Speaker 1 (00:00):
About Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Skyline Chile.
Stop by Skyline Chili for a three way or cheeze
Cony today. Feeling good, It's Skyline Time. This is ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Good afternoon, Welcome in, Happy Monday. It is a new
week for Cincy three to sixty. You're listening on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station or via the iHeart Radio app.
If you're listening via the iHeart Radio app, we are
coming off of Friday where I think we had the
best finals that we've had in talkback voting in quite
some time, maybe since the inception of the Cinti Shirts
(00:40):
gift card. But nonetheless, you can leave us a talkback
today through Friday. We'll save the best talkbacks and we'll
give away a CINCI Shirts gift card on Friday to
the best talkback of the week. Thanks to Skyline Chili
kicking us off here and our number one, we have
a ton to get to and we welcome you to
join the show today as well. Five seven, nine, fifteen
(01:02):
thirty is the phone lines. Those are open. Well, we'll
talk to you about I'm assuming what you want to
talk about with the Reds our fourth five hundred Monday
of the season, Austin. Yes, those Reds go, Yes, Let's
Reds go here they come thirty three and thirty three
(01:27):
And don't look now, pure mid don't look now. You
know a lot of folks do Christmas in July. Sure,
Christmas could come in June. Tonight if the weather holds out,
the Cincinnati Reds have a chance to clinch this year's
Ohio Cup. Boy, oh boy, Wade Miley will take the
mound for the Reds Ohio Cup on the line. They
(01:47):
just need one and they will call it clinch, Miss
Clinch Miss in Cleveland with the Cincinnati Reds. You know,
the Guardians had that guy John Kinzie Noel. Yeah, they
called him Big Christmas.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Right.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
He just got demoted to Triple A. So now they're
calling him Big Columbus. Oh boy, oh boy. So he
won't be involved in any clench miss festivities this week.
But boy, oh boy, what would it mean to have
an opportunity to bring home some hardware to the city
of Cincinnati for the first time since what I guess
(02:23):
the supporters Shield with FC Cincinnati a year or two ago.
Current forecast for Cleveland right now. Periods of rain seventy
two degrees, chance of rain ninety percent.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
But is Wage Miley.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
But but tonight things do clear up a little bit
clear to partly cloudy, a low of fifty eight degrees
in Cleveland, so it'll be chilly. Wins ten to fifteen
miles per hour, chance of precipitation eight percent. So it
does look like it's going to clear up in the
evening for the Reds and the Guardians because the Lord
shines down on the ioke up.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
That sounds like a Wade Miley special. Yes, mucky conditions.
Muck it up with Miles. Muck it Up with Miles Now.
September twenty fourth of twenty twenty four, off, I remember it.
The Guardians tweeted out for the tenth consecutive season, the
Ohio Cup remains in the state of Ohio. That makes sense.
Hard to even call this a rivalry at this point. Yeah.
(03:20):
There was also photos taken in the locker room hashtag
for the Land with shirts that read Cincinnati is in Kentucky. Yep.
I hope the Reds haven't forgot about that. Oh they
better not. I hope Cincy shirts is brewing something special
up for the lads to wear tonight. That's what I hope. Yeah,
you know, with a chance to clinch.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
The way that Cleveland acted with that last year, I
think kind of took everybody by surprise. It did, like,
wait a minute, these dudes are popping champagne and they've
got T shirts made and so on, and we're like,
wait a minute, did we huh what? And I can't
help but wonder if the Reds thought about that. And
(04:01):
I think there was some comments by Red's players saying,
you know, we don't really think about it like that,
or we don't pay that much.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
You better be.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Paying attention when they are insulting your city and your
fan base and your home. Wake up in the homes
of your fans, you better wake up. And I hope
they have something planned for tonight or tomorrow or Wednesday,
because they just need one out of these three to
win the Ohio Cup. And the Reds, as you know,
tone have not yet been swept so far this season.
(04:29):
They've done a little bit of sweeping, as they did
this weekend, but they haven't yet been swept.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah, red sweep the Diamondbacks over the weekend. We've got
some Terry Francona audio, some Matt McClain audio, and a
Jim Day update on Hunter Green. Austin Wins is no
longer a Red. We'll talk about damn what the Reds
got in return for Austin wins. We'll dive into that.
We'll talk about Chase Burns and recap the wins over
(04:55):
the weekend for the Cincinnati Reds. Also from a Bengals standpoint,
we've got at audio Austin the Vice President weigh in
on Trey Hendrickson. That is an actual thing. The Vice
President of the United States weigh in on the Trey
Hendrickson contract negotiations as he sees it with the Cincinnati Bengals.
We'll talk about that today. I did not think that
on the Bengal card. I didn't think that his analyssn's
(05:18):
analysis of the situation was really all that great. And
we're gonna we're gonna have to talk about that today.
Mandatory mini camp this week. Of course, all eyes on
Trey Hendrickson. Uh, perhaps Jermaine Pratt and Shamar Stewart as well.
It's interesting because, uh, you know, the the the Green
Bay Packers did something today. They released their star corner
(05:38):
JayR Alexander, Yes, and many are saying, Okay, if they
can release Alexander, that means, you know, things are opened
up for the Bengals to release Jermaine Pratt. Yeah, maybe
that can happen, but JayR Alexander is no longer with
the Green Bay Packers. How about this, Austin pac Man
Jones was in the news again this weekend. H that's
all we'll say about that. I believe pac had his
(06:01):
court date this morning. Yeah, you know, it was funny.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
I posted the picture of his booking booking in the
Kenton County jail, and all I said was presented without comment.
I think if you followed me for a long time,
or if you listen to the show for a long time,
you know I don't like pac Man Jones. Sure there's
also some evidence that would suggest pac Man Jones doesn't
like me.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Possible. That's okay.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I just posted it and said presented without comment because
I don't really need to say anything else.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
The guy is, he's a scumbag. He's a bad person.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
And the amount of people on that website, that being
X or Twitter, whatever you want to call it, that
either jumped on my case for posting that or said
free pac Man or all these other things in some way,
shape or form defending that guy that to me is vile.
(06:56):
And you know, pac Man Jones clearly needs help. He
has issues, like serious, serious issues. And it used to
be for me back in the day where I just
hated his guts and I would make fun of him,
and you know, I just couldn't understand why people liked
him so much. Now as I've gotten older, I've shifted
because clearly there is a cognitive, some sort of psychological
(07:18):
imbalance with him. He struggles with alcohol, he's violent, like
he's just.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Not admit good. Yeah, at some point you want the
guy to get help.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yeah, he has a problem, and I hope that he
gets help before he hurts other people again or hurts himself.
And that's really how I stand on it from now on,
Like everybody's jumping on my case for it.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
It's like, listen, he needs help and I hope he
gets it. Other happenings over the weekend, I watched all
five and a half hours of the French Open finals yesterday,
really every ounce of it.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, it kind of worked out well. My aunt took
the kids to do some stuff over my parents' house
and Walkman, we're just kind of hanging out. He had
a birthday this weekends. He was playing with his toys
and I was able to watch five hours and twenty
nine minutes and al Cherez wins it over center. What
I thought was even more impressive is I was watching
(08:13):
all this, you start thinking of other sports. And I'm
not a tennis expert, Austin, but you start looking at
other sports. When someone goes on a break, what do
you do? Take a time out, argue with an umpire
to throw off the opponent's rhythm. No one lost their temper.
Obviously no cheating was done, but you think of other sports.
(08:37):
There are ways to stop runs, or there are ways halftimes,
end of quarters and stuff that happens. Tennis, you go
like this amazing match and an amazing game, and then
you got to pick up a minute later and serve
and then you got a return. So it's incredible to watch.
Congrats to Carlos.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Alcarez, Tony Roland Garros in just a moment. But first
we've got breaking Cincinnati Bengals news.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Tom Pelisero of NFL Network is reporting that today the
Cincinnati Bengals are releasing veteran linebacker Pratt.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
There it is.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Jermaine Pratt ranked in the top ten in the National
Football League last season in tackles and was a team captain.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Now he hits the open market. Now.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Pelissaro didn't mention that Pratt probably could have led the
NFL in tackles if not for all the ones he missed.
But Jermaine Pratt and his five point six million dollar
salary now off the books or the Bengals a day
before mandatory mini camp begins. Listen, I like to make
fun of Jermaine Pratt because of what happened last year,
(09:51):
but that man authored the greatest moment of my football life,
sure when he intercepted Derek Carr down there inside the
five yard line in January of twenty two. God bless
your Maine Pratt, a Bengals legend forever and ever. He
should get a statue one day, and I mean that
for that play. Thank you, Jermaine Pratt. Best wishes bout
Jermaine Pratt.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Interesting to see where he goes and what that looks
like going forward obviously for him, but we have that
question answered so we can scratch that off the list
for today.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
That being said, let's rewind to the Roland Garos aka
the French Open. Oh you said you watched every second
of them.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Every second. You wonder how much I watched? Zero seconds zero?
That's I don't that's insane. What time did it start?
It wasn't egregiously early, no, but just what time did
it start? Earliest question? Early am Sunday morning. Okay, So
I I mean I slept in for one, then I
(10:47):
went to church. Then I came back. And you're a
social media guy. Though everyone was talking about it and
nothing about you. Was like, man, I should switch that
on just to see.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
I'm trying to think of what I was doing that
led me to do it to doing something else. I
was probably doomscrolling TikTok. It was incredible, to be honest,
but I never felt the need, even though I did
see all those tweets to.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Turn it on.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Yeah, it was Uh, for whatever reason, I can't bring
myself to care about tennis.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
It was insane. I tried the drama. The Center had
multiple match points, and Alcaraz fought back, and then Center
fought back. The mental load that both of them took
on and then the individual shots they were hitting was unbelieve.
It was one of the best tennis matches I've ever watched.
The Oklahoma City Thunder over the weekend tied things up
(11:41):
against the Indiana Pacers. Shay Guildris Alexander, come on, he's
the MVP, and he passes Alan Iverson for the most
combined points through his first two NBA Finals appearances in
NBA history. He had thirty eight. In Game one, he
had thirty four points, eight assists, and four steals. As
the Thunder were putting my control all night last night
(12:02):
against the Indiana Pacers, but Indiana did steal Game one,
which means they go back home to Indy now as
that series turns with the home court advantage throughout the
rest of the way mentioned Jai Alexander was released. It
is believed that Nick Chubb Austin is close to signing
with the Houston Texans. How about Chubb and mixing in
the backfield? Okay, what do you think about that?
Speaker 4 (12:24):
That's like it's like the Ohio State backfield last year
with Traveon Henderson and Quinn Shawn Judkins, two entirely different people.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Over the weekend, the House settlement happened in college sports.
A new path for college athletes starts on July first,
as athletic departments nationwide will begin directly sharing revenue with
student athletes following the approval of the settlement on Friday.
What this means, we're not experts on. So we're going
(12:57):
to try to get Justin Williams on this week to
talk about that. I sent a text Justin.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Hopefully he uh texts me back at some point and
he can provide content.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Now with this, there are back pay avenues as well.
Former student athletes who begin competing in twenty sixteen are
eligible for name, image, and likeness back pay. So you
missed it by seven years, Yep, that's awesome. Was fun.
(13:26):
You think there's a way they could take care of you.
I think they could.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
I mean the amount of things that you do for
the University of Cincinnati for free, You think you'd think
you'd think maybe they could take care of you.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Bobbleheads.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
You want to talk about finding a back channel for
some backpack, there's a back channel somewhere. Going to the table,
make it right, Ton'll take some cash. Game three of
the Stanley Cup Finals tonight as well.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Maybe they'll give you a car Boilers. There's tied at one. Uh,
that's gonna happen. A little inside joke for uh the
Major League base Ball weekend that was what do you
make right now? With the Philadelphia Phillies. Oh boy, losers
of nine of ten, and they just got swept by
the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pittsburgh Pirates who threw Paul Skeens
(14:14):
out there, and Skens failed again Austin to get a win,
even though.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
At least he didn't get a loss this time.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Even though he went seven and two thirds, two hits,
one unearned run, and seven strikeouts. His ERA is down
to one eight eight. He's four and six on the season.
But Pittsburgh Pirates do sweep the Philadelphia Phillies and win
for the Pirates their third straight game, but the fifth
(14:43):
straight loss and nine out of ten for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I'll tell you what I've learned about the National League
over the last two weeks or so. I'm not that
afraid of all the people ahead of the Reds. I
think they're all kind of similar teams like San Diego,
I think is a step above. I think they're a
step above everybody else. San Francisco is kind of in between.
They're very up and down hot right now, but when
they're hot, they're as good as any team in baseball. Philadelphia,
(15:09):
I feel like they might have been a little bit
of a fluke if you look you know what, we'd
like to look at Pythagorean right in the expected win loss,
Philly is nine games over five hundred. Despite losing five
in a row, their expected win loss is only thirty
four and thirty one. That tells me they've gotten a
little lucky so far this season. And so you could
(15:33):
also apply that to the Saint Louis Cardinals, who, by
the way, they they along with the Brewers and the
Chicago Cubs all lost yesterday. Yeah, so the Reds picked
up some ground over the weekend. I think this could
end up. I'm not saying the Reds are going to
make the playoffs. It's not what I'm saying. But you
look at the way Arizona played Washington's falling off. Atlanta
(15:55):
is in a dark, dark plass. I thought when Atlanta
got a cunia back they'd be Okay. They miss seven
in a row. They are in a dark, dark place.
I look at the rest of the National League, and
I'm thinking, all right, this could be tight. You know,
whoever goes on a run and again comes back to
the Reds in the National League Central, how do they
perform against Milwaukee, Saint Louis and Chicago moving forward? That
might determine their season. But don't look now. The best
(16:18):
record in the National League doesn't belong to the Dodgers
or the Padres, the Gist or the Cubs. It's your
New York Metropolitans. Me who's swept over the weekend? If
I'm not mistaken. You know you mentioned the Cubs losing.
They lost over the weekend the series to the Detroit Tigers.
I watched a little bit of that. Yeah, and that
atmosphere in Detroit's fun. I'm going up and going up
(16:40):
on Saturday to watch the Red Lakes.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
That is a fun, fun team.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Man, my yearly pilgrimage to Detroit looking forward to that.
But yeah, all three of those games were sold out.
I saw environment was sick and then they had that
one really soft umpire.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Did you see that? So you did you hear the
audio with Niko Horner?
Speaker 5 (17:00):
No?
Speaker 4 (17:00):
So, Nico Horner got thrown out in like the first
or second inning for arguing balls and strikes, and you
can hear the microphone pick up the conversation. So he
gets wrung up on a cald third strike and he
turns to the umpire and says, you're having a really
bad start to this game. Not egregious, not bad. Didn't
curse at him, didn't call him. I just said, you're
(17:21):
having a really bad start to this game, or you're
having a really bad day so far. Ump immediately ran him, tossed,
tossed that incredible saw It was incredible.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
That is Sharman College Baseball. Arkansas advances to the They
win their Super Regional over Tennessee. Arizona wins their Super
Regional over North Carolina. LSU knocks off West Virginia. Oregon
State is back in in the Corvallis Super Regional. UCLA
(17:53):
knocked off Utessay. Louisville is in over Miami, and the
final team waiting right now will be the winner of tonight.
It's Duke versus Murray State Game three. That is the
College World Series update and Austin.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Murray State put up nineteen of them things yesterday.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Do you know what this weekend is? Here in Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
What this weekend is here in Cincinnati Banana ball Oh
that's right.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
The Savannah Bananas, fresh off playing in front of one
hundred and fifty thousand fans over two nights at Bank
of America Stadium, are in town this Friday and Saturday.
A great American ballpark.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
I have never felt like a bigger idiot in my
life than I do right now because I had won
the lottery with the chance to buy tickets to the Bananas.
That essentially is lottery right now, and I had no
interest really in going and I didn't buy them. I
could have easily flipped those tickets and made oh my god,
five hundred bucks. Yep, at least I can't believe I
(18:48):
didn't do that. Yeah, what a fool I am. I'm
interested for folks today.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Are you attending the games, either of the games this
weekend or are you excited? Are you looking forward to it?
Are you still trying to attend the games? What is
your overall interest with the Savannah Bananas coming into town?
Like I said, back to back sold out nights at
a Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte over the weekend.
The scenes were unbelievable, but what's the feel, what's the
(19:17):
vibe here in Cincinnati for the Bananas Week? I'd like
to know that as well. And we have a poll
question out Austin. We have a couple of poll questions
out ton. Our guy PJ got started early. He posted
the poll question for today yesterday during the Reds game.
The Revivefitnesssystems dot Com poll question brought to you by
PJ Street. This one from the hands of PJ Street
(19:40):
himself at PJ Street. PJ s t R I E
T how many games above or below five.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Hundred will the Reds finish the season? Options are five over,
five under, somewhere between five under and five over, or
plus or minus ten on either side. Fifty eight percent
right now say somewhere between over and under five games.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
I think that's right.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
I think that's right as well, and I think it's
going to be tight. You can go vote at PJ Street.
The other one that I posted at audio More you
can find at ESPN fifteen thirty as well. Bengals mandatory
mini camps starts tomorrow. Will Trey Hendrickson show up? Your
options are yes, as he should, no chance or he will,
(20:34):
so he can talk right now forty seven percent say
no chance Trey shows up, thirty eight percent say he
will so he can talk, and just fourteen percent say yes,
as he should. You can vote on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Slash x regardless of what he does. We'll be all
over the coverage here on ESPN fifteen thirty cent Sports station.
When we come back. Let's recap a Ed's sweep this
weekend on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to
Skyline Chile.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
Hey Alexa, who got hurt getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
All right, you can see by just the weather here
in Cincinnati today that it's that time of the year
where you get summer heat and major storms that cause
a ton of stress on your roof and your siding.
That's why this month only, chi Roofing's double play deal
is on book a new roof in siding together, and
you're going to take fifteen percent off the total. Chiroofing
(21:35):
is locally owned and operated by Cincinnati native Rob Montanas,
who's been out of for over twenty years. Trusted and reputable.
It's not a fly by night roofing company. You're not
going to pay a dime until the job is done
one call two upgrades this month with major savings. Call
seven three one roof or visit seven three one roof
(21:55):
dot com to schedule your free estimate today, Chi roof.
They nail it every single time. Hey, do you run
us small? Oh?
Speaker 7 (22:06):
We got it high and beef McLean has put the
Reds on top quar to two.
Speaker 8 (22:12):
Oh what a bomb out of left bit'll we got
every bit of it.
Speaker 9 (22:17):
Hell, Maddy, well you love to see that.
Speaker 10 (22:24):
Just a laser beam home run out of here to
the left field.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Mmm, how's how it sounded Mount mcclaney to run home
run last night in the seventh cees A home run
Jose Travino, a home run. The Reds have yet to
lose this year, Austin when they hit three or more
home runs in the game. I like that idea. Put
that stat out there. We're going to talk about how
they went about this weekend sweep in just a second.
Before we get to that, Austin, I had two things
(22:49):
to follow up on. Charlie Clifford made a point of
this with the Jermaine Pratt and the Bengals departing ways
all four twenty twenty four Bengals captains with defense ties
are no longer here. Oh, Jermaine Pratt, Sam Hubbard, Von
Bell and a Keem Davis Caather. That's true. Something to
watch for the other changing of the guard. It's it.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
And if you think of all the guys who are
here right now, who are most likely to be the
captains on defense?
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Oh, I don't think Trey Henderson's going to be one.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
No, he hasn't been voted one in any BJA Hills
BJ Hill, I would say yes, Logan Wilson, Logan Wilson,
I would say yes, Mike Hilton's not here anymore in
that secondary jam Taylor.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Britt, maybe Geno Stone perhaps. I think Tyson Anderson will
be one special teamer. Yeah, kind of in the a
Keem Davis Gaither role. I can see that. Yeah. The
other thing I wanted to get your opinion on because
we talked about this and kind of get us caught
up here before we can get back into the reds.
(23:54):
There was a big stink made about the way Game
one of the NBA Finals were handled, how it didn't
feel like the finals, The messaging on the court didn't
feel like a finals. Did you see that they tried
to put digital trophies on the court for Game two,
I did, what did you make of the digital trophies?
They did not look great. I do appreciate the effort
(24:18):
they tried. They kind of got bullied by the Internet
into doing it, and it should have never that should
have never had to been the case to begin with. Yeah,
I thought it looked better when they ditched the trophies
and went back to the script finals and put that
on there in place of the trophies. Yeah, that I
thought looked pretty good. Yeah, I just thought it was interesting.
(24:40):
There was a lot of backlash and their answer was
virtual championships on the court just doesn't do it as
much for me.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Virtual Larry O'Brien, Yes, virtual O'Brien, you would think by
now an order has been placed and they will be
able to have something Readyanapolis.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
One other thing, from a red standpoint, how if you
are Nick Krawl, are you spending the cash considerations received
in lieu of Austin Wins. It's a good question because
if there's a team that handles cash considerations better, I've
(25:21):
not found them. Yeah, the cash considerations for Austin Wins.
I can't even begin to imagine what that looks like
it had to be a lot of money. Has to
be a lot of money. The guy's hitting four hundred fame.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
You're basically bringing in an All star correct, you know
again with the way the bostar, you know, the way
the ballpark has been sold out lately. I shouldn't stay
sold out but filled up lately. And he got an
Elli bibblehead coming again next week.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Oh boy.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
So because of that and because of being at five hundred,
and then you get cash considerations in exchange for an
all star caliber guy in Austin wins. I think that's
just Nick Krag gearing up to make a statement at
the trade deadline.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Do they get any cash considerations with the Savannah Bananas
coming in? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I don't know if they'll make any money off that.
Maybe I would assume it got to charge them rent,
don't they got to? I'm sure the county gets a
good chunk of that. Also, the Red should have people
out front collecting donations.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
I like that kind of love that salvation army. Love
that idea, help us get an outfielder ringing a bell.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
I love it. Other pieces of get crawled on this
Monday afternoon, the Cincinnati Reds promoted Chase Burns to Triple
A Louisville Let's go. Not a bad start to the
Chase Burns career. In his eight start stay in Double A,
Chase Burns posted a one to two nine ERA in
(26:54):
forty two innings, twenty six hits, three home runs, walked
just four batters, and struck out fifty five batters.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
It was another brilliant situation from Nick Krawl where he
acted as j cra You know it's he's got so
much still to prove, he couldn't possibly be here anytime
soon now, and then just a couple of days later
he's here.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Yeah. I mean that's just Nick Crawl for you. Get crawled. Uh.
When we come back, we are back on the clock
now we will break down the red sweep of the
Arizona Diamondbacks and what's ahead. We got some audio and
a Hunter Green update from Jim day All coming up
here and our number one since he three to sixty
thanks to Skyline Chili. Thank you for listening on ESPN
(27:35):
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station. This is Jeff for try statement.
Welcome back since he three sixty. ESBN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
(27:56):
Sports Station, a service of Skyline Chili. Jermaine Proud is
no longer a Cincinnati Bengal and according to his latest
ig post Austin, he just posted a picture with he
and Trey Hendrickson in the frame.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
He reposted what Trey posted. So it wasn't just a
you know, he.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Put the little the little drop of blood.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Hendrickson posted the picture of him and Jermaine, and Jermaine
reposted it man, because you know it was this thing
GP money.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Sticker than water? What you own? What they say? How
about these Cincinnati Reds over the weekend Friday night? Now,
this game gotta gotta ended up getting uh suspended and
picked back up on Saturday. But ce S Austin, that
is Christian and Carnacion Strand hit a sixth inning home
(28:47):
run to tie the game. It was then suspended, and
then he picked up right where he left up on
Saturday and the Reds Austin won an extra inning game.
How about that they actually scored an extra inning run
off the that of c e S who hit the
game winner and charted a win for the Cincinnati Reds.
(29:08):
How about that Tony Santion picked up the win, although
Nicklodolo went six strong innings, three earned runs, struck out
four over eighty six pitches. Austin, I swear I keep
thinking the same thing every time I watch Lodolo pitch.
It just doesn't seem clean. He's getting results, yeah, but
it never seems clean.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
It always feels like there's meat on the bone. Yes, yeah,
like there's more.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
He's just not as sharp as he could be, but
he puts a solid start together. Graham Ashcraft was solid,
Pagama solid, Santion was solid. It was a pair of
third inning home runs by Arizona that was all that
Nicklodolo led across. TJ. Friedel got them on the board
in the third with a two run home run. Ces
tied it in the sixth, and then when the game
(29:52):
picked back up on Saturday, the Reds were able to
get the win.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
I was.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
I was shocked, Austin, the fact that they played on
Saturday and Eli day La Cruz was back in the lineup.
Was that not surprising? Yeah? I was.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
I was surprised when I heard the news that he
was trying to get back for Friday. Yeah, because you know,
there had kind of been some I don't know, it
was just kind of strange that the Reds hadn't, like
officially put him on the bereavement list. Sure, we didn't
know exactly what the plan was going to be for him,
but I guess it seems like the plan was always
leave after Wednesday, get down to the dr spend Wednesday
(30:32):
and Thursday there, and get back to Cincinnati in time
for the game. You know, everybody mourns differently, and I
don't know what his relationship was like, and I know
she'd been having some health problems for a long time.
But to me that that was a big deal. Yeah,
to see his eagerness to return to the lineup and play.
(30:55):
And I don't know, obviously how things are going with
his family, and that's his business, but it may a
lot to me as a Reds fan that he put
in the effort like that to come back and obviously
had a flight canceled so he couldn't play right away
on Friday night. And I thought it was Yeah, I
think we did a little bit. We just or no,
not really, because we didn't know.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
We just plane.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
You would think for the guy, you would think, I mean,
the Reds have a big facility that they've built in
the Dominican Republic. There are players and people and front
office type scouts going back and forth from the DR
all the time. So I would assume there's some sort
of relationship, But I don't know how weather works and
(31:40):
international flights. I'm sure maybe it's not as simple as
we think. Either way, him doing that to try to
get back that meant a lot to me as a
Reds fan, and I hope other fancy it that way too.
And it was cool that he was able to get
into the game Saturday and keep that streak alive because
he really wants to play in All one sixty two.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, and he was able to because the game was delayed.
And then the Reds. I think one thing we know
about this team Austin, if they can play almost one
and a half games in a day, they're hard to beat.
Oh Man, because this offense. In Game two, Gavin Lucks
hit himself a Grand Slam, but they started before you
could even find your seats. Freedom and Elie Da La
(32:18):
Cruz walk and then Cees three run home run, and
then Will Bentson walks, and then Tyler Stevenson doubles and
then Spencer Steer drives in a run. Jake Frailey drove
in a run and it's five to nothing in the
first inning. Unbelievable stuff from this offense on Saturday. Mentioned
the Gavin Lux home run, the grand Slam, Tyler Stevenson.
(32:41):
You want to talk about a guy who's swinging the
bat well lately. It's good to see what we're seeing
from Tyler Stevenson. He looks so much more comfortable at
the plate. Matt McClain added in with an RBI as well.
He had a hit on the day. His average is
up to one seventy nine. It's crazy to say his
average is up to one seventy nine, but even hits
on the day. Saturday afternoon, Nick Martinez again didn't have
(33:05):
to be unhittable, but he became that after a little
bit of a blip. Six eight and six hits, one
on run, six strikeouts. Any other takeaways from Saturday's game
for you, Uh no, not really.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
It was just it's good to see what happens when
they hit the ball out of the ballpark.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Yep, you know, yep, and they did so again.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
And even just having the threat of a guy like
Cees that can hit the ball out of the ballpark
and what that does to the rest of the lineup
is just man huge yep. And and you saw a
couple of times when he would come up to the plate.
Pitchers are already extremely careful with Ellie and they've been
(33:47):
nibbling around TJ. Friedel as well. And now when you're
worried about Christian and caronasi O on strand, that's a
big time.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Yesterday's game saw Brady Singer take the mound and gave
up a eohanney O Suarez home run in the second.
Corbyn Carroll added another in the third and that was it.
Brady Singer five innings, twur in runs, struck out three.
I don't think he was particularly sharp, walked three batters.
But Barlow Rogers Santian. How about Taylor Rodgers with twenty
(34:16):
eight pitches over two innings for the Reds. Good outing
for him. He actually gets the win. He pitched perfect
yesterday and again it was the home run hitting. The
Reds managed just six hits, but three of those hits
were home run Cees in the fourth, his third straight
game with the home run Jose Travino in the fifth.
How about Jose Travino, man the game we watched last week.
(34:37):
He had two doubles in the game, he hits a
home run yesterday. He's still hitting three h four on
the year. Good, good secondary catcher option to have. And
then the welcome sight in the bottom of the seventh.
You heard it. There are two segments ago Matt McClean
homering to left in the bottom of the seventh, three
home runs for the Reds. Four runs come across, and
they complete a three game sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks,
(35:00):
who came into the game five hundred.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Travinho just seems to be in a really good rhythm
with where he's at.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
YEP.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Now that Stevenson is back and they just kind of
know exactly how this is going to play out, and
maybe you have a little bit of a better plan
on who you're going to catch and who you're gonna
be facing it when you're in the box and so on.
I think that can be a really good thing for them,
And especially if Stevenson continues the trend that we saw
this weekend and looking more like himself from a year ago,
(35:27):
that also will provide a huge lift to the offense.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
YEP, good to see a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks,
which gets them back to five hundred. Chase Burns is
doing good things now he's in Triple A. Cees has
been awesome since he got back to the club, helping
this team from a power standpoint. Matt McClain hitting the
ball a little bit, Tyler Stevenson seeing the ball well. TJ.
(35:54):
Friedel has been awesome at the top of the order.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
I do have a Matt McClain nugget for you, Okay,
if you're ready for this, please so. In the month
of May, or excuse me, the month of April, Matt
McClain hit one twenty one. In the month of May
he hit one ninety four. Uh so, that's a seventy
(36:17):
three percent or seventy three point jump here we go.
So far in the month of June, just six games,
he's hitting to seventy eight. Again, there's more to life
than batting average. I know that, but Matt McClain certainly
is trending in the right direction over the course of
the last two months and so far into the month
(36:40):
of June. Bang hits in five of his last six games,
including yesterday's home run. Bang Mattie miss saying is what
some call gotta love to see it. How about uh,
we got some McClain audio, we got some Jim Day audio.
Maybe little Tito, let's do that to finish up hour one.
When we get back Sincy three to sixty thanks to
Skyline Chili on sp fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, until
(37:03):
you see KHY Cincinnati make.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Welcome back. Thanks to Jeff Henry there for bringing us
back in angel Ridge waiting on album number two. Still
Cinty three sixty thanks to Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. Reds open up the second round of
the Ohio Cup tonight in Cleveland. Wade Miley is going
to be on the mound. But first let's wrap up
what we know from the Red sweep. We talked about
(37:41):
the recaps and how it happened. Here is a little
Terry Francona after yesterday's win for the Cincinnati Reds talk
about before.
Speaker 11 (37:59):
Better than lose. I know that, and I know tomorrow
come tomorrow, and we need to be ready to play.
But we set out the win today and we did.
And that's a hard game to win, and we had
a couple of relievers that weren't available, trying to stay
away from a couple other guys just to set up
the rest of and like Taylor, Rogers did a great job.
(38:21):
If he stumbles, nothing comes together. But he really did
a good job.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
How about Arnosis Rand guy.
Speaker 11 (38:29):
You know what's he's doing it. He's given us a
huge lift and you know we've tested him a little bit.
He's played some thirds and thirst he's holding his own
just fine. And again he's swinging at strikes and he's
so strong that he gets really dangerous.
Speaker 7 (38:45):
Signs from the plane at all.
Speaker 11 (38:47):
How far end of the day like today, I actually was
thinking that that month. The other was that yesterday. It
seemed like last week. Like I think things like that
really help. When you've got guy, you got your teammates
beating you on the back and telling you where to go,
I think that goes a long way. I mean, I
(39:15):
was gonna say, I doubt if you I'm gonna say,
if you go ask him, I don't think he's going
to be too thrilled. No, it was, yeah, No, he's
he's that's just like, hey, don't turn the turn the
camera off, the microphone fell. Oh, he's just a strong kid.
(39:42):
He went down and got it. I agree, go ahead,
what he saw he uh, he got hit kind of
on the half bicep and then part of that going
towards the tricep or the other way around, and he
politics to stay in.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
I give the kid credit.
Speaker 11 (40:00):
I mean, he wanted to stay him bad. I think
if I'd have been younger in my days, he might
have talked me into it. I just thought, we can't
lose a starting pitcher. And d DJ we we talked,
and it it's the right thing to do. It's not
the easy thing to do, cause guys are competing, but
it it's the right thing to do.
Speaker 7 (40:22):
He hit a decent number of hungers this year and
didn't spread out over a few guys. What what kind
of the differences it may that you have potential to see, Yes,
a guy in.
Speaker 11 (40:31):
The middle of more than that, you're well, I don't
I really don't think it matters who. I just you know,
I mean, when we get Hayes back, that'll certainly help.
And it just spreads it out even deeper and obsessed.
You know, if he's gonna swing at strikes and do
what he's doing all of a sudden, it starts to
get a little more exciting, for sure.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
So you going back to ce, Yes, I know it's
a small sambra size.
Speaker 5 (40:55):
Well, the way he.
Speaker 11 (40:56):
Hit the balls, we can play in the field, like you.
Speaker 12 (40:58):
Said, that's all.
Speaker 7 (41:01):
Anything about the mentality he took.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
With him down into the eye on working the way back.
He showed you something here.
Speaker 11 (41:09):
I don't disagree with anything you said. It is a
small sample, but but I don't ever want to talk
one of our guys down. I mean shooting that. You
know we're here to shoot. Don't want to brag about him.
He you know, he missed and I wasn't here for it,
but I talked to him about and he missed last
year and it killed him. So then when he went
on al this year, he was desperate to play and
(41:30):
we kind of had to stay on him like, hey,
do it right. And it was not that he didn't,
but he was just so ansty he wanted to play.
And I think when he actually got started to playing
baseball games, even on the rehab, I think he started
to enjoy a lot more.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
All right, So that is some Terry fran Cone a
lot about ce S But the McLean piece is interesting here, Austin,
because obviously CS is not going to Homer in every game.
But if you start to bring these pieces collectively together
a little bit more what TJ. Friedel has consistently done,
Gavin Ucks, Elie de la Cruz, if you can start
(42:03):
finding them some help, whether that is Tyler Stevenson, whether
that is Spencer Steer, whether that is at times Will Benson,
or whether that's Matt McClain, you start to check boxes
of a more formidable lineup to add to what is
a very talented starting pitcher rotation already. So obviously it's
(42:25):
good to get those pieces back, but Matt McClain is
such a piece here of the straw that really stirs
the drink for what the Reds are trying to do.
And he's still in the nine hole. And I know
that we're talking about as the numbers Austin, just throughout
a small sample size in June, but you can see
there are signs of progression from Matt McClain and getting
(42:48):
him back to the expected level could do wonders for
a team that has struggled with consistency on the offensive
side of the ball. We do have a couple minutes
of Matt McClain's speaking after yesterday's win, as well as, uh, just.
Speaker 13 (43:05):
A slider over the middle, trying to hit it back
up the middle, got a little out front and went over.
Speaker 14 (43:11):
Yeah, you've you've been pretty us get throughout the season
where it hasn't been exactly which want see you get
a little take up when you started seeing the last
couple of days things have kind of going your way.
Speaker 13 (43:28):
Yeah, I think through it all, I've just been trying
to play the game the right way, go about it
the right way, work hard and uh play hard, control
what I can and knowing, uh it's gonna show up,
but yeah, just try and build momentum small wins each
day and carry him.
Speaker 15 (43:41):
Over because about like the power just has been there
all season, even though.
Speaker 13 (43:45):
It seems like, uh yeah, I feel like it's the same.
Speaker 7 (43:52):
Around the guys in the since maybe if the team
is getting ready to go on the run. I think
you were here two years ago when they got over
right out. Do you feel something similar maybe could happen.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (44:07):
I think wins like that and wins like yesterday, just
wins in general. You can build that momentum and carry it.
But you know, it's about the process and playing it
the right way and have an energy throughout the game
no matter the score. And when we do those things,
the best version of ourselves show up.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
So just trying to control we can to day, a
little thing like that get someone going.
Speaker 5 (44:30):
Get you them, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 13 (44:32):
I mean it was really supposed to be a sack
and the first basement didn't crash, so it was just kid.
Speaker 14 (44:41):
I mean, I'm sure the last couple to see where
he's come back and what he said.
Speaker 13 (44:48):
Yeah, it's what he does. You know, he's a dangerous hitter.
He hits some balls where you're like, how did you
hit that out? I think the first game news here,
like the slider low and away to center field. So
he's a great addition to the lineup and we need
him and everyone knows that down to yeah, yeah, yeah,
he's dangerous. Yeah, we didn't tell you whether your swing
(45:12):
is going good or not.
Speaker 10 (45:13):
You look at exit velocity like if the results aren't coming,
what's still television?
Speaker 16 (45:19):
However, you're you're really good up there or not?
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Yeah, just trying to swing at the right pitches, am
I taking?
Speaker 17 (45:23):
You know?
Speaker 13 (45:24):
The slider that's you know, a strike for most of
the way and then falls off to be a ball.
Am I hitting the mistakes stuff like that, Just trying
to feel on time and get my best swing off
as many times as I can.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
All right. So that is a little insight into Matt
McClain here, and I do think it's interesting his mindset
and and it seems like he is very secure with
where he's at and he knows this as a process,
but again that this is a different level to unlock
if you can get more consistency at the plate from
Matt McClain with the Cincinnati Reds offense. We are done
(45:56):
an hour one. We'll break. There was a little bit
of a gym day up eight. As it pertains to
Hunter Green, I want to have that conversation when we
get back, and we'll open up the phone lines five, one, three, seven,
four nine fifteen thirty. We'll get some of your phone
calls next on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station thanks
to Skyline.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
Chilei WCKY Cincinnati, make us the number one pre set
on your car radio and on the free new and
improved iHeartRadio ad Free never sounded so good.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
ESPN fifteen thirty, Hey, here, run a small bit.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
This is Cincy Shirts Cincy three sixty About Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in part by Cinci Shirts. Cincy Shirts All Cincy,
all Day. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
Welcome back our number two, thanks to Cincy Shirts. Thank
you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Talkbacks coming up here in about fifteen minutes or so.
We'll get your phone calls in just a moment before
we do that. Austin, it was a very good weekend
for the Cincinnati Reds on the baseball field, but Jim
(47:03):
Day offered up a little bit of a Hunter Green update.
Let's play this audio and then let's discuss from there.
Speaker 18 (47:09):
As far as Hunter Green goes, he had the MRI
on the groin area and that came back clean. There
was no further injury to that, but there is a
catch to it. He was experiencing some problems with his
lower back and even into his hip area. They're trying
to figure out if that was related or not to
(47:30):
the groin.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
And this is just me speaking.
Speaker 18 (47:33):
The Reds have not talked about a timetable, but this
time they're going to want to get him right.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
And make sure that he's right.
Speaker 18 (47:39):
I think it's going to be a much more extended
stay on the injured list. He is not with the
team right now, so we'll have to just follow it
and this will be week by week, not day by day.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
All right, that that is less than ideal. I mean,
you talk about what Hunter Green was for this team
before the injury. He was the guy that you look
for in an ace, the guy that will take the
ball every fifth game and give you a great opportunity
to win the game because he's not going to let
the team go out and put up five to six
(48:12):
runs and put you away. He's going to keep you
in it every time he takes the mound. You know,
we talked last week Austin. I believe we said, you know,
it feels like a chance man and even see Hunter
Green till after the All Star Game. That from Jim
Day and the ending there of this is a week
to week thing, not a day to day thing. Without
slapping a timetable on it, I would be prepared as
(48:35):
a Cincinnati Reds fan to go without Hunter Green for
quite some time.
Speaker 4 (48:38):
Okay, So the question is how are the Reds prepared
to deal with that? Because JMB Wade Miley Way, Wade
Miley starts tonight, and I don't think anybody thinks that's
going to go well. He couldn't get hitters out when
he was rehabbing in Single A or in Triple A,
couldn't get hitters out last week when he pitched in
his brief appearance Enters Night. Although at A I'll be
(49:02):
at a very very small sample size with an ERA
of eighteen, he is coming back from Tommy John surgery,
and he's an older player. And so I look at
the promotion of Chase Burns, which, by the way, the
Reds have made official he's going to Triple A Louisville, and.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
The existence or.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
The the the decision not to turn to Chase Petty
that I find really interesting. If, as Terry said in
that press conference, we played at the end of the
first hour, I didn't want to lose another starting pitcher.
What happens if they do right, what happens if somebody
(49:45):
goes down? Is that the promotion of Chase Burns. If
Lodolo gets a blister or somebody has to go on
the ten day, are they gonna just do bullpen games
with Wade Miley, is that the best option. Chase Petty
clear wasn't ready and they brought him up too quickly,
and then he wasn't ready again after they sent him down,
(50:06):
but they had no choice but to bring him up
because they were out of options, and he didn't perform
very well and got his face bashed in a couple
of different times. That in and of itself is probably
why they're taking it very slow with Chase Burns and
understandably so. But is Wade Miley really the answer moving forward?
And what if somebody else gets hurt or what if
(50:27):
Wade Miley just doesn't give you a chance to win,
if he comes out again tonight and gets shelled, how
can you justify running him out there again?
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Yeah, So that to me is the biggest question now,
because I think if you are, if you're the Cincinnati
Reds right now, you feel I think comfortable with Lodolo, Singer, Abbott,
and Martinez. The question that I think is fascinating, what
(50:57):
if you get more of Wade Miley tonight that we
saw last week. What if you get to Waye Miley
you've seen in his rehab starts. If that's the case,
is that why Chase Burns is in Triple A? Is
it back to Chase Petty? Is Graham Ashcraft ever an option?
Because I'm not messing with Graham Ashcraft and what he's
(51:18):
done out of the bullpen.
Speaker 4 (51:21):
So that feels like one of the only options, right,
And you or Ashcraft your continual bullpen games, right, and
you hate putting it out there because you don't want to.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
But Lodolo has misstarts every year. Yours inspires is hurt
right now? Correct? You know Abbot's only started in ten
because he started the season injured.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
So we've seen Abbott run out of gas in quickly
at times, and he had a bit of a rough
stretch his last time out.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
You're you're just you're taxing a lot right now on
the starting rotation. And again, if Waye Miley comes out
and throws and allows two runs tonight, then we'll take
our medicine tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (52:04):
My question is this you just got some cash consideration?
Oh oh, you don't have organizational depth, Trevor Bauer really
at the Triple A or double A level. And I
can understand, even if it might be frustrating, and I
understand why they don't want to bring burns up right away.
(52:27):
Is there a move out there that you can make
to sure up the starting rotation? And can you be
proactive instead of reactive?
Speaker 5 (52:36):
Right?
Speaker 4 (52:37):
Because if somebody gets hurt tonight, let's say Miley gets
hurt tonight, or let's say Chase Petty gets hurt in
a start that he makes this week, then where are
your options?
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (52:47):
And I would rather And then if you are, if
teams know you're desperate, then it makes it even more
difficult to acquire a player. And I understand that everybody
has pitching in I just I'm just fearful that the
starting pitching, which has been a strength, can quickly snowball
into a major weakness and thus tax the bullpen that
(53:12):
becoming a weakness, And with the inconsistencies on offense and
the difficulty of the schedule, this could get ugly quickly. Yep,
not to be a Debbie downer after a sweep. They
deserve credit, But I'm trying to look ahead and be
proactive instead of reactive and think, Okay, if something happens
to a starter, this team is in deep weeds, and
I know they don't want to put all that on
(53:33):
the shoulders of Chase Burns, and I understand why they
wouldn't want to, but it does, on the other hand,
create an opportunity for Chase Burns to be the hero.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Yeah, I mean they're the savior like right now. From
a free agent standpoint, there's not a lot out there.
Lance Lynn Ross Stripling, Marco Gonzalez, Jordan Lyles, Alex Wood,
Anthony Di Sclfani, and Noah Cindergard d Secliffani would be
a Reds move. I've ever seen one. Those are aren't
uh free agents? Give me a starting pitch one more time,
(54:05):
lance Lynn Huh, Ross Stripling, Oh gosh, Marco Gonzalez, all right,
Jordan Lyles, Alex Wood, Anthony Discliffani, and Noah Cindergard. I
know tj antone is does Cinderguard still have like the
hair and stuff? I don't know that was Was that
the guy they called Thorn? Yeah, so he wanted to
bring in but I that to me, it's just to me,
(54:30):
one of the biggest things I'm looking at is if
Wayde Miley gets shelled tonight, what is the answer. It's
just a concern because you can't because that update from
Jim Day wasn't wasn't great.
Speaker 4 (54:40):
And the thing with Miley, like, you can't justify that
to the rest of the ball club either, because to
these young players and these young pitchers, Wade Miley didn't
mean anything to them.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
No, like, and if you're the if you're the starting staff,
you've held things together very well.
Speaker 4 (54:59):
To them, they just see him as an old man. Like,
there might be a couple of dudes here from twenty
three or twenty two or whatever it was that look
at Wade Miley and have a lot of respect and say, yeah,
that's you know, that's dude's pitching a bunch of ball
games and threw a no hitter and blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
But some of these younger guys, they're gonna look at him.
Speaker 4 (55:14):
So this dude hadn't been able to get anybody out right,
and he's old and coming off of another shoulder surgery.
How do you sell that to the clubhouse corralbow surgery?
Excuse me?
Speaker 2 (55:23):
And again, if you give him one start tonight and
he's bad and you move on, fine, But if you
running back out there, the message you're sending to the
locker room is what you're described.
Speaker 4 (55:31):
Yeah, the messages that we are a deeply unserious franchise.
I would rather take my chances with Chase Petty, and
even then I don't feel great about that, but at
least I feel like there's more meat on that bone
than there is on the.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Wade Miley one. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (55:46):
Uh, you love to talk about being five hundred. I
know that's what you strive for as a man, as
a person, as a Reds fan. I got a stat
here for you. Okay, this is by TJ Stats Thomas Nesticoe.
Speaker 2 (55:57):
Okay, TJ Stats on x.
Speaker 4 (56:00):
Times with a five hundred record this season, there are
four teams that have never been at five hundred so
far this season, the Padres, Dodgers, Yankees, and Nationals. There
is one team that has been at five hundred fourteen times.
That's the major league lead. Can you guess who that
(56:23):
team is, Retz? That is the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds
lead major League Baseball in the number of times they've
had a five hundred record at fourteen. Right behind them
the Boston Red Sox at thirteen, Toronto eleven, Milwaukee ten,
and Houston nine. That's the top five.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
YEP, incredible.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
The Cubs, Tigers, Twins, Rockies, Pirates, and Phillies and Giants
all just one time at five hundred.
Speaker 2 (56:51):
For what it's worth, and we discussed it. It's not
a huge sample size, but in TRIPA A Louisville over
thirteen and two two innings, Wade Minley's ERA was at
six and in Dayton for the Cincinnati Reds he pitched
five and two thirds his ERA was at sixteen. He
has not gotten anyone out at any level this season.
(57:13):
If you run him out there tonight and he gets
shelled and you don't do anything about it, then the
message you send to the locker room is we don't
care about competing this year. And if you send that
message to a team full of young players, what does
that do for their development? What does that do for
(57:33):
their ten Well doesn't matter to them. Why should it
matter to us. Let's go get ours, Let's go do
what we need to do.
Speaker 4 (57:39):
As far as the scouting report for tonight, Cleveland is
the seventh worst team in baseball. From a average standpoint, they
just aren't very good. From a on base percentage standpoint,
they're the tenth worst at just three to ZH six
and they're ops on base plus slugging is the eighth
(58:01):
worst in Major League Baseball. So this is an offense
that hasn't really scored a ton Yeah. The league leader
in runs scored to the LA Dodgers at three hundred
and sixty seven. Cleveland is twenty fourth at two hundred
and fifty runs. That is, you compare the Reds and
the Guardians. The Reds are eighth and major League Baseball
(58:24):
over three hundred runs scored, Cleveland just two hundred and fifty.
So offensively, it's not like they're hitting the cover off
the baseball. It's gonna be a big test for Wade Miley.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
Wow, certainly, certainly something to watch tonight. By the way,
those Guardians we love run differential too, Yeah, what do
they got? They're minus nineteen. There are four games over
five hundred, but they are minus nineteen from run differential
on the Reds at five hundred plus thirty eight. But
Thagam theorem run differentials five hundred Baseball Cincinnati Reds. Scott
(58:57):
is calling in from Dayton. Hello Scott, Hello Tony.
Speaker 3 (59:02):
Are you gonna see if you can get in the
Cleveland lineup tonight?
Speaker 2 (59:06):
I'd love to. I'd love to if Cleveland knew, if
they were smart, they'd had me heading up the highway
here in about an hour.
Speaker 3 (59:14):
So I did want to talk a little bit about
your favorite whipping boy, Nick Crawl, and how you guys
have bemoaned what he the roster that he has set
up for the Cincinnati Ran the season. I think at
the beginning of the season, we all agreed that it
was a pretty good roster, right.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
I thought it was a good, good enough to compete roster. Yeah. Yeah,
it was a roster that you're relying on a lot
of the development from the young players. But they didn't
go out and make any home run moves.
Speaker 3 (59:47):
Yes, and well I kind of dispute that Jose Travino, but.
Speaker 2 (59:55):
He wasn't signed to be hitting three oh seven. He
was signed to be better.
Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
Than apparently he was because they gave him a three
year extension.
Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
Okay, yeah, I mean they didn't pay him a ton
of money. I mean, he was designed to be better
than than Luke Mayley.
Speaker 3 (01:00:12):
Yeah yeah, and Gavin Lux. He's been pretty pretty good,
right yeah. I you know, I I just look at
their roster and it's littered with Nikroll's stuff. I mean,
the thing that he's done now, Garrett Hampson and and
(01:00:35):
the other guy that, yeah, Connor Joe that he's picked up.
Connor Joe's been serviceable, he's been okay. Uh, Garrett Hampson,
you know they needed.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
But the threshold of just get a team and with
guys who are okay.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
No, My point is is they've suffered through injuries. They've
had Christian and then Carnassio and Strand been hurt, Jamie Candelario,
all of these guys who have been expected to be
with the team beginning of the season, and nobody could
have foretold that Matt McClain was going to be as
(01:01:17):
bad as he's been. So I guess my point is,
maybe we don't go as hard on Ni Krawl as
it as has been so far.
Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
I hear what you're saying, because I think the additions
of Hayes and Lux and Traveno and Brady Singer have
been quality additions that have helped this team, and without them,
who knows where they would be. But I do not
accept injuries as an excuse. Injuries were a major excuse
last year, and they didn't do enough to build the
(01:01:55):
organizational depth to withstand them. The Dodgers have thirty pitchers
on their injured list right now, and they're still one
of the best teams in baseball, and they have a
rich farm system full of prospects. The Reds don't. They
have basically nobody at the Triple A level that can
come up and actually compete at the big league level
in the event of an injury, and that is Crawl's fault.
(01:02:15):
And they've been building off that for the last four years,
and the organizational depth is non existent, and that I
think is the biggest issue, especially when you supplement those
issues with terrible signings like Connor Joe and Garrett Hampson
and Jake Frayley who has done nothing, and you continue
Candelario is a bad one as well. So, yes, he
(01:02:36):
has done some good stuff and we've acknowledged that. But
I just think that this team could have been in
a better position had they been had Crawled done a
better job backfilling the rest of the organization. The draft
picks have not developed it the way you want to.
They've traded a couple of them away. I just don't
think more than anything, I think the failures of this
(01:02:57):
roster are outweighing the good things that Krawl has done.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Well. Yeah, and I hear you about the Dodgers. The
Dodgers also just took Alexis David or yes, yes, yeah,
they just cam and put them on their rosters.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
So I just don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
I I think we're laying way too much blame at
Nick Krawl's heat.
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
Where would you assess the blame? Because there has to
be blamed somewhere?
Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
Performance?
Speaker 4 (01:03:34):
Okay, so how do you major league players have to perform?
Speaker 5 (01:03:39):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Is that on development?
Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
Is the director of baseball operations. The entire operation of
baseball in this organization falls under him.
Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
But again, did you did you foresee that?
Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
What's McCall? It was going to hit as badly as.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
He is that No, no, nobody did. Yeah, but part
of his job is the development of players.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
Correct, And here we are in June and he's still
hitting under two hundred. Yes, he's had a good stretch
the last six, but the six outweigh the previous fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Well, again, what would you have him do? What should
they do? Should they have sent him down?
Speaker 5 (01:04:20):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
I think so?
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
Well, Okay, I'd rather see him up here because we
know that he's a good player.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
But if he hasn't been this year, but if he's
been not bad and you're running them out that running
him out in the lineup every day. Are you serious
about winning?
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Well, that's another thing, serious about winning? Come on, they
are serious about winning, otherwise they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
I think they're more serious than the Pittsburgh Pirates, but
I think they're far less serious than some of the
top teams in baseball. I mean, I don't think anybody
who relies on Garrett Hampson or Connor Joe or even
Jake Frayley is all that serious about winning. Yes, they're
more serious than some teams, like maybe the Athletics or
the Raids.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
And they're more serious. No, they're not. They're more serious
than the Cubs. No, are they more serious than the Brewers?
Speaker 19 (01:05:14):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
What are we doing?
Speaker 5 (01:05:15):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Say that the Cubs were terrible last year.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Yes, and then they went and got Connor or Kyle Tucker,
who's an MVP candidate. They have developed Pete crow Armstrong.
The Cubs traded for Kyle Tucker. The Reds signed Austin Hayes.
There's there's a difference. The Cubs lost their their second
best pitcher and Justin Steele for the year, and made
more moves to to bring in. Cubs also have a
(01:05:42):
bunch of we're starting wayde Miley tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Yeah, but you also have one team that has box
the Cubs.
Speaker 4 (01:05:52):
The Cubs don't spend. The Cubs don't spend nearly as
much as they should.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Like that.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
That's a team where you can criticize their spending legitimate
and Cubs fans do, trust me. And yet they still
they still haven't signed Tucker to an extension. They're probably
gonna let him go, and they can deserve a lot
of criticism for that, but they at least are going
all in on this season.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
It seems yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
Well I again, I they're there. They have a limited budget,
and I feel like they did a good job this
all season. Are the poster child for the always want
to trade. Uh the White Sox guy is still one,
hitting one seventy seven, right, but everybody still wants him.
Speaker 5 (01:06:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:06:37):
Thankfully that that conversation has quieted a little bit. I
haven't heard as much of that lately. But you know,
ultimately you're right, Nick Kral has limited resources in a
limited budget and that makes his job harder. I just
don't know if he is able to overcome that like
some other teams have been able to do more with less.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
That's my worry about Crawl moving forward.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
Well, again, you mentioned the Dodgers and them being serious.
They just took our trash.
Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
Yeah, because they have thirty pitchers on the injured list.
They're desperate.
Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
No, no, I get it, I do. I understand it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
And and the Dodgers might think they can develop Alexis
ds better than maybe what the Reds have.
Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
But you know they also traded uh Gavin Lux for
Mike Serota, and Mike Serota has all of a sudden
become a top prospect from the Dodgers organization and become
a top one hundred prospect because they've developed him into
a hitter this year, which she wasn't doing last year.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
Luke Weaver was laughed out of town and he's the
closer for the New York Yankees. Fernando Cruz has had
a great season in New York.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
Yeah, well we got jose A Travino.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Fum something that. Yeah, I think it's fair trade. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Scott,
we appreciate.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
It, Okay, no problem, I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
I love that conversation. Yeah. I just the money thing
to me. You know, Detroit from a team payroll, standpoint
has spent a little bit more. They have the best
record in baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
They've also got a ton of their own homegrown guys, yeah,
at the major league level, and also have a still
very good from school farm system.
Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
It's just yes.
Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
And they've also done a great job of, you know,
locking up one of their best players in Trek school
ball and building around him.
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
Does Nick Kral have the same resources as every other team?
Speaker 13 (01:08:29):
Know?
Speaker 2 (01:08:29):
Is that an excuse for not putting the best possible
team together?
Speaker 13 (01:08:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
And if my worry is this, the Reds right now
as we enter play today in Major League Baseball are
seven and a half games out in the NL Central
and they're five hundred. If we're just gonna say, hey,
as long as they middle around five hundred, we need
to be giving more credit than we're missing the point.
(01:08:55):
The point is competing for a championship. If you're playing
the sport, it is to compete for a championship. And
the Cubs put themselves in a position with their offseason
to compete for a championship, as did the other favorites
in the National League. I I can't get behind well
the teams at five hundred. We got to give them
(01:09:16):
credit because that should not be the threshold for success.
That's my concern about five hundred. That's a win. They're
five hundred. Let's take that. You gotta want more. You
said what last week Astin. If your main goal is
not winning a championship, then what are you doing? Yep?
Your talkbacks are next. Since he three to sixty ESPN
(01:09:37):
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, thanks to Cinci shirts. Hey, Alexa,
what's the latest?
Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
He is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 5 (01:09:54):
To the top.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
All right, welcome back, sincey three sixty thanks to sincey shirts.
Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Do we have talkbacks today? Did you hear what I said?
Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
Oh, you weren't in the room. No, I went to
get a water, I said, talkbacks are down? Oh no,
I keep getting this. Uh five oh three service temporary unavailable.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
We have to do library today.
Speaker 4 (01:10:40):
But you know what, like the season veteran, I am,
I found a work around. Come on, so here comes talkbacks.
But do you buy Cincy shirts?
Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
Come on? I got ad out of here. I mean
I can't come in and heard that and I can't
I come in bock my bucket And that sounded like
Carl from Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. Yes, does mixture
send to us this morning? Does not get much better?
Speaker 9 (01:11:10):
Yeah up, guys, pick Cahuna in Kentucky, one of those things
to day number one. Jermaine Burton. He's gonna be like
a free first or second round draft pick this year.
I'm telling you he's going to produce. But he might
know where he's living. Hope he's living out of Burroughs
Pad that Bruce said. He needs to all all get
a wing out there like Antonio Brown and Tom Brady
did last week. Last week, I told you seventeen to
ten and then you got.
Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
The Marlins and the Rockies.
Speaker 9 (01:11:32):
Okay, we're three of those, So you got to go
fourteen to ten over the next twenty four five and
two against Marlins and Rockies.
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
You're fifty two and forty five at All Star Break. Okay. Yeah,
it looks like I'm gonna lose my bet with Bill
gr Yeah. Yeah, that was not a good weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:11:45):
Guys.
Speaker 20 (01:11:46):
It's Jeff, Happy Monday to you. I'm gonna be on
vacation the rest of the week out in Vegas. Oh,
catch you guys on the app.
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
Hire out there.
Speaker 20 (01:11:55):
Hey, I wanted to ask you guys about OTAs and
whether you think kendricks or Stewart get deals done or
what your thoughts are there. Also about green Bay cutting,
I think a safety this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Would he be a viable option here? Let me know. Yeah,
I'll take JayR Alexander for sure, But I don't think
a deal gets done with Hendrickson. No. I hope the
Shamar deal would get done, so I don't anticipate a
deal for either one. I do anticipate Trey Hendrickson showing
up and causing issues tomorrow. The Packers cut a former
(01:12:32):
All Pro corner in JayR.
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Alexander this morning. He has been banged up after signing
a big extension. He and the Packers have not gotten
along well over the last couple of years. I was
told that the Bengals were interested in him prior to
free agency with the Green Bay Packers, But since free
agency and since the draft, even though they didn't add
to that group, the Bengals are no longer interested in
(01:12:57):
Alexander from what I've been told.
Speaker 19 (01:13:00):
A couple of golf thoughts on us Open week, If
you had a choice between playing around a golf with
Tiger or playing around at Augusta, which would you take?
And there's an interesting bet this week Scheffler versus the
field Scheffler plus two seventy five the field minus four
Hundred's interesting?
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
What you think on that? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:13:19):
One, I think that's worth the sprinkle, don't you.
Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
One?
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
I would play with Tiger over Augusta. I think I disagree. Two,
it's hard not to go Scheffler. Three. I did see
that they're all about the matchups at the Open, and
I think Rory and Deshamba are paired up. That's all
the stars two days. But that rough there looks incredible. Oakmont, right, Yeah,
where's that chance? I just California? No, I just looked
(01:13:47):
it up over the weekend. Actually it might be like Pennsylvania.
Oh okay, I think I would.
Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
I think I would play around at Augusta instead of
playing around with Tiger. Okay, yeah, because I don't want
to see Tiger play not much better than me the
way he's currently true.
Speaker 16 (01:14:04):
Monday, just wanted to get your thoughts on Javier Alexander,
the Alexander two maybe being that second cornerback position or
even you know, some death piece there in the secondary.
Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
I think the Bengals should be interesting, but I don't
think they are, and I don't think they'd pay yep.
Speaker 21 (01:14:23):
Hi, guys, hope you had a great weekend. Was listening
to the first half hour of the show there, you know,
waiting and listening to all the sports and everything that
you go through.
Speaker 5 (01:14:33):
But now it's twelve.
Speaker 21 (01:14:35):
Thirty and I haven't heard one word about the women's
College World Series.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
We did that last weekend. Last week guys, we talked
about it.
Speaker 21 (01:14:46):
Oh maybe I'm just calling in too early.
Speaker 5 (01:14:49):
Have a great day.
Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
It was went to a third game, yeah, Texas Tech
Texas won it, and then the final game was a blowout.
Speaker 7 (01:14:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:59):
I kind of forgot it about it because it happened
on Friday night and it was kind of blow up
and all that money. Texas smoked them and then the
woman that they've spent what two million on now a
lot of money got shelled foullas.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Weby.
Speaker 22 (01:15:14):
I'm gonna take you hot. I want you all to
put the word out that way backs are back. Yeah, boy,
uh you know how that could go. Houston Wins is
not back. He's gown Matt McCain might be back. I
got a sound I want to sing to Red's ownership.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Oh half to.
Speaker 22 (01:15:36):
My rone, never come.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
Put the word up. Yeah we back them, Yeah we are,
We back them to five hundred.
Speaker 23 (01:15:49):
Yes, you know, folks loves tough relationships.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
It's all tough.
Speaker 23 (01:15:53):
We all probably have a very toxic X that. You
can probably think of a good moment from that relationship, right,
even though it was terrible. Well you can think of
maybe early on a good moment they did something for you,
it made it major day.
Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
But just today their garbage. That's the same with me
and Jermaine Press. No playoff P.
Speaker 23 (01:16:11):
Some call him more like a free agent P because
he ain't on minmore tackles and get out of town.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Boy, whoa say later? Thanks for the memories. Playoff layoff.
You know who's really happy? Jermaine Press no longer on
the Joseph Osi.
Speaker 23 (01:16:31):
You know who I'm still really unhappy is still on
my team.
Speaker 5 (01:16:35):
Joseph Oside.
Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
Wow man from the Oval office today with authority.
Speaker 4 (01:16:42):
All right, Johnny, A friendly wager for you. I got
Joseph Osai over eight and a half sacks in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Let me know what you think it's Loveland.
Speaker 12 (01:16:51):
Hope you guys had a great weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
What the Reds do?
Speaker 12 (01:16:54):
They have a random sweep yep of a decent team
just to get them back close to five hundred, and
I fully expect them to have an up and down
in June and maybe even July, just to keep things interesting.
Thank you, Jremaine Pratt. We will never forget that playoff interception,
playoff tea.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
He's under a talk. I'll say this, the Cadas were
loud this weekend. I'll say this, I'm thankful for the
Reds from from a show standpoint, I'm thankful for what
they do. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
Yeah, I was riding the elevator up with mister Cash
Dreucy today and he was saying, he was like, well,
you you guys have something to talk about with the
roller coaster team.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
That's right. I said, We're gonna have to send him
a fruit basket.
Speaker 22 (01:17:47):
Hey, guys, call for cleaves real quick. Your show is
great today. I've enjoined it, but you really brought something
that I question I want to ask you is why
hasn't a team taken a flyer on about I mean,
the guy's a starter.
Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
The guy still has it.
Speaker 22 (01:18:05):
It's not like he's, you know, he in legal trouble
when he wore he's actually suing somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
Why hasn't a team taken a flyer all this guy?
I just wanted to hear your opinions. I don't have
the answer, but you know his The Dodgers were a
former team of his, who have had a ton of
injuries at pitcher. They've not taken the flyer. I have
to wonder if no one has what that means, because
right now, the you know, he he's been proven innocent
(01:18:35):
by every account along the way, so much so that
that the court ordered the accuser to pay him money.
I know that he's pitched well in his time in Japan.
I also read an article about the respect that he's
earned of his teammates and opponents. I don't have an
answer as to why Trevor Bauer doesn't have a home
in Major League baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:18:55):
I think the biggest reason is, much like a Colin
Kaepernick or a Tim t or Cam Newton, teams would
just rather not deal with the distraction.
Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Yeah, right, wrong or indifferent? Yeah, Because his last out
in Austin, he he he went nine innings, one run,
one hundred and twenty one pitches.
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
Yeah, seven hits for strike. I know he's been a
little bit up and down. I think this year where
he's struggled at times. And I know it was was
he is he in Mexico or is he in Japan?
Or is he playing in both?
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:19:26):
So I was also told a long time ago. I
don't know if this is true or not, but I
was told there was a fear from major league teams
that if they were to sign him, more accusations would
come out, and so they would restart the entire process
all over again. I don't know if that's true, but
I would imagine let's say that that is true, and
(01:19:48):
then the already the circus that would come with signing
him to begin with teams just look at that and
say he's not worth all that. Yeah, And who knows
how long it would take him to get back to
the big leagues if he was.
Speaker 2 (01:20:01):
It's just.
Speaker 4 (01:20:03):
It's it's tough because of what you said. Legally, he's
in the clear, he's been exonerated of everything, and he's
lost out on a lot of money that he shouldn't
have because of that. So I just don't think it's
worth it. And he also his outspokenness.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Probably doesn't help him, doesn't help him.
Speaker 5 (01:20:24):
Tony be Stick you know who it is.
Speaker 17 (01:20:28):
Hey, sorry, I was him I last week I was
training a movie, just calling in to say, hey, since
I haven't been around, it's looking a little dark.
Speaker 5 (01:20:36):
And gloomy out here and reading no warlers anyway.
Speaker 17 (01:20:41):
I mean, I think I I throw Wade Mildley out
every five day.
Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
Not good.
Speaker 17 (01:20:46):
Don't need him jumping up our wind streaks.
Speaker 5 (01:20:48):
You guys have another best day ever?
Speaker 4 (01:20:52):
Warblers, warblers feast on cicadas, got to got.
Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
TP what's going on?
Speaker 5 (01:20:59):
Guys?
Speaker 24 (01:21:00):
Hopefully you do have to have your medicine tomorrow and
Wave Miley goes out.
Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
Yeah, that'd be great, would be great.
Speaker 24 (01:21:05):
One thing I do remember whenever he was here and
I did hear a story or listen to a story
when he was in Milwaukee, is that he's great for
the young pictures. His leadership and mentorship skills are invaluable
with the young.
Speaker 5 (01:21:20):
Army you have.
Speaker 24 (01:21:21):
Granted, he needs to also put up or we need
to figure out a solution.
Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
Take care. By the way, speaking of warblers, Austin, it's
not about warblers, but it is about birds. We got
a little like gazebo in our backyard. Oh, there's a
hard money. Now, there's a light in there, but there's
a bird nest in the light. Found out this weekend.
It's a cardinal. Oh, four little babies in there have
hatched cardinal. They just that thing just sits on the
(01:21:48):
fence and watches making sure no one goes near those babies.
Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
Cardinals are awesome. Carl malian alone shoots it too. I
would push back on that. I don't know how good Carley,
No way, Miiley is for the young pictures Right now.
Speaker 25 (01:22:03):
This is a public service announcement from DJ Lance McCallister.
Last week's talkback was recorded on the road to Nashville,
so audio quality wasn't ideal. Oh he's back in the
studio now and wanted to make sure it sounds right.
Speaker 5 (01:22:15):
Thanks for understanding.
Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
Oh you think Lance ever listens to our show if
it goes by what he posted last week? No, yeah, Chris,
I don't know why.
Speaker 25 (01:22:27):
It doesn't even matter how hard you try to keep
that in mind.
Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
I design team to compete in due time.
Speaker 5 (01:22:33):
Oh no, it catch is a valuable thing.
Speaker 12 (01:22:36):
Never gonna spend.
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
Don't want to continue.
Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
Trying to hold on.
Speaker 26 (01:22:39):
Didn't even know I wasted head leads just to watch
him go go man, I.
Speaker 14 (01:22:44):
Try so I got nowhere.
Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
My goodness is so.
Speaker 27 (01:22:59):
Part time pipe fuck I brother hoey. You hope you
those doing well. Donald's shocked this weekend. You hear these things,
these slithery little snakes. A lot of people call them
these less wizards, diamondbacks.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
Some people know them as red.
Speaker 5 (01:23:14):
Handle them quite well.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
To get back to five hundred. You know, there's something
beautiful about five hundred.
Speaker 27 (01:23:19):
Maybe it's what our country needs right now, you know,
not too good, not too bad, just five hundred. Maybe
we win this one, the Reds will be back to
five hundred.
Speaker 4 (01:23:28):
Company, make America five hundred again. Yep, like SINSI shirts.
Can you get me a hat? Looks like those red hats.
Just make America five hundred? Make it? Can we say
we might get sued by that one? Make the Reds
five hundred again.
Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
Make the Reds five hundred. It might sue us too.
Speaker 28 (01:23:48):
Long time listener, first time talk back. Wow, if that's
who I think it was that just made the call,
we might need to put money on the Reds making
a run, because the last time we were told to
be positive and be less pershal on the Reds.
Speaker 5 (01:24:00):
They went on a little bit of a run.
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Okay, it sounds a little bit like Nick crawl, didn't it, Scott?
You know last time he called didn't go well. This time.
I enjoyed that conversation. I thought it was a good conversation.
Speaker 26 (01:24:13):
Audi another a plus monologue you had in extra innings
yesterday after the game, and just like the week before,
you were spot on. I give you a nine point
nine out of ten. The way to get that ten, though,
is to talk about this horrid Red's medical staff, doctor, trainer, rehab,
muscle specialists, what have you.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
It's two years, three years.
Speaker 5 (01:24:34):
In a row.
Speaker 26 (01:24:34):
Now it's just a joke, and now it's green. And
who's going to be next? Probably Louder.
Speaker 4 (01:24:39):
Oh yeah, that's the other name we didn't mention in
the conversation earlier. Rhet Louder dealing with an oblique. It's
going to be a while before he comes back. That's
not ideal. I figure we won't see uh Louder until
what August?
Speaker 2 (01:24:52):
Probably not.
Speaker 29 (01:24:54):
Tony Audi?
Speaker 5 (01:24:55):
What up?
Speaker 29 (01:24:56):
Boys, and listen, you guys are totally right. I might
pay at Ohio State, but like I know for a
fact that their football programs trying to win every single year,
like the Reds clearly aren't doing their absolute most to
win a championship. Like, I just don't know what we're doing.
I don't know how people are defending it either. It's
(01:25:17):
all good, let's get after it on a Monday, boys.
Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
I just I don't know if you get excited when
they're at five hundred because they won three in a
row to get to five hundred and they're seven and
a half back. If that's like the threshold, I just
I can't. I can't wrap my mind around that anymore.
From a sports fans STANDPI.
Speaker 4 (01:25:36):
I think you can also mark that kind of thought
process down when it comes to the Bengals moving forward.
If the Bengals go into this year with thirty million
dollars in cash space that they didn't spend yep and
their defense stinks, what are they doing? Then they we
should be all over Duke Tobin for not being an
aggressive pursuit of a championship.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Oh yes, it is c e s.
Speaker 15 (01:26:01):
Let's go right, get that pitching thing figured out. Please
don't start wading Miley, come on when you start. But
I think We're gonna go on a little roll here
all Yes, yes, love it.
Speaker 30 (01:26:17):
Yeah, great tennis Matchesterday. Shout out to Cocoa Golf for
winning on Saturday. Good to see an American bringing home Rogers.
He seems like the antithesis of a Steeler. I just
don't see it working out. But that's good for the Bengals.
Hopefully the two offensive linemen redrafted. I hear good things
(01:26:41):
about him. Hopefully, Coco Golfer out of the time. Awesome
in that final. You know what Aaron Rodgers and Brett
Farv have in common. Steelers yep.
Speaker 27 (01:26:51):
Another turning point of it, Youmaine is leaving the bank.
Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
He picked off card just to seal that playoff game.
Speaker 17 (01:27:08):
A moment edgkin.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
Strass forever in his Wow.
Speaker 23 (01:27:13):
Something was predictable, but in the end is rioting.
Speaker 5 (01:27:17):
Can you help us have the time of wow.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
I'll tell you what, man, I don't see it. I
don't see one beating good. Hey, bar set that is incredible.
The bar was set right there, man, Whine you helped
us have the time of our lives. Man, you know
what's coming to Lee? That's good. Other turning point, getting
choked up?
Speaker 31 (01:27:39):
Man, what's going on boys, Craig and the Creek to Scott,
I have to say we just traded away a quality
depth piece for cash in the middle of a season
where our roster is decimated with injuries and we already
have a lower payroll than the twenty two season, which
(01:28:00):
we lost over one hundred games. There's not a world
that exists in which you can convince me these guys
are all in on winning.
Speaker 4 (01:28:09):
I will say this about that. The payroll thing is
not a Nick crawl issue.
Speaker 22 (01:28:16):
Hey, guys, Paul from Clay's Double Dip with Herey Paul.
I think Nick crawls that he's office right now. Papa
Champagne bottles. I guess they went five hundred probably.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
I feel like the coffee tasted pretty good for Nick
this morning. Oh man, that's my guess. Yep, all right, yep,
that's a. That's a that's a good start. I could
start to the week. Check here, I got three of
fow three of them. You know, if we get three
every day, that's fifteen on Friday. That makes a lot
of sense. I like that math. Get you an injury
(01:28:46):
report when we come back, and then we do have
a few things to talk about as it pertains to
the Cincinnati Bengals as we get into the third and
final hour of sincey three sixty the Monday edition. Thanks
now to Cincy shirts on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (01:29:00):
Until u c Kwise Cincinnati, make us the number one
pre set on your car radio and on the free
new and improved iHeartRadio app. Free never sounded so good,
ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 2 (01:29:09):

becomes a problem. Tri State Mens Health treatments work when

Speaker 1 (01:30:04):
From STEA continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports station.
Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
Welcome back since he three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. It is time for Postman. Today's Postman Law
Injury report delivered by Postman Law Injured Postman delivers the
update we played in the start of hour two from
Jim Day on Hunter Green does not paint a positive
(01:30:36):
picture right now for Hunter Green. Jim Day called it
week to week, not day to day at this point.
Also not great news as it pertains to Ret Louder.
But Austin we should be close to getting Austin Hayes
back this week.
Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
Correct, Yeah, Jim reported on the TV broadcast yesterday and
they showed highlights of Austin Hayes running for the first
time in a while. If you remember, he wasn't able
to put weight on it for a pretty decent amount
of time despite having negative X rays. The belief is
that Hayes will be ready to go either Tuesday or
Wednesday of this week in return for one of those
(01:31:12):
two games against the Cleveland Guardians, which it means what
is the corresponding move? Oh man, you know, I kind
of got dragged on Twitter yesterday bit because I got
Bryce maybe, And Bryce is awesome, Like he's an awesome
He's really really good at what he does, and he
was right in this and maybe I'm a little bit wrong.
But the point I'm trying to make is maybe the
(01:31:34):
return of Austin Hayes means we get more of Spencer
Steer and Gavin Lux and less of Jake Frayley and
Will Benson. I'm kind of cool on anymore Jake Frayley
at bats. I don't believe that Will Benson is going
to be a big leaguer, you know, like, I don't
think I just maybe I'm wrong on that. That's just
my belief. He's in the midst of another funk which
(01:31:58):
we've come to know with Will Benson. A lot of
his advanced metrics would suggest he's onto something, but in
his last fifteen games, he's sitting just one thirty three.
He's not getting on base. His OBP is just one
ninety six, his slugging is only two hundred, He's struck
out fifteen times, and his last forty five at bats
with just six hits. That to me is obviously not great.
Speaker 19 (01:32:23):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:32:23):
And the other thing is.
Speaker 4 (01:32:25):
Will Benson now is approaching three hundred career big league games.
That's a pretty good sample size for his career. He's
a two to twenty four hitter, a three zero nine
on base percentage, a four to twenty one slug I
think that's a good enough sample size. So I'm just
not that big on Benson. I know a lot of
(01:32:46):
people are, and Okay, but you know, if you had me,
if you asked me to pick between Will Benson and
Jake Fradley, I'm taking Will Benson for sure. I'm also
taking Will Benson over Connor Joe and Garrett Hampson without
a doubt. That's my point less of those guys, and
Will Benson being the last guy on the roster.
Speaker 2 (01:33:07):
Basically, he said how many played appearances? Three hundred he's
played in played in three hundred games.
Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
Yes, his career played appearances at eight hundred and sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
OK. Yeah, I mean I don't know that he's an
everyday player because of the left on left struggles we've seen.
But if it's a roster spot between Connor, Joe, Garrett Hampson,
Jake Fraile, or Will Benson, Will Benson would have that
for me ten out of ten times I would agree
(01:33:39):
with that.
Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
Yeah, that ultimately is my point. I just don't think
Benson is an everyday player, That is what I'm getting in. Yeah, especially,
you know, the big part of this whole thing is
over the weekend CS returns that takes Santiago espen All
essentially out of the lineup. Oh Man a right tough
(01:34:02):
to bounce back from h without also allows like Espinol
chance to play second base or something if you want
to give Matt McClain the day off. And you know,
Steer can play first, ces can play third, or Espinall
can play third, CES can play first, Steer can play
in the outfield. Hayes can play in the outfield. Freedoles
(01:34:24):
in the outfield. You just feel better about that I
do than any of the other combinations.
Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
That in large part is today's Postman Law Injury report
delivered by Postman Law. If you're injured, call eight four
to four Postman. Let's switch gears to the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (01:34:40):
Yes, we got to update our Revivefitness Systems dot com
poll questions when we get better.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
We got a lot to do in only an hour
left to do it. Stick with a Cincy three to
sixty returns. Next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Thanks to Cinty shirts.
Speaker 8 (01:34:53):
At ten station East Coast Sun from Cincinnati, sponsored in
part by Penn Station. East Coast had crafted hot grilled subs,
fresh cut fries and lemonade.
Speaker 5 (01:35:04):
It's all about good taste.
Speaker 1 (01:35:05):
Penn Station East Coast Subs order online today. This is
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
Welcome back since e three sixty it's our three thanks
to Penn Station. We've got a lot of Bengals stuff
to get to. Mandatory mini camp getting underway this week
starting tomorrow, phone lines are open five to one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. I do Austin I got to thank my
friends at Penn Station. They came through in a big
way for Walker's birthday party on Saturday. No kidding, Yeah,
(01:35:36):
I got a couple party trays from Penn Station. I
went to the Buttermilk Pike location. Now, good friend of
mine who played with the Saint Savior Golden Bears growing up,
is now running a couple of Penn Stations and they
hooked it up for the family for Walker's birthday party,
which was a big success. Glad to get the first
(01:35:56):
birthday party out of the way. Wow, now you everything
went smoothly? Huh No, because I saw a photo that
may have suggested us. Oh no, no, nothing like some
tears were being shed. Our daughter is normally our our
photogenic one, just anytime there's a photo chance, she's ready
to go. And for whatever reason, she was not having
(01:36:18):
any of the family photos. And it makes it even
worse because they're hard to get with five of us. Sure,
it makes it even worse that the other four in
the photo actually.
Speaker 4 (01:36:26):
Had ature good picture, especially the just the one year
old Walkman, She's just smiling.
Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
She's melting down. Mayor chose to go with two balloon arches,
both of which were beautiful, but Walker was scared to
death of by himself.
Speaker 4 (01:36:41):
I did like the theme. Yeah, I'm fin that was smart.
You could have gotten Rudy the Flyer.
Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
Yep, should have You should have, but the bear Cat
didn't go well a couple of years ago, so I
stick away from the.
Speaker 4 (01:36:52):
Mascots now for birthday party. I do have a question though.
You sent me a photo over the weekend. Yeah, can
we yeah, shout out the voice of the Common Xavier
Fan because you sent me a photo. I'm gonna I'm
gonna post this.
Speaker 5 (01:37:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
So the Voice of the Common Xavier Fan is a
family friend. And uh he got our one year old
a T shirt for his first birthday that simply says
the voice is my favorite talkbacker. Now I respect the
voice enough that he got it in red and black. True,
but uh, yes, the voice is my favorite talkbacker. That's awesome. Yes, fantastic,
(01:37:33):
fantastic gift idea. Uh so, yes, it was a success.
Penn Station helped us out, which the voice was fantastic.
And you you didn't come away this weekend empty handed either?
What are you talking about? You you want a championship
this weekend? I'm just gonna skip out. I'm sure did.
Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
Listen, man, I'm just that's the culture, that's the expectation.
I get the opportunity to win championships, and you know,
I think going into this weekend in my career could
be described similar to that of Drew Brees, where I
was putting up great numbers and I was an All
pro and a pro bowler, and I was right there
in the conversation, but I couldn't get over the hump
sure to win a championship. But this year and our
(01:38:14):
family reunion, paired up with my dad for the first
time and we quite frankly cruised to victory. We had
one loss, it was in the winners bracket finals. That
meant we had to go back to back against the
top team in the bracket, and we did that and
achieved victory got to hoist the trophies. You can check
out the photo of my father and I at Audielmore
(01:38:35):
on Instagram. Please follow me while you're there if you can't.
If you can't as well, that'd be great. But yeah,
you pair shop with your father. Would he have been
the favorite or would you have still been a favorite?
Have you won this before? I haven't you know, I've
been I've been right there in the conversation carry multiple times.
Speaker 2 (01:38:50):
Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
You know, he deployed some tactics that I hadn't had
on my team before, which I appreciated. And you got
to understand, this is not your run of the mill
corn hole. This is like the Canadian football of cornhole,
because there's all these weird rules, like you don't set
back to fifteen and if you're up by ten, you
got to throw with your non dominant hand. Oh man,
(01:39:12):
weird stuff like that. Old people get to move up
and stand in front of the boards. So there's a
lot of moving parts, a lot of things, you know,
And so being able to overcome that together was a
special moment with my father and I and we've got
trophies and let me see about potentially getting a banner man.
Speaker 2 (01:39:30):
Yeah, unbelievable. Sound like everyone had a busy weekend. Yeah,
pac Man had a busy weekend, pac Man. Pac Man
got arrested again. And if things weren't hectic enough, pac
Man around the Cincinnati Bengals Austin. We've had a lot
of people, a lot of folks have chimed in about
(01:39:51):
Trey Andrickson. A lot of folks here locally national media
covering the beautiful game of football, but I did not
have on my Bengo card, Austin. I don't know if
you ever listened to anything Theovan does. I think he's funny.
But one thing I did not have on my Bengo
card was Theovon interviewing the Vice President of the United
(01:40:15):
States JD. Vance, and in that interview, JD Vance offering
up his thoughts on Trey Hendrickson. Now we should probably
work on getting JD on the show to talk about
Hendrickson and the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (01:40:29):
The fact that THEO even thought to ask the question.
Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
We are talking about the Vice President of the United
States on with Theovon.
Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
I mean, there's so much other stuff to talk about,
a lot unpacked. There's riots going on in Los Angeles,
there's infighting between Trump and one of his top advisors
in Elon Musk. There's you know, tariffs and trade issues,
and THEO Von wants to talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Trade and J D Vance breaking down the Trey Hendrickson situation.
Do we have the audio? Yeah? Please, we do. I
apologize to everyone who was about to listen to this
take Trey Hendrickson will get signed. That's a million dollar question.
Or I guess the fifty million dollar question. Are you
all going to subsidize that big that was actually an.
Speaker 32 (01:41:19):
Unknown that's a big part of the big Beautiful Boy
is thirty million dollars to the Bengals to help a
salary cast space. I mean, look, so Hendrickson is work dude.
He's a generational talent. It's very hard to get a
guy like that. It's kind of crazy, how like, I'm
a big football fan, but edge rushers have become it's
almost like we're left tackles where it's in or fifteen
(01:41:39):
years ago, where everybody just realized there's this really underpaid
position that you got to have.
Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
And so yeah, I think we're gonna have to pay Hendrickson.
I hope.
Speaker 32 (01:41:48):
So if he's here's what I'll say to to Trey,
if you're watching the show, if you're a Republican, I
will show up to a Bengals game and take a
photo with you if you sign on with the Bengals,
And if you're a Democrat, will stay the hell away.
Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
Just sign with the Bengals because we got a chance.
Speaker 5 (01:42:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
I keep I say this every year, but with Burrow,
with Jamar Chase.
Speaker 32 (01:42:07):
Okay, if we get our defense and offensive line, we
could have a championship run.
Speaker 2 (01:42:12):
Okay, now here's where I just stop a little short
of what the VP had to say. Okay, he used
the term generational talent. Yeah, and if I look up
online right now, generational talent it refers to in sports,
an athlete who is so exceptionally gifted and impactful that
(01:42:33):
their level of skill and dominance is only seen once
in a generation. It suggests a player whose abilities are
beyond the norm and create a void in their position
when they retire, leaving such a significant impact on that
sport for years to come. Now, I would say that
(01:42:54):
last year, when it came to rushing the passer, Trey
Hendrickson was elite. Sometimes he was dominant. I would stop
short of throwing the tag generational talent on Trey Hendrickson. Now,
I do believe Joe Burrow is a generational talent. Sure
because I watch what he does with what's in front
(01:43:15):
of him at times, and the ability to make a
play when nothing seems to be there. I think that
Joe Burrow's gifts and his impact are football on football
is seen once in a generation. I stop short of
calling Trey Hendrickson a generational talent.
Speaker 4 (01:43:36):
I can appreciate the Vice President trying to compliment one
of the Bengals great players and bring light to the
fact that he is a great player and offering to
come take a pin with that the Bengals should sign him.
I also would not describe Trey as a generational talent,
and I think Trey would describe Trey as a generational
(01:43:57):
great player. The thing that was I found most concerning
about that clip was that he kept saying Bengals. I'm
not ws the Cincinnati guy. I'm not one to argue
with pronunciations, I know, but I am Bingals and also
showing up to a Bengals game and taking a picture. Yeah,
(01:44:18):
couldn't you invite the guy in the White House?
Speaker 2 (01:44:20):
Say give me more yea, make it a little bit
more enticing, invite him to the White House? Yep, and
you know, treat him the same if he's a Republican
or a Democrat. Hey, Trey, no matter what, you're invited
to the White House, we'll celebrate. Please sign with as
a generational talent. Yeah, it's just a little divisive there,
from j D. But it's listen, I'm just I'm just kidding.
(01:44:40):
I did not care less of it. It's just incredible
that the VP he is not weighing in on the
Trey Hendriton contract situation a day from training Guy Mandatory camp.
Speaker 4 (01:44:48):
I do give JD some credit because he's always wearing
Bengals gear. He is always not afraid to uh to
uh to show the Bengals some love there, So that
is pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
It's just again, there are things you think that one
day you might hear in things that you don't, and
that's one I didn't think I would hear. No, I
think of everything, I mean, you think of everyone that's
weighed in, I didn't think we'd hear from the VP
breaking down the contract situation for Trey Hendrickson and the
Cincinnati Bengals. Now, he very knowledgeable, talked about the old line,
(01:45:20):
talked about how bad the defense was last year. He
knows what he's talking about. The greatness of Joe and
the greatness of Jamar. But at the end of the day,
generational talent is not something to just throw around.
Speaker 5 (01:45:31):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:45:31):
When I used to produce actual news UH talk shows
here in the last several years. J D was a
pretty common guest on a couple of shows when he
was in the Senate, to the point where I have
his phone number. Yeah, should I read? First of all,
I doubt this still works, But should I reach out
(01:45:51):
and say, hey, Jade, you want to come on?
Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
Heard you with THEO, Heard you with the Field? Do
you want to get you want to get sports talk show?
I want to get your take on Trey and maybe
the impact of losing Jermaine Pratt interesting? Do you think
the Shamar Stewart deal will get done?
Speaker 4 (01:46:07):
If I sent that text, there'd probably be black SUV's
pull up outside right now.
Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
Say listen, Pal, I mean, let's leave the Vice president Jone.
I'm looking. I'm looking just kind of recapping the weekend
from a Cincinnati Bengals standpoint. We've got a conversation about
Zack on the hot seat, We've got pac Man arrested,
the Vice president's talking about Trey Hendrickson. I mean, there's
a lot going on around the Bengals, and we got
(01:46:32):
mandatory mini camp tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:46:34):
Oh boy, Bucale list. We're supposed to hear from Joe
Burrow tomorrow. Oh, I don't know if we're going to
be able to carry it or not. That part is
still a little bit up in the air. But we
will have some information. I figure we'll learn a little
bit about who has or has not reported now they're
already there.
Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
Today was a big media day. Yeah, you may have seen.
Speaker 4 (01:46:55):
The Bengals posted some video of Joe Burrow doing big
photo shoot video shoot. Shamar Stewart, by the way, it's
all that posted on his Instagram picture of his jersey
and the shoulder pads we mentioned earlier. The Trey Henderson
posted a photo of him and Jermaine Pratt together playing
on the field. I believe that was down in Jacksonville
in that Monday night game a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:47:19):
So a lot of stuff going on. Mandatory Mini camp
is essentially shut out to theo von for asking this. Yes,
Mandatory mini camp itself is essentially a three day period
during the offseason where all players must attend. It is uh,
it's this short period before summer break before training camp
(01:47:43):
that again, the main purpose is more intense training evaluation,
getting a new system installed and giving a coaching standpoint
to see how players are kind of integrating what's been happening.
The new system, the playbooks that they've received, go and
(01:48:04):
put that on display on the field. So again not
a grueling week three days, but it is mandatory. You
are asked to attend and if you're not, we know
based on a text message between Zach Taylor and Trey Hendrickson,
you can be fined. So what those fines come out to?
(01:48:28):
Eight of these sports actually did this What those fines
come out to. If you miss day one, you miss
seventeen thousand, four hundred and sixty two dollars your fine.
If you miss day two that doubles to thirty four,
nine hundred and twenty five and if you miss three
days that is fifty two thousand, three hundred and eighty
(01:48:50):
one dollars. Meaning if Trey Hendrickson does not show up
all week, he will miss out on one hundred and
four one thousand dollars or he will be fine one
hundred and four than seven hundred dollars.
Speaker 4 (01:49:02):
Now keep in mind this isn't the Bengals rules. This
is the the or I should say, the Bengals rules.
This is the rules put in place by the Players Association,
negotiated and collectively bargained with the National Football League.
Speaker 2 (01:49:18):
So before everybody wants to yell at the Bengals, it's
not them. So in this story from Agency Sports, it
says no one is expecting Hendrickson to roll into Cincinnati
for mini camp, so his camp has likely already accounted
for the incoming loss. Are you as steadfast as this
(01:49:41):
article saying that no one is expecting Hendrickson to roll through?
I kind of think he's uh.
Speaker 4 (01:49:46):
I think I kind of think he's gonna show up, yeah,
and just be a thorn in the side it Maybe
he shows up and says nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:49:53):
Even if he says nothing, if he's not doing anything,
he still becomes the distraction, which ultimately, if I'm his camp,
that's probably I want him to do.
Speaker 6 (01:50:00):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:50:00):
Think about one hundred and four thousand dollars, I mean,
obviously Trey has been so grossly underpaid for the last
couple of years. What about his family? You know that
he could put his son through college? Then what Yeah,
it was one hundred and four thousand dollars? Then what
(01:50:21):
poor guy?
Speaker 2 (01:50:24):
Wouldn't you like to know?
Speaker 4 (01:50:25):
Wouldn't you like some stability to know you're gonna get
your hundred, You're not going to lose one hundred and
four thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
Come here, don't say a thing, don't do a thing,
just be here. Especially with the market, maybe a thousand.
Maybe he could ask JD some questions about the market.
Maybe he can invite JD Vance out to a mandatory
mini camp practice and they can talk while the other
team other players practice. Here you go and talk about
a distraction being created. Yeah, but I think it's interesting.
(01:50:51):
I believe it's also part of our Revive Fitnessystems dot
Com pole question today.
Speaker 4 (01:50:55):
It sure is tone Revivefitnessystems dot com. Go check out
coach PJ.
Speaker 2 (01:50:59):
Street.
Speaker 4 (01:50:59):
Get you self ready for the summertime. It's pretty simple.
With mandatory mini camp starting tomorrow, will Trey Hendrickson show up?
Forty nine percent say no, change no, maybe nah. Thirty
five percent say he will so he can talk. Fifteen
percent say yes, as he should.
Speaker 2 (01:51:18):
And at PJ.
Speaker 4 (01:51:20):
Street posted one yesterday, how many games above or below
five hundred will the Reds finish the season? Sixty seven
percent say somewhere between five games over.
Speaker 2 (01:51:31):
Or five games under.
Speaker 5 (01:51:33):
There it is.
Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
There, you have it.
Speaker 4 (01:51:36):
I just see here, Tom just I know we're wrapping
up the segment and who knows what we're going to
talk about next.
Speaker 2 (01:51:42):
Please.
Speaker 4 (01:51:43):
Seventy nine overall is the Cincinnati Bearcats rating in college
football twenty six in CAA college football twenty six, oh
Man seventy five on offense, seventy four on defense. Your
immediate reaction Toledo has the same overall ranking. Well, Toledo
(01:52:03):
is a good program. Toledo's probably top to bottom of
a better football school than you see. That's a joke, everybody,
I'm kidding. That's a joke. That's crazy, that's a joke.
Seventy nine is just disrespectful.
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Okay, are you Are you at all involved in the
unveiling of the new uniforms? No, No, I got nothing.
You haven't seen them. I know nothing about them. Okay.
I know, uh, I believe coming up in the next
ten days or so. I don't have the exact date
in front of me. I know that it's the grand
opening of the indoor practice facility. I know that's a
(01:52:38):
big deal coming up. I think they'll do it at
the same time probably that kind of makes sense. That's
probably when they're going to announce the Hall of Fame
class and everything too.
Speaker 22 (01:52:45):
True.
Speaker 2 (01:52:46):
A lot of things true, A lot of things going on.
But you see these really cool clips that I'm in
from this from the five to one to three stuff too.
Huh Yeah, I'm sure they interview clips emptied. Anyway, we
pay that we're talking about with this house settlement. So
I'm saying they find ways to pay you some money,
I think. By the way, speaking of college athletics and backpay,
(01:53:09):
Justin Williams is confirmed to join us at one o'clock
on Wednesday, Hollywood. Justin Williams, big time college football writer
for The Athletic. Excited to talk to Justin on on
Monday on Wednesday because he helps make sense of those Yeah,
so if you're wondering, like, man, they haven't really talked
much about the house sentiment, that's a big thing. Yeah,
we're just going to bring in an expert to do so. Yeah,
(01:53:30):
we're gonna do it on Wednesday while the Red's probably
rest their guys after when the Hard Cup. You're right,
it might be a two day rest period. It could be,
you know, how they can get down in Cleveland when
we come back. There is a there's an article we're
going to dive into that talks a little bit about
Zach Taylor oh, I have questions. We also need to
(01:53:53):
find some answers next, along with your phone calls five
one three set at Cincy three to sixty thanks to
Penn Station. On ESPN fifteen thirty, Lowegar reality is they're
probably not good enough. He dissects the local sports scene.
They're not consistent enough.
Speaker 6 (01:54:08):
The way up fourth grader dissects across not reliably Moeger.
Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:54:16):
The Superior Game meets back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati's
Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:54:29):
Welcome back. It is since E three sixty. You're listening
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of
Penn Station. I have a Zach Taylor question that we're
going to dive into before that. Did you see this
status update from the Cleveland Cavaliers Austin from an injury
to Darius Garland. I did not. I just have a
(01:54:50):
quick question about this because I have not read this before.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland underwent successful surgery today to
repair his great toe injury. Is the great toe essentially
the big toe? I'm assuming I've never heard it called
the great toe. I haven't because if this said to
repair his big toe, I get it. Yeah, we're saying
(01:55:13):
repairing his great toe injury. Is it like the greatest
toe injury in the world. Well, that's a good question.
Speaker 4 (01:55:18):
What determines great because I know a lot of people
got claws down there right, Yeah, middle toes?
Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
Is it like man Darius got nice toes? He had
surgery on his great toe? To what's a great toe injury?
Is it the longest toe? Because I don't know people
that it's a great question. We have as expected to
take four to five months, so this must be a
greatness thing. Yeah. I found out a little confusing from
the Cleveland Cavaliers as I was reading through some stuff.
(01:55:46):
Best wishes to Darius. I hope Darius is doing okay.
We'll get some phone calls in just a moment.
Speaker 21 (01:55:51):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:55:52):
Ten NFL coaches on the hot seat entering the season.
This was posted by Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus.
These He doesn't list the coaches in any particular order,
He just gives ten that are on the hot seat.
I'll read you the ten. Raheem Morris, Todd Bowles, Mike Tomlin,
(01:56:17):
Jonathan Gannon, Brian Callahan, Zach Taylor, Kevin Stefanski, Brian day Ball,
Shane Steichen, and Mike McDaniel. These are his ten coaches
that are on the hot seat, and he says this
of Zach Taylor. Zach Taylor, the Bengals went nine to
eight and twenty four, a record many teams would have
(01:56:37):
loved to have reached. But considering the talent on the
roster and a waning championship window, it feels like a
proven year for Zach Taylor. The Bengals core isn't getting
any younger or cheaper, and key pieces such as Hendrickson
may not have much time left in Cincinnati. After two
straight nine and eight finishes, it feels like Taylor will
need to at least make the playoffs this year to
(01:57:00):
retain his job. Let's start with that statement at the
end in itself, that Zach Taylor will have to least
make the playoffs to retain his job. Do you feel
it's at that point in Cincinnati?
Speaker 13 (01:57:13):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:57:13):
I don't think that that's how the organization feels because
I feel like if they were to underachieve this year
and miss the playoffs, well, then it's an off season
where the seed is very uncomfortable.
Speaker 4 (01:57:22):
I think if it's like they if they win six games,
then yeah, he's probably canned. But if they missed the
playoffs and are eight to nine, nine and eight like
they were a year ago, I don't know that that's
no if I don't know that that would be enough
for Mike Brown to pull the trigger.
Speaker 2 (01:57:41):
No, I don't. I don't think that it would pull
the trigger. But if they went nine and eight, missed
the playoffs, I think the conversation that we would have
for much of the offseason would be about Zach Taylor's job.
Now we've already talked this year, Austin. What if they
start one to three this year? Is there an n
seat he's in scenario where he's on the hot seat.
Speaker 5 (01:58:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
I think he starts the season on the hot seat. Yeah,
I really do. And if he does, then I genuinely
think you got to get to the playoffs. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:58:13):
Out of the coach with the whole, the whole fast
started thing, correct, that makes a huge, huge difference out
of all the coaches on this list.
Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
Obviously, Brian Callahan is in year two. They get cam Ward.
They also went and got Kevin Zeitler and Dan Moore,
Junior to help the pass blocking Jonathan Gannon with Arizona,
Tomlin Bowls, Raheem Morris, cal Stefanski, day Ball, Stichen and
Mike McDaniel. Which of those is the hottest seat? Probably
(01:58:41):
day Ball, I think it's McDaniel. McDaniel I think a
little bit too. I don't know how patient Stephen Ross
will be there, but just feels like the shine has
come off.
Speaker 4 (01:58:51):
Yeah, Mike mcdanie agree with that, And they've spent a
lot of money on a lot of players between I
think Jalen Ramsey's on his way out and Tyreek Hill
obviously with John Smith has been talked about, built up
the offensive line and rebuilt it. Yeah, I would say
McDaniel is up there for sure. Stichen is interesting. I
(01:59:11):
don't know what that looks like with you know, the
Colts just announced the transition of ownership today to the
three daughters of Jim Mersey, so I'm not sure exactly
what that would look like. I would assume that you know,
the GM there, Chris Ballard is as much on the
hot seat as anyone else, But I don't know how
(01:59:33):
that you know that the death of Jim Mersey changes
things for the Colts Jonathan Gannon is interesting too because
it feels like they're going in the right direction. They're
just moving really slow.
Speaker 2 (01:59:43):
Yeah, and I don't know how much time you have
to move slowly in today's world of sports. But interesting nonetheless. Uh,
let's take a break, let's come back. Mark is waiting
to talk to us. We'll take his phone calling yours
if you would like. Five one, three seven thanks to
Penn Station on the Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen
(02:00:04):
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Tony Pike with.
Speaker 1 (02:00:06):
Tri State men'sh three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati's Sports Station. It's time for Cincy three sixty on
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
That means, uh, yeah, Mullagger is with us, getting ready
for the Moeggars Show on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Hi,
mol how are you doing good? How are you?
Speaker 27 (02:00:26):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:00:27):
Wonderful? What do you got coming up on the Big
Monday Show?
Speaker 31 (02:00:30):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (02:00:30):
I'm gonna do the sports talkie thing where I have
to compare the Cincinnati Reds to Jermaine Burton.
Speaker 2 (02:00:35):
Oh okay, okay, my wires are crossed right now. I'm
trying to figure that out.
Speaker 10 (02:00:43):
Austin Zachs, Sin's on board with me today, audi running
the show this out? Okay, Yeah, so he gets a
front row seat for that incredible sports take.
Speaker 2 (02:00:52):
Has he worked out any type of Jermaine Pratt tribute
video that you'll be playing?
Speaker 10 (02:00:56):
We should do a Jermaine Pratt tribute because Jermaine Pratt
was a very good Cincinnati Bengal. He did not have
a very good this past season. Yeah, and I've got
stats that proved that Jermaine Burton, Jermaine Burton, Jermaine Pratt
was better than you think. He did more than just
pick off Derek Carr in that playoff game against the Raiders,
which was obviously awesome. He did so much more than that,
even if he didn't do any of it in twenty
(02:01:18):
twenty four. So we're gonna spend some time with that.
You know, we have a house settlement or guess what,
Joe college football fan, You're about to pay a lot
more money for your tickets. Yep, our guy, Justin Williams
is going to explain what does all of this mean.
He is going to join us at three forty. I
think it's a really good thing and I'm not the
first person to say this by any stretch. If you're
a Xavier men's basketball fan, the house settlement's a really
(02:01:40):
good thing because you don't have football to worry about.
Speaker 2 (02:01:43):
Yeah, so Big East gets a leg up, Big.
Speaker 10 (02:01:45):
East gets a lag up, which all these SEC people
complaining about something that they had a major hand in
making happen. Right, they emphasize football to the degree that
it kind of made all the other sports not matter.
And now you have a league that can take advantage
of a financial advantage in men's basketball, and SEC people
are honked off.
Speaker 2 (02:02:04):
I like it when SEC people are honked off. Honked off.
I like to say honked off on the air.
Speaker 4 (02:02:09):
To be clear, are you connecting the dots between Jermaine
Burton and the Reds or Jermaine Pratt Burton?
Speaker 10 (02:02:15):
Okay, let's let's make this discision. Get off Jermaine Burton,
Reds take Jermaine Pratt tribute?
Speaker 2 (02:02:22):
Gotcha? Yes? What will you do to commemorate the Austin wins?
Speaker 5 (02:02:27):
Time?
Speaker 2 (02:02:28):
And what to do with those cash considerations they will
have received? Well, when do the Reds play the should
still be in Oakland A's that's a good question. Yeah,
I mean, there's a big schedule right over there that
I can see. It's after the Bananas because they'll get
cash considerations from Bananas this weekend.
Speaker 4 (02:02:46):
It is September fourteenth, fifteenth six or September twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth,
and those games are here, correct, they are in Sacramento. Oh,
they're in Sacramento. So we're gonna maybe have to wait
until Austin Wins comes to town next year with whatever
team he is playing for.
Speaker 2 (02:03:01):
But cash considerations for this team, why do they call
them cash considerations? No idea? Why don't they just call
them money? No idea? Like I didn't pay cash considerations
for my house. I paid money cash because the other
team gets to consider how much they'll give him consider
the cash. What do you make of tonight? Obviously is
(02:03:21):
the Ohio Cup? Well, yeah, and one would wonder if
they win tonight, do they rest everyone tomorrow because of
how they'll celebrate. Member Cleveland made a big deal out
about this Cincinnati's in Kentucky. I remember the shirts.
Speaker 10 (02:03:34):
I remember all of that, which, by the way, I
still don't understand why that's supposed to be funny. Really,
I don't need what's wrong with Kentucky, but in a
clinching opportunity, Wade Miley takes the mound. Yeah, this is
an interesting start for a team now that sounds like
they're gonna be without Hunter Green for a while.
Speaker 2 (02:03:48):
What you do with that extra spot in the rotation.
You certainly weren't impressed by his relief work last week.
It's a big starting, very interesting for the Reds tonight.
Speaker 5 (02:03:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (02:03:56):
I mean, he's not going to be Hunter Green at
his best. He can't be what he was in that
game on Wednesday. I gave him a pass and he
even said, look, dude, I was on the mound in
a big league game. What I was throwing and what
I was doing didn't matter as much. And that's all
well and good. I just I feel like he's been
around long enough and he knows what he knows about
himself well enough that he's just going to find a
(02:04:18):
way to figure it out. The good news is the
bullpen has recently been really good and they've got some guys.
Ces's back, or, as Barry Larkin calls him, says, he's
starting to hit a little bit, which is more than
a little bit, which is really good. But you're right,
like if the Wade Miley thing fails, then his plan
b Chase Burns, who they just promoted to treble a right,
and who doesn't want to see that? But if not
(02:04:41):
Chase Burns, if Wade Miley doesn't work out and we're
waiting forever for Haunter Green to come back, well then
then what.
Speaker 2 (02:04:47):
Do you got? Correct?
Speaker 4 (02:04:48):
Do you guys want to know the lineup for tonight's
Ohio Cup showdown? Or TJ Friedo leads off and plays center.
Gavin Lux bat second, He's the dh Ellie d la
Cruz is the sh shortstop, batting third. Cess is batting
fourth and playing first base. Tyler Stevenson bats fifth and catches.
Will Benson is the sixth batter and left fielder. Santiago
(02:05:09):
Espinal bat's eighth, seventh and place third. Jake Frehley is
the right fielder and eighth batter, and Matt McClain bats
ninth and place second.
Speaker 10 (02:05:21):
Coming off a big day for Matt McLain yesterday, Big
Reds and Guardians.
Speaker 2 (02:05:27):
Cess, are you planning at any time this week to
get the Vice president on to break down the Trey
Hendrickson contract situation? And would you describe Trey Hendrickson as
a generational talent. No, he's a very good football player.
Speaker 10 (02:05:39):
Uh No, I'm I'm we have no politicians role in
our show, so I don't want to violate that, but
I do. I don't think the Bengal should find Trey
Hendrickson if he doesn't come.
Speaker 2 (02:05:49):
Really, you think he'll be here? I'd be surprised if
he is, wouldn't you. Yeah, I think so. I kind
of expect him to show up. Do you think he
shows up and then like decides to make a spectacle
of himself. Now I think he shows he shows up.
Speaker 4 (02:06:04):
I think he shows up and does the Jesse Bates
Jamar Chase doesn't say a word.
Speaker 10 (02:06:10):
Maybe, I mean, I think at this point that would
be better for him. But if he doesn't show up,
I don't think the Bengals should find him.
Speaker 2 (02:06:18):
Brady Locker of Pro Football Focus listed Zach Taylor as
one of ten coaches on the hot seat going into
this year. I agree with that. If they missed the playoffs,
are you moving on from Zach Taylor? Well, I mean
you would need some context, but probably yeah. I mean,
if if the season plays out like last year, you
only get so many chances to overhaul your coaching staff,
(02:06:39):
and this was Zach's chance. If it works, he's going
to get a world of credit, and chances are is
going to be the coach here for a very long time.
But if if you get another outstanding season from Joe
Burrow and you're still on the outside looking in, yeah,
with where that window is, I think most smaller at
that point would would remove their head coach. And so, look,
(02:07:02):
it's twice during Zach Taylor's tenure they have talked about
his employment. I mean, it was up for discussion at
the end of the twenty twenty season, as much as
nobody wants to acknowledge that, and it was up for
discussion at the end of this past season, although I
think it was a brief discussion. I don't know how
now Again, like if Burrow misses a whole bunch of games,
(02:07:24):
and you know, there's circumstances kind of beyond anybody's control,
that's one thing. But if the season plays out the
way it did last year this year, and that performance
last season cost a lot of people their jobs, how
does it not cause Zach his this go round?
Speaker 3 (02:07:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:07:40):
So yeah, I fully believe he's on the on the
hot seat. Darius Garland had successful surgery on his great toe.
Is the great toe? The big toe? I think so.
I've never heard it called that. Yeah, Cavs called it
the great toe in their press release today, the great toe,
the great toe, successful surgery on his great toe. He's
going to miss some time to start the season, four
(02:08:01):
to five months for Darius Garland. Next, don't have a
coach yet, no zeroing in on anybody.
Speaker 10 (02:08:06):
Apparently they're going to try to get Jason Kidd, who's
already got a job.
Speaker 2 (02:08:10):
Oh, there's apparently mutual interest.
Speaker 5 (02:08:11):
Ok.
Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
I was Jason Kidd. I wouldn't want to work with
Nico either. Yeah. Why they got Cooper Flag.
Speaker 4 (02:08:16):
He didn't look too thrilled about the Luca trade, although
he had to sign off on it.
Speaker 2 (02:08:20):
Whatever, Sure they got Cooper Flag coming. Generational talent, also
true generational talent. It feels like the Knicks did this
without kind of a yeah. Normally, if you're going to
pull the plug on a coach that just went to
the Eastern Conference finals, you got a guy ready to go.
How about the way ESPN and NBA have covered the
NBA Finals, Well, they got those those graphics now on
the TV of the O'Brien so bad.
Speaker 10 (02:08:44):
Is there anything worse than that halftime show? Eleven minutes
of commercials and three minutes of four people just screaming
over each other.
Speaker 2 (02:08:51):
Yeah, it's not been a great whole to this point.
What are we doing? Awful? This is the NBA finals, man,
Well this.
Speaker 10 (02:08:58):
Was since he three to sixty. You watch the Stanley
Cup final like it's good, feel a big thing. Yeah,
I learned about hockey when I actually take me the
casual fan and like teach me stuff. Yep, novel concept.
Speaker 2 (02:09:11):
I guess he did that phenomenally.
Speaker 10 (02:09:14):
French Open with the French Open men's and women's finals
were both awesome. Brian Anderson is terrific. Their coverage springing
in newer people like Caroline Wose Niyaki and Lindsay Davenport
was just top notch.
Speaker 7 (02:09:26):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:09:27):
That was awesome, phenomenal stuff. Mowager's next ESPN fifteen thirty,
