Speaker 2 (00:20):
Good afternoon, Welcome in, Happy Tuesday.

via the iHeartRadio app, however you find the show. We
certainly appreciate you listening, and if you're using the iHeartRadio app,
go ahead and hit that microphone. Leave us a talkback, Austin.
We just got done meeting with the fine folks from
Cinci Shirts. Literally just got done, just got done seconds ago,
(00:45):
and they have so many amazing things on the horizon.
So you want to be the one that cashes in
on the Sinci Shirts gift card at the end of
the week. You want to be the winner of that
gift card. The only way to do that is to
leave the best talk back of the week. We're giving
away a Sinci Shirts gift card each and every Friday,
so so get your talk back in. We'll get to
those talkbacks as we always do in our number two.
(01:05):
Also in our number two, Joe Danoman from Fox nineteen
will join us, get us up to speed on everything
going on with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds
as it pertains to the Bengals. It's obviously a little
bit of a different day to day. We don't have
Bengals training camp reports. Well, we do have the reports
in the afternoon. We don't have our training camp coverage
going on because they didn't practice today, so there was
(01:27):
no Tony and Moe training camp show. Back to normal
from a Sincy three to sixty standpoint today and excited
to have you along. That's our two. Your phone calls
are welcome. At five, one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
We got to talk about the Reds. They fall to
the Dodgers five two, last night trade deadline inching closer.
We'll look ahead today's game and everything else from last
(01:49):
night's Red's loss to the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
We'll talk Bengals. We've got to talk offensive line. Let's
talk about the players. Maybe we're not talking about and
why to this point and Albert Breer had some awesome
takeaways from his time around Bengals training camp that.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
We'll get to as well.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
We'll go around the rest of the league since it's
an off day for the Bengals, that some of the
major storylines happening in the National Football League at different
training camps, and so much more between now and then. Austin,
did you have a chance last night to catch up
on Happy Gilmore? No, all right, it's good to leave
that there. Try to think what did I do last Sure?
(02:28):
I came home, yep.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
I immediately made dinner because I was starving, right, And
then I did a bunch of dishes and took a shower.
And then by that time, the Reds were already on. Yeah,
so I planted on the couch for a little while,
tried not to fall asleep, recorded an episode of my podcast,
(02:52):
did all that, and then went I went to sleep
at around nine pm. Yeah. Got some good sleep last night. Yeah,
needed it. That's got a busy, busy morning earlier this morning,
it's a it's a.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Life's hard right now time. So is he trying to
catch up on some sleep. We will take you around
the sports world here in segment number one. Some sad
news out of Chicago. Hall of Famer and a beloved
star of the Chicago Cubs, Ryan Sandberg died at the
age of sixty five yesterday. He had been diagnosed with
I believe prostate cancer in twenty twenty four. In August
(03:29):
of twenty twenty four, from the treatments that he was
cancer free. December tenth posted that the cancer had returned
and passed away yesterday again at the age of sixty five,
surrounded by his family in his home. So very sad
news on that front. And sad and scary news Austin
(03:50):
with what happened yesterday in New York City where a
gunman killed four people at a Manhattan office building before
killing himself. Reports now based on I believe a letter
that was left was that the gentleman who opened fire
and eventually took his life as well, was targeting the
headquarters of the NFL, but took the wrong elevator.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yeah, that is just insane. Believe. I believe the guy's
name is Shane Timora. I know he had a.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Back and forth with the NFL from a concussion standpoint
and a CTE standpoint that uh, he did not get.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
I don't even know there's a back and forth. I
think he played football when he was in high school
and and got concussions and blames it on the NFL.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, set a history of mental illness. A rambling note
found on the body suggests he'd aggrievance with the NFL
over a claim that he suffered from uh CTE, which
can only be diagnosed after someone has died. So never
did play in the NFL. He played high school football
in California. He blamed the NFL for whatever reason, but
again took the wrong elevators up and unfortunately took the
(04:56):
lives of four others before taking his own. So a
very sad and scar a moment there in New York.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, and you know, I don't really agree with people
that are out there, Like I think everybody knows where
the NFL headquarters is. That's not hard to find, three
forty five Park Avenue. It's always kind of been out
there and well known. But it's a lot of people
out there saying what floors the NFL are on and
what floor Roger Goodell's office is on. And yeah, that's
(05:23):
a little much. I felt like that's maybe not something
that people should be doing, especially considering you know how
it works. And clearly I know, like the time of day,
it may not have been as many people there, but
still that guy got into the building. Yeah, and if
he had chosen the right set of elevators to take,
probably could have achieved his goal. Yeah, and he still did,
(05:44):
you know, end up indering someone from the NFL, And
looks like that person's gonna be okay. But just crazy,
crazy world that we live in.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Man.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Unfortunately, this is stuff we talk about all all too often, often.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Outside of those events. So if we look at what
happened from the rest of the sports world, FC Cincinnati,
is that League's Cup that gets underway this week?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
League's Cup?
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
League's Cup? Now, can you explain the League's Cup aspect?
We have the Gold Cup, we have Conker CAF, we
have all these different things. What is the League's Cup? Austin,
do you know about.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
The League's Cup? Is a tournament with teams across the
North America? Okay, I think, but it's when you play
like the teams from Mexico. And it's been around for
the last Cup, so just around different leagues, different leagues
(06:36):
gonna play Monterey. It's it's league. It's teams from MLS
in Liga MX, which is the Mexican MLS basically. Yeah,
and they it's like a World Cup style where there's
groups and you play through and yeah, it's just.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Now they play Monterey, who they played last year. Yes,
they lost to Monterey both times last.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I think all together there's forty five or fifty teams
between each league, and they have like group stage, knockout rounds, championship,
the whole nine. And this is a whole match for
the orangin Blue. Yeah, which I guess they'll probably turn
right back around, and that's coming up this week.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
I Uh.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
I think I asked you the question today because we
talked about Bryce Harper and his heated discussion with Rob
Manfred and what resulted from that. Should we be talking
more around baseball about the potential of this lockout that
seems to be a real legitimate possibility coming up in
a couple of years.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah. I don't know really what we could say other
than it's possible. I think most people know that. Yeah,
And you know, I think the players are not afraid
to lose a year. I mean, heck, Bryce Harper said
that to Rob Manford and other players have kind of
taken that as well. I think there's this belief that
major League Baseball has a lack of parody, and that's
(08:00):
smaller market teams and especially family owned teams don't do
what it takes to commit to winning. And I think
players would love for there to be a salary floor.
I think a lot of fans would love for there
to be a salary floor. And I think a lot
of fans believe that if there's a salary cap, then
that would make things more competitive. And I think the
(08:21):
players want a salary floor, but the owners are like, well,
we're not going to do a salary floor if you
don't give us a salary cap, and you know, the
players just don't want to cap.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
What I want to figure out is, if that were
to happen, does that still count as a year in
a contract of a player. Let's say if there's a
lockout in twenty twenty seven and a player goes into
that year with two years left on his deal, would
a lockout year count towards his contract so he would
essentially only have one year left on the deal.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
I would assume not if you're not playing and you
know the contract is not active because there's a lock out.
I would assume the contract resumes at the end of
the lockout. Gotcha, but that I mean that might be
something that's part of the whole agreement in CBA that
they have to negotiate.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Right, something I think to keep an eye on. From
a Major League Baseball standpoint, we talked a lot about
Iohanny Osuarez, and we'll spend some time on Suarez today
as it relates to a trade piece. He was hit
on the hand last night, left the game for the
Arizona Diamondbacks, but he did was revealed that the X
rays were negative, So good news for Suarez as the
(09:34):
trade deadline in Major League Baseball looms closer. The San
Diego Padres did win last night, so their lead in
the wild Card has expanded on the Cincinnati Reds following
their loss. So the Reds are now two back in
the wild Card despite losses by the Cubs and the
Philadelphia Phillies last night. So that's where things stand today.
(09:55):
We'll talk about the Reds game tonight against the Dodgers
as well, but from a Major League Baseball standpoint, that
is what where things are today.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
How about Lucas Brewers, by the way, made a trade
last night. Yeah, acquired Danny Janssen, a catcher from the
Tampa Bay Rays. So it seems like Tampa is going
to sell. They've kind of struggled a little bit. They've
fallen a little bit behind the wild card. The Reds
had scouts at the Yankees Rays series last night in
(10:22):
New York, if I'm not mistaken. So we've heard a
few reports with the Reds, you know, at a few
different locations, a few different series. And I expect I'm
at the point now where I expect them to make
at least two moves in some way, shape or form.
And does that mean going to getting a guy from Tampa?
Does that mean au Haanio Suarez? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
We'll talk about some of those options as we get
into the Reds. Today, I saw a photo of Luka Doncik.
This guy's unlike the cover of now Men's Health magazines.
He has slimmed down. After all the talk about Eli
was his work ethic and his weight in Dallas. Luca
looks like he's ready for an MVP season come up
in basketball.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Did you see though that the Men's Health Interview that
we're all talking about features Ai and Alan. Yeah, like
there's this false claim that Luka Doncic had a forty
two vertical leap, and that's something that Ai always says,
(11:24):
like when you google him, but it's not true. But
the Men's Health magazine had it in there in that article,
so clearly, you know, not quite a little fabrication, a
little bit double you know. You know what I'm saying,
you might have to double check your stuff. We will.
What they did, they did go in and delete it
to their credit.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Talk a little bit today about if we got time.
You see opened up camp yesterday. I believe their twenty
seventh straight year at Camp high Ground in West Harrison, Indiana. Wow,
the big year coming up for the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
What happens at that location when the Bearcats aren't there?
I think they host other different camps. I know they
host some high school teams. I know it's a church
camp as well. Did you know the No, I don't
think so. Oh okay, I know the band goes up there.
Somebody asked me that yesterday and I was like, you know,
I actually don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
No, I don't believe that UC has any ownership and
I just think that they use it each and every year. Okay,
and they've obviously made and helped to make enhancements to it.
They brought the turf and some of the buildings and facilities.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
So yeah, I said, everybody I've ever talked to says
that the food there is unreal.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
It's ridiculous. Yeah, so good WWE. I gotta talk to
our guy Rick Uccino about this. They just released. It
came out today on Netflix. It's called WWE Unreal. It's
behind the scenes of what happens leading into the biggest
shows of the wrestling calendar, where they talk about the
(12:48):
scripting of matches. You see the behind the scenes where
the wrestlers getting ready to fight our friends and having
fun and right after the match. I hate that they're
doing it. I feel like it takes away from a
little bit of the ore of WWE. The unknown. Do
these people really hate each other? What's going on? I
don't like the WWE did that, So I got to
(13:09):
get ric Uccino's thoughts on that as we go. And
then there's this Austin. I saw this floating around and
I've seen it all over social media. The folks at
Reces what are they trying to do to people because
they have come out now with many pumpkins, the pumpkins
that you can buy as Halloween gets closer. It's a
(13:30):
bag of many pumpkins from Races. You and I talked
about this before the show. They're going to ruin a
lot of folks diets. Man, they are sending people down
the wrong path. I don't know what it is about Races,
but they do the trees, and they do the pumpkins,
(13:53):
and they do the Easter eggs, and for whatever reason,
I don't know if it's the chocolate and the peanut
butter ratio or what, it always tastes better when it's
the specialitions. And now they're doing the mini pumpkins. This
just seems to be like a bad idea for a
lot of folks. And they're doing it in bag form.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yep. I've been doing so well with my diet and
I've lost a little bit of weight, and we've talked
about I've started running, but golly, this could throw a
spanner in the works here with these little mini pumpkins.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I have folks around that like when the little Debbie
Christmas trees come out. Yeah, like go to the store,
wait in lines and just buy bulk of the little
Debbie trees.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
I do love those Christmas trees.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
They're so good. Yeah, but people go crazy over them.
And now that Recee's is doing this, I love it
and I hate it at the same time.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
They're just they're so smart in the sense that every
year around whatever holiday, Yep, they'll do this, and they
taste different. Don't know how to explain it. They taste different,
and they just make people go nuts for them.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Now we have to ask, okay, because we just had
the folks at Cincy Shirts were here as I mentioned,
and Josh Need was here. He said he was recently
on the road and stopped at a gas station and
they had the Reces eggs. Yeah, it was June, obviously
(15:22):
Easter was a while ago. Sure, so he said, naturally,
he bought two for one and they were fantastic. Yeah,
So it really doesn't matter. There's no expiration date on
these things. But I would like to know, and I'd
like to figure out why the special edition Reces tastes
better than the normal ones.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
There's a lot of theories out there about it. Some
have to do with gluten, some have to do with salt.
Some have to do with the production. Maybe it's just
the time of the year. Maybe it's you know that
they don't have that little wrapping, that little brown wrapping
paper on it, the regular recess. I think there's so
many different ways to look at it.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
As a listener, share that with us today. What's your like,
what's the guilty pleasure? What's your go to that when
something comes out, whether it be seasonal or not, you're
lining up to get it. I know for a lot
it's the little Debbie Christmas trees. For others it's the reces.
What is your guilty pleasure from a food standpoint that
maybe is not out all year, that when it comes out,
(16:15):
you're making it a point that wherever you're at in
your life, you're you're breaking down and having some I'm
fascinated by that.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Do we have anything else here? I don't think. So
we have a poll question we do that we need
to get to. This is a random poll quest. Okay,
because I don't know if I see this, but this
has happened to me a couple of times now. Revive
Fitnessystems dot Com and coach PJ. Street In case you
have too many of those reeses many pumpkins. You can
(16:45):
go to Coach PJ. He'll get you straight. I was
recently told by someone that I remind them of Mike Turrico. Okay.
They told me I should do a bit where I'm
white tar Rico.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I don't know if that plays, But they said I
remind them of Mike to Rico. Do you agree? Yes
or no? Okay, that's the pole question right now. Eighty
percent says no. One person replied and said, was that
person high on drugs?
Speaker 7 (17:15):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Wow, I don't think so. Not to my knowledge, they weren't.
And I want to say that these people, this person
meant this as a compliment. Sure, and and I took
it as a compliment. I don't know if I agree though,
So I just want to get the you know, if
am I going to do any Mike to Rico like
content any of these bits? Do I remind people of
(17:35):
Mike Rico? How tall are you? Uh? Six to two?
Mike Rico's listed as five to ten. I'm five to eight.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Okay, yeah, all right, so you and Erico are similar
short statue stature?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
All right? Maybe not? You know, Dan Horde's good friends
with Mike Rico. Maybe something happening and could you know,
get us in the same room. We could just go
back and forth a little bit. I liked this. We'll
discuss more of that. Go vote. That's our random fun
poll question of the day. We're gonna have some fuey fun. Okay,
we're gonna try to have more fun. Everyone relax. You know,
(18:13):
we did the whole thing about the movies yesterday and
it kind of reminded me. We can have fun. We
don't have to talk about contract disputes all the time. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
The crazy thing is when you have three hours oddly enough,
you have time to mix some stuff in.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Which, by the way, we didn't get into it much yesterday.
But the continuing details coming out about Trey Henderson and
the Bengals that they're six to ten million dollars apart. Yeah,
if that's true, what's the over under on when that
deal gets done. Let's put it at August first, Let's
put it at August fifth. Let's go a week from now. Okay,
(18:52):
is it done a week from now? If the they're
squabbling over six to ten million dollars in guarantee.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
I haven't had a chance to listen and to it yet.
But friend of the show, Jeremy Faller was at Bengals
training camp yesterday.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Now, obviously the kid the practice got moved indoors, but
he about forty five minutes ago tweeted out a video
with the folks on get up on the latest on
the Trey Hendrickson standoff and what's next for Cincinnati if
he stays away. Now, this is about five minutes of audio,
so at at some point, maybe when we get back,
(19:28):
we'll get to this and we'll react to that as
it pertains to what's going on with Trey Hendrickson. This
from Jeremy Faller, who I take this more for the
value it is because he was just there yesterday, so
he's going to be as plugged into this situation as possible.
So we'll get to that audio when we get back.
We'll start things off with the Cincinnati Bengals. We'll take
phone calls as we go. I did just get a
(19:49):
written submission. Austin. People said that people they go nuts
when the McRib comes back from McDonald's.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Well that's valid. The McRib yeah is one of those
no no, But I'm not a big rib guy unless
I'm at a rib establishment. I'll tell you what. A
McRib with onion and some sprite. Yeah, sounds like the
worst at the right time. I mean, that'll that'll make
(20:19):
you forget all your problems in a good place. Yeah, well,
you just kind of sometimes you got to turn the
lights down a little bit low for that. Get it
locked the door, I'll get it. Just let's just go
after your McRib.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
When we get back. Let's hear what Jeremy Fowler has
to say. What about the snack wrap? Have you tried
that yet?
Speaker 4 (20:37):
No?
Speaker 2 (20:38):
You probably hate that too. Probably?
Speaker 8 (20:40):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
The latest on the Trey Hendrickson situation from Jeremy Fowler,
who was at practice yesterday. And will we react to
that when we get back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports station.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
It's since he three sixty. Hey Google, you got promoted.
Speaker 8 (20:53):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Tony Pike here with my friends at a Pola Home.

And it has always choose local. Choose apollow Home.
Speaker 9 (21:51):
One and do again to a LESDS, Gregory Soto will
deal and DZ lines it in a left field. Here
Comesmos to play. I don't ah I glaciers rounding third.
Here's the throat of the plate, no shot and the
padres walk it off. Olius DS took tiling ceasee off
the hook in the fit with an RBI single and
(22:14):
now he takes Sores off the hook in the ninth
as the Pods walk it off on a wild night
against the Mets and win it seven to six.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Well, there you have that.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
That was the call last night, a walk off win.
Mets are good for nothing. Let the Mets win streak
coming to an end as well. Yeah, Mets and Reds
both win streaks snapped last night. I think the Padres
have the longest winning streak in baseball right now. That's
too bad, which is insane. I need them to go
through a little bit of a slump if you can.
(22:49):
Are they gonna trade for somebody? Are you gonna be active?
Speaker 2 (22:52):
I don't know. They spend a lot of money. Yeah,
they'll probably just ride it out. They'll probably still do
so he'll probably be aggressive. Do we have this, Jeremy Fowler?
I don't. I didn't have time to. I didn't know
that was a thing. Uh, it's right on, it's right on.
I know, I see here. It's it's six minutes long, though,
So I don't know if you had a I didn't
(23:12):
know this was happening. So, oh, well, maybe you just
didn't listen. At the end of the No, I heard
you say it, but I didn't know what me to play.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
We will since we're a little late in segment one,
we'll do it when we come back from from this segment.
Shall we take a call or two?
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Here? We could?
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Let's do that, okay, blind phone calls? Sure at twelve
twenty eight on cinty three sixty. All right, where are
we going to?
Speaker 2 (23:31):
First?
Speaker 10 (23:31):
Two?
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Four or six? Let's go four, let's all right in
the middle. Hello caller.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
Hey guys, it's Jeff.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
What's up? Jess up?
Speaker 8 (23:40):
Jeff?
Speaker 11 (23:42):
Happy Tuesday, gents. I don't like this blind calling thing,
but that's okay.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
You know, I don't like anything.
Speaker 11 (23:51):
Back in the day, I would have been calling you
a long distance. I would have been charged for it. Austin,
have you seen the videos of how that McRib is made?
Speaker 2 (24:00):
I don't. I'm not interested. I like the way it tastes.
I don't want to know how it's made.
Speaker 11 (24:05):
I get it. I get it. I'm with you one
hundred percent on that. You guys, there's there's not really snackh.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
Wah wah at home.
Speaker 11 (24:11):
The snack rats at wah wah are really good, better
than McDonalds.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
They're building a wahwah station on the exit that I
used to get home. I didn't know if I was
supposed to be excited about that.
Speaker 11 (24:22):
I'm telling you, Tony, woah wah is money. They're everywhere
up here on the East Coast. They're really really good.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Okay, I like that.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
Yeah, you'll enjoy it.
Speaker 11 (24:30):
So I guess my one guilty pleasure once a year
is probably Girl Scout cookies, I'd say, And much like Recei's,
I get thin mints and throw them in the freezer
next to the recent cups, and then I find them
in June and it's like, hey, look at this.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Look what I just found.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
You know, somebody here put some thin mints in the
freezer a couple of months ago. Actually yeah, it's been
at least two months, and they hadn't been touched, hadn't
been opened, and so I, you know, waited about two months,
and then finally I was like, these aren't mine, but
I'm going to crack them open and I ate some
(25:07):
of somebody else's ten min's out of the freezer. I've
never had him out of the freezer before. They were incredible.
Speaker 11 (25:13):
Well, and the problem with Girl Scalf cookies now is
they made him so small. If you open the sleeve.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
The sleeve is gone and did some damage on that sleeve.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (25:22):
Absolutely, and uh quickly on Bryce Harper, can we get
the head of the umpire's union to go into Phillies
dug out and let Harper talk.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Philm Maybe.
Speaker 11 (25:33):
I would love Bryce Harper to have a bat in
his hand against the head of the umpire's union instead
of the Commissioner of Baseball. I think you know Wan
Soto got tossed on a ridiculous call. There's a video
going around. I think it might have been in the
Orioles game.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
There's a pitch.
Speaker 11 (25:49):
I think the one commenter said you could put that
ball on a tee in the middle of the plate,
and the umpire called it a ball. And you know, Austin,
I think your comment was abs can't get here soon enough.
I thank everybody to a hunt last night was just criminal.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Yeah, and watching it in action at the All Star Game,
it just seemed too easy. It's not like it's something
that drags out. It takes a few seconds and then you.
Speaker 11 (26:09):
Know, right, and you know, there's one hundred and sixty
two games in baseball. You hope it evens out over
the course of a season. But where's the accountability and
who's calling these guys? I would love a manager instead
of getting thrown out of a game, just walk out
and say, look, I'll meet you in the tunnel after
the game and let's sit down and watch these on
(26:30):
TV and let's see what we think about it.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Yeah, I agree, but.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
We'll have to wait and see.
Speaker 11 (26:37):
So Tony, love.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Your reports from the field.
Speaker 11 (26:39):
They sound great, and hopefully maybe see somebody at the
Grail on Saturday night with mister Raupena, mister list go
in town as well.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Love it, Jeff, Thank you, man, appreciate the call. Have
a good day, boy, Yes, sir, more phone.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Calls to come as we get into the show today.

to say as it relates to the Cincinnati Bengal and
the Trey Hendrickson situation. Next on the Home of the
Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

you want, Like, who's the go to guy?

Gonna be the interviews, his views and your calls.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Go to guy isn't the team's leading school, Lowegger today

The Superior Game meets Superiors PN fifteen thirty. Welcome back
since he three to sixteen.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
You are listening on the Home of the Bengals ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. I want to get to
this audio clip. It's a little over five minutes long.
But the folks on Get Up on ESPN earlier today,
we're discussing the latest around Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Now this is prevalent because Jeremy Fowler was just at
Bengals practice yesterday, so he is up to the lake
(29:00):
right now and everything going on around Trey Hendrickson. But
this conversation revolves around Jeremy Fowler. Mike Tannebaum, Ryan Clark,
and Jeff Darlington all on Get Up earlier today talking
about the Trey Hendrickson situation with the Cincinnati Bengals. Here's
about five minutes of what they had to say.
Speaker 13 (29:17):
Good morning, Greeny. I actually just got off the phone
on this. And here's where things stand. Trey Henderson remains
in Florida. They are at an impass. He wants a
multi year deal, but he also wants guaranteed money. With
that structure, the Bengals are comfortable with a lot of that.
In fact, they have some of this deal essentially done.
The Bengals are not willing to meet the player at
the guaranteed money.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
And we're here because.
Speaker 13 (29:37):
He's got thirty five sacks in two years. He feels
like he should get similar treatment to a Joe Burrow,
to a Jamar Chase star players in Cincinnati that have
got good guaranteed structures. Now, the Bengals can argue those
players are younger in their prime where Hendrickson is on
his third contract. So these are the issues that they're
trying to sort out their remaining in contract. But right
now there is no heavy momentum to get over that
(29:59):
last hurdle to get him in Cincinnati.
Speaker 14 (30:01):
And it starts to get late early here. As I
bring the crew in, Jeremy stay close with us, Mike
ta as a general manager, and I know you're following
the ins and outs of this, like it doesn't feel
like this one is close.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (30:12):
Great, Look, we talked a lot about Michael Parsons and
that's going to get done. It'll be the highest non
paid quarterback with this. However, every day it seems like
we're getting further away.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
And here's why.
Speaker 15 (30:22):
Once we got into Miles Garrett, TJ. Watt forty forty
one million dollars a year, again, Trey Hendrickson has outproduced them.
Hard to think that Cincinnati is going to pay that
for Trey Hendrickson. We have to go back to Jalen
Ramsey and the Jaguars from several years ago where Jalen
Ramsey reported which is the way you do things under
the new CBA, and he had a hold in he
(30:44):
did in practice, eventually got traded to the Rams and
he got paid. My sense, in talking to a lot
of people, this seems like, although not likely, certainly heading
towards that direction much the way Jeremy just talked about.
Seems like there's just not a good landing spot for
this deal.
Speaker 14 (30:59):
At this moment and he's holding out, not holding in now.
Speaker 15 (31:03):
And the reason you do he should come in at
some point because it's fifty thousand.
Speaker 14 (31:06):
Dollars and he find a ton of money every single day.
It doesn't do you any good to be out. You're
better off being in. Although it might be uncomfortable, Far
be it for me to be telling these guys what
to do. I'm old enough to remember in this same
organization when Carson Palmer retired and stayed that way until
they eventually traded him to the Raiders RC. So I
asked you a moment ago, how much impact will all
of this Micah Parson stuff have on the Cowboys? And
(31:28):
you said it'll get done and it'll have no impact.
This doesn't feel the same. What impact does this have
on the Bengals season?
Speaker 16 (31:37):
This is going to be a huge impact on the
Bengals season. Trey Hendrickson is a top tier defensive end
in this league. He plays the run extremely well. We've
seen him get after the quarterback to the two and
of thirty five sacks in the last two seasons, seventeen
and a half in each, and he was truly one
of the lone right spots on the Cincinnati Bengals defense
last year. And now when you go back to Jalen Ramsey,
(32:00):
Mike teth forgets Jalen Ramsey had a back injury that
the humidity was affecting, and so he needed the.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
Head or to be healthy enough to play.
Speaker 16 (32:11):
Maybe Skyline Chile is affecting Trey Hendrickson's amstring and he's
gonna need the beautiful scenery somewhere else in order to play.
But Trey Hendrickson has to think about where he is
in his career and what's vital and what's important. And
the Cincinnati being goes Bengals. No, if they don't have
Trey Hendrickson on this field, they're going to be in
a world of trouble. And to me, all of that
(32:32):
money that you paid Key Higgins and you paid Jamar
Chase this off season will be for not because you
won't be able to get enough stops to get Joe Burrow,
a top three quarterback in this league, back into the playoffs.
Speaker 17 (32:44):
My only pushback on that is that they were so
bad with Trey Hendrickson. That's not to dismiss with his
I don't know how they're gonna be like any worse
than they already were, And that's what's so problematic for
this team. They moved on from lou Anaruma, their defensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
As if that was the problem.
Speaker 17 (33:00):
You can't convince me adopted his previous success. So to me,
this is a mess that is compounded by Trey Henderson,
but honestly doesn't start with Treanderdson. This mess is way
more problematic than that.
Speaker 15 (33:12):
But if you follow the logic, they got to get
this deal done. If we go back a couple of
weeks ago, some people thought, hey, maybe could they trade TJ.
Watt and Pittsburgh And I said, absolutely, no way. When
you go out and get Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf,
you're going to keep the most indispensable player in TJ.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Watt.
Speaker 15 (33:27):
Same thing here, guys, They actually infered US have had
a good offseason. They re signed two great stars in
their primes and you know T. Higgins and Jamar Chase.
To me, it's so illogical not to finish the deal
where you have a real chance to win with Hendrickson.
Speaker 14 (33:41):
I continue to put into perspective for anyone who doesn't remember,
because time takes forever these days. Joe Burrow had the
best season of any quarterback in the NFL last year,
and he had that team in playoff contention going to
the final Sunday of the year. Despite the fact that
they will buy a wide margin. The worst defense. Jeremy
fol put a final word on it.
Speaker 13 (34:03):
Yeah, Greenny. I was a Bengals camp yesterday. I watched
Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase T Higgins move all around the formation.
They have receivers they can't even get the ball to
because of those two guys. They literally just need an
average defense this year to be able to put up
ten or more wins right now, it's going to be
very tough to get that. The Bengals are counting on
over the next six weeks. Hey, we've got time.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Hendrickson will come in.
Speaker 13 (34:24):
Even if we don't get a deal done, we'll figure
something out. But that is a huge gamble for a
player that I continue to here is very dug in
and quite comfortable staying in Florida for the short term, and.
Speaker 14 (34:34):
A very important piece not only from the outside in anyway,
not only of what they do on the field, but
a piece of that of that organization and such a beloved.
Speaker 17 (34:43):
Can you imagine how good the Bengals offense looks against
the Bengals defense?
Speaker 3 (34:51):
All right, So one, the defense has won a couple
of days, So let's start there.
Speaker 18 (34:55):
Two.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
I don't know what Ryan Clark was watching. When you
talk about Trey henchikin against the run abnormal for Ryan,
that's a little bit different. But the Tannemam side, I
understand the logic of spending the money you spent on
t Higgins and Jamar Chase to go all in. It
seems illogical not to get this done with Trey Hendrickson.
That I understand. I get Jeff Darlington's side of things,
(35:18):
where you're saying, well, they they were bad last year
and they had Trey Hendrickson, and not all of that
can be put on lou An Arumo. But from the
side of where things stand with Hendrickson, we saw it
was yesterday that the sides are maybe six to ten
million dollars apart, and some of this deal could already
be done. The sticking point could be the guarantees into
year three. We heard Trey Henderson's camp want to go
(35:39):
into year or guarantees into year two. Heard Hendrickson's camp
wants to get into year three. But anything from Ryan
Clark or Fowler or Darlington or Tannabam from get up
earlier that that is surprising to you in this situation. No,
I mean, I think that's everyone.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
The stuff that we already knew. I think kind of
towards the end where Fowler was like, he's still very
dug in and he's happy with not showing up good
in Florida, good in Florida. So you know that to
me tells it just reinforces the idea that it's not
going to get done anytimes.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
I just don't think there's anything new from it that's
going to happen. We know why Hendrickson's now dug in.
We've talked about why the Bengals are dug in where
they're at. It just it feels the quicker, this gets done,
the quicker. It's just all about football. But even being
down there for the time we have, there's not been
a lot of conversation around the media or watching practice.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
About Trey Hendrickson. Yeah, that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
It's like last year with Jamar Chase, it was every
single day and you had these conversations and you were, Okay,
what's next, what's going on. You don't hear that on
a day to day basis about Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
So in that sense, maybe Trey did achieve his desired
goal of not being a distraction, and like I said,
you're out of out of sight, out of mind, and
you can only focus on the guys that are there
and that want to be there and are trying to
practice and get better. And it's not a bad thing
for the Bengals that Trey's not there, because I think
most people think if Trey shows up the week before
they play the Browns, he'll be fine. He can be productive,
(37:15):
he can fall out of bed and rush the passer.
He's that good. But right now, if I get more
revs for Schamar and Murphy and Osai and Sample and
Johnson and whoever, and I'm not forcing those guys to
answer a bunch of questions about Trey Hendrickson every day,
or you know, I don't know. I guess I don't
(37:35):
know how much Tray could really help while he's there.
Maybe he could. Maybe he wants to be that leader.
You can't be a leader or not show up.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
So that's where I'm at. So from a distraction standpoint, yeah,
I think it helps. From a on the field standpoint,
I think if Trey were there and not practicing, but
when guys come off the field, he could talk to
Shamar Stewart or Joseph Osio Miles Murphy.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Sure.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
I think there's a legitimate value in that for the players,
and I think there's a value in that for Al
Golden as well.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
I don't know that the guys or I don't know
that the people in the organization miss Tray all that much,
you know.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
What I mean.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
No, I think that's fair. It's like, oh, I think
that's accurate. Well, Trey will be here when he gets here. Yeah.
In the meantimes.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
The thing too, it doesn't feel like he's not It's
just he's not going to be there yet.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
I think last year it was you were worried. It's like, oh, man,
if if Jamar is not happy and this could go
south and this could really derail the entire franchise. But
with Trey, it's like, huh yeah a lot, And I
think that speaks volumes about the entire situation Captain Trey.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
We'll talk more about the Bengals as we go. Albert
Brier had some observations from Bengals training camp. We need
to discuss some offensive line. Is what could change their mind?
You know, because it got to the end of last
week and all of a sudden, Chamar's camp in the
Bengals camp want to work together. What would change between
now and the end of this week that make the
(38:59):
Bengal want to start working together? Well, yesterday was the
first padded practice. I think as you get into more
padded practices, you can evaluate more about the offensive defensive line,
and I think you can evaluate more of what you have,
if and who you have and are they going to
take a step now under Al Golden If so, it
takes away a little bit of the pressure of needing
Trey hendrickson there. If these guys are struggling and you
(39:21):
just don't see the progression, then it becomes a little
bit more dire that you make sure Trey Hendricks in.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
That camp exactly.
Speaker 10 (39:27):
Now.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
I know the Bengals offensive line is far from being
a good offensive line, but if you continue to see
for a week ten days of Chamar and Joseph and
Miles everybody getting at the quarterback and being productive, but
then maybe it right allows the Bengals to kind of
ease off a little bit and say, listen, man, this
is the best offer we're going to give you.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
But you do also miss out on reps for an
offensive line that needs to be better to get to
go against Trey hendrickson absolutely of it as well, so
it's going to be a constant back and forth. We'll
spend time with Joe Daneman on that as well. We'll
grab a phone call or so when we get back
to finish up our number one next on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of our good friends
(40:08):

our guy Mason. Let's see who we got for c
the letter c today from Maso. What do we got?
Speaker 5 (41:33):
What's going on? Guys?
Speaker 2 (41:34):
What's up? Mason?
Speaker 18 (41:35):
We get?
Speaker 8 (41:36):
Before we get started, want to give a shy shout
out to Mike in La who is currently Mike in Cincinnati.
Apparently he was on the DP Show. He had a
great had a great take back in the Beatles. Because
Fritzi is a big Holland Oats guy says Holland Oats
is better than the Beatles. I had to put him
in his place and say that's not that's blasphem. Let's
(42:06):
let's see if he has play in on the seas today.
Have whose career would you rather have? Chris collins Worth
or Chris Carter. Now I'm prefacing this with Chris collins
Worth and his net worth.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
You know, all the money that.
Speaker 8 (42:29):
He's making doing a football Night in America and all
that that goes into effect, and that should be taken
into account because I think we all agree Chris Carter
had better, you know, football career. However, I don't think
he played in the Super Bowl where Chris collins Worth did,
So that's something to put into you know, to take
(42:51):
into account as well. So anyway, what do you what
are you guys thinking that's a good one.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
I mean, Chris Carter obviously a Hall of famer. He's
an Ohio State buck Eye and Bread Ohio legend, hall
of famer. Even after he's dead. Three All pros, which
c c Chris Collinsworth had three All pros as well. Gosh,
but it's hard not to in my current stage of
life look at the checks that Chris collins Worth is
cashing for Sunday Night football and not want that. Yeah, yep, I'm.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Going Chris collins Worth on this one. But this is
probably the hot the the most highly contested.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
I'll take the other side, just for the sake of it.
Buckeye born and bred, now hof or even after I'm dead,
give me Chris Carter from Troy, Ohio. I like that.
Speaker 8 (43:36):
I knew you were going with the buck eys. Gosh,
darn you.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Sickness. That's a sickness. So appreciate you.
Speaker 19 (43:46):
I see you, all right.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
That's a good one. Yeah. I love him both. I
love them both.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
That that, to me is probably the toughest one we've
done to date. What's Nicely going to do when he
gets to like X and the alphabet.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Xavier Scrugs or Xavier Paul former red. Oh I didn't know,
did uh? Chris Collinsworth won the Walter Payton Man of
the Year Award as well Man Chris Carter.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
I think so okay, he's collins Worth in the Florida
Athletic Hall of Fame. Well that's cool, man. I think
I'm gonna go Chris Carter. I'll go Collinsworth, Danoman, we'll
both agree on that. Let's say, let's start by asking
him that question.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
All right?
Speaker 3 (44:27):
Danaman's next on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks
to Skyline Chile U.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
C k Y Cincinnati, make us the number one pre
set on your car radio and on the free, new
and improved iHeartRadio. Add free never sounded so good, ESPN
fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Most men have no idea.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
This is Cincy Shirts since he three sixty about Cincinnati
from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts,
all Cincy, all day. This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Here we go our number two thanks to Cincy Shirts.
On ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Thank you for
listening on the Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty.
It's our number two. It's a Tuesday afternoon. The Bengals
do not have practice today, but that doesn't mean we
stop covering and talking about the Cincinnati Bengals. And who
better to do it with than our guy from Fox
(45:21):
nineteen himself, the one that doesn't the one that doesn't
wear Hey dudes with socks. We're talking about at least
of joining us right now.
Speaker 5 (45:30):
Hi, Joe, I don't even know what hay dudes are,
but now I do because of what happened to Trading Camp.
By the way, has Mo come through with his happy
Gilmore reviewing?
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Nothing yet.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
He said he didn't get to watch it last night.
He's looking forward to watching it this evening.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
Is he looking forward to it?
Speaker 2 (45:50):
He says he is.
Speaker 5 (45:50):
He looking forward to it now.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
I don't know if he should based on our knowledge
of what Moe was looking forward to watching and what
we know about the movie ourselves.
Speaker 5 (45:59):
If you can save thirty to sixty seconds at the
end of this segment for my official review of Haggie
Gilmour too, I would appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Take as much time as you need.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
Joe, Okay, just just say one minute at the end.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
I got that our guy Maso from the Villa called
in and asked he's been asking questions. He's going through
the alphabet and he's he's asking questions based on players
with the same name. His question Lydia. To finish our
one whose career would you rather have? Chris collins Worth
or Chris Carter now Chris Carter born and bred Hall
(46:35):
of Fame or even after he's dead.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Buckeye born and bred Middletown. Who would you go with?
Speaker 5 (46:43):
Well, it's kind of fun that both are. Chris is
with no age. Yes, so that's that's pretty unique right
there at itself. Chris Carter jumps in mind because he's
got the Hall of Fame bus for eternity. Chris collins
Worth because he's got the greatest gig known demand. You know,
obviously he doesn't work one day a week, but.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
He can't even get into the Bengals Ring of Honor.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
Though yes, he pops on Sunday night football, calls the
biggest game of the week, catches a huge check, and
lives in a great city. So I'm gonna go with
Chris collins Worth.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Okay, fair enough, I love it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
Let's talk about the team that Chris collins Worth played for,
the Cincinnati Bengals. Obviously it's an off day today, Joe,
but you've been able to take in a lot of
training camp. What has been some of the things you
followed that have stood out to you the most through
the first couple of days of camp.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
You know, it's interesting with the defense, and we're going
to do this right, We're going to be skeptical of
the Bengals defense. That, yes, coaching changes matter, and the
Bengals made one. That yes, adding free agents and TJ.
Slayton is an underrated free agent, and adding draft takes
and the Bengals added five on defense, those all help.
(47:55):
But I think we're going to be skeptical if you're
a smart fan of this defense until we see what
it looks like when they start playing games, and maybe
not even really have a really good judge at a
handle on what this defense is when they face whatever
quarterback slop that Cleveland throws out in Week one to
start the season. But I think it would be ignorant
(48:16):
to ignore that it feels different that the younger voices
that have now kind of taken command of this defense,
that the empowerment they've gotten from Al Golden, that there's
a different energy and a different confidence to this group.
What will it result in different results this year? Certainly
they're more talented this year just by adding what they
(48:39):
added in free agency into the draft. And even though
they didn't make the big splash, and I'm sure a
lot of fans wanted them to make. They are more
talented this year. They do have a deeper defense. Is
it going to be enough for them to rise to
the level that they need to go to for this
team not only to get back to the playoffs, but
the back in the position where they can beat playoff teams.
(49:00):
I don't think we're going to know that until the
season starts, but certainly that's to me, has been the
biggest difference so far of training camp. And you go
back to Al Golden's original press conference when when he
was asked about a fast start in him coming in
and being part of that, he said that, you know,
a fast start doesn't start at training camp. A fast
start starts in offseason workouts at OTAs and mandatory mini camp.
(49:23):
And you go back to what the Bengals defensive players
are telling us that it's not the first week of camp,
that it's not practice number one that they've had, you know,
twenty practices already in the bank. That they feel very
confident hitting the ground running here at training camp. So
I think it's unfair to ignore that there's a different
energy about the defense and that some of these young
(49:45):
guys are taking ownership of it, and I think that
should be exciting and paid attention to here at training camp.
But ultimately I want to see what it looks like
against Cleveland, against Jacksonville, against Minnesota, and then Week five
against Detroit when when they start are facing these really
good offenses, to see where they really are. But certainly
that's been the storyline to me through one week.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
To add to that conversation, our guy Charlie Goldsmith tweeted
yesterday that the pass rush is the winner of the
day from yesterday's padded practice, the first padded practice. A
common theme that we've discussed for years of training camp
coverage has been the play of the offensive line, and
there are no shortage of questions around the offensive line
for the Bengals this year. We know Trey Hendrickson's not
(50:28):
in camp, we know Shamar Stewart is just getting back
into the fold. When you see that from Charlie yesterday,
is your immediate thought, Man, that's awesome to hear about
the defense. Does your thought go to the other side
of well, that means the offensive line struggled a little bit,
and we've seen that theme around camp before.
Speaker 5 (50:46):
No, I think that report and what we saw yesterday
is a win for the Bengals in a hole that
they need a disruptive defensive line and there are going
to be day especially early in camp and Tony and
Austin if he went back and played the taste last year,
and I know a different situation because of what Joe
Burrow has been coming back from with seemingly every training
(51:08):
camp in him. Now having this fully healthy training camp
should be a difference maker. But if you go back
and listen to the tape, it's not just five to
seven days of all the offense looks sluggish. It always
gets to the point where like, wait a minute, what's
going on with the offense? Two weeks into training camp,
ten days into training camp, and then you know they're
(51:29):
ready to play. And we could argue that they're not
ready to play at the start of the year, and
that's what's been the bugaboo for the Bengals. But when
it comes to the defensive line being disruptive that they need,
that that's a must, that's an underling stars circled must
for this team to be better in twenty twenty five.
(51:51):
It can't be just one guy rushing the passer for
this team, and we don't even know what that guy's
going when he's gonna be here and what he's going
to look like when he gets here as being ready
to be a difference maker on the football field. But
there are questions about the offensive line that there's no
doubt about it. I still like the two tackles. I
like center. You know it's going to be a competition
(52:14):
for right guard. It feels like Dylan Fairchild is going
to lock down left guard. Who's gonna play right guard.
We're going to find out as training camp continues, as
preseason games happened, But certainly on a day when the
defensive line was disruptive, I think you have to take
that as a win for the Bengals as a whole,
even though that comes with, Yeah, certainly the question marks
(52:37):
about the Bengals offensive line, which you look at whatever
rate ratings and rankings are out there from PSF, I
still believe that those are criminally underrated. For the Bengals
offensive line by no means are that a top five,
top eight offensive line of the NFL. But I don't
think they're one of the two or three worst the
way they got rated by some of the PFF grades
(52:58):
last year.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
On the other side of the ball, I think one
of the better talking, bigger talking points so far has
been the play of Jermaine Burton. And it's one thing
to do it with the twos, but in eleven on
eleven's we've already seen multiple times that Joe Burrow has
found Jermaine Burton on plays. And I know it's a
long way back, and I know you've got to rebuild
the trust and it's a short sample size, but what
(53:21):
have you seen from Jermaine Burton at the start of
this camp that maybe would lead you to believe that
he is a significant player for this offense?
Speaker 5 (53:28):
That he's been a non story And I think that's
the win for the Bengals. And if he keeps stacking
boring days of just doing his work and not being
a story, that's a win for Jermaine Burton and this offense. Now,
what's his role going to be on an offense that
has Jamar Chase and t Higgins solidified as Joe Burrow's
(53:49):
number one and number two targets. There's no reason to
believe that Mike Kasicki wouldn't build on what he did
last year when he had more than sixty catches and
was Joe Burrow's third favorite target. There's no reason to
believe that andre Yoshibots can't continue to be one of
those creative playmakers that Joe goes to and plays break
down or goes to in the red zone as well.
(54:10):
So now you're talking about four levels of guys that
need the football. And certainly Chase Brown has talked openly
throughout training camp that he wants to be show off
his improved ability in the passing game so that the
old idea of mouths to feed and having a lot
of options is great. Jermaine Burton has to keep stacking
(54:31):
daves and be ready as a depth player in case
one of these guys has the miss a game or
two throughout the season. Or is there a role for
him when they if they put four wide receivers out
there and they tell him to go make a play. Now,
when they drafted Jermaine Burton, I had some conversations with
Charlie Goldsmith about his role, and Charlie said that his role,
(54:51):
from what he was told, was to be the kind
of guy who made the play that he made against
Kansas City last season, to be that guy that you
can line up and get a good matchup with with
one of the team's third or fourth defensive backs and
he could win a matchup down the field and make
a play down the field. That's the one thing we
heard about Jermaine Burton coming out of college was that
(55:12):
he can really track the ball down the field, and
we saw that during the preseason. We saw that against
Kansas City, and then the Bengals lost that option as
the year went on because they lost Jermaine Burton in
his reliability within that room. So to me, the story
with Jermaine is he's been a non story and I
think that's great for the Bengals, and I think that's
(55:33):
great for him to keep stacking boring days of doing
his work and then still trying to find a role,
whatever that role is on this team, understanding that it's
a seventeen game season and he'll likely have a chance
to make plays if he continues on the road that
he's been on so far. At training camp.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
It looks like over the past couple of days the
offense has stalled a little bit in the red zone.
What have you seen from that, is that just a
case of maybe the defense is ahead of the offense,
or how do you explain the Bengals kind of struggles
in practice in the red zone.
Speaker 5 (56:07):
Yeah, it's hard to explain it. Certainly yesterday it felt
more disruptive from the defense and especially upfront that blew
some plays up, and that's why the Bengals weren't successful
in the red zone. There have been moments of brilliance
from Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow that have made the
rounds over social media. But why the Bengals aren't cooking
(56:30):
right now in the red zone is a hat tip
to the defense. And Zach Taylor has said as much
a couple of days ago when they had a long
period to end the day and it was the final
period of the day, and he said, the defense won
the lower red zone. And again it goes back to
a defense that you know, if we go back and
play this tape and in October and November and December,
(56:51):
and the defense has been a lot better. We said, oh,
we could have seen designed as early as the first
week of training camp. Now, I think we're all skeptical
enough to know that we're not going to go out
here and call the Bengals the two thousand Ravens of
the eighty five Bears because they won a couple of
periods and training camp. But certainly to your point, they've
(57:11):
been good in the red zone. I give it more
of the hat tip to the defense right now and
aggressives allowed and energetic defense right now that has a
lot of guys, especially the cornerback. Battle has been really
fun to watch and it's gonna be even more fun
when they really start cutting Dax Hill loose some more,
(57:33):
because there are three guys that right now I'm sure
all feel like they're starting level players and CTV Dax
Hill and also DJ Turner and and DJ's been picked
on a little bit so far as training camp. And
then Josh Newton, who is a guy that's gotten a
lot of play so far in the media because of
the way he handles himself and the way he's played.
And then Jordan Battle. Jordan Battle was loud and aggressive
(57:56):
on a pass break up he had with Mike Kasicki
the other day right in front of me. And it's
been fun to watch a defense that has the confidence
in itself to talk a little bit, to be allowed
to be abrasive and to be aggressive. So to answer
your question the idea of why the offense hasn't been
going to the red zone, I think it's a hat
tip to the defense, at least so far a training camp.
Speaker 2 (58:17):
Cody Ford has gotten the first crack at the right
guard spot. It doesn't feel like, even though there's only
been one padded practice that he's really separated himself and
you know, kind of giving Lucas Patrick an uphill battle,
and now Patrick's hurt. What do you make of right
guard and how that could play out now that the
pads are on.
Speaker 5 (58:35):
I certainly feel like it's coming down to Patrick and Ford.
And even though Vulson is in that mix and has
been a starter here, I don't think he's going to
be really a factor when it comes down to Lucas
Patrick and Cody Ford. If both Patrick and Ford are healthy,
what it comes down to, you know, I think we're
(58:56):
gonna have to see what these guys can do in
actual preseason games. And I think that's the real benefit
of what we're going to see in the preseason, because
they can be debated. You know, how much this helps
to Joe Burrow, how much it helps Jamar, Chad and
t Higgins to be more sharp week one or week
to it, and Joe's talked about that. Joe said, the
(59:17):
biggest difference is, you know when you go into training
camp practices and you have a free runner coming at you,
it's that final five yards where you know a guy's
going to pull up and he's not going to hit you,
that you can feel comfortable back there and it kind
of slows down your decision making process. But he said,
when you're in the preseason and that happens, you know,
it speeds you back up and it gets you ready
(59:38):
to play week one. So that's important for him. But
I think that could be the separator for the guard
position is what happens in these preseason games, and I
think that's good for this coaching staff to have real
live game action reps at right guard to see who's
going to separate himself from the other. I still handicap
(01:00:01):
it as they brought Lucas Patrick here for a reason
and I think they would probably want him to be
the starter, But if he can't separate himself from Cody four,
that's I wouldn't say alarming, but it's concerning because I
know a lot of people listening to this probably don't
want that to be the option, but it feels like
(01:00:22):
it's going to be Patrick or Ford, and I think
that's going to be separated during preseason games.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Evan McPherson has yet to miss a kick in training camp.
How significant is that for him? And how significant is
the confidence for Evan McPherson, who obviously struggled multiple times
last year for the Bengals.
Speaker 5 (01:00:39):
You know, it's interesting. I don't know if confidence is
the issue or was the issue with Evan McPherson. And
this can just be posturing from him in our conversations
we've had about this, and understand, I've never seen Evan
look rattled, feel rattled. His confidence shot. It just doesn't
(01:00:59):
seem to fit his personality. He he says this is
this was all physical for him, that that the groin
was such an issue that it was forcing him to
attack his craft differently, and and he's tried to be
different about being ready for this year. And if he's
(01:01:20):
telling the truth that it was it was never a
mental thing, it was all physical. And if it was
all physical and he's back to himself, Look, the Bengals
need that he's a difference maker. He's a weapon and
with me, you look at the years that he's had.
When he's right from fifty plus, you know NFL games,
a lot of these games come down to one play,
(01:01:43):
one stick, one touchdown, one score. And when the Bengals
are going right, he's going right. When he's going right,
the Bengals are hard to beat because of the weapon
he gives them in the final minutes of games. Uh,
they need him to be good. He knows that they
know that, and when he he's right from fifty plus
that the Bengals are a different animal and harder to beat.
(01:02:06):
And he looked great at training camp. He feels great.
And if he's telling the truth that it was physical,
it was to groin and because that wasn't right, he
wasn't right. You have to take him at face value
and from for everything that I've seen being around him
now for several years, it never felt like this is
something that's gotten to him mentally. So the belief is
(01:02:28):
that he's good, that he's healthy, he's doing more to
stay healthy this year. He talked about a pre rehab
and also rehab work before and after practice that he's
doing to try to maintain that health and if he's right,
he's a difference maker for this team. But he's looked
good so far during training camp.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
I would be remiss not to ask, because we started
training camp Joe last week on Wednesday by thanking the
Cincinnati Reads for passing off the baton, because after the
National Series it felt like, all right, well, thanks Reds.
The Bengals are here and we move on. And then
they go and they sweep the Tampa Bay Rays and
I know they lose last night, but you got two
more against the Dodgers. The trade deadline looming, what do
(01:03:11):
you make of the next couple of days. Do you
think that this team gets active? Do you think they
make an addition or two before the deadline comes and goes.
Speaker 5 (01:03:20):
Yeah, I think they'll be active, and I don't think
what happens against the Dodgers should change their mind. I
think that Hay is in the bar, and I think
what the players have said openly and publicly should be
heard by the front office. And even Emilio Pagan told
us on Sunday after the game after the sweep that
(01:03:40):
he said, you know, Nick Crawl hears us. He pumped
about this team and excited about what we can do
the final two months. Mike Stanton the Reds has been
I think they're going to be a player in September.
I thought that for a while. Now I don't think
that's going to change. Games like last night, again, it
felt like they got squeezed a little bit, had some
bad luck here and there. Certainly had a chance in
(01:04:02):
the ninth inning. But what they do against the Dodgers
should absolutely not change the mind of the front office
about making changes that can help this team. And it
doesn't have to be just for this year. It can
be for next year as well. I like where the
regior position, they have a shot literally every single night
(01:04:22):
to win because of their pitching staff. They're desperate for
some pop. I mean it feels desperate at this point.
They aren't hitting home runs. I think they've only got
two home runs in what the last nine games, and
they both came against the major league leader and home
runs allowed on Friday nights for the Tampa Bay Rays.
(01:04:43):
Lance put out a stat that I think they only
have one extra base hit in the last five games.
I mean, this team is desperate for either someone on
the roster to step up and go with Ellie and
be a difference maker, or they're desperate for someone to
be added to this team that can give them some
pop the final two months. The fan base three members
(01:05:04):
what happened a couple of years ago. This team was
in position could be competitive in August and September, and
they did not equip them with anything but Sam Mall
and that was disappointing. And it feels like the optics
of what happened then, in the backlash of what happened then,
should drive this front office to do something different this year.
(01:05:25):
There are players out there that can help this team,
and I don't think it would cost them their top
draft picks, or their top prospects or their major league
talent already in Cincinnati. They can get someone that can
help this team. And there are positions that need help,
and there are spots in the lineup that need help.
(01:05:46):
The team is there. They're very much going to be
a factor. It feels like the wild Card is separating
by four teams going for three spots. With the way
the Giants and the Cardinals are playing right now, it's
imperative for the front office the understand the moment, to
feel the moment and help this team and give them
something this week that can help them the final too much?
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Are you heading to Bristol this weekend?
Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
I am yeah? The league Thursday. What a week for
Fox nineteen.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
I was gonna say, what do you got coming up?
Speaker 5 (01:06:19):
We have a one hour Bengals training camp special two
to three o'clock on Thursday. The second that show ends,
we pile in the car and we head to Bristol
Motor Speedway. Live all there all Friday. Then Saturday we
have a live special inside Bristol Motor Speedway on the
(01:06:42):
field two to three o'clock to get your set for
the biggest crowd ever to watch a baseball game in
Major League.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
History, unbelievable. Without further ado, I do need to get
your your take on Happy Gilmour Joe ready, I need this,
need this.
Speaker 5 (01:07:01):
My official review of Happy Gilmore goes as such. What
I just watched was one of the most insanely idiotic
movies I've ever watched. At no point in that rambling,
incoherent mess was there even close to anything that can
be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is
(01:07:21):
now dumber for having watched it. I award you no point,
and may God have mercy on your soul. You know, guys,
everybody told.
Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
Me, did you did you write that? Here's the problem.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
Joe Austin has no idea what movie you're talking about there,
That's that's the issue. Unbelievable. I guarantee, I guarantee he's
never seen that either.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
No, I haven't wait. Was that a bit? Did you
just do a bit from another movie?
Speaker 5 (01:07:51):
That is a bit from another Tony I could tell, guy.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
I thought you wrote that. I thought you were being serious.
Speaker 5 (01:07:59):
Awards you no points, Boston and may God have mercy
on your soul.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
Sucks. I just what were you expecting from it? What
were you expecting Dan?
Speaker 5 (01:08:14):
Well, well, everybody said, just relax and have a few laughs.
I couldn't relax. I wasn't laughing. Here's my here's my issue.
And no spoilers, Okay, no spoilers. I know it just
came out. Cameos are are great. Cameos are fine when
the person plays him or herself. When they ask athletes
(01:08:35):
and celebrities from other walks of life to play roles
and act, it can be brutal. And it was brutal,
And the hardest part for me was a lot of
the cameos. I'm so old I didn't even know who
these people were, and so therefore I'm trying to keep
up with who these people are, why they're in this movie.
(01:08:57):
Why is there an LPGA Golfer playing someone on a
board of an insane asybum? I mean, this is this
is nuts. It was absolutely crazy, dude. I'm getting text
as I'm on here, people saying, are you serious? I
thought Happy Gilmore was great? I mean this is wild.
Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
I'm telling you. You can talk all you want about
Shamar Stewart or the Bengals or Reds in a playoff budget,
but talk about Happy Gilmour and people lose their mind.
Speaker 2 (01:09:22):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (01:09:24):
It's either way. There's no middle ground. Either hate it
or you loved it and the people that liked it
or the problem is the people that didn't like it
are getting bullied. What we're not allowed to be like? Okay,
it just wasn't good. Nineteen ninety six was a great
year in my life. I saw that movie seven times
in the theaters. I was obsessed with Happy Gilmore. Tony.
(01:09:45):
They had thirty years to come up with something fun,
thirty years, and that's what we got.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:09:53):
Flop tough flop.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
It's tough slop he calls it. Oh my god, was
it was? It was brutal. It was brutal.
Speaker 5 (01:10:01):
That Uh, that's how Joe.
Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
That's how.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
Joe's kicking off a very big week for Fox nineteen,
which makes it even more appreciative that you gave us
some time today.
Speaker 8 (01:10:09):
Joe.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
We'll talk again next week, Joe, I hope has in Bristol.
Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
Brother, I'll see you at the speedway. Audience.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
That is Joe Daniman from Fox nineteen. See you at
the speedway sounds like John Satak with the alliteration right there.
Speaker 3 (01:10:24):
This is since he three sixty thanks to Cincy Shirts.
We'll be back with your talkbacks next on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 20 (01:10:30):
Press the microphone message us then and down, keep.
Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
The clean a sprinkles our wish that time for guy.
Speaker 7 (01:10:46):
It's our favorite and three sex stays.
Speaker 20 (01:10:51):
Yeah, you played at the screen.
Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
All right, No, Sabota, We got a list of talkbacks
thanks to Cinty Schertzer was going to give away a
gift card here at the end of the week for
the best talkback and these now are your submissions.
Speaker 5 (01:11:09):
It's the Lord on a Taco Tuesday. Yesterday you were.
Speaker 21 (01:11:13):
Talking about if Adam Sandler was funny anymore. I want
to do a start bench cut other actors that really
aren't funny anymore. Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart, Eddie Murphy start
bench cuts, start for that funny anymore?
Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
Start Will Ferrell bench Eddie Murphy because he's been so
good for so long. And I'll cut Kevin Hart because
he has been quiet as of Lakemore. Eddie Murphy wore
Bengals Jersey on Saturday Night Live.
Speaker 20 (01:11:45):
Yeah correction. Yesterday during my talkback, I said the name
Bob Denver.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
I know what you meant.
Speaker 12 (01:11:51):
I meant to say John Denver, the country root.
Speaker 20 (01:11:55):
So Bob Denver is actually the guy who played Gilligan
on Gilligan's Island. Austin, are you familiar with Gilligan's eyes?
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
I know what it is.
Speaker 6 (01:12:04):
Now.
Speaker 20 (01:12:04):
One thing I love about this show how open you
are with the listeners and vulnerable you guys are. Austin,
you didn't get to watch Teletubbies as a kid. Yeah man, Yeah,
so Austin, you didn't get to watch Teletubbies as a kid.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
Where did you grow up?
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
Saudi Arabia?
Speaker 20 (01:12:24):
As for me, I didn't get to watch Showtime after
Dark as a kid. You didn't get to watch Tellatubbies
as a kid, Tony, your taste in movies is like
your Bland palette. Austin is over there watching Interstellar and
good movies, and you're just like, stop, brothers.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
I just want to laugh. Have you ever seen an Interstellar?
I have the way that you know, bends your mind. Yeah,
that's what I look for from movies. I do love shows.
I want to walk out of there with a different
perspective on light.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
I love shows and movies that at the end you're
just out by how everything came together.
Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
Yeah. And if it's not that, I just want to
stupidly laugh, Tony.
Speaker 20 (01:13:06):
When it comes to movies, you like the low hanging Fruit,
don't you. You're all about the Joe dirt and hey, Meredith,
let's let's watch Tommy Boy. You know Auten Keep it up, buddy,
you know what's real?
Speaker 6 (01:13:23):
What's good like.
Speaker 20 (01:13:25):
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Line, The English Patient, good movies, Tony,
do better, tighten it up?
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
Got it? Thank you, Dallas Buyers Club. Spotlight one of
the best movies I've ever seen. I can't think too
much during movies.
Speaker 22 (01:13:39):
Hey, guys, with all of these other announcers and crews
and stuff, doing the top five of each position in
the NFL, you guys, being the radicals that you all
this season, you consider doing a series of the worst
five at each position in this year. I think that
would be like the top five like this, how.
Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
Many how many Bengals are at the top five worst
at their position in the NFL worst five? You probably
start with Cordell Volson kind of go from there. We
go talk later as well. I haven't heard.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
I haven't said one thing about Cordell Volson at campus
far I.
Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
Know, oh you're talking to Before the show, I was like,
as anybody said Cordell Volson's name, Like, what's going on
with that cat? Not a word? I think. We asked
Daneman about Cody Ford and he didn't even bring up Cordell.
Speaker 23 (01:14:25):
Afl is TJ east Side making sure since he three
sixties owned Mike from Cincinnati called into the DP show
that support of the Beatles being way better than Oasis true.
At Mike just wanted to give props to Mic for
being a great contributor since he three sixty as well.
Learned a lot about Austin yesterday and a funny show
had a cousin wasn't allowed to watch the Smurfs dude
(01:14:46):
to its pagan undertames, sounds similar oh miss eating chi
as my pop and watching the Covey Games on WGN.
Speaker 5 (01:14:52):
Rest in peace right now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
Man, Yeah, yep, shout out to mic man.
Speaker 7 (01:14:58):
Hey, fellas, I out one word for y'all.
Speaker 4 (01:15:01):
Mick Rib.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
If that thing we're out all year round.
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
Shoot, I'd be running right next to you, Audie, I'd
be You'd be looking like Tony standing next to you
when you're standing next to me.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
I get one McRib a year, Right, I go Mick
Rib with onion, a large sprite and fries. I get
that once a year. Hold you over. Oh yeah.
Speaker 24 (01:15:23):
The idea of bringing Swarz back really just pisses me
off because it makes me think about how stupid Nick
Crawl is for trading Suarez for basically peanuts. I mean,
unless you don't count Jake Freeley and Justin Dunn. His
peanuts and his extension that we gave him was roughly
about eleven million dollars per season, which is a pretty
(01:15:44):
good deal for a third baseman that consistently finished top
ten or top five in home runs in RBIs.
Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
Yeah, we did have the color yesterday kind of remind
us about the shoulder injury that Suarez had and how
he struggled. You know, it took a year year and
a half for him to really get back to normal,
and once he did, he took off.
Speaker 5 (01:16:01):
Again, going on Fellas.
Speaker 18 (01:16:03):
So one thing that I go absolutely freaking such about.
Don't mind you, I'm a white nail in my mid
thirty contact year. I freaking go the nuns during pumpkin spike.
Speaker 25 (01:16:17):
Even and I'm not even afraid to admit.
Speaker 18 (01:16:19):
It, Like you can take away my man card, Fulton,
Pumpkin spike everything, handle Hop, part Cereal, drinks.
Speaker 5 (01:16:28):
You name it, beer wow.
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
I do like a pumpkin spice candle, and I'll drink
the coffee once or twice a year during the fall,
all right, But I don't go crazy for it. I
don't do anything but respect to our guy here for
Admittigan on the radio. Yeah, that's that's a big step.
Speaker 24 (01:16:45):
About the idea of trading for a mid tier starter,
like a number three, maybe a rental starter, and then
shifting Nick Martinez back to the bullpen where he belongs.
He can eat up two to three innings, and then
if the Reds made the playoffs, shift Chase Burns to
the bullpen as well.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
If I would be ideal.
Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
If that move is accompanied by adding a power bat,
then I'd be all for it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
Yeah, I would. I would be a perfect situation. Just
got to figure out what Chase Burns inning's limit is,
pitches limit, and if he's actually going to be somebody
that could help you on the postseason ross turnout if you.
Speaker 5 (01:17:21):
Get to that point, right, Sorry, Aunie, what's up? As ice?
Speaker 4 (01:17:25):
Love the topic about Reese's my favorite candy?
Speaker 8 (01:17:28):
Okay, my theory is this and why the trees.
Speaker 26 (01:17:31):
And the bunnies taste so good. They don't have the
actually like cup. You know, the top part of the outside,
the edges. So what I do is I eat that
part off and then I eat the center of it. Dubes,
I'm telling you, it tastes so good.
Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
Cry Sometimes it tastes just like the trees or the bunny.
Let me know what delicious.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
He's saying that, like rougher edge of the cup changes
the changes the texture maybe and the taste. And I
bet that might be true if the outer part is
a little bit harder that might affect the taste. Okay. Now,
I've been told that the iceman is a candy connoisseur.
Really he's very well, you know, understand sweet treats. So
(01:18:16):
I would trust a judgment on this. Okay.
Speaker 7 (01:18:18):
As far as seasonal food items go, I'm a big
fan of Lent, mainly for all the fish sandwich options that.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
You have access to. Okay, there you go every once
in a while good fish sandwich.
Speaker 27 (01:18:33):
A big Ryan Sandberg fan and wanted them to go
to a World Series in eighty four. Podre speed him.
I love Reese's peanut buttercups, Anti the mcribo. I wish
I never would have heard the three words Trey Hendrickson
contract guys with bananas, but we have. We're trying to
(01:18:56):
have a good pop.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
I think we should replace the word banana is with
trags like that drives me trags, yep.
Speaker 28 (01:19:03):
I like that part time Fike and egregious sauce and
at your boys, and so would recommend shout easy for
giving me the shout out on Twitter and on top.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Bags last week.
Speaker 28 (01:19:19):
Gotta start giving that guy less hate. But my question
to you guys is what is your dream vacation slast
destination spot and they go red legs boots on the
ground tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
Yeah, I'm like, I'm boots on the ground. Like boots
on the ground. I've never been out of the country
on vacation, so I couldn't tell you anything with that,
but I'm pretty simple.
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
See that's to keep Gatlinburg pretty much dream from me.
That's a good question. I too, have never left the country.
I would love to do that sometime, maybe not come back.
A couple last year a group of my friends went
to Bam in Canada, Okay, with those mountains and that
(01:20:03):
beautiful lake and everything that looks really cool. I love that.
My favorite place on Earth I've ever been, though, was Portland, Maine.
I've said that many times. Best place ever.
Speaker 12 (01:20:11):
Hello, this is former President Ronald Riggin and well, Haudie,
I don't believe you look a thing like Mike Tico. No,
you do look like Kyle Schwerber though.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:20:22):
I'm not sure where he's from, but if it's Sydney, Ohio,
you may want to have him take a DNA test
to see if you were long lost brothers.
Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
Well, did you see? I got interviewed by Kay Adams yesterday.
Oh yeah really at Giants camp.
Speaker 4 (01:20:36):
Yeah, good afternoon, gentlemen.
Speaker 11 (01:20:38):
I almost fell out of my chair here at work
when I heard the guy say that Trade played the
run fairly well.
Speaker 5 (01:20:46):
Yeah, did I miss something? I think he watched the
runabout well as I did from my couch. I don't didn't.
Speaker 10 (01:20:54):
I know.
Speaker 5 (01:20:55):
I agree with him. We just did an average.
Speaker 2 (01:20:56):
Defense, and I think that's what will.
Speaker 11 (01:20:59):
Be without Tree is an average defense, and with Trey
we're above average with a good pass rusher.
Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
Yeah. I laughed out loud when he said that.
Speaker 17 (01:21:10):
What TP fifteen Yeah m w W jaellas loving the
new edition to the show with your buddy Colin in
going through the alphabet.
Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
But I did want to clarify, and I need to
do this.
Speaker 8 (01:21:23):
Shout out to my fellow alumni from Middletown High School.
Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
Chris Carter was not from Troy, Ohio.
Speaker 6 (01:21:29):
Oh, Kyle Schwarber from the.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
He's from Troy and he moved to Middletown when he
was young. Wow, those early years were in Troy. Get
your fact straight, Hey, guys, is.
Speaker 29 (01:21:41):
Blud right in the LBA boy anyway? Yeah, wil WA's
coming to the BA baby.
Speaker 5 (01:21:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 29 (01:21:48):
Wow Wow, But you know, I probably I continue to
go to the gas station on the other side of
the street. I like to go in there to get
my illegal vapes. Mike, get him in my guest enhancement pills,
if you know what I mean. I like to get
a good cold chutney slushy, best slushies in town.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love it illegal vapes.
Speaker 5 (01:22:13):
He said Austin.
Speaker 21 (01:22:15):
I hope I'm not reading too much into this, and
I hope I'm not taking the wrong way. But yesterday
you said you would be much happier if you've got
to just sit around and watch.
Speaker 4 (01:22:27):
Movies all day.
Speaker 6 (01:22:30):
Are you not happy at since the three sixty?
Speaker 5 (01:22:34):
Is that what that means?
Speaker 21 (01:22:35):
Or did I misinterpret that?
Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
I think you slightly misinterpreted, y'ad just always trying to
read it. I do appreciate that, Lord, and I've been
trying to talk to you, but I haven't heard much
fact lately. If you could reach out, it would be great.
Speaker 30 (01:22:47):
Other solid star from Chase Burns last night. Yeah, he's
been relatively impressive, mostly because of the strikeouts and the
stuff stuff, but.
Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
That era is still pretty high.
Speaker 30 (01:22:57):
He's had the unfortunate luck of having to go against
the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, and now Dodgers, so I'll
give him some grace there. My question to you guys
is how long is the leash for this guy? Do
you think they're trying to wait it out until Hunter
Green comes back and then they'll swap their places in
the rotation? How many more starts?
Speaker 4 (01:23:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:23:16):
I feel like he gives them a chance to win.
I don't feel like it's just eating starts. I feel
like they have a chance to win. I mean, I
thought ten strikeouts last night against the Dodgers in that lineup,
I thought that was a good start for Chase Burns.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
Yeah, I kind of think that right now. They're gonna
go as long as they can with him up until
he gets to that point and just hope he helps
him win. And if that means that by middle of
September he's done, then he's done. But if that helped
them get back into it or stay in it, then
they'll be okay.
Speaker 10 (01:23:45):
With that set and Simps Township, I'm concerned about the
offensive line, just like I was last year and the
year before and the year before.
Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
Nothing changes. They're old.
Speaker 10 (01:23:56):
You got Orlando Fatty Brown, you got Teddy OFFI cares
he got a new coach with new techniques, new schemes.
They're gonna be slow. They're gonna be behind.
Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
The eight ball once again.
Speaker 10 (01:24:11):
Maybe they get serviceable, but it's not gonna be until late.
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
I don't like the name calling.
Speaker 31 (01:24:21):
Tony seven. Appreciate the epper deck golf tickets. Man, that's
that stuff was awesome, super fun. Me and the girlfriend
went down and had a good time.
Speaker 5 (01:24:31):
Man.
Speaker 8 (01:24:32):
Awesome.
Speaker 31 (01:24:32):
Man, that's a tough look. You didn't know that Billy
Madison quote.
Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
Dude, I had no idea. I was hooklineding sinker. I
was thinking, man, this is why danam and Sportscaster of
the Year like his ability to write like this is awesome.
Speaker 32 (01:24:46):
Tony Austin goes to the Valley game last night. I
mean there was some good things. Chase Burns. I thought
he looked good. I mean, yeah, the hitting is in
situations is terrible. I mean it's not to see him
try to come back, but you know, hey, I wanted
to also give a shout out to Ryan Sandberg.
Speaker 4 (01:25:02):
Man.
Speaker 32 (01:25:03):
As a kid, you know, growing up, all we got
was you know, w g N and uh TVs with
braves so I watched a lot of Cubs game. Was
never a Cubs fan, but you know I was always
a right shut h R.
Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
Sound like Yoshi Noble Yamamoto.
Speaker 23 (01:25:20):
Excuse me calling and real quick, see if you guys
can give me a full breakdown of that three on
three tournament over the weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:25:28):
I wanted to see what you.
Speaker 29 (01:25:29):
Guys' opinions on that were.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Who do you think is gonna win the championship this year?
Whoever Lance Stevenson places for? Whoever Lance place for? I
am born ready. I don't know what's going on there.
I can't hear anything here.
Speaker 31 (01:25:48):
Tony Audie, what up? Boys hitting the double dip? I
love to see the gods here still just just being himself. Man, God,
that guy sticks.
Speaker 6 (01:26:03):
Tp fi Audi mo for out healthy. The English patient
was cheese. So I don't want to hear anything else
about that. Start bench cut movies with the letter I inception,
Interstellar and I am Legend. I hope the Bengals do
well this year, me and my homies flying out to
(01:26:24):
some away games. They better represent Okay, who day all day?
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
I'll start Interstellar and I'll cut the other two because
I haven't seen them. What was the last one. I
Am Legend. I think that's the Will Smith movie. Yeah,
I love I Am Legend. So you gonna start that,
We'll start Iron Legend and then what are you gonna
bench Inception or Interstellar? I'll bench Inception, I'll cut Interstellar.
How dare you?
Speaker 6 (01:26:47):
Dallas?
Speaker 24 (01:26:48):
Bias Club is a great movie because fun Fact had
them done as a bartender in one of the scenes.
Speaker 33 (01:26:53):
There you go, it's true mo healthy with a double dip.
God had the quadruple dip. Big Back Madness ice cream
cookies and that's that's probably really about it and a.
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
Good hard to beat. He called it big back madness.
Big Back, for those who aren't familiar, is a term
for uh fat people activities. Austin Tony, Ryan.
Speaker 6 (01:27:30):
Skate.
Speaker 19 (01:27:31):
I want to get a shout out to Ryan Sandberg
and his family. He was one of my favorite players
as a child. Yeah, kind of an idol of mine. Yeah,
prayers to him and his family. And uh the Reds
lacked energy last night, even Sunday, there was not much.
Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Weird feeling the ball night. The only one that really
brought it was Burns. I hope they're gonna get somebody
you can hit. Hit the ball the park, have good day.
Speaker 3 (01:27:55):
Yeah, it was a weird feeling at the ballpark last night. Yeah,
I know what the energy was.
Speaker 8 (01:28:03):
You can't watch Harry Potter.
Speaker 5 (01:28:05):
It will ruin your soul. You will burn an eternal hell.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
The Witch and the Wichard, They're.
Speaker 7 (01:28:13):
Coming for you.
Speaker 5 (01:28:14):
Harry Potter.
Speaker 7 (01:28:16):
He ruins the mind of all the youth in America.
Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
I watched a Harry Potter Wizard Boy first time, like
two years ago. I thought it was a great little
wizard boy.
Speaker 32 (01:28:27):
George again just about to mccubb the mcgrim is not
even made out of Rick is disgusting. Nobody should be
about to even eat that day. And Chris collins Worth.
You've got to take Chris collins Worth baking.
Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
I know, I know, I'm just playing Devil's advocate today. Yeah.
Speaker 19 (01:28:46):
Two the nicest spots I've ever been to in the
country is Tucson, Arizona and Kalispell, Montana.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Beautiful. I did love Arizona. Arizona's great Yeah started off.
Speaker 20 (01:29:01):
If you do get a chance to go to banf
I highly recommend. My wife and I went there for
twenty fifth anniversary in June and it was spectacular.
Speaker 2 (01:29:10):
Yeah, Okay, I would love to go to bad. Okay,
all right, that's it. Oh, hold on one at the buzzer. Here,
here we go.
Speaker 10 (01:29:20):

line for you know who give me a e isy,
get potato pancake? Maybe make it three?
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
Okay, Okay, it's Steve from the Pacific Northwest. Steve is
a good friend of the show. Steve, if you remember,
is the guy who sent me there, Griffy Bobblehead. Yes,
very good. Hey guys, Ken from the next year, Tony,
You're right. Gatlinburg is awesome. I was there last weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:29:51):
You probably saw my tweet Gatlinburg forever, especially up.
Speaker 34 (01:29:55):
In the mountains. Yeah, whode go Rid and go Big Blue.
I love it here, I love it all right, I
love it. Thank you to all the talkbackers. A quick

Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
Let's start with Mike. Mike, what's up?
Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
Hey?
Speaker 26 (01:31:02):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
Thanks for the punk? Well, what's up with the recis thing?
If you people keep hammering that sugar be where you
end up when you're my age, you probably won't be around.
Speaker 5 (01:31:12):
But go ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
I just I hate that they go and they've adjusted
to the mini pumpkins. It's just something they know, they
know the audience and now they're adding to it.
Speaker 4 (01:31:24):
It must need because you got little ones, you know,
you know that's gotta be a reason.
Speaker 2 (01:31:31):
They also just taste good.
Speaker 8 (01:31:32):
Mike.
Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
Yeah, I don't know there are now Listen, if you
all are serious about playing the home dog strategy, which
if you don't, you're fool, then you have no choice.
Speaker 5 (01:31:44):
But to double down on the Reds tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:31:48):
That's your only choice. Brother. So hopefully they no, I'm
not gonna say hopefully they get Tirler tonight. But if
they do, good for you guys, because you bail on
the series and you, yeah, follow your diligence strategy for
the whole season, which is the key.
Speaker 2 (01:32:06):
If you're the Reds.
Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
You don't want to go into a game against sho
Heyo Tani having to win to avoid the suite for
the first time this season. You need to get to
one tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:32:17):
Yeah. So they got a pitch, and what's it going
to be hot tomorrow or cooling off?
Speaker 3 (01:32:22):
I think it's cooling off a little bit. It's it's
not gonna be as hot as it is today.
Speaker 4 (01:32:26):
Oh good, that's good. Mayso my brother, Maypo Matho, Mayso,
my brother.
Speaker 35 (01:32:35):
The only reason I'm back in my hometown in the
Nattie Brother is because I had to get my leg
chopped off and down at the VA. So that's why
you heard me on the Dan Patrick Showtell Dan because
I am, for instance, tonight my hometown. But uh yeah,
I get a kick out of talking to Dan.
Speaker 4 (01:32:51):
That was a lot of fun talking about the Beatles
and different people's favorite groups and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (01:32:55):
Today, how much of that, Mike, how much of your
life do you think you have spent on hold waiting
to go on the radio show?
Speaker 4 (01:33:03):
Oh god, awesome, She's I can't have a thousands. I've
been doing this a long time. I mean since I retired.
Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
I be big gym Rome guy and all those.
Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
Yeah yeah, Rome used to be hard to get through too, though,
But but you know since because my my, my best
experiences with sports Talk Collins is with you guys and
with MO because you actually take phone calls home doesn't
that much, but you guys do. And uh and that's
been a blessing. See, you guys have been a blessing
to me. And I'm I'm forever indebted to you for
(01:33:40):
I uh, I wonder.
Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
You and to Rico.
Speaker 4 (01:33:47):
You and to report of all. There are three races
of people cocazoid, negroid, and mongoloid. Well the first you
don't meet that close criteria. So I don't know how
you can look that close to Mike to Rico. Might
be the same heights or something.
Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
But I think he was talking about how good we
are as broadcasters.
Speaker 4 (01:34:06):
Oh well, now in that case, well, man, that's that's
putting a lot of pressure on you.
Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
Off.
Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
Well wow, I mean that's a compliment. But who that's
like comparing uh uh some douchebag from Iowa State to
Michael Jordan or something. You I'm not saying you're a
douchebag from what I always say. You know, I'm trying
to say, that's a lot of pressure, brother, but it
gives you motivation. I'm sure. Patrick. He's going to have
(01:34:33):
Justin Herbert on on Thursday.
Speaker 5 (01:34:35):
And I've never heard.
Speaker 4 (01:34:36):
An interview with Justin Herbert, and so I'm looking forward
to him. That they said he's looking good. Yeah, they said,
Harball's got some money play set up for him and
and he's not going to have to throw the ball
as much. So and what the guy was talking about
was me Andmiah uh what's his name, Nelson Nehemiah uh
(01:35:00):
CBS or something, And he was saying that he didn't
realize that Herbert was every big as big as Josh Allen,
and I knew it was big, he said when he
stood next to him. Do you do you think that's right?
Speaker 10 (01:35:14):
Tony?
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
Yes, Herbert's a monster.
Speaker 4 (01:35:18):
So hopefully he stays healthy this year for those guys.
So who's going to come back first? Elvis or Hunter Greens?
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
I'm hoping Hunter Green at because he's at least on
a rehab assignment. I'm hopingunter Elvis isn't hasn't been reassigned
to Triple A Louisville yet.
Speaker 4 (01:35:40):
No, he's he's never reassigned down there. What's his mansion
down there in Memphis or whatever? Eastland? That's what.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
Angels right now. I believe.
Speaker 4 (01:35:57):
That's a good one. I told you Ala was going
to get you left mine. I think I can test
man the curve, even though his name the segment has
the name of the Yoshi. Really not that hard. One
thing about Japanese language, you it's easy to sound out.
Speaker 5 (01:36:17):
It's very funic.
Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
It's very easy because if you take your time to
sound it out, there's not a whole lot of silent
letters and stuff like English, so it's really not that hard. Anyway,
I'm boring everybody, so I wanted to just tell us
that I really appreciated his comment. Thanks, guys, have a
(01:36:39):
good one.
Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
All right, we got Mike. Have you ever heard the
the bit uh? I think it was on the Bob
and Tom show years ago the first baseball game ever played,
and they talk about how, uh Lucifer was sent down,
the Angels sent Lucifer down, and uh Moses just got
(01:37:01):
called up from the Burning Bush League and all that
sort of stuff. So funny. That's what made me think
of Els playing for the Graceland Angels right now.
Speaker 3 (01:37:11):
Fantastic, man, Let's get one more here while we got
a second.
Speaker 2 (01:37:15):
Rob, what's up?
Speaker 25 (01:37:18):
Hey, guys, thanks taking my call. Enjoy your show and
keep up the good work. I'm three things. Be Rupp
had three things for you often. One, maybe I'm winning
if you've seen probably have, I'm not sure Rayman with
Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, and let you guys discuss that.
(01:37:40):
The other thing. Two things are who is going to
be the starting defense and what positions? And besides you know,
as far as the second best option, and a few
foods to try if you have it. Wendy's fries with
honey mustard. Get the honey mustard. That's on the sandwiches,
(01:38:02):
not the packs. Pretty good stuff. And when I was
a kid, my dad used to take peanut butter and
put maple syrup in it and mix it put it
on a sandwich.
Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Okay, I've done peanut butter and honey.
Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
Thank you, Thanks rob One. The only thing I put
on fries is salt. You don't use ketchup. No, Wendy's
good because they have the sea salt. Sure try that.
Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
Have you seen rain Man? No, never heard of it.
I pulled up the Wikipedia page here. Rain Man is
a nineteen eighty eight American road comedy drama films Good
directed by Barry Levinson and written by Barry Morrow and
Ronald Bass. Tells the story of abrasive and selfish wheeler
dealer Charlie Babbitt played by Tom Cruise, who discovers that
(01:38:49):
his estranged father has died and bequeathed his million dollar
estate to his other son, Raymond, played by Dustin Hofton.
That's rain Man, Okay, it's a good one. Cool nineteen
eighty eight. Yeah, all right, get your check it out,
all right? Starting defense for the Bengals, Here's who I
(01:39:09):
got left defensive end. Joseph Osai nose tackle, TJ Slayton,
three technique, BJ Hill, right defensive end, Trey Hendrickson left cornerback,
Dax Hill, slot cornerback, DJ Turner, right cornerback, Cam Taylor,
Britt Mike linebacker, Logan Wilson, Will linebacker, Demetrius Knight strong safety,
(01:39:37):
Jordan Battle free safety Ginostone. I think you're on it.
I think that would change.
Speaker 3 (01:39:42):
I think I think Dax Hill ends up playing inside,
and I think Dj Turner will start on the outside. Okay,
I'll just swap those, But everything else, I think we're
in the same page.
Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
Taylor Ward, Luis, Robert Reed, Debt Merse. Those are some
other names I think the red should be looking at.
Speaker 18 (01:39:56):
I want to.
Speaker 3 (01:39:57):
I want to do that when we come back. Let's
let's recap last night's loss. We'll look ahead tonight and
some deadline conversations now that the Reds seemed to be
finding themselves on the cuspuff If if anything gets done,
we'll see, but the chatter has certainly picked up around
the Cincinnati Reds. We'll do that next on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports station.
Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
Thanks to Penn Station Lowegar, there was some booing of
the team last night.
Speaker 27 (01:40:20):
When it comes to sports, he's got something.
Speaker 2 (01:40:23):
To say for just natural byproducts and plenty of it
of poor play.
Speaker 8 (01:40:27):
Loegar Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 5 (01:40:32):
Do Clomb's Disease or.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Ulterdixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (01:40:43):
Welcome back since he three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station, a service.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
Of Penn Station.
Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
Back to our normal training camp schedule tomorrow and Thursday
with the Bengals back in action ten am to noon
with the Tony and Moe Training Camp Show since three
six right after that, and then the Moeger Show all happening tomorrow.
We do need to spend some time on the game
last night, the Reds five two losers at home to
(01:41:10):
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chase Burns five and two thirds,
six hits, three runs, struck out ten, and walked one.
Before we even go any further, what was your takeaway
from watching Chase Burns work on the mound last night.
Speaker 2 (01:41:27):
Tough to go up against those hitters, especially the top
three in the Dodger lineup, but he was fearless. There's
a couple of times I thought maybe he'd go to
a breaking pitch, maybe go to the slider, try to
throw that change up down and into lefties. And he
went right after him, right after him with the fastball.
Speaker 6 (01:41:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
And I thought did a better job locating the fastball
than we've seen at times in his first few starts.
Excuse me, so to me, I thought it was a
step in the right direction for Chase Burns. I enjoyed it.
It's such a tough lineup to face. And we talked
about Chase Burns since he became a member of the Reds,
the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Phillies, now the Dodgers.
(01:42:06):
He's going to pitch in Bristol in front of the
most fans to ever watch a Major League Baseball game.
I mean, it has not been an easy start from
an opponent standpoint for Chase Burns, and I think for
the most part, outside of a couple different areas, he's
more than held his own. And you can see the
promise and the upside of what Chase Burns brings to
the table. On the other side of it, the Reds
(01:42:27):
were just they weren't able to capitalize really at all
with anyone in scoring position. They were three for ten
on the game last night. Austin Hayes led a good
opportunity to go by with runners on first and third
pretty early in the game. But outside of that, I
don't know why. It just had the feel of a
I don't want to say boring, but it just it
(01:42:48):
felt off last night watching the game. I think part
of it was that Yamamoto was nasty, and after those
early chances, you didn't know how many more you were
going to get and they didn't, and it kind of
felt like, you know, if they don't capitalize on that,
then then Yamamoto is gonna gonna mow him down, and
you don't know how long Chase Burns is gonna be
able to give you against that lineup. So it felt like, gosh,
(01:43:11):
those missed opportunities might cost them the game, and they
ended up doing it.
Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
Yeah, they did have an opportunity late. They did get
Will Benson late in the game was able to single
in a run that made it five to two. And
then again, I know, albeit it's a it's not an
ideal situation, but you have Gavin lux On, You've got
runners on first and third. Marte strikes out and then
(01:43:37):
Freedom walks and you've got all hands on deck now
and it's Matt McClain who grounds out.
Speaker 2 (01:43:43):
Game over.
Speaker 3 (01:43:45):
We talked we haven't talked about it much in the
second half or second half of the season, but remember
early on we talked so much about Ellie batting higher
in the lineup. One of those opportunity instances last night.
If you were to pull anyone who watches the Reds game,
if you'd rather have Elie Matt McLean up at the
bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, everyone's going
to take Elie da la Cruz. He did not get
a chance at the end of the game last night.
(01:44:07):
But because of what they did leading up to that
opener last night, and because of the opportunities they have ahead,
obviously it's Nick Lodolo tonight against Tyler Glass. Now, that's
one you want to get if you're the Cincinnati Reds
because you got to go against Otani, who's not back
to himself from a pitcher standpoint yet. But you've got
Otani going on the mound tomorrow against Nick Martinez. It
(01:44:31):
feels like you got to get this one. And Nick
Lodolo has obviously pitched very well as of late. But
it's the conversation that is now around the Reds because
of the work that they've done, they find themselves all
over the trade deadline conversation right now. ESPN pulled all
of their baseball experts about deals that they would like
(01:44:51):
to see make make happen, and the Reds wind up
on a lot of these. One the Reds get Ioannio
Suarez from the Diamondbacks. Another has the Reds landing Luis
Robert from the Chicago White Sox. Another has the Angels
trading Taylor Ward to the Cincinnati Reds. So those three options,
(01:45:13):
Taylor Ward's a guy that toady eighty seven home runs
over the past four seasons. He's a steady option. He's
not going to crush you from a book standpoint on
what you got to pay him. Those three options out
there often, does any of those three sound better to
you than others?
Speaker 4 (01:45:29):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
No, They're all about the same to me. I mean,
I know Taylor Ward was apparently talked about early in
the offseason last year as the Reds potentially kicking the
tires on him. I think the Angels have had a
bit of an up and down season, but probably not
going anywhere, and they've got stuff to figure out with
their manager. So yeah, I mean I'm in favor of
(01:45:50):
all of them. I would probably put Luis Robert at
the bottom of the list just because he really doesn't
make contact that often. When he does, it usually goes
the long way and he is able to steal some bases.
But yeah, I'm not not a huge fan of Robert
as compared to the other two.
Speaker 3 (01:46:07):
Yeah, I just think that as this happens and what
the Reds have done to put themselves in a position
now there's a lot more eyes on what the Cincinnati
Reds are going to do at the deadline. Is one
enough or does this team need to make multiple moves
in order to give themselves a chance to go after
it now.
Speaker 2 (01:46:22):
I think they need a middle of the lineup bat.
I think they need another starter, and I think they
need a bullpit arm. Yeah, I think they need three
if they think they really challenge the Padres.
Speaker 3 (01:46:35):
I think they need three. For what it's worth. Last night,
the best hitter get at least statistically on the Dodgers
didn't even play last night. That's catcher Will Smith. He's
hitting three twenty four this year, he's been awesome. Another
air last night for the Cincinnati Reds. That not helping
themselves defensively, but with what they've done leading up to
last night, that doesn't hurt as much. If you can
(01:46:58):
find a way to get a win tonight and then
who knows, go for a series win against the Dodgers tomorrow.
If you lose tonight, you put yourself in a very
tough spot going into tomorrow. But I thought, all in all,
one of those games you move on from and you
see what you can do. You gave the stat earlier,
Austin from a game standpoint, I think you said, thirty
two point seven percent of the Reds games this year
(01:47:20):
have ended with zero, one or two runs.
Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
Yeah, this was a stat that Lance had posted earlier.
Thirty five of their one hundred and seven games that
they have played this year have resulted in the Reds
offense scoring two or fewer runs. That equals out to
almost thirty three percent, a full third of the games
that they have played where they score fewer than two runs.
Just crazy, two or fewer runs, I should say, crazy?
(01:47:45):
What's that right there? That is the perfect example as
to why this team is two games out of a
wildcard spot and not owning a playoff spot at the moment. Yeah.
I mean, even go back to those early series against
the Texas range Or they couldn't get a run and
they were They won fourteen to three and then shut
out one to noth in three games in a row.
(01:48:06):
You know, two of those games. If you win, things
are different, yep. And so the tiny little stuff that
adds up over the course of the season. Offensively, it's
just been a major issue for them. As of now,
according to Baseball Reference, they have a thirty one point
two percent chance to make the playoffs, which I mean,
that's much better than what we've seen in the past.
(01:48:29):
But they need help. It is.
Speaker 3 (01:48:34):
Something that you hopefully have shown enough. And again I
go back to what Emilio Pagan said the first game
after the All Star Break, where he talked about it
being a talking point that you want to put pressure
on the organization to have to go out and make
a move, and the only way you do that is
by winning games. And the Reds have won the games
they needed. The sweep of the Rays obviously helps. But
as you sit here today, I can't put enough importance
(01:48:55):
on tonight's game because it gives you an opportunity tomorrow
to win a series against the Dodgers, but it also,
you know, it keeps you. We talked about that stretch
coming into the Tampa series before the deadline. If you
could go four and two over that stretch instead of
what a three and three is at minimum, I think
you put even more pressure on this front office to
(01:49:17):
get something done.
Speaker 2 (01:49:18):
Some of the stats for the Reds so far this season.
They are two and six in extra innings games, which
continues to be an issue for them, and they're run
differential in those games. In those eight games, they are
minus eleven in extra innings in terms of run differential,
not good. One run games, they have improved. They are
(01:49:39):
twelve and thirteen in one run games and I have
a run differential of minus one in those. Now blowout games,
they've been pretty good. They're seventeen and fifteen in those,
and blowouts by according to Baseball Reference, are determined by
five or more runs. They've been really good against the
American League two twenty three and sixteen against the American
(01:50:01):
League with a huge run differential. As far as that's concerned,
They're twelve and ten so far in the month of July.
This after a fifteen and eleven month of June.
Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
All Right, there we have it. That is the latest
on the Cincinnati Reds. Back in action tonight, Nicolodolo Tyler Glass.
Now when we come back, let's switch gears to the Bengals.
Are there players on the Bengals we aren't talking about enough.
We'll do a little more on the offensive line and
a quick bounce around to some other NFL training camp headlines.
(01:50:31):
Next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks to
Penn Station.
Speaker 2 (01:50:36):
When you drive the Nissan front.
Speaker 3 (01:50:45):
Welcome back since he three to sixty. ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. We'll bounce around a little bit quick
updates from other NFL training camps and what's going on.
But you mentioned something earlier Austin. We were talking about
the offensive line, and it's fair to have the offensive
line discussion. And you know, Joe Danman was fantastic today
talked about Dylan Fairchild. There are still things that Dylan
(01:51:08):
Fairchild has to to get fixed before now in the
start of the season. His footwork still has a ways
to go, Understanding the scheme, understanding the offense, I don't think.
I know they want him to be the starter week one,
but there are still a lot of avenues that he
has to cross before he becomes a surefire starter week
(01:51:31):
one at guard for the Cincinnati Bengals. That still has
to play itself out. And with that we mentioned how
oddly quiet it has been around the name Courtel Volson.
I mean, we've rarely at all talked about Courtell Volson
at this point. Is there another player or players on
the team that you're surprised we haven't heard much from yet?
Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
I feel like we haven't heard much from Barrett Carter either. Yeah,
I don't know that that's a bad thing, especially because
he's gotten some snaps and is getting some opportunities. I
haven't heard much from Warren Burks. I think the conversation
has basically been Logan Wilson and Demetrius Knight, and that's
it at the linebacker spot. But I think those two
(01:52:13):
guys will play big roles and we haven't heard much
from them. Yeah. That and I think it's strange that,
like again one one padded practice, the Cordell Volson experiment
hasn't really gotten underway. How has he improved? Has he
not even earned the right to get first team praps.
And maybe we won't know until the end of this week,
(01:52:33):
but they're giving Cody Ford a chance to take the job.
And again one padded practice, but a week into training
camp doesn't feel like he's really separated himself.
Speaker 3 (01:52:44):
It is hard in the trenches because you're just now
starting to notice it with padded practice. I haven't seen
or heard much about McKinley Jackson. Yeah, we talked about
him in one of our pole questions, but haven't talked
much going forward about him. It's hard because again I
don't think in camps in previous years there's a lot
(01:53:05):
more conversation around those bottom of the roster guys. I
just don't think there's a lot of spots up for grabs. Obviously,
Lucas Patrick dealing with the calf injury right now, you
want to see what that looks like because it's already
a position that doesn't have a ton of depth. If
you think about guard, you're thinking Fairchild, forward, Patrick Vohlsen,
maybe Jackson Kirkland. They move Matt Lee and got him
(01:53:28):
some guard reps as well, but I don't I'm not
there yet with the offensive line, It's probably the biggest
holding point right now for me with this team of
where they're at and where they need to be between
now and the start of the regular season, we haven't
we haven't talked much about the tight end position outside
(01:53:50):
of Noah Fan and maybe adding him. We've seen a
little Mike Gasicki, but haven't talked much about Drew Sample,
haven't talked much about Tanner Hudson. I think why receiver
is what it is. You know, it's Jamar Chase T Higgins.
We've talked a lot up to this point about Jermaine Burton.
I think Yoshi Vash has been solid right now. Running
back has been a conversation we've had, but I agree
(01:54:12):
it's been oddly quiet on Courtell Volson. Barrett Carter I
think is still trying to find his footing. You want
to know more about what you have with Orn Burk's,
but how they decide to use the depth and the
secondary is going to be key. But those are a
few names that now that you mentioned that, I mean,
we we're almost what five six practices in now and
(01:54:33):
we've not heard much about them. Yeah, and I think
Courtell Volson is one that you wonder what would have
to happen for him to start getting those first team reps.
And if you do see Volson getting first team reps,
what's that mean about the trajectory of the offensive line?
Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
Right, That's what he can say. And maybe it could
be as much as, hey, let's give these guys a
full week of these practices, as many padded practices as
they can before they start making the move. And also
maybe Dylan Fairchild, you don't want to feel like Courtel
Volson's breathing down neck or you know, I think for
Cody Ford that's a good thing. But for Dylan Fairchild,
(01:55:05):
you know, you want him to play fast. You don't
want him to think, and you don't want them to
be worried about anything that might be coming down the pipe.
And I think there's a big gap between how the
Bengals view Dylan Fairchild and how they view Cordell Wolson.
There may not be as much of a gap in
the way that they view Cody Ford and Lucas Patrick maybe,
(01:55:26):
but I think both those guys are going to be
given the opportunity with those first padded practices, and I
think they can't go three days in a row pads
so again again. Zach Taylor said yesterday too that he
waits through two preseason games to start putting labels on stuff,
and I disagree with that. I don't like that rhetoric
from Zach there, and I hope that maybe they're a
(01:55:46):
little more open minded on that. But yeah, I'm curious
at what point it starts to feel like a competition,
because it doesn't really feel like one right now. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
Albert Breer had a couple takeaways from Sunday's practice that
he attended for Sports Illustrated. Talked about the offense he said,
by his count and Joe Burrow had two throws that
hit the ground. On Sunday's practice, he said, Jamar Chase
and t Higgins looked all world and I don't I
(01:56:14):
think it's it's worth noting. He talked about the first
conventional offseason that Cincinnati's offensive corp has had together free
of injuries, rehab from from injuries, contract disputes, and I
think you're seeing that now. Even when you go into
the tackles, you know what's a Marius Mims. You know
it's Orlando Brown junior. You know who the role players
(01:56:36):
are gonna be. Albert Breer talked about the emergence of
Chase Brown and how he worked in the off season
on improving in every way in the passing game. How
many years Austin we told you we talked about Joe
Mixon and just the inability to be the three down back,
the inability to take the next step in pass protection.
Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
That's all.
Speaker 3 (01:56:55):
That's that's Chase Brown's main focus this offseason was helping
in every way in the past, in protection, in route
running like that. That's gonna be a huge step for
this offense to go going forward. He obviously pointed out
the obvious that the biggest position battle on offense is guard.
He talked about a ton of questions defensively, the top
(01:57:18):
one being Trey Hendrickson and the reason for optimism. The
term fast is what everyone keeps going back to on
how al Golden's group is playing in an early training camp,
that that's something you hope to be doing, but the
speed in which they're playing tells me that they they're
(01:57:42):
not dumbing it down, but they are simplifying things in
a way that allows the defense to not think and
just react. And I think those were all positive takeaways
from Albert Breer. But I think the points around the offense,
and we've talked about Joe Burrow, but even when Joe
Burrow has been healthy, with t Higgins and Jamar Chase,
(01:58:02):
it always hasn't been their ability to be on the field.
I can't even describe how much it's helping that they
are practicing every day and they're out there together, and
I think it's overlooked because we quickly move on, but
not having that in years past. Again, last year, how
many days were we deciphering tightness of spirals and zip
(01:58:24):
on the ball. We're not doing that anymore. We're not
talking about a Jamar Chase holdout. We're talking about the
plays they're making on the field. We're talking about the
practices they're attending and what they're able to get done
from an offensive standpoint. All that it's going to bode
well for the offense. We know that the questions are
going to be on the defensive side of the ball,
but ideally those as practices unfold, continue to play themselves out.
(01:58:45):
If you get in those situations, I think you are
trending in the right direction. If you're the Cincinnati Bengals,
Moagger is next, He's waiting to join us for quick
hits on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:58:58):
On this the home of the Bengals, c.
Speaker 5 (01:59:00):
KHY, Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (01:59:01):
I made three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. It's time for Cincy three sixty quick hits
on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:59:15):
Oh, I pressed the wrong button. Was looking for mo?
Speaker 4 (01:59:19):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
Were looking for mo? Button's right next to the Oh,
welcome to the jungle button. Here we go. Oops, we're in.
Speaker 3 (01:59:27):
Since he three sixty, this is quots here, man, I
thought that was a I thought Austin played a sounder.
Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
Yes, are you ready to go?
Speaker 8 (01:59:36):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:59:36):
Starting early? Right? What do you got coming up on
your show today? Paul Danner Junior is going to be here.
Speaker 6 (01:59:42):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (01:59:42):
Love Paul in studio to talk about the Bengals training camp,
Shamar Stuart Oh, Jermaine Burton, Tredy Hendrickson, so much more.
Speaker 2 (01:59:52):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:59:53):
There's two things I wish would not have happened during
last night's Red's game.
Speaker 2 (01:59:57):
I'm going to be accused of being a homer.
Speaker 7 (01:59:59):
When I talk about what I'm gonna talk about at
the four o'clock hour. When it comes to the Reds.
We will remember one of the faces of my youth
who passed away yesterday. Plus live training camp reports. Here's
how thorough our training camp coverage is. There's no training
camp coverage. I mean there's no training camp. No, we
are still gonna have training camp coverage for you. Three
(02:00:20):
forty five, four forty five, five forty five. Wow with
Tony Pike. You want to talk about dedication, that's you
or me. Really, I still have to be here no
matter what, just delivering. You don't have to be but
you still will.
Speaker 3 (02:00:33):
Be Speaking of delivering, Yeah, would you make a Chase
Burns last night on the mound?
Speaker 7 (02:00:37):
I wish he would not have been in the game
to pitch to show Heyo Tani a third time? But
how are you not really excited about what he's going
to turn out to be? And we were talking about
this before. They have thrown him to the Wolves now
and they've given him a pretty long leash, and including
last night, the future is really bright. You know you
You feel like every game there's like one or two
(02:01:00):
pitches that he makes that if they go the other way,
it goes from an encouraging start to like a bona
fide like legitimately good start. I didn't like how the
offense didn't produce in the middle innings. Didn't love how
Matt McLain swung the bat ahead of two or head
two oh in the bottom of the ninth inning. But
tough loss. Uh, not one worth pulling your hair out,
(02:01:21):
But get one tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:01:23):
Lodolo's been fantastic as of late. He has been glass
now is really good. Yeah, you're gonna see Otani tomorrow.
You don't want to go in tomorrow with shot on
the mound trying to avoid your first sweep of the season.
Speaker 2 (02:01:34):
Correct. Red's gonna do anything at the deadline. Yes, I
think they'll let a bullpen arm.
Speaker 7 (02:01:40):
Okay, no Bat, I I feel like they should.
Speaker 2 (02:01:49):
I feel like the Bats are gonna be too rich
for their blood.
Speaker 7 (02:01:51):
Yeah, I mean everybody wants a Eohans warreants Taylor Ward's
interesting to me. To me, he's the most interesting fit
m H. Folks have written about Stephen Kwan. I don't
know why the Guardians would trade him years of team control.
I just feel like I in Luis Robert is a
wild card because he's starting to hit a little bit better.
Speaker 2 (02:02:13):
But he has been really bad for a while now.
Speaker 7 (02:02:16):
I just I feel like there's like two good options
out there, really good options, like ideal fits out there,
and I think it's gonna cost for them a little
bit too much. That's the thing about this is like
we don't we don't know what the Reds are willing
to give up.
Speaker 2 (02:02:32):
Like we know what they need, we don't know.
Speaker 7 (02:02:35):
Like we could talk about like they should value Sal
Stewart and not trade him, and god knows you don't
want to trade him, But do the Reds feel that way?
Speaker 25 (02:02:44):
Right?
Speaker 7 (02:02:45):
Like to what length is Nick Krawl willing to go?
And maybe more important, to what length is Nick Krawl
allowed to go? I'm not sure we know the answers
to those questions. By the way, Like I certainly hope
this isn't the case. What if they lose tonight and
tomorrow and the Padres win and suddenly that one game
(02:03:05):
deficit yesterday is a four game deficit. That really doesn't
change the math for me, right, but I wonder if
it does for them. Yeah, Austin brought this up today.
We were talking before the show.
Speaker 3 (02:03:16):
Is it odd that we've been down to each training
camp practice and we've not made one comment about Cordell Volson.
Yet it's not odd because they really talked about the trenches.
Man haven't been really hitting and when they did hit,
we got kicked out.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
Yeah, if how bad does Fairchild have to be?
Speaker 5 (02:03:34):
I think?
Speaker 3 (02:03:35):
And if he's bad is the conversation? Let Volson compete
for the job or you have to now go get
help elsewhere.
Speaker 7 (02:03:41):
So two things about Dylan Fairchild. I feel like he
would almost have to fall flat on his face. He
would have to be Jackson Carmen two point zero go
like he would have to legit. I think not only
would he have to be bad, like somebody would have
to like step up and take the job from him,
which Cordel Volson did that a couple of years ago
with Jackson Carmen. I mean, I remember that first preseason
game where Jackson Carmen played poorly, Cordell Folson stepped up
(02:04:04):
and said, I'll take that job. I think something like
that to an even larger degree would have to happen.
I think cut down day would be interesting though, right.
I think cut down Day at that point would be interesting.
There's a reason Brandon Sheriff is out there. Maybe it's
just because he's thirty three, Like, we can bang on
the Bengals for not signing him, but nobody else says either.
Now here's my other thing about Dylan Fairchild, Austin. Do
(02:04:26):
you know how many postgame shows you'll be hosting this year?
Speaker 2 (02:04:29):
Seven?
Speaker 7 (02:04:30):
In one of those postgame shows, you should play a
little game. Who's going to be the first person to
refer to Dylan Fairchild as Stuart Fairchild. It's tough because
remember when the Bengals had Billy Price, right, Billy Price
was a center.
Speaker 2 (02:04:45):
Elected into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame, Billy Price,
Billy Price to these days he's away from football. I
think he's getting his doctorate. Something good for Billy Price.
Speaker 7 (02:04:54):
I listened to a postgame show after a game where
there were like seven references to Brian Price. Brian Price
was the Reds manager who I think got fired that
same year Brian Price.
Speaker 2 (02:05:07):
How many Stuart fairchilds?
Speaker 7 (02:05:09):
There's really you get during a postgame show from people
who want to talk about the Bengals third round pick
a lot?
Speaker 2 (02:05:14):
Well, so that means we'll set the over under it
seventeen and a half as an homage to Stuart. If
Dylan Fairchild has a bad game, You're gonna get some.
Stuart's one of my problems so far is I've already
called Taj Brooks Taj Boyd several times. I've done it
the same, and I think that's like a mix of
obviously Taj Boyd and Tyler Boyd and done, I've done
the same. There's only so many taj is.
Speaker 7 (02:05:35):
Yeah, like Taj Boyd, the Clemson quarterback from back in
the day, and like I've I've I've committed that faux pa.
Speaker 2 (02:05:42):
I've committed many faux pause over my life.
Speaker 3 (02:05:44):
Speaking of committing, Yeah, you were originally committed to watch
Happy Gilmore To last night.
Speaker 2 (02:05:48):
It didn't happen. You are now recommitting to watching Happy
Gilmore To tonight.
Speaker 7 (02:05:52):
Tonight, I have less going on than I did last night.
I'm going to attend the base I'll give you my evening. Sure,
I'm going to attend the baseball game tonight same perhaps
I'll see you there. And then I'm going to prepare
a pork shoulder that I'm going to smoke tomorrow night.
Speaker 6 (02:06:08):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (02:06:09):
Once I finished with that and clean up the mess
in my kitchen, I'm gonna sit down, probably around midnight
and watch Happy Gilmore too interesting.
Speaker 3 (02:06:19):
You won't turn it on while you're preparing the shoulder, No,
I want to focus in, Okay, I want to like, uh,
maybe I would.
Speaker 2 (02:06:26):
I'll do is.
Speaker 7 (02:06:27):
I'll turn on Happy Gilmore one see now you're while
I'm preparing the shoulder, and then I'll watch Happy Gilmore too.
Speaker 2 (02:06:35):
And I cannot wait to talk about it with you
guys tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (02:06:37):
I can't imagine the mindset of Austin when Joe Danimon
was with us today and Joe essentially recited to Billy
Madison's speech when they were doing the trivia, and I
knew based on Austin's reaction that he didn't know what
Joe was discussing.
Speaker 2 (02:06:53):
Is Billy Madison a different movie or is it in
Happy Gilmore. It's a different movie. It's a different movie.
So all of his friends essentially are in the same.
Speaker 7 (02:07:00):
They came out about a year apart from each other, right,
and they're sort of like the two quintessential Adam Sandler classes.
Speaker 3 (02:07:07):
But Austin legitimately thought that Danneman had wrote that out
my exact prepared for today.
Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
My exact thought was, damn, he wrote this down. Is
there gonna be a Billy Madison too, and.
Speaker 3 (02:07:19):
Will depends how many friends that still wants to be
in the movie.
Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
Yeah, you know so. Norm McDonald is no longer with us.
Speaker 7 (02:07:27):
The guy who played whose name escapes me because he's
funny as hell, Brian Doley Murray, Brian Doyle Murray is
no longer with us.
Speaker 2 (02:07:38):
I don't think he is. Maybe he is. I don't know.
Speaker 7 (02:07:41):
Is it gonna be a Billiy Madison too? I have
one more question, idea, what the hell I'm talking about?
Barry Larkin last night said home runs kill rallies? Your
thoughts I idolized Barry Larkin. I don't understand the.
Speaker 2 (02:07:53):
Lot, probably one that he wishes he had back.
Speaker 7 (02:07:55):
I hear this from other fans like, oh, you know,
the home run can kill a rally.
Speaker 2 (02:08:00):
We're gonna complain about home runs, now give me the
home run. You know what? The touchdowns kill a scoring drive.
Speaker 7 (02:08:07):
Clock up at the end of a good possession, which
you don't want, is a three point shot?
Speaker 2 (02:08:11):
Home runs kill rallies? What are they doing?
Speaker 7 (02:08:14):
Not his best moment, but he has echoed something that
I've heard a lot of people say. Not Brian, I'm thinking,
I'm thinking of the Ryan it's not Brian Doyle Murray,
it's somebody else.
Speaker 2 (02:08:25):
My mind is everywhere. Right then, I got the pork shoulder,
I get the ball game. I gotta just go A
sick kid.
Speaker 3 (02:08:34):
A lot going on here, give yourself a couple of
minutes to regroup, and most coming up next.
Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
All Danner Junior is going to be here to rest
the Yeah, he'll save it. He'll stare in the right
Do you think happy widmore too yet?
Speaker 7 (02:08:44):
Yes, he's covering training camp, although it is his one
Kid's Way sleep away camp, so maybe maybe a little
extra time.
Speaker 2 (02:08:52):
What am I doing? Mos next? With more of this
