Speaker 2 (00:00):
Cincy three to sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in
part by Skyline Chile as stop by Skyline Chili for
a three way or cheese coney today. Feeling good, It's
Skyline Time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Good afternoon, Happy Happy Monday. Welcome to the latest edition
and a new week of Cincy three sixty. Of course
you're listening right here on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
Station or via the iHeartRadio app. If you're listening via
the app, leave us a talkback. Those will be played
in hour number two. And uh, if you possess the

(00:43):
best talkback today, you can be in the running for
a Sinci Schurch gift card, which is going to happen
on Thursday this week because Friday is obviously the fourth
of July holiday, so a short week, which means we
got a lot to cram in. And that became a
little bit fuller here this because there's all kinds of
action happening in the National Football League. Let's get right

(01:05):
into it. The phone lines will be open five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We will dive into more of the NFL
and our number three. We'll get obviously what the Reds
did here in our number one with your phone calls.
But uh, big news happening earlier today. It certainly relates
to the Bengals in the AFC North, the Pittsburgh Steelers,
via a trade with the Miami Dolphins, where Pittsburgh gave

(01:29):
up Minca, Fitzpatrick has acquired Jalen Ramsey and John ou Smith.
Now you may immediately hear that and think, oh, Jalen Ramsey,
and rightfully so. Last year, Jalen Ramsey graded out of
his seventy six point nine on Pro Football Focus, one
of the top fifteen corners in the National Football League.
Mika Fitzpatrick graded out around his sixty sixty eight.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Uh, he was.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Okay, but getting a little bit older. So they get
Jalen Ramsey. John Ou Smith, if you follow along with
Football Focus, was granted as the fifth best tight end
in football last year seventy eight point two PFF grade.
So in the last few weeks from an AFC North standpoint,

(02:13):
we saw the Baltimore Ravens acquire jayra Alexander. We've seen
the Pittsburgh Steelers now acquire Jalen Ramsey, and John hu Smith.
Obviously a direct correlation to what the Bengals are very
good at, which is the passing game. Teams building up
in the AFC North to try to slow that down,

(02:34):
and rightfully so. But as we'll get into an hour
number three, Austin, I think when this news hit you
and I both had the same response. Aggressive pursuit of
a championship. If you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, Yeah, that's what
this is. That's what the offseason has been for them
and for Baltimore, and they continue, both of those teams

(02:55):
to load up on secondary players to try to stop
Jamar T.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Higgins. That's what this is. This is doing something to
defend your division rival's biggest strength. And I mean, even
if you could even go a step further and say
a team like the Philadelphia Eagles, if you're serious about
contending for a Super Bowl, you got to have a
pretty good secondary. Philadelphia is gonna certainly be in the
mix to be right back in the Super Bowl. So yeah,

(03:24):
I mean I just look at it and think in
today's day and age, and in the AFC North, with
the roster and the talent that every single team has,
the Steelers are loading up on defense. Maybe they're going
back to their roots.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
You're thinking that they got Darius Slay earlier in the offseason.
Joey Porter Junior. Yeah, I mean it's very obvious what
teams are trying to do in the AFC North. Now,
how that pertains to the Bengals won. It is a
direct correlation of what the Bengals offense is. There are
rumblings that, you know, Pittsburgh and TJ Watt. We talked

(03:57):
about those last week that Watt could be in the
forty million a year range. Mika or Micah Parsons UH
in Dallas are working on a deal. If you're Trey
Hendrickson right now, you have no hurry to get to
the negotiating table with the Cincinnati Bengals. You want to
wait until those deals get done and UH and then
go ahead and move on from there. So we'll talk
about this in our number three along with some Trey

(04:18):
Hendrickson a Shamar Stewart update. We'll talk about a lingering
question still remaining for this Bengals team. As Paul Danner
Junior put it, UH, Dylan Fairchild's training for some uh
some UFC it was good to see him in the octagon,
all right, dyl against we believe Sean Strickland, who Strickland
doing some nice UFC training. Fair Child looked good in

(04:42):
that he did. Feet looked good, punch looked good.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
That's that strike technique stuff. That uh, that's big stuff.
What's his faces teaching him big stuff. I used to
know all these names, and then the Reds got hot,
and I forget who's the name of this Scott Peters
got Peter it's hard man with a You want to
tell you.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
They're red hot Monday, dude, red hot or the Cincinnati Reds.
Obviously not shift. I'm in offseason mode football. Sure, sure,
obviously we'll talk about the Reds taking two or three
from the Padres. They continue what has been a very
very impressive month of June. It was a month that
started quite frankly, and you thought, all right, they just

(05:20):
came off a series loss against the Cubs. They started
June with the series loss against the Milwaukee Brewers, and
you're thinking Arizona, Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota, Saint Louis, New York,
San Diego. They've went on to win six of their
last seven series against some really good baseball teams. The
one series loss was against the Saint Louis Cardinals on
the road, but they pick up a series win against

(05:41):
San Diego. And now that schedule going forward, four more
series before the All Star break. We'll dive into those
series specifically as we go.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
I got a number one nugget. Nugget, nugget. The Reds
are eleven and fifteen against the National League Central this year.
They are thirty twenty five against everybody else. Incredible, write
that down, incredible. What else happened there? Nineteen and fourteen,
by the way, an interleague play. That's good. Not that

(06:11):
that matters. That's good in games that are decided by
five runs or more aka blowout games. The Reds are
thirteen and twelve. They've gotten all the way up to
ten and eleven in one run games. That's better than
their started, which is much better. Yeah, So all right,
well something to think about.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
All right, Well, we'll recap the weekend that was for
the Cincinnati Reds. Obviously a big weekend at the ballpark
honoring the Big Red Machine, but also a sad weekend
as well as the Baseball Hall of Famer former National
League MVP Dave Parker passed away over the weekend as well,
So very very sad news. The Cobra was one of

(06:51):
the best to ever do it, and in many ways
he is. Like I said, he won the nl MVP
in nineteen seventy nine. He was elected to the Baseball
Hall of Fame in December. Unfortunately he's going to be
inducted on July twenty seventh, so missing out on that.
But it was a long time coming Austin for Dave Parker,

(07:14):
who did it at a very high level for a
long time, and you certainly follow along with his fight
and the impact that he was able to make along
the way. Certainly sad news to hear the passing of
Dave Parker. Yeah, seventy four years old. Died twenty nine
days ahead of his enshrinement into the National Baseball Hall

(07:35):
of Fame in Cooperstown. And a dude that grew up
just outside of Crosley Field, learned how to play baseball
in the city of Cincinnati, wanted to be a Red
Back in nineteen eighty three, signed with the Reds in
December of eighty three and then made a couple of
All Star teams with Cincinnati. Elected to the Reds Hall
of Fame in twenty fourteen. He's also in the Pirates
Hall of Fame. That's where he had most success in

(07:56):
his career. Won a couple of World Series in his
career as well. In Oakland, even right before the nineteen
ninety season.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
They won in eighty nine. So yeah, man, just an
all time great and sad that he wasn't here and
isn't gonna be here to see that enshrinement into Cooperstown.
I'm misseeing him. He used to come up to our
stable around here. He used to come up to our
studios once or twice a year and do interviews with
Mo and stuff like that. And yeah, he was always

(08:27):
seemed like a really nice guy. I didn't, you know,
get to know him real well, but yeah, it was.
It was cool to see him.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
The rest of the sports ward happenings right now. The
WNBA is gonna add three teams by twenty thirty. Let's
go Cleveland, Detroit, Philly, come on down, You're gonna get
a w NBA team in the NBA. DeAndre Eaton is
a free agent. Okay, he was moved on from the
Portland Trail Blazers moved on from him, and free agency
actually starts at six o'clock tonight. Oh, in the National

(08:53):
Basketball Association. So something to watch NBA free agency. You
would think at some point, and maybe we'll ask this
to motive. You didn't have a head coach in place
during the draft. Should you have an NBA head coach
in place during free agency?

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Did you see that they reached out to Don Staley?
Is that real?

Speaker 3 (09:11):
I don't know, Okay, I know they're reaching a lot
of levels right now.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
That was one I forgot to fact check if it
was real that Don Staley had been contacted by the
Knicks' I think that'd be interesting.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Speaking of levels, how about FC Cincinnati man keeping their high.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Level of play up. Shout out to Evanders. Shout out
to Evander Man. That dude's a monster. He's been unbelievable
for f C Cincinnati. Lucco, who, Yeah, I couldn't even
tell you. I couldn't even tell you anything about Luco anymore. Yep.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
All I know is that Evander is the real deal period.
They are now one point, just one point shy of
the Philadelphia Union as they went to Orlando City and
beat a very good, good Orlando City team as well.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
So it's tight in the Eastern Continent.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
It is.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
I think the top four or five teams are like
separated by a combined seven points. Are not a combined
seven points, but seven points total. It's pretty amazing.

Speaker 6 (10:04):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
What else is going on? Uh? All, we just got
a cryptic tweet from Jamar Chase. Oh are you ready
for this? We need to get a sounder for cryptic tweet. See.
Hopefully this is in response to what everyone else is doing. Uh. Yes,
every week it gets better and better. Angry purple gremlin
face emoji? What do we make of the gremlin face?

(10:28):
He's probably mad that he has to go up against
really good players every week. Every week it gets better
and better. Jamar is having a good time out there,
and uh, where's he at France? He's enjoying him. You know,
last year we talked a lot about Joe Burrow and
his off season escapades. You know, Jamar Chase is kind

(10:48):
of following a similar path this offseason, and we haven't
you know, nobody's really talking about that much. I don't
get it.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
No, what else happened over the weekend? Oh, Rose Level
in the US women's national team came into town.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
How about that they had a couple of games over
the weekend, both against Ireland Tone. We call these international friendlies. Obviously,
good to get back in Cincinnati.

Speaker 6 (11:12):
Now.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Rose did not play much just four minutes because she
played in the previous game and she's still coming back
off of injury and whatnot. But they did chant for
Rose level and Skyline Messi got in the game. United
States women's national team did sweep the weekend set with Ireland.
Ireland beat them four nothing at TQL Stadium yesterday. Tone.
That win was the six hundredth win in the history

(11:37):
of the United States women's national soccer team, so congrats
to them. Meanwhile, the men's team in the Gold Cup
had to take it to penalty kicks, but they found
a way to advance into the semis of the Gold Cup,
which is really a staple for the United States men's
national team. But they were able to avoid a tough loss.

(11:58):
They advance over the weekend as well. College football news
Jake Rehetslith He was the quarterback for BYU last year Austin.
He was He wasn't officially charged charged, but a woman

(12:20):
filed a civil suit that she was raped by Redslift
in twenty twenty three Now, no criminal charges have ever
been filed against him. It was an allegation that was
thrown against him. But there was a report that came
up earlier that Retzliff is facing a seven game suspension

(12:42):
because he admitted to premarital sex, which is a violation
of the school's honor code at BYU. Can't do that
at BYU, right, So instead of the seven game suspension,
it is reported that he's going to enter the transfer portal. Wow,
this is a quarterback last year that went to BYU.
Austin started thirteen games, them to an eleven and two record,

(13:03):
almost three thousand passing yards with twenty touchdowns as his
first year in the starter. So that is something to
watch at least from a Big twelve standpoint as well,
with BYU one of the opponents for the Bearcats this year.
And how about this EA Sports EA sport. We know
they're in the game. It's in the game.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
They're getting back into the college hoops game. Let's go,
what do you make of EA sports getting back into
college basketball.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
I don't know why. I hadn't really thought of this
as a possibility, but I mean, yeah, it makes sense.
I think college football is like the big test, like, hey,
can we do this? Can it makes sense for everybody?
And the answer is yes, we can find a way
to make a bunch of money. Players can make a
little bit of money. Let's do it. Let's grow the game.
So pretty cool that they did that, Tony, I got

(13:48):
one other thing for that here. I know you're a
sneaker head. Sneakerhead, did you see that today? I believe
at dropping ten or eleven o'clock this morning, Caitlin Clark's
Kobe five Pronto's Player editions came out. They sold out
under a minute. That's incredible, one hundred and eighty nine

(14:09):
a pop. They were the Indiana I think they're called
the let me see the exact Kobe five pro trow
Caitlin Clark fever Man, her first shoe drop with Nike.
They came out earlier today, one hundred and eighty nine
to ninety nine, sold out every size under a minute. Unbelievable.

(14:30):
It's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Getting more clarification from the Steelers now Austin on this trade.
This from Mark Caboli. What I have been told Mark
says is that the Steelers view John new Smith as
a tight end, a slot receiver and a fullback, and
they will use him in all three ways in Arthur
Smith's offense.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
I don't know that those two things go together. They'd
be a slot receiver and a fullback, saying he could
play anywhere. Interesting.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
They also see Jalen Ramsey as an outside corner, slot
corner and someone who is able and willing to play
snaps at safety.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Okay, that makes it make a little bit more sense
to me, but I don't know that. I don't know
they're going all in willing to play some snaps at safety.
Who would you rather see play safety, Jalen Ramsey or
Darius Slay. Sligh makes a little bit more sense to
me as a guy that could maybe transition to that role. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Probably, if I'm an opponent and a fan of the
Bengals as I am, I probably want to see Ramsey
back there.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
The backup to Mika Fitzpatrick is Juan Thornhill. We know
about him. Former Cleveland Brown got his face bashed in
a little bit last year, wasn't very good, but signs
with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the offseason, so maybe he's
gonna it could be a camp battle at that spot.
But positional versatility, I guess is what they're counting on
for both those guys.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Yeah, but again, the term aggressive pursuit of a championship
is something that's often referred to on this show show
and uh, some actual movement from teams that seemingly are
all in on the aggressive pursuit of a championship, especially
with Pittsburgh, because Rogers has come out and said, look,
this is probably it for me, and if you're the Steelers,

(16:15):
then okay, let's let's try to go all in.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
For U, go maximize it. And if they get the TJ.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Watt deal done, you start to think, Okay, that looks
more like a Pittsburgh defense from years past. Can Aaron
Rodgers and DK metcalf and a two tight end set
with John hu Smith and Friarmouth? What does that look
like with Aaron Rodgers healthy at the helmet? It does
raise certainly some questions. So we're just getting started here

(16:41):
on a Monday. We've got a Red Series win to recap,
We've got phone calls to take at five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We'll begin all that when we come back
after the poll quest last thing. Two things then Okay,
congratulations are in order to former Bengal Andrew Whitworth.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Oh. He and Nick Saban were inducted over the weekend
into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, a couple of
LSU legends. Andrew Whitworth, Nick Saban, Congratulations to them and
Tony you mentioned it. Our Revivefitness Systems dot Com poll
question in response to what we saw this morning with
the defense upgrades maybe question mark of the Pittsburgh Steelers,

(17:22):
presented by Revive Fitness Systems dot Com and PJA Street.
Which defense scares you the most? The Ravens or the Steelers?
Eighty three percent say the Ravens defense. Now, you made
the point earlier. We'll get into it. The Ravens don't
have something that the Steelers do. Yes, we can talk
about that later. That worries me when we come back.

(17:46):
Where do we need to start when we come back? Oh,
that's simple. The red hot Cincinnati Reds Next. Surely you
don't forget what I forget that they were red hot? Yeah, well,
the temperatures rise, the Reds rise. I like that.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
We'll be more on that next. Since e three to

The right field line. All that's gonna do it.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
Here comes Lunch with the winning run and the Reds
walk up with a series victory over the Podreys. Well
Benson gets it done. He is mobbed out behind second
base two and the ninth up the Podreys closer, and

(19:57):
the Reds win it the sap afternoon three to two.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
How about that? That is what it sounded like yesterday
as the Reds walk it off thanks to Willie Beeman.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Who's your Padre man, San Diego.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Will Benson fantastic wins it yesterday for the Cincinnati Reds.
What a week at the ballpark Austin. You take two
or three from the Yankees and two or three from
the Padres.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
And they really could have should have won yes, one
Saturday too, if not for just a tough, tough outing
from Lion Richard gosh Man.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yeah, they're just fighting. Ways, let's run through. Let's run
through the weekend. Let's start on the back end. On Friday.
How about the week that Nick Martinez had earlier in
the week. He openly slides to the bullpen, makes a
bullpen appearance, doing what he can to help the team,

(20:55):
filling roles, helping move spots around for certain players. And
then he's handed the ball Austin on Friday night, and
what does he do takes a no hitter into the
ninth inning. Now you could tell he was just gassed
in the ninth just absolutely gassed. The no hitter goes away.

(21:19):
The Reds still win the game eight one. They win
it offensively thanks to three three Spencer Steer home runs
on Friday night.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
And if I'm not mistaken, it was two years ago
today that Spencer Steer hit the walk off homer against
San Diego on a City Connect night. You may remember
that as the night Taylor Swift was performing right down
the street at Peikor Stadium. But yeah, for whatever reason,
Spencer Steer owns the padres and can we you know,

(21:49):
Friday night. I don't know why they put Ryan whatever
that guy's name is in left field, the guy who
came up to replace Connor Joe while he's sick. Yeah,
I don't know why they put him in a game.
First time in his career, he's ever played left field
at Ballpark. Honestly, I didn't care enough to look up
how to pronounce his name, so that my apologies to him,

(22:11):
but they put him in the game. Kind of unfair
to him. Yeah, never played that position. And a no hitter,
and that ball was scorched to the gap like I
thought it was gone, and people want to jump all
over this cat number forty six. Who first of all, yeah,
I get on number forty six because Buck Farmer apparently's
coming back. Did you see that forty six is Buck

(22:34):
Farmer's number? So DFA coming soon? No, sorry, that's me anyways.
So anyways, that dude couldn't catch that ball. He could
not get to that ball, and instead of trying to
sell out for the no hitter and potentially giving up
a triple and a run or whatever it might have been,
he says, I'm going to play this off the ball

(22:55):
off the wall and get it back in. Can we
stop with the whole questioning the cat's effort. The dude
did what he did. That ball, Yeah, nobody was kept.
Thing was smoked. No one is catching that ball.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
But uh look I I go back, Nick Martinez. He
gave up seven runs against the Twins and under three innings.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
He got beat around.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Francona suggested he make a relief appearance, and he threw
two perfect innings in Saint Louis. Two days later. He
offered another bullpen outing to make sure Brady Singer stayed
on his turn, pitches a one, two three inning against
the Yankees and then goes eight no hit innings against
the Padres. That's good stuff from Nick Martinez. Yeah, really cool.
That's really really cool stuff. Key stat there has never

(23:41):
been a three homer game during a no hitter. That
could have happened. It didn't, but it could have happened.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
The rest. There's never been a three homer game in
which somebody threw at least eight no hitting about that,
So that happened, okay, there was at least that. There
was also hitting from uh Ellie day La Cruz. He
had two hits on the night. Ellie's a beast.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
They had nine hits over the night, eight runs. Ellie
added a stolen base. Austin Hayes edited an RBI, as
did Gavin lux Eli Daila Cruise along with Spencer Steers four.
Austin Hayes doubled in the game and a great start
to the weekend with a eight to one victory. And
then you you alluded to this, Austin, you want to

(24:19):
talk about what could have been? Saturday comes along and
here comes you want to talk about hot Here comes
Andrew Abbott to the mound, who goes five innings. Now
his pitch count got too high on on Saturday, but
he went five innings and he left the game giving
up only one run, and he left the game with

(24:39):
a four to one lead.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
That lead.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
Was thinking in large part due to a Gavin lux RBI,
T J friedl RBI and a Matt McClain RBI and
then Stevenson gay It got a sack fly in the
fifth which made it four to one, but Scott Barlow
Lyon Richardson both unable to hold the lead as Barlow
got charged with two lion Richardson got charged with three,

(25:04):
and what felt like at the time Austin, like a
very winnable game turned into a rough loss for the
Reds on Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
Yeah, it was tough because, like, those two guys have
been really reliable, Yeah, and it just so happened that
they had a rough day and it cost the Reds
a win because you know, Barlow's been pitching great. Richardson
had given up like two runs in his last fourteen
appearances or something along those lines, so he was pitching
as good as anybody on the roster. And the Padres,

(25:32):
to their credit, they just fought. They battled that whole game.
I mean, you know, the way they were working counts
against Andrew Rabbott. They were able to get him out
of the game early and then had a few winnings
to work with against the Reds bullpen and they did damage.
So credit to the Padres. They put something nice together
there and you know made the most of it. That
was a tough one though, especially the way Sunday happened.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Reds collected ten hits on the afternoon multi hit games
from lux Friedel and McClain and and I don't want
to say an improbable loss, but you felt pretty good
in the you know, the the bottom of the fifth
when the Reds made it four to one, after Andrew
abag gave you that you're gonna win that game. So
maybe you feel like you had one for the taking

(26:14):
that got taken away and you think, Okay, hopefully this
doesn't start a downward spiral. And then yesterday happened, and
obviously a lead late that you felt like, probably not
going to be good for the Reds. They find a
way to score two in the bottom half of the
ninth inning to walk off the San Diego Padres three
to two. I thought it was a solid start from

(26:35):
Nicolodolo five and a third, seven hits, one run. He
did strike out five batters. Barlow had a good inning.
Lion Richardson did give up one earned run on a
fielder's choice by Jose Iglesias, but Tony Santim was great.
Taylor Rodgers and Emilio Pagan ends up coming in and
getting the win for the Cincinnati Reds. It was a

(26:56):
good pitching day. The bats weren't quite as active early,
but they started to put a little pressure on late
in the game. It was another multi hit game from
both Ellie Da La Cruz, Spencer Steer, and Will Benson
three hits, including the game winner. I thought Spencer Steer
put together a fantastic at bat to get Ellie day
La Cruz around.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
It was Ellie's at bat to lead off. Goodness, yes
to work. That was as good as any at bet
you're going to see from him maybe ever in his career,
like he fouled off pitches and fouled off pitches, had
take pitches, had some great takes on some close pitches.
And you know, if it was Sean Porter behind the
behind the plate like it was the other night, Saturday
or whatever it was Friday, you probably get a different

(27:41):
outcome because that guy was awful behind the plate, but
one of the better umpires in that crew. On a
couple of those close pitches, and against again the guy
who leads the league in saves and Robert Suarez, Ellie's
able to fight off a pitch to the opposite field,
and of course he hits it right at the dude
who just came into the game and a ton of

(28:02):
spin on it misses his glove. They first charge him
with an air they then gave it to Eli as
a hit after the game. I mean, Ellie just continues
to get better and better and better.

Speaker 7 (28:11):
You know.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
See Trent Rosecrans wrote about this too. It's like in
like Austin Hayes made the point. It's like you can
keep saying he's hot, but eventually this is just who
he is.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
His strikeout rate has gone down, his walk rate has
gone up, his batting average has gone up, his on
base percentage has gone up. Everything. Every single year since
he's been in the big leagues, he continues to ascend
as a player. It's fun to watch, especially because there's
been a lot of times where he'll come up in
a big moment where somebody got a base hit and
there's runners on and Ellie needs deliver. But yesterday they

(28:43):
needed him to be the catalyst. And then the rest
of the team did the damage. That was cool to see. Yeah,
the bigger the moment. It feels like the more he shines,
the more he locks in. And obviously that was the case.
You feel good about that. What do you feel currently
when you watch Cees play the third base position? How
long until Noel Vi Marte gets been that's normally.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
What Martin has been playing. Well, yeah, but I just
look if Cees. It's one thing because there are times
with Elie Austin, where you know, you get a little
nervous when the balls hit to him at short, but
what he gives you on offense makes up for that.
Right with Cees, he's struggling defensively. I don't know how

(29:24):
he wasn't charged with an air on that play yesterday.
But he's also only hitting one ninety three. So if
you're not going to be very good in the field,
you've got to offer something more at the plate, and
Cees is not doing that right.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
And it's again a big part of their struggles against
left handed hitter or left handed pitchers is you've got
to be your guy. You need people that can produce
right handers that can produce consistently against left handed pitching,
and CS is supposed to be one of those guys.
That's why he's here, that's why he's in the lineup,
and it's just not happening. And Espino is atrocious as well.

(29:58):
It hasn't been great of late. So you know, I
think I was reading what Charlie wrote yesterday and he
called noelvi Marte one of the biggest question marks of
this season for the second half, because in nineteen games
earlier this year, he was awesome, like he was a
legitimate great player that helped this team, and then he

(30:20):
got hurt. Who's he gonna be? Is he gonna be
the guy we saw for nineteen games or is he
going to be the guy who took a significant step
back in the second half of last season and did
not help this team. And he struggled a little bit,
and his rehabit sign has been thrown off because of
a bunch of rainouts in Chattanooga. But the last two

(30:40):
games that he's played, he's performed and hit the ball well.
They desperately need somebody who can provide consistent production out
of the third base position, and it's not Cees right.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
Now, still hoping to get Matt McClain back to the
level of consistency. But when you talk about Freedol and you, Ellie,
how about what Spencer's year. In the month of June,
Spencer Steeers hit three fifteen in the last seven days Austin,
he's hitting five twenty two. In the last fifteen days,
he's hitting three eighty eight.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
It's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Spencer Steers average is now up to two fifty four
on the year. That'll work I mean love what you're
getting out of Spencer Steeer. You're still hoping and waiting
that if you can get something more consistently out of
Matt McLean, especially because this team is struggling against left
handed starters, which we'll get to the left handed starter
tonight for the Boston Red Sox. That can be a
sign of good things to come as well. But as

(31:29):
it stands right now, Uh, they didn't get to make
up a ton of ground because of what a lot
of other teams are doing from the NL Central standpoint.
But they are five out in the NL Central, but
they took and they're two and a half out in
the wild a series against San Diego, who is one
of those teams they're gonna be battling with, yep, and
so they got to go back out there later this
year to play the Padres. It helps being one up already. Yeah,

(31:53):
let's do this, Let's take a break, let's come back.
Let's set the stage for tonight, which should be really
fun in Boston with Chase Burns on the mound. We'll
do that and end of our number one, we'll grab
your phone calls as well. Five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. This is Sincy three sixty. You're listening on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station thirty. Welcome back since

(32:22):
he three to sixty thanks to Skyline Chili. Thank you
for listening on a Monday afternoon on the ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati's sports station. Here's where things continue to get fun
for the Cincinnati Reds. Austin the next two opponents. How
about a road trip to Boston. How about a road
trip to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Now.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
As of right now, Philadelphia Phillies lead the National League
East at forty nine and thirty five. That is the
exact same record as Chicago Cubs, who lead the Central
of Dodgers lead all teams in the National League at
fifty three wins. They are now tied in all of
baseball with the Detroit Tigers at fifty three and thirty two.

Speaker 4 (33:04):
As for the.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Boston Red Sox, not a good stretch right now for
the Red Sox, losers of seven of their last ten.
They are forty one and forty four. They obviously made
the Raphael Devers trade. They moved on from Devers. Here
come the Cincinnati Reds into Fenway Park. How much more
could you want if you're a fan of pitching tonight

(33:26):
at Fenway Park, because you get to see Chase Burns, who,
by the way, is going to make his first two appearances,
one against the Yankees lineup and then two at Fenway Park.
Not a bad way to start your Major League baseball career.
But he is being opposed tonight by a man by
the name of Garrett Crochet. What can you tell me
about Garrett Crochet Austin.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
Garrett Crochet is a monster, First and foremost, He's left handed,
and we know how the Reds struggle with left handed
starting pitchers, and he's been on a heater as of
late over his last three starts. First of all, overall
this season, Crochet as a two point six earned run average,
which is good in and of itself, but lately he's

(34:08):
been nasty his last three starts an ERA of zero
point eighty four. He's allowed just thirteen hits in those
three starts, has struck out twenty five batters in those
three and walked just four. He is, as they would say,
across the pond, in good form. So he's due for
a letdown that you, I mean that's the flip side.

(34:30):
He's kind kind of due to give up some runs.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Did the Red Socks sell on their season by moving
on from Devers? I don't think they think they did,
but I think most people think they did. Yeah, does
that make sense? Yeah, I mean Jared Durant is the uh,
the rookie. The sensation right that everyone's talking about is
that duran He's not a rookie, but yeah, young enough,
he's there. He's like their next big thing. Yeah, they've

(34:59):
got a of them.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
They've got Roman Anthony is who you're thinking as their
number one prospect. They've brought him up. They've got like
a handful, I think.

Speaker 9 (35:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
I think they're really similar to the Detroit Tigers from
a year ago, where they've brought up a lot of
their good prospects and now they're just trying to figure
out how to make it. Joe, I forgot Bregman's a
Red Sox till Yeah, and Bregman is having a really
good season to the point where they because of all
these new guys coming up and because they're probably not
going to compete in the American League, they might end

(35:32):
up selling a couple of those top guys. You know
some some have even said the red should go after
a world as Chapman. Oh, which you want to talk
about a move that would make sense. Yeah, Boston's not
going anywhere. Yep. The Reds don't have a left hander
that you feel like can come in and get lefties out.
Brent Souter is number one. He's like the long relief guy,

(35:54):
and he's a pitch to contact hitter or pitcher. Taylor
Rogers very up and not great by any stretch of
the imagination. Sam Mole is just getting lit up in
Triple A. He's not coming up anytime soon. It's like
the guys that you need, the lefties you rely on
to get lefties out, doesn't really exist in the Reds

(36:15):
bullpen right now.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
Right it's a Red Sox team who is eighth in
Baseball in runs scored, so they can get some runs across.
The Red cit at tent in that category. So pretty
similar from these two teams and where they stand. It's
Chase Burns night, which is exciting for the Cincinnati Reds.
But what's even more exciting here Austin is this this

(36:38):
stretch before the All Star break. Three in Boston, three
in Philly, and then you come home and you get
four against the Marlins and three against the Colorado Rockies.
So if you just break it down from a road
trip standpoint, if you're the Reds, are you satisfied if
you come home to face the Marlins and you go
three and three on this trip? I think so, because

(37:02):
then if you go, let's say five and two in
those last seven games, you give yourself a chance if
they go.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
To be seven over at the All Star break.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Hey, if they go eight and five right now over
the last thirteen games, they'd be seven over five hundred
at the All Star break, you would think that that
would still be right in the thick of the wild card.
I think that's a pretty good spot. And obviously, if
you could win another series against Boston and find a way,
you're gonna take that. But I think if you can
come back home at three and three over this road trip,

(37:35):
I think you feel pretty good about where you're at.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Philly's not going to be easy. Well, that's the thing.
Not only do they face Crochet coming up tonight, but
they're gonna face Rangers Wrez in Philadelphia, who's a nasty
left hander as well, and a guy that the Red
Stiff stru struggled against in the past, so you know
it's not going to get any easier for them in

(37:59):
this series, which is why this road trip, which is
why I agree with you three and three on the trip. Yeah,
it doesn't get you excited, but I think you'd be
happy about that. I think, especially considering Crochet and Suarez
are two nasty lefties you're gonna.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Face, right and it gives you something to say, Okay,
that could be something with some holding power going into
the break and now not only and this is again
looking ahead because you want to get the Boston series
done in the first place. You want to talk about
a chance for left handed pitching though that Philly series.
If I'm not mistaken, all three listed starters right now

(38:35):
are lefties. Lozardo, Suarez, and Sanchez are all left handed pitchers,
so that that doesn't exactly bode well for this reds offense.
By the way, Chase Burns is scheduled to make his
third start on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies. So that's
a heck of a way to come into the league.
New York, Boston and Philly. Yeah, have fun, kid, yep,

(38:58):
But again, you could line up against Philly with Abbott,
Lodolo and Burns, if you could win the Boston Series,
figure out a way to get some production out of
the right handed spot of your lineup, and maybe even
that's noueve Marte, if he can get back up to
this squad, you can give yourself a chance to make
a little bit more noise. And obviously than that would
turn to what do you do at the deadline? Are

(39:19):
you a team that's going to be adding and those
fun conversations to be had, But they can get that
done by again just continuing the course that they're on
right now. They've played some really good baseball. They've won
some meaningful games that felt like maybe they were out
of reach. So a lot to be excited about right
now with this Cincinnati Reds team. We'll talk more about
them as we go, but when we come back, let's

(39:40):
open up the phone lines for the first time today
five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty at Cincy
three to sixty thanks to Skyline Chili More.

Speaker 10 (39:47):
Next, Hey, Alexa, what's going on in baseball?

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio. Yeah, A lot's going
on in baseball, Uh, huh, A lot a lot of move,
a lot of shaken.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Since he three to sixty.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Thanks the Skyline Chili, thank you for listening on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station. We give a quick shout
out to the Pirates. I know we don't like anything
about Pittsburgh, but how about the Pirates sweeping the Mets
like they did? Thirty runs they scored and allowed just
four over the weekend?

Speaker 4 (40:23):
Did skinny? I don't even think Skeens pitched. Kes is
gonna say.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
They scored thirty runs in a three game series and
gave up just four against the Mets.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
And the Mets had the best record in baseball on
June twelfth. Since then, they have been the worst team
in baseball. Banks life comes at you fast in the
old Big leagues. Yikes. And you know who delivered a
big hit yesterday as well to help the Brewers lose?
Who Kyle Farmer?

Speaker 1 (40:52):
Man?

Speaker 4 (40:52):
Kyle Farmer with a go ahead knocking extra innings for
the Colorado Rockies yesterday sent Milwaukee home. Sat on a
Sunday shout out to Kyle. How about the Mets?

Speaker 3 (41:03):
You want to talk about a finish to the break,
They go to Milwaukee take on the Milwaukee Brewers for three.
I'm saying they host the Brewers and then the Yankees
come into town, and then they go to upstart who's playing.
Baltimore's playing better baseball. They go to Baltimore and two
Kansas City to finish out the first half. That is
a skid that can continue to happen. If you're the Mets.

(41:27):
I wouldn't see, No, I wouldn't mind. I'm up for
I want madness.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
I am just selfishly. I want to watch Frank the
tank melt down. And I love that guy.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
Yeah, he's the best quick rundown of the standings. Yankees
atop the East. They are a game and a half
clear of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tigers now eleven
and a half, Austin eleven and a half clear of
the Guardians in the Al Central. Guardians have lost four
in a row. The Houston Astros become the third team
in baseball to get to that fifty win plateau. They

(42:01):
are now six and a half clear of the Seattle Mariners.
And how about the Angels Austin hovering right around five hundred.

Speaker 4 (42:07):
Yeah, toty tough news too with them their skipper Roy
Washington haven't disclosed exactly what's going on, but he's gonna
be out for a little while out in definitely, I
guess in.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
The National League it is the Phillies a game and
a half clear of the Mets. That's how good the
Mets were. They've been as bad as they are lately,
and they're just still a game and a half back
in the East. The Braves. Doesn't look like it's getting
better for the Braves. I thought maybe I thought you're
getting back that maybe they get something there. They're thirty
eight and forty five. They're ten and a half back

(42:40):
in the East. Their offense is just it's it's terrible.
They can't score runs. How about quietly what the NL
central's doing. Cubs with forty nine wins, The Brewers and
Cardinals both have forty seven wins, and the red sit
there with forty four. Four teams over five hundred in
the NL Central. Five games separate the Reds from the

(43:02):
Chicago Cubs at the top, and then the Dodgers fifty
three and thirty two, seven games clear of the San
Diego Padres and seven and a half clear of the
San Francisco Giants, So that is from a standings point
of view in Major League Baseball. As I mentioned before,
the Reds two and a half out in the wild
card as well as play gets underway today.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
Speaking of the play today against.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
The Boston Red Sox, they are just three out of
the American League Wildcard at this point as well, so
something to keep an eye on. The AL Wildcard not
nearly as strong as the NL Wildcard at this point.
Let's take a phone call before we break for our
number two. Jeff is calling in.

Speaker 6 (43:42):
Hey, Jeff, Ah, Happy Monday, gents.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
What's going on?

Speaker 11 (43:46):
This is it?

Speaker 1 (43:47):
This is it?

Speaker 12 (43:49):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (43:49):
Hey, that talkback I left that made the finals last
week was no homage to you guys. It was a
takeoff on an ad that we hear repeatedly on the
app that was driving me out of my mind. Thank
you for the recognition, appreciated that that was an easy
one that every day nine thousand times to hear that, yayyay,

(44:09):
we're gonna.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
Make that work.

Speaker 6 (44:11):
Definitely.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
I used to have control over the like the commercials
in the app, but I don't anymore. Jeff, I apologize, Well,
there was who were the brothers?

Speaker 6 (44:20):
And there was Ray Marriotzi we run the gamut of
over exposure. So I think, briefly on the Steelers trade,
I'm not worried about Jalen Ramsey. We get thinking out
of the division, which leaves us really the only Roquan
Smith like in the top three dirtiest players in the league.

(44:43):
I think John who may give them a little added
dimension that take me real comfortable. But you know, obviously,
guess what other teams do when they see weaknesses, They
go out and address them. What do the Bengals do
when they see witnesses? They count pennies. So we are
where we are.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Yeah, the thing I think that's I think it's a
point going forward that that has to be taken when
you see what these AFC North.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
Teams have done.

Speaker 6 (45:08):
Yeah, it's maddening, but we've lived it for our entire life,
so it's not going to change. And I think after
this weekend I kind of decided for the rest of
the year on the Reds. Instead of going zero to
one hundred, I'm just going to go like forty to seventy.
You know, they're young, they're exciting, they still do enough
stupid crap to let you know that they aren't may

(45:29):
not really be contenders. But there's so much fun in
watching those guys. But I think kind of like what
you guys talked about, until they prove that they can
beat the Brewers, I don't think we're ever going to
be in contention for the division, and those August and
September road trips are going to lay a lot of
stuff out. But hey, let's get everybody back healthy. I
agree with you, Tony Cees has no business playing third base,

(45:53):
but we'll let Tito the Magnificence start working on that. Yeah,
and maybe a few more things together.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Here it is Tito the Magnificence.

Speaker 6 (46:03):
Enjoy your Monday guys.

Speaker 4 (46:04):
Thank you, Jeff appreciate that.

Speaker 6 (46:07):
We will.

Speaker 3 (46:08):
We'll take a break, we'll come back a little more
on the red standpoint to kick off the hour number two,
and we've got a lot to get to as it
pertains to the NFL and the Cincinnati Bengals, along with
everything magnificence going on in the UH.

Speaker 4 (46:22):
The AFC North continues to get better. We'll be back.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
More of your phone calls ahead five one, three, seven, nine,
fifteen thirty at Cincy three sixty Thanks to Skyline Chili.
Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 10 (46:36):
Ky Cincinnati, make us the number one pre set on
your car radio and on the free, new and improved
iHeartRadio ad Free never sounded so good.

Speaker 2 (46:44):
ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 4 (46:46):
What does Summertime.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, Sponsored in part
by Cincy Shirts Cincy Shirts all since, all day. This
is ESPN fifteen Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
Welcome back, Thanks for joining us our number two Cincy
three to sixty, Thanks to Cincy Shirts, and thank you
for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Happy
to have you along a lot in hour number one,
talking about the Cincinnati Reds, what they were able to
do over the weekend, their sixth series win in their
last seven opportunities, and putting themselves in a position to

(47:29):
continue to compete amongst the National League wild card candidates.
So good things happening for the Cincinnati Reds. We'll talk
about a wild day in the AFC North as well.

Speaker 4 (47:40):
But it might be the motto put yourself in position
to continue to compete. Yep, I like that. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (47:48):
Here here's the thing, and this is it's kind of
what Jeff alluded to from a smaller point of view
because he mentioned the Brewers. Until I can see this
team do it against the Milwaukee Brewers, you're going to
be skeptical. Let's take it one step further, and again
we knew what the Central, at least what we thought
it was going to be, and the Cubs are right

(48:09):
now one of the better teams in baseball. But you
mentioned what was it eleven and fifteen versus the Central.

Speaker 4 (48:15):
Eleven and fifteen against the National League Central, thirty three
and twenty five against everybody else.

Speaker 3 (48:20):
Here's the breakdown from a Central standpoint. Out of those
eleven wins, four have come against the Pittsburgh Pirates, So
they are four and two against the Pirates, which means
losing records against the Cardinals Cubs. In Milwaukee, they're three
and four against the Cardinals, they are two and four
against the Chicago Cubs, and they are now two and

(48:40):
five on the season against the Milwaukee Brewers. So again
we talk about the wild car more because as good
as the Reds have been playing, they're still fourth place
in the NL Central and they're looking up at a
couple teams that got good seasons going on. The Saint
Louis Cardinals are well ahead of the schedule. We thought

(49:02):
they were going to be on the Chicago Cubs doing
what a lot of people predicted them to do. And
the Milwaukee Brewers are continuing to do Milwaukee Brewer things,
and the Reds can't figure out that team, let alone
figure out how to win a series against the Milwaukee Brewers. So, Austin,
how do you temper your excitement about the way the
team is playing and understanding what the schedule is coming up,

(49:24):
but at the same time thinking, Man, if they're going
to do anything, they've got to figure out a better
path forward in the NL Central.

Speaker 4 (49:31):
I'll be honest, I don't think of it much of
like the NL Central as much as they're just not
consistent enough to get to where they want to go.
If they're more consistent, the wins against the Central will come.
Like I think the Reds have the best pitching in
the division. I think they have just as much, if

(49:53):
not more talent, than any team in the division, maybe
outside of Chicago. Like they have the players, they have,
the manager, they have for the most part of the
arms to be able to make it work. But consistently
they don't perform well enough and That's what makes me
worry about the entire season, is like, I don't know
if they can put this together for an extended stretch,

(50:17):
and so it seems like for whatever reason, they can't
win against the Central. I don't know if that's as
much because of those teams having some sort of a
leg up on the Reds as much as it's they're
just not consistent against them. And maybe it is. We
you know, those teams see the Reds more often, they
know the Reds more often, they're more Maybe there's something

(50:39):
to that, but they don't win on the road. They're
under five hundred on the road, and they're not consistent
enough against like on a night by night basis like, no,
it should never happen that just because a left handed
starter is in the game, you can't win, right like,
you can't put together anything offensively, And that's just my

(51:03):
biggest issue. So I don't know that I think of
it as as the Central as much as it's just like,
do they have the horses to run? The horses to run?
Come on now, So basically, the what's it come out
to right now? That's seventy eight games left in the season.
Does that sound right? I think this is eight game

(51:24):
eighty five. Ye right, So yeah, so.

Speaker 3 (51:27):
Out of the seventy eight, out of the seventy eight
remaining that they'll play, twenty six of them will be
in the division.

Speaker 4 (51:34):
So that's also part of it too.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
It's like, good, right, Well, that means they're going to
play fifty two games outside of the end of Central
remaining in the regular season, so six against the Brewers
and the Cardinals. They have seven left against the Cubs
and the Pittsburgh Pirates. So I guess it doesn't quantify
as big as maybe it would have in years past
or how the scheduling unfolds.

Speaker 4 (51:56):
But what I do find interesting is that.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
This team, for one whatever reason it may be, and
maybe it was just Terry Francona early in his tenure,
we wondered oftentimes early in the season, did they waste
a very winnable schedule Because the schedule going forward is
a is a dogfight, and.

Speaker 4 (52:17):
This team.

Speaker 3 (52:19):
They're going to have to pull out a lot of
stops because the red schedule. We talk in terms of
the All Star break, and yeah, they the seven games
before the break are very winnable coming out of the
All Star break, Mets Nationals, Tampa. Who's right in line
in the in the American League, the Dodgers right in
obviously line in the in the National League. You go

(52:41):
to Atlanta or you have Atlanta, you got the Bristol series,
and then it's Cubs, Pirates, Phillies, Brewers. I mean, there
are a lot of tough, tough opponents still ahead for
the Cincinnati Red. So they've played better against the good teams.
I think they still left the little meat on the
bone that first half of the season, when the schedule

(53:01):
was very winnable, that they just didn't find ways to win.
They lost a lot of those one run games or
games where they failed to score more than one or
two runs. And you hope that doesn't come back to
bite you. But as we sit here today and we
live in the present, I mean, how many times Austin
in the first half of this Red season, did it
feel like we came in to do a show and
we're ready.

Speaker 4 (53:20):
To just call it a season.

Speaker 3 (53:22):
Yeah, it happens all the time, right did just this
team didn't seem to have the makeup that you would
want a team that's going to compete to have. And eventually,
now with the schedule getting harder. It's just gonna it's
just gonna get to them. And then they find a
way to win these series, and they find a way
to draw you back in, and they find a way

(53:43):
to go on the road to a team with the
best record in baseball and take two or three. They
find a way to beat the Yankees and the Padres
at Great American Ballpark. And I think with each passing win,
and each time you find a way to win a series,
I think you start to find more confidence in the
players and you start to find more stuff to lean

(54:05):
on of. Man, if they could just get Matt McLean going,
if they could get a couple of these guys healthy,
if Spencer Steer continues on his trajectory, and TJ. Friedel
and Li daily Cruz are what we think they are
in this pitching staff and they're gonna get Hunter green Back,
you start to allow yourself to have those conversations. But
I still believe at this point, Austin, that the makeup

(54:27):
of this team, even if you get Marte and Hayes
consistently healthy and you get Hunter green Back, I still
don't think as is they are a roster for contending.
I still think you are going to have to make
a move if you want to be serious about contending.

Speaker 4 (54:44):
Do you think they're good enough as is when they
get healthy. No, and that goes back to me too.

Speaker 3 (54:53):
Okay, Well, if that's the case, are they a team
that is willing to do what historically and normally they
just don't do, which they did with Jamer Candelario they
did by bringing Chase Burns up. If you continue as
a team to put the pressure on the front office,
it's going to be very interesting to see how this
unfolds over the next couple weeks. And the one thing
I don't agree with when we have the trade deadline

(55:16):
conversation too much is well, the deadline is x amount
of days away, you don't have to wait.

Speaker 4 (55:23):
Well. The problem with that, though, is that other teams
will sure and other teams the bargain or the price
is going to be higher. Yeah, the earlier you make
a move, the higher the price.

Speaker 3 (55:34):
But so much with that is well, if they can
get through this schedule coming up and put themselves in
a position. But at the same time, again, while the
price is a little higher, getting those pieces early will
allow you to get through this schedule more successfully and
allow you to find wins along the way, so it is.
I do think it is some give and take there.

Speaker 4 (55:57):
Yeah, but I mean it depends on if you know
what other teams are willing to do, and if they're
willing to, you know, dance a little bit early with you,
or if they're gonna wait all the way up until
the deadline to try to maximize, or if they're waiting
for somebody to get healthy or whatever. That part I
think is kind of out of the Reds control. And
I do think there are a couple of guys who

(56:18):
are probably untouchable for them from a minor league standpoint,
which I get that every team has those players, So
I mean, I look, but here's the thing. I I
will believe it when I see it. With this team.
I always say that it's never about today and it's
always about tomorrow. They'll until they prove to me that

(56:40):
that's not how they feel. Until they prove to me
that it is about today, and they do maybe part
ways with one of those guys or they are aggressive early,
I'm just going to assume that they're not going to
do it and they're gonna try, so, oh well, we
keep these from the farm system intact and blah blah
blah blah blah, or we were close but we just
couldn't come to an agreement. Well, I don't give a

(57:00):
damn about any of that. I care about winning, and
so I want to be proven wrong by this team
and I don't think they have the guts to do it.

Speaker 3 (57:06):
Well, here's the thing. I go back and again, the
Reds are not the Giants, and I think what Buster
Posey is already done with the Giants is incredible. But
the Giants lost a very good player in Matt Chapman.
He was gonna miss multiple weeks due to a hand injury,
and so the Giants Austin they could have said, well,

(57:27):
we're gonna see how we fare without Chapman, and when
we get him back, if we're in a position, then
we'll be aggressive. Instead of that, they picked up the phone.
They find a way to get the Devers deal done
and in return Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, a couple minor
league players. I don't think the Hall was incredible to

(57:49):
give up for the San Francisco Giants, but with their
star player out for a couple of weeks, they didn't say, well,
let's see what we can do until Chapman gets back.
Let's go out and try to make sure we're maintaining
and do what we need to do, and then we
can be a mover and a contender when we get
Chapman back.

Speaker 4 (58:07):
Yeah, I see what you're saying. I also don't know
if that deal happens if not for the complete train
wreck that was Raphael Devers.

Speaker 3 (58:16):
Correct, it's got to be time and place. But for
the most part, everyone said, you know that they weren't
really shopping him. It's I think it was more posy
making a phone call. Hey, is there any way that
this can happen? Is there any way you get out
from under this? And again, it's a unique situation, but
the Giants could have very easily said, well, we got

(58:37):
to see what happens when Chapman gets back. We got
to see where we're at. Instead, screw that, we're not
waiting to see if we can keep our head above water.
Let's try to excel and then when we get Matt
Chapman back, Holy cow, Now we're an offense you got
to watch out for. Because we really heard the opposite, right,
it was well, once Austin Hayes and Juelve Marte, get

(58:59):
back some pop in the lineup, and that's gonna be
some protection, and then you're gonna kind of get a
gauge of really who this offense is and what they
can be. Okay, I hope so, but I don't think
we've consistently seen enough from Hazer Marte to think that, okay,
that's going to be enough to get this team over
the hump. Regardless, this team has battled their tail off.

(59:21):
They deserve credit for that. Nick Crawl deserves credit for
moving on from jam Er Candelaureo. They deserve credit for
going and getting Chase Burns and bringing them up to
the show. Terry Francona and the way that he's pulling
that seems the right levers game in and game out
deserves credit and the players deserve credit. But all that
being said, I still do believe that this is a

(59:43):
roster that needs outside help if they are going to
be considered a legit contender. Because it's fun to talk
about them in contention and wild card race and scoreboard watching.
That stuff's fun, But if you want to be considered
a contender, I don't think the roster as is is that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
It just makes you wonder, you know, with the failures
of their previous free agent signings, sure can that be
enough to get them to change their strategy? You know
what I mean? I have no problem with them swinging
and missing on Candelario, on Mustakis, on Will Myers, on

(01:00:20):
other guys, because I can appreciate the aggression. Hey, we're trying,
like hell, we're gonna spend money on a guy that
we think can help us, and so I I am
fine with that. I am fine with swings and misses
as long as you keep swinging, because eventually you'll make contact.
But if you look at it and say, Okay, we're
not good at this, we're not good at acquiring guys

(01:00:42):
in free agency, kind of like the Giants. The Giants
can't get big names to sign in San Francisco because
of the weather and the city and all sorts of
different things, so they'll go and trade for a big
guy like Raphael Devers with a bunch of team control.
If the Reds look at and say, Okay, for some reason,
we stink at this. We can't get free agents to

(01:01:04):
come here for whatever reason, Why can't we then shift
our focus to say, okay, we're gonna be maybe less
aggressive in free agency, but we're gonna be really aggressive
at the trade deadline. Right, Let's maybe move on from
one of those guys that we think is a big
piece of the future because we think this guy can

(01:01:25):
help us right now and for years to come. You know,
Gavin Lux is an example, Brady Singer is an example.
That's what they did. They went and got guys that, Okay,
these are proven big league dudes that can help us, right,
Let's do that at the trade deadline this year. And
instead of maybe taking swings and misses at guys in

(01:01:47):
free agency, more in season acquisition than off season free
agent signings, and not being afraid to move on from
young pieces in the organism. I go back to what
you said last week.

Speaker 3 (01:02:00):
A team that thought they were going to be competing,
maybe not the Arizona Diamondbacks, and a guy like you,
Honey Osuarez, and he's playing at a high level. Guys
like that seem perfect to me. A position of need
at third base, a right handed power bat in the lineup.
Those are the types of things. You know you mentioned
a Roldis Chapman earlier, and how much sense he would
make Two former Reds, but two Reds right now that

(01:02:24):
you take on this roster and a heartbeat and think, Okay,
maybe there's something there if you get them so again,
it's going to be ongoing. The best thing the Reds
can do is can continue to win series, continue to
play well, and it's gonna put increasing pressure on the
front office to make a move to help this team
be viewed as a contender and not one of the

(01:02:45):
teams that's just competing for a wild card spot. Let's
take a break. When we come back for the first
time this week, we'll turn it to you and your
talkbacks with an opportunity to Since he sharts gift card
to be given away on Thursday, we'll do that next
on ESPN fifteen thirty Sinnati Sports Station, a service of
our good friends at Cincy Shorts.

Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
The three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 13 (01:03:11):
All right, bell, let me hear you good loud, Oh world,
oh too ah free, Let's listen to some tow backs.
Let listen to the clouds. Get me a buddant suprack jokes.

(01:03:36):
We hope those other two divern't come back over the room.
Quot totally all dophing comes close.

Speaker 14 (01:03:48):
To the show.

Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
We got hack right, Hello, the stars over to come
on back show.

Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
You know they did reds are winners six of their
last seven series. As we roll into the Monday edition
of your talkbacks, By the way, do we have a.

Speaker 4 (01:04:12):
I don't know if we talked about this last week.
Brenton suitors doing the Harry impression coming out of them,
and I think at the time people were like, what
was that?

Speaker 3 (01:04:22):
And then he confessed that he actually did it as
Terry Francona took him out of the game.

Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
It's also really funny, like Francona loves the impression so much,
so like ask him, what would Harry think about this?

Speaker 6 (01:04:32):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
You, it's all like as Francona took the ball, he
just kind of started laughing. I think Stevenson was the
one that got me because Stephen's like, what is he
just do that? Leaving the field? I love it, have
every bit of it. Uh, what do we do we
we don't have any do we don't have giveaways to
get to today?

Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
Not that I okay, all right, you want me to
double check?

Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
Well, I was just making sure because this is usually
the time we let people know we've been we've been
giving so much stuff away lately.

Speaker 4 (01:04:59):
I almost yeah, let me let me hop on here,
just to make I don't I don't think we do.

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
I know we have another one coming up next week,
which we'll dive into as we as we get closer.
I got nothing Monday, Okay, I got nothing on here.

Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
Well then you need it. You better get your best
talkbacks in. Yes, now I gotta go back to the
talk back. All right, we're gonna go back into the
here we go.

Speaker 15 (01:05:22):
A great Oh god, oh god.

Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
All right, Well that's very nicely done for Dave Parker.

Speaker 16 (01:05:52):
Happy Monday, everybody. We are sixty nine tim Crime ride
days away for next NFL season kicking off, and I'm.

Speaker 4 (01:06:00):
So excited and I just can't hide it.

Speaker 16 (01:06:02):
Red legs four games over five hundred. Look out, mister
talkback President and Ronnie rod Say travels. As you head
back to sunny hot Zona.

Speaker 17 (01:06:10):
Go welcome.

Speaker 16 (01:06:11):
Matt is always out in your city for a class
act like you, my friend, gooda go rst.

Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
Ronnie ron brought some fire back to the naughty man
shut out to Ronnie ron Man.

Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
God just gets it. It's up, guys, big Cahoona, Kentucky.

Speaker 11 (01:06:24):
What a weekend by the Red Still didn't get greedy
and sweet though, But we got to go three and
three on this road trip to hit the seventeen to
ten mark. I set out before five and two against
Rockies Marlins to be fifty two or.

Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
Forty five at the break. Okay, still with Florida, Lamara.

Speaker 11 (01:06:37):
Did you know what I learned down here? If you
take the first three letters of Sweden in Denmark, that
spells Sweden and the remaining spelled Denmark. Also Western Florida
Eastern Oregon one hour apart time zones Western Florida, Central
Eastern Oregon Mountain Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
I actually I saw a clip about that over the weekend,
and that blew my mind. That Western Florida and eastern
ore again are one time zone apart. I don't understand
that's possible. So like the most western side of Florida
is in the central time, in the most eastern, like
little blip in Oregon, the mountains are in mountain time. Boom,

(01:07:18):
Isn't that ridiculous? That is that's hard to fathom.

Speaker 15 (01:07:20):
That is those Reds they are coming rolling around the pace.

Speaker 18 (01:07:27):
On his boat seeds.

Speaker 4 (01:07:33):
Walk.

Speaker 15 (01:07:41):
Yeah, those boys are working hard.

Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
Every little Johnny Cashly done. Wow, we want to.

Speaker 19 (01:07:58):
Do a basic be done.

Speaker 4 (01:08:01):
Got a long week and it's short time to get there.

Speaker 9 (01:08:07):
On Wednesday, throw the team to keep your food all
on the panels something they have a moning Briggs and Eli.

Speaker 18 (01:08:14):
Each time we got runs of mens mincing gabos.

Speaker 9 (01:08:19):
We've all got their rigs and chroming won't be moving them.

Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
Wow man, wow fire starting this day. Man, it's the
Lord and then the Lord nation in the sky screeching halt.

Speaker 18 (01:08:36):
Let's be positive, everybody. Let's everybody be happy. The Reds
are winning, we get a four day work week and
the Bengal season is just right around the corner. What
else could you want?

Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
Love the energy, love the optimism, positivity for the Lord.

Speaker 17 (01:09:00):
Ten from the U. Happy Monday. Hey attended the game yesterday.
I'll tell you what, There is nothing better then I'll
walk off one at home man. Big shout outs to
Ellie Steer and of course my man Willie Beam Danson
baby go red Legs. And also made it on the

(01:09:24):
kiss cam with with my better half yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:09:27):
Go Reds.

Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
Okay, But one day, you know, I thought we'd be
at the point of like the end of June Austin
where we start to be like just thirsting for content.
I thought the Reds were going to slide a little bit.
Not much going on in football. That could have been
one of those one of those daily categories, which of
the in game entertainment values is the best when you

(01:09:50):
go to a baseball game or a football game. Write
that down, kiss, Cam's got to be up there, right,
we'll get to Oh yeah for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
Yeah, my main man Audi its Ice. So the Squealer's
being a trade today.

Speaker 20 (01:10:04):
Traded one of the best defensive players in football for
an aging cornerback who they might move to safety, a
pretty good tight end. But they still have to go
Gett Jackpot Joey twice a year, omarhar Jackson twice a year.

Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
Their defense is already old. I don't know, guys, I
don't think this is a good trade at all for them.

Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
Who Yeah, well, we'll talk more about this in our
number three. And I know micka Fitzpatrick is still I
think he's late twenty's, twenty eight or twenty nine.

Speaker 4 (01:10:39):
Jalen Ramsey's thirty. JOHNO. Smith is thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
But from a sheer football grading standpoint, Ramsey and John O.
Smith were much better than Fitzpatrick last year.

Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
For what it's worth. How about those Reds.

Speaker 21 (01:10:55):
Yeah, every single one of the players have sight off
see backs and Nick Martine is all delivered, uh this
past week with big, big games Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
They're pretenders. Yeah.

Speaker 21 (01:11:11):
I don't think Ramsey's anything. He's he's washed up. He
played in a long stuff division last year over and
played at numbers.

Speaker 7 (01:11:20):
MM about that Fairfield rocking my sensey shirt Crosley Field.
It gives the dimensions. It's a great shirt. Anyway. Can
we stop with the transistor radio onto the pillow?

Speaker 22 (01:11:43):
Please?

Speaker 4 (01:11:45):
What do you think?

Speaker 14 (01:11:46):
Please?

Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
What's a commercial? Was that one of the commercial? We
don't control them. I don't know what he's talking. We
don't control them. I know that people often when they
talk about the big Red machine bring that up. Well,
I used to listen to Marty and Joe with the
transition radio under my pillow. That's a very common story. Sure,
maybe that's what he's referring to. Okay, but we don't

(01:12:08):
do that on this station. I hen't really have those
conversations not here. Don't you be my sn's chili? I'll
be all shred of cheeve won'tgether down in sence sence Okay,
different style.

Speaker 23 (01:12:28):
But in honor of the Big Red Machine, I would
like to coin a phrase, the Big Orange Machine, if
the Bengals were successful in winning at least.

Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
One Super Bowl.

Speaker 23 (01:12:42):
My big question to you is for that phrase the
stick the Big Orange Machine. What would the Bengals need
to achieve for us to hang that title on them
the Big Orange Machine.

Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
I probably have to and maybe two super Bowls. I
don't know if I like that. Yeah, they'd have to
go to like four super Bowls in six years or
something like. The Machine did come on.

Speaker 9 (01:13:11):
Musically inclined to that got teddy La cruise but to
did you abt Spencer Stator Trophy?

Speaker 15 (01:13:24):
Tito in their legs?

Speaker 8 (01:13:25):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Okay, all right, I'll tell you what, man?

Speaker 8 (01:13:37):
That is it?

Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
A music? Monday music is a little loud, man, But
that was good. I drove my car.

Speaker 24 (01:13:44):
Off the road on Friday when Mike in La told
you guys he hasn't known a woman's touch since two
thousand and.

Speaker 17 (01:13:53):
Three, I parked my car, set a prayer and slit
up a cigarette.

Speaker 4 (01:14:01):
Awesome.

Speaker 19 (01:14:02):
Next time you go to a relationship rodeo in Indianapolis.

Speaker 7 (01:14:06):
Can you take along with.

Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
Very good? That is an incredible memory.

Speaker 19 (01:14:14):
Very good. A callback man, Tony Basic hits the male
man now fresh off of a vacation week, many checkond
down at Mira mar Beach a couple of times. But
I guess me and Austin's have fallen awesome from.

Speaker 7 (01:14:33):
Part times baby all times.

Speaker 19 (01:14:36):
Anyway, glad to be back. I can't wait see the
Reds continue to tuck along and you guys have another ever.

Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
Good to hear you back from vacation. Man, they don't
know what that was on. Thank you. Carl Malan at
the loan, he's shooting too, shooting too.

Speaker 14 (01:14:53):
Yeah, Crochet is a monster. The White Sox never should
have traded him. It's hard to be a White Sox fan.
Astros took two out of three. YEA, Cardinals were very hot. Yeah,
love me some Dave Parker, he took over for Clementi.
I would say that's the two best arms ever and

(01:15:13):
right filled the Marlins had won seven.

Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
It's true the fish you're hot. I ever get into
one of those rabbit holes, like as you're laying in
bed and next thing you know, it's forty five minutes
have gone by. I did that the other night about
Gabe Capler all his career. I saw a TikTok this
is great. This dude is a barber in San Francisco
and he posted TikTok of gab Gabe Capler coming in

(01:15:41):
to get his haircut last weekend. Because Gabe Capler, the
former manager of the San Francisco Giants, is now the
assistant GM of the Miami Marlins, right, and it made
me think, Gosh, I forgot all about Gabe Capler and
his Marlins swept the Giants, right, and Giants fans were,
you know, just having a good laugh at it because

(01:16:01):
people liked Gabe Kapler. Yeah, And then you know, I
was like, that's funny. And then they keep winning. The
Marlins won again, and then I was wondering, you know,
could Gabe Kepler maybe return to managing one day? And
people forget Gabe Kapler was on the four Red Sox.
He was managed by Tito Francona, and you know a
lot of Red Sox fans have fawn out of grace

(01:16:24):
with Alex Korra. It's going so well for the Marlins
as of late, they're just a half game back of
the Braves in the NL East. Yeah, you could. In
the Brave they say they're done.

Speaker 14 (01:16:35):
Yeah, Crechet is a monster.

Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
Yep.

Speaker 8 (01:16:39):
Tony Austin Johnny from out Healthy here Tony. Protein, I
feel like has been a big conversation in the world
today because most people think no, Now, working out alone
doesn't give you the games. You got to know also
a protein for the growth of those muscles. So my
question for you is on a daily basis, or even
back when you were, you know, professional athlete, were you
protein conscious during new Like if you went out to

(01:17:01):
eat a restaurant and be like, I gotta order this
to get my protein or no, do you take so
much protein in like a shaker smoothie at the beginning
of the day, It doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (01:17:11):
You were just to roll the balls out. Yeah, I
just roll the balls out. Didn't take care of your
worry about that stuff you should see, worry about what
the Good Lord gifted me with. The answer I can
tell you is he never one thought about that, not much.
The way this guy eats not much. He never once
thought about protein intake. I can promise you that.

Speaker 8 (01:17:32):
Also, if you got in a bar fight, which Bengal
player duo would you rather have on your side in
said fight? Would you rather have Trey Hendrickson and Chase
Brown or would you rather have Joe Burrow.

Speaker 4 (01:17:47):
And Mike Kasiki?

Speaker 8 (01:17:49):
Which which duo would help you out better if if
you needed it in a bar fight?

Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
In a bar fight all factors involved, I'd probably no.
I disagree. I don't think Trey would swing on people.
I think he would in a heartbeat, and Chase would
just run away. Borrow'sknocking, He's not going to swing any
with his right hand. Well, he hits you with his left,
and the length of Mike GASICKI hit you with a
left hand right. Come on.

Speaker 24 (01:18:13):
Hey, I'm not sure if anyone out there knows this,
but the silver Hammer actually refers to an old Beatles song,
and I just wanted to fill you guys in on that,
so you definitely.

Speaker 4 (01:18:25):
Hey, Hey, this guy right here won our Sinsy Shirts
gift card last week, but he didn't answer my email
all so, and I have no name, and I just
have the email, which has a poisonous substance in the
name of the email, so I don't want to give
it out. But hey, guy, check your email. Check your email.

(01:18:46):
Great talk, back though.

Speaker 25 (01:18:48):
Yeah, I think the thing that's set the rents over
the top. If they get a closer, if they can
move Gone into the bollpen, that would definitely make a
bullpen better. I think that bullpen's overperforming a bit. So
if you move him as the setup guy and sing
On as the seventh ending, I think that's strong with
a strong closer.

Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
Do you still if that's the case, do you still
get Pegan's walkout intro as a set up guy and
not a closer?

Speaker 4 (01:19:12):
I don't know why not. I mean if it, if
it positively affects ballpark atmosphere, yeah, just do it, yep.
If you want people feel like games over after the
eighth yeah, put.

Speaker 24 (01:19:23):
Up Tony and Austin. Happy Monday. I'm here the weekend.
Another series win? Yeah, what a week of Andrews had
four goals and two matches, including that forty yard free
kick right before halftime on Saturday. So gott to keep
it up this week? Quick Frank the tank story. My buddies,
roommates good friends with him. The three of them were
out of the Phillis Mets game last year and Philly's

(01:19:44):
were already up. Cassiano's went yard Tank throws up his
hands and says, well, stock market must have crashed.

Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
See you guys, have a good week. Thanks as always,
hot on it. What up, Tony, What up, buddy man?

Speaker 1 (01:19:59):
I have fun home.

Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
But it's back to reality. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 26 (01:20:02):
Back to work, brought to he witting you feel me now?
It's one hundred and fifteen out here anyway. My Reds
are red hot. Winning series is the only thing that
matters right now. Finish drawn to the All Star break.
Put pressure on the front office. Come on, I'm liking
everything I'm seeing from the Benson project. It's all about
the Benson baby, That's what I'm feeling it right now.
Keep on winning Reds and make me forget about football

(01:20:23):
for right now.

Speaker 4 (01:20:24):
Come on, come on, Ronnie, ron any fellas.

Speaker 22 (01:20:29):
It's Adam and I'm just curious as to what you
guys think the secret to the Red successes right now.
Some have said that it's additioned by a subtraction and
the clubhouse cancer is like Candelario and Diaz are gone
and now the team's a little enlightened and having fun
and playing well. I still think they need a big
bat in the outfield and the trade deadliner around thereabouts.

(01:20:53):
And I know there's been talked about the Dodgers, but
what about Schwarber.

Speaker 4 (01:20:58):
Oh man, I think you a better chance of me
playing for the Reds and Kyles Shwarp he's from Middletown, though,
that is true. From Middletown. They love Kyle Schwarber. Yeah,
that would be go get him, Go get Ian happtill
he has just go get his a bar count. See
if Josh Harrison had come out of retires, what's Billy
Hamilton doing? Yeah, not to like totally dump on that idea.

(01:21:19):
I would love to Kyle Schwarp. It's not gonna happen.

Speaker 27 (01:21:24):
Hey, Tony and Audiekin from the Left year. I've ever
told you that when I was a kid and I
started following the Reds in nineteen sixty one, that I
used to lay in the bed and not with a
trenist the radio to my ear and listen to them. Well,
I bet nobody else.

Speaker 19 (01:21:41):
Has ever done that.

Speaker 27 (01:21:43):
He did go to Ridge and go Big Blue.

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
By the way, Ken, that's fantastic. Can you imagine what
the scenes in Philly would be if they took a
guy who's hitting two fifty two with twenty five home
runs over the first half of the year and a
first place team and moved him to the uts.

Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
I don't know if that would work. We could just
stick on theme for the day and just say go
get Castianos. Okay, just bring back all the old guys.
He's in two eighty two. Yeah, he's playing playing well.
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
That was our last very good. Dang, that was very
nice from Ken. Yeah, Kin's making fun of us. But yeah,
I just read this from the New York Post.

Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
That's scary. This listen to. This is a New York Post, Austin.
This is a quote.

Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
Okay, Deshaun Watson taking Shador Sanders quote under his wing
as mentor to the Browns quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:22:34):
Oh boy, you can't read it at the weekend at
Justin Tucker's place. Yeah, you can't like reading that if
you're a Browns fan. No, you can't. You want to
stay away, stay away. I will say that, door. I
will say this though about Deshaun Watson. He appears to
have gotten his life turned around. He got married. He

(01:22:56):
has not been off the field trouble at all. Would
you okay?

Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
If I.

Speaker 4 (01:23:01):
No, I would not on the field he's been terrible,
but off the field. To his credit, since all this
has come out, there have been no issues such maybe,
just maybe all that bad stuff could have turned into

(01:23:24):
something good for Deshaun Watson. You know who better to
tell somebody what not to do than Deshaun Watts.

Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
Sure start with maybe don't drive one hundred miles an
hour back to back weeks. That'd be a start. All right,
let's take a break. You just got married to.

Speaker 4 (01:23:45):
I think it's fair to tell all sides of the story.
But I couldn't get a picture with him if you yet, No,
you crushed me for that. Yeah, you shouldn't have posted
that picture fair enough. If you did, you should have
edited out a little bit.

Since he three to sixty a service of Cincy Shirts
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It is time
for our Postman law Injury Report Injured call eight four
to four. Postman Postman always delivers as it pertains to
the Cincinnati red Legs. Hunter Green is scheduled to throw

(01:25:57):
a bullpen session with the in Boston early this week.
Not sure exactly on the day, but that was reported
late last week. Nuelvee Marte has been playing in Double
A Chattanooga. As Austin you mentioned earlier, he's actually been
playing pretty well in his rehab stint.

Speaker 4 (01:26:14):
Yeah, it's very small sample size, but the last couple
of days you've played better.

Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
Cars struggled early on. Carson Spier is going to begin
a rehab assignment on July third. Graham Ashcraft through a
bullpen session on Friday. He's also scheduled was scheduled for
another one yesterday, and Jake Fraley has mentioned earlier in
the show, is given a shot a cortizone Saturday in
an effort to avoid undergoing surgery and to keep playing

(01:26:38):
for the Cincinnati Reds. That is from a Reds injury standpoint.
How about the upcoming opponents for the Cincinnati Reds listen
to this.

Speaker 4 (01:26:45):
Austin.

Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
Jordan Hicks, he was one of those players acquired in
the trade with right toe information, made a rehab appearance
for Triple A, Boston's affiliate. He's likely to be activated,
they are saying for the series against the Reds arting tonight.
Alex Bregman, who's been dealing with a right quad strain,
took swings for the first time since the injury on

(01:27:06):
June twenty seventh, and did fielding and throwing on the
twenty eighth, giving the team a better idea of when
he could return.

Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
And Uh Masataka.

Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
Yoshidah Yeah, right shoulder labrom terear So batting practice with
the team on June twenty seventh. He's going to begin
a rehab assignment on July first, as it pertains to
the next opponent for the Cincinnati Reds. What about one
Bryce Harper Austin, He's got right wrist inflammation. He's expected
to return to the Phillies lineup as early as tonight.

(01:27:37):
He did take batting practice on the field at Truest
Park on the twenty seventh of June and went through
a couple of minor league at bats.

Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
As Rice should really take his time, yea, and make
sure that that's healed. Don't let that linger into the
second half of the year. You guys are going into
the playoffs. You don't want that to just be nagging you. Bryce,
Don't let it linger. Don't be afraid to just do
what's best for you. Man.

Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
That is our Postman Law Injury Report Injured call eight
four to four Postman Postman Delivers, delivers Austin. What are
the results right now of our end show? Results from
our poll.

Speaker 4 (01:28:10):
Question revivefitnessystems dot com. Poll question brought to you by
Revivefitnesssystems dot com. Go check out PJ Star Coach. Get
yourself turned around? This is a blowout tone which defense
scares you the most? Ravens or Steelers? Eighty four percent,
say Ravens. Ravens, I'm a little confused by the eighty

(01:28:36):
four percent. Well, I was too, because you talked about
prior to the show and something we'll get into TJ.
Watt's existence right well three minutes ago from Adam Schefter
of ESPN. In recent weeks, multiple teams have been discussing
whether they can trade for TJ. Watt. Wow, what skipped

(01:29:00):
the team's most recent mini camp, and Pittsburgh has not
shown any willingness to trade him so far, but Schefter
says he is unhappy with his contract situation, and sources
believe outside team interest is likely to increase given today's trade.

(01:29:23):
So maybe, just maybe TJ. Watt now could find the door.
If TJ. Watt is not there, then my answer is
easily the Ravens. I agree. But if it's TJ.

Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
Watt and it's Cam Hayward and it's those pieces assembled
in the second Smith, that is a lot more intimidating
look at that, I think. And again, I just don't
think Baltimore can affect a passer as much as Pittsburgh can.

Speaker 4 (01:29:50):
If TJ.

Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
Watt is the unhealthy now, if not, I would lean
back to Baltimore, and you know who knows, Austin. Maybe
Mike Green comes onto the scene in Baltimore as a
Rookie of the Year type candidacy on the defensive line.
But as of right now, if it is TJ. Watt Man,
that that to me is still the Pittsburgh Steelers. But

(01:30:14):
I understand why there could be some back and forth
from a Bengals point of view. We'll discuss an hour three,
why it probably wouldn't hurt Trey Hendrickson to just kind
of sit back and wait this out with TJ. Watt,
with Micah Parsons as well, we'll talk about a Bengal
player that we think maybe is being slept on. We'll

(01:30:35):
talk about the latest from Shamar Stewart. Is there an update?
Tom Pellisero gave a little bit of one on Friday
that will play you. It's about two and a half minutes.
And Paul Danner Junior listed his top lingering question for
the Cincinnati Bengals that ties into a ranking that I
saw earlier today. So we'll dive into all of these

(01:30:56):
things in the third and final hour, along with the
trade that the Pittsburgh Steelers made earlier this afternoon. So
all of that's still ahead, and of course your phone
calls at five, one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty,
This is Cincy three sixty thanks to Cincy Shirts back

Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
Hey, welcome back, Happy to have you along. It's the
third and final hour of the Monday edition of Cincy
three to sixty and we're thankful for our friends at
Penn Station. Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station or via the iHeartRadio app. Phone lines
will open now for the remainder of today's sho until
we get the quick hits with MO five one, three, seven, four, nine,

(01:32:04):
fifteen thirty. The news of the day from an NFL
standpoint was a trade that happened earlier today. The Pittsburgh
Steelers send Menca Fitzpatrick, their safety to the Miami Dolphins
and in return acquire John ow Smith and Jalen Ramsey. Now,
both Jalen Ramsey and John Osmith are thirty years old,

(01:32:26):
but according to Pro Football Focus, still playing really good football.
Jalen Ramsey graded out of a seventy six point nine
last year. That's top fifteen from a corner standpoint in
the NFL and John ow Smith seventy eight point two
graded out as a top five tight end in the
NFL last year. For what it's worth, MECKA. Fitzpatrick was
a sixty eight point four. Uh, but that was the

(01:32:47):
news from an NFL standpoint earlier today. That was obviously
a trade that sends shockwaves throughout the AFC North. When
you look at what the Baltimore Ravens did last week
with Jaii Alexander, teams are obviously ocpying at the corner
in the secondary position, and you got to think the
Bengals have a large hand in causing a lot of

(01:33:08):
that with the problems that they can create with T.
Higgins and Jamar Chase. Now, since then it has come
out and Austin hit this right before the break, Adam
Schefter tweeted out that there are teams around the NFL
discussing the possibility the possibility of TJ. Watt becoming available

(01:33:30):
via trade just because TJ. Watt is at this point
not happy with his current deal that with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers obviously have not made up enough ground to
make it feel like they're moving in that direction. So
Schefter did put out that maybe there are teams thinking
that with today's move, that could be a possibility. Now
I say this, Austin. If that is the possibility and TJ.

(01:33:54):
Watt is not with the Pittsburgh Steelers, then I take
back what I said, and I don't think they're a threat.

Speaker 4 (01:33:59):
I think TJ.

Speaker 3 (01:33:59):
Watt makes them a threat with that defense as it
is sure, this is a trade that feels like and
Jordan Schultz tweeted this earlier. The Steelers are making things clear.
It's a new era of football, aggressive, bold and willing
to build. However it takes Jalen Ramsey, DK Metciff, John
ou Smith making the playoffs isn't the goal? Chasing a

(01:34:23):
Super Bowl is, And as Jordan Schultz says, they're going
for it. At the same time, we talked about what
the Baltimore Ravens have done in going for it, and
you have to wonder, as we sit here today, in
your opinion, are the Bengals going for it? I think

(01:34:45):
that's a fair question when you look at what the
AFC North has done this offseason. Now at the same time,
do you just want to pick up the phone to
the Steelers and say, Okay, we'll go Watt for Hendrickson
straight up?

Speaker 4 (01:35:00):
Would that be fair? Both sides happy? Bring TJ.

Speaker 3 (01:35:04):
Watt to Cincinnati, throw in something with it, give him
Trey Hendrickson. Because here's the ultimate. The Trey Hendrickson dynamic
is fascinating to me because now, if you're Trey Hendrickson Austin,
you hold no leverage by signing a contract anytime soon. Right,
Your leverage would come once TJ. Watt and Micah Parson

(01:35:27):
signed their deal. Now, it's not likely that Hendrickson was
ever going to reset the market. Do you know which
players can reset the market?

Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
TJ.

Speaker 3 (01:35:35):
Watt and Michah Parsons. And so let's say they get
up to Miles Garrett money forty or more a year
in annual value. Well, if you're Trey Hendrickson, you can
then come back and say, I don't need forty million
a year. I just want thirty three to thirty four
million a year. If you're Trey Hendrickson, the best path forward,

(01:35:58):
I believe is to get the deal done, or is
to wait on getting the deal, Because if you're TJ. Watt,
you're not sitting back saying, well, let's wait till Trey
Hendrickson gets paid, because that's not going to reset the
market for you anyway. Parsons, what could in in all
likelihood one of them is going to reset the market.

(01:36:18):
So if you're Trey Hendrickson, all of a sudden you say, oh,
that's why you know today's price isn't always tomorrow's price. Now,
with the market reset, I'm at least worth thirty three
to thirty four million a year if that's the case. Austin,
how long does this now play out for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 4 (01:36:38):
I don't know that the timeline has really changed. I
don't know that it really changes anything. I've always kind
of believed either Tredy's gonna play or he's not, and
we'll find out that Saturday before the Bengals go to
Cleveland to start the season. I don't know that that
has really changed. I don't know that it's going to change.

(01:37:00):
If Watt signs today, if Parsons signs tomorrow, is that
gonna make the deal happen any sooner? I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
If anything, it would make Hendrickson dig in more on
what he wants exactly. So I still see this playing
out the same way. Jamar Chase and Jesse Bates did,
which is that they're gonna come to training camp and
they're gonna not say anything and not do anything, and

(01:37:28):
they'll quietly, secretly be getting ready for the start of
the season and they'll make a decision prior to the
first game whether or not they want to play.

Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
I don't see the Bengals budging on this, So I
don't see if those guys because I still don't think
it's the amount of money that's the biggest issue. I
think it's the length. So is a Watt deal and
a Parsons deal gonna change the length? I don't think.

(01:37:58):
So that's what we keep hearing is the length. The
Bengals are probably like, yeah, we'll give you twenty eight
million for another year, and Trey's like, no, I want
like two years, And the Bengals like, we're not going
to do that. And they're certainly not going to do
it at thirty three million for an extra year.

Speaker 8 (01:38:16):
No.

Speaker 26 (01:38:18):
So my.

Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
I think everybody would be happy if it was two years,
sixty million dollars. Yeah, you'd probably get that done, I
would think, But the Bengals, for whatever reason, don't want
to add on that extra year. So at this point
I'm making is I don't know that those are as
connected as maybe it might seem like it would help

(01:38:46):
Trey if he wanted more money, But is that what
he wants?

Speaker 3 (01:38:49):
So, because we talked about this before, so we both
think that Shamar Stewart deal is going to get done.

Speaker 4 (01:38:53):
Yeah, I would assume so.

Speaker 3 (01:38:55):
And we'll play a little bit of what Tom Pelisaro
had to say on fraud later on Friday last week
with Dan Patrick about the latest from Shamar Stewart. But
if Schamar gets done and this leaks into camp and
kind of what we discussed earlier, does this then become
one of those things where here comes the Saturday before

(01:39:18):
game one and we're kind of holding our breath seeing, Okay,
is Trey Hendrickson's gonna get on the plane?

Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:39:23):
Is he going to travel to Cleveland? Is he going
to load the bus up when this team goes and
plays in Cleveland? And if not, what does that mean
for this defense going forward? A defensive line who By
the way, last week we talked about Pro Football Focus
and their rankings. They ranked the Bengals twenty fifth from
a defensive line standpoint, So it's a d line that

(01:39:45):
needs all hands on deck without a doubt.

Speaker 4 (01:39:49):
But again my take.

Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
Immediately when seeing and thinking about Trey Hendrickson, you're in
no rush at all. Right now you came, and if
you're in Trey Hendricks's mind, you wanted to negotiate in
good faith this offseason because from what he said, he
was promised something and that promise hasn't been delivered on
now you're gonna dig your heels in. And as Austin

(01:40:14):
just mentioned, the Bengals aren't one that are going to
cross back over that line. They're gonna They're gonna dig
their heels in. Trey Hendrickson is gonna dig his heels in.
We're gonna sit back and watch what happens with Parsons,
and watch what happens with TJ Watt, and probably watch
the asking price go back up even more for Trey Hendrickson.
And then the decision comes, do you do you try
to trade him? Do you do you try to acquire
something in return for Trey Hendrickson that could help you

(01:40:37):
this season?

Speaker 4 (01:40:38):
What does that look like?

Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
But in the backdrop of all this, Austin is something
we've referred to for the Reds and for the Bengals
multiple times aggressive pursuits of championships and while other teams
are actively moving their chips in, can you be a
team to just kind of sit back and say, we're
We're okay where we're at.

Speaker 4 (01:40:59):
We don't need to do anything here.

Speaker 3 (01:41:03):
And what does the active pursuit of a championship look
like if you're a Bengals fan. Is it paying Trey
Hendrickson the thirty million he once over two years? Is
that the active pursuit or is it moving on and
getting something out of Trey Hendrickson?

Speaker 4 (01:41:18):
Is that how you?

Speaker 1 (01:41:19):
So?

Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
What is your definition as a listener of the active
pursuit of a champion of a championship? Because I would
imagine the message that is being sent in Pittsburgh right
now is what we just read from Jordan Schultz aggressive
win now, not make the playoffs, compete for a super Bowl?

(01:41:41):
Win now mode Baltimore. You can make the argument win
now mode Buffalo, Kansas City and Travis Kelsey has talked
about going all in and making a run at this.
Kansas City seems to be on Buffalo. Can you just
kind of be president at the table and say, well,
I know, for essentially all in but we got Joe
Burrow and Jamar Chase and T Higgins, so that makes

(01:42:04):
up for enough. What is your definition of the active
pursuit of a championship?

Speaker 4 (01:42:13):
And the other thing too, is like, I don't know
how you can justify if you're the Bengals. Let's say
that that is your mindset. We've got Burrow, We've got Chase,
we've got Higgins. With those three, we have a chance.
I don't really disagree with that. I think that's true,
and I think we saw that last year. But how

(01:42:35):
can you subscribe to that mentality if you're not willing
to do whatever it takes to then protect Joe Burrow
the offensive line? To me, we did it. We ranked
the position groups last week. It's still awful. It's still
a major question mark. I don't feel I don't sleep

(01:42:55):
well at night thinking about that group. What if Amarus
Mims takes a step back. What if Orlando Brown Junior's
injuries return? What if Ted Carris starts to show his
age and Lord knows who the guards are going to be.
You got thirty million dollars in cap space and you
haven't signed a better guard, right and they chose not

(01:43:16):
to draft what many would have thought would be a
better guard. Now, maybe Lucas Patrick has a great camp.
Maybe Dylan Fairchild is a dude. That's cool. I hope
he is. But I look at it and say, okay, well, okay,
if this is your method, if you're gonna invest in
the offense, you better protect the quarterback because if he
goes down, this whole thing's over. And so that to

(01:43:40):
me is like the biggest thing. Okay, you don't want
to pay tray and you want to have fine, I
can live with that move, but there has to be
some sort of trickle down effect where that money or
that capital is invested in another part of the roster.
And I haven't seen that. I think you make that
argument for safety as well, say okay, well, if we're

(01:44:03):
not going to be as strong up front, let's bolster
the back end. Justin Simmons, Justin Simmons, Jay yr Alexander,
who the Bengals were interested in and then weren't interested in.
And I'm still scratching my head over that. So, I mean,
they've got water around thirty thirty two million in cap space.
If you don't get a deal with Hendrickson done, there's

(01:44:23):
no way you go into the season with that much
cap space, And even if you double Hendrickson's deal and
you pay him thirty two million dollars, you're still only
paying sixteen more million. You'd have another sixteen million available
in which you could get starters for that at guard
or at safety or at corner. So you know, I'm

(01:44:46):
often defensive of the Bengals, But this is the part
here that I have a hard time dealing with. Is
because you see Baltimore and Pittsburgh in the way that
they are going after it and trying to maximize the
window that they have with their quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:45:04):
And they are making a statement to you that we
know what you do really well, and this is how
we're gonna try to counter it.

Speaker 4 (01:45:11):
And so how could you say that the Bengals did
that correct? I think maybe a response to Baltimore in
the way that they bolstered their run game. But you
don't feel like, gosh, they're gonna shut them down. Yeah,
you don't feel like, Man, the Bengals run defense is
so much better. You don't.

Speaker 3 (01:45:27):
I mean, I'll be honest right now. I know it's
an older Aaron Rodgers, Friarmuth, and John hu Smith are.
That's a matchup problem for some defenses. And we've talked
in Cincinnati about what who's going to be that drop
down corner. Who's going to be the safety that comes
in that that's gonna help against the past. Is there
a line by that can match up? But Keem Davis
Gaither for what he was, he was at least good

(01:45:48):
in coverage. I think there are teams in the North
that are making moves that directly correlate to what the
Bengals are aren't doing. And if you're the Bengals, I
don't think you can just sit back and keep waiting
and waiting and waiting for something to happen.

Speaker 4 (01:46:08):
You've got to go do it.

Speaker 3 (01:46:10):
Because the price of Hendrickson is only going to go
up when these other deals get done.

Speaker 4 (01:46:16):
It's only gonna go up.

Speaker 3 (01:46:19):
The remaining safeties or guards available are eventually gonna get
picked up. We're gonna wait till cutdowns in camp and
find someone off the waiver wire. I don't think that's
necessarily the way to go. But for as good as
the top end of this team is, again, there are

(01:46:40):
many many questions on the defensive side of the ball,
and as Paul Daniel Junior put it, which we're gonna
talk about when we get back. There might even be
a bigger question on the other side of the ball.
Let's talk about the offense and let's talk about one
lingering question when we get back. Since e three to
sixty on ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks

(01:47:00):
Penn Station.

Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
Now your chance to win one thousand dollars Cincy three
sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 4 (01:47:23):
Welcome back, it is sincey three sixty.

Speaker 3 (01:47:26):
In the third hour, phone lines will be open five one, three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty as we talk more about the
Cincinnati Bangers. We could talk to you about anything that
you want. It's a Monday, so we'll give you a
little power with that as well. Moweggor's going to join
us for quick Hits in just a bit before we
get to any of that, Austin, one of the things
you wrote down, I know for the show today is

(01:47:46):
is what Paul Danner Junior had to say and what
he wrote about UH with the athletic who kind of
went through each team and listed the top lingering question
remaining UH for each team across the NFL. And while
I think the angles have a lot see defensive line
is a question. One could argue, linebacker is a question.
One could argue safety is a question. Well, one could

(01:48:08):
argue that corner is a question. But to the point
you made and uh in reading the article, it was
a different direction that Paul Dayner junior took and it's
it's a direction that's becoming harder to ignore right and
that would be the position of guard for this Bengals team. Yeah,
we have Again we described this when we ranked these

(01:48:29):
units last week. You have Orlando Brown junior back. You
have Ted Kriss back. Both are very good players. Are
they going to be top players at their position in
the NFL? Probably not, Probably not the top top couple
players at their position in the NFL. You have a
player at right tackle who you hope takes this year

(01:48:51):
two leap and is going to become one of the
best tackles in football. But as we've seen it every sport,
there are sometimes sophomore slumps. You know why, because other
teams build up more of a game plan and a
scouting report against you.

Speaker 4 (01:49:08):
What do you do well, what do you struggle with?

Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
And they try to exploit that because they have a
full off season of tape to diagnose. And then what
remains is a huge question at guard and I guess
you could say a training camp battle to see how
that position gets settled. So as we go in to today,

(01:49:35):
I take a step further sharp football analysis. I believe
this is Warren Sharp. He went through with his staff
and ranked just two days ago, so this is not
the beginning of the offseason. Two days ago, they went
through as a staff and ranked every offensive line in football,

(01:49:57):
all thirty two teams. The top of the list the
Philadelphia Eagles. The Baltimore Ravens check in at number eight,
The Buffalo Bills check in at number nine, both considered contenders.
The Chiefs kind of right in the middle at number eighteen.
You've got to find all the way down the list

(01:50:21):
behind the Houston Texans at thirty two before you get
to the Cincinnati Bengals, who they rank right now as
their thirty first best for offensive line in football. It
says this Cincinnati's patchwork offensive line ranked no higher than
twenty eighth on any of the ballots that the staff did.

(01:50:41):
Cordell Volson and Alex Kappa ranked ninety seven and ninety
eight have one hundred and three linemen in pressure rate allowed.
Last year they had free agent Lucas Patrick and rookie
Dylan Fairchild to try and take over and upgrade those spots.
So Austin, when you get together a staff, not just
one person, and that staff comes back, no one on
the staff gives the Bengals a nod of over twenty eighth.

(01:51:04):
From an offensive line standpoint, Should we be talking more
about the offensive line as we approach training camp on
July twenty.

Speaker 4 (01:51:12):
Third, I mean, I feel like we haven't stopped talking
about it.

Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
I think I made the mistake early on of just saying, Okay,
Orlando Brown, Junior marus Men's Ted Carris, we're solid there
right fill the gaps elsewhere.

Speaker 4 (01:51:27):
Yeah, I guess it's just maybe there's too much of
an idea that those three are gonna be fine and
they aren't going to be a potential problem. It's just
going to be the two guard spots. Maybe. Yeah, maybe
that's something we haven't talked about enough, is the depth
of the offensive line behind them. You got like Jackson
Kirkland and Matt Lee, and you know, maybe Jalen Rivers

(01:51:49):
can ended up being something that they late picked that
they had. But yeah, I mean, I think it should
start kind of with them, like it's it's or organizational
organizational malpractice to not have an offensive line that has
depth and is well paid, highly skilled, Like they just

(01:52:13):
haven't done a good job developant again, developing again. They're
putting hope in the idea of a regime change. Now,
if the Bengals hit on all this, they're gonna be nasty.

Speaker 14 (01:52:22):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:52:23):
If Al Golden works and if Jerry Montgomery works, and
if Scott Peters works, then you know, bang bang Bank
Bengals are gonna be fine. Yeah, but it's unlikely that
all those are gonna work out perfectly and you're number one.

Speaker 3 (01:52:36):
Yeah, it's just again, I Joe Burrows never had the
offensive line he deserves. And if the folks at Sharp
Football Analysis are close on their rankings, then you would
certainly worry about where the Bengals slide at number thirty one.
And again, I view austin the Bengals offensive line just

(01:52:57):
like I be I do the defense. We're not here
pounding the table thinking what they've got to be one
of the top ten offensive lines in football? Can they
be a top twenty. Can they be a top half
of the league offensive line? Is that too much to
ask for the unit that they've assembled right here? Is

(01:53:18):
that on the table? And I think to your point,
you hope that with a regime change and a new
scheme and the step, you hope a Marius Mims take,
and you hope that you hit you know, on on on,
Dylan Fairchild, Cody Ford, Lucas Patrick and you've you've got

(01:53:40):
this patchwork job of offense. Again, no one has asked
to have a top ten offensive line. Joe Burrows never
had an offensive line in my opinion that a star
quarterback should be lining up behind. But look what he's
done with it. And it goes back to the conversation
I think we had in the last segment, Austin. If

(01:54:02):
you've got thirty two million dollars sitting on the table
and you're not doing anything with Trey Hendrickson, then what
are you doing not protecting Joe Burrow?

Speaker 17 (01:54:09):
More?

Speaker 3 (01:54:12):
What are you doing not taking care of your investment
in the best way possible. I mean, there are analytics
out there, There is data out there that shows that
would tell you Joe Burrow is the best quarterback in
the NFL, that the pressure rate when applied to other
quarterbacks that Joe Burrows have to deal with, that that

(01:54:32):
those quarterbacks do not translate to the numbers and the
stats that Joe Burrow has put up. You have one of,
if not the best throwers of the football in the
National Football League. You can't you can't go to the
table on July twenty third without upgrading at all, can you,

(01:54:56):
Especially if you've got money sitting there.

Speaker 4 (01:54:59):
You would think you would think it would just be
hard to take them seriously. If that's the case, and
if we get to this, you know, get to a
point in the season in which this is an issue
again and you're playing musical chairs. I don't I don't
want to.

Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
I don't have the exact quote, but I remember we
had Dan hord On leading up to the draft and
he mentioned guard as as one of his biggest needs
and they did address it with fair Child.

Speaker 4 (01:55:28):
Which I think he's gonna start, by the way, I
think he's gonna win the job. And then again, and
if he does, I'm sure he'll have earned it. But
your first start in the NFL is going to be
in Cleveland, and you know they're gonna put Miles Garrett
up against you, even if he's a guard over the
face goes everywhere, and again you would be relying on

(01:55:50):
a rookie to protect Joe Burrow, which you know they
did that for a good chunk of last year with
the Marusmims. I get it, but every time you do that,
rolling the dice, Yeah, I mean, Joe was so awesome
last year, but so much of it was because he
was running for his life. It is like the offscript

(01:56:11):
about everything. Yeah, it's just he didn't have any chance. Yeah,
So to me, it's it's always going to start with
that and then go from the defense and then go
to the defense.

Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
I should say more to come your phone call five one, three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty. It is the Home of the Bengals,
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, A service of our
friends at Penn Station.

Speaker 7 (01:56:33):
ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:56:35):
Did you know if you're an adult living with that,
who's out for the season?

Speaker 3 (01:56:39):
Getting ESPN is fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.

Speaker 4 (01:56:48):
Hey, welcome back.

Speaker 3 (01:56:49):
Since he three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station,
A service at Penn Station. Rolling Along, It's been a busy,
busy Monday. Reds back in action tonight in Boston. Chase
Burns night start number two. Really hard to build on
what he did in start number one, but a very

(01:57:09):
good opportunity. Not as potent as an offense, but a
road trip, a road test to Fenway Park to make
your second Major League Baseball start. Big stuff for Chase
Burns and the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Uh, the NFL has
been busy today. Jalen Ramsey and John hu Smith are
Pittsburgh Steelers. In return, Minka Fitzpatrick is now a Miami Dolphin.

(01:57:32):
It led uh Tyreek Hill to put that meme out
with Will Smith from the fresh Prince of bel Air
just standing in the room by himself. Really feel for
for Tyreek Hill at this point. What are the Miami
Dolphins in all of this?

Speaker 4 (01:57:43):
Austin? Just not that good? Just that's a game, just
a team Jack Careful. Yeah, that's a game that's gonna
be flex out of Sunday Night Football almost guarantee that.
And what a the shine has come off that team quickly? Yeah,
I mean you talk about hot seats. Mike McDaniel's got

(01:58:04):
a hot seat, and you know, to their credit. They
spent a lot and they tried, and they put together
a pretty decent roster. Quarterback injuries, some offensive line injuries.
In playing in a division with Buffalo, it just really
kind of hurt them. Yeah, and they weren't able to
overcome it. Let's take a call. I got Dick from Dayton.

(01:58:24):
Also played a playoff game in Kansas City when it
was like minus six degrees. In another playoff game in
Buffalo and it was snowing. Yep, you know, not built
for the cold. They ain't built for it. What's up,
Dick from Dayton?

Speaker 12 (01:58:37):
How are you doing?

Speaker 15 (01:58:39):
Hey?

Speaker 12 (01:58:39):
I like what you said about the Bengals. That was
really good. You know, we got the three back and
like you said, you got to protect the quarterback. But
I really think I see at least if they're healthy,
I'd say eleven games.

Speaker 1 (01:58:55):
So when this year?

Speaker 4 (01:58:56):
Okay, I like that.

Speaker 8 (01:58:58):
I like that I do.

Speaker 12 (01:58:59):
I'll tell you what my friend Dave, he we were talking,
you know about the But the Reds have done pretty
good the first half. You know, the offense has been
pretty good, and now the second half is what's going
to count?

Speaker 4 (01:59:13):
Right, Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker 3 (01:59:14):
They've made it a point that it's going to be
interesting in the second half. That that you have to
pay attention to what they've done. They've kept stride through
a hard month of June, but they still got a
lot of work to do in the schedule certainly continues
to get tough.

Speaker 12 (01:59:28):
Yeah, it does.

Speaker 8 (01:59:29):
Hey.

Speaker 12 (01:59:29):
You know what though, I've told everybody, Dave made my
day picking me up together. That is a beautiful Oh yeah, radio,
I enjoyed talking to you guys there. It made my day.

Speaker 9 (01:59:40):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (01:59:41):
You know, well, thank you, Dick. We appreciate that. Thank you.

Speaker 12 (01:59:44):
Okay, well I'll come back sometime.

Speaker 4 (01:59:46):
Okay, we'll do. We'll do. Yep, have a great Monday.
There we go.

Speaker 3 (01:59:52):
Eleven wins, says Dick for the Cincinnati Bengals. Mike is
also calling in. What's up, Mike, Sorry to call the lady.

Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
Guys. I appreciate you letting me on.

Speaker 4 (02:00:01):
Don't worries.

Speaker 1 (02:00:02):
Hope you both had a good weekend. I kept trying
to call al w all weekend. I never could get on.
It was like I was cursed or something. I had
the hex on me. It was nuts.

Speaker 4 (02:00:13):
Probably too busy. Those phone lines are probably too busy.

Speaker 1 (02:00:16):
Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, I was so sad about
the Cobra. You know, I actually played a baseball game.
He's a year older than me. I played a baseball
game against him in high school and dude, he was
a giant dude then, Yeah, he was intimidating. We showed
up and thought he was a coach. Yeah, just as
he looked older and he was so much bigger, and it.

Speaker 3 (02:00:36):
Was like he was one of those guys like in
many ways, larger than life. I mean, people, if you
don't see he was, I mean he was every bit
of six'. FIVE i mean he was a, towering towering.
Man and, uh the way he could put a charge
into a baseball and not just, that but his defense as,
well how strong his arm was Was it's.

Speaker 4 (02:00:54):
Unbelievable it was, unbelievable you.

Speaker 1 (02:00:57):
KNOW i finally found WONDER i kept, wondering what the
how how The reds got That Big Red machine. Nickname
finally found out a guy Named Bob, hunter who was
a sports writer for The La. Times he's in The
hall Of fame now, writer A hall Of fame. Writer
he came up with the nickname The Big Red machine
because like in sixty nine and he dubbed them that

(02:01:18):
because they had. That they didn't Have morgan, yet but
they had Pres rose and bench and. Concepcion and the
Big lee made a big bosper at, first and he
said they just hit the ball so hard they were
like a. Machine so that was the origination of of
the of the term big. Revuation very. Cool, YEAH i
thought it was kind of. COOL i just. HOPE i
hate to change the subject real, quick but you're talking

(02:01:40):
about that offensive. LINE i don't Hope. JOE i Hope
joe don't get. HURT i just hope and pray To
god you don't get.

Speaker 4 (02:01:46):
Hurt, YEAH i mean.

Speaker 3 (02:01:47):
That that to, me that that's always been WHAT i
go back, to is that you know you can you
can get by in THE nfl for a time if
your pass rush isn't what it needs to, be or
if you're missing a wide, receiver or you can't get
by if your elite quarterback doesn't play seventeen, games and
the only way to make sure he plays seventeen is

(02:02:08):
to make sure he's protected up.

Speaker 1 (02:02:09):
Front that's the way it, Changed. Tony you ought to. Know,
hell you were behind the, center you. Know that's how
important it is not to mention this plays being more
successful and all that.

Speaker 15 (02:02:20):
Stuff it's the.

Speaker 3 (02:02:21):
Mental side as. Well if you're a quarterback and you
know what the group is in front of, you you're
not worried about. That you're more worried about what's happening
down the. Field if you start to have to concern
yourself up, front all of a, sudden maybe your eyes
come down a little, bit maybe you miss somebody because
you're watching what's going up on the offensive. Line so
it is when there's a confidence in that group ahead of,
you it unlocks another part of the, game Which Joe

(02:02:43):
burrow hasn't even had the chance to unlock yet because
he's just not been.

Speaker 1 (02:02:47):
Protected, yeah it just doesn't seem fair to. Me it
just seems so. STUPID i did hear a comment earlier
today that they said the teams that have been recently so,
successful like The, chiefs the The, rams they spend their
spend their money almost exclusively on. Offense, yeah and then
the teams Like pittsburgh and The giants and a few

(02:03:08):
other teams just keep spending money on defense and they
never win. Nothing.

Speaker 3 (02:03:11):
YEAH i feel like IT'S i feel like it's easier
to hit at times on the offensive side of the
ball than it is to defense and how they're going
to fit into the scheme and everyone playing around. You whereas,
offensively because you have that quarterback in, place you can
kind of pick and choose how to fill those. Voids
but there is a void up front on the offensive
line for The bengals that does still need to be.

Speaker 1 (02:03:31):
FILLED i got one last thing on the. Ridge i'm
not so sure that this home run hitter we say
we need is really a valid. Point And i'll tell you.
Why you look at the home run but the team
in The National league In baseball with the fewest amount
of home, runs he's The Milwaukee. Brewers they only have
seventy seven home. Runs The reds are thirteenth or fourteenth

(02:03:54):
with ninety ninety one ninety. Two The cardinals are a
place or two ahead of, them with maybe three or
four more home. Runs i'm not so sure that's what we.
NEED i just think baseball to, parody with the exception
of five or six teams, anymore it's just so much
defense and little. Stuff and do you get a team

(02:04:15):
at the right time they're, tired you know What i'm.
SAYING i think there's so many variables that don't have
anything to do with stuff that can be quantified all the.

Speaker 15 (02:04:24):
Time.

Speaker 4 (02:04:24):
Yeah, no that's fair, too.

Speaker 1 (02:04:26):
Because otherwise The reds wouldn't be doing as well as they're. Doing,
Sure so, anyway, GUYS i appreciate the.

Speaker 3 (02:04:32):
Time, Thanks thank, You, mike appreciate the phone. Call, yeah
it's interesting that the power numbers because WHEN i View Milwaukee,
AUSTIN i view them as a that's more of a
hit for average. TEAM i just don't think The reds
hit for enough, average which then think the answer for
me with then, okay then find more. Power if you're

(02:04:53):
having trouble generating runs by getting the run around and
then hitting them over and then getting them in on
a sack. Fly The reds don't make consistent contact enough
in my, opinion to be that small ball baseball. Team
and if you're not going to be, that then, say,
okay who do we need to? Be then we need
to be a team that can hit the ball out
of the ballpark and you add a power back. It
so much of it goes on the roster, construction but

(02:05:14):
it does who you're playing at which. Time all that plays.
In for, sure The reds are certainly in a good
run of it now they look to continue that. Tonight
we look to continue this show for one more segment
next With moegger ON espn fifteen Thirty Cincinnati Sports.

Year Jalen ramsey top fifteen in the. League Micka fitzpatrick was,
Okay but Both ramsey And john Whu SMITH i think
are upgrades to what they have now. Agreed whether they
get a deal done WITH. Tj, watt it's a different,
topic but it would certainly appear in the last two

(02:09:02):
weeks that The ravens and The Pittsburgh steelers have both
made moves to signify that they're going all in and
also made moves understanding we see You, cincinnati and this
is what we're doing to try to counter. That, yeah
has The bengals done the.

Speaker 9 (02:09:15):
SAME i don't think they've done anything in reaction to
what's happened in THE Afc. NORTH i mean, LIKE i
feel like in their minds they're going all in because
we Have Joe, burrow we brought back To. Higgins we
haven't Traded Trey. Hendrickson SO i think in their minds
they're going all. In but they're taking a big bet
on a bunch of guys on defense who have done

(02:09:35):
next to.

Speaker 3 (02:09:35):
Nothing you Mentioned, hendrickson there's no rush if you're him
to sign. Anything you WANT. Tj watt to get, paid
you Want Micah parsons to get. Paid they're probably gonna
get forty a. Year and then you come back and, say,
well twenty eight's off the. Table but if they're getting,
FORTY i get thirty three thirty. FOUR i, mean if you,
are if You're Trey, hendrickson we mentioned this, today does
this feel like this becomes closer and closer to a

(02:09:56):
situation where we're waiting on The saturday to see if
he gets on the bus to go To.

Speaker 9 (02:09:59):
Cleveland doesn't it feel like that's where we're, Going like
where you know what's gonna. HAPPEN i think what's gonna
SIGN i think is gonna be. There this thing With
Trey hendrickson just feels like it's gonna drag. On camp
will come and, Go they'll practice On, monday they'll Take tuesday,
off and then The wednesday before the first, game like
that night you'll hear, rumblings, well The bengals And trey Hendricks,
center they're, talking and Then thursday it'll start to kick

(02:10:21):
in the. Gear and then By, friday we're gonna be
On trey. Watch and then On, saturday before they leave For,
cleveland he signs the. Deal then of course game one
pitch Count, yep he's on a pitch.

Speaker 4 (02:10:31):
Count.

Speaker 9 (02:10:31):
YEAH i JUST i feel like this is almost an.
INEVITABILITY i refuse to believe that there's not some room
for middle ground. Here will you go to tray and, Go, okay,
look we get it twenty. Eight it's not gonna, work
but we're not.

Speaker 4 (02:10:42):
Gonna give you.

Speaker 9 (02:10:42):
Forty, yeah there has to be room in there somewhere
to achieve some common. Ground but if You're. Trey aren't
you kind of also waiting to see, if, like is
there an injury an edge for The, Bengals like you
know you're not rooting for, it but does something increase
The bengals level of desperation to get a deal With Trey.
Dunn that's What i'm waiting for If i'm.

Speaker 3 (02:11:04):
Him, Also Paul Danner junior listed the top lingering question
for The Cincinnati bengals as. Guard the folks At Sharp
football got, together not Just, warren but the whole staff got.

Speaker 4 (02:11:16):
Together the entire.

Speaker 3 (02:11:17):
Staff not one staff member ranked The bengals higher than
twenty eighth from an offensive line. Standpoint as a, collective
they have The bengals as a thirty first ranked offensive.
Line was a little surprised to see. That Amrius mems
there have been sophomore. Slumps carris is. GOOD i don't
know if he's. Great Orlando Brown junior is. Solid, yeah
you have a gaping question at guard and you've got

(02:11:39):
thirty two millions still sitting. There, yeah are we overlooking
because of so many questions on? Defense the importance to
do something at guard because if, not where do you
Think Miles garrett's going to line? Up week, one right
Over Lucas. PATRICK i Guess i'll put it this.

Speaker 9 (02:11:56):
Way IF i would have said to you or anybody
else when the off season, started here's the planet, guard
he would have, said let's go back to the drawing.

Speaker 4 (02:12:06):
Board Lucas patrick And Dylan.

Speaker 9 (02:12:10):
Fairchild, well he's A ufc guy, too, though and a
new offensive line. COACH i THINK i think going into
the offseason most of us expected there to be two
signings at, guard along with addressing it in the, draft
AND i think relative to the, preseason the pre offseason,
expectations what they have, done like with the, defense feels

(02:12:30):
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (02:12:31):
Underwhelming.

Speaker 9 (02:12:32):
NOW i Think Ted carris can benefit from not having to.
Block Alex kapp has. Gone he can help it to,
guard so that'd be. Nice AND i Think Orlando brown's
a solid, player AND i EXPECT i think The bengals
are expecting big things from Ma Marius mims and there's
lots of reasons to AND i do think they have
some options at. Guard but if we were to list
position groups from top to, bottom, right what's best to?

(02:12:55):
Worst would you think about listing guard at the bottom
of the. List, Possibly, YEAH i mean that our safety
probably for me right, now every team has, weaknesses, right,
yeah right, now UNTIL i see, Otherwise i'll say guards a. Weakness,
NOW i still believe that the other three spots on
the offensive line can be, solid AND i. Will i'm
drinking The Scott peters kool aid because we always do

(02:13:16):
that with new offensive line. Coaches BUT i think if
we were to list position groups you feel best about to,
worst guard is probably pretty close to the, bottom if
not at the.

Speaker 4 (02:13:26):
Bottom.

Speaker 3 (02:13:26):
YEAH i know you'll talk a lot Of reds padres
from over the weekend About Chase.

Speaker 4 (02:13:31):
Burns game. One you go against The.

Speaker 3 (02:13:33):
Yankees, now you go against a lineup that's not as
potent in The Boston Red, sox but you're going up
Against Garrett crochet on the other, side who happens to
be a left handed, Pitcher, yeah who doesn't really give up.
Runs if You're Chase, burns you probably got to be perfect.
Tonight or Maybe Garrett crochet's just do for a bad
hob not not much margin for. ERROR i guess WHAT
i want to know, is, like let's say he gives

(02:13:53):
up a hit off The Green. MONSTER i haven't seen
The red starting lineup. TONIGHT i Assume Austin hayes is
going to be in.

Speaker 9 (02:13:58):
It At Austin hayes to climb thirty feet up The
Green monster to catch balls hit off of, it because
On Friday night we were asking that Of Ryan.

Speaker 4 (02:14:06):
Vlaide there it Is Bryan, Valaide Austin Ryan, valaide, Right
so that's WHAT i want to a lazy play by
him For Chase burns.

Speaker 9 (02:14:14):
Tonight how high Can Austin hayes climb The Green monster
when a ball is hit.

Speaker 3 (02:14:20):
Off of to break up to keep the no no.
Inte it's a small margin for, error but you, know
maybe we're due to hit a.

Speaker 9 (02:14:26):
Lefty Maybe Garrett crochet is hard to hit now his
last three, STARTS i think he's given up two. Runs
excited to Watch Chase burns start number. Two let's see
how he adjusts to how The yankees adjusted to him
the second go round through the batting.

Speaker 3 (02:14:40):
Order, yeah also From Friday, night you gotta give. Credit
Nick martinez gets. Shelled, yeah gives up seven runs in
less than three.

Speaker 4 (02:14:47):
Innings.

Speaker 3 (02:14:47):
Yep moves to the bullpen for two different stints so
That Brady singer don't have to miss a, start and
then comes back And he's fantastic On Friday. Night those
are the types of players you need a root.

Speaker 9 (02:14:57):
For, yeah you could say that about a lot of
guys on that. Team, yeah you know Who i'm going
to give credit to On Friday. Night my Man John, Sadak,
oh my. Man John sadak ON tv On Friday night
treated adult viewers like. Adults, yes because he said the
words no, hitter and he understood most viewers can, go

(02:15:17):
you know what we know and no hitter is going.
On it's my job to inform the, audience who may
just be joining us with the storylines in this. Game
Are John sadak treats his audience like smart. People thank.
You John sadak. AGREED i was at the game On
friday AND i fell asleep in the couch WHEN i
came home AND i woke up and there was a
replay of the, game And John sadak must have said

(02:15:39):
no hitter like twelve. TIMES i feel like he was
getting paid every time he said no.

Speaker 4 (02:15:43):
Hitter and good for.

Speaker 9 (02:15:44):
Him John sadak getting it done in The reds broadcast booth.

Speaker 3 (02:15:49):
Here it is getting it done Next The Mulager show
coming up ON espn fifteen Thirty Cincinnati Sports.

Speaker 4 (02:15:55):
Station have a great rest of Your monday.

Speaker 1 (02:16:06):
