Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is Skyline Chile. Sincey three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in part by Skyline Chile. Stop by Skyline Chili
for a three way or cheeze Coney today. Feeling good,
It's Skyline time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Good afternoon, Happy Friday, and welcome into the latest edition
of Cincy three sixty. Coming your way, meredis merediths you

(00:54):
here we go. Welcome in and happy Friday. Thanks for listening,
Thanks for spending part of your Friday here with us
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station or via the
iHeartRadio app. Got a lot to get to today and

(01:18):
not a lot of time to do only still have
three hours to do it. But it feels like there's
a lot more that we have to cover than what
a normal Friday usually is right here on Sincy three sixty. Again,
thank you to our friends at Skyline Chili. There are
so many different areas we need to cover as it
relates to the Cincinnati Bengals because of what yesterday's practice was.

(01:43):
If you don't know what I mean by that, or
you haven't been following along, you know practice yesterday in
Chicago joint practice. It was closed to the media. Media
can be there, but they're not allowed to tweet or
video or talk about anything they see until camp is over.
So one, Austin, how ridiculous is that that Chicago does that?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Or do you think it's okay to practice in the rain? No?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
No, to practice and say that if you're a remember
the media, you can't say anything about practice till it's over.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah, I thought that was pretty crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Because what's crazy about it is after practice, you know,
you're waiting and watching what's going to happen, what happened
to practice? And then you read like I read Jay
Morrison's tweet first yesterday and the tweet read as follows.
Notes from practice. Two Bengals carted off in air cast,
Chris Evans and Deontay Smith. T Higgins had four drops,

(02:38):
tons of other drops. Joe Burrow picked off three times.
Charlie Jones participated in Indian drills. Cody Ford replaced Trent
Brown at right tackle midway through. We later found out
that Trent Brown stopped practicing because of back tightness. I mean,
that's a lot to take in, Austin in a tweet. Yeah,
all that happened in one practice unbelievable. So then the

(03:00):
fallout from that is quite frankly maddening. We'll dive into
what that means from an offensive line standpoint. You'll hear
a little bit from Joe Burrow after practice wasn't a
great day for the offense again, and it wasn't a
great day by all accounts for the Bengals defense as well.
Jeremy Row highlighted in the video that he posted that

(03:22):
Caleb Williams certainly looked the part yesterday talked about the
weapons that Chicago has. Well, if those weapons were all
hitting on all cylinders, that means that the Bengals defense
was struggling in a lot of those cylinders as well.
So we've got a lot to get to with the
Cincinnati Bengals today. We'll also catch up with Charlie Goldsmith.
Speaking of Charlie and what he does, he also covers
the Reds for Cincinnati dot Com. Austin, you wrote an

(03:45):
article about this about the star power Bobby Witt Junior
and ellieday La Cruz here this weekend. Yes, I don't know. Well,
first allow people to understand how they can find that article.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
It's just go to Cincinnati Reds Talk dot Com. You'll
also find it on Twitter at Audie Elmore. The showdown
coming up between Ellie Daia Cruz and Bobby Witt Junior,
meeting for the second time in their young career.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I mentioned this in a pre show video today. If
you're not privy with what Bobby Witt Junior is doing,
we talked about him the other day. He leads the
team in batting average, leads the team in home runs,
leads the team in RBIs, leads the team in on
base percentage, leads the team in hits. He is pumping
right now at three forty nine. Play shortstop, same as

(04:34):
Ellie da La Cruz. To put it into perspective, Austin
Aaron Judge is second in Major League Baseball from a
batting average standpoint, sixteen points below Bobby wit Junior. Aaron
Judge is hitting three thirty three Bobby Witt Junior three
forty nine. So you want star power, you get it

(04:54):
at GABP this weekend with two of the best to
play the game. They happen to both play this position
and for the Reds again. I saw the Mets lose yesterday.
Mets are one of those teams that the Reds are
looking up at in the wild Card standing so as
the Reds were off, Mets lost. Reds are one game
under five hundred, which I know we've discussed, and I

(05:16):
know we've talked about, and I know it's more than
getting to five hundred.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
I believe the Braves also lost, as the.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Braves lost yesterday as well, so as the day starts,
that number is four for the Reds in the Wildcard.
There are two back of the Mets, four back of
the Braves. There's still a half game back who of
the San Francisco Giants who did win last night, but
sitting there watching yesterday the Mets blow a lead and
lose to the Oakland Athletics. There is a glimmer, a

(05:46):
glimmer of light shining through a door right now for
the Reds that is just quite not shut yet. You know,
my daughter now, Austin, she's at a point where when
I put her to bed at night, she wants the
door open. She wants to see like the night light
coming in, and the door is like you could see
a sliver of light, And I can't help but think
that's what the Reds are seeing right now a little

(06:08):
bit of light. If they can put together, let go
win two out of three against the Royals, win two
out of three and see what happens after that. But
you can't come and you can't get swept, you can't
win one out of three and hope that things just
fall into place. Because you go to Toronto, you go
to Pittsburgh, Oakland comes in after this. You have some

(06:28):
opportunities coming up if you're the Cincinnati Reds. We'll talk
about some of those opportunities today. But as we spend
the last of segment one here kind of replaying everything
that happened in yesterday's Sports World, will do so thanks
to our friends at KLOUS Roofing System of Cincinnati. It
is the trusted local roofing and gutter company. You can
simply visit krssincy dot com. That's KRS sincey with a

(06:49):
y dot com yesterday last night, I should say we
did see some NFL action and I thought, Austin, I'm
watching the game in the lens of Week one opponent
for the Cincinnati Bengals. I thought the Patriots didn't look

(07:11):
terrible early in the game. I thought Drake may looked
pretty good. A lot of growing pain still to go,
and Jared Mayo said that to the game that this
quarterback race is far from over. But Drake May let
a nice touchdown drive end up with a touchdown run. Philadelphia,
for what it's worth, won the game fourteen thirteen. I
don't watch in the lens of looking at the Patriots

(07:33):
and wondering, okay, man, that team's got a ton of weapons.
But there is an unknown with Drake may that I
think would be interesting to watch going into to Week one,
where the Bengals will take on the New England Patriots.
There was rumblings earlier in the week that Hart Jim
Harbaugh was talking about Colin Kaepernick joining the staff this year.
That is not going to happen, as Harball announced yesterday,

(07:54):
So no Colin Kaepernick back. Speaking of being back though
post Olympics, the US women's national team Austin is back
at number one. They are now the number one team
in the nation in the after their Olympic gold, back
on top of the world rankings, the world rankings, the
world rankings, and they're probably number one in the States

(08:16):
as well. Barely barely, but they are back on top.
And uh, speaking of making a splash. We talked a
little bit about this yesterday, and you hinted at this
because you knew it was kind of in the works, Austin.
How about the Atlanta Falcons. They add Matthew Judon. We
announced that yesterday and then they went and signed free
agent safety Justin Simmons, a two time Pro Bowl safety

(08:39):
Justin Simmons to a one year, eight million dollar contract,
which means he gets to join Jesse Bates to immediately
form one of the best safety combinations in the NFL.
What do you make of what the Falcons are doing
right now? Because I think the Falcons have gone from
you know, a story of a team to kind of watch.

(08:59):
But I don't know if this makes them contenders in
the NFC, but I certainly think it makes them the
favorite in the NFC South.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
At this point. Yeah, I think they look at the
division and say that they have a chance to win it,
and obviously spending a lot of money on Kirk Cousins,
but not a overbearing amount of money on Kirk Cousins.
You still have Michael Pennix Junior waiting in the wings
behind him, and you have a ton of talent Kyle
Pitts b John Robinson. They look at it and they say, Okay,
we have a chance to win this division right now,

(09:29):
and we're not gonna, you know, try to wait around.
And you know, Kyle Pitts has got a contract coming up,
and Bjean will have a contract coming up and so on.
They're trying to go for it right now while they
feel like the NFC South is up for grabs, and
so I think that's a really smart move. I think
it'll end up being Tampa in Atlanta kind of going
battling it out for that division title, and with the

(09:49):
guy in Raheem Morris, who's a defensive minded coach who
keep putting weapons on defense.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yes, I think it's gonna be interesting to watch, and
kudos to them for making the moves and now you
see if they pay off. We have an NBA season kickoff.
It's nick Celtics are going to start the season on
October twenty second. I don't know why we're talking about it.
Moiger will probably cover that in detail a lot more

(10:15):
today most from the Holy Grail this afternoon from noon
to three. He'll still join us for quick hits and
locks of the night. The Buck guys named the starter Austin.
Will Howard, Yeah, quarterback the Kansas State transfer. I haven't
heard a ton about Will Howard. I know they have
a ton of weapons around Will Howard, But is this
a little bit of a dip from the dominance they've
had at quarterback in years past.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Yeah, I think it will be. He's a much different
style of quarterback. He's much more of the Josh Allen type.
He can beat you with his feet, He's a lot
more mobile. I think he'll see chip Kelly try to
get him out of the pocket a little bit. A
lot of the reports from Columbus right now are that
the defense has been dominant in training camp, and that's
as expected. I think Chip Kelly said that for the
first eight practices the defense dominated the offense. But the offense,

(11:02):
I think last week had their first really good practice
where they were able to move the ball. So yeah,
I think Will Howard going up against that defense, which
many expect to be one of the best in the country,
is going to be helpful to him. But yeah, it
is a much different style of quarterback and it'll look
a lot different. I'm sure with chip Kelly gone, the
plays as well.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
ESPN Dot com did a position group ranking list. They
listed the top sixteen teams in each position group across
the National Football League, and I was a little surprised
at some of these. Let me go through just a
base a couple of these. Quarterback from a position group
standpoint has the Bengals ranked fourth in the From a

(11:44):
position group standpoint, Baltimore, Buffalo, and Kansas City all ahead
of the Bengals, which I don't agree with. Running back Austin,
they have the Bengals as the thirtieth ranked running back
room in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
But here's what they do.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
They give the best, which is San Francisco, they give
the shakiest, the worst, which is Dallas, and then they
give a unit to watch, and it says this the
Bengals are that unit. The Joe Mixon era is over.
Bengals secession plan was to sign Zach Moss as his replacement,
who flashed as a rusher with the Bills and Colts
but has never handled a full workload. Has yet to

(12:21):
handle a big load in the passing attack, averaging nine
point nine receiving yards per game. Chase Brown also flashed
he could be the lead back. Do you think that's
a fair comparison. Is thirtieth far too low for this
running back room or is there just still such an
unknown We talked about you and I both in the
lens of that first preseason game. Thought Chase Brown missed

(12:43):
a couple of cuts or holes. We haven't seen Zack
Moss yet. Is thirtieth fair for the Bengals running back room?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah? Probably. They basically have one guy who is an
established running back and he's been a backup for most
of his career. I don't know the depth of or
the look of every single running back room in the NFL,
but yeah, Chase Brown played in like six games last
year where he was actually featured, and Zach Moss has
been a backup for most of his life and ran

(13:11):
really well behind a good Indie offensive line in the
absence of Jonathan Taylor. Beyond that, there's nobody, especially now
with Chris Evans being out. Travion Williams has contributed nothing
over the course of his NFL career other than he's
a really nice guy. So I think that's a fair ranking.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Where would you guess that their wide receiver group ranks,
assuming Jamar Chase is healthy and in there top three
four yeah, Houston one, San Francisco two, and Seattle number
three on that list. Obviously, Lockett Metcalf, Jackson, Smith and Jigba.
They're three headed monster. I think that's more of a diamond.

(13:48):
Just the unknown at wide receiver three. But how dominant
the top two are for the Cincinnati Bengals. Tight end
room twenty ninth, I think that's fair. Offensive line here's
where things are gonna get interesting. Currently ranked eleventh. Based
on what has happened the last twenty four hours and
let's say the last week or so, I think it's

(14:09):
going to be very interesting to watch. We're gonna have
more of an in depth offensive line conversation today based
on what the Bengals have done in recent years that
hasn't really allowed them to build through the draft. They
just haven't hit on a ton of draft picks. We'll
talk about how the offensive line has been constructed and
why that has become a problem. Interior defensive line for
the Bengals ranked eighteenth. Edge rusher, they are ranked number

(14:31):
ten off ball linebacker has them at number ten, corner
twenty three, just a huge unknown safety fourteen.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
And overall an overall.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Roster standpoint going into this year, still has the Bengals
at fourth going forward. So even with all that, that
shows you the star power of Joe Burrow, T Higgins,
Jamar Chase and some of those in individual positions on
the defensive side of the ball. Still a lot of
work to do, still a lot to recap from what

(15:07):
happened in Chicago yesterday. That's where we're going to start
when we come back. You have one thing that you missed.
Tony Connor Stallions is returning to the sideline. Oh no,
Connor Stallions is the new defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford
High School.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Oh. That is what Detroit Mumford head coach William McMichael
told the Detroit News on Thursday. Quote, I got the
most hated man in college football right now, Connor Stallions.
He's my defensive coordinator. Oh wow. If you're wondering about
Detroit Mumford High School, they were one in eight for
the last two years.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Okay, it sounds like Michigan before Connor Stallions came in.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Yeah, relatively similar. They were three and six and twenty one,
three and four, and twenty twenty. You haven't had a
winning season since twenty nineteen, as Detroit Mumford. It says
here on October eighteenth that they have an open date
on their schedule. So I'm going to see if maybe
Sydney is available to head up and see if they

(16:11):
could maybe go put it on Connor Stallion's bunch.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Could you imagine Sydney and Connor Stallions on the other side.
Immediately you'd be game day captain. Oh yeah, you and
Stallions out there chumming it up before the game. Yeah,
he don't want to see me coming man. All right,
we're going deep first play. Let's try a shot. He'll

(16:36):
never see it. No, he'll never under what happened.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
He probably knows everything.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Yep, he'll have your signals down. Been at practice, all right.
There were multiple people at practice yesterday. We weren't there
in Chicago, but others were. They reported on what they saw.
We will piggyback off what they saw and put it
to our own thoughts as it relates to the Cincinnati
Bengals in Chicago joint practices yesterday. Every thing that happened,

(17:01):
everything that means for tomorrow. We'll have some Joe Burrow
audio and as we get going a little bit later
in today's show, your phone calls five one, three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty. This is since he three sixty
a service of Skyline Chili on the Home of the Bengals,
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station Loweger.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
There was some booing of the team last night.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
When it comes to sports, those things he's got something
to say for, just natural byproducts of and plenty of
it of poor play Loeggar today at three on ESPN
fifteen thirty.

Speaker 6 (17:31):
Another insurance story from this.

Speaker 7 (17:34):
Is ESPN fifteen thirty and iHeartRadio station.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Lucas Giulito.

Speaker 8 (17:41):
Yeah, that's a scary moment in time for him, says
this one deep to the gap and left center.

Speaker 9 (17:47):
Jim Kowski will turn and that is in plane off
the base of the wall.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
Took a big Hodd bounce back.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
In his center.

Speaker 9 (17:53):
Farmer's gonna run, missed out at his center. Farmer's got
the green light. He's gonna try and score the front
of the plane where I'm not paying time. Kyle Farmer
inside the park home run and the twins going back
to pack and US two to two.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Come on, Come on, now, you're telling me we got
a Kyle Farmer inside the park home run.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
It was eventually ruled a triple in an error. But
I think that's an inside the park home run.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
I mean, Kyle Farmer just continues to do big things
the former Cincinnati read and while he may be gone
from Cincinnati for at least one day, he will hold
the title as the power player of Yesterday's game.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Kyle Farmer was having a terrible season up until the
last month. He's turned some things around, especially over the
last week, hitting three point thirty three with a three
eighty five on base percentage, slugging seven fifty over the
last week. Kyle Farmer on the season hitting just two
hundred but a home run in eighteen RBIs twenty nine

(18:57):
hits for the Minnesota Twins.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Somebody left a Farmer No, that's the second place Minnesota
Twins at sixty eight and fifty three. Someone let Kyle
Farmer know he is our Cincinnati tax Resolution power Player
of Yesterday's Game.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Brought to you by Tofe Sheldon. Yeah, don't live in fear,
No tof is here, Nah, don't live in You were
to guess how many career home runs would you guess?
Kyle Farmer has ninety nine, No, fifty one? Okay, so
he just he just surpassed a fifty nine. Were really
giving him the power player of the game there.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
I thought he was. I thought he was like coming
up on one hundred in his career. No a story career.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
Well, I mean he is technically closer to one hundred
than he is zero, So I won a bad guess.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Other news, real quick, red shirt sophomore Bearcat quarterback Brendan
Sorosby has been named to the Johnny Uniteds Golden arm
Award preseason watch list as just announced. I got that
from the University of Cincinnati to watch list. That'd be
a pretty cool award to win. Yes, named after Johnny

(19:57):
Unitas and called Golden arm Man.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
It's kind of cool.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Wouldn't it be nice to have a Golden arm That
would be cool. Here's the thing, and we have to
do this. We've got to dive in to what happened
yesterday with the Cincinnati Bengals, and quite frankly, it's a lot.
It's a lot from the fact that one it just

(20:24):
it just had a weird feel in the fact that
you know, you you see all these pictures of folks
getting ready to cover practice and then they're not allowed
to tweet anything, So you're kind of just waiting anxiously
to hear about, man, what happened at practice. And I
think Austin a lot of that was magnified because we
talked yesterday that the offense had had a couple bad

(20:45):
days in a row, and you're like, man, I can't
wait to hear what Burrow is doing to those guys now,
because you knew he was just kind of stewing on it.
You knew he wanted to go out there and dominate.
And then again practice ends. Go back to the Jay
Morrison tweet. Two players carted off the field, both of

(21:06):
those players requiring air cast as they were carted off,
Chris Evans and Deontay Smith. And right away it's like, oh,
Deontay Smith, that's kind of like the glue guy can
play multiple positions, one of the options at tackle if
the Bengals were to need it, And then t Higgins
had multiple jobs. Joe Burrow was picked off three times.
Cody Ford replaced Trent Brown midway through practice. It's later

(21:32):
announced that Trent Brown stopped practicing because he had tightness
in his back.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
So let's start there.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Often tightness in Trent Brown's back Trent Brown over a
week ago was talking about how he's not concerned about
the preseason because he's got another month to get his
body in shape to go and play well. He was
thrust into more of a role because of the Mems injury,
and after just a couple of days practicing he leaves
with back tightness. Marius Mims is still not with this team.

(22:01):
Deontay Smith was carted off the field yesterday. Jackson Carmen
was awful in preseason game number one. How significant is
the problem that the Bengals have right now on the
offensive line.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Yeah, I think it's a pretty big deal. Obviously, this
organization in this team goes nowhere without Joe Burrow, and
he missed a good chunk last year. Part of that
because it was the offensive line's fault, and part of
it not he's been injured in a big way in
the past. They have to protect him. He has to
be on the field a lot if this team wants

(22:37):
to achieve the goals that they have in store. When
he plays against the Patriots on September eighth, it will
be his fifth season in the NFL. It will be
his fifth different right tackle starting in that position. On
opening day, and in the AFC North, where you face
the Ravens and the Browns and the Steelers, who are

(23:00):
all invest heavily and have very good defensive ends, very
good pass rushers, it is critically important to have that
position figured out.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Yeah, I couldn't agree anymore with that sentiment. Paul Danner
Junior yesterday kind of gave an update on where the
offensive line was coming out of yesterday's practice. Orlando Brown
all good, Amarus Mims out several weeks with a strain pack,
Trent Brown lower back tightness, D'ante Smith left in an

(23:32):
air cast. Cody Ford took over for Trent Brown, who
was supposed to be an offensive tackle and a pinch
for this team. Jackson Carmen had four penalties in the
preseason opener. Devin Cochrane and Jackson Kirkland undrafted with zero
career starts between them.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
How long do you let this go? Austin?

Speaker 2 (23:49):
And again, we don't know the severity of how tight
Trent Brown's back is. We don't know how many weeks
a Marius Mems will miss. What is the sense of
urgency on whether this team has to start looking elsewhere
to bring in a tackle.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
No, I think it starts. It started last night. It
better have started last night. It probably should have been
started after the game with Jackson Carmen last weekend. I mean,
thankfully they didn't cut him because somebody has to play Saturday,
and you have to be looking at that. We have
to be looking at the running back position. I know
James when he was on the show with Us yesterday,

(24:28):
talked about Jerck McKinnon as a potential target, especially with
Chris Evans out. I think they look at that position.
I don't know how you don't. It's we don't know
the severity of Deontay Smith yet. Maybe we'll get an
update on that today. I don't know, but yeah, it
has to be something you do. I mean, literally two

(24:49):
days ago, Zach Taylor said Cody Ford is only going
to play tackle in emergency situations. Yesterday he was playing tackle,
so clearly it's an emergency situation. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Listen to some of this. This was a deeper dive
on the offensive line, and this was from Jason Garrison
posted this. He goes back to twenty thirteen and he
looks at the lineman drafted by the Bengals. Listen to
some of these names. Twenty thirteen, Tanner Hawkinson, Reid Fragel
t J. Johnson combined for just five starts in their
NFL career.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Reed Fragel was a beast.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Twenty fourteen, they drafted Russell Bodine. Not a terrible pick.
Now he's one of the worst players in Bengals. Russell
Bodine was terrible? Well, how about this. Twenty fifteen they
drafted sedgik Obwahee and Jake Fisher. Yeah, those guys stunk too, okay.
Twenty sixteen they drafted Christian Westerman. Yeah, not great me.
That guy was a psychopass. Started two game played, yeah

(25:43):
a little bit, never played for another team.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Twenty seventeen JJ Dielman, who Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Career practice squad player. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Twenty eighteen they drafted Billy Price and Rod taylor Man.
Twenty nineteen, Joonah Williams and Michael Jordan. Twenty they drafted
a Chema Denegy. Twenty twenty one, they drafted and went
up and got Jackson, Carmen, Deontay Smith, and Trey Hill.
In twenty twenty two, they drafted Cordell Vohlsen. No linemen
were drafted in twenty twenty three and then this past

(26:13):
draft Matt Lee and MRIs Mems and there's a lot
of hope right here Austin for Mems, and really Matt
Lee is getting some love as well. But the conclusion
to all of this in this article pointing out the
Bengals have been far far better at signing free agents
than they have been at drafting players. That model is

(26:35):
not sustainable. Yeah, you eventually have to draft and develop
players on the offensive line. Four of the five starters
right now on the offensive line free agents that were signed.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
If you go back to Jonah Williams too, his rookie year,
he didn't play right, he got hurt, didn't play his
rookie year. In order, the top two linemen on that
list where Jonah Williams who was okay yep, and Cordel
Volson who has played two years. Right, Like, that's crazy,
it is unbelievable. It's one. It's not sustainable. And you

(27:07):
look this year.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
If Mems isn't starting, Trent Brown, Kappa, Carris, Orlando Brown,
all guys that they signed, and you mentioned Cordell Volson,
the jury is still a little bit out. So you
give Joe Burrow a lot of money. You're gonna give
Jamar Chase a lot of money. Eventually, you can't afford
bringing in established free agents like they've done, so they
have to find a way to draft, and not only draft,

(27:32):
evaluate offensive line far better than what they had and
what they've done. Something needs to change because it's been
the same thing year in and year out. And you
hope they got it right with Mems this year, and
a lot of people, including me, think so. But going
back and looking at those names, the more players you
start paying, the less you can just sign guys off

(27:53):
the street from a free agent standpoint. At some point,
and now they are, they're behind because they haven't done
it because there's no one on the depth chart that
that we can turn to right now. If you're the
Cincinnati Bengals, at some point you have to do better
at drafting and developing linemen flat out. That is incredible
to go back and look at how many misses they've
had on the offensive line. You can't just keep sustainably

(28:18):
signing free agents and plugging them in and filling the gaps. Eventually,
you got to draft and develop these guys. Let's take
a break, Let's come back, Let's let's continue on with
yesterday's practice. Let's talk about Joe Burrow, and in doing so,
we got to talk about Jamar Chase as well. We'll
get to some phone calls five one, three, seven, nine,
fifteen thirty, plenty still to go Sincy three to sixty

(28:39):
on the Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
Hey, Alexa, what's the latest on the.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
NBA getting ESPN is fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Hey, it's my lagger.

Speaker 8 (28:54):
Stream falling off the door to hanging off the hinges
my set.

Speaker 7 (28:58):
It's still some back, son of fringes.

Speaker 10 (29:01):
We tore up the walls, we slept on couches, We
lifted this house.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
We lifted this house. Five stock talk Shock, welcome back
since he three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
A service at Skyline Chili. We'll open up the phone
lines here in about ten minutes. We'll get to some
phone calls. Mark our talkback matters guy, All both on
hold right now. We'll get to those phone calls after
the next break. Before we get to that, Austin, we
got to spend some time on QB number one here
in Cincinnati and Joe Burrow's day yesterday. I tried to

(29:39):
read and follow along with many of the reports, and
I know it was raining, and I know Joe Burrow
talked about the rain a little bit yesterday, Austin. We'll
get to that in just a few minutes. It was
also raining for Kayleb Williams, who, by all accounts had
no problem picking apart the secondary of the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday.
Jeremy Ralph Fox nineteen on History Twitter kind of encapsulated

(30:01):
that part of the day yesterday in a video that
he posted. But the Joe Burrow side of things is
what I want to talk about. Joe Burrow, Austin. It
was said, did not really push the ball outside the
numbers yesterday. Joe Burrow didn't take any chances down the
field yesterday, and Joe Burrow was intercepted three times yesterday.
That to me puts a cap on a bad week

(30:22):
for Joe Burrow. Yes, you're gonna have bad weeks, You're
gonna have bad practices. I agree to all of that,
But it was Jeremy Rouse's comment in the video that
caught me, Austin of It was the first time that
it truly felt like this team is desperately missing Jamar Chase,
and I don't know what comes of that, but I
would hope that a conversation has had or maybe he has

(30:43):
already been had, where Joe Burrow walks in and says,
I know it's not what you like to do, and
maybe it doesn't work to the plan that the organization
has for the future, but but I need number one
out there. I need Jamar Chase. Could you see something
like that happening or does it need to happen, Austin.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
I don't think I would see it happening. Really yeah,
I don't think it's.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
Even a frustration would get to a level of like,
all right, we need him, we need to make this happen.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
I don't know if it's something Joe would do.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Because you mentioned to me on the elevator earlier today
that Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated was doing a mail
bag where he was answering questions and he was asked
about the Chase extension getting done before the season. Albert
Breer's quote was this that said, my sense is Chase's
side hasn't been in some massive rush to get a
deal done. I think there are two reasons for that

(31:32):
which play into one another. First, Justin Jefferson's deal done
at thirty five million per year is so far above
where the market had been previously that it's complicated the
other remaining high end receiver negotiation. Second, waiting for Ceedee
Lamb and Brandon Ayute could bring more clarity.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
He highlights it.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
That just hasn't felt like there's been a lot of
urgency on the Jamar Chase camp. That to me, Austin,
I can see that that makes sense of what Albert
Breer is saying. And if that makes sense, then that
brings into question and concern of Jamar Chase getting back
before the start of the regular season, and that could
become a whole different talking point that we're having going forward.

(32:12):
But I may maybe it's not Joe Burrow. Maybe it's
Zach Taylor going in and saying, Hey, we're trying to
win a Super Bowl, trying to run an offense here.
This offense isn't gonna run like it should if Jamar
Chase is not here. Do you see Zach Taylor doing that?

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Yeah? I feel like I don't know the inner workings
of the organization all that well and how issues like
this get talked about with the family. But I could
see it more along the lines of Joe and Zach
sitting down and Joe being like literally doing listen, this, this, this,
and this, and Zach being like, I'll do what I
can and go and talk to Mike. I mean, I

(32:48):
know that you know, Zach and Mike and those guys
talk every single day, and obviously Duke Tobin involved in
that as well. But yeah, I don't know that Joe
would do that. I do think when he says that
he lets business be businesses, I think he's genuine when
he says that. I don't know that he really is
talking to Jamar much about their contract, about the contract,

(33:10):
but I would imagine there is, if anything else, an
understanding with Jamar of like, listen, man, we can't do
this without you, we can't do this without you.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
I just imagine like getting in the locker room after
a practice like yesterday and being mad and frustrated and
not having your best day and just looking and seeing
Jamar like, man, I wish I had him out there,
wish he was out there. And again, there's offensive line
problems to worry about. There's defensive problems to worry about,
and we'll get to all of those. But right now,
Joe Burrow's not hit a good week, and that's by

(33:40):
all reports.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
If nothing else, just his presence on the field creates
issues for the defense. Forget his production, just him being
on the field changes the way you're defended, and that
can open up a lot of things. The offense was
built with Jamar Chase in mind as being the focal point,

(34:01):
and so when you're trying to figure out an offense
without him, it starts to be that way. And look,
no matter how you spin it, and I know a
lot of people don't like it when we talk about this,
it's been three bad practices in a row for Joe Burrow.
And that's not just us, that is not everyone that
reports on this guy. That is not an indictment of
him as a player or as a person. It's not

(34:22):
an indictment on the team. It's a fact of the
matter that for three practices in a row, he has
not been great and the offense has not been good. Yes,
he threw three interceptions yesterday, and he should have thrown
two more if you read the other reports. So anytime
you're talking about Joe Burrow, who is the highest paid
quarterback in the NFL and is the face of this franchise.

(34:43):
Throwing five interceptions in a practice, it doesn't matter what
your preconceived notions are. That gets your attention. And I'm
not saying this is because of his wrist. I'm not
saying it's because of the offensive line. I'm not saying
it's any particular reason other than clearly there is something
going on in which they have not been able to
get on the same page. For the last three days.

(35:05):
They looked wonderful against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were
going up against twos and threes, so in the Chicago
Bears against ones. The Chicago Bears have invested a lot
of money in their defense, and they have an all
Pro corner in Jalen Johnson. They've got a really good
safety in Jonathan Owens. They've got a good linebacker in
Tremaine Edwins. Like, there are good players on that defense.

(35:26):
And I'm not saying just because you line up it's
supposed to be easy. Yes, Joe threw a touchdown to Mikeasiki. Yesterday,
Joe threw a touchdown to Trenton Irwin. Yes, those are
good things that should be noted. But also overall, don't
know that it was a very good day.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Yeah, and it's like it was raining. It was made
apparent that it was raining. Joe talked about it raining.
It was also raining for Caleb Williams, who by all
accounts had a very good day against the Bengals defense.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Correct. So look, here are the facts.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Going into Monday, Austin of this week, Joe Burrow had
thrown one training camp interception. One, he threw two on Monday,
through another one on Tuesday, and then through three yesterday.
He has shown six interceptions this week, and he had
thrown one leading into this week. Something's different, something happened.

(36:14):
So what that is, I don't know. I just think
a heck of a lot of things are are made
easier if Jamar Chase is out there. All right, let's
do this, let's break, let's come back. We'll get to
your phone calls to end this hour. We'll get to
Charlie Goldsmith to kick off the second hour. It's since

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Welcome back since he three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station in service of Skyline Shelly. We got to
get some phone calls. Let's finish off this hour. Let's
start Austin. This is a place I swore i'd never
take a call from because they ended about three of
my different sports seasons when I was at reading. But

(38:34):
let's go to Versales and talk to Cody. Cody, how
are you.

Speaker 8 (38:40):
All right?

Speaker 13 (38:40):
How are you? Guys? Appreciate you taking my call.

Speaker 14 (38:42):
Absolutely, you know my frustration.

Speaker 13 (38:47):
I'm a Bengals fan.

Speaker 15 (38:48):
First, the Jamar Chase situation is infuriating to me. The
man signed a five year contract and I think he
should honor his contract.

Speaker 13 (38:58):
I know that's crazy everything. Oh, he deserves this, he
deserves that.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Well.

Speaker 13 (39:01):
To me, he deserves the Honors contract. Sure, maybe that's
an unpopular opinion.

Speaker 15 (39:05):
As far as Joe Burrow wanting him to be out there,
nothing stopping Joe from going in and renegotiating his contract
to open up some money. And I know it's like, well, no,
he's the best and he deserves all this money. There's
a salary cap, so there's only so much money to
go around, and this is going to be a problem
moving forward because of that contract of Burrows is so huge.

Speaker 14 (39:28):
I don't know, what do you think, Well.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
I look at quarterbacks across the NFL, and there are
certain ways to.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
Slice this. I mean, you go through.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Yes, Joe Burrow is making a lot of money, and
I understand that, and I understand that with that, you know,
people say, well, well how is this? You know, Joe
Burrow's got Joe Burrow. It's not his job to take
less money. It's Joe Burrow is getting paid what people
believe he is doing now. He makes fifty five a year.
You Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence also make fifty five
million per year. Two is making fifty three. Justin Herbert's

(40:04):
making fifty two. It's fair Joe Burrow for as much
as he's getting paid. He's worth his contract. So I'm
I would never come back and say, well, it's not
Joe's job to make sure they pay others, because other
teams in the NFL has shown the ability to work
through contracts and get them done while paying a quarterback
and a receiver, sometimes even two receivers. I get the

(40:28):
side for Jamar Chase. You sign this, you got to
live up to this contract. It's just not how the
NFL is anymore. I think, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
I think there's a lot of people also Cody, that
like want them to add guaranteed money to Jamar's deal now,
while Joe isn't getting that much because it doesn't really
get bad with Joe until next season where it starts
to hamstring. But the cap is going to continue to
go up every year between now and the end, so
you're anticipating more money available. But the reason why the

(40:56):
Bengals have I think nineteen million dollars in cap space
right now, and the reason you don't spend all of
it is for situations like they're currently in. They need
a running back, they need a right tackle, they might
need a defensive end. So like those situations are why
and also, Evan McPherson is waiting on an extension as well,
So like you look at that and like, you can't
just give all the money to Jamar Chase. You don't

(41:17):
expect Jamar to sit back and want less. I don't
know that. I think there is an argument that Jamar
asking for the extension now is his way of giving
the Bengals a discount so that he doesn't go out
and have another great year and then ask for way
more than justin Jefferson, which is the risk I feel
like the Bengals are willing to take. I don't know
if that's right, wrong, or indifferent, but I feel like

(41:41):
there is an argument that this time is Jamar reaching
out on olive Branch to the organization, and the organization
saying we appreciate that, but we already have you on
the books for the next two years.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Austin, could you make that case for what they could
have done with T Higgins last year, because if you
look last year, you could have probably got T Higgins
for twenty million. Now you'll never get T Higgins for
that cheap. They missed that window. Yeah, could be the
same argument this year. You can't miss this window with
Jamar Chase.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
Theoretically, yeah, well can I can?

Speaker 14 (42:07):
I can?

Speaker 9 (42:08):
I can?

Speaker 15 (42:08):
I say this and I agree with you. But if
if this is the conversation they've had with Jamar and
they said, look, no, we we appreciate it, but no,
then he needs to get on the field because he's
hurting his quarterback, he's hurting a team. I mean, do
you agree with that right now that him sitting out
and not practicing.

Speaker 13 (42:24):
Is causing problem?

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Absolutely?

Speaker 14 (42:27):
Okay.

Speaker 15 (42:28):
And the second thing is I get the Joe. Yeah,
he's earned this money and yet he doesn't have to
take less. But if he's frustrated, he has to weigh Okay,
do I need to be the highest paid or want
to be highest paid? Or can I take forty million?
And I know it's like unheard of in the NFL's
players Association.

Speaker 13 (42:45):
They're not gonna be happy.

Speaker 15 (42:46):
I get that he doesn't have to, but if winning
was number one, he could. That's That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
Yeah, you're good. I'm just saying he could, Cody, I
appreciate the call man, Thank you for calling in.

Speaker 14 (43:00):
Do a great job.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
Thank you. You know no one's ever going to do that. Austin.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
No, one's ever gonna say wow, especially like Tom Brady
late in his career did it a little bit, but
early on you got to make your money. Joe Burrow
is getting what he is worth. And look there there's
also an agent factor in this, because Jamar Chase could
want to get out there and his agents saying you
can't because if you go out there, we lose all this.
So there's a lot of voices in Jamar Chase's ear.

(43:25):
But for the reasons that Austin just explained, it may
be better for the Bengals to get this done now
rather than wait another.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Year or two. And also, like you know, we talked
about what Albert ber said is Chases can't really up
rush to get this done because they know they can
get more money as well.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
Austin, if I have said last year, if today I
should have, I could have said, man, the Bengals could
have signed T Higgins for twenty million dollars last year,
you'd say what I.

Speaker 3 (43:51):
Would have said, Okay, but what's that going to have
an effect on Jamar Chase? M And the reason T
Higgins does not have a long term extension is because
of Jamar Chase, period, point blank, right, Chase isn't here. Yeah,
and Chase will be here eventually. He's gonna have to play.
I mean, I don't expect him to sit out the
next two seasons. But again, I don't know that blaming

(44:12):
Burrow is the right path because his deal ultimately will
look like a steal like Mahomes did, because the salary
cap jumps so much in every single year, and I
mean this year he's taking up eleven percent of the cap.
Next year will be sixteen, the year after that sixteen
and a half, the year after that sixteen, So it's

(44:34):
gonna be pretty locked in over the next several years
of what exactly he's going to be taking up. And
the Bengals know that, and it's up to them to
work around it. Yeah, because without Joe, none of this works,
None of this even matters, correct, All.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
Right, We got to get a break in because Charlie
Goldsmith is nice enough every Friday to give us his
time at the top of our number two. We'll get
back to phone calls after talkbacks today at SINCY three
to sixty thanks to Skyline Chile on the Home of
the Bengals ESPN fifteen to thirty cents, A Sports station.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
Shirts Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in
part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts, All Cincy, all Day.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati sports station.

Speaker 3 (45:19):
Song Get Up with Song.

Speaker 10 (45:27):
Charles Charles, Tom Charles got the blue?

Speaker 2 (45:44):
All right? There it is. You know what it is
the top of our number two. It's a Friday, which
means we are joined by our good friend from Cincinnati
dot Com covering the Reds and the Bengals, and there's
a heck of a lot to talk about with both today.
It's Charlie Goldsmith. Charlie, what's up?

Speaker 16 (46:00):
Hi?

Speaker 8 (46:00):
You doing Tony?

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Charlie, I'm giving you the option today. You want to
start today with Reds or Bengals.

Speaker 14 (46:07):
I will pull. I will do it. Zach Taylor were
doing in this situation at defer the Bengals and pull
the second half?

Speaker 2 (46:14):
All right, Charlie, The Reds have clawed back. They've give
themselves a glimmer of a hope. What have you seen
offensively with the approach at the plate, especially with this
team in that Saint Louis sweep here at Great American Ballpark.

Speaker 14 (46:30):
Yeah, it's pretty simple. Like I'm reminded of the conversation
we had on I think what are often calls opening
day two at the Holy Grail, and I remember saying,
it's guys like Freileyan Benson and India and Steer and
Freedom coming back. The guys who have the more experienced
the guy, the guys who we've seen have a solid
track record of being impact hitters. All those guys had big,

(46:51):
you know, slumps or injuries. Right now you're looking, especially
at that veteran group and including some young guys as well,
the Reds have the most guys healthy and swinging the
bat well as they've had all seasons, and pretty much
it's that simple. You know, there aren't Levi Jordan's in
the lineup right now, and you know, with the exception
of Jonathan India, who broke out of an over twenty

(47:11):
two slump the other day with two homers, you know,
everyone's doing pretty solid for us. Brayley's finding his stride,
Bridle's back years finding his stride. You're seeing a lot
of steps in the right direction, which has the red
playing at about the level I expected them to play
out this year. And then you know, frankly, they're just
gonna need to go on a run and keep going
from here, talk.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
About levels that a team was expected to play at.
I think people knew that Hunter Green could be good?
Did they know he could be this good? Hunter Green?
I mean you, you know, as anyone else, he's got
a legitimate claim to be an nl CY Young Award winner.
What can you say about what you've seen from a
gross standpoint and the pitcher he's become on a start

(47:51):
in startout basis, I mean.

Speaker 14 (47:53):
The fifth ending the other day just summed up his
whole season and in some ways the growth he's made
over the last three years. So he lights out, command, aggressive,
everything you want to see, and then he throws up
and he doesn't just throw up. He issues a walk
and the ball is getting away from him. Two wild
pitches all of a sudden runner on third close game,
Green falls behind three on account and then he battles

(48:15):
back for a strikeout Like that in itself is a
moment of growth. It's you know, how many times have
we had a conversation about Green was just a few
pitches away and people would roll their eyes when Hunter
David Bell said that, well, now Green's winning those pitches
and he looks better than I thought he'd ever look
right now with what he's doing, he's proving something. But
I think the key to this whole thing is ever
since I met Hunter, he's like, Yeah, I want to

(48:37):
win Cyla words, I want to be one of the
best pitches in baseball. I want to be one of
the faces of the sport. So he was kind of
ready for when he got to this moment.

Speaker 2 (48:45):
Talk about the star power Charlie that'll be on the
field starting tonight at GAVP obviously Elie de la Cruz
and opposing him the shortstop for the Kansas City Royals,
who's hitting three forty nine right now on the season,
Bobby Witt Junior, a legitimate MVP, and it did. But
the star power that Bobby wit Junior and Ellie de
la Cruz bring both with the impact of what this

(49:09):
series can be for the Reds. What are you expecting
to see this weekend in this series?

Speaker 14 (49:14):
I think what's so cool about Bobby Witt And I'm
going to try to talk to Bobby this weekend about this.
And then he's kind of six months ahead of Elie
de la Cruz. When you look at the timeline and
the trajectories they've both been on basically since they made
their big league debuts. Was head was ahead of Ellie
and literally just like Ellie de la Cruz. There were
some very frustrating games and stretches from Bobby Wit. A

(49:35):
perfect exemple was how poorly he played against the Reds
last year when the Reds went to Kansas City. You
know who's older than Ellie kind of made that first
jump before Ellie did. Ellie made that jump this year
and then had another big jump in him. And that's
what I kind of want to talk to it about.
How do you make the second jump after you're at
an all star level, but you still have tools in

(49:55):
room to grow. What's the key to that next jump?
And that's kind of you know, ideally for the Reds
pre view for the next six months to a year
can look like probably the Cruz.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
From a health standpoint. Are we any closer to understanding
more of Matt McClain or any of the other guys
that can help this team down the stretch.

Speaker 14 (50:12):
Yeah, Matt McClain asked about him every day, and the
answer I get is, you know, he's doing stuff today,
we need to see how he responds to it. And
it is like day to day is kind of overused.
Matt McClain's day to day. You know, he got reevaluated.
I think it was yesterday from an MRI standpoint, So
today I think we should learn the results of that.
But as a whole, they're just trying to add more
and more exercises. Like I've mentioned, I'm less concerned about

(50:35):
the shoulder, which was pretty fluky, more concerned about the
core oblique stuff, rib cage that keeps popping up. For
such a tightly wound athlete. It's kind of been an
all hands on deck approach, is what I've been told.
To come up with a plan to try to fix
this kind of stuff and come up with a plan
for McClain just to be a you know, be able

(50:56):
to tap into his athleticism without over exerting himself. That's
kind of what they're at right now. And they're kind
of going through that plan right now after a step back,
and he's kind of again day to day.

Speaker 2 (51:06):
Charlie, we know in baseball it feels like you're always
just one really good week away or a bad week
away from changing your season. Do you still give this
team hope? I know the team believes in it, do
you still give them a chance to find a way
in this wild card race.

Speaker 14 (51:22):
I think they have a fifteen to twenty percent shot,
which is lower than what expectations would have been for
it to be, you know, for that percentage to be
at this point of the season. It's a team that
definitely had a shot, Like I mentioned, because of how
the offense is kind of really clicking for the second
time all year, the first time since June. And because
like well, the Cardinals pitching staff is falling off a cliff,

(51:43):
and the Brewers pitching staff is falling off a cliff,
and the Mets pitching staff has been a question all season.
Theret do have one of the best one two threes
you can rely on any team can rely on in
that range. So y fifteen to twenty percent shot, and
let's see where this goes.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
All right, this is Charlie Goldsmith. It's free from Cincinnati
dot Com. Enough on the reds Now. Let's turn our
attention to the Bengals, which has become a little more
concerting over the last week. Let's start Charlie on the
offensive line, from Mims to Trent Brown's back tightness to
Deontay Smith being carted off. How big of a level

(52:19):
of concern is right now the Bengals offensive line as
we are very close now to the regular season.

Speaker 14 (52:25):
Well, the thing to the Bengals is it's nothing new,
and you know even last year, you know, General Williams
moving to right tackle is a bit of a question.
But that's as good as it's been for the Bengals
where they're at at this point at right tackle. And
kind of the unfortunate irony to the Reds is they
drafted a Marii's Nims to find the endless cycle. He
was the one who's going to break the trend. And
you know, I still think he'll do that. I think

(52:47):
we all still think he'll do that. But from where
they're at independent of Mimes, it's a reminder that even
when they drafted Mims, there wasn't the expectation that he'd
be this good right away, since the expectation was that
he'd be the Week one starter. He put himself into
that conversation based on how good he was, So that
ties you back to the Trent Brown decision. How aggressively

(53:09):
they pursued him. They said he was the top player
on their board in that tier free agency despite all
the questions that we're seeing pop up around them, so
well you can say, hey, you know, give him a break,
MIM's got hurt. They definitely, you know, kind of went
all in on Trent Brown being their short term at
the very least and probably long term for the season.

Speaker 17 (53:29):
That was their.

Speaker 14 (53:30):
Planet right tackle this season, a guy who had a
lot of questions around him. Another criticism would be how
much they banked on the twenty twenty one draft class
taking a step forward. They never recycled the backup offensive
line spots with fourth fifth round picks, specifically at a
position like tackle or center. So now those guys struggling
and Deontay Smith's injury puts their depth in an even

(53:53):
brighter spotlight. So it's not ideal, and I think everyone
now is just going to be waiting on them to
take over in the long run and try to you know,
survived until you get to that point.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
Let's talk about Joe Burrow for a second. I thought,
from my vantage point, Monday wasn't the cleanest day. I
thought Tuesday, he looked visibly frustrated the reports from yesterday.
He threw a couple interceptions. Offense didn't have a great day.
I know guys have bad days, Guys can have bad weeks.
How much of Joe Burrow now does this frustration become

(54:23):
You got problems with the offensive line, you're dealing with
right now, You're still bringing some young receivers along, and
at the core of it, maybe you don't feel one
hundred percent, but you also don't have one of the
best receivers in football out there. How much of all
of this coming together and knowing that the season is
right around the corner could lead to maybe some frustration
from Joe Burrow.

Speaker 14 (54:42):
We'll start with this like kind of with the hypothetical
it's the Bengals in Week four played the Bears in
the pouring rain, and your mar Chase didn't play. I
think a lot of us wouldn't be surprised that all
us the Bears went out and won that game. And
that seems to be what happened yesterday the Bengals offense.
I still am not concerned, and Joe Burrow really not
concerned about id list basically have throwers. I wanted to

(55:04):
see boxes, I wanted to check, and then kind of
gear I wanted to see from Burrow. Over the course
of the preseason, Burrow has shown me everything i'd want
to see from him. He's checked every box that I
had in mind entering training camp. What it's been probably
what I've understood the source of these frustrations to be
is this is kind of the only stretch of camp
where you're pulling from the entire offense. You're pulling from

(55:26):
the whole pool of plays instead of a mini pool
of plays, first specific game plan for a specific week.
So that could lead to some of the you know,
there's a lot on guys plates right now that could
lead to some of that, But then overall reasons the
offense is struggling. I mean we talked about the offensive
line stuff. I think that Mike Gesicki has had a
quieter camp. I still think it's an upgrade at that

(55:47):
position of what they had, but it's not like he's
gone out and been, you know, even the same guy
that Hayden Hurst was in camp in twenty twenty two.
I think this is where you're seeing Jermaine Burton, which
might be the most interesting story in me on the
team right now. This is where you're seeing his camp
translate because they don't have guys who can win one
on one down the field consistently right now, or guys
who aren't doing it aside from Higgins and Yoshibash And

(56:10):
so then you got a lot of Irwin and Jackson
and pryor guys you know who's a Bengal likes, but
guys who aren't going to go into you know, hallis
Hall on a rainy Wednesday or Thursday, and you know,
pick a part, a really strong or a solid bear defense.
So you're seeing a little little I shouldn't start to
pop up. Overall, I still think Bengals are a top five,

(56:32):
top eight offense, but maybe not as many questions answered
when you look at the entire offensive.

Speaker 2 (56:38):
Rouston, do you have any concerns or growing concerns where
the Jamar Chase situation sits today? And I don't know
if anyone really knows where it sits today, But if
the Jamar Chase camp is willing to allow this to
go into the regular season, at what point does your
level of concern rays as it relates to getting Jamar
Chase back on the field for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 14 (57:00):
I think Tuesday was completely unnecessary might be the word,
just with how it was handled. The mystery almost that
it became when Jamar Chase wasn't there of practice, I
don't think just helped the situation. From a perspective standpoint,
and from how we're looking and talking about this, I
think no one I've talked about the situation. I've called
it a hold and that's how I view this. And

(57:21):
obviously you're not going to get transparency from a contract
negotiating standpoint, but Brandon, I you holding in and it
hasn't seemed like that's caused any extra tension. Seems like
all the tension there has just been through trade talks.
Steedee Lamb didn't show up, and it seems like the
only tension there is you know, when Jerry Jones gets
out of his way and really you know says I

(57:43):
have no urgency to get something done. I haven't felt
an the tension, and I don't understand why this has
to be something that that's such a mystery. Really that
the biggest piece of information I just like to the
Bangals guarantee is that Jamar Chase is working, that Jamar
Chase is touching passes that obviously Jamar is always going
to be in shape, but that he's getting in football shape.
To me, that's the question that matters most and a

(58:04):
question they've kind of avoided answering, and that approach has
really just caused more conversation and more speculation, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (58:12):
On the defensive side of the ball, it was reported
yesterday that Caleb Williams had a really good day and
you mentioned those Bears Romadunze, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore. That's
a good group of wide receivers and the Bengals secondary
has not been challenged in that way consistently in training camp.
So if Kayleb Williams goes out and has a great day,
that they're going to win some of those battles. From

(58:34):
a battle standpoint at corner number two, how do you
see this race shaping up right now and not losing
the fact that Josh Newton's had a really good camp.
But if you look at DJ Turnery, look at Dax Hill,
worry at on that battle right now.

Speaker 14 (58:47):
So I'll start here and then I'll answer your question.
But at the end of the day, it's not gonna
matter because the Bengals cornerback four plays a ton of
every year, whether that's than DJ Turner or Cam Taylor,
britt or Eli Apple going all the way back to
Darius Phillips. The quarnerback four plays a lot, So even
who loses this competition, I still expect to see him.
I still have Dj Turner ahead of Dax Hill. Honestly,

(59:09):
if I were Dak Taylor, I'd be approaching the seed
Zac way he has. I'd want to get Dax more
reps against the best, which is why I put him
in more preseason and more first team rep opportunities, especially
against the Bears. Dax had a nice game last week
against Tampa Bay. The play that really sticks in my
craw is the third down. Didn't locate the ball against

(59:30):
the receiver he should be beating in one on one
coverage every time. I think that, just in a nutshell
is what hasn't played clicks for Dax, and the only
way he can get there is reps. So keep giving
them reps. But Dj Turner is the guy I've seen
just play solid, strong football before he hit the rookie wall,
and I think his speed will especially show up as

(59:50):
specifically receivers, you know, get faster and faster. That's kind
of a trend more speed around the league. At their
receiver position oversize, which Dax might be well more well
equipped to him. So I'd still give DJ the edge
right now, I'd still pick DJ, But I think they're
handling this the right way, giving Dax every opportunity to
go out and show what he can do.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
I feel like it's been a welcome sign, and it
has been seeing Trey Hendrickson getting more team reps. I
think Miles Murphy's had a good camp to this point.
Still waiting on more from Sam Hubbard. Anything yet.

Speaker 18 (01:00:20):
On Sam Hubbard, I was told initially he was just
dinged up, and obviously this is carried on, but there
wasn't concern I know when it first happened, and I've
seen him moving around.

Speaker 14 (01:00:31):
I would expect this. He's just kind of a managing
him through camp, kind of like they managed Hendrickson through camp.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Early on the interior defensive line, I thought Tampa found
some success in the run game going at that interior
part of the defensive line. From a confidence level. We
talked about the secondary. Where are you at on that
interior side of the defensive line for the Bengals, Well.

Speaker 14 (01:00:52):
That's probably the spot and most concerned about on the
roster overall the Bengals. The Bengals drafted Chris Jenkins and
the Kennedy Jackson to fill maybe the team's biggest need
on the depth chart. Jackson had a slow, disappointing start
the camp and then got hurt is all crutches and
Jackson and Jenkins had his welcome and Welcome to the
NFL moment against Tampa Bay last week. You know, regardless

(01:01:14):
of what ends up happening, it's kind of the only
spot on a roster where it doesn't even feel like
a tough petition, Like, no matter what happens, Chris Jenkins
is going to play against the run just because they
don't have that many bodies who can do stuff like that.
Kind of a one exception could be And I'm very
interested to see if this would end up happening, Like
would you just make bj Hill and even a shells

(01:01:35):
of Rankings who they signed to rush the passer, Maybe
give him a bit more base down snaps, maybe take
a bit off their plate on third down and try
to just get creative and kind of hope for the
best on third downs with say Joseph o Stay inside
or a Miles Murphy inside like they might have to
get really creative and put themselves in some tricky spots.
If Jenkins doesn't take a step forward, and if Jackson's

(01:01:57):
still out, it's it's again my biggest question on the
roster as a whole right.

Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
Now, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Lastly, looking ahead to tomorrow, what are one or two
things you are most excited to be tuned in and
watching with the Cincinnati Bengals to evaluate.

Speaker 14 (01:02:14):
Yeah, kind of the one guy I alluded to earlier,
but I'll talk on now because you know we talked
about to the line, the defensive line. Kind of an
interesting question, maybe under the radar question about a player
in the spotlight, Jermaine Burton. You know, we you know,
you guys have talked that length. Everyone's talked that length
about what this camp and what this preseason has been
for him. Jamaine Burton's got to play on special clops.

(01:02:35):
The Bengals have pretty much a rule that backup receivers
have to play on special teams because you know, those
are bodies you need, those are positions you need, Those
are areas where you have to contribute if you're not
getting every down reps. And if Jermaine Burton's going to
be a backup on this team because it's going to
be an active backup on this team because he's not
going to be a starter. Jamaine Burton has to figure

(01:02:55):
out whether that's gunner, whether that's vice. Maybe they get
creative with him as an oppos in the return game,
but that's not really who I see Burton being. So
name Burton has to do that those types of things.
Then I've seen them like introducing that to him very
very gradually over the course of camp, and that hasn't
been as encouraging as say Andrea Yoshibash just getting thrown

(01:03:16):
into the fire and balling out on special teams last season.
If Jermaine Burton can beat guys down the field, he
can beat guys in punk coverage and for him to
be active, that's what I want to see from him.
And that's what they're going to need him to do
in the preseason game. If he's going to be active.
He didn't get those chances last week. If you really
want to take this rise up the depth chart, seriously,
I need to see it on special teams.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
Charlie, before I let you go.

Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Mumford High School in Michigan has just made a huge, huge,
landing in the coaching ranks. They have hired Connor Stallions
as their defensive coordinator Mumford High School. They haven't had
a winning campaign since twenty nineteen. What do you expect
from Mumford now having Connor Stallions headline that defense? At
the high school.

Speaker 14 (01:03:59):
Ranks, Stallions is a very controversial figure. However, I think
Harball's best overall attribute to the head coach is being
able to identify defensive coaching talent. Mike McDonald his new
defensive coordinator in LA. They've consistently had success there. That's
why so many Michigan defenders are getting drafted. So I

(01:04:21):
overall would always bet on a Michigan former assistant coach
going into a play calling role, even if it is
at a terrible school.

Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
Austin your thoughts on that, I'm appalled, bald. Charlie.

Speaker 14 (01:04:35):
You are a former Michigan defensive assistant who has struggled.

Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
Yep, get him, Charlie. Yeah, I've never given that thought
until right now, so I would have to have some time.

Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Charlie, you're the best man. A huge weekend ahead for
Cincinnati sports. Uh, you have all the coverage on Cincinnati
dot Com. Very appreciative of you making time for us
each and every Friday. Have a great weekend. Say hid
a Bobbywood junior for us? Okay, how good weekend?

Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Thank you? Just ignore that. Yeah, thanks Troy, He's the best.
Just ready to go in on all in on Monfort.
Oh my god, Connor.

Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
Stallion stock is rising. This is Sincy three sixty your talkbacks,
the Friday edition when we come back on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, thanks to our friends at Cincy.

Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
Shirts the NATI Sports Station.

Speaker 8 (01:05:22):
Is that time for talkbacks? Press the microphone, hand record
your message for ustand and tone, please keep it clean
and don't be mean. And a sprinkle sprinkled drip drip.

Speaker 6 (01:05:36):
It's that time for talkbacks.

Speaker 19 (01:05:38):
It's our favorite.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Part of Sancy three sixties.

Speaker 20 (01:05:43):
Austin, buddy, play that talkback on your screen, and please
try not to Saba Taja.

Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
All right, let's go. It's a Friday edition of talkback.
Let's dive right in. The Friday editions are typically some
of the better editions. Yes, we'll see what happens. We'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
That's a unique start to really really strong, not setting
the tone that we had hoped.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
I asked my wife. Do you have another lover?

Speaker 16 (01:06:12):
She said, I'm sorry multipe personality Mike, but there.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
Is somebody else, got punch.

Speaker 14 (01:06:18):
What's his name?

Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
I wanted to know.

Speaker 14 (01:06:20):
She paused, let out a sigh, and.

Speaker 5 (01:06:22):
Then she said, Mauricio, come again, what Mauricio Pocatino.

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
What is happening?

Speaker 16 (01:06:33):
Boom?

Speaker 21 (01:06:39):
Never miss you gotta had time today.

Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
Oh those three picks of a Burrow yesterday don't mean
a thing to me.

Speaker 13 (01:07:06):
Have handled right.

Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
In high school, I played a PC for coach Slaughter.

Speaker 22 (01:07:09):
Y'all right, going with sargs, but Coach.

Speaker 13 (01:07:11):
Slaughter puts the spit on my nose.

Speaker 14 (01:07:13):
He made my feet hit the pavement.

Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
One day I threw four.

Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
Picks in the scrimmage.

Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
But you know what, I was all district that year.

Speaker 22 (01:07:18):
That's how I bounced back.

Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
And if Taylor does the same to Burrow, he'll learn
from it.

Speaker 13 (01:07:22):
If he has him on Lake Michigan today with feet
on pavement.

Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
He'll learn seat on pavement.

Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
We needed that rain we got yesterday bad and today in.

Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
The four k yeah, yards needed it. Man, the yard
needed it. Hey, guys, Mark from the groove Marcus.

Speaker 23 (01:07:39):
So my buddy was texting me this morning and asked
right now, Hunter Green as at four hundred and seventy
eight career strikeouts. The record is fifteen ninety two sept
by Jim Maloney. Do you think that he's actually got
a legit chance of breaking that strikeout record?

Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Yeah? I think so? Why not? Absolutely? Why not go
get it?

Speaker 24 (01:08:04):
Come back with talkback fan? This is huge azz up
in College Hill you. I just want to say a
couple of takeaways from that joint practices. I'm actually excited
to burrow through three picks during the practice because that
means he's working out these kinks parks the regular season.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
There he goes.

Speaker 6 (01:08:19):
See him start off as slow as we have in
years past, hopefully.

Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Trent Irwin looked really good.

Speaker 24 (01:08:24):
I know we say this about white receivers, but he's crafty,
he's sneaky fast, he's a master of his skill.

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
The guy looks good, and I feel bad for Smith
and Evans. Okay, so so interesting. Take getting of the
way now, you in College Hill said, Trent Irwin looked
really good. After seeing a six second clip, Yep.

Speaker 19 (01:08:44):
I'm doing a lot of driving today, so I've got
a start bend on driving conditions, driving in the rain,
driving in the snow, driving in thick fog.

Speaker 2 (01:08:59):
Oh, I'll start driving in the rain. Yes, i will
bench snow and I'll cut fall. Yes, I agree.

Speaker 25 (01:09:11):
It's God speaking of weddings during football season. You know
I'm available to preside over these weddings if anybody needs
God to officiate the wedding, so let me know.

Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
Well, see, now we're competing because I can also officiate
a wedding.

Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
That is true. I've done so interesting.

Speaker 26 (01:09:36):
Yeah, like Kevinn Nordon, because I can talk to you.
You're now it's funny sleep from the pair of days
away from this NFL fell. It's time to go hit
the wires, Go pick up some death on defense, Go
get another running back with Evan's going down and I
with you one percent. Got to clean these practices up,
got to get things clicking, because we know games reflect

(01:09:58):
what you do in practice, and that's not it insult
that's just the fact of life.

Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
Leaving Lamar, then we need Jama Big Day.

Speaker 27 (01:10:06):
Toddy Austin, George, the Reds. You're gonna make it. I'm
telling you what we got in the next twelve. We've
got Kansas City without playing the White Sox, which are
twelve and one against our five hundred both teams after three,
and then we've got the Blue Jays, the Pirates and Oakland.
We're gonna need to take me twelve, two and three
of the next fifteen games. Matt gets us back in

(01:10:30):
the race and in the playoff home hell you, they're
gonna do it. Go red, Tude, go blue.

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
I think that was Kenny Chesney in the background.

Speaker 17 (01:10:38):
Tonius give me a drinkally for the Friday drink recommendation
of the week, and folks, a.

Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Little bit about red wine.

Speaker 17 (01:10:48):
Made it more red wine than anything else. Yeah, it's good.
It's better for your health. Lesson the carbs. Y'all should
start get into it's acquired taste, though, So you gotta
start with the light ones. I recommend trying a pino
no war into red wine.

Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
Try that.

Speaker 17 (01:11:02):
It's lighter, it's not as strong. You'll be able to
do well with it. I still like it with dinner
all the time.

Speaker 14 (01:11:07):
Everyone.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
So Johnny's drink recommendation, he's gone away from the shots
and he's giving wine recommendations.

Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
That's what happens. He's maturing. Yeah, you've been in office
for a long time. You're becoming your second term and
you've gotta change and to tie.

Speaker 17 (01:11:20):
It full circle red wine and the Bengals, folks, is
a place called Cooper's Talk, right across the street from
the studios that y'all are at. You can go get
a teasting there with the somalia. But the reason I
bring it up for the Bengals, I sat at the
table there and my server comes up to me and says, Johnny,
you know who's just sat at that seat before.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
You did all pro Tighten Drew sample. That's real.

Speaker 17 (01:11:43):
He's so hard on Drew and tremain prap. Better have
a good year this year, squear.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
God man, yourmain picked off a big lab yesterday. Yeah,
Cony Bill Belichick.

Speaker 28 (01:11:55):
Here, a girlfriend and I are coming to uh Cincinnati
to take in the opener against the Patriots. She wants
to stop at a place called Byline or Skyline, whatever
the hell it is, and have a something called a
three way. If my heart can handle it, I'm all

(01:12:17):
for it.

Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
Thanks glad to hear you coming into town. Let us
know how it goes, Yes, please.

Speaker 19 (01:12:27):
You know with everybody's like saying, you know, the Bengals
offenses is off and Joe Burrow is off. Man it's
all smoking mirrors. You're doing this because it's preseason.

Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
They're not going to show they're okay, hand of cards.
You're a come out Week one and shock the world. Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
I thought it was about, you know, knocking the rust off,
getting ready for the season.

Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
Let's make a running list of different spin zones about
yesterd Day's practice. So we've got the rain rain, even
though the Bears were able to throw the ball just fine.
Not trying to show anything. We've got not trying to
show anything, even though they don't play the Bears this season.
We've got workout the kinks, yep. Just get it done now,
get all the bad stuff out now, yep. And then
obviously no Jamar Chase, no Jama means that you know,

(01:13:19):
of course, the offense isn't gonna look very taking anything done.
Filos Hay Kyle here, bo I tell you what.

Speaker 29 (01:13:25):
I don't have too much today other than that, well,
right now, you guys are just hitting the gut dang
nail on the head about this offensive line and how
the Bengals need to get better with drafting and evaluating
the position ball. I tell you what it feels like,
you know, Joe Burr's contract and having him back there

(01:13:45):
is all for not if we can't protect the guy.

Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
Yeah, it's going to start and stop with protection.

Speaker 7 (01:13:54):
Hello, this is former President ro Well. Remember how Joe
Burrow put on the line?

Speaker 3 (01:14:01):
Sorry, Ronald, that will have to wave. We've got breaking
news with the Cincinnati Bengals. Oh a contract extension has
been reached. Oh. This according to Mike Garoffalo of NFL Network. Okay, Mike,
the Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms on a three year,

(01:14:22):
sixteen point five million dollar extension with kicker Evan McPherson.

Speaker 7 (01:14:28):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
Man, Evan McPherson will earn ten million dollars in new
money in the first year of the deal. Okay, the
highest ever for a three year Kicker extension. Okay, once more,
the Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms on a three year,
sixteen point five million dollar extension with Evan McPherson. This,

(01:14:50):
according to Mike Garoffalo of NFL Network. McPherson will earn
ten million in new money in the first year of
the deal. Man, the highest ever for a three year
Kicker extension.

Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
Congratulations to Evan McPherson. I'm sure Jamar is ready to
congratulate him.

Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
I was going to say this probably now just opens
the door. They'll get the Jamar thing. This is probably
the hold up.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Yes, now that Evan's got his money, Yeah, we can
focus on Jamar in all honesty. Good move, one of
the best kickers in football. We know the value of
that position. Get him locked up. Yeah, well said.

Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Good job by the Bengals. Mister President, I'm sorry, we'll
return to you now.

Speaker 7 (01:15:31):
Hello, this is former President Ronald Reagan. And well, remember
how Joe Burrow put his neck on the line by
basically strong arming the Bengals into drafting Jamar Chase over
the Piney sool. And now Jamar seems to be hanging
his buddy Joe on the line with his holdout. Gee,
Pine Soul isn't looking so bad anymore, especially when you

(01:15:53):
consider the injuries to the offensive line and Jamar's holdout.

Speaker 3 (01:15:57):
Wow, going to this as a spin zone think that
was coming, but it's well done.

Speaker 30 (01:16:05):
Yeah, just a simple question about the Jamar Chase situation.
Can the Bengals, the Cowboys and the forty nine ers
call each other up and say, what is your holdout
receivers camp asking for so we get an idea of
what the asking market is for the unsigned players or
does that fall under the legal definition of collusion.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
I hope you can answer it. Thanks. It might be collusion.
I don't know if you can get away with that.
I don't know the answer to that officially, but I
am assuming it would be considered ill.

Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
What I do think is in that the Evan McPherson
stuff is just blowing my mind, Austin because he was practicing. Yeah,
Bengals must just be rewarding those that practice for them.

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Is that your spin zone? Spin zone practice? Paid Bengals
throw a middle finger to Jamar Chase question he was
out in the rain yesterday.

Speaker 31 (01:17:00):
All right, guys, Tom Sharonville. I have no idea about
cap issues whatever. I understand the numbers. But is Chase
about guaranteed money or yearly salary?

Speaker 8 (01:17:17):
Let's go burrowing him for ten years.

Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
I would assume to do or mostly an him on
the field in today's world, is about the guaranteed money.

Speaker 32 (01:17:26):
It's lovely and happy Friday. Excited to see Mikey biceps
back in town tonight. Yeah, but hoping the Reds could
beat him because you know what happens if they do
back at five hundred, and we've been saying it all year,
mid August.

Speaker 3 (01:17:41):
Anything could happen. That's it.

Speaker 32 (01:17:42):
Quick fantasy question for you. Jas sure give me a quarterback,
wide receiver, and running back that you're fading in the
draft this year. So they're overhyped. Everyone's talking about them,
but you want to avoid them.

Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
I'm I'm gonna step back for McCaffrey this year just
because he has had injuries in his career and he
was so healthy and so good last year. I'm staying
away from Stefan Diggs from a receiver standpoint, and probably
steering clear of Trevor Lawrence to the quarterback position.

Speaker 3 (01:18:09):
I'm going to stay away from Anthony Richardson to the Colts.
I'm going to stay away from UH running back wise,
running back wise, running back wise. You were saying you
weren't drafting Joe. I'm going to stay away from Aaron
Jones with the Minnesota Vikings. UH, and then a receiver
that I'm going to stay away from that everybody's loving.

(01:18:31):
MM tough to say, maybe Pooka Nakuwa. Okay, that's that's it.
I have no idea.

Speaker 20 (01:18:36):
It's okay, Hey, guys, this is Terry call him from somewhere
near Athens, Ohio. This is probably a little bit out there,
but do you think Joe is possibly dare I say,
throwing some of these interceptions on purpose? Message back to

(01:18:58):
upper management to get this thing done with Jamar.

Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
Love the show, Thanks at it.

Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Yep, Joe Burrow taking a dive looking bad on purpose.

Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
It's Friday. I got that good hope.

Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
Come on.

Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
Two out of three red lame, let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
And two out of three. We're in here Monday talking
about a team with a winning record. Oh man, can
you imagine.

Speaker 16 (01:19:26):
Last year at about this time, I left the talk
back saying that Hunter Green was he gonna go win
this San Francisco and proved that he was one of
the best pictures in baseball. And Tony laughed laughed at
the notion. Guess what, Bud, who's laughing now? I am, well.

Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
It only took about seven months for your prediction to
come true. Receipts keptain Man on this show.

Speaker 33 (01:19:55):
If Jamar Chase didn't have the good seasons that he
did with the Bengals.

Speaker 13 (01:20:01):
Back for him to read negotiate contract for a lower contract.

Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Yeah, probably, Yeah, I want that money back. If you
don't produce as much, you probably get less money. I
want that money back.

Speaker 14 (01:20:10):
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 20 (01:20:10):
Out on a lemon and say Trick Brown stinks.

Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
He just feels like Lyell.

Speaker 8 (01:20:15):
Collins all over.

Speaker 23 (01:20:19):
I'm going to the Bay Area this next week, the
Area the Giants and a.

Speaker 33 (01:20:25):
Game at both both their ballparks.

Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
I'm looking forward to it greatly. Bring me back some
sort of souvenir from Oracle Park because that's my favorite
parking base. I don't want to think about if he's
I've never been, but I want to go so bad.
Uh He's I would imagine Lyle Collins is better. Oh
my goodness.

Speaker 34 (01:20:42):
Hey, it's David Bell. Hey, David, give me that phone
number to Bill. I'd like to join him at Skyline
and then his lady for that three way. Probably get
rained out tonight, So Matt McLean's making some rehab Stokes

(01:21:04):

Speaker 3 (01:21:06):
Thanks. Thanks. It is a five to one three eight
six seven, five to three zero nine.

Speaker 14 (01:21:12):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (01:21:14):
Hey, guys, I got a question. Do you guys take
collusion means collusion?

Speaker 16 (01:21:20):
Just want here?

Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Good question? I don't know thanks George, Hey.

Speaker 33 (01:21:23):

let's go Bengals. Hopefully they bounce back tomorrow night.

don't know when the schedule gets released.

Speaker 6 (01:22:01):

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):

For all you cool cats and foxy ladies out there.

Speaker 3 (01:22:15):
I just had a.

Speaker 20 (01:22:16):
Question, do you think the Bengal's gonna throw the whole
season because they won't sign Jamar Chase.

Speaker 15 (01:22:21):
I feel like those three pigs were all to spy Paul.

Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
Brown, Mike Brown and the whole Brown family. Thanks then
I'll hang up. Kevin, thank you. Double dipping today, oh
Man Friday vibes man imitation, best form of flattering. That's
our last one. Very good.

Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
How about unbelievable breaking news in the middle of that.

from the Cincinnati Bengals. That's why that Jamar Chase deal
can't get done. Too much guaranteed money going to money Mac.

Speaker 3 (01:22:54):

Speaker 11 (01:24:27):
Show?

Speaker 13 (01:24:28):
So far, I got about three things for you on
this share. I don't think there's any way Hunter's gonna
win that and be nice because but sales just out
of out of site this year, sales been ridiculous. Yeah,
he is just ordered that wif or War and he's
the only one that's thunder one, so he's zero point
nine seven. And like the guys have said, wins over

(01:24:49):
the last twenty years don't mean as much as they
did in the past. But in the past and that everything.
But that's not the case. Now, I got a trivia
question for you. Okay, Well, who has the fewest amount
of wins to win a cy Young Award? And I'll
give you a clue. It's I believe he was in
the National League. There, I could be wrong, how much.

Speaker 3 (01:25:11):
I say National League.

Speaker 14 (01:25:14):
One?

Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
Team?

Speaker 3 (01:25:15):
Did give me a team?

Speaker 13 (01:25:17):
Well, I know he pitched for the Royals, and I
know he pitched for the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
What is the question?

Speaker 13 (01:25:26):
The curest amount of wins to win a cy Young?

Speaker 3 (01:25:30):
Has a closer won the cy Young before.

Speaker 8 (01:25:34):
He did?

Speaker 13 (01:25:34):
That's that's who wanted gaged me.

Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
Oh, Eric, okay, I'll say with with a few wins,
it has to be a pitcher. I just didn't know what.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Well, yeah, pictures win the Young? Well, I mean it
had to be a closer though.

Speaker 13 (01:25:49):
Yeah, good job. Yeah, two wins wins in two thousand
and three to win the Sight.

Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
You know, I ain't bad.

Speaker 13 (01:25:57):
So his e r A was like zero point zero
or zero zero zero whatever you can do with anyone.
How about I told you I was going to do
your a little every once in a while, throwing a
little John McVay retort for you.

Speaker 15 (01:26:12):
Yes, And he's he's been saying in training camp, this
is the best group of.

Speaker 13 (01:26:16):
Guys he's ever hit. All six of his top picks
are all making a team.

Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
Did you see in their next in their next preseason game,
he's sitting up in the booth.

Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
He's doing like broadcast.

Speaker 2 (01:26:27):
He's allowing his assistance to coach the game, which I
think is awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:26:31):
Isn't that crazy?

Speaker 13 (01:26:33):
His pick? His uh, his pick. His first two picks
were Jarrett versu at a f issue and uh and
the tack the interior tackles Brandon Fisk and he's totally
jack with him and Aaron Donald's been working exclusively with
those two guys. That's how high they are. And they
got Blake Forbes evidently lighting it up from Michigan, and

(01:26:55):
they've got a great punter from Stanford. So and then
they got at the end also from one Washington state
named Lennon Jackson. Here totally jacked up the best.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Yeah, I wouldn't put it past them to have a
huge year coming back from the success they built on
last year.

Speaker 13 (01:27:11):
I wouldn't either. And then the final, if you'd let me,
Little League World Series has just been out of sight
first game the Bay from Mexico Pitchers of No No,
unbelievable first game.

Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
I love the Little League World Series.

Speaker 13 (01:27:24):
Such a cool, interesting trivia for you Chinese type. They
leads leads all the US or international teams in the
seventy four year in history. They got eighteen rings. They're
like the New York Yankees of the Little Wag World
Series right now. What's cool about it is the international
team teams and the American teams are tied at thirty

(01:27:47):
seven rings of peace. So you can't get any better
charity than that. And and what the hecks the other
guy's name? Shoot, I can't think of. Oh yeah in
Hawaii's really again. As you know, they've won five League
World Series in the last fifteen years.

Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
Yeah, I love the event. MO talks about it a lot,
how good that event is. And uh, I'm certainly in
one hundred percent agreement, Mike. We got to get to
the hour. Thank you so much, man, we'll talk again.
Thanks for cool, Yes, sir.

(01:30:34):
MLS schedule coming up for FC Cincinnati. Will do so
as we do each and every Friday, or as of
last week, Thursday, with the voice of FC Cincinnati, Tom
Gallairder joining us now, Tommy g Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, what's
going on?

Speaker 8 (01:30:47):
Tony, Tony, Tony. Happy Friday. Little wet today, but that
will not dampen our spirits. We're excited about the final
nine regular season MLS games. Gearing up for a weekend
off with no no f c Sincanti games, and no
kids games, It's gonna be a bit bizarre. Yeah, if
you'd like to come over and help with the I

(01:31:08):
have my honey do list. Uh, that'd be great. Take volunteers.
So it's gonna be a busy, busy weekend on the ranch.

Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
Okay, okay, Before we dive into FC Cincinnati, I have
to ask because I follow along and I see your
posts from the Sneaker Ball and can can you describe
to those that maybe not following you, that that should
be following you?

Speaker 3 (01:31:32):
Just describe the fit for me? What were you doing
to fit well?

Speaker 8 (01:31:36):
First of all, if you weren't there, you missed the
event of the year, the sneaker Ball is where it's at.
Biggest party was at t QS Stadium. The vibes were
off charts. So this year I ran with the it's
a black tie vand with sneakers if you're not familiar
with what the sneaker Ball is, all the benefit bigger
than sneakers that love nonprofit that I'm on the board of.
And my fit was a black suit, white uh shirt

(01:32:01):
and I went with a red and black tie that
that you want to know the tie was actually get
from Barricats Uh Butch Jones Man Butcher Jones gifted tie
really really class high. And then I went with the
Jordan one high lost and found to match the tie

(01:32:21):
in the suit with the too pants for for the
you know, to bring the whole black guy did not
win Best Dressed. My friend Bobbie did, so congratulations to him.
He had the hat. I mean, I feel like I
have a year now I in my hat game for that.

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
I feel like because your wife kind of stole the
show before you even left the house. Well obviously, I mean,
so you're you're playing for second when you're already leaving
the house, so you know you're not gonna get both
stressed at the at the venue.

Speaker 8 (01:32:49):
But but here's the thing. There's a a female Okay, okay,
there's a chance as well. So so the door was open,
is what I'm saying. And and I failed. Bobbie Ward
great hat. I mean, we well coordinated. If you follow
me on Instagram, put a picture last night, so Probabi
and I were well coordinated with the red black white team.
But he blew me out of the water. So I

(01:33:10):
just have to tip my I have a hat.

Speaker 3 (01:33:12):
Yeah, I can stop you maybe the problem.

Speaker 8 (01:33:15):
Yeah, but I mean honestly, every year of the ground,
the room and the guys with the hats always always
are the best dress. So I think that's the formula
of a year to figure it out.

Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
Back to the drawing board on that FC Cincinnati, Now
back to the drawing board for as you mentioned, the
final nine, a very rare event because there's no League's Cup,
no MLS for you this weekend. But take me back
to the round of sixteen, the loss against Philly, because
it kind of got to that point in the League's Cup. Tommy,
we talked about this last Thursday. All Right, if you're
going this far, you might as well go win it.

(01:33:44):
That wasn't the case. We heard as much from Pat
Noonan after the match. What went wrong for this FC
Cincinnati team against Philly and and one of those things
can now be corrected going forward.

Speaker 8 (01:33:57):
Yeah, I think, you know, first and foremost, you ran
into a red hot Philadelphia Union team that's won five
of six. The only game in that stretch that they
did not win was a draw. And when you when
you add in the goals from the game on Tuesday,
they've now scored their opponents in our last six games
seventeen to four. So Philadelphia showed up healthy, maybe really

(01:34:19):
healthy for the first time all season long, and firing
on all cylinders. And look, that doesn't mean that she
since I couldn't defeat it them. I thought, I thought
the one who bleuw had a nice lineup for this match,
and maybe a little bit flat. You know. I haven't
talked to Pat, you know, save our post game chat
on the air, and I didn't bring it up. Then.
You know, I thought maybe the team was a little

(01:34:40):
bit tired, and it was a fourth match in thirteen days,
you know, not the craziest of stretch. We've seen those
many times over the last two years. But when you
add into it, Hidoziah Wazim just coming into the team,
didn't really have a preseason, you know, very very short
build up. You know, I wonder, you know, how maybe
tired he was getting Miles Robinson. Look, this guy's a

(01:35:02):
pros pro. He was with the national team for COPA,
didn't play, then came back, played a couple of games,
went to Paris for the Olympics, played all the games
for the Olympic team, you.

Speaker 3 (01:35:12):
Know, and these are high energy, high stress.

Speaker 8 (01:35:14):
Games in the Olympics, right you're locked in the whole
time you're there. Came back and looked Miles as a
pros pro, so he's jumping right back in because he
knows the team needs him. I'd imagine Miles a little
bit tired too. And look, all of these are excuses.
Could f C Cincinnati have won the match on Tuesday night, Absolutely,
But Philadelphia proved to be the better team. They were
clinical and they're finishing. F C Cincinnati was not. They

(01:35:37):
had a spurt there though, where they got it back
at two two, and it felt like deja vu. And
you know, for for about sixty seconds, he felt like, Wow,
I see Sin Sanny's gonna win his match, there's no
doubt they're gonna win the match, and then obviously Philadelphia
comes and snaps off two more goals and it's over
from there. So look, you want to make lemonade on Lemons.

(01:35:59):
The team gets some rest and Lucho who needs some
rest to get those magical feet ready for the nine
games that have remained in the regular season. So I
think that the rest will be good going into the
Miami game when they bring it back. But yeah, sure,
certainly a tough loss on a night when the team
wasn't its best and ran into a very hot Philadelphia team.

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
You know, I thought Pat Noonan's comments after the match
talked about a tough night, poor performance, but also it
was asked about this roster capable of competing for trophies,
and he's very bluntly said not if we perform like
they did against Philly. But yes, they're capable of making
a strong push. Said he's got a little bit of time,
see if it makes sense to improve the roster with

(01:36:40):
some additions. And next thing, you know, here comes an addition,
tell us about the newest addition to FC Cincinnati on
loan for the rest of this season.

Speaker 8 (01:36:50):
Yeah, so they bring on Nico Joe Achini. He have
been playing over in Italy in their second division. And
Bok was with Saint Louis last year and scored ten goals.
One of those ten was against c Cincinnati and that
blowout at Saint Louis City, so a little bit of
familiarity with him. The great news is that he's American,

(01:37:11):
so they don't have to worry about any visa situations.
He already knows MLS. He should fit right in to
the league from the moment he arrives, which I believe
was yesterday in getting to Cincinnati, and he has a
full week of build up. Boys start against Miami. I
don't know, we'll see, maybe not, but if he's available
on the bench, then that gives you another weapon. They
knew they needed another attacking piece, and I think some

(01:37:34):
people flinched a little bit when they saw that they
signed him as a designated player through the rest of
the season, or you know, he joins them. He's on
loan from Como. But f C Cincinnati had an open
DP slot, and if they had gone past that midnight
Center time deadline on Wednesday had not brought anybody in,
they still have an open DP slot and it would
be unused then for the rest of the season. So

(01:37:56):
to slot him there, if that's how it works with
the roster rules as a rental for the nine game
plus the postseason, which you hope it's five or six
games to get you through MLS Cup, then I have
no problem with it. And I think there was a
lot of angst amongst the fan base down the stretch
of this window, and I don't really understand why, because
Chris Albright's in a fantastic job in putting this roster

(01:38:18):
together and the leaps and bounds this team has come
from versus three years ago when we're sitting here looking
for the team's first win at Tquel Stadium. They any
winning games at home and then obviously had the twelve
match losing streak to end the season. So what they've
done in building the roster, Obviously the departure of Aaron

(01:38:40):
Pupenza opened up some space, but wanting Chris to go
and just sign somebody to get them in and not
do their due diligence or not getting somebody they're sold
on at locking them into another DP spot is not
the way to do business. And I think that they
did a great deal of business in the break, even
if it only mean or in this window, even if
it only meant bringing two players, because you would dress

(01:39:01):
the need in Chudosi Awasei. I'm a player that the
team had been tracking for a long time and had
had had an interest in for a long time. And
I think Chidosi has very much looked a part and
will continue to as he becomes more comfortable. And now
you add a guy like Nico in who's a strong
goal scorer and somebody they're excited about having in the mix, well,
that's fantastic. You put that together with a healthy Loucho Acosta,

(01:39:23):
and I think that's going to be the key for
the rest of the way. A healthy Loucho Acosta, and
we know that this team can string together wins and
put themselves in contention for MLS Cup and in contention
to win the Supporter Shield. So I think that the
team did just fine in the window, and I think
they positioned themselves for the next transfer window to have

(01:39:44):
roster flexibility. That's what you want your team to have,
not to be locked locked in and saying, man, there's
nowhere to go with these spots. So yeah, I think
Nico will be an exciting attacker. I hope he steps
on the pitch to start scoring goals straight away. Down
in Miami.

Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
It's so unique because for everything you just laid out,
this organization has been foot on the gas pedal for
years now. Every time they've had an opportunity to make
this club better, they've done so, and they've done so
in a way that they don't mortgage the future. It
is all moves that you're like, man, this makes sense
for now, and it makes sense for the future. Throw
into the case they've lost that. You lose players before

(01:40:20):
the season, You lose the all time at that point,
all time goal scorer going into the season. You lose
multiple defenders throughout the course of the regular season. You're
reigning MVP in the MLS is banged up, he's missed
some matches. You've got guys missing for international duties. Miles
Robinson's playing with the men's national team, and it feels
like because of a brief stint of struggles that all

(01:40:43):
is lost. And if you just look to how this
team was playing before those struggles, when they were a
little bit more healthier, when guys were fresh, this team
we were talking about man, they're ready to make a
run again. And to your point, and I guess I'm
just capitalize it. It just doesn't feel like they're that
far off as maybe some feel like they are getting
ready to go into this final nine.

Speaker 8 (01:41:02):
No, I don't think so, and I hope not. And
and look the way the standings are right now. If
she's in, Sandy has everything to gain in chasing down
the season, right So, I think the team has positioned
themselves very well, you know, and has the right pieces now,
just like every achievement lead, they're gonna stay healthy, you know,

(01:41:24):
through these nine games and into the playoffs. But if
they do that, then they'll be in a great spot.
Does that mean there are one hundred percent gonna win?
The supporters should know they're five points back of Miami
right now, so obviously there is work to be done.
But how you restarting this thing? Well, you're going to
Miami right LA Galaxy are point ahead at l AFC.

(01:41:45):
Who will see a TQL stadium or point behind? So
I think it's going to be an amazing race. I
mean last year, remember if she sin sanity kind of
ran away with it, that's to all of our benefit.
We certainly enjoyed that. I think it may come down
to decision Day this year, and he plays in Philadelphia
on decision Day, you know, but if they get a
win in that game in Miami, that all of a sudden,

(01:42:06):
Cincinnati is at two points behind Miami and they're even
on games. So I think it's gonna be a great
race down the home stretch. And I think that the
team has positioned themselves, you know, not just via this window,
but but via the last window when they brought in
Luca Orshato and they brought in Pavel Buca. And these
are the guys who are starting and playing for your

(01:42:29):
team right now. And you know, Yu Yakubo has been
fantastic this year, and you've brought in Kevin Kelsey already.
So I think the team has has the weapons you
brought in DeAndre Yedlin. Let's not forget about that, you know.
So look at the big picture of the course of
the year, Cincinni has added multiple starters who are going
to contribute to this team being ready for a playoff

(01:42:49):
push in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
You know what, Tommy, I know it's it's it's right there,
so we all can see it. But just the importance
when you think of, Okay, nine to go, you mentioned
they're going to see this Philadelphia team they just lost
in the League's Cup on the final match day of
the regular season. But this three game stretch coming out,
you get Miami, who you're obviously looking up in the
points standings with, you get Montreal, and then right after that,

(01:43:11):
we know what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:43:12):
It's hell is real.

Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
The Columbus Crew sit five behind f C Cincinnati right now.
So coming out of this break, you want to be healthy,
you want to be refreshed. You also don't want to
be flat because again Miami and then Samwich at to
Montreal is Columbus. So how important is how these next
few weeks are handled leading into that Miami game to

(01:43:33):
make sure we've talked about how you handle the brakes before,
but to make sure you're set to go and hit
the ground running.

Speaker 8 (01:43:40):
No, Tony, we knew this coming in the season when
we got a schedule all the way back what was
it December when it was released, and we looked at
this home stretch after League's Cut with Miami and then
knowing you're getting Columbus at home and two weeks later,
after a two game road trip in Minnesota and Nashville
have almost been formidable opponents. Nashville has been down this year.

(01:44:01):
They have a new head coach in will they be
informed by then maybe somebody. Either way, it's two trade
road games, then you come home for LFC. Then you're
gonna go to New York City FC, who's having a
good year. Then you're home for Orlando City, who, oh,
by the way, has gotten hot as of late after
being kind of down for much of the year. And
then Philadelphia who's obviously red hot now and and and

(01:44:23):
you know, I think Philadelphia will find their way in
the playoffs, but they're gonna be fighting maybe for a
seven seed and not to play in that playing game
or something. So you know, they're gonna have a very
meaningful game there. Yeah, I think it's uh, it's exciting,
but it's also gonna be you know, stressful for fans
at times. Is there's gonna be a lot more table
watching this year, and a lot more you know, kind
of keep an eye on things. And Columbus and they're

(01:44:44):
they're unbelievable. They just keep winning games. I mean they
were they were toast to Miami the other night as
we were kind of keeping an eye on it during
our mats. Are down to nil and I literally blinked
and it was too too, And then I checked the
score again. There's three to two. Columbus was winning, so
they games in hand too. With the way things have
stacked up for them, what's gonna be interesting. They have

(01:45:07):
eleven games left, so two more than Cincinnati, which means
obviously they can make up some points there and trying
to pass the Orange and Blue, but they're still alive
in League Cup. You know who I'm rooting to get
to the final League Cup right now? The Columbus crew, right,
And that sounds that sounds weird, right, don't win it all?

Speaker 3 (01:45:24):
Go do it.

Speaker 8 (01:45:24):
Don't throw rocks through my windows for saying that. But
their schedule being congested could mean they kind of run
out of the team in September. In October, right, and
having to play in these meaningful games for the next
week and a half in a quarterfinal, semifinal, and either
a third place game or a final. So yeah, it's
gonna be It's gonna be interesting to keep an eye
because last year the teams that made the semi final,

(01:45:46):
Because if you make a semifinal, you end up playing
either in the final or third place game, So you
have seven games in these Cup. Those teams didn't do
really well down the home stretch of the season or
the playoffs, and that'll be interesting if that's how it
plays out for Columbus, or to see what happens this weekend,
obviously in their quarterfinal if they go on, but that's
not going to be keeping an eye on because they
certainly have a lot of congestion in their schedule.

Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
Lastly, you mentioned keeping your eye on something. Tommy, seventy
two wins for your Guardians. That's tied for the most
in Major League Baseball. But we know as September creeps closer,
the Ohio Cup still remains for the Cincinnati Reds and
the Cleveland Guardians. Here come the Reds one game under
five hundred, Tommy, Reds are making a push. Guardians sitting
the top of major League Baseball. This has a way

(01:46:29):
of shaping up to be one of the finest Ohio
Cups ever.

Speaker 8 (01:46:32):
Yeah, there's no I mean, what's left to say, Tony?

Speaker 3 (01:46:36):
Yeah, I think that's I think.

Speaker 8 (01:46:37):
You summed it all up properly. But how about can
we talk about my guy, Emmanuel Cossa speak on it
is he Did you see the stat yesterday? It was
out on X about comparing his first four years to
Mario or Rivera's first four years.

Speaker 3 (01:46:50):
Yeah, that's not a terrible list to be put on,
you know.

Speaker 8 (01:46:54):
Mo in many ways not edgar Ravera considered to be
one of the finest closures of all time. Like that's
the numbers are I mean, yeah, almost piecing better for
Class A. And I mean it's an eight inning game
if you're playing the Guardians right now.

Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
Zero point sixty four e ra on the season is
insane in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 8 (01:47:16):
It's like a young Tony at reading high school.

Speaker 3 (01:47:19):
Thank you, Tommy, did you play baseball? Absolutely?

Speaker 8 (01:47:22):
Yes, I thought, man, So that's what reminds you.

Speaker 2 (01:47:25):
Of Yeah, Ohio Cup right around the corner. We've got
a hell is real right around the corner. A lot
of good stuff. Some time off to get healthy, refreshed
and make this stretch run for FC Cincinnati, and happy
to have Tommy g along to help us with it.

Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
Tommy, thank you for your time.

Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
Enjoy a rare weekend off where subsequently you don't get
much time off because you've got a lot to do.

Speaker 8 (01:47:47):
Yeah, plenty to do, but I will enjoy it all.
And then yeah, let's chat next Friday before I get
on the plane to head down to Fort Lardo.

Speaker 3 (01:47:53):
Love it, Tommy, Thank you man, have a great weekend.

Speaker 8 (01:47:56):
You got fellas cheers.

Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
That is Tom Gallada, voice of FC Cincinnati. This is
Sincy three to sixty. Thanks to our friends at Penn Station.
As we roll along here our number three ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 5 (01:48:08):
Good after near here, Nothing.

Speaker 1 (01:48:10):
But got me sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati's Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
Welcome back Cincy three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
Station and a service of Penn Station. A couple quick
updates here Austin. We talked about the Evan McPherson extension earlier.
Getting some notes now on a couple of the injuries
from yesterday. According to Jeremy Fowler, initial belief is that
Deontay Smith will miss the whole twenty twenty four season

(01:48:50):
with a pateeller tendon injury.

Speaker 3 (01:48:51):
Wow, so both of them suffered the same injury.

Speaker 2 (01:48:54):
Chris Evans had the same injury. These happened about ten
minutes apart. Yesterday, today's practice just crazy, crazy bad luck
for the Cincinnati Bengals and Chris Evans being a very
key special teams piece and Deontay Smith a very valuable
backup as it pertains to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 3 (01:49:15):
That's nuts. I just saw John Sheeran, who I hope
all Bengals fans follow. He's one of my favorite follows
on Twitter. He said a little check up on the
twenty twenty one Bengals draft class. Jamar Chase waiting for
an extension. Jackson Carmen, Yeah, Joseph Osi fourth edge of
the depth chart, not really doing much. Cam sample on

(01:49:38):
the IR. Probably done in Cincinnati, Tyler Shelvin hasn't been
here for years, Deontay Smith probably going to IR. Probably
done in Cincinnati. Evan McPherson just got paid, Trey Hill
probably gonna get cut, Chris Evans IR probably done with Cincinnati,
and Wyatt Hubert retired. Unbelievable. Two of those guys and

(01:50:01):
Joseph two of those guys franchise players. Joseph solid player.
Cannot make that up. That's uh.

Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
That's not good for the first draft post. Joe Burrow
not great. A couple of phone calls here. We've had
listeners waiting to talk. Mark has been one of those
what's up, Mark?

Speaker 4 (01:50:20):
Hey, I'm I'm still uh well. I don't recover from
my victory lap yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
Are you are you tired? Are you a little sore
from yesterday?

Speaker 8 (01:50:29):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:50:30):
No, no, no, it wasn't that long victory lap. But
you know how it is how I got it. I
didn't want to. I didn't want to call in another
call in. No flowers today, you know, so I forgured
I called them in yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:50:43):
But let's get right to yes.

Speaker 4 (01:50:47):
Remember when I when I said I was worried about
Chase when I called in, And you know, this was
a couple of weeks ago. And I think this situation
is gonna get bad before it gets better. These these
kinds of situations never never turned out good. So I'm

(01:51:08):
keeping my fingers cross on this one.

Speaker 3 (01:51:10):
Yeah, it's it. It feels like it.

Speaker 2 (01:51:12):
And again we read the reports earlier, and we talked
about Albert Breers' comments on it. It doesn't feel like
a resolution is around the corner by any means, but
who knows. I mean, the Evan McPherson thing kind of
came out of nowhere, so maybe they can get together
and get something done.

Speaker 4 (01:51:29):
Okay, two things. I got a backfield complaint. I don't
I don't think he can play cornerback. He always was
good in the preseason dack sill.

Speaker 35 (01:51:42):
Okay, he couldn't play safety.

Speaker 4 (01:51:45):
Last year and he couldn't and I don't think he
played cornerback. But Mike Houghton's position, I think that was
more of what he played in college. That that Rams
game last year when they had him kind of closer
to the line of scrimmage and they rinched him a
couple of times. I think that's more of his natural position. Yeah,
So to me, I think I think they're out of this.

(01:52:07):
Quit messing around putting him, trying him at other positions, and.

Speaker 35 (01:52:11):
Just put in put him where.

Speaker 4 (01:52:14):
You know he naturally fit set and that I mean,
you drafted him in the first round, got you something
out of him. So that's my take on him. And
then my other take is if if the Denver Broncos
cut some my gp ron bringing back, I'm in favor
of bringing him back. I was never in favor of

(01:52:34):
letting him go, but he signed with Denver, I would
be in favorite in bringing him back. I like him
as they feature running back better than I like who
they have. So I just wanted to make that point.
And we'll see what happens on that one, because I
he to me is more of a closer, like late

(01:52:56):
in the game, you could give it to him, you know,
five six, seven times, then close the game out. He's
that type of running back and I think you need that,
you know, late in the games, when you when you
have the lead. The one of the runner backs they got, now,
I don't think they're built that way. So we'll see
what happens. I'll get off and listen to the market.

Speaker 3 (01:53:16):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:53:17):
Two things there, I don't I don't think p Ryan's
a feature back. I could see him as a positional
backer and then the game back Austin the Dax Hill side,
we've already had this conversation. If it doesn't work at corner,
do you at least try that Mike Hilton roll with
Dax Hill.

Speaker 3 (01:53:32):
I said that at the very beginning, and I thought
that that his his speed is you know, better suited
for that spot. And he has not taken any Nickel
reps to my knowledge. Yeah, and you know, if you
heard Paul Danner Junior with Moe this week, Paul said,
in his years covering the team, he's learned two things,
follow the money and follow the reps. And and Dax

(01:53:54):
Hill has not gotten the reps of the nickel spot.
Josh Newton has done pretty good there, obviously, Mike Hilton's
carved got a career for himself in that spot. Maybe
eventually down the line we see that, but the fact
that we haven't heard any of that so far this
season would suggest that's not something the Bengals are going
to do. Agreed. Although I don't think it's a bad idea.

Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
No, I don't either, It just doesn't feel like that's
what they're going to do. Kenny, what's up?

Speaker 13 (01:54:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:54:18):
This is Rocko.

Speaker 35 (01:54:18):
The follow up call I'm miserable?

Speaker 14 (01:54:20):
Right?

Speaker 15 (01:54:24):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:54:24):
One of many impressions is this mister Bengle well Austin.

Speaker 3 (01:54:30):
This is Tony in Austin. This is since he three sixty.

Speaker 13 (01:54:34):
Huh.

Speaker 35 (01:54:34):
Yeah, that's that's a hard word to say, ben Gal
I E and g A l okay. It said a
form a form of a tiger. It's not even a tiger.

Speaker 3 (01:54:42):
Do you have anything good to say, Kenny? Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:54:46):
TJ.

Speaker 35 (01:54:47):
Friedel bobblehead night. Are you kidding me? It was like
two weeks ago and made an error in the outfield.

Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
He's runs if he played every game, He's been fantastic.

Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
Figure out. Take you a long time to figure out
how to five on three seven before I'm fifteen thirty, Kenny.

Speaker 35 (01:55:03):
No, I got that number memorize, including a lot of
other numbers. I figured out what the Reds are doing.

Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
They're swinging for.

Speaker 35 (01:55:09):
The fences about every time up that little Jonathan India
hits wonder a walled or warning track. They're simply swinging
for the fences.

Speaker 15 (01:55:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
Lead the league in homers the month of August August,
are killing it.

Speaker 35 (01:55:20):
Yeah, and they're also leading the league and getting thrown
out at home.

Speaker 3 (01:55:23):
There you go, all right, Kenny. We gotta get to

What's up? What's on the show today?

Speaker 36 (01:58:23):
Well, you know, I'm just starting to think about Sunday's
in the fall with you and our friend Ken Brew.

Speaker 3 (01:58:27):
Oh man, you know, yeah, I mean that's historic.

Speaker 36 (01:58:30):
It's great that we're here today, But I'm starting to
think about the eighth, nine o'clock in the morning. We're
getting ready for the Bengals and Patriots, and you, me
and Ken are getting fired up for the season. As
for today, first of all, this morning looked gnarly. Right
now it looks gorgeous out downtown Cincinnati. You got Red's Royals.
It's yacht rock night yacht Rock, hot rock, night yot

(01:58:52):
rock at the ballpark tonight. So you know, the Reds
are playing well it's a summer weekend. Contrary to what
little cold public school districts we'll have you believe, it
is still summer, and so there's no better place to
hang out during the summertime, certainly before a Reds game
or after yacht rockton here at the Holy Grail. As
for the show, We've got a great guest today. His

(01:59:13):
name is Tony Pike.

Speaker 3 (01:59:15):
And I heard someone clap? Was there one clap in there?

Speaker 36 (01:59:19):
There was a guy who clapped and then like nobody
else was clapping and stopped that thing where he's like, Okay,
maybe I yes, I shouldn't. Uh, We're gonna look ahead
to tomorrow's big preseason tilt Bengals and Bears.

Speaker 3 (01:59:31):
Yeah, Bengals and Bears. Can the Reds make the playoffs? Oh?
I don't think so. I don't think so either. Well,
I don't think they will.

Speaker 4 (01:59:40):
I think they can.

Speaker 36 (01:59:41):
I mean a lot of stuff would have to happen.
I don't think that they will. I have a concern.
I will express said concern throughout the course of the
next three hours. On top of all the different Bengals
stuff we have to get to today. And uh, there's
something I noticed as it relates to one major professional

(02:00:03):
sports franchise this week that we will get to between
now and six o'clock.

Speaker 2 (02:00:08):
Where do you think the buzz is higher? Mo Is
it here in Cincinnati with the news of Evan McPherson's
contract extension, or would it be in Michigan right now
where Mumford High School has hired Connor Stallions mu Heights.
Mumford High is what it says Mumford High. There's an
article on ESPN dot com Mumford High coach Connor Stallions

(02:00:31):
is a defensive coordinator, which brings more enthusiasm to the city.

Speaker 36 (02:00:34):
Well, I mean, obviously people here are really excited, but
you've got to think if you're a booster, a fan,
a supporter, or a player, faculty member of what is it,
Mumford Mumford High, You've got to think this is a
huge deal. I mean, you've got somebody who's been learning
at the feet of the guy who's been the best
coach in the Big Ten now for a couple of
years in iconic pro and football college pro and college

(02:00:56):
football coach and Jim harbaum Man who won a national championship,
took a team to a Super Bowl, and he is
going to take all those lessons that he learned working
for this iconic coach and apply him to what he's
going to be coaching the defense.

Speaker 3 (02:01:09):
Yes, m, it's really exciting.

Speaker 36 (02:01:12):
Yeah, I mean it's it's it's really huge for for
the the kids there, and it's obviously also huge for
Connor Stallions as he begins the long climb back to
what I have no idea, but he is beginning the
long climb back.

Speaker 2 (02:01:25):
Yeah, let's bring let's begin our climb to uh to
a profitable finish to the week.

Speaker 37 (02:01:31):
Hey, degenerates, it's time for Locked Up the Weekend presented
by Cincy Shirts. Visit the stores in Hyde Park, Lovelin,
or on Dixie Highway in Fort Mitchell and always online
at sincey shirts dot com.

Speaker 3 (02:01:43):
Now let's make you some money.

Speaker 2 (02:01:45):
Well, in all honesty, UH, with what the Bengals. We
will talk a lot about the Bengals, but the match
up alone from a star power standpoint with Bobby Witt
Junior and Ellie de la Cruz is comparable, in your opinion,
to to what for for a recent Reds game.

Speaker 3 (02:02:00):
If we get Hunter Green versus Paul Skins.

Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
Oh Man, true right, I mean the numbers of Bobby
Win are ridiculous. Yeah, what he is doing three forty
nine leading the team in a ton of categories. They
both play the same position.

Speaker 3 (02:02:13):
Wells are pretty good. Yeah, that's good club.

Speaker 2 (02:02:15):
Good baseball team, but from a star power standpoint, should
be awesome at the ballpark this weekend.

Speaker 36 (02:02:21):
Yeah, and you know, I mean if if the Reds
can get two out of three, I mean we're to
the point where they gotta win series, and they got
to win a bunch. But you know, at the very
least by taking care of business against a bad Cardinals team.
Here we enter the what I guess, second to last
weekend of August at least entertaining the possibility.

Speaker 3 (02:02:38):
I think it's gonna be really hard.

Speaker 36 (02:02:40):
You know, this team's gonna still have to play six
hundred baseball the rest of the way. But you know,
I mean we're still you can still look at the
standings and talk yourself into it. I will do so
more if the wins outweigh the losses, which if they
win tonight whin tomorrow, that will be the case. As
for locks of the weekend, though, Tony, you know, we
had a hit last night night with New England and Philadelphia.

(02:03:02):
The under hitt in that game. We told you it was.
Let's flash forward to tomorrow. I think when you look
at some of these games with lines that are over
a field goal, you're looking for a significant depth advantage.
I think Miami has it over Washington. I've got to
LA four and a half points. I will feel comfortable
doing that. I'm also gonna go under. You know, the
Ravens have been preseason beasts for a while, right it

(02:03:23):
was well documented, But in all these preseason games that
they have won over the last five or six years,
usually the under hits Falcons Ravens thirty five and a half.
Preseason numbers are typically low, as you might imagine. I'm
gonna go under thirty five and a half Baltimore Atlanta
in the game the kicks off at noon tomar.

Speaker 2 (02:03:42):
I'm leaning more Atlanta because I want to see more
Michael Pennix Junior. I liked what he saw out of
him in the first outing. Give me the Falcons and
ask for tonight. Dodger's still undecided on their pitcher. I
like Saint Louis Home Dogs plus one twenty five. You know,
they got to get the bad taste out of their
mouth after losing to the Cincinnati Reds three straight. Give
me the Cardinals as a home dog, give me the Falcons,

(02:04:03):
and uh mo, give me an over under on drinks
over the next three hours.

Speaker 36 (02:04:07):
For me or for the folks here you for the
next three hours the over unders one and a half
par for me professional, I mean, we have a show
to do here over.

Speaker 3 (02:04:15):
Under from six till ten tonight for you. Oh boy,
oh boy. I don't know, man, I don't know. I
have a lot to share. Please. The Pittsburgh Pirates are
plus money tonight at home. I don't think they'll lose
eleven games in a row. They've got Paul Skeins pitching
against one of the worst offensive teams in baseball in
the Seattle Mariners. I'll take the Pirates money lot. I

(02:04:37):
love this, I love it. Awesome. We're done, MO, have
a great show. Thank you, Thank you, guys. Have a
great weekend. That's it, We're done. Happy Friday.
