We'll also take phone calls five to one to three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty as normal. A lot on the Cincinnati Reds
this time of the year. The Reds shut out last
night through seven innings, despite twenty four of the day before.
(01:30):
They lose six to three to Max Meyer and the
Miami Marlins. And I say Max Meyer first, because he
was absolutely fantastic. He struck out fourteen Reds on the night.
We'll have some Terry Francone audio will recap the game,
we'll look ahead to what's next, and Lance McAllister tweeted out,
are a little bit of a deep dive into some
of the contracts that the Reds have given out that
(01:53):
they've missed on, and you wonder if some of those
misses have caused this organization to maybe not want to
spend and attack the way that folks think that maybe
they should. We'll look at the rotation, we'll look at
some starting pitching, if there's any questions along that sense.
But we got a lot on the Cincinnati Reads today. Obviously,
(02:14):
we're creeping closer to the NFL Draft Round one takes
place Thursday night. That is going to be a normal
day for us here at noon to three, and then
we're gonna head down to the Holy Grail. Coverage of
wlw's Draft Nights starts at six o'clock with Lance McCallister
and Rocky Boyman Mowagger and I from eight to ten,
(02:36):
Austin Ullmore and Chick Ludwick from ten to midnight, all
happening down at the Holy grailse We have everything to
get you ready for the draft. We got some Zach
Taylor audio from yesterday, some mock drafting. We'll look at
some Round one predictions, not only for the Bengals, but
Round one as a whole. Obviously, some intriguing players out there,
some big boards and more to get to as it
relates to the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL Draft. Joe
(02:58):
Daneman from Fox nineteen will join us at one o'clock
as well. I do have sad news to get to
at the start of the show here, and I'm just
getting this from the University of Cincinnati. This is just
being released that the athletic department at the University of
Cincinnati is mourning the loss today of freshman football student
(03:21):
athlete Jeremiah Kelly, who passed away unexpectedly at his residence
early Tuesday morning. Scott sadderfield his quote, the Bearcat football
family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding
young man. In the short time Jeremiah spent with our team,
He's made a real impact both on the field in
the locker room. Prayers are with the Kelly family and
(03:42):
those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah. Jeremiah, a
native of Avon, Ohio, graduated from Avon High School, where
he helped the Eagles to a sixteen to zero record
and the school's first state championship in twenty twenty four,
earning first team All Conference and All District honors. Named
an S. W. C Lynman of the Year, one of
Ohio's top twenty five prospects, he was an early enrollee
(04:05):
who was practicing with the football team in the spring semester.
Athletic director John Cunningham said, quote, suffered a heartbreaking loss today.
All of us at UC send our love and prayers
to the Kelly family, and we will do anything and
everything we can to support them and our Bearcat student athletes.
In the difficult days and weeks ahead. Obviously very very
(04:27):
very sad news coming out of Clifton earlier today, with
football player Jeremiah Kelly unexpectedly passing away some other news.
To get to here in segment one of our number
one it was announced earlier today, I believe Tim McGraw
(04:48):
is going to take the stage for the pregame concert
during the MLB Speedway Classic. I almost forgot that this
was happening Austin, just because you get caught up in
the start of the season and then you start looking
at the NFL Draft. I forgot we are going to
get Red's braves at Bristol Motor Speedway on August second.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
How'd you forget? They talk about it every day. I
don't know. I don't know. I just wake up, man,
you know, I thought.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
You know, I've followen along with everything the Reds are
doing and getting ready for the NFL and all the
transfer portal and then boom, don't forget Bristol Motor Speedway.
It's still, yeah, it is. But Tim mcral you can
never go wrong with Tim mcgrawl. I've learned that. To
the pregame concert. Playoff action in the world of sports,
(05:39):
Last night, Hockey Action saw the greatest goalscorer of all time,
Alex Ovechkin, lead the Washington Capitals to an overtime winner.
Last night as the Capitals take game one, three to two.
Winnipeg beat Saint Louis, Dallas beat Colorado, LA beat Edmonton Edmonton,
And in the NBA couple things to mention. One the
(06:03):
Detroit Pistons, and Moe's kind of talked about this in
the times We've talked. In fact, the Detroit Pistons are
a lot better than maybe people have realized. They go
into New York Madison Square Garden, they win it last
night one hundred to ninety four. They even up the
series and in the Western Conference first Round. I think
this is the best series to date. The Clippers. Last
(06:25):
night they beat the Denver Nuggets one oh five, one
oh two. The Joker is one of the most phenomenal
players in all of basketball. I watched this game from
start to finish last night. The Joker at a triple
double twenty six, twelve and ten. But a lot of
people I don't even think they realize Kawhi Leonard is healthy.
(06:46):
And when Kawhi Leonard is healthy, he's a top five
player in the NBA last night, fifteen of nineteen from
the field, thirty nine points, five assists, two steals, a block,
a couple rebounds, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to a
row to win in Game one against the Denver nug
or a Game two against the Denver Nuggets, making that
series one to one. But somehow, some way, Austin, that
(07:10):
wasn't the biggest news from the NBA. Did you see?
Nico Harrison finally allowed reporters to ask questions and film
things I did. His answer to one of the questions
about Luca was that he quote didn't know the fans
level of love for Luca. How can you miss that?
Speaker 3 (07:32):
If you knew Luca was important to them, but not
to this level?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Correct? He was asked point blank, why shouldn't you be fired?
To the answer he gave of you know, guys got hurt,
give it till next year. I just don't understand, with
how much public outrages out there, how it ever gets
better for Nico Right?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah, No, it's it's not going to his legacy. Is
the worst trading in NBA history. Yeah, and unless they
turn around and win like three titles nobody's going to care,
you know. It's it's just kind of embarrassing for the MAVs.
It's embarrassing for him. He fired somebody who was I
think back here in Ohio visiting his mom who was
about to die, fired him over a video call and
(08:17):
basically said he was too negative. AKA, he's not a
yes man. Right, It's just, you know, the character of
Nico Harrison is coming out over and over and over again,
and I just honestly, I mean, I know nobody here cares,
but I feel bad for Dallas Maverick Fiyes.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, I mean, you put it. I think when the
trade happened, it would be the Bengals essentially moving on
right now from from Joe Burrow, just up and up
and moving on from Yeah, and just citing outlandish reasons why.
It just it's remarkable still that that this is still going.
But the longer the Lakers have success and continue to play,
(08:55):
the more people are going to talk about The Lakers
are in action tonight. From an NBA standpoint, they are
one of three games Bucks, Pacers, Grizzlies, Thunder, Timberwolves, Lakers,
all happening tonight in the National Basketball Association the Browns
and the Giants. This is the latest draft buzz going
on right now. The Browns with the number two overall
(09:18):
pick and the Giants with the number three overall pick
are at least listening at least listening to phone calls
as it pertains to those picks individually, not saying that
they're gonna take them or make a trade with them,
but at least they will pick up the phone and
listen if you call and are interested in the number
(09:40):
two or the number three draft pick. Other NFL news,
Cam Jurgens got a hefty, hefty extension from the Philadelphia
Eagles four years, sixty eight million. He becomes austin, the
fourth Philadelphia Eagle offensive lineman in the last calendar year
(10:03):
to receive a contract extension. The organization just they have
figured out a way to do it. They extend their
best players, they've nailed in the draft, and they've been
aggressive at times from a trade and free agency standpoint,
and it feels like everything they do, everything they touch,
turns to gold.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Right now. Most of those dudes are home grown. They
also have the best offensive line coach in the league
in Jeff Stotland, whose assistant coach I think just got
his own job as an offensive line coach across the
league as well. So yeah, much of team building has
been perfected by the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
We also earlier today received a confirmation that Hamilton County
and the Bengals have struck a preliminary deal on the
stadium renovations. Now, I know you were talking about this
leading up to the show, Paul Danner Junior tweeted out
aboun hour ago. It doesn't mean anything is finished. There
(10:58):
is work still to be done, but it's good news
on the stadium front. And the words in this release
that stand out I think more than anyone quote worked together,
which if you follow along with this and what Paul
Daner Junior tweeted out, that is substantial considering where this
started just a short time ago.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Yeah, the big thing with this is that, you know,
there's been these renovation plans for a while, and it
was originally upwards of a billion dollars and they've cut
a lot of that out, stuff that wasn't necessary, stuff
that the Bengals didn't want, stuff that Hamilton County didn't want,
and they got it down to roughly eight hundred and
thirty million dollars. They need to come to an agreement
(11:40):
and finalize agreement by the end of June, or else
the Bengals would likely exercise a two year extension to
the lease. Nobody wants that to happen. That would not
be a good thing. So the fact that they've come
to this agreement of like, Okay, here's what you guys
are going to pay for, here's what the NFL is
going to pay, here's what Hamilton County is going to
(12:02):
pay for. Now we've got to figure out where the
rest of the money comes from. So they've taken significant
steps forward into getting this deal done and getting the
renovations done. The next step is, Okay, where does this
money come from? There are there obviously have requested money
from the state budget, and we talked about that a
(12:24):
little bit last week. That's still very much a work
in progress, and they're trying to get the Ohio Senate
or the Ohio House forgive me if I'm a little
bit fuzzy on the details, but trying to get them
to increase the tax on sports wagering in the state
of Ohio. I think it's at fifteen percent right now.
(12:45):
They want to get it up to twenty percent or
something along those lines. Basically, what they are trying to do.
Hamilton County went to the governor with this. The governor
has kind of increased it, taken it to the next level.
What they're trying to do is create a fund based
off sports wagering taxes that everybody in the state of
Ohio can dip into if they need help with stadium stuff.
(13:08):
The NFL has this already. The NFL has their own
fund that is meant only to help teams that need
money for stadiums. So the NFL is going to be
giving sixty million dollars to the Bengals in Hamilton County
for these renovations. The Bengals are going to be giving
sixty million dollars to these renovations, and Hamilton County is
(13:30):
going to be giving sixty million dollars to these renovations.
So that's one hundred and eighty and they're trying to
figure out where exactly the rest of it is going
to come from. So they're still working on that and
hoping that they can get a little bit of help
from the state and then dip into that fund as
well to figure it out. But either way, today is
very much a positive sign, a step in the right
(13:52):
direction between the Bengals in Hamilton County coming to an
agreement on an extension of the lease that hopefully will
be finalized by ju thirtieth.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
The vote to finalize the agreement, according to Ben Baby,
is pushed to next Tuesday, so obviously something to watch.
But I think, as you alluded to, and as we've
seen throughout social media to this point, the fact that
they've reached this together and that they've put the work
in together is a huge step from the last official
(14:24):
word we got from these two sides. So things seem
to be trending obviously in the right direction. Still think
work that needs to be done.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I think a big reason why it's gotten to this
point is that there is a belief that they can
get and dip into some of that money. Part of
it is you got to be fair, and they just
gave six hundred million to Cleveland. The other part of
it is it makes too much sense to tax the
sports wagering. I mean, in the state of New York
sports betting, those companies are taxed at fifty percent. Ohio,
(14:54):
it's well under twenty and so they're trying to reach
up to that level, get a bunch of that money
from an out of state company that doesn't even operate
in the state, and to be able to tax that
use that as a fund. FC Cincinnati would be able
to dip into it, the Columbus Crew, you know, the Reds,
everybody would be able to dip into that fund. So
it makes a lot of sense. Let's just hope it
(15:15):
actually happens, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
More on the Cincinnati Bengals as we get into our
number three today, we'll talk to Little Bengals with Joe
Daniman as well. Before any of that, some phone calls
from you five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty,
and we'll talk more on a Red's loss in Game
one to the Miami Marlins and how that happened. We
have some Terry Francona audio and more next since he
(15:37):
three p sixty thanks to Skyline Chiley on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Now you're stationing.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Now.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
This ball is well hit by lux. The center field
it is carrying, it is ze bend. It is gone
just to the right of straightaway center field. Yeah, having
lux drives it out of here. That extends his hit
streaked the seven games, and it's his first home run
as a Red.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
All right, a little bit of a bright spot last
night Gavin Lux homering in the eighth inning brought that
to a six' to three. Game that was the third
run of the inning for The Cincinnati, reds who were
behind six nothing going into the. Eighth we can talk
as we get back, here since he three to sixty
(16:30):
thanks To Skyline. Chile we could talk all we want
about The reds play discipline Or Alexis, diaz which we,
will but there are times in baseball that you also
tip your cap to what somebody else. Does And Max,
meyers the former number three overall Pick Charlie, goldsmith alluded
to the way he's using his pitches last. Night you
(16:54):
can see that it feels like things are starting to
come together a little. Bit Max, meyer who last night
in six, innings gave up five, hits did not walk
a single, batter and struck out Fourteen Cincinnati reds in the.
Process and again we'll talk about what The reds did
(17:16):
or didn't do at the, plate and we'll talk about
the pitching, performances but you can tell from watching the
game as well last Night austin THAT i don't think
there are many major league clubs offensively that would have
succeeded Against Max meyer last night with the stuff that
he had.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Going incredibly pitch efficient and a nasty. Slider we talked
about the stat yesterday that players and across baseball are
hitting under one hundred against his slider this, season and
you could tell why last. Night he was living at
the bottom of the. Zone he was starting those pitches,
low and they were falling out of the. Zone they
were fooling. Batters, NOW i think if there's one criticism
(17:55):
of The red's approach to the plate last, NIGHT i
felt like they could have been a little bit more.
AGGRESSIVE i, mean he had like ten strikeouts on fifty
pitches at one, point so they were being. Aggressive he
was also just uper, aggressive like won two, pitchouts three pitch,
Strikeouts like he was basically putting it up there like,
(18:15):
here see if you can hit, it and they. Couldn't
and you, KNOW i said to you before the, SHOW
i haven't really seen a slider like, that a slider
that looks more like a splitter in the way that
it drops. Vertically and he was just doing such a
good job with that pitch and setting The reds. Up
it felt LIKE i got to the point where like
they're like a time and a half through the, lineup
And i'm, LIKE i don't know if they have much,
(18:38):
tonight they're gonna have to start being a little bit more.
Aggressive and it felt like every single time they stepped
up to the plate they were behind in the. Count
and that's a credit To Max, meyer who was JUST i,
mean that was seriously one of the best pitching Performances
i've ever. Seen red swung forty eight times and missed
twenty four of. Them it's not like The reds are
the worst offensive team in. Baseball they. Aren't they have good.
(19:00):
Players we know they just scored twenty four the other.
Day they couldn't figure him, out and they're not. Alone
other teams across baseball have struggled to figure him out
to this.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Point, YEAH i think on that slider in, PARTICULAR i
saw the stat last. Night he threw it twenty one,
times sixteen of those times were. Missed the INABILITY i
think at times for this. Team it's one thing if
you're going to be more. Aggressive it's another thing if you're,
not then you have to have the ability to. FIGHT
i just don't see this ability from this. Offense they
(19:33):
don't fil a ton of pitches, off they don't work
counts a, ton they don't push pitchers pitch counts up
a bunch. It it was frustrating. Scene on the other,
END i believe With Nick lodolo last, night the inability
for him to get guys. Out he cannot at the
(19:54):
current time put guys. AWAY i think twenty four foul
balls last night were off of. HIM i, mean it's
just The reds don't do that to opposing. Pitchers they.
Don't they. Don't you don't see a ton of eight
to nine ten pitch at bats and so, yes you
tip your, Captain Max. Meyer if we talked about the
(20:15):
other side And Nick, lodolo who got in trouble in
that second inning and only lasted five and two, thirds
gave up three earned, runs struck out just. Four if
there's one thing to be concerned about through the first
couple starts of The lodolo, Season, austin would it be
the low number of strikeouts because he does lack the
putaway pitch right, now and it's one thing guys are
(20:38):
putting it in, play but continuing to file the ball.
Off it's eating up the pitch count and not allowing
him to go extremely deep into.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Games uh, YEAH i think the big thing is where's
what's his put away. PITCH i think that's the number
one thing right, now and that he's struggling to get.
THAT i, mean he's gotten a lot of ground, balls
he's been. EFFICIENT i didn't think he was that bad last.
NIGHT i thought he pitched well enough for them to,
win but they were just kind of useless and everything.
(21:06):
Else so, YEAH i don't know That i'm like overly
concerned About. Nicolodolo it's just always he never seems to
be in. Rhythm when he is in, rhythm and we've
seen that he's really really good gets the, ball he's throwing,
it he knows what he's, doing he's setting it. Up.
Lise it's tough to spend three days, away have your first,
(21:26):
kid and then just fly down To miami and pitch
against The, marlins even though they're The, marlins which by the,
way they're not the Pushover marlins that we've seen in the.
Past they're a fine. Team he's just, okay he's, Fine
like he's nothing special right, Now he's not in a.
Rhythm and to back up your, claim by the, WAY
i just looked it. Up pitches per plate appearance for The.
(21:47):
Reds the league average is three point nine. Zero the
best team in baseball are The Los Angeles. Dodgers they
are four point zero four pitches per plate. Appearance the
worst team in baseball is The. Athletics they are three
point six four pitches per plate. Appearance the league, AVERAGE
(22:08):
i said is three point. Nine The reds are at
three point. Eight that is the only teams worse than
The reds are The, Padres, Marlins, rangers And a's, okay.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
By the, way all.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Right Revivefitness systems Dot com poll question refers to last night's,
game brought to you By Revivefitness systems Dot com and COACH.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Pj.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Street which was the leading factor in why The reds
lost last? Night was IT a they scored twenty four
Runs SUNDAY B great pitching By, miami c The reds
players stink or d it was just an off. Night right,
now fifty seven percent say great pitching By. Miami we
(22:50):
are tied at second place each with fifteen point two
percent of the Vote reds players stink and off night
and at just twelve. Percent, thankfully they scored twenty four
runs On. Sunday you can vote At audielmore AT espn
fifteen thirty At Tony Underscore pike.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Fifteen what do you make at this point of The
ALEXIS dz? Experience he, Stinks he's stunk for a. While
he came in big On alexis, DAS i haven't been
big on, him and he, stinks AND i want to
see him an inning and a third last night and
at the time it's still just a three to nothing.
Game he pitches an inning in a, third he gave
up four stolen.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
BASES i believe during that time he gave up three
runs on a three run home. Run he hit a,
batter he walked a.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
BATTER i don't know at this point what you do
With alexis Ds AND i don't know If Terry francona
knows at this point what to do With ALEXIS, dz
because he brought him in in the sixth inning to
try to get through the end of the sixth and
into the, seventh and he gave up three, hits a,
walk gave up a three run home. Run his era's
(23:59):
at six seven. FIVE I i don't know IF i
can remember a pitcher in recent, Memory austin THAT i
have less faith in when he comes into the game
right now Than alexis.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Ds the most recent memory would Be Alexis diaz last. Year,
YEAH i mean from the, walks he's just not that
good of a, player and he hasn't been since he
went to The All Star game a couple of years.
Ago he had moments last, year yes he, did but
consistently he hasn't been good since the first half of twenty.
Three are there are there players that you worry about
(24:34):
more than others because it's twenty three games into the,
season AND i know for some it's it's, like, well
you're jumping the gun a little. Bit it's still early.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
On but a lot of guys have gone through some
ups and some downs to this, point back to back
days of No candelario in the. Lineup as we made
mentioned to, Yesterday spencer steeers over four last. Night he's
down to a buck twenty. Five Gavin luck struck out three,
Times Austin hayes TWO la, Three matt McClain To friedel struck.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
OUT i think yesterday yesterday is as much of an
anomaly As sunday. Was, Yeah martinez had two or the four,
hits just the opposite end of the. Spectrum like it's
not very often a guy's going to strike out fourteen
of you through six. Innings it just doesn't. Happen so
but too much into, yesterday, Right that's So i'm.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Saying if you look at the last two, days the
high of scoring twenty four and striking out fourteen times
in six innings last, night and when you look at
water finding the, level where are you more concerned as
it relates to the lineup right?
Speaker 3 (25:32):
NOW i don't really have a ton of, Concerns LIKE
i think we know who they, are don't. We they're
just not good, Offensively they're not great, Offensively they're. Fine,
Offensively they're. NOTHING i, Mean i'm not MAYBE i should,
be But i'm not that worried About Spencer. Steer i'm
pleased WITH. Tj Friedel matt McClean strikes out too, much
(25:57):
and Maybe i'm slightly worried about. Him so why is
there is there more concern With candelario Over steer just
because of what you saw last year With. Candelario, yeah,
YEAH i mean this. Happens you get over the age
of thirty and you make a lot of money and
sometimes you fall. Off that happens across baseball And candelario,
(26:20):
now historically he's much better hitter in the month Than.
May but If Terry francona is, like, LISTEN i don't
have time to wait on, you and he's playing, sparingly
then is he ever going to get into a? Rhythm
is he ever going to? Play and in the, meantime
if you do want to play him every, day can
you risk that is he good? Enough are? You are
you good enough around him to wait through the crap
(26:42):
until he becomes good? AGAIN i don't know that they are,
Right SO i Mean candelario to me is kind of
a lost.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Cause stands up to sixty four played appearances this year
at a buck twenty, five just a one home run
started playing the infield. Again how long would it have
to go before there was a legitimate concern at the
place at the plate With spencer's.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Steere i'd like to see where he's at after another two. Weeks,
SEE i, mean look at a hundred of bats and
see where he's At, yeah something along those.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
LINES i mean last year to twenty five from the,
plate but he did hit twenty home runs and had ninety.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
TWO RB a lot of bad luck last, Year, Yes
so he's not had the same explosiveness off the bat this.
Year to, me it's still too early to freak out over. Him,
YEAH i think. IT'S i, mean do you feel good
About Gavin.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
LUX i feel pretty good About? Gavion.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Yeah do you feel good About Austin? Hayes Aout Austin. Hayes,
Okay do you feel good About? Ellie doesn't feel like
he's taken significant strides forward at the?
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Plate, yeah for as much as we heard in the
off season and in spring, training feels like the strikeout
numbers are already creeping back up. There he's watching too
many strike.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Threes we're at the point where teams have adjusted to,
him and now it's up to The reds And ellie
to adjust to. That francona talked about that that a
lot of times in fastball, Counts ellie doesn't see, fastballs
and he's.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Number two in baseball by the, way thirty three.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Strikeouts, yeah so he's Been he's being pitched very differently
than what he has in the, Past And francona said
in the pregame, yesterday he feels Like Austin, hayes as
long as he continues to be solid behind, him is
going to Help ellie in the. Lineup AND i agree with.
THAT i feel good About, HAYES i feel good About,
TRAVINO i feel good about, LUX i feel better About.
(28:29):
Freeley i'm a little bit concerned about. McClain i, mean,
OVERALL i feel good About. Freedel, OVERALL i think there's more,
bad there's more good than. Bad but it's not, like,
oh they're not going to go score fourteen runs a.
Game it's just not gonna. Happen they might not score
(28:50):
five runs a. Game right, now the best team in
baseball is The Chicago cubs at six runs a. Game
the league average is four point. Three The reds are
fourth In Major League baseball and runs per. Game, yeah
at five point three, obviously or twenty four run. Outing
(29:10):
let's say you knock that down to a ten. Runouting
they're still in the top, ten probably in the top.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Twelve BUT i think looking at, them they're not a
top ten offense In Major League.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Baseball, Yeah, No no one's saying that they. Are but
they're doing enough right now and when they have good,
pitching that's enough to.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Win has the last time through the rotation soured any
of the starting Pitching we've talked about. It you're just
gonna have those. Outings outside Of Andrew abbott was, fantastic
it wasn't as sharp From Hunter. Green Nick, martinez the
guy we've talked about a lot and questioned a. Lot
you could even maybe get Into brady's singer a little
(29:47):
bit in his last, Outing But I'm i'm still great
with where the starting pitching. IS i do think they'll
have A Nick martinez question to answer at some point
in the first half of the. Season find out.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
TONIGHT i, mean if he pitches poorly again Against miami
and you really got to have that. Conversation, UH i
believe it UNTIL i see it WITH i won't believe
it UNTIL i see it With. Lodolo can he consistently
stay healthy and can he start striking people? Out? Martinez
i'm just kind of, indifferent, like, yeah there's something, there
(30:19):
BUT i don't know if a starting role is for.
Him feel good About, abbott feel good About, singer feel
good About. Green nothing change on.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Those, yeah let's take a, break let's come. Back we'll
open up the phone. Lines we've got Some Terry francona.
Audio we'll lead this up until one o'clock and then
we'll switch gears and we'll Get Joe daniman on to
talk a little, reds some more on THE Nfl draft

(30:46):
Lot he's got what you, Want, like who's the go to,
guy gonna.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Be, interviews his views and your. Calls go to guy
isn't the team's leading School Loegar today at three ON
espn fifteen.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
THIRTY espn fifteen thirty At iHeartRadio.
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Stations.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Welcome, Back ciny three to SIXTY espn fifteen Thirty Cincinnati Sports,
station a service Of Skyline. Chile anytime you're feeling good
and hungry At skyline, time let's grab a phone call, Here,
mark what's going? On?
Speaker 7 (31:24):
Yeah after that sad time through the, lineup When elie
took that call third strike for the second, TIME i
got frustrated AND i stopped watching the. Game, yeah because
good pictures they do the same thing.
Speaker 8 (31:41):
All the.
Speaker 7 (31:42):
Time they throw that first pitch down the middle of
the play for a strike every. Time they always their
mindset is to get ahead of the hitters and The reds.
Hitters you, KNOW i think that's a big reason why
they can't beat good, pictures or you, know they get
shut out by good pictures because they constantly take that
(32:03):
first pitch for a. Strike you, know that second time
through the, lineup they just start swinging at that first
pitch and then make that picture make an. Adjustment they'll
go up there and have the same approach every of
that and you see the same. Results and especially With,
ellie he just did the same thing with him both
(32:26):
times WHEN i saw both of them. Strikeouts so he
do don't adjust too. Well you, know he can hit bad,
pictures but when he going up against a good picture
and they they throw him a first pitch, fastball he'll
take it for a. Strike and then when they throw
him something soft when they get later on in, account
(32:46):
he'll either foul it off or take it for a.
STRIKE i, mean he just good pictures give him.
Speaker 9 (32:52):
Out, really SO.
Speaker 7 (32:55):
I just got frustrated WHEN i saw BECAUSE i felt
like after that when they got two to nothing and
then that second time through that, LINEUP i had a
feeling that the night wasn't gonna.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Go, well, YEAH i think that's fair. Enough, Yeah, mark
we appreciate The. Carl Thank you don't know if we
Lost mark or. What, look there was a lot out
of spring. Training if you Remember austin of how Selective
elie was at the plate and how he was seeing
(33:26):
more pitches and working more walks could not have been
a bad part as. Well is he at times being
too selective at the? Plate is he allowing too many
pitches to go by because he is watching more and
in turn he's getting himself in pretty tough. Situations and
then you start to overthink things and all of a
sudden you're looking at way too many strike. THREES i
(33:48):
remember it was it was three years, AGO i believe
now at this plate at this, Point Aaron boone when
he when he got ejected from the game and he's
talking about his players, like, man my guys are savages
in the. Box remember? That like that was the mindset they,
had is that they were going to go and they
were going to fight and scratch and claw and be
(34:10):
aggressive every single time that they went up to the,
plate and there are far too many. TIMES i feel,
like and you mentioned watching the lineup last, night it's almost,
awesome like you can watch the first couple batters of a,
game or watch the first time through a lineup and
see if they have it or they. Don't it's not
(34:30):
like on a case the case basis you see them
fight and scratch and. CLAW i feel like you can
tell when a game starts if they're going to have
that at the plate or. Not AND i don't understand
why that, is but it doesn't feel like it's a
group that goes up there and makes life particularly hard on.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Pitchers CAN i play a clip for you and get your?
Reaction this Was terry francona pregame.
Speaker 10 (34:51):
Yesterday, well the fact That hayes is seeing the ball
so well right now really is going to help because
if they want, to if they're going to pitch Around,
ellie that's okay because his speed is such a part
of his, game And hayes is swinging the back and
then he got lucks behind, him so it should help
us regardless of what.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Happens can you.
Speaker 11 (35:10):
See pitchers and even catchers for that, matter changing the
way they go about things When ellie gets on.
Speaker 10 (35:17):
Base, Yeah AND i actually can see When ellie's. HITTING i,
mean he gets pitched differently than any other guy on our.
Team and you, know in a fastball, count you don't
see him get too many, fastballs and then you can
see him start to, think and then he gets maybe
every once in a, while who get tied up with
a fastball because they've thrown him so many off speed?
Speaker 11 (35:35):
Pitches does all that kind of the longer this goes
With hayes hitting well and you, know teams not wanting
to walk because he can turn it into two. Bases
does that eventually or should it eventually lead to him
getting more pitches to?
Speaker 10 (35:48):
Hit, YES i definitely agree with, that and just his
experience of going through this and the way he gets
pitched because he's talented enough or he'll make the.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Adjustment, YEAH i mean the idea is that having a
better batter in front and behind does not allow a
pitcher to pitch around In ellie Dalya cruz AND i
certainly see the point of you see so few fastballs
that you start to get in your own head and you, think, okay,
well If i'm not getting, fastball surely they're not going
(36:17):
to throw me one over the plate with two. Strikes
they're gonna want me to. Chase and next, thing you,
KNOW i, mean realize the split second decision you have
to make as a, hitter how fast that ball comes,
in how little time you. Have if your mind is
second guessing, anything you're. Done AND i do think ONE
(36:39):
i Think ellie puts a lot of pressure on. HIMSELF
i think he saw a lot about working the count
and that. Nature but you have to take the best
pitch you're going to get if You're ellie day La,
cruz and if guys are getting on in front of,
you that's. Great If Austin hayes is producing behind, you that's.
Awesome but, yeah you're based on based on his track
(37:02):
record to this, POINT i wouldn't Throw elie de La
cruz a. FASTBALL i would throw the off. SPEED i
would throw the breaking. BALL i would try to get
ahead early and THEN i would try to get him to.
Chase AND i Think ella views every pitcher is wanting
to do, that and that's why you're seeing him watch
so many strike threes go. Right by, YEAH i mean
(37:24):
him not swinging the bat two strikes on close. Pitches
i'm not making an excuse for, that like that's baseball
one on.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
One you have to be better at. THAT i just
look at it and say he's too. Talented we saw
enough in spring, Training we've seen enough over the last
year to say this isn't quite who he, is AND
i expect him to be. Better but it's about coming
up with an. Adjustment that's On Chris vilaka's, plate that's
On ellie's. Plate it helps him to have McClean ahead of, him,
(37:52):
now Healthy hayes behind, him, now Healthy lucks behind. Him
THAT i think in the long run is going to.
Help last, night the guy was just, filthy and we've
seen how it can help in other, ways you, know
in games prior to. That So i'm not overreacting To.
ELLIE i don't know that he's worthy of an overreaction
(38:13):
at the plate right. Now strikeout percentage is too, high,
absolutely but when you look at his other advanced, statistics
he's still it still suggests that he's on pace or
about to have a, really really good. Season so, yeah
last night and the strikeouts looking are. Frustrating BUT i
trust him AND i, trust believe it or, Not Chris
(38:39):
fialaika to come up with adjustments and that, eventually over,
time if the guys behind him continue to pitch well
or continue to hit, well he will get more pitches to. Hit,
now his walk percentage right now is ninth In Major League.
Baseball that's just over league. Average that's. Good strikeout percentage is,
terrible thirty three.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Percent, yeah that was that was the one big talking
point coming into this. Year he struck out too. Much
he's now second baseball in strikeouts after starting the season much. Better,
yeah you, know BUT i think to your, point it
is they started the, year now they, advance scouting is
out and it's up To valaka And ellie to make
the adjustments to the.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Adjustments the other, thing, too is that you remember there
was a time earlier this season when it felt like
he was trying to do everything and he was at
the plate like, GOSH i have to hit, this and
you could just see like the pressure was kind of on.
Him hopefully that goes away As hayes and McClain continue
to perform like. That to me makes me feel like all.
(39:43):
Right if they're able to do, that he can relax
a little bit at the.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Plate, yeah it's gonna be something something to watch because
he's gonna need help along the way to not have
that pressure and put that pressure that comes from, players
comes from. Coaching, hell even could come from moving him
up in the.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Lineup his rookie season in twenty twenty, three he had
a thirty three percent strike at thirty three point seven
percent strikeout. Rate it dropped two percent last year to
thirty one point. Three it's back up to thirty three right.
Now over the course of his, career it's an average
of thirty. Two so just something to keep an eye out.
(40:20):
On i'm trying to find out or see IF i
can find the splits on how he's pitching or how
he's hitting against off speed pitches compared to. Fastballs but either,
Way i'm not too worried About.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Ellie let's take a, break let's come. Back we'll finish

Speaker 3 (42:10):
MINUTES i got a bit of a nugget here for.
You what do you got you ready for?
Speaker 2 (42:13):
This let's.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Go Last, April ellie de La cruz was seeing a
fastball fifty one point nine percent of the. Time this
year he is seeing a fastball forty five percent of the,
Time so a six percent drop in the amount of
fastballs that he is seeing from a year. Ago. YEAH
(42:35):
i don't know that that means, anything BUT i would
just kind of the NUMBER i was looking.
Speaker 2 (42:39):
At IF i were pitching Against ellie day La, CRUZ
i would not throw him many. FASTBALLS i, MEAN i
think you have a higher likelihood of getting him to
chase than you do getting a. Fastball, NOW i do
think there are a lot of folks that would look
at getting that first fastball over because The reds as
a team have been a little bit more selective and
patient at the. Plate but right, Now ellie is he's
(43:02):
not in a good enough spot to be down in
the count as much as he.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
Is he has two hits on off speed pitches this,
year eight hits on breaking, balls and twelve hits on. Fastballs,
yeah just in the month Of, april.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Right, YEAH i wouldn't be giving him a ton to
look at now McClain turns it, Around Austin hayes continues
to do what he. Does, yes all of that is
just going to help from A red standpoint and from
An ellie de La cruz, Standpoint but you, know you
do pigeon hole yourself a little bit if you're not willing.
(43:38):
To at LEAST i would revisit moving him in the
lineup as, well BECAUSE i think there's a stigma that
comes with a three hole hitter of you got to
be a power, Guy you've got to be a guy
that's driving in, runs AND i think one and two
in the order you swing a little, freer you're you're
more concerned with getting on base and seeing what. Happens but,
again it does not sound like that is something The
(44:00):
reds are willing to. Do so you got to kind
of go with with what it. Does As ellie in
the three hole right, now.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
What if it actually is where he's supposed to be.
Hitting what do you, mean, like what if he should
be a three hole? Hitter like we talked.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
About early what In Major League?
Speaker 3 (44:16):
Baseball we talked about earlier this season that they should
move him up And francona. Hasn't friedo's been, Solid McLean's been.
Solid what do you mean McLean has been? Solid he's been.
Fine he's getting on base a, lot his strikeout percentages
up and his batting average is, down but his on
base percentages, up been walking a, lot and he's missed
(44:37):
what two. WEEKS i wouldn't call him. SOLID i think
he's been. Fine what's the difference between fine and? Solid
he's hitting two. Twelve, yeah that's better Than candelario And. Steer,
well THAT'S i, mean that's a lower bar. Set but like,
again a Guy i'm not that worried, about and still
maybe their best hitter In matt. McClean would you say? That,
(45:02):
MAN i don't know right. NOW i don't know IF i. Can,
basically the Point i'm trying to make Is ellie as currently,
constructed is he somebody you want to be giving that extra?
Speaker 2 (45:15):
ONE i still would BECAUSE i, just AGAIN i view
it from a baseball standpoint OF i think three, hole
you put more pressure on yourself to be a home run,
guy and you put more pressure on yourself to have
to drive in. RUNS i think when you hit one and,
two you're just, Hitting AND i think.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
Shouldn't that be the? Mentality regardless though it could, be
BUT i just think mentally it's.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
NOT i, MEAN i AND i AND i think there's
something to be said about the best hitters that we
talk about in baseball and where they hit in the.
LINEUP i think there's a there's a reason why not
many other top players hit three in the. LINEUP i,
mean it would have to be something you kind of,
well then we're having a whole different conversation about this
(45:59):
team and where things.
Speaker 3 (45:59):
Go is he really good but not? Great because he's
not is he the player on their team? Overall, Yes
is he the best hitter on the?

Shows people have convinced me to watch this. Show they've
told me that it's Approaching game Of thrones.
Speaker 15 (47:36):
Level.
Speaker 14 (47:36):
Good i'm a bit skeptical right, now but that's WHAT

greatest video Game i've ever.

Speaker 2 (48:12):

was up there as one of the top episodes from
series in the.
Speaker 14 (48:19):
Past you know how it, goes, though when people build
things up and they tell you how great it. Is
AND i live With game Of thrones on this pedestal
that can't be. Touched and people told me this Approach
game Of. Thrones now good.
Speaker 4 (48:34):
Episode yeah, sure but, man let's.
Speaker 14 (48:37):
Let's let the goat lie fair and the goat right
now is go Ot game Of?
Speaker 2 (48:42):
THRONES i have to ask we go from the highs
and lows often in the sports, world from twenty four
runs with The Cincinnati reds On sunday to zero through
seven innings last, night and a lot of that is
not just on The Cincinnati, reds but you tip your
Captain Max, meyer who was absolutely. Fantastic but in the
(49:04):
grand scheme of, things how do you view the game
to game highs and lows from your standpoint of covering
a team through one hundred and sixty two and seeing
trends and different things that, happened but understanding there's such
a long way to. Go how do you view what
the last two games for The reds were like from
a high and a?
Speaker 14 (49:22):
Low all, right let's unpack this, here AND i fall
back on one of the great quotes That Dusty baker
used to always, say AND i say this often to
people to get excited about one result from one game
or get down and another result from another. Game it's
momentum in baseball is only as good as tomorrow's starting.
Pitcher and you saw the Difference sunday In monday In
(49:43):
baltimore In. Miami and my take on this team has been,
this AND i said This sunday night when talking With
Jeremy row on our New Cincinnati sports show On fox
nineteen about that, PLUG i said, THIS i think this
team is too outcome de pendant based on who they
face on the, mound that when they face a bad,
(50:05):
picture they absolutely hammer bad. Pitchers when they face competitive
to very good, pictures you're seeing a team that right
now isn't hitting well enough in those. Situations AND i
can run down the. Line here you Go, baltimore Right friday,
night they threw a tomato.
Speaker 4 (50:21):
Can he was.
Speaker 14 (50:21):
Bad saturday they threw a, rookie he was. Bad sunday
they threw a guy that was nearly my.
Speaker 7 (50:27):
Age he was.
Speaker 4 (50:28):
Terrible and so The reds hammered these guys and they
won the series In.
Speaker 14 (50:32):
Baltimore but you go back and look at the pitchers
The reds to face this year that have a real baseball,
card right and had real success in the major, Leagues
and you just name. Them The Logan, webs The Nathan,
valdi's The Jack, lyders The Bryce, millers and Now Max,
meyer who looks like a break out. Guy AND i
Know i'm naming very good, pitchers but each of those
pitchers seem to baffle The reds in their own. Way
(50:55):
and so right, now when you play what twenty three
games so far in one hundred and fifty two game,
SEASON i don't know what kind of a sample size
you need to say right, now but right, now it's
just it looks like A red team that when they
face elite pitching can sometimes be, overwhelmed and when they
face bad, pitchers they look like a playoff. Team AND
(51:15):
i think that's gonna be how it plays out for
the rest of the. Season And i'll make this last
point too on The reds offense that if you would
have said twenty three, games end of the, season look
at the stat lines Of Austin, Hayes Gavin lux And Jose,
Travino and if you look at those stat, lines he would,
say oh my, gosh this is the first place team
considering everything else that's around. Him at what point does
(51:37):
that not become as sustainable as it currently is with
these guys hitting at the level they are right. Now
so when those guys eventually drop off a, little and
Maybe Austin hayes, doesn't Maybe Austin hayes hits like a cleanup,
hitter and Maybe Gavin lux takes a new role In
cincinnati and goes out and hits two, ninety and there's
a really good gap to gap guy for this. Team
(51:57):
And Jose travino gives The reds an option Byd Tyler.
Stevenson but if they, don't if they do revert back
to what we think they might, be then you're looking
at an offense that might be in some trouble in
the later part of the, season unless Unless matt McClain
And ellie AND. Tj freed can carry this, offense And
Spencer steer, too Which i'm sure we'll talk.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
About you mentioned you know What hayes And lux And
travine you have. Done you could also throw in what
the starting pitching had been and you, say, yes that's
a surefire first place team in THE Nl. Central they
they've wasted a lot of. That let Me i'll ask,
you because it seems to be that, Okay jamercandelario bad,
place not a good. Hitter he's been out of the
(52:38):
lineup two days in a. Row there seems to be
more indictment there Than, Okay Spencer steer is hitting one twenty,
Five matt McLain is hitting two. Twelve how long do
you allow it to go before you become more concerned
with players that this organization is counting on to be.
Great how long do you give it before it becomes
(53:00):
worrisome and concerning the way you're seeing them approach you.
Speaker 14 (53:03):
Bats, YEAH i think each player is a case by case.
Basis my concern level For matt McClain is. ZERO i
think he's the best hitter on the, team just just
a naturally talented, hitter AND i think that will will
prove itself as the season goes. On i'm not worried
About matt. McClain if he's, healthy he's going to. Hit
(53:25):
my concern level for him is. Zero Jamer candelario is, alarming.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
And it's well.
Speaker 14 (53:32):
Documented he starts to heat up as the season starts
to as the season starts to change Into may And,
june so we'll see if that. Changes BUT i do
think it's very interesting now that he hasn't played two consecutive,
days as As Terry francona tries to kick start this.
Team but, yeah my level of concern On Jamer candelaarrio
was very, high especially considering the money they're paying. Him
(53:53):
Spencer steered and we've talked about him on this. Show you,
know there's a difference between worry and, concern And i'm.
Concerned you, know we talked about that he hitting the
bad luck last, year that he was hitting the ball,
hard it was just going right at. People when he's
still finished with decent power. Numbers here we are twenty
three games into this and we understand what he's coming back,
(54:15):
from what he's dealing, with and he's still hitting so
low in the low one, hundreds and there's no power
and there's no driving in of. Runs my concern level
For Spencer steer is. High he's a very talented. Hitter
we know that when he's, right he's one of the
best hitters on this team and one of the best
run producers in The National League Central but after twenty three,
(54:39):
games how can you look at him and see the
way he's played and not be concerned that he isn't?
Right that the shoulder is somehow affecting him and the
way he's hitting at the, Plate so no concern for.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
Me with, McClain i think you're.
Speaker 14 (54:52):
Seeing maybe a bit of phasing out Of Jamer, candelaria
which is interesting considering how much he's. Making BUT i
am are you concerned About Spencer steer and not just the,
numbers but the way it looks and more of the
analytical numbers that he's just not hitting the ball as
hard as he was last, Year and to me that's
concerning going forward considering what we know about his.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
Shoulder before we move on to The bengals, Here, joe
how do you summarize the first twenty three For ellie
de La. Cruz we talked a lot about spring training
being more, selective not swinging and missing as. Much now
he's second In Major League baseball in. Strikeouts we've seen
the airs that have become a, problem but yet he
does stuff like make the catch On sunday and the
(55:37):
home runs and the stuff at the ballpark that you
have a chance to see each and every given. Night
how do you Summarize ellie's twenty three game start to the.
Speaker 14 (55:46):
Season SO i did a radio hit with a radio
station In baltimore On, friday and they asked me the
same question About ellie day La, cruz AND i told
them that when you go to a game and they're
going to See ellie de La, cruz lot of the
folks In baltimore who are going to the, game we're
going to see him for the first. TIME i, said
you're probably going to see this guy do something you've
(56:06):
never seen before on a baseball. Field and the guy
goes hits the ball at the top of the wall
for a home run and then makes Like superman and
makes a diving catch in the infield like he. Did
SO i feel justified in the spectacular moments that Make
elie da La cruz kind of the unicorn here In.
CINCINNATI i think what we're watching guys' growing paints that
(56:26):
we just have to deal with and you just have
to grow. Through AND i think we have to understand
too the pressure that's On ellie day La, cruz not
just from the people who watched The reds and talk
about The. Reds we all expect him this year to
be An All star and maybe even maybe it's unfair
that we talk about this guy that he should start
creeping INTO mvp conversations.
Speaker 4 (56:47):
Even at such a young. Age BUT i have to.
Speaker 14 (56:49):
Think how hard it might be for a guy like
him who has internal, pressure not from internally inside, him
but from inside the. Organization, right organization has put a
lot on this guy to play, shortstop to hit, third
and to have a. TEAM i don't want to say
the team is built around, him but this is The
elle window it has talked, about and the guy's a
(57:11):
human being and he understands the pressure that's on this
team and subsequently on him as a young player to
be one of the aircraft carriers for this. Organization and
that's a hard thing for a young guy who's still
trying to figure out his, game who's still trying to
iron out the edges of his. Game SO i think
you're going to see moments like this where he's taking
(57:33):
too many, pitches where he makes errors in the. Field
that's all part of a young guy figuring it. OUT
i Think ellie just we just have to understand with,
him he's going to go through growing pains and we
just kind of have to wait it out before he
becomes a full FLEDGED mvp candidate that we think he's
going to be in the.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
Future as we switch gears to TO Nfl Draft week
And thursday. Night what this, means obviously for The Cincinnati,
bengals had an opportunity to get in the locker room,
yesterday talked to some. Players we are From Duke, cobin
heard From Zach. Taylor any huge takeaways that you took
from yesterday as it relates to maybe this week and
going forward for The.
Speaker 14 (58:11):
Bengals, yeah here we, go, right this is a big
week for The. Bengals this is and let's not try
to dance around. This this is an absolutely massive week
and a massive draft for The Cincinnati bengals because of
what happened in free. Agency when you Hear Duke tobin
talk yesterday and he talks about a guy who said
(58:32):
free agency went, well he said they added a starting
level nose, tackle a linebacker was starting, experience an interior
offensive lineman was starting, experience and that they don't imagine
this draft is going to be full of guys they
plug and play as. Starters it kind of feels now
a little bit Like i'm Watching, moneyball. Though the way
(58:53):
The reds approached or excuse, me The bangle was approached free. Agency,
LOOK i get, It jamar T joe that they make
a ton of. Money, look we can't dance around that,
Too but it kind of felt like The bengals went
into free agency and didn't do as much as we
hope they would, do and that the draft week would
be massive for this. Team so here we are now
(59:16):
just two days away and curious how The bengals are
going to approach this. DRAFT i maintained all along the
only way the team's going to rebuild its defense is
through the. Draft but when you talk to and listen
To Duke, Tobin Zach, taylor and then even talk inside
the locker, ROOM i think you're looking at an organization
who expects a lot of these young guys who are
(59:36):
already on the roster to be the difference, makers the
guys to make the. Jump AND i know that might
be frustrating To bengals, fans but you can name. Them
it's The Chris jenkins and the McKinley, jackson's and The Jordan,
battles and THE Dj turners and The Josh newtons And
Dax hill coming back from. Injury these are Guys Miles
murphy that they're relying on and are comfortable relying on
(59:59):
to make the kind of jump to take this team
from a defense that kept him out of the playoffs
to a defense that can pair.
Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
With an offense and win a.
Speaker 14 (01:00:07):
Championship i'm, skeptical and that's why this draft feels so
massive for me and for The Cincinnati bengals because of
WHAT i perceived to be holes on the defense that
they can't fill with guys who are already on the.
Roster so it's going to be. Fascinating it's an absolutely massive,
week a huge draft for a ready Made Super bowl
(01:00:28):
contending offense that need the defense to add some talent
and get some guys who can be difference makers BECAUSE
i don't think there's enough right now in that locker
room for this team to win A Super.
Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Bowl do you think that correlates to number seventeen being
a defensive player or is there any scenario that you
can see unfolding where they would draft, Offense because you,
know if they were to draft offense with number, seventeen
the pushback would be very. Loud but do you see
any scenario that they could address something offensively at number?
(01:01:01):
Seventeen it would be.
Speaker 14 (01:01:04):
Loud but let let me ask you, this and let
me ask all The bengals fans listening to. This if
The bengals invested on a stud interior offensive lineman or
even an offensive tackle they can move inside to better
Protect Joe. Burrow what In cincinnati sleep comfortably at night
knowing The bengals are doing everything they can to Protect Joe.
(01:01:24):
Burrow it's, see you have one, job, Right you've Got Joe.
Burrow now make Sure Joe burrow can do his job
by being. Protected SO i think there's a world that
does exist where if The bengals were to draft and offensive,
LINEMAN i think people would be okay with. It there's
a buzz About Colston, lovelin, right and you can Blame
James rapine for, that AND i think it's a great
(01:01:45):
thing to talk about and a fun. Thing and you,
know it's have all the weapons in the, world, right
and just try to outscore.
Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
Everybody that's. Fun that's. Great that that's.
Speaker 14 (01:01:54):
Not going to win you A Super. Bowl it's Like
Kevin poster And Draft. Day the piece of paper in
my pocket would say draft defense no matter, what and
not just in the first. Round i'm saying at least
five of the six. Picks if not four of the
six picks have to be, defense they have to keep
taking swings to get, playmakers to get difference. Makers the
(01:02:18):
guys in the room yesterday talked about the importance of
What Al golden's telling them that bald disruption is one
of the main pillars of what he wants to do.
Defensively how many guys on that team are bald disruptors
right now currently in the locker.
Speaker 4 (01:02:34):
Room not, Enough there's not.
Speaker 14 (01:02:36):
Enough The bengals have to find ways to keep taking
swings to add talent and add difference makers to the
defense BECAUSE i don't think there are enough in the
room right.
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
Now we've seen them change their stance on a lot
of things the last few. Years do you think the
amount of money that they have invested in The Big
three changes the way that they value the guard position
because they've never historically value you. Did does that change
now that you've spent so much money on the other
parts of the.
Speaker 16 (01:03:04):
Offense it's, interesting right because you, know you can have
all these great, gadgets but if the car doesn't turn on,
right you can't take the car out of the.
Speaker 14 (01:03:13):
Highway If Joe burrow doesn't have time to. Pass he
can't use all these. Weapons and you, know with this,
idea often of guard is it a non premium, Position
but it feels like a premium position, Here, yeah In,
cincinnati just because it's never been addressed correctly by The,
bengals and there's a chance here to kind of add
(01:03:35):
the final stone and the final infinity stone to an unstoppable.
Offense would would be an offensive guard that they can
step in and play at an elite, level because then
you have pretty much everything you need for this offense
to be one, of if not the best offense in THE.
Nfl but at the same, time it's hard to say
(01:03:56):
when you have just the one hole on offense compared
to this so many holes on. Defense but, YEAH i
see your point where, it's, look we've invested so much
money and all these other, parts why would we not
invest the money in the one last. Part we need
to make sure all the other parts can function. Correctly
and that's the fascinating to me about this. Draft it's
(01:04:17):
it's like the one piece that's missing for them on,
offense but the so many pieces they have to fix on.
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
DEFENSE i also wanted to read for you a quote
From Duke tobin and see if maybe you could translate
it for, Me is that all? Right, QUOTE i don't
think our team absorbs right now as we sit a
bunch of rookie. Starters does that mean they're going to
like draft projects and high upside.
Speaker 16 (01:04:42):
Guys that's just the thing you say, that because that's
the exact same quote that's currently sitting in my notes
app on my. Phone it's worded interestingly right the way
he said. It it's worded Very Duke tobin.
Speaker 14 (01:04:59):
Like but my takeaway from you is this is WHAT
i said, earlier that this team is banking on massive
leaps from the so many young players on defense they already,
have look at. Seventeen if that guy's not stepping in
right now and being a difference maker in year, one
that's a mess yep that The bengals aren't good enough
(01:05:19):
right now defensively to add a guy for a red shirt.
Year so whatever it, is even if he plays offensive,
guard that The bengals are drafting.
Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
That guy to be a. Starter so to his, quote, yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:05:33):
They're not looking for six, starters they're not looking for four,
starters but they better be getting one starter at least
in the first round and maybe another guy On day
two that can step in right away and help this
team In week one of the current, season because this
window Of, Burrough chase And higgins can't afford red shirt
(01:05:53):
years of guys getting up to speed and being difference
makers in a couple of.
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
YEARS i feel like it's just the former quarterback in
me that THAT i feel like there's a legitimate, argument
as you, mentioned to secure offensive guard because this thing
doesn't derail if they miss out on a d. Tackle
it doesn't derail if they miss out on a d
N this derails if number nine can't. Play and and
in the back of my, mind that's WHY i hold
(01:06:21):
guard to such a higher spot THAN i do the other.
Positions AND i wish it would have been addressed from
a free agency. Standpoint but with that being, said and
what you've been able to gather at this, point do
you have do you have a, lean do you have a?
Field do you want to go on record On tuesday
of who The bengals are taking On? Thursday oh, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
Okay let's do. It let's stamp it, here let's let's
throw it. Down what it's.
Speaker 14 (01:06:44):
About CAN i go? Positions Outstanding i'm gonna go position
instead of. Naming, okay come, ON i Believe, okay, fine,
fine but it's gonna being because everybody's Saying Walter. Nolan
and the problem is when you when you read so many,
(01:07:05):
people when you look at so many mock, drafts your
brain kind of tricks itself into thinking that's the. Guy
BUT i did that last year with A Marius mims
and it turned out to be A Marius. MIMS i
read so many places that A Marius mims checks every
box for what The bengals, want and that's where they.
Went Walter nolan to, me feels like the person to bring.
(01:07:25):
It The bengals only have four defensive. Tackles, okay there's only.
Speaker 15 (01:07:29):
Four on the.
Speaker 14 (01:07:30):
Roster they's gotta get guys who can play that. Position
Walter nolan to, me BECAUSE i was down To nolan And.
Harmon there's been some information That harmon might have some medical,
concerns and it seems like that possed up with every
single player of the week of the. Draft SO i
will Say Walter, nolan but let me say.
Speaker 7 (01:07:48):
This let me say.
Speaker 14 (01:07:49):
This in round, TWO i am currently standing on a
table literally in my basement zavir watch safety out Of Notre.
Dame How goolden makes it. Happen The bengals fixed defensive.
Tackle they fix safety in the first two rounds of
(01:08:10):
the twenty twenty FIVE Nfl.
Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
Draft so then they win THE Afc North, right.
Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
Book it Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
It i've wrote all of these things. Down it's obviously
a big. Week what do you have going on this
week for your your guys draft coverage and everything? Else
so this is really.
Speaker 14 (01:08:30):

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
Great, job AND i mean that.
Speaker 17 (01:13:56):
SINCERELY i KNOW i give you, crap Especially, Busted but
my question is. Is don't you think last night's game
they should have been more prepared for, That, like you,
know the coming off that huge amount of. Runs there
seems like there's always that letdown type part that follows,
games like what happened before your?
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
THOUGHTS i don't think that's a, thing but it kind
of goes to most pole question yesterday those folks that
they should have said run stop scoring so many.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Runs you can be prepared for a nasty slider until
you see, it don't got to hit.
Speaker 25 (01:14:32):
IT i tell you, what, brother it'd be very hard
to do your. Job so many people are unhappy with.
Everything you give them a million bucks and still they
would not be happy because of the delivery of the.
Money now back to bigger. Issues how can we help
sincy three to? Sixty conflict resolution, skills friendly? Competitions? Food
(01:14:59):

Speaker 13 (01:16:37):
Here, uh What mark had mentioned about what's frustrating is
when you got certain players come up and they just
sit there and they watch the that that first pitch
they don't. Swing On, saturday When luxe And freley were so, disciplined, work,
work the, plate got the, walk and then the next
batter came up Who i'm talking about swung at the first,
(01:16:58):
pitch and that to me is justice for straighting when
the first two batters work so hard to get on.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Base, FRUSTRATIONS i, Agree.

double Dipping boston And. Tony are you disappointed In peto
Or Frank crone's impact on The red so? FAR i

(01:19:44):
Bases or do we need.
Speaker 4 (01:19:46):
To give him more?
Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
Time more? Time we? ASKED uh had a chance to
Ask Rob dibble last, week And Rob dibble, said for
a manager to kind of get his feel of the
roster and what they, need he, said fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
Games, YEAH i think he needs a little bit more.
Time but also a lot of the players are the
same and the infield coach is the, same and the
Bass pet base coaches are the, same SO i would
look at those as potential.
Speaker 29 (01:20:12):
Issues Tony, Austin, yes, Well, Johnny Presidential Big board is almost.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
Done i've been travel a lot for work.

Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
There.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Yes, ALSO i didn't leave a talkback.
Speaker 29 (01:20:53):
YESTERDAY i didn't do anything yesterday Because sunday is a
holiday for. Me not easier. Folks it's a different. Holiday Flick,
willie he'll tell. You BUT i came to the realization
through the. Weekend oh you're doing. That the reds are
above five hundred At july, fourth fourth Of, July i'm
going to.
Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
Resign if they're.
Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
Not i'm running.

To deal with talkback Matters guy Versus.
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Johnny for a whole.
Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
Summer might be good. Radio we'll see put it on The.
Reds this is What i'm talking.
Speaker 30 (01:21:22):
About, hello this Is Hew, Day bingo's. Mascot i'm down
here in the jungle getting ready for the. Draft i'm
going to get me some. Snacks i'm going to hunt
down At antelope and gets my favorite Beverage Canalope. Antelope
(01:21:44):
steelers And browns fans are. Dopes singles to THE Afc
championship game day.
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
Out you, know some of these are hard. LISTENS i just.
WONDER i think the thought was, there let's be. Different
i'm going to be The hoodei. Mask we've heard him.
Before deliver lot better than. That deliverer's got to be.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
There ella's how we.
Speaker 14 (01:22:04):
Doing i'm all, RIGHT i don't really have a sports
related item, today But i've got a Question i've been
meaning to ask for a very long.
Speaker 12 (01:22:11):
Time ask what is the origin Of Carl maline at
The loan shooting.
Speaker 3 (01:22:17):
Two it's SOMETHING i heard On Dan patrick many many
years ago that in THE Nba finals when The bulls
were playing The, jazz the public address announcer at the
game accidentally Said Carl maline at The Loan shooting, two
(01:22:38):
And dan told that. Story this was probably ten years.
Ago dan told the story of being there and hearing.
That and now every TIME i Hear Carl malone's, name
ALL i think about Is Carl maline at The Loan shooting.
Too and so the nickname For Carl malone is The,
mailman and we have a talkbacker called The, mailman so
(01:23:01):
that triggers my brain to Say Carl maliine at The
Loan shooting. Too this has been something that every Time
i've heard the Word mailman Or carl OR I loan
over the last ten, Years i've thought to, Myself Carl
malin at The Loan shooting.
Speaker 31 (01:23:17):
Two Conny, Austin george from The valley really encourage with The.
RATS i think that we're going to. See what we're
gonna see is a lot of five hundred. Baseball BUT
i think they're way more likely to go on a
long winning streak than a long losing, string and that'll
be the. Difference so a couple, couple you, know seven
eight game winning streaks put us fourteen, games about five hundred,
Playoffs World. SERIES i see it all coming can't.
Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
Wait, okay there you.
Speaker 2 (01:23:39):
Go saw last Night george from The VALLEY i think
was In vegas For monday night.

it said nineteen and sixty nine days Since ohi've stayed
as Beat. Michigan it was at The As monday night
rolling a sign up And i'm, like that has to Be.
George is That? Rick?
Speaker 3 (01:23:56):

press box? Again probably unprofessional last? Night one hundred percent
with some of those.

no mountain lions In, ohio Including, cincinnati says the last
confirmed wild cougar In ohio was about one hundred years,
ago but there have been many unconfirmed sightings over the.
Years no, photos no, scat no, tracks no convincing evidence
(01:29:49):
to support this presence of. Cougars what's going? On and
if you look, up is T higgins at the zoo
or this dude really see a cougar In?
Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
Cincinnati because the thing is if you google just an
image of a, cougar you're not gonna mistake a cougar
with a like a house. Cat, no you're not gonna
mistake a cougar with like a. Dog, right you see a,
cougar you know you just saw a. Cougar that's. Right
this is our shadow and.
Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
Cougars cougars are towards the top of the list of
ANIMALS i would, absolutely unequivocally want nothing to do, with
would not want to run into. One they are, fast
they are, strong and they are. MEAN i mean they're humongous, Too.
Speaker 15 (01:30:37):
Like what you.
Speaker 3 (01:30:38):
KNOW i always tell People i'm never gonna move out
Of Ohio god, willing because why WOULD i want to
move anywhere. Else we don't have, wild crazy. Animals we
don't have poisonous, snakes we don't have, earthquakes we don't have.
Hurricanes we most of the time don't have. Tornadoes we
(01:30:59):
don't have of unbearably bad, heat we don't have unbearably bad.
Winters this is the perfect place to. Live hours would
change that now we got cougars walking around, LIKE i
don't ever want to go To. Australia have you seen
the stuff on off like the, animals AND i.
Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
Don't i'm.
Speaker 3 (01:31:20):

fly twenty two hours to go To. Australia, SURE i
like it here BECAUSE i did you see the ring
doorbell footage of a place In florida over the weekend
where there are two alligators trying to get into this woman's.
Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
House, yeah they would just celebrate a national.
Speaker 3 (01:31:40):

looking Into thursday's? Draft are the players safe walking across
to the practice? Bubble that's What i'm. Saying is safety
an issue with cougars on the?
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
Loose safety is normally not an issue at all here
in this great, city, Correct but now all of a,
sudden cougars changes. Everything All i'm saying IS i don't like.
It i'm Sorry i've ruined the. Show that's good that people.

Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
Zoo and If tea saw, it there had to be
someone around to you that has seen. It you would

put The eagles over the top last year when they
got when they got the, say the, trenches the trenches.
Speaker 9 (01:38:38):

Boy, yeah, okay, exactly, okay all, right the president of
The Secret. Service now you're changing my.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):

Speaker 9 (01:39:01):
Else, Hey, hey you know who the angel death?
Speaker 13 (01:39:04):

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
Cougars, no The Angel death is A.
Speaker 7 (01:39:09):
Jd.
Speaker 9 (01:39:10):
Vance he's the last person to the.
Speaker 3 (01:39:12):
Pope he tried to kill The National championship trophy to, man.
Speaker 9 (01:39:22):
The last person to shake The.
Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
Pope i'm out on, this thank you. Man that's.
Speaker 3 (01:39:30):
Good we went right up to the line right.
Speaker 14 (01:39:32):
THERE i.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
Relaxed we got to the. LINE i actually to follow
it From chris. Too alligators have been sighted In cincinnati.
BEFORE i do have one thing that's never going to
leave my house because now this brought this, now now
things have been brought, back and my my brain is
firing back to Last thursday WHEN i went to cut
the grass around my house AND i saw a. Snake,
(01:39:54):
YEAH i can only guess that it's, deadly that it's,
lethal THAT i need to to get my family and
move out of the house. Immediately, well it doesn't, matter,
listen it doesn't matter how OLD i. Am, honestly IF
i see a snake or a big enough, SPIDER i
am assuming it's deadly and THAT i need to relocate somewhere.
Speaker 3 (01:40:15):
ELSE i hate, SNAKES i, MEAN i said for a,
WHILE i mean this thing was like the only Thing
i'm afraid of is spiders and. Snakes and Now chris is.
Right we do have some like so spiders here that
will kill, You but like those aren't those aren't that?
Prevalent and most of the snakes he are. Harmless LITTLE
i know they're.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
Harmless but if you're cutting the grass and you come
about a, snake what do you?
Speaker 16 (01:40:41):
What you have the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:42):
Advantage you've got the death machine to a. SNAKE i,
See BUT i couldn't do. It why?
Speaker 3 (01:40:47):
NOT i couldn't just run them. Over if you think
that snake could kill, you.
Speaker 7 (01:40:53):
You have the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
Weapon oh it could kill, Me it could KILL i
MEAN i DON'T i don't, know BUT i thought about
this last. WEEK i, mean you could even see the
size of That i'm holding it up. There, WOW i mean.
Speaker 3 (01:41:05):
That's that's a pretty big. Size that's a big. SNAKE
i wouldn't like. That and if it's like it shoots
out while you're, Cutting, yeah sell. Everything, YEAH i don't
even know IF i have time to sell at this.
Point IF i at this, POINT i don't like. That
no snakes make me.
Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
Icky. Man now here's here's the worst part about. IT
i got my MY ac unit on the side of the,
house the vibrations from the. Lawnmower this thing slithered right
under THE ac. Unit now that could be.
Speaker 3 (01:41:34):
Right, YEAH i MEAN i saw a video just yesterday
these guys getting there, Anything they getting their golf cart
and there's a snake curled up inside the little theno
where you put your gatorades and.
Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
Stuff that's WHY i don't get Golle it's WHY i
don't drive a golf. Cart ANYTHING i don't have has doors.
Speaker 3 (01:41:53):
Like this cougar thing has me kind of freaked, out
especially if you're like a round a wooded, area WHICH
i kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
Am, YEAH i Mean i've seen some. Stuff my my
family In redding has like three acres if you equate
reading acreage to levinon something like. That that's essentially like
one hundred acres that my my family's. Got you see
some stuff in the back. Foxes foxes are, Cool, yeah
(01:42:18):
until they run out and you, know you got the
kids out there and you're looking at a little bunny
rabbit and it's, like, oh look at the, bunny and then,
boom fox comes out snags the. Bunny, now your kids
just witnessed something that you don't want them to. See
the circle life they would have they would have found
out a. Venture eventually you're gonna find. Out but just
like they have to find out what dad did to
that snake with the. LAWNMOWER i let it. Go that
is a pretty good sized. Snake, yeah once it got
(01:42:40):
underneath THE ac. Unit and Like I'm i'm mentally shaken
enough that As i'm, cutting Like i'm looking over my, shoulder,
yeah Because i'm, like this thing's gonna wait TILL i
turn my back and he's gonna go after my. ACHILLES
i am BECAUSE i had shorts on AFTER i had,
shorts and so like As i'm hutting around THE ac,
(01:43:02):
unit now in my Mind i'm thinking to, myself like
check that, way and as soon like you ever have
that feeling when like you're a, kid or even, now
you're turning the lights off down in the basement and
you kind of got to run up the stairs because
the darkness behind them following. YOU i was looking over
my shoulder like this snake was gonna grow legs and attack. Me,
(01:43:22):
yeah AND i caught myself And i'm, like, man got
no one else's video in.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
There here's the thing, Though, like think about, it going
back to T higgins claiming that he saw a cougar,
today you have like a unbelievably better chance to survive
a poisonous snake then you do a. Cougar, Yeah, like
let's say you run into it like a rattle snake
(01:43:50):
or a diamondback and they start, Going, yeah at LEAST
i know to get, out you know to get. Out
but even, THEN i, mean your odds are, Low but
that's nothing compared to you come face to face with a.
Cougar you're. Dead unless you have a, gun you're.
Speaker 2 (01:44:05):
Dead.
Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
Done have you ever seen those videos too of that
dude just like hiking and a cougar starts stalking him
and he just starts letting rounds go with it like
a nine MILLIMETER.
Speaker 2 (01:44:15):
I just now, Now I'm i'm starting TO i googled
deadly animals In, cincinnati, timber. Rattlesnake we don't have. Rattlesnake,
well not common In. Cincinnati not, common not? Common, Okay cool,
copperheads brown recluse, SPIDERS i know those are, real potentially dangerous. Animals,
(01:44:35):
coyotes black. Bears, yeah. TEARING i just saw tearing the.
Hall it turns, like, yeah, WELL i just saw coyote
the other. Day i'm, like, listen pal a coyote and
a cougar not even the. Same it's not even. Close it's. Different, ticks, mosquitoes.
Stuff i'm just not going to go play in the.
Speaker 7 (01:44:53):
Woods.
Speaker 3 (01:44:53):
First do you believe In? Bigfoot? Yes species Of? Bigfoot?
Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Yes, yeah me.
Speaker 3 (01:45:00):
TOO i, MEAN i think it's not even an absolute.
CERTAINTY i don't even think it's up for.
Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
Debate do you think The bengals are relying too much
on guys already on the.
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
ROSTER i think they need to look for people with cougar, size, speed, strength,
agility and.
Speaker 2 (01:45:14):
Aggressiveness do you worry about The Duke tobin comment about
drafting or not drafting players to contribute right.
Speaker 3 (01:45:19):
Away uh, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:45:22):
Why make that? Comment? Why here's WHAT i wrote. Down
SO i was the most influential draft that many people
have seen in. Years and you're going to say that
we're not really counting on these. Guys SO i wrote
down yesterday Three Duke tobin, quotes you ready for?
Speaker 13 (01:45:36):
This?
Speaker 3 (01:45:37):
Yes first, one we are pleased with where we sit right.
Now second, one we're rebuilding on defense Under al's. Vision third,
ONE i don't think our team absorbs right now as
we sit a bunch of rookie starters underneath. IT i wrote,
translation we aren't afraid to draft the project that we
(01:45:57):
think can develop into a good. Player and they have
faith In Miles murphy And joseph o'side to.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
Produce. Yes so the QUESTION i have for, you do
you think that they are relying on that too? Much?
Yes that is now my number one concern going Into. Thursday,
yeah is that reading in between the, lines they legitimately
have a belief in what they have in that building
is good, enough what would really? Like and if that's the,
case that changes my whole thought on best. Available and
(01:46:24):
then let's SAY i if one of those tight ends
is there at, fourteen maybe they do take him if
they truly believe, that or at, seventeen if they truly
believe what they.
Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
Have what would really piss you? Off From?
Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
Thursday, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
If they got let's say they Get Colston loveland Or Tyler,
warren would that piss you?
Speaker 13 (01:46:46):
Off?
Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
AGAIN i view it as a quarterback. Standpoint it's a good,
thing and it's another weapon for. OFFENSE i worry that
it would solidify the fact that they think they are
good enough with what they have and a couple of
new coaches and some tweaks to the scheme that they
can compete to win a.
Speaker 3 (01:47:03):
Title do you think would a safety make you?
Speaker 7 (01:47:07):
Mad?
Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
NO i don't think, so BECAUSE i think we saw
in an instant how important safety was when Von bell
walked And Jesse bates, walked.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
And while played last year and played, LEFT.
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
I think they're okay. THERE i could see making that
a priority because of how good they were and that
back end was With Jesse bates and Voon.
Speaker 3 (01:47:28):
Bell would an offensive lineman make you?
Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Mad offensive lineman would still be the most HAPPY i
would be at seventeen.
Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
Okay and an edgeresher in an interior defensive line that
wouldn't make you, Mad, NO i see it in a
lineback wouldn't make you.
Speaker 2 (01:47:42):
Mad, no because it's a position of desperate.
Speaker 3 (01:47:44):
Need so there's only a move on From there's only
two positions outside of kicker and punter that would make
you mad and running back. Receiver SO i try to
look at it through that LINN. dB, YEAH i MEAN
i don't think seventeen is the spot for. It, yeah
if they Draft Will, johnson another cornerback out Of, Michigan
i'm done with.
Speaker 7 (01:48:04):
That.
Speaker 3 (01:48:04):
Yeah but let's say outside three positions that they are
not going to draft, for if you include, quarterback you
can make the case for every other, one, Right, Yes
so it's LIKE i can't get that mad at anything they.
Speaker 2 (01:48:22):
Do, yeah that's kind of just think those, Comments like
if they draft a defensive end at seventeen and we
hear From duke And zach and they say, this you,
know it's a great spot for this player to come
in and maybe play sparingly on third downs as a,
specialist and then work him into it in the next
(01:48:42):
couple of, years then, yes BECAUSE i want a guy
at seventeen who's going to contribute. Immediately and If i'm
drafting at seventeen to just pencil him in as a
second team or then, YEAH i would be. Upset.
Speaker 3 (01:48:52):
Yeah here's the other THING i keep thinking back. On
why did Lu An arumo get? Fired, yeah because there
was a disconnect somewhere between the type of player he
wants and needs and can use and the type of
players that the organization in the front office can get and.
Want and there's always been an emphasis all the way
(01:49:13):
back to When Paul brown was here between the coaching
staff and the front office being on the same. Page
cohesiveness was really. Important and somewhere along the way over
the last couple of Years louis had a roumo in
the front office lost that. Cohesiveness and so now Openly
Duke tobin says yesterday we are rebuilding the defense Under
al's vision With Al. Golden all, right, Great so there
(01:49:37):
needs to be an understanding and part of the reason
Why narumo got canned was because they weren't getting enough
out of the young, players which tells me a point
of emphasis will be on development not only For osai And,
murphy but for whoever comes. In Chris jenkins, absolutely McKinley, jackson, Absolutely,
(01:49:58):
yes those guys part of the development as, well but
also a young defensive. Player you will need to get
something out of him Because Anna rumo was unable to do. That,
yeah that seems to me like a point of, emphasis
which makes me, Think, okay maybe he's. Right they're not
gonna have six new, starters but will they have?
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
One?
Speaker 3 (01:50:18):
Yeah will they have two guys that can? Contribute. Hope
so you would think you're gonna find out On thursday
when we come. Back we'll have a minut or, two
we'll grab a phone, call and then we'll go To
moulager for quick. Hits since he three sixty thanks To
Penn station ON espn fifteen Thirty Cincinnati Sports, station it's horrif.
Speaker 2 (01:50:38):
Welcome, back since he three to sixty thanks To Penn
STATION espn fifteen Thirty Cincinnati Sports, Station Moulager and just
a few, minutes we'll update our poll question as. Well
that means we got a minute or so, Here uh

Speaker 15 (01:50:57):
From It's mike cut. Up, mike what a, fella good
hill as, Usual Thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
Mike have you ever seen a cougar out in the.
Speaker 15 (01:51:04):
Wild, no But i've seen green these green lime colored
snakes And vietnam that weren't that, big and the trees
and at that son of a, billy go bitch you
you had about six. SECONDS i don't care if the
hot if you're already in the.
Speaker 3 (01:51:20):
Hospital, yeah they call them two step. Snakes you get,
bit you take two. Steps well that's the.
Speaker 15 (01:51:27):
Snake there's one in the ocean and. Stuff forget the
name of the. Snake that's the most.
Speaker 4 (01:51:31):
Deadly a ball in the whole.
Speaker 9 (01:51:32):
World so you have to google that.
Speaker 15 (01:51:33):
Sucker and they float on the top of the water
and so you can see him bide. Again but it's
not as scary AS ak forty. Seven but it's blowing
past your.
Speaker 3 (01:51:44):
Ears h that's a little bit, different.
Speaker 15 (01:51:49):
A little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
Different.
Speaker 15 (01:51:50):
Yeah, uh, okay real, QUICK i want to hit one
thing on the. Draft but yesterday mo was asking was
saying that he thought The bengals last year were was
one of the most, disappointed if not the most disappointing
sports thing that's happened in The city's a long. TIME
i Say Kenyon martin.
Speaker 2 (01:52:07):
Was, yeah and the only difference Is kenyon's was an,
injury whereas The, bengals they were pretty healthy for the
most part last, year but they just didn't live up
to the. EXPECTATION i think The bearcouts would have Have
kenyan not gotten.
Speaker 15 (01:52:21):
Hurt the one that killed me though it was a
little four year. Time The Cincinnati royals Had Michael. Jordan
Before Michael, Jordan Oscar robertson was considered the best basketball
player in the, world hands.
Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
Down nobody questioned, it and.
Speaker 15 (01:52:35):
The royals could not get past The Boston celtics in
ten years And oscar had to go all the way
To milwaukee to play With. Kareem that was disappointed and
that's why The royals left and went To Kansas. City
it was, terrible but we still have a team here the.
Draft this guy From Boston. COLLEGE i heard the lead
scout FOR pff yesterday On somebody's show and he said
(01:52:59):
That devin't this this Echo, ezerako this THIS uh, defender
very versatile defender From Boston. College he said he's only six,
two but he's got really long. Arms he's only two,
fifty but he said he, is hands, down in his,
opinion the best most versatile defender if you want to
(01:53:21):
put him in the front seven anywhere except maybe No
tetle than anybody in the. Draft the guy From Boston. College,
YEAH i was rating.
Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
About, Yeah, AUSTIN i know you liked him as. Well
i've seen a lot about. Him he's more of a
it looks like to me towards the bottom of the
first round he might be in my, opinion if they
were to trade, BACK i think that's the guy they.
Speaker 15 (01:53:39):
Get instead Of campbell Because campbell now has had to
have to have that labor. Sit what is? That what's laboram?
Turn he's at your?
Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
Shoulder, yeah? Shoulder is that?
Speaker 9 (01:53:50):
Serious it?
Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
Is but they're they're projecting him to be back by training,
camp SO i don't think it holds him back all that.
Speaker 15 (01:53:55):
Much In, Scattaboo i'm with you On. SCATTABOO i just
don't him play a. Lot the guy is he's only
five to, nine but he's two. Twenty he's a little
bowling ball and he can.
Speaker 4 (01:54:04):
Catch the ball out of the.
Speaker 15 (01:54:05):
Backfield, yeah very very. Reciful they Say pittsburgh's got in
mind after or, something but who. Knows, ANYWAY i.
Speaker 4 (01:54:12):
Know you've got to.
Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
Go thanks, Guy thank, You, mike appreciate.
Speaker 15 (01:54:14):
It oh real. Quick that Kit Clippers nuggets game very,
fantastic better game than the whole, playoff agreed, period that's.
Speaker 2 (01:54:21):
It that should have been the, finals, Agreed. Mike thank.
Speaker 15 (01:54:24):
You thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
Guys, yeah that was fantastic and uh we'll have plenty
more in the next two days as it pertains TO
uh our mock drafting for The bengals at seventeen mo is.
NEXT i saw a tweet earlier That moe was working
on his mock. Draft we'll get the latest on that
when we. Return since he three to sixty thanks To
Penn station ON espn fifteen, THIRTY.
Speaker 1 (01:54:45):
Espn fifteen, Thirty cincinnati's sports, station it's time For since
he three sixty quick hits ON espn.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
Fifteen mo's in the, house welcome. Back since he three
sixty thanks To Penn Station draft, week it just. Flies it.
Does feels like we can't even get enough coverage of
what we need to. Do and that's WHY i ask, you,
now what are you going to do for the next?
ROUN i, know first of, ALL i can't wait For.
Thursday it's my favorite. Show love, it it's my favorite.
Show you AND i get a chance to be on
the air. Together Then Austin, Elmore austin will have the
(01:55:14):
pick along With Chick. Ludwig, yeah unless The bengals move.
Up unless The bengals move, up you got to go
get a guy at like ten six.
Speaker 33 (01:55:21):
Hours you Got, lancey Got, rocky you got me and
you in the, middle and then you've Got austin on
and with me in the background cursing The Nick pistons.
Speaker 2 (01:55:29):
Game, yep With Chick.
Speaker 3 (01:55:31):
Ludwig but, yeah you know this, week you, know we
start the draft.
Speaker 33 (01:55:36):
Process and it's you, know mock drafts and draft experts
and so much, information and then we get to this
week and it's sort of, like all, right does anybody
give us anything new or? Different, yeah we'll find out
today Because Paul Danner junior is going to be here
for his weekly visit in the three o'clock.
Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
Hour we kind of had this conversation before we came on,
air the idea With Duke tobin speaking yesterday about you
know that this team is not gonna absorb any rookie
starter whoever they draft at seventeen has to play this.
Year they can't have a press conference afterwards and, say you,
know he maybe a third down. Specialist he's gonna Spell
(01:56:11):
Trey hendrickson at. Times whoever they draft needs to. Start,
yeah that, conversation that quote threw me off a little.
Bit there's no room for a red.
Speaker 33 (01:56:22):
Shirt, Yeah day one and, two those Those you, know
whether the players on the field for the first play
of the game is. Irrelevant but we're talking about dudes
who are going to be expected to make an.
Speaker 3 (01:56:31):
Impact we're. Not this Isn't this Isn't Dax hill a
couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:56:37):
Ago your roster is so loaded you're worried about the.
Speaker 33 (01:56:39):
Future your, defense with it largely intact from last, year needs.
Help this draft needs to yield players who help on
that side of the. Ball and the idea is to
draft a guard who can play right.
Speaker 25 (01:56:54):
Now.
Speaker 33 (01:56:55):
Now he might enter a training camp competition and perhaps
somebody else beats him, out but the idea when you
draft him is he plays guard and plays well this.
YEAR i thought that Was i'm going to give him
the benefit of it out and, Go, okay he's beefing,
up he's building up his. Team, yeah he's backing his
guys and he's kind of defending his own foot behind closed.
Doors hopefully that's not a, conversation like we really already
(01:57:16):
have the guys. Place the seventeenth overall pick has to
be a major contributor to this year's. Team this team
is the second round. Pick, yeah this team's in a
Super bowl window. NOW i think we the three of,
us have talked about. This they're one of the most
interesting teams in the league because the list of team
needs looks like they went four and thirteen last. Year,
YEAH i, mean if you look at all their team,
needs it's like that team won more than they. Lost
(01:57:38):
but the idea this year is to do even better
and win The Super. Bowl how does that happen if
this draft class doesn't help correct like? That there's my,
question how are you going to win the title this?
Year if this year's class is is not a big
Factor in twenty twenty Five austin from a red, standpoint
what were our final results from our.
Speaker 3 (01:58:00):
Poll our revivefitnessystems dot com poll question brought to you
By pjstreet and orvivefitnessisms dot. Com the leading factor and
why The reds lost last? Night was what a they
scored twenty four runs On. SUNDAY, Yep beeve's great pitching By,
miami c The reds player stink or d it was
an off. Night fifty eight percent say great pitching By,
(01:58:24):
miami nineteen percent say off, night twelve percent say it
was because they scored twenty four runs On, sunday and
ten percent say The reds player.
Speaker 33 (01:58:33):
Stink it's a combination Of Max, Meyer Max myners really.
Good Max myer's number three overall pick in twenty twenty
for a. Reason he was terrific last. Night sometimes nobody
wants to do. This sometimes you just have to, say
you know, what the other guy was really. Good, yeah
we want the other fans of the other team to
do that One Hunter green's really, good When nickolodola's really,
good When Ellidela cruz has a big, game and stuff like.
That that was it to.
Speaker 2 (01:58:54):
Me but it's.
Speaker 33 (01:58:57):
Over the last ten games they had scored seventy five.
Runs that obviously wasn't going to continue. NonStop the question
is does it tonight because you don't want to have
to Face sandy Al, contrary who at some point is
going to turn it. Around needing to get out Of
miami with one win And Nick martinez needs a good start.
Tonight but the main reason Was Max. Meyer, now Watching
(01:59:18):
alexis ds last, Night.
Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
I'm gonna, say what do you think other fan bases
think When alexis d has.
Speaker 3 (01:59:22):
Pitches we have a, chance, steal, run, go take?
Speaker 33 (01:59:27):
Off what do you even do with him at this?
Point that's the question because he has? Options, yeah HE'S
i used to say this About Billy. Hamilton Remember Billy
hamilton was a lead off hitter and then suddenly he
was batting, ninth AND i would, say when you're batting,
ninth you're closer to being sent down than you are
getting the leadoff spot. Back because there were a lot
of people clinging to the idea That Billy hamilton could,
(01:59:47):
hit despite mounds of evidence that he.
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Could AND i Like Billy.
Speaker 2 (01:59:50):
Hamilton there were times When Billy hamilton hit below the.
Speaker 33 (01:59:53):
Pitcher, yeah he would bat, ninth AND i would, say,
like when you are batting, ninth you're closer to being
sent out than you are getting the leadoff spot. Back
AND i sort of feel, like if You're Alexis, diaz
you were the. Closer you're now the first guy out
of the pen when it's three to. Nothing granted the
game was not, lost but you're closer to being sent
To louisville than you are being the team's, closer especially
(02:00:15):
when you pitch the way he did last, night and.
Speaker 3 (02:00:18):
Especially when there's guys In louisville that are showing that
they can come out of the bullpen and multiple different
spots and pitch really. Well SO i think one of
the questions is how long is the leash For alexis.
Speaker 2 (02:00:28):
Ds. YEAH i think another interesting question tonight Is Nick
martinez era at, six getting paid a lot of. Money
jamiers getting paid a lot of. Money he hasn't been
in the lineup to. Day the money they've spent and
how they choose when to spend it has. Backfired and
Mean mustakas was a, Disaster Shogo akayama was. Awful they've
had some bad contracts in the.
Speaker 33 (02:00:48):
Past so our buddy The, zebra, oh he has to
work here pose the QUESTION i think two weeks ago
if you look at And i'm paraphrasing him, Here but
like The red's history with position, players jam Or candelario
is The reds history with position? Players how many have
they ever signed over the last thirty years to long
term deals and have gotten good production from. Them Mike Mustakis,
(02:01:13):
No Nick castianos yes for a year and then he.
Left the list is not very, long, sure and you
know he AND i were going back on social, media so,
well how do you feel About Ryan ludwick who gave
him one good year in twenty twelve on a one year,
contract then came back for two Or Rich arelia you
have to go back to like two thousand and, five
two thousand and. Six The candelario thing hasn't worked. Out
(02:01:33):
the question is you, know.
Speaker 2 (02:01:35):
What do you? Do what do you do with?
Speaker 3 (02:01:36):
Him and Then Francisco cordero with, yeah but he's the
pitcher now the position, player oh?
Speaker 33 (02:01:41):
Yeah and then With Nick martinez like how long does
he hold a spot in the starting rotation if he
continues to pitch the way he?
Speaker 2 (02:01:50):
Has, YEAH i think it's all. Fair, Lastly, ellie he's
struggling the. Strikeouts he's number two in baseball again with the.
STRIKEOUTS i think he's putting a lot of pressure on.
HIMSELF i think there's A i think there's something you
inherit when you bat three, hole no matter what age
of and process of baseball where you view yourself AS
i got to be a power. GUY i got to
(02:02:11):
get runners. IN i think hitting one or two you
take a little bit of the pressure off and you
just go back to. HITTING i know he's staying in
the three, hole but it just lends itself another one
of those. THINGS i think there's too much. PRESSURE i
think there's a lot of added. Pressure he's already putting
pressure on. Himself sure he's viewed as the guy on the.
Team continuing to run him out there in the three,
hole especially if McClain's not going to do much in
(02:02:32):
front of him at this, POINT i just don't think
it helps him from a slum standpoint or a strikeout.
Speaker 3 (02:02:37):
Standpoint, no but, dude give us good at, bats.
Speaker 2 (02:02:44):
Right that's the. Thing either go be aggressive or you,
know when you get down an, account he just looks
like he's not gonna have a.
Speaker 33 (02:02:50):
Chance i'm not opposed to trying him in the leadoff.
Spot just what's the harm right? Now when WHEN. Tj
friedel is getting on, base you, go you, KNOW i
want a guy who gets on base the frequency THE.
Tj friedle. Can but like we keep wanting to talk
About ellie de La cruz as he as if he
is one of the absolute best players in this, sport
AND i hope we. DO i Don't we're close to, that.
(02:03:12):
Correct is he the best hitter on the. TEAM i
think he's the hitter who can do the. Most does
that make? Sense? YEAH i can hit the ball out
of the ballpark and hit the ball on the, gap
can hit the ball down the, line can make use
with his. Legs BUT i don't know if he's the
best hitter on the.
Speaker 2 (02:03:28):
Team bottom of the ninth which the ninth one guy
you have coming up in this? Lineup you have to
get him on who you.
Speaker 33 (02:03:33):
WANT i still Think matt McLain's a really good. Hitter
the numbers haven't been, right but like we keep Wanting
ellie to be like THIS mvp caliber.
Speaker 3 (02:03:41):
Guy do people realize how good show Heo tani.
Speaker 2 (02:03:44):
IS i don't think. So he ate there you're AN mvp.
