and that is La Bell smack itdown on your term. Hey, yes,
yes, that's what the Reds aredoing right now. Take that Colorado.
(00:41):
Yeah, listen, we got alot to get to today, and
here's what I'm doing. I justnow tweeted Austin a video telling you everything
about today's show, which really makesno sense because I'm gonna spend the next
couple of minutes doing the same thing. But if you want to see the
video version, go to Tony UnderscorePike fifteen on social media and you can
hear me tell you then what toexpect on today's show, or you can
(01:03):
hear me talk about that right now, which is what I'm gonna do last
night another awesome night at the ballpark, minus the short rain delay. It's
Saul Reese Hines do something that noone in the history of Major League Baseball
has done. We'll talk about thattoday. We'll talk about the twelve runs
and the thirteen hits and everything thatwent into that. Nick Lodolo, who
(01:26):
was fantastic pre reign delay, notgreat post rain delay. We'll give them
a pass for that. We'll lookaround major League Baseball where recap everything from
last night, look at the standingsand what's next. And if you already
know what's next, that's Kyle Freeland. Night at the ballpark Austin. Kyle
Freeland for the Rockies, for thered Kyle Freeland, keep it going.
(01:47):
We'll be pitching for the Colorado Rockiestonight. And do you want to explain
to people your relationship with Kyle Freeland. Kyle Freeland played at Evansville with cowardly
cousin Connor. They're good friends andthrough Connor, I have met Kyle multiple
times. Great guy, awesome tohang out with and really kind of take
(02:09):
note whenever he's pitching. Now,okay, and now he's pitching against the
Reds tonight, so not gonna lie. He also hooked up me and my
son with some batting practice passes,so even more exciting. And shout out
to you, Kyle Freeland. Iknow you're probably listening right now. They
got us cranked up in the RockyClubhouse. Yeah, I'm sure, yep.
(02:30):
Injuries, we will talk about thatbecause Jonathan Indya was scratched right before
the game last night. Hoping thatit's nothing. We'll wait to hear any
more from that. We will.I've teased this every day this week.
I've teased talking more about the CincinnatiBengals. We do have more borrow audio,
but maybe today we'll talk about theoffensive line, some building blocks.
(02:53):
Pro Football Focus named one thing thateach team needs to do before training camp.
There are so many Bengals related topics. If we can get to him,
great, If not, we havetime to do that. Also on
the show today, two different guestone o'clock Keegan nickoson Bearcatjournal dot Com.
You know where Keegan was yesterday?Keegan was at Big twelve media Days at
(03:15):

talk to Keegan nickoson about Big twelvemedia day and a board member who deals
with staff and player relations with CinceyRains. Ken Tracy is going to join

top sports stories, I will tellyou they're brought to you by our friends
at Cloud's Roofing System of Cincinnati, the trusted local roofing and gutter company Visit
(03:58):
krs since he with ay dot Com, that's krs CI n see why dot
com. So here's what happened overthe last twenty four hours or so.
Wander Franco has been officially charged.Wanderfranco, who had one of the most
promising young careers, He has beencharged officially with sexual abuse against a minor
(04:26):
in the Dominican Republic. Crazy. Not good for wander Franco and the career
that he potentially was going to haveand was just posting on his Instagram story
less than forty eight hours ago aphoto of him with I believe the same
woman, just in just insane thatthat is going on and continues to happen.
So sick people out there, man. Yeah. Also, Argentina last
(04:53):
night toppled Canada and Drake at thesame time. Oh did you see this?
Drake's a big Canada. I'm Canada, right, He's Canadian. Drake's
putting how that works? He putthree hundred thousand dollars last night that his
country would beat the defending champions inCopa America's semi final, Argentina. So
he lost the three hundred thousand dollarsbet, and Argentina posted a photo of
(05:16):
them celebrating after the match and thecaption read not like us, not with
us period, which is of coursethe disc track released by Kendrick Lamar which
criticized the Canadian artist Artist and hasbeen streamed nearly half a billion times.
So a loss for Canada and aloss for Drake last night. It's going
(05:41):
to be a tough night for Canadatonight as well, as they take on
the United States basketball team. That'sa ten to thirty start. This evening
against the Canadians, one of thefirst tune up matches tune up games,
I should say for USA basketball priorto the Olympics coming up in a couple
of weeks. There is USA Basketballnews as well. Kawhi Leonard has withdrew
(06:03):
yes from Team USA. Derek Whitefrom the Boston Celtics will take his place.
It's good Kawhi Leonard should not beplaying if he can't play for his
team. True, And that's justperiod, point blank. He's got an
injury. The dude plays like twentygames a year for the last eight years.
He's just slowly faded into irrelevance.Yea. And it's a shame.
(06:24):
But you shouldn't be able to playfor your country if you can't even play
for your team that pays you millionsand millions of dollars. And I did
hear that there is language within theagreements with the NBA and owner and player
contracts in the NBA oh that theycannot the owners cannot try to sway a
(06:46):
player to play or not play internationalbasketball. So technically the Clippers is that
who he's with the Clippers. TheClippers can't say we want you to play
we don't want you to play Okay, it has to be the player's own
decision. Looks like Kawhi made theright decision. Any idea, speaking of
(07:08):
basketball, any idea, who thebetting favorite is right now for NBA Rookie
of the Year, because it's changeda ton. This player started last month
when the bets came out at plustwo thousand. He's now down to plus
six hundred. Better not be BrownieJames. It's not Zach Edy. Oh,
Zach Edy, the Memphis Grizzlies, who in his first game had fourteen
(07:31):
points, fifteen rebounds, and fourblocks. Zach Edy now the betting favorite.
Remember a lot of people were thinkingZach Eatay's game can't translate to the
end of NBA. He is nowthe betting favorite in the NBA for Rookie
of the Year. Good stuff forZach Edy, not good stuff yesterday Austin
for Mike Gundy. Now, Idon't know if we even have the audio
(07:54):
or we can pull the audio, but Mike Gundy's star player, Alli Gordon
the Second was charged recently with aDUI. And as if that's not bad
enough, it's it's been announced thatAli Gordon the Second will not miss time.
After the arrest, Gundhy told ESPNat Big twelve media day that he's
(08:20):
going to play. He thinks that'swhat's best, and essentially said, if
there's any punishment, it'll be thatOlli Gordon will be carrying the ball fifty
times in the first game, almostmaking light of it. And if that
wasn't bad enough, listen here toMike Gundy trying to explain Oli Gordon the
second's d UI. So I lookedit up on my phone. What would
(08:41):
be the legal limit like in Oklahoma'spoint a sure, and Olie was point
one. Oh okay. So Ilooked it up and it was based on
body weight. Not to get intothe legal side of it, but I
thought, really, two or threebeers or four? I'm not justifying with
all he did. I'm telling youwhat decision I made. Well, I
(09:03):
thought, I've probably done that athousand times in my life. Oh no,
and you know it's just fine.So I got lucky. People get
lucky. All he made a decisionthat he wished he could have done better.
But when I talked to Olie,I told him said, you're lucky
you got out light because you makea lot of money to play football.
Oh man, I just I can'teven imagine what the Oklahoma State contingent there
(09:30):
with Mike Gundy was thinking as hewas talking like that. I'm still not
entirely sure what he's trying. Idon't even know what is he saying that
he had in his life a thousandtimes he's had a couple of beers and
drove. Yes, I think that'swhat he's saying. I think most people
that drink would say that that hashappened. Correct. The difference is this
guy had more beers than he islegally allowed to have to drive and did
(09:54):
it anyway? What's he trying tolike? What's he looking? Well,
A lot of it's with body weight. He doesn't want to get too far
into the law. The legal limitis point oh eight. He was at
point one. Correct. That's it. Bang, That's all you need to
know, Mike gun and crazy.I did see that Mike Gundy just hired
Bob Huggins on staff with him.Uh, it's a bad joke. Someone
(10:16):
said that Mike Gundy is a man. He blows a four point zero.
Mike Gundy's been around for a longtime, hasn't he dude, I'm sitting
there listening to that yesterday, andI'm like, where is he going with
this? Like it's one thing toget together and say, you know what,
we're not going to suspend him.And I do think there was one
(10:39):
good thing that he said we didn'tget to. But Mike Gunny said,
look, I told Oli Gordon,we will take you to Big twelve media
day, but we're not shielding youfrom anything. You're gonna own up to
everything you did. You're gonna answerevery question, which I agree with.
That's great. And Mike Kenny goeson and say, what's it gonna do
if we suspend him one game? And okay, I'll even listen to that,
but to hear Mike Gundhy try tosay, why I looked up the
(11:01):
legal limit and it's point oh eightand you know, Oli Gordon was a
point one and you know that's two, three, maybe four beers. And
I can't even think I've probably donethat a thousand times in my life.
What are you doing crazy? Whatare you doing crazy? And especially when
you're talking about a college kid comparedto a fifty year old man, and
then on top of that, thefact that you know we just what was
(11:22):
it two days ago we're talking aboutKyrie Jackson and his high school teammates who
died because of a drunk driver inMaryland. It's just it's just college football
coaches or something else. Man,especially these guys that have been around for
a long time, that it's almostlike you're too comfortable saying the things.
Yep, unexploiced someone like you're ona national stage. Yeah, and that's
(11:45):
what you just like, that's thestatement you had made because you knew he
probably thought ahead of time, likeobviously you're gonna be asked about Allie Gordon.
Yeah, he's like he's one ofthe top five best players returning in
college football. Yeah. You couldeither say I don't want to comment on
on it right now, Ali's goingto talk about it, or you in
your mind have something ready. That'swhat he had ready. Well here's the
(12:07):
other thing too. You and Iwere talking about this before the show last
night. On Hard Knocks with theGiants, there's a scene in which Joe
Shane, the GM of the Giants, meets with the communications director and goes
over the questions that he is goingto be asked at the combine and how
he's going to answer them, yep. And for Mike Gundhy to just like,
(12:28):
did he not prepare for that atall? You knew it was coming.
He never run that by an SIDor a communications director to say,
hey, listen, don't say anythinglike that about Ali Gordon. Do you
think he was surprised by the question? Oh my gosh, speaking of that,
what a trail the Hard Knocks man. I was hesitant early on because
(12:48):
I'm like, off season, really, what are we really going to learn?
This might be my favorite Hard Knocksto date. It's so good.
If you have not followed along, they're following the New York Giants and last
night's episode they've already kind of gonebehind the scenes with the Saquon Barkley stuff,
but last night's yeah, there itis. Last night's episode is going
(13:11):
into great, great detail of themeetings held with some of the top prospects
at the Combine. And I retweetedone of the videos yesterday because Drake May
is answering questions from Brian day Ballabout protections and scheme and play design,
and he's Dave Ball's just firing questionsoff of him, and I think it's
(13:35):
such a good behind the scenes lookof how intricate every single play is from
a quarterback standpoint and everything that youneed to know. And I also saw
Jade and Daniels have the same questionand he struggled with it. I watched
them interview Roma Doonzay, and Iwas like, how did they not draft
Romadonsay because they loved him, Theyloved the meeting with Drake May. I
(13:56):
thought it showed poorly on Caleb williamI thought that they showed it behind the
scenes conversation of the scouts presenting theinformation they had kind of uncovered about every
quarterback prospect leading into the draft, leading into the combine, and you find
a lot of interesting stuff. Forinstance, JJ McCarthy Austin. They brought
up JJ McCarthy. They said, twenty one years old leader. One note,
(14:20):
JJ McCarthy was not in charge ofidentifying the defense or setting the protection
the offensive line did all that. That is something those NFL gms and coaches
they need to know that because that'sa big part of the game. So
maybe a little knock on JJ McCarthy. They talked about Caleb Williams and they
said started six and zero, lostfive of the last six declined speaking to
(14:45):
the media after the UCLA loss.Probably not something that would do well for
us in the New York market.Yeah. It's what I've found interesting through
a lot of those conversations between theGiants people is how often they get they
bring that up, and so theyare so aware of how difficult it is
to be in New York because oftheir market Roma Dunes. They brought up
(15:07):
the New York market as to whyhe would be a good fit, so
because of the leader he is.That's the perfect example of like something that
a specific team has a different needor a different worry or a different box
to check than a team like theBengals might, which I think is really
interesting, and there are other teamslike that in the NFL Las Vegas.
That life is something you have tobe able to clear before your you're you're
(15:31):
drafting a player Miami, the sameway being down in South Beach, those
nightlife, those those clubs, likethose style of cities is a box you
have to check. The media marketin New York is huge, and it
makes me wonder if that's one ofthe reasons why the Giants historically have been
so much more successful than the Jets. Yeah. Uh. Now, we
admittedly haven't seen as much of thebehind the scenes conversations with the Jets when
(15:54):
they were in on Hard Knocks, and I think that they dialed down a
lot of it. But you knowthat that I think is that they are
very very aware of with the Giantsthat I have found interesting. I can't
help among everything, I mean, the conversations with sakuon Barkley Austin, I
can't help but think somewhere last night, in maybe a dorm room at Syracuse,
(16:14):
Kyle McCord sitting down to watch thelatest edition of Hard Knocks and just
taking strays. I mean, theydid everything they could in their meeting with
Marvin Harrison Jr. To get MarvinHarrison Junior to throw Kyle McCord under the
bus, and to his credit,he didn't. He didn't do it.
He said I could have made betterplays on the ball. The coach who's
going over the film with Marvin Harrison, Oh my goodness, says that's a
bleep throw, and Marvin's like,I would never say anything good quarterback.
(16:38):
No, But just if I waswatching that last night and I didn't know
who New York drafted, I wouldhave said they took Drake Mayer Roma Dunes
based on that. If you area fan of Hard Knocks or the how
football really works, or you're nota fan, go try the episodes.
(17:00):
They are phenomenal. I think thisis this is going to be big in
terms of like the future of theorganizations or the future of that show,
because I think training camp gets alittle bit stale after a while, and
I think it is stale, especiallytoday's training camp. Today's training camps for
sure, but now being able todo you know, an entire division in
season and being able to do offseasons out the Giants seemed to allow quite
(17:26):
a bit of access more than Iexpected. I mean, the phone calls
on speaker with Saquon Barkley on speakerwith Saquon Barkley's agent going through what every
scout is saying around the table, like there's no more than I thought there
would be. So and I likeit. Yep, all right, let's
take a break. Something else thatI liked was what took place at Great
(17:48):
American Ballpark last night. We'll diveinto another Reds win. I'm not buying
back in yet. I'm cautiously dippinga toe in the water and the ballpark.
Yes, oh, they won. We'll talk about history that was made
at the ballpark last night. Uhand plenty more. We've got your phone
calls five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
(18:08):
We're just getting started here till threeo'clock, cinty three to sixty thanks to
our friends at Skyline, Chile onthe Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen
thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, HeyAlexis's ESPN fifteen thirty and iHeartRadio stations.
Oh my goodness, did he killedthat ball? That is way over the
(18:30):
Kroger case. The second home runin his many nights for Reese Hines.
My lord, what a home runby this kid. He has burst onto
the scene. Here were the redsand it's an eight four reds lead.
Oh Man naked, it's hurt.Five minutes are all extra base hits in
(18:52):
the big league? Oh Man isright? All right? That's the call
last night that you heard if you'relistening on the radio. And that makes
for back to back nights. ReSigns. This might be our first back
to back winner. Off. Hejust keeps making history. This is Resigns,
back to back, first back toback winner as our power player of
yesterday's game, of course, broughtto you by Cincinnati Tax Resolution powered by
(19:18):
TOF. Sheldon. Now, yesterdaywe said TOF. Sheldon could hit a
ball four hundred and fifty feet?Could he hit one four fifty eight?
You know what, I don't know. It's a good question, maybe a
question that TOAF needs to answer. But congratulations to re Shigns, who also
became the first player in Major LeagueBaseball history to record five extra base hits
in his first two major league appearances. Resigns is gonna need Cincinnati Tax Resolution
(19:42):
with all this money he's about tobe making back up the Brinks truck right
now. Now, if you thoughtthat call was good, do we have
the call from some of the othernetworks. Yeah, We've got the Reds
TV on Bally Sports. We've gotRockies TV. Rockies TV was my favorite,
and Rockies Radio. All right, let's hear these. Oh my goodness,
(20:07):
that's John say that the signs andthe upper Yeah, Reese Hides makes
baseball history the first man ever tolaunch five extra base hits in his first
two games. And there is nodoubt launching five extra base hits is a
good way to put it. Mhm wow, this one coming up is
(20:27):
my favorite, though. Wow wow, he's a single shy of the cycle.
It's a second game there, hecan't say anything crazy. Oh boy,
oh boy, oh gosh, howfar did that thing go? Eight
(20:52):
to four? Oh boy, ReeseHines a homeward day is the big league
exhibitent late? Oh boy, Ohno, it's almost like they're offended by
it. Oh No, fifty eight, one hundred and twelve, seven miles
(21:15):
an hour off the bat count.Justin Lawrence with a bitch and hit higher
to left field. Another home run, hammered dis ball into the third deck
in left hung a sweeper this time, and Hines with his second home run
in two games of a mad career. Fifth extra basics. Oh, this
(21:37):
eight to four rids. Oh that'sgood. He had one of the longest
home runs hit for the first bigleague homer in the statcast era that started
in twenty fifteen, second only toSam Hilliards four fifty five. And this
one's gonna be pretty close to it. All right, those are really cool.
(22:00):
That's what it sounded like. BallySports, Rockies TV and the Rockies
Radio Network. Yeah, the waythat they sound offended here. Yeah,
oh boy, Oh my gosh, this kid. Oh so two monsters,
Oh so okay. Re Signs becomesthe first play in MLB history to have
five extra base hits in his firsttwo games. Awesome stuff there. Re
(22:23):
Signs was phenomenal. You know whoelse was phenomenal yesterday? The Benson project,
Well, you know, every everynow and then, Will Benson's gonna
be like, all right, maybehe's got something there, But I don't
know. Will Benson hit himself amonster blast last night, three eighty three
off the bat. Will Benson alsodoubled in last night's game. And I
(22:45):
think if you watch Will Benson's reactionon the home run, you could tell
his excitement because that's a pitch He'sbeen swinging and missing a lot at and
he made contact. He last night, he made contact in a big way.
Will Benson had himself a nice nightat the plate. Tyler Stevenson had
himself a nice night at the plate. A home run and two doubles for
(23:07):
Tyler Stevens and all in all itwas twelve runs, thirteen hits, five
doubles, one triple, four homeruns. The other home run hit by
Spencer Steer for the Cincinnati read Doyou have My favorite part about Resigns was
last night. He comes up inthe eighth inning and he's already had a
double, a triple, and ahome run. He needs a single for
the cycle. And his first twoswings you would have thought he was trying
(23:29):
to hit a ball five hundred feet. He had zero intro worries. No,
he had no interest in a single. He wanted another home run.
Yep, opportunity to hit for thecycle. Nah, I'm good. Lodolo
was good until the rain delay. He was phenomenal early on in that game,
rain delay hit. He got beatup a little bit after the rain
(23:52):
delay. I'll give Lodolo a passbecause of the coming off the injured list
and then starting a game and havingto sit for what forty five to fifty
minutes and then coming back. Yeah, not easy to do. Bullpen last
night did its job. Nick Martinez, Lucas Simms, Justin Wilson, Fernando
Cruz, Buck Farmer, and BrentSouter all combined for just two hits.
(24:14):
I'm sorry, two runs on thenight, one of those being an earned
run. So good stuff from theCincinnati Reds. I appreciate that Will Benson
doesn't often make contact, but whenhe does, he celebrates it. He
really enjoys it when he does.He celebrated it with a boneheaded air as
well in the game, but we'lllook past that one. This street came
(24:34):
to an end. Yeah. Alsoreally cool. Yesterday Hunter Green was named
the All Star Team. Yes,and you made the case earlier in the
week that he should have already beenan All Star. Hunter Green is an
All Star and what happened with himin FC Cincinnati yesterday even cooler. Did
you see this from Hunter Green?I saw he posted something, but I'm
(24:56):
not sure exactly what it was.He posted pretty busy day yesterday with the
Reds win and my MLB All Starselection thanks to the teammate's staff, everyone
involved. But he goes and sayshuge shout out to f C Cincinnati because
Hunter's brother Ethan was in town.Ethan is thirteen years old and you've seeeni
in this video. He already wearsa size fifteen shoe. Dude at thirteen
(25:17):
years old, but he says Ethanis a huge soccer fan and player.
F C Cincinnati opened up the fieldto him, made him a custom jersey
with his name on the back andit was a dream for him. So
thanks to f C Cincinnati. That'scool, really cool. And there's a
video of Ethan just kind of onthe field volleying the ball around to himself.
He's got the custom jersey, he'sgot the spikes on. Hunter Green's
there with him. That's dope, really cool from FC to roll out the
(25:41):
red carpet for Hunter Green and forMajor League Baseball to acknowledge what Hunter Green
has done this first half of theseason as well. You know, this
is you know, besides the point. But if you've ever seen Hunter Green
or been around Hunter Green or anyonein his family, they are all ginormous,
like just big people. Yes,Hunter Green shoes, his cleats you
(26:02):
can buy at the Reds Authentic storeinside the ballpark. It's unfathomable how big
his his shoes are. It's likeShack's shoes. Yeah, so it's funny
to see that he's got a thirteenyear old brother with a fifteen shoe.
It's incredible, that's insane. Butyeah, that's that's really really cool from
FC Cincinnati. Not a surprise whatsoever. No, that's first class club over
(26:23):
there. What that means now, going forward for the Cincinnati Reds. We'll
touch on when we get back. That is everything from yesterday's game. We'll
look ahead a little bit to today'sgame. You don't want to hear some
of these stats about the Reds againstKyle Freeland if you're a Kyle Freeland guy.
When we get back, you'll hearsome of those on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. Phone lines areopen five one, three, seven,
(26:44):
four nine, fifteen thirty. Weare a service of Skyline Chili right here
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Hey fans, Tony Plike here and fifteen thirty from
iHeartRadio. Welcome back since he threep sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
(27:12):
Station, or a service of ourgood friends at Skyline Chili, where anytime
you're feeling good and hungry, itis always Skyline time. Spending a little
bit more time on the Reds herein our number one one thing to keep
an eye on, just because it'show the Reds first half of the season
has gone. Austin Yesterday, verylate in the day, Jonathan India was
(27:37):
scratched from the lineup with a kneecontusion. Very interesting to see how that
rolls over intoday, But for themost part, I would assume you'll see
re signs in the lineup today.I would assume you'll see a similar lineup
because now it's not so much aboutdays off, it's you got a couple
more we we got five games leftbefore the All Star breaks, then the
(28:00):
players do get a rest. SoI would expect to see the a lineup
going forward for the Cincinnati Reds. They'll do so tonight against Kyle Freeland of
the Colorado Rockies. You said youhave some numbers on Kyle Freeland. I
do. First of all, ifyou keep in mind, last time Frankie
Muntoss pitched against the Rockies, itwas a historic performance at Corus Field in
(28:21):
Denver, one of the only opposingpitchers to have such a great performance.
So that's something to keep in mindfor tonight's game. Kyle Freeland, on
the mound for Colorado, has asix point six to two e r ray
this season. Left hander Reds historicallyhave struggled against left handers, but a
good chunk of these guys have seenhim before. Jamer Candelario is hitting just
(28:44):
two hundred in five at bats againstKyle Freeland, not great. But Jonathan
India's three for six against him witha couple of extra base hits, actually
one extra base hit, so that'spretty good. He's batting an even five
hundred. How about Edwin Rios hasfaced him Twiceive it or not, He's
one for two with an extra basehit against Kyle Freeland in his career.
(29:04):
Austin Slater, the newly acquired RedOh, he has seen him a lot
having played with the Giants. Howabout this, Austin Slater, in thirty
five at bats has a home runfor RBI, is hitting two eighty six
with an eight O seven OPS againstKyle Freeland. That's pretty damn good for
thirty five at bats against him.Spencer Steers only seen him once. What
(29:26):
he did took him deep home runone for one against them. Tyler Stevenson
also took him deep one for threewith a solo home run against Kyle Freeland.
And Austin Wins, believe it ornot, has a knock in an
RBI off of Kyle Freeland in threead bats. So offensively, you would
think this is an opportunity for theRed Legs here to get some runs on
(29:49):
the board, especially if Mon Toskinpitch as well as he did last time
against the Rockies. But Freeland hasbeen in good form as of late.
They just came off of a seriesagainst the Kansas City Royals, which are
one of the better offensive teams inbaseball. In Kansas City, Freeland went
seven innings, gave up one runand walked one guy struck out five.
(30:12):
Did that on eighty nine pitches,so extremely pitch efficient. He's gonna be
fresh. The last time he pitchedwas July fifth, obviously, five days
ago. Came out against the WhiteSox on June thirtieth, six and two
thirds, gave up two runs throughjust eighty pitches. So back to back
appearances, he only goes He goesseven and then six and two thirds doesn't
(30:33):
throw ninety pitches in either of them. So Kyle Freeland attacks the strike zone.
Is very pitch efficient and should beinteresting to see how the Reds approach
him tonight. Yeah, you mentionedthe season that it's been a nightmare start
to the season. On opening dayhe went two and a third Austin ten
hits, tenor in runs his eraafter opening day thirty eight, So to
(30:56):
be at six right now, Yeah, much better spot, and as you
mentioned, as of late, hewas out. I believe he went from
April fourteenth and he was out withan injury until June twenty third. Since
he's come back from injury, thesix innings against Washington, no runs,
six and two thirds, against theWhite Sox two runs, and then the
(31:19):
outing against the Kansas City Royals thatyou just mentioned. So he has been
much better as of late since comingoff of dealing with his injury. So
obviously something to watch for as thatgame gets underway tonight. As it pertains
to the standings, not a tonhas changed. The Reds are nine games
back now of the Milwaukee Brewers, who have slowed a little bit. Milwaukee
(31:42):
has lost six of their last ten. They have slowed from that torrid pace
they've been on, and much ofwhat this season has been has been keeping
an eye on the wildcard race. The Reds enter today's play three and a
half out of the final wildcard slotin the National League. Another thing to
keep in mind with the Milwaukee ifyou kind of look ahead to their schedule
(32:06):
the way that we've kind of beenpaying attention to the Reds. They're in
Pittsburgh right now, or excuse metheir home against the Pirates and Nationals prior
to the All Star Break, aseries you would give Milwaukee the edge.
Then they go to Minnesota, who'sa very good team, and they are
at the Cubs home against the Marlins, home against the Braves. So certainly
a winnable stretch for the Brewers. But in the month of August, not
(32:30):
only do they play the Reds andthe Braves, but they also play the
Dodgers and the Guardians. Seven gamesagainst those two teams. So certainly a
chance in the month of August forMilwaukee to continue to come back down to
earth real quick on Pittsburgh. Kindof looking around Major League Baseball, it
was cool yesterday. Did you seePaul Skins in Milwaukee? Yeah, with
(32:52):
Bob Yuker. Yeah, like madeit a point, wanted to desperately meet
Bob Yucker and they made it happen. That's really cool, Yeah, because
that's that's just being a fan ofthe game from Paul Skians and knowing,
Okay, I'm in Milwaukee. Igot to meet Bob Buker, who's a
legend in himself. Yeah, soreally cool stuff. Speaking of Paul Ska,
did you see that Livy Dunn isreturning back to LSU to defend the
(33:15):
national champion. How much money doyou need? Yeah, no, kidding,
unbelievable. I would have ridden offinto the sunset. Yep. Uh,
you know what to her, youknow to to her point, I
would imagine wouldn't want to spend toomuch more time in Pittsburgh either. Also,
last night a rare night at theplate for uh, how bad you
want to get out of Pittsburgh.I'm going back to college, going back
(33:36):
to college, even though we gotall the money we need. Rare Last
night, Jose Ramirez of the Guardiansh in a win over the Tigers.
Three hits, three walks at theplate. That doesn't happen very often,
intentionally walk three times at the plateat that three walks, three hits.
That was a Guardian's win as well. One other baseball note, did you
(33:58):
see that he's joined the home runderby nice Ose Ramirez? J. I
thought the conversation we briefly had yesterday, you and I, and then we
had the same thing with mo.I thought there was a lot of merit
to it. And you asked thequestion yesterday with the deadline, so much
conversation around the deadline. If you'reNick Krawl and you're sitting back and you're
(34:22):
watching what's going on, what wouldprohibit you from making a move now as
opposed to waiting to the deadline.Right, we always talk about, well,
let's see what things are out atthe deadline. What would prohibit them
from trying to be better? Now? We both agreed on it. Mo
agreed and said, if as longas you're getting a player that is good
for this year and he's going tobe a part of this team in the
(34:43):
future, absolutely, why wait,go do it now? That to me,
that would send more of a messageto the fan base and the clubhouse
than anything else. Not we heldon till the break. Let's make a
small acquisition here or maybe not thisteam again, I know they just got
swept by the Tigers, They've wonfive out of eight, they're playing a
(35:07):
little bit more consistent. Why notgo at someone now that's gonna help this
team? It just makes sense ifyou see yourself as a buyer. Now,
if behind closed doors and you givethe truth see them to Nick Crawl
and you say, okay, youknow more than anyone Nick Matt McClain's diagnosis.
(35:27):
You know where this team is atTruthfully, do you see this team
contending in the second half? Andif he had truth say maybe he says
no, and then there's your answer. But the way they've played, got
the second pick in the MLB draftcoming up, and they've got two more
against this Rockies team before they playthe Miami Marlins, who I believe from
(35:52):
a National League standpoint, Marlins aretied in the win column with the Colorado
Rockies. So the Marlin have beenjust as bad as the Colorado Rockies.
The only team that's been worse isthe Chicago White Sox. So you've got
now a five game stretch of verywinnable games. As you sit four games
(36:13):
under five hundred, it does makesense to look at that now and say,
okay, let's do it now.Have you looked much at the schedule
coming out of the break, Austin, No, I haven't really, to
be honest. I know they playthe Nationals. It's a nine game part
of a thirteen games in a rowagainst teams below five hundred. It's a
(36:35):
nine game road trip, but itis Washington at Atlanta, at Tampa Bay
and then you come home versus theCubs, the Giants and then you go
back to the Miami Marlins for fourbefore another trip to Milwaukee to face the
Milwaukee Brewers. Yeah, so Iwouldn't say terrible teams out of the break.
I wouldn't say many great teams obviouslywhat Atlanta has still and Tampa has
(37:00):
played better as of late. ButI would consider the month of July having
winnable games. I would consider atleast into early August having winnable games.
You'll see a lot more in lCentral matches. Go get better today if
you can, or go get bettertomorrow if you can, if you're Nick
Krawl, if you truly believe thisteam can make a run. Let's take
(37:21):
a break. We will put arap on our number one when we get
back, and we will look hto welcome in Keegan Nickoson from Bearcat Journal
dot com to kick off our numbertwo of this the Wednesday edition of sincey
three sixty. You're listening right hereon ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station as
a service of Skyline Chile. ESPNfifth thirty Welcome back, since e three
(37:58):
to sixty ESPN fifteen third Cincinnati SportsStation, a service of our friends at
Skyline Chili whenever you're feeling good andhungry at skyline time. I have a
skyline question for you often. Doyou think skyline tastes different at different places?
Like, do you have a favoriteplace to have skyline? Because you
could find skyline at paypor Stadium, you could find it at TQL, you
(38:19):
could find it at Great American Ballpark. Do you have a favorite venue to
have skyline? Favorite location? Yeah, uh yeah, I have a couple.
I think location very for whatever reason, I think I think skyline always
tastes better at the ballpark. Ittastes better at King's Island. I've heard
(38:44):
that. I've heard that, andI think it tastes better at the Blue
Ash location. I don't think I'veever gotten skyline at King's Island. You
never throw some skyline down and thenwent and got on the beast. Listen.
I can barely ride a roller coasterwith an empty stomach or with a
full stomach. Yeah. But mytwo favorites growing up, the closest one
(39:04):
was Troy, Oh and Troy wasawesome. Living here now, Oakley is
my favorite. The Oakley skyline isone of the best. Actually, I
saw one of my favorite comedians wasthere just yesterday or two days ago.
Zachary p. P Piona. Idon't know how to say his last name.
He was a big viner back inthe day Long story short. He
shows up to Cincinnati passing through andstops at the Oakley Skyline and said it
(39:29):
was fantastic. So yeah, thosetwo are my favorites. But it does
seem to always taste better at theballpark. I'll tell you that, you
know it was. It was weird, dude. Two weeks from now or
two weeks or okay, hold onstand by three to two one. A
week from this friday. Yeah,I'm going on vacation. A week from
this Friday. I'm at ryan Geistfor Cincy sixty. I have a morning
(39:51):
flight. They have breakfasts at theSkyline at CVG. Yes, the ot
man is going to try skyline breakfastfor the first time to start off his
vacation. Now, can't wait. You're gone next Friday, the following Friday,
the twenty sixth, Opening day,Part three. That's what I'm here
at the ballpark. Yeah, becausewe will have sincey three to sixty from
(40:14):
the Holy Grail on the twenty sixth. I believe that's during training camp as
well, yeah, it's one ofthe first training camp practices. I think
that's a season ticket holder only day. Yeah, but you can come out
and hang out with us before youhead over to practice if your season ticket
holder talk. By the way, this Friday, a couple days from right
now, mo Egger will be inat the Holy Grail from three to six
(40:37):
doing his show. So we arebetween Holy Grail and Ryan Geist coming up.
I'm bummed that I'm gonna miss therhyin Geist show. Dan Hord I
think is gonna be. He's gonnastop by celebrating one year of since he
rains? Am I not mistaken light? Since he light? Yes, so
we'll be We'll talk since he rainstoday with Ken Tracy at two a week.
We're gonna talk to Kegan Nixon injust a couple of minutes. You
know what, I think you shouldask Keegan to start the interview. What
(41:00):
how do you spell Cincinnati? Yep, just to see if he can do
it. Yeah, put him onthe spot. Yeah, We're gonna do
that with Keegan to round out myskyline conversation last night. And this was
like weeks ago. Because we havethe baby at home. My sisters had
a baby, and uh, thesummer, Wilder likes to spend the night
(41:20):
over my parents' house, and mysister like a week ago, was like,
hey, let's circle next Tuesday forWilder to spend the night because he
looks forward to it. And Iforgot and I get a call on him.
They're like, are you bringing Wilderover? So I brought him over
and they're in the kitchen. BigSteve is making some homemade Skyline over the
stove, and I got to giveit to him. He's in there,
(41:43):
he's making the skyline. He's gothot dogs on and he is like grating
the cheese fresh right there, nokidding, Like, man, you're going
all out. Wilder said it wasthe best Skyland he's ever had. There
you go, so shout out toBig Steve for that that. You know,
I will give Skyland some credit onthat. When you like get it
from the store, it's just asgood as going to an actual location,
(42:04):
agreed. And a lot of likecompanies have not been able to perfect that.
The skyline has well said, Icould eat about seven chilitos right now,
right now, right now. Lastly, before we finished the hour,
did they DoorDash that's a good question, because I'm I'm gonna investigate that tack
on DoorDash. But I've told myselfI was going to stop doordashing unless they
(42:27):
want to sponsor part of the showand send some credits my way. Lastly,
and I say this because we don'tdive into politics at all on this
show. There was a moment lastnight and I just have to I have
to do this. There was amoment last night. If you watch the
debates, whenever they were Trump andBiden started discussing golf handicaps, and it's
(42:49):
kind of died down a little bit. And then Trump had a rally last
night and Trump says he's officially challengingJoe Biden to a eighteen hole golf match.
And he goes on to say hewill give Joe Biden ten strokes per
side or twenty strokes for this golfmatch. And he says if Biden wins,
he will donate to any charity ofBiden's choice one million dollars. The
(43:15):
kicker is as President Trump, reformer President Trump is explaining this. He
says it will be huge, Itwill be one of the most watched sporting
events ever, could be bigger thanthe Ryder Cup might even be bigger than
the Masters. And at that point, I just don't know where we're at
anymore. I don't know where we'regoing as a country. And again I'm
(43:37):
not making this political. If we'reassuming that a golf match between Trump and
Biden will outdraw and outview the Masters, then we are in a dark time.
I'd watch it, I would absolutelywatch it, but I don't know
if it's bigger than the Masters.Oh it's not, or bigger might be
(43:58):
bigger than the Ryder Cup. ButI would love to see the match happen
with that. No better way toget the King and Garrison. You know,
whoever wins the election should be theRyder Cup Captain. Yes, sorry,
Keegan Bradley, you've been kicked out. Uh keg and Nickison joins us
when we get back a't Sincy threesixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station thanks

(45:29):
here with Cincy three sixty. Aswe get underway in our number two big
twelve media day happening yesterday for theCincinnati Bearcats, we'll talk right now with
a man who had boots on theground in Las Vegas at Allegiance Stadium,
Keegan nickoson a Bearcat journal dot com. Keegan what's up? Nothing much,
(45:50):
You're doing pretty good. Boots stillon the ground here in Vegas. I
love it right now, So goingTod Kegan. I hate to do this
because I don't like putting people onthe spot when they call in, Uh,
can you spell Cincinnati for us?Is one N and two T.
(46:12):
I don't know, it's really hard. Most said yesterday, is it the
most misspelled major like sports city namethat we have? Probably it has to
be. I don't. I justdon't know. I get a layman misspelling
it. But when it's a nameplate above the jersey, it's the big
book conference that that's another level ofwe need to copy editors somewhere and it's
(46:37):
checking over stuff all right. Froma big twelve media day standpoint itself,
one of the biggest things that stoodout to me was the news of Dante
Corleon. As Scott Soudderfield said, back to doing some running with the team.
It feels like nothing but positive newsright now as it pertains to Dante
Corleone, obviously the best player onthe Cincinnati Bearcat. Yeah. I think
(47:02):
the only positive news you can haveis that he's on track and he's where
he's supposed to be in his rehabprocess. It's very good that he's back
with the team. It's very goodthat he's going through workouts, whether it's
conditioning, whether it's waylofting. ButI still think he's still a good amount
of way of being able to makecontacts, put on the pads, and
(47:22):
go through your full practice, andthat's where Cincinnati needs him to be if
he wants to be back with theteam. You know, John Cunningham,
he talked about it yesterday. Hebasically said, you know, we're looking
at this and his health is firstand foremost the most important thing. So
we have to get him with ourdoctors, we have to get him as
specialists in the area, and thenwhen his personal health is rich should be,
(47:45):
then you start having the discussions abouthim being back on the field and
him putting the uniform back on andcontributing to UC. But I think right
now he's where he's supposed to be. But I don't want a lot of
people to get too excited and thinkthat, you know, he's gonna definitely
be stopping at up week one. It's a really unique situation. It's not
(48:07):
a bruise on his leg or youknow, somewhere on his arm or his
shoulder. It's a blood plot andhis lung, so it's super serious.
They have to take every possible precautionbefore he gets back on the field.
Outside of the Dante Corleone knows youwere able to listen to Scott Saderfy you
mentioned John Cuttingham, There any othernoteworthy items that stood out to you from
(48:29):
Scott's adderfield speaking yesterday. Yeah, you know, I talked to him before
he left, and I wanted toask him about cornerbacks because I wasn't able
to get to that in the breakoutsessions and the and the big pressures.
And basically what he said is,you know, after Jordan Young, we
still have to figure out who's goingto be you know, CD two,
(48:50):
CD three, CD four, JordanRobinson from Kentucky just got to campus after
committing in May, but there weresome issues that he had process but he's
officially enrolled now. O'manni Arnold,a young guy from Idaho comes in,
and then you have Willie Goodwin andJason Johnson as true freshman coming in at
(49:13):
the quarnerback position. So there's someopportunities for some guys to step up,
but you know that position, whichwas a struggle last year. They still
have to figure out where they're aton that and fall camp is going to
be huge and deciding who's going tobe behind Jordan Young in that position and
who's going to be, you know, trying to cover some of the best
athletes in the country in these bigprovide receivers. It felt like by all
(49:37):
accounts that the four players that wentto media Day to represent the Cincinnati Bearcats
all handled themselves very well and didnothing but to portray a positive light on
the University of Cincinnati. Talk abouta couple of those guys, Corey Kinner,
Luke Candra, what they mean tothis team in your opinion, what
they're going to mean to this offensethis year. Who needs to take a
(49:59):
major step foward for Scott's out afield. Yeah. My favorite thing about Corey
Tiner is he isn't leaning on hislast season's success that it's going to carry
him into this year. You know, rushing through a thousand yard in general,
A lot of people at Cincinnati thathave done that, and you know,
when we talked to him, he'slike, look, I think I'm
(50:19):
pretty fast, but a lot ofpeople don't think I'm that fast because they
got chased down from behind a fewtimes last season. So he said,
you know, I've been working onmy speed. I've been doing the strength
training with Nico, explosive drills, getting the quick twitch muscles faster. And
he's super driven. And I justthink the fact that guys like Dante and
Mason Fletcher and Corey Kiner guys whoyou know, they had the draft looking
(50:45):
at them, they had nil dealsfrom other schools on transfer portals, definitely,
and you know they decided to comeback because they loved the city.
And you know, they don't justlove the city, they're also so good
at football and can contribute to theCincinnati team. So for Corey, I
just think, get another thousand yardseason. If you can emulate what they
(51:05):
did with the Russian game last year, you don't even have to eclipse it,
just emulate it, you know. And then you add in Brendan towards
me at the quarterback position and youcan open up the awfum so much more.
And then for Luke Candra, anotherguy, you know, he's he
kind of understands the Cincinnati means beingfrom elder being from the city, even
though He's only in his second yearhere. He cares about the culture,
(51:27):
he hears about the program, andI think he trusts a lot in Scott
and Sadderfield that they're going to beable to turn it around. Kegan,
is there is there a conversation youcould take in from a Big twelve standpoint
about the University of Cincinnati. Obviouslynot the way they wanted to perform last
year and it picks pretty low thisyear. But is there a talk Is
there any type of buzz that youget from other members of the media,
(51:52):
maybe not covering the University of Cincinnatiabout this team. I'm going to be
flat out honest, not really, and I have I have a pretty blatant
example before Satterfield is going up onthe podium for the big presser in front
of everyone. There were some guysbehind me and one of them said,
(52:13):
you know, have you had anyreason to care about Cincinnati on the past
like two three years? Like shouldwe even sit here and watch this?
And I'm sitting there thinking like,Okay, I mean, that's harsh,
but after a three to nine seasonyou kind of understand it, and you
know the media picked them low fora reason, and even Satterfield said,
you know, we don't pay attentionto media polls, but how can you
(52:37):
know what we're going to be whenwe have forty six new players on the
roster, whether it's transfers, whetherit's true freshman And I think there's a
large part where the Shatterfield is staffs. They still have a lot to figure
out about their identity, and that'swhat he said. They're going to figure
out their identity and who they arecome fall camp, when they can get
everyone together and they know who theyhave and where people are going to be,
(52:58):
how many stats people are going toget and all that kind of stuff.
So you know, when August comesaround, there's going to be more
discourse about this team, and youknow they're going to have to prove a
lot of people wrong because there's alot of people that are really low on
Cincinnati and you can't really blame themat the end of the day, Keegan,
if this team is going to provea lot of people wrong and they're
(53:20):
going to exceed the expectations that havebeen set, what are the main reasons
why they'll do that. I thinkthat they're going to rush the passer and
get turnovers on defense. I thinkthat's something last year that they just didn't
do in the games that they didthem. I'm thinking about Houston, I'm
thinking about Hit. Those were gamesthat they were able to win, big
(53:43):
road games. So it's all aboutslipping momentum and you know, these fast
moving offenses, and I think thatthis new defense is going to give a
lot of people issues, but Ithink that it might take some adjustment to
you know, Matt Campbell said ityesterday talking about the three three five his
defensive team, that a lot ofpeople have adopted it and it hasn't really
(54:04):
worked out as well as it hasan Iowa state Now Cincinnati has an Iowa
state person that was involved in thefounding of the three three five in Tyson
Bite. So it might go alittle bit smoother, but there might be
some rough patches. But with thefive offence of backs, I think you
have to focus on your community turnovers, docummitting, tournament turnovers, gating turnovers.
(54:24):
For there's interceptions and then that's anotherthing that makes not the crew's possible
absence so much harder is you know, he's got to rush the pastor.
They have to get pressure on thepastor and it's looking like Jalen Hunt right
now is the guy who's going tofill in for him and his assents if
you were to miss time Tagan obviouslynot just with U see, but a
(54:46):
very hectic media day yesterday. TheMike Gundy comments have have now gone viral.
Any other major news to take awayfrom at least day one. I
know Day two is underway now,but I know, Bret your Max spoke
yesterday, anything of note from aBig twelve standpoint as a whole that you
(55:06):
took note of? A yeah,I mean talk Mike Dunne, you talk
about just oh something you don't sayever about called Jeff level. There's not
a great example of set. ButI actually saw someone there like he's putting
on a masterclass on how they drawattention to himself and not his players.
Sure so if that was his strategy, he definitely figured that out. But
(55:28):
in terms of other developments, I'mreally enamored by this, the new tablet
system and the new Anier communication systemthat they're going to have, And the
Big Fellow said that they partnered withMicrosoft for those Sideline tablets, and Kenny
Dillingham of the Arizona State said, you know, in a way it makes
it easier, but in a wayit makes it harder because your opponent can
(55:51):
adjust so much quicker and seeing likethe plays that just happened on the sideline,
they can see every little bit.So you almost have to game plan
double to be prepared for the changesthat are going to have to happen.
When you have to adjust to bedoesn't that your opponents make So it's going
to be really weird seeing that onthe sideline. I'm trying to think of
(56:12):
an over under number for how manytablets are broken on the sideline stadium ninety
players. I think that's going tobe an interesting thing. But as far
as headlines, other than the MikeDundy thing here, there wasn't a ton.
His press conference in front of everyone'salways super entertaining. But when you
go on an ESPN you said andsay something like that, it's it's brutal,
(56:35):
Keegan, while you've been there, anything from a Vegas standpoint that you've
taken in, if you're taken ina show, have you taken in any
any types of food there? Iknow you got Chipotle. I saw that.
That's a big stretch. Anything elsethat you've done with your time in
Vegas to this point. Yeah,I'm getting cooked for getting chaplet and that
would happened. I did get inand out, and I thoroughly disappointed.
(56:59):
That was my first time having anin and out, and now I have
a new appreciation for five guys.I think five guys is better than in
and out. But other than that, you know, I'm not a guy
who's gonna, you know, goout and party and go out and gamble.
I went to bed at ten orten pm last night, which is
pretty embarrassing to say on the radioin Vegas. But I'm still on the
(57:20):
eastern hours, so i haven't gottenout a lot. And you know,
when you walk outside and it's onehundred and eighteen degrees, we kind of
just want to get back in time. So it's been it's been really fun.
I definitely would love if they hadit here again, though some people
just wanted to be in Dallas,But you know, I think it's a
it's a great city, it's agreat experience, and it's not something I
(57:40):
get to do off you mentioned stillthere day too. Is that's just a
new wave of teams that have comein. Anything else on the schedule today
for day to a Big twelve mediaday. Yeah, so it's the other
eighteens and it's basically coach Prime Day, right. Oh. Yes, when
you don't have when you don't havethe head nines of Oklahoma and Texas in
(58:01):
their final year at Big Book mediadays, you kind of bring in Dion
Sanders and he just takes over theshow. So he's here with Shador Sanders,
Shilot Sanders and their Hunter and thenTravis Hunter who was actually supposed to
be here ended up not coming. So that's kind of a headline on one
than what's going on there. Butyeah, it's basically coach Prime Day here
(58:22):
to mean the stadium awesome stuff.Keegan as always, Man, I know
you're busy, I know everything goingon with Big told me to thank you
so much for your time and lookforward to talking against him. Man,
absolutely, thanks, Tanner, appreciateit. Yes, sir from Bearcat Journal
dot com Keegan nickoson joining us rightnow. Do you think Keagan Austin should
be taking heat for going to Vegasand eating at Chipotle? No, Chad
(58:45):
Brenda was cooking him. Yeah,Chad, you know, Chad's a big
Chad's a foodie guy, like that'shis thing. He loves food. Into
Chad's credit, he knows a lotof good spots. Yeah, that would
be the same way. I wouldget to Van and I would eat what
I know. Yeah, listen,I am not paid to say this.
I'm not paid to say anything aboutany restaurant actually, but Chipotle is my
(59:07):
favorite food. I would eat thereevery day if I could. Okay,
so Chipotle, if you're listening,I am available yep for endorsement. I
stand with Kegan nickoson Okay, bigthing there, Coach Prime day. That
would be worth the price of admission. It's worth the price of admission.
Do you think Coach Prime is sittingthere yesterday and he's like, my Guandy,
(59:29):
what are you doing? This ismy day? My day? Or
do you think Coach Prime has toramp it up today? Yeah, he'll
steal some of the headlines, forsure. What can you steal though it's
not it's not your one. Now, I would have some questions for you.
It's year two. I saw yesterdaywe talked about kind of the FPI
and what they were looking at theBig twelve. I think FPI's projected wins
(59:51):
was three point seven. That's almosttwo less than the Bearcats, and yet
Coach Prime will find a way tospin Colorado probably win a Big twelve championship.
That's what he's great at. Nowlet's play football. Is he great
at the end game? So that'smy question outside of what he did to
Tac does have a lot of goodcoaches around him. If he's smart on
that, I'll give him that. And he's got one of the best players
(01:00:13):
in the country and Travis Hunter, and he's got one of the best quarterbacks
in the country and his son,Shadoor Sanders. I'm gonna be paying close
attention to Shador Sanders this year becausepeople already seem to think that he's a
first round pick. I don't necessarilysee that. Lord knows, I've been
wrong about quarterbacks before see Stroud,KMMA, CJ. But I will be
paying close attention to him because Idon't know that that's an NFL quarterback.
(01:00:36):
How far into the conversation today, until Coach Prime has asked his concerns with
Cincinnati and Tyson Vite's three three fivedefense coming to Colorado in late October.
If now here's the difference between meand maybe Keegan or any other regular esteem
journalist. I would be elbowing myway to the front to ask that question,
(01:00:57):
just to see the reaction, notonly from Prime, but from everybody
else. Yep, what is thisguy doing asking about Dyson? Weis three
three five? That's what I woulddo. You're at media days, you
got everybody right there. Why notto find a way to make some headlines
on your own. Yeah. Ishould have told that to Keegan. Keegan's
fine, he'll figure it out.Yeah. Once he finishes that to Pro
Bowl, he'll head over to Prime. Are you concerned that with the first
(01:01:20):
question he actually did not spell outCincinnati. Yeah, I am a little
bit because he said two ends isa two t. He never once walked
through the actual spelling, which doesconcern me a little bit. I'm going
to give him the benefit of thedoubt. It clearly was loud in there.
Yeah, that he maybe couldn't exactlyhear what you said, Okay,
and I'm gonna give him the benefitof the doubt. I get him the
benefit of the doubt by not pushing. But you know, I got it.
You know it is. It doesbring up the point it's not Cincinnati
(01:01:44):
Bearcat journal Dot com. It's BearcatJournal dot He don't have to sell.
How often does he really spell it? Now? You got me thinking,
do you know how to spell it? Yes? How do you spell C
I N? Uh? Huh CI N and A T I S sinnati
dude and I? Yeah, thereyou go. It ain't that hard job,
bro to me? It's C IN C y Schirch dot com,
(01:02:07):
Yes, orry or krs cinc dotcom. Yeah, we've got a lot
of it, but yes, Cincishirts dot com, Thank you to Cinci

(01:03:19):
Yes, this is a quick touchand go, just enough time to
do a little bit of housekeeping.Let's go ahead and finally announce the winner
of the best talkback during the monthof February. And the winner is Ronald
Reagan. For that time he didhis talkback entirely in German. Congracts.
Mister President, you win a freeball washing at the Camic Country Club.

much to impress John Michael's mole.Wow. Oh, you gotta wonder if
John Michael listening to that? Therewe go. Why are we even getting
pumped off about this refe heinz guy, He's just gonna be another Elie de
(01:04:29):
la Cruz and not gonna stick around. Okay, I won't be convinced personally,
and that's all the Marris. I'mnot gonna be convinced personally until he
refines with the red Was that moleaving a talkback? Kind of sounded like
mo unbelievable? Tony Austin Johnie fromout Healthy Happy Dump Day. We're gonna
(01:04:55):
do a start bench cut because I'mbasic. Okay, these are things you
are forced to do the rest ofyour life, so you are starting the
one you'd be the most comfortable with. Forced to take cold showers the rest
of your life, no more hotshowers. Forced to drive the exact speed
limit any road you are on,can never go over or see. You
(01:05:15):
have to get a haircut every sixmonths, no more, no less.
I will start cold showers, Iwill bench a haircut every six months,
and I will cut driving the speedlimit because there are some speed limits I
just don't understand. I agree withyou. Also, this is a straightforward,
honest question. Please do not dodgeit. Is there going to be
(01:05:38):
another election? If so, when, Yes, am I getting replaced?
If so, when you will bereplaced? Now, I guess I'm just
stuck with this. I'm probably gonnadrink more. I can't confirm her to
I. I can clean up myaxe, so let me know. Yes,
it will happen. We uh,Austin and I do have to get
(01:05:58):
together in planning on that because normally, normally it would have happened by now
around this time. Yeah, maybewhen I go on vacation, you can
do it. That's a good point. I don't know if I want to
be a part of it. Soyesterday I decided to actually sit down and
watch the Reds. Oh, youknow, the Rench could win this whole
(01:06:19):
thing. But then again, yesterdayit was the first day I experimented with
drugs. Don't do drugs. Idon't do drugs, but want the Wisenheimer
would care. Hey, the juryis still out. According to my friend
the Major League Baseball of the Hunterselection for the All Stars, there's still
(01:06:45):
contemplating Hunter Wobbleston. Hutter went fromHunter Thompson at last, but not least
Hunter Biden. I think Hunter Bidenjust left to talk back before you,
Phil Newport, Happy birth Thanks. The boys have been saying for years the
(01:07:06):
Retts want to get a bunch ofpeople in the seats for when a guy
makes his big league debut. Alittle promotional idea gets called up to the
show, gets a hit, it'sa home run, but it goes down
to skyline the next day. Itpicks up a free County Okay pitcher gets
in, wrecks up a couple ofk's. He walk down the skyline.
Get Cony's goddle. The Roses getthat free small pizza could be the move.
(01:07:29):
I am weigh in on that toHappy birthday, man, Thanks man
Hey. With regard to the runningback of Oklahoma State, I don't know
why Guendy's looking up what the legallimit is. He's twenty years old.
We all know what the legal limitis. Zero start and stop right there.
Wow, I don't even know howold the kid was. Man.
Talk about a player's coach, ManGandhi's up there. You don't even care
(01:07:51):
if his players drinking and driving. My high school coach, he caught us
burning a dart. He'd have usrunning laugh, so we puke. I
mean it's fifty times giving the ballfifty times. That's a punishment, right
there. Coach. Yeah, justletting rack out some stats. But man,
he just doubles down there saying, hell, I've been drunk driving thousand
(01:08:12):
times down he'd become a coach.I appreciate burning a dart, burning a
dart and high school appreciate that.Hey, dude's Brandon from Anderson. Tony's
early birthday wishes yesterday had me reminiscingof two thousand and seven when I was
playing drums in a heavy metal band. We had signed a record deal and
(01:08:33):
we were torn out west in California, and we thought it'd be hilarious to
announce every night on the stage thatit was the drummer of the headlining band's
birthday, although it never was.So if you're listening out in California,
at least kopiglianos I T Julio. There you go, Brandon from Anderson,
(01:08:53):
let's go. Yeah, I can'tseem to find my way out of this
rabbit hole from yesterday, So alltime interception leader, you guessed that far
far? Yeah? Three hundred andthirty six, which is fifty nine more
interceptions than second place George Blanda. How about all time touchdown leader Tom Brady
second fourth on that list. Yeah, or threat far five hundred and eight
(01:09:17):
behind Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.See all right, yeah, save yourself,
get out of the hall. Heyguys, got matters. Guy,
hope you're doing well. Great show. Hey, I wanted to talk to
you about what you was mentioning earlierabout the markets. Why is it do
you think since a market is soeasy on sports figures like the questions are
(01:09:39):
just like softballs. And then thenew kid, is it Hines or Hens?
I'm sorry if I butt your lastname. Can you tell me a
little bit more about him? He'sdoing really good the last few games.
It's unbelievable. Do you want totake the media side of things, Austin,
I don't have a real good explanationas to why it's so easy,
(01:10:02):
and I don't know that it's supereasy, but it's just there's less people
and there's more of a personal relationshipI think with a lot of the organizations.
But there are certainly plenty of questionsI wish would be asked. Sometimes
I scratch my head at why theyaren't. I don't really have a good
(01:10:25):
explanation for that. Rhese Hines isthe correct pronunciation of his name. He
is from Niceville, Florida. Hewas born in two thousand. What else
can I answer for you. Ithink he's a top twenty prospect for the
Reds. He was the forty ninthoverall pick in the twenty nineteen draft.
He's got really good power. He'sgot great strikes out a lot typically,
(01:10:46):
yeah, but yeah in the miners. In the minors this season, he
had thirteen home runs, but hasalso struck out one hundred and twenty six
times, so the strikeout numbers werehigh. For resigns. Who would win
a one mile race? Contestant Ais a five to six sports writer who
(01:11:09):
runs a couple of miles every day. Contestant B is a six foot five
former NFL quarterback who eats like atoddler and has man boobs. Come on,
I'll take Contestant A. Yeah,Meana times. I guess she was
going to Dan Orlovsky last night yesterday. Yeah, but it felt personal.
It's just glad to know that youguys are not you and Orlawski are not
(01:11:30):
all that different. I'm winning thatrace. Wonderful. Be a good idea
to send Mike Gundy to a madmeeting with one of the chapters out there
in Stillwater or something like that.Maybe he needs to come face to face
with what reality is. Maybe thealan On treatment centers. Wow, happy
hump day. You know. TheReds offense has gotten most of the attention
over the last couple of days, and rightly so. But I'd like to
(01:11:53):
give credit to the bullpen's work thisseries last night, after Lodolo was beat
around a little bit in the nickof time. It sends the Reds relievers
just into the game, cruise throughthe Rockies bets. Just one buck crossed
the plate over five and a thirdinnings. It's a pen of countless suitors.
M okay, I get it,Fashioning gentlemen. This is Kate from
(01:12:16):
Montgomery. Hope you both are havinga time. So little inside info.
I think on Reese signs. Iran into his mom yesterday at their Rookwood
Whole Foods and it sounds like theReds are talking about trading him for him.
He's having such a Breese is havingsuch a killer star Wow, how
(01:12:41):
about this as much as you loveReese, Yeah, we'll see. Well
listen, I don't know that you'dbe able to. If I'm Nick Krah,
I got to get more than justOtani back. You don't need some
picks, baby player to be namedlater. Cash considered Yamamoto, Yoshiobu Yamamoto.
Now perhaps uh this year Bets,we talked about the strikeouts for resigns.
He was also only hitting two sixteenthrough seventy seven games. Would it
(01:13:04):
have changed your mind with that homerun ball the previous night if you saw
what he did on night two?Or are you still trading it in?
I probably still traded in? Yeah, me too. God here on a
Wednesday, your Highway to Heaven?I like it. Yesterday on The Moeger
Show, Moeger and Paul Danner Juniorwere calling out people who were saying Bengals.
(01:13:29):
Yes. I don't know if theywere calling him out or making fun
of them both, But Tony,I think you're on that list. Probably.
I also think those are fighting words. Who would win in a fight?
You were mo? Mo would kickyour ass? Wow, that's crazy.
That's not even its not even questions. That's absolutely would kick absolutely crazy,
as are the allegations about Bengals, because I say you, you've gotten
(01:13:54):
better. I've gotten way better youhave and did used to be a Bengals
guy. That's Bengals is two guys, five rings, our new version of
Max and whoever had mad boozies?I think. So you're gonna hear a
lot of it with the Olympics comingyyep, Hey, Austin, I'm headed
up to country concert tomorrow, soI'll be right by your hometown. All
(01:14:15):
right, man, I'll see youon on Saturday. Who Saturday Hardy Oh,
Bailey, Zimmerman, Warren Zeeders andI forget who starts at four o'clock.
But it's a pretty good Saturday nightline up, all right, Dan
oh Man. An eighteen hole matchbetween Trump and Biden could be musty TV.
(01:14:35):
That thing would take four days allby itself. Trump would be over
here like no, no, no, no, no no. Former presidents
get mulligan's. They always get mulligans. It's a beautiful rule. I made
that rule, actually, And thenBiden be in the tree line, like
have you seen my golf ball? Can't find my golf ball? What hole
are we on? Gosh? Thatwould be great, and it would be
(01:14:57):
even better if we have like CharlesBarkley in their ear, Oh Barkley on
the mic, like the actual match, Austin's holding one boomer droop. I
don't know, guys, I'm notsure what to make of this team.
Of course I understand the Rocky stink, but uh gotta beat these kind of
teams. But ree Hines, Wow, what a start. Maybe it's time
(01:15:19):
to trade him? What do youguys think? Every great day you knew
it's coming? Is it time totrade him? Hello? This is former
President Ronald Reagan and Wale. Whata treats seeing the Reds put the barrel
of the bat on the ball andscore a barrel full of runs last night.
Sorry and on a serious note,I heard it in your voice on
(01:15:41):
Monday, Mike in l A.And I just want you to know you're
back, maybe up against the wall, but we've got your back and you
will tear down that wall. Nicelydone, very well done. Yeah,
I couldn't listen to the show today. I was busy working. I've been
doing it. Huge job. Comeon now, I gotta get back with
(01:16:02):
my three sixty family. Maybe theReds can play Colorado one hundred and sixty
two times right, big twelve forthe love of God spells Cincinnati right and
uh, let's gay Bengals. Thereyou go. You knew he was just
stealing on that misspellingto Cincinnati for aday. Cincinnati, ci and Ciatt close?
(01:16:30):
Are you nail us close? Happyhumped? They guys had a quick
resk question for you. Yeah,we're talking a little bit about the trade
deadline. Was wondering if there wasany minor leaguers currently in the Red system
that you would consider untouchable in thetrade. Obviously, like a high prospect
goes for a better player, butis there anybody that you would not trade
in any situation for this year?I would call you in Red Louder or
(01:16:54):
both. In the futures game,I'm not moving on from either one of
those. I could move on from. Call your not touching rhet Louder,
maybe not Edwin Arroyo, Okay,Cundy of George of that. First off,
Sydney has no skyline to tell youa lot about Sidney with a joke.
Second off, we've got the nextcoming of Ellie day La Cruz coming
through the system. Boys, We'regonna be We're gonna win the rest of
(01:17:16):
these days on that road trip onthe homestand and if we make it to
Saturday without losing, I'm gonna bejumping in the pond, swimming across the
pond in Fort Larami, Ohio.Austin knows what I'm talking about. WHOA,
Okay, okay, maybe you guysrunning into each other. I hope
I don't run into George. Idon't want anything to do with George.
(01:17:38):
Honey Round representing Mattie is here inZona, sunny hot, very hot,
zoning project about the race last night, but I expected a series sweep in
this. Let's just be real. It's the Rockies. But I'm not poopolling
on any win. It's a wina Benson project. Yep, on swinging
Buddy, We're watching and you're thetime limit. IM liking the fight?
(01:17:58):
Yo? Where is heins getting allhis power? He's got the power,
Yes, he's got the power.I got the power. Hey, Tony,
Austin, I just wanted to knowif you've ever tried skyline chili on
a big red, smoky think aboutit. I can't say that I have.
(01:18:19):
I can't say I have never thoughtabout that you guys are all just
jeenous of Mike Gundy's hair. Weshould bring Winker back at the deadline,
and Joe Burrow should moon the Pittsburghcrowds. Just that's just three random thoughts
on a Wednesday. Yeah. Idon't have a problem with any of them.
(01:18:40):
The box Yeah, wow, don'treally have a reason to call in
today, just calling in, gota little time to kill. Hey,
tone, happy birthday. But yeah, mayso moon Presidential run two be determined,
Oh Audie, the schmuck guys stillsuck guy, Bye bye. That,
(01:19:06):
folks, is what we call rentfree living, rent free Man's dome
piece man. What you should alsoknow and look up about Brett Fahr is
the fact that when he retired hehad literally every single conceivable quarterback record you
could have. So, I mean, Brett farm is firmly a top ten
(01:19:30):
quarterback of all time, and Ican make a very good argument top five.
There you go. Okay, justfound out that I'm coaching Mo Agger's
daughter this year in soccer. Ohand I don't know if I should be
excited or if I should be terrified, because if I do a bad job,
He's probably going to talk crap aboutme on a shew. Sure,
yeah, it should be fun.Okay, now that's interesting. Does that
(01:19:54):
have to go into your thought processif you are a coach and here comes
Crosley, I think we shoul shouldhave a week. I think most should
have you on weekly interview at yourweekly press conference. Yes. The thing
about mo that just terrifies me isnormally I feel like I can read people
pretty well. I can never readMo. Ever, I never know what
(01:20:15):
he's thinking. No, never knowwhat he's going to see a day to
day basis. I know you haveno clue, and it's it terrifies me.
Now we know what tone means byburning darts with his crue. Just
go tone burning darts. Oh Ican throw the darts, I don't burn
the brad. I agree with coachcan Day. You should be allowed to
(01:20:40):
drink and drive. Go Brad. No, it's taking all the fun out
of it. Bring it back. That's what we used to do. Go
out in the country, get inthe truck, just drive, drive,
drive twenty four packs, banks banks, banks, banging up Daddy, Let
me drive. Should bring it back. Allowed drinking and driving responsible miles will
(01:21:01):
just start burning darts on the sidelines. Ago. No, you won't have
to be worried about running into me, Austin, because I'm gonna find your
little short Oh. I need aphoto, need a photo when you find
each other. That's downright, men, is going to be center stage,
(01:21:23):
Tony and Austin. What's more annoyingsomebody misspelling Cincinnati with the two t's at
the end, or somebody who spellsCincy c I n c I. I
think the c I n c Iis worse. Okay, I think so,
I'll say I'll say the misspelling.Originally I could see c I n
(01:21:47):
c I. I could see howthat confuses. I'd actually like to start
a trand where like my daughter callsit, what's stringing things together? Let's
see how many days in a rowwe can wish Tony a happy birthday?
All right, we're at two?All right, tone happy birthday. We're
at two. It was our lastone. Thank you, mercifully, thank
you for the birthday. Wish oneor two segments when we return. We're

Cincy Rains to talk some nil andthen we've got more borrow audio, more
Bengals to get to in the thirdhour, and of course Mohager for quick

(01:23:16):
Thank you to Since He's Shirts. We we haven about five minutes here.
Phone lines will be open five one, three, seven, four nine,
fifteen thirty ten. Trace He's gonnajoin us at the top of our
number three, Austin, why iseveryone saying that Reese Hines as aristete az
Achino Because Aaron came into the bigleagues and then hit a lot of home
(01:23:39):
runs that are really cool and thendid nothing, and then he did nothing.
So but the like the few weeksthat Aristeti's Achino was was here was
really fun. Oh that was anincredible time, and so I enjoyed it
until he fell off. So inthe meantime, I'm just gonna enjoy Reese
Hine. That's the thing. Tilanything happens. He probably won't hit a
home run every game he plays,No, and don't don't make it that,
(01:24:00):
don't make it. Well, it'sAristida's a keynot two point zero.
It might be, it might notbe. Here's the thing, Reese Hines
will have the opportunity to make hisown story because what Reese Hines does to
adjust to the adjustments. Obviously, the strikeout numbers are very high, they
were very high this year through seventyseven games in Triple A. But the
(01:24:20):
power is also there. And look, I will still stand by what I
said yesterday, Austin, give mea player in Reese Hines who has the
opportunity to do that on a nightAnd again, it's not going to happen
every night, but that opportunity thatif you make a mistake as a pitcher,
(01:24:41):
you're going to pay for it.Nothing against Stuart Fairchild, because he's
been really good defensively and he's beengood against lefties. But Stuart Fairchild's not
giving you that night in night out. Nick Martinez not giving you that night
in night out. I still think, regardless, I'm not going to go
as far as this where what aristidedoes a Kenot get playing time on the
(01:25:04):
Red's current outfield structure, Yeah,he probably would have been, yeah,
brought in, And I still thinkregardless, you gotta expect there's gonna be
an zero for four night, allright, He's gonna strike out three or
four times. Regardless of that. What he has shown over a two game
stretch has shown me more that wouldstrike fear into the opposing pitcher than what
(01:25:26):
we've seen for majority of the seasonat that position. Yeah, I mean,
long story short, I mean thinkabout it in the sense of,
Okay, well, Kyle Freeland nowtonight in preparing for the Reds and we're
kind of making fun of this lastweek. Now he's like, oh crap,
I got this dude that can hitme, that can take me deep
knocketybody. Yeah, not somebody thatI have a bunch of tape on and
that I have a pattern in away to get out consistently. Someone who's
(01:25:50):
seeing the ball really well, who'shot at the dish that I don't know
much about. This guy can bea problem for us. And having someone
like that in your line up,even if eventually, and as we all
know, you will cool off inMajor League Baseball, but it now has
an added threat to the lineup. And a Qino did this for a couple
(01:26:10):
of weeks before he cooled down,So you never know how long something like
this can go. And I justI'm blown away by how much people just
love to complain about stuff. AndI think sometimes we get caught up in
sometimes thinking that, you know, just because what people might be saying on
Twitter or on social media is reflectiveof the entire fan base. And I
(01:26:31):
don't think that's true, but Ithink sometimes we can get caught up in
that. I know I can,And maybe it's just important to remember,
you know, what a lot ofpeople are just having fun watching this guy
play, and what he brings tothe lineup now is a power threat that
Stuart Fairchild doesn't and that Nick Martinidoesn't, and that Will Benson for the
most part doesn't that Jake Frayley certainlyhasn't all season long. This is what
(01:26:55):
we've been looking for. We didan entire segment a couple weeks ago about
how they need somebody when everybody elseisn't hitting, to hit the ball over
the fence. And that's what resigns is a mean time. I'm gonna
enjoy that. What else did theyneed? A spark? Yeah, they've
got in the last two nights. Now here's the thing I'll say, it's
not just the power we saw onMonday night. He had what was normally
a single. He made it intoa double with great hustle. He's made
(01:27:16):
a sliding catch in the outfield. He's a guy that transitioned from the infield
to the outfield, so he's stilllearning that position. But the hustle is
there, the defense is there, and look, I know, I know
strikeouts have been a problem, buthe's also been plagued since being drafted by
(01:27:36):
injuries. He's had a quad injury. In twenty twenty one, he missed
a month with a torn meniscus inhis left knee. In twenty twenty two,
he broke a bone in his lefthand and missed six weeks. So
he's never really had a chance toplay while healthy. He's healthy right now,
he's making the transition. Why notget bey him, enjoy this ride.
(01:28:01):
Understand that it will slow down andhe's going to have those nights that
every great hitter does. But enjoyit right now. By the way,
Austin, did you know In twothousand and eight, eighteen Reese Hines faced
Bobby Witt Junior in the final roundof the home Run Derby at Nationals Park
for high school after I did Isaw the highlight of this the other day
(01:28:24):
and he was beat eight to sevenin the finals, just edged out.
But one of his home runs inthat home run derby as a high school
athlete four eighty five four hundred andeighty five feet. So again, fifteenth
rated prospect in the system, gotnice upside. I'm all for it.
(01:28:46):
I'm all for it from resigns andagain he likely won homer tonight. Wouldn't
be bad to dabble on it.Though facing a left handed pitcher. Let's
see what happened. Let's enjoy italong the way, let's talk a little

(01:30:21):
fifteen thirty. It's Cincinnati Sports Station. We've had a lot today with Big
twelve Media Day, had a chanceto talk to Kegan Nicholson earlier in the
show, and with Big twelve MediaDay comes up the conversation of football season.
Of course, we have had avery busy offseason with basketball from a
NIL stand from the University of Cincinnati, and wanted to take some time today
(01:30:45):
with a good friend of mine, board member for Cincey Rains dealing with the
staff coach player relations, Ken Tracyjoining us. Now, Ken, what's
going on? Good, Tony? How are you? I'm good, I'm
excited. Look, this world ofNIL is still even for me, a
little foreign. All I know isI wish Anil was around, you know,
two thousand and eight, two thousandand nine, or we could retroactively
(01:31:08):
go back to those times. Butfor a lot of listeners. It is
still an unknown entity. We hearabout it all the time, but truly,
when you talk name, image, likeness, why is it so important
for SINCEI Rains to on a dailybasis do what they're doing. Yeah,
the reality of it is, youhave two components that are made up of
(01:31:30):
what's happening in today's marketplace. Incollege athletics, you have the nil,
which is the name, image andlikeness, where players are paid for their
name, image and likeness. Andthen you also at the university outside of
it, you have a collective sincehe Rains, And those two components are
what makes up the compensation that's comingin to pay the players. And so
(01:31:55):
as we navigate through this area, you're trying to build the awareness for the
for their name, image and likeness, and you're also trying to build the
awareness because in the Big twelve, the collective component is what drives the money
resource that's coming in for us topay these players. And as much as
(01:32:15):
we don't want to say it,the reality of it is, these players
are looking for compensation when they comein and it's becoming a key point into
the recruiting that's taking place on adaily basis. I want to get into
the recruiting side of it. Ialso want to get into the understanding of
name, image and likeness is nottied in to what they're going to do
(01:32:38):
on the field. It's not likeit's, hey, we're going to give
you this if you reach these goals. And I think an example of that,
and it was an unfortunate example, but hearing from Scott Soudderfield yesterday,
it feels like things are trending ina more positive direction. But Dante Corleone,
one of the most well known CincinnatiBearcats, chooses to not go to
the NFL, comes back, findsthe blood clots and okay, does that
(01:33:00):
mean he's going to be able toplay? Is he not going to play?
Name image and like that. Thatdoesn't translate, that doesn't have any
bearing on what Dante's doing. He'sstill going to get compensated because it is
his name, image and likeness andnot tied to what he may or may
not do on a field. That'scorrect, That's correct NCAA guidelines. You
cannot compensate an employee for what theydo on the field. So the reality
(01:33:21):
of what these players are paid foris their community involvement. That they do
and they are making a difference. We have several of our athletes from the
University of Cincinnati that get involved ona daily basis, weekly basis of making
our community better, working with nonfor profits, getting out there, signing
the autographs, telling their story toyoung people so that they can see what
(01:33:46):
it takes to get to the levelthat they're at and to do that successfully,
it takes a lot of time anda lot of dedication. So back
to your question, No, theyare not compensated for what they do on
the field. They're compensated for whatthey do outside of the day to day
work. And I think that speaksfor itself because I watched all of Big
(01:34:09):
twelve media day yesterday and from anyaccount you see, contingent that was there
did very well for themselves, fromthe way they were dressed to the way
they spoke, and you can tellthat they carry themselves in a certain way.
And I would I assume that thename, image, likeness, and
everything that they've been doing in thecommunity allows them to feel more comfortable in
(01:34:30):
those types of setting. So,yes, this is a tool for these
guys while they're in school and whilethey're playing football or basketball or any other
sport. But you also imagine it'shelping them for what life may be outside
of sports as well, because theyare getting in front of a lot of
people, they're networking in different eventsthat in my opinion, knowing now what
I didn't know when I was inschool, the networking side of it,
(01:34:53):
that's helping these athletes what's going tobe even when their careers from an athletic
side are done. Yeah. No, And that's well said. It really
is, and that's what the collectivehas really focused on. We focus on
the four parts of We set everystudent athlete up at the University of Cincinnati
with a CPA, and they alsohelp and understand and are taught how to
(01:35:14):
create their own LLC. And thenalso in addition to that, we have
a complete system set up where they'reintroduced to endless amount of senior executives that
are associated with the Cincinnati region andthey get the network with them and they
understand what it takes to network,to talk, and to speak in front
(01:35:35):
of a large group of people. And I agree with you yesterday. What
those that's just a small handful ofthe many, many athletes that we have
at the University of Cincinnati that havethat ability and that skill set. Talk
to me a little bit now aboutthe side that I think a lot of
people are interested in what let's callwhat it is. Recruiting now looks like
(01:35:56):
it's almost free agency at the collegelevel. I have the ability. I
work with some quarterbacks at the highschool level, and I know from the
game itself, recruiting is changing.College coaches are now able to go and
maybe hand pick guys from smaller schoolsin college that are already physically understanding of
the game, understand the mental sideof being in college. But with that
(01:36:18):
comes the recruiting side. And asmuch as we want to draw up and
like to think that what the campusdoes at University of Cincinnati to sell itself
amazing campus, amazing history, andthe athletic side of things, at the
same time, a lot of whatthese athletes are interested in is the money
side of it. So how doesthis now, I guess we would say
(01:36:39):
partner up with what the coaches doon a recruiting basis as well. Yeah,
I work hand in hand with thecoaches. The reality of it is
the school has to be there. The school's resources, you see, has
some of the best resources in thenation when it comes to football and basketball,
and it's only getting better. Johnand his staff have done a tremendous
(01:37:00):
job on that. The reality ofit is, they get that tour,
they see everything they You've been throughthat and you see it. But now
the equation is, hey, Ken, can you sit down and talk to
this athlete. So there is apiece of that recruiting cycle where they want
to know, all right, tellme what the contract's going to look like,
tell me what I'm going to get, telling me how much I'm going
(01:37:21):
to get paid. When I'm goingto get paid. Am I guaranteed that?
Am I not guaranteed that? Whatdoes the contract look like? There's
a lot of questions, and it'sreally very much like when a athlete sits
down in the NFL standpoint to negotiatewith an agent to get a contract.
It's very similar to that. Today. I sit down with the athletes,
(01:37:45):
I meet with the parents, Imeet with the athlete, and we talk
through and we negotiate basically what theirterms they want. We have standard agreements,
but yet there's a discussion going backand forth to make sure that it
works with parties. When these kidsare coming to the table. Are you
seen in today's landscape that a lotof these athletes or their parents have a
(01:38:09):
number in mind when they come tothese meetings. Well, yeah, the
media hasn't helped, you know, correct, you know, you've got a
lot of mythical numbers that are playingout there, and so yeah, sometimes
it's it's setting that that standard ofOkay, here's what we can do.
Let's really look at maybe seeing ifthat's really happening what you're hearing. So
(01:38:30):
you have to get into a lotof education there because a lot of it
is very misleading and you're not sureif it's real, if it's you know,
if it's truthful, sure that typeof thing. So we're we're doing
a lot of education in that standpoint. When you look at the University of
Cincinnati as a whole, I thinkthere's a consensus or a thought out there
(01:38:55):
for people that don't know, well, this just becomes the rich get richer,
and a lot of these other schoolsthe donor maybe you see, can't
draw in as much as that. And then at the same time, I
look at what Scott Sadderfield has donethis offseason and how many players that you
see football is add it including BrendanSorosby, a big ten quarterback that's coming
to the University of Cincinnati. Ilook at what Wes Miller has done.
(01:39:17):
No one's doing that in college basketball. No one is bringing back that much
of a core of their scoring andalso adding players in the portal like Wes
Miller has done. How successful, how advanced even still in the early stages
of where you guys are at.Has this become because it feels like u
(01:39:38):
SEE has been able to compete witha lot of these other schools in retaining
or bringing in new additions to theteams. Yeah, and it is a
team effort. I mean, there'sno doubt about it. You summarized it
well there. It is a teameffort. Both both Scott and Wes do
a tremendous job of working with theirstaff and getting the best time in there.
(01:40:00):
Now when we sit down with them, from a collective standpoint, we've
got to be ready to go.We had to get our game ready to
go. It's it's like, ifthe University of Cincinnati is going to look
great and the collective is going tolook bad, we're not going to get
the players we need. So itwas truly a team effort to build this
engine, and we've built it outto the point where we are getting the
(01:40:20):
top athletes. You look at thebasketball team, we got the ones that
Wes wanted. You look at whatScott's doing. There were some players that
we missed out on, but overall, Scott got the ones that he had
a mission. He knew what hewas doing. And I don't think the
University of Cincinnati could be any morebetter. It could not be better positioned,
(01:40:43):
sure with the two coaches they haveright now and how they've been able
to embrace and work with the collectivecomponent, because this component is moving every
day. Is there ways that someonelistening and listener doesn't have to be a
multi thousand dollars donor any types ofdonation is helping these athletes. Is there
(01:41:06):
a system in place through SINCEI Rainsthat listeners can go and donate just from
hearing this today. Yeah, theycan go to the website. More importantly,
they can go to the sinci rainswebsite. They become a monthly donor,
they can become a one time donor, whatever they want to do,
and that helps, and that goesAll of that goes directly to the athlete.
(01:41:27):
So I want to make sure everybodyunderstands that we have no paid staff
members at SINCEI rains. Secondly,it works and it gives the avenue for
the coaches to be able to continueto go out and get those players.
And I guess that was my lie. The hardest part is this is something
that you just need to continuously replenish. It's not just a one year of
(01:41:50):
Okay, let's sit back, let'srelax, because we've been able to raise
this. It happens year in andyear out. This is a three hundred
and sixty five day a year forthese coaches as soon as the season ends,
your back recruiting. It's something thatit needs to continuously be replenished,
and it's got to be one ofthe most challenging parts but also one of
(01:42:12):
the most rewarding. It's the hardestpart it is to get the money because
there's a lot of debate going outthere. There's people that like the NIL
structure, there's people that don't.And you know, I can't create an
opinion because the reality of it is, it is what it is. We
have a marketplace today that has createdthis. So we've got to as a
body of the University of Cincinnati. We've got to be competitive in this marketplace
(01:42:38):
or it's going to negatively impact ourprograms at the university. Awesome stuff,
Ken Tracy, board member with CINCIRain's dealing with staff and player relations.
This has been awesome. Thank youso much. I know Ryan Geist has
done a lot with Cincy Light aswell. This show will be on the
road next Friday at Ryan Geist forthe Cincy Light one year anniversary. So
(01:43:02):
cincey three sixty noon to three nextFriday on the on location at Ryan Guy.
Is gonna be a lot of fun. I know Dan Horge is gonna
stop by. We're gonna have alot of fun celebrating Cincy Light. And
thank you for coming in. Thankyou for everything you're doing with Cincy Rains.
This has been awesome. Thanks Tony. There he is, that's Ken
Tracy. I'm Tony Pike. Thisis Cincy three sixty plenty to go.
Still here in our number three. We'll get more Bengals conversation when we return.
(01:43:28):
More to Joe Burrow Audio as well. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Thanks to our friends at Penn Station. Nope, he doesn't know everything
about sports, but he can besslate through it. Loegar to day at
three oh Fosty is back on ESPNfifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports Station. All
(01:43:56):
right, welcome back sincey three sixtya service of pend station on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. All right, we have done this Monday Tuesday.
Let's do this today and let's extinguishthe remaining Joe Burrow audio that we have
because I mentioned Monday and Tuesday. Not only is a great interview, it
really does give a little bit morebehind the scenes of Joe Burrow, his
(01:44:20):
mindset, where he is mentally goinginto the season. We talked about Joe
Burrow being bigger and putting on theweight, and we spent time yesterday talking
about the eighteen game schedule. Whatdo we have left that we've not used
yet, Austin, Well, probablythe longest one is the question that Joe
was asked about getting more comfortable beingfamous, which has been kind of one
(01:44:44):
of the underlying parts of the offseasonwith Joe and his growth. This is
Joe Burrow on pardon my take,I believe Big Cat asked the question,
are you getting more comfortable being famous? I am I think as well.
Difficult, Yeah, sometimes, butI'm starting to just like not really give
it anymore, which I think isgood. And it's just a very odd
(01:45:13):
life. And so I'm starting tojust starting to be a little more open
because it came it became exhausting totry to keep as many things private as
I wanted to. So I'm gettingbetter at it. Yeah, I mean,
I I can sense that you are. It's also I always like appreciated
that you kind of were opening. You're like, yeah, being famous is
weird because a lot of people arefamous, are like this is the best
(01:45:33):
thing ever. It's like it can'tbe the best thing. Well, So
I wear sunglasses indoors because I'm apeople watcher, and now when I people
watch, everybody's looking at me.So I make eye contact with everybody in
the room. And that is justthe weirdest thing. And that is like
every time you look around, youget that like jump in your stomach of
(01:45:54):
like why you're looking at that.Yeah, that's why we're in the corner.
I do empathize with women and understandwhat they must go through. Yes,
i'd say the same thing. Isometimes feel like a hot chick,
Yeah, because are just looking atme. Yeahs. Yeah, it is
weird though, when you talk aboutfame. I don't think that the human
brain was ever set up to havemillions of other people have opinions about you,
(01:46:17):
right, So there's nothing in humanhistory where millions of people could even
know your name. And now you'vegot like enemies, you've got haters,
you've got people that love you thathave never met you, and it can
be very, very overwhelming to beable to process that. And the fact
that you've reached the point where yourealize you understand I don't have to get
about any of this is a bigthing. It's a it's a cool step
(01:46:40):
to make. Also, you're notthat active on social media. I don't
think really enjoy that version. I'mstarting to be a little more active,
I would say, because I waspretty active back in the day, like
in high school. I would makesome like funny tweets or some funny vines.
Yeah, like something like that. It's a great picture. And so
(01:47:02):
I'm starting to do a little moreof that because I kind of enjoyed that.
But I just stopped because like, social media is weird when you're in
my position. Yeah, Okay,so that that to me, I think
that's the biggest progression for Joe Burrow, like hearing him talk about wearing sunglasses
indoors, because that's kind of whohe is to look and see where and
(01:47:25):
what everyone is doing and looking at. And now everyone's looking at him like
that. I think Austin so manypeople just assumed that that would come natural
to people as they become stars, and for Joe Burrow that has become hard.
And you can look at from JoeBurrow's point of view, what do
we do even on this show orin this city, every time he tweets
anything or post anything on social media? Right, we analyze it in a
(01:47:48):
ton of different ways. We talkabout it endlessly. It has to be
hard at the level that Joe Burrowis at. And I've mentioned this before,
you know, think of think ofthe progression of Joe Burrow. He
played at Ohio State. He coulddo whatever he wanted, go wherever he
wanted, eat wherever he wants, gets to LSU stardom starts to come,
(01:48:12):
but still probably in baton rouge limitedto he can kind of be in his
bubble and do what he wants todo. Now, I mean, think
of your life on a daily basis, where you just decide, Man,
I need to run to the grocerystore, I need to run to Target.
I need to run and get food, maybe going to go get fast
food. I need to go getgas. Everything like that now is so
(01:48:32):
different for Joe Burrow because he can'tnormally do anything, And whether you believe
it or not, that takes somegetting used to from a a player standpoint.
That takes some getting used to froma guy who openly is not the
most open guy out there. Yeah, And you know I talked about this
(01:48:54):
too a little bit like I thinkwhen you were gone about and I know
you feel this way as well, being able to relate to him being from
a small town in Ohio and nowlike all of a sudden, all the
things you've ever wanted in your lifelike have happened, all your dreams have
(01:49:15):
come true. And I just thinkthat that's that alone is difficult to deal
with and trying to like the wayhe talked about like being looked at like
a piece of meat. It's likethe world we live in. It's so
difficult for people sometimes to just likenot put athletes on a pedestal and not
(01:49:42):
treat them differently than normal people.Sure, and not be respectful like if
you do see him out to dinneror something along those lines, to not
like to know where the line isto like hey I can approach this person,
or hey I can't. And feelinglike somebody always want something from you
or is always looking at you canhas to be just a crazy feeling.
(01:50:05):
It's that and it's it's just thethought of you can't do anything normal.
Yeah, like I experienced it ona much smaller level, but being from
Cincinnati when I was kind of doingwhat I was doing, going to a
bar or going to a restaurant wasdifferent, like and and for me,
that's why I always kind of youknow, I laugh about all the time.
(01:50:28):
That's why I would go out andreading because everyone in reading already knew
me, right and it wasn't different. You got, you know, publicly
and it's like, oh there's andyou're taking pictures or you're signing out a
grid. I can't even imagine whatI saw at my level compared to what
Joe Burrow does on a daily basis. It just it's so much of a
learning curve and I get and Iknow there's people that say the same thing.
Well, it's it's what comes withbeing a franchise quarterback. I get
(01:50:50):
that, but it also just doesn'thappen overnight. And he's legitimately trying to
to be more open and to showmore of himself to the city, and
I think that should be commended.I also think too, like he doesn't
have much like left to prove onthe football field in terms of, like,
we know he's a great player, and whether or not he eventually gets
(01:51:13):
over the hump and wins the superBowl is like the big thing. But
do you think that finding comfort inputting yourself out there more can help him
be a better quarterback. I thinkit just can help him be more comfortable
in who he is and beyond justbeing a football player, just being a
human being. Absolutely, yeah,And I do think like there's nothing when
(01:51:35):
he does his postgame interviews. Ithink he's fantastic. He's open, he
goes in depth, he does thatwith the media during the week. He's
just not outside of that a verypublic person, right, And there's nothing
wrong with that, But people justassume that a lot of that comes with
the territory of being a professional athleteor a quarterback. In a city like
Cincinnati. Yeah, I give hima lot of credit. And you know,
(01:51:58):
one of the things I had talkedabout when you gone was like,
if I remember even five years agowhen I was twenty four years old,
and the difference in the way thatI saw the world two years later at
twenty six is insane. The amountof growth that happens, like in your
brain at that time in your life. He's accomplished all this stuff, and
(01:52:21):
he's like twenty five, twenty sixyears old, and he's like still developing
as his brain is still developing andall these things he's still learning about.
I find that to be interesting thatthis next step has seen a lot of
that. And you know, Isee a lot of the women going crazy
about him on TikTok, and youknow, him feeling like a piece of
(01:52:42):
meat and guys just staring at himall the time, like that's that's got
to be a surreal feeling. Imean, you even talked about this at
the New Heights broadcast right when youguys get where we Got Wood. He's
afterwards and Joe was there, andI remember you saying, he's just he
just kind of was awkward in theway that he was like looking around and
it feel like he kind of spoketo that there. He he came into
(01:53:05):
Woodies, he went to the veryback, like a corner in the back.
He stood there for a little bit, didn't really talk or he would
talk to people, but he wasn'tactively seeking people to talk to. Stayed
for a little bit and then left. Yeah, like it was more I
think in his mind respectful to stopby because Jason and Travis hit him on
the show. Yeah, then allright, I'm gonna go do this because
(01:53:27):
I want to do this. Andalso it very much, very much could
be part of the Hey I'm goingto try to put myself out here a
little bit. This is a minorstep in that direction. Absolutely, it
could have been something as simple asthat as well. There it is.
Did we do the window as openthing? No, let's do that on
that one. This is it wasonly about thirty seven seconds. This is
Joe about the window being open.Is the window open? I mean you
(01:53:49):
know what that means. You're thatbadass quote, man, it's always open?
There is You're like, yeah, the window's open if I'm here.
Yeah, I was like that isI mean awesome. If you don't feel
like that, then why are youplaying football? Right? Yeah? Right,
your life right now. That's alsoone of those honest answers that then
people are like, oh, he'sso cocky. He's like, no,
he's honestly showing you his confidence.I mean, what do you want me
(01:54:11):
to say, Like, we gottwo years left and after that, we're
gonna say, the CAP's gonna gettough, We're gonna have to make some
hard decisions. We should say thatand be like a secondary is getting older,
we're gonna have to move some moneyaround. Again, just honest and
open an eyes. But I thinkthere's again that there's a lot of validity
to that, to what he's gettingat it is. Uh, there's great
(01:54:36):
stuff from Joe Burrow and a goodinsight into where he's out mentally. Yeah,
and by the way, you canhear all of that. I know
we've given them a lot of lovethis week. Our bosses probably don't like
that. I don't care. Uh. It's the top sports podcast in America.
People know what it is and it'savailable on the iHeartRadio app if you
want to listen to it. They'rebeautiful. Let's take a break, Let's
come back A quicker segment, andthen we'll bring in Moeger for quick Hits
(01:54:59):
and Lock of the Night at sincee three sixty, you're listening right here
on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati SportsStation and a service of Penn Station.
We need your help to protect yourright to AM radio in your car.
AM is always there in times ofneed with the key in fifteen thirty.
(01:55:32):
Welcome back. Since e three sixty. It's ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports
Station and a service of Penn Station. Moeger will join us momentarily. A
couple things to run through real quick. We talked about this before the show
today, Austin, But ESPN dotcom they do. They do this leading
(01:55:55):
up to training camp every year wherethey go through position groups and they make
rankings, and I wanted to Iwanted to bring up two notes, one
that doesn't really pertain to the CincinnatiBengals and one that does pertain to the
Cincinnati Bengals. The first, theexecutives, the coaches, the scouts,
(01:56:15):
they get together and they rank thetop ten NFL running backs going into this
season. Austin. This list fascinatesme for many reasons. Number one on
the list is Christian McCaffrey. Noargument that Christian McCaffrey going into the years
the top running back in the NFL. Here's where things get interesting. Breece
Hall is number two. Last yearhe was Honorable mention. He's dealt with
(01:56:40):
injuries obviously, with Aaron Rodgers notplaying last year, the ability for Breescee
Hall to still have a solid yearI think speaks to his upside. Number
three Nick Chubb. Nick Chubb iscoming back from a devastating severe knee injury.
(01:57:05):
It required multiple surgeries. Right now, he's listed as the number three
ranked running back on ESPN. Numberfour Sakwon Barkley injuries in the past,
going to a new team in Philly. Five is Jonathan Taylor. Six is
bjon Robinson, Seven is Josh Jacobs. Eight is Jamiir Gibbs, who I
(01:57:25):
think should be higher on that list. Number nine is Derreck Henry with the
Baltimore Ravens, which interests me inso many reasons because of what it means
for Lamar Jackson and then number tenTravis Etn. What do you make of
that top ten list, Austin,Because one, there's a lot of question
marks in my opinion on that topten list, and two, I think
(01:57:45):
it kind of navigates and shows whythe running back market is currently what it
is. Yeah, little a littlebit confused by some of the numbers on
that list. I think Breese Hallcan be one of those guys, but
he's on this list because of whatpotential correct. Meanwhile, Nick Chubb is
at number three because of what he'sdone in the past, and Saquon Barkley
(01:58:10):
is probably somewhere in between. Soit's kind of hard to determine what exactly
they mean. I think Jonathan Taylor'sbeen so good for so long, does
he kind of fall off now?Yeah, a little bit. And the
injury thing, you know, weheard them talking about this in Hard Knocks
as well. The data for runningbacks when they passed the age of twenty
seven just is not very good.So McCaffrey being at twenty eight is really
(01:58:32):
interesting. And if he can keepup that pace, especially the way that
Kyle Shanahan uses him, I wouldput Jamiir Gibbs closer to the top of
the list what he can do.It felt like the Lions were very careful
and just kind of getting his feetwet last year, and they can unleash
him a bit this year. Istill like what Saquon Barkley is and what
(01:58:53):
he can be. I still likewhat Jonathan Taylor is and what he can
be, especially with Indianapolis if they'rehealthy. I would have Keegan or I'm
sorry not Kegan Kean Nickoson on earlier. I would have Bejon Robinson and Jamier
Gibbs higher on my list. Yeah, I agree with that. I think
Kenneth Walker from Seattle is a reallygood player. I think he deserves to
be top ten. Aaron Jones,I know that he's no longer with the
(01:59:16):
Green Bay Packers. Aaron Jones isone of the best running backs in the
NFL, and I think he deservesto be in the top ten as well.
Other than that, I don't knowthat I would go much further than
what they have now McCaffrey. It'show big is the gap from McCaffrey to
the next guy. I think it'spretty big, right, Yeah, I
would say it's pretty big. Now. I would put Chubb maybe at number
(01:59:40):
ten. Sure, ESPN goes astep four, a step further, and
they've done this each of the lastcouple of years, and they take the
skill groups they take quarterback, orthey don't take quarterback. They take wide
receiver, running back, and tightend skill players on the offensive side of
the ball, and they take thosethree position groups and they combine them and
(02:00:01):
they give their top teams. Now, this is a list that the Bengals
found themselves very high on the lasttwo years. In twenty twenty two,
the Bengals were ranked number one onthis list. In twenty twenty three,
they were ranked number two on thislist. Now, t Higgins, Jamar
Chase still prominent, Gone is TylerBoyd, in is Jermaine Burton, andre
(02:00:25):
Yoshivas, Charlie Jones, gone isJoe Mixon, in is Zach Moss,
and Chase Brown great upside still unprovenand at tight end good. I don't
know if it's great yet. TheBengals on this list now this year rank
eleventh. Teams ahead of them Atlanta, Los Angeles, Seattle, Detroit,
(02:00:49):
Chicago, Minnesota, Houston, Miami, Philly, and San Francisco would be
hard pressed to put all of thoseteams above the Cincinnati Bengals. For what
it's worth, Kansas City's fourteenth onthat list. So that tells you what
this list is doing. But froma skill player standpoint, Jamar Chase and
(02:01:13):
t Higgins at the top still putthem in an elite category all to their
own. But I think ten eleventwelve is pretty fair for this group as
a whole with what they've lost, and it shows the value of Joe Burrow
in the NFL. Yeah, Andit's a group that you know, this
time next year could be top five. There is so much potential that you
(02:01:33):
know, because of the losses ofguys that have been here and done it
for a while in the NFL,you're going to drop down a few spots
and there's been some movement around theleague, and with with Burrow being hurt,
how much can they get out ofthis group of people that is not
as proven in the NFL. I'vesaid this a thousand times, and we'll
(02:01:54):
say it a lot as we continue. I'm more excited for this offense than
I have been in ten twelve years. Yep. And maybe I'm setting up
expectations too high, but I justlove all the different directions they can go,
and this is a huge opportunity forsome of those guys to explode onto
the scene. And I think that'sa fair ranking for the Bengals, and
I think it could very, veryeasily be flipped around to being a top
(02:02:20):
five group next year. Let's flipthis around to Moger. When we get
back Quick Hits, Locks of theNight, we'll finish up the Wednesday edition
of Cincy three sixty right here onESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Service of Penn Station ESPN threvia thirdparty delivery. Cincy three sixty continues on
(02:02:40):
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It's time for Cincy three sixty Quick Hits
on ESPN fifteen thirty. All right, here we go, Welcome back,
Cincy three sixties, fifteen thirty CincinnatiSports Station. I don't see mo yet.
I just saw him. He wastelling someone in the office the story
about cutting grass and a new neighboror something. Oh well, he's here
(02:03:02):
now. Yeah, I'm just lookingfor in here he's uh. Judging by
Moe's tweet about his show earlier todayand what we've talked about in the hallways
this afternoon, I'm excited for theMoegger show coming your way from three to
six this afternoon. Well, Iappreciate that, sure, but the reality
(02:03:24):
is I have some really really badnews. Oh really bad right, not
for you and not for you guys, necessarily, not for most people who
will be listening today. But thereis a chunk of the audience that I'm
gonna have to deliver some really badnews too. Really yeah, oh no,
(02:03:46):
I'm I don't love doing this, but sometimes you have to take on
some responsibility. Sure, and soI'm gonna do. You're gonna shoulder that
today. I'm going to shoulder theresponsibility of delivering some bad news to some
Okay, uh is resigns. Aristidais a Keno oh man number one hope,
(02:04:08):
So yeah, I'll I'll take I'lltake fourteen home runs in July.
What Aristete is a Keno start onthe current outfield roster if Resigns wasn't here,
No, Aristeta is a Keno stinksNo, I mean if if air
was coming up today, he woulddefinitely Oh yeah, yes, So just
enjoy the resins run. I don'tthink he's Aristide's a kinok And I think
(02:04:29):
there's one reason why. All right, I'll talk about what that reason is.
You guys were talking about Mike Gundy. Oh man, I'm going to
help out Mike Gundy. Oh I'mgoing to help out people who want Trevor
Bauer. I'm maybe I'm gonna helpout Mike Gundy. I'm gonna help people
out who want to see Trevor Bauerback in the big leagues. I'm going
to help out ardent supporters of thesetwo old golf loving presidential candidates. We
(02:04:53):
have out all the masters. JustinWilliams is going to join us in talk
some UC football in Big twelve football, and uh, you know, we
teased this yesterday and we really didn'tget to it. Apparently there's NFL players
who are mad at Joe Burrow.I'm gonna help them too. Yeah.
And Hunter Green's an All Star.Yes, I told you, not only
(02:05:15):
that, Not only that Hunter Greenbeing an All Star and made me think
of three guys. Okay, I'lltell you who they are. Three twenty.
Very cool from FC Cincinnati yesterday rollingout the red carpet for Hunter Green's
brother who was in town. Alsovery cool. That kind of gets lost
in the rees Hines excitement last night. Tyler Stevenson really good night at the
plate will Benson, and you couldsee it when he hit the ball,
(02:05:39):
which is a marvel in itself, right, now. But I think the
relief on his face because that's aball that he has missed so much.
Maybe maybe will Benson figure something out. Spencer Steer quietly putting together a really
good first half of the season.Yes, and I will give Nicklodolo a
pass because he was phenomenal before therain. He was awful after the wind.
(02:06:00):
Yeah, I didn't feel like heshould have been brought back out.
Yeah, is a little bit different. Yeah, I just it seemed to
me the blister. It seemed tome when he came back out there.
I know they had built up alead for him, but it just that
didn't seem No. I didn't feelgood about that. And it's easy to
say because he then gave up fourruns, but I didn't feel good about
(02:06:23):
that in real time. I respectReese Hines. He comes up in the
eighth inning last night, Uh huh, and here he had. He stands
with a double, a triple, and a home run, and none of
his swings showed that he cared abouthitting for the cycle. He wanted to
hit a ball five hundred. Basedon what we have come to know down
(02:06:44):
I think he was going to shortenhis sting and helmet's fallen off every other
swing. Hit it the other wayand try to get a cheap single.
No, he was going to tryto hit it four hundred and sixty eight
feet, and I respect that.Going for the cycle for him meant well,
I hit one four hundred and fortyeight feet. Now, let's try
to hit one five in forty eight. He wants nothing to do with it,
and I appreciate that big time.I think that's all we have hard
(02:07:06):
knocks. Yes, are you watchingthe off season hard knocks? I love
this. We were talking about thisa little bit last Yeah, the traditional
camp hard knocks, the football stuffis cool, right, but let's face
it, training camp now is notwhat it was when Hard Knocks started.
And the preseason games are cool, but let's face it, we kind of
know what has happened in those gamesand how they've impacted the decisions the teams
(02:07:30):
have made. I've always enjoyed thestuff you're seeing more of because it's the
off season. I enjoy watching thecoaches in the meeting rooms. I enjoy
watching the parts where you can wherethey're installing offense and teaching stuff. I
like that, and major like somuch of the normal Hard Knocks is about
guys that are trying to make theteam. Or it's not as like you're
(02:07:54):
seeing open conversations about the star SakwonBarklay. You're seeing what they think exactly
of every one of those high draftpicks that came into that room. And
if I'm watching last night, Iwould have if I didn't know who they
took, I would have thought theywere going to take Roma Doonza or Drake
May because they were wild. They'retrying to get Marvin Harrison to yeh do
(02:08:16):
it. He's the only one whodidn't throw Colm McCord under the bus.
For McCord's at Syracuse last night. He's probably in his dorm, like I
had a pretty good day today andflips on Hard Knocks and it's like,
oh man, that's a tough day. I've been to Syracuse. Uh.
The end of the day in Syracuseinvolves no one saying I had a good
day today. Why because you werein Syracuse? Well done, MO.
Coach Prime, also known as DionSanders, is speaking at Big Media's Media
(02:08:41):
Days today. When I say coachPrime, what comes to mind? Four
and eight? Now, he didsay the Cincinnati game with Setai. He
said, God blessed Cincinnati today.Sure, yeah, but he's viewed under
a different scale. He said thattoday he's viewed in a different scale.
His wins and losses are different thanwhat your wins and losses would be.
There might be some truth to that. Look, I love how he is
(02:09:03):
shaking things up. I love howhe has deflected attention away from typical superpowers
to a program that nobody has caredabout in thirty years. I have no
issue with how he has managed hisroster. But at the end of the
day, you are judged by whetheryou win or lose games. And I
gave Scott Sanderfield to pass for yearone, I amp up the pressure for
year two. I think it's fairto do the same thing with Deon Sanders.
(02:09:26):
Now. Look, he walked intoa situation where the year before they
had won one game. But youknow, at some point the the win
loss record has to match all ofthe other stuff. Sure that obviously did
not happen in your one. Howhow bad are the Rockies? That is
one of the worst baseball teams I'veever watched, like coached. The way
the Daily Cruise double fell last night, it looked like no one cared.
(02:09:52):
It looks like the manager doesn't carewhen he's coming in and out of the
bull, out of the the thedugout. It's just a hard team to
watch. Here's the thing. Likea lot of people have said that,
I saw a lot of this onsocial media last night. It's like,
man, can't imagine rooting for ateam like that. Where were you two
years ago? Because I did, they lost one hundred games, Been there,
done that? Like wait, wait, hang on a second. We're
(02:10:13):
in this elite baseball town. Wherehave you been around the last twenty five
years. We've had a lot ofseasons and a lot of teams that kind
of looked like that, including onethat just played two years ago that had
some of the same guys who wereon this year's team. Looking back,
I don't know how we got throughthat. It's a good point beer and
Hi degenerates. It's time for lotsof the night by since he's shirts.
(02:10:37):
How many beer cups did it takeebeer couch and always on line at since
the shirts dot com. Now let'smake you some money. We had five
hundred and nine beer cups. Theyare not a home dog tonight. It's
even money but the Diamondbacks have lostthe first two of the series at home
against the Braves. I do thinkthey get the win tonight. Give me
the Arizona Diamondbacks at home under nineand a half Dodgers Phillies. Okay,
(02:11:01):
do you have a lean with theReds win? All right? Freeland's been
better at your gun's coming off theinjured list, but he's not been great
against a lot of the Red hitters. You're gonna go down there and root
for him. I'm gonna go say, hello, you notice you noticed today
that all of a sudden, allthe Reds gear that Tony normally wears is
going on. Yeah, we talkbecats today, Hegan Nickason, Ken Tracy
(02:11:22):
was a Bearcat deck bear Cat stuffon. Yeah, all right, We're
done. Uh is next on theend fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks
