Chili. Where whenever or wherever you'refeeling good and hungry, it's always Skyline
Time. Wouldn't you say? That'sright, Austin, All the time,
all the time is uh is Skylinetime. Many might be surprised to even
(00:50):
hear my voice today. May wethought this might be the weekend. Maybe
Tony's on leave now and he's takingcare of his wife and a new baby.
And that's still not the case.We still wait, Austin. We
wait, we wait, we wait, and uh, we've had a We've
had some close calls. We've madesome phone calls, made a phone call
yesterday. Hey, here's the symptoms. Are we ready to go? Uh?
(01:11):
Oh? Now, as I'm readingthis. Listen to this, Austin
text from your wife. It mightbe the day I'm currently struggling. Oh
okay, so we might go wemight be a little, uh, a
little on edge here today. Youcould be Frankie Muntas. Where you going,
ash And I have to be CarsonSpires Frankie Muntas. Boy, Now
(01:38):
it's not I'd rather have a babythan watch Frankie Muntas pus in. I
can't. We can't do that,Austin, because the Reds did take three
or four from the car. Ibeen fantastic. They've played much better baseball,
and somehow, some way, wespent a lot of the last couple
of weeks Austin saying, what manif the Reds could get to five hundred
(01:59):
by the end of June. Theythey damn near got the five hundred on
June tenth, June ninth, theyhad an opportunity yesterday wasn't in the cards
against the Cubs. They fall. They are now thirty two and thirty four,
and they are part of this threeway log jam in the NL Central
of teams that are six and ahalf now behind the Milwaukee Brewers. I
(02:19):
guess that's the frustrating part Austin. As good as the Reds have been,
you know, they flashed up onthe screen yesterday the four best win streaks
in baseball. Reds were one,Orioles two, Yankees were three, and
the Milwaukee Brewers were four. SoRed's going a great run. Milwaukee's still
playing really good baseball. They havea six and a half game lead on
the Cincinnati Reds, but right smackdab in the middle of the wild card
(02:45):
race. So positives, positives, positives on the Cincinnati Reds. We'll talk
about the Reds a lot here, especially in our number one. We'll recap
the weekend's games. We'll get someMadio. We have to ask a question
with the Brandon Williamson news and theGraham Ashcraft news and mon Toss getting baut
around yesterday a little bit and alexisdsthroughout the season, do the Reds suddenly
(03:08):
have a pitching problem or a concern? Reds are off today, Ohio Cup
next, and then a trip toMilwaukee. We'll look around the rest of
Major League Baseball, look at someearly trade deadline conversations. But before anything
else with Baseball Austin, let usplease review Yesterday's top sports stories brought to
you by Kloud's Roofing System of Cincinnati, the trusted local roofing and gutter company.
(03:30):
Visit Krssincewithey dot com. That's krssincdot com. A lot going on
in the sports world, including butnot limited to, Austin mandatory mini camps
starting this week for the Cincinnati Bengals. That's right. Coming on tomorrow,
Tigos are plus one to win theAFC No order. Do you know what
(03:53):
also happens tomorrow? No? Thereveal of the twenty f Madden twenty five
cover. Oh there are There wasa potential leak that came out over the
weekend. No one knows for sureif that's true. We talked about it
on Friday with Charlie, But we'llknow for sure tomorrow who the cover art,
(04:15):
cover art, cover athlete is okayfor the Madden cover art, he
tried to say stuttering okay, Andwe'll find out. Does Joe Burrow throw
at practice tomorrow? And if hedoesn't, is there a conversation there?
I believe two of the three mandatorymini camp practices are open to the public,
(04:35):
so we will know Tuesday and Wednesdayfor sure. Actually that could be
wrong. I think they're all threeopened or not. I shouldn't say open
to the public, open to themedia. And Zach Taylor kind of alluded
though a little bit yesterday or lastweek if they would even get all three
days in. I lied all threeof them. Yeah, all three on
the schedule are open to the media. So we'll know what Burrow does each
(04:55):
day, assuming that they have allthree practices in the past. Zach has
kind of it short, so we'llsee what happens. Zach at the moment,
scheduled to hear from him on Thursday, so we'll keep you going to
help me. Well, you're notgoing to be here Thursday. I'm not
going to be here tomorrow. Correct. Welcome to load management June. I
do have. If we do makeit to Thursday, you will pretty much
(05:19):
steer this ship until the twenty eighthof June. Yes, when I'll be
back. Yeah, it's easy tobe captain the ship when the seas are
calm down and we got to Youand I both need to thank the Reds
for this mini run to get thingsback into contention. Yeah, because if
things had gone the other way, those seas would have been extremely chopping over
(05:40):
the next few weeks. Mandatory Minicamp this week, we'll get more on
that. Darren Waller officially retired.Over the weekend. We'll look at fallout
from the Justin Jefferson deal, notto just the receiver market, but the
rest of the NFL and if therewas a position that is prime for the
boom that wide receiver contracts have seen, what is that next position in the
(06:01):
National Football League. Good news fromthe Kansas City Chiefs Austin and Uh,
that is the news that b J. Thompson is alert and awake after a
cardiac after cardiac arrest that took placelast week went in went into UH cardiac
(06:23):
arrects arrest, suffered seizures while ina special teams meeting at the Chiefs practice
facility, and it was said Austin, the vice president of sports Medicine,
said it was Harrison Butker that ranout of the meeting to get the team's
medical personnel so that they were ableto get to b J. Thompson immediately.
(06:46):
He was in cardiac arrest for aminute to a minute and a half.
Scary stuff. Uh, this onthe heels Austin, It's going on
right now. Bob Mangean who joinsus each and every week from Novacare.
His grandson passed suddenly due to asudden cardiac arrest a couple of years ago,
I believe almost four years ago asthe dates coming up this week,
(07:09):
and spoke at at an event lastnight with Bob and Matthew's family part of
the Matthew Mangen Junior Foundation. Itis it's insane to hear Austin, one
high school student athlete is losing theirlife every three and a half days to
a sudden cardiac arrest. Wow.And the numbers, And I mentioned the
(07:30):
minute minu and a half the AEDdevices that were used on DeMar Hamlin.
If you can get that device onthe athlete or the person within three minutes,
the survival rate is incredible. Andthen every minute that goes by after
that. I heard stories last nightat the DeMar Hamlin situation and just how
many people just crushed it. Imean, you go through these plans,
(07:58):
but to go through it as DeMarHamlin did, and obviously as bj Thompson
did, great to hear that hehas awake and alert after the cardiac episode.
What else do we have? FCCincinnati is going to be back in
action on Saturday. Hmm. TheStanley Cup finals are underway, Final Final
(08:18):
the Stanley c don't put an son that now, it's the final game
two. Yes, tonight, Floridaleads that series one zero. Who are
you rooting for? Kind of rootingfor Florida? I am too, Yeah.
I saw Mike McDaniel was at Gameone, the Dolphins head coach.
Great rhythm, great rhythm, greatrhythm, pounding the drum. Now,
you told me you have a Dolphinsrelated trade question coming up later on in
(08:41):
the in the show looking forward tothat. What else happened yesterday? Scotti
Sheffler won and the Memorial Tournament inDublin. Listen to this tone. He
did not get arrested. Scotty Schefflerhas made twenty four million dollars this season
alone. Believable. He's been theworld number one for the last two years.
(09:03):
In twenty twenty two, he madetwenty million. Last year he made
like twenty two million. He's alreadymade twenty four million and there's three months
left in the season. Incredible, unbelievable. The dominance of Scotti Scheffler and
then coming up this weekend, Toneis the US Open at Pinehurst. They
were just there. You just playedthat colp just crushed that course, brought
(09:26):
it to its knees. Jy,did you really? Dan Hurley is expected
to make his decision today. I'mstarting to think Dan Hurley was like,
Hey, Yukon, give me somemore money. Yep, that's what I'm
saying. What it feels like,That's what it feels like. I wanted
him to go to the Lakers.I don't think it's gonna happen though.
Also Tone, the eight teams inthe College World Series are set and the
(09:50):
Kentucky Wildcats all right, Cats aremaking their first ever trip to Omaha and
made the College World Series. Ourguy Liam has been all over the coverage.
He was at the game last night, and they call him the Batcats,
the bat Cat, I'm not mistaken, the Batcats. So it's gonna
be Tennessee, Florida State, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, A and
(10:13):
m Florida. Uh in Kentucky andI think Georgia and NC State got pushed
back to today. All right, then, I can't remember for sure,
but either way, Uh, it'sbeen awesome that College World Series. The
Clemson Florida game yesterday was unbelievable bananas. Yeah, so I do want to
(10:33):
spend more time on that. Wewe had my cousin Connor called in and
was fantastic for us on Friday andEvansville A they they they took him to
the limit. They did. Theyforced a third game. They actually had
to lead in all three games ofthat series. Tennessee just way too much.
I had fun watching college baseball thisweekend. I did too. I
(10:54):
had fun watching Clemson in Florida yesterdayand in the in in extra innings at
the umpire turning into an upshow Now, I do think the college up We
talked about the mlbums college jumps arebad as well. This ump Clemson hits
a go ahead home run and Ibelieve the thirteenth inning that's a lot of
energy, right, you're excited, the player showed some excitement. Ump tossed
(11:16):
him. Unbelievable, unbelievable ump shows. I'm so tired of umpires, yeah,
I really am. But uh,fun fun college baseball weekend. Speaking
of college sports, tone, Okay, two things. Oregon State when they
lost the other night, that wasthe final moment for the PAC twelve the
(11:37):
PAC twelve no longer exists after that, and I saw over the weekend done
that. Scott Sadderfield and the Bearcatshave been making some noise on the recruiting
trail. Yeah about a four starwide receiver out of South Carolina, Michel
Skinner. And then I think theygot Paul Nelson, three star linebackers out
of Princeton, local kid yep.Okay, Scott's Sadderfield, okay. Coach
(11:58):
Cole the job from well, playingfootball in heaven. That's all you gotta
do. NBA Finals. It's twoto oh right now. Boston and Denver's
got to figure something out sooner ratherthan later. By Dallas. Yeah the
too well Denver it does as well. But Maicks Luca was listening as questionable
last night. He's dealing with somestuff right now. He still had thirty
(12:20):
two, eleven and eleven. Theproblem for the Dallas Mavericks right now.
Kyrie has been awful in the finals. He Aver was twenty seven a game
against Minnesota. He just had sixteenon seven of eighteen shooting. Last night.
As a team Austin they shot sixof twenty six from three. If
your name is not Luca, theyshot like two of seventeen from three.
(12:41):
That is not going to win alot of games. I knew Boston was
good, Yeah, I didn't expectthese series to be as are these two
games to be as not as competitiveas I have been. Yeah, I
mean last night Boston was up threeat half and they had made one three
Yeah, and Tatum had like twopoints. They are. Boston is so
deep. Porzingis now coming off thebench. Is crazy, but the way
(13:07):
Boston is built. Tatum had eighteenlast night, Jalen Brown had twenty one.
It was Drew Holliday that had twentysix. And Jalen Brown or Jason
Tatum seems to be getting a lotof heat. Not sure why, and
I'm not sure why because his teamis winning games in the NBA Final.
Twelve assists and nine boards, Yeah, that's pretty good along with eighteen points.
Now, people like to hate, just to hate, they do.
(13:28):
It's crazy they do now. Thedepth of Boston, it's it's apparent the
Dallas role players just aren't getting itdone. They got it done against Minnesota,
They're not getting it done right now. Now. What they say Austin
is those role players they thrive athome. So this game now shifts,
(13:48):
this series shifts back to Dallas. There was did you watch the end of
the game last night? I caughtthe very tail end, So there was
a play with about fifty seconds leftthat Dallas gets a steal. They're down
five. PJ. Washington goes upfor a dunk. I thought he was
pushed in the back and fouled byDerek White. I thought there were two
fouls. It was a no call. Yeah. If if that either goes
(14:11):
in or there's a foul, it'sa three point game with forty nine seconds
left, pressure goes back to Boston. Instead, Boston is able to ice
the game away. They get atwo oh series lead, and we'll see
if Dallas has an answer for that. And there is a Caitlin Clark conversation
that we'll get to later in theshow as well. This is like four
(14:33):
times in the last seven shows we'vetalked about the WNBA. Well, I
think it's different. I don't knowthat we're talking about the WNBA no One.
This one is about the Olympic. It's about the Olympics. But I
do think that the whole conversation haskind of devolved into some sort of a
cultural race thing between Kaitlin Clark andthe WNBA. I don't think we're talking
(14:54):
about the good parts of the WNBA. No, Like I don't know.
I don't know if the people, like the casual fan just assume that Caitlin
Clark was going to walk into theWNBA and be the best player, and
they're struggling to figure out that she'snot and some of these other rookies are
not just going to come in anddominate the league. I don't know if
(15:16):
the players that were already in theleague had a problem with that idea.
I don't know what it is.We're not focusing enough on the actual games
and how some of these players areplaying, and more focusing on how's Kaitlyn
Clark respond to this or what doesthis woman say about Caitlin Clark. Yes,
Caitlyn's the one who's she's the strawwho stirs the drink. But also
it's still a very entertaining league rightnow, and we're missing some of the
(15:39):
bigger picture in the WNBA. Yep, we will talk more about the Caitlin
Clark decision to leave her off theOlympic roster mentioned or Austin mentioned. I
do have a Miami Dolphins question asit relates to Tua and another quarterback in
the league, a ton of reds. Before we get to our first break,
we'll get our first phone call ofthe week, and that is not
Mark Austin. It's Mike. Mike. What's up? Mike? Hey,
(16:03):
guys, thanks for taking me first. Really grateful see you. Yes,
sir, he had a great weekend. Good weekend, Austin. I know
you worked. Yeah, cool, that was a good chill you had yesterday
and enjoyed listening to us Austin andI agree. Well, you know how
Dan Patrick had the best in theworst on Mondays. I was listening to
that this morning. He's he's reallygot a nice show anyway, very relaxing
(16:26):
and very pleasant show. Funny. Those guys are really dry humor, but
they're pretty funny. But the bestof the weekend was that catch that center
fielder for Quenna. My goodness, they was really Willy May's eske with the
basket catch over his shoulder, bobblesthat traps it to his body. Incredible
to him any and and the topof the inning he has three run home
(16:47):
run to tie the game. Yeah, right after hitting the tank man,
what a what a What an inningfor that guy. I will never forget
that the rest of his life. And then what a way have finished.
But the worst was bought that listened. Dallas packed your craft for the barn
because this thing, they'll beat you. You want to run, they'll beat
you. You want to slow itdown, they'll beat you. They are
(17:11):
so superior to use too of Dallas. It's not I mean, yesterday was
obvious right. Boston played there,They played their d game in the first
half and they were up by three. Yeah, and in Minnesota might have
been rated the best defensive team inthe league, but in this playoffs,
yeah, we know who the bestintensive played. It's so much about matchups
(17:33):
because when Boston, if Boston hasa team that plays slow and Luca likes
to play slow, they're able toget their defensive defense set and they are
a nightmare to score against. It. It's just a bad, bad matchup
for the Dallas Mavericks. It is. I don't see there's no way,
Tony. The matter of fact,I can smell all those sweepy sleepy come
in here because I think because yesterdaylooked, they know the Boston didn't play
(17:57):
their best game of the slow downGames two and they still I mean,
they were in total control of thatgame no matter how close it got.
Really sure, I agree. Soanyway, and then the other thing I
wanted to mention was the passing oneof my all time favorite basketball players,
Chet the jet Walker from Bradley University. It was I didn't know he was
(18:18):
eighty four. On ESPN yesterday theymentioned it, but this guy was seven
or eight time Hall Pro player. He was murder on the Bearcats back in
the sixties, murder on Paul Hoagand Ron Bonham and Tom Facker and all
those old Yeah. He guys,Chet the jet Walker. I think he's
about six six sixty seven, verylow key guy. And actually that's the
(18:40):
Sixers team that he was on wasthe only team that broke that run by
the Celtics back then, because theyhad Wilt Sitters had Wilt Walker, Billy
Cunningham and then Wally Jones and thegreat Hal Grerit Guard and that's that's who
broke that that string they had orwhatever it was. But just want to
mention that for the passing. Thanksguys, Mike, I appreciate it.
(19:00):
Man, have a good one.You know. He mentioned a Cincinnati killer
Austin. We saw another one againyesterday in the first frickin' inning. Of
all people to come up with thebases loader, you know who it is,
Ian Happ Gosh man. You knowReds had done a pretty good job
of keeping him in check. Yeah, in the last series and in this
series, you knew it was coming. Yeah, the way Montas struggled in
(19:22):
the first and then seeing Ian Hapcome up not good. Let's talk about
that and the rest of the weekend. That was for the Cincinnati leaves.
When we come back, it issince he three to sixty thanks to our
friends at Skyline Chili on the Homeof the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
Station. Hey, Alexa, what'sgoing on in the NFL? It is
(19:44):
one in one out of Freedole.Flashing back to the start that Brown had
against the Reds at Wrigley, secondtime that FreeDOS came to the played against
him, took them deep into theright field leachers. Well, that would
give the Reds the league. Ohdid you come, big boy, Tommy
Throll? That is out of here. DJ Friedel with a two run home
(20:08):
run into the sundeck in right fieldsecond times and charm my partner. Oh
my goodness, three to one rendsabsolutely incredible. That was the call on
Saturday. You want to talk aboutcalling your shot man, TJ. Frido's
(20:30):
got folks calling the shot for him. Oh did you call it? Big
mooy Tommy throll YEP. Now withthat, Austin, we're gonna go ahead
and name TJ. Friedel as ourpower player of the weekend for the Reds.
Let's go teach Brought to you bythe Cincinnati Tax Resolution powered by Tope
Sheldon. TJ. Friedle Austin.Since coming back for the Reds lineup,
(20:56):
he's made a difference, giving themthat stability in the lineup. Good things
coming. And I don't think youcan look past Austin the fact that as
TJ. Friedel has come back andgotten more comfortable in the lineup, we're
seeing the Reds have more success.Yeah. I saw some conversation about that
over the weekend on social media abouthow he just kind of allows the lineup
(21:18):
to work the way it's supposed towork and allows David Bell to platoon those
outfielders and pick those right situations whereStuart Fairchild might get an at bad or
Jake Freeley might get an at bador what Will Benson is going to do
and where he's going to be inthe lineup and so on. He just
kind of is the key that unlockseverything and Tony in seventeen games this year.
(21:40):
TJ. Friedel already has three homeruns now hitting over three hundred and
over his last seven with seven runsbatted in. He struck out just five
times in his last twenty three atbats. TJ. Friedel ban the agent
of chaos, the catalyst, haveno fear toaf is here man. TJ.
(22:00):
Friedel and the Reds. They wonThursday. We talked about that Friday,
and then Friday night Nick Lodolo tookthe mound and he won as well.
Nick Loodolo six innings, four hits, one on run, two walks,
seven strikeouts, and talked about thisbefore Reds got on the board.
First scored early enough. Tyler Stevensonhad an RBI two run double in the
(22:25):
fourth, fair Child had an RBIsingle in the fifth. That three to
nothing lead was able to hold.Lodolo did give up a solo home run
to Dansby Swanson in the sixth, and then Alexis Diaz, who we will
talk about again. Austin had anotherwalk in the ninth, gave up a
hit in the ninth. Things gota little bit harry again with Alexis Dz
(22:47):
on the mound, but the Redswere able to win three to two with
just five hits in a game onFriday night. Those hits came from Stuart
Fairchild, Jamer Candellerio Tyler Stevenson,t Jay Friedel and like done, I'm
a little bit concerned about the bullpen, a little bit concerned. Emilio Pagan
goes back on the injured list.Prior to yesterday's game, David Bell said
(23:10):
he won't be back until after theAll Star break. With the latch strain,
Alexis Diaz just does not look good, like he's nothing to draw on
consistently for the year. Yeah,I don't know who you feel best about
at the end of games, becauseFernando Cruz probably has the most talent,
but his role is that first guyout of the bullpen to extend the game
(23:30):
and give you a chance. He'sexcellent at and I don't necessarily want to
remove him from that spot. BrentSouter very well may start tomorrow's game.
And it be a bullpen game. And I think you like what you've seen
from Carson Spyers. Lucas Sims hashad his own control problems and given up
long ball problems. I don't knowwho I feel best about at the end
(23:52):
of the game. You know, like Buck Farmer always gives up a walk
in two hits, but he somehowgoes as scorely. Yeah, but like
I just I don't feel good aboutAlexis Diaz and the Reds have luckily turned
the tide on some of those closegames, but man, I don't know
that you can feel confident with himmoving forward right now. That's concerning to
(24:14):
me. Yeah, that that isa fair concern, and it's a conversation.
We'll have more about the pitching staffSaturday. And what you and I
both described on Friday as the beststart time available for a Reds weekend game.
It's the four to ten start broughtmore winning for the Cincinnati Reds.
It was a slow start for AndrewAbbotca Dansy Swanson double scored Cody Bellinger in
(24:34):
the first and then that was ituntil the sixth. The next three runs
came off an answer immediately in thebottom of the first from Jamer Candelario on
a home run, the TJ.Friedel home run in the bottom of the
third that you just heard coming backfrom break there, and then a freed
Old ground out that scored India inthe fifth, and again, as you
mentioned Austin Emilio Pagan is no longerwith the team. He gave up two
(24:56):
hits in a run. Fernando Cruzalso gave up two hits in a run.
But Andrew Abbitt five innings, fivehits, one earned, four walks,
five strikeouts. He wasn't the sharpestAndrew Abbit we've seen, but he
did enough to give this team anotherchance to win, and they did just
that. Out hit again on Saturday, four runs and six hits compared to
(25:17):
ten hits for the Chicago Cubs.Freed Old, de la Cruz, Candelario,
Steer, Freiley, India all withhits on a Saturday, which brought
the Reds to within just one gameAustin of five hundred and then they couldn't
get over the hurdle yesterday, inlarge part due to some Frankie Muntas struggling
(25:41):
early in the game. He threwjust fifty five pitches on the day,
and inning in a third, fivehits, four runs, three walks,
and two strikeouts. It was threeto nothing before the Reds could even take
their first bat of the game, due to a three run RBI double off
the back of Reds killer Ian Happin the top of the first. Cubs
(26:03):
added another in the bottom or thetop of the second. And then you
mentioned at Austin. Carson Spears comesin, he goes five and two thirds,
four hits, seven strikeouts, noruns allowed. Brent Souter comes in
a perfect inning. Buck Farmer comesin a little trouble somehow doesn't give up
a run. But you look atmon Toss yesterday and any of the third
(26:26):
four runs, and you tell theReds team and the way the offense had
played as of late, Hey fiveis gonna win this game? You would
still take that. Oh yeah,Luke Maley hit a home run yesterday.
I do question a little bit.Santiago Espinal hits a single in the seventh
that scores Spencer Steer. India getsthe third and Espinal's thrown out trying to
(26:47):
stretch it into a double. Don'tI get that they're aggressive? That didn't
seem like the time, because itfelt like they were mounting something. They
were finally starting to hit a littlebit. It finishes four to two,
and again the Reds out hit elevento five. That seemed to be a
theme of the weekend. They somehowwon the first two games despite being out
(27:10):
hit. Spencer Steer, Jonathan India, Santiago Espino, and Luke Maley combined
for the five hits for the CincinnatiReds. I look at yesterday's game,
as you know, rough start fromFrankie Muntas and Shota I. Monaga was
just awesome. He was just betterlike yesterday. It was like one of
those games where the Cubs are abetter team today. You want to sweep.
It's not good. It's not funto lose. You had some opportunities.
(27:33):
The espinall play sticks out. Butit's just one of those days where
the Chicago Cubs were a better baseballteam yesterday. But we can also again
the Reds have gotten themselves somehow backto thirty two and thirty four. And
it was for a moment there yesterdayit felt like five hundred was there for
the taking. But here's the interestingpart about and let's say this before I
(27:55):
get to the interesting part. Theone thing that I did struggle with Muntas
yesterday, Austin Immenaga came out andthrew eight pitches in the first inning,
went right after the Reds hitters. That was the first time the Reds have
ever seen in Minaga. It wasalso the first time, though that the
Cubs had seen Montas. But itseemed like muntas thought process was he had
(28:17):
to pitch around everybody, He hadto be perfect, whereas Immanaga just went
up there and said, here's mystuff. It's the first time you're seeing
a good luck hitting it. Hewas aggressive, he went out the hitters.
Untas did not do that. Hegot behind in counts, pitching from
behind, and that is just arecipe for disaster against any team in Major
league. Whenever you're on the moundin the big leagues, you can't be
(28:41):
afraid of your opponent. No,and it felt like he was a little
bit. Did kind of feel likehe was, and you think back to
the way he pitched in Colorado. The Rockies are not a very good team,
but that's a difficult place to play. I think sometimes pitchers can take
the mound and be afraid of theenvironment they're in, which is certainly something
that gets in the mind of pitcherswhen they're in Denver at that altitude.
And he was fantastic, had ano hitter going for a while, and
(29:03):
he had the best start, orhe did something in his start that no
pitcher has ever done in that ballparkfrom the opposing team. And so to
go from one to the other. And oh, by the way, it's
harder to pitch there, just becauseyour pitches don't move as much to begin
with. And so he just lookedlike an entirely different guy. Just didn't
have it on a day like yesterday. Couldn't throw strikes. Don't know if
(29:23):
it was a and if it wassomething with the fundamentals, if with his
mechanics, don't know exactly what itwas, but he just couldn't throw strikes.
Yeah, something to continue to watchwith Frankie Montoss. But again,
they have gotten themselves out of thecellar, tied for second in the NL
Central. They're right in the thickof the wild card. Now here's the
(29:44):
interesting part, Austin. They havefought, fought to get back to where
they were and where they are nowhere's the difference you get an off day
to day here come one of thebest teams in Major League Baseball in the
Cleveland Guardians. Yeah, believe theyhave the third best record in Baseball.
And then on the road at Milwaukee, which, for whatever reason, the
Reds seem to always struggle when theygo to Milwaukee. And then a team
(30:08):
that I'm going to talk about alittle bit more today, Austin the Pittsburgh
Pirates on the road. The Piratesall of a sudden if And I found
it odd because I was reading anarticle today on ESPN dot com about Buster
only talking about tradeline rumors and funthings to watch. Can you imagine the
(30:30):
conversation in Pittsburgh right now? They'vebeen dealers at the deadline for seemingly since
I can remember. They have arun differential of minus seventeen, but they're
a half game back for that thirdwild card spot. Can you imagine getting
in a playoff series with Paul Skeins, Mitch Keller, and Jared Jones.
Yeah, that changes the whole thinkingif you're Pittsburgh for sure. And I
(30:52):
think that's part of the thinking forNick Crawl too, correct is like,
Hey, we got these pictures thatcan win us a playoff series. Yep,
and that is going to dictate Ithink a lot of behavior. And
you look at the National League, dude, it's fun. Right now,
the Padres, Cubs, Reds Giants, or the Padres are half a game
up on the Cubs, Reds,Giants, and Cardinals, who are all
essentially tied for the last wild cardspot. And then there's three teams behind
(31:15):
them within again in a game anda half, Washington, Arizona, and
Pittsburgh. There's only and then theMets are even just three games out.
So there's only two teams in theNational League that are truly out of it,
Colorado and Miami, at least theway I see it right now,
out of it eight and a half, nine and a half games back.
I mean, it's gonna be fun. I think when you look at the
rest of the league in the NLWest, you're kind of rooting for the
(31:36):
Dodgers to fall. Yeah, theReds won. The Reds won that season
series with them, so you're kindof rooting for either the Padres or Diamondbacks
or somebody else to win that divisionbecause the Reds lost the season series to
those two teams. But yeah,it's just it's gonna be great, man.
It's a lot of fun, andwe've talked about it. Can they
get to five hundred by the endof the month, Well, if they
(31:56):
can get the two or three gamesover five hundred, and then how they
do before the All Star break?Does that mean Nick Caral picks up the
phone before July thirtieth? My onlygets out ahead of it. My only
concern now is this next three series, four series, because you have Boston
after that. You've worked so hardto get yourself back in it. You
got to keep playing good baseball. You got to hold serve against Cleveland for
(32:17):
the next you're off today, thenext two days after that, and you've
got to find a way to playbetter against Milwaukee and hopefully by the end
of the week. A different conversationis being had about the Cincinnati Reds.
We do have to have a conversationwhen we get back, though you brought
this up a little bit earlier inour pre show meeting in Austin. Do
the Reds have a little bit ofa pitching concern problem right now? Let's
(32:38):
dive in more of that when weget back at cinty three to sixty A
service of Skyline Chile on ESPN fifteenthirty Cincinnati Sports This is ESPN fifteen thirty
and iHeartRadio station. Hey we're back, cinty three sixty, Welcome back.
(32:59):
Thank it us, Eyeline Chili. You're listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
Station or via the iHeartRadio app.Either way, thank you for listening in
today. Leave your talk back. We'll get to those in uh. In
our number two, I'm trying tofigure out, Austin, how we can
make every show feel like what Fridayshow felt like. It's a mentality that
(33:22):
was one of my most mindset. That was one of the most enjoyable fridays
I can remember doing. You know, I thought this when I left on
Friday. I thought that was ourbest week of shows that we've ever put
them together, Like, from fromMonday to Friday, I thought that was
the best week we'd ever done. And from a you know, you take
pride in that, but it alsoraises the expectation. Yeah, so now
(33:44):
what can you do next? Andthat's kind of where we sit right now.
You got to hate to lose morethan you love to win. Man
oh Man, win Man, unbelievable, well said, all right, Reds
have won a lot as of late. We we've talked a lot about the
positives of everything that the Reds havegoing on right now, the winning streak
(34:05):
that just came to a halt.If you still look though they've won eight
of their last ten, they haveabsolutely gotten after it. That's tied for
the best ten game span in MajorLeague Baseball with the New York Yankees.
They have played themselves back into theconversation. Do you remember when they lost
to Saint Louis series Austin, Wesaid, you know, it's crazy because
(34:25):
two weeks before that everyone had kindof written Saint Louis off. And if
you can have that one to twoweek stretch where you just play really good,
you play yourself right back into things. And that's what the Cardinals had
done when they came into Cincinnati. But it's not what the Reds have done
since won a series against the Cubs, swept the Rockies, took three or
four from the Cubs. They haveplayed themselves right back into where they need
(34:51):
to be. But with all ofthat happening rather quietly, there has been
some interesting developments with the pitching stafIt started with Graham ass Craft going down
to Triple A and when Graham Asscraftwent down Austin, everyone said the same
thing, right, Hopefully that meansBrandon Williamson is close. Brandon Williamson is
now on the sixty day injured list. He's not close. Emilio Pagan is
(35:15):
gone, not expected back till afterthe All Star break. And I do,
like I'll say, I love whatthe Reds have from the top of
their rotation standpoint right now, withhow good Hunter Green and Nick Lodolo and
even Andrew Abbott have been after that, are you starting to feel any level
(35:36):
of concern? Mon toss up anddown. There's been a lot of good,
but a nodding like yesterday kind ofbrings you back to that realization that,
you know, let's be honest, how much do you concern yourself with
montass just hasn't gone a full seasonin a long time? Yeah, Where
is his level of endurance at?Where is the arm strength at? As
he does something and gets into unchartedterritory because he's missed so many games.
(35:58):
You mentioned Alexis Diaz. We couldtalk about more bullpen arms. Is there
a conversation or a concern at leastin your opinion, with the pitching staff
for the Reds. Yeah, tome, I'm I'm a little bit concerned,
a little bit concerned because Montas asyou mentioned, health three out of
ten, four out of ten.Health has been an issue over the course
of his career, and he's beenreally inconsistent this year. He had that
(36:22):
one really really good start. Itwas against Colorado. They're not very good.
They have some guys and tough placeto pitch. I get that,
but they're not very good. AlexisDiaz I don't trust whatsoever. Put Gon
back on the injured list. Williamsonno timetable for his return. Ian Jabou
continues to have setbacks. Not likehe's coming back. Nick Martinez inconsistent,
(36:44):
awful as a starting pitcher, notvery good or much better coming out of
the bullpen. Graham Ashcraft is goingto have space down in Triple A to
figure out his issues. No onereally seems to know how long that's going
on. Mean, in baseball,I think it's like aship. It is.
It's a relationship with the big things. Graham needs to go figure some
(37:07):
things out. But now, ifyou're the Reds, can you afford to
give him very much space before yousay, okay, we need you to
come back up here now. CarsonSpiers has been wonderful over the last few
starts. He struggled earlier this season, but you don't have as much confidence
in him. I wouldn't walk acrossthe street to see Buck Farmer pitch,
Unfortunately, I've done it a coupleof times now. But I think it
(37:31):
almost feels like to me, likethey're holding it all together right now.
It's been good enough, and youmight be able to survive with Green,
Abbott and Lodolo if they just kindof continue down the path that they're on,
which has been solid. They're notdominant, but they're solid. Okay,
you have a chance in three outof five games. I get that,
and maybe it's more of a bullpenday until then, you know,
(37:52):
a bullpen especially this week two daysoff. The suitor has had some success
in that. Martinez has had somesuccess in that. Okay, maybe if
you go back to plan A andNick Martinez is a starter again, I
don't know. I mean they've kindof done that in the past, where
Martinez comes in in the second orthird inning or whatever it might be,
or even in the first inning. So I do feel a little bit of
(38:13):
concern there, I really do.I don't think it's unwarranted. Yeah,
I just maybe I'm I feel betterabout the bullpen than I do the starting
rotation, but I don't feel goodabout Alexis DS and that is not something
I want to go into a stretchof games against National League Central opponents,
(38:35):
very very important games in which that'sthe case. All fair right now when
you look and you have conversations aboutthese Cincinnati right and on top of that,
Hunter Green was supposed to start tomorrowand they've pushed that start back and
that's just to get some rest. And that's with the big picture in mind.
And I do get that. AndNicolodolo has missed some time with injury
(38:55):
already this year. Andrew Abbott willprobably have a couple of those moments.
It's where maybe they skip a starter, they give him some extra days.
They've already done that at times thisyear. So can they continue to do
this and keep gas in the tankfor a stretch run? Is a little
bit of what of what I'm concerned? Yes, And again I'm with you
in the fact that it is genuineconcern for the Cincinnati Red It's not an
(39:19):
alarming level, but it is somethingyou have to if you're Nick Crawl,
you have to start looking into orpossibly concerning yourself with mentioned before they're off
today Ohio Cup. Over the nexttwo days here in Cincinnati. The first
installment of that a road trip tothe Milwaukee Brewers and then at the Pittsburgh
Pirates before coming home. I believethat's the Boston Series, and then the
(39:44):
Pirates again. M h and thenagain it does and right now has the
fifth best pitching staff in Major LeagueBaseball. They're very, very good pitching
staff. And it does continue todrive in the importance of the games that
you need to win, especially theCentral because you're gonna get Milwaukee, and
then in a nine game stretch youget six against Pittsburgh, You'll take the
(40:07):
Saint Louis Cardinals three more, andthen oh, by the way, you're
on the road at the arguably thebest team in baseball in the New York
Yankees. Early July. Yeah,So get to five hundred or better at
the end of June and keep yourselfin the conversation. Let's look around the
rest of Major League Baseball. Whenwe come back to wrap hour one,
we'll have a trade deadline conversation beforeTalkbacks and then a lot of Bengals and
(40:30):
other loose ended topics as we continuetill three o'clock with your phone calls as
well. Five to one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen
thirty. This is Sincy three sixty. Thank you in large part to our
friends at Skyline Chile on ESPN fifteenthirty. Hey Alexa, what's going on
in baseball? Getting ESPN fifteen thirtyfrom iHeartRadio. What a nice little lead
(41:01):
in there, Austin, Hey,Lexa, what's going on in baseball?
We'll get to that at the topof our number two because we just have
about a minute or two left inthat time. Let's take a phone call.
He is still the current acting presidentof Talkback's Johnny is calling and what's
up? Johnny, Tony and awesomeon one hour of sleep here, How
are you guys doing? Welcome back? You sound resting? Are you back
(41:22):
above the equator? I am this, believe me. The trip was nothing.
It was not rest as you wouldthink, too much party. I
was on three planes last night.Air Force one can only go so far,
right, But no, I'm backin Cincinnati, Ohio. Yes,
(41:44):
thanks Connie. It was my inlaw sister's wedding congress. All right,
destination wedding, YEP. I wantedto talk about yesterday's Reds game, which
I know you're gonna get into tophour two kind of lead into that,
yes, please, very good baseballgame. Honestly was I was on the
(42:06):
edge of my seat trying to followalong on the play by play on the
phone, because when you try toaccess seven hundred W l W and Ecuador,
they tell you you're too far away. Good to know why. I
heart media, But what do youguys think was the problem in yesterday's game?
(42:28):
Why did we not win that inthe seventh inning we should have tied
up the game and inning? Whydid we not do that? Yeah,
I mean I think the decision tosend Santiago Santiago espinal and try to stretch
a single into a double, Ithink it was just wrong place, wrong
time. I think if that's inthe first inning or second maybe you try
to be aggressive and set a tone. But seventh inning, when you're trailing
already, I don't know that I'mtrying to stretch a single into a double
(42:50):
at that point. I think Iagree. I also think you got to
give it to the Cubs pitching staff. I mean, they pitched that heck
of a game, especially you're closerthat last INNY. Friend of mine that
the Cubs fan said he has neverpitched a one, two, three out
closing Inny. So yeah, hegot a bonus check out. And I
(43:10):
think it's it's major league baseball. There are going to be days when you
come to the ballpark and the opposingpitcher is just better. That's that's baseball.
And I think yesterday, look, you're on a winning streak, you're
playing great baseball, You're gonna comeacross a pitcher. We talk about that
on the opposite for the Reds allthe time the Cubs had been going through
(43:31):
a slump, they had been struggling. Who for the Cubs can get the
ball and say not today and yesterdaythat was Imanaga. The Reds have had
that in Hunter Green and then Nicolodolothis year. They just ran across a
pitcher that was pitching really well yesterday. And on those days you tip your
cap and you move on. Andnow the key for me is don't let
one game turn into two to turninto three, take the off day to
(43:53):
day, and then go back andwin game one. Against the Guardians tomorrow.
You know what, let's see ifthe Reds they're for real, you
win seven to row. You havekind of a tough loss on Sunday.
How do you respond this week? How do you respond against the Guardians?
Are you really the rally Reds orYeah? Gonna make me want to start
talking about the elections again. Youknow, let's figure that out. Very
(44:16):
good, Johnny. Do you thinkhave we finalized candidates? No candidates are
incoming, I would assume, andAustin and I have we loosely talked about
this. Once I get back frombaby duty, We're going to dive into
it more. Austin, if youneed a someone to fill in a segment
or two or something, Oh,shooting me a call, and I'm stilling
(44:37):
offense. I'm not going to beout of the country anytime soon. I
can't do that again. My body. I can't sleep on plane. Can
you guys sleep on playing? Nothat I can barely sleep at all.
So let alone on a plane.I want. I want slew fifteen hours
to South Korea, got probably twentyminutes to sleep the entire time. Miserable.
Not for me, not for me? Yeah, all right, Johnny,
(45:00):
Thank you guys. Have a coizicyour Monday less stuck, left those
Reds and pets. Let's trek somebeers later tonight now. Yeow I love
rested up, buddy, I loveit. Thank you, Johnny. Great
to hear from you. Yes,that's perfect. When we come back around
Major League Baseball, a little ofthe UH trade deadline conversation, we'll parlay
(45:21):
that into talkbacks and then switch gearsafter talkbacks to more Bengals and more of
your phone calls as well. It'sfive one, three, seven, four
nine, fifteen thirty. This isCincy three sixty thanks to Skyline Chile on
ESPN fifteen thirty. Father's Day isfast approaching. This is Cincy Shirts Cincy
three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy

(46:07):
for sincey Shirts here each and everyday, especially right here in hour number
two before we get into the restof Major League Basebaston, did you see
that Joe Burrow sent Ellie Da LaCruz a gift? I just saw that,
you know. He a Jersey,he said to Ellie, keep turning
up the city signed it, Joeyb love it. Do you think he's
signing now with his left since he'snot thrown right now? He think he
(46:29):
still signs with the right. That'sa great question. And if you receive
that, if you're Ellie, likedid he just send it? Did he
drop it off? How did heget it? Just a couple of lock
down and yeah, if that's thecase, if you're Ellie, you've immediately
got to send one back, right, Yeah, you have to send one
back. Joe probably has a guythat would be my guest. Yeah,
(46:49):
said, hey, can you sendthis over to Big l there you go
make sure Elle gets What do wethink Joe does like on his own Is
he certainly doesn't grocery shop? Yeah, that's a good question, Like does
he pump his own gas? Ithink so that's probably like the extent of
(47:09):
it, right, maybe not.I don't know. I rarely see him
around town, almost never, LikeI know, a couple of like plays,
but like, but you never younever like randomly see like a picture
or video of Joe Burrow out somewhereright Like there was a few times,
probably plays a ton of Madden. There was a few times when I would
(47:30):
be in traffic and I would lookover and I saw Andy Dalton, Like
that happened somewhat frequently. Yes,I've never experienced that with Joe Burrow,
Like you don't really see him,Like he didn't go to Zips for a
Burger and Mount Lookout or anything likethat. You see Zach Taylor around.
I feel like I don't like, what does what does Joe do? Like
(47:52):
in Cincinnati? M I understand he'sa private guy, yep, But like
does he stop by Kroger to pickup mill? No, he doesn't do
that. Does he pump his owngas? Mmmm? It's not who's pumping
it? Who who fills the carup for him? Man? Great question?
And if these rumors are true abouthim now being single, oh,
(48:15):
I feel like there's even more opportunitiesfor him to be out and about them.
Oh, you know what I mean? You don't hear much about like,
like I know his parents essentially livehere now you know it was last
week, like there was that videolike Kayleb Williams were just in like a
random bar in Chicago, him andRoma Dunes. Like you don't see that
with Joe Burrow. Yeah, andI understand that's not your scene. No,
I'm talking about tasks necessary to thecontinuation of life. You never go
(48:37):
on a shopping trip. Yeah,he must be an online guy and that's
okay. Sure, And you know, but does he go and pick it
up and they loaded in the backof the car or do you want somebody
to deliver it to your right right? I don't know that I'd want people
deliver in it. This is agood question. These are the things if
(48:57):
we got the interview with Joe Burrow, this is what I would ask him.
I don't care about the football,Yeah, I care about the show.
If you're listening, we're not gonnabug you about the wrist or anything
like that. You just want toknow about Joe the person. We'll say,
Hey, Joe, how you feeling. We know he likes they know
he likes a couple, maybe aGuinness or two. Yeah, and then
he'll give us some cookie cutter answerabout feeling good, feeling good, and
then we'll say who pumps your gasand then we'll just go from there.
Yeah, this is what makes usdifferent. Football be damned, what about
(49:22):
life? We're different? Yeah, you know, athletes, people forget town
athletes are human beings. Amen.Amen, Where the UFO's at? That's
what i'd ask him. That's aneven better conversation. Yep, yeah,
man, those are the conversations I'dlove to have. Oh yeah, absolutely.
By the way, quick update inthe Dan Hurley situation, Adam Zagoria,
(49:45):
basketball insider for New York Times,Sports, Forbes and others uh says
that Yukon's men's basketball practice has beenmoved from two pm to noon. No,
so this is He posted this attwelve o eight, right after one
hour ago. Right now, youthink that'd be a good thing for Yukon.
Dan Hurley is not yet on campus, but police are there anticipating a
(50:08):
potential scene. Quote. Nobody knows, one source said, nobody knows.
How do you move the the practiceup and the coach isn't there, who's
running the practice? Who's running thenow? He was with one of his
assistants, Sean Murray, Bill Murray'skid. He was at the Billy Jold
concert with him this weekend. Yeah, having fun. Yeah. Apparently maybe
(50:31):
maybe that the police are there forthe Brinks truck that's gonna drop off his
next contract to Yukon. Yeah, some security or maybe Genie Buss sent the
security could be help him get outof there with all the bags of money
he's gonna Seth. Seth Davis issaying there's going to be a Yukon a
press conference at Yukon, which,in Seth's mind says that seals it for
him. You don't hold a pressconference to announce bad news. Uh,
(50:54):
So we are monitoring closely Dan Hurley, even though no one here really cares
about Yukon or the Laker. Here'sthe thing, he's a Bengals fan.
Welcome to Cincy three sixty. Becausenow I'm like a squirrel out in the
wild and my attention has just beencompletely diverted from what I wanted to talk
about with baseball in the trade deadlineto the question have you seen at all
(51:16):
the Netflix show How To Rob aBank? No, I've never seen.
Okay, it's new. It's likean hour and a half. I rob
him on like Red Dead Redemption whenI played but I'm gonna tell you,
I watched it last night. Ithink I could go rob a bank right
now. Oh no, They theyinterview one of the jeneral. This guy's
(51:37):
name was Hollywood. They nicknamed himHollywood, and he this dude was a
bank robber. Oh my goodness.I think he robbed nineteen banks in Seattle
for over two million dollars. Ohmy god, in like a four or
five year stretch. Lived in atreehouse, like super strange, dude,
what's the point if you can't likecorrect correct live your life? Okay?
Sorry? He had folks baffled, and it was one FBI agent that finally
(52:01):
pieced together, like he had agood idea of one of the three banks
he would target next and win.He actually picked the exact date that he
was going to hit a bank.So they went into the banks and they
finally started like putting this was Ibelieve in like the nineties, So they
put like little trackers in the bankin the vaults inside the money when he'd
(52:22):
go in there and take that andhoping that he'd take one of the wads
of cash and divvy it up.Now, he ended up dying in a
shootout, but The other two thatwere like his accomplices, are now out
of prison, and they gave likeevery detail of how they did these heist,
so much so Austin that one ofthese heist, This is how good
(52:44):
this guy was. He didn't takeanyone in the bank with him. He
walked in, he put on likea mask, he put on like fake
mustache, glasses, longer hair, walks in and all he would do,
hold up a gun. Everyone staycalm, this is a robbery. He
would have the the teller taken backto the vault. He'd clear the vault
and they'd be out of there. They had someone on watch. One of
(53:05):
the banks he robbed where he gotaway with a ton of cash. He
robbed the bank. He went outto the van which was parked like next
to the bank, and they hadcut out a sheet underneath the floor of
the van and he hid under that. So he was literally hiding there while
the police did their whole investigation. If you would have looked in the back
through the windows, you would haveseen nothing in the back of the van.
(53:29):
And the accomplice sat in a coffeeshop next door, waited until the
cops left, and then just gotin the car and drove away. Unbelievable.
I I think I could get Ithink I could rob one. Well,
not that I ever would. Yeah, please don't all right, yeah,
please don't do it, not thatI ever would. But why are
you putting that show out there?Because there's got to be people that are
(53:50):
thinking the same thing I am.Oh, I could do that, right,
I don't need to rob fifteen.Just give me one and I'm good.
Yeah, mine works on sinc threesaid yeah, talking about a Brinks
truck. I'm trying to figure outbacking into Yukon to a Netflix series.
I'm trying to figure out what thepurpose of that show is. I am
too other than us talking about itand people talking about it, and I
(54:13):
guess it's entertaining. So I guessI just answered all the questions I had.
But man, or maybe it's youknow, to phase out the stupid
people who think they could really doit. Now, do you know what
his downfall was? What was hisdown couldn't walk away? He stopped doing
it for money. It's like agambler, and he started doing it just
because of the thriller dave him. That's so That's what I was gonna say.
The rush of like yeah, you'reunderneath that van, or if you're
(54:36):
the accomplish next door to coffee shop, of like your your heart's got to
be pounding out of your chest. There was a Arenaline his last heist.
There was a girl he knew thathe was having like lunch with and she
was like, I keep having thisdream that you're killed in gunfire. Wow,
And he she said, he gotlike pail fay. He said,
(54:57):
you know, I'm probably never goingto see again. When he left,
and she's like, where are yougoing? He's like, I'm going to
live in like Mexico. So andI'm like and that was the only like
his accomplice even was like going intothe last one, he's like, I
don't think we should do this whenit doesn't feel right. They're getting closer
because he robbed like two banks andhe knew the electronic device were in there.
He would get in the truck,go through, find them and toss
them out. But they knew theywere getting closer, and they just couldn't
(55:22):
stop. He just didn't know whento get out of it. Now that
brings me to a question, Uh, dreams, Oh what do you think
about? Like do you think yourdreams try to tell us things. I
think they do. I think solike that woman a friend of his,
yeah, has a dream that thisguy has killed in gunfire, and he
(55:44):
was killed in gunfire. Correct.Uh. I feel like dreams can try
to tell you a things. Sure. Now. I think sometimes have a
struggle remembering my Like I wake upsometimes and I'm like, man, that
was an intense dream, and thenlike an hour later, I'm like,
I don't even remember what. Yeah, you don't remember what the details are,
but I knew it, yeah,Which is crazy because like there's things
(56:05):
that have kind of altered my mindto the idea of like, oh my
gosh, like I have to dothis and I have to say this to
this person, like was what isthis trying to tell me? And so
on and so forth. Yeah.Crazy Yah. Another thing, by the
way, I saw over the weekendspeaking of a bank robbery. I saw
that Welcome to our show, butI saw there was a bank robbery and
(56:27):
there was a man that was holdingtwo people hostage behind the desk, and
the front door of the bank isopen, and the swat team is there
and they're trying to negotiate with thisguy. This guy has a gun.
He's got two people wrapped around hisarms basically, and he's in the middle
of them trying to talk to theseSWAT people. Meanwhile, the swat team
(56:52):
has a sniper that you that hecan't see. And this sniper takes a
shot. It goes through a communitya computer monitor. Wow, and in
between this guy's eyeballs what and savesthe two hostages man and the guy just
falls to the ground. And thatsniper was standing up with the barrel of
(57:15):
his gun resting on the arm ofanother officer and he made that shot.
Is that not insane? Yes,that is insane, And that's why I
would never rob a bank. That'sa good point. I take back what
I said. I don't want toget away with number one. I'm a
good guy. Number two, Idon't feel like dying yet. Uh number
three, that's really the only two. Yeah, good point, Yeah,
(57:37):
all right. H One of ourBett segments also, don't think I could
rob one at all. I'm notsmart enough free, and I would have
the exact opposite reaction of like,I would be petrified for the rest of
my life. Yep, I wouldn't. I wouldn't have like thrill. No,
apparently like the first guy in theseries that did the first one with
him, after it was done, just like moved a call. He was
(57:59):
out. He was smart. Guy, I'm done because I'm just looking over
my shoulder, and he was good. He got out of it. Now,
do you know that making a documentaryabout Chiefs of Holk, Yeah,
I did. He was doing thesame thing. Yep. He funded his
chief super fan hood fan life, superfan life by robbing banks and they finally
caught him. Unbelievable. On Tuesday'sedition of Cincy three to sixty, we'll
(58:22):
dive into more erratic fan behavior.Yeah. For those out there that we're
listening in our super mad right nowbecause you wanted to hear trade deadline conversations,
you're super major League Baseball and youwanted to hear around major League baseball.
We might not be the show foryou. Tune in after talkbacks and
we'll dive into more around major LeagueBaseball because for now it's your talkbacks.
(58:45):
When we get back information from NoelvieMarte with the media today, we've got
some information about him and his suspensionthere it is. This is Sincy three
to sixty, a service of Skylinechili or I'm sorry, service of CINTI
sharts on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati SportsStation thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, Talkbacks,
(59:32):
Talkbacks. Hey, ton Hey,Audie Kevin in Northern Kentucky. Here,
Tony be thinking. I'm praying aboutyou and Meredith this week. I pray
everything works out well. I knowyou're both very excited for that baby to
be here, and we're excited foryou. All red legs. They didn't
get the serious sweep, but theygot the serious dub, and you know
what, I'll take that every time, Fellas. Now for Carl's thought of
(59:55):
the Week, Mar Tayter, allright, man, thank you, Carr,
Austin and Antonio's boomer drew from Southbed boom. A great series against
the Cups. But today is myson Thomas's birthday. Happy birthday, Thomas.
Ever reason right? They just cameup with a sixth hole and I
(01:00:16):
just got a hole in one onmy son's birthday. What real, man?
This is just the best? Areyou serious? Guys? Wow?
Unbelievable. I feel like there shouldhave been more excitement than know. He
seems to be uh and where areyou golfing? So I know where you're
buying the drinks. Oh my goodness, a hold in one for Boomer Drew.
(01:00:38):
Unbelievable man Man Austin, what's upas Ice Man? Here on the
road back to Cincinnati. Spent theweek at Myrtle Beach, had a wonderful
time. What the beat does?Wats Reds on their seven game winning Street
of Fortunate they couldn't win yesterday. It's all right, Dad, we are
(01:00:58):
at second place. Sixth game, six games out. We are back.
Baby, Let's go, Let's go. Let's go, Hotter TP fifteen gentlemen.
How about those Reds? Baby aboutthem? The power of the stash
(01:01:19):
man getting it done. Also, big props to the uk Batcats making their
first ever World Series in Oma Hallthis weekend. Go big Blue, Go
Rads, Let's go. Can wepotentially get a visual of the stash This
has been growing now for a littlebit. Can we can we see where
things are at? We want tosee it? Hey, guys, talk
(01:01:40):
back matter Sky, Happy Monday,Tony, congratulations on everything. I know
we've not had the baby yet,but we have not. I know that
everything will be good and well. Thanks for you guys, Meredith and all
that stuff and the kids. AndI'm glad for that. You know things
are going well well, thank you. I just want to talk about the
reds Boro fast I mentioned last week. We need a veteran, a veteran
(01:02:01):
present on the team. Even ifthey don't get a whole lot of bats,
we need somebody on there to helpthem finish strong. You're yeah,
I feel like we've had this conversationfor much of the year and we're continuing
to wait and see who the theveteran leader is going to be. So
if if the season continues and we'restill having this conversation, then the that's
(01:02:23):
obviously a problem going on with theteam that needs to be addressed, right,
Yeah, I guess so. Imean, I think Jamber Candelario counts.
I think Frankie Montas counts. Ithink Brent Suiter counts. I do
think that there is, you know, something there with those guys. I
think Tyler Stevens is doing an extent. He's been around for a while.
Luke Maylee, we heard Joe Danamansay that he thinks Luke Maylee is one
(01:02:45):
of those leaders. Doesn't get alot of that bats. I just don't
know exactly who you're going to bringin that, who are you going to
replace on the roster? Right? That's my question? Where do you go?
Yeah, the reason why we onlytalk about Kaylen Clark and not the
rest of the WNBA is because theleague is trashed. You're tar to watch.
It is awful, and Moger, you know exactly why they are treating
(01:03:06):
Caitlin Clark that way. And it'snot because that's the way every good new
rookie gets treated. No, there'ssomething different. There's something different here and
here. I thought Mo was anice conservative pillar of society, but it
turns out all right, So let'snow Mos getting now most getting Ricochet.
Well, I don't know if hethinks that I'm MO. I don't know
(01:03:29):
where that's coming. Welcome to theshow. This guy leaves a lot of
talkbacks and many of them are very, very stupid, so and it just
kind of says a lot about him. But uh, yeah, okay,
whatever you need to feel better about, I will like to give a shout
out. Please. Did you seethat they they played the Washington Mystics over
the weekend and they moved the gamefrom the original arena, which arena which
(01:03:52):
I think like seats like six thousandand they moved it into an arena that
seats over twenty and they sold itout. They had more people and and
the Mystics haven't won a game yetin the w NBA this year. They
had more people at that game thana game one of the NBA finals.
Man, think about that, Angel, appreciate that. I'd like to give
a shout out to the Mason HighSchool boys. Ye championship. Very well
(01:04:16):
done, right, first time inschool history, which they couldn't believe Mason
won one before. Right. Shoutout to them state champs. Yeah,
always good to hear. Shout outto the Reds playing better. And Drew
Holliday does a great job, man, he's so good. Guardy Irving White
Brown really good defensive guards too.I thought the Biggs for Dallas would be
(01:04:42):
more aggressive, more more serve. They seem passive, they do less physical
than they were against. I agree, very good, very good assessment so
far of the NBA Finals. Rightthere, Fellas Hank Hill, I'll tell
you what. Yeah, that losswas tough. But let me tell you
something, boy, I tell youwhat. I've got a lot of what
(01:05:06):
I've seen games that start out likethat, and in the past they just
get away from your real quick andit goes to ten to two, twelve
to two. At least the bullpenkept us in the game and we had
a chance at the end. Ididn't see any quit in that team after
that early deficit. All right, silver lining from hay Kill. I like
(01:05:28):
it. Hey, guys, youall were talking about pitching earlier. Yep.
We have three starters in the toptwenty five and walks aloud in the
National League, so that doesn't makeme feel great. Diez is also top
fifty and he's only got like twentytwo or twenty three innings. Yeah,
And as far as the bullpen, really, the only two people I feel
decent about coming out is Mall andmaybe Cruise. Am I the only one
(01:05:49):
that thinks Sam Mal is like reallyunderutilized. It does feel like they don't
go to him as much as youwould think they would. Yeah, I
mean some of the big moments they'vegot on to him in the past.
But yeah, Fernando Cruz kind ofbeing that first guy out of the bullpen,
even him, like sometimes I thoughthe just runs so hot that he
just kind of gets gets to itinto it sometimes calm down a little bit.
(01:06:11):
I think he's done a better jobof that. But you're right.
I think Sam Maul has been excellentand maybe is somebody that they're saving for
this stretch runner. You can seea lot more of them, Okay,
but that's the thing when you havethree left handers in the in the bullpen.
Suitor has been solid as of late. Just nailed it there the other
day. So you're gonna they're gonnasplit time. Yeah, Shody, I
(01:06:32):
don't know. I wanted to letyou all know about South American food.
Fun fact, I, as awhite Gringo, learned South American food.
Most of us. I feel likewhat they get spicy, right, spicy,
lackin food flavor. Wrong. SouthAmerican food is not spicy. They
don't like it. The Mexicans.Mexicans like spice. Ecuador, Columbia,
(01:06:55):
Brazil, Land just one back.Still good food though. That sounds like
I'd then right in there. Yeah, I was gonna say, you might
have to go take a trip, which all's take on a reclining on the
airplane. I mean, if they'regiving me that two inch X room,
I don't take it. I meanit's there for a reason, yep,
I mean it's a cold world forthe person behind me, but bundle up.
(01:07:15):
How about the Batcats going to Omaha? That was a gritty gussy performance.
Yeah, it's a gritty gussy team. I could go take it all
man, I'd love to. I'dlove to see him to bundle up after
they show up at Omaha. I'dlove to see nothing more than them knock
off Tennessee somehow in Omaha. Nota fan of reclining on airplane, serial
(01:07:36):
killer stuff, Baseball seasons on newWays. Well let the rent get hot
today, Nanny. What you sayman winds Boom? Yeah, come on,
(01:08:03):
what you say? Red Man?That might be one of my favorite
all time talk backs, right, you know, totally ripping off Go Cubs,
But I love them at the moment. So to what's done? Ryan
vanderhart Man Banger after banger after bangerGo Reds Go. Need to get him
(01:08:26):
signed to an album he'd probably producefor. Jeff Henry. He's down at
the Reds game yesterday and had aninteresting conversation with some Reds fans nearby.
We're talking about potential trades in theRed's biggest need, and two names that
we were talking about were uh Luis, Robert right handed outfielder from the White
Sox and Framber Valdez, left handedstarter for the Astros. Both those guys
(01:08:48):
have been rumored about maybe being available. She could only get one of those,
a right handed outfielder or a frontlinestarting pitcher. What would you want
a thanks both of those names.I'd be happy with either one of those
names. Yeah, I would ratherhave fran Ra Valdez. I think he's
a beast. Keep in mind lastyear the White Sox. First of all,
(01:09:08):
they're an awful, awful organization run. They were asking for the moon
and the stars in the galaxy lastyear for the guys they were trying to
trade. They'll be doing the samefor Luise Robert. The Reds don't have
as deep a pockets this year asthey did last year. And even if
they wanted to trade in Edwin Arroyo, for example, no one's gonna touch
him. He's coming off shoulder surgery. So I don't know that a big
(01:09:30):
splash is on the horizon for theReds, but I do think it's possible
they'll go after someone. I'm surethey'll call about Louise Robert. I think
they'd be foolish not to think they'llcall about jazz Chisholm. I think they'd
be foolish not to you mentioned tome earlier the Toronto Blue Jays are interesting.
Yeah, when it comes to thetrade deadline. So yeah, I
don't know. Yeah. Regarding Joeyb a friend of mine and her grown
(01:09:56):
children saw him out in the wildthe other night last week, eating tacos
at a restaurant called Baker's Field. My friend wanted to take his picture.
Her adult children said no, leavehim alone. He apparently was with four
other players. They had the wholeupstairs to themselves, and he was wearing
white cargo pants. No, awhite hoodie, purple cargo pants. Man,
(01:10:20):
Okay, there you go. Bakersfield'sa pretty popular spot. What do
we make of I know, BryceHarper goes there whenever he's in town.
Now we're now we're going on awhole different tangent. I have a friend
who wears a hoodie even if it'sone hundred degrees out. What do we
make of hoodies when it's hot outside? As a big person, Yeah,
sometimes that just is the most comfortable. Okay, uh yeah, yeah,
(01:10:45):
I just find it found it interestingevery time I see Him's in a hoodie.
Hello, this is heaven from mecoin toss Man, Austin I go.
I was at the at Evandale RecCenter for six thirty jazz er size
(01:11:06):
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Andwhen I was leaving on two Mondays ago,
I saw joe Broh walking on thetreadmilltain. Oh okay, Joey b
at the the rec center. Theeven missed opportunity by women's basketball put Clark
on the Olympic team. Their marketingteam sucks. I heard somebody else on
(01:11:27):
another radio station compare it to goingto a pancake restaurant and hearing about this
new, hot, new pancake andgoing in there to get that, and
then you know the waiter and serversaying, well, you know, we
got these old pancakes that nobody's everbought, But why don't you try that.
We got a lot of these othergreat pancakes. No, I came
here for this pancake. This isthe one I won. Okay, Okay,
(01:11:49):
I get that. I'm surprised she'snot on the Olympic team. I
do think it's kind of silly. But also she's been playing basketball for like
ten months straight and she's showing signsof fatigue in the w n B.
A uh so, maybe it's notthe worst thing in the world. But
then again, so have a coupleof others. Haley van Litz is going,
(01:12:11):
Cameron Brink is going. I getit. I get it. So,
you guys asked a question about noJoe Burrows sidings around the city.
Get Joe everywhere? Man, youever seen a Superman spouted at the local
Kroger? Huh? Man? Youever seen him at the Redding Eye Ga?
(01:12:31):
Yes, yes, yes, sheain't. Never seen Spider Man down
at zips huh think about it?All right, all right, I see
hello, this is former President RonaldRiggan and Wale Audie. I don't know.
I always see Joe Burrow out intraffic. In fact, he is
stopped, I swear to you,he is stopped at the traffic light next
(01:12:53):
to me. Hold on here, hey, Joe, Joe, Oh you're
not you're not Joe. We well, shucks, that's mcully culkin. I
thought it was Joe. Oh well, we are one. And Joey b
had on ug slippers cargo pants. Why ug slippers? And you guys are
(01:13:17):
cracking me up. I love itso much. I'm going to watch the
documentary now. I saw it comeup on Netflix. And if anyone is
super mad about y'all, you're correct, go somewhere else. Thank you,
bye, thank you, bye byebye bye bye, Tony be stick what
up here? Walking around in theneighborhoods on a pleasant day to day with
(01:13:43):
the cool breeze in the air andthe just Warberlin, Hey, Red's had
to lose sometime. Hopefully they canhave more wins and losses. That's the
goal. Let's go Bengals. Comeon, you guys, have another day?
Ever man love, I love thevoice changes for his hoot. Hey
man, hey, I have questions. I'm actually sitting in a Mickey D's
(01:14:10):
right now, and question is whenyou get those individual ketchup packets, you
know, and you first off,do you do you tear it open with
your teeth? And two after yousquirt it and there's a little bit of
ketchup still left on the packet?Do you do you lick that off?
(01:14:31):
I'm just wondering. I don't thingto ask me about, but you know
what, Yes, I've done thatbefore. Okay, it's love, yes,
or I was never seen out inpublic is because he's got all these
endorsement deals, right, Okay,so anything he ever needs, someone's going
to deliver it to him. Thinkabout it. New groceries, Kroger is
(01:14:55):
going to come through. You wantsome wings is at your door? He's
thirsty. Oh there's body armor orGuinness. Yeah, you want some games
Madden, you want some headphones bosI can go on. Yeah, I
get that. Yeah, but eventuallyyou got to go somewhere. Right,
But apparently he went and got tacos. Yeah, that's all we wanted to
go tacos. Maybe Austin. Maybewe're just hanging out in the wrong spot,
(01:15:16):
just like a normal human being.I mean, is Joe Burrow like
me? That about? You know, seven forty six every night? Your
stomach just asked for greaters? Right? Does Joe swing by an ice cream
shot and gets all? I'm justto eat to each their own. We're
just asking the questions. No oneelse owing gerbs Johnny Moon from this.
Yeah, Hey, guys, justwant to let you know my first pitch
(01:15:38):
on Friday night was awesome through aknuckleball. I think was dancing everywhere.
I'm a beast yep. The secondthing there is a pre wreck to throw
that first pitch out. Not manypeople know this, but you must have
won the Redding three on three MemorialDay basketball tournament. That means me in
tone of eligible balling ain't easy,is not and never will be because his
(01:15:58):
game is man. You knew theanswer was coming eventually. Very well done.
People that criticize as women's basketball becauseof the amount of melanin in someone's
skin or the politics they subscribe toare absolute cheeks. I agree this is
(01:16:19):
the I'm not sure if he justjust just listen to this. You need
to bring in Joey Vado. I'mnot sure if he's actually playing right now.
If he's not, you talk aboutbetter in leadership. He would not
be on the on the ball diamond, but he would straighten out this hitting.
(01:16:39):
What do you think, guys?I love the fact that he said
he won't be on the ball diamond. I love that Dave has been living
under a rock. Dave, letme tell you something. In a spring
training game and hit a home run. When he got back to the dugout,
he twisted his ankle. He hasnot played since. It's been months.
(01:17:00):
He's forty plus years old. Whoare you taking off of this team?
To put Joey Vado on. Idon't know. I don't know.
I genuinely know he has has oneprofessional at matt this season. I will
say this with and it was inthe spring training game the utmost respect.
I love our listeners. I loveour listeners. M h so good,
(01:17:28):
yep, barn here, it's beena While's up, man, love the
conversation about the bank Robberies one ofmy favorite movies. Uh, great movie.
You guys never seen it? Highlyrecommended. Okay, there you go.
Watch Dog Day after all? Nobank robbery movie with Alpaccino in the
seventies. Di. Oh good.First of all, I would like to
(01:17:56):
say, wait a minute, somebodyis knocking on car window. No,
I'm not Joe Burrow, I goes, Oh, President Riggan was knocking on
my car window to ask if I'mJoe Burrow. I think he has lost
his mind since he stopped being hey, guys, passive. Paul here all
(01:18:17):
right, Paul, I just wantedto say about the Joe Burrow siding.
I actually grew up in Athens,uh, where Joe's from, and we
didn't see him back there, andthere's probably a third of the people there,
so there's that. Also, thisyoung Reds team has really shown some
resilience, and I love how they'renot allowing the negative posterity of the city
(01:18:42):
and other people to affect them. They're playing their game. Well, oh
he was gonna say, go Reds. I think so. Yeah, maybe
Joe just kind of blends in likehe puts in, puts on a like
the bank robbers. Yeah yeah, okay, hey we got to bring in
you. Well, now you've holdit down, Golden calls loud. I
(01:19:10):
agree, well, said man, well said, we're done for the day.
That uh, that's up there withone of the better talk back days
we've had in a very long time. Unbelievable. Some days you just don't
know when you come into the studiowhat to expect, and then you get
that very well done. Thank youeveryone for uh for your participation today.
(01:19:31):
This is since he three sixty,This has been an unbelievable show. You
wanted Friday energy. Yep, you'regetting welcome to it and you're listening on
ESPN fifteen thirty. It's Cincinnati SportsStation. Thanks to our friends at CINCI.
Shirts and see three sixty continues onESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
(01:20:00):
welcome back, since he three tosixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station a
service of CINCEI shirts. We havejust a couple minutes here. We'll get
the phone calls to kick off ournumber three before we get to any of
that. News from Yukon, Austin, Connecticut's Dan Hurley has has turned down
(01:20:27):
the Lakers six year, seventy milliondollar offer and will return to chase a
third straight national title. Sources tellESPN LA would have made him one of
the NBA's six highest paid coaches.Dan Hurley once famously said, I'm not
a normal person. Nope, thisoffseason he's turned down the Kentucky Wildcats and
(01:20:49):
the Los Angeles Lakers to stay atYukon. That is not something you would
expect a normal person say that. One more time. He has turned down
Kentucky and the Lakers in the sameoffseason, and we'll be returning to Connecticut.
After seeing the details, I don'tblame him. Only six years seventy
(01:21:10):
million is obviously a lot. It'sa lot less in California, but six
years seventy million I would have wantedprobably at least seven. But hey,
it's gonna have plenty of opportunities, and I think at the end of every
coaching cycle for a while, justa lot of headaches too. I mean,
the NBA is different. We've seena long time now coaches that whatever
(01:21:31):
football or basketball, that try togo to the NBA. Patino did the
same thing. That didn't it endwell save in his I mean more times
than not, there are the occasionsit works. More times than not,
It's not a great transition. Yeah, And I get that college is different
now because of the portal and differentthings. But if you truly looked at
(01:21:51):
the situation the Laker job now,I do think it's interesting, sorry,
interesting if it was a different job, because the Laker job AD is as
inconsistent right now as they come.On top of inconsistencies from ad Lebron doesn't
have much left the franchise itself,no equity, they don't have a ton
(01:22:14):
of draft picks, they don't havea lot on the future other than the
contracts they already have milked up.What was the Brownie James situation and all
of that. I think at theend of the day, you can certainly
see why Yukon remained the choice forDan Hurley. A couple of other things
to get to you before we moveon to the last hour of the show.
(01:22:36):
Veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis has nowofficially re signed with the Chicago Bears
one year deal. It is forhis NFL record nineteenth season. Man.
Nobody has gone longer. Marceides Lewiswas a twenty was the twenty eighth overall
pick in the two thousand and sixNFL drafts. Crazy still playing, he
(01:22:59):
was after four years before you that'scrazy? Is that not nuts? That's
crazy coming back. He's forty yearsold to play with the Chicago Bears.
It might be the longest tight endever, might not be the longest contract
ever. And also tone, doyou know what happened eighty years ago today?
I don't, but I'd appreciate youtelling me eighty years ago today.
(01:23:19):
Joe Nuxall made his debut for theCincinnati Reds awesome, the youngest player in
Major league history. He was fifteenyears old. He pitched two thirds of
an innings of an inning for theReds. He ended up going back down
to the minor leagues and played cameback to the big leagues eight years later.
(01:23:39):
Through one hundred and thirty five careergames and one hundred and thirty five
career games, was a two timeAll Star. It was on this date
eighty years ago Joe Nucksall debuted forthe Reds. Awesome. There was one
other piece that I had before weactually get into some more Reds and we
can get into some mandatory mini campconversation along with your phone calls in our
number three. I'm seeing videos again. I feel like this is every every
(01:24:02):
major cycle we see this. Tiger'splaying at Pinehurst today, looks great striping
the ball. Do you think Tigersshould maybe rethink how he approaches these majors,
maybe don't play as many practice rounds, because it feels like everyone we
get to by the second or thirdround, his body is just failing.
I was confused because I saw thathe was playing a practice round yesterday,
(01:24:25):
yeah, and today Thursday. Likeif your body can't hold up, and
we see that each and every week, I don't get what he's doing out
there this early. Yeah, I'ma little bit confused by that. Just
relax, take it easy. What'sthat course? Like you've played? It
is it? Is it difficult onthe body? It is? Is it?
It's physically demanding as well as mentallydemanding. I would, of course,
(01:24:45):
I think Tiger's got the mental partdown, but it's the physical part
I'm worried about. No mental midgetrywith Tiger Woods. Careful, you don't
like that word. You're right. It's time to break. It's time for
our number three of since he threesixty and what has truly that's always so
stupid? What has truly felt likea like a Friday? We're happy to
have you along stick with us forone more hour right here on the ESPDA
(01:25:06):
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, Andthank you to our friends at Cincy Shirts.
Everyone is loving Go Subs Cincy threesixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, countered
in part by Penn Station East CoAsubs, handcrafted hot grilled subs, fresh
cut fries and lemonade. It's allabout good taste. Penn Station East Coast
(01:25:28):
Subs order online today. This isESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. More
breaking news to kick off our numberthree. Thanks to our friends at Penn
Station Tone. Do you know whatthe penn in Penn Station stands for?
(01:25:51):
What's that Pennsylvania? Wow? Youknow who plays in Pennsylvania Punks of Toni
Phil Yes, but also the PittsburghSteelers. Tony tom Pelasero of NFL Network
is reporting that the Pittsburgh Steelers havesigned head coach Mike Tomlin to a three
year contract extension. Never had alosing season through twenty twenty seven, so
(01:26:14):
it appears Mike Tomlin gets a freshstart with a couple of new quarterbacks in
Pittsburgh. Oddly enough, never hada losing season in Pittsburgh. Shout out
to Mike Tomlin. Right, that'swhat I've heard. Huh, that's what
I've heard. Some in AFC NorthNews for you to start off the third
hour a Monday news dump, ifyou will. They've picked a good time,
like great as everybody's losing their mindover Dan Hurley. Yep. Oh,
(01:26:36):
by the way, we signed MikeDomlind. Yeah. I wonder how
that's received in Pittsburgh because early inthe last couple of seasons there's been a
lot of heat towards Mike Tomlin. And I'm a Mike Tomlin fans. Much
as I dislike the Steelers, Ido think Mike Tomlin is a great,
great football coach. I'm interested inhow this is received in Pittsburgh would be
(01:27:00):
I guess my first question when Ihear that news, I want to get
into some more Major League baseball.I wanted to get into some more mandatory
mini camp conversation. Let's start tocall Jeff has been waiting to talk to
us for a minute. What's up, Jeff? Happy Monday, jan Y,
Sirpy Monday. Shout out to Marcusand Ken and all the UK.
It's hopefully Georgia comes through tonight. We get a little preview of September fourteen.
(01:27:24):
Oh no, there we go.That would be a good thing,
definitely. So I missed the beginningof the show, but I caught the
tail end of the talkbacks. Acouple of things on seeing Joe Buddy,
my brother plays golf at McAtee.Well, one of the guys lives on
that street where Joe used to livebefore he moved. People follow him home
from practice. Yeah, and Ican imagine there's a constant parade of cars
(01:27:49):
up and down that street all thetime. And it sounded like Patty,
if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I love you, Patty, you
know that. But pointing out whathe's dressed in from head to toe when
he does go out in public doesn'tmake it any better. It's like Jordan.
You know, when Jordan's like Ican't go to the barbershop, the
barbershop comes to me. And youknow, I'm sure he picks a spot
(01:28:12):
with his boys. And last monthall kinds of speculation on his relationship status,
which is not anybody's business. Andit's just like, you know what,
I got a big new house.I can sit and play video games
all yeah, yeah, yeah,I think that works a contra argument.
I think you guys touching on alittle bit. I heard on Caitlin Clark.
If NBC had the w n BA instead of ESPN, what do
(01:28:35):
you think the odds are that CaitlinClark is on the Olympic team, probably
could be a little different. Ihave no idea. What does the does
the Olympic the people who choose theteam do they are they having conversations with
him? I just think the money, the money involved in that would have
made a different decision. I believeAustin. I know you well enough.
(01:28:58):
I don't think you're that night well. I mean, is their job to
put the best team together or themost entertaining team well, but could those
both could both of those be true? On the beam b Caitlin Clark,
I'll give you a point from shemight sit on the bench and be the
twelfth player and get two minutes agame. This weekend, the Fever team
(01:29:19):
here to play the Mystics. Mysticsnormally play in a four thousand seat gym.
They moved to Verizon Center, soldout the place, and it was
supposedly the first ever million dollar grossin the history of the NBA at the
box office. Yeah, and atthe same time, they outdrew the NBA
Finals by like a thousand fans.Right. I think if you're going to
(01:29:39):
stand on business, which again andwhat is the women's record in the Olympics
four hundred and one thing is thething is no matter who's playing, they're
not going to lose. That's right, that's right. And I think just
the contra argument to what everybody elseis saying is I firmly believe if NBC
had the u NBA contract that she'dbe on the Olympic team. I don't
(01:30:01):
think there's any doubt. Jeff, don't forget to thank Angel Reese for the
Mystics selling out a game against thefever. Yep, it's Angel Reese too.
Don't forget, no, no,no, And this is not any
of the socioeconomics stuff. But Iknow, I know, but I was
thinking that the other day and it'sjust really really interesting. But you know,
(01:30:25):
like Tony said, they're going towin the gold medal no matter what.
And I'm really surprised just to keepgrowing the league. And you know,
again, even if she sits onthe bench, the little girls are
going to tune in and watch it, you know. I mean they'll they'll
be replaying at at three o'clock inthe morning if she's on the team.
So we'll see what happens. Thankyou, Jeff. All Right, guys,
appreciate that we were going to talkabout it. Let's let's let's do
(01:30:47):
this Kaitlyn Clark conversation right now Austin. Kaitlyn Clark has left off team USA
women's roster. Now I don't believeany rookies are on the roster. Your
argument you made earlier and it iswell taken. Kaitlyn Clark went from what
she's done and essentially the college basketballrole she was in to a national championship
(01:31:08):
appearance, to being drafted a monthlater, right into a season. The
argument is she does deserve some restand probably needs some rest now. Christine
Brennan, who is a columnist forUSA Today and she essentially is doing a
lot of coverage for the Olympics, she tweeted out the following that two other
(01:31:34):
sources, both longtime US basketball veteranswith decades of experience in the women's game,
told USA Today Sports on Friday thatthe concern over how Clark's millions of
fans would react to what would likelybe limited playing time on a stacked roster
was a factor in the decision making. If true, that would be an
(01:31:55):
extraordinary admission of the tension that thismultimillion dollar sensation who signs autographs for dozens
of children before and after every game, has caused for the old guard of
women's basketball. The two people spokeon condition where they would remain anonymous because
of the sensitivity to the matter. Here's that would be my issue. If
you're making the decision and saying, you know what rest why she's not there
(01:32:18):
yet, or talent why she's notthere yet. But if you're making a
decision because you're concerned about how themillions of fans would react if she doesn't
get enough playing time. Isn't thata problem in itself? Yes? Absolutely,
you cannot make decisions based on whatthe fans want. And let's be
honest, it feels like an opportunityto grow the game like the nineteen to
(01:32:38):
nineteen ninety two Dream Team did.Yeah, and that that's maybe regardless of
her presence on the team. Theinterest is already going to be heightened because
of just the general more popular Butlet's be honest, the eyes would have
been fixed on anything Caitlin Clark didfor Team USA. She would get a
(01:32:59):
gold medal. She'd add that.Christine Brennan called it the worst US team
slashed athlete decisions he's ever seen whenit comes to the Olympics. Yeah.
Let's also preface this by saying it'snot out of the realm of possibility that
she ends up being an injury substituteat some point between now in July.
(01:33:19):
Sure, that's certainly as possible. But I would say, is it worse
for the potential fan reaction of herbeing on the team and not playing very
much, or the potential fan reactionthat you're dealing with right now, which
is that it got leaked that thisis what your decision was, and that's
(01:33:39):
not a good enough decision, andthat's not a smart decision, or that's
not based on basketball, it's notbased on the right things. Yeah,
I think the outcry that they're goingthrough now is worse than it would be
if she was on a team andnot playing. I could have easily and
you could have easily sold it tosay, yeah, she's on the team,
but look how the college season went. Look she she goes to the
(01:34:02):
championship game, She's then drafted. She's now carrying all this additional weight of
the w NBA on her shoulders, and it has been it has been a
lot because of Angel Rees and thecomments that she made in And if it
was if it's about money, thenand if they're talking to NBC, NBC
would have told her to put themon her, put them on the put
her. But if it's true thatyou're making that decision solely based on you're
(01:34:27):
worried about how her fans will reactto her not playing, ridiculous. Yeah,
and you know they're going to winwithout her, they're going to win
with her. It doesn't really matter. I guess it's almost as if they're
preparing themselves for Hey, if wedon't play very well and she's not playing
very much, you know that's whatpeople would say. But they're gonna win
(01:34:48):
regardless. Sure that I don't getit. Yeah, It's just it feels
like Austin that the w NBA hasmissed more than they've made since Kaitlyn Clark
has been in the league. Imean, that front court for their team
is insane. Asia Wilson Joa Wilson, by the way, as the bestest
(01:35:09):
steward. She's the best player onthe planet in the WNBA. Uh huh,
Sabrina you neesk you Kelsey plumb Likethat's true. Caitlyn Clark would not
have gotten as much time as dothat all the time the men. Don't
they bring along a rookie or aplayer that's getting ready to go into the
league and historically, yes, that'shad experience and have that that understanding of
(01:35:30):
Okay, this is life in thethe Olympics now, but it's it's more
for bringing that personal law. ChristianLaytner was famously on the Dream Team.
Why can't you do that with CaitlynClark. I'm sure she would be fine.
Saying, hey, you're not goingto be a starter, you're not
going to get a ton of minutes. But also Austin, they're going to
be winning by forty in most ofthe games, so she would have played
some and probably would have had somepretty cool moments. Yeah, seems like
(01:35:54):
a miss. And like Nike andher other advertisers that are also sponsors of
the Olympics, don't you think theywanted her on the YEP, So I
get again to Jeff's point, ifit's all about that and if that plays
such a major role, then she'dbe on the team. So clearly this
is them out of fear of somethingstupid not putting her on the team.
(01:36:15):
Doesn't It just doesn't make sense.And that's understanding that she won't play a
lot, and understanding looking at thisgroup of players that she's not the best
among them. But also she's ahuge part of basketball in the United States
of America, men's are women's regardless. She sold twenty thousand seats to a
(01:36:36):
Washington Mystic Indiana Fever game when theMystics haven't won a game all season.
Other than her being a crybaby onthe court and a flopper, which so
is Lebron James and and people stillwant to line up with him, want
to put him on there like Otherthan that, she has represented herself in
Iowa and the Fever and in thepast when she played in these U twenty
(01:37:00):
tournaments and stuff with USA Basketball excellentlyand she's done it a great job with
all the noise this year. Idon't think that's a good enough reason to
leave her off. YEP. Idon't know that it'll matter at all.
Correct. And apparently she told hercoach that. According to an article here
from ESPN, Clark scored thirty pointsafter she found out that she didn't make
(01:37:24):
the team against the Mystics, andher coach said. The thing she said
was, hey, coach, theywoke a monster, which I thought was
awesome. Good. So there yougo. Love that mentality, Love that
mentality. How does she not getpicked for the three on three teams though,
because that's what I was looking atearlier. Yeah, Cameron Brink and
Haley van Lyth are on the threeB three team. What are we doing?
(01:37:45):
Yeah? What are we doing? We're gonna take a break, that's
what we're doing. We'll get tosome more baseball, We'll get to some
more NFL. Did you get acall at all from USA basketball about being
on the men's three on three teamafter what happened at oddly enough Orial Day
parade? Oddly enough no Memorial Daywhatever. No, And I don't understand
(01:38:05):
why. We also have breaking newsfrom Cincinnati, Oh involving Jamar Chase when
we get back, when we comeback, ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports
Station, thanks to our friends atPenn Station. This is since he three
to sixty, Loegar. We've talkedabout this a lot. He's got what
you want, like, who's thego to guy? Gonna be interviews,
his views and your calls. Goto guy, isn't the team's leading school?
(01:38:28):
Loegar Today at three on ESPN fifteenthirty, ste is back on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Welcomeback since he three to sixty thanks to
(01:38:51):
Penn Station. On ESPN fifteen thirtyCincinnati Sports Station. We're going to get
into some some reds. We havesome Bengals news before of that, Jay,
to close out, I believe onceyou talk about the Kaitlyn Clark situation,
what's up, Jay? What's up? That's up? Man? You
guys are talking about Caitlin Clark notbeing an Olympics teams I don't think she
(01:39:15):
deserves to be on there because yougot people like Brianna Stewart and all them
other girls that the whole lot morethan taven Park. It seems like y'all
just want to give her the Olympics. That's not the case. I remember
back when Isaiah Thomas was probably oneof the best guards in the world and
he got replaced by John Stuntan andso wes Caitlin Clark done to just because
(01:39:43):
she done well. She done broughtviewership to to the w n B A
she ain't known Maya Moore, DianaTaarassi. But but you guys want to
give her her I mean, getmaker go to the Olympics. Well,
Jay, I would I would saythis. I would say that she brought
(01:40:04):
more awareness to women's basketball. Tarassewas fantastic, Breanna Stewart, their resumes
speak for themselves. I go backto Maya Moore at Tennessee. But Caitlyn
Clark has opened up more doors inwomen's basketball. And you mentioned the Isaiah
(01:40:24):
Thomas, the nineteen ninety two DreamTeam, which is arguably the greatest team
ever assembled. They brought Christian Latnerthat year to the Olympics. Christian Laytner
won a gold medal, not becausehe did anything, but Christian Layner was
very popular out of Duke. Itwas another big name they brought Christian Laytner.
I would imagine in the same sensethat I would imagine they would have
(01:40:45):
brought Caitlyn Clark not to get aton of minutes, but as someone who
grew the game and as someone who'sgoing to bring more eyes to the game.
It could help in that sense.I don't think. I don't think
anyone saying, well, look atthe stats, Kaitlin Clark should be out
there play. I think she shouldhave still made the roster. Just my
opinion. I mean, although, yeah, but although she can put the
(01:41:05):
ball in a basket. When peopletalk about, oh, she's the leading
scorer and men and women, okay, she done that, But you gotta
look at pistol. Pistol Pete didn'thave a three point right, So so
come on when they say that,I think they sugar coating the numbers,
(01:41:26):
the real numbers. What Pistol Petedid in bad What does Pistol Pete and
what he did have to do withher selection or non selection to the Olympic
team. Well, but I understandwhat does that have to do when people
say she was the leading scorer andman and women because she is they didn't
have a three point that pistol ptdidn't have a third point line. Yeah,
that might be true, but shestill scored more points than that.
(01:41:47):
The whole truth, Austin, saythe whole truth. Nobody is. Nobody
is pretending that that Pistol Pete didn'texist. We talked extensively and as did
the national media about pistol Pete,Like, no, one's just saying that
he didn't exist. But you guyskeep saying, oh, she's the leading
scoring man and women. Okay,he is, That's a fact she is.
(01:42:12):
But although she is, at leastsay pistol Pete, he didn't play
with a three and any we havepeople have, national media has, But
you're not saying the whole truth.Austin, What do you mean? I
just told you all that has beensaid. Jay, that was a whole
thing when he when she broke therecord. But I'm just saying, tell
(01:42:33):
the whole truth when you talk aboutthat, You're not getting it, Jay.
We have the national media does. When that happened, Pistol Pete was
talked about a lot. But soyou saying that, is it Caitlyn Clark's
fault? Is it Kaitlyn Clark's faultthat Pistol Pete didn't have a three point
line? No? No, it'snot okay? But is it? Also
(01:42:53):
when y'all say she's the greatest, you know you're talking about Maya Moore,
the one three, Brin Stewart whowon four. I said, who said's
the greatest? I said, she'sthe greatest scorer. Yeah, that the
game is seen. I didn't sayshe's a because she didn't win a title,
and there's a lot and Brianna Stewarttalked about that leading up to the
championship game that until you win thattitle, that's a different conversation. I
(01:43:16):
just said she's the most prolific scorerand she does more for the game,
and a lot of it is today'ssocial media and different things that go about
it, but it's it's it's alsonot like Jay right now, she is
fourteenth in all of WNBA in scoring, and she's fourth in the WNBA and
assists per game, So it's notlike she's been awful. She's averaging seventeen
(01:43:39):
points a game and almost seven assists. No, she's not being awful,
but her time will come. So, I mean, so the country's acting
like she's been slighted because she's noton the Olympic team. There's plenty good
players that's been slighted every time theychoose the Olympic. But just tell the
whole truth. That's why I lookatter you guys, because y'all speak the
truth. All right, thank youfor the call, man, Thanks Jay.
(01:44:01):
I mean, listen, Pistol Peteaveraged forty four points a game in
eighty three career college games. Hedidn't have a three point line. What
he did was unbelievable. That wasa long time ago, now, Caitlin
Clark, because the game has changedsignificantly and in almost twice as many games
(01:44:23):
scored more points than he did. That is not to take away from Pete
Maravich. She also did scored morepoints than any man ever, or any
college player ever. That's an accomplishmentworth noting and not trying to take anything
away from her because Pistol Pete didn'thave a three point line and not trying
to take anything away from Pistol Petebecause what he did in his time is
unbelievable. Like it's okay that shewas successful in college, it's okay that
(01:44:48):
she scored all those points. It'sokay that Pete did it too and didn't
have a three point line. Itwas unbelievable. Then it's still unbelievable.
Now history will be kind to theway is remembered. Sure, I think
you can make an argument that CaitlinClark is not one of the ten to
fifteen best players in the world rightnow. I think you can make that
(01:45:10):
argument, and that essentially is whatthis is about, right when it comes
to American basketball players in the Olympics. Fine, but to Jeff's point earlier,
if this is about money, ifthis is about growing the games,
is this about sponsors. If that'swhat it is and it's not about winning,
and it's not about the ten totwelve best players in the country,
then how is she not on theteam? You can make the argument.
(01:45:31):
You just gave us some of theWNBA numbers and some of the reasons.
She's been playing for ten straight monthsand she's tired, and some of parts
of her game have not translated aswell. I get it. I just
think for the entirety of USA women'sbasketball, it's a miss not having her
on there. And you can askthe question, is it about the best
team or is it about the mostinfluential team, because if it is,
(01:45:55):
those are two different things. Beforewe get to a break Bengals news,
Jamar Chase is in town. JamarChase is here. He's here Mandatory Mini
Caamp. So that should tell youJamar Chase will be at Mandatory Minichamp.
Anybody ever see Jamar Chase pumping hisgas. I'm kidding, messing around.
Biggest question, you're You're out tomorrow, so I'll ask you this today.
(01:46:17):
Joe Burrow being on track? Isthat your biggest question for mandatory Mini Caamp
starting tomorrow? Yes? Does JoeBurrow throw? Does Joe Burrow throw all
three days of camp? Does hethrow at least two days of camp?
Do they continue down the thing they'vealready done, which would be he might
throw today, doesn't throw tomorrow,or he might throw tomorrow, doesn't throw
(01:46:39):
Wednesday, throws again Thursday? Right? Or do they even We've seen in
the past they haven't even used allthree days of camp, right, So
that would be an easier way forZachtown to get around this. Throw Wednesday
Thursday, or throw Tuesday Wednesday anddon't even have camp for Thursday. Yeah,
maybe I wouldn't be a huge fanof that, But yeah, what's
Joe Burrow doing? He's the entirefranchise. Yep. That is to me
(01:47:00):
the lead question. And we candive into some of the other smaller questions
tomorrow and we will, but thatis the main Here's the thing, when
when we talk about Joe Burrow thisweek, let's just make sure that we
are we tell the whole truth.Well, Brett Fahr, because Boomer a
siasin Boomer when he took the Bengalsto the Super Bowl, you know,
it was a lot tougher game backthen for the offense and the wide receivers.
(01:47:24):
It wasn't as easy for them toget open back then. So when
we think about some of the greatquarterbacks of all time, we have to
tell the whole truth because of thingsthat happened forty years ago. You can't
handle the truth. Lance McCallister ison tonight at six o'clock after Moegar sincey
three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati SportsStation, a service of Penn Station,
(01:47:45):
earning twenty fifteen thirty. Welcome backsince he three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station in a service ofPenn Station. We'll get one more
call in in just a couple ofminutes before we do that, Austin,
I tease this literally in the secondsegment of the show from Major League Baseball.
(01:48:10):
Over the course of the weekend, really fun series Dodgers and Yankees delivered
in many ways. Yeah, reallycool series. I thought the London series
with Philly and the Mets was verywell done. The crowds looked electric,
seemed like there was a lot offun there. You know. I do
think that they need to find away to make that longer. Pete Manzo
talked about that. He's like,I feel like we just got here and
(01:48:32):
now we're leaving, and really, you get there, you play two games
in your role, give him aday or two to get around. Yeah,
can you play? Can you doit where you bring it's essentially a
two weeks trip almost when NFL teamsgo, Yeah, can you do it
where you bring maybe four teams andthey play and I don't know, something
along those lines because it seems tobe well received, and I thought the
(01:48:54):
coverage of it was really good, and they seem to have a lot of
fun. It was cool Bryce Harperdid the slide celebration after he hit a
home run. Excuse me, so, yeah, baseball over there. They've
done a pretty good job, butI feel like they still have a long
way to go. How different doyou think that's the madding You mentioned the
madness of the NL Wildcard earlier. How different does that make the trade deadline
(01:49:14):
this year? For instance, rightnow, the Nationals are two and a
half games out of the Wildcard. You know, last year the Diamondbacks and
Rangers were not sitting in great position, but they made deals and they ended
up representing the American League, inthe National League in the World Series.
So you know, Buster one talkedabout this on ESPN today. He talked
about the NL central as the embodimentof the add or add or subtract quandary
(01:49:39):
that could paralyze a lot of thetrade talks. Pittsburgh Pirates sellers for the
most recent memory of years. Theyhave a run differential of minus seventeen,
but they're a half game back inthe final Wildcard spot race, and they've
got Paul Skeins, Mitch Keller, and Jared Jones who could dominate a short
series in October. Could they upgradethe offense just a little bit? Who
(01:50:00):
are the guys that you're gonna begoing after? If you're Nick Krawl,
you don't want to be the guywho makes the move after the first move
is made, Like can you beatsome of these other teams to the punch?
Can you go and get a guy? Are you willing to overpay for
one of those guys if you feellike they can put you over the top
and help your team, whether that'sa starting pitcher, bullpen or the rest
(01:50:21):
of the whatever. Wait, itmay be because you cannot operate. Like
Matt McLean is coming back, theseason could be over by the time he
comes back, and by over,I mean they could be out of contention
right and there's no guarantee he's goingto come back. There's also no guarantee
he's gonna come back and be MattMcClain of last year. Same with noelvi
Marte. You're gonna get a coupleweeks looking at him to figure out,
(01:50:42):
Okay, is this somebody who's gonnaplay a major role in our ball club
or not. And all the otherguys on this team have struggled in their
sophomore seasons, right, Yeah,And so you can't expect Matt McLain or
noelv Marte to just come in andlight the world on fire. Same with
Christian and Caronassi on strand, he'sgonna be back in a few weeks.
He was the guy a lot ofpeople thought would hit for power, wasn't
doing it earlier, comes to findout has a risk fracture. Will he
(01:51:03):
come back and be a right handedpower bat in this lineup? How does
it change after that? And ifyou can get to that, let's just
say five games over five hundred bythe All Star break. Is that enough
for Nick Crawl to say, allright, I'm going after whoever it might
be, and that's gonna put usover the hump in this division. Yeah.
(01:51:23):
I think it's very very interesting towatch going forward. They mentioned pretty
much every NL Central team except theReds does Buster only in this article talks
about the financial flexibility teams that couldbe huge role teams at the deadline,
The Blue Drays, Blue Jays, and the Mets. Also one of those
teams, and maybe this is ayear where the Houston Ashros take one of
(01:51:45):
those rare years off based on howthey've played. Still a lot of time
between now and the deadline, butan interesting conversation there with the pirates.
We got time for one more call. The pizza dude is calling in.
What's up? It's going on?How are you? Man? I got
We'll be honest, I got nothingreally to add to the conversation today.
This is more or less just anappreciation call. Oh fantastic. When I
(01:52:09):
when I first found the show firstweek or so, I'm gonna tell you,
you kind of wrote me the wrongway. Wasn't sure about you.
But as I've listened, I've seenit. I agree with you more and
more. And that last last conversation, that last call just drove it home.
You are now my favorite radio personality. The callback brought it home.
I appreciate you guys. Keep doingwhat you're doing. I'll keep listening.
(01:52:30):
Awesome to thank you, man.I appreciate that, Appreciate that call.
Love you guys, love you man. All good stuff, how about that?
Yeah, sometimes it's just what's needed. Hey, Yeah, I don't
really have much to add to theshow. I just want to say that
you guys are appreciated. I appreciatethat very much. Man to dude,
I really truly do. And listen, we're going to try to tell the
whole story. We're going to tryto tell the whole truth because you know,
(01:52:53):
it wasn't the same for Chris collinsWorth when he was doing sports talk.
Yes, wasn't the same for BobTrumpy when they were doing sports talk.
You know those type of guys, those legends back in the day.
Yep. And so we're gonna tryto tell the whole truth. You know
nothing, but things are a lotdifferent now and we just do our best.
God help us. Yep. Verywell. Out to the pizza,
dude, I'm very well done.Time for a break. When we come
(01:53:15):
back, egg Man Maurice Ager, who's just getting ready to get under way
for his Monday Eat CEO and theMowager Show, which takes place from three
to six. This is ESPN fifteenthirty Cincinnati Sports Station Quick Hits Locks of
the Night. When we return, thanks to our friends at Penn State thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, It's time forCincy three sixty Quick Hits on ESPN fifteen
(01:53:35):
thirty. Hey, welcome back. It's since he three to sixty. It's
time for quick hits, which meansit's time for Moagar to join us.
Mo is in uh now because he'sin for the next three hours. He's
in from three to six. It'sthe Mowager Show. But nice enough to
give us some time today as uas we passed the torch. The Baton
Olympics are coming up. Lemox area hot button topic today. Say a
(01:53:58):
couple things about Caitlin Clark and wehad a pistol Pete conra. I mean,
it's just been a lot today.Kaitlyn Clark's not on the Olympic team,
which is stupid, Which is dumb, thank you. It's just all
we were trying to get at isstupid, and I'm I'm gonna explain why,
thank you. I'm going to usehistory as a guide. Oh.
I am going to reference everybody's favoriteall time basketball team. Oh, and
explaining why Kaitlyn Clark should be onthe US women's basket Interesting. Interesting?
(01:54:23):
What else do you have coming up? The Reds win three out of four
against the Chicago Cubs yesterday. NotwithstandingI have a bold prediction I'll make it
today. Love it. Also, let's give credit words due to someone that
not a lot of people wanted togive credits to about a month ago.
Oh, Dan Hurley, as youguys were talking about, is staying in
college. Yeah. I was hopinghe would go to the Lakers, by
(01:54:45):
the way, Yeah, the wholelike record breaking money. Williams is still
making more than what Hurley would havemade six years. I know it's a
lot of money. Seventy million.Yeah, we were hearing like one hundred
ten, right. I don't thinkit was just hard to say. I
think I would have told him topound sand for that offer too. Yep.
So Dan Hurley is staying at Yukon. We have to talk about what
it means. I've got a bigguy told you so coming up. And
(01:55:09):
there are only two teams that wouldhave signed Mike Tomlin to a contract extension,
which you guys were talking about atthe top of the hour. One
is the Pittsburgh Steelers, the otheris the Cincinnati Bengle. This great news
for other teams in the AFC North. A perennial underachiever who hasn't won a
playoff game since twenty sixteen, losingseasons, remains in position for the next
three years. I thought the samething. I thought it was the Marvin
(01:55:30):
Lewis reset after two thousand and eightis basically what that was. Today.
Congratulations to the Steelers they keep MikeTomlin. We spent a lot of time
because Mondays are meant Tony, didyou tell me about Mike Tomlin's the playoff
thing or the record He's never hada losing season. Yeah, correct,
write that down, But like that'sthat's sort of like what we hang our
(01:55:50):
hats on now, right, Well, he's never had a losing season.
He hasn't won a playoff game sincethe open administration. Being Austin brought this
up today, let me ask you, because we were mostly positive to day,
it's a positive Monday when it's beencrazy winning a lot. Yeah,
montask goes an Indian and a third, and I hope that that's more of
an outlier. Sure, all ofthe sudden, Graham Ashcraft is quote figuring
(01:56:11):
it out, which I thought waswhat women tell men when they need space.
I just need time to figure thingsout. You never really know what
it means. But Graham Ashcraft needssome time to figure things out. Okay,
And a lot of people assumed, okay with that, I miss being
Brandon Williamson's close now here goes BrandonWilliamson on the sixty day Monthtass gets beat
around a little bit bullpen days. But for Ninda or I don't think anyone
(01:56:33):
is gonna say they have utmost confidencein Alexis Tas right now. Me Lil
Pegan is out to at least theend of the All Star break. If
your Nick Crawler, you're the redsIs, There're starting to be a little
concern once you get past one, two, three of that pitching rotation,
with the back end and the bullpen. Yeah, I mean, what do
they always say you can never haveenough pitching? Yeah, So this team
(01:56:54):
could be completely healthy, totally lightsout, with no major pressing issues either
in the bullpen or the starting rotation, and you're always looking for upgrades,
You're always looking for more. Butyeah, I think the uncertain team with
Brandon Williamson, what they've done withGraham Ashcraft and just the overall youthfulness of
the starting staff would suggest you're stilllooking for help, You're still looking for
(01:57:16):
options, and that would obviously applyto the bullpen as well. Look,
I've seen. I've seen teams withgood starting staffs go and get more starting
pitching, and I've seen teams withgood bullpens go and get relief help.
The Reds should not be exempt fromthat by any stretch of the imagination,
which would be interesting because essentially there'stwo teams in the NL that are out
of the wild card hut right now. Right, yeah, the trade deadline
(01:57:39):
is gonna I mean, we justtalked about. We spent time talking about
the Pirates. Start doing it now. If you're the Pirates, historically they
sell. If you're the Pirates andyou can add a bat and you get
to a playoff series with your topthree pitchers, you have a chance to
win that series. You're allowed tomake trades in June. Unbelievable. You're
allowed, don't You don't have towait till the deadline. Correct. There
are a lot of teams that I'msure if you call them, they're gonna
(01:57:59):
go. Well, we don't knowwhat we are quite yet, but the
White Sox do, the Marlins do. So there's a handful of teams you
could do business with, but youcan get out in front of I think
there's two not misnomers, but Ithink there's two things we sort of failed
to not realize about the trade deadline. Number One, you're allowed, if
you're a contending team to trade forplayers who aren't rentals. You're allowed also
(01:58:25):
to trade with a contender. You'reallowed to do that. You're allowed to
go, Okay, we'll take thispiece which you have a surplus of,
and we'll give you this piece whichwe have a surplus of. You're also
allowed to We brought up Luise Robertlast week, and there's pluses and minuses.
He's a very good offensive player. He's also always hurt. He's also
terrible with the glove. But youknow, you get him for this year
(01:58:45):
and the year after that, thenthere's team options for twenty six and twenty
seven. That's precisely the type ofplayer I'm more interested in acquiring, more
so than a guy that you rentfor two or three months. But then
there's also the belief that, well, it's just what's today the tenth,
it's just June tenth. Like fora lot of teams that are trying to
figure out what they are, Okay, you're gonna have a hard time doing
(01:59:06):
business with them, but why nottrade for a player that you could get
for the next six to seven weeksand for the last two months instead of
waiting for July thirty first to gethere. Two weeks ago we said,
can you get the five hundred bythe all of Sudden's June tenth, you're
two under. Maybe you can bea little bit more aggressive. You mentioned
with the pitching side. Do youthink there's any concern internally with Montass's track
(01:59:30):
record? But he's just not pitcheda lot the last couple of years.
Do you worry about as the seasongoes along, Yes, fatigue. I
could tell you they're concerned about that. How are they not right? You're
right, He's just not a guywho has pitched a ton. And the
good news is yesterday he didn't pitcha ton either. Yep. Last thing
before we get in because we're beingglass half full? Yeah, did we
(01:59:51):
just misview the Mavericks. It's justa bad matchup. I think the role
players aren't showing up, and youthink home your role players will show up.
Kyrie also hasn't shown up. No, he hasn't. We talked about
this. Did you side with probablythe better coach, although I don't think
Jason Kidd has helped himself in thisseries with the top two players or the
(02:00:13):
better team, and what you've seenis the Boston Celtics have the better team.
Drew Holliday was terrific last night, does a little bit of everything.
Jason Tatum is getting beaten up andyet still made a lot of plays last
night. They did a really goodjob I think on Luca and he gets
his points right, he gets hispoints, but I think they throw enough
at him to make him work justenough. And I think I'm certainly of
(02:00:38):
guilty of underestimating the impact of Christops porzingis on both ends of the floor.
Agreed, let's make some money, had degenerates. It's time for Locks
of the Night, presented by sincehe shirts, is it either store in
Hyde Park or on Dixie Highway andFort Mitchell and always online? Since he
shirts, now make you some money. The kid for Clemson yesterday hits a
(02:01:03):
three run home run. Yes,makes one of the best catches in the
bottom half of the innw York Cityyou ever see. They go to extras.
Kid hits a home run to givehis team the lead, and he
gets tossed. Yes, what aboutwhat a bad I'm show? Also that
today, and that's a totally changesubjects. But Kentucky is headed to the
College Wall Series. I have advice. What do they call him, Austin
the Batcats? Batcats. I haveadvice for Kentucky alums and fans because the
(02:01:28):
great thing about the College World Seriesis suddenly and I would do this too.
Fans come out of the woodwork, like I typically root for the school
and football and basketball, but hey, the baseball team's good. Yeah.
If you're a Kentucky fan and you'redoing that, awesome, I have advice
also, nothing better than Omaha.No. College baseball is really just good
to watch college baseballst sporting event thatI've ever been to. Very good.
(02:01:49):
What do you like tonight? Ilike to raise money line in their home
tilts against the Baltimore Orioles and thecartoon Duck and Dylan sees over eight and
a half strikeouts against. I didn'ttouch thease, but I like the home
dog Tampa Bay race against the BaltimoreOrioles Tonight plus one thirty five plus one.
Telling someone the story this week abouthow I used to work at the
(02:02:11):
Hat World store in the Tri CountyMall and the manager at the time.
Who you would have thought working athat World was the end all and b
all. This guy was very buttonedup. We had a customer walk in
and he wanted a Baltimore Orioles hatand he's pointing it's over my shoulder and
he goes, I want the onewith a duck. I go, duck.
He's like, yeah, the blackand an orange one with the duck.
(02:02:34):
And I look at him, Igo, it's not a duck,
man, it's a Baltimore Orioles logo. And the overheard hat World for four
months in the summer of two thousandand two, is that when you fell
in love with hats? Kind ofokay? Wow, I would take my
paycheck and just buy hats, soI'd buy like a hat and a hat
(02:02:55):
and a half a month. Butanyway, now you get golf problem.
Now you get gifted golf hats.I do you can't yell at the customers
like that, Well, why doeshe want an Oriole's hat if he doesn't
even know what the the logo is. I can't imagine you're raising a stink
about that. This doesn't seem likeyou at all raised a stink, got
yelled at, you got a halfa percent commission at hat World for selling
hats. Half half a percent commissionreally pushed you to make that fund.
(02:03:18):
It really did. Like the managerhad to have a conversation with me the
next day. He's like, it'smy job to get you to be everything
you can be. I'm like, buddy, you're managing a hat store.
Man. I'm here because my radiojob demands I have another gig in the
afternoon, so just ease up onit. I won't yell at the customers
anymore. And then I left thatjob to go sell home security systems at
(02:03:43):
the same mallow or if you soldone security system, you were regarded as
an all star. I had thatjob for four weeks. Whole story about
me. More of that and hisjobs at the mall for Who's Next on
the Mowlegger Show. Thanks to oursponsors, listeners, callers and talkbackers.
A fun Monday, have a greatrest of your day. We'll do it
again tomorrow. Moegar on The MowegarShow is next on ESPN fifteen thirty
