Speaker 2 (00:20):
Good afternoon, Happy Tuesday. Welcome to the latest edition of

Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of our good friends at
Skyline Chili. Anytime you're feeling good and hungry, it's Skyline Time.
Thank you. Also, if you're listening via the iHeartRadio app.
If so, we got a short week. We're off of
the fourth of July on Friday, meaning you only got today,
(00:42):
Tomorrow and Thursday to get your best talk back in.
Winner as we decide on Thursday, we'll get a CINCI
shirts gift card to go home on the fourth of
July weekend with so, make sure to get the talkbacks
in and we will get to those in our number
two today. We'll get to those today right after we
(01:03):
get to our guy Rob Dibble. Now you can hear
Rob Dibble on the Rob Dibble Show on the iHeartRadio app.
He's on from three to seven each afternoon. But I'm
excited to talk to Rob Dibble. We had him on
before Austin. He was fantastic. He was awesome in his
other appearance on the show, and there is yeah, there
(01:23):
are some some permanent information that I'd like to extract
from Rob Dibble based on what we saw last night
at Fenway Park. Not a banner night for Chase Burns.
He lasted a third of an inning, five hits, five
earned runs, seven runs total, but five were earned. He
walked two batters and failed to strike out anyone. And
the question was raised to Terry Francona after the game,
(01:47):
was he tipping his pitches. Terry Francona didn't know after
the game whether he was or was it, but did
give credit to Alex korus Ay and he's one of
the best in the business that picking up on stuff
like that, that, of course, being the Boston Red Sox manager.
So we have a lot to discuss with Rob Dibble today.
Joe Daneman aka Drew Bledsoe is out again this week,
(02:15):
our guy from Fox nineteen. So I believe Drew Bledsoe's
riding back from vacation. So today Tom Brady joins us. Well,
not that Tom Brady. Jeremy Raw, our own Tom Brady
joins us at two o'clock from Fox nineteen. So Dibble
and Raw, that sounds like some of the nasty boys.
(02:37):
Well it's one of the nasty boys them. Yeah, So
we get Dibble, we get Jeremy Row, we get your talkbacks.
All happening today. We'll talk a little Bengals as well.
Latest on Shamar Stewart. CBS Sports ranked their top ten
players in the NFL. Right now, I want to dive
into that, and if we got time, we'll talk about
maybe our Bengals sleeper pick for the upcoming season. We'll
(03:00):
recap the loss last night for the Cincinnati Reds. They
lost thirteen to six. They did they did hit Garrett
Crochet more than any other team has done this year.
So the offense piled out nine hits and six runs
last night. It was a rough start from Chase Burns
and then the bullpen as they obviously had to fill
(03:22):
seven and two thirds. They give up nine hits and
six earned runs themselves. So we'll recap everything from last
night's Reds game as we go here, and our number one,
of course, we'll take your phone calls. Five to one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. There is a lot going on right now Austin.
From an NBA free agency standpoint, we talked before the show.
(03:45):
Money must just not matter in the NBA. It's just
I mean, as long as you go you have a
pulse and you were on an NBA roster last year,
you're gonna get about twelve mil. Yeah, pretty much. It's
kind of ridiculous. Some of these deals, I'm like, who
are these people? But some of the more I guess
noteworthy names. Kevin Looney from Golden State joined the Pelicans.
(04:10):
Luke Cannard is he from like the Springboro Franklin area.
He's from Franklin. He's from Franklin. He's joining the Atlanta Hawks,
Luke Dorian Finney Smith went to the Houston Rockets. Brook
Lopez went to the Clippers. The Dallas Mavericks got Di'angelo Russell,
and I believe the Nuggets traded Michael Porter Junior to
(04:31):
the Nets for Cam Johnson. Okay, so that was some
of the bigger deals that happened yesterday, and then today
things have kicked up even more. Shaig Gildris Alexander reigning
NBA champion along with MVP, got a two hundred and
eighty five million dollar super Max deal. Today, congratulations to
SGA and the Milwaukee Bucks have signed Miles Turner from
(04:55):
the Indiana Pacers and in doing so have waved Dame time.
Damian Lillard's now a free agent in the NBA. So
there is quite a lot happening in the NBA. There's
also quite a lot happening with the Miami Dolphins. Can
you imagine, Austin if like you were covering the Dolphins
(05:16):
and you just like thought, when's a good time? Like
we talked about this time of the year on radio
all the time, like if I'm gonna plan, maybe I'll
plan a vacation in late June early to mid July,
get one end. Can you imagine if you did that
with the Dolphins this week? Yesterday they trade Jalen Ramsey
and John O. Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers from Minka Fitzpatrick.
Today they got Darren Waller out of retirement. How about that?
(05:39):
Darren Waller. Yes, Darren Waller. You may know him as
an NFL tight end. You also may know him as
a I think he's a rapper now he is unretiring.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I don't know if it's fair to call him a rapper.
Oh I saw a rap video that he did Bud
attempts to rap.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
The Dolphins gave up a twenty twenty six sixth round
pick to the New York Giants for Darren Waller, who
then agreed to a one year, five million dollar deal
with the Miami Dolphins. So shout out to the Dolphins
who have done some really fun, interesting stuff over the
last couple of days. Fun or let's just say interesting. Okay,
(06:16):
you're gonna get Darren Waller, Tyreek Hill, Menka Fitzpatrick, Tua
Hall running around South Beach.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
I think defensively they upgraded sure with Minca Sure.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Incredible.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
What did you see that the w NBA players voted
Caitlin Clark as the ninth best guard in the league.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
What are we doing? I think the w NBA players
hate Kaitlyn Clark for some reason, hate her guts. Man.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
I don't quite understand it, but they absolutely hate her guts.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
That's just wild, It's insane. Speaking of Caitlyn Clark, she
is part of the w NBA Commissioner's Cup. That championship
game is tonight, the Fever. I thought she was hurt,
hurt the links of Minnesota. She's questionable for the game tonight.
Minnesota's fourteen and two. They host the Indiana Fever and
(07:08):
it is the WNBA commissioners.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
It's kind of like the NBA Cup, like what they
have a midseason tournament type.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yes, they do, so that is happening from a WNBA standpoint.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
It's Bobby Bonia Day. It is Happy Bobby Bonia Day
for those who celebrate Bonia Baby. And he's still got
like ten years left. Unbelievable of these payments. He gets
one point one nine to three million from the New
York Mets today and he will every July first through
the year twenty thirty five, ten more years, ten mil
(07:42):
more from Bobby boniad to him Bo.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Congrats to Bobby Bonia. Congrats to the Big Dumper as well.
He hit his thirty third home run of the year
last night. Big Dumper thirty three home runs for cal Raley.
The record I saw this. I don't know if I
saved it. I may have screwed up by not saving it.
But basically the record for home runs through June thirtieth
(08:08):
all time is like thirty nine from Barry bonds and
then everybody else is thirty three. Here it is I
got it right here, So Barry bonds and one home
runs through June thirtieth, thirty nine. Mark McGuire had thirty
seven in nineteen ninety eight, Ken Griffy Junior and Sammy
Sosa had thirty three in nineteen ninety eight, and cal
(08:31):
Raley has thirty three in twenty twenty five. The big
dumper cal Raley.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
By the way I saw this. You want another stat here?
People say, Elie de la Cruz isn't clutch high leverage ops.
This is just stuff I save to talk about, and
I don't know. I just saw it next to you.
Ellie day la Cruz eleventh in Major League Baseball in
high leverage OPS, fifth in the National League. Sho Heo
(09:00):
Tany number one, Pete crow Arms from the National League
shoe Heo Tany number one, Pete crow Armstrong number three,
Max Munsey number three, Hunters Hunter Goodman number four, and
Elizardo de la Cruzo number five.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
How about that USA Today ranked the Big ten quarterbacks
for the start of the college football season upcoming.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Luke Altmeyer should be number one. Drew Aller's number one Oh,
Luke Altmeyer's number two. There's a strong congingent of folks
that think Illinois is the second best team in the
Big Ten this year.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
I have I said.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I don't know if I ever said this on the air,
but I told one of my buddies I was a
Luke Altmeyer believer, okay, and that was from not this
past season, but the season before. So I was counting
on Luke Altmeyer to have a big season for Illinois, Okay,
and he was not good last year.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I had twenty six touchdown and six picks, so yeah, terrible.
He was fine.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I'm still a Luke Altmeyer believer, but I would like
for him to play well this season so I can
be proven right. It can be like Mark and get
my flowers. Dylan Ryola is number three.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
That stock will plummet after Game one when the UC
defense gets ahold of them. Dante days from that, I
don't know. It's going to be fit. It's coming out.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Today's a two year anniversary of the Bearcat's being in
a big twelve man.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Happy anniversary. They're going to celebrate with my uniforms tomorrow.
Dante Moore was number four, and then Julian Sam was
number five concerned about the quarterback play for Ohio State
in the upcoming year. It's the biggest issue for someone
here in the office told me today that you could
pick someone out of this office to be the quarterback
Ohio State, they would still have success.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Oh I do appreciate that person's confidence. I don't know
if that's true.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
You want to talk about confidence. What about Jeremiah Smiths confidence?
Talking about Michigan. I love Jeremiah Smith, but I don't
want to go to Ohio State and lose to that
team up north. I just hate them. Just something about
them for the next two years. I promise you I
will not lose to them. I can't lose to them
in the next two years. Uh huh, you know we didn't.
I wrote this down to talk about yesterday. We didn't
get to. Jim Harball was added to a lawsuit about
(11:04):
a guy taking people's information, one of his coaches taking
people's information and hacking into their eye clouds and looking
at private and sensitive photos and taking their data. Really,
and Jim Harball knew about it and allowed.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Him to coach. Wow, how about this? You know this
is they're still waiting on a ruling from the NC
double A. Here sure, the NC DOUBLEA says, now Michigan
has committed six Level one violations. Wow, they face eleven
violations total. I'll say it again, eleven violations total. Six
of them are Level one, which is the most serious
(11:41):
tier from the NC DOUBLEA. So looking forward to hearing
more about what should be and hopefully is the death
penalty for the University of Michigan football program and then
vacating wins including their national championship asterisk asterisks.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
How about this? I posted this yesterday. There is a
video Austin of this dad who's with his family on
a Disney cruise ship. Yeah, and his five year old
daughter fell from the fourth deck of the ship into
the ocean, crazy without hesitation. This man jumps in after her. Now,
(12:24):
this ship is moving quickly, and I have since read
that it is very popular for sharks to follow cruise
ships because all of the excess food that gets left
out Right, this ship's moving quick You're talking about a
split second, and you're probably not even going to be
able to find her at this point. The father jumps
(12:46):
in the moment he realizes she falls. The captain was
able to slow the ship turning around, they deployed ship
a boat to go get them, and to this guy's credit,
he not only jumped in, found his daughter, saved her,
kept her afloat until the boat came, and they are
both safe at this point. That's amazing.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Now.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I posted this yesterday just about how incredible it is. Yeah,
and as a father, I would do the exact same thing.
And then people are like, well, if you read the reports,
he actually put her up on the railing for a picture,
so it's actually his fault. Okay, I'm not getting into it.
You shouldn't do that, right. I was more common on
the fact that he was able to jump and find
(13:26):
her and keep her alive until a boat came.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Yeah, even if it's even if it was didn't do
the right thing.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
It was incredible, incredible to see kind of this video
of the rescue and everything like that. I heard.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
I was watching actually the news this morning and they
were talking about this, and one of the people on
the ship said, I didn't know a cruise ship could
turn that fast. Yeah, the way that it immediately turned
around and got one of those like lifeboats in the water.
So credit to them for being ready to do that.
And I'm sure they do a ton of training about
(13:56):
that sort of stuff and being able to quickly get
it done, and so thankfully nobody was there. I mean
they're lucky that. I mean from the fourth deck of
a cruise ship.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Yeah, just to fall alone.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, you didn't like break break a bone or so
to even come up above the water after you fall
is incredible. Right, and then you're thinking about the current
that the ship is moving with that's going to try
to drag you under. To be able to find her
and keep her afloat for that period of time is incredible.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yeah. I had one other question here in segment one
because someone brought this up in a video that I
saw the other day, and I'm like, man, what that's
a good point? May I ask something? Okay, we don't
often like to talk death on the show. Okay, gosh,
this has been a hodgepodge of a way. Where hasn't it?
Where are all the new graveyards at Where are new
(14:40):
graveyards being built? Okay, in your lifetime, I'm thirty nine,
I don't ever remember seeing a new graveyard post it anywhere, Like, hey,
grand opening, we're building a graveyard. Here's where it's at
in thirty nine years, I've not seen one new graveyard. Now,
I know there are a higher percentage of folks nowadays
(15:02):
that choose to be cremated. That numbers like fifty five
percent in twenty twenty three. I think around three million
people Austin died in twenty twenty three, so let's say
one point four one point five of those were buried.
That's a lot of people, and that's one year. Think
of the time you've been alive. Have you ever seen
(15:23):
a new cemetery being constructed. I can't say that I have,
so where are My guess is that at some point
they dig the people up, whoa, and they reuse the plots. WHOA,
that's dark after years and years and years and years.
(15:44):
I'm assuming that happens because I've lived been reading a
lot of my life. There's two different cemeteries and reading,
but there's not there's not a lot of land to expand,
and you're kind of land locked in different places.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
I think the big thing too, I mean burial and
stuff that's expensive.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
That's true, you know that's true.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Think about this though, fifty five percent or being cremated,
that's a lot. How many are being donated to science,
oh or being studied or maybe worked on, or organ
donors all sorts of different things. I'm sure that's a
big part of it. Some people probably have private burial
(16:23):
sites on land that they own or you know, but
let's just some of them are like in turn in
those structures.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Let's just even say on the small let's just say
one million people a year buried. Yeah, I'm thirty nine.
That's thirty nine million people would be buried. And I've
never seen a new cemetery being built.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
It's not like it's not like it takes an acre
to bury somebody. On how many bodies can you fit
in an acre? Probably a lot. The world is big,
Earth is large, so.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Let me check.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
I bet plots are reused. Okay, you know, I remember
seeing when Hurricane Katrina happened.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
An acre of land can typically accommodate eight hundred graves.
Seem interesting. Interesting.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
I played on a golf course. I played on a
golf course once that was built around a graveyard. And
there's I'm seriously, in between the two cart paths, there's
like a rope around. There's like ten people buried there,
and they're like two hundred years old and they have
like the they have the gravestones. It's pretty amazing anyways,
But like, yeah, I saw this story once from Hurricane Katrina.
(17:46):
The flooding and stuff was so bad, and obviously, yeah,
got into the graveyard, got into the graveyards and push
cast caskets up and they were floating around.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Insane. That's surreal, insane. But it just it's stuff like
that I get thinking, man, like I just looked this
minds that my mind is a is an endless spot.
I just looked this up.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
This guy on Reddit, now take it for what it's
worth Reddit okay says we paid for my mom's plot
for one hundred and fifty years after that she's so ol.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Oh man, I think it's against the law to we
use plots. Okay, maybe it is. I think that's against
the law.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I don't know what people, I don't know that I
I don't know anything about this. Well, it just had
me thinking, feel like we failed our listeners. Chase Burns
got lit up like the proverbial firecracker. Last night we
were talking about everything else.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
That's all we got. Rob Dibble later in the show, Right,
dam's gonna talk to us about Chase Burns. We're gonna
talk about tipping pitches. Maybe we needed this converse. What
do you want to do? Should we talk about the
Pittsburgh Steelers?
Speaker 5 (18:43):
More?
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Got some Steeler fans out there? What about a poll
question today?
Speaker 3 (18:47):
We've got to revive Fitnessystems dot com poll question Tony.
You can vote on it at Audio More, at ESPN
fifteen thirty and at Tony Underscore Pike fifteen. It's quite
simple which player is more meaningful to their team? Trey Hendrickson,
TJ Watt, Max Crosby or Miles Garrett. Oh, you know,
(19:13):
I was listening to this is a good poll question.
I was listening to Adam Schefter this morning on this
radio station talking to on sportsmanlike and they asked him,
you know it, is it possible we get to a
point where.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
TJ.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Watt is asking the Steelers for a trade. And Adam
Schefter was like, yeah, sure, we can get to that.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Which would be completely backwards from everything we're hearing about
the Steelers going all in.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Twenty two percent say Trey Hendrickson? Really, nineteen percent say TJ. Watt?
What ten percent say Max with two x's Crosby okay,
and forty seven percent. Come on, say Miles Garrett, what listen,
I know it's way too early for this. I started
(19:57):
digging into twenty twenty six MI drafts a little bit.
A lot of those mock drafts have Cleveland selecting number one.
Miles Garrett is a great player. That team is going
nowhere with or without him this year, correct, So I
don't know how he can be the most meaningful. Keep
in mind what Miles Garrett said quote. While I love
calling this city my home, I desire to win and
(20:19):
compete on the biggest stages. Won't allow me to be complacent.
The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton.
It has always been to compete for and win a
Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to
be traded from the Cleveland Browns. YEP, that was five
months ago. Listen, Miles Day said, what if we give
(20:39):
you forty million dollars? And He's like, I love Cleveland,
I want to be here forever.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Garrett's one of the best players in the game, one
of the best, but he's not meaningful as much as
the others to that roster because Cleveland's not winning this year.
If you take TJ. Watt and you play him in
the middle of Pittsburgh's defense now with Jalen Ramsey and
everyone else that that defense already has in place. That's meaningful.
Trey Hendrickson meaningful because if you take Trey Hendrickson in
(21:04):
seventeen and a half sacks away, you have no production
on the defensive line. That's meaningful for the team. Why
because people view Pittsburgh as a team that can win.
People view Cincinnati as a team that can win. People
even view the Raiders as a team that's closer winning
in the Cleveland Brown So how can you be meaningful
if regardless of what Miles Garrett does, they're still gonna stink.
(21:26):
My vote would be TJ. Watt because that defense. If TJ.
Watt is a Pittsburgh stealer, with the acquisitions they've made
and what they've done in the offseason, Darius Lay, Jalen Ramsey,
John new Smith, DK Metcalff, Aaron Rodgers, that is a
team that is capable of winning. If TJ. Watt is
rushing the passer, you take TJ. Watt off the field
(21:48):
not as worried. That makes him the most meaningful on
this list. In my opinion. Where does your vote go?
My vote goes to Trey Hendrickson. Okay, and you can
make the same argument there.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
I think it my order it would be Trey Hendrickson,
Max Crosby, t J. Watt, Miles Garrett.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Okay. Do you think there's any chance TJ. Watt is
not a Steeler? No? I don't. Okay. I met Bob
man Jean somewhere listening to this. Just scared the death
of the thought of losing TJ.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
Wat.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Sure he is Bob's always on his phone apparently, No,
he's watching some Aaron Rodgers workout video or something somewhere.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Yeh, what I'm saying, he's always on his phone. Speaking
of Bob Manjean, I'm a screenager. Bob works with the
University of Cincinnati men's basketball team. I just saw a
report from Scott Springer that Kerr Krisa has been fully
cleared for all basketball related activities.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
There you go. So, I mean he missed last year
with the foot injury. Bob helps in that avenue, so
we got to accommodate. Uh. Bob Manjeen, Thanks Bob, Thanks Bob, Thanks,
we commend you. Thanks for listening.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
I just Bob I just I's a post here from
Woody Page. You remember him, I do. He posted a
picture of one of his old chalkboards from around the Horns.
Sure it said being cremated is my last chance for
a smoking hot body.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
We'll take a break, Isn't that weird? When weird? Just
talking about that when we come back with we're gonna
try to get back on the clock. We'll take one
phone call when we get back, and then we'll get
into the Reds and Chase Burns and we'll run that all.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
The way through Oh my gosh, what a segment.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
We'll run that all the way through one twenty today
because we're gonna talk to Rob Dibble at one o'clock,
So we'll talk to you your phone call next, and
then we'll talk some Cincinnati Reds going forward on sinty
three sixty thanks to Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 7 (23:42):
Now your chance to win it.
Speaker 8 (23:47):
Getting into the pack of you know, learning how to
pitch rather than just have to throw pitches is the
next step.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Well, you're Yu standing in Rey's homer tonight and he's.
Speaker 7 (23:55):
Slaying and he hits this one high in the.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Air, deep right, Field. Yeah, that goes Hines. It is
gone and that's worth form.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
Second home run of the night, Poor Will, you're a
bray you and this one is grand.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Yeah, Will your a Braill not only went with the
grand slam last night also had the very rare inside
the park home run. Man.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Not a bad night for a Braill I saw. There's
not a lot of people that have ever done that before. Yeah,
Roger Maris is one of them. That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Yeah, a put an end to any of the Red's
comeback efforts. We'll get to that in just a few minutes.
Because we went so long in segment number one, we'll
take a phone call. We'll get ourselves back on the clock,
and we'll talk all Reds from last night until then.
Mike is Mike is calling. What's up?
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Mike, Hey, guys, a very nice, more big topic. We
were on there for a little while.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
You never know what you're gonna get in segment one
of this show.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
I thought it was maybe Halloween was coming up or
some a little bit spookyre So, okay, we'll just pretend
that didn't happen. Uh, that was weird, you guys, I'm
telling you anyway, You're surprised that everybody and you're listening audience,
I believe.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Everybody's keep people on their toes.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Yep. So the young rookie Tino got his butt hand
between last night. So that's probably good for him though,
you know, making bite the you know, grab the bit
a little harder next time. Maybe. I'm sure he was shot.
I'm sure he was shell shocked when he left that
game last night.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
I just think there's it got me thinking last night
about the mental aspect of the game, and it's something
I want to I want to hit one with with
Rob Dibble at one o'clock because I imagine, much like a
quarterback in football, the mental toughness that you need in
the game of baseball is just as important because no
matter who you are, at any level, you're going to
have nights where you just don't have your stuff and
(25:53):
the other team's going to make you pay for it.
And when you're a rookie that can be a little
bit harder to deal with because maybe you question your
stuff or your makeup and what you can do. But
to go from the Yankees and start one and then
you get beat up last night and there's no reprieve
coming for Chase Burns, because his next start is going
to be on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. So
you go back to the tape, you figure out what
(26:14):
you're doing and what maybe you can do better, and
if there is a situation where you're tipping your pitches
a little bit, maybe you try to fix that and
move forward.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Yes, let's hope.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
So for the guy, I hope he does well.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
And we can always use more pitching, no question. Hey,
I'm kind of curious, Well, what Jalen Ramsey, this guy
all these years. I've been watching him plat whenever I
see him have games that he's really not very impressive Tony.
I don't know what why he's so coveted. Maybe he
was better when he was younger, but I think he's
(26:51):
a little bit of an overrated secondary guy myself.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
He grated out out of seventy seven last year. I
think that made him like the fourteenth or fifteen highest
rated corner. But at the same time, outside of Buffalo,
who ran the ball more last year than they threw
it in their own division, the Patriots were nothing from
an aerial attack. The Jets were not much from an
aerial attack. So I don't think he was tested as
much as he's going to be now coming over to
(27:15):
the AFC North and some of the opponents that Miami
or that, uh, that Pittsburgh's gonna play this year. So
I think you're gonna find out rather quickly from from
Jalen Ramsey if he still is regarded as one of
the better corners in the NFL, or or if a
is starting to catch up to him.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
And I'm not so sure he's that much better than
Fitzpatrick really, and he costs him a halfable lot more money,
that's for Dard.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Yeah. I mean he's gonna he's gonna go against Justin
Jefferson this year. He's gonna go against Jamar Chase and
T Higgins twice. Uh, He's gonna go against that Chargers offense,
the Bears, the Bills, Uh, they're gonna see the Ravens
obviously twice, the Detroit Lions. So he's gonna be tested
in Pittsburgh this year, and and I think it's gonna
be very interesting to watch how he plays and what
(28:00):
he can play out for the Steelers and how they're
going to use him.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm curious, really curious. I'm just still so
worried about this offensive line situation. I hope it doesn't
come back and bite us hard. I don't know how.
Now listen, let me ask you this about this offensive line,
and then I want to hit you with the Denver
Broncos questions. Could this line with these two new guards,
like Austin I think mentioned yesterday, We don't know for sure,
(28:27):
a couple of these new guards. They could come in
and maybe do a good job. We can't say for sure.
But how long does it take that kind of unit
to gel when you keep having new guys coming in
and out.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Ton Well, it's so important to make sure they're all
available for training camp. That's a huge part of it.
And being healthy will go a long way, But you
need game reps, and unfortunately it does take you a
couple of games, maybe even half a season, until you're
fully comfortable with who you're playing next to. But I
think the problem in lies and what you said, Mike
is you know you hope that they can be that,
you hope that can take that step. You're putting a
(29:02):
lot on hoping and not on actual in game understanding
of what you are. So it's it's a little bit
of a roll of the dice for the Bengals if
you ask me. But obviously you do put your hope
in that that they do improve and that those guards
can can be solid for the offensive line.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
I did talk to my buddy that lives in Miami
the other day and he's a big hurricane Stan and
he and he's no expert on offensive line play, but
he's watched him for fifty years and he thinks this
Rivers kid is really going to be a good player
and a big surprise to a lot of people, let's hope.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
So yeah, with a with a new offensive line coach,
hopefully they can find depth and valuable pieces that are
already building on the roster. And maybe that's what they
think because they have an aggressively pursued guard or offensive
line this offseason.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Last question, and you're being kind with a ton I
really think this Denver team is gonna win that that
that that division this year. I really, I'm just I
think they are ready to bust it out.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
And you know the.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Funny thing is, Tony, I can't tell you six guys
on the team, the quarterback and one or two other guys,
can you.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
No, At this point, I'd be very hard pressed to
do so. I know it's a fantastic, fantastic defense that
they have. Can bo Nicks take the year two leap,
I think is a huge question for them going forward,
But you know, I look, they're right with the Bengals
kind of in the middle of the pack from a
strength to schedule standpoint. They got some winnable games obviously
(30:28):
in the division. If the Chargers take a step forward
and what the Chiefs do and the Raiders is going
to be tough. But it's certainly a team to watch
because of how they can get after you defensively and
looking for that year two leap from bow Knicks for sure.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
And Cayton's really a good touch. Yeah what anybody? I
guess some people don't like him, but I don't know
what there is not to like about me. Maybe I'm
missing something. Anyway, Thanks you, guys. I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
All right, Mike, thank you. Let's steer back to some
Cincinnati Reds. We have a lot to get to with
the Reds game last night, and we'll tie that into
joining Rob Dibble at one o'clock to break it down
all down as well next on Cincy three to sixty
thanks to Skyline. Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty, talked about
this a lot. He's got what you want, Like, who's
(31:12):
the go to guy.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
Gonna be the interviews, his views and your calls.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Go to guy isn't the team's leading.
Speaker 9 (31:17):
School mullegger Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 7 (31:25):
Let's try it.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
It is happy July first, we're officially in the month
of NFL training camp.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
We're in the month of NFL football. NFL Football July
thirty first, Wow, Pro Football Hall of Fame game, Wow,
Chargers Lions Camp Ohio.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Of course, the Bengals start camp on July twenty third.
We ain't talking about the Bengals right now that we're
talking about the Cincinnati Reds. Red still two and a
half games out of the Wild Card, still five and
a half games back in the Central but losers last
night in Game one on the road against the Boston
Red Sox. We talked about a brew last night and
(32:04):
inside the park home run. Also a Grand Slam late
in the game that pretty much sealed any comeback thoughts
that the Cincinnati Reds may have had. The story from
last night was out of Chase Burns, he lasted just
a third of an inning. He surrendered five hits, seven runs,
five of those runs were earned, walked two batters, and
struck out no one last night, again in just a
(32:27):
third of an inning. That means the bullpen had to
come up with seven and two thirds innings of work
last night. In those seven and two thirds, they allowed
nine hits and six more earned runs. Boston wins the
game thirteen to six. Offensively Austin for the Reds last night,
they roughed up Garrett Crochet the worst he's been roughed
up this year.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Yeah, I think the Reds deserved a lot of credit, man, honestly.
I mean in the way that they fought back in
that game. Yeah, anytime you're gonna give up a bunch
of runs, you'd rather be in the first inning. But
they put together some good at bats. They hit the
ball to all fields. I mean there was a bunt
hit in there a couple of That home run from
Austin Hayes was ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Austin Hayes homard and hit a triple last night. Yeah,
double from Matt McClain. He also had three hits on
the night, So Hayes and McClain with a multi hit night. Again,
there were some things you liked, but I think last
night more so than anything Austin, it kind of reminds
you of how hard this sport is. And maybe there
(33:29):
was some overreaction with just one start for Chase Burns.
And it's always going to be interesting at any level
to see, Okay, what adjustments are made from start one
to start two. And it's something we've talked about with them,
Mars mems right a whole offseason of teams to see, Okay,
what does he do really well? What does he struggle
with You've got to make those adjustments on the fly
in baseball, and that's what Chase Burns is going to
(33:50):
be tasked with doin Again, as we talked with Mike before,
it doesn't get any easier for Chase Burns. He's got
to go pitch out Philly in his next start. But
outside of all of that, they did the Reds at
least make it interesting a couple times. The seven to
nothing deficit got to seven to four at one point,
an eight to four game went to eight to five.
(34:11):
They cut it to three runs in the sixth inning
on the Austin Hayes home run. They just couldn't get
anything closer across the board. The bullpen couldn't hold Boston
late in that game. That could have made things, because
I think if you score in the sixth and then
you get them out in order in this the bottom
half of the sixth, I think you've got some real
(34:32):
momentum for the later third of that game to do
some damage. The problem is you get a Durant home
run and then the Abrau Grand Slam was obviously too
much to overcome. Reds lose at thirteen to six. The
question that I've seen and the question that Terry Francona
got after the game, was Chase Burns tipping his pitches.
(34:55):
And again, this is something that Rob Dibble knows a
lot more on that we can talk to him about
in about fifteen minutes or so. But you know, Terry
Francona last night said I don't know at this point,
we'll have to go back and look at the tape,
but he did mention that it is something that Alex
Korra is phenomenal at Alex Corer, of course, the manager
of the Boston Red Sox, and it sure looked last
(35:15):
night Austin. Like those hitters knew what was coming, yeah,
you know, because they were barreling some things out.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
I was out doing something last night, so I wasn't
watching the game, but I was listening to it on
my air pods, and eventually I say to my I
say out loud, this he might be tipping his pitches.
The main reason for that being how many first pitch swings. Yeah,
that the Red Sox were able to do damage on.
(35:44):
Think about this, Burns only threw thirty three pitches and
he walked two batters, So let's just give that a
minimum of ten pitches. On those two batters. You gave
up five earned runs, seven runs total on then just
twenty three pitches. Right, So they were aggressive, they were
ambushing him. They were ready for the slider. It didn't
(36:06):
look like the fastball. It maybe maybe not have been
the best night for his fastball. Might not have been
the best night location wise either, because a couple of
those sliders were out over the plate. But overall, you know,
it seemed like they knew what was coming in. And
keep in mind, Alex Cora, you mentioned it, he's known
for being really good at being able to steal signs
and being able to pick up on stuff like that.
(36:28):
Cora was also a huge part, huge part of the
Astros signce stealing scandal back in twenty seventeen. He was
on that coaching staff and he was at one point
labeled the mastermind behind the Astro signce stealing situation in Houston.
So he's known for being really really good at finding
(36:50):
little things. And I bet that's what happened with Chase Burns,
that's my guess.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Yeah, it just seemed and even even if you're missing
with some sliders over the plate when you're a hitter,
if you don't know what it's hard to react to
slider verse one hundred mile an hour fastball unless you're
sitting on that for some reason, right, And that's what
it felt like they were doing last night. Yeah, it
(37:15):
just felt like they had a little bit of a
heads up. So again, it's one of those you put
aside if your your Chase Burns and you focus on
what you can do in the next outing to improve yourself.
Go back watch the tape, self scout, were you tipping anything?
And what can you do about it?
Speaker 3 (37:32):
And I know some people were saying too, like well,
shouldn't this have been addressed when he was coming up
through the minor leagues. Well, part of the reason you
get the guy in the big league so fast is
how good he is at getting hitters out. And he
really didn't walk a bunch of guys. He didn't really
face a lot of issues, and young players at that
level maybe don't pick up on tip pitch tipping as much.
(37:56):
And you know, one of the unintended consequences is you, guys,
only thirteen Major league or thirteen professional starts now fifteen total,
but you don't see or you maybe don't pick up
on that stuff because of how quickly he goes through
the minor leagues. Now, I've also been told that Mike Napoli,
who's on the red staff, is also known for being
(38:16):
really good at picking up, you know, pitches that are
being tipped. So it's good to have somebody like that
on the staff to say, okay, hey, look here's what
I'm picking up from you. And maybe they were able to,
you know, look at the film last night and today
and say, okay, here's what we figured out with Chase.
This could be what it is. And oftentimes it's a
simple fix.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Yeah, it is. It's something certainly to watch.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
I remember when I was a kid, I didn't really
know what tipping pitches meant. And there was a time
where Danny Graves was struggling and he couldn't get anybody out,
and I remember somebody saying Danny Graves was tipping his
pitches and I thought to myself, what this dude's a trader, right,
He's telling them what he's gonna throw. So it's funny now,
(39:01):
like just to get to get to that point, he's like,
all right, some.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Pictures in the past have said I'm willing to let
the better know what's coming, they still are going to
hit it. I was talking to.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Bill Cunningham before the show, and he's a he's good
friends with Jose Rio, lived next to Jose for years,
and you know, he said, Jose Rio was not afraid
to tell people coming here.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
It comes hit. Other guys have said that. I mean,
you knew Mariano Rivera was throwing you a cutter, right, yeah,
here it comes. Do what you want. But it's the placement.
It's it's it's where you can put the ball. It's
are you making the hitter uncomfortable and what you're doing
in the other pitcher. There's a lot that goes into that. Again,
we'll talk to a guy that had his fair share
of many years in the big leagues as a successful pitcher,
(39:46):
Rob Dibble in about ten twelve minutes or so. So
when we get back, let's look ahead to today and
any injury report that we have updated from yesterday. I
know Charlie Goldsmith got some stuff from from Hunter Green
that we'll get to when we come back. Since he
three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
a service of Skyline.
Speaker 9 (40:04):
Chili, getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Hey, welcome back, sinty three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of Skyline Chili. Let's make
this Austin real quick. Today's Postman Law injury report where
if you're injured you could call eight four four Postman
Postman Delivers. Charlie Goldsmith tweeted last night Austin that Hunter
Green has a live bullpen session scheduled in Boston on Wednesday,
(40:42):
then he'll throw again in Philly and then is scheduled
to go on a rehab assignment. Hunter Green said that
the rehab process has been smooth and is very excited.
He said, it's been fun to watch the team. I've
told a bunch of the guys here that they're playing
some great baseball. I'm looking forward to getting back and
being able to help continue that. That is the latest
(41:03):
from Hunter Green. On Sunday, Nolve Marte appeared in both
ends of a doubleheader and in Double A Chattanooga and
when it combined three for six with walk, triple and
two RBIs. So that's the latest on Hunter Green and
Noove Martin. I believe we have another pitcher that's gone
(41:24):
to the aisle with a shoulder injury. Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (41:27):
More shoulder impingement. Ian Jabou was put on the injured
list with shoulder impingement. It's been like the third or
fourth time it's happened to a pitcher already this year
for the Reds, so he is down for a little bit.
Joe Lesorsa came up. He obviously pitched a pretty decent
amount last night, so I would expect there will be
a roster move at some point today. So I just
(41:54):
to get some fresh arms because Suitor has thrown like
fifty pitches in the last three or four game for
three or four days.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
Lesursa pitched a bunch, Connor Phillips pitched a bunch, So
I'd assume there will be a move coming.
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Yeah, And you always you always have to look to
that next day anytime you have a pitcher that doesn't
get deep into a game, right as a bullpen was
stretched in many ways yesterday for the Cincinnati Reds, which
does put a little bit more pressure on tonight's starter.
Who happens to bring Brady Singer seven and six on
the year, four three one el ray. He's gonna go
(42:26):
up against Richard fits for the Boston Red Sox, who
is give him? I like that. I like that. I
was gonna say throwing yep either way, give him Fits.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
He's oning three with the four six eight elray. Over
twenty five innings this season, he has given up twenty
four hits and has struck out twenty one.
Speaker 6 (42:49):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
The interesting stat for Fits Austin through twenty five innings,
he's already given up seven home runs that compared to
eighty five and two thirds for Singers, and he's given
up ten home runs over those eighty five innings, so
he has been susceptible to the long ball for the
Boston Red Sox, and that obviously with the Reds looking
(43:10):
to rebound and give themselves a chance to then win
another series the following day before heading to Philadelphia. So
that is what is on the docket tonight for the
Cincinnati Reds. Also, one other noteworthy piece for the Reds.
I believe the Reds Austin had two players selected the
Futures Game.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
That's right, so correctly, South Stewart and Alfredo Duno both
are going to play for the National League at the
Futures Game in Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Okay, now I know about south Stewart. I don't know
much about Duno. Can you tell me anything about him?
Speaker 9 (43:45):
Did you?
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Was that a joke? Dono? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (43:49):
You do or you don't? I do know he's a catcher, Okay,
I do know. Some people have him ranked ahead of
south Stewart.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Really yeah, Okay, what do you think Rob Dibble knows
a lot more than me and you? Well, let's get
let's get a break in and let's go to Rob Dibble.
Then let's go Dipps. He's gonna join us next Yes,
one of the nasty boys. Yeah, and he was actually
in attendance, he told me last night, no kidding. He
was in attendance all right at Fenway Park last night,
watching the Red Legs, Gibbs and the Red Sox. And
(44:17):
we'll talk to him next right here on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks to our friends at Skyline Chile.
Speaker 7 (44:25):
Ucky, Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (44:27):
Make us the number one pre set on your car

Free never sounded so good. ESPN fifteen thirty t Shirts
Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part
by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts, All Cincy, all day. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Welcome back as we get into our number two, Cincy
three sixty right here on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
thanks to our friends at Cincy Shirts. Let's start our
two with a guest who you can hear. He has
his own show, the Rob Dibble Show, from three to
seven each afternoon, and he's able to join us now.
He was in attendance last night at Fenway Park, watching
(45:13):
the Red Sox and the Reds get some action in
and joining us right now. Rob, What's going on, man,
how are you?
Speaker 6 (45:19):
I'm great, man. That was fantastic game last night. So
my whole family was there. They loved the Reds and
the Red Sox, so that was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
It's hard because Chase Burns was making his second career start,
and in his first start he wowed against one of
the better lineups in baseball with the New York Yankees.
And I think in baseball a lot of times we
can overreact very quickly, and it's a humbling it's a
humbling game because as good as he looked against the
New York Yankees, just wasn't all there against the Red Sox,
(45:51):
another very good lineup. But how difficult is it when
you're a young pitcher to go from that first start
to the next start as the scouting port starts to
expand on you and these hitters start to adjust each game.
Speaker 6 (46:05):
Well, I mean, for Chases his second big league start,
he shouldn't put too much stock into this. And I know,
you know a lot of people are gonna make something
out of you know, he's throwing a hundred. But I
mean the things, the quick things that I noticed. First
of all, I can't stand the pitch clock I think
it's stupid, it's childish, and to force guys to pitch
fifteen seconds, come back pitch fifteen seconds. It was hot,
(46:26):
it was humid. This dude, even Crochet. Crochet was exhausted
by the fifth inning and the Reds got to him
and pounded him. So and I think Garrett Crochet is
one of the top five guys in the American League.
So you know that being said, you know, watching a
guy throw ninety nine hundred mile hour fastballs and a
ninety one mile an hour breaking ball, you got change
(46:47):
speeds slower than that. You know, you got to your
differential's got to be twelve to fifteen mile an hour slower.
You gotta slow things down, your catcher. You can't just
sit there and fire three straight on mile our basketballs
in a row. Even the two hundred hitters in the
Red Sox lineups, we're teeing off on that. So these
guys are that good. I think people don't realize the
(47:11):
batting average doesn't matter. These are the best college hitters
in their in their lifetime. These are the best high
school hitters they've ever faced, you know, and they're one
of twenty three thousand that I've ever played in the
big leagues, So don't doubt that the number nine hitter
in the Red Sox lineup can hit a grand Slam
off you just as easy as the number three, four
(47:32):
to five guy. So I think people that watch it
and don't watch it as much as I and listen.
I watch Red Sox every day. I cover the Yankees
every day. I cover the Mets every day, and every
guy in every lineup is capable. If you don't change
speeds and locations, you can get nailed, just like last
night with Chase.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
Completely off the subject. But it's got to be fun
right now, covering the New York Mets every single.
Speaker 6 (47:54):
Day, Dude, I'll tell you what I mean. Soto and
Alonso and I mean, even if they're not playing well,
are still some of the best I've ever seen. Yeah,
I mean, even like watching you know McLain and you
know Ellie. Last night. You know, I was telling my
wife and she's been watching baseball for forty years or sights,
so you know, maybe Roberto Alomar could cover from second
(48:20):
base to halfway his short and throw the guys out.
Now it's routine for second basement. Yeah, it blows my mind.
These guys are so much more talented than some of
the guys I played with and against, and I played
against great Hall of famers, but they they're not They
don't have that range, they don't have the capability arm wise.
The things they're teaching. I watch how they're practicing and
(48:41):
coaching a sixteen year travel team. I had to bring
in a college player to kind of teach my kids
better stuff than I even know. So it's uh, the
game has changed a lot, and these are these guys
are exceptional.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
For for Chase Burns. Terry Francona was asked after the
game last night on whether Burns was tipping his pitches,
and Francona uh said, it's all something you want to
check in on. He doesn't have a ton of starts
under his belt from you single, A, double, A, triple
A to now. He also did give credit to Francona
to Alex Corey said he's one of the best in
the business at doin. So you were there, you were watching,
(49:13):
did anything give you an indication that maybe Chase Burns
was tipping his pitches? Maybe the Red Sox had found
something out.
Speaker 6 (49:20):
I mean, this is what I teach with my guys,
it's how you go into your glove to to hold
the breaking ball. You could come into the side to
grab a curveball, stay behind it to grab your fastball.
I couldn't. I wasn't close enough to see that. I'd
have to look at the video. You know, he could
have had his leg coming up higher on a fastball
and lower on a breaking ball. You know, those are
(49:41):
things I really wasn't paying attention to because it happens
so quick. And trust three was like and the fans
in front of me were goll crazy and it was
it was it was insane. But you know, those are
things you got to look at. I mean, those are
things you got to think about every day you take
the mound. I'll give you an example Randy Randy Johnson
when he was getting hit and I played against him
(50:01):
when he was with the expos and in the minor leagues,
and he could throw it strike and it was all
about where he was landing and confidence and etc. But
then he got to a point where he was holding
his fastball up by his face and his breaking ball
was down by his waist. So just little things like that,
and you see the hitters. There's video of the hitters
today going back and talking to each other's that's what
(50:22):
baseball is. I called them like little ants, and their
antennae go up and it's like, hey, he's doing this,
Hey he's doing that, and they're going to relay that
information quickly to where if you're not in real time
making adjustments. And listen, you know it happened so quickly.
He's probably so amped he wants to throw it by.
And even I think it was Phillips that gave up
(50:43):
the Grand Slam at the end, I can't throw in
ninety nine. Yeah, and listen to people are like, well,
you know he was. Listen, is everybody tipping the pitches? No,
they're that good. The Red Sox had a great day.
I wouldn't overanalyze it, but I would check in on
where am I going into my glove? Where's my glove
in the stretch, because he was in the stretch a
couple of times when he gave up big hits. But listen,
(51:06):
the Red Sox pounded on pretty much everybody that came
out of the bullpen. That was one of those nights. Honestly,
you'd hide at the end of the dugout or in
the bullpen and say please don't call my number. I
don't want to come in here tonight. And I've been
on the other end with the Reds. We destroyed the
Astros one time. I think we put fourteen up on
him in the first inning. And so it's very plausible.
(51:29):
The Red Sox had great prep on this kid. They
all watched their video and they were ready for one
hundred mile an hour fastball, and they just got the
better of them.
Speaker 3 (51:36):
How difficult is that to change, though, Like it's just
muscle memory, it's what you've been doing. I guess only
thirteen starts as a professional. How difficult does it say, oh, yeah,
I have to change this or this is something I
need to work on and still be consistent with what
got you to the big leagues?
Speaker 2 (51:52):
How difficult is that?
Speaker 6 (51:53):
Not hard at all? Not hard at all. I mean
I would liken it to football. Maybe a quarterback's got
his foot three inches back and the defenders can see
that's that's going to be a pass or it's going
to go a different way, and and maybe the running
back keeps checking to the left and that's going to go.
Those those are things you have to fix on a
day to day I would always be in front of
(52:13):
a mirror. We were blessed with the Reds in spring training.
If there was anything that was bothering me or my
pitching coach or the team, you could sit in front
of a mirror and just look at yourself. Am I
doing the same thing? Is the ball coming out of
the same location? I you know, I haven't seen Chase.
I watched both of his starts. By the way, whether
or not his breaking ball is a little lower from
(52:34):
his arm slot than you know, the release point. Those
are things that you could quickly change and and get
a young guy to try, you know, to work on
in front of a mirror, work on with a towel.
I mean, those those are all drills that you can
work on on your own. Like I said, going into
your glove, where your glove is. I always had problems
with that. There was early in my minor league career.
(52:55):
I had my glove up high. I lowered it a
little bit so that you couldn't see where I was
going into the glove. Some guys like to bring the
ball back a little bit farther and hide it with
their glove. Everything's about deception. I don't care. I mean
I've seen some of the hardest throwing guys throwing one
hundred miles an hour get pounded. I'll give you an
example against Greg Mannix, Glavin, and Smoltz. We pounded Maddix
(53:18):
and Smoltz, and the guy we couldn't hit was Glavin.
Glavin was so consistent, so consistent with that change up
and hitting his spots. So's it's really I would go back.
I'd look at the tape. Don't just be a thrower,
you know, try to locate and listen every now and
then be effectively wild. Throw some chin music, throw a guy,
get a guy off the plate, set up your breaking ball,
(53:40):
just real simple, basic stuff because anybody throwing a hundred, honestly,
from my standpoint, should never get hit like that. Tipping
not tipping, go, I don't care. You know, Hunter Green.
Every now and then, you got to get a little bit,
you know, pod and show these guys I'm not throwing
bat and practice few. You hit one to the wall,
(54:01):
I might drop the next guy. That's that's gotta be
in your mentality in this game, because these guys are men,
they're they're professionals, and they and they're fearless. They have
all kinds of gear on elbow pads, uh, you know,
shoulder bise that pads. God, they all got watch all
these guys. They have this new glove that's got a
huge steel plate in it. I would drill you just
(54:21):
for wearing that stuff. I'm I mean, listen, listen, listen
and listen. I didn't have to hit you. I faced
two thousand hitters. I hit twelve, and you can look
it up because it's true. But my thing was, I'm
not gonna let you get comfortable in the box. I'm
not gonna let you lean over the plate and hit
(54:42):
my best breaking ball. Real simple stuff that you could
go back to and just look at what you did
last night and learn from that and the next time
out and listen, you have to stay confident because it,
like you said in what we just talked about, it's
a very humbling game. It's built on failure, and you
have to be tough enough to put that behind you.
Come right back out on your next start and be
(55:03):
like fitt here, try to hit this, try to hit that. Listen.
We used to try to go through the lineup as starters,
you know, just with a fastball like four seen two scene,
Try that one time. Forget the breaking ball, you know,
and if you're breaking your fastball is getting hit. Throw
nothing but breaking balls. Start off with the breaking ball,
Throw fastball in, throw another breaking ball, another breaking ball.
You know. That's what pitching is in the big leagues.
(55:24):
And that and for a young player, he's gonna he's
gonna learn sometimes the hard way. I think he's gonna
be fined.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
I'm I'm fascinating you use the word the mentality because
you know, I equated that to the quarterback position of
you better have the short term memory, and you better
be just as mentally strong as you are physically strong,
because you're you're going against pros, you're going against all stars.
You're going to have bad days. They're going to have
good days. I know Chase Burns has the makeup of
(55:50):
being that, but I look at another guy on this
staff and what Andrew Abbott is doing, who doesn't throw
one hundred miles an hour. But it just feels like
when Abbott takes the mound, it's almost like that bulldog
mentalit of you that he's going to attack you. He's
not afraid to throw inside. He's gonna mix his pitches
up and here he is, you know, as we near
the All Star break with an era still under two.
That mentality, it feels like that's where a guy like
(56:12):
Andrew Abbott thrives based on how he carries himself on
the mound.
Speaker 6 (56:17):
Well, and you just described my teammate Tom Browning, who
threw a perfect game and never threw harder than eighty
five miles an hour, So you know, and I've watched that,
and I love what he does. And a lot of it,
like you said, is confidence. A lot of it is
is knowing what his ability is and his maybe lack
thereof are and pitching the contact. I think a lot
of people are not talking about pitching the contact, you know,
(56:37):
when you're trying to avoid bats. And I'll give you
a quick insight into my brain. I'm out there. I
got Barry Larkin behind me and Ron Oster over on
the other side. I got Chrissebo, I got nick A
Saski or Tom Benzinger hal Morse. I got some of
the best fielders in my outfield, and Paul O'Neil and
Eric Davis there. They're the guys when I make a mistake,
are going to help me out? Or if I got
(56:59):
a guy on first, one out, I need a ground ball.
I got a left handed hitter up and I want
that guy to hit it to my short stop. I
throw fastball, low and away. He hits at the barry.
We turn two. We're out of the inning. So you know,
what Abbott's doing is called pitching, and you pitch the contact.
You get your ground balls, you get your fly balls.
You know, Tom Browning gave up thirty five home runs
a year. Twenty eight of them were solo jobs. You know,
(57:22):
he knew he was going to get hit from time
to time. But you know, you don't get beat in
the game. You know, it's still a game. You're still competing,
so you have to go out there with what you
possess and whatever given day in the bullpen, especially for starters,
it's different maybe for reliever because I get ten to
twenty five throws and I'm in the game facing, you know,
and I've got guys on base and I have to
(57:44):
throw strikes. So my mentality was more about hitting my
locations real quick. I'll worry about how good my stuff
is later. These guys there, they have to come out
after thirty to fifty pitches in the bullpen, and no,
do I have a good change up today? Do I
have a good curveball? Is my fastball hitting locations? Or
am I a little bit radic with it? Those are
(58:04):
all the things that make Abbott such a good starter
and why he's going to be an All star, you know.
And and so when you go back to a guy
that throws a hundred, everybody oohs and odds over the velocity.
Are you still hitting your locations? Are you up a
little bit the zone? A lot of those fastballs that
got hit were up in the zone, you know, So
you got to go back and be like, did I
locate them where I needed to where the catcher wanted them?
(58:28):
You know, think things like you know, again, when he
got into trouble, was he trying to get a ground ball?
Or was he trying to strike somebody out? When you're
when you're a power pitcher, you have you have a
propensity to think I'm gonna strike everybody out. Forget that crap.
You know, You've got to think about listen, I got
a guy, I'm first, I'm one pitch from getting out
of this jam if I locate this fastball, you know,
(58:51):
And and there's sometimes where bases are loaded. Now it
falls on you to strike a guy out or pop
a guy up. Now you really have to concentrate to
get guys out and then listen lower in the lineup.
Here's another thing, and this is not about chase anybody.
Your seven eight nine guys are going to be maybe
a slight slower with bat speed. Don't keep throwing them
(59:11):
breaking balls. Power by those guys. You throw ninety five
miles an hour, Why the hell would you throw eighty
five or eighty six to that guy. Blow that guy away,
locate your fastball and move on. And I think we
give the hitters sometimes too much credit mentally, and that
can screw you up. So don't don't be confident, don't
think anybody can hit you. But at the same time,
(59:32):
use all your resources, you know, use your infield, use
your outfield, Know that those guys are there to save you.
Speaker 2 (59:40):
I'm amazed, you know. I take my kids to the
ballpark and the amount of people that are just interested
when La comes to the plate and everything gets quiet
and people are paying so much attention. And I think
you got the witness that. In Cincinnati a little bit
last week, Aaron Judge comes into town. It's like, Man,
I want to go to the ballpark because I want
to see that guy play. You mentioned the crowd at
Fenway last night. You mentioned the buzz in the air.
(01:00:02):
Do you get a sense that when the Reds are
coming into town and Ellie de la Cruz is coming
into town that people want to show up because they
want to see what he's about.
Speaker 6 (01:00:11):
I would say it was about sixty forty Red Sox
to Reds fans. I was really impressed and met a
lot of great people and it was awesome. You know,
my fourteen year old actually was wearing my jersey, which
was big for me because she doesn't really care that
I ever played. But when he Ellie stepped out of
(01:00:31):
the dugout, it was it was a cheer as loud
as any Red Sox guy. And they've got some great players,
so everybody knows he's a star. Everybody knows he's a
great player. He you know, it started with that play
at second, which was kind of an off throw, and
that just kind of was a different vibe from that
point on and where the Red Sox fans kind of
(01:00:51):
were like, oh, we've got a good shot here to
put some early runs up on the board. But you know,
then the Reds came right back, and honestly, that's what
pressed me the most. And whether it was Ellie or
anybody in that lineup, those guys didn't quit at all.
And that's that's a sign of great managing, great coaching.
The environment. You're in a historic building. That's another thing
that that again with Chase Burns. Of all the places
(01:01:15):
I pitched, and even when I was the American League,
I never got to pitch at Fenway, which is an
hour and a half from my house, and you know,
that place is crazy. It's got small dimensions, it's you know,
built in nineteen twelve. So that you know, people aren't
taking that into account with Chase and what his heart
rate was. You know, as he starts more games, maybe
(01:01:36):
his heart rate goes down. But no, man, these people
are great fans. They you know, whether Judge is there
or back in the day, Jeter or O'Neil or those
guys that you know, I think people were in Boston
or New York or anywhere in baseball understand that that
guys like Judge and Ellie, you know, enjoy them because
they're there. There's a different level of baseball player sometimes
(01:01:57):
and Ellie's that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Were you wearing reds gear last night? Letting people know
that No, I had a purple shirt. Oh come on,
I did not want.
Speaker 6 (01:02:04):
To stick out of My wife got out just by
the way. She was born and raised a Red Sox fan,
but she loved the reds Now too. But she's like, well,
you could have were red for both teams, and I'm like, listen,
I don't want to draw attention to myself. It's bad
enough with the tattoos and everything, and people do recognize
you from beating the video game to MLB the show.
But yeah, no, I don't want to draw attention to
(01:02:25):
me when I'm in the stands.
Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
I have to ask because the last time we had
you on, I asked you about Terry Francona and you know,
a new manager and how long does it take the
manager to really get a feel for the club, And
you said somewhere around that fifty game mark. And this
team was hovering right around five hundred or under five hundred.
And now all of a sudden, they've won six of
seven series, and they've done so against the Diamondbacks. They
went to Detroit. Best record in Baseball, and they beat
(01:02:48):
the Tigers, they beat the Twins. They won back to
back series at home against the Yankees and the Padres.
So it feels like Frankcona is starting to get more
of a of a feel of this team. As that happens,
I want to talk the culture of the locker room.
Last week, they made a decision. They moved on from
jam Ercandelaureo, and they owed him a lot of money.
But that's a decision that you don't really see them
(01:03:08):
make a ton They promoted Chase Burns. What does it
do for a locker room when you do call up
a top prospect or. Let's say they let's say the
Reds were to go out before the trade deadline and
they make a big addition they had a power bat,
which they desperately need. Are you paying attention to that
stuff in the locker room? That does that boost the
locker room morale? When the organization is going to go
(01:03:29):
out and say, yeah, we see what you're doing, we're
gonna support you, We're going to make an addition to
the squad.
Speaker 6 (01:03:34):
Thousand thousand percent of the Red Sox just did it.
They've moved on from Devs, their star was was being,
you know, an unstarly guy. He's not a good role model.
They just brought up Roman Anthony and uh you know,
uh was it Maser mayor Uh that they've they're two
tops and you know they're they're bringing up their prospects
(01:03:56):
and they're winning. So it's it's more about the culture
and you're also teaching the veterans got to teach. I'll
give you Alex Bregman. I watched them last night working
with Roman Anthony in between the bats. You have to
have that, you have to have a mix. And for Terry,
he wants the right guys, the guys that want to
show up and play. They want to come early. You know,
they're invested in winning this division and it's very winnable
(01:04:19):
for them. They're five and a half out of first.
They're playing almost five hundred on the road. If you
can play five hundred on the road, you start there,
then you need to play six fifty to seven to
fifty at a home. That's a given. And they're and
they're doing that as well. But when you go on
the road, you're you're up against a lot of stuff.
The travel, the hotels that going here and there by bus.
You know, it's it's a little bit different vibe than
(01:04:40):
sleeping in your own bed and stuff like that. And
for the younger players, they've got to make those adjustments.
I would say, like Burns or Roman, they're still living
in hotels right now because they don't have an apartment,
they don't have a condo. They don't have the money
to afford that stuff yet. So those guys have a
bunch of stuff that the only way they get comfortable
is the manager, the atmosphere, the other coaches. You know,
(01:05:03):
even like a Rick Stowe. You you've had like, you know,
two generations of Stow's in that locker room. He's one
of the greatest guys. Is dad Bernie was my equipment manager.
That's a guy that makes your life easier. Everything is
ready for you to go. You show up and like
you Tony, you know, when you go to the locker
room in a football locker room, you want all your
equipment laid out. You want your stuff because I want
(01:05:24):
to play football, I want to play baseball. I don't
want to worry about all the other stuff. And it's
hard enough at the major league level, like you said,
if they're sending out the stars that they owe sixty
five million or forty five million, or you know, hoping
somebody takes up two hundred and fifty million dollars on
their their thing like Dever's. You know, that's huge that
the club made that decision. It's it's it's ridiculously huge,
(01:05:47):
so it doesn't go unnoticed in the clubhouse. It also
brings a sense of urgency. Hey, if you can move
on from the stars, you can move on for me.
If I'm hitting two hundred to twenty or or I'm
you know, under five hundre as a pitcher and I
have a five E R A or a four e R.
You know, those are things that will make you work harder,
and that's why I'm happy the Reds are making those decisions.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Rob. This was awesome man. I can't thank you enough
for taking the time to join us today. I know

Yesterday after talkbacks, I heard Austin say something so disturbing
I almost drove off the road. I had no choice
but to park my car, say a quick prayer and
light up a cigarette. Austin, I can't believe you're giving
Deshaun Watts and his flowers because he seems to be
on the right tracks.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
And I said, well, okay, so the guy.
Speaker 12 (01:08:02):
Hasn't assaulted someone for a minute, and all of a sudden.
Speaker 13 (01:08:07):
At his feet.
Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
Seems to be turning a corner. That's not what I'm saying.
Not that a.
Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
Guy, But is it possible that guy might be taking
a picture with No? That's that is a lie.
Speaker 11 (01:08:23):
Boy, Austin, it doesn't take much to impress you, doesn't.
Speaker 14 (01:08:29):
Who am I?
Speaker 6 (01:08:31):
I love you?
Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
Just shown Wesson.
Speaker 6 (01:08:34):
You're doing good these days?
Speaker 5 (01:08:36):
Keep it up?
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
Make it?
Speaker 12 (01:08:43):
What would Austin say about the late Charles Manson? You
know Charles Manson, He hasn't ordered his followers.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
To kill anybody lately.
Speaker 12 (01:08:56):
I think he's really turned the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Good for him.
Speaker 11 (01:09:01):
I gotta give him his prom What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Just not at all? Act well done? That is just
not a hello.
Speaker 15 (01:09:12):
This is former president Ronald Reagan. Well, I know that
Burns was chased in the first inning of last night's game,
But did anyone try to find out why Chase got burned?
I mean, perhaps someone should ask Botox manager Alex Cora
about this. I could have sworn that I heard a
(01:09:32):
garbage can being hit before several key pitches.
Speaker 14 (01:09:38):
Solid solid continue to hit get the nail on the
head each and every day, standing on business.
Speaker 6 (01:09:47):
Rather you're swinging a silver hammer or regular hammer. You're
getting it done on the Bengals. You're absolutely right.
Speaker 14 (01:09:54):
Thirty million dollars in cap go get you some guards
protect the franchise because if he hain't out, they're up right.
You ain't competing for squad gets. You a safety to
do something about that backfield. Other kings are around, You're proven.
What are you doing setting on your hands?
Speaker 6 (01:10:10):
Hear that?
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
Speak it? Speak it?
Speaker 7 (01:10:15):
I have a pull question.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
Oh does Tony have a better chance getting a hit
off Wade Miley or Jose Trevino?
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
I could you could get a hit off for me?
Thank you? I'd still.
Speaker 14 (01:10:33):
It isn't too muffled going upstairs and taking a nap,
and I put the radio under my pillow like I
did if you could when it TRANSI radio.
Speaker 16 (01:10:43):
Yes, uh yeah, very poor Aldie Fortas burs But I
think as he gets more starts into the show, he's
gonna be okay for the team and also happy Bobby
Bola day.
Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
I did not know that.
Speaker 16 (01:11:00):
Also with him getting paid by the mess, he's also
getting paid by the Baltimore Orioles until twenty twenty eight
to four half a mil. That is outrageous and crazy.
Where do I need to sign up? I don't want
to play baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Get that agent, man, I didn't know the Orioles. You
get that agent.
Speaker 16 (01:11:17):
Twine from the Heights again with it? Say, oh, can
talk back? Got a question for you guys. Do you
think the Steelers are going all in this year with
the offseason acquisitions they have made so far? Because this
is possibly Mike tomlins last year coaching the team. I mean,
get credit, he have got that team to the playoffs
(01:11:39):
every year he's been coached, but I think his time
might be up. What you got?
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
Yeah, if if they get something worked out with TJ. Watt,
it does feel like they're all in. Rogers has said
this is it for him probably I could see that
kind of being the same for Tomlin. So yeah, if
that's the case and this is what you're gonna do
to go all in and give it a fair shot,
that I'm all for it. I agree.
Speaker 17 (01:12:02):
It's the Lord Happy A rainy Tuesday start bench cut.
Celebrating the fourth of July on a Friday, celebrating the
fourth of July on a Monday, or celebrating the fourth
of July the middle of the week.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
I think it's the Friday, I guess to start that
long weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
I think I'm gonna go Monday. Get the long weekend
on the back end, okay, backside.
Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Start bench, cut shar Middletown edition. Oh, Kyle Schwarber, Oh
Chris Carter or j D Manz Wow, jity Manz Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
I'm gonna start Chris Carter, buck eye, born and Bred
now hof or even after I'm dead?
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
What that's like? Thank you Chris Carter, but guy.
Speaker 16 (01:12:50):
Born and Bridge now jof for even after I'm bid.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
Thank you man. I wonder what it's like to give
a speech like that. I'll start Ky Schwarber because he's
from Middletown and he hits dangers al Bench, Chris Carter,
and then Jade Vance is going to be on that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
That particular guy, JD Mantse he called him.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Yeah, I don't know who that is. I don't know
who j I'm cutting him.
Speaker 18 (01:13:11):
Hey, I just wanted to ask you, Vegas has the
Bengals that ten and a half wins this year? Are
you guys going to go with the over?
Speaker 14 (01:13:19):
Under?
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
With that?
Speaker 18 (01:13:20):
I'm going to go under because of the strength of schedule.
On the one week, they have Baltimore Buffalo Baltimore, and
you know, I just don't think that they're going to
be an eleven team win. But I'm going to say
under ten and a half. What is your opinion on
the schedule and what do you predict that the Bengals
will do this.
Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
Year over I'm an eleven or twelve wins. I got
him at ten and seven, So I would take the under.
Speaker 5 (01:13:42):
Tony Austin John, what's more likely that the defensive line
impresses you more than you were expecting or the offensive
line impresses you more than you're expecting? Two very different
types of what's more different types of things going there?
You know which one do you think would be more surprising?
Austin I think thinks it's the defensive line, hence why
(01:14:05):
he thinks Joseph Side is gonna have ten sacks. I would,
and I will probably still take that bet to be determined.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
I would be more surprised if the O line is good,
if that makes sense right, and it would. It would
shock me more if the O line was better than
what we think it is.
Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
Like with me, I'm expecting the defensive line to produce.
I feel like I'm the only guy that is. But
I'm expecting them to be good. Second year for Jackson
and Jenkins, Osai on approve it deal, Miles Murphy, They're
gonna give every opportunity to be the guy and appears
(01:14:45):
to be a not it's that time of the year,
but best shape of his life. Oh, he's gonna get
that chance. Cam Sample back to help against the run game,
like better linebacker play behind him.
Speaker 6 (01:14:56):
T J.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Slayton in there as well, like for all those really
like I think the defensive line will produce. When we
talked about my expectations for that group are higher, probably
than most people. So I guess it's more likely that
the offensive line would impress me more than I'm expecting
because I'm already expecting a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
From the day we talked yesterday, Sharp Football had them
as the thirty first ranked offensive line right If they outperform,
I would be way more surprised at that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
The thing that I just keep coming back to that
I'm worried about is another year older for Brown and
Karris Amarius Mims, with the new offensive line coach, and
then relying on two guys that are relatively unproven.
Speaker 4 (01:15:35):
This is DJ enjoyed the segment with Rob Dibble, thanks
to you agree with most everything he said.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
One thing I.
Speaker 12 (01:15:43):
Will disagree with, though, is the pits clock is saved baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Baseball was getting crear. It wasn't even watchable. Now it's entertaining.
It doesn't take a whole day to watch a game.
So other than that, though, I think he has a
lot of insight. I think it saves from a viewer standpoint,
but I think from a former picture standpoint, I could
see why they a pitcher would dislike it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:09):
Yeah, pictures hate it. I get that from a fan
of baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (01:16:15):
Man.
Speaker 19 (01:16:15):
Chase Burns got absolutely a rock last night.
Speaker 20 (01:16:19):
Didn't interesting to me.
Speaker 19 (01:16:21):
The stark difference between Game one and Game two for
him virtually untouchable against the Yankees lineup aside from that
one inning, and very touchable against.
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
The Red Sox lineup just got brushed.
Speaker 19 (01:16:36):
Kind of reminds me of the Bengals in September versus
the Bengals in December. You know, Hey, what's Rob Dibble's
middle name?
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
Double double dibble man. I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
That's pretty good. I like that he described Chase Burns
as very touchable. Would anybody ever describe you as that
don't negative? Okay, here is you know, interesting comparison here.
I saw this from our unofficial statman, Lance McAllister. In
Chase Burns first three major league innings, he was one
(01:17:10):
for ten. Opponents against him were one for ten with
seven strikeouts in his two and a third innings. Since
batters are ten for eighteen, two walks, two doubles, a
triple and two home runs. They are hitting four to
sixty two on his four seam fastball, four hundred on
(01:17:31):
his slider. His hard hit rate is sixty percent. The
MLB average is thirty six point eight. He got one
swing and miss on the Red Sox in seventeen swings.
He got twelve on forty one with the Yankees. Those
are some numbers for you, courtesy of Lance McAllister.
Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
Come on on, what up, Tony?
Speaker 6 (01:17:57):
What up body? Y'all?
Speaker 7 (01:17:59):
Chase got burnt laslast night. It is what it is.
Speaker 8 (01:18:01):
Welcome to the big leagues, homie, Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies.
Speaker 7 (01:18:05):
Yo, you want to be a part of the show.
This is how it goes.
Speaker 8 (01:18:08):
Let's see how you readjust to come back strongest, Philadelphia.
Speaker 7 (01:18:11):
We're watching that bite lings, we're watching your poise.
Speaker 6 (01:18:14):
Yo.
Speaker 8 (01:18:14):
The Reds didn't get beat down pretty bad. They did
go down swinging. I saw a lot of positive things
out the L. So remember, winning series is all that
matters right now. Finish strong for the All Star break.
Let's get it.
Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
Yeah, I mean, I think most of us already had
Garrett Crochet as a loss on the road trip, So
move on.
Speaker 6 (01:18:32):
Hey guys, it's gone for Meay Scott.
Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
I could listen to Rob Devil all day.
Speaker 6 (01:18:37):
Yeah, I man totally understands baseball, and the line of
the day has to be I'm gonna hit you just
for wearing all that crap. Have a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
I like he said, he'll hit you just for wearing
all that crap. Or if a guy took one off
the off the wall, he might just throw it the
next guy.
Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
Rob devilehead and change, I would say, over the years are.
Speaker 21 (01:19:08):
Who Let's go man, shout out to shop Mark Dashy
and hoo.
Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
Yeah, uh huh.
Speaker 3 (01:19:16):
You know what they're talking about now, the Optic Gaming
taking home a championship over the weekend CDL World change.
Speaker 16 (01:19:24):
Don't.
Speaker 3 (01:19:25):
I don't mess with that ever since I bet on it.
Come on, now, I got beaten.
Speaker 22 (01:19:28):
One of those guys, it's Tim kirk and according to
my sources, the limitations on burial grounds have been impressed
by secondary options of green burial spaces and cremations. Look
back still remains that burial sites are still occupied by
many people, but yet people are dying to get in there.
Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
Thank you, Tim.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
It's wow good stuff that I keep seeing clips from
Tim Kirchen's new podcast. Him and his son do one together,
and it's funny because his son sounds exactly like him,
and every time I see the clip, all I can
think about is our Tim Kirchin on talkback.
Speaker 23 (01:20:11):
Hey guys, Steve from Washington stated, Yeah, you know the
pitchclock thing. I was surprised when Doubele said it, but
double preempted that with talking about, you know, the weather
and how hot it was how we rock crochet, which
was really nice. But you know, he might have something
for weather related like when it's ridiculously hot, giving the
(01:20:33):
picture an extra five seconds or something might be something
worth looking into.
Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Yeah, I mean it kind of goes back to that
conversation we have Bob man Jean last week. Yeah, so
I think there's that's maybe a possibility you know the
other thing too. I saw Xavier Scrubbs Scrugs on MLB
network was talking about how Chase Burns was throwing a
lot of pitches with twelve seconds left on the pitch clock.
Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
Oh, now I didn't see.
Speaker 3 (01:20:56):
He wasn't like taking a breath, he wasn't relaxed. Yeah,
I did see.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
You know, there was a conversation going on on social
media that you could like see based on his forearm
and how tense and tight he was gripping the ball
right the width of the glove. You know, if that
was the case, you might just have to throw on
that like three quarter long sleeve. Yeah, let that thing
that just Now, there is good news for Chase Purns.
(01:21:21):
After he pitches on the sixth of July, He's going
to get an opportunity Austin on Friday night, July eleventh,
Firework Friday, to pitch against the Colorado Rockies before the
All Star break. Okay, so stay the.
Speaker 3 (01:21:35):
Course, young man. Yeah, it can stay there as simple too,
as like a different glove. Sure is that glove he
uses really bright. It's easy to see and you can
tell maybe when it's wider and when it's thinner. Depending
on the grip that he's you know, or maybe a
glove with a different hand pattern that changes the way
your fingers are. Like this is like really really the
(01:21:55):
heat down to the But.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Dibble also mention too, like the the way Alex Bregman
has been for the Red Sox, Like that's where a
hunter Green or someone a veteran can help out as
well on a day like today. Well that's what I
saw last night's.
Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
Let's talk about Nick Martinez talking to Connor Phillips last
night when he came into the dugout after giving up
the Grand Slam, like that sort of stuff. Alex Bregman
also very well versed in sign Steely.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
I think we bang.
Speaker 24 (01:22:20):
What you're doing trying to Dre Dre Andrickson is bad.
It's very bad. It's terribly bad. Nothing like it has
ever been attempted before in the history of the National
Football League. It's bad. I will not vote for it.
(01:22:42):
I will veto it at every given chance. Go Bengalsh, all.
Speaker 25 (01:22:47):
Right, Okay, yeah, I believe that outing for Chase Burns
will help him grow or to be an elite electric
electric pitcher. It's good to see the Reds had to
battle back, even though they took took the the a
s s kicking, but we're gonna win the series, Go Reds.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
It just sounds like that he's out enjoying nature on
a little bit of a walk, just thinking about last
night a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
Yeah, has it stopped raining yet? I haven't looked outside.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
It's like it is supposed to clear up this afternoon.
All right, that's good news. I'm in favor of that. Yeah,
all right, that was our last one. Favor the temperatures
going down a little bit more. Did you see it's uh,
it's not gonna happen. The temperatures. No.
Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
Great, this weekend we're going we're flirting with the mid
nineties again again, all right, supposed to be hotter and
you know what really on fourth of July in favor
of that.
Speaker 2 (01:23:39):
Yeah, find a pool. Yeah, be tough to set by
that barbecue though, Why heat emanating from a barbecue, flipping
them burgers, grilling some dogs? You're gonnavite me over, I'm
not having anything at our house. Yeah, okay, sure you are. No,
it's actually my wife. My wife her dad celebrates a
birthday on the fourth of July, so we celebrate, That's right.
(01:24:03):
That's right. And then another my uncle, do you do fireworks?
Not really the people the folks in bluest do a
really good job, but it's just so crowded. Not great
with crowds right now with all the kids. But my
uncle has stepped up this year and he said, hey,
we're going to have people over for the fourth and
I look forward to his grilling and what he's able
(01:24:26):
to provide as a host for the Fourth of July.
All Right, what are some other Fourth of July go tos?
I feel like it's pretty simple. People cook out, people
find a pool, and people do fireworks. Is there anything
else on the Fourth of July that happens?
Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
Not that I can think of, outside of celebrating this
greats who've made this nation great. I know a lot
of towns do, uh like parades and stuff, really do
like Veterans parades.
Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
We do like a Memorial Day parade. I don't know
if we do a Fourth of July parade.
Speaker 3 (01:24:54):
I know a lot a lot of places will do
like a parade celebrate how great America is. See now
I have a burger, a dog, freedom, and a swimming pool.
Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
Well you gotta you can't forget Joey Jobs and Joey
Chestnut of Joey Chestnut. I saw somewhere before, like could
you eat? How long did they have in the hot
dog getting contest? Ten minutes? If if you had an
hour to do what they do in ten minutes, you
think you could compete? No, I don't. How long would
(01:25:25):
you need it to be competitive? A couple of years
probably like years of training. No, like a couple of
years to get that many hot dogs down? Okay, he
ate like seventy two and ten minutes. Yeah, you know
they can get seventy two seventy a year. I I
definitely don't. Yeah, if it's chili cheese sandwiches, I might
be able to flirt with.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
That, sure, Yeah. I mean if it's Cony's, it's a
different story, correct. I. You know what's most underrated about
the fourth of July over there with the Nathan's Hot
Dog Eating Contest is what happens prior to it, which
is my guy, Eric Badland's book book in the Lemonade.
That's my favorite thing to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:26:02):
If there's a way to get ready for the hot
dog getting contest, load up on lemonade.
Speaker 3 (01:26:06):
I mean there's a if you just look up bad
Lands Booker on Google. I just searched it. It takes you.
There's a it takes you to his YouTube channel, which
is bad Lands Chugs.
Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
This dude's got almost four million subscribers, and his top
video right now is he has a giant wine glass
that he fills with every single type of mountain dew.
Oh boy, every single Baja Blast. Yes, he even with
the Taco bell and has a Baja Blast and he
fills the thing up, and I mean it's gotta be disgusting.
(01:26:43):
Mountain dew voltage, Baja Blast code red.
Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
And just takes it.
Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
There's one called mountain dew violet, which I've never even
heard of. He pours these things all the way in
and just chugs this giant wine glass. Man, it's insane.
Bad Lands Booker is a beast. Yeah, he's my favorite.
Shout out to the fourth of July, man, shout out
to the I get mad when people like don't like
(01:27:07):
the hot dog eating contest. Yeah, that's kind of where
you stand your ground. Yeah, like that's this is good stuff.
You pushba this Americana. Yeah, have a little bit of
respect for Eric Badland's Booker Joey Jaws, Kobe Yashi.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
Yeah, what's Zobeyashi? Retired? Didn't he?
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
I know?
Speaker 24 (01:27:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:27:21):
What's the other? Dude always wears the red soize it's
a girl's name, like the Spider.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
Something like that. Yeah, it's the best ten minutes in sports.
I'm excited. We got to take a break.
Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
When we come back, we'll wrap up the second hour,
and then we'll welcome in our own version of Tom
Brady to kick off our three. That is, of course,
Jeremy Row filling in for Joe bled Cell who's still
on vacation. Jeremy Row. At two o'clock. We'll finish up

Speaker 2 (01:28:24):
Hey, welcome back. It is the third and final hour
of Cincy three sixty on this Tuesday afternoon, the first
day of July, meaning this month Bengals training camp is
going to happen, and we actually see an NFL game
played on July thirty first, and all that happening while
the Reds are right in the middle of a wild
card hunt in the National League. So there are many
(01:28:45):
things happening right now, which leads us to our next guest,
who is covering all of those things for Fox nineteen
and kind enough to join us our very own version
of Tom Brady. It's Jeremy Raw.
Speaker 21 (01:28:55):
Hi, Jeremy whoa my own version of Tom Brady.
Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
Okay, well, all.
Speaker 21 (01:29:03):
Right, okay in that case. In that case, let me
give me about a couple of days. Let me get
some plastic surgery on my face.
Speaker 4 (01:29:12):
I will come back.
Speaker 3 (01:29:15):
That's a shot, Jeremy, that's a shot at the.
Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Worst, I said Joe Joe Bloodsoe is still on his
way back from vacation. So we got Tom Brady filling
in again.
Speaker 21 (01:29:28):
Okay, look, Tom Brady is a and if you don't
need to take from me. But Tom Brady is a
very good looking man. But I feel like the older
he gets, he looks more and more like Fire Marshall Bills.
I'll one of Jim Carrey's greatest characters. If you guys
know you, yes, he looks it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:29:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 21 (01:29:47):
I don't want to. I know I have not accomplished
as much as Tom Brady in my career yet, but
I just want.
Speaker 3 (01:29:55):
To put coworker man, that's your Fox co worker.
Speaker 21 (01:30:01):
That's right, hey, coming on. He just accepted award over
the I saw a video his wife sent me of
him accepting the very prestigious award Ohio Sportscaster of the
Year from Mike Trico, which is really cool, by the way.
And I'm so proud of Joe and I've said it
a million times. I know he's like an older brother
and I joke and jab about him, but he truly
(01:30:22):
I'm going to when I retire one day at eighty
seven years old, give or take, I am going to
look back on my career and say, wow, I worked
with one of the greatest ever to do at Local TV.
I truly mean that. I'm not going to tear up,
but I Joe is awesome. I love to give him
a hard time, but truly proud of him.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Jeremy. There is a lot going on right now with
what the Reds are doing and what the Bengals have
coming up. Before any of that, there's also a big
UC football uniform reveal happening tomorrow. Do you have any
insight as to what this reveal may look like for
the new uniform?
Speaker 21 (01:31:02):
Yeah, so, I actually just I just texted a couple
of people within the program. This is gonna sound weird,
but it's it's just like a blow up of Tony
Pike's face all overform. It's And the weird thing is
is like, there are certain parts of your face Tony
that like, you have some good features, Tom Brady. So
(01:31:24):
it's it's a really unique look. It's And the weird
thing is because your face, you know, you know, it's
kind of like a pale white being from Redding. It
looks like a it's almost like a nude look. So
it's hard to tell if the players are wearing a
jersey or not.
Speaker 4 (01:31:38):
But it's it's gonna be cool.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
That is fantastic inside. I can't wait to see the
actual reveal uh tomorrow morning. Last night in Boston, Chase
Burns made his second big league start. It did not
go as well as his first big league started, led
to questions about the possibility of tipping pitches. What what
did you make with what you from Chase Burns in
(01:32:03):
Boston last night? And I think it drives home the
fact of how hard this game is and you're facing
very good hitters no matter when you're taking the mound.
But what was your takeaway from what you watched last night?
Speaker 21 (01:32:15):
Well, first of all, I mean, can you imagine your
first two major league starts being against the Yankees and
the Red Sox. I realized the Red Sox have been
somewhat underwhelming this year on the bigger picture, but like
to have those do your first two starts is just incredible.
I mean, I think we started to see a little
bit of what it looks like when you see a
young pitcher star or not checking time through the Yankees
(01:32:37):
lineup last week, you start to see, Okay, you have
to truly learn how to pitch right. It's not just
going out there and being a big time talent, a
big time young prospect and all those things. You have
to learn how to pitch truly and hit your spots
and have the right pitch at the right time and
the right approach. To major leaguers, it is such a
(01:32:59):
different ballgame so many ways. So I mean, I think
it's easy to say to sit here and say, well, man,
like we should be concerned about shakes burns. But I
think the kid is just learning still what it looks
like to be up here. But I know for a fact,
you know, talking with the Reds, talking with the organization
and players and coaches and what they know and believe
about him, that I don't think there should be true
(01:33:20):
cause for concern for the kid in his second start.
What we saw out of him in that first game,
the first time to the lineup, some of the pitches
that he made, you can see why the organization believes
in him. My players call him electric and dynamic and
such a competitor. I don't think last night needs to
be one of those things where you say, Okay, he
(01:33:40):
can't hang up here. I do think though, however, it's
also a reminder of where he is, how young he is,
and even though some even myself were wondering, okay, how
long does he stay up? Does he need to stay
up here. Can he be an integral part of this
team going forward past the All Star break, in the
trade deadline, or whatever it might be. I think it
just shapes the conversation a bit. You start being reminded of, Okay,
(01:34:03):
Hunter Green hopefully is back very soon. He needs to
be in the rotation, and then we'll see what happens
with Chase Burns going forward. He doesn't need to be
up here all year long. They just need to see
how can they best use him going forward and see
how he bounces back as well.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
How much pressure obviously does that put when when you
have a starter at the last a third of an
inning you turn to tonight Obviously a lot of pressure
now on Brady Singer not just to deliver a quality start,
but to try to get a little bit deeper into
the game for the Cincinnati Reds, who obviously had to
exhaust a lot of their bullpen last night.
Speaker 21 (01:34:38):
It's a lot of pressure. It's something that you know
is gonna you know, like, this is why Terry Francon
is here right Like he's one of.
Speaker 4 (01:34:44):
Those guys that is supposed to be so good.
Speaker 21 (01:34:47):
In game at times and understanding when to make the
right moves at the right time, and so it puts
a lot of pressure on tonight's game how the rest
of the series plays out. But Baseball's baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:34:56):
It's weird.
Speaker 21 (01:34:57):
You never know, right, Like we saw Nick Martinez go,
you know, basically almost a complete game, almost a no
hitter on Friday night, and you think the bullpen is rested,
it's all good. And so Saturday, when Andrew Abbott is
scuffling a bit and the bullpen comes off rest you
figure this is a slam dunk wins for the Reds
and they blow it on Saturday. And so I think
it's just it's one of those things where it's hard
(01:35:17):
to always see how it plays out. You can stretch
out about it and say the bullpen was taxed last night,
Yes it was, But I think looking at the arms
they used last night, I still think they're at a
decent spot going into the night's game as long as
things go well for Brady Singer.
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
If there was a silver lining in last night's game,
this team did continue to fight, and they did so
against something they've struggled with mightily this year. That's left
handed starting pitching. And you could argue that Garrett Crochet
might be the best left handed started going in Major
League Baseball. They hit him as well as anyone has
all season. Can you take away some good from at
(01:35:54):
least what you saw from the offense last night, especially
a guy like Matt McClain with three hits, Austin Hayes
homers and triples. Can you still take positives away from
a loss like that last night?
Speaker 21 (01:36:04):
Absolutely you can. I mean if you go back to
last night's game and you think about, I mean, first
of all, what happened with Chase Burns, and you get
that massive deficit early in the game, and you think
about how they battled back. I mean, if you were
watching the game, you see the Reds get it to
seven to four in the fifth inning, and all of
a sudden you're thinking about, Oh, this team is actually
back in the game. They have a real chance here.
(01:36:25):
And that happened a couple of different ways, even when
you know Austin Hayes homers in the sixth it's eight
to five. I think those are good phrase of this team, and.
Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
Not just that.
Speaker 21 (01:36:34):
I have believed since stay one, well since day one
for Austin Hayes, And if you've watched this team. You
see just how important Austin hays is to this team,
to this lineup. I think it's very promising to see
him deliver the way he has already since he came
back from the IL again. I think he's such a
big part of what this team does going forward. Obviously
(01:36:57):
McLain has been I think going well for the most
part the last couple of weeks or so. We talked
about this recently. I know Spencer Steer was zero for
four last night, Joe Dee and myself talked about this,
and I may have mentioned it with you guys already,
but it's like, who is a guy that needs to
be turning a corner right away? Who needs to be
going well? Who needs to be a big impact on
(01:37:19):
this team? Is it Spencer Steer or Matt McClain. If
you had to pick one, who's more important? I said recently,
I think it's Matt McLain. I would argue based off
last week how that played out, seeing what Spencer Steer did.
I think Spencer Steer is so important to this team's success. Yeah,
I mentioned Austin Hayes. Yes, Matt McLain is as well.
We know the other stars in this team are important,
the Hunter Greens, the Ellie's, and Andrew Abbotts, TJ. Friedel,
(01:37:42):
But I think that Spencer Steer is a massive part
of this team pushing for a playoff spot, and I
think we sold that front and center in the past
week or so on.
Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
The side of the Bengals. Jeremy As we spent a
few more minutes with Jeremy Round from Fox nineteen. We
are now in the month of July, which means training
camp is happening this month. July twenty third is day one.
We talked a little bit on this show yesterday about
the biggest remaining question for this team. And yes, you
could point the Trey Hendrickson, you could point to Shamars Dowart,
(01:38:12):
you could point to any of those positions on defense,
but we both came back to the offensive line. The
folks at Sharp Football actually ranked the Bengals the thirty
first ranked offensive line going into this season, and I
think they have more upside than that. But as you
sit here today, what is your biggest question mark right
now still remaining with this roster for the Bengals, the entire.
Speaker 21 (01:38:38):
Roster, I think there are a lot of question marks
you know, I could point to the offensive line league
you talked about it. I don't mean to flip it
back to the defense because certainly, I think you know
you're wondering, Okay, if Lucas Patrick is the guy he
comes in here, can he be a guy that helps
solidify the interier of that offensive line? Is Dylan Fairchild
ready he's gonna have rookie mistakes? Is he a guy
(01:39:00):
that can do that? I don't think they should be
rated as one of the worst offensive lines than football,
just to say that up front, because as you look
across the board, you are going to see so many
weak spots on so many offensive lines across the NFL.
The Bengals get that rating, I feel like because they
have been such a big talking point because their quarterback
(01:39:21):
is one of the biggest superstars in the NFL. I
feel like that's always attached. You guys can disagree with
me if you want. If you have a superstar quarterback,
the offensive line gets a bigger spotlights. I feel like
that always plays out that well, So I would disagree
with that. I think they're in a decent spot.
Speaker 4 (01:39:35):
If you were to ask me my.
Speaker 21 (01:39:36):
Biggest concern, and I've said this recently on our shows.
The one thing that keeps me awake at night is
still the safety position for the Bengals. I know the
Bengals wanted to upgrade there that they believed they could.
I had conversations with the team around the draft and
getting extra draft picks they thought they were going to
get at some point by trading back. They couldn't find
(01:39:58):
trade partners they wanted, and so they wanted to specifically.
I know for a fact talking with the organization, they
wanted to beef up at safety even beyond the draft.
They had thoughts of adding help at safety this summer,
this offseason. Now, the book is not written on the
Bengals yet in the off season, I get that, but
I know for a fact they understood that they didn't
(01:40:20):
feel completely comfortable at safety. So now here you are
with Jordan Battologino Stone to start the conversation, and there
are question marks about what they can be still, and
I think that to me is the biggest glaring hole
on this Bengals roster. Still, we'll see how that plays
out in training camp and heading up the Week one.
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
I still think Shamar Stewart ends up getting done sooner
rather than later. But the Trey Hendrickson thing, to me,
Jeremy remains fascinating because now I'm sitting here thinking, if
you're Trey Hendrickson, you have no rush to get to
the negotiating table. You can wait and see what happens
with TJ. Watt, you can wait and see what happens
with Micah Parsons, and if those players get into the forties,
(01:40:59):
you can then come back and say, look, Miles Garrett,
Micah Parsons, TJ. Wat, they're all above forty. I'm not
asking for forty. I just want maybe thirty two, thirty three.
It's going to change the negotiating price. If you're Trey Hendrickson,
do you concern yourself that this does play out through
the duration of training camp with the side of Trey
(01:41:20):
Hendrickson not really rushing to the table to wait and
see what other guys do.
Speaker 21 (01:41:25):
Yeah, I still don't know exactly how Trey is going
to approach training camp. You know, without this new contract,
it's going to be intesting to see because I think
Trade cares so much about what people think of him
and how he approaches football, his character and I've said
that again and again, but this to me is we
can use revisionist history he or we can talk about
Jamar Chase and with the Bengals should have done, which
(01:41:47):
would have been to pay him earlier, because the price
only goes up to your point, Tony, the price only
goes up on Trey Henderson. The longer longer the Bengals
wait to get this done. Now, Tray and wait as well.
But I think they can find a number that makes sense.
And it's not just a number, it is the years
and the guarantees. We all know this. Trey wants be
(01:42:08):
guaranteed that his family is in a good spot based
on what he has produced at least the last couple
of years in the NFL. So to me, if the
Bengals could find that sweet spot for Trey, whether it
be thirty to thirty two somewhere in there. I know
that before the number has been twenty eight, so maybe
now it's up to thirty or so. But get in
there and get this done and find a way to
(01:42:29):
convince Trey based on guarantee numbers, amount of years, maybe
give yourself an out in year three. I know that's
been talked about a lot. If it's a three year contract,
give yourself a soft landing spot in year three for
the Bengals to kind of help them out. But I
think they need to find a way to get this
done sooner than later, Otherwise, like it had so many
times in the past, the Bengals are going to pay
(01:42:49):
tax on this based on other contracts.
Speaker 2 (01:42:52):
If that's the case, do you think if the Bengals
were to come back to the table now and say, Okay,
let's get this done now and maybe the number thirty
thirty one, thirty two, do you think Trey would still
be willing to sign that now or do you think
he would be kind of in this waiting game now
to see what happens with those other two contracts. That's
what fascinates me of if the Bengals can see that.
(01:43:13):
Obviously Trey's camp would know that as well. But do
you think they could still get a deal done before
those other deals were to happen if they came up
in the amount of years in the contract.
Speaker 21 (01:43:23):
Based on everything that I have heard, and I know
I believe that they got to those numbers, I think
they could find.
Speaker 7 (01:43:29):
A way to get it done.
Speaker 3 (01:43:30):
I really do.
Speaker 21 (01:43:30):
I think that, And I can't speak for Trey because
I'm not Trey Henderson. I think Trey has to in
his camp, had to have some wherewithal about his age
and where he is, whether or not he wants to
accept that. I realized that he probably does not want
to as a competitor, but I think it's one of
those things where you have to kind of say, Okay,
(01:43:51):
this is this is a good spot for us to
be understanding all the work that we have done, what
we put in to get to this number. I think
that's where you sit down and say, let's sign this
thing and get it done. That's where I would be
based on what I know. I think that would make
sense for both the team and for Trey. But again,
when it comes to the table and actually signing, I'm
(01:44:12):
Notre Anderson.
Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
The Steelers made a move yesterday and sent Mika Fitzpatrick
out the door acquired Jalen Ramsey. When you look at
the Bengals in comparison to the rest of the division,
the way Baltimore has approached their offseason, you mentioned there's
still a lot of question marks on the Bengals roster.
How do you feel like they stack up with Baltimore
(01:44:34):
and Pittsburgh right now based off their off.
Speaker 21 (01:44:37):
Season, Well, it's interesting, you know, I think that. I mean,
first of all, I think that the Ravens have approached
the off season in a pretty impressive way. I mean,
you think about what the Ravens have been as an offense.
You know, a lot of that largely is not changing.
(01:44:57):
I don't think they had a lot of concerns there.
I don't think they should. But the kind of you know,
player they have on Lamar Jackson what he can do.
But you know, Jamar Chase basically owns the Ravens franchise
right now when it comes to what he's done with them.
You know, I realize that hasn't resulted in wins, but
my goodness for Joe Brow and Jamar Chase have done
to that defense. I mean, it got to be embarrassed
(01:45:20):
in some ways, and I think that they are aware
of that. I mean, you could just you can start
with a guy like Malachi Starts, who I absolutely loved,
who I absolutely love the drafts and I would have
been hands and knees begging for the Bengals to take
a guy like him if I were a diehard Bengals
fan and you see him go to the Ravens. You think,
(01:45:41):
my goodness, you know, then Lamar Jackson is asking for
best buds to come play with him, you know, and
Ajiro Alexander like guys like that where you just think, Okay,
they're getting better and better on defense, they're already a
prolific offense.
Speaker 6 (01:45:52):
I think the.
Speaker 21 (01:45:52):
Ravens certainly would lead the conversation in my opinion, as
the Steelers go. I think they have had a good
off season. I still don't know what Aaron Rodgers is
going to bring to them, I really don't. Jalen Ramsey
has been a really good player in the NFL. I
don't know how much Jalen Ramsey has left at an
(01:46:16):
elite level. At an elite level, I mean, you know,
it's like he's been a guy who's obviously had an
impressive career. So that's a nice move, you know. I
think if the Bengals made that kind of a move,
it would feel like like if you were a Bengals
standing and you saw Jalen Ramsey, you'd say, oh, that's
really cool. But then if you thought about it for
like two or three days, you'd start to have those
feelings of like, I don't really know that this is
that big of a move for us, with that much
(01:46:38):
of an impact right now. So, you know, the Steelers,
they've had a, you know, a decent offseason. I understand
the moves that they've made and curious to see what
their offense can be. But the Ravens, to me, had
glaring questions, and the Ravens were aware of where they
needed help and got help in those spots and even
some backup help in those spots. I think the Ravens
have been very impressive and much more impressive by far
(01:46:59):
than the Bengal.
Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
His name is Jeremy Row. He's doing everything for Fox nineteen.
You're a certified bucket on the basketball court. Do you
have an NBA team that you pulled for?
Speaker 6 (01:47:10):
Jeremy?
Speaker 21 (01:47:13):
First of all, that's very kind of you to say, Man,
if I could go back, coach have put me in,
I could shoot a football over those mountains. I could
shoot a basketball over those mountains. I'm mixing Uncle Rico
in my career, okay, I was. I was a diehard
Cleveland Cavaliers fan for a long time, and you know,
(01:47:36):
Lebron has a mixed to my emotions. So many times.
You can talk to Joe d about this. From twenty
fifteen to twenty eighteen, my relationship with Joe Daneman. He
a Warriors fan, me a Cavs fan. We did not
have a healthy relationship. We went to counseling. I constantly
went in as humble as I could be to the
(01:47:57):
counselor and said it's not me, it's him, and Joe
disagreed with that. At one point, when Draymond Green was
suspended for a game in the twenty sixteen NBA Finals,
I distinctly remember Joe d throwing a pencil and the
lead broke and went flying across the floor when he
found out Draymond was going to get suspended. And the
Cats ended up coming back to three one and winning
(01:48:18):
the championships. So but I don't really That was a
lot of digress there, and I apologize. I don't really
have a team that I root die.
Speaker 7 (01:48:28):
Hard for anymore.
Speaker 21 (01:48:29):
Like in the Finals, I didn't care who won. I
wanted a good series, and so it was devastating to
see Haliburton go down like he did in Game seven.
I just wanted a good game. So I don't really
have a team right now. I just kind of root
for storylines and players.
Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
And seeing what some of these free agents are getting.
What do you think you would be your your market
value right now in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (01:48:51):
That's a good question.
Speaker 21 (01:48:52):
You know, what does a five to eleven and three
quarters white guy who likes the Jack three three have
much inside game? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:49:00):
What does he make in today's NBA?
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
I mean, Dennis Ruder just got another forty five million
dollar deal, you know, Uh, the Mavericks are given D'Angelo
Russell thirteen million. The NBA contracts are one of the
craziest things to me because you dive into these and
have these guys play like six minutes a game and
they're getting fifteen million dollars. I am. I am in
all every year when NBA free agency happens. At the
(01:49:26):
contract values that some of these players get.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
D Russ got thirteen thirteen.
Speaker 6 (01:49:33):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
He's cooked. He He's a beast.
Speaker 4 (01:49:38):
I will say.
Speaker 21 (01:49:39):
You know, his Twitter used to say forever d Russ loading,
And I think he's done loading now, So it's I would.
Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
He's a completed project.
Speaker 21 (01:49:49):
I would say that I could maybe if I were
actually like a decent version of me at an NBA level,
I could probably make about ten million a year. Yeah,
I could, I could pull that fair.
Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
Sure, that's absolutely fair with that. We're gonna let you go.
What uh what? What's the next thing going for Fox nineteen?
What do you guys got coming up here? Joe or Jeremy?
Speaker 21 (01:50:09):
I'm sorry, wow, man, you know wow, my favorite my, Hey, hey,
my favorite coworkers do it to me all the time.
Speaker 6 (01:50:16):
Often.
Speaker 21 (01:50:17):
I'm sorry, Tony, it happens all the time. We look
we theod thing. I would plug right now. We're kind
of in a slow part of summer. I gotta be
honest with you. We we are going to continue to
churn out the best content we have. I would just say,
if I were to tease down the line, this is
a heavy tease.
Speaker 6 (01:50:34):
Okay.
Speaker 21 (01:50:35):
We've got a couple of big time Bengals receivers. One
of them is a current receiver, one of them one
of them is a receiver from the past that we
were working on doing a special sit down with and
kind of having like a fun conversation with them. That's
coming up heading in the training camp here in a
few weeks. So, a couple of big time star receivers
(01:50:56):
for the Bengals we're talking with. We're looking forward to that.
But other than that, we've got, you know, the Sunday
night Cincinnati Sports Show. My mother in law recently said
to me like, hey, I heard you have a special
coming up Sunday at eleven thirty, and I said, well,
that's every single week now.
Speaker 4 (01:51:10):
And she was so excited about that.
Speaker 21 (01:51:12):
And so every Sunday night at eleven thirty eleven thirty
to midnight, we have our Cincinnati Sports Show, a mix
of storytelling and conversations and son and I really I
say this. I know I work for Fox nineteen, but
it's my favorite show we do, so tune into that
on Sunday night to eleven thirty. Otherwise, as the saying goes,
Fox nineteen now never stops. We were always on love it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:33):
Jeremy, thank you so much and we appreciate your time.
Have a great rest of your weekend. Enjoy the holiday weekend.
Speaker 21 (01:51:38):
Please, Hey, thank you as sorry, thank you, Tony. I
have a great one.
Speaker 2 (01:51:45):
Guys, the best that is a Jeremy Row from Fox nineteen.
I deserve that guy. I deserve that Love that guy,
you know. That was something Jeremy said in that segment
as it pertains to the Bengals that I want to
revisit when we come back. Since he three to sixty.
Thanks to Penn Station on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 7 (01:52:06):
Now your chance to win one thousand dollars enter this knee.
Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
Hey, welcome back, thanks for joining us. Since he three
to sixty. We are rolling along in the third and
final hour of the show for this Tuesday afternoon, the
first of July. Jeremy row just said something as he
joined us to kick off the third and final hour
of Austin where he says that he knows for a
fact at this Bengals team wanted to add a safety,
(01:52:42):
whether that was via the draft, whether that was free agency,
he knows they went into this process wanting to upgrade
the safety position. Now we know at the draft that
they did not do anything from a pick or player
standpoint to allow themselves to recoup any additional draft picks.
So maybe it just didn't work out in that sense.
(01:53:04):
But if we're talking about facts and knowing that a
team desperately wanted to upgrade in a position, and it's
still a position that we question today, it's not It's
not my biggest question mark for this roster. We talked
about that yesterday, But it is a legit question mark.
If you went into the offseason wanting to upgrade the
(01:53:26):
position of safety and you haven't done it yet, and
you still have thirty two million dollars available, why haven't
they done it? Why why not add a Justin Simmons
to everyone I talk to, seems to bring up why
not add some type of veteran piece in the secondary?
(01:53:51):
If it was that big of a of a want
and they still haven't gotten it done, then why not
make a move?
Speaker 6 (01:54:02):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
You would agree, and I think we've talked about this safety.
Safety is on the list now where you have them
on the list of concerns. That's going to vary, but
I think safety would be one of the top three
positions that most people have that they're concerned about going
into this season. If that's the case in your opinion, Austin,
(01:54:23):
why wasn't anything done at safety? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:54:27):
I think the biggest issue is they feel like they
I think most people would say the depth is the
big issue. Like willing to give Gino Stone and Jordan
Battle a chance in Al Golden's defense.
Speaker 2 (01:54:39):
But is that a successful way to approach a season?
To say We're gonna give these guys a chance to
see what they can do.
Speaker 3 (01:54:47):
But depth is not there, right Tyson Anderson, Dejon Anthony,
not guys that you feel really comfortable with. You do
have your break glass in case of emergency in dax
Hill on the Ross. And so again the Bengals have
kind of told you over and over and over again.
They're blaming everything on lou Ana Arumo. They are investing
(01:55:09):
heavily in Al Golden to fix what was already there.
They thought the roster last year should have performed better,
and they blame lou for that. So this is another
move that is indicative of that or not making this
move is indicative of that that Al Golden can get
the best out of Genostone and Jordan Battle Now, I mean,
(01:55:34):
I don't even know who all is still available. Justin Simmons,
so as of today is the most noteworthy one as
of today. The other issue one is justin Simmons. Just
one second, hold on to get to the other issue
about why they didn't. I think they've kind of reached
their self imposed spending limit. They never really spend all
the way up like they have a certain amount that
(01:55:54):
they'll spend too, and I think they're trying to figure
out what's going to happen with Trey. They still haven't
fixedured it out with Shamar. Those two things come into
effect and they're basically at where they normally are spinning
up to the cap. I don't think they feel like
they have that much more room as of today this
I'm following this from USA today. Justin Simmons is the
(01:56:16):
third ranked remaining free agent and Julian Blackman is the
fourth ranked remaining free agent in the NFL. Blackman is
coming off back to back seasons with at least three
picks and eighty five tackles and last year had a
coverage grade of seventy three and a half that was
fifteenth among safeties. Justin Simmons is a four time second
team All Pro and has compiled at least sixty tackles
(01:56:39):
and two interceptions in each of the past eight seasons.
If it is about the spending limit, then that's fine,
But at this point in the game, I feel like
you could make a very fair offer for a one
year deal with either Justin Simmons or Julian Blackman to
at least provide yourself one some depth or two some
type of camp battle at the safety position from players
(01:57:02):
that have done it. Not players you're banking on to
have good seasons or I hope Geno Stone has a
bounce back year, or I hope this player can fill
into the role, but guys that have done it for
a longer period of time in the National Football League.
If what Jeremy said is true, and if for a
fact they wanted to add that there are still players
out there, you could add whether they do it or
(01:57:23):
not at this between now and July twenty third is
a different story. But it's not like, well, you look
at the market, there's just no one there. There are
a couple of high level players still available for what
it's worth. On that same list, Amari Cooper and Keenan
Allen are number one and two on that list, both
wide receivers of Sante Samuel Junior. Corner is still out
(01:57:45):
there because you're white, Zadarius Smith, Stefan Gilmour, Jadavion Clowney
all players still available from an NFL free agency standpoint.
Let's take one more break, come back real quick. A
conversation on a list that CBS Sports throughout today, and
an update on our poll question before we get to
(01:58:05):
moech Next on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, a
service of Penn Station is.
Speaker 2 (01:58:12):
Gritty, ESPN fifteen thirty. Welcome back since E three to sixty,
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of our
friends at Penn Station, Real Quick, Austin. I don't want
to get into the whole top ten, but CBS Sports
(01:58:34):
went through a list of of their top ten players
entering the twenty twenty five twenty twenty six NFL season,
and I just saw this because I saw T. J.
Huschman Zada commenting on it, who was very unhappy with
Joe Burrows ranking on this list. So, for what it's worth,
CBS Sports list Mahomes one, Miles Garrett two, Saquon Barkley three,
(01:58:56):
Josh Allen for Justin Jefferson five, Lamar Jackson six, Joe
Burrow seven, and Jamar Chase eight. And the reasoning from
some of the folks with CBS Sports was that Joe
Burrow missed the playoffs the last two years and hasn't
won the Super Bowl. Has Miles Garrett won a Super Bowl?
Speaker 13 (01:59:17):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
Has Josh Allen won the Super Bowl? No? Justin Jefferson,
Lamar Jackson, No, I am. I think Joe Burrow is
a top three in my honest opinion, I think he's
a top three player in the NFL. I think seven
is egregiously low from a ranking standpoint, And again maybe
(01:59:44):
not the press clippings anything like that, but just sheer numbers.
If you were to watch and study the film, I
don't know how you could walk away with him not
a top three player in the NFL. And to use
the or the playoffs or super Bowl that eliminates half
this list as well. Miles Garrett wouldn't be on that list.
(02:00:06):
Josh Allen wouldn't be on that list. Justin Jefferson. Now,
I get Allen because he won an MVP, and I
get Lamar Jackson with the MVPs. Whose list was this?
US are CBS Sports, CBS Sports. But I just saw TJ.
Hoschman Zada coming to the eight of Joe Burrow and
the Bengals, so I wanted to I wanted to comment
on it as well. Uh, what about our poll question today?
(02:00:27):
Do we have a poll question update?
Speaker 3 (02:00:28):
Our Revive Fitnesssystems dot Com poll question presented by Revivefitnessystems
dot Com and coach PJ.
Speaker 2 (02:00:34):
Street.
Speaker 3 (02:00:35):
Which player is more meaningful to their team? Trey Henderson,
TJ Watt, Max Crosby or Miles Garrett. Miles Garrett forty
three point six percent final results twenty six percent say
Trey Hendrickson nineteen TJ. Watt in eleven point three percent
say Max Crosby. To those who didn't vote Max Crosby,
(02:00:56):
how many other Raiders can you name? That would be
my question? Yeah, Gino Smith, brock Bowers because he's from here.
Michael Mayer, Yeah, how many others? They lost three of
their better pieces on defense? Max Crosby is the face
(02:01:17):
of that franchise. I said earlier I would put Trey
then Max. I think I would change my answer. I
think Max one than Trey.
Speaker 2 (02:01:25):
I mean Max from a star standpoint, there's no one
else on that team Trey, obviously, there's Joe and Jamar
and t. I still I lead with TJ. Watt because
that defense now with t J Watt verse without TJ
Watt would be a whole different animal, whole different animal.
Speaker 3 (02:01:43):
I don't think they missed that big of a step
without him, really, I mean they were still pretty good
last year, and he has I A even on the field,
but m I A for a good amount of the snaps.
Speaker 2 (02:01:54):
Yeah, that's fair. Let's take a break, let's come back,
and let's turn it over to Mowegar. He'll join us
for quick hits and then let you know everything he's
got coming up on the moweger Show That happens next

From the schmid Heating temp Star Weather three sixty continues
on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station. It's time for
since the three sixty quick hits on ESPN.
Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
Fifteenth looking for most should be here any second. Until then,
I can tell you that the Reds have a game
the night against the Boston Red Sox. They look to
keep their series win streak alive. Brady Singer, songwriter Brady
Singer Night at Fenway Park. That is a seven to
ten game. Richard, give them fits on the mound for
(02:03:40):
the Boston Red Sox, both starting pitchers tonight era's north
of four.
Speaker 3 (02:03:46):
Well, you know, give them over the last three as
an ERA of seven point eighty eight, so it looks
like they have been given Richard fits Man as of late.
Speaker 2 (02:03:57):
Guys giving up a lot of home runs as of late.
Be nice for the Reds to mash some of those. Yeah,
I wouldn't mind hitting a few homers tonight. Did the
Bulls do anything in free agency? No, dude, Hell no.
I thought they gave their center a ton of money.
No guy that barely plays. No, that was a fake post.
NBA free agency is the craziest thing I've ever seen,
because it's guys I've never heard of that are just
(02:04:17):
cashing in on millions of dollars. Yeah, NBA money man
got to be the best way to make the money.
Speaker 13 (02:04:23):
As opposed to the NFL, where just every player is
a household name. Man, are we there yet where the
NFL players start complaining on Twitter that the NBA guys
are getting guaranteed.
Speaker 2 (02:04:32):
That Dennis Shrewder has the best agent available. Sure does.
Guy just continues to cash in forty five more million
dollars he's just agreed to. Nicks have been active. I been, yeah,
bolstering our bench.
Speaker 6 (02:04:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:04:43):
What do you think of the new scheme they're going
to be running? You think the players? Do you think
the additions fit in well to the new stame.
Speaker 13 (02:04:49):
I like the idea of the NBA's first ever coachless team.
Speaker 2 (02:04:54):
I like the idea of it.
Speaker 13 (02:04:55):
You know, let's just let people say it's a player's league,
so let's just let the player figure things out.
Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Is that real that they reached out to Don Staley?
Apparently they did. How would you feel about that?
Speaker 2 (02:05:05):
No problem at all? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:05:06):
What about Phil Jackson tires on whom major issues? I'd
rather have Don Staley?
Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
Okay, Yeah, what do you get on the show today?
Speaker 13 (02:05:14):
So you guys talk with Rob Dibble about the whole
Chase Burns, Yeah, tipping pitches thing. One of the Nasty Boys,
Sam Leckuer is going to join us on the exact
same topic. We're going to talk about tipping pitches, Chase Burns,
Andrew Abbott and what it was like to pitch to
my guy, Tucker Barnhardt who's retiring.
Speaker 2 (02:05:30):
Wow.
Speaker 13 (02:05:31):
Also, maybe you've seen this. This has made the rounds
on social media. Chris Trepasso, who has covered the NFL
for CBS for a long time, has a new newsletter
where he ranks the Bengals number one new news Yeah,
number one in terms of long term success, long term
in the NFL being defined as two years. Chris is
going to join us coming up at three thirty five.
(02:05:53):
Cleveland's getting a dome. Yeah, I'm jealous. Yeah, what a dome.
You're a big dome guy.
Speaker 2 (02:05:57):
I have a big dome day. Really.
Speaker 13 (02:05:59):
I am your TI outdoor football. I'm anti discomfort. I'm
pro comfort. I'm pro getting events. I'm pro knowing that
I'm going to a gain that I'm not going to
suffer some sort of bodily harm because of the elements.
Speaker 2 (02:06:12):
Yes, I'm pro dome fair.
Speaker 13 (02:06:14):
I changed my mind when I went to a game
in a dome in the elements.
Speaker 2 (02:06:19):
So Cleveland's getting a dome.
Speaker 13 (02:06:21):
So I'm going to start the campaign now for twenty
When are we getting the new stadium in twenty thirty
nine or something?
Speaker 3 (02:06:25):
Yeah, dome it up, Football dome, stadium, dome it up.
Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
Would you be okay sharing a dome with hout Bengals?
Speaker 13 (02:06:34):
No, I don't want the baseball stadium to be in
a dome. What if it's here's the deal, there's a
difference between a dome and a retractable roof. Retractable roof.
I'm in for dome and retractable roof.
Speaker 2 (02:06:46):
Different. I have the option of being open or closed
a hall. Boy, you kidding me? Hell yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:06:52):
So I'll expand upon that for multiple segments. And we
have more Reds Marlins tickets to give away Old Dominion
post game concert five point thirty five will give them
away and we'll have a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (02:07:04):
Do you have any any once desires? Yes? Many? For
the How much time do you have for the new
U uniforms to be released? Anything that you just you
desperately want or desperately don't want to see on the
new uniforms.
Speaker 13 (02:07:17):
Just don't make them too busy, Okay. I don't love
a busy uniform. I think you see at times has
had really.
Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
Busy uniforms those ones they have it was like the
lender Center or something.
Speaker 13 (02:07:26):
That was the triangles all over the place. Didn't didn't
love those. I love those.
Speaker 2 (02:07:32):
I just I want something simple. Do you have a favorite?
Speaker 6 (02:07:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:07:35):
My favorite is when they have wore in the past
red jerseys, white pants with a red or a white helmet.
Speaker 2 (02:07:42):
Keep it simple.
Speaker 13 (02:07:43):
Yeah, I like the red and white combination. I think
that is the cleanest. So that's that's my favorite.
Speaker 3 (02:07:47):
I saw someone do a mock up where they kind
of use like the paneling from the basketball jerseys and
they put that on the football uniforms. I thought that
looked pretty cool. If there was like some sort of
streamline where it's like, easily identify identifiable, this is Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 13 (02:08:02):
Yeah, that I think would be cool. I'm looking forward
to seeing what they have.
Speaker 2 (02:08:06):
The BSN deal's done, right, I guess I gets Jordan.
Got any chance we get Jordan football? Yues be fine.
There have been schools that have gone Jordan. By the way,
you know what today is Bobby Bonia Day. It's also
the deadline to get Locks of the Night done for
the season. Oh, that's right, it's over, Johnny, That's right. Okay,
where do we take it now?
Speaker 13 (02:08:25):
I know where I'm taking mine. I don't know about
you boys, but I know where I'm taking mine. So yet,
Locks of the Night today is the I guess the
day is not over for moeger dot sub stack is
that we should be looking out for.
Speaker 2 (02:08:40):
I viewed Locks of the Night as the County and
the Bengals very similar, because you know they had thirty
years to do it and then they got to the table.
Is like we need more time. Well, you feel like
there are folks around here that are probably like, oh,
today was the day. We've barely had any time to sell.
This sponsorship ended in October.
Speaker 13 (02:08:55):
Yeah, right, so I would I would say like, basically,
you've had enough time to get pregnant and birth the
child in the amount of time that we have. Said, look,
somebody bring Locks of the Night back and we set
the deadline for July first, give us plenty of time
to ramp it up before football. Nobody came through, so
Locks of the Night so we might have the Locks
of the Night funeral. Maybe we can put together a
(02:09:16):
best of Locks of the Night so people have something
to remember it by.
Speaker 2 (02:09:19):
There were some good times in it.
Speaker 13 (02:09:21):
There's some great times. Made folks a lot of money
and really appreciate.
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
The opportunity to do it that you came across. Oh yeah,
that went out of their way to thank you that
they were able to do things in their life that
they weren't able to do before the time I got
pulled over.
Speaker 13 (02:09:34):
Yeah, and the officer, I think it was a a
Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy pulled me over, Yes, going a
little bit fast and saw my driver's license and said,
I've got to say I'm sorry. We're just gonna let
you go with the warning because you have made me
so much money.
Speaker 2 (02:09:49):
The amount of people that would come up to you
at Twin Peaks on Mondays.
Speaker 13 (02:09:52):
The Target cashier when I was with my daughter and
I'm just buying some stuff because you knew could buy
everything at Target. And the gentleman said to me, like,
you know what employee discount for you because of the
money I made for him on we made for him
on Locks of the Night. Maybe you know what, we
can get together and take phone calls from people sharing
their their fondest Locks of the Night memories. Since the
(02:10:13):
segment is officially over.
Speaker 2 (02:10:14):
The amount of people we reached will never be able
to be calculated well.
Speaker 13 (02:10:18):
And the amount of people that have shown like genuine gratitude,
that's I think that's what I've missed the most and
I'm gonna miss the most moving forward. Is the impact
you've made on people's lives, the impact you've made on
people's bank accounts. And it's over, and it's it's sad,
and you know, I wish this wasn't the outcome, but
(02:10:38):
you know, here we are.
Speaker 2 (02:10:39):
Ye take it upon ourselves blipping the radar last night
or anything more worrisome with Chase Burns.
Speaker 13 (02:10:47):
Terry Francona I think said it right after the game
Let's see how he does against the Phillies. So ask
me after that start, because you want to say, look,
growing pains.
Speaker 2 (02:10:57):
Everyone was so quick to just put them on the
top of the mount. Yeah, and then you're just quickly
reminded of how hard it is. A year ago, he
was not He hadn't even been drafted. He didn't know
he was going to pitch. We were still looking for
Locks of the Night sponsor, and he han't been drafted.
Speaker 13 (02:11:11):
We were still doing Locks of the Night. Yeah, and
that's how you know.
Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
But I.
Speaker 13 (02:11:19):
He's probably not arrived yet. All he's being done. I'm
being clumsy here. I think it was Charlie Goldsmith who
used the term break the glass. They breaking the glass.
This was an emergency, so this wasn't their plan moving forward.
Speaker 2 (02:11:32):
So it's.
Speaker 13 (02:11:34):
Your expectations in mind were certainly limited, not low, but limited.
He's going to get his brains beaten in it happens.
You hopefully see signs while he's getting his brains beaten
in that he is going to be as good as
everybody suggests. So I want to see how he does
in his next start against the Phillies. He certainly seems
to me to have the sort of metal makeup that
(02:11:55):
he is going to be okay and not let last
night totally torpedo him. But you know, let's say he
gets roughed up again.
Speaker 2 (02:12:04):
Yeah, well, which against the Phillies. That right, it's a possibility.
That's a good offense.
Speaker 13 (02:12:07):
And then you know, okay, Hunter Green's starting to ram
things up a little bit. But let's let's say the
starting pitching depth gets tested again and Chase Burns isn't
really the guy. Like we keep talking about what the
Reds need at the deadline, they need all sorts of
offensive help. They need help at first base, they need
help in the outfield. If marteg comes back and struggles,
maybe they need help at third base. You could always
(02:12:29):
use a bullpen arm. Are we sure they can't use
some starting pitching help. Yeah, that to me is the
big Chase Burns is probably gonna be awesome down the road,
but they need a guy who could take the ball.
Let's see, what roughly seventy five more games?
Speaker 2 (02:12:42):
What is that?
Speaker 13 (02:12:42):
Fifteen more starts? Can Chase Burns make most of those
fifteen starts? And can you win most of those games?
Speaker 2 (02:12:50):
Fascinating going forward? Moegar is next on The Moeger Show
on ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station Austin. Maybe
just a moment of silence here for Locks of the night.
As we head out, have a great rest of your two.
Use taps, you play taps for it. Do it again
tomorrow on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
