a Cincinnati Bengal, He is landed in Cincinnati. He will
suit up up for the Cincinnati Bengals this upcoming season.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
How do you feel about it? Obviously?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Much of today will be centered around Shamar Stewart, the pros,
the cons, the upside, the question marks everything at every
angle that we can possibly find on Shamar Stewart. We
will make it today, obviously, with your phone calls five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. Charlie Goldsmith will join us at one o'clock.
(01:30):
Tom Gallairder will join us at two o'clock to talk
about FC Cincinnati looking for their fifth consecutive win in
a row tomorrow at TQL Stadium. We've got some Shamar
Stewart audio from last night that will bring you as well.
Let's get out of let's let's get ahead of this.
Let's get out of the way early in the show,
everything else that happened in the sports world last night.
(01:51):
Obviously Round one of the NFL Draft. We're going to
dive deep into FC Cincinnati takes on Sporting Kansas City
tomorrow two thirty, Reds and Rockies. Tonight Kyle Free versus
Andrew Abbott. Nick's thunder Clippers all win.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Last night.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Thunder came back from a twenty nine point deficit, second
biggest deficit in the history of the NBA Playoffs. They
beat the Grizzlies tonight Boston, Orlando, Indie, Milwaukee, La, Minnesota.
You are caught up to speed on everything else going on,
which means from here to the end of the show,
we can now talk about the NFL Draft. Last night,
(02:24):
as the Bengals were getting ready to select at seventeen,
it felt like the board had fallen perfectly, multiple options available.
Joha Campbell was out there, Malachi Starks was out there.
There were multiple defensive ends still out there. Donovan as
(02:46):
a Roku was there, who we talked a lot about.
Mike Green was there, who we talked a lot about.
James Pierce Junior was there. Interior defensive lineman Derek Harmon
was still there. Number seventeen. If you've lived under a
rock the last few hours, the Bengals took Shamar Stewart.
(03:08):
If you are a fan of the statistic that is
the relative athletic score, then you are a fan of
Samar Stewart because he graded through the roof as it
relates to a relative athletics score. In fact, Paul Danner
Junior put this up. If you look at players since
twenty fifteen whose relative athletics score is over nine point
(03:30):
eight and weigh more than two hundred and sixty pounds,
the list is as follows. Trayvon Walker Miles, Garrett Rashan,
Gary boy A, Mafi, Daniel Hunter, Montes, Sweat, Aiden Hutchinson,
Preston Smith, Ya Yadabi, Jalen Phillips, and the outliers Bengals
(03:50):
fans will know as Jordan Willis. But that is not
a terrible list of players who received relative athletic scores
over nine point eight and wade more than two hundred
and sixty pounds. The upside of Shamar Stewart is there.
The athleticism of Shamar Stewart is there. The Senior Bowl
film that I watched this morning of Shamar Stewart is there.
(04:16):
There's talent, there's athleticism, there's power. There's also the other
side of it. And the other side of it is
a player that feels more like a project than an
immediate impact player, a player who was hampered by mistackles,
(04:42):
poor defense against the run. And in thirty seven games
at Texas A and M over the course of three seasons,
he compiled four and a half total sacks, one and
a half each of the three seasons. And I know
the SEC is a powerhouse, but in those three years,
Texas A and M played McNee State Bowling, Green, New
Mexico State, New Mexico, Louisiana, Monroe, Alcorn State, Sam Houston,
(05:07):
app State, and UMass. Had he just made one sack
in each of those games, that would double the production
that he had over three years at Texas, A and M.
The production is the issue. I thought the Cincinnati Bengals
(05:29):
had to draft production. How do you expect a player
to produce in the NFL when he didn't produce in college.
That is the question that I am consistently hung up
on because I do see the upside in Shamar Stewart,
(05:52):
But if he didn't produce in college, how is he
going to produce in the NFL? How are you going
to play him in different posicians when he's not great.
If he had four and a half sacks but he's
dominated against the run, okay, now maybe we can move
him around a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
If he had four and a half sacks.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
But he just dominates dominates single pass protection, okay, I
can get behind that. But tackling has been a problem,
run defense has been a problem, and getting home against
the quarterback has been a problem. He has a ton
of pressures, but the production isn't there. What I also
(06:34):
thought was interesting and Austin. We have talked a ton
this week, ever since Duke Tobin spoke and he used
the phrase in something along the lines of, you know,
we want to rework this defense in the eyes of
Al Golden. Chamar Stewart didn't even remember meeting with the
Bengals at the Combine, and a lot goes on at
the Combine. But Shamar Stewart was not one of the
(06:57):
top thirty visits for the Cincinnati Bengals, and I question
if we're rebuilding this in the eyes of Al Golden,
it would have been good to get him into Cincinnati
and sit him down and pick his brain for one
of those top thirty visits that are so wildly important.
So we will. We'll look at the rest of the draft.
(07:17):
We'll look at the players who are available. Look what
the AFC North did, We'll go through grades. We'll hear
from Shamar Stewart. But I can't help coming away from
number seventeen last night in a draft that felt like
we need impact players, immediately came away a little deflated.
It felt like a pick you could move down and take,
(07:40):
felt like a guy you could have got a little
bit later. Look at how the rest of the first
first round played out, and I hope, I hope that
me and so many others that I've seen on social
media are wrong that he comes in and he dominates
this year. But the production, the film doesn't show that yet.
Does it show it in a year or two maybe,
(08:02):
and if it does, awesome, if another couple of years
go by, fantastic. They're taking a big swing and they're
taking a huge risk. Are the Cincinnati Bengals They felt
like they could do that. I think a lot of
(08:22):
the fan base did it think that they could take
a pick with a big risk. They needed more of
a sure thing. John Campbell was a sure thing as
a linebacker. Malachi Starks was a sure thing as a safety.
You could talk about the view of others that James
Pierce Junior showed enough. They had to climb back in
(08:45):
that Atlanta to the front first round to get him
to pair with another defensive end. We talked a ton
of about Donovan Azeraku. The list can go on and on,
but I felt a little bit underwhelmed when that pick
was called last night. Austin, what were your feelings overall
of Shamar Stewart at number seventeen to the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Excuse me, Wow, there's a start. I was frustrated.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
I think a lot of people were, just because it
felt like that there are players that can have a
quicker impact and might be able to immediately help them.
The goal for this draft is to help the twenty
twenty five Bengals get back to the playoffs and have
a run at the super Bowl because of how loaded
(09:32):
they are on offense, and the big issue is their
inability on defense. Historically, bad defense paired with a historically
good offense led to them missing the playoffs. I think
when you look at some of the players that went
after Shamar Stewart at seventeen, you could make a case
for Derek Harmon, who unfortunately lands in Pittsburgh, as being
(09:54):
a guy that you could get behind despite the medicals.
Donovan Jackson, who goes at twenty four to Minnesota, is
a plug and play guard that would start on opening day.
Malachi Starks is a dude that could be moved all
around in Al Golden's defense and be the guy to
replace Geno Stone if you're to leave next year in
(10:15):
free agency. Ty Leek Williams is a game wrecker, a
run stopper, a pass rusher, everything you want out of
a defensive tackle. He goes at twenty eight to the
Detroit Lions, and you mentioned Jahad Campbell going to the
Philadelphia Eagles at number thirty one in what felt like,
you know, a guy that could come in take the
(10:37):
place of Jermaine Pratt, be an every down linebacker, and
be a nasty combination with Logan Wilson. You look at
all that and you're like, Wow, those guys would have
a quicker and more meaningful impact right away on this
defense than Shamar Stewart, who it feels like, is you know,
going to immediately come into the rotation, but he's joining
(11:00):
a group of guys that are all still trying to
figure it out, and it seems like he's kind of
in the same boat as them. So you don't feel
like the Bengals got better last night, and I think
that's where the frustration comes from, especially when you consider
that there was simply put a lack of production at
the college level for Shamar Stewart. Now I've been trying
(11:21):
to figure out what does this say about the Bengals
and what does it say about Shamar Stewart, And I
think the overwhelming takeaway for me is that the Bengals
are putting so much on the plate and so much
on the idea that Al Golden is a great developer
(11:42):
of talent and a mastermind when it comes to using
the pieces that they already have. Al's been here for
four months now, He's had a chance to study everybody
on the defense, every player that they have, and figure
out his plan for them. Many of them he's already
familiar with from his time here previously, and so to me,
(12:04):
this selection is an indication that he feels like the
defensive line and his defense and the other players around
are good enough to take a guy that is banking
on upside. I think when you look at some of
(12:25):
the players around Shamar Stewart, Walter Nolan, John A Barn,
Derek Harmon, Jackson Starks Williams, all those guys, I feel
like Shamar Stewart has the highest ceiling of any of
those players. With that relative athletics score, with that size
and speed combination, with all those traits, the ceiling is very,
(12:47):
very high. The problem is right now he's in the
basement and those other guys are ready to roll. They're
on their way up to their ceilings right now, and
Shamar Stewart feels like he's behind.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
But the window is now correct windows, not two or
three years from now. The window I would is now.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Would also say, you know, we had conversations similar to
this a year ago about Amarius Mims where we thought, listen, dude.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
His production when he played was there.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Yeah, but he barely played so there was doubt about that,
and it was more about his athleticism than anything else.
It was a lot of unproven, much like Shamar Stewart.
So the way I look at it right now is
if you just trade Shamar Stewart for Sam Hubbard, Let's
say that was the transaction that happened, essentially right Hubbard retires,
(13:38):
Stewart gets drafted. Hubbard's kind of been a dead man
walk in the last couple of years. When it comes
to rushing the passer, are they better rushing the passer
right now? I would say, so, is it significantly better? No,
we don't know how much better it is. Al Golden
(13:59):
last night I also kind of gave a peek into
the size of Shamar Stewart, which was it's just what
six six six seven sixty seven six five seventy. That
allows him to rush the passer from the interior perhaps
on third downs. That makes me feel a little bit
better about third down pass rush more than Jenkins or
(14:20):
Jackson or Slayton or Hill. So marginally, yeah, they're slightly
better as a pass rush team. Right now, he's twenty
one years old. You have a new defensive coordinator, you
have a new defensive line coach that you are putting
a lot on them to be able to develop a player.
We just don't know what that looks like yet. You
we we have a track record of failure from Duke
(14:43):
Tobin and his crew, but we don't really know what
the NFL track record as a DC moving forward is
going to be for Al Golden, a little bit from
Jerry Montgomery. So that's it really to me, falls in
the hands of those guys to put it into perspective.
From a NFL combine stand point, his athleticism score amongst
all defensive end edge rushers was fifth of any combine
(15:07):
athlete at defensive end or edge rusher. His production score
was sixty four that bringd him twenty sixth among defensive
ends and edge rushers. How about this statistic, the last
edge rusher taken in the first round with a final
collegiate season pass rush win rate as Lois Shamar Stewart
was Miles Murphy of the Cincinnati Bengals, and I saw
(15:29):
this from Evan McPhillips on social media. The Bengals took
Carlos Dunlop and Gino Atkins in the twenty ten NFL Draft.
Since then, they've drafted twenty three defensive linemen. How many
would you confidently say developed into significantly better players than
when they were drafted. It's not that many now to
your point, maybe that's the Al Golden effect coming into
(15:53):
play for the Cincinnati Bengals. But nonetheless, there is going
to be a microscope that follows this pick because of
the need that the Bengals had and the players that
were taken after Shamar Stewart. I do think it's peculiar
that he didn't take a top thirty visit when we
(16:14):
were reworking this defense in Cincinnati around the vision of
Al Golden. That to me kind of tells me and
with the other players that went ahead of him, he
probably wasn't their first choice. You know, a guy that
didn't take a thirty visit for him clearly didn't have
a memorable combined visit with him. According to him, he
(16:38):
thought he was going to be a Dallas cowboy, you know,
with Walter Nolan going right ahead of him, Tyler Booker
going to the Dallas Cowboys. It makes you wonder how
far back was he on their board and were they
trying to trade back. I had two people last night
tell me that the Bengals were trying to trade back, Yeah,
and they couldn't find any suitors. I expect them try
(17:00):
to do that again today and that that's but that's
the other side of this. What they do tonight, you
kind of package it together. They go get a guard
or they land a big pick, then you feel okay.
After one and two, we feel good if you get
a plug and play guy right away. If you're taking
a guy tonight in the same conversation has had about development,
(17:20):
then you are in a world of hurt. If you're
the Cincinnati Bengals. We have so much to get to
between now and three o'clock. Of course we'll get the
phone calls at some point five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We got to look around the rest of
the NFL draft as well, but your thoughts leave him
and talked back for him. Today for hour number two,
we'll get to those and so much more since he
three sixty. You're listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
(17:42):
a service to Skyline Chile.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
And it's through twenty twenty five NFL Draft the Jacksonville
Jaguars to let try this Hunter. Yeah, they did receiver
defensive back through Colorado moving up.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
Who would faced for the next four years five years?
Travis Hunter or Mason Graham.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
I feel like Travis Hunter. Honestly, Yeah, I think so too,
because Mason Graham's gonna be paired up with Miles Garrett
and that worries me.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Jamar Chase and t Higgins could have cooked him when
he's on defense. You know, Dax Hill could shut him down.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Shamar Stewart will get to the quarterback before Travis Hunter
could have got opened.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
How about that? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Sense like sixty thanks to Skyline Chili. Get a couple
of calls here and then we'll get back to what
happened in the rest of the first round and more
with the Bengals.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
Can we quickly do our revived Fitnessystems dot Com pole question.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
You know what, that's a great idea.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
At Audielmore, at Tony Underscore Pike fifteen and at ESPN
fifteen thirty the Revive Fitnesssystems dot com pole question, how
do you feel about the Bengals selection of Shamar Stewart?
Options are love it, like it, indifferent, or hate it?
Forty one percent are indifferent, thirt hate it, Oh, twenty
(19:03):
five percent like it, and one point six percent love it.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Okay, okay, oh, there we have it. We'll keep those
pole results in mind for now. We got a couple
of minutes to get a couple of phone calls. Mark,
what's going on?
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Oh? So last New it was just a mod comedy show.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
Right.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
The Bengals really gonna drift in the first round tonight?
Speaker 8 (19:28):
Right?
Speaker 7 (19:30):
I mean because that that was that was a joke
last night. I mean, they from from the time I've
been a Bengals saying they only can get that first
round draft pick right if they pick it in the
top five where you pretty much know who the top
players are and it is right there for him. But
(19:50):
when they pick in at the bottom, from the middle
to the bottom of the first round, sure where they
got to do their due diligence on somebody. I mean,
they get it wrong every time. I mean, that was
a joke last night. I mean, what about that linebacker
you was talking about? What about that safety from Notre Dame,
what about that guard? I mean, these were players that
(20:12):
could come in and help out right away. Yeah, I
mean this guy, this guy don't look like he's gonna
be making no impact right away. So to me that
that was just a waste. I mean, you know, I
was real frustrated and disappointed with that. H that's a
(20:35):
dumb organization. Now I'm prevent them. People don't know what
they're doing. I mean, and they prove it year in
and year out. So that, like I said, Jamar Chase
and Joe Burrow, when they were picking those guys, well
it was just a no brainer. Those guys fit the
right and they laugh. But ever since then, who whoa, whoa?
(20:56):
What we got? So I'm gonna get off and listen
to the rest of the show because I'm just you know,
I'm about ready to quit.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Mark, thank you for the call. Austin.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
Do you think Shamar Stewart starts Week one? Ooh, I'm
gonna jump Miles Murphy and Joseph Osai.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
I'm gonna say no.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Because the thought of like the jahat Campbell conversation, many
people think, well, he's slid, maybe he's not gonna be
ready in time. Well, if that's the case, then it
makes drafting at seventeen if you're going to pass on
a Campbell who jumps off the film, or you're passing
on him because you don't know if he's gonna be
ready week one. But you also took a player that
(21:37):
I don't think is going to start week one. That
that doesn't add up to me. I think that's a
little bit of the frustration. Darryl, What say you?
Speaker 9 (21:45):
Well, I can't win right now, man, if you can
drag Jesus Christ is thirty one percent, the people.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Are not going to get You're right, You're right.
Speaker 10 (21:54):
Okay, So my big is all we've heard since the
middle of November was what.
Speaker 9 (22:01):
Draft somebody on the past rushing side. Isn't that what
they did?
Speaker 10 (22:06):
Now?
Speaker 11 (22:06):
That was the need.
Speaker 9 (22:07):
I don't know the best players available, beast athlete, but
probably the best athlete available.
Speaker 10 (22:12):
We should say that.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Right, Yes, best athlete from a performance score?
Speaker 6 (22:16):
Yes?
Speaker 10 (22:18):
Okay, So they addressed that need. Now I don't know that.
Speaker 9 (22:21):
If they would have took you hot Campbell and the
medal schools would have came back and not good ready
to play to start the season, everybody would have the
opposite opinion. Okay, why do they draft the guy with
a bum shoulder. No, you can't play football with a
bad shoulder.
Speaker 10 (22:37):
You can do it with a little batter the need.
Speaker 9 (22:39):
But if you got a bad shoulder trying to tackle,
it's going to be a difficult situation.
Speaker 10 (22:44):
Now the guard situation.
Speaker 9 (22:47):
Not come on now now, if they would have picked
down to the Jackson, everybody would have been upset.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
I guard, But you can.
Speaker 9 (22:56):
Pick guards in the third, fourth round.
Speaker 12 (22:58):
My man in the defensive tackle position, I understand.
Speaker 9 (23:01):
But they have two starters, right, at least on paper,
they have two starters and they have two backups.
Speaker 10 (23:07):
Do they need two more defensive type.
Speaker 9 (23:09):
Of if you I know you guys have follow this
draft thing.
Speaker 10 (23:13):
There's so many defensive tackles in the third and fourth
round that keeping draft.
Speaker 9 (23:18):
You're not drafting a starter. If you drafted deva, Derek
Hunter would have been great. Pittsburgh needed a nose tackle bad.
They needed in somebody on the inside.
Speaker 10 (23:26):
The Bengals have two starters in depend that combine fifteen
million eighteen how many much.
Speaker 12 (23:32):
One of they fan of two guys the even in healing,
that's like seventeen million dollars right, tat up in the
two starters. So I don't understand why people are upset
that they drafted a position that everybody was getting plenting about.
Speaker 10 (23:45):
And certainly did they draft Trey Henderson's replacement.
Speaker 9 (23:50):
Yes, okay, now going into tonight, you can get some
guards tonight.
Speaker 10 (23:55):
I think what was the stat.
Speaker 9 (23:56):
About starting offensive guards are often drafted below the fourth round.
Most of the guards in the NFL or guy who's
grabbing on the third day taking third day.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
So if you can get some guards.
Speaker 10 (24:08):
This raft was strong.
Speaker 13 (24:10):
And then say another things, tell.
Speaker 10 (24:11):
Us I want a guard. I don't want to tackle
to play guard.
Speaker 9 (24:16):
I want a guard that plays guard.
Speaker 10 (24:20):
You play football.
Speaker 9 (24:21):
Tackle is a finesse position, right because you're passing fifty
to sixty times. They don't go to task about forty
five times a game. So if they need somebody on
the inside, that's.
Speaker 10 (24:31):
A true guard. Yes, that's this position, just.
Speaker 9 (24:35):
A powerful guard. You can get some guards tonight or tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (24:40):
They need to address a safety position.
Speaker 9 (24:42):
Now I understand monks, but hey, they haven't cut Geno's
stone yet, so.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
There's a log jam there.
Speaker 10 (24:49):
They probably can take a safety or not.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
I'm not saying that they did a great job or
a bad job, but all I've.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
Heard just the four and eighth star is where are
they're going to get? It's in past rush him?
Speaker 14 (25:01):
When are they going.
Speaker 9 (25:02):
To get somebody defensive events, that's all we've earned since November,
and they do it and people are upset. None of
those other players there were going to start. I don't
know if Shemiri started, see what's gonna start, But I
got a team pretty much think he's probably going to start. Yes,
it goes out there and blows everybody away, he's going
to start. Or played ten defensive linemen to get through
(25:25):
a game in a season, right, they don't have four
defensive tackles, so clearly they need to get at least one,
maybe two defensive tackles, a three tack and maybe another
nose tackle in there.
Speaker 10 (25:37):
If that's possible. We're gonna got five pays.
Speaker 9 (25:40):
So they're a linebacker, need a linebacker. So I don't
know what they're going to do, but I just cannot
thousand people being upset over a position they've been crying
about since November, crying about lack.
Speaker 10 (25:54):
Of pass rushes.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
Murer hell, I don't know if it's gonna play. They
got Sam Hubbard.
Speaker 10 (25:59):
Out of there.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I'm just lou lm Arimo didn't want.
Speaker 9 (26:01):
To play young players. He was on his last years contracts.
His contract wasn't renewed. The defensive started playing better. Into
what fella?
Speaker 10 (26:09):
They started playing the backups.
Speaker 9 (26:12):
When they Madium played the backups, it's when they got better.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Yeah, Darrel, we got to get to a break. Thank
you for the phone call. I will say this, Austin.
I thought guard, safety, linebacker would have been drafted as
an immediate starter. I think interior d line and edge
rusher is drafting as a backup right now, and I
thought this team could use more of an immediate starter.
But yes, look at what the Eagles did. Help on
(26:38):
the defensive line is never going to be a bad thing.
If Shamar Stewart can pan out, we gotta get a break.
More phone calls, more draft conversation ahead. Since he three
to sixty thanks to Skyline Chilly on the Home of
the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Hey Alexa, Who's gonna wear it all?
Speaker 15 (26:53):
Getting?
Speaker 4 (26:54):
ESPN is fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio for welcome back since
he three to sixty. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
a service of Skyline Chili. Trying to get through a
couple of more of these phone calls. We got Charlie
Goldsmith coming up at one o'clock to break down everything
(27:17):
from the draft last night as well.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Joe is on hold. What's up?
Speaker 14 (27:20):
Joe the boy?
Speaker 16 (27:24):
Am I frustrated? For me? The scariest part isn't the player,
It's that he fits all the things theyking guys that
have failed miserably for him. I mean literally, I heard
someone say he checks every box but production. I'd say,
he really only checks the athleticism box and that's it, and.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
The production boxes is the most important box.
Speaker 17 (27:44):
Right.
Speaker 16 (27:44):
Well, here's the thing, if you so it was. John
Shearon put this out. Some Ji Metrics has that his
production metrics, which are based on decades of data, give
Stuart a sub twenty percent chance of being a long
term starter. I'm not talking like an all pro guy,
just being a long term starter. Metrics say he has
(28:05):
a twenty percent chance of being a starter. Let that
sink in. That's incredible. And then here's the sad part.
I I mean, you guys follow the same people I do.
You follow the good Berries and grid Iron grades and
those guys. And isn't it funny that the Steelers, Kansas
City Ravens, and Eagles all take guys right off of
their list.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (28:22):
That doesn't that just drive you nuts?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (28:24):
You know.
Speaker 14 (28:24):
And here's my go ahead.
Speaker 16 (28:27):
Now here's my last thing. And this is for you, Tony,
because you played, you played at a high level in
college and AL coach Golden made a comment last night
which just had me like, very confused. I want to
ask you about it. He said he called the coach
at Texas A and M and he's like, well, yeah,
what he really needs to do is he needed to
work on something with his hands. And I'm thinking, well,
(28:47):
he was with you for three years, and if he
didn't do it in three years there, why do you
think you're going to say the same thing that the
Texas A and M coach did And it's gonna work.
And so my question for you is this, you played
out college level or the college coaches that bad that
when people see that they don't have production and they
think they can change them. Is the college level coaching
(29:08):
that awful that they're going to become different players? Data
says they're not.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
I don't think it's bad.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
I just think there are sometimes a stubbornness with coaches
that feel like, all right, the athleticisms there, I'll get
the rest out of them. But again I go back,
and John Sharon made the point as well that I
was following up on, how do you expect production in
the NFL?
Speaker 2 (29:28):
If you don't produce in college?
Speaker 6 (29:30):
Man?
Speaker 16 (29:30):
Right, and if you're that big of a freak athlete,
you would think just by accident you would have okay production.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Correct, That's the simple point.
Speaker 16 (29:37):
And then my last question, and then I'll let you go.
Do NFL players at the highest level do they know
who the players are that aren't going to bean out
right away? Because I heard it was Matt Ryan said
about three years ago. He goes, players know who got
over drafted and who's not going to work out almost immediately.
Is that a true statement?
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Yeah, those first couple of days of camp, you can
have a good understanding of someone's got they don't got it.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I do agree with that. Joe, thank you for the call.
Speaker 16 (30:03):
Appreciate you guys.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Think ye, I do think it's interesting, you know when
when you look at this, Joe kind of mentioned, you know,
the Steelers go get Harmon, the Ravens get Malachi Stark's,
the Philadelphia Eagles get John Campbell and then the Chiefs
rounded out in the first round by going and getting
guy to protect Patrick Mahomes their most important investment. The
(30:25):
other teams in the AFC that are competitive are doing it.
They all got day one starters. The corner from Kentucky
is going to be a day one starter. In Buffalo,
we're talking about at seventeen, the Bengals taking a guy
that might not be a day one starter. Mike is
calling in Hamilton, what's up, Mike?
Speaker 14 (30:44):
Hey, Tenny, what's going on? How are you oh not
to beat?
Speaker 17 (30:47):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (30:48):
So as far as Harmon and Campbell go, they both
have injury histories, which I mean Campbell's are the linebackers
slid all the way down to the Eagles. So there
was other people that had questions about him Harmon. They've
also questioned his you know, drive and motor to play football.
So I don't think that this was a really sexy
draft as far as defensive linemen go, and you know, hey,
(31:11):
there's an absolute stud that's out there other than the
first couple guys anyway, So I don't necessarily think this
was an overreach. Did you listen to Most Show at
all yesterday?
Speaker 13 (31:20):
No?
Speaker 2 (31:20):
I did not.
Speaker 14 (31:22):
So James Arpene called this. He said that they were
high on him to begin with. So there was a
lot of talk that Rapine had with Shamar Stewart.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Yeah, Mike, I think that's that's fair. I just I
go back to the immediate impact that this team needs.
That the window is now, and if you if you
were to say, okay, there are concerns about Harmon and
there are concerns about Campbell, then that would mean they
probably aren't going to be day one starters or it's
a question mark. Do you think right now that day one,
(31:52):
game one Shamar Stewart is starting opposite of Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 14 (31:56):
Well, some of the things that I seen yesterday was
that he also slides inside it that big, and he
pushes the pocket up the middle. Possibly, I don't know
that he starts a lot of defensive ends rotate though,
is he in the rotation I could see it. You
have Osai on contract, you yeah, I mean you have
Osai on a one year contract. You have Murphy who
hasn't really proven much. I mean, I think it's a
(32:16):
depth piece in a rotation on the defensive line that
they drafted two young kids for it last year too.
So if he can move inside and push the pocket,
because I think I've seen the stat last night where
he was in the forties as far as forty, as
far as you know rush rate and you know pressures.
Do I think it's a great pick. No, But you
know the internet went crazy right after the pick last
(32:37):
night and they wanted either the the why or the
defensive back from Michigan who is still available, or Mike
Green who is still available. The defensive back from Michigan
didn't run, he has injury questions, there's the off field
stuff with Mike Green, his size, so you know, there's
(32:57):
just a lot of questions with a lot of people
in the first round on the stress. So, like I said,
do I think it's a home run pick. Absolutely not.
Do I think that it's another Miles Murphy, It's possible,
but uh, that Campbell. There's talks that Campbell's not even
ready the first three or four games of the year.
The fans in this city would go crazy if they
take Campbell. Campbell doesn't play this year.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Yeah, Mike, I I appreciate, thank you for the call.
Is there a pick Austin in your opinion that would
have could have been made last night that would have
gotten more of a positive reaction.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
Yeah, yeah, I mean mini picks would have been would
have gotten a more positive reaction.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
I just I go back to not if if if
it's not a sure shot that he's going to be
penciled in in week one, then I think it's it's
a risky pick.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
I mean yeah, And there's no guarantee that John Campbell
was going to be sure penciled in week one. There's
no guarantee Malexi Starks was going to be penciled in
week one. That I think was his point that we're
kind of at the spot where it wasn't a great spot.
Maybe a trade down, maybe you feel better that great
Shamar Stewart if you are traded down and maybe you
pick him a little bit later, and so on.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
I mean, look at the top of the draft in
previous years. Cam Warden is probably the third or fourth
quarterback taken, he would have been the sixth ranked quarterback.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Yeah last year, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
So it was.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
It was a down draft and a lot of players
had questions. We talked about We talked about ten different
defensive ends in the last two months.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
I'm just I go back to the idea and I'm
not trying to carry the water for the Bengals. I'm
not trying to make excuses. I look at it and
I say, Okay, this guy probably has a more a
higher ceiling than anybody else. And the Bengals are willing
to bet on that, and bet on Al Golden and
Jerry Montgomery. I get where they're coming from. I just
(34:45):
hope that they actually have the ability to do that,
because I haven't seen enough development in recent years.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
We have to take another break. We have a full
set of phone lines. Unfortunately, we don't have a ton
of time to take him. We've got Charlie Goldsmith coming up.
We'll try to get phone calls in as we go.
We'll have more time. Obviously, an hour number three of
Cincy three to sixty. This still our number one. Thanks
to Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Welcome back Cinty three to sixty thanks to Cinci Hirt.
Hour two on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks
for listening along. You know what it is. It's time
to get with our guy, Charlie Goldsmith. Let's talk Cincinnati Bengals. Charlie,
what's going on? How are you hey?
Speaker 17 (35:44):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Charlie? Walk me through.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Last night as Pick seventeen is getting ready to to happen.
I'm following along with what you're talking about with your
social media, your tweets. It felt like the draft was
falling pretty well for the Sincinnati Bengals. Let's start with
the actual pick at seventeen. Do you view that the
Bengals would have liked to move back or were they
(36:07):
wanting to get to the podium with Shamar Stewart in
your opinion, I.
Speaker 17 (36:11):
Mean, clearly right, they see something in Shamar Stewart. What
what I see the vision as is the Bengals putting
an immense amount of value in number one pass rusher
in the idea and the upside of that as a
potential Trey Hendrickson replacement. Like we've seen, we all understand
how much a true number one pass rusher can make
up for a million things going on in a defense.
(36:34):
And outside of Abdul Carter, Shamar Stewart was the only
guy in this class who had that. Plus he has
the tools to set the edge and do some real
damage when teams run the ball, giving giving Shamar Stewart
some some short turtop side. But you know, I had
several guys high on my board. You saw some some
very smart front offices. Take those guys and Derek Carmen
(36:55):
and Malachi starts in Jahad Campbell. What stewart short term impact,
specifically from a production standpoint is obviously going to be
a huge question. I was definitely surprised by the pick.
It is a kind of move you make if you
weren't around for the last three years when the team
failed to develop defensive players they drafted. Now, of course
(37:15):
they've got the confidence that they're going to be able
to do that, and now Al Golden, here you go.
It's time to do everything that they hired you to do.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
How do you make the case when you talk about
traits over production, because that is what Jamar Stewart is.
The production numbers weren't there. The traits are off the charts.
The raw athletics score everything you want a prospect to
look like and test like is there. The production is not.
How do you weigh those two?
Speaker 17 (37:43):
How Golden brought this up to like, to me, traits
verse production isn't necessarily even the debate that we saw
because there weren't Golden said this. There weren't guys, all right,
the guys who had a lot of stats, as a
RockA and Mike Green. But we understand pretty well that,
especially last night, what they confirmed and reinforced was that
size off the edge was something that they felt like
(38:04):
was was very much a must, which our Stewart brings
to the table. So like Milik Williams or excuse me,
Michel Williams had what five sacks, It's not like the
guys Jalen Walker didn't have a ton of sacks. It's
not like it was a bunch of guys with a
lot of sacks. Therk Carmon was another guy pressures more
than sex. It was number one edge rush potential theory
(38:24):
idea concepts which take all that was a grain assault
for what you will.
Speaker 10 (38:29):
It was that versus.
Speaker 17 (38:30):
Defensive tackle with medical conversations, you know, in terms of
injuries with Derk Carmon linebacker with medical conversations in terms
of injuries in Campbell and safety in Malachi starts with
some positional value conversation there. So it's not like they
picked him over a guy that looked like a slightly
less athletic version of Schamar Short who happened to have
(38:52):
more sacks, because that guy didn't exist in this draft.
They took Stewart over guys who they viewed as lesser
upside guys because they don't play as premium positions.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
We'll never find out, but do you feel like he
was at the top of their board? Because I wonder
a guy like Tyler Booker, who the Cowboys took if
he was available, would he have been on the list?
Walter Nolan, guys like that. Do you think Shamar Stewart
was the first option or do you think they would
have looked at a Tyler Booker or maybe even a
Walter Nolan or somebody else.
Speaker 17 (39:23):
Here's where I keep coming back to. This is my
biggest Honestly, this is the most shocking part to me
about all this. The Bengals put so much value in
the person in face to face interaction in meetings. If
I had and Nickel for every time they told us
about a guy who blew us away in the thirty visitor,
they went to the the coach went to the pro
(39:44):
day to get this feedback. In this perspective, and all
of these different opportunities that you have to get real
important face to face time, specifically with prospects who aren't
absolutely the cleanest like Shamar Stewart. Isn't you know from
a production standpoint, I'd like to learn more just kind
of his perspective on that, And the fact that one
they only got eighteen minutes with him as combined and
(40:07):
didn't do anything to circle back with him, And to
the fact that it's not a right Sure, you know,
Walton Owen sounds great, but it's not like all the
guys who made the most sense on paper for the
Bengals went before Schmart Stewart.
Speaker 10 (40:22):
It's not like there was some run.
Speaker 17 (40:24):
On exactly what the Bengals needed that put them in
like a hit the panic button type of situation. It's
I don't get the sense they were shocked that all
of the tough guys on a theoretical board were off
the table and they again had to make a panic move.
Speaker 10 (40:39):
So, if Stuart was.
Speaker 17 (40:41):
Always going to be a guy high on your board,
why didn't you do it? You literally always do and
get more FaceTime with him before the draft?
Speaker 4 (40:48):
Yeah, that to me was a question mark. And then
I look at the fallout afterwards. Pittsburgh lands Harmon, Malachi
Starch goes to Baltimore, the Philadelphia Eagles get Jahad Campbell.
Knowing now how the rest of the first rounds shaped
up on your board, how you've viewed the draft, did
you have any players that went after seventeen rated as
(41:08):
a better fit for the Bengals?
Speaker 17 (41:11):
Yeah, I had, I had Harmon, I'd start to Campbell
all ranked more highly. And now again I guess the
Bengals perspective. Obviously they have an opinion and the decision
that they stuck to having, you know, spent more time,
you know, a million more time on these guys than me.
When you look at the depth and the access they
have here again with Harmon, the medical problems, part of
(41:32):
the conversation. Same with Campbell. But all right, let's say
like even and they're they're dinged up and they missed
four games, they missed six games. Well, they're still going
to be every or close to every snap of defensive tackle,
every snap linebacker starters when they're ready, compared to Stewart,
who doesn't even have a window to be more than
(41:52):
a forty fifty percent snap guy in twenty twenty five.
So even with the injury conversation, you would have opportunities
to get guys as it would impact you more in
twenty twenty five. And that cycles me back to my
biggest overarching, number one thing that I keep going back to.
I think the Bengals just think this roster is really
(42:12):
really good at it, and they're drafting like it's twenty
twenty two, and that's the type of team they have,
and they have more confidence in Oren Burt's and Lucas Patrick,
and we'll see maybe one of those guys, not as much.
We'll see to night based on a reach that they
might make it one of those positions. But I really
get the sense that they actually do feel really confident
(42:33):
about a lot of the players that we have more
question marks around, and that's why they took this bet
on Chamar Swart because they didn't feel like we need
this now.
Speaker 10 (42:43):
And that's I think.
Speaker 17 (42:44):
Where you're seeing the disagreement between the fan base and
the team because the fan base, you know, and myself negative,
I more negatively do some of those players they haven't
a roster currently.
Speaker 10 (42:55):
I think the Bengals just.
Speaker 17 (42:56):
Really like that they have.
Speaker 5 (42:58):
How do you explain that difference? Like what could we
potentially be missing that they see that we don't about
how they view the players on the roster.
Speaker 17 (43:09):
You know, Ornberg started the Super Bowl right. You can
tuck yourself into all these players if you wanted to.
Gino Stone really was coming on at the end of
last season, Lucas Patrick has done a lot of good
things in Green Bay or earlier in his career, and
Zach's close with Matt lafleurin Like, you can tell yourself
a story about a lot of these players.
Speaker 10 (43:30):
I think a big one, actually a.
Speaker 17 (43:32):
Real significant one, because I think they think BJ Hill's
gonna be a much better pass rusher this season, and
that's that's not where I'm at with him, and I
think bj still gets starter. But again, I think there
are a lot of those differences that led to them
not picking a guy who was at one of their
what I viewed, I think we all viewed as massive
positions of meat. I think they might not view as
(43:54):
many of.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
Those as directorists do going into rounds two and three tonight,
Who do you think fits? Who do you think could fall?
How do you expect the Bengals to approach the second
and third rounds tonight?
Speaker 10 (44:09):
Well, that's the beauty of it, Austin.
Speaker 17 (44:10):
When you don't draft one of your biggest positions of
need in round one, you've got plenty of flexibility to
draft biggest positions of need in round two. So you know,
obviously I took defensive end off the board, but I'm
not taking any other position off the board at defensive
end like their fifth biggest need in my evaluation coming
into this draft. So you're still kind of in a
best player available at position of need because you haven't
(44:33):
failed really any of your positions in need yet. And
it's here that separates itself to me is safety Nick
him Men worry linebacker who I think even more will
be off the board. But then linebacker Kurston Schwesssinger, safety,
Zavier Wats, guard, Kate Ratledge, guard Jonah seven A. I
think any of those guys will be a run pretty
quickly to the podium. Pick after those guys, I'm training
(44:54):
back and I'm not even asking for much. If i
can pick up an extra fourth or an extra fifth,
I'm heavily considering that. When you look at what I
see to be a significant drop off after those guys
tonight and after those guys, really you are just reaching
for whatever need you feel like is the biggest. If
you're you're past those five guys and you feel that,
why that is your biggest need to just go get
(45:15):
damning stuff in or do something like that, because there
is a pretty significant drop off after positions needs for
the Bengals in my inflamation after those five.
Speaker 4 (45:22):
Guys, Charlie dan Horde yesterday said that the biggest hole
in his opinion on the roster is guard. If you
miss on guard tonight, do you run the risk of
a guard tomorrow to slot in or do you have
to revisit someone on the free agent market to identify
as someone that can come in and upgrade that position.
Speaker 17 (45:44):
Well, first, if they don't get Ratleig or a in
my instumation, like we heard Dak say, let's get through
the draft and then we'll readjust for agency, I'm calling
Brandon Shurf in between the second and third rounds if
I don't land Kay Ratleig or join a savn AA.
I feel very confident that they will land a guard tonight.
And it's not just the guard. It's the guy who's
listed as a center in a lot of places in
(46:05):
Jared Wilson. It's two guys listened at tackle in a
lot of places in Adi Trappello and Charles Grant, who
there are some different areas where they have crossover to
projectable scheme sets out of position change for each of them.
So like doyn't get something. But again, you know, you
(46:25):
went into the shout saying the Bengals need to get
a guard round two, but there are still you know,
because of what they haven't done at safety, at linebacker
and a guard as well. Doesn't make it as much
of a guarantee that it felt like because they didn't
address one of those three positions in the first round.
Som yes, guard guarded their biggest need, but they've got.
Speaker 10 (46:45):
So much else to do as well that.
Speaker 17 (46:47):
That to me, it's not as much of a lock
as it was that they take a Guarden round two.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
Lastly, anything tonight that would shock you that this team
does or does not do that that you would walk
away and and have serious questions.
Speaker 17 (47:00):
About, well, we're probably gonna be entering. Is the McKinney
Jackson zone is what I call it. And now you know,
I don't know if you if you follow my work,
you know I do like what McKinley Jackson did last season.
But when the Bengals drafted him, it was, man, that's
a reach for a guy that analysts projected to go
in the six round one. And then you sew the
Bengals response to that being well, you know, there aren't
(47:22):
many guys with that body type available in this draft
and and you know, so that made it more of
a premium finding and they tossed themselves into Jackson being
the third roup pick.
Speaker 10 (47:30):
Him again, he had a nice Rikie season.
Speaker 17 (47:33):
It was a reach in a desperate position of need,
like what I'm kind of worried about happening tonight, because
the Bengals didn't fill a need yesterday for the short term,
even though Stewart will play, but they didn't fill one
of the biggest needs is that they'll enter the McKinley
Jackson zone. Like I said, once you get past kind
of that top five I have available today, I might
just take the guy who I think is the position
(47:55):
you're least set up at. And you know, if you
get around three and you're still in that mindset or
even more in that mindset, that could lead to the
Bengals selecting a player that we even talked about as
a Day two option, a significant reach going to a
Kiley Jackson, don't tighte move. That's kind of what I'm
worried about tonight for the Bengals. But on the bright side,
there are some strong options like I mentioned in the
(48:16):
second round, but we'll see again. Shimo Stuart to be
a number one pass rusher in the NFL. But selecting
and certainly has an impact on your draft strategy going
forward for a team that only has six picks.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
Charlie, you mentioned following along with all your work. What's
the easiest way for listeners to follow along with everything
you got coverage wise for the Cincinnati Bengals and everything
you're doing with the Cincinnati Reds easiest way.

Walls not bubbles everything.
Speaker 15 (49:47):
You know Howie Roseman gets it in Duketoba and the
Bengal front office just don't They needed to improve it
ed rushing and tackling and you get a guy Shamar
Stewart that really does none of that, says he's gonna
bring you some own to the team, more like he's
going to bring a lot of width to the two,
and Al Golden says he finishes what in the world
does he finish out? And you got Zach Taylor with
the dumb statement saying, well he has near production.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
Come on, what are they doing?
Speaker 6 (50:10):
Guys?
Speaker 15 (50:10):
But that said welcome to the team, Schamar Away Stewart.
Speaker 2 (50:16):
Whoa jack?
Speaker 19 (50:18):
All right, Tony Austin, Hey, it's near production here, hey
near I'm hanging out with de e j. We couldn't
be more excited about this pick.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
We're going to get a lot of runs. Oh all right, guys,
talk to you later. It's near production.
Speaker 20 (50:37):
This is what happens when we don't get the Trey
Henderson situation addressed. You know, we have to take a
tradition of need rather than the actual player we want
and make a little panic pick. It's Billy Price written
all over it. When ragnarburn off the board, we just panic.
And I can't trust the front office with this pick
because they didn't even do their homework on this guy.
Apparently they didn't talk to him in the pre draft
(50:58):
process at all. And now we cannot afford to trade Trey.
I don't think, because we need his production, we can't
rely on Shamar to produce it all.
Speaker 4 (51:06):
Yet, you know, that's a good point we didn't hit on.
If the Trey Hendrickson situation had resolved itself one way
or the other, would that pick have still been made?
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Yes, I think it will. Yeah, I do.
Speaker 5 (51:16):
And to clarify, they did talk to him pre draft.
They had a eighteen minute visit with him at the
COMBA that he did not recall that he said he
did not recall, which you visit with a lot of teams,
I understand. But they did talk to him at the COMBA.
Speaker 21 (51:33):
Hello, this is former President Ronald Reagan. And will there
they go again? The Bengals have once again completely underwhelmed
me with a first round non lottery pick. And to
top it off, I think we got to see a
preview of Shamar Stewart's tackling abilities when he was unable
to even bring down Roger Goodell on stage last night.
Speaker 20 (51:57):
So the biggest loser of the draft for me was
probably should or sand dropping the day two.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
And I would say I feel sorry.
Speaker 20 (52:02):
For the guy, but you know, my mama taught me
not to lie, so I can't say I feel sorry
for that dude.
Speaker 2 (52:08):
And I think the biggest winner was probably the New
York Giants.
Speaker 20 (52:11):
They got at Dull Carter, traded back up and got Dart,
so they got a fifty option on him.
Speaker 6 (52:15):
Let him develop a little bit. He's big, he's strong.
I mean, they're comparing.
Speaker 20 (52:19):
Him to Josh Allen, and if he's even you know,
seventy five percent of Josh Allen, that's world's better than
any quarterback they've had recently.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
You know, Zach Top doesn't lie either.
Speaker 5 (52:28):
He sings about that Tony Austin, Johnny from out here, Johnny, look, folks,
public service announcement for the President.
Speaker 13 (52:35):
I didn't like to pick last night.
Speaker 22 (52:36):
He wasn't on my big board. I didn't see enough
production to make him the seventeenth overall pick.
Speaker 17 (52:41):
However, I am so over this toxic fan base.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Shut up, folks.
Speaker 23 (52:47):
There's a light outside of football.
Speaker 17 (52:50):
There's the season ticket holder, folks, and I'm okay with
the pick.
Speaker 24 (52:54):
It's not the end of the world. This poor kid
is exciting to play for the Begels.
Speaker 5 (52:58):
Shut there, isn't life besides football, Johnny, Uh yeah, I
do think to clarify, the frustration is not with the
player or person himself to see him that excited and
his dad like, that's cool, It's never gonna get old.
It's about the decision makers who submitted his name that
(53:21):
I think people have a problem with.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
God, that name, gentlemen, is Rob from Michigan. Come on, Rob.
Speaker 6 (53:29):
Oh my god, the.
Speaker 11 (53:34):
Number one ranked linebacker is on the board and they
take this guy.
Speaker 7 (53:41):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (53:44):
You're kidding me. Have a good day, gentlemen, Thank you, thank.
Speaker 7 (53:49):
You, thank God.
Speaker 14 (53:52):
I'm just so deflated.
Speaker 9 (53:54):
Once I heard that pick, I was saying, joh care.
Speaker 7 (54:02):
Oh even know his name?
Speaker 2 (54:05):
Diesel pe, Diesel Peak, hope man birds sound nice?
Speaker 25 (54:10):
Yeah, Hey, guys, talkback Mattersky, Happy Friday.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
The draft I'm a little worried about.
Speaker 25 (54:20):
But I have a feeling that they went all by
Al Golden, So I.
Speaker 26 (54:26):
Think his.
Speaker 25 (54:28):
Future, if that's what you want to say, his stamp
on this team started with this draft, and he knew
more about this guy and what project that he's going
to be.
Speaker 6 (54:38):
What is your thoughts and all our great callers.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
Yeah, we've probably agreed with you having them today.
Speaker 27 (54:44):
Yeah, oh, happy Friday, guys. I got to say, last
night's draft picked is pretty much a lot like my
daughter's boyfriends that came home disappointing. I think there's probably
more promise in that defensive end room. A guy running
for Congress, Well, look at his hanging in there by
(55:05):
the course.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
I hope for the best. Whoday, everybody, thank you, thank you,
pausing to bation this song.
Speaker 28 (55:11):
This was just my gut feeling right after they made
the pick. I think that Duke Tobin zeroed Awn Walter
Nowan a few picks before, really thought he was going
to be there, had concerns about the other guys that
we that we liked, and it.
Speaker 10 (55:24):
Seemed like they panicked.
Speaker 14 (55:26):
I mean, I know they.
Speaker 28 (55:27):
Made the pick pretty relatively quickly into the end of
the clock, but it's just they did.
Speaker 17 (55:32):
There wasn't much excitement in the room when they showed it.
Speaker 28 (55:35):
He wasn't even one of the thirty guys they've running
for a visit. It just didn't seem right.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
Yeah, rapt night one was fun.
Speaker 29 (55:44):
We had a baby vomiting when his dad was picked
in the first that we had. Shador Sanders slid into
the second round despite mel Kiper glazing room repeatedly, and
we had the Browns missing out on Travis Hunter. As
far as the Bengals go, I don't know why they
can continue to overvalue athletes versus football players. It hasn't
(56:04):
worked the last few years. Hopefully this one works out,
but it's kind of disheartening.
Speaker 2 (56:09):
Have a good one, guys, it's a fair argument.
Speaker 10 (56:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 30 (56:14):
So last night I watched the draft and I was
really stoked about these picks. When they picked the Stewart
and then I've read an article from Princeton saying he
wasn't stable to pick the draft. The leticism assigned everything
starting huge dealing. But man, the more I think about it,
I'm just kind of bummed about it. Like especially seeing
(56:34):
who went after him. It's a bumber.
Speaker 6 (56:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 31 (56:39):
Yeah, this pick will remind older Bengal fans of the
nineteen eighty four first round pick Pete Kotch. Looks like Tarzan,
plays like change.
Speaker 32 (56:50):
I've heard that term a few times, but what I'm
hearing you say is, once again, they took traits over production. Yes,
they chose athleticism over plug and play. Yes, And basically
we can put this guy on the death chart behind
Miles O A. Murphy and Joseph O Sideline and wait
for this to happen.
Speaker 5 (57:13):
Joseph O Sideline. Now let me let's can I play
Devil's Advocate for me?
Speaker 9 (57:19):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (57:19):
Our guy Joe Goodberry posted the college production comparisons Shamar
Stewart compared to all these other guys that the Bengals
have drafted, including Cam Sample, Miles Murphy, Joseph Osai, those guys,
even Marcus Hunt. Those guys all had great college production.
Margaus not not great NFL players.
Speaker 4 (57:40):
Okay, I don't know, Just you know, something to consider.
You're searching for it, you're finding it.
Speaker 18 (57:46):
Hey, fellasny Man, I apologize being to kind of out
of pocket last month. You know, I've been doing radio tours.
Speaker 17 (57:53):
Man.
Speaker 18 (57:53):
Everybody every city wants me on their local channels man
to get my draft on takes.
Speaker 24 (57:58):
But I'm back man.
Speaker 18 (58:00):
You know, what are we doing? We draft a guy
with four point five sacks. Man, that's four point five
more sacks th Austin had this past four years. Unacceptable?
Speaker 6 (58:10):
Man?
Speaker 11 (58:11):
What are we doing?
Speaker 18 (58:12):
This team is freaking doomed.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
We did have more sacks than we did. This is DJ, Hey, DJ,
so how do I feel underwhelmed?
Speaker 33 (58:22):
So we got a guy who can't stop the run,
didn't sack the quarterback, missus tackles. Sounded like we were
looking for somebody to fit into last year's defense. As
Ottie said, we're putting a whole lot on Al Golden
being a genius because the rest of the chuckleheads on
that coaching staff have proven they don't know how to
develop talent.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
Thank you.
Speaker 33 (58:46):
I think the entire Cincinnati Bengals organization should be drug tested.
Speaker 6 (58:52):
Thank you, Thank you. Draft weekend day.
Speaker 34 (59:01):
Man, convince myself that Stuart was the right pick. Who
knows time will tell. I love the athleticism, I love
some of the traits. But man, at the end of
the day, production hasn't matter, right. I mean, he's being
compared at least in athleticism besides to Miles Garrett. Yeah,
we gotta stop that thirty two sacks in college.
Speaker 6 (59:22):
It's true.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
We gotta stop the comparisons.
Speaker 26 (59:24):
Man, this kid's got a couple problems. You can't see
him to mind as a zipper. He's gonna get that
new football Moneydy.
Speaker 35 (59:37):
What up?
Speaker 8 (59:37):
Boys, it's a guy in seven. Shout out to that
second car to after Mark Baby, let's go thingle fans
are always miserable no matter what. Let's get after boys.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Who does man sad scene guy in seven.
Speaker 36 (59:53):
I didn't want the Cardinals to draft no.
Speaker 30 (59:56):
One.
Speaker 36 (59:56):
I'd rather had him. And then I love the two safeties,
but I think you know they're they're planning on taking
a safety in the second round.
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
You got to guard. I hope they do.
Speaker 36 (01:00:08):
I hope they take a safety in the second round,
a guard in the third round, and hopefully, uh they
can coach Steward up.
Speaker 6 (01:00:18):
All rue true, Let's go Tony Audi from out healthy.
It's like this.
Speaker 37 (01:00:24):
You want to draft a pass rusher, somebody that could
get to the quarterback. Four pointy five sacks in three years,
thirty seven career games, thirty solo tackles. I mean, yeah,
he looks good, T shirt shorts. He's the man. We
need some production on the field, actual production. This is
(01:00:45):
like drafting John Ross because he had a fast forty
time moelt.
Speaker 6 (01:00:50):
That's it. That's tough to bring John.
Speaker 38 (01:00:52):
I really is concerned about shamor Stewart.
Speaker 6 (01:00:54):
I hope he develops.
Speaker 38 (01:00:56):
But Baltimore getting Ed Reid Part two and Cleveland now
load up all these draft picks, that they make those work,
that's going to be a much bigger problem. And Kansas
City got that guy from Ohio State too at the
end of the first round, so we still have our work.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Cutout for him. I thought the AFC North drafted very
well last night.
Speaker 23 (01:01:15):
Austin Tony, Hi, ire, Hey, Ian, I'm going to.
Speaker 21 (01:01:20):
Go the other way.
Speaker 23 (01:01:21):
Come on, and everybody's crying. But what if this guy
comes in as in every other down guy behind Trey
or moving left or right across the line like they
say he can do, and causes disruption like they say
he can do, then we're in freaking business, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
I dout to be the outliner.
Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
I think that Ian has a good point, because yes,
the production is not there. But how many guys last
year on the Bengals defense were disruptive? I mean, seriously,
how many enough? I mean what I wrote down after
reading through the Shamar Stewart pro files was late Bloomer,
disruptive but not productive. Even some disruption would be welcomed
(01:02:08):
in this defense. The fortunate thing for Stewart is that
the bar is extremely low and he could surpass that
relatively quickly. I feel like, right, yeah, Okay, I mean
that that's an upside.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Do you pick a home run hitter that doesn't hit
home runs because he has big arms and he's got
warning track power.
Speaker 39 (01:02:32):
Oh hey, guys, Jeff and New Richmond. Happy Friday to you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
Jeff.
Speaker 39 (01:02:39):
The draft was definitely deflating last night. Well wait, let
me say that again slowly. I agree with Mark's first
time for everything.
Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
But he's right.
Speaker 39 (01:02:52):
You know, Duke Tobin, anytime he has to pick outside
the top ten in the first round, he peases pants
and it's a shame.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Oh man, thank you, Jeff.
Speaker 5 (01:03:04):
Jeff, could hear from me? It's a finish No double
dips today, Jeff. We don't have time.
Speaker 40 (01:03:09):
It's the paintball guru here. Duke Tobin, do not draft
or promise you draft for solid stats. Now you don't
coach him up. How's that doing with Miles Murphy? Really, Duke,
(01:03:30):
you better keep low steak quiet because you dorns here
aren't aiming true.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Oh man, getting it from the guru.
Speaker 41 (01:03:38):
That's not good. You don't want that. Gosh bustin menton.
It's bummerder from South Bend. Happy Friday, guys, Frankly, I
like to pick. I've seen the guy's tape and he's
got quite a motor. Al Golden said he's an ascending player.
Speaker 42 (01:03:52):
Uh, and I do believe that he will play on
day one in a rotation. I'm not scared about this
pick at all.
Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
Nothing but love for Mark when he calls.
Speaker 42 (01:04:02):
But sometimes when he calls, I feel like grabbing a
bottle of Jack Daniels and sitting on the train tracks.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Have a great day, guys man.
Speaker 5 (01:04:10):
But the first third down of the year, Shamar Stewarts
could a sack the quarterback and we're gonna go ballistic.
Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
I mean, I get the logic behind the pick.
Speaker 6 (01:04:19):
I usually do.
Speaker 43 (01:04:20):
There usually is some kind of logical reason for it,
but just feels like other teams make more logical picks
and they seem to hit more often. It's just frustrating
that it's a question mark like it always is. I
don't know that you guys know what Mayor Pike's middle
name is. It's reed to.
Speaker 6 (01:04:40):
Tony and.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Tony.
Speaker 44 (01:04:46):
You had a draft guru on some national guy on
back in February I think it was, and he talked
about Stuart being a possible Bengals pick, and he said
he had great potential and great size, but he did
not know how to use his hands. Do you think
that's a problem.
Speaker 11 (01:05:06):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:05:06):
Yeah, you need to be active with your hands. If
you allow the offensive lineman to get his hands on
you and you're not able to swat him away, and
it's gonna be really hard to get after the quarterback
with these big tackles in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
He's got five months to learn how to use them.
Speaker 45 (01:05:19):
Yep, Louke Bima, I think people are just frustrated more
than anything, myself included. Guy feels like a project and
our projects recently haven't turned out very well. The guy
talking about drafting Jesus Christ. I wish we could. That
guy knows a thing or two about moving the rock.
Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
He sure does. He sure does. He does how to
use his hands.
Speaker 46 (01:05:42):
Abulous Friday. There, Tony and Austin. It's Jim from home. Hey, Jim, Ayjim,
And yes, I was surprised. I think I might have
gone a different direction. I thought the Bengals would go
a different direction. But hey, they're all young men, and
it's all about the ceiling and hope and the perspective. Well,
if you're kneeling on the ceiling, of course, the floors
(01:06:04):
are gorgeous. Have a great rest of your Friday, and
maybe have a great goose shot for me.
Speaker 18 (01:06:09):
Okay, great goose, Kyle, Okay, I know about that, hey,
fellows man, all this trade, no double dips today.
Speaker 47 (01:06:16):
Vin Audie, tell what's going off at a Jules can from.
Speaker 8 (01:06:20):
The Canana Pie. You already noticed the same.
Speaker 47 (01:06:24):
As last year. Not just picks that is necessarily gonna
uh make you do backflipt down the highway. But it
ain't one of them picks that's don't make you back
your head against the wall either. I think it's like
Men's We'll see how it goes.
Speaker 10 (01:06:41):
I ain't rooting on his downfall.
Speaker 47 (01:06:43):
Samar Stewart, you're up. Maybe show us what you got.
Speaker 48 (01:06:46):
Okay, this is Tom and cold Spring. I led me
to the list of people that were underwhelmed with the
Bengals picked last night. But my sons do a lot
of research on pro and conn evaluations of al and
the one thing that came up on this guy we
picked was he tends to disrupt things and then somebody
(01:07:09):
else gets credit for the sacks, So he's in the
middle of the action or breaking up the scheme of
the offense.
Speaker 6 (01:07:14):
So there's that to maybe.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
Hope for.
Speaker 5 (01:07:19):
Yeah, I'm in favor of disruption. Sure, that's all we
have time for today. We need to get a break.
We're gonna come back. We're gonna do a touch and go,
and then we're gonna choose our winner.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Choose our winner.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
Get a quick injury update, Tommy g and Moore coming up.
Cincy three sixty. Phone lines will open back up after
that on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
Thanks to Cinty Shirts.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports station.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
All Right, welcome back.
Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
We've got a couple things to do and not a
lot of time to do it. Cincy three to sixty
thanks to Cincy Shirts. Before we get a talkback winner,
it's time for today's Postmanlaw. Injury report delivered by Postmanlaw.
Injured Postman delivers reds rof ya yesterday, which means not
a ton from a Major League Baseball standpoint, it is
worth noting rehdd Louder is expected to throw an up
and down bullpen session tomorrow. Tyler Stevenson is in his
(01:08:11):
reheb assignment and Triple A Louisville along with Sam maul
Wade Miley made his start as well. No word yet
on Carson Spiers, but we will continue to watch that
closely along with Christian and Carnassio and Strand. That makes
it today's Postman Law Injury Report delivered by Postman Law
Injured Call eight four to four Postman Let's give away
since he sharts gift card.
Speaker 29 (01:08:31):
Oh what a weekend it was for the Reds, but
not for the O's, especially the rubber match yesterday on
the twentieth day of the fourth month, in which TJ.
Friedel collected his twenty fourth hit on the season. Mm hmm,
en route to twenty four Reds crossing the plate.
Speaker 6 (01:08:47):
Mm hmm. Oh, brother, interesting.
Speaker 29 (01:08:49):
I want a couple of fun facts for you football fans.
The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't scored twenty four in a game
since Week fourteen of last year. Oh, the Browns since
week thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Love it It's pretty good.
Speaker 24 (01:09:01):
Love it a Scott these Herds, Tony Pike's good friend.
Speaker 49 (01:09:06):
Brother.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
I forgot.
Speaker 5 (01:09:08):
I meant this to play this for you during our
show the other day, Brother left the talkback for Scott Sloan.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Oh that was not a nominee.
Speaker 5 (01:09:17):
I just meant to play it on the show the
other day, and I forgot.
Speaker 28 (01:09:21):
Hey, Tony Austin, how y'all doing Mark and Florence the
first skip to take a break from the ads and
enjoy some's in with Mark.
Speaker 6 (01:09:31):
Freedom leading, all.
Speaker 45 (01:09:35):
Freedo leading, all.
Speaker 6 (01:09:39):
Marklein in a too ho.
Speaker 14 (01:09:42):
And most importantly freedom leading.
Speaker 22 (01:09:44):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
I love that Mark, Thank you.
Speaker 24 (01:09:50):
Hello, this is forest Greenville, Alabama.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Forced.
Speaker 24 (01:09:55):
I just wanted to say that I do think the
Reds are like a box of chocol.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
You just don't know what you're.
Speaker 6 (01:10:02):
Going to get.
Speaker 24 (01:10:04):
I enjoy watching that early run. He's so fast.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
Man.
Speaker 24 (01:10:09):
If I'd have been that fast back in Vietnam, I
probably might have had a chance to save my best
good friend, Bubba.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Bubba. Life is like a box of Chocolate's good right there.
That's strong for what it's worth.
Speaker 50 (01:10:23):
Another draft night at the Bengals need a line. If
we had fourteen picks, I think we might be fine.
So picker started around the Superstar surprise. We've learned a
lesson that undrafted us still guys.
Speaker 21 (01:10:41):
The draft is unpredictable.
Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
The lawyers will do fine.
Speaker 50 (01:10:46):
Duketobin have the draft of your life.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Man, I love that one. I don't know if it
aged well, but that was awesome. It kind of aged
like milk, but golly, that's a good one. And then
yesterday at.
Speaker 17 (01:11:03):
Sc started from the bottom, Spencer Steers, Yeah, started from
the bottom. Now his first home run it's here, stuttered
from the bottom.
Speaker 10 (01:11:11):
Spencer Steer star starter.
Speaker 13 (01:11:13):
From the bottom.
Speaker 48 (01:11:14):
Now his first home run is here with the zero.
Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
Now he's gone.
Speaker 37 (01:11:17):
Yeah, Spencer Steer went deep and that's a home run.
Speaker 14 (01:11:21):
Lands on the mike.
Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Talking about the math facts zero plus one.
Speaker 17 (01:11:25):
Now he's back on track because he started from the bottom.
Speaker 6 (01:11:27):
Sier Steer.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Nice, that's incredible.
Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
Yeah, And I met our guy last night who made
that talkback, Wow, Michael winner. Michael was at the Holy Grail,
had an Adam dun jersey on. He's got to be
the winner, and uh yeah, he told me. I said,
did you use like AI? He said no, I'm I produce.
I did it myself.
Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
Michael, you're the man.
Speaker 5 (01:11:48):
So Michael, this week's win is our winner with started
from the bottom Spencer Steer.
Speaker 4 (01:11:53):
Congratulations, Congratulations to Michael. Another fantastic week. We've got an
hour to go. Tom deserved, Tom Gallairder will join us
to start our three and then plenty more on the draft,
plenty more on your phone calls after Tommy g five one, three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty Centcy three to sixty thanks to
Cinci starts on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):

Speaker 4 (01:12:32):
Welcome back our three Cincy three sixty on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, thanks to our friends at Penn Station.
Obviously a lot of back and forth today on the
NFL Draft. Shamar Stewart, What the Bengals have done, a
lot of mixed reviews, I would say, have come in
around Shamar Stewart. Here's the thing, No mixed reviews about
what FC Cincinnati is doing. Winners of four in a row,
(01:12:55):
tied for first now in the Eastern Conference standings, and
a guy we get to speak to every Friday that
has chosen not to trade back, not to move out
of his original pick selection, but to stay where he's
normally scheduled, make the pick, make the appearance the voice
of FC Cincinnati, Tom Galada, what's up, Tommy.
Speaker 6 (01:13:13):
Tony, Tony Tony.
Speaker 49 (01:13:15):
To be fair, my demands to move back in the
most show three to six were sky high, and he
just wouldn't. He just wouldn't meet my trade demands. So
here we are in our number three, in our usual slot.
Nowhere else I'd rather be. But you know, listen, you
got to answer the phone, right, you gotta take the
call and see what's.
Speaker 6 (01:13:32):
On the table.
Speaker 49 (01:13:33):
And then Moe wasn't willing to offer what you guys bring,
So I'm gonna stick with with joining you here in
our number three on Fridays.
Speaker 6 (01:13:41):
Yeah, and we got a lot going.
Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
This is huge, This is huge.
Speaker 4 (01:13:44):
Before we talked about the Orange Blue, you're a Cleveland
Browns fan.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
You're Browns.
Speaker 4 (01:13:49):
Last night moved out of the number two slot, the
ability to draft Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
They moved to five.
Speaker 4 (01:13:55):
They get Mason Graham as a as a Browns guy,
What was your feel on the first round last night?
Speaker 49 (01:14:01):
You know, my overall reaction was, Okay, they need a lot, right,
the Browns have struggled. Obviously, that Shaun Watson deal just
handcuffed them for a long long time, so they needed
more assets. And I think most people would agree to
Travis Hunter is going to be a fantastic talent at
one position or the other, or maybe both over the
(01:14:22):
course of his career.
Speaker 6 (01:14:24):
But does he fix all their problems overnight.
Speaker 49 (01:14:28):
No, And I think they needed more draft assets in
order to restock, and I think it shows an indication,
although maybe in a couple of hours it'll be proven
that I'm wrong based on what they do with thirty
three and thirty six, but that they're not planning to
take a quarterback you know, very high this year, that
they value next year's quarterback class in a different way
(01:14:50):
and now have two first round picks to address that.
Speaker 6 (01:14:52):
So it'll be interesting. I think.
Speaker 49 (01:14:55):
You know, I'm on like Ford, tex Chains with various
Browns fans from different points of my life, and you know,
majority of folks were in favor of it.
Speaker 6 (01:15:05):
I had one friend who's like livid, like so mad,
I was dying.
Speaker 49 (01:15:10):
I was just dying, laughing, like I'm definitely ordering him
a Mason Graham jersey today, shifting it to his house.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
But no, I'm okay with it.
Speaker 6 (01:15:18):
I can live with it.
Speaker 4 (01:15:20):
Browns do possess the first and the fourth pick tonight
in the second round as well. That is something to
pay attention to as it relates to FC Cincinnati Tommy
twelve points over the last four matches.
Speaker 40 (01:15:31):
That is.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
A streak that one they needed.
Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
It's welcome to see because it feels like with each
match that goes by, they're coming together more and more. Yes,
there are still things to work on, but as we've
talked to last couple of times, doing so when you're
talking about getting three points is a lot easier than
talking about a loss or a drawl when you still
get the result you won.
Speaker 6 (01:15:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 49 (01:15:56):
Absolutely, And I think it's a team that's growing in performance,
growing in availability, and getting closer to having their best
eleven out on the pitch, which should excite a lot
of people. So I think that you should be enthused
about what we have seen over these four games. Is
it perfect? No, does it need to be perfect in
mid April. No, But to get those points, to get
(01:16:18):
the max number of points over those last four matches
and to start to feed some guys back into the
lineup from injury, I think are all positives, and I
think we saw Kevin Danka play really well. I saw
I thought Brian and Nunga had his best performance of
the season last week, and filling in for Obing and
Wilbedo again obviously Evander was fantastic. So a lot of
(01:16:39):
the pieces are falling into place that we've kind of
been waiting on for a couple of months, and that's okay.
Like on these shows, everybody, we've talked about the why behind,
you know, some of the lack of performances at times,
and now I think we're starting to see them come together.
Speaker 6 (01:16:53):
And that's a big, big positive for Pat and his team.
Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
When you mentioned and I know we talked about it
last week, Evander and Dank and starting fast against a
team that on paper you're better than, how important is
it to get that production, not only to get the goals,
but to get the goals within the first ten minutes
of the match to set a tone for the rest
of the way.
Speaker 6 (01:17:15):
Well, I think it really did right And f C.
Speaker 49 (01:17:18):
Cincinnati has just been so good since the start of
twenty twenty three, thirty seven to one and four when
they score first, so that means when they've gotten that
first goal.
Speaker 6 (01:17:28):
They've only blown that lead to not get a win in.
Speaker 49 (01:17:33):
Five of forty two results, which is pretty remarkable. They've
obviously been very good in these one goal games. They've
won seventeen times, seventeen straight times when they scored the
first goal. So kind of everything's lined up really well
for them in that regards, and I just think they've
you know, lacked some of that offensive production, some of
that offensive spark early in matches this year. But now
(01:17:54):
we're starting to see it, and maybe we're starting to
see what Kevin Dank is truly capable of. I thought,
like I said that he was very very good in
the way he attacked the ball and the runs that
he made in that game on the road at Chicago
last weekend. And so if we start to see, you know,
denke comfortable, and obviously Evander is playing in a way
(01:18:14):
right now, having missed a couple of games, but still
producing where he's now working his way, you know, into
that way too early MVP conversation, and Luca Orshano, you know,
hasn't really produced with the numbers.
Speaker 6 (01:18:27):
I've talked to Pat Noonan about it, and.
Speaker 49 (01:18:29):
Pat's been very enthusiastic about the way that he has
played and felt that he's been goal dangerous, But he
doesn't have a goal in the league game this year
and just got his first assist last week in that
game against the Fire. So when you start to see
the numbers from Luca and and Kevin's playing, you know,
now maybe the way that we saw at Chicago and
Evander continues to fire on all cylinders, we're going to
(01:18:49):
get a lot more of those.
Speaker 6 (01:18:50):
Early goals and that's going to change the equation in
a big, big way.
Speaker 4 (01:18:55):
You mentioned this team being close to full strength. How
close are they to have an all hands on deck
and disposal for coach Pat noon on and they give
a match?
Speaker 7 (01:19:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 49 (01:19:04):
I mean good news is of being a Wobodo has
trained all week, so he's available for selection tomorrow. Will
Pat using him coming back from injury in a starting
role where you bring him off the bench, that remains
to be seen. If it's off the bench, certainly a
great weapon to have to help you close out a game.
And then you have Kubo and teenageer Davy he said
are still out for this game this weekend, but that
(01:19:26):
both should be back in with the full group next week.
And you know, barring anything happening in this match tomorrow
afternoon against Sporting Kansas City, then it's game on. Right now,
we're talking about you have pretty much everybody available for selection.
Speaker 6 (01:19:42):
Matt Boska, he played the first half, had to come.
Speaker 49 (01:19:45):
Out after forty five minutes, so maybe they stretched that
to sixty ish minutes. But you know, he's healthy. It's
just a matter of getting back to ninety minute match fitness.
He may be there next week. And if that's the case,
now you're talking about a team that that's healthy, that
has all their weapons available for Pat new and suddenly
Pat Newton it's gonna spend maybe a little more time
in that room with his assistant coaches looking at all
(01:20:07):
of his options as to what the starting eleven looks like.
It also gives them some death to get depth because
once we switch this calendar to May and bring on
those flowers from all the April showers, right, you know,
once we get there, we get back into some midweek
matches in the middle of May, so the second half
of May is much more congested as far as the
schedule is concerned. So he's going to need that depth.
(01:20:29):
So I think that's a big piece of the puzzle
moving forward, and that we've seen this depth perform. Like
I said Brian Nungeth, I've had his best game in
Orange and Blue in the match at Chicago. So I
think those are all really important puzzle pieces for pat
moving forward.
Speaker 4 (01:20:44):
When you look at the matchup tomorrow, a team in
Sporting Kansas City that's two to one and six on
the year, so on paper, again you're the better club.
Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
It's not easy to.
Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
Win multiple matches in a row, or multiple games in
a row in any sport. You're going for five, that's right.
What's the biggest key for FC Cincinnati tomorrow night to
extend this winning streak against the team that on paper
they should.
Speaker 6 (01:21:08):
Yeah, absolutely should.
Speaker 49 (01:21:10):
And to be fair, Sporting Kansas City has got a
little bit of a bump since they made the coaching change.
Of course, they let legendary Peter Remith go, and then
those three matches since the change, they've won two of
three and scored nine.
Speaker 6 (01:21:23):
Goals I think.
Speaker 49 (01:21:24):
Now, granted they got five of them in the match
last weekend San Jose, so they're scoring a bit more.
I think they had six goals in the first six
league games before that. So look, I think it starts defensively.
They got to be really good, but then you just
have to punish them. Right, you're at home to a
two thirty game. The kids are gonna be there, they're
gonna be loud, listen, it should be a great atmosphere,
and you.
Speaker 6 (01:21:44):
Got to jump all over them. You've been good at
home this year.
Speaker 49 (01:21:47):
You can't give them an inch, because if you give
them an inch, they're a team that's growing in confidence
a little bit based on the recent results and based
on the game last week at San Jose when they
scored five goals. It was the biggest offensive output for
the team since twenty nineteen. So I think you're healthy now,
you know, or very close to that, and then having
your best eleven available. Now, let's see what that group
(01:22:08):
can do together out on a pitch. You got to
jump all over and we talked about a few minutes ago,
those early goals. But if you get this thing rolling
quickly and jump on them, then that Sporting Kansas City
team may fold up and decide they've seen enough.
Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
Sun in the forecast for tomorrow. That is a welcome
site here in Cincinnati. With some of the games that
this team has already played in what does sun mean
for your shoe game as you get ready to take
on Sporting Kansas City.
Speaker 6 (01:22:39):
You know, it's a good question.
Speaker 49 (01:22:40):
I looked around my closet the other day kind of
thinking about what direction I was going to go in
for Saturday.
Speaker 6 (01:22:47):
So I think I think it may have some debut
heat ready to go. So we'll see.
Speaker 4 (01:22:51):
I'll send you a photo I did see yesterday it
was was published that Thomas Mueller from Byron Munich Head
had rejected a contract offer from FC Cincinnati. I know
I read that that Cincinnati owns Mueller's discovery rights, but
I don't know how all of that works. But what
it does tell me is while it didn't work out
(01:23:11):
was Thomas Mueller, it does kind of add to the
fact that you've already discussed that this team is always
looking for what's next and if there's an addition out
there that helps him immediately.
Speaker 6 (01:23:21):
Yeah. Right.
Speaker 49 (01:23:21):
The word is always ambitious, I think when you're talking
about this team and what they're looking to do, and
they're going to continue to be ambitious and trying to
improve the roster, and you have an owner in Carl Lindner.
Speaker 6 (01:23:31):
W We talked about this the first couple.
Speaker 49 (01:23:33):
Of chats we had this season where he went out
obviously and drastically improved this roster by adding the likes
of the Vander and Kevin Denke and then you know,
giving Luca Orshannel the Rays and so now that I mean,
you're you're in a conversation with someone like that. I mean,
that's just another you know, feather.
Speaker 6 (01:23:52):
In the cap.
Speaker 49 (01:23:53):
Now, it didn't work out, but it just shows that
Carl's continually invested in giving the resources to Chris Albright
and his style to improve the team. So you know,
I think Pat said, yes, we're in a press conference
that they didn't make a move that just to add
an additional player, because they have a good group and
you're adding guys back in like of being a Wilblo
like Matt Baska. Vander was out for a few games,
(01:24:14):
so you know, you're bringing pieces back in, so some
of your holes. Obviously you are not glaring when you
have your your unit complete. Now, will they try to
add some pieces in the summer. Absolutely. I think I
heard Chris Albright on Serious XM and he was saying
that they had a deal basically had the finish line
earlier in the week and it kind of got sabotaged
by the agent fell apart.
Speaker 6 (01:24:32):
I don't know if that's the tsmulital I don't know.
I don't know what deal it was.
Speaker 49 (01:24:35):
He didn't give any specifics and nobody else has given
me any specifics.
Speaker 6 (01:24:38):
But you know that they were close to adding a piece.
Speaker 49 (01:24:40):
But I think the approach is right, that you're not
just adding a piece to add a piece and then
maybe you're handcuffed in the summer. You have a lot
of the right players right now, you don't have a
glaring deficiency, and now you're starting to see some of
the depth.
Speaker 6 (01:24:52):
So I think that that they're managing this thing well.
Speaker 49 (01:24:55):
And look those resources the Carl made available, you know
for an offer to Thomas Mueller will also be available
in the summer if the right piece is interested and
the conversations happen in a positive manner.
Speaker 4 (01:25:09):
Just feels like it sends the right message to the
club and the fan base, even during a four match
win streak, that you're always still looking to add a
piece that's gonna put you on that level to bring
home an MLS Cup, Right, And I.
Speaker 49 (01:25:20):
Think the agents as well, right, Yeah, I mean I
think I think it's a message to agents and other
clubs like, look, we're gonna We're willing to do the
things that we need to do to.
Speaker 6 (01:25:28):
Make this team better and invest in players. So I
think that's a positive.
Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
I love it, Tommy g the voice of FC Cincinnati.
You're the best man.
Speaker 4 (01:25:35):
I look forward to talking again next week. Enjoy the weekend,
and let's bring three more home.
Speaker 49 (01:25:41):
Tony, Tony, Tony, all with a pleasure, my brother, take
care of Austin over there.
Speaker 6 (01:25:45):
Enjoy the draft, and I can't wait to see what happens, and.
Speaker 2 (01:25:47):
Then we'll do it again next and joy and Joyceha
door Sanders.
Speaker 6 (01:25:52):
That's not happening. That's not happening.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Tommy, you're the best man. Thank you, so yeah, thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:26:00):
That is Tom Galtter And that is a great way
to get started with our number three here on Cincy
three to sixty. Thanks to Penn Station. Thank you for
listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
On ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, welcome.
Speaker 4 (01:26:15):
Back, Wow since e three sixty thanks to Penn Station.
Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports station.
Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
Uh Austin. What is the latest with our poll question?
Speaker 5 (01:26:28):
Update today a Revivefitnessystems dot com poll question recapping last
night in the draft, how do you feel about the
Bengals selection of defensive end slash Edge Shamar Stewart. Forty
one percent say they're in different thirty two percent say
they hate it, twenty three percent say they like it,
one point nine percent say they love it. Also just
(01:26:52):
found out that coming up in about an hour from now,
just over an hour from now, Shamar Stewart will join
Mo Edgar right here on ESPN fifteen thirty. The Bengals
first round draft pick expected to talk with Mo just
over an hour from now.
Speaker 6 (01:27:08):
There we go.
Speaker 4 (01:27:09):
That ain't bad here from the man himself on the
Mowaiger Show. Yeah, that of course comes up from three
to six mosat Twin Peaks in Westchester today.
Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
By the way, right, we will, uh take a break.
Speaker 5 (01:27:21):
I just want to take a moment to apologize to
everybody for all the commercials. Yeah, this is just kind
of part of it with the draft not something we control. Yeah,
we don't control it. I know, it's really frustrating to
try to listen to it. It can be annoying. And
maddening sometimes when it's six seven minutes of commercials. So
I just want to apologize for that. We expected to
(01:27:42):
be back to normal on Monday.
Speaker 17 (01:27:44):
There it is.
Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
We'll be back one more segment before we get to
Moegor next five, one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
If there's any calls left out there, we'll try to
get to those before we wrap things up for the
week with Mowegor on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 36 (01:27:58):
Logar, there was some booing in the last night when
it comes to sports.
Speaker 21 (01:28:02):
He's got something to say for.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Just natural byproducts of and plenty of it of poor play.
Speaker 24 (01:28:08):
Loeger Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty Discover Unbeatable.
Speaker 4 (01:28:22):
Hey, welcome back since he three to six the ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to Penn Station. Uh,
we got a few minutes here finally, let's see what
Scott has to say.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Scott, what's going on.
Speaker 20 (01:28:35):
Now?
Speaker 6 (01:28:35):
Much?
Speaker 11 (01:28:35):
Guys, So you're both familiar with Dane Brugler, right, Yeah?
The anamas is number nine.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Prostate.
Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
Yeah, yeah, I said that earlier. It's funny that all
these all these guys that you know a lot of
the media people have they've they've cited Dane Brugler a
lot throughout the process, and this dude was number nine
on his list, and Dan's kind of doubled down on
it over the last couple of days.
Speaker 10 (01:29:02):
Did you see how many.
Speaker 7 (01:29:03):
He got right?
Speaker 35 (01:29:06):
He had?
Speaker 11 (01:29:07):
He had the Giants coming back and picking trading for
twenty three and picking the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:29:16):
Yeah, I mean I think he was spot on with that. Look,
everyone's going to have a different opinion. I obviously hope
that it's more so Dane Brugler's opinion than some of
the other opinions we've heard. But yeah, I mean that's
what makes this process what it is. Is now, nothing's
going to change.
Speaker 2 (01:29:30):
He's here. What happens next?
Speaker 36 (01:29:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:29:32):
The second guessing is it's an art form.
Speaker 13 (01:29:36):
The because.
Speaker 11 (01:29:39):
Yeah, you Tony, you mentioned that Jehad, which I would
have been happy to see him. Campbell would have been
happy to see him picked, but he went after him,
so obviously others in the NFL were concerned about things
that he had. I mean, you you mentioned three or
(01:30:02):
four players that were.
Speaker 6 (01:30:03):
Picked after that.
Speaker 11 (01:30:04):
You would have been happy to see the Bengals choose,
And again they were chosen after.
Speaker 6 (01:30:08):
The Bengals tick.
Speaker 11 (01:30:09):
Sure, so the whole NFL apparently had the same opinion
of them, or so nobody knows anything right now?
Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
Nobody.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
Yeah, I think that's fair. Thank you, Scott. Thanks a
good weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
I'm starting to convince myself that the disruption is worth it.
I know, I mean, just give it time, I know,
I mean, this is what we do right Well, when
you sit here during a seven minute commercial break, I
started to think about a lot all the different ways
that Jamar Stewart can turn into Reggie White, you know,
I mean, does he make the cornerbacks better? Does he
make Dax feel better? If he's creating pressure, if he's
(01:30:50):
forcing a quarterback outside the pocket?
Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
I hope. So that would be fun something to think about. Mike,
what's going on?
Speaker 35 (01:30:59):
Well, good luck Bengals. He continue to do that walling
in the Cincinnati mediocrity. So you go right ahead taking
a chance. Could have had harm Man, you could have
had whatever. Let's look at the really smart, three really
smart organizations in the league, led by the Philadelphia Eagles.
(01:31:21):
Mister Howie Worseman. He goes, yeah, knuckleheads, you want to
let Gee HOAt hang out? Till thirty one. We'll take him,
and now we're not worried about like last year. Oh,
you better not take Jalen Carter, he's got characteristics. Oh
this year, you better not take Tea hot he had
a layer. Well, they seem to pay off for Philadelphia
whenever they've rolled the dice on a so called chances
(01:31:45):
that's number one, number two, the Rams and all their
genius with less sneed. He says, yeah, we'll just get
rid of that first, we'll get rid of that first
round pick. Pick up a first round pick from Atlanta
next year, and Atlanta won't do nothing, so they'll probably
get a top ten, top twelve picks instead of just
having a later pick in the first round, and then
(01:32:05):
they still end up with with eight more picks through seven.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
Yep. It's just like in a draft class next year
that's gonna be much better.
Speaker 35 (01:32:16):
Oh my god. Yeah, that's in their plan and that
that's where they want to get somebody to replace Stafford.
But like I said, so they blow that pick off.
They got one and two, one and three, one and four,
four and six and one and seven, so you know
you want to pile up picks. That's what they did,
and then they set themselves up for last next year,
right sure? And then and then the uh that Jason
(01:32:39):
White down at Tampa he pulls another one. I thought
that all they've been talking about down there was getting
the ed rusher, ed rusher, ed rusher, even though they
have some pretty good frontline defense anyway, But what do
they do. They take Austin' dude, Mike dude, mister ed
Buku from Ohio State in case, in case, Goodwin's not
gonna be the same old tempagancy. These are bright people.
Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
I don't even know.
Speaker 4 (01:33:03):
In case, I think he's the best slot receiver available,
and you're gonna pair him up with with Godwin. You're
gonna pair him up with with Mike Evans. You give
Baker Mayfield another weapon that running games improving.
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
I love what Tampa Bay did.
Speaker 35 (01:33:15):
Plus they got that rookie from last year from Washington, McMillan,
who turned out to be a stud. Yeah, so yeah,
they're they're they just and I look at us, and
I go, well, they are sure. And actually the Browns
made some pretty shrewd moves in a way I thought,
not they're going anywhere anytime. You know, the Brown's amazed
(01:33:36):
me because they're head coach and their GM are pretty
highly respected, smart guys, and they can't get nothing right.
Speaker 2 (01:33:43):
Sure, no, I agree.
Speaker 35 (01:33:46):
I don't know what what's their coach's name? Yeah, the fan,
I know he's a really bright guy, pretty you know,
so I can't figure it. So you guys give him
the Reds any kind of chance to sweep this weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:34:00):
I'm not two out of three. I feel like you
run again. And here we are next Monday talking about
the Reds. Back to five hundred is where I.
Speaker 5 (01:34:07):
See it, and I think they're gonna sweep a Mike,
and I think we're gonna come back here Monday talking
about now the Reds.
Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
Go okay, okay, I love that. I'm not being sarcastic, Mike,
I'm serious.
Speaker 35 (01:34:21):
And then there's go time.
Speaker 5 (01:34:22):
They're gonna they're gonna here's what's gonna happen. They're gonna
sweep the Colorado Rockies, and then they're gonna come back
to Cincinnati and it's gonna be Martinez and uh all
those other guys that can't pitch very well, and they're
gonna get the They're Gonnet bashed by the Saint Louis
Cardinals and the season is gonna be over again.
Speaker 6 (01:34:38):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:34:41):
But if they just get the five hundred by Monday,
that'll be three Mondays in a row.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
I'm serious. That's what I think is gonna happen.
Speaker 49 (01:34:47):
I did.
Speaker 35 (01:34:47):
And the Cardinals, whether they can't win many games or
they still get the second best batting there.
Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
With Miami, yeah they can freaking hit man.
Speaker 14 (01:34:58):
Then they can't pick seven.
Speaker 35 (01:35:02):
Yeah, Okay, guys, Hey, you know what last night show
would have been good, but Austin it was ridiculous on
Tony and.
Speaker 6 (01:35:13):
Mo show.
Speaker 35 (01:35:16):
Commercials. I know, even when they came back on the air,
they were still wanting commercials.
Speaker 2 (01:35:23):
They were commercials.
Speaker 30 (01:35:25):
I know.
Speaker 5 (01:35:25):
It's the the iHeartMedia mentality is that commercials are better
than content.
Speaker 7 (01:35:31):
Boy, it must be.
Speaker 35 (01:35:32):
I kind of get frustrating to you guys a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Thanks guys, you Mike appreciate you all right.
Speaker 5 (01:35:41):
I hate if you haven't figured it out. I hate this,
yeah hard thing. It's it's tough to feel bad for
our list to get anything more than anything else. Will
join us next, Big Garantee, he's at twin Peaks quick
Hits next since he three sixty thanks to Penn Station
on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 16 (01:35:58):
From the Wyoming Air temp Star Weather Center.
Speaker 13 (01:36:00):
Here's your forecame.
Speaker 1 (01:36:01):
Cincy three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
It's time for Cincy three sixty quick hits.
Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
On ESBN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:36:13):
It's time for quick hits, which means it's time to
talk to Mowager, who is at Twin Peaks in Westchester
this afternoon, joining us right now.
Speaker 2 (01:36:21):
Mo, what's up?
Speaker 13 (01:36:22):
Oh man?
Speaker 22 (01:36:23):
You know we're talking football. I'm at Twin Peaks. It's
cloudy out, it's rainy. I feel like you should be here.
It should be fall Tony and Mo football show.
Speaker 2 (01:36:30):
I miss not being Is Tony allowed to come? Like
if he wanted to, he could just do the show.
Speaker 13 (01:36:34):
It's just show up and just sit here and have
a beer and stare at me.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
Yeah, man, get an extra headset. Maybe just do an
impromptu Tony.
Speaker 13 (01:36:41):
And Mo show we can get well, yeah, no problem,
that'd be fine.
Speaker 2 (01:36:44):
Tony should do it. I'll think about it. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
You know it's it's gotta be tough today, Mo, because
everything that happened last night. You look ahead to the
draft tonight and this weekend and also a head coaching
search still taking place with the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Speaker 2 (01:36:58):
How do you divvy that up today?
Speaker 13 (01:37:00):
Well, that's the thing.
Speaker 22 (01:37:01):
I mean, you kind of feel bad for Shamar Stewart
because you know, his selection by the Bengals last night
fades into the background as we're now on I guess
it's officially day three of the Cyclone's coaching search. And
you know, we were, the three of us were at
the Holy Grail last night for our draft show and
during the commercial breaks, which we didn't have a lot
(01:37:22):
of time, they were only you know, maybe ninety seconds
two minutes long, but during the commercial breaks, everybody was
talking to us about like, well, who do you think
it's going to be? You know, I've heard it could
be a Larry Robinson, it might be Scottie Bowman, it
could be Lou Lamarillo.
Speaker 13 (01:37:37):
I'm naming hockey coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:37:38):
I know, as Loun Arumo was coming back from Indy.
Speaker 22 (01:37:41):
And Lou Lamarillo used to be the I think the
coach of the double team. But anyway, yes, you're right
about that. I do think though, especially you Tony, I'm
kind of disappointed because you know, we were on the
air last night as the Bengals were making their pick okay,
and that kind of ended our portion to the show.
And as the Bengals were on the clock, the Knicks
(01:38:03):
were finishing up a playoff game that they won by
two points. And I kept my composure. You did, you
kept your composure?
Speaker 9 (01:38:10):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:38:10):
I don't even know what happened at the end with
the clock and how that was made up. All I
know is the Knicks are up to one in the series,
and they stole home court back, stole.
Speaker 13 (01:38:19):
Home court back.
Speaker 22 (01:38:20):
Karl Anthony Towns decided to show up, and so we
had that going on while the Bengals did what they did.
I got one outcome I was looking for in Detroit.
There's a part of me that hates doing this right, Like,
imagine getting a job, right, you get hired, You're excited,
and like everybody's like, ah, wrong, guy, no chance it's
(01:38:42):
gonna work. Like I don't like doing that. But how
do you not feel a little underwhelmed?
Speaker 4 (01:38:49):
M I think that's fair. Yeah, And it's not just
that we're thinking that. The overwhelming majority of people that
I've heard from are thinking the exact same thing.
Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
How do you navigate that today? What do you got
coming up on the show.
Speaker 22 (01:39:04):
Well, Shamar Stewart is expected to call us right around
three point thirty this afternoon, and we're looking forward to that.
And I think it's going to be fair to say, hey,
look man, people are going to point to a sac
and a half every single year, and you know, what
do you tell teams? What did you tell teams when
they asked about the lack of production. I think that's
a fair question. We'll ask it and see how he does.
(01:39:25):
We're looking forward to having him again. He is going
to meet with the media here. We'll carry that for
you at three o'clock. And then we've been told that
Shamar is gonna call right around three thirty. Understanding that
he's going to be pulled in a thousand different directions.
Billy Lucci knows more about Texas A and M football
than anybody alive.
Speaker 13 (01:39:44):
Billy Lucci.
Speaker 22 (01:39:45):
And so I got a hold of Billy today and
I said, look, man, you have no idea who I am,
but I need you to talk about Shamar Stewart. And
he's like, yep, I'm your guy. So he's going to
join us at four oh five. Our buddy James Orpen
at five oh five per certainly looking forward to that
and a few other things as well, but mainly going
to be talking. Let's make three admissions when it comes
(01:40:06):
to Shamar Stewart and the Bengals drafting him at seventeen. Overall,
we'll make those admissions coming up in the first part
of the show at right around three twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:40:16):
It's also interesting when you add up it's one thing
to look at it from just Thursday alone, when you
wrap up rounds two and three and you look at Okay,
here's the first three picks. This is the hall that
you received that can change the viewpoint of how successful
or unsuccessful. This thing is, how do you view the
needs tonight? If you're the Cincinnati Bengals, what do you
(01:40:36):
want to see Hi accomplished?
Speaker 22 (01:40:38):
I want to draft Tate Ratleige at forty nine. Obviously
if he comes off the board, there's nothing you can
do about that. You you and I were talking last
night on the show Tony about what Dan Horde said
to you, and I agree. Guard is their biggest need.
It was their biggest need going into last night. It's
their biggest need today. And that doesn't mean you can't
take a safety that doesn't mean, you can't take a linebacker.
(01:41:01):
You have to fill those positions. But now, like I understand,
Tyler Booker came off the board, there was no other
first round guard. So you know, we said that on
the air. As soon as he went off at twelve,
we knew they weren't taking a guard. That's fine, he
didn't want to reach that much. But now, the longer
this goes without you taking a guard, I think, the
less of a chance you have of using this draft
(01:41:23):
to help build an elite offensive line. And I know
there are folks who listen to us that get tired
of me saying that. I get tired of saying it.
But the only way you're ever gonna build a top end,
you know, well above league average, upper crust offensive line
is through the draft. The last time the Bengals had
a great offensive line was ten years ago. All those
dudes were drafted by the Bengals, most of them, all
(01:41:47):
of them rounds four and up. To the best of
my recollection, Kevin Zeitler was the first rounder, Andre Smith
was a first rounder, Andrew Whitworth was a second rounder.
I think Bodine was a fourth rounder. But like they
built an elite offense line through the draft. Now, that
doesn't mean you have to have five guys that you
draft on your line. You can supplement with free agency.
But if they're ever going to have one of the
best O lines in the league and be able to
(01:42:09):
put the best quarterback in the league behind the best
offensive line, that's only going to happen through the draft.
And you have less of a chance of doing that
the longer you wait or are forced to wait in
the draft. And so what I want to know tonight
is can they get Ratlede and can he start at
Week one? And does he have a better chance of
playing Week one and helping week one than Shamar Stewart.
Speaker 2 (01:42:29):
Yeah, good question.
Speaker 4 (01:42:31):
Tucked in between all of that, mo is Andrew Abbott
versus Kyle Freeland tonight and what could be very special
if the Reds can at least take two out of
three from the Rockies. We will start our third consecutive
Monday with the Reds at five hundred and really, what
more could you ask for in the month of April?
Speaker 13 (01:42:48):
Are we still hanging banners in the studio?
Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
That would be one.
Speaker 13 (01:42:52):
Do you guys know who John Tortorella is.
Speaker 2 (01:42:54):
Yeah, he used to be the coach of Blue.
Speaker 22 (01:42:56):
Jackets, right, he's coach of the Blue Jackets. He was
coach of the Rangers, he was coach of the Lightning
won a Stanley copy. He was coaching the Flyers and
they just fired him. But he's one of these guys
it's like always yelling at reporters.
Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
Yeah, I think it'd be great.
Speaker 22 (01:43:09):
Well, the only time in my life I've ever been
nervous to have anybody on the show was when we
had John Twitterrello on the show in the middle of
the Blue Jackets seventeen game winning streak. We got him
on and I was legitimately terrified because I'm up, I'm
a very very very casual hockey hand, and I'm like,
this isn't gonna work.
Speaker 13 (01:43:25):
This guy's gonna scream at me on my show. And
he ended up being awesome. Can the Cyclones hire him?
Speaker 6 (01:43:31):
Man? Sure?
Speaker 13 (01:43:32):
Question, swing swing big right? Why not? This dude's want
a cup? Let's go clones hire.
Speaker 2 (01:43:37):
Torts, Torts. You know, Terry Francone has won a World
Series Tito and Torts. That sounds like a podcast.
Speaker 6 (01:43:45):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
Do the Reds need a sweep this weekend?
Speaker 13 (01:43:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:43:50):
You always need sweeps, Yes, two out of three.
Speaker 22 (01:43:54):
Year, okay with you're a Twitter three, You're you're always
okay winning a series.
Speaker 13 (01:43:58):
But like I mean, with the schedule upcoming, you just
lost two out of three to Miami.
Speaker 22 (01:44:04):
So make up the game you lost in Miami and
not winning a series by sweeping this one against Colorado.
Speaker 10 (01:44:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:44:10):
Absolutely.
Speaker 22 (01:44:12):
And the guy they're facing tonight, this guy's a junk baller.
Man shouldn't even be in the big league. Tony Thummer,
thank you. I was wondering if anybody else knew that term.
Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
Yeah, unbelievable opening day, the Jason Vossler opening day. You
dropped that on us. I did, Conny right, Yeah, I'll
never forget that.
Speaker 4 (01:44:29):
Smoke Justice, Honey Thumber, It's fantastic, mo enjoy your show today,
enjoy the draft this weekend. I know you've got some
visitors coming out to the show today. Tell them all
that I said hi, and I'm sorry I can't be there.
I look forward to catching up again Monday.
Speaker 13 (01:44:46):
What do you have going on?
Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
I have a lot going on. It's a school carnival
today that I got to take the kids to him.
Excited about that. This guy, he's just kids for every excuse.
Thanks mo See that is Maleager, Austin Elmore right, say
you don't want to go. I'm Tony Pike. This is
since he three sixty. Thanks to our callers, our listeners, talkbackers, sponsors,
all of our guests that helped make this show possible.
(01:45:09):
Hope you had as much fun this week as we did.
We'll do it again next week. For now, enjoy the
Mowagger Show next and have a great weekend. You're listening
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:45:21):
Imagine being so
