there using the app. We'll get to those an hour.
Number two best talkback talkbacks of the week as voted
on tomorrow, will win a Cinti Shirts gift card. We're
gonna give two away tomorrow, so great opportunity for you
to take home a Cincy Shirts gift card. And if
if you do Sinsy shirts, not just shirts, but tying
(01:05):
into our Hour one sponsor as well. They've got the
Skyline Beach towel out right now. It is the exact
replica of a Skyline Chili Hot Sauce packet. It's pretty
sick in the form of a beach towel, and they're
only twenty four to ninety nine limited supply available. It
is a Hot Sauce Summer Austin at Sincy Shirts. So
(01:26):
thanks to Sincy Shirts, Thanks to Skyline Chilly. Now I
know you have the palette of like a four year old. Yes,
how do you feel about hot sauce? Not a big fan? No?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
No, really, I like the food the way it is.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I don't need to spice it up in any way
that's disappointing. I'm good with where it's at.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
I could eat just the hot sauce packets, like just
cut those bad boys up and just you know what
I'm saying, I would rock this beach towel, Oh, without
a doubt. Just I put hot sauce on everything. There
was a time in my life in which I carried
a little hot sauce thing around. Wow, especially Tabasco. Wow. Hm,
that's impressive. What about that Chipotle Tabasco? You ever use
(02:05):
any of that? If it's hot sauce to Basco sauce, whatever,
it because you can't handle it. Oh, I can handle it. Okay,
you can handle the heat. Yeah, you just don't like
anything with flavor. Correct, That's pretty much what it comes down.
I was thinking about this the other day because you
for some reason, this re entered my brain that you
used to get cheeseburgers at McDonald's if I'm not mistaken,
(02:28):
and a side of salt. Well, I would just dip
them in some sus You would dip cheeseburgers in salt. Yes,
that's what happened to your taste buds flavor. I thought
about that. That's what happened. You destroyed them as they
were developing, and now you don't have any left.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, that might be it.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Thankfully, though you still have a taste for Skyline Chili.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
It's the best. It's the best. I'll tell you what's
not the best. You're sick the current state of the
Cincinnati Reds now. I know that the Reds had a
day game yesterday and we covered a lot, but you know,
just as we were going off air, which we didn't
get a chance to watch what Wade Miley was going
to do in the ninth inning. So I'm gonna talk
about Wade Miley today seemingly is a much better option
(03:11):
than Chase Petty or Chase Burns. At this point, this
team continues to play three catchers, which is just incredible,
and I'm sorry they don't play three catchers. They have
three catchers on the roster, and Terry Francona spoke after
yesterday's game and uh shared that they just doesn't have
the answer still, and I'm wondering at what point do
(03:35):
we start to get any answers as it relates to
the Cincinnati Reds.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Did you see you know how Moe posts those like
preview tweets, Yes, like to tell people to go listen
to the game. Did you see the one from a
couple of nights ago where he said tonight Austin wins,
teammates take on good Chicaco. It's good, oh Man, shout
out to Nick Crawl.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Man.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I don't know that there's anybody intact worse at their
job than Nick Crawl. But we're looking for help today.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Incredible, We're looking to help for help from the listener
because we are trying to find something to blame the
Red struggles on. There are multiple curses in sports and
in the history of sports. So we want to know
what's the curse on the Cincinnati Reds because something extraordinary
(04:30):
has to be a work here, right. There is the
curse of the Billy Goat, the curse of the Bambino,
there is the Madden curse. True, there are curses all
over the sports world. What is the curse in Cincinnati
(04:51):
that this Reds team just cannot get over the hump?
That's what I want to know. There are curse stadiums.
I don't I think GAVP is a curse stadium? How
many it's a curse if you win the Master's par
three contest?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Wait? Really, yeah, I haven't heard. I didn't know about
that one. Yep. Interesting, but yeah, I mean historically throughout baseball.
What I think is interesting about the curses is that
they all start with b think of Bill Buckner, Yes,
what about the Billy Goat, the Bambino, Bartman Art? The
(05:30):
Cubs are black Cat as well. Is there anything that
starts with a bee that we can blame the Red's
ongoing failures on? Is there a curse that we can
because my first thought was, you know, Pete Rose, he
tarnished the game, He tarnished the organization. In my mind,
he tarnished the city, he lied about it. I'm not
(05:51):
a Pete Rose guy. We all know that the curse
of Pete Rose. Perhaps what about Marge Shott, who off
the field, certainly was no model citizen saint. What about
the curse of Shatzi who roamed the ballpark? Somebody pointed
(06:11):
out to me last night that the Reds have done
nothing since Great American Ballpark was built? Should they have
never imploded Riverfront Stadium?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
There are a lot of folks out there that would
say the white helmets are a curse to the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, so may need help.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Today.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
We're going to talk a lot about curses. Maybe give
us your Mount Rushmore of Cincinnati sports curses it that's possible,
leave a talkback iHeartRadio app or come up with something
to blame the Red struggles. Yeah, I mean, this is
your opportunity to get into the ground level. Yeah, to
create a curse. That's what we're going to do today.
And more than anything, it gives us something to lean on, man,
(06:52):
like you know another bee for example, the Bengals was
Bo Jackson? Right, the curse of Bo Jackson. That's what
a lot of people believed his hip. They ended his career,
they had won a playoff game since and who did
they beat to break the curse? Those same Raiders?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Raiders. Dude, A lot going on here. So we're going
to talk curses today.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
We're going to try to, maybe at some point between
now and the end of the season, speak to the afterlife,
speak to those beyond.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
That's what talkbacks are for. Maybe channel some sort of something.
What talkbacks are for. Did you come up with a
pole question yet?
Speaker 5 (07:25):
No?
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I will? All right, I can do that, and you're
supposed to. I delegated you that duty today because I'm
in here training our America's youth. Yeah, our new guy,
Joe Waddell. Should I say that right? Joe? All right?
Joe Addell here in the building day. Yeah, Joe's in
the building. So I said, tone, I need you to,
you know, come up with something. I thought you were
worried about getting lunch before the show. By the way,
(07:50):
the final results of yesterday's Revive Fitnessystems dot com pole
question was the question was will today be the day
the Reds win a series against Milwaukee Brewers and last
twelve tries? The winner of that poll question was the option.
Is it football yet? Yeah, at thirty seven percent, thirty
four percent say the Reds we get shut out, they
nearly did, and just twenty eight said we are back.
(08:12):
So we'll see if Tony can come up with a
poll question of people between now struggling.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Today on the show, we'll talk to Uh Chase Collins
from Red Brick Legacy. We've had the Red Brick guys
on before. We're gonna catch up on the World of Nil.
Bob Manjan from Novacare will join us. Uh. We'll talk
a little bit about Hunter Green that's coming up an
hour number three. Uh your talkbacks phone calls five, one, three, seven,
fifteen thirty, and so much more. Texas Women's College World
(08:40):
Series Texas takes Game one against Texas Tech last night.
I'm hearing Austin we're gonna get a competitive game between
team represent representations from US and the world for the
All Star Game. What we got USA versus the World?
What are you talking about? The All Star Game? What
All Star Game?
Speaker 3 (08:57):
NBA?
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Oh, we're gonna do USA versus the World?
Speaker 3 (09:00):
So what Adam Silver that they're going to do something
because the NBA is going to be back on NBC.
Next year, Smart, the All Star Game is going to
be back on NBC and it's going to be in
the middle of the Olympics. So he said, the coverage
prior to the All Star Game will be Olympic Sports,
the coverage after the All Star Game will be Olympic
(09:21):
Sports because it's all on NBC. So they thought, what
better time, much like the NHL that did this year
with the four Nations face off, to make it a
some sort of World Slash League challenge. I love it,
and he said he doesn't know the specifics yet. I'm
not sure exactly what it's going to look like, but
(09:42):
I think that's kind of cool. I think that's a
good idea.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Speaking of the NBA Finals get underway tonight thunder Pacers,
Pacers are a big betting underdog, Austin pointed out though
Tyrese Haliburton point total tonight seventeen and a half.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Last I saw it was only seventeen and a half
for haliburt I think that speaks to the defense of
the Oklahoma Moos center. Who's gonna be on Halliburn? Is
it Caruso Cruso gonna lock him up? Is gonna be
the Dorcher Chamber. I think they're just gonna throw a
bunch of dudes, dort.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
They're gonna give someone different every single possession, okay, every
time out of a time out. It's gonna be somebody new.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Fair enough.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Last night, Game one of Lord Stanley's Cup did not
disappoint from a hockey standpoint. The Edmonton Oilers came from
behind one in ot we mentioned yesterday hungry dog. They
were the hungry dog. They faced a two to one
deficit last night, a three one deficit. They came back
to tie it. They won it in overtime. That is
(10:38):
about as good of a start to a Stanley Cup
Finals as you can get. Yeah, awesome, awesome stuff. NFL news,
Uh the uh. The Baltimore Ravens are giving Rashad Bateman, okay,
a thirty six point seventy five million dollar three year deal.
No kidding, Rashad Bateman, do without what you want. Meanwhile,
(11:03):
not far down the road, you see this about Terry McLaurin.
Oh scary Terry is not happy with the talks between
him and the Commanders about a contract extension. So there
are players elsewhere other than Cincinnati that could be unhappy
with the contract situation.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Imagine that, you know, a lot of people seem to
think this is just a Bengals thing, But according to
Jordan Schultz, McLaurin has made it clear to the team
he's frustrated with the lack of progress on a long
term deal, and he unexpectedly left voluntary workouts after initially attending.
It remains to be seen whether or not he will
report for mandatory mini camp. So there is drama beyond
(11:46):
just that in Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
We also have drama going on in the WNBA. Oh boy,
I had to I had to clarify, and you brought
this up. This is an actual, real thing that's happening.
I double checked this. Okay, this was sent to me
this morning. I could not believe it. But this is
a tweet from the real Yahoo Sports account five and
(12:09):
seventy two thousand followers a gold check mark on Twitter. Okay,
are you ready for this?
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Please? This is how the tweet reads breaking. There is
currently an investigation being launched into the Seattle Storm coaching
staff by the w NBA and league security. According to
Christina Williams, who is a reporter in one of our
colleagues at iHeartRadio, Okay, the league is review The league
(12:40):
is reviewing a complaint from a former Seattle Storm player
who alleges an assistant coach directed profanity at them. Custodder Man,
and this is real, that's real, man, This coming after
the the kind of hole, the way they screwed up
(13:02):
the Angel Reese thing with the claims of racism and
all this other stuff.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Like, I just don't understand it.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
The only thing that comes to mind when I see
that is deeply unseerious.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Yeah, for an organization that has so many good things
going for it.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
What would you like if I'm the WNBA and I
get this complaint, I would tell them too bad? Right,
people get cut that all the time. It's sports. I
don't get it. Yeah, I don't. How many times did
Brian Kelly cuss.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
You out each minute?
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Probably?
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yeah, quite frequently, minute by minute at least. That is fascinating. Yeah, again,
all the getting all the run right now, WNBA is
is on fire and that's what you go with.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yep, that is absolutely insane.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Again, we're looking for curses to blame the red struggles on.
That's what we're looking for you today to give us.
You could leave that via talkback. You could call us
five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty. Reds are
off today and then welcome in the Arizona Diamondbacks. Wouldn't
want to be a Diamondback coming into Cincinnati to face
this team.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Right now, I'm just glad they're off today. There's a
sense of calm I'm excited of, Like I get to
go home tonight and you know, I might go to
the driving range and watch the NBA Finals, you know,
do a little bit laundry. I don't have to suffer
through nine innings of nonsense.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
There's a sense of calm, yeah, that you can take
with today and ton If you don't.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Mind, i'd I'd like to do a little self promotion
here please. I wrote an article this morning for Sports
Illustrated and Red's Talk SI. I put it up on
my Twitter at Audiellmore about the fact that sixty three
games into the twenty twenty four season last year, with
my guy David Bell, the Reds were thirty and thirty three.
(15:01):
Sixty three games into this season with my guy Terry Francona,
the Reds are thirty and thirty three. Oh, I think
the roster is better this year, do you agree? I
think so, and yet and health and another year older,
and yet the results are the same. Terry Francona keeps
(15:23):
saying he doesn't have the answers. Go check that out,
and that will be certainly a part of our conversation
on the show today as well.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah, like I said, we'll listen to Terry Francona after
yesterday's loss. Uh, we're gonna talk about the decision that
this team continues to roll out three catchers on the roster,
and there's a way Miley conversation to be had. We'll
get to all of that mostly here nour number one,
but when we come back, we'll open up the phone
lines to you to start things off. Five one, three, seven,
(15:51):
four nine, fifteen thirty at Cincy three sixty. You are
listening on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to Skyline.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Chilly, Hey, what's going on in the NFL?
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Getting ESPN is fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio. With the summer
heat rolling in, you also get summer storms rolling in
and that's going to cause major stress for your roof
and your siding. That along with hal high winds, spring
debris that may already have caused damage that you can't
see from the ground. Now is a better time than
(16:23):
ever to reach out to my friends at Chi Roofing.
They are offering right now the double play deal. You
can book book a new roof and siding together and
take fifteen percent off the total. One call, two upgrades,
major savings. Rob Montanas and his team are second to nine,
(16:44):
locally owned and operated for over twenty years. They are trusted,
they are reputable. You're not going to pay a dime
until the job gets done. Find out more today by
visiting seven three to one roof dot com or call
seven three one roof schedule your free estimate today.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Chi Roofing. They nail it every single time. Out here.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
One Rutchman sends one out to that direction.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
High back out towards Ryfield, back in the wall. Dylan
Moore want to fly.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Hadley Rutchman in front of the whole family in.
Speaker 7 (17:25):
The ballpark he grew up in.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Ties it up on a swing, his sixth home.
Speaker 7 (17:31):
Run of the year. He shakes hands with Buck Briton,
stomps on home plate and we've got a new ballgame.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Here come the Baltimore Orioles.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Watch out winners of five games in a row, eight
of their last ten. That is our call of the night,
Addley Rushman getting it done in Seattle Ballpark. He grew
up in, as you mentioned, that was the Baltimore Orioles
Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
And the O's are back. Welcome back. It is since
he three to sixty thanks to Skyline Chile. But if
you remember when the A's were halfway decent, Yeah, yeah,
the fun little stretch like one for their one in
their last eighteen or something.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
They're down to twenty three and forty. That has fallen
apart rather quickly. Before we get a couple of calls here.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Have you seen this?
Speaker 2 (18:21):
I'm always fascinated by these gambling folks. There is a player,
There is a man out there who has a five
pick parlay going.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Have you seen this?
Speaker 2 (18:32):
I have not. He had the Dodgers to win the
World Series. Okay, he had the New York Liberty to
win the WNBA Championship. They did that, the Philadelphia Eagles
to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
All those things have happened.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
And he now has the Edmonton Oilers and the Oklahoma
City Thunder left.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
It's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
So he made a thirteen dollars wager to pay two
hundred and seventy thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
He has obviously hit three of the five and right
now his cash out is at one hundred and twenty
three thousand. Thunder are big favorites, but there are folks
that kind of view the Eilers series as a toss up. Sure,
are you cashing out at one hundred and twenty three
(19:19):
or are you letting it ride? There's a video of him,
they're like documenting this journey and they're watching the game
at a bar last night and he's just sitting on
the step of the bar before overtime burning a heater.
You could tell that it's yeah, it's just stressing the
guy out. Are you cashing out or are you letting
it ride? With you essentially have home court in the
(19:40):
NBA Finals and you have a one zero lead in
the Stanley Cup Finals.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
I would cash out without without a doubt. I get
to press a button and get one hundred and twenty
thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah, And there was a point where he was like,
I'm not cashing out unless it's over one hundred and
last night it was at like ninety five and that
Edmi to Edmonton one and it went to a one
to twenty three.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
So if Oklahoma City wins tonight probably goes up. It's
probably one fifty.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
How do you hold off for tonight?
Speaker 4 (20:08):
No?
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, how do you not take that?
Speaker 4 (20:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:10):
There's too many variables that can happen, right, And maybe
you wait two games into each series. Yeah, maybe, But
I mean I don't know how. You don't what a
spot that was?
Speaker 2 (20:20):
You get a press a button, yep, and make one
hundred and twenty thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
I would do that right now. Yep. By the way,
I did put my headge in oh for the Pacers.
If you're just now getting here or just now understanding
last June, when my Chicago Bulls traded Alex Caruso to
the Oklahoma City Thunder that night, I put a bet
on the Thunder to win the NBA Ternals. And now
(20:46):
I've hedged my bet with the heavily underdog Indiana Pacers,
and so watching the NBA Finals is free money to me. Basically, Yep,
I'm excited. You get to enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, let's let's take a couple of phone calls.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Her Mike is calling in from Hamilton. Hi, Mike, Hey,
how you doing good?
Speaker 2 (21:04):
How are you? Oh?
Speaker 8 (21:05):
Not too bad?
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (21:06):
On that thirteen dollars bet, you're letting it ride game
by game. I'll only bet thirteen dollars. After a game
or two, you can cash it out. Still, I mean
i'd take it out, how about you?
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:16):
I would probably let the Thunder hopefully win tonight and
then if it's if it's up past one fifty, I
would probably take it.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (21:24):
Absolutely at that point. I mean, you only bet thirteen dollars, right,
But in light of in light of the WNBA complaint,
I'd like to logic complain against my parents and every
coach I've ever.
Speaker 9 (21:34):
Had in my life.
Speaker 8 (21:36):
A little league one up. Yep, we staw like a
class action lawsuit.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
I like this. I like this. Mike puts your parents
on notice right now?
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (21:44):
Absolutely? I mean but no, as far as the mount Rushmore,
here we go. All right, that's I got four of
them for you. They all start with a bat Audie
told me and bees right, So, Dusty.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Baker, Oh like it?
Speaker 8 (21:56):
David Bell Yeah, I mean who didn't Who I mean,
who didn't love criticizing that guy?
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (22:02):
I loved all the time, so somebody would have to
explain to me how much better off they are this
year versus David Bill.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
That's all different.
Speaker 8 (22:12):
So listen, Tony, I think I'm a little older than you.
We probably grew up in the same neighborhood. I'm from Lachlan,
you're from Reading, right, yes, sir, all right, So I
think it might be a little older than you. But
do you remember I don't know if you ever remember
the coverage that the guy that used to walk around
with Mars shot that had to scoop up the poop
from SHATSI. They had like a whole new story about
that guy shots. He is a Saint Bernard.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Oh that's good.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
Now Now now the last, the last one and to me,
the most important one. Bad ownership. So to get into that,
to get into that a little bit, right, the Lindner
family used to own the Reds and they own and
I'm not a soccer guy, but they owned f C Cincinnati,
know right, yes, but they owned one hundred percent of
(22:56):
f C Cincinnati, right.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
I don't know if it's a one hundred percent, but
I leave the majority.
Speaker 8 (23:00):
So so as we get away from Lendner and in
the Castellini, I kind of start to wonder how bad
the majority or the minority parts of the ownership really is,
because as you get away from March Shot, now you've
gotten into a couple other different owners and the team
has just kind of been held back by a lack
of spending. Now does that come from Castelini or is
(23:21):
that coming from the other parts? Now we get to
see Lender and.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
How bad they did.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Now he actually owns a majority of a different franchise
that's doing really well.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
So I and I just you just kind of wonder, like,
how how much influence and how much power do the
minority groups that own the Reds really have?
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (23:42):
I mean that that that to me is a fair
question and a criticism as well.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (23:47):
Well, and my last my last point for the day
would be is, how would you like to be Terry Francona.
You sit down to your office looking at heat or
I don't know what he does in between games, and
you got and you and you got to sit down
with the lineup card. Right, you look down the bench
and you got three catchers sitting there and Garrett Hampton,
I mean, what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (24:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
I mean that's a big part of it. There's there's
not a lot of options for Terry frank Kena And.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I heard Austin.
Speaker 8 (24:12):
I heard Austin say earlier that he thought the roster
was better this year.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Are you sure? Well?
Speaker 3 (24:17):
The reason I say that is because I do think,
as much as I love to dump on Nick Krawl,
and I think Nick Krawl, you know, is terrible, I
do think the roster additions of Lux and Travino and
Hayes and even a couple of the bull pit Yeah,
Hayes went healthy, a couple of the bullpen guys. I
was like, okay, this, on paper is a better roster,
(24:40):
and those guys have been pretty solid this year.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
The issue is all the other young players that were
supposed to be developed aren't developing well.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
And I like the Travino pickup, but now he's starting
to lose playing time to a hot bat in Stevenson.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Yeah yeah, And even yesterday a Travino had three of
their four hits. Yeah he was great.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
Yeah yeah, And you got to find a way to
play both of them. But at this point, I mean,
to me, Stevenson looks better behind the plate, and when
he's at the plate.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
I don't think he does as well as a DH
and I know that's just not a role for everybody. Yeah,
but lux I honestly, at this point I would put
luck at second and you got to do something with McLean.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
I agree with you, Mike.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Yeah, Mike, appreciate the phone call back.
Speaker 8 (25:17):
That's my mount Rushmore. Got some bees, man. I you
know that didn't take one to come up with. We
could come up with the ballpark. I mean, you know
we could keep doing.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
This all day.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
I love it. I love it, Mike, thank you. There
you go.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
So Mike went bang Dusty, David, Saint Bernard's and an ownership.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, found a way to make that work.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
To make a point, you mentioned the roster comparison. I'm
not saying that this year is like leaps and bounds better, No,
but the pitching staff is better this year. Core catchers
are essentially you. You added Travino from Maley. That's better. Yeah,
you move on from Jonathan India who's been terrible. And
I'm not saying that that they're the best. But last
(25:58):
year you had Mike Ford typh Rance.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
I think that's the big one. Right there is the
India part because India has been I think statistically the
worst defensive player in baseball. Now, Matt McClain has been
maybe average, So in that case you have an advantage.
But he's not hitting as well as Matt McLean's not
(26:21):
hitting as well as Jonathan India, right, So it's like,
I mean, I'll feel I'll feel the toss up as well.
That trade up trade off in and of itself has
been a failure.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Yeah, you probably welcome Stuart Fairchild back right now. No,
Nick Martin, no, no, no, no, no, no, Nick Martinez, no no,
we're not doing that. I'm just like that. It's not
like it's great choices either way. It's it's but I
do think that I would give the edge to this
year's current roster over last year. Not by a wide margin,
(26:54):
I agree, But but but if.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
You rewind to everything, rewind back to last year, it
was roster slightly better, manager better yep, that better ball club,
right right, Okay, that equals the same. Here we are
thirty and thirty three. What's up?
Speaker 10 (27:12):
Mark?
Speaker 11 (27:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Going, I ain't looking for no flowers of the day
first time for everything? Oh yeah, yeah, no, I ain't
looking at some flowers you want, did some flowers you
don't want? You know? So okay, let me. I just
had to get that out of the wait first. But
I just got one person I point the finger at
and I hate to say his name because he passed away,
(27:40):
but you know, I got to call it what it is.
I mean, Walt Jockey, Dan O'Brien and Wayne Krisky developed
the farm system and built that team back up to
that level when when they went to the playoffs, the
Dusty that that year, that brew shit, that walk off
(28:01):
home run I think was that two thousand oh okay, okay,
from that point on, from that point on, Walt Jockey
depleted the farm system for Matt Lados and then send
shoot too okay, and they didn't They didn't make it
(28:22):
to the World Series, they didn't win, and when they
had from that point on, when they had to strip
that team down and rebuild it. From that point on,
it looks like to me they never recovered from that.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
No, I mean I know that, Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
That's my that's my that's my uh. I would put
him on that list. That to me, that's where the
screw up was right there, because had they continue on
the path they were going with the farm system and just.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Going that, I would I would push back on that
mark though, and say I'm okay with that because I
think Jockety was being aggressive and trying to win. I mean,
they had a team and from ten to thirteen that
was really good and they had a chance. And in
twenty twelve, I think a lot of people think they
could have won the World Series and I do too, sure,
and they went all in to try to make that
(29:17):
happen in those years. And part of that is afterwards,
when you go all in, you kind of have to
suffer through a rebuild. But I can at least be
okay with the idea that Walt Jocketty was doing everything
he could to try to turn that team into a winn.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Which is all we're asking for now, exhausting every resource
to become a winner.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Yeah, but and doing so, I think, but yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Maybe on the back end, on the back end, it
may have depleted them.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
There was also twelve years ago. It shouldn't take a
team twelve years to rebuild a farm system, right, correct.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Well, That's why I'm more focused on front offices now.
You know, I used to complain about managers and coaches.
I'm complaining about front office. I brought this point up before.
You know, the Houston organization and the Chicago Cubs organization.
Whoever is the up and coming guy trying to be
(30:12):
a general manager and one of those organizations that saw
the rebuild and the strip downs of those organizations, go
get that guy and bring him in and try to
mimic it. That was my take, not I mean, Nick
Crawl then came up under the red system. But it's
like five people trying to build a house, but they're
(30:35):
trying to build it from scratch, but nobody has the
experience of doing it. So that to me, that's my problem.
So I'll get off the lists of the rest of
the show.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Appreciate it, money, thank you. You know, it's interesting, you know,
Jockety was fired from the Cardinals on what the team
owner back then had called divisiveness in the baseball operations
front office, meaning that obviously what Walt Jockety had wanted
to do was not meshing well. And when you look
up baseball operations, you're talking about player acquisition development strategy.
(31:09):
So I mean, maybe there's something to Mark's point there,
but I agree with you that what You can't fault
Walt Jockety for was trying to win now, right, whatever
it took. He wanted to win a championship, and they
were close, and they had a chance to do it,
and things obviously fell apart, and we've documented that more
(31:32):
than one occasion. But at least at least he made
the moves and tried to get it done right, which
is what we're asking for right now.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
That's what I talk about all the time. I want teams,
executive executives, managers, everybody to be in aggressive pursuit of
a championship, and I will never fault Walt Jockety for
doing that. The other part is, you know, the people
that were below him at the time were people like
(32:03):
Nick Krawl who are in charge of also fixing the
farm system and supplementing those players that go out. It
should never take twelve plus years to rebuild a farm system, right,
So that actually brings me to our Revivefitnessystems dot com
pole question. Oh, I've come up with one. Okay, would
you rather have a Hall of Fame executive or a
(32:25):
Hall of Fame manager? I would give you know, Lord
knows how much money the Reds gave Terry Francone, it
was a lot. Would you rather that money spend I
know this is a this is a hypothetical. Would you
rather that money spent on theo Epstein or Terry Francine Theoepstein, right,
I mean, both of those dudes work together to turn
(32:47):
you know, okay, hot take alert.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
But do you know what Theoepstein would have came in
and done. Made a lot of people uncomfortable. That's good,
it's good, it's good, but for them, probably not what
they wanted hot take alert.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Theo Epstein made Terry francona question Mark question Mark sentweek.
I mean, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Did you watch the uh we discussed the other day
that the players that Terry Francona has had the opportunity coach, Yeah,
that we're put in front of him.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Some of those were theo Epstein guys. Some of them,
not a good chunk of them were. But you know,
it's it's tough. And in Mark's point too, that was
Walt Jocketty who came over from the Cardinals an external hire. Yep,
they haven't had that since. I mean, hell, even Dick
Williams was an internal guy. Because the Williams family is
(33:38):
the second largest ownership group of the Reds behind the Casilinis,
and have been this entire time. So like Krawl was
a promotion from within, Brad Metter a promotion from within
at some point, to your point, you gotta make people uncomfortable, correct,
You gotta shift some stuff around. I don't know how.
(34:01):
I don't know Bob Cassilini, I don't know Phil, I
don't know any of them. I don't know how you
sleep at night after this season if it fails again,
I don't know how. You don't do something to change.
But it's comfortable. Francona, you would think is something that
you know makes people a little bit uncomfortable. It should
(34:21):
be making Nick Crawl uncomfortable. Yeah, I just don't know
if that's how they see it. Let's uh, let's do this.
We'll get to more phone calls. Let's do let's get
to Terry Francona audio after yesterday's lost because it it
again sounds like a coach that just doesn't have any
inkling of answers to what's troubling this ball club. Yesterday
obviously the latest struggles against another lefty. Uh, and more,
(34:43):
we'll hear from Terry Francona, and then we'll get more
phone calls as we go. Five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty at Cincy three sixty thanks to Skyline Chilli,
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Welcome back since he three to sixty thanks to Skyline
in Chile. We will get back to your phone calls
in just a few moments before we get to that.
The latest in another disappointing series against the Milwaukee Brewers
came to an end yesterday Austin. It was the thirty
ninth straight series in which the Reds loss came one
that they failed to win the series. It's also another
(35:21):
series loss against Milwaukee, who had not beaten a series
since twenty twenty two. Here is what Terry Francona had
to say after yesterday's loss.
Speaker 12 (35:33):
A couple of mistakes. You know, I just was mentioned
in DJ earlier too. He's pitching with so much confidence
and I think he still will. He just made two
mistakes and it was four runs. He's still like when
you watch him, he's in command of what he's doing
and he's throwing his change up and just think you're
(35:55):
not going to be perfect.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
He was so hard to come by today.
Speaker 12 (36:00):
Well, you know, the first guy, you know, they can
call it a open whatever it is, but he's a
three the kind of been three innings and he's actually
got really good stuff and whether they're lengthening out or not,
then they bring in priests there and he thinks it
so well and then he can just crisscross with a break.
The wall just kind of just gave us a tough time.
(36:21):
I mean, other you know, Jose really swung the bat.
Other than that, we didn't have a lot of hard hits.
We had a thought we had a nice opportunity early
with sp Up with their lefty En that's probably a
guy we like to hit when there's a lefty on
the mound, and he hit that kind of that soft
one hundred and second, you guys have been one of
(36:45):
the best kinds of teams.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
I guess starters have been the leadershire on the worst
and based all.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Is there anything like when you see that kind of
split that you did you kind of like, I mean,
we kind of talk about stuff like that.
Speaker 12 (36:59):
I if I had an answer, we wouldn't be like that.
It's not like everybody just you know, shuts a dye.
I'd like to figure that out better. I don't have
an answer for you.
Speaker 13 (37:13):
You imagine just how important did that third any feel?
Speaker 4 (37:17):
Well?
Speaker 12 (37:17):
Again, you don't know till the game's over, Like I
never after somebody we don't score, I'm like, oh, let's
not play, and nobody feels like that. Just when you
look back on it after the game's over, it's like, well,
that was probably our chance to get something rolling and
we didn't.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Were your thoughts on way getting in there?
Speaker 12 (37:35):
I thought it was really hopefully beneficial for him starting
on Monday, and we're trying to figure out how to
get him there and to not pitch would have been
really difficult, you know.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
So he was.
Speaker 12 (37:49):
You know, he's still shaking off for us and we
know that, but but hopefully that will help him give
us a good start on Monday.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
All right, So two things.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
One, if you're sixty three games into a season, if
you're the manager, your job is to have answers. Yep, not,
we're looking for them, can't find them. You have to eventually.
If you're not finding answers as a manager, what is
your role right other than throwing a lineup out? Your
(38:24):
job is to do whatever it takes to help the
team in any type of competitive advantage and to just say, well,
we just don't have the answer.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
What are we doing here? It's been his favorite line
so far this season, and quite frankly, it's not good
enough for me. And my biggest issue with it is,
you have a ton of tools that help you find answers.
You have scouts, you have advanced scouts, you have data,
you have analytics, you have technology, you have scouting reports,
you have video, you have the iPads in the dugout.
(38:56):
Now there is more information available to you than any
point in the history of professional baseball.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Yep, how do you not have answers? And especially through
sixty three games? And the other part of that that
I didn't like. That was the first time I heard
the question that Charlie asked him. You know how when
you go to a baseball game and there's a big
moment in the game, yep, runners on, you can feel
two outs, one out, you can feel all right, this
(39:23):
is gonna This could have an impact on the rest
of the game. This could be the biggest chance they
have to score, him saying that the answer it's either
not a true answer, he's got no feel of.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
It, exactly. That answer to me was a reflection of
having no feel.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
For the game, and that that's the most worst that I.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Do not like. Yep, for a guy here, he's he's
completely lying, and you would think he's not lying because
there are times like you know, Connor Joe the other night,
I thought that was a good move. Brought in a
right hander to face a left hander. Connor's done a
pretty good job of hitting the ball to the other side.
That was like a move where, okay, feel this is
a big moment. But obviously it was a big moment.
Was a tie game? Late?
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (40:07):
What about early?
Speaker 14 (40:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (40:09):
And he alluded to that at point and said, look,
we had a bases loaded early, we had a lefty,
we had Santiago Espa all up, that's what we like,
and you didn't get anything. So again I listened to
it the same way. Either you don't have a feel
or you're lying. Neither is okay. And the last part is,
are we really at this point with what you saw yesterday?
(40:35):
Are you gonna trot Wade Mainley out there to start
a baseball game? Man in Cleveland?
Speaker 3 (40:41):
That's not good man? Are we joke about it?
Speaker 2 (40:47):
But that way Miley yesterday look completely disinterested. His fastball
was eighty nine, his change up was eighty six. I mean,
this guy's throwing a no hitter, zero velocity change. He
fooled nobody yesterday.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
He didn't fool anybody in the minor leagues. Six his
rehab starts four runs, just got beat up. Was not
fooling anyone, has not fooled anyone. And the response is, well,
the goals to get him out there Monday, so we
had to throw them in and that would have been
hard if not. Can you can you watch that yesterday
(41:30):
and as a manager of a team that is desperate
for wins, can you start that player on Monday? It's
almost as bad as having a third catcher that never plays.
It is, And you know, maybe this is more reflective
of how they feel about Chase Petty because they brought
(41:51):
him up, he got his face bashed in, clearly wasn't ready,
and because they have nobody else able to pitch, they
had to bring him back up. Even ten days later
he gots face bashed in again. And so now they're like,
all right, we're not gonna do this to Chase Petty anymore.
We'll throw out a forty year old dude. Let him
get his face bashed in.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
But if you're throwing Wade Miley on Monday, you're not
serious about winning the game.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
No, not at all. It's a deeply unserious organization. You
mean to tell me Nick Kral can't do better than that?
And again, if it wasn't Wade Miley, guess who would be?
Carson Spires? And it's not like like you said, is
heard or else, he'd be the guy we feel great
about him.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
No, had Wade Miley been playing really well, pitching really
well and triple A, you'd be like, okay, bad start,
this is who he's been. And again, I'm sorry, but
you also got a guy who leads all minor league
pitchers with kay to walk ratio in Chase Burns, who
you've already said, Yeah, it's not gonna be Chase Burns
(42:49):
this year.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
I think the petty thing is why they aren't gonna
mess with Burns. Scared to death of it. Yep, I
think that's exactly why they won't let Burns come.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Which then you're essentially just planning this season.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
In a way, yes, in a way, because you failed
to supplement your organizational depth beyond double A and barely
even in the big But if you're just, if you're
Graham Ashcraft comes back to the rotation.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
But if you're looking at this from the outside, Nick
Krawl said that Chase Burns has too much stuff to
still work on, and yet Wade Miley was trotted out
there yesterday and is going to trot out there on Monday.
Like the fact of just saying that and seeing those
(43:39):
two things is insane to me. It's insane. That was
that That almost felt like a position player pitching the
end of a game yesterday. The way Wade Miley was
throwing the ball over the plate, That's what it felt like.
(44:01):
And yet here's a one year deal for Wade Miley.
It's a manager that has no quite no answers, and
it's a GM who for some reason, still is carrying
three catchers on this active roster. We'll dive into that
and your phone calls, we'll do a touch and go.
(44:21):
We'll finish up our number one. Uh, we'll get to
Mark Mark's call and anyone else five one, three, seven, four, nine,

Dude. It's one of the cooler things they've done. One
of the better designs that they've done. Yeah, Like, I
think that's sick, which is hard to say. Makes me
want to go to a beach because they do so
many right good designs and this is right up there
with the best. I was thinking about one of their
shirts this weekend actually that I need to go get
(47:45):
the one that says, if you rebuild it they will come. Yeah, yeah,
which you can wear that every year to the ballpark
really for most of my life.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
Man, that's just a tough to build a swallow. We've
got a couple of phone calls to grab and then
a little bit more on the Cincinnati Reads.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
Here Mark is calling in. What's up, Mark?
Speaker 11 (48:10):
How do you guys doing today?
Speaker 4 (48:11):
Good?
Speaker 3 (48:11):
How are you going?
Speaker 4 (48:13):
Well? Thanks? Hey.
Speaker 11 (48:15):
You know, there's a lot of a lot.
Speaker 14 (48:17):
Of blame blame to go around for this team not performing,
and you guys have named most of the things that
have kept them from performing, whether it be the manager,
whether it be the front office or the owner or whatever.
Speaker 11 (48:31):
But they much mention this, What about the assistant coaches
because those guys are given given the manager information and
they're working with the players more closer than the manager is.
Speaker 14 (48:45):
So if they're giving them the wrong information, or they
don't know what they're giving them, or they just don't
relate to the player as well, they're gonna have a problem.
So I think that's one of the other problems that
they have, that new management, that new assistant coaches, not
all of them, but some of them. How do we
know they're going well?
Speaker 3 (49:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (49:03):
And I think It's always interesting too, because every time
you get a new manager, you're going to have guys
that you want to keep around and you want to
bring in new guys as well.
Speaker 3 (49:13):
But and keep in mind there were three holdovers from
last year's staff, Freddy Binaviti's, Colin Cowgill and Jr.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
House. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's unique and Mark, I don't
think anyone is is safe from blame, right. Players need
to play up to their abilities better, They need to
make better decisions in the game. You could say that
Terry Francona needs to be better. We've certainly said Nick
Krawl needs to be better. And you know, to a point,
(49:40):
you could go to the assistant coaches. You could go
to the third base coach, you can go to the
hitting coach. There are a lot of avenues that you
can divvy up blame for the Cincinnati Reds. But in
this world of sports, the manager, the head coach is
going to be responsible for what happens with the rest
(50:01):
of the team. And you know, if if you're Terry
Francona and you feel things slipping away, then maybe the
first move to make is to to make a change
the coaching staff, because it maybe would quiet a little
bit of the noise. But no one at this point
is safe from criticism, and I agree that the assistance
can be looked at as well.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
Yes, very good point, Thank you, Mark. Oh go ahead,
good day, Yes, sir, all right, I know, yeah it is.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
There were holdovers. But if we're going to question Terry
Francona's moves, I would imagine Austin that Terry Francona would
talk to Chris Valakan when he's making the lineup. I
imagine when he's making a pitching change, he's confiding in
Derek Johnson game to game stuff. He's probably talking to
Freddy Benavites. So again, no one is safe from all
(50:56):
of that. But that that's why the head coach, which
is the head coach, because they are going to take
the blame for anyone else on the staff. That's just
that's how this works. Uh, Frankie is calling in as well.
Let's out, Frankie.
Speaker 15 (51:12):
How about a set up a Hall of Fame executive
or a Hall of Fame coach. How about a Hall
of Fame owner. Man, I am sick and tired of
the ownership in this town. They need to bring this
team on Shark Tank and sell it to Kevin o'larry
and become the Winnipeg gen.
Speaker 3 (51:26):
Thank you, thank you, Frankie, thank you appreciate that. Speaking
of ownership and changes in ownership, we have breaking news
in Major League Baseball. Tone oh are you ready for this?
Speaker 7 (51:42):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (51:45):
From Jesse Rodgers of ESPN and retweeted by Jeff passon
MLB Insider. The Chicago White Sox have announced that they
have entered into a long term investment agreement with billionaire
Justin Aishiba. Oh I may be saying his name wrong.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Quote. The agreement provides that from twenty twenty nine to
two thousand and thirty three, Jerry Reinsdorf will have the
option to sell the controlling interest of the White Sox
to Aeshiba. After the twenty thirty four season, Aeshiba will
have the option to acquire the controlling interest. In the
(52:26):
event of any such future transaction, all limited partners of
the White Sox would have the opportunity to sell to
him at that time as well. This essentially means Jerry
rhins Dwarf will be in the latter stages of his
ownership of the Chicago White Sox. This is huge Now,
(52:49):
if you know me at all, you know I'm a
Chicago Bulls fan, huge Reinestorf, and there may not be
anybody on the planet I dislike more than Jerry Reinsdorf.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
Yeah, that's huge news for the Chicago White Sox. I
think that's huge news for Major League Baseball. I think
it's good for Major League base prout a percent so
that that is massive for the White Sox.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
So that's happening. Meanwhile, here in Cincinnati, we have to
talk about this. Austin Austin wins Listen, I would assume
that the decision that a manager would make to carry
three catchers would fall on the GM. And that's just
(53:34):
me assuming. Maybe it's maybe it's Terry Francona that says
I need all three. But would you assume that that's
a nick crawl thing. Yeah, So to put this into perspective.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
The reason I think it's a nick crawl thing is
because Austin Wins doesn't play. And that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
So to put this into perspective, Austin wins on the
season has had forty eight bats. In those forty at bats,
he's hitting four hundred. If you remember, in their twenty
four run out burst. He actually had six hits in
that game. Six hits in that game. Yet for Austin
Wins you mentioned the last time he started a game
was May sixth. He got three at bats on the
(54:14):
night he had two hits, pretty good night, two for
three at the dish. Since then, he has been used
sparingly over the course of four different games on May eighth,
May fourteenth, May fifteenth, and May twenty third. Lance mccallister's
updated this earlier today. The last thirty two games for
the Reds, they have held a third catcher as a
(54:38):
roster spot. That roster spot has appeared in six games
with one start, over thirty two seven played appearances, five
times of that player entering in the eighth inning or later,
and seventeen total innings played. Now, I know, I know
that we are long passed the point of this being
(55:03):
a deep team with multiple options down in Triple A
that they could bring up and add to this roster.
But what is the logical point in the playing time
or lack thereof, that Austin Wins is getting while holding
a roster spot, Especially Austin if in a three to
two game the other night with Garrett Hampson coming to
(55:26):
the plate. You choose to let Hampson ride up there
instead a player that's hitting four hundred on the season.
He's clearly not relied on in a setting like that,
especially when you could have Matt McCain as a runner,
as Terry Francona alluded to in his postgame comments with
Charlie Goldsmith. So you've not used him but for seventeen
(55:48):
innings over thirty two games. At the same time, in
a high leverage situation where you just needed a base
runner to get the lineup over to TJ. Frieda with
a chance to win, you chose to have Garrett Hampson
take the bat. What is going on with Austin wins
and why is he a member of this active roster
(56:10):
at this point?
Speaker 3 (56:12):
Great question, It makes sense. Which had the answer? I
mean on that level alone, I don't know. I guess
if you first of all, they can't send him down,
they would have to dfam, and if they dfam, another
team would probably claim him, so they would lose him.
(56:32):
That is not a good enough reason to let him
take up a roster spot. I guess you know. Playing
Devil's advocate here is there's no other good enough players
that are worthy of that spot.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
Which has to be the devil's a get advocate answer.
But at the same time, there's no one else in
this organization that could get more playing time while using
a roster spot than that. Right on a team that's
this bad, I mean, Reese Hines would be the answer.
Right You're running Connor Joe and Garret Hampson out there,
right handed power bat that can play the outfield. This
team can't score runs right this team struggles against lefties,
(57:10):
seeing that's where Rees Signs would would fit in. So
you know, Marks made the point a couple of times.
Do they have something against Resigns? Does Austin Wins have
something on them? At this point, I don't understand what
the answer would be right from a competitive standpoint, And again,
(57:34):
if the answer was situational baseball, then Austin Wins would
have had a bat instead of Garrett Hampson the other night.
So there is no answer in my opinion, which is
even more maddening about this team it is. It is
on so many levels disappointing what this season has been
(58:00):
from a managerial standpoint, from a roster construction standpoint, from
a development standpoint of players, from individual performances of players
outside of the pitching staff, which is now taking a
big blow with Hunter Green. And we're gonna talk to
Bob Manjean from Novacare about Hunter Green in our number three,
(58:22):
but we talked about trade deadline buyers or sellers and
so on. At this point, Austin, what are the foundational
pieces in this organization? What are the pieces you can
look at right now and say that player can definitively
help this team reach their ultimate goal. Ellie de la Cruz,
(58:49):
who's not performed up to I think what even people
thought he would be. And Hunter Green, who's now going
on his second stint on the aisle. Yeah, Andrew Abbott
right future believable month of May. You could make that argument.
You can make the argument for a lot of the pitchers,
but from a positional player standpoint, like we I remember
having this conversation years ago, and when we had this conversation,
(59:11):
it was Spencer Steere's one of those, Tyler Stevenson's one
of those. Matt McClain is one of those. Elie day
la Cruz, Like, right now, are you you tied to
Matt McLain for the next five years. Is that like
a can't miss foundational piece that you can't wait to
see how they develop? How many of those players are
(59:34):
left on this team in your opinion?
Speaker 3 (59:39):
I would say two? And I don't even know. I
mean even five years down the road. Ellie's not here,
So does it feel like the playoffs are close? Within
five years? The thing?
Speaker 2 (59:56):
So they're so far away and honestly five years from no,
how Green may not be here.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
I guess he hasn't a team option, so probably is.
But still I think that the list is two, which
is crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
Which is just so? So the list is two, and
let's let's get the benefit of doubt. Maybe we can
find four. What about that in the minors, because years
ago it was Ellie and Spencer and Matt McLean all
these guys, and you talked about Noelva Marte and Christian
Incarnaccio and Strand, and I think you have that with
with Rhet Louder. There's there's a buzz there. There's obviously
(01:00:31):
a buzz with Chase Burns. Can you cite right now
any big time can't miss guys from a positional standpoint
in the miners.
Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
South Stewart, Cam Collier Chase Burns.
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
Yeah, those are your untouchables. I mean, I've as anybody
had an update on Edwin Royo this year. Quiet he
was the second coming of Barry Larkin last year, Quiet hurt.
It's just too sixty seven and the miners this year.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Yeah, so you know, the which is, by the way,
a really good year for him. The realness of where
we're at is a is a very sobering situation. If
you're in this Reds organization, if you're in the front office,
if you're a manager, what are you looking to right now?
(01:01:22):
If you're the Reds, what are you hanging your hat on?
Because there are teams in baseball that are struggling this year,
but you say, okay, look to next year. Royal has
just called up their top prospect. One of the top
prospects for the Cubs is in the MVP conversation right now.
A guy that they traded four or five years ago
(01:01:44):
to the with the Mets, Pete Crow Armstrong has developed unbelievably.
But it's not like we're talking about it an influx
of unbelievable talent in the miners. So if you're the
Reds organization, where are you hanging your hand on the
future right now because I'm struggling to find that. And
(01:02:08):
that goes back. I think it's a Mark's call about
Walt Jockety. At least with Walt Jockety Austin, he was
willing to make the big.
Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
Move, and I thought Dick Williams was to.
Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
If Walt Jocketty was here this last offseason and you
went into the offseason knowing that you needed a power
bat in the outfield desperately, I think he would have
done everything he could to get that power bat, even
if it meant moving on from one of those pieces
in the farm system, because he wanted to win now.
(01:02:40):
So again, like I don't know where you look now
for the positive. Do you know who is ranked right
now as the number one farm system in baseball? Who's that?
The Detroit Tigers, who also have the most wins in baseball,
but is number two? No surprise there, that's where they live. Boston.
(01:03:04):
The Dodgers somehow have the fourth best ranked farm system
in all of baseball. Teams that can compete Mariners, White
Sox are six, the Milwaukee Brewers in the Chicago Cubs
are seven and eight, and l Central opponents. Reds aren't
in the top ten. Where are you hanging your hat
(01:03:29):
with this current Reds organization? That's my ultimate question, where
are you hanging your hat for this season and for
the future. And I think the answer is sobering. I
(01:03:49):
think the answer is there isn't one right now, at
least one that I can see now. Eternal Reds opt
the miss Austin. Jeff Carr for si dot Com wrote
that there is a history with Terry Francona that gives
(01:04:11):
him hope for the Cincinnati Reds, and that is looking
back to the Boston Red Sox when Terry Francona coached
in two thousand and three, and then moving on to
the Cleveland Guardians. Did you know, Austin, that in twenty
(01:04:32):
thirteen the Guardians were thirty and thirty three for their
first sixty three games. They went on to win ninety
two games that year. But outside of that, that's all
I'd have to look at that that Guardian's roster. The
fact of the matter is that we put a lot
on Terry Francona. But at the end of the day,
(01:04:54):
in Austin, you alluded to this at Smoke Justice to
start the season. Has this roster ever been good enough
to legitimately compete? No, it was development hopes and Terry
Francona hopes, not actual players. And that's with above average,
(01:05:16):
above expected production from Gavin Lux and Jose Travigno. Right,
the players that they added have been better than we
expected them to be and they're still thirty and thirty three,
which leans back exactly on the fact of the matter
that this roster is just not good enough and never
(01:05:37):
was good enough. What was the knock on Austin Hayes
coming into the year?
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
Hurt a lot?
Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Three stints on the il Are we thinking at this
point Jake Frayley's going to be any different? Is Jamer
Candelario going to be different? Connor Joe Garrett Hampson, Jacob
heard of Beast has been up.
Speaker 3 (01:06:01):
Here Beece just as a monster.
Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
It's just maddening. It's absolutely maddening and it's frustrated at
the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
Yeah, because I think everybody agrees, like you just you
want something to believe in, you want something to be excited,
give me something to hang my hat on. Yeah, it
just never feels you know, I say it all the time.
It's never about today, it's always about tomorrow and tomorrow
never comes.
Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
Yeah, I mean years ago it was oh, just wait,
Alley's gonna come up.
Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
McClean, they're here now. What are you hanging your hat on? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
Garth Brooks sang about that if tomorrow never comes, man
hasn't come here in Cincinnati in a while.
Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
Cincinnati reads, Let's take a break, still waiting on tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Take a break, and let's get to your talkbacks. With
a chance tomorrow to win a pair of Cinti Shirts
gift cards. We're gonna give you like two different Sinti

Speaker 9 (01:07:33):
At a sprinkle, sprinkled, drip drip. It's that time for talkbacks.
It's our favorite part of Sincy three sixty. Yeah, Austin, buddy,
play that talkback on your screen and please try not
to Saba Taja.

An opportunity. An opportunity is what you have today to

I gotta get your advice on something happening this weekend too.
Oh can me do that? Now? Are you asking for
my advice? Well, I don't know. It's more just what's.
Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
It about women? You need help with women? No, it's
it's about I can give you some in marriage advice.
It's about a birthday, okay, a child birthday. Okay. I
can't help much, but we can do that later after
we talked to Bob. Maybe I don't work.
Speaker 16 (01:08:28):
And Tony Pike is at the plate looking to get
a hit off late why not everybody else.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Has rips into right center field. Nicely done, Kevin. Yeah, yesterday,
yesterday was the first time I believe maybe you could
you changed your thoughts yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
No, I didn't say that. It's the first time I
started to believe it was possible.
Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Yep, there was a shift.
Speaker 17 (01:08:50):
Hey, guys, Jeff and your Richmond Austin. First of all,
I apologize for yesterday. I know I got you fired
up a little bit, maybe even a little perturbed. Anyway,
I care about the Reds as much as the next guy.
I just want them to fix what's wrong with baseball,
(01:09:10):
and that's the competitive balance. Whatever that takes.
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
We agree on that for sure, Jeff.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
I don't know if we can figure out what it
takes out.
Speaker 17 (01:09:20):
Now is an extended lockout read it? I don't know.
There needs to be a salary floor in baseball. Clinton
Yates mentioned it yesterday on his show, so it's something
that maybe is gaining traction. I don't know how you
do it. I'm not sure how it would look, but
(01:09:42):
I think you have to hold these owners feet to
the fire, especially in the small market clubs.
Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
Yeah, well, you know, you know, the Brewers have a
smaller payroll than the Rets. Cardinals are a little bit
bigger than the Rets, but it's not by a wide margin.
Tampa Bay's done it for a long time and and
gotten to the postseason. There are ways to do it.
It just puts more pressure on the front office. I
agree on a salary floor though. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:10:12):
Tone in the outer box from the being the Brewers,
Uh we stink against them?
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 10 (01:10:24):
Has me kind of wondering if it's not something to
do with the color schemes where uh, you know, one
team with a blue and yellowish tent dominates another team
with a red and whitish.
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
I don't know. You tell me, Okay, could that be it?
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
You're a bad guy, John, it's Santiago ass than all
one hit in seven games?
Speaker 3 (01:10:52):
Gosh, why didn't I think of that soon? Oh lord?
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
No one else you'd want to have up against a
lefty with the bases loaded, destiny in the.
Speaker 9 (01:11:00):
Sky supplying content other than talking about the reds Tony Austen.
Speaker 8 (01:11:08):
If you could be a superhero, who would you be?
Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Oh, Marvel or DC? Which one has Batman? I don't
know anything about superhero. DC is Batman, I believe. I
guess I'll choose DC. Then Superman can fly though that'd
be kind of cool. Yep, right now, it'd be hard
to got iron Man. I think is great Spider Man's
kind of fun. But at the same time, and I've
(01:11:34):
had this argument many times with my wife, the Hawk
would be up there because the Hawk is indestructible, can't
die and talk Packers.
Speaker 8 (01:11:45):
You can let me know which superhero you would be
as well.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
All right, is this your show? Got Lee? I love
it in Kentucky last night A good pitch.
Speaker 4 (01:11:57):
More of those, and then I think where Scott Haysen's
got a need to the new Madden game.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
You do like a weekly highlight show.
Speaker 18 (01:12:03):
And Tony, what was y'all stipend forgetting your image put
in that Madden game?
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
And then lastly the Reds.
Speaker 6 (01:12:09):
You know, we got a tough strength twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
If we can go seventeen to ten over those next
twenty seven, we're we're we might need to take a
bit of a break. Big Kahuna might need to man.
Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
I love that optimism, but time you might need to
be checked for foreign substances.
Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
It was not a large stipend. I can tell you that. Yeah,
did you exactly what it was? But it was not much.
Speaker 19 (01:12:36):
Yeah, good morning boys, Brian from La What up? Can
we really get segment of a show of Tony doing
the hot ones challenge and see if we did that
really handle the heat.
Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
I did that.
Speaker 19 (01:12:52):
This must be broadcasted as well, so we can actually
see the video. I did that the most mild hot
sauce up there.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
It was miserable. Uh, Brian dm me, I'll send you
the link.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
The worst few days of my adult life.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
I think. Yeah, we did this.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
We did a three day thing with hot ones once before,
where we uh somehow I got mowed myself into all
three days and Sarah Elise did it each day I did.
I completed the whole challenge without taking a drink of water.
Tony nearly died.
Speaker 7 (01:13:26):
Hey, this is Tater day two of having former President
Ronald Reagan's phone. I was looking through it last night
and I discovered that Oswald was in fact the Patsy,
and that the CIA, or at least elements of it,
was what organized a hit on Kennedy. I also found
(01:13:46):
out that Terry Frankcona just maybe a saboteur mm.
Speaker 19 (01:13:53):
And the Christpher Reds is we just can't develop players.
They're great, and as soon as they get up here,
they do well, and as soon as they're under the
Reds organization thumb for just a little bit too long,
they get worse. Matt McLean, where are you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:14):
So we're gonna say developmental curse? Yeah, kind of the
curse of the developmentals.
Speaker 20 (01:14:19):
Okay, hey guys, talk back, Matters guy, Happy Thursday, Condrey
Show as usual. Maybe you've already covered this, but you
were talking about curses. It's the curse of Pedro but Bone,
so that meets the Bee. I know it starts with
a P, but his last name.
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
Starts with a B. Yeah, I got that parted. Put
a curse on.
Speaker 20 (01:14:39):
The Reds and Terry Francone has got a curse on
him too. His dog Igor was in Young Frankinsign.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
By the way, Oh I didn't realize there was beef
between the Reds and Pedro Borbone. I don't either. He
had a very long ultimate.
Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
Starts with a bee.
Speaker 21 (01:14:57):
As the Brown and the Blackburn families, there's no all
that we know. OKC and Indianapolis are going to be
on fire for the NBA Finals. Can you imagine a
better atmosphere than being in Edmonton? Know, everybody wearing a
sweater and everybody just going berserk in there. It looked
like it was insane last night.
Speaker 3 (01:15:14):
Yeah, that place was.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
Bonkers last night. Also, what was what was up? Did
a fan sing the national anthems? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
I didn't see the start of it. Oh dude, was
just like sitting in the stands and saying O Canada
and the Star Spangled banner. That didn't do it?
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Did that? See quick?
Speaker 22 (01:15:34):
Give a shout out to my brother who was retiring
after twenty nine years, is a Cincinnati police officer. Wow,
thank you for your service. I'm pecting the city and
Mike from LA. I hope you're in recovery right now
doing well. Listening to since he three sixty and just
let you know that all since he three sixty is
(01:15:57):
praying for you.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Nice. If I know Mike, he's been reaching for his
phone trying to trying to get that nurse to lift
the band.
Speaker 13 (01:16:05):
Here.
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Shout out to sea Wick's brother. Though, I mean, twenty
nine years as a police officer in this city seen
some stuff. Man, It's getting.
Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
Tony and Audi.
Speaker 23 (01:16:13):
This is Madame Zerni from.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
The block with their hit holes. I don't know.
Speaker 23 (01:16:17):
The curse began after mister Lindner sold to the Castelini family.
We have all respect to the lenders for giving us
United Darry Farmers.
Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
The Castelinis, take your fruits and veggies.
Speaker 23 (01:16:32):
We want Lauraslein or United Dairy Cream to remove the
curse of the Cincinnati Reds.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
Okay, United Dairy Cream.
Speaker 24 (01:16:42):
Okay, Yeah, I got cursed out by a second grade
baseball coach.
Speaker 13 (01:16:47):
It was my dad.
Speaker 24 (01:16:48):
I don't know if I can follow a complaint on him.
Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
That dude, he needs cash out.
Speaker 24 (01:16:53):
You don't know about the Panthers winning that Stanley Cup. Sorry,
I said the Reds were gonna when yesterday I put
the kod on them. But this team man pass out
the bread and the wine and say, Yogi take him
to hospice.
Speaker 3 (01:17:10):
Oh my gosh, their heads are in hospice care.
Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (01:17:15):
Hi, Tony and Austin, how you doing all right?
Speaker 4 (01:17:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
I got one for you.
Speaker 16 (01:17:19):
The curse of Trevor Bauer's girlfriends.
Speaker 19 (01:17:22):
Oh, because I think they lost out on that.
Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
Yeah. I saw some news on Bower yesterday one another
one of his cases.
Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Yeah. I think the girls like ordered just like three
hundred and ten thousand dollars. This is crazy because he
probably lost out on one hundred million from YEA Baseball,
which is brutal.
Speaker 3 (01:17:41):
Austin Ellmore on the Mount russ Mar.
Speaker 25 (01:17:45):
You know Marty Brennaman, you know, that's when he gave
me that compliment. He told me I knew my baseball
when I told him Walt Jockey screwed it up. So hey,
I know we ain't disagreeing with Marty Brenneman.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
So I just talked.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
I make that point to you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
You know, I don't think Marty and Walt were the
best of friends, so let's start with that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Uh. Secondly, I'm not afraid to disagree with Marty. He
and I have seen things very differently at times.
Speaker 16 (01:18:18):
Ken Corleone here here well, so much for Hopium. You
know this is especially distressing for me. I remember when
this team was great. The seventies were wonderful. Cassilini's how
do you show your faces in public? Nick Krale, how
do you show your face in public? I sell the
(01:18:42):
team to somebody who will spend some money. Okay, go Reds.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
During the twenty three season, I was at a game
and Nick Krawl was just walking through the concourse, and
I thought very highly of the man at the time,
so I didn't bother him if I saw through walking
through the concourse. Today, though, I'd ask some questions to him.
You know, if I'm not I'm not gonna get his face.
But I would just say, hey, Nick, can I ask
you a couple of questions? He would say no, but
(01:19:10):
I would try. If if Ken Corleone can't write the ship,
then what do we do?
Speaker 26 (01:19:15):
I never thought i'd say this, but I kind of
missed the David Bell press conferences. Kerry Francona just I
don't have an answer for that. Well, you can't say
that all year.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
Yeah, it's a good point.
Speaker 27 (01:19:34):
Tony Otti from Mount Healthy, I got some beach, will you.
The first one Bob Betty House, come on. The second
one is Betty betting on Baseball. The third one is
Broadway Comments. That's where the Reds Stadium should have been
(01:19:56):
instead of down on the river. You know, switch it
up something new.
Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Second, so that's a stadium curse. Yeah, from Bob betting
House all the way down to Broadway Commons. There's a
lot of stadium curses wrapped up in there.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
Wow. Okay, we asked, all right, we asked, Benny.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
Yeah, get close to your mic, Benny.
Speaker 8 (01:20:19):
Sorry, it's the paintball googen here and I'm here.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
He's very close for the.
Speaker 8 (01:20:23):
New marketing quote for the Cincinnati Red cluote.
Speaker 24 (01:20:27):
Get your bobbleheads today and your free beard tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
Always free beard tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
Anyway, quiet ain't true.
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
One of those bobbleheads coming. We got a bobblehead night
coming up, isn't it, Tyler Stevenson.
Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Bobble coming up on Saturday? When's that?
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
When's that big Red machine thing happening? I don't get
that'll re spark us.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
I believe the big Red machine that's against the Padres.
I believe they got a bibblehead for that. Yeah, actually
they do it. The Hall of Fame. You have to
go and you can like bronze statues of everybody.
Speaker 16 (01:21:06):
Forest for the trees, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
Betting on baseball is chop pullabs.
Speaker 3 (01:21:14):
Thank you for us toys, Craig and the Creek Craig.
There is not much to say.
Speaker 18 (01:21:20):
About this Reds team other than they're just not likable.
You've got an ownership group that tells you that they
only care about money. You've got a front office that
stockpiles middle infielders and starting pitching, yet refuses to move
any of them for upgrades at other positions. And you've
got a coach that seems more like the next Tommy
(01:21:41):
Tubberville than the next Looponela. No reason for ap.
Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
Oh nokes, you're in a dark spot. You're Terry Francona
if you're getting compared to the Congressman, Tommy Tubberville.
Speaker 17 (01:21:53):
Mikes, hey Ton, if you're looking for recommendation for Walker's
birthday party, maybe the bearcat mascot.
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
It was such a big hit the last time.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
Is the Walkman about to turn one? Yeah? Oh, Mike, Yeah?
Have you heard about the the heard that Room? Yeah,
I've heard that story.
Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
Man.
Speaker 28 (01:22:15):
Got a quick fantasy football keeper question for you. In
a league where we actually have to declare our keepers
by this Saturday at noon. Three Optionsquon Barkley, Jayden Daniels,
brock Bowers. This is the first year that I could
keep any one of those guys for a two year period.
Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
I worry about the sophomore slump with Daniels. I think
brock Bowers, now that they have Ashton Genty and Gino Smith,
is a good bet. But it's hard to go against
Saquon in that Philly offense.
Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
I don't believe that Saquan will stay healthy for another
full season, so I would say brock Bowers.
Speaker 29 (01:22:53):
Okay, hopefully that helped discussion today thinking about, uh, the
time that Audi didn't know what fondue was.
Speaker 8 (01:23:04):
So I'm just thinking.
Speaker 6 (01:23:05):
Maybe a good segment can be, you know, if it's
a slow news day or something a little culinary fun
time where Audi tries some fond you know, he tried
some hot sauces and you all developed a palette.
Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
Fine do isn't that that hard stuff they put on cake?
Is that what fondu is?
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
Fondu is a like a melted cheese, I believe, Oh see,
I already forgot what it was you the BBC Brown
Blackburn Cassini.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Allright, you could have some fun with that. Not on
this show, but you could have some fun with that.
Could you get any further away from your microphone? He
said somethingbout a SUPERHEROA Okay, there's no chance our listeners
(01:23:59):
can that if you're listening on a car in a car,
zero percent chance.
Speaker 7 (01:24:03):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:24:06):
I struggled with that.
Speaker 10 (01:24:06):
One double dip from the ding O Roadman caddying today
runs in the Spencer Steer.
Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
Matt McClean does get an autograph from them.
Speaker 10 (01:24:16):
Which is cool, But I also told the broadman, hey,
You should have offered them some hitting lessons. Come on,
gets in the cage, boys, Yeah, leap Man.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
So now we got Spencer McLean or at Kenwood today?
Why are we docs in these guys? Are we doing?
Speaker 3 (01:24:33):
Let them have a day off.
Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
They don't know they need to getting up damn batting cage.
You know what the you know what? Swinging a golf
club does it messes with your swing? I bet it
would fix them. No, they haven't.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
They have played so many games in a row, they
have had a chance to golf, and now they're golfing.
They'll come back this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
That with your swing already bad enough?
Speaker 3 (01:24:54):
Fine? Would you ever caddy? Yeah? I would love to caddy?
Would you? I'd like to? It was our last one.
Speaker 2 (01:25:01):
I'd have some fun with it. You mean that we
didn't need a third try from the guy that was
standing thirty feet away from his phone.
Speaker 3 (01:25:08):
Hard to believe those are two different people, was it really? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
We got to figure this out.
Speaker 3 (01:25:15):
There are good days and bad days. With this segment,
we got an injury report, including one about a'll gool
little NFL injury report. Oh did you see this?
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Well, when we come back, we're gonna do it all right.
Since he three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
thanks to Penn Station.
Speaker 3 (01:25:30):
Are thank Whether you're a weekend Warrior competing at a.
Speaker 1 (01:25:32):
Hot sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
Welcome back, since he three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, the service of CINCEI shirts, Thanks for
listening along. I have a question that we received over
the break on x Austen from Tim Okay. How many
hits would Matt McClain get off Wade Miley in ten
(01:26:02):
carrent bats. I'm gonna say two, man. I mean that's
a serious, serious and indictment. All Wade Miley has to
do is elevate the heater and he's good. You think
he can still give him the heater?
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
Yeah, Wade touch ninety one yesterday, man, and mcclan can't
hit ninety plus, that's true anything. That's why he's playing
golf because the ball sitting still.
Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
That's what he needs.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
UH Revivefitnessystems dot com poll question before we get to
the Bostman Law injury report, would you rather have a
Hall of Fame executive or a Hall of Fame manager.
Right now, eighty one percent say Hall of Fame Executive
and just eighteen percent say Hall of Fame manager. You
can vote at Audio More, at Tony Underscore Pike fifteen
and of course at ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
Jonathan India must have heard what you said earlier. He
just had a lead off Homer today for the Kansas
City Royals for him against the Saint Louis Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (01:26:56):
Ask me how many hits India would get against Wade Miley.
How many eight? Yeah, might actually get it. He might
go ten for ten, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
So it is time for today's Postman Law Injury report
delivered by Postman Law Injured. Postman delivers nothing new. We've
not really heard much outside of Hunter Green's fifteen day
injured list. If I were guessing Austin, I would say
Hunter Green is going to be out for a significant
amount of time.
Speaker 3 (01:27:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:23):
If they threw him on the IL without even getting
the MRI. You're talking about the second stint because of
the growing you're talking about lower back.
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
That's concerning to me. My prediction there is we will
not see Hunter until after the All Star break.
Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
According to Charlie Goldsmith, Austin Hayes could be cleared to
resume running later this week.
Speaker 3 (01:27:44):
Yeah, later this week. Wasn't he supposed to come off
the IL tomorrow. Just no disrespect to Charlie. But like
Jamercandelaario is crushing it.
Speaker 11 (01:27:58):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
He went one for two with a walk. I think
Cess is doing well again.
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
Ces he's got a triple A assignment though, because Terry
Francona said quote when he went down he wasn't swinging great,
then you lose some time. You're trying to use the
rehab assignment to your advantage. What we're getting out here
is there's just a lot of nothing right now as
the injury concerns continue to stick around for the Cincinnati Reds.
Now that is our baseball portion of today's postman long
(01:28:24):
injury report. What I think you were getting at is
some significant football news from an injury standpoint.
Speaker 3 (01:28:31):
Yeah, most notably with your buddy Louianna Rumo, who people
mistaked you. Yeah for Louisanna Rumo for This is kind
of amazing. And this is on the heels of yesterday
we talked about CJ. Stroud has not thrown because of
a shoulder injury. Yeah, Anthony Richardson, the Cult quarterback is
not participating in mandatory mini camp due to a shoulder injury.
(01:28:52):
And this is the same shoulder injury that kept him
out last year, that ac joint in his right shoulder,
his throwing shoulder. So the words that were used by
one Shane Stike in the Indianapolis head coach were hoped
to get him back at some point. That's not great.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Well, so, so I saw James Boyd said that that
quote was he hopes to get him back at some
point during training camp. Okay, that's eight weeks away. Yeah,
for a stiff source shoulder. Now, listen, we've talked about
this in the past. The one thing that they can't
seem to figure out our shoulders. Like they've perfected hip replacements,
(01:29:37):
knee replacements, you know, all sorts of stuff, they can't
figure out shoulders.
Speaker 3 (01:29:42):
And by day, I mean the medical community, don't come
at me. I think we all know it's a work
in progress, especially for professional athletes. But yeah, I think
that's good for the Colts. I obviously don't want anybody
to get hurt, but I think Anthony Richardson stings. Yeah,
so who the Colts?
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
Who you know, who their backup is they made they
made a move this offseason. Danny dimees Danny Dimes man,
Daniel W. Dimes will be the backup to one Aunt Richardson.
What about Riley Leonard?
Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
Who?
Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
Riley Leonard who? Riley Leonard who? Yeah, stinks there was
also and this is not injury well, it could be
injury related. Derek Carr was asked about retiring, and uh,
he's got a shoulder injury as well, And he could
have just had the surgery and kind of been on
the injured list all year and collected thirty million dollars.
He said, he just didn't want to take money from
(01:30:34):
the Saints. Now, what a stand up guy. Meanwhile, Deshaun
Watson has no problem taking money from the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (01:30:41):
So we all know that DeShawn has a cloudy moral
compass to begin with. Uh that being said, Derek Carr
is a better man than me.
Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
Yep, I'd have said on that injured list as long
as they need to, I mean, especially to be supportive
in meetings.
Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
Say you especially have a little bit of understanding with this.
The Panthers, did you dirty? Oh my god, given a second,
you'd take all the money you can get from those bumps.
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
My goodness, I would have. I would have used every
asset i'd I'd have been in there getting rehab. I'd
have been sitting in on the meetings. I'd have been
the perfect teammate. Man Well collecting thirty million dollars. That
is our Postman Law. Injury report delivered by Postman Law.
If you're injured, what do you do? What you call
(01:31:25):
eight four to four Postman, that's what you do Postman delivers.
Our number three is right around the corner. We will
kick things off on U on our number three. Yeah,
talking with Red Brick Legacy. We've talked to our guys
Kyle Decker and Matt McEwan from Red Brick Legacy. Now
there are they're passing the baton a little bit if
(01:31:48):
you will. We're going to talk Chase I'm sorry, We're
gonna talk to Chase Collins, executive director of the Red
Brick Like no relation to no relation to Jamar. But
he's going to kick us off in our number three.
And then we're going to double that up with Bob
man Jean, who is going to talk to us about
(01:32:10):
the Hunter Green injury. And I'm sure he's going to
give us an NBA Finals prediction. That's all coming up
in our number three And Moe Egger's back today. He's
sandwiched in off days, He's back in today, He's off
again tomorrow. I love me some Mo, but Mo will
join us today for quick kits as well. All of
this coming up in our number three. Egg Man of

Speaker 3 (01:34:19):
Let's dive right in.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
Talked about this a little bit earlier in the show,
but we've had an ongoing conversation with some of the
folks from the Red Brick Legacy Miami of Ohio and
what they've been able to start up in the advancements
that they are making. We've talked to my guy, Matt McEwan,
We've talked to Kyle Decker Today. Switching it up a
little bit, Chase Collins is with us, the executive director
(01:34:42):
of Red Brick Legacy, is joining us to update on
everything that's going on.
Speaker 3 (01:34:47):
Chase, what's going on?
Speaker 7 (01:34:48):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
Just staying busy. Hey, it's a good time of the
year for that. Is it from a busy standpoint? Because
we're we're entering into a little bit of a slower time.
We'll talk about what Miami Athletic has done, but from
a busy season standpoint, are you guys busier when the
actual seasons are happening or are you more busy off
(01:35:09):
season standpoint, good question. I think we're busy really year round.
Speaker 30 (01:35:13):
Right right now, it's kind of the slower season as
far as sports, so we're really ramping up on these
road shows. Right We've had three road shows, or we're
having three road shows. We had Cleveland, we had Chicago,
and then this Saturday we have Cincinnati, Eric the Kinwood
Country Club, and those are really the state of the
union of the football program. Coach Martin is there and
he gives a speel on everything happening Miami football related,
(01:35:37):
and it's been great.
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
The events have been very good. The road show itself. Obviously,
you pick locations where you're going to have a contingent
of Miami alum, I'm sure. But how important are the
road shows and have the road shows been for just
getting information? I find in the nil world, even though
it's been around for a longer period of time now,
there are still a lot of questions. There's still a
lot of unknowns. Where does the money exactly go? How
(01:36:01):
do you make a difference? How much does having Chuck
Martin on board with these road shows to meet folks
and answer questions and talk about the state of where things.
How much does that help and being the more hands
on with that, Oh, it's helped tremendously. I don't know
how many conversations I've had people that are non believers
in NIL and just you know, getting the word out
(01:36:22):
of what the NIL can bring to the table as
far as from a Miami standpoint. And you know, so
many people have said, you know, Chase, I just don't
believe in it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
It's not for me.
Speaker 30 (01:36:32):
And I agree with them. I said, you know, I
don't love it either. But here's where we're at. It's
not going anywhere. Let's adapt, let's move forward, and let's
you know, get Miami the best that they could possibly be.
Speaker 2 (01:36:44):
The road show standpoint, is everything secured already for the
road show in Cincinnati. If there's someone listening that hasn't
been a part of it, is there still a way
that they can connect and get there on Saturday?
Speaker 30 (01:36:54):
Yeah, there's still time to register. Go to Miami RedHawks
dot com and you can register. It's a free event.
We're gonna have appetizers drinks there. But again, it's really
a thing for Miami supporters to come and show their
support for Miami football.
Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
When you think about Miami football, you also think about
athletics as a whole and what this you guys have
been able to do. I mean, essentially, we have the
job Chuck Martin has done. We talked last time we
were on with the job Travis Steele was able to do.
We're obviously coming off and an appearance in the College
(01:37:29):
World Series where Miami qualified. They played alongside of Tennessee
and Wake Forest and Cincinnati. I'm sure the other sports
succeeding as well. How much does the positive momentum that
the athletic department as a whole has, how much does
that help with the nil as well?
Speaker 30 (01:37:47):
Oh, it's crazy. You know, we've had an incredible year
from a Miami athletic standpoint. We just won both the
recent Jacobi Trophy, which is awarded to the top men's
and women's athletic programs in the MAC. Only the fourth
time in school history this has happened. So, you know,
the better, the better the athletic programs, the easier the
conversations are with the donors right and trying to find
those in al opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
So things are going really well in Oxford from a
donor standpoint, how much the difficulty in what you guys
are trying to do. I would imagine is the year in,
year out, ask that it becomes because you see the
success on the field, but you know the success can
continue if you're continuing to raise the funds. And there
(01:38:28):
is I'm sure donor fatigue all across the country. There
are hard conversations that need to be had. But how
difficult it has become of Yes, let's enjoy what we're
doing right now, let's enjoy the success we're having, but
also we've got to get back to raising money so
that the success can continue, because unfortunately, in today's sports,
those things are now tied together. Once you can offer
a player who may be as loyal as possible, may
(01:38:51):
love everything about Miami or the university they're at, but
another school comes in and offers a large chunk of
money that's hard for any eighteen nineteen, twenty twenty one
years to turn down. So how how difficult does that
transition become of Okay, let's enjoy what we're doing, but
also we have to think about the future. Yeah, good question.
Speaker 30 (01:39:09):
So you can't really blame these kids, right They're they're
making an X amount at Miami, Ohio and an SEC
school comes in and offers, you know, six acts Like
you know, we love to keep them. They're obviously good
players if an SEC school is wanting them, but at
the same time, they've got to do what's best for
their family financially.
Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
So it's it's you know, you can't really blame the
kids for that, but.
Speaker 3 (01:39:31):
It is what it is.
Speaker 30 (01:39:32):
Back to my original point about NIL, I don't love it,
but we are here and this is you know, what
we're doing, and we have to adapt and move on.
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
How are you guys, from a red brick legacy standpoint,
trying to continue to grow and adapt in your approach
to working an IL and to raising these funds. I
know that you guys started at pretty much ground zero, yep,
and you guys have built up a very very successful
organization to this point. What's the next steps? What are
(01:40:00):
you looking now to capitalize on from a red brick
legacy standpoint.
Speaker 30 (01:40:04):
Yeah, So we've had a couple of generous donors from
an nile standpoint over the last I guess it's been
six months that we've been pre relying on and we're
really appreciative of them. One of My main focus moving
forward is finding more creative ways to raise the ANIL
dollars right, So working with local businesses things of that
(01:40:24):
nature is something that I'm taking priority in moving forward.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
When you think about I think of recruiting all the time,
and there's these different avenues to recruiting. You want to
go to a school if you're a recruit, where you
feel it's the right fit from a scheme standpoint. You
want to go where the coaches seem like a right fit.
You want to go where academically it feels like a
right fit. And then you want to be able to
get paid in today's world. And then facilities become a
(01:40:51):
huge part of this as well. I know last time
we talked to Kyle and Matt, we talked a little
bit about the arena district and where the facilities are
going from a Miami the university standpoint. What's the latest
on that. The direction of the facilities is that, you know,
extra recruiting piece now that Miami has have you seen
the rendering of it? Yes, it looks incredible.
Speaker 30 (01:41:10):
Yes, right, They've got hotels, they've got bars, everything tied
to the arena.
Speaker 2 (01:41:14):
They're their client. The arena district.
Speaker 30 (01:41:17):
I know it's moving in the right direction and they're
they're pretty excited about there in Oxford.
Speaker 2 (01:41:22):
When you talk about the arena itself, it's it's more,
if if my memory starts me correct, it's more than
just housing sporting events. We're talking about concerts, business meetings.
Everything can kind of fall under that one roof. And
you mentioned hotels, restaurants, all kind of encompassing, and I'm
sure that bodes well to give back to the university
(01:41:43):
as well. Absolutely when you when you talk about it.
One of the most curious things I have with with
NIL as a whole is the divvying up of the
NIL funds and how that can work. I talked with
the guys last time and we talked about the Big
East and how the Big East is making things a
little bit difficult because there's no football in the Big East,
(01:42:05):
so they're ANIL dollars all of a sudden, they can
throw a lot more money at maybe a basketball player
in the portal or something like that. The discussions from
an athletic department on how to divvy up the money,
where where does that start out? Is that an athletic
director or is it the athletic department as a whole.
Speaker 30 (01:42:23):
Yeah, it's the athletic department, athletic director David Saylor there
in Oxford. That's going to be ultimately their decision. I know,
if you look at an industry standard, it's usually about
seventy five percent football, fifteen percent men's and women's basketball,
and then the rest did it up from the other sports.
I'm not sure how they're going to do it in
Oxford as something in where we've been talking about, but
(01:42:45):
it's going to be should be similar to that.
Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
Is there a point do you think that we could
get in sports where you almost start going on a
year to year basis of the success of the teams.
You know, I look at what U see is doing
right now, and I've talked a lot about it's a
big year for UC football because they've been down a
couple of years, and they are very active in NIL,
They're very active in the portal. Basketball is also put
(01:43:08):
together a very impressive roster women's basketball, men's baseball coming
off a tournament appearance. Do you think that we could
get to a point or maybe we're already at a
point where the success of a season or maybe a
couple of seasons combined would change those conversations on we're
sixty forty here, but maybe we need to be fifty
(01:43:30):
to fifty, you know, is that something that NIL can
lean into. Obviously the handful of teams at the top
or they're always going to have the NIL money. But
for a lot of the schools, I would imagine if
you're struggling in one sport, there's got to be difficult
conversations that would happen about how the money's divvied up.
Speaker 3 (01:43:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 30 (01:43:48):
Yeah, But on the same note, on the flip side,
if you're a coach and your team struggling, maybe you
want more in IL funds, right, So I see both sides. Yeah,
I think it can go year to year, and I
agret think you reward the teams that are doing well
and you know, divvy up the funds that way.
Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
From a Miami standpoint alone, when you look at the
rest of the MAC, I know, and we talked about
starting kind of at the ground level, from a competing
with the rest of the MAC standpoint, where does red
brick legacy where you guys slotted at right now?
Speaker 30 (01:44:19):
So our goals to be the best in the MAC, right,
So teams like Toledo, Akron and basketball. Those in Miami,
we believe were sort of the top three between the
top three and four in the MAC and we expect
to be number one here soon.
Speaker 2 (01:44:35):
How does it become from a recruiting pitch standpoint, because,
as you mentioned, the SEC schools are always going to
have X amount of dollar. You're talking six figures to
come a help settlement's gonna be twenty and a half
million right now, yes, even more that that can be coming.
So when you dive into that specifically, does it change
the way a coach and Chuck Martin has to go
(01:44:57):
about recruiting kids out of high school? Change the approach
of how they attack the portal or re recruiting their
own kids at a standpoint, because there is there's a
moment where you know you may not be able to
pay what someone else is paying, but there are also
positives to sticking around and building your brand in that sense,
does it change the way coaches are recruiting in today's game?
Speaker 30 (01:45:18):
Yeah, I think so. Coach Martin touched on this in Chicago.
He brought up a good point. You know, he brings
kids in with no nil dollars and you know develops
them into these incredible players that these SEC teams want
to proach, and you know that's it does change the
way you recruit, right He's selling more on development and
you know, getting them to the next level to the NFL.
(01:45:41):
And you know the SEC schools they've got the nil
dollars that they can you know, roll out right away,
and it does change your way of recruiting one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (01:45:49):
We hear a lot about the house settlement from someone
that may not know anything about what's going on, and
in simple terms, can you explain what's going on and
what this settlement does and what it's going to provide.
Speaker 30 (01:46:01):
Yeah, so the house settlement INIL collectives have always been
a third party entity in LLC and now with this
house settlement, once it finalizes, schools are going to be
able to bring that in house and it's going to
be a five to one C three so any contributions
can be tax ride alls for individuals and again that
right now, the collectives have the say in sort of
(01:46:24):
where they target the nil opportunities and dollars, but when
it goes in house, it's going to be within the
Athletic department.
Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Okay, the road show The third and final stop is Saturday.
For those that again want to be a part of
that or maybe late to the party here and want
to get there.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
What's the easiest way for them to do that?
Speaker 30 (01:46:43):
You can register at Miami RedHawks dot com. Again, it's
Saturday at Kinwood Country Club, six o'clock.
Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
And then if you are an individual or a business
owner and looking to get more involved with what you
guys are doing with Red Brick Legacy, I'd imagine there's
opportunity to donate. Imagine there's partnerships that are available. What's
the easiest way that listeners could, uh could find out
more about what you guys are doing exactly?
Speaker 30 (01:47:07):
Well, yeah, you can go to RedBrick Legacy dot com.
All the informations there.
Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
Chase, this was awesome man, the executive director of the
Red Brick Legacy, Chase Collins, appreciate your time as always,
and uh, I look forward to catching up again soon.
It's been fun, man, Thank you, Yes, sir from NIL
to Injury Bob man Jean from the University of Cincinnati
and Novacare is going to join us next as we
continue on an hour number three thanks to Penn Station
at Cincy three sixty on ESPN fifteen to thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:47:33):
Nop is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, Welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
Back since he three sixty as we roll along here
in the third hour of the Thursday edition of Cincy
three sixty. Thanks to our friends at Penn Station, thank
you for listening. We get a chance each and every
week to talk to our guy from Novacare in the
University of Cincinnati by Man Gene as it relates to injuries,
and we unfortunately have another injury to talk about as
(01:48:06):
it relates to the Cincinnati Reds, and that centers around
Hunter Green. Before we get to that, Bob, how are
you doing is.
Speaker 3 (01:48:11):
The question, Tony.
Speaker 5 (01:48:13):
It's a great day here on campus. You know, we're
training our teams and getting ready for the fall season,
and you know, trying to keep our kids from getting hurt.
You know, we're trying to establish a good summer routine.
Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
The injury bug has continued to haunt the Cincinnati Reds
this year. We talked a couple of weeks ago Hunter Green,
when we talked with the groin strain in the right leg,
which was his push off leg. We talked about, you
know the implications of that and what that can lead to,
and he missed a couple starts, but for the most part,
(01:48:48):
I think if you're looking at a health standpoint, he
got back as quick as you could hope that he did.
He made a couple starts and then unfortunately had to
leave the game earlier this week because he re injured
that right groin, and this time Terry Francone actually talked
about a back injury that was flaring up as well.
(01:49:10):
So let's start with the groin. Let's start with the
possibility of re injury. When we talk about a groin,
how much does that normally happen and is that usually
associated with just not letting it heal fully?
Speaker 5 (01:49:24):
You know, it's really hard to say, Tony, unless you
have the MR and you actually see the level of
a demon within the injured muscle, whether it be growing hamstring,
quad or whatever. The big thing is to make sure
that it fully gets back to the point where they
can comfortably perform their activity. And obviously he was or
(01:49:45):
you know, their sports medicine staff wouldn't allow him.
Speaker 2 (01:49:49):
To come back, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:49:51):
And then it's a fine line how much do you train,
how much do you exercise, how much do you throw
without maybe be causing reaggravation. It's a guessing game, you know.
It's like right now, I'm sitting here with Emily Johnson,
our women's soccer trainer, and a couple of her kids,
and Emily is all about trying to prevent other injuries.
(01:50:13):
So you know, you will definitely see if I heard
a left growing or a right growing. Now that causes
some imbalance. So we work a tremendous amount of balance
with our kids in trying to make sure that we're
balanced strength, but also that they can function on one
leg because you absolutely will aggravate what we call the
(01:50:37):
contraladial side or the opposite side, and you see it
all the time, especially in women's soccer.
Speaker 14 (01:50:43):
Just like baseball.
Speaker 5 (01:50:44):
You know, if you injure that right knee, all of
a sudden, I start worrying about the left hip. If
you injure your left hip, I start worrying about your
right back. Because you can compensate when you're playing, and
it doesn't matter what sport. You know, in baseball, when
you're a picture and you've got that land mechanic and
if the push leg is hurt, you're going to compensate
(01:51:06):
at the time of impact load and potentially you know,
irritate your low back, usually on the other side. So
that's why we spend so much time working in single
leg positions and we do it with with balance and
in today's world. And you've been in the training room
and actually you were around. You were part of the
original study when we used to do the dinavision at camp. Well,
(01:51:30):
that's kind of evolved into actual pods and you you know,
we use a company called play Pods. They're all over
the internet, and we had different printing routines to get
the kids to where their vision and balance are intuned.
And our goal is to try to reduce that risk,
you know, just like you know, maybe what happened with Hunter,
(01:51:52):
I don't know, it's just a guess. But make sure
that there's balance there so when he does land or
when he does it into his his takeoff position, that
he won't excessively compensate on the other side. We do
not want our girls, especially in soccer, to compensate to
the other side because that increases a risk. If you
(01:52:14):
look at some of the data out of Cincinnati Children's
Hospital on high school kids especially, and if you injure
your you tear your right ACL, you have an increased
risk within the first two years to injure the other ACL,
and the whole reason is they're not back to balance.
That's where you have to get into a clinic with
(01:52:36):
a PT or an athletic trainer who understands compensation and
balance so that they don't try to compensate too far
over to the other side, increasing the risk on that side.
Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
That's obviously, I think where the concern for Hunter Green goes.
Terry Francona said after the game that his lower back
is starting to bother him. So trying to figure out
a that's related. How how much do athletes do this?
And obviously it's not the athlete wanting to do so,
but you put so much time into rehab for that
specific injury that maybe it does weaken some of those
(01:53:12):
other parts of the body. So how worrisome does it
become if you see or if you read Bob a
a groin strain that all of a sudden is causing
lower back pain. How worriesome does that become for an athlete?
Speaker 5 (01:53:25):
If it's me, I'm really kind of concerned because you know, again,
potentially there is I want to look at the mechanics.
So you know, right now in the training room, I'm
looking at three four different girls, I'm looking at their mechanics.
I'm looking at one of my basketball players who you know,
got hurt last year. I'm looking at his mechanics and
making sure that he's got that foot position correct. The
(01:53:48):
low back is in the right position, because if you
have some torque in the low back because you're compensating
on the right growing or the left rowing, and you're
compensating that back, then the back eventually is going to
have issues. But let me say one other thing. When
you train an injury, you do not train an injury.
(01:54:09):
You're training the whole body, because the body has to
return to play, not just the right growing, not just
the left meaning, not just the left shoulder or the
right shoulder, the whole body. And too many times young
kids when they get hurt, they look at just the injury.
So right now and our girls, who all have injuries,
(01:54:31):
we're working probably harder on the other side. The other
side does not become injured because there's that increased risk.
So that's again it goes back to where you're going
your rehab is the person you're rehabbing with fully understand
your sport. There is the person you're rehabbing with fully understand.
They've got to train from head to toe. You have
(01:54:53):
to train rotation, you have to train planes, and you
can't just say, you know, I'm going to try the
right knee or the right going or the right shoulder.
You're training the whole thing and you've got to, you know,
you've got to really emphasize the athlete getting back to
controlling the full body.
Speaker 2 (01:55:14):
When you look at lower back type of injuries, I
know we've talked about these before, but how much can
they really debilitate an athlete. Gavin Lux was having a
really good season for the Reds and still is having
a good season, but there's even been comments made about it.
It looks like he's dealt with back spasms and it
looks like his swing has changed or it looks like
(01:55:34):
he's changing things up where he can feel. How much
does the lower back or the back in general just
kind of dictate what these athletes are able to do,
and it feels like that becomes one of the harder
areas to manage and stop getting those flare ups when
it does get into the back.
Speaker 5 (01:55:52):
I hate back, Tony. There's so many different pieces to
the puzzle to the back that you really have to
hone on, first of all, finding that exactly is it discogenic,
Is it just joint in the little facets, Is it
more of a muscle strain, is it more of a tear.
There's so many different pieces to the back that it's
(01:56:13):
not you know, it's not all that simple. And then
number two is it's really easy for a back issue
to become chronic. So good stories about five years ago
player major League baseball player came down to me from
Chicago had had pained towards the whole second half of
(01:56:33):
the season. They did a bunch of stuff to get
to try to get him back, and he continued to
play through it. And at the end of the day,
you know, when I was talking to the training room like, hey,
do you mind if I shut him down for like
four or five six weeks and just focus on trying
to correct all his mechanics and get everything calm down.
And we shut him down and then slowly brought him
(01:56:56):
back up, and you know, he still plays today, you know,
without any real discomfort. But he had a lot of
in young kids today, young kids have tight hamstrings, they
sit too much, they have tight hip flexures, they sit
too much, they have weak lower abdominals. They don't push
(01:57:18):
abdominals enough. DN squats does not get your abdominals started up.
You have to focus on your core, your abdominals, your hip,
aving doctors, the outside of the hip people today, it's terrible,
just terrible. I saw a kid over the winner who
pitched four team down South in the MLB. In the end,
(01:57:41):
his hips were given him trouble and it led to
some shoulder problems. So we work and again it goes
back to we didn't just work as shoulder issue. We
worked as hips. We worked as core, We worked as legs.
Because you can't focus on one part. Everything is connected
and everything has to be trained.
Speaker 2 (01:58:02):
Bob, you're the best. That is Bob Manjean from the
University of Cincinnati from Novacare. Bob, get back to whatever
it is that you were doing, making sure these athletes
are playing at their peak abilities, and we appreciate your time.
We'll do it again next week.
Speaker 5 (01:58:16):
You got it, Tony, anytime, and make sure can you
get on next a little more? Because you know all
I hear is Austin Austin about the Reds and Austin
about the Reds and Austin. But I only sent that
Will Howard thing just to lighten it up a little bit,
because you tou are just two laser focused on the Reds.
Can we talk about the Bengals a little bit or
maybe the NBA a little bit, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:58:37):
We might get a little bit of that.
Speaker 2 (01:58:38):
But you know, if you were wondering, Will Howard had
a great series of OTA so uh, thirty one to
thirty eight, eighty one percent completion rate, eleven touchdowns to
zero interception. Feels like the Pittsburgh Steelers found their quarterback, Bob.
Speaker 5 (01:58:53):
Yeah, I hope, because I don't want to waste the
money on an old guy.
Speaker 2 (01:58:57):
Yeah, zero adahasca or whatever it is that Will Howard
takes Bob.
Speaker 3 (01:59:01):
If you want to talk a little NBA who you
got tonight? Final start tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:59:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:59:07):
I just uh, I like both teams, so we'll see
what happens. You know, I've got I've got a lot
of friends in the NBA, and you know, I when
when we get into it with the kids about the NBA,
I don't you know, I got to be careful. I
don't want the guys from the Mavericks of the guys
from the thunder And to know or the Nuts or
anybody that I'm talking bad about their teams.
Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
Well that's why Austin, Bob's gonna eventually run for a
political spot. Because his answers remain political. He won't think
about Man Jean yep, sitting on the fence on Thursday.
Speaker 5 (01:59:41):
I can't bet on the NBA guys. I got to
be careful. Yeah, I bet on the horses though.
Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
Okay, yeah, I know that.
Speaker 2 (01:59:50):
Bob. You're the best man.
Speaker 5 (01:59:51):
Thank you, you're walking, Tony, You and Austin have a
good week.
Speaker 3 (01:59:55):
That is, Bob Man Jean.
Speaker 2 (01:59:56):

Station at Cincy three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty. Are
(02:00:18):
you Welcome back? Since he three to sixty thanks to
Penn Station. Thanks for listening this afternoon on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Molagger will join us in just
a few minutes, Austin. I believe we're gonna have to
try to get our guy, Tommy G on tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (02:00:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:00:40):
I know FC does not. I don't believe they play
this weekend little international break here. But the times that
we have not connected with Tommy G have not gone well, right,
So we're gonna have to talk to FC Cincinnati tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (02:00:52):
I want to say Tommy is traveling right now? Oh, well,
I hope he's a vamab.
Speaker 2 (02:00:56):
He better put aside his travel plan because, as you know,
I follow closely to his uh three g's on Instagram.
Speaker 3 (02:01:03):
Yes, the life and times and travels of Tommy G.
So I we may need to reach out now if
we want to get him on.
Speaker 2 (02:01:11):
Yeah, make sure that he's gonna be ready to go.
Speaker 3 (02:01:13):
Yeah, because I'm trying to get Charlie Goldsmith on. But
as we know, there's no magic potion. Big week for Charlie.
For Charlie.
Speaker 2 (02:01:20):
We got to talk to Charlie about Terry. I don't
think we need to about Tito.
Speaker 3 (02:01:24):
Yeah, I would imagine Charlie does not want to into that.
Charlie does not want to be the story, so we're
not We're gonna be fair to Charlie.
Speaker 2 (02:01:32):
Charlie asked, fantastic question, fair to everybody. I appreciate the
questions that Charlie ask.
Speaker 3 (02:01:37):
I think it would be fun to have Charlie ask
us those questions and then we could answer is terry,
But I don't want to get Charlie in trouble. We
could have done that ourselves. Yeah, uh, you were gonna
ask me for advice on something?
Speaker 2 (02:01:50):
Yeah, you know what I want to know for our
walker's turning one. Yes, they're talking about this earlier week.
He actually turns one on on Tuesday, on the tenth,
but we're we're having his first birthday with the family
on Saturday. My question is, what is the level of
extremes one needs to go to for a first birthday party?
(02:02:14):
Almost none, Because what I've learned, and this is in
all likelihood our last child, what I've learned is the
first birthday is one you want to celebrate the baby, obviously,
but it's more about the parents. I'm just not big
into the first birthday theme. Okay, you know we're having
family over. We have family over a lot. We're a
close family, so it's not like it's anything new on
(02:02:36):
that front. But from you know, balloons to cake, to
cookies to other decorations.
Speaker 3 (02:02:45):
That seems a little too much.
Speaker 2 (02:02:46):
There's a lot of going on, respectfully, the Pike House
and this week have put in a lot of work,
talked about getting the backyard ready, sure, spending time out there.
Now it's going to rain Saturday. Yeah, Now it just
feels like too much. I mean, feels like a little
too much. You have to ask yourself, is it about
the child or is it about me?
Speaker 3 (02:03:05):
Right?
Speaker 2 (02:03:06):
And if it's about you, well then do whatever makes
you happy. Like, I don't think in a couple of years,
Walker's gonna be like man, I remember that. No, his
first birthday theme was not. It really doesn't matter until
you get past five. Yeah, now they start to have
maybe some understanding. And you know, they had an opportunity
to have a Taylor Swift theme party for Crossley Crowsley's eight.
Speaker 3 (02:03:26):
She wanted a Taylor Swift party. Yeah, that's when I
think it starts to matter. That's yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (02:03:30):
Wilder is going to turn five and Wilder is now
he's got friends and different stuff. I think Wilder will
have more of a say and if I'm to enjoy
his party a little more.
Speaker 3 (02:03:38):
If I'm not mistaken, I know this based off of
photographs and talking to my family. I believe my first
birthday was held at the McDonald's in Pickwell, Ohio.
Speaker 2 (02:03:51):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:03:51):
Now was this a McDonald's with an indoor play area.
It was not. We had like like the whole right
side of the restaurant really brought a bunch of people.
Speaker 2 (02:04:01):
This is fascinating.
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
If you go up and you obviously order your food
at the counter back when people used to do that,
and then you come over and there was I believe
at that time McDonald's used to have like a little
thing with cakes and stuff in it. You remember those days, Yes,
like if you go to a dairy queen, right, Yeah,
So I if I'm not mistaken, McDonald's had that at
(02:04:22):
the time, and so we would. We had a bunch
of people over, people go get their food, come over,
had a little McDonald's cake and I sat in the
highchair because I had no idea what was going on,
and then that had cake all over me. And they
took pictures.
Speaker 2 (02:04:36):
Getting the cake. Walker's not had cake before, so that's
a big thing. Let him make a mess of himself.
Speaker 3 (02:04:41):
Yeah, yeah, of course, So I would have to ask
my parents, and maybe my dad's listening. I don't know
how incredible. How long did the whole thing last, you know,
based off the pictures, I want to say thirty five minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:04:53):
Come Dawson's first birthday at McDonald's. Yeah, And it's different
if it's got a play area.
Speaker 3 (02:04:57):
And you know, I think it did, but obviously I
wasn't involved in the play area. Sure, but the kids
who are there, and I'm obviously too young to play
with them, they can go have fun at the play area.
Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
It's It's often been a back and forth in my
in the Pike household of hosting a birthday party at
your home or doing it at like a park, because
at the park, you know, you clean things up, you
move on. You're good at home, you know, I like,
I got memorabilia in the basement. Sure, we got kids
running around. It's a little bit of a stress. It
(02:05:32):
comes with that.
Speaker 3 (02:05:33):
We haven't had an update on this in a while.
How are the dogs doing? Oh, we might have to
have a whole segment tomorrow. It's Piper and Posey, if
I'm not mistaken, of course, named after Ohio state legend
of vi Posy.
Speaker 2 (02:05:44):
We we might have to separate set some time aside
for some developments in the Dolts front. Is good developments
or bad developments? That depends on you ask, depends you ask.
All right, we'll do that. Yeah, maybe we'll do that tomorrow.
For now, we'll break down good because uh, I think
is eagerly eagerly waiting by h to join us for
(02:06:05):
quick Hits next on Sincy three sixty thanks to Penn
Station on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (02:06:10):
Three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports Station.
It's time for Cincy three sixty Quick Hits on ESPN
fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (02:06:21):
I was looking for mo mos here.
Speaker 13 (02:06:23):
I'm here.
Speaker 3 (02:06:23):
Welcome back since he three sixty? What's up? This is
quick Hits?
Speaker 12 (02:06:27):
You were?
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
You weren't in yesterday?
Speaker 8 (02:06:29):
I was out.
Speaker 14 (02:06:29):
James R.
Speaker 2 (02:06:29):
Pen was in for you. You were at the ballpark.
Speaker 4 (02:06:32):
I was.
Speaker 3 (02:06:33):
You got to see one of those rare settings with
the position.
Speaker 13 (02:06:36):
Player Miley come back. Third baseman Wade Miley, Yeah, bitching
in the ninth ninety. You know what the best part
of yesterday's game was.
Speaker 3 (02:06:43):
I don't know it ended.
Speaker 13 (02:06:44):
No, it was three to one, right, Milwaukee goes up
five to one on a two run homer and the
scoreboard gave the runs to the Reds.
Speaker 3 (02:06:51):
Oh so for a moment.
Speaker 13 (02:06:55):
One of the people that I was with was like,
how did Milwaukee just tie the game for the Reds?
And I'm like, new new baseball rules. Yeah, that was
the best part of the game, was looking at the scoreboard,
going I wonder if the Brewers are gonna notice.
Speaker 3 (02:07:06):
I have been to twelve Reds games this year in Cincinnati.
There have been a lot of errors on the scoreboard,
some spelling, grammar, wrong player, wrong team. All season?
Speaker 13 (02:07:24):
Can I tell you my favorite one of all time?
Opening Day twenty eleven, the Reds had an outfielder named
Fred Lewis. They called him Ford, so all season long
I called him fird Lewis. I remember a Bengals game
I went to once Chris Cocker got hurt.
Speaker 2 (02:07:38):
Would Fred Lewis start for this Reds?
Speaker 3 (02:07:41):
Car Ford? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:07:43):
Probably not Ford Lewis. All season long, I called him
Ford Lewis. And finally, someone like with the Reds asked me,
what do you call him? Fird I'm like, you, guys,
don't remember an opening day when you called him ford On.
I haven't called him nearly as many mistakes. Far be
it for me to criticize someone for making an error,
But the Reds make a lot of yesterday. Given the
Reds the two runs, I thought it was an inventive
(02:08:04):
way of trying to If anybody notices, maybe.
Speaker 3 (02:08:08):
That's one of the answers Tito's looking for. He's looking
for a lot, Tito, the Magnificent, Tato, the magnificence.
Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
How long do you think you keep ridding out three
catchers on this roster with the impact of Austin Wins
over the last thirty two games.
Speaker 13 (02:08:23):
It doesn't make any sense. I mean, you are limiting yourself.
We talked about this exhaustively. I'm so baffled earlier this
week when they didn't use Austin Wins instead of Garrett Hampson.
You're effectively managing with twenty five players. Yeah, you're leaving now.
It's one thing if you go, you know what, we
are carrying a third catcher, but screw it, we're using
the guy in the situation that demands it, regardless of
(02:08:45):
which position that he plays. Then okay, Carrie, how Carrie
eight catchers? Then, but if you're not going to play
this guy and use him in situations where it makes
total sense to use him only because he plays catcher,
then it doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 3 (02:08:58):
What are you coming up on your show today? We
have a new Cyclones head coach.
Speaker 2 (02:09:01):
Wow?
Speaker 13 (02:09:01):
Yeah, So I don't know if you know that the
Cyclones head coach search lasted like six weeks.
Speaker 3 (02:09:07):
Extensive. Riley was over under the Knick search lasting six weeks.
Speaker 13 (02:09:13):
I think that's gonna be a while.
Speaker 3 (02:09:14):
Really, Yeah, you don't think they got the guy already? No?
Speaker 13 (02:09:18):
No, I don't know what to make of it. I
still really don't know what to make of it, because
you talk about an organization that does not deserve the
benefit of the doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:09:26):
It's them.
Speaker 3 (02:09:26):
It's that one.
Speaker 13 (02:09:28):
Uh and so I could totally see them screwing this up.
Speaker 3 (02:09:30):
What's your immediate reaction to the Jay Wright name being
thrown out there?
Speaker 13 (02:09:36):
Nonsensical? Okay, nonsensical. There's been nothing to indicate that he
has any interest in coaching.
Speaker 2 (02:09:41):
Again, they need a tough nosed defensive mind in him.
Speaker 13 (02:09:44):
He'd an abrasive guy. He's just going to play the starters.
Screw this, play twelve players. They should give Billy Donovan
a call. He's under contract with the Chicago Bulls. I know.
Speaker 3 (02:09:53):
Did you know he's the third longest tenured coach in
the NBA Now.
Speaker 13 (02:09:56):
Because NBA teams just blow through coaches, that's not surprising
at all.
Speaker 3 (02:09:59):
Mike Malona be there soon.
Speaker 13 (02:10:01):
Mike Malone's interesting and he's certainly accomplished, but like he
is like Tom Thibodeau and that he plays the starters
a lot. He's abrasive. I mean, he's like a younger,
perhaps more successful version of the guy they just fired.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
Interesting.
Speaker 13 (02:10:13):
So the Jay Wright thing I think would be awesome,
but there's been nothing to indicate that he has any
interest in taking that job. And by the way, like
it's it's it's a good job, but it's also a
job where they just blew out the guy that was
your most successful coach in a quarter century. Yeah, if
you don't win the chadship, I mean, it's it's championship.
Speaker 3 (02:10:31):
Or bus good luck? What else you got on the show.
Speaker 13 (02:10:33):
So you guys have talked a lot about Tito the
Magnificent not having the answers. I'm gonna tell you what
he wants to say, because there's what he is saying,
and you guys are getting all but hurt about it.
It's because he can't say what he wants. What the
Rights are doing is not working. If this continues to
not work, then what we have to entertain that possibility?
Stop with the run differential?
Speaker 2 (02:10:55):
Stop.
Speaker 13 (02:10:55):
I just I have very few requests. Okay, I will
go to the pit bull show at the race track. Wow,
nobody ever reminds me after the Reds lose what their
run differential is. I'm done. Stop with the run differential.
I'm gonna make that into a longer segment. You know
what it is? Since they scored twenty four against the
Orioles minus nine. Okay, that Orioles game where they scored
twenty four runs was awesome. Since then, run differential minus nine.
(02:11:19):
Stop with the run differential, stop fair, I'll make that
a longer segment. And Jeremy Fowler proposes a Trey Hendrickson
trade that makes absolutely no.
Speaker 2 (02:11:29):
Sense Austin has today. Is there a curse you can
come up with that you can pin the Red struggles on.
Speaker 13 (02:11:37):
It starts with the letter f oh the curse. Oh
you mean like the curse of Ford. No Ford Lewis.
Let's see curse of because you had.
Speaker 3 (02:11:49):
The Billy Goat, the Bambino, h Bartman, black Cat, Bill
Buckner albes.
Speaker 13 (02:11:54):
One might say the curse of the ninety four strike,
because what happens to the Reds if they win the
World Series that year in ninety four, which they could
have now, they didn't have very good starting pitching, but
they were up in the National League Central by a game.
What does that do for their fortunes in nineteen nine?
Is the curse of Davy Johnson. Davy Johnson, if you remember,
as the last Rats manager to advance in the postseason
and he got fired. Why did he get fired because
(02:12:14):
he was living with his girlfriend, who wasn't his wife?
Man Like, that's the thing that happened, at least in
my lifetime. The Cincinnati Reds had a manager. I never
knew that. And during nineteen ninety five, during the season,
it was known he is not coming back. Go watch
any of those playoff games from ninety five on YouTube.
They talk about it extensively. Davy Johnson, who had managed
the New York Mets to our World Series winner in
eighty six. Was the manager of the Reds. Took over
(02:12:36):
in ninety three after they bounced Tony Perez. They had
the best record in the division in ninety four, and
then it was in the ninety five season. He's not
coming back. Ray Knight is the manager in waiting. He
was the third base coach, and I remembers in high school.
I'm like, why are we doing that? And I was like, oh,
because Marge shot doesn't like the fact that Davy lives
with a woman who's not his wife.
Speaker 3 (02:12:55):
I figured Marge was a great candidate for the Curse
of but she died in Lasan four, Like she's been dead.
What about Shatzi?
Speaker 13 (02:13:03):
I don't know. There have been a couple of different Shotze's.
Speaker 3 (02:13:05):
See.
Speaker 2 (02:13:06):
You know I was someone today said Walt Jockety, Well,
Jockety just passed. We disagreed because Walt Jockety actually tried
to go for it and build a winner.
Speaker 13 (02:13:14):
Maybe the best executive they've had might have depleted a farm.
Speaking of executive marg Shot, I was eleven years old.
My grandpa took me to a game with blue seats right,
which was awesome at the ES and you could walk down.
Marge would watch the first few innings in the owner's
box and then come down and sit in her seat
behind the dugout where there was a red phone for
some reason, and you would line up to get Marge's autograph.
(02:13:35):
And I remember getting the autograph. But when I was
like four deep in line, she smelled like my aunt Carol,
like you could smell the vodka, the Scotch and cigarettes
from ten feet away my head.
Speaker 3 (02:13:46):
Speaking of executives, are if I Fitness Systems dot com
pole question today asked would you rather have a Hall
of Fame executive or a Hall of Fame manager? Eighty
percent say executive.
Speaker 13 (02:13:58):
Baseball general manager matter more than managers, correct, I Hall
of Fame managers are great, and Terry Francona is a
Hall of Fame manager, we get it.
Speaker 3 (02:14:07):
But the magnificent, the Magnificent Tito is.
Speaker 13 (02:14:10):
But I think baseball general manager is one of the
hardest jobs in sports, and I think it's one of
the most important. It's one of the most important. It's
the most important job I think in baseball. So yeah,
I mean I would rather have both, you know, I'd
rather have a great executive and a great manager who
are really good at working together. But if I had
a choice between the two, Like if I they said
(02:14:32):
he we can give you a total bumbling idiot in
one of these two capacities, I would say, give me
the idiot as a manager.
Speaker 2 (02:14:38):
Austin, do we get any type of resolution on the WNBA?
Is that still going on? I believe the investigation the
investigations on go. Did you see this? I did. If
cussing has a problem, I've I'm do some some funds
from my time at UC just for cussing. Well, Brian
Kelly cussing at me.
Speaker 13 (02:14:58):
You're getting cussed out.
Speaker 2 (02:14:59):
Yeah, that happens in a WNBAH. Moiger's next Eggman, Cyclones
New Coach and more Cyclones New Coach on The Mulliger Show.
I'm curious to see how he's going to implement Justin
Vive into the Clones offense.
Speaker 13 (02:15:12):
Well, we'll ask him.
Speaker 3 (02:15:13):
He's a foundational piece in the history of the Clone.
Foundational pieces. You need those in there. I think he's
played like nine hundred ECHL games.
Speaker 13 (02:15:22):
You know what I love most when you go to
a Cyclones game. Aside from the fact they wouldn't give
Austin a hat when he dropped the puck. They have
a banner for all the retired jersey numbers. Yeah, and
then among the retired players, not Pete Rose but fans yep.
