coney today. Feeling good, It's Skyline Time. This is ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good afternoon, Welcome into the latest edition of Cincy three
sixty right here on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station
and a service of our good friends at Skyline Chili,
where anytime you're feeling good and hungry, it is always
Skyline Time. It just so happened to be Austin that
today we had Skyline Scott what they call in the
(00:40):
business a drop. Yes, we had a Skyline drop, and
I am seeing all over my social media feeds right now.
Mowager's down at Fountain Square. Yeah, because I believe they're
trying to set a Guinness World record today. Yeah, they are.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
They're trying to set a Guinness World record I think
for a hashtag usage on Instagram or something along those lines.
And my feed right now is filled with people feeding
themselves cheese conies.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Unbelievable. Yes. Also, they had the coney kits, which is
what was dropped off here today. It's everything you need
to build and serve twenty four cheese conies, including the
Crackers and the York Peppermint patties for your perfect tailgate,
watch party, any fun gathering. Call your local Skyline Chili
to order them. We are thankful for our friends at
(01:26):
Skyline Chili. Let's dive right in to today because well,
much like every day, we have a lot going on
and that's no different. Today we got a lot to
get to with the Cincinnati Bengals. I know, Austin, you
spent more time on the Bengals yesterday. I know you
played the Terry Francona audio. So we won't dive much
(01:47):
into the Cincinnati Reds today, but we do need to
get a lot here on the Bengals, and our number one,
Zach Taylor, will get his audio speaking to the media
today at one o'clock and then as we get into
the final hour of today's show, we'll switch gears to
the Bearcats. As of now, everything going according to plant
(02:09):
in Orlando for uc at UCF on Saturday. We'll continue
to watch that. But Scott Saderfield spoke to the media yesterday,
Wes Miller spoke to the media yesterday. We have both
of those. If we can. We'll get to them. But
we've got a guy that takes care of both for
Bearkat General, and that's Keegan Nickoson, who is going to
join us at two o'clock today, followed by our good
friend Bob man Jean, who will join us right after
(02:32):
that for a Novacare Weekly Injury Update segment. And ACL
seems to be a topic of conversation, both with what
Wes Miller had to say yesterday and obviously Dax Hill
for the Cincinnati Bengals. Your talkbacks, we'll be here in
hour number two along the phone calls all throughout the
afternoon five to one to three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
(02:56):
WNBA finals are said Austin. The links from Minnesota against
the New York Liberty starts tomorrow night. Yes, hockey is underway. Yes,
the NHL is underway. And Utah, who just got their
expansion team. They won last night. That's unfortunate against my Chicago. Yeah,
but the scenes in Utah were incredible.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
I'm confused about the Utah Hockey Club. Why are they
the Utah Hockey Club because I thought there was a
whole big thing where they were gonna be like the
Utah YETI or something like that. I do not follow
the NHL closely enough to understand what is going on,
but I wasn't there a.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Time where there was like voting happening on all the
mascot names. Yeah, yeah, what happened to that?
Speaker 4 (03:34):
You know?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I did not like the Washington football team for a
while here with the ind the NFL, and then it
started to grow on me and I could kind of
live with it. I don't think Utah Hockey Club with
just a circular patch that says Utah Hockey Club. I
don't UHC would look better than just Utah. They need
(03:58):
a little bit more of a brand identity. And I'm
pleading ignorance on this. I don't quite understand how it works,
but I found it uncomfortable watching that. It felt like
it was some something out of a movie. Yeah, or
it was some sort of preseason matchup. But Connor Bedard
could not lead to Blackhawks to victory in Utah. Man,
just these scenes there, it does incredible.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
I did notice though they sell half price like this
kind of tickets were in your seat, you can only
see one of the goals. Oh just see that? Yeah,
like you can only you can't see both goalies from
the seat. So and this is a new arena. Yeah,
I don't know what's going on in jazz play. Yeah,
you gotta figure that out.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
I know there's like some old seats like that at
like Ohio Stadium and Wrigley Field. There's really old places
that have obstructed views.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, we'll dive into more about Ohio State tomorrow because
we're gonna look at a loaded college football slate. But also,
how can we not start a show and tip our capital.
What's continuing to go on in the Major League Baseball playoffs? Man,
there's so much fun. And I know we continue to
say the same thing out him, But yesterday watching the
(05:03):
Mets pound out seven runs and watching Frank the Tank
be there in person, and watching Jesse Winker hit an
absolute bomb, and he sat there and pimped and then
he pimped out his grills after the game in his
postgame interview, Mets have the Phillies on the brink of elimination,
and you want to talk about a fun series. Dodgers
Padres right now, Padres jumped out to a six to
(05:25):
one lead. Fernando Tatis Junior is the hottest hitter on
the face of the earth right now. But Taskar Hernandez
hit a grand Slam to make it six to five.
And do you know what I've noticed to be a
theme Austin as we look to rebuild the Reds in
the offseason?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Here, what have you noticed to be a theme as
we look to rebuild the Reds in the offseason.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Every one of these teams when they bring guys out
of the bullpen, they are lockdown guys. I mean it
felt like innings five through nine flew by in La
with San Diego in La last night, every guy that
came out of the bullpen, it's like one point eight
two point two. We are right. Every bullpen I watch
is elite in the playoffs and yet in the in
(06:04):
the offseasons, like we got to get starting pitching, you
gotta get power bats, just get a really good freaking bullpen. Dude,
I will tell you what.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
It's got to be an awesome feeling for a reliever
coming out of the bullpen in a playoff game. Yeah,
Like it's a little bit different than a game on
June seventeenth than it is on October eighth. Yes, with
two guys on and two outs in your season, essentially
on the line in different area like the The adrenaline
(06:34):
has got to be insane for these dudes, and I
bet that makes some pitch even better. And in some
cases lets him throw meatballs over the plate that get
deposited into the cheap seats.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
In San Diego Guardians Tigers Game three, that game, that
series tied one. After the home game for the Tigs today,
Scooball was fantastic as advertised. Philly's Mets. That's an elimination opportunity.
Mets have them at home in Game four Yankees Royals,
what's a really good series as well? One star has
shown up, one has not. I'll tell you what. Bobby
(07:04):
Wood Junior has shown up. Aaron Judges is nowhere to
be found again so far in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
You talked about this prior to that series, the bright
lights of the playoffs in the Big Apple. For Bobby
Witt Junior, How's he going to respond? And then on
the other side, Aaron Judge, who had an unbelievable season
I believe is the all time leader in strikeout rate
in Major League Baseball postseason history. Oh no, the lights
is too bright, that's what they're saying. And the finale
(07:32):
this evening. So you get four games of playoff baseball
kicking off at three oh eight. The final kicks off
at nine o eight. That's Dodgers Padres again, Dylan Cees.
One of those mid season acquisitions that the Padres are.
They put up on the screen last night, the Padres
additions throughout the season. I mean, they just crushed the Marlins. Oh,
(07:52):
they took everyone from the Marlins, every good reliever, Luisa Rise.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
It was unbelievable. But I have a chance to close
it out.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
How about the fact, well that the Dodgers spent upwards
of a billion dollars this offseason and they are going
with a bullpen game tonight. They are having an opener,
and they spend a billion dollars in a in a
game where they have to win, in a game that
they have to win, it's a bullpen game.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Unbelievable. Crazy. Other news, Uh, the Patriots are turning to
Drake May Derek Carr right now dealing with an oblique injury.
Nico Collins is going on the IR with a hamstring injury,
and uh, oddly enough, I can't figure this out, and
I can't figure out why and what has happened to him.
(08:44):
Devin White got released today. Yeah, there was a time
Austin in Tampa that I thought Devin White was going
to be the next top linebacker in football. He was
inactive in the first four games for the Eagles and
is now being released. I mean, do you remember him
at his peak with Tampa. He was all over the field.
(09:05):
He's only twenty six years old. He's made an All
Rookie team, He's been a Pro Bowler. I just I'm
shocked that he has not worked out in Philly because
I thought Philly had stolen has played a game for
the Eagles this season. Crazy. Lastly, the firing of Robert
Sala yesterday. I know you probably talked about it. Have
(09:27):
you seen, like now, the conversation that is going on
that it was supposed to be or Salo is having
the conversation that he was going to move on from
Hackett calling the place because Salah's a defensive guy and
their defense has been really good. And somewhere along the line,
I'm not going to point any fingers, someone did not
want Hackett to lose his job as to play caller,
(09:49):
and instead it's Robert Sala who loses his job as
the head coach. Uh, yeah, he's gonna make a lot
of money. Robert Sala Yeah maybe no, I mean, like
right by getting fired. Oh yeah. I just.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
The novelty of Aaron Rodgers has really worn off, yep.
And he hasn't played very well this year, and I
have a hard time believing that he's going to play
well next year, if he plays at all next year.
Nathaniel Hackett, I do not believe to be a good
football coach, and Rogers protecting him. Who knows if that's
really how it went down, but I wouldn't be surprised
(10:27):
if that's how it went down that Salah was gonna
change that up.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
And he's the head coach. He has the right to
do that.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
And I think it goes to show that Aaron Rodgers
is calling the shots. I heard someone earlier compare Rogers
basically the Lebron James as if he's the guy who
calls the shots for the organization, and I think that's
kind of true.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Yeah, Lebron at least wins a little bit more. I
know he was a defensive guy. Since twenty twenty one,
since they hired him, they've been first in points per drive, first,
and EPA per play third and success rate. He's brought
a good defense to New York, has not figured out
the offensive side of the ball. But it's just it's
insane to me. Like we were doing the show at
(11:08):
the Holy Grail on Sunday and just watching Aaron Rodgers
body language and the first it looked like he'd wanted
no part of being there, Like, how can you get
around that body language? And I've looked at it enough.
If you are wanting this to work with the Jets
and you are Nathaniel Hackett system, it's been seeing, you
(11:29):
have to have two really good receivers. Yeah, they have
to get Davante Adams. They have to if you're not
going to work under Nathaniel Hackett. And what I the
money Robert Salaz making after getting fired. He's getting twenty
thousand per day if for the next two years, if
you're DeVante Adams, why do you want to go into
(11:50):
that situation? Correct? I agree? I agree to that as well. Yeah,
and I can see that side of it. But at
the same time, it's just what a fire that has
become on a team that has drawn so much, so much,
And I know that hard knocks brings a lot to
the table as well, but very interesting to watch for
(12:10):
it as it relates to the Bengals. If you're looking
for the Bengals to add at the deadline, when the
deadline comes, which position is your top priority? We could
do the blame thing again because another week has gone
by as it Zach Taylor's atlu An Aumo is at
the front office. I thought Mina Chimes sounding off on
the Bengals was eye opening. And it doesn't sound like
(12:33):
the Bengals are going to be taking her advice, at
least not in the cornerback room. And we do have
to do this because at some point Austin Sunday has
passed and that gives us Sunday and Monday to grieve
and you know, Tuesday to try to recover. And now
today let's find if there is a path forward. But
the path forward gets increasingly difficult because of yes, the
(12:57):
Giants defense on night. Have you seen this havoc stat
Austin around defenses in the NFL. Uh Oh? So the
havoc stat is essentially pressure that defense is put on
opposing offenses. So this is the rates of plays that
(13:18):
result in sacks, force, fumbles, interceptions, tackles for loss or
pass breakups. Any guess where the Bengals fall on the
havoc meter?
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Probably thirty second, thirty two? Okay, you want to take
a stab at where the Giants defense falls on the
havoc meter?
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Two? One? Oh. They are the best team in all
of the National Football League and essentially creating havoc on
the defensive side of the ball. You want to talk
about something to watch? How about this Bengals offense versut
that Giants? Yes, that Giants defense should be fascinating. And
(13:54):
I don't know if you did it or not yesterday, Austin,
but I'll ask it because Jesse Bates and I pulled
up for context Kelsey Conway's tweet that happened. She tweeted
about a week ago that Jesse Bates is a walking
reminder that if you draft a star, even at a
(14:14):
position that's not quarterback, wide receiver d n you don't
let that star leave the building. Players make the difference.
We have now for years since he departed, Austin, whether
it was free agency or the draft, tried to fill
the void left from Jesse Bates. Would you for years,
and I think would you argue that it's been a failure.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Yeah, you've also said samething about Andrew Whitworth for a while.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Correct. Now here's the problem. I would say it's been
a failure. Here's the problem. When the decision was made
to move on from Jesse Bates, what was the reasoning, Well,
you can't pay Jesse Bates and then pay T. Higgins
and Jamar Chase. So the Bengals moved on from Baits,
which what we thought was the signaling that they were
going to make something to work with Higgins and Chase.
(14:57):
You have failed to pay T. Higgins, You failed in
round one to pay Jamar Chase. A lot of pressure
now turns to the ownership group of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Have these last couple weeks, Austin, have they changed your
thought process that the Bengals need to try to do
something to keep T. Higgins? Could you make that argument
(15:19):
at this point? And I know it's a smaller sample
size because it's only a couple games in and they
historically start slow. Right now, this year, points per game
without T. Higgins seventeen and a half points per game
with T. Higgins thirty five. Jamar Chase had ninety seven
yards receiving no touchdowns without T. Higgins. He's up to
three ninety six and five touchdowns with T. Higgins. I
know it's a smaller sample size, but the failures on
(15:41):
defense and how good this offense has been. Are you
trying to find a way to sign T. Higgins or
is that ship sailed?
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (15:48):
No, because of the guys that they have drafted and
the way that the offense has changed this year. More
emphasis on tight end, better running game, Jermaine Burton in
the wings. Andre Yoshi vas has made a play. Wide
receivers are easy to find in the draft. Defense is
always going to be more important without T. Higgins, this
(16:10):
team will need to adjust offensively. They have done a
good job at adjusting offensively over the course of the
last several years. They've been top ten in scoring offense
three times. They were sixteenth in the NFL last year,
and that was without Burrow for a good chunk of
the season. They find ways to adapt when pieces are missing.
(16:31):
To me, defense is more important, especially when you're able
to get multiple players at the price tag it would
take to get T. Higgins for an extended amount of time.
I will trust Joe Burrow in the offense to figure
it out.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yeah, a lot to get to and before we do,
go to break with everything Florida is going through right now.
As someone who countless memories and years of my life
for vacations, that's where we always went, CS to Key Sarasota.
My family has vacation there. I can even remember. Definitely
thinking about the folks. I know we have listeners that
(17:05):
listen in Florida. I know we have listeners that go
to the Docktory deck and call in when they're in Florida.
I know it's a vacation spot for a lot of
folks that live in this area as well. And certainly
today and tomorrow and everything that's already happened in the
last couple of weeks, our thoughts are are squarely with
those in Florida as they get ready for Hurricane Milton
as well. With that being said, let's break, let's come back,
(17:29):
let's dive into more on the Cincinnati Bengals. We'll take
some of your phone calls as well as we move ahead.
Our number one of since he three sixty on the
Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Hey Alexa, who got traded getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.

Speaker 7 (19:00):
He's football Inninnetti, brought to you in part by a
door and window company on the official home of the
Bengals Cincinnatis, ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
All Right, welcome back football in the NATI since three sixty,
a service of Skyline Chili. On the home of the Bengals,
ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati Sports Station. ESPN's Mina Kimes said
this about the Cincinnati Bengals one and four start, which
features Joe Burrow playing at an MVP level. Criticism from
(19:34):
Mina Chimes said this quote, that's embarrassing. Your quarterback and
wide receivers are playing some of the best football of
their entire careers, but the organization has let them down.
I'm not writing them off because the offense has been
that good, but they have to be aggressive about improving
this defense before the season becomes a lost one. That
is Mina Chimes of ESPN and her comments on the
(19:57):
Cincinnati Bengals. Now, it doesn't appear, at least if you
read between the lines right now, that that's going to
be the case in the secondary, which lost Dax Hill.
This from Jeff Hobson of Bengals dot Com. Bengals coaches,
according to Jeff, have talked highly about corner Josh Newton,
(20:18):
rookie safety Dijon Anthony, and they've also talked highly about
the impending return for dj Ivy, said cornerback coach Charles Burkes.
The arrow was pointing up and he was getting momentum.
We need him. It shows how valuable Dax is. We
need multiple players to replace him, but we've got the talent.
So my question is very simple. If Mina Kimes is
(20:44):
calling you out on national TV and you have right
now arguably arguably a quarterback in Joe Burrow, and I
guess you could say as the best one and four
quarterback in the history of the NFL, highest complete a
percentage and passer rating by a QB to start it
(21:05):
on a team that is one in four since nineteen fifty.
Joe Burrow is also the third quarterback in NFL history
to have a losing record while throwing at least twelve
touchdowns and completing seventy percent of his passes. And Joe
Burrow is the second in the entire NFL and QBR
with a rating of seventy three point six. Joe Burrow
(21:26):
has been awesome. The offense has been awesome. We know
about the struggles of the defense. Here is this team
at one and four, and here Austin is Mina Kaim
saying you have got to do something defensively before the
season becomes lost. You'll already have folks that say the
season is lost. But if you're one of those holding
out hope, that the season is not yet lost. And
(21:49):
if you're one of those holding out hope, you're not
the only one. Others has said that as well. Mike Florio,
who we talk about a lot on this show from
Pro Football Focus, isn't counting them out. In a recent
video with Devin mccordy, Florio actually predicts the Bengals will
go on a four win tear over the upcoming schedule
and get themselves back over five hundred. At five and four.
(22:13):
So if you're one of those that believes this can
be turned around based on the schedule going forward, and
we just outlined the challenges that this defense in New
York will present present. But here's Mina Kaim saying something.
Florio's saying. It's not done yet, but there has to
be an emphasis on the defensive side of the ball.
Do you think it's the right approach, Austin, to say, hey,
(22:35):
we've got two or three guys that can make up
for the loss of Dax Hill. Is that the right
approach when your defense has been this bad and you
lost one of the guys that has performed the best.
Is it the right way to take this one and
four start to say we've got Newton, We've got Anthony,
We've got Ivy, and the combination of those guys will
(22:57):
be enough.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
I don't know if there is a choice for them
to go out and get somebody that's going to be
a game changer for them. I don't know that that
player exists. I always think that sitting back and letting
things come to you is the wrong way to do it.
(23:22):
We saw them with a bunch of injuries to the
defensive line try to replace them with guys off the street, literally,
guys off the street. Lawrence guy, he's stunk. Zach Carter
was bad. Like the players in the building weren't good.
They tried to go outside the building and get the
best available they could. They weren't good either. So at
(23:44):
some point you do have to rely on the young
players that you've drafted and that have been with you
since April to step up and make plays. Who are
they going to get that is going to come in
and fill the role of Dax Hill better than who's
currently on the team.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
What's the biggest need? If you could make one move
on defense, what's the biggest need? Pass rush?
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yeah, I'd go trade for Chris Jones. Yeah, yeah, I
mean that's not Crosby. Yeah, that's the number one thing.
You got to have people that can get after the quarterback.
That makes life a lot easier on those defensive backs.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
And you know, I think that's going to be a
big part, especially against the Giants this week, is when
you're going to be missing Dax Hill in the backfield.
The defensive backfield, you got to be able to get
after the quarterback more often. Don't force those guys to
cover for a long time. Don't let those deeper developing
route concepts to come into play. Get after the quarterback
(24:39):
throw off. That timing help the defensive backs out a
little bit. That's why we have seen some struggles from
them this year is because the pass rush isn't getting home.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
To the point you made or you're making their tenth
in the NFL against the run, and I think that
with bj Hill and Rankins getting healthy, I think they'll
be okay against the run. But they're second to last
in pass rush. Yeah, And I don't care if it's
Durell Reeves and Deon Sanders in their prime. You're asking
guys to cover too long by not getting after the passer.
(25:08):
You have got to get after the quarterback in the
NFL today, and if you can't, you are not going
to stop anyone. And that to me is the most
maddening part about this, because you know, I'm I'm trying
to make a path forward and get I get what
everyone's saying, right, Giants, Browns, Eagles, Raiders winnable. Especially with
(25:29):
the Eagles and Raiders here, wasn't New England winnable, wasn't
Washington winnable, wasn't Kansas City there for the taking. Wasn't
Baltimore right there for the taking? What is it about
the way the team has played through five games that that, Yes,
I get that the schedule's favorable. What makes you think
they're gonna go win four in a row again when
they haven't been able to take care of teams that
(25:50):
aren't as good as them. Like, I want to find
the path forward, and I know it starts on the
offensive side of the ball, but if you can't find
ways to get after the quarterback and lu An Arumo
tried Austin he blits forty one freaking times on Sunday
and it seems to me like that was a play
out of desperation, right, Like how many times forty one
(26:15):
times against one of the best quarterbacks against the Blitz
because he can extend the play?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Yeah, Like, and it seems like none of the buttons
that they are pressing are working, and you're gonna be
in a similar situation on Sunday night. I mean, Daniel
Jones is just as athletic and the ability to move
outside the pocket. He has great speed and he's able
to avoid pass rushers. Now, he's not as athletic as
Lamar Jackson, But when it comes to NFL quarterbacks, Daniel
(26:40):
Jones is among the most athletic, and so his decision
making doesn't always equate to the elite of the elite,
so maybe you're more apt to confuse him. But I
felt like the Bengals put a lot of stuff on
tape this week that you know New York's gonna have
to prepare for, and maybe that's a good thing. And
I felt like at times, again it's Baltimore. I don't
(27:00):
know the advanced stats, but I feel like at times
against Baltimore you were seeing the middle of the pocket
affected and I thought a big part of that was
BJ Hill. I thought bj played a great game. The
thing about Lamar is he's just so good outside the pocket,
and he's so good at being able to escape. So
you've got to be able to put together a defense
that either if you're gonna blitz that many times, you
(27:22):
get home sooner so you come up with better blitzes,
or you're going to drop some coverage and force Daniel
Jones to sit there with the ball, or find a
way to get contain him within the pocket and get
push from the interior of the defensive line that's gonna
be a big part of this game on Wednesday. It's
something they didn't do a good enough job, haven't done
(27:44):
a good enough job of all season long. And with
the athleticism of Daniel Jones and his ability to extend plays,
it's asking a lot of the defensive line. It's asking
a lot of the defensive backfield as well, especially with
Myleik Neighbors and Wandel Robinson, who are both very fast,
very shifty. We'll get more to the challenge of the
(28:05):
Giants as we go this week. For now, let's break,
let's come back, and we'll introduce your phone calls DJ
and more five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty
at since E three sixty on the Hole of the
Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
You've been listening to football in Minetti on the official
home of the Bengals, Cincinnatis, ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 8 (28:27):
Now your chance to win one thousand dollars entered this
nationwide keyword on our website.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Phil's that's Bill.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio one.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Winker hits a high drive white field toward the poll.
It is gone.
Speaker 6 (28:47):
Second tax shot Jesse Winker two, nothing that's in up?
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Fourth? Wantit? He turn on that fun fun stuff baseball.
Mett's got a chance to close it out. Yes, that's
Jesse Winker playing for the Mets. Had a couple of
big moments in that series against the Brewers, picking up
right where he left off. He is. I was watching
this yesterday and I'm a fan because he was here.
(29:14):
If you've never like rooted for a team with Jesse
Winker on, or he's not on the team you root for,
he's probably one of those players you can't stand. Yeah,
you probably hate his guts, you know, Yeah, But uh man,
it's fun with that guy's on your team.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
That is WHSQ eight eighty, the New York Mets radio
network shut out to the Mets.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Man shout out to the New York Mets, who at
one point this year were like eleven games under five hundred.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
I you know, I said to I was talking to
Lance McAllister yesterday and I was like, you know, I
I don't really know why, but I find myself really
rooting for the Mets. Like the two teams I'm rooting
for the most are the exact opposite the eighteen million
dollar Tigers in the three hundred million dollar Mets. But
I just I find the Mets likable. I find the
(29:56):
Tigers likable. And that's kind of what I hope the
the World Series comes down to.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
We made picks at the beginning, well, David and Goliath
type thing. If they eat in the World Series. If
you had to pick now, based on how they're playing,
which two teams make the World Series? I would say
the Padres.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Yep, and Al's up in the air. For me, the
Al is up in the air. I would say the
Padres and the Guardians just because they trust their bullpen.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Okay, Padres are at the top for me. Just still
the feeling the Yankees can get hot. But I don't
know it is a It's much more. I feel like
loaded with the NL right now, with the Phillies, Dodgers
and Padres and there you have the Mets, who you
just mentioned.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Jamar Chase has just posted a tweet. Oh you ready
for this?
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Let's go. How I get fined for not doing nothing? Gee?
Oh no, oh, now he's getting fined. Uh oh. Come
to find out, I don't know what he's been fine for.
They find him for not going postal that the ball
didn't get thrown to him on first and ten after
the platform recovery.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
You just walk in and hand your letter from the
office to Zach Taylor. M you're being fined for not
making a bigger deal out of this. How I get
fine for not doing nothing? Gee, that's what I want
to know. Man, Love jamar Cha Bler wondering, love that guy.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
What's up? DJ? Calling in? What's up? DJ?
Speaker 6 (31:18):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (31:20):
And guys, you guys are killing me today. So the defense,
the defense was a problem last year. They I think
focused on them in the off season and it's worse
this year. And then I know that the discussions, then
you know who to blame, front office or coaching staff.
So when we say front office, I know Duke Tobin's
(31:42):
name is there. Who else in the front officer are
we talking about?
Speaker 2 (31:45):
That's a good question. The scouting department, because they they've
not hit on enough draft picks. The scouting department is
also I think in charge of as the season goes on,
compiling notes and targets to watch of upcoming free agents
and things of that. So I would put that on
the scouting department as well.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
And Mike Potts is the director, the scouting director, and
then Steven Radissevic is the pro scouting directors College and
pro those.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Two gals and whoever is setting the overall budget, like, hey,
this is how much money you have to go spend.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
Okay, so so let's let's go with that because that
helps me. So, you know, I heard Duke Tobin's name,
and I would say, you know, the bend was getting
knocked for they don't they're cheap and all this, and
so in that case, I'd say, well, they clearly, and
I think Austin hit this yesterday. We don't have the
staff on that side like under other teams do, so
so I get that. I still think it's largely a
(32:39):
coaching staff thing because I can't believe, you know, Duke
Tobn's going, hey, I went to the NFL store today
and here's the guys I got for you.
Speaker 9 (32:47):
And do make them play.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
I gotta believe Zach and his coaching staff are saying, yeah,
we we like these guys, we think we can make them.
But when you've got a franchise quarterback on defense, you've
got to build, like case he did with free eight
and limited free agents, but mostly draft. We have been
historically bad on the defensive side of the ball there,
(33:09):
and I don't under I believe the coaching staff doesn't
know what they're doing on that side of the ball.
And I mean we if you look at the free
agent's Nick Scott, Geno Stone, Von Bell, Shall, Rankins, Lawrence, Guy, whatever,
all these guys come in and they're just they're just
guys or past their prime. It's like, how could we
be missing that badly?
Speaker 8 (33:29):
Or is Zach and Lou that.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Bad at coaching guys up or identifying talent. I mean,
it's just abysmal how bad it is. And it is
not going to get any better until they figure that out.
Because I say, you look at Joe and go, Joe,
you got the offense. You can elevate the offense and
you know he's got Chase and he's got to be
blocked for But the defensive side of the ball, Joe
can't elevate that. And for why we're missing that? That
(33:56):
is the million dollar question.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Yeah, I think it's one that we don't have the
answer to as well. DJ I appreciate the phone call
it Austin. In a way, it feels like how the
Reds have approached free agency in the last couple of
years of kind of guys that you just buy, maybe
a little low, and you buy on upside and you
hope that they either revive their career or you hope
(34:20):
that they either find this lightning in the bottle instead
of just maybe paying the extra for the proven guy
that you know what you're getting. But I agree it's
hard because you know, on paper, it's like Sheldon Rankins B. J. Hill.
And again, at the time, I think you thought Hubbard
and Osai were going to be much better and you'd
have Murphy to rotate in there. So it is a
(34:41):
little bit of that. But you know, now that I
look at it, how strange is the von Bell thing
because years ago they moved on from him because they
probably thought he was out of his prime and wasn't
worth reupping. And then you go back and you buy
back in and he's your starting safety now, Like its
just some of the decisions just don't make sense in
what they've done on the defensive side of the ball. Yeah,
(35:02):
I mean, if you look at back, Jermaine prot to
be a three down backer and he's not a three
down back.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
If you look at at Vaughan. His last year with
the Bengals, his PFF grade was sixty six. Last year
with Carolina, which was a bad football team, his PFF
grade was sixty three, So it's not that big of
a difference. This year he's at a fifty seven point four,
so a significant step back. It's this mixed bag of like, okay, well,
Joseph Oside never really developed into the guy you wanted
(35:28):
him to be, and you know, Sam Hubbard had turned
a corner, it felt like, and was somebody who was
really good. And bj Hill was a guy that they
traded for young and has continued to get better. And
that's a good thing. But you don't really have a
lot of that on the defensive line. And you know,
it's funny, every time the offensive line plays badly, everybody's
calling for Frank Pollock's job. But how many times does
(35:49):
Marion Hobby get brought up the defensive line coach. There's
some people hearing that name right now. I've never heard
that name before. How about Jordan Kovacs, the safety's coach?
Because the safety position has been an absolute nightmare for
two years in a row. And that's what guys you
drafted and guys you've signed, So when does he start
to come under fire? What about Charles Burke's the cornerbacks
coach guys that never get brought up? I mean, I
(36:12):
think coaching is is it's fair that there is pressure
on that part of this organization because you can't fire
all the players. So clearly there is some sort of
evaluation that needs to be done in the way that
they are coaching this because it's not working. Do I
think lou Ana Rumo is gonna get fired?
Speaker 10 (36:29):
No?
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Do I think Zach Taylor's gonna get fired? No? No,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
But it's at this point when you're one and four
and you are putting up historically bad numbers. Part of
it is absolutely on the actual players you have not
being that good. And the other part of it is
are we not doing a good enough job coaching them
and preparing them for what we're asking them to do?
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Sure, and all of that's all of that's fair. So again,
I don't know what the fix is. I don't know
what the answer is. It's it's just not good enough
and it's got to check.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
I think they've had some more turnover on that side
of the ball in terms of coaching than the others recently.
I mean, I know Mark Duffner is still there, but
you know, linebackers coach has moved on Al Golden. I
think he's de coordinator at Notre Dame now, right, and
he was their linebackers coach for the development of Jermaine
(37:21):
Pratt and Logan Wilson. I know Charles Burks is relatively new,
only been there for a couple of years, so you
know that sort of stuff. I know Marion Hobby is
maybe the second or third d line coach over the
last five years, so that that sort of stuff happens,
and you know, it's maybe that's a big part of it.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
I just I don't know if we truly can can
put the finger on what's one thing. I just feel
like the way that things have gotten to this point,
it's more than one thing that has gone wrong, right,
I mean, it's it is a a plethora of things
that has gone wrong that leads you to this point
of inadequate. See on the defensive side of the ball,
(38:01):
where you're one of the worst in all of football
now in a in a category which let's face it,
here Austin a couple of years ago damn near carries
you to a Super Bowl, right, I mean, damn near.
It wasn't you know that that year that that the Bengals,
you know, came up close. It wasn't like the offense dominated.
(38:22):
The defense made play after play after play over the
course of the playoffs. So it's not like that side
of the ball has been vacant forever. You know, It's
it's been a strength for this team at some point.
It's just not a strength now and it needs to
be figured out. Rob is also calling in. What's up, Rob,
(38:47):
I'm doing excellent.
Speaker 11 (38:48):
I just had a quick statement that I want you
guys to elaborate on the four So last month, Adam Seffner,
I know how you feel about Adam Tony, but Adam
Seffner tweeted the highest paid quarterback in the NFL on
a per year basis number one. Dak Prescott, Joe Burrow,
Jordan Loves, Trevor Lawrence Tua, Jared Golf, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson,
(39:12):
and Jalen Hursts. Now, when I look at this list,
I do not see Patrick Mahomes on here. He is
hands down the best quarterback in the league. He's going
for a back to back to back. Now, when you
look more at the names on this list, no one
on this list has a Super Bowl ring. Now, numbers
are numbers, and numbers don't lie. I don't know what
(39:32):
that's telling me, but I think it's telling me something.
What do you guys get from that?
Speaker 3 (39:37):
It means the chief structure their contracts a lot differently.
And most of Mahomes' money comes in roster bonuses, signing bonuses,
practice and workout bonuses and stuff like that. That doesn't
count as much against the cap and the way that
they did that, and Mahomes has restructured his contract a
couple of different times.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
And it's also teams that have found ways to in
the draft and to build that way and rely heavily
on the scheme of what they do. I know we
want to tie into that and those numbers that can
jump out. I'm just this this has gotten here because
of a magnitude and a multitude of issues that are
(40:21):
now all coming to the light at the same time.
That's what's created this problem, and it doesn't feel like
the problem's going away with how they've built this. We'll
take more of that. We'll try to get another phone
call or too before the end of the hour, and
then Zach Taylor speaks to the media. We'll hear that
at one o'clock as we get ready to kick off
our number two of since e three to sixty on
the Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
(40:43):
a service of Skyline.
Speaker 12 (40:44):
Chile ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati, Available everywhere with the iHeartRadio
app Yeah number one for podcasting ESPN fifteen thirty and
iHeartRadio station.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
Thirty Welcome back since E three to sixty ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. A couple of minutes here and
we'll move on to our number two, where Zach Taylor
(42:05):
will kick things off his weekly Bangled press conference midweek,
closing the book on the Baltimore Ravens and looking ahead
to the New York Giants, who we'll spend more of
tomorrow discussing. But since we have a minute or so
before we need to get to break, let's take one
final phone called Joe is calling in. What's up? Joe?
Speaker 13 (42:26):
Hey, guys, Hey, real quick. So some guys I just
discovered on Twitter last year, Great Iron Grays. I think
you're both probably familiar with them, and they go off
production scores and I have dumb found it since I've
been following them, that the Bengals draft players that have low,
very low production in college. So let me ask you,
this is the NFL at a much higher level than college.
(42:50):
We agree that it is correct. Yeah, so if they
can't produce in college, what why would you think that
they're going to be productive in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (43:01):
I think that's.
Speaker 9 (43:03):
Greats.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
Yeah, I'm familiar with them a lot lately. I don't
know much about them or their process. I don't know
anything about them.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
I just I look at it in a sense of
that they have the Bengals have made this philosophical decision
that they value a little more than probably anything else,
what players are able to do, from are they on
winning teams, where they captains, what type of character. I
(43:34):
think those things have been valued more over the last
couple of years. And whether you think that's right or wrong,
I just feel like that's the direction. That's the shift
that the Bengals have made on that side of the ball,
especially on the defensive side of the ball, and who
they're bringing in. But again, when you start the way
you have, eventually you have got to look at how
(43:54):
you do things.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
I think to answer your question, Joe, I think if
you would ask anybody in in talent evaluation across the NFL,
they would tell you that production and success in college
doesn't necessarily translate to a production or success in the NFL.
They're going based off the athleticism, They're going based off
(44:16):
of their you know, numbers, age, that sort of stuff,
and what specifically they were asked to do in the
system that they were in college and how that translates.
Speaker 13 (44:28):
Right. So I've seen them actually on a couple of podcasts.
I'd love to have you guys on them, and so
they talk about that, but their ship rate is unreal.
I mean they're talking about Mikaylee Jackson had lower production
scores than Tyler Shelbyn for crying out loud, let that
sink in.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (44:44):
Look I I and I mean Zach Carter. I mean,
they had the guys that they're flopping on. I mean,
and they have it all charted out, so it's not
like they're just making it up. I mean, all these
defensive players, they're like, we had them as undraftable.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (44:57):
And so like to your point, Tony, You're like, well,
they want captains and leadership. I'm like, I want football players.
I don't want them to be jerks. Sure give me
football players.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, you know,
regardless of the stance that they have taken or or
the ideal the ideology of of how they're drafting. What's
one thing I know right now is what they've done
is not good enough. And whether that's in season or
after the season, they have to take a good, hard,
long look at how they go through these evaluation processes
(45:29):
and and find a way now that is going to
to to give bigger benefits than what we've seen them
come up with up to this point.
Speaker 13 (45:37):
Tony, as a former player, the players, you guys know
who the players that aren't good are, don't you.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Well, yeah, I mean in the locker room, there are
trust me, there are conversational treatment, don't you. Yeah, there
are conversations around you know, why why is maybe this
guy on the team, or how did this guy get
a spot on the team for somebody that happens?
Speaker 13 (46:01):
Yes, okay, hey guys, you guys are awesome. And by
the way, you guys are probably some of the best
interviewers that I know and put Charlie net Hey, guys,
you guys do an incredible job, so I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
Thank you, guys, Jo, I appreciate that. Have a good one.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
A couple of pieces of information as it pertains to
the Bengals and it pertains to their matchup coming up
this weekend. The Bengals have cleared cornerback dj Ivy to practice,
so talking about.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
What that means.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
And then on top of that, the Los Angeles or
the New York Giants and their top pass rusher Cavon Thibodeau.
He suffered a fractured scaffioid bone in his wrist and
had surgery to repair it today. Coach Brian Dable described
him as week to week. So if he had surgery today,
I feel like it would be hard to imagine him
(46:50):
playing on Sunday night, correct, But we'll see how that goes. Okay,
more to watch for as it pertains to those New
York Giants, which I'm sure we'll hear coach Zach Taylor
talk about in his weekly press conference. That will bring
to you at the start of our number two when
we return thanks to Skyline Chili. This is since he
three to sixty on the Home of the Bengals ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

The football season is well underway, but perhaps, like your
favorite team, your tailgates are underperforming. Maybe it's because you
haven't visited the Ohio Barbecue Store yet. They are located
right there on Beachmont Avenue seven six ' nine one
Beachmnt Avenue. They have a knowledge of smoking and grilling
in house that is second to none. They do classes
where you can learn how to become a master of
(47:49):
your grill, and the quality of the products in their
building is second to none. Whether you need a new smoker,
you need a new grill, all different price points available,
or maybe you just need some rubs or spices, sauces, pellets,
whatever you may need, they have it all right there
for you in store. It's the Ohio Barbecue Store. Get
(48:09):
your tailgate back up to the winning caliber that you're
expected to perform at at the Ohio Barbecue Store.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
I was rear ended on my This Is Cincy Shirts
Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part
by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts All Cincy, all Day. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Welcome back our number two, thanks to our friends at
Cincy Sharts on the Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. Speaking of the Bengals coming off a
loss to the Baltimore Ravens, looking ahead to Sunday night
football against the Giants, as he does each and every
Wednesday of the regular season, head coach Zach Taylor at
the podium down at pay Course Stadium, it's treading in
(48:54):
their direction.
Speaker 15 (48:55):
Well, you living javing that, what's your.
Speaker 16 (48:58):
Player, charpraximm just see where he's that. You know, it's
been uh last simmer of things when it happened. So
he's looked really good on the rehab field. Obviously he
wasn't able to come up those first four weeks and
so it made sense now to get him up with
with the injury to Dax and we'll just see where
he's at. But everything's been really good in the rehab
phase of thing. So we'll just take a look at him.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
You expect Shelton practice.
Speaker 16 (49:22):
We'll work him in this week and see where he's at.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
It could potentially be coming back.
Speaker 16 (49:29):
Really hard for me to say, really hard for me
to say. There's always ways for him to begin to
get up on special teams and feel more comfortable phases.
But until we get him out there and practice, I mean,
I'm just trying to picture myself put on the patch
for the first time since December and getting out there
is a challenge. But we'll see where's at.
Speaker 17 (49:46):
Talk a little bit about the challenges that you guys
faced with Dexter.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
Lawrence and how is he different than some of.
Speaker 17 (49:53):
The other really good premier defensive tackles.
Speaker 16 (49:56):
When you talk about premier defensive tackles, they effect to
you in every which way, the run game, the protections,
their overall intelligence, like just how they're being blocked and
how to attack the blocks. He is as disruptive as
they come. I mean, he really set the tone on
the second play the season with a sack on Sam Darnold,
and so he's he's he's up there with with the best,
(50:20):
and uh, you know, he's he's complimented well. Inside, they
have really good other defensive tackles. They've got great defensive
ends and so it's it's as tough upfront as you're
going to face in this league. How do you feel
like golf Corse defensive years.
Speaker 18 (50:44):
How do you feel like y'all have developed in terms
of game plan and make sure they make sure to minimize.
Speaker 16 (50:50):
I think we've always I mean we we we don't
want them to disrupt the game, and so we always
put a lot of time and effort into making sure
that we can try to minimize their strengths. It's not
always possible, especially when they have a lot of them,
because sometimes you just got to pick your poison and
trust in one on one situations. But we've been fortunate,
you know, having basically our staff in place for six years.
(51:12):
We faced everybody you could face, and so those protection
plans have evolved over the years. The run game has
evolved over the years to try to minimize them and
give us our best chance to be successful.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
Why do you think your offensive mass protection has been
a step up this year?
Speaker 8 (51:28):
You've set that on a few occasions.
Speaker 16 (51:30):
Now continuity with those guys, you know, they've they're very
cohesive unit. The chemistry is great. Frank and Derek have
done a great job with the group. Those guys are
bought in, it's important to them, and again we're trying
to do everything. The run game certainly helps take the
pressure off and allows us to do some things. And
so again I think that they've done a really good
(51:51):
job for us and give us a good chance to
be successful in the past game.
Speaker 5 (51:55):
In addition to.
Speaker 19 (51:56):
Teach productivity, what else has he given you since he's
been back to maybe created the matchups for the rest
of the offense.
Speaker 16 (52:03):
Well, even when he's not his productivity is still not
always statistics, you know, just him being out there, him
being on the same side as Jamar, him being opposite Jamar.
You really can't leave him one on one, and so
it certainly creates decisions people got to make. Again, he's
he's a top receiver in this league, and so when
(52:24):
you got two of those guys, it's a it's a
great strength of ours.
Speaker 20 (52:28):
Deep think guys feel that you're better suited because of
the progression in the run game this season to take
on a team like the Giants who are so dominant
at the Lives finish.
Speaker 16 (52:42):
It helps you know any way you can, you can
try to attack them to where they don't know what's coming.
We always try to marry that stuff together so that
they don't know a run or pass based on personnel,
based on formation, based on a lot of different things.
And so we spend a lot of time and energy
trying to before the balls even snapped, give ourself with
the advantage and keep them guessing so they can't play
(53:02):
as fast, to try to minimize their strengths.
Speaker 20 (53:05):
I guess that's my point, is that you're not as
you don't feel as predictable this year.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
Is that fairness?
Speaker 4 (53:11):
Oh?
Speaker 16 (53:12):
Somebody else say that, but again were just for us.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
It's really yeah.
Speaker 16 (53:15):
We got a theme on what we want to be
offensively social, game to game, on on how we're going
to play people and and what we think we can
do to be successful.
Speaker 20 (53:24):
To the defense, don't.
Speaker 16 (53:26):
I think, just do your job. You know, you don't
have to do too much, don't try to do somebody
else's job. Just stay within yourself. And so again I'm
confident that we'll have in the right direction there.
Speaker 21 (53:36):
Message maybe the defensive captives that you want to relay.
Speaker 16 (53:38):
For that whole group a specific message. Now it's just
been a message.
Speaker 17 (53:41):
To the whole group, are playing as well as you
want to be on one side of the ball, particularly
on defense, how do you get to become more opportunistic
like for example Geno's down. Big reason why you guys
wanted him was his.
Speaker 22 (53:55):
Ability to take the ball away, Like.
Speaker 6 (53:57):
How do you get guys like that to be able.
Speaker 17 (53:59):
To put themselves in decisions to make more places you.
Speaker 16 (54:02):
Just the boys will come to you, you know, if
you're trying to force it, if you're trying to stress it. Certainly,
we talk about takeaways every week and we emphasize it
and practice, we emphasize it in the meeting room. But
a lot of those naturally come just because you're playing
a great defense, and so more opportunities to come your
way when everyone's in sync and playing together, and they
tend to come in bunches and so again, just everyone
keep doing their job and those opportunities will come for everybody.
Speaker 23 (54:24):
But Mars made a.
Speaker 18 (54:25):
Bunch of big plays out the police in a row.
Whatever we ask anyone that one's just like, that's just Jamar,
like you almost like on the sideline, even expect it
or just not along with it. When you do something
crazy like the seventy yard screen or the touchdown that
and a half, that wasn't surprising anymore.
Speaker 16 (54:39):
No, that does not surprise me. It's any play call.
Oftentimes you do think about quick game. Okay, if we
catch this coverage with this, he might score from anywhere.
Tea's really the same way. You know, you saw the
Pittsburgh clip last year in a slant. So both of
those guys, we just we try to do our best
(54:59):
to put them in the best position to get that
yards after the catch and take advantage of how people
are going to play him, because you know they do.
They do treat us oftentimes different than other teams we've
seen on tape, and I think the offensive coaches have
done a great job putting a play together to make
sure that we're always one step ahead and and just
get the ball to Jamar and let him sometimes do
the rest. But that screen, it looks really muddy. That's
(55:21):
Drew and and Eric doing an unbelievable job at the
point of attack, unbelievable job where no one can come off.
And then Jamar was able to make a lot of
people miss. But I think that was that was That
was a good job by the three of those guys.
Speaker 24 (55:34):
We've heard a lot about how the pass rush of
the pass covers just being married out and.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Being sane maybe a little bit better. How why has
that kind of been an issue so war early on?
Speaker 16 (55:43):
Well, there's some times it was and Lamar just extends
the play and that's going to create this you know,
the different levels of people when when you're zero blitzing
a guy and he makes the free butzer miss, you know,
and he extends time in the pocket, then it's gonna
look like, man, who's got that guy? And so he's
(56:03):
obviously creates a lot of stress in your team. I
think Daniel Jones does a really good job this year.
I mean just watching these last couple of games in particular,
he's in great command. He does a good job using
his feet. They utilize him in the run game. He's
been really accurate as a passer, and so he's going
to be a big challenge because I think he's he's
playing with a lot of confidence right now and and
doing a good job moving that unitforward.
Speaker 25 (56:25):
What's your concerned as to where the defense is at?
Speaker 8 (56:28):
Kind of worthy?
Speaker 2 (56:29):
I've got confidence in our team.
Speaker 20 (56:31):
You notice anything when looking back so far the season
as to why some of.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
The third down struggles for.
Speaker 16 (56:36):
The defense and that name, we got to put ourselves
in more advantageous third downs.
Speaker 8 (56:42):
When the either you want to go week by the
week all the time as a team, but when you.
Speaker 26 (56:47):
Are staring at one and four, does it feel like
there's an extra weight on you, like your backs.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Against the wall.
Speaker 16 (56:53):
I think you got to do everything to make sure
it's just a normal week for us. You know, it's
I don't believe you play your best when when and
you think that way, And I think that's been a
strength of this team this season over past seasons of
when you watch us in the building, there's always a
level of urgency that's always there. We have our standard
(57:15):
and when you watch practice, you wouldn't know what our
record was based on the energy and the attention to detail,
and so that's something we've got to continue moving forward.
And that's that's something we really pride ourselves in as
a team, and we'll lead to success in the future
by having that mentality every single week.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
When you look back to a couple of years ago,
you bripped off ten wins in a what was it
about the team at.
Speaker 16 (57:38):
That time that allows them to be the same because
we again that was a year we were playing a
lot of division leaders and great teams, and so you
couldn't never look beyond anybody because they would bite you.
And I think that's where we just one game at
a time was find a way to beat this team,
and that's no different this week with New York. It's
just find a way to beat New York and then
(57:58):
we're onto the next one, and that'll solve a lot
of our problems if we can just look at it
that way.
Speaker 12 (58:04):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
The offense play in the way that it is. Are
you more willing to employ a defense it's maybe more
volatile or taste more risks in.
Speaker 27 (58:12):
Terms of trying to just force issues create turnovers as
opposed to maybe when you're trying to like play a
field position games where you're a little more worried.
Speaker 16 (58:20):
About what your offense is that I think, you know,
we just again, whatever we can do to put the offense,
their offense off balance, that's what we got to do.
And so it's we, certainly as as a team, always
going to a game up. Here's how this game is
going to be played, and here's the need from all
three phases. But at the same time, you want the
defensive game plan to be we dictate the tempo, we
(58:40):
dictate the down and distance, and we've got the advantage,
and so any plan anything we can get the players
to do to get us.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
In that position is what we tend to do, what
stands out of our league neighbors.
Speaker 16 (58:52):
I think his play strength is really good, you know.
So he's got suddenness. You saw the double move against Dallas,
I think it was. You see some of those those
catch and runs against Washington where he's got really good
play strength to fight through contact. He's got really good
play strength and quickness to make a guy miss after
(59:14):
the catch and be able to get some really solid
the act they move him around. I mean, he's a guy. Clearly,
they're trying to get touches too, so they're doing all
the things that you do to try to get touches
to a guy, and for rookie, he's done a great
job taking all that in. So obviously they put a
lot of his plates able to handle it, it appears, and
he's a real weapon for him. So I'm sure they
got to feel good about that pick. And he's he's
(59:35):
certainly been a big weapon for him. I know he
didn't play last week, and we would expect him to
play this week, and he'll be a real challenge for us.
Speaker 2 (59:42):
All right. So that is some of Zach Taylor speaking
to the media today outside of a couple updates from
an injury standpoint Austin. Nothing. It felt like very major
there today. Yeah, nothing really, nothing to write home about.
So we'll move on to you the talk. Leave us
your talkbacks. We play them next on the Home of
(01:00:04):
the Bengals. It's Sincy three to sixty thanks to our
friends at Cincy Shirts on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 8 (01:00:11):
Hey, Alexa, what's going on in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (01:00:14):

Group, carries on on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 22 (01:01:30):
Is that time for talkbacks? Press the microphone, handvy couch
your message for Ustin and tone, Please keep it clean
and don't be mean at a sprinkle sprinkled drip drip.
It's that time for talkbacks. It's our favorite part of
since three sixties. Austin, buddy, play that talkback on your
(01:01:54):
screen and please try not to Saba Taja.
Speaker 28 (01:02:00):
You know it is getting harder and harder to take
this freaking team seriously.
Speaker 8 (01:02:03):
When one of our top cornerbacks goes down for the season,
and rather.
Speaker 29 (01:02:07):
Than going out and get an approven commodity, we going, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
We'll take the sixth round draft pick from the Colts
practice squad.
Speaker 8 (01:02:14):
Yeah, who'll be fine just patching in, right, Lou.
Speaker 14 (01:02:17):
I mean, I guess it's better to have those young,
dumb guys and those old slow guys.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
But my god, let's come on, let's go secondary. Yeah.
I get like, I don't know, you lose. DAC's defense
has been terrible, and the answer seemingly is, uh, we'll
just be better and use the guys that haven't been
playing much. I get it. Well, dj Ivy's practicing, Mike
(01:02:42):
Hilton's coming back.
Speaker 30 (01:02:43):
Yes, Yes, I'd like to hear from God today on
talkbacks because I'd like to know what his involvement is.
What since the name Bengals losing all these close games
were statistically they shouldn't be one and four and.
Speaker 23 (01:03:05):
Nope, not finishing that, Greg Sharonville, Greg, So the Reds
they fired their three hitting coaches, they needed three hitting coaches. Well,
Nick Crawl must be listening to the show, because he
said from now on or going forward, we're gonna make
more contact, put the ball in play and power. Second,
(01:03:26):
Nick must be listening to the show because more than
once I suggested that I.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Don't doubt that they listened to the show. I was
surprised as I saw Moeger tweeted, I didn't know they
had that many hitting coaches last year. Yeah, it's not
that uncommon.
Speaker 26 (01:03:43):
I refused to all ride off the Bengal seven because
they offended too good. But what I need to do, Boom,
since I've been killing Vac Taylor at that poor game
manager and hawking back to example example super Bowl LA Ramp.
What was the best thing they did? It'll laugh, two
drive in a game, Joey Burrow all schedule scramble.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
What couldn't Zach Taylor do? Did that? He him a run?
Bro brought that? He him a run? Frustration setting in
even for Shannon.
Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
We're we're blaming Zach Taylor. I'm blaming Zach Taylor. Is
that what I just heard?
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
I'm blaming the play calling?
Speaker 27 (01:04:21):
I am Yes, God Heaven the one four start being
a vocal leader. Why doesn't some of the other Bengals
become more active in being vocal leaders, like Trey Hendrickson,
Sam Hubbard on the defensive side. You know, Trey Henderson
shows a lot of emotion on the field. Why doesn't
(01:04:44):
he show that emotion in the locker room? Talk to
the players being more of a vocal leader thoughts comments.
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
Yeah, well, listen, we multiple times have asked you to
be a little bit more emotional. God, we've asked you
to be a little bit bring more energy, bring more.
You just don't have it in you. And I think
sometimes is how it is for people in leadership roles.
Speaker 31 (01:05:04):
Hey, guys, since we all know that the NFL is scripted,
let me let you in on what the script says
for the rest of the year. For the Bengals, Joe
has a historic year as far as stats goes. Okay,
pulls the team out of a historically bad start to
go on to win the Super Bowl and become the
MVP of the season and the Super Bowl, and they
(01:05:24):
beat the Chiefs in the AFC Championship on let's say,
quote unquote questionable call that makes Chiefs fans heads explode
because irony.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Yeah, I'm all for it. Okay, Now that's the positivity.
Speaker 10 (01:05:35):
Yeah, Hey, Tony and Audie Kin from Keenland. Wow, my god,
it's a beautiful day for horse racing. The warblers are warbling,
the horses are beautiful, and the women are fast, and
I'm full of optimism. I got uk and Vandy this weekend.
Bengals are going to get back on the winning truck
against the Giants Sunday night, and all's going to.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Be right with the world. So whode go Red and
go big Blue. Better watch out, Kenny and Kentland. You
better watch out for that Vandy team.
Speaker 32 (01:06:08):
Kenny, it's a paintball google here and I just want
to send positive vibes to all the families in Florida
and the Pathway of Milton. I have nieces that live
in Tampa, Sarasota and Venice, and one of them just
gave birth to a baby girl at two am this
morning at Sarasota Memorial. Luckily they're going to hold them
(01:06:30):
at the hospital and tow the storm passes. May very
bless everyone in the Pathway.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Good luck with all of that. That is scary stuff.
Speaker 23 (01:06:40):
Hey Greg again, Uh, my brother Terry and his wife Jean,
they live in Sarasota. They are listeners, So Tony, I
do appreciate the shout out.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Well, then we appreciate them for listening and hope that
uh they were able to get the safety and uh
the best outcome.
Speaker 15 (01:06:59):
POL Entertainment Sports Radio back to the Cincinnati area and
haven't heard of since the nineties.
Speaker 33 (01:07:06):
Thank you.
Speaker 15 (01:07:08):
Second, Bondell was not brought back for his communications, just
the same old bangles. He was brought back because he
cleft a million dollars.
Speaker 8 (01:07:19):
Great day.
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
I think both of those things are true. Austin. I
love you, but bring your brain to work.
Speaker 34 (01:07:26):
Man. You can't hate team names like Utah Hockey Club
and love team names like FC Cincinnati. They are the
exact same thing. Oh uh, pick one or pick the
other or whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:07:46):
Who Craig, I've been on this show for almost five
years now. I would love for you to go back
in the archives and find one time where I said
I love the name f C Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
There are oftentimes I wonder with FC Cincinnati, like why
is why? Why do I not have anything to say
after I say FC Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (01:08:02):
Here's the thing that naming style is common in in soccer.
It's like that across the world in soccer, most teams
are named something along those lines. Columbus Crew, SC, FC Cincinnati,
Montreal FC, New York Red Bull like those sorts of things.
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
I just said a minute ago I didn't like Washington
football team, but it grew on me a little bit.
I've never said that I like FC Cincinnati and dislike
Utah Hockey Club. I think it sticks sticks out like
a sore thumb. When you have teams like the Chicago
Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche and
(01:08:48):
the Seattle Kraken, and then you've got Utah Hockey Club,
I think it sounds.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
Dumb, especially in hockey. That's like, Hockey's the.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Worst sports, Craig Fellow. He's been complaining a lot. Hockey's
the one sport. I feel like you could get crazy, right, Yeah,
especially when we saw the list of like YETI and
all that other stuff where it's like it sounds like.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
A good name. Yep, agreed.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
I've never once said I love team names like FC Cincinnati.
That is just a patented lie.
Speaker 26 (01:09:15):
Hey, guys.
Speaker 25 (01:09:16):
JD from Chicago. Thinking back to the nineteen seventy one
Cincinnati Rads, they traded away to stalwarts in Lee meg
and Tommy Helms to address some issues, took them to
a World Series once they acquired Joe Morgan and Jack Billingham,
and says our Geronimo, Bengals need to do the same thing.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Make a trade, Okay, Okay, who are you trading? That's right?
Who are you trading?
Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
Who?
Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
Who? Tell me who you're trading?
Speaker 35 (01:09:45):
Hey, guys, Robin Dayton. It's unfortunate this team probably won't
make a move, but in a perfect world we'd make
some phone calls. You have Khalil Mack, Max Crosby, Hassan Reddick,
these are all probably obtainable players.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
A strong pass.
Speaker 35 (01:10:00):
Rush will always make up for the deficiencies in a week.
Speaker 32 (01:10:04):
Secondary.
Speaker 35 (01:10:05):
If we're serious about a last ride with T Higgins,
then they better pick up the phone.
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you at all.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Day Just a reminder, the Bengals currently have nine point
five million dollars in cap space. Nine point five million dollars,
Max Crosby and Hassan Reddick, Khalil Mack, Them dudes ain't
coming here for nine point five million.
Speaker 21 (01:10:29):
Dollars, obviously, Jesse Bates walking. The idea behind that was
that we were going to keep Jamar and te not
looking good for keeping T. So I guess my question
is what does our record have to look like before
trading T turns into a conversation. Aj Green Jesse Bates
both walked after the tag for nothing. If we're just
going to continue losing games. Yeah, and it has to
(01:10:50):
become a conversation at some point because we didn't franchise
him to be last in the answer.
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
Yeah, I mean they'll probably get a third round pick
out of Higgins signing no matter what. So the conversation
starts at a second round pick and a player essentially.
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
Especially if something does happen with Davante Adams this week.
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Yeah, and you got to keep that in mind. They're
essentially guaranteed a third round pick when he leaves. If
they can get more out of that, that's gonna be
the conversation. If they feel like there's value, there's not
enough value in what teams are asking for, then they
might just let him walk. If you lose this week,
I don't know how you keep T Higgins on your
roster the rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Yeah, I said earlier in the week with with Moe
on the Tony and Mo Football Show. You know I
am I'm starting to say, Okay, if if they can
find a way somehow, some way to get to five
and four, maybe even four and five, anything other than that,
I am selling. I'm not holding on for this pipe
(01:11:52):
dream of nothing. I'm selling and I'm gonna I'm gonna
rip it down and I'm gonna get something out of
these guys. Is that gives me something going forward to
the future? Correct, Hey, guys, talkback matters.
Speaker 15 (01:12:10):
Guy.
Speaker 36 (01:12:10):
Hey, I know you guys laughed at me last time.
Your callers laughed at me. The Bengals obviously in the
top five as far as NFL paying their their offense
the ranked twenty second and paying their defense. Everybody wants
to blame Lou. It's not Lou's fault. Remember, you can
only do with what you can do with. And remember
(01:12:31):
Lou was several candidate for head coaching job. He did
not your thoughts now, really.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
On this, he did not get one of those head
coaching jobs. And I understand that it's it's not just Lou.
He's got to have the personnel to coach. I get that.
But at the same time, on a this defense shouldn't
be this bad. You can't. I'm sorry, I just you
can't sell me that that they are performing at the
(01:12:57):
level that is acceptable.
Speaker 29 (01:13:02):
Tonny Austin, George to the value. Hey, Austin, explain to
me what you're talking about when you say the Chiefs
structure his contract in a way where they have less
money going against the cap.
Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
You act like they figured out.
Speaker 29 (01:13:14):
A way to, like, you know, spend more money against
the cap by the way they structure his deal. And
I know that's not the truth. So exp what you're
saying when you say less money against the cap, that
makes no sense.
Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
The way you said that, it is the truth.
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
So they do these rolling restructures where they push money
down the line and they put more money into the bonuses.
Like for example, his cap hit this year is only
thirty seven million dollars. Think about you know, some of
the other quarterbacks across the league. You know, that's up
there with them, but overall and average annual value a
little bit smaller. His average salary is forty five million dollars.
(01:13:49):
That's ten million less than Joe Burrow. So his base salary,
myhome's base salary this year is only nine point eight
million dollars. He got a six point one million dollar
signing bonus, and these are pro rated bonuses and restructure
pro rations that kick in later as roster bonuses happened.
So his roster bonus is seven point nine million dollars.
(01:14:13):
Bonuses don't work against the cap like those are other
ways to avoid paying money at CAP. So you had
a million dollar workout bonus, a seven point nine million
dollar roster bonus, a six point one million dollar signing
bonus that he gets every year for being when it
comes back around, and then his base salary of nine
point eight million dollars. So they found ways to sprinkle
(01:14:35):
out the bonuses in ways that don't go against the CAP.
And teams do this across the NFL when they do restructures.
When you've heard of restructures, that's what they're doing. The
Bengals don't do that, could they? Yes, teams do it
all the time. There's loopholes around it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
Then why don't they?
Speaker 28 (01:14:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 37 (01:14:52):
Said Gino Stone, especially von Bell just so disappointing. I mean,
I think on the bride's side, I like Murphy, I
like Jenkins. I think this defensive line, you know, can
get better. But the secondary is a frigging mess. And
(01:15:12):
I wish we could trade our two coaches for the
two Viking coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Man deal.
Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
Yeah, what would the record Bengals record be if they
had Kevin O'Connell and Brian Flores four and one DJ
What would it be if they had just Brian Flores
at least at least three and two.
Speaker 19 (01:15:32):
Yeah, DJ Union, I think where the Bengals are right
now and the frustration we feel. As Tony said, they
need to take a good hard look at what they're
doing for evaluating and bringing in talent, and I hope
it brings a fundamental change that we get excited about,
just like the Reds finally did bringing in Francona. That
(01:15:55):
whole franchise now has a different feel to it. Hopefully
the Bengals wise up and do something some things simple.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
Yeah, I mean, it's amazing what the signing of Tito
Francona did to immediately immediately change the feel of the
Bengal or the Reds.
Speaker 38 (01:16:12):
How crazy is is that here we are in October
more excited about Cincinnati Reds baseball than Cincinnati Bengals football
when the last meaningful game the Reds played was on
September nineteenth.
Speaker 4 (01:16:25):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:16:27):
I'm just gonna try to implore people to pump the
brakes here a little bit. The Reds have a TV
issue that's going to be a significant amount of money
less than what they had coming in. They told you
all season long that they were injured and they essentially
told you in the firing with David bell Is that
David didn't get a go enough out of the players.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Yeah, but you see Mount McClain's night last night.
Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
What that means is that they are not going to
spend a lot of money. What they are going to
do is run it back with the same group, hope
their health, the grab a couple bullpen arms here and there,
maybe sign a starter, hope that Nick Martinez comes back.
They're not gonna spend very much money, especially when they're
paying David Bell not to coach, They're paying Francona, I'm
(01:17:13):
sure a very good amount of money to come out
of retirement. And they all season and so far this
offseason have talked about how they were hurt last year
and the players they did have weren't good enough at
the little things and we need a manager who can
get that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
Out of them.
Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
Yeah, but that is translation translation four. McLean's included in
all this translation four. We are not spending a lot
of money. Terry Francona is gonna have to fix all
these current players. Correct, That's what it is. Do not
expect the Reds to spend money. Not to say they
can't be good, but don't expect it to have.
Speaker 24 (01:17:50):
Tony Audi Adam from Camden got a bone to pick
with our current tuck back president, Johnny. Thanks, You're a
dumpster fire under this administration.
Speaker 9 (01:17:58):
Yep.
Speaker 24 (01:17:59):
The best thing you can do is offer us Skyline
gift cards.
Speaker 33 (01:18:01):
Well, in this.
Speaker 24 (01:18:02):
Talkback economy, I can't afford Skyline without those gift cards.
Things were a lot better under the previous administration, and
the Bengals were never this bad before Johnny walked in.
I think we need a vibe reset. I think it's
time for a new election, new talk back president.
Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
That could be the only thing that saves this Bengals season. Austin,
I know this may.
Speaker 33 (01:18:22):
Sound weird on the surface, but does Jake Browning have
any trade value with Miami and New Orleans and other
teams seeing their quarterbacks go down. Browning's on a controllable
contract and he's proven he can win games. Could he
be a somebody that they might consider trading to get
some defensive help.
Speaker 3 (01:18:42):
I think that he does have some value. I don't
know that the Bengals would be willing to move off
of him, especially when the rest of the offense is
so healthy. You feel like if Burrow goes down, it's
a lot easier to plug Browning in.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Man, we'll still be good. We're on the Browning conversation
point of the season of.
Speaker 39 (01:19:00):
Unhappy hump Day. Jacob Here, what's up, Jacob Sunday Night.
The Bengals defense gonna have to come up with some stops.
I don't think our offense is gonna have any problems
moving the ball. Giants got some playmakers on offense. Elak Neighbors,
the rookie Wandel Robinson. She got Devin Singletarry or if
he's healthy, Daniel Jones can roll out the pocket. The
(01:19:21):
Bengals are going to have to clean up the tack
one mistakes without goin baby.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
Without a doubt. I saw an extra from Brian dayball.
I don't know if you saw it or not. Austin
he was. He was talking about the draft and players
that he liked, and he had actually met with Nick Saban,
and there were two players in his meetings with Nick
Saban that Saban essentially said, these guys gave us fits
(01:19:47):
in college. One was brock Bowers, one was Moleague. Neighbors.
They went and got neighbors and it looks like an
absolute home run right now for this team.
Speaker 10 (01:20:00):
Those are all great questions I asked to Zach today.
Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
But by tomorrow, can we please move on to the
Giants and stop looking backward.
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
We have a game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
Well, Jeff Kelsey, who you hate, asked about Dexter Lawrence
and Charlie who we love, asked about Molik neighbors Tonydro
We love Kelsey too.
Speaker 26 (01:20:18):
Hey, I'm praying for those people down to Florida that
are about to get hit with that nasty, nasty weather.
First UC game of the year that was going to
be at ucf Man, we had our.
Speaker 34 (01:20:29):
Plans, we had our traveling and it's all canceled.
Speaker 8 (01:20:32):
So bummer.
Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
So maybe it'll be move to the nap play that
game up there. Nip at night, baby, go bear katas Man.
Nip would be nice, nippitt Knight would be fun. Ex Unfortunately,
if you look at the next home game against Arizona State,
that's another noon game. It's nip at Noon. Now they
don't even give us night games anymore. TV Man, Hey, guys,
Margot from the groove.
Speaker 28 (01:20:54):
The next four games, I can see three wins. Not obviously,
not because of our defense. But I think our offense
is way better than those offenses. So the Giants and
the Browns and the Raiders, I think, and they can
get stuffed on their own offense versus us getting stops.
Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
So I feel good about our next four, okay, and
then I felt good about our first couple too. And
yet here we are.
Speaker 40 (01:21:25):
Addie Tone, what's going on?
Speaker 24 (01:21:26):
The stools come from the can enterprise.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
I ain't gonna hold back on these bungles. Let's go bogus.
Speaker 40 (01:21:32):
Honestly, I don't know how you can have this much
regression you pay your offense whatever. Top five in spending,
your damn defense is what twenty seventh. I believe in
total spending. I mean, the riding was on the wall.
Everybody knew this was gonna happen. Duke Tobin, figure it out,
Zach Taylor, figure it out.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
I have one other thing that I was that was
our last one, So go ahead. Well, so I'm thinking
about the Zach Taylor press conference, And there was a
point in the press conference when he was asked about
Jamar Chase, and he mentioned that the greatness of Jamar
Chase is just getting the ball in his hands and
letting him do his things. He talked about that quick
(01:22:17):
screen where it was great blocking, but he took it
to the house. Yeah, born to do that. Are we
not picking up what's wrong here? That same guy that
you talk about getting the ball in his hands, you
didn't do it on the last drive of the game.
And we have no reservan, no second guessing to that.
Perfectly fine with how the last bit was handled. Like,
(01:22:37):
to me, what are we doing? Those things don't add up.
That does not add up to anything for me. If
that's your guy, if it's all you gotta do is
get the ball in his hands and watch what he does. Then,
in the most meaningful snaps of the game, get the
damn ball in his hands. Ridiculous Football in the Natty
is next, ESPN fifteen thirty. Thanks to our friends. You're
(01:23:00):
disgusted today, I'm sick of it. I'm sick thanks to
our friends at since he's shirts on the home of
the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 7 (01:23:10):
Now your chance to win a thousand football in the
NATTI on the official home of the Bengals, Cincinnati's ESPN
fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:23:19):
All right, welcome back football, in the NATI. Here, I'm
reading some different tweets from the start of practice. Here
Austin Jay Morrison reporting that Sheldon Rankins is back to work,
missed three games with the hamstring, but also wearing a
big brace on his left arm. Let's just ask the
(01:23:40):
question for Football Focus. Has the Bengals ranked tenth against
the run? And I believe sixty one of Derrick Henry's
yards came in overtime. He had only I believe thirty
rushing yards through four quarters.
Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
Yeah, I think before what was it before that run?
It was like fourteen for forty one or something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
If Hill and Rankins are back, do you feel good
enough about the Bengals' ability to stop the run? I'm
not saying the past, because, as we mentioned earlier, when
you can't get after the pass or it doesn't matter
who's back there in the secondary, you're gonna get torched.
Are they better equipped with the pieces in place, the
addition of Chris Jenkins, maybe what McKinley Jackson can do
(01:24:25):
playing less snaps. Are they well enough equipped at least
to stop the run?
Speaker 3 (01:24:30):
Better equipped? Yes, hard to say that they will. We
haven't really seen it, Like, are they slowly trending in
the right direction against the run. Yes, I think back
to that Week one game when everybody was healthy. You know,
they were okay against the run. They missed a lot
of tackles that would have changed the game for sure.
(01:24:51):
Week two they got gashed on the ground. Kansas City
kind of controlled the line of scrimmage well, well equipped,
more equipped to do it. Yes, will it actually happen,
I don't know it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
It will have to be better if this team wants
to do what the optimist are hoping they do, which
is win the next four.
Speaker 3 (01:25:13):
Other Bengals practice notes for today, Sheldon Rankins, you mentioned
is practicing, Mike Hilton is practicing. He today, Amarius Mimes
is dressed for practice. That is a good good sign.
That was scary when he went off the field. It
was so credit to him, the toughness being able to
come back out play through that. Zach Moss is out
there wearing a jersey, but he is not participating. He is,
(01:25:36):
I believe, wearing tennis shoes and not going through stretch.
So he may be out today, but good news everywhere else.
If Mike Hilton, Sheldon Rankins, Amarius Mims, DJ Ivy all return.
Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
Dj Ivy, watch out for him for the Bengal You
know his middle name poison Yep, got it, got it,
he nailed that, dude. Three and a half point favorites
on Sunday Night of the Cincinnati Bengals early line for
the game in Cleveland, they are a four and a
half point favorite as well. I would assume they're a
(01:26:11):
small slight favorite at home against the Eagles and the Raiders.
So not that it matters because they've lost as being
the favorites before this year, but is it doable to
win the next four? Right now? Do you think the
Bengals will win on Sunday Night? Yes, because at the
end of the day, it's still Daniel Jones, and I
just can't bring myself to seeing how they lose to
(01:26:35):
Daniel Jones. Now, in my opinion, it's gould to be
much closer than what I expected this game to be
when the season started, that is for sure. But I
have a hard time believing that they lose to Danny Dimes.
I really do. Let's take a break, let's come back.
We'll wrap up our number two. We'll kick off our

be an awesome atmosphere and such a great cause as well.
Wes Miller did announce Tyler McKinley, the highly tatented freshman,
(01:28:25):
is not going to play this season due to a
knee injury, but a lot of really good stuff from
Wes Miller that will eventually get to from Scott Suderfield
as well. But we do have some help when we
come back because the man that covers both you see

Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Getting back to we're switching gears. I should say a
little bit here to the Cincinnati Bearcats. We've talked predominantly
today about the Cincinnati Bengals. Let's talk Bearcats. Let's do
so with the man covering the Bearcats for Bearcat Journal
dot Com. To Keegan Nicholson joining us right now. What's
up Keegan?
Speaker 8 (01:31:04):
Nothing much. I'm excited to be on Keigan.
Speaker 2 (01:31:07):
Let's start with the football squad, and let's start with Saturday.
Are we are we one hundred percent yet that this
game is going to happen? Is this still a waiting
game obviously with what Florida is preparing to be hit with.
What's the latest just from a status standpoint of Saturday?
Speaker 8 (01:31:23):
Yeah, I don't think that we'll know definitively that you
see is going to play on Saturday until the team
flight leaves on Friday. I think it's supposed to hit
somewhere tonight and kind of maybe go into early Thursday
morning if I'm correcting that, And then you kind of
(01:31:44):
have to look at okay, like, are the logistics figured out,
Like our airport's open, our our fields in decent shape,
it's anything been impacted severely. So I would expect to
know definitively on Friday morning if the game is going
to be played, because you know, UC doesn't want to
take a team fight a chartered flight down there. They
don't want to you know, waste money in hotels and
(01:32:07):
all that stuff. So it'll be interesting to see. If
if I was a betting man, I would say that
they would play because it's Saturday. I think the youth
the USF and Memphis game getting moved from Friday to
Saturday was kind of a good sign that the game
could be played. But with stuff like this, especially seeing
what happened in North Carolina last weekend, you really just
(01:32:30):
never know.
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Keegan from a team standpoint, the last we saw the
bear Cats, it was essentially in disarray, not from the
on field product, because they went toe to toe with
Texas Tech. But from an injury standpoint, especially at running back,
what's the latest on where we stand right now? From
just an availability standpoint for UC going into Saturday.
Speaker 8 (01:32:52):
Yeah, So Scott Saderfield said they had about twenty five
guys in the training room after that Texas Tech game.
They were beat up really, really bad. He told us
Tuesday that just about every one of those guys except
cam Roeththereford will probably be able to be available. He
said Rothford was the biggest question mark. Potentially we could
(01:33:14):
possibly see D'artagan Tinsley back. I think I would expect
to see Zabra Henderson back. He left the game late.
But if he says that he thinks they're all going
to be available, that means Corey Kiner and Evan Pryor
are going to be available. And those are two big
pieces of the offense that left with some decent time
(01:33:35):
on the clock against Texas Tech. So I think that
their offense looks a lot different with those two guys
in the field, especially with Daber Henderson. But to have
most of the guys back is huge because that third
level of depth was really really going to be tested.
If if there were a lot of guys out, so
(01:33:55):
I know that they're comfortable with the depth that they
have and the fact that none of it really seems
to be long term, especially since roxburd is just a
question mark. You see, should find themselves very very fortunate
coming out of Texas Tech.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
You know, I look Kegan at the pit loss and wondering, man,
is this going to be a loss that you know
reverberates through the next couple of weeks where they can't rebound,
and yet they rebounded really well after that. How many
positives are there to take on I know it was
a loss, but on the way they performed on the
road against Texas Tech in a crazy environment, against a
(01:34:28):
pretty good Texas Tech team as well.
Speaker 8 (01:34:31):
Yeah, I think there's a lot of positives you can take.
And I would go as far as to say that
I think if Corey Kiner's in that game for the
entire game, I think you see wins that game. I
don't think that's a crazy thing to think. I think
the defense was definitely struggling, but you know, it took
what was it forty five to forty eight seconds of
(01:34:53):
runoffs on the last drive to really force you see
into a fifty yard field goal there at the end.
So it was a really, really weird game. I think
that they had some stuff work against them with the
Abrahamerson injury runoff, with the what should have been a
defensive runner being hit penalty called targeting reverse targeting runoff,
(01:35:14):
and then Mayny Kobe doesn't stay in the game, he
leaves and then substitution. I think that cost him close
to twenty seconds. So you see, had a lot working
against them, and they still had a chance for a
field goal at the end. Attendant to overtime that you
don't know if they win in overtime, of course, especially
on the road, but there's a ton of positives, especially
just looking at what this team was last year, but
(01:35:36):
that probably would have been a four to five possession
game if that UC team last year. It has to
go into Texas Tech, and they kind of showed that
while the defense isn't great, they can make necessary plays
to keep you in it. And if they have a
quarterback that if you have to rely on his arm,
he's going to give you a chance to win the game.
And I think carrying that into the rest of the
(01:35:58):
season gives you see a good chance.
Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
Yeah, that was my next thought. Brendan Sowersby. People were
high on him coming out of training camp. I don't
know if anyone envisioned the start that he's had, and
to make comebacks multiple times against Texas Tech with you know,
three four running backs out, a couple of your top
receivers out. How much did did that say to you
about Brendan Soorsby and the Bearcats seemingly finally having their
(01:36:22):
quarterback right now to lead the Scott Sudderfield offense.
Speaker 8 (01:36:25):
Yeah, when we talked before the Texas Tech game, you
kind of asked me if I expected to see this
Brendan Sorersby, and up until the Texas Tech game he
had showed me kind of what I expected. And of
course Indiana football players are studs all over the place.
Like all Indiana does is produced really really good football players.
That's a joke, of course, But Brendan swersby how he
(01:36:47):
played before the Texas Tech game is kind of what
I expected. I did not expect him to go and
do that at Texas Tech. I mean, just throwing for
what was at four hundred and twenty six yards four touchdowns,
should have had two inner exceptions. Jimoy May has helped
them out with the one at the end through his
first interception on the season, and I think how he's
(01:37:08):
sharing the wealth and the receiving game is another thing
that keeps UC's offense with such a high ceiling. I
think on that last drive he hit all of Zager Henderson,
Joe roy Or, Tony Johnson, and Jimoy Mays, and I
think he had to dump off the Manny Kobe as well,
and a couple of players where he had to run too.
So this UC offense right now, it can beat people
(01:37:30):
with running the ball with Corey Kiner and Evan Pryor,
and they can beat people with throwing the ball. So
I think if they can just have a pretty normal
game script, no disconcerting signals on fourth down, no crazy
runoff on the last drive, I think that they would
have a lot of chance to win. But of course
it's college football, so you really never know what's going
(01:37:50):
to happen any given Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
I look forward to seeing how they rebound on special teams,
which was a detriment against Texas Tech, but defensively they
come off as great performance against Houston, and you kind
of feel like, Okay, this this feels like what the
defense is supposed to look like and then they just
get gashed. And I don't want to take anything away
from Texas Tech in that offense. That's a good offensive team.
That's a running back who's going to be playing on
(01:38:12):
Sundays in the National Football League. But what do we
need to see now more from the defensive side of
the ball and a team like UCF who is run heavy.
Does that help this bearcat style of defense or does
that create another challenge in of itself.
Speaker 8 (01:38:28):
Yeah, I think with Texas Tech they had such a
good running back in todgs Brooks, but Baron Morton was
good enough to beat you with his arm, and you
kind of saw him make some big time throws down
the field to an NFL receiver in Josh Kelly, a
good receiver in Caleb Douglas. And then they have a
five stars refreshman and Micah Hudson, who I don't think
had a big game, but he's obviously someone you have
(01:38:49):
to pay attention to. Now against UCF, you want to
force kJ Jefferson to beat you with his arm because
he has not shown that he will be able to
do it. Twenty two season where he beat uc in
Week one. You see in Ben Bryant that was his
best college football season that he had. Twenty twenty three,
(01:39:09):
he regressed and then Pittman kind of said, look, we're
going to go in a different direction. He goes to
U c F and right now he's having an even
more season than twenty twenty three. Throwing the ball some
really poor throws adentst. Florida. That game should have been
way more out of hand. Florida is also struggling, and
I think he had a good game against PCU throwing
(01:39:29):
the ball, but you have to have to force him
to beat you through the air. If you let RJ.
Harvey run for two hundred and twenty five two hundred
and thirty yards like he's capable of doing, they're going
to be able to control the time of possession, and
it's gonna it's gonna be tough to get towards down
the field to make some plays. But you know, and
there are two losses. Harvey was kept under one hundred
(01:39:50):
yards rushing each time. I think he had seventy seven
against us STEP and seventy five against Florida. So he's
not impossible to stop. He's a really, really good running back.
I think the linebackers for u SEE has to be
gap setting, and that's why I think getting Jonathan Thompson
back is such a big thing for this UC defense.
Just a second level linebacker who will be able to
(01:40:12):
keep Jake Golday more fresh, and maybe he'll be able
to make more than two game changing planes like you
saw him making against Texas Tech to kind of keep
the game alive and give you See a chance. kJ
Jefferson not great in the pocket or escaping the pocket.
I think you See will have multiple chances to get
some sacks, but it's about finishing those like we've kind
(01:40:33):
of them struggled with so far the season.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
Spending a few more minutes two with Keegan nickoson a
barkat Jonah dot com. Keegan, we heard from Wes Miller
yesterday on Bearcat Basketball, which is right around the corner.
What were some of your biggest takeaways from hearing Wes
Miller speak yesterday.
Speaker 8 (01:40:49):
My biggest takeaway is that Connor Hickman is going to
be my favorite interview in the entire season. Just a
hilarious guy asked about you know, if his athleticism or
forty inch vertical shocked some people, and he said endi quote,
I mean, I'm sick to white with a colmover. I
don't think that anybody expected me to come in and
dunk on people. But I think that the amount of
(01:41:12):
excitement around the program is really really big, and Wes
Miller knows that. He knows that there's high expectations for
this team. I think the amount of death that they
have is a parent one of the things that I
took away. You know, we all remember Dan Skillings going
in the baseball game and saying, you know, this is
going to be my last season of Cincinnati, and he's
(01:41:33):
liked it really, really firm, like like this year three
is it and then I'm going to the NBA. And
I asked Wes about that after the season last year
and he said, look that like that that's a decent
mindset to have, but you know, we got to be
focused on winning and stuff like that. And then asked
Dan about it again yesterday and he says, yeah, I'm
like not thinking about the NBA at all right now.
So that's kind of where I think that's significant of
(01:41:56):
you know, he could be back for a fourth year,
like it's not just year redone and then NBA and
then how big that could be for PC team that's
going to lose a lot of important players next season. Now,
if you see exceed expectations and they go to a
Sweet sixteen or in e Leite eight, the Skilling draft
stock is probably going to be really high and he
could go to the draft and he could be a
(01:42:18):
late first round pick, and it would be beneficial for
him to do that. But just knowing that, you know,
it's not completely out of possibility for him to come
back to you sees. I think a significant development. I
think the Tyler McKinley news was tough for him, turning
his acl and having seasoned Indian knee surgery. I had
(01:42:38):
heard that he was having a really, really good summer
and was going to compete with Anton Page for some
of those minutes at the five or the stretch four.
So yeah, I think that this team has a lot
of death and it's really really exciting. When I started
this season covering college football, I always think like I
didn't really want to be covering basketball, Like I love
college football. I love just the weekend, week out grind
(01:43:01):
of college football. And then you know you have the
first college basketball pressers and now I'm thinking, man, I'm
pretty juice like Xavier at Fifth Arena, Kansas at Fifth
and Arena Arizona. So this is going to be one
of the biggest seasons in u SEE basketball history for
just a hype standpoint, and the amount of really good
teams and the amount of talent on the squad. So
(01:43:23):
I'm really really looking forward to covering that team.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
That is more on Bearcat basketball with Keegan Nickoson. We'll
dive more into that team as we go. The Ohio
State Exhibition coming up right around the corner for now, Keegan,
thank you so much for your time. I know it's
a busy week. What's the easiest way to follow along
with all your coverage of the Bearcats as we dig
deeper into football season and obviously basketball season right around
the corner.
Speaker 8 (01:43:46):
Yeah, follow me at k Nicholson forty two on X
and then make sure you're subscribe to Bearcat Journal. I'm
going to have a UCF preview up here soon, a
lot of good stats and the UCF team and what
I might expect from Saturday's match if.
Speaker 2 (01:44:00):
It happens awesome. Kegan, thanks for your time, man, We'll
talk soon.
Speaker 33 (01:44:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:44:04):
Thanks, Denny, there.
Speaker 2 (01:44:05):

Speaker 2 (01:45:22):
Wow, welcome back. Our three rolled along on this Wednesday
afternoon sincey three sixty thanks to our friends at Penn Station.
Let's go local, thanks to our friends at novacare. The
head basketball trainer of the UC men's basketball program joins
us each and every week. That is one Bob Man,
Jean Bob, what's going on?
Speaker 9 (01:45:42):
Another day in Paradise? Stand here in bearcat Land, Tony,
just getting ready for another basketball practice today and getting
ready to get kids to play Ohio State come next Friday,
the eighteenth homecoming weekend on campus, and we're playing at
seven o'clock Friday night against the Ohio State University.
Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
Any truth to the rumor that this is really the
first time Ohio State has agreed to play Cincinnati since
they backed out of that football game in two thousand
and nine.
Speaker 9 (01:46:10):
Tolly, I can't answer that. You know me, I'm not
on the eighth floor. Come down here in the dungeon,
just grinding away, getting kids ready to play.
Speaker 2 (01:46:17):
That's fair. Now, this week Bob, We have kind of
an overlapping of something that's happened with the Bengals and
something that we found out yesterday, according to Wes Miller,
has happened to the Bearcats. Tyler McKinley is going to
miss the twenty twenty four season due to a knee injury,
and Dax Hill, due to an ACL injury, is expected
(01:46:40):
to miss the rest of the Cincinnati Bengals season, which
is a devastating blow for the Bengals obviously on defense.
But are it feels like we're hearing more and more
knee injuries? Is that a thing? Is that becoming more
of a problem, And if so, can you put your
finger on why we're seeing more knee injuries?
Speaker 9 (01:46:59):
Well, Number one, I'm kind of been around long enough
to see cycles, and I think that acls have always
got a problem. It's the second most common knee injury,
right after tearing your MCL or the inside ligament, the
medial ligament. But we have in this country consistently between
(01:47:20):
two hundred and two hundred and twenty five ACL injuries
a year, and no ligament structure in the body has
had more published articles about it than the ACL. Everything
from how to prevent it, how to treat it, how
to repair it, how to rehab it It's just nothing's
(01:47:41):
been more studied in the human body than the ACL.
And yet here we are in twenty twenty four and
I feel like I'm still back at Pittsburgh in nineteen seventy.
We don't have the answer. They happen. You put your
body in the wrong position at the wrong time, and
(01:48:01):
you're going to feel pop. And seventy nine percent of
the time you've torn your a CL or your MCL.
So that knee injuries happen. I mean, sports are violent
on your body. I mean when you start rotating and
twisting and getting into contorted positions, something's got to give,
and oftentimes it's a ligament, and the a c L
(01:48:23):
is the second most common ligament injured in the knee.
And you've got to have an accurate diagnosis. You've got
to get into physical therapy, you've got to get into
deciding if you want to fix it or not. And
at the collegian professional level, they're going to fix it.
So you know, I'm sure you know we've had a
(01:48:45):
number of a cls already in athletics here that you
see this year. I don't want to give a number,
but it's it's a pretty, you know, fairly high number
for a year. But we're addressing it. We've got great
orthopedic surgeons and Jim Turcik and the staff do a
great job through Novacare to get them back on the field.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
How much has changed in the recovery process over the years.
How you know, from years and years ago when you
hear a knee injury, you're thinking a much longer timetable.
How much has now gone into just the advancements of
getting these players not only back quicker, but back in
many times feeling stronger than ever.
Speaker 9 (01:49:24):
Well, see, that's the thing is the latest data shows
that you should still basically take nine and twelve months.
So everybody wants to think that they have the golden
answer that I can get them back quicker if you
do this and you do that, and it's basically when
you get them back when they're ready. So when I
(01:49:45):
have a kid, the charrish in ACL, my comment's going
to be, hey, look, you know we're going to get
the stick. We're going to get back to playing. But
I'm not going to tell you is it going to
take six months, nine months, twelve months, eighteen months. You
played with a kid. Do you remember Tony Carvetti, Yes,
defensive tackle for US when we I think it was
d'antonio's first year and you were around. Tony played it
(01:50:07):
eleven weeks and six days. But he was a genetic freak.
And then I can give you another young lady I
took care of in women's basketball. That took me twenty
two months. So everybody is absolutely different. And also it's
not just you've torn your acl You got to worry
(01:50:27):
about all the other things you tore, so that you
might have a maniscus tear, you might tour one of
the other ligaments, you might damage your condrol surface. You're
tickler currently surface. So there are a lot of factors
that go into it. And you know you've got to
have good postop care, good post injury care. You know
(01:50:48):
that's why Novacare we started what we call the Centers
of Excellence. These are sports medicine offices that have the
right personnel that you know you want to get your
kids into and make sure that they get the right
intervention because surgery I always like to get you, remember
(01:51:11):
doctor Andrews. Then in Birmingham, Alabama, and Jimmy and I
are great friends. And Jimmy and I when we spoke together,
would say fifty percent of it is the surgery and
fifty percent of it is the physical therapy after the surgery,
and they both have to come together in order to
have the best outcome. Well, I mean, some of the
athletes I've take care of over the years have been
(01:51:32):
absolutely unbelievable and how fast they can recover. But yet
for everyone I get back fast, Like if Tony, you know,
I'll give you five people, it's taken me twelve months
to get them back.
Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
Yeah, I guess my follow up and to finish this,
Bob would be in a day and age where all
we talk about is guys that are bigger and faster
and stronger. What we don't think about is, Okay, when
you're bigger, faster and stronger, that's more pressure on a
ligament like that when you're cutting constantly. We've had the
turf versus natural grass conversation. But how big of a
(01:52:03):
problem does it become when guys are built and wired bigger, faster, stronger,
But yet it's not stabilizing, it's not strengthening those ligaments,
so more goes into the physical and violent nature of it,
but not enough goes into protecting those ligaments. Is that
where you see those spikes in numbers of knee injuries
(01:52:23):
like that because there's not enough emphasis on protecting while
you're strengthening.
Speaker 9 (01:52:29):
Well, I think that that is a piece of the puzzle.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
You know.
Speaker 9 (01:52:33):
Another piece is people asking all the time about why
do women's soccer players have more acls than say, male
football players in the same age. And part of it
is you played high school football. You know that you
played high school football. Now I know at reading you've
probably played another sport, but you spent how much time
in the weight room after football season is over? And
(01:52:53):
in today's world of soccer, I just think the way
that they designed it where they go from high school
to indoor to spring leagues, the summer leagues. And you
say to a parent, well, did you put your kid
into the weight room for you know, four or five
months and work with a licensed physco therapist, to work
with a certified strength coach or a certified athletic trainer.
(01:53:15):
And they looked at you like, no, they don't have
time to go do weights. You know, they got to play.
The coach wants them to play, they want to play,
they want to play, and that's one element. But if
you're not strong enough to put up with what you
just talked about, large rotational forces, big bodies, you know
you're going to end up tearing your ACL or or
something else. So I think that plays into it. And
(01:53:39):
the other factor that plays into it is a couple
of years ago, we had a sport where we were
looking at the ACL injuries and one occurred in the
last thirty seconds of practice. What occurred in the last
five minutes of practice, one occurred in the last eight
minutes of practice. What occurred in the last minute of
a game? What's it telling you? Fatigue's a factor. And
(01:53:59):
if they're overloading constantly and not winning enough recovery and
you're fatiguing, something bad's going to happen. And so you know,
oftentimes it's the knee because the knie it's there right
in the middle of the way. So you get that
foot on the ground and your hips this big, huge
joint that's very stable, and your ankles in contact with
(01:54:20):
the ground. What's going to give the joint in the
middle and that's your knee. So I think these kids
today need to spend more time working on their skill development.
I need article and I can't. Oh, I can't remember
the journal. You know, there was the old adage never
let your kids lift when they were little, you know,
before the age of sixteen or eighteen, And some articles
(01:54:40):
have come out in the last twenty years saying no,
I mean, these kids need to start using rubber bands earlier,
and work on their mobility earlier, working on single leg
balance earlier, working on core earlier, maybe as young as six,
seven and eight years old. You know, you know aj
Aj worked when you remember Jake Flynn, of course, you
know you work with Jake Flint. Jake had Aj at
(01:55:03):
twelve years old being able to do an overhead squat
with like one hundred and thirty five pounds, and you
know he played competitive hockey for eighteen years and you
know had like one minor knee injury. So I think
you've got to get your kids strong. You need to
do it in the right way. You need to go
get a you know, there's a lot of programs, a
(01:55:24):
lot of our offices and Nobody Care do consults to
where people can get their high school kid or their
you know, kid playing a you are wreck and get
an evaluation of where they are and where they should be.
And to me, you know that's really really critical. No
matter what study you read, if you strengthen, you reduce
(01:55:46):
the risk of ACL injuries. There are probably twenty articles
that show if you're teaching good skill and you get
strength training, you reduce the risk of injuries. But they
will still happen. Don't think that that means that you're
never going to get hurt. The other issue is you
know family history. If you know if my mom and
(01:56:07):
dad tore their ACL, guess what, there's a risk I'm
going to tear my ACL, and I better get my
butt in a weight room and I better get my
butt with a good trainer in order to get strength
and conditioned. Because you look at we had one athlete
this year who tore the ACL, and we went back
and looked at the family history and the brother tore
(01:56:29):
the ACL three times, another brother tore a ACL once,
and the dad for the ACL once. And then we
have a female, one of our female players who tore
ACL four times and her sibling tore their ACL twice.
So those are the kids that you really need to
get into a prevention program, because that's the only hope
(01:56:51):
that they have of not continuing that genetic factor, because
it's definitely there's a genetic factor there. There's no disputing it.
So just get good advice, get into a good program,
work with a good skill, you know, good skill coach,
good pet, good athletic trainer, and try to find what
(01:57:13):
works for your body and and get in that weight
room and do it. I love the wait from you know,
you know me. I was down there all the time
with you guys, and I think that's your best way
to avoid injury.
Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
Bob, you are the best. Bob Man Jean from the
University of Cincinnati from Novercare, Bob. I look forward to
getting together next week and let's dive into the basketball
season a little bit more. Is that uh that Ohio
State matchup? Looms appreciate, I appreciate your time. Is always.
Speaker 9 (01:57:41):
Have a great weekend, Tony, you have a great weekend.
I'm hoping the Bengalis can can win one this week
into a bad Giants team. And Austin's probably still you know,
having too much alcohol over the Reds. Yeah, that's where
the Reds are. And now that he's got Terry, Frank
and Kona. He's probably jumping up and down and you're
(01:58:03):
all excited and can't wait for what is a one
hundred and seventy two days to the opening day.
Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
There we go. I love it, Bob, Thank you as always.
Look at Bob Man, You're I love it. He is
an alcoholic Bob and cut no, no, no, no, no, no, Bob,
Thank you man. We'll talk next week.
Speaker 4 (01:58:21):
Okay, you guys have a good weeky.
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
That is that's Bob Manjen. Look, when it comes to
your physical well being, you want a physical therapist you
can trust. That's Novacare Rehabilitation. Novacare has been the exclusive
physical therapy and athletic training provider to the Bearcats for

plenty more still to go as we wrap our number three?
Just ahead on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station ESPN fifteen.
(01:58:46):
What's going on in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (01:58:48):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
Tony.
Speaker 3 (01:59:00):
We got a couple of minutes to kill here on
since he three sixties, Yes, we do ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports station. What do you have you seen this
man in Florida?
Speaker 2 (01:59:12):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:59:12):
That is going by the moniker, Lieutenant Dan, I have
this is a gentleman who I saw him also described
as a Category five Florida man.
Speaker 2 (01:59:26):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:59:27):
And he has decided that he is going to try
to wade out Hurricane Milton in his twenty foot sailboat.
Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
I wouldn't call it a luxury sailboat.
Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
In a twenty foot boat off the coast of Tampa. Yes,
is this admirable?
Speaker 23 (01:59:44):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:59:45):
Or is this silly?
Speaker 30 (01:59:46):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
This is stupid. This is silly. What are we doing?
I mean, we unfortunately had to see the ramifications of
this just a couple of weeks ago when it hit. Now,
maybe the the you know, the eye of this storm
is shifting a little bit further south. But still his
reasoning from what I saw was, you know, the water
(02:00:08):
could go up one hundred feet, the boat would go
up with it, he said, which I get.
Speaker 3 (02:00:12):
He said, boats float, boats float, which I understand that
is true.
Speaker 2 (02:00:16):
They also sink. They also sink. What about the like
one hundred mile an hour winds that are going to
be blowing other things into the boat. What about the
winds that are going to be creating waves higher than
the boat. What about the debris that we'll be flying
around I saw. I've seen multiple reports that he has
a dog on board with him, which I'm not okay with.
I also have seen stuff where he's being ordered to
(02:00:36):
leave and he's not leaving. You know, he's kind of
given it to Leonardo DiCaprio where I'm not leaving type
of mentality, but a very strange man. I believe he said.
You know, if you go back to biblical terms, the
safest place for Noah was on the water, So he's
compared himself a little bit to Noah. Also, Noah had
(02:00:57):
little help. He had little help. Also for Lieutenant Dan,
a lot has been made about, you know, references that
that God is talking to him and God has told
him what to do. So there's a very biblical side
and then there's the side that is requested. You know,
he's got room for one female on the boat. That
the only way he would leave and go to a
hotel is if he is accompanied by a female.
Speaker 10 (02:01:20):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:01:20):
I don't know what to make of Lieutenant Dan. He
is a sensation, for sure. He's as viral as you
could be right now.
Speaker 3 (02:01:27):
Yeah, just not sure this is the way you want
to be viral, Like there are there's part of me
there people out there like get like betting on will
he survive or not? Which is insane. That's that's stupid,
which is insane. This is a very serious situation. But
this guy is a fascinating individual to me, Like, you know,
he's he says the water no matter, like if the
(02:01:49):
water rises, the boat will float. But yet he's tied
down right now? Yes, how is he gonna you know,
it didn't make sense to me. No, Like there was
I think it was last night.
Speaker 2 (02:02:00):
There was a video of him where people were like
checking on him right and essentially the boat had already risen.
He was like above concrete. He's like, hey, we're good,
Like what I'm rooting like hell for this guy. Yeah,
I want to see him. There would be nothing better.
Speaker 23 (02:02:15):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:02:16):
I seen the hurricane passes an interview from him. Yeah, listen,
this thing is going to cause a lot of destruction.
It's going to hurt people, and it's really sad and
would be a nice wind for us if we're able
to see that Dan made it through.
Speaker 2 (02:02:30):
Yeah, there are like scenes of people that waited too
long to try to leave and now they're like stuck
on the highway and there's no gas.
Speaker 3 (02:02:38):
And I saw a video of somebody that basically saran
wrapped a brand new corvette that all, it's not how
that works, so that's not gonna work.
Speaker 2 (02:02:48):
I uh, I don't know. I can you imagine, like
you you you pack up all your belongings and you
try to evacuate and now you're stuck in your car.
Speaker 3 (02:02:57):
Can imagine you can't go anywhere. There's tornadoes all over
the place. Right now, as yeah starts to blow in,
I think it's going to be this afternoon yep or
tonight that it's going to make landfall. But it's even
scary if it makes landfall at night, right, Oh yeah,
give me the daytime please for sure. The whole thing's
just really scary. I'm rooting like hell for Lieutenant Dan. Yeah,
and I think that's one of the great nicknames of
(02:03:18):
all time for him to be called a Category five
Florida man. Yeah, I think that's fantastic, very well said.
So shout out to Lieutenant Dan. Best of luck, brother.
Speaker 2 (02:03:28):
We'll get to Mowagger when we come back. He's a
lot like Lieutenant Dan on the home of the Bangles,
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station from the Any Weather
Heating and Dared tim Stars.
Speaker 1 (02:03:37):
Since he three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's
sports station, It's time for Sincy three sixty quick hits
on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (02:03:48):
All right, welcome back. It's since he three waiting on
MO still. But he doesn't want to get on Aaron's
bad side or he could be fired as well, because
that's what Aaron does. Even though he said today that
him and Robert Soller on good terms. Uh, you couldn't
watch Sunday and tell me that Aaron Rodgers was happy
with his head coach.
Speaker 3 (02:04:06):
By the way, I just want to say I got
a message here from one of our followers who sent
me a link that apparently Lieutenant Dan has abandoned his vessel. Really, Uh,
the Florida the Tampa chief of police got him to
leave apparently.
Speaker 2 (02:04:24):
I don't believe it. I don't know if I believe it.
I don't believe it either. That's according to TMZ. All right,
but well now that they're just to be just yeah,
just to be I don't want to finish the show,
you know, as accurate as we can about the status
Lieutenant Dan.
Speaker 3 (02:04:38):
Yes, also while we wait for Moe to come in here, yeah,
which I told MO three minutes and then uh.
Speaker 2 (02:04:43):
MO has been busy today. MO was part of a.
Speaker 3 (02:04:45):
Lieutenant Tom started talking to him. So we got our
own Lieutenant Dan in our offices. Mo was most part
of a world record today. He was Fountain Square.
Speaker 2 (02:04:57):
What was the record?
Speaker 3 (02:04:58):
A number of time times you'd post a hashtag about
eating cheese Coney's.
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
I think, man, I believe it was the first time
it was done. Yeah, most of the They captured the
record within about thirty seconds. Okay, well that's good, and
I just I can't imagine what it's like being there.
Have you ever been in person for a world record
to be broken? I don't think so. I can't imagine
what the scene was down there at Fountain Square, which
(02:05:23):
I hope we had an extra minute or so to
talk to Mo about it. Had a couple of maybe
bringing a few more back for us. I thought so,
but did not h There is hockey on tonight, and
I believe we get college football tonight. I believe there
is some college football. Yeah, I think this action happening
there is. I don't know if it's maction yet. It's
New Mexico State and Jacksonville State not at maction yet,
(02:05:45):
rich Rod, Yeah, we do have mo here fresh off
a Guinness World Record breaking attempt today. It was unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (02:05:53):
Speaking of action, yeah, you know, I'm I'm putting myself
in a cocoon on election day. Yes, NFL trade deadline
ends at four that I got to do a show
while the deadline is happening. On election night, I'm thinking
about driving to Munsey, Indiana for ball State versus Miami action.
I like that, you guys and Austin, you're a Miami fan.
(02:06:13):
I root for the RedHawks to do well. Yeah, well months,
he's not too far from here. I can get off
the air and probably may kick off with.
Speaker 3 (02:06:19):
I've know somebody at ball State could probably hook Au Saus.
Speaker 6 (02:06:22):
So I'm thinking about, like, this is going to be
my sports cocoon because then I'm taking the next day
off smart go to Baltimore Smart. So I'm putting myself
in a sports cocoon for the week of election Day.
Speaker 3 (02:06:33):
I think Thursday, you could rather be on Twitter during
the election, than go to Baltimore.
Speaker 6 (02:06:39):
Well, the Bengals playing Baltimore, and you haven't been to
Baltimore obviously because it is a fun town. Oh here's
what I want to know. Where do people find the
time to just develop such a wide variety of expertise,
because you know, we're trying to figure out what's going
to happen on Saturdays. You see to play against the
u c F in Orlando, and I'll tell you what
(02:07:01):
I thought. You know what never fails. I can always
find hurricane experts. I can find experts on anything by
going to social media, where you can find experts on
any number of things, and often it's the same people
who are experts on everything. I didn't realize that I
follow so many hurricane experts.
Speaker 2 (02:07:18):
It's unbelievable. Have you followed along at all with Lieutenant
Dan no the Tampa resident who's living on his sailboat
and he will not leave.
Speaker 6 (02:07:26):
I'm praying for Lieutenant Dana be okay and not following
along with him, But I really it's it's amazing to
look at the the number of people who you know,
could really break down absolutely the path of the storm
and can tell you specifically where it's going to hit,
what the damage is going to be, what the financial
toll might be, and specifically, how emergency resources in the
(02:07:50):
Orlando area may be dispersed among the state.
Speaker 2 (02:07:54):
It's it's it's a great resource. We will probably know
something in the next twenty four hours about Saturday, extreame.
Speaker 6 (02:08:00):
I think we'll know something by the time you and
I are talking tomorrow afternoon.
Speaker 2 (02:08:04):
For you this afternoon, what are you going to be
talking about?
Speaker 5 (02:08:06):
You know?
Speaker 6 (02:08:07):
We say in the in the stock market game, of course,
which I'm a huge expert, by low Sell High, Yes so,
and we do this and the sports talk radio game
by low Sell High. Is anybody else going to buy
low in the Bengals because I am okay, I'm buying low.
Play play the stock market game, okay.
Speaker 2 (02:08:26):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (02:08:26):
Terry Francona got Terry Francona got hired by the Reds,
and well we were maybe gonna have them on today,
but we're not. And I'm okay with this because we're
gonna have them on later. But I think there are
two things. There are two lessons we could draw from
Terry Francona being hired by the Reds. One you could
apply to everyday life, and one you have to apply
(02:08:48):
to the local baseball team. So we're gonna have some
fun with that. And I might actually call meteorologists. I
might call our guy Brandon Spider and just say or
I don't know, Jennifer catch Mark, yeah, or somebody else
at Channel nine ye forgot his name, forgot his man
(02:09:11):
and ask like Cameron Harden, Yes, and what do I
need to know about the Randy Rico? Randy Rico? I
think we have to use Channel nine people because that's
our like our weather station. I love Randy Rico, sure,
my favorite Tri State media personality or news personnelity.
Speaker 2 (02:09:29):
My question is this, and not so much a question.
I've loved watching the baseball playoffs and awesome last night
was awesome again, so cool to see what the metro doing.
I told Austin earlier, if he hadn't been on your
team before, on your current team, you would hate Jesse Winker,
just why you would hate That's the type of player
you hate, but you won on your team. Was wearing
a grill post game? Awesome. I'm watching last night in
(02:09:50):
like the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth inning of that Padres
Dodgers game. And I see it happening all throughout the playoffs.
We we spent a ton of time talking about starters
and needing big bats. You want to playing the postseason,
you better have some dudes that come out of the bullpen. Yeah,
and both teams did less. Oh my god. I mean
those those innings just went by. Yeah, like that because
those dudes come in and shut stuff down.
Speaker 6 (02:10:08):
It was funny because I watched very closely the first
four innings, and then I was doing some stuff and
suddenly the game was on the top of the eighth Yeah, right,
and just coming and mow them down. Yeah, you're you're
you're right about that.
Speaker 2 (02:10:20):
I like this. They're they're doing these in game interviews. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:10:23):
So ti Oscar Hernandez hits a Grand Slam, and the
interview in the dugout is like, how did it feel
to hit the Grand Slam?
Speaker 2 (02:10:28):
Terrible? Awesome, terrible? All right, Well, back to you guys
in the booth. Yeah, Fernando Tatis Junior is on fire,
Aaron Judge can't be found. Is the truth that just
sometimes the lights are too bright.
Speaker 6 (02:10:40):
Could be for you know, there is a long list
of great players for whom the postseason has been a
struggle good Clayton, Kershall, Alex Rodriguez, Greg Maddox. No, not
that those players haven't had big postseason moments, but if
you look at their numbers in relation to what they
typically do in the regular season, those are players like
(02:11:00):
that who have had a lot of bad series.
Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
Mookie Betts, who.
Speaker 6 (02:11:03):
Finally got on track with the home run last night
that jerks and profile nearly robbed from him.
Speaker 2 (02:11:09):
But it is.
Speaker 6 (02:11:10):
It is sort of strange, but like we you know,
if you go back the Reds back in the day
used to advance in the postseason nineteen ninety five, Reggie
Sanders whiffs like twelve times in a four game series
sweep in a year where he got MVP votes. But yeah, man, like,
especially on a team like the Yankees, where you're expected
to be in the postseason every year, where you're probably
going to be in the postseason every year, you're judge,
no pun intended by how you do in the postseason,
(02:11:33):
and he has been a dud in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
Let's make some money for tonight. Okay, it's time for
a Cincy shirt. Visit the stores in Hyde Park. Love never.
Speaker 6 (02:11:52):
Com because I was looking for him, like I get
a plan that night, like what what what is on?
Speaker 2 (02:11:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 34 (02:12:00):
Right?
Speaker 4 (02:12:00):
What action?
Speaker 6 (02:12:01):
And then I'm like, well, wait, I could go to
that game. Yeah, I could go to that game. Ticket's
probably still available, Ticket's probably available, probably not that expensive,
and just taking some college football while the rest of
the country is losing its mind.
Speaker 2 (02:12:12):
And unplugging the rest of the world. Yes. Uh, if
you were receiving right now, if you're picking right now,
sports cocoon, who represents the AL in the NL in
the World Series? Based on where things stand right now,
I'm not betting against the Padres.
Speaker 6 (02:12:24):
We did the Locks of the Night sort of mini
baseball preview, and I picked them in three different postseason Yeah,
three different World Series matchups, and l.
Speaker 2 (02:12:32):
I like the Padres a lot. I'm a hard time
picking the al right now.
Speaker 6 (02:12:35):
I think the Guardians actually have the best team. Okay,
I think said I think the Guardians actually have the
best team. The Yankees thumpers at the top of the
order are struggling. I'll go Cleveland, San Diego. Okay, what
do you like tonight? I'm gonna go Jacksonville State team
total over thirty eight and a half.
Speaker 2 (02:12:56):
If you like the Jacksonville state team total over. I
like the over for the game fifty seven and a half.
Very good, give me that. Do you like anything in baseball?
Do the Mets close them out? Sports cocoon know that
goes five? Okay? I want all four series to go five? Okay,
wouldn't that be cool? You think the Padres? How about this?
I Austin mentioned this earlier. Dodgers spend a billion dollars.
They're gonna go into an elimination game tonight with a
(02:13:18):
bullpen game. Yeah, and you still like them over? Dylan
SE's no, I want a game five. I like the
Padres tonight, but you're not making that a lock of
the night. No, okay, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (02:13:29):
But I I invested pretty heavily in San Diego in
three different World Series props.
Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
Yeah, so I basically need I got.
Speaker 6 (02:13:37):
I got San Diego, Cleveland, San Diego, and the Yankees.
Roy do not have Detroit or Kansas. Okay, I had
Baltimore because the value hasn't said value was ridiculous. All right,
We're done mode next sports cocoon. Weby in the sports
cocoon here soon Hurricane experts. Hurricane experts coming up from
three to second they invited to the sports cocoon. Anybody
(02:14:00):
who wants to leave and go to Munseie for sports
cocoon night on election night to watch the Cardinals and
the RedHawks.
Speaker 2 (02:14:08):
Allowed in the stadium. No, you can't take your phone
because then you're gonna be looking up resulting.
Speaker 6 (02:14:12):
You if you're gonna drive to Munsey, Indiana to watch
a maction game on election night, are you really all
that juice into what's happening in the election?
Speaker 2 (02:14:22):
I love watching the smartboard guys. Save Karnaki. No, no, no, no, no.
John King, you're a John King guy. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:14:29):
He goes to all the counties and tells you everything
about every county in America.
Speaker 2 (02:14:32):
It's kind of cool.
Speaker 6 (02:14:33):
You just think about John King, right, Like he married
h Dana bash Right from CNN.
Speaker 2 (02:14:38):
They got divorced and they still work with each other.
That's a tough one man, dude. I don't know what's worse.
Speaker 3 (02:14:44):
I don't know anything about those people year round, but
every four years, he knows every county in America.
Speaker 2 (02:14:50):
For four years.
Speaker 6 (02:14:50):
Every day and at your wife are going to work
every day and at your ex wife, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (02:14:54):
Good for him, good point.
Speaker 6 (02:14:57):

a big board.
