mean
the umpire should have bought him dinner first.
Speaker 6 (01:25:12):
At least it was awful.
Speaker 42 (01:25:15):
I think it's time to bring the electronics strike zone in.
Speaker 3 (01:25:18):
YEP, I agree with you. I agree with you one
hundred percent. I think the state of Major League baseball
officiating is as bad as it has ever been. Last
night or yesterday, Mike Esterbrook was the homeplate umpire. If
you go to his umpire scorecard, he had an overall
favor of one point thirty nine runs for the Milwaukee Brewers.
He was just accurate on just eighty one percent of
(01:25:39):
his called strikes. The major league average is eighty eight
for umpires.
Speaker 6 (01:25:45):
Not good.
Speaker 5 (01:25:47):
Hey, guys, could be in a great weekend. Do you
think we can trade Elliet over the offseason and get
some good players for him, because he just seems like
he's a defensive liability. He makes some great plays, but
he also makes some bone hidden place and his hitting
is not getting any better.
Speaker 13 (01:26:10):
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (01:26:11):
Well, you're wrong about his hitting. The power certainly has
gone down, and he is dealing with a quad injury
that we found out about. But his hitting has gotten better.
He doesn't strike out as much, he walked more. He's
making more contact. He's not hitting as many homers, but
his hitting is getting better. Defensively, he's just wildly inconsistent.
And he had kind of evened out for a while there,
(01:26:32):
but then he had a rough stretch against Milwaukee. Could
they trade him? Yeah, sure, I'm sure they could. Will
they trade him?
Speaker 36 (01:26:38):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
I also don't think they should trade him. I just
don't think now is the right time to do that. Fairly,
day of the curse. All right, we'll take a break,
we'll come back. We've got a Postman Law injury report,
and then we'll get the Paul Danner Junior two o'clock.
This is since he three to sixty on the Home
of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen to.
Speaker 1 (01:26:54):
Thirty from the Wyoming Air temp Stock sixty continues on
ESPN fifteen thirty since an E's Sports station.
Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
Welcome back to Cincy three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty.
I'm Austin Elmore. In just a second, a Postman Law
injury report. But before we do that, a little bit
of news. Earlier in the hour, the Cleveland Browns announced
that Joe Flacco will be their starting quarterback for Week
(01:27:28):
one against the Bengals. I don't think that's a surprise
to anybody, but the Browns make it official that Flacco
will be their starting quarterback. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh is set to
host former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe
Davis for a visit. This will be his second visit
with Pittsburgh this summer and the Steeler still in the
(01:27:50):
market for a wide receiver. Looks like Gabe Davis is
going to visit Pittsburgh again and could potentially sign with them.
It's time for today's post Law Injury Report delivered by
Postman Law Injured Postman delivers. Let me start by outside
the Reds for a moment inside the National League Central.
If you remember Dl Hall, he pitched for the Brewers
(01:28:12):
on Friday night. He was the one who came in
after Jacob Mizerowski and gave up a bunch of runs
in the second inning, but then shut the Reds down
for a couple innings after that. He is dealing with
a Grade one, Grade two oblique strain, so he is
going to be out for a while for Milwaukee. So
he injured that in that game against the Reds on
(01:28:35):
Friday night, on his second to last pitch, did DL
Hall so DL to the I L Jake Frayley. Jake
Frayley buckled his knee and hyper extension on the in
the tenth inning on Saturday night. His knee did check
out fine, but he was designated for assignment yesterday, so
(01:28:56):
Jake Frayley no longer a Cincinnati read How about Tyler Stevenson,
He's dealing with left thumb soreness. He initially hurt his
thumb during the series in Pittsburgh in early August. He
did it again on the thirteenth of August against Philadelphia
and aggravated it on Friday against Milwaukee. He is available
to catch in an emergency, but Tyler Stevenson is listed
(01:29:18):
as day today and Jose Travino will be the catcher
until Stevenson is good to go. Nickolodolo was scheduled to
long toss for the second time on Friday and if
he was If all went well, he was supposed to
do a side bullpen yesterday. We have not heard whether
or not he threw that bullpen. Hopefully Francono will let
(01:29:39):
us know prior to the game tonight. For what it's worth,
on the Red's website, it still has Lodolo listed to
return on August twentieth, so take that what you will.
Some bad news here, Wade Miley was returned from his
rehab assignment. This was after he threw thirty eight pitches
in an inning and two thirds in a rehab start
at Double A Chattanooga, reported feeling soreness as he deals
(01:30:02):
with that left flexer strain. So disappointing news there for
Wade Miley. Reds were kind of hoping that he becomes
or he's a guy that could have helped them in
that bullpen as a left hander, maybe a lefty specialist.
So all seems to be good by the way. Chase
(01:30:22):
Burns MRI revealed that injury and his flexer tendon, but
once he is pain free, he will be able to
resume a throwing program. That was last updated on Friday,
So not a ton of new news there on Chase Burns,
but they does seem to be something that they're just
being a little overly cautious with as far as the
Red's right handed flamethrower is concerned. That's today's Postman Law
(01:30:43):
Injury Report, delivered by Postman Law Injured called eight four
to four Postman post m a N. We'll take a break,
we'll come back. We'll talk to Paul Dayner, Junior of
the athletic head of Bengals Commanders tonight right here on
ESPN fifteen thirty, iHeart presents the Big three.
Speaker 1 (01:30:58):
Change East co Subs since hebout Cincinnati from Cincinnatis, Sponsored
in part by Pennstation eastco Subs. Handcrafted hot grilled subs,
fresh cut fries, and lemonade. It's all about good taste.
Pennstation East Coast Subs order online today. This is ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (01:31:20):
That's right just six hours away from Monday night football
between the Bengals and the Washington Commanders. You'll hear it
right here on ESPN fifteen thirty. Welcome in our number
three of Cincy three to sixty. I'm Austin Elmore riding
solo today. Tony Pike and Ken Brew coming up this
afternoon three to six thirty ahead of the Bengals and Commanders.
(01:31:42):
Let's talk about the Bengals and Commanders, and let's do
so with our next guest, Paul Dayner Junior. He covers
the Bengals for the athletic inside it out. He's got
the Growler podcast network, the guys all over the place,
and he just told me during the break that Sincy
three to sixty is one of his favorite shows. So
I'm gonna leak it to the press that Moe Egger
(01:32:02):
is listening to trade offers to potentially trade Paul Danner
Junior to since he three to sixty. We'll see how
it goes. Hi, Paul, how are you?
Speaker 43 (01:32:09):
There's just as good a chance of Trey Hendrickson getting
traded as me getting traded to your show. That's nothing
against your show. That is nothing against your show. I
am a big fan, there's no I'm just happy to
be here. Yeah, I love the show.
Speaker 6 (01:32:26):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:32:27):
We're happy you're here. At least I am because I'm
the only one here. But why is this coming to
light now? I saw you post over the weekend. Nothing
has changed. Why is this a story all of a sudden?
Speaker 43 (01:32:39):
Well, hadn't it been a little quiet? I mean we
had been a couple of weeks of there's trade. I
was even forgetting to take pictures of him in his
hat right, Like he's helping the young guys. He's trying
to not be a distraction. You know, if there's one
thing we knew about this situation, just be quiet for
(01:33:01):
a little while, right, it needs to be ruffled up.
There needs to be a reminder that there will be distractions,
right and to continue to apply pressure.
Speaker 6 (01:33:12):
And I think that's where this comes from.
Speaker 43 (01:33:14):
Yes, the timing is pretty notable, considering they're gonna be
on Monday night football tonight and a talking point all
day on Monday, and this gets dropped out there that
the Bengals are listening to trade offers.
Speaker 6 (01:33:26):
Yeah, they their phones work, okay, Like.
Speaker 43 (01:33:31):
They pick up the phone there and they are under
the same impression as everyone. There's no way anybody's gonna
take the deal that they need for them to trade
Trey Henderson. That's the why the owner said it before
at Mock Turtle Soup that look, we're not trying to
trade Trey Henderson. And I think it's just this is
the gamesmanship of this, this is the way this thing
(01:33:53):
has gone since January. It's there's always gonna be a
news cycle, there's always gonna be the drama. There's always
going to be some sort of reminder that this is
going to be a distraction and.
Speaker 6 (01:34:04):
I just think this is sort of the latest turn
of that.
Speaker 3 (01:34:08):
I've seen some people say that if you're going to
ask for a first round pick or a defensive player
and this whole package in exchange for Trey Henderson, then
wouldn't you think he's worthy of guaranteeing money beyond the
first year. What would be your response to that logic?
Speaker 43 (01:34:24):
Yes, it's wildly hypocritical. There's no doubt, it makes no sense.
I'm not saying that they're making sense with this, right.
I mean, I feel like I don't want to beat
the dead horse, but like this is a trade that
should have been done in March, like this, we know
this at this point, but the bottom line, this is
(01:34:45):
where they are, and they're trying to find a way
to squeeze out the best deal from Trey Hendrickson with
an acknowledgment that in a couple of weeks or whenever
it is, they're probably gonna find whatever that middle ground
is and get this done. I felt that way, you know,
since we sat there with Mike and Duke and everybody
(01:35:06):
at the media luncheon, it's it's felt like it was
gonna inevitably get done.
Speaker 3 (01:35:12):
Let's say it doesn't from what you've seen from training
camp to this point. Can the Bengals make the playoffs
without Trey Hendrickson?
Speaker 43 (01:35:21):
Yes, I mean think about think about where they were
last year. Okay, I mean it's even with without Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 6 (01:35:30):
It's hard to be that bad defensively.
Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
I mean it's true, it really is.
Speaker 43 (01:35:37):
And I'm not saying that they're gonna be good. They
could just be more of the same, but there's a
lot of reason to believe that they would have or
could ever should have made the playoffs last year. And
for them to make a real run or be a
real team, they're gonna need their closer. They're gonna need
Trey Hendrickson to be the team that they need to
(01:35:57):
be this year. I don't debate that, but if you're
asking me make the playoffs be in the mix, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I mean their offense alone puts them in that conversation,
even if the defense is as bad as it was
last year.
Speaker 3 (01:36:13):
Now, you wrote this morning about Shamar Stewart and the
complete one eighty that he's done since he's reported the
training camp. How has that happened? How is a guy
like Shamar Stewart and as in not necessarily in the
good graces of the fan base and maybe even some
people in the organization. How's he done a complete one
eighty to now being a potential starter week one against Cleveland?
Speaker 43 (01:36:36):
Well, it stops by. It starts by stopping listening to
the advice that he and then it moves on to
being what they needed him so badly to be a
disruptive force. I mean, it's always going to be that.
For all the stuff that we talked about, and and
(01:36:58):
the slings and arrows in front of his locker, and
the walking out on many camp and all of that stuff,
none of it was ever gonna mean a hille Beans.
It was always gonna be about this about can you play?
Can you make plays? Can you take coaching? Can you
listen to coaching? Can you then apply it and show
(01:37:21):
that you're more than just an absolute specimen of an athlete.
And so far that's been the case. More so than
the fact that he's made plays. I have been taken
aback by the things he said, the way Jerry Montgomery
has talked about him learning and picking up what he's
teaching him, willingness to be coached hard and try to
(01:37:42):
learn from that talk about focusing on getting better every
day and not making I mean, I kind of tried
to set a little I'm not set a trap, but
I was curious what he was gonna say. That sounds wrong,
but me like, I was curious what he's gonna say
when I asked him if he wanted to be the starter.
It's a perfect chance. And I've seen many first round picks.
I'm going to be like, I better be the starter.
I am a starter. I'm the man right like.
Speaker 6 (01:38:03):
It's a rookie thing. You wanted to know, and he hadn't.
I don't. If I'm starting by what I am right now,
then that's not going to be good for me. I
need to get better. I want to be better.
Speaker 43 (01:38:13):
That's what he has to say when you ask that question.
This is saying and doing all the right things. It's
apologizing to Joe Burrow. When that thing went down the
other day. It wasn't that it happened. It was an
accident that he hits Joe Burrow. Could he have been better? Sure,
but he goes up, he apologizes. Afterwards, he takes a
time out not to talk.
Speaker 6 (01:38:33):
That day.
Speaker 43 (01:38:34):
He gathers his thoughts and says the right things the
next time that he's available. I just think since he
has shown up and started being a football player and
not a businessman or whatever was happening there, he has
been one hundred He has hit one hundred percent in
terms of doing things and saying the right things, and
(01:38:54):
that has stood out to me, and you just hope
that that will continue any.
Speaker 6 (01:38:57):
Plays in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
So he talked about how bad the defense was last year.
Are we maybe overlooking the impact that Jerry Montgomery can
have on this defense?
Speaker 6 (01:39:08):
Yeah, you know, I think so.
Speaker 43 (01:39:11):
I think there's a limit to what a defensive line
coach can do. I'm not diminishing the role, but it's
not gonna be as important as anything near what Al
Golden has to do.
Speaker 6 (01:39:21):
But hiring the right guys, the nature of the guys that.
Speaker 43 (01:39:24):
They have in that room that I think this is
probably as maximum of an impact as Jerry Montgomery could
have on any team in the NFL. Because you've got
a bunch of very young, underachieving, talented defensive linemen well
Chris Jenkins and Miles Murphy and obviously Chamar and McKinley Jackson.
(01:39:46):
And when you have that, and if you bring in
somebody who has a track record of turning those types
of players into better players.
Speaker 6 (01:39:57):
That's happened at each of his stops.
Speaker 43 (01:39:59):
Then I think that you can you can see it
having a real impact. Inevitably, everything else is going to
have to work together pretty well. But I think there's
a chance that we could be talking more about him
as we get.
Speaker 6 (01:40:12):
Into later portions of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:40:14):
Let's flip to the offensive line. What do we know
about the injuries to Cody Ford and Cordell Vohlson and
what exactly could the plan be moving forward due to
that lack of depth at the guard spot.
Speaker 14 (01:40:28):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 43 (01:40:30):
It's a work in progress. That's the line that Zach
Taylor used the other day, and I think it's right.
I think that their view is sure they have depth
issues that are hoping that the next two games will
make people feel more confident about those depth issues, whether
it's Jalen Rivers or some other young player. I mean,
(01:40:52):
they're going to see a lot of snaps from others
over the next two games and you're gonna hope to
come out of that feeling a little bit better. And
the same thing can be said by about twenty five
other teams. Across the league, like nobody likes their offensive
line right now. That's just the bottom line of it.
The other part is I think internally, I'm not gonna
(01:41:12):
sit here and say that they're waving the flag that
Lucas Patrick is the answer.
Speaker 6 (01:41:16):
I'm not. We've all we know what we're looking at
right now. But I do think that there's a feeling
that it's being a little blown out of proportion.
Speaker 43 (01:41:28):
The narrative around Lucas Patrick at this point, and that
there's more hope for him than I think than people
are giving him credit for.
Speaker 6 (01:41:37):
And so we'll see if that plays out.
Speaker 43 (01:41:39):
I mean, it doesn't really matter what they say, or
I say, or you say, or anybody on the internet yells,
it's gonna be He's gonna be the one that's gonna
be out there, like he's gonna be out there in Cleveland,
and at some point they're gonna he's gonna line up
across from Mason Graham, or they're gonna move Miles Garrett
over his face, or whatever's gonna happen, and that's gonna
be the judgment time. But I think they feel like
(01:42:03):
that it can be okay there and behind it is
going to be a lot of that is going to
be determined by what happens over the next couple of days.
Speaker 6 (01:42:12):
They're looking, but everyone's looking.
Speaker 43 (01:42:14):
It's really hard to acquire offensive linemen this time of
year because everybody feels not great about those groups.
Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
Talking to Paul Dayner Junior at Paul Dayner Junior, The
Athletic and The Growler Podcast as well as far as
tonight is concerned, what is at the top of your list?
What are you most interested in seeing in tonight's game?
Speaker 43 (01:42:36):
You know, you would love to see the first string
defense look better, regain a little bit of the momentum
that they felt like they had entering that first game.
I'm sure if it was Zach Taylor, he would continue
to bring up the operational stuff, whether it's the penalties,
(01:42:57):
getting the right amount of defensive lineman down on in
front of the offensive whatever that is. I'm sure he
would say it to me, look like you belong, look
like you're not lost.
Speaker 6 (01:43:09):
How about not?
Speaker 43 (01:43:11):
How about not on the third play of the game
a hole that a semi truck could go through for
thirty eight yards, Like, I just think that's inevitably. You
want to find a regaining of some of the hope
that you felt like you were seeing through all those
practices leading in to the first game and get some
confidence for those guys because certainly they're gonna need it.
Speaker 3 (01:43:33):
Dax Hill, Cam Taylor Britt both expected to play tonight.
What is the plan for them? And I guess what
is the plan for those who may have missed it
over the weekend. What exactly is the plan for the
first team units of the offense and defense tonight.
Speaker 43 (01:43:47):
Yeah, looks like it's gonna be very similar to what
it was against Philadelphia about one quarter, which is scaled
back from I think the original plan. Yeah, it was
suggested that it would be maybe up to a half
even in this Washington game.
Speaker 6 (01:44:00):
But I what they saw specifically offensively, is gonna scale
that back.
Speaker 14 (01:44:04):
Cam.
Speaker 43 (01:44:05):
You know, Cam and Dax are gonna play. They're gonna
be out there with the first group. It's gonna be important.
You don't like Dax Hill's first time to be out
there playing and cutting and having to truly test that
in the game, to be in Cleveland, and you're gonna
they're gonna need him. He's gonna he's the slot corner
for right now, and he's gonna be the guy. And
Cam Taylor brit They like the way that he has
(01:44:26):
sort of recentered himself this year after you know, that insane,
nauseust rollercoaster of last year and feel like he's got
a little bit more consistency to him. Yeah, uh so,
I think there's I think they they would like to
see those guys bring some stability.
Speaker 6 (01:44:42):
And there's a real chance if they can.
Speaker 43 (01:44:44):
Mean you gotta you know, not to go onto a
Dax and Cam tangent, But it's just so important that
your corners and your slots can really tackle and be
physical anymore. Like the way the run game has been
accentuated over the last year or two, it's just extra
(01:45:05):
important Cam and Daks are to do that. I mean,
Dax is built to do that, and Cam certainly you
know how physical he plays and how tough he is
out there.
Speaker 6 (01:45:13):
They're built to do that. If they can play at
a solid level and coverage.
Speaker 43 (01:45:18):
And pick it up, and I mean they bring you
something that you that every team is desiring physically in
those positions right now. It's they just need to go
out there and do it. So it's gonna be really
fun to watch them and see where they're at tonight.
I'm gonna put you on the spot here and I
apologize for that. But just a couple of minutes ago,
Jordan Schultz reported that the Bengals will be hosting Dalton
(01:45:43):
Reisner on a free agent visit tomorrow. What's your immediate
reaction to.
Speaker 6 (01:45:46):
That, desperate times?
Speaker 43 (01:45:53):
Yeah, I mean, I think that they're looking for anybody,
you know, when you're when you're looking at I don't
they would have been knocking on that door a lot
earlier if they felt like he was a real answer
is certainly something that feels like a reaction to whether
it's Cordel's injury or whatever else is happening there at
(01:46:15):
the fourth guard spot.
Speaker 6 (01:46:17):
I don't think they view him as.
Speaker 43 (01:46:21):
A starter at starting level player in the NFL, but
I mean they need all the help that they can get,
specifically in the depth area right now, and maybe he
can come in and make something happen.
Speaker 3 (01:46:33):
So I know that you're not traveling into to the
game this evening and watching the Bengals on the road,
So take me into the Paul Danner world. What's it
like when you watch a game at home? Are you
like post it up in the office? Do you have
like your computer and a bunch of notes written down,
or are you like everybody else? You got some wings,
you got some food, you got grease all over your shirt? Like,
(01:46:55):
what is it like when Paul Dayner watches a game
from home?
Speaker 43 (01:46:58):
Mait I try not to be grease over my shirt. Guy,
it has happened. Uh, it's very weird. I don't really
it's it rarely happens. It's only really these couple of
preseason games that it ever happens. So I I don't
really know. I get very uncomfortable. I don't really like
quite know what to do with myself. But I just
(01:47:20):
sit I just sit in the office chair and I've
got I'm a three screener. Screens you do at the
home office. I'm a three screen guy, So I have
I just put one of the screens.
Speaker 20 (01:47:29):
Up with the game, and then I usually have one
on whatever I'm writing, uh, and then one usually with
some form of social media that's making me sad, probably
up there at that point.
Speaker 43 (01:47:41):
And then it just kind of hang out. That's that's
that's kind of that's kind of the setup. But it's
less less greasy than the picture you were painting.
Speaker 6 (01:47:50):
How about that.
Speaker 3 (01:47:51):
Well, I didn't know. I mean, I know you're an
ou guy, and sometimes you guys can get a little sloppy,
so I just wasn't sure what was going on. Paul,
thank you so much for your time. Where can people
follow along with all your coverage of the game tonight
and going into the season.
Speaker 43 (01:48:05):
Yeah, Paul Dayer Junior on X And of course you
can always go to the Growler podcast on my our
YouTube page or wherever you get your podcast.
Speaker 3 (01:48:16):
Who runs your TikTok account for the Growler?
Speaker 5 (01:48:20):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:48:20):
You know what that person deserves. Yeah, that person deserves
a raise. Mark deserves a RaSE.
Speaker 6 (01:48:26):
Mark. I agree, I absolutely agree. Mark definitely deserves a rasee.
He's uh, he knows what he's doing over.
Speaker 3 (01:48:32):
There the TikTok account. Man. That just that cracks me up.
There's some great stuff on all right, Paul, Thanks pal,
see you later.
Speaker 6 (01:48:39):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
That is a Paul Daanener Junior from the Athletic.
Speaker 6 (01:48:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:48:43):

Speaker 22 (01:50:11):
Good afternoon, Austin.
Speaker 6 (01:50:12):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:50:12):
You know what I'm doing?
Speaker 6 (01:50:13):
All right?
Speaker 9 (01:50:13):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:50:14):
How are you doing?
Speaker 14 (01:50:15):
Okay?
Speaker 22 (01:50:15):
It's cool down here, so, uh, we got much nicer
weather than we've had for most of the summer, like
you guys, a lot of one hundred degree ninety five
degrees steamy, hot weather. I hate it, but nice nights,
late summer day here today. It's interesting that you brought
up arch Sleisa because you have the same birthday. He's
three years older than I am. So when I was sixteen, seventeen,
eighteen years old, he was my guy. I became all
(01:50:37):
Ohio state fan here and and yeah he was. He
was a stud I mean I thought this guy was
going to be the next I don't know, Rogers, Stawback
or whatever.
Speaker 6 (01:50:44):
Well certainly not the cake come fighting.
Speaker 15 (01:50:48):
How did you get need agree different about?
Speaker 6 (01:50:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
It could not be more opposite.
Speaker 22 (01:50:53):
Yeah, Captain America, Cleve Cutt and here's by Sleeta. You know,
could have been a casino with De Niro and Wines. Course,
but it's just the wild story that was. But as
far as Trey Henderson, now obviously we've talked before twenty
five percent of his sacks came in one game against
the Raiders last year, didn't really do much against the
Ravens in two games, didn't do much against the Chiefs
(01:51:16):
in that Week two game. There's guys that compile sacks
and then they're guys that get sacks. And I'm talking
about TJ. Watt or I'm talking about court Miles Garret,
who I think it's the best edge rusher.
Speaker 15 (01:51:28):
In the sport.
Speaker 22 (01:51:29):
So if you can't get him resigned, I hope that
the Bengals aren't looking to trade him for draft picks,
because that would be about sensical. When you have an
opportunity this year to make a run in the Super
Bowl with the best quarterback and the best wide receiver
in the sport, what about trade? And I know talk radio,
I hate it. I've worked in talk radio proposing trades
for idiotic I get it.
Speaker 6 (01:51:50):
I know that they really are.
Speaker 3 (01:51:51):
It's a foundational piece of the medium though of course, of.
Speaker 22 (01:51:55):
Course, I mean, you know, Ted Williams, f Joda Bajuo.
I'm not that old, but you know that's what they
used to talk about. Obviously my dad's day, but obviously
Henderson doing to Indianapolis would make some sense right reunited
with lou En Rumolt. They have one player on that
roster that would be perfect for the Bengals, and that's
Quintin Nelson. I don't know if the Colts want to
(01:52:15):
do that, but you're training the more important position, the
edge rushers, for a guard. They're about the same age.
I think you probably saved money because guards don't make
as much as edge rushers. Now you put him in
that left guard, Fairchild moves to right guard. Now your
offensive lines in shape, because my feeling on the defense,
Austin is it's gonna be a little bit better. This
year almost threw us moosis. You know, you've a couple
(01:52:36):
of young guys played better than the secondary TJ.
Speaker 14 (01:52:38):
Slayton.
Speaker 22 (01:52:39):
It's gonna help with the run game. Your first two
picks look like they can play. A new defensive coordinator.
You shouldn't have your kicker missed three potential game winning
field goals. And you're not playing in Kansas City this year,
so you're not gonna get robbed of the game there.
So you know, just to make sure that offense is
at the highest level and that number nine is protected,
and you know the defense is five percent better.
Speaker 6 (01:53:00):
Well pick yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:53:02):
I think it starts and stops with the Bengals offense
without a doubt. If it were me, I would make
that trade right now. I really would, which makes me
think that Colts fans would say the exact opposite, especially
with the quarterback questions that they have and being able
to protect those guys. It would save the Bengals a
lot of money. Quintin Nelson is younger, and it would
make the Colts much more formidable on defense and certainly
(01:53:24):
help out lou Anrumo. So I do think it's a
trade that makes sense for both sides. The issue here
is that Trey is looking for an extension and how
much money that the Colts are willing to guarantee and
what they're going to tie up and who and what like.
That's where it comes. That's where it gets tricky. And
with the Colts not having, you know, having a quarterback
on a rookie deal and not having a bunch of
(01:53:46):
superstars like it could make sense. So if it were me,
I would do it right now, and I'd be happy
with it. I'd sleep like a baby tonight. But I
just don't know if Colts fans or the Colts themselves
would make it that simple.
Speaker 22 (01:53:58):
Does it sound like, you know, sleep like baby tonight
because you're doing post game right.
Speaker 13 (01:54:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 22 (01:54:05):
Yeah, he goes, so that should be interesting. The whole
thing with Trey Henderson too, is that I think part
of the problem is say he goes to Indianapolis and
it's probably a one percent chanit for happening he becomes
their best player. So yeah, then he can get as
much money as he can. As long as he's in Cincinnati,
he is at best the third best player on the
Bengals because your quarterback and wide receiver are both better,
and they play more important positions, and they're younger. And
(01:54:28):
the quarterback especially I think has eight, nine, ten great
years still in front of him because of the way
he plays. So he's gonna be the third igh paid
player on Cincinnati. So if it's thirty million a year
for three years, I still think that's where the where
they can beat three years, ninety million, maybe sixty guaranteed
thirty million up flot. I mean, it's not my money, obviously,
(01:54:48):
but I think that that seems to be a sensible
deal for both sides. Get him back in there and
get on your way, but they definitely need help on
the offensive line, and they have to do something something
along the way to bring Anthony Munos back to them.
In from God, I'm sixty eight years old. I still
trusted more than anyone.
Speaker 3 (01:55:04):
Yeah, I'm right there with you. Thank you, John. I
appreciate the phone call. Yeah, I mean that makes a
lot of sense. Let me let me touch briefly on
Trey here, because I think it's important to note that
the Bengals are about to play a Monday night football
game nationally televised tonight, and two days before that, this
report comes out that the Bengals are listening to trade offers.
(01:55:27):
I do not think that is a coincidence. I think
that is a strategic part of a negotiation to try
to put pressure on the Bengals and try to make
them look bad.
Speaker 6 (01:55:37):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
I think it is fair to look at it and say,
the Bengals should have gotten this done a long time ago,
and they wouldn't be in this situation. And if they
were really open to trading them, they should have done
it months ago, in February or March. And they are
not going to get the return that they are apparently
asking for at this point in the season, and if
(01:55:59):
they are asking for such an astronomical return, then why
aren't they willing to pay the guy the guaranteed money
into the second and third year. These are all fair points.
I think Jay Morrison used the word that the Bengals
have botched this. I don't necessarily disagree with that, but
I think it's interesting what Albert Breer said this morning.
(01:56:22):
Albert Breer, of course from Sports Illustrated the Monday Morning Quarterback.
He so, there's not been much movement on Trey. The
Bengals listen to the trade offers would want defensive help
plus picks, and their offer to Hendrickson is massive in
ap y that is annual amount per year, but lax
(01:56:43):
the guarantees he wants, so the standoff continues. Breer continued
that it seems unlikely a team will give up picks,
a player and the contract Hendrickson wants, but his side
is clearly trying to generate that. So Albert Breer is
saying this is coming from Trey Hendrickson and his agent.
(01:57:03):
He then finishes by saying pride and precedent are factors.
This is a three year saga, not the type of
situation where a player wants to give the team a break,
he'll have to feel like he won. Meanwhile, the team
broke its contract precedents for Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow,
but not t Higgins. Here the Bengals are putting Hendrickson
(01:57:27):
in the Higgins bucket rather than the Chase or Burrow bucket.
And when you think of it in that way, it
makes a lot of sense to me. And that's kind
of what I've been trying to say from the very beginning.
Trey is a good, impactful player. He is not somebody
that I feel comfortable guaranteeing a ton of money to
for the next three seasons. Now I've shifted a little
(01:57:50):
bit because after watching this team through one preseason game
and all the stuff we've seen from training camp, I
do not feel as confident about the defense's ability to
to be marginally better as I did at the beginning
of training camp. And now I don't know that this
team can make the playoffs without Trey Hendrickson being there.
(01:58:10):
I still believe that they will get some sort of
agreement done and Trey will play on September seventh against
Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns. I believe that to
be what's going to happen, But but it does not
change that all of this could have been avoided and
(01:58:30):
that the Bengals have not made this any easier on themselves.
If it were me, I would have traded him in
February or March. I've said that multiple times, and then
you would have maybe been able to get a pick
that helps you this year, and you wouldn't have had
this distraction in this nonsense, and you would have some
more financial clarity about what you want to do, and
(01:58:52):
maybe it frees you up for this year, it frees
you up for next year, and you have a little
bit more understanding in a way, and a plan to
build around Joe Burrow. But instead we're still doing this.
He needs to get on the field. The Bengals need
him on the field. And more than anything, nothing here
(01:59:13):
has changed. This is a direct negotiating ploy, a leverage
play by Trey Hendrickson and his agent to try to
drum up conversation, scrutiny, and heat on the Bengals prior
to a nationally televised preseason game. It is maybe the
final play that Henderson and his camp have and I
(01:59:37):
don't see anything changing. Maybe if you're the Bengals, based
off the amount of money that you have this year
and next, it makes more sense to get a little
bit more money, give a little bit more guaranteed money
in that second year than what Trey wants. And at
this point I would even say do it. Because Miles
(02:00:00):
Murphy is a nobody, Joseph Osai has done nothing, and
he's on an expiring contract. You've got to have somebody.
We talked about the depth of that position with Richard
Skinner earlier. It gets really thin very quickly. So even
that peace of mind of knowing, Okay, I've got Shamar
Stewart and I've got Trey Hendrickson. I can figure it
(02:00:22):
out from there. That peace of mind, to me is
almost worth it for your defense. But I don't look
at this as a way of saying like, oh, everything
is different now, like they're gonna trade him before the
start of the season. No, they're not going to trade him.
It's not going to happen. This is just you know.
And the other thing is they've been listening. Of course
(02:00:43):
they're gonna listen. Of course, as Paul said, their phones work.
Of course they do. But the Bengals have got to
look around and see the same thing that I see
and the same thing that you see, and see that
this defense needs him. And we'll see what happens tonight.
Maybe that changes something. I don't know that it does,
(02:01:04):
But more than anything, if your defense can't win one
on ones, you desperately need somebody who can, and Trey
at least has proven he can do that. Nobody else
on this defense has proven they can. We'll take a break,
We'll come back. This is since he three to sixty
on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 19 (02:01:24):

Niney Welcome back ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. This
is SINCEY three to sixty. I'm Austin know More. A
couple of minutes away from quick hits with Tony Pike.
Try to squeeze in a couple of phone calls. Let's
quickly go to Brian in Montgomery. Brian, what's on your mind?
Speaker 14 (02:02:05):
Hey?
Speaker 16 (02:02:06):
How are you doing?
Speaker 3 (02:02:07):
Good man?
Speaker 17 (02:02:09):
I was kind of perplexed by like you and some
of the other sustain media saying, you know, the Bengals
probably wouldn't be able to make the playoffs about like
a Trey Hendrickson. Well, I mean we saw that last
year they did make the playoffs with Trey Hendrickson, and
and this defense can really only go up right, like,
it can't get even worse.
Speaker 13 (02:02:29):
I mean, I know that the.
Speaker 17 (02:02:32):
I know that they kept Genos down on the back end,
which is very concerning.
Speaker 16 (02:02:37):
But getting younger and faster I think is you know
the way the modern NFL is going, So like Demetrius
Knight and Smarts Stewart kind of fit that.
Speaker 3 (02:02:46):
Bill, Brian, you're breaking up? That was kind of weird.
Speaker 7 (02:02:52):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:02:53):
Yes, but those guys have never played in the NFL.
I don't want to make the assumption that they're just
going to come in and immediately have a positive impact.
I can't make that assumption. And so you would think
they can't get worse. But is that the right way
to approach the way you look at a defense. My
(02:03:15):
big thing is based off of the other guys on
the defensive line, the lack of depth at safety and
the question marks everywhere else. They really need a certainty
at some position and Trey is that now. I thought
that I would see more from them through training camp
to make me feel exactly how you feel, Brian, but
(02:03:35):
I haven't seen enough to make me feel that way.
Let's go to Greg in Mount Airy. What's up, Greg? Greg?
Speaker 6 (02:03:45):
Are you there?
Speaker 7 (02:03:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:03:48):
Greg, you're on the air. What's on your mind?
Speaker 36 (02:03:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:03:53):
I would take that Quentin Nelson Trey Henderson trade in
a heartbeat. Yeah, you know, I know it probably won't happen,
but if you think about it, does make a lot
of sense for both teams.
Speaker 3 (02:04:06):
Yeah, you know, so I don't know.
Speaker 13 (02:04:10):
Maybe something like can stay on that point, but be
as in May, I wouldn't guarantee Trey past two years.
I did say one, so I did compromise, right, and
if he don't want to go for that, I just
let him sit out.
Speaker 6 (02:04:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:04:27):
I'm right there with you, Greg. I think we both
have kind of gotten to that point. Thank you for
the phone call. Yeah, I mean, I think that's it's
one of the ways you got to look at it.
By the way, Dalton Riisner eighty one career starts over
a couple of different teams with the Vikings Broncos last year,
he had a PFF grade of sixty seven. Overall, he
(02:04:48):
had a seventy six point two PFF pass blocking grade
a fifty seven point four PFF run blocking grade. He did, not,
according to Pro Football Focus, allow sac last season, and
he allowed one quarterback hit. He allowed sixteen total pressures, again,
all according to Pro Football Focus. By the way, just
(02:05:11):
seeing now that former elder star in Ohio State Buckeye
long snapper Jake McQuaid is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 6 (02:05:20):
So there's that.
Speaker 3 (02:05:21):
All right, We'll take a break. We'll come back with
Tony Pike for quick hits on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 6 (02:05:26):

you hi, Austin?
Speaker 6 (02:06:17):
I'm good?
Speaker 36 (02:06:17):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (02:06:18):
I'm wonderful. What do you got coming up this afternoon
from three until six thirty?
Speaker 12 (02:06:24):
Couldn't tell you? Oh No, it's a lot. It's a
it's the preseason pregame sports talk. Yeah, and I'm doing
it with Ken Brew Nice. I'm excited. There's a lot
to talk about. Trey Hendrickson. We can talk about him.
We can talk about potentially adding a guard, which might
be closer now than it was just a few minutes ago. Yes,
(02:06:47):
how good has Shamar Stewart been and how much will
they rely on him when the season gets started? The
latest on the old line? Who's playing tonight?
Speaker 6 (02:06:54):
Who's not? What do we want to see tonight and.
Speaker 3 (02:06:57):
So much more. Could you name the state that the
Bengals are playing in tonight now, hell Northwest Stadium. Apparently
I was gonna say Hell on Earth. Yeah, well it
says raise Hale on the outside of it. Praisdale, No
hal Hal, Praisdale to the commanders, you know what I mean?
Speaker 7 (02:07:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:07:15):
Uh, people want to know how did things go this
weekend with the fundraiser for your nephew Roman and your
sister Jenna.
Speaker 12 (02:07:23):
Outside of the fact that it was unbelievably hot outside.
Blown away by the amount of people that showed up,
Blown away by the amount of people that donated their
uh from anything from uh, their their time, their tweets,
their money, donated items for for raffles and auctions. We're
(02:07:44):
going to try this week to to reach out and
thank everyone. But there's so many people to think. But uh,
it was an awesome event, and uh it was great
to see. Uh obviously so many people. Austin You were there, Yes,
Moe was there. How about Crosley most daughter. I was
about to say, jump on the microphone and sings Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (02:08:02):
She gave Jeff Henry a break. You know, he had
been performing in that heat, and she says, I can
do a little Taylor Swift and so Jeff said, go
right ahead, and the crushed it.
Speaker 7 (02:08:14):
It was.
Speaker 12 (02:08:14):
It was one of those nights and I was talking,
uh with my family about this yesterday. It's great, but
you also feel like there's so many people and you're
doing so much that you don't get time to really
talk to as many people, Like you sit back at
the end of the night, like, man, I didn't get
to talk to so and so and but it was
such a good event, and uh, I.
Speaker 3 (02:08:31):
Did get to talk to Dan Horde.
Speaker 12 (02:08:32):
Yeah, Dan, unbelievable, like the people that just randomly popped up,
and then like you feel bad because you had to
run somewhere and and and do something. But uh, we
raised some good money and to do it in the
span of a couple of weeks, which which is kind
of the timeline we had. We hoped to be able
to do something more official next year as as this
is ongoing, But for everything that happened this year was awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:08:55):
I'm gonna give you a word and I want to
get your reaction. Actually I'm gonna I'm just gonna say
something and I want your react like my psychiatrist, Cincinnati
Reds average. How do you explain this weekend?
Speaker 12 (02:09:10):
I don't know, because there is part of me that thinks, man,
they showed that they have what it takes to compete
against one of the best teams right now in baseball.
But at the very core of it, they showed what
has held them back for so many times this year,
the situational awareness airs getting the job done when it
matters most. And you take two more this weekend of
(02:09:31):
a long line of games that if you are on
the outside looking in here at the end of this
wild Card race, you will not have a shortage of
games to look back on and figure out why this
team is on the outside looking in. That they had
an opportunity to sweep the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend and
had an opportunity to win the series, and yes, they
salvaged one, they avoided the sweep, but it just felt
(02:09:54):
like such a miss. And it feels like it's a
i'll say above it. It feels like it's a above
average team, But I don't feel like they're a contender watching.
Speaker 3 (02:10:02):
Them, Yeah, there is. I feel like there's a pretty
decent gap between above average and contender.
Speaker 6 (02:10:08):
You know, yeah, like they are.
Speaker 12 (02:10:10):
They have a contending pitching staff, right, But from a
team standpoint there they are a little.
Speaker 3 (02:10:16):
Bit of average twenty one other guys on the team
besides starting pitchers, correct, which is you know, kind of
important as far as tonight's game goes. What are you
most looking forward to or what do you want to
see more than anything else?
Speaker 12 (02:10:28):
Well, I want to see first how this injury report
shakes up and the lineman that will be able to
go and won't be able to go, And I think
that should have a bearing on what Joe Burrow is
able to do tonight.
Speaker 6 (02:10:40):
We heard it.
Speaker 12 (02:10:40):
It's going to be a similar situation as it was
the week before against Philly. Offensively, again, it should be
better competition for Dylan Fairchild. I'd like to see him
pass another test that he's going to be given. But defensively,
this isn't about sorting one player out. Yes, I want
to see more of the young guys in Stuart and
Demetrius Knight because they're going to be major contributors. But
(02:11:03):
they were, let's call it what it is. They got
dog walked against the Eagles. They got dog walked, and
that wasn't against players, the caliber of what they'll see
early in this game tonight against Washington. If we're talking
again tomorrow about the defense having a similar showing than
they did against Philly, then I think is a legit
(02:11:23):
time to panic about the defense. And they were awful
last year, and I think it would get to a
point you got to panic a little bit about a
little more about them now. If they show some improvement,
if they tackle better, if they're more physical, if we
see them winning one on one battles or winning the
point of attack on the line, then I will feel better.
And then I'll say, Okay, week one was just a
(02:11:45):
microcosm of a new system, a new coaching staff and
trying to get their feet wet. Look how much they
improve from week one to week two. If that's not
the case, then I think you have a legitimate concern.
Speaker 3 (02:11:55):
And you saw the report about Trey Hendrickson and the
Bengals listening to trade offers. What was your immediate reaction.
Speaker 6 (02:12:02):
I'm so perplexed.
Speaker 12 (02:12:05):
One immediately, I'm like, Okay, the Bengals put this out
there because you list the three teams interested as arguably
the three worst in football, the Browns, the Colts, and
the Carolina Panthers. I thought that was a message to
Trey Hendrickson to say, hey, we could send you to
one of these places, or you can sign here. But
what doesn't make sense is what we've known all along, Austin.
If this was really what the Bengals were going to do,
(02:12:27):
why did it take so long to do it? Why
did it take so long to listen to these offers,
Why did it take so long to put more out there.
Why did it take so long to potentially come down
on the asking offer at which you have? But I
thought we've had Jeff Schwartz on the show friend of
the Show before. I thought what Mitchell Schwartz said was
very interesting. He said, so Trey Hendrickson is worth an
(02:12:49):
impact player or two plus a draft pick, but not
worth guaranteeing a couple of seasons on top of the
market money. That to me is where I'm kind of
down the middle on This.
Speaker 3 (02:12:59):
Is what made me think the opposite of view is
that it didn't come from the Bengals and it came
from Track.
Speaker 12 (02:13:04):
You view him as someone that you expect a starting
caliber player or players and a high draft pick. You
view him not highly, but not highly enough to work
the guarantees, because all accounts are that the money's there.
Speaker 3 (02:13:17):
They're there on the total.
Speaker 6 (02:13:19):
It's just odd.
Speaker 12 (02:13:20):
It's puzzling. It's another gift for us to use for
another week. But from a team standpoint, it is troubling.
I think very quickly. This is a one word answer.
Have you or have you not received interest from the
Kentucky Barrels about playing quarterback in the New Arena League.
Speaker 6 (02:13:38):
I'll say not yet, not yet. I know Jeff Fisher's
making his round.
Speaker 3 (02:13:42):
If Jared Lorenzen was the hefty lefty that makes you
the mighty righty, I hope Jeff Fisher's listening. I hope
he is too. All right, we'll see that does it
for us? Ton have fun with this afternoon. Kim's looking
at me through the window, right yeah, I hope you
have fun.
Speaker 6 (02:14:00):
Ken. Here we go three to six starting Brew Don.
Speaker 3 (02:14:03):
That's Tony Pike. Him and Ken Brew are next. Thank
you so much for listening to Cincy three sixty. You
can hear me Friday morning, twelve thirty am to two
thirty am tonight after Bengals football right here on ESPN

so much for listening. Tony and Ken are next. This
