Speaker 4 (00:43):
Oh goodness, Yeah, what a day to be back. It's
since e three sixty. It's ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
We're a service of our friends. It's Skyline Chili and
you can also find us on the iHeartRadio app. If so,
leave us a talk back. Let me hear you your
takeaways from last night's Bengals win. Yes, the Bengals won,

(01:06):
although if you followed along to the first quarter of
last night's game, you would have thought it was far
from that. And what was easily austin the most stressful
quarter of football I've ever watched?

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Was it more stressful than it was? Actually bad? Are
we overreacting a little bit?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
I don't think there's any overreaction to the defense. I
think that that is a business.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
That's fair. I think the stress came from Joe Burrow
running around, correct.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
And rightfully so loved what we saw from the offense.
They have scored four touchdowns on five preseason possessions as
the number one group. Now, Joe Burrow was on his
back a couple times last night. Lucas Patrick was doing
jumping jacks. I think at one point on the field
last night. We're we're into August, the latter part of August,

(01:55):
and we're talking now about Jalen Rivers didn't look bad
last night, right, Dalton Is there was coming in Let's go.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
He made a video and said who day in it?

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
I think he'll he'll sign for whatever they offer. He is, Uh, he's.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Right now, just left the Kenwood Mall food court. He's
heading down to the stadium. Hopefully Joe's there waiting to
offer him some What do you do with Orlando Brown?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
They had like cheese and crackers. Yeah, I think they
did cheese and crabe.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
They can go to a steakhouse, do something. Just don't
let the dude leave without a deal. Correct, We're gonna
all right, we're gonna dive, obviously deep into what last
night was. We'll do so for most of our Number one,
Let's get a couple of things also out here. Disappointing
end to the Cincinnati Open yesterday. Carlos Alcarez and Yannick

(02:46):
Sinner number one, verse number two. The crowd was amazing,
the atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately, Sinner had said he was
dealing with some kind of illness and as he was
down five to oh in the first set, he retired
from the match, meaning Carlos alto Or as your Cincinnati
Open winner. A couple additions that happened yesterday and starting

(03:07):
jobs that were won. Joe Flacco is the starter in
Cleveland for Week one. I wait to see what he
does against this defense. And uh, Matthew Judon is a
dolphin for six million dollars. Would you have given Matthew
Judon six million dollars to be a Bengal?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yes, I would have. I believe I would have.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Daniel Jones has been named the starter in Indie over
Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Uh huh.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
I don't have any other NFL news that doesn't relate
to the Bengals, which we'll get to. By the way, Uh,
did you see the video of the Fantasy football draft
where the gentlemen they do the draft where they actually
have to stick the name on the board. Did you
see this?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
I did.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yeah, I know what you're talking about. And once you're
you put your name up there, that's your pick. It
moves on to the next one. Apparently this gentleman wanted
to draft Bijon Robinson number one overall. Yeah, for Ununfortunately
put Brian Robinson Junior number one overall. Tough break for
him because Robinson set out the game last night under
a contract uncertainty for the Commanders. Also, we found out

(04:15):
last night Hendrickson's not going to budget his stand off
with the Cincinnati Bengals. We'll talk about Trey Hendrickson. College
Football's here. College football opens up the top twenty five
matchup on Saturday in the Big Twelve between Iowa State
and Kansas State. That game's in Dublin, Ireland. I don't
know why I said it like that. The game is
in Dublin, Ireland. So what I'm thinking here, the NFL

(04:41):
season is rapidly approaching. College football's back this weekend. Bearcats
open up a week from Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium. High
school football starts this weekend, and it led me to wonder, Austin,
are you any closer and your ongoing search for a
high school football team to root for here Cincinnati Northern
Kentucky area this season?

Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's it's I don't know how I pick anyone but
Mason right now. They're the only ones that have shown
interest in me.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
So is this like a is this like a Michelle
Smallman type thing where people got to kind of butter
you up a little bit, maybe send you some team gear.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I'm not asking for that, you know, but I just
why should I pick your if.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
You're out there listening right now?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
So far, the best reason Mason has given me to
pick their team is because they said, hey, you should
pick our team. Nobody else out there? I mean, I listen.
I understand I'm not a desirable person. Uh that's people
have made that very clear to me.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
But I just who should I root for? Who should
I pick?

Speaker 4 (05:41):
How about Williamsburg and reading in week one? Where's Williamsburg at?
I don't know, It's Williamsburg somewhere around like the I
would say, somewhere like out in the country. But then Darry,
that's our guy. Jules Juice is loose?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Is that him?

Speaker 4 (05:56):
I think?

Speaker 6 (05:56):
So?

Speaker 4 (05:57):
They take they traveled to Veterans Memorial Stadium Week one.
I don't know how reading is not on your list.
As good as the people of reading have been to you,
I don't know how reading is on your.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I mean there's been a lot of wonderful people.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
I mean I can get to deliver the game ball
Friday night at the VET.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
I think that should be you the.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
Can you tell Austin today why he should be a
fan of your high school? Why it's got to be
locally here too? Like what's your cutoff?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, it's got to be a Cincinnai area school.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Okay, you dip into northern Kentucky. Sure, Okay, Okay, I
guess all right. I don't mean that in a bad way,
say by no means but like Ohio high school football
has a special place in my heart.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
But yeah, no, we do Kentucky. I know Moe has
made the actually made the case for Scott so.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Lakota West Saint X tip off this week. They tip
off for they kick off the off this way scouldn't
be a big one too. We'll get into uh some
high school maybe later in the week. Won't be long
before we pick him again, pick him on Fridays.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I think we're gonna Are we gonna pick them Thursday
or Friday this week or are we gonna do it
this week or next week?

Speaker 4 (07:14):
I don't know what to see.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
We got a lot of high school game I'm not
here for, so you gotta figure it out. It might
be Thursday.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Last night Reds took game one of their West Coast trip.
They beat the Angels for one. Mets did not play
last night. For what it's worth, the Padres did lose
last night.

Speaker 7 (07:35):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
The Reds enter today one game back in the NL
Wild Card. Last night, Brady Singer was awesome. Brady Singer
worked six innings for the Reds. He went, I don't
even know how to equate Brady Singer because I feel

(07:57):
like there's two different Brady Singers we get at times,
the one last night. If he shows up down the stretch,
this team has a chance to make some noise. Six
inning and six hits. One run walked just about her
struck out four, and then Phillips, May and Barlow shut
the door. They allowed just two hits. They did allow
a couple base runners come.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Phillips, Luis May and Scott Barlow shut the door. Think
about what you just said.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Yeah, I wouldn't say shut the door completely because each
of them walked a batter and we know what walks
from relief pitchers do do. But Scott Barlow struck out
all four batters he faced, got himself a four out save.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
I think Scott Barlow is on the fast track to
be in a Red's Hall of Famer. This dude's a beast.
He pitches every night and he's gotten so good. I
love Scott Barlow.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
They got offense last night in the first from Gavin
luxhu holmert.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
How about that though run thank god.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
And then they did something that we have not seen
him do much of. They manufactured some runs with some
sackflies and Austin Hayes sackflyes scored Eli Da La Cruz
in the fifth, McClain hit a sackfly that scored Austin
Hayes or Key, Brian Hayes in the eighth, and the
Reds belt it out in the game. Austin eleven hits,
three of them were triples. Yeah, Austin Hayes, Key Brian Hayes,

(09:12):
Elie de la Cruz all tripled last night for the
Red Legs.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Red Legs.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
I did not get to see much of the game, obviously,
I was doing a post game yesterday. But I feel
like every time I don't watch, they do a lot better.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Multi hit night from Gavin Lux, Austin Hayes, and Noel A. Marte,
Travino Steer, Key Brian Hayes, Ellie Da la Cruz, and TJ.
Friedo all added a hit as well. Who's the best
hitter on the Reds right now? By Key Brian Hayes.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I think so.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
The answer is mart it is He's He's been so good.
What did Matt McClain do last night? Oh, he was
zero for three.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Okay, he did have a sack five.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
If you want to know where things are with Matt McClain,
he is now surpassed Key Brian Hayes as the ninth
Hohlle hitter on this team.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
How far like, when we are already start looking ahead
to the off season priorities for the oh oh and
the off season storylines that we'll touch on in December
and January, how far up on the list is Matt McClain.
Oh my gosh, so he was pretty far up this year.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Yeah. Can you imagine him and his agency who turned
down a deal from the Reds. Oh my god, I'll
never get that type of money again.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Get crawled. You're gonna come back and low ball you
this year, big boy.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
It is uh man, It's tough to watch the way
Matt McClain. He looked completely lost at the plate. He's
looked lost all year. He's not above two twenty now.
From about an average standpoint, it is uh. Again, it's
not easy to watch, and you can't put him anywhere else.
You can't. You can't put him any lower in the

(10:47):
lineup than what he is ninth right now. But yeah,
it's it's nova. Marte is right now the best hitter
this team has. LA showed a little bit. Did I
did I read because I I didn't catch much baseball
yesterday because I was looking so much at the Monday
night football game. Has Ellie been dealing with a little
bit of an injury?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, that came out over the weekend that Ellie is
uh basically been dealing with a quad injury.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, all summer long. So something to still watch for.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Which you know, that might make me feel a little
bit better about where the power is and or well,
where the power isn't for Ellie day La Cruz. But
uh yeah, that's something he's been dealing with apparently. If
you remember, Terry Francona said it earlier this year that
Ellie's got a leg, so we didn't know what exactly
what that meant. Turns out it was a quad.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
Last night, the latest installment of Key Brian Hayes wowing
at the hot corner made two really good plays, one
to start a double play and one that bounced off
Brady Singer's foot that he was able to bare hand
and throw out. I believe the Angels broadcast kind of
called him out for killing them. This guy's killing us,
but uh I man, Key Brian Hayes awesome. We I

(11:58):
think we made a lot of fuss about the deadline
and maybe not adding enough impact players. Key Brian Hayes
has hit since he got the Cincinnati and his glove
has been every bit as advertised. He's been awesome. Yeah,
he's getting better, So continue to watch what he's giving
this team on a day in, day out basis. They

(12:19):
look to take Game two and win another series when
they take on the Angels tonight and that win last night, Austin,
you know what that means, You get past another series
with a guarantee of not being swept. Whoao, what will
the size of the banner be that is printed in

(12:40):
this studio if they make the whole season without being swept?

Speaker 2 (12:42):
So I think that last night meant forty two consecutive
series without being swept. Has there ever been a more
pointless stat ever?

Speaker 4 (12:52):
They have after this series, which they've already not been
swept in, they have eleven series left on the year.
Can they make it? And would it be absolutely insane
for a team that never got swept on the year,
which means they never had a three or four game
losing streaker. More than that, wouldn't it be amazing if

(13:13):
that team didn't make the playoffs?

Speaker 2 (13:15):
That's what I'm saying. How could how could that be.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Possible to sit here on August nineteen and say, man,
this team has not been swept all.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Year because they lose a bunch of series. That's why.
That's the answer.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Terry Francono effect, I think. So we'll talk more about
Terry later in the show. We'll talk a little bit
more about this Reds team later in the show. We'll
welcome submissions for you to give Austin and why he
should root for your high school football team here in
the greater Cincinnati area. That's not a slight at Sydney. Sorry, Jackets.

(13:52):
I'm still on the jacket. He's on the jacket, still
the team. He's just got to be proximity here to
be able to get to some of those Friday night
football games here in Cincinnati. So we'll get to all
of that. Joe Daniman is going to join us at
one o'clock. Joe Goodberry is going to join us at
two o'clock.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Joe, Joe, Joe.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
We'll talk about what Joe Burrow did and what he
had to say last night, as well the Joe tri
effecta today on Cincy three sixty. We'll take your phone
calls five to one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
We're just getting started. Let's start with the good. Yes,
we're glass half full here today, Austin. When we get back,

(14:32):
we'll start with the good from last night's Bengals win
over Washington thirty one seventeen, a game in which they
covered the spread as well. So take with that what
you want. Cincy three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station, thanks to Skyline.

Speaker 8 (14:46):
Chile Hey Alexa, Cincinnati up seven, sprouting to throw, He's
gonna fire for the end zone.

Speaker 9 (14:56):
Tinsley comes down with the football. I'm saying touch drowning
to Tinsley for another touchdown twenty one yards. I'm back
to back offensive steps. Jake Browning throws a pair of
touchdowns to a former Washington commander, Mitch Tinsley.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
How about the tap tap? How about the footwork?

Speaker 10 (15:20):
First, let's talk about Browning making an unbelievable throw. I mean,
if you throw that ball one hundred times, you can't.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Throw it any better than that. Cotingionally make a play
on it.

Speaker 10 (15:30):
Then he goes up and makes a contested catch over
the defender, and then he tappap gets both feet down
and just like a ball arena, taps the ground to finalize.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
The officials raise the arms.

Speaker 11 (15:44):
Touchdown.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
A little tap top last night from Mitch Tinsley. What
a rise Mitchell Tinsley has had.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
What a beast man. You go think about going to
the ball club.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
I'm gonna say, like we have not talked about him
making this roster, and you fast forward last night in
the second half, Joe Burrow advocating for him to make
the roster, Like, what more of an endorsement do you
need if you're Mitchell Tinsley. Yeah, five catches, seventy three yards,
two touchdowns, did so against his former team, the Washington Commanders.
I saw it a point last night, like like three
hundred and eighty of his cards sold online last night

(16:19):
during the game alone, and I think leading up to
that it had been like six. Yeah, so Mitch Tinsley,
according to Joe Burrow, should make the roster.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Now, if you remember early on in training camp, there
was one of Joe's press conferences and he kind of
out of nowhere brought up Mitchell Tinsley and people were like, oh,
that's interesting, and kind of started paying a little bit
closer attention to him, and he just kept getting better
and better and better. Yeah, And now, I mean, I

(16:49):
think the six wide receivers are going to be Chase Higgins, Yoshavash,
Charlie Jones, who had a great night last night, Jermaine Burton.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
And I don't know how it's not After last night
you mentioned the good. It starts with Mitchell Tinsley. Charlie
Jones has had two great preseason games. Yeah, he has
solidified his spot on this roster without a doubt.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
The story of him. He had the surgery last year
and it didn't work. He had another one in April
and it seems to have worked and he has gotten
so much better.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
And you know a guy that Joe Burrow trusts. I
mean that touchdown pass last night. To throw that, I mean,
that's that's what we call a layered throw over one
set of defenders and then in between another set of defenders.
Good and throw it to Charlie Jones. That was awesome.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
So good man. The offense as a whole, first team
offense has had five preseason drives. They have scored touchdowns
on four of them. So you got to give it
up to the first team offense as well. The numbers
haven't been staggering. I thought Chase Brown showed a little
bit of the toughness last night, the tough yardage. I
think Chase Brown in two preseason games has been everything

(17:58):
that you want him to be. I have been impressed
with him. Jake Browne last night much better than he
was preseason game number one, and he did show behind
guys that could not protect him at all.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Look the lots sharper and I think the one thing
I would say too about Chase Brown is the Bengals
I felt like, and you can tell me what you saw,
but it felt like in the first two or three
drives they were working a lot on short yardage stuff like, yeah,
Burrow threw a deep ball to Chase they got the
PI on, but there was a lot of like short yardage,

(18:31):
quick hit, see how it goes, and then running the
ball in short yardage as well. Think about this, there
was twelve personnel in which Burrow was in the pistol
with Chase Brown as the deep back. They ran an
eye formation, motioned into a strong eye with Drew Sample
as the full back basically and ran power out of that.
How many times have they done that since Burrow's been here?

(18:52):
Never happens. The short pass to Tanner Hudson on third
and three in that opening drive that he ended up
dropping had a great play design down at the goal
line for Tanner Hudson where the Commanders made just a
good play and Chase Brown was effective and consistent in
short yardage running all the way up until that fourth

(19:15):
and goal as well, where he scored on a one
yard touchdown run. So that to me is encouraging from
the offense.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
I think a lot of it is the game plan
as well, to not ideally let Burrow take a lot
of hits. Sure we'll get to that on some of
the bad as well, But I thought Toz Brooks had
himself a solid night. I thought he flashed with a
couple run opportunities, a couple all the ones I wrote down.
Barrett Carter, nice interception from the linebacker. The Clemson draft

(19:41):
pick Tyson Anderson had a nice interception. The second defense
as a whole I thought had obviously a much better
night than the first team offense did for the Cincinnati Bengals.
No socks last night for the Bengals. Still find that
a little troubling that they have yet to be able
to put in any type of pressure on an opposing quarterback.

(20:03):
And then Evan McPherson. I thought Evan McPherson was really
good last night, made a fifty four yarder look pretty easy.
He's had a perfect camp to this point as well.
And how about this Austin Dylan Fairchild is now Pro
Football Focus is highest graded rookie offensive lineman through two
weeks of the preseason, edging out Gray's Abel. How about this,

(20:26):
it's preseason. But again, if you talk about the offensive line,
and I know there's a lot of questions, Dylan Fairchild
has looked really good in two preseason opportunities. I agree
that is a good start for the guard from Georgia.
The bad I don't even know where to start. Lucas

(20:47):
Patrick was bad last night. The effort that Jordan Battle
gave on the touchdown run by Jaden Daniels I thought
was in barts. I mean, it looked like he wanted
no part of the physicality of that play. The play
of the linebackers I mentioned. I messaged you last night

(21:10):
with this, Austin. I don't think Logan Wilson had a
good night. Demetrius Knight seemed out of position all night
on a lot of those big runs, and the linebacking
group as a whole I thought just looked slow.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
I agree, and it did feel like to me that
Demetrius Knight was out of position. And I think back
to that one big run that they had, I think
on their second drive that long touchdown run that was
just out of position and slow from Demetrius Knight Junior.
That's really it's all. I was going to be projected

(21:42):
to start for this team. He is, and you know
it's part of it is the growing pains of trying
to figure out how to do this. And I understand that,
not trying to overreact to it, but you just said it.
He's supposed to be the starting linebacker here in a
couple of weeks.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
They did not ask Jayden Daniels to put the ball
in the air, nor did he need to. They gashed
the Bengals all night on the ground, especially the first
team defense for the Cincinnati Bengals. I put bad as
the defense as a whole. It's such a concern right now.
I don't know. I was thinking about this last night, Austin.

(22:17):
I don't even know how much Trey Hendrickson by himself
can help this defense. Now, Like I'm almost to the
point of, like do you pay a bunch of money
to Trey or do you go try to like sign
another go get Dalton Risner who's visiting today, and try
to spend the money and divvy it up to maybe
find some guys that as a unit can be more disruptive.

(22:37):
I just don't know if the defense as bad as
it's been through two preseason games. And I don't agree
with Zach Taylor kind of pushing to practice as a
reason to be optimistic about the defense. They've been bad.
I use the term yesterday dog walked in both preseason games. Now,
I don't know how you can look at that side
of the ball knowing now that you're probably not going

(22:59):
to see a lot of those guys on Saturday and
have confidence going into the season.

Speaker 12 (23:02):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
I mean that is a massive, massive question mark for
this team, but perhaps no bigger question mark than what
Joe Burrow was doing in the game yesterday when Jamar,
Chase t Higgins and Chase Brown were out of the game. Now,
I get wanting to get some reps with some different guys,

(23:24):
but when you started to realize that those guys were
having a little bit more trouble getting open, which causes
Joe Burrow to hold onto the ball more, I don't
really know what you were getting out of having Joe
Burrow run around in the pocket. And again I've listened
to the arguments I've heard, well, he should throw the

(23:44):
ball away. He shouldn't hold on to it. His nature
as a playmaker, your instincts kick in and you're trying
to make it play. The last thing you think about
is just throwing the ball away and giving up on
a play. But when you're seeing as Ted Carris put it,
the hopes and dreams of the franchise, running for his life,
and there are multiple linemen that have just already given

(24:05):
up on the play, it's not a great look to
be had. It's not great when you offer five linemen
in protection and then put a running back and a
tight end on each side of the tackle to chip
the opposing defenders, and three defenders still get home against
essentially a seven man protection. That is terrifying. Watching Burrow

(24:29):
scramble backwards is terrifying. Watch him being tackled by his collar,
a horse collar on that football field is terrifying. Watching
the game come back from break from the first quarter
of the second and seeing Joe Burrow still standing out
there was terrifying.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
It was.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
The most stressful quarter of a preseason game I've ever watched.
The defense stunk, and it was so stressful watching Joe
Burrow move around because you know what he means to
this team. I'm glad last night is over, and I'm
glad we're at the point we're at now. I don't
want to see him again till Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
And even then, it seemed like he wasn't totally out
on the idea of playing against Indianapolis. No, that's what
it sounded like after the game, and I hope that
there's Listen, they turn around and play Saturday.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
That's no fly back last night today. I don't know
what practice you'll get tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
There's no need for that.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
Nope, can't do it.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
And I think part of the reason the guy like
desmon Ridder didn't play is because he's going to play
the whole game against the Colts. But still, yeah, he's
gotten He threw what is it, fifty snaps something this year,
more than he's had in the last five years of
his preseason career. Yep, we don't need to see him.

(25:56):
I understand his point and what he's trying to do
and what he's trying to accomplish, and I appreciate that.
I think you've accomplished it. I think you've gotten it done.
There was a point last night where I couldn't help myself,
but say, okay, what exactly are we accomplishing here? What
are we getting done? Because if you want to get
snaps with guys that are not the typical starters, Chase Higgins,

(26:17):
Chase Brown, those guys, Mikeoseki all not in the game,
that's fine. I understand that. That makes sense to me.
And Joe said that after the game, like we have
had to play games without those guys before. I want
those reps with the second group. That's fine. I agree
with that, but you see what happens when those guys
can't get open and Joe is essentially a sitting duck

(26:38):
in the pocket. And there were times where it felt
like the rhythm and the play call the ball was
supposed to be out before those guys got to Joe Burrow,
but because those other receivers weren't getting open, he had
to hold on to it a little bit longer, and
then he starts running around and dancing around, and who
knows what can happen after that. So it got to
a point where it was like, Okay, I get your

(26:59):
point here, but this isn't helping, it's not working. Let's
can it and move on. And I was shocked by
how long he played. I did not care about the outcome.
I did not care. And he did eventually get something
moving and completed five or six passes in a row. Cool,
and then he came back out again. Yep, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
I couldn't believe when he came back out for the
third series after what we watched in the second series.
I mean, they're on the call last night saying, Joe,
go down, it's Augusta. What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (27:30):
What do we think? What do you what do you
think goes through Zach Taylor's mind.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
I don't know. I don't know because he sent him
back out there.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
You know, Moe always talks about how Joe Burrow is
the Bengals team president. That to me was just indicative
of the power that Burrow has. And it was just
Zach Taylor basically saying, okays, you gotta sit down. And
who was I think it was Jason Kelcey during halftime
said some times you got to protect guys from themselves. Correct,

(28:02):
And that's I like what you felt like. That's what
it felt like to me too. Yeah, where Zach needed
to step in and say, okay, listen.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
We're not doing this.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
This isn't. Yeah, we're not.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
No the good and bad from last night. We'll get
in more of that with Joe Danaman and Joe Goodberry
this afternoon. Plenty more on the Bengals when we come back.
Let's open up the phone lines for the first time today,
five seven, fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Can I give you one more good?

Speaker 4 (28:24):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Braylan Lux okay. I thought Braylan Lux played pretty well.
Not Gavin Lux. Oh, Braylen Lucks Okay, looked pretty good.
I want to ask Joe Goodberry about him as well.
I know he had tweeted about Brayln Lux. Looked pretty solid.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
A couple of solo tackles last night, defended a couple passes.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Yeah, it looked good in the slot, moved really well.
I thought that's a name to keep an eye on.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
Good.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
More for good Barry, more for Danaman, more for us
your phone calls next the ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.
Thanks to Skyline Chile.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Loeggar, players are allowed to have bad games.

Speaker 13 (28:55):
He's a man with a one track mind.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Good players are allowed to have bad games.

Speaker 13 (29:00):
I say, uh, sports track mind. It happens Moegar today
at three on ESPN fifteen.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Thirty Big league players aren't the only.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
Oh Boy welcome back SINCEY three sixty thanks to Skyline Chili.
You know it's football season Austin when we've got a
full set of phone lines. Oh my gosh, everyone wants
to talk. This is awesome. Let's see who we can
talk to. Let's see how many of these we can
get in. Where do you want to go first? I
got to go to the top of the line here,
Oh with my father. Let's call has called out, And

(29:38):
I understand Dad that you have something you want to
get off your chest here.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
Yeah, I do.

Speaker 12 (29:44):
Okay, I missed the first miss the first twenty minutes
of your show, so I'm going to know exactly if
I'm going to be having you guys repeat. But anyhow,
I want to call out Tony Pike, Moegar Zach Taylor
because Tony, there's this huge, huge, huge disconnect from your

(30:06):
guys's uh Bengals Daily reports.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yeah, you guys have said multiple.

Speaker 12 (30:13):
Times, dang, this defense looks good. This is a great
day for the defense, and defense played great. That doesn't translate, buddy,
to what I'm seeing on TV.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
Did you not hear what Zach said last night. It's
not about just the games. They've had good practices they're
competing in.

Speaker 12 (30:31):
Yeah, they're they're really good in practice. We know where
that's I mean, there's our I mean our offensive line.
Is is it really that bad? Where this sucking defense
looks great?

Speaker 4 (30:42):
If you go watch a Gongals practice, you would think
that this is the steel curtain on the defensive side.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Of the ball, the way they like Bears, like eighty
five Bears to hear you guys talk about it, and
then it doesn't.

Speaker 12 (30:54):
Translate in real life. And so I'm saying, by god,
is our offensive line that bad?

Speaker 2 (30:59):
The way these guys make look.

Speaker 12 (31:00):
Make them look like world changers. So yeah, the whole
game last night, I was just thinking Tony Pike Moegar, Oh, you.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
Guys, I don't know what to trust anymore?

Speaker 2 (31:10):
Defense?

Speaker 14 (31:11):
What that?

Speaker 4 (31:12):
I can't even trust my own mind anymore.

Speaker 12 (31:15):
I know, I'm you know, we're all in this thing together,
But I'm just like, oh my god, can we trade
Trey for at least a couple of offensive linemen.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
At this point? At this point, I don't think Trey
helps this defense enough. I would I would get as
much in return as possible That's what I was about
to say.

Speaker 12 (31:35):
That's what Troy Aikman and Joe Buck was talking about,
like last night, how we need treyil defense. Trey couldn't
stop my grandmother from gaining in ten yards.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
So he's not.

Speaker 12 (31:46):
So that's not going to fix the problem. I mean
when they're gashing this for twelve thirteen, fourteen yards. Yeah, yeah,
oh my goodness.

Speaker 14 (31:54):
After the first I'm very frustrated.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
After the first two drives last night, the Commanders were
averaging seventeen point seven yards per carry.

Speaker 12 (32:02):
Decent, decent, Yeah, so I mean our boy. I mean,
it's not Al's fault, but you know, Al's got him
in mid season form when the first two weeks of
the preseason. But anyhow, I just wanted to get that
off my check.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Thank you, Soil, that's your fault. You're in pre season form.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
I appreciate you blaming Tony and no, thank you.

Speaker 12 (32:23):
Why am not blaming them?

Speaker 15 (32:25):
You have a tendency, well we have a tendency.

Speaker 12 (32:28):
To look through rose colored glasses, you know, and then
reality hits us, you know anywho's gentlemen.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Thank you Dad. You know I worried last night and
watching Reality hits us in the a gap. It hit
me and MO discussed it last week. We've talked about it.
They legitimately thought the personnel was where it needs to be.
They they put blame on the coaching staff. And I
don't know how you can watch that last night and
think that the personnel on defense can compete in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
I could, and I have said it on the air
many times. I could see and understand what they were
saying and what they were trying to do. But after
two weeks of training camp, in two preseason games, it's
become incredibly apparent that this isn't good enough. It didn't work.
The plan already you can tell hasn't worked, and you cannot,

(33:19):
I think, in one hand, say you want to start
fast and on the other hand, take the approach you
did to building the defense. Those two things don't go
in the same directions as far as I'm concerned.

Speaker 4 (33:34):
Yeah, Demetrius Not I believe is the sixth lowest graded
defensive player drafted.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
He had a bad night. Yes, he had a bad night.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
Had a bad night, And it's obviously something you got
to watch because they don't have much build in at
that linebacker position as.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
It is but if you think on a couple of those
types of plays where they're the guard tackle trap or
the guard tackle counter or whatever it is that the
Commanders ran team see that on film. Oh, Demetrius Knight
is four or five yards deep in his set, we're
gonna run this, or hey, he's slow to get to
the point of attack. Here's how we'll get to that

(34:11):
play and run that over and over again and then
build something off of it. Be based off that, like
you can run an entire set of plays off of
one defender and how bad they are at a particular thing.
So hopefully Demetrius Knight gets that figured out and understands, Okay,
here's what I did wrong. Here's how I have to
be better. And also hopefully Al Golden can say, okay,

(34:34):
let me put Demetrius Knight in a better position. Or
maybe it means in this week or in the game
against Indianapolis, where Barrett Carter gets more of an opportunity,
where or In Burks gets more of an opportunity, especial.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
Twenty five year old in the second round. You're you're
counting on the experience to help in it. Right, it
looks like he's a little bit behind right now? What's up, Maso?

Speaker 14 (34:55):
What's going on?

Speaker 5 (34:56):
Boys?

Speaker 15 (34:56):
Happy Tuesday?

Speaker 5 (34:57):
You too doing?

Speaker 4 (34:58):
How you doing?

Speaker 7 (34:59):
H good?

Speaker 5 (35:00):
I'm gonna piggyback off Phil Tom Which is worse the
Bengals defense or that Sunday basketball down at even Dale.

Speaker 4 (35:08):
Holy Josh, it was what we witnessed in Sunday basketball
this week might have been worse than the Bengals defense
last night.

Speaker 16 (35:16):
I was not saying to fill in the game before
there's like fifty seconds left, there's five miss free.

Speaker 5 (35:24):
Throws by a team that's up to the referee doesn't
start the clock on time. He just it's it was
a dumpster fire down there, and it's good.

Speaker 7 (35:36):
Defense.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
I was about to say, it goes right in line
anyway with the cues today. We took the day off
yesterday because of the scheduling. Sure, but let's let's get
back on track. So we got better music. Queen or
Queen Latifa?

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Oh man, this that's Queen easy. Yeah, it's not even
close me.

Speaker 5 (35:57):
So that's going I mean, that's what I was thinking too.
But but there might be some people out there that
like Queen Latifa.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Man, I couldn't tell hers, uh unify that I couldn't
tell you. That sounds like Austin trying to figure out
a movie.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
Well, well, all right, so let's get to a better one,
A better college basketball player. Quentin Grimes or Quinton Richardson,
both Bearcat killers.

Speaker 4 (36:31):
I would say Richardson just because I think he had
a little bit more success moving forward, although Grinds with
Houston literally was a thorn in the side. But I'll
go Richardson on that one.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
I don't know who either of those guys are.

Speaker 17 (36:42):
Surprise, surprise, all right, Dottie, I don't know how to
end this call.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
I think it's rich.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
I Jason Richardson was a beast that much.

Speaker 5 (36:56):
Quentin Grimes, he played for Houston. Quinton Richardson at Paul
when De Paul was was good. Luckily the Bearcats usually
got the best of them because we had Kenyon back
in the day. But yeah, I think I would go
Richardson as well tone he had the better stats, although Grime,

(37:17):
you know, had a better team around him.

Speaker 12 (37:20):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
Thanks, nice guys, Bye bye. I remember Quentin Richardson Now
I just looked he said, Queen or Queen Latifa? John,
help us out, man, what's up?

Speaker 16 (37:31):
You know what the guy mentioned yesterday Austin I think
is better than them all. Quinton Nelson is the guy
I want to see the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
Yeah, I'm in. I'm in.

Speaker 12 (37:41):
Yeah, let's do that.

Speaker 16 (37:43):
I mean, come on, you know we got a dream
big right, we get that offensive line straighten up and
who cares what the defense is? Your win games fifty
to forty two? Last that was interesting. I'm right with you, guys.
I'm watching the third series going, what is Joe Borrow
doing out here? I know he is ultra competitive, he
want the reps, but you know, we know he can play.
We don't have to find out more about him. And

(38:05):
all he had these flashbacks were Rogers Stawback. I'm quite
a bit older than you guys. Well maybe not quite
a bit older, but I'm older than you guys. Rogers
Stawbacks used to do that. He would do the curly
shuffle backwards in the pocket, run around, spin around, But
he had fat guys who smoked cigarettes chasing him. They'll
both got guys like Miles Garrett, TJ. Watt who are
like lions and tigers hunting prey. I mean it's a

(38:27):
little bit different right now. The horse caller was so
aren't scary, But I mean he looks fine. They're going
to be fine on the.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
Offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 16 (38:34):
You've heard the bass Scott Peters, the offensive line coach. Well,
I want bath Jerry Montgomery. And again their connection is
that they both are on that marvelous New England Patriots
coaching staff of last year, which most of the guys
on that staff are unemployed right now, including the head coach,
girod Bo. Somehow the Bengals came to the rescue of
both of those guys that employed them now, although I

(38:56):
think the Patriots are paying those guys, and I think
the Browns are still paying Peters, and I think the
Packers are still paying Montgomery. Look, before Borrow came along,
Aaron Rodgers was my guy, and I still have like
nightmares as this one to nineteen NFC Championship game when
the Packers gave up about eleven yards per carry against
the forty nine Ers, and Jerry Montgomery was a defensive

(39:17):
line coach. So he's like suggestion. Guys, we heard last
night for the second time that Joe went in and
coached up the defensive back they're playing quite well. Got
to get Joe into the defensive line room and let
him coach up the defensive line.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
Player coach?

Speaker 16 (39:29):
Why not player coach president? I think he flew the
plane to Washington on Sunday. I mean, just what the
guy whoever? He's obviously a multi passer.

Speaker 4 (39:38):
I wonder at this point if you just let him
score quicker so that you get more possessions on offense,
maybe you can start refining your two point conversions, because
the last thing you want is teams to be able
to go on like twelve and fifteen play drives, take
up half a quarter and get you know, seven yards
per carry on the ground. That to me again, if
I'm playing the Bengals ball control because they can't stop

(39:58):
anything from the run stand point, and try to get
home with three or four and drop seven or eight
and try to force field goals, I don't think.

Speaker 15 (40:06):
What I would do.

Speaker 16 (40:07):
Yeah, just maybe on side kicks.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
Yeah, let's trust I'm right, John, I'm in. I'm in
for any and all ideas at this point to how
to help the defense.

Speaker 16 (40:16):
All right, Fellas we solved all that issue and great
topic weekend with raising the money from Roman. Thank you
John being being an Italian American and my grandparents came
from Rome back over one hundred years ago. The name
Roman really touched me. So he's adorable and he's going
to be just fine.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
Thank you, John, I appreciate the words, and thanks for
the call anytime. All right, let's get a let's get
a break in. We'll see if we can fit one
more one or two of these calls in when we
get back, before we get to our good friend Austin.
Joe Danemon, Yes, kick things off at one o'clock. Another
call or to next ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station
thanks to Skyline Chile. Welcome back since he three to

(40:57):
sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati station. Thanks to Skyline Chile,
and thank you for the reminder of how great the
day after a Bengals game is when so many people
want to talk about what they witnessed last night on
the football field. A call or two will wrap these.
We'll get to Joe Daneman. Mike is calling in. What's up, Mike?

Speaker 14 (41:17):
Hey, those quite a night of local sports last night.
Absolutely yeah, I was really loving it. And baseball just
keeps getting more interesting by the day, so at least
it's holding everybody's interest even if you're not a Reds fan,
like you know, I like all of so I'm into
all these Pennant races and stuff. But the Reds doing

(41:39):
what they're doing is sure better than what they have done,
so we'll take it right.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
Yeah, And we're coming up on what I think is
the worst time before the football season because the final
preseason game happens on Saturday for the Bengals, and then
you've got this weight until September seventh. You go from
the twenty third of August to September seventh before their
back on the football field. At least now you can
focus on an actual playoff race for the Cincinnati Reds

(42:07):
and what they're doing in the National League wild Card.

Speaker 5 (42:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (42:10):
Plus and then plus he's got a triple header of
college football Saturday. How awesome is that?

Speaker 4 (42:14):
Doesn't get any better?

Speaker 14 (42:16):
It doesn't get.

Speaker 15 (42:17):
Any better, But boy, that defense has got to get better.

Speaker 14 (42:19):
Brother it choose by the second stringer Swiss Chiefs, I
am u. I mean it's bad, dude. They better, you know,
and they better quit scoring so quickly. I mean it's
incredible how fast they can score. But their defense is
never gonna get off. That'll be even worse if the
Bengals keep scoring. So but they're gonna have to score
a lot to stay in these games.

Speaker 7 (42:40):
So what do you do?

Speaker 4 (42:41):
Yeah, I don't think you can sacrifice how good you
are on the offensive side of the ball and try
to make up for how bad the defense is. I mean,
it took Washington seven plays to go over what almost
one hundred and twenty yards for them to have a
fourteen to seven lead. They they did. They scored fast

(43:02):
as well, but they didn't try to do anything except
line up and punch you in the mouth. That's the difference.
The Bengals aired out, They spread you out. They let
Joe Burrow kind of go to work. Washington last night
essentially said we're gonna line up and we're gonna run
the ball, and we're gonna see if they can do
anything about it. And for the second week in a
row in the preseason, they got absolutely dominated in the

(43:23):
front seven on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 14 (43:26):
Yeah, it was embarrassing. Ton And what's the latest on Hendrickson.
I keep getting lost in the shuffle with this guy.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
You know, if if you follow along to kind of
where the Bengals put it that they're they're shopping him around.
They're open to listen to trades. The asking price may
have come down a little bit. But I listened during
the game last night, and I don't envision Trey Hendrickson
coming off his stance at this point either. So you
have the Bengals who are dug in, and as of

(43:52):
last night, Hendrickson's not budging in his standoff. I don't
know what the end is here. I always thought that
Cleveland would come, he would sign the contract this week.
I'm not so sure of that anymore.

Speaker 14 (44:04):
And Washington's in a fix too without McClure. And who's
he gonna throw to?

Speaker 4 (44:08):
Yeah, it's well last They'll just run the ball. That's
obviously the best running attack in football.

Speaker 14 (44:17):
On that note, you left me laughing. You guys take
it easier than.

Speaker 4 (44:20):
You might appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
The best tweet I saw last night, I think, was
from Caleb no who said the Bengals have the best offense,
or is the only offense better than the Bengals is
whoever they're playing?

Speaker 4 (44:31):
Yep, yep it is. Uh, what what do you make
because I think I saw you you say something about
this on social Do you still believe that Week one,
Trey Hendrickson's in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
Not right now, No, I don't.

Speaker 4 (44:44):
Yeah, it feels different, Yeah, it feels a little bit different.
We will try to get back to some phone calls
as the show goes on. We have to break because
we got our guy, Joe Daniman standing by from Fox
nineteen at since he three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 7 (45:00):
You see Ky Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (45:01):

radio and on the free, new and improved iHeartRadio app.
Free never sounded so good ESPN fifteen.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Thirty if you're fifty five or older and into that
whole saving money.

Speaker 1 (45:14):
Cincy three sixty About Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part
by Cinci Shirts. Cinci Shirts All Cincy, all Day. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 4 (45:28):
We're back. It's our number two thanks to Cinci Shirts.
We've got talkbacks coming up in just a bit, our
best talkback of the week. We'll vote on at the
end of the week and give away a Cinci Shirts
gift card. But let's not waste any more time. Let's
get right to it. Their coverage of the Cincinnati Bengals
absolutely unbelievable all over the map. They also cover high

(45:50):
school football better than anyone. You're gonna find coverage of
the Reds and so much more. Our guy, Joe Daniman
is a part of it all, and he's nice enough
to join us here on Tuesdays as he does right now.

Speaker 7 (45:59):
Hij So, Tony, if Redding wasn't one of our choices
for a game of the week, unreal, which it wasn't,
I know, did you vote? Who'd you vote for?

Speaker 4 (46:11):
Uh? Lakota Weston say.

Speaker 7 (46:12):
X, Yeah, that's gonna run away with it yet a
lot of.

Speaker 2 (46:16):
Star power, a lot of star power.

Speaker 4 (46:18):
But I assumed I assumed you know cash Horny My
got cash at cubcass. He comes in at at the
what I believe, number five for you.

Speaker 7 (46:27):
Guys, number five in the top nineteen one of three
quarterback ye in our top five of the top nineteen seniors.
You'll see the other two. But I'm guessing you can
figure out at least one of those players who's going
to be in our top five of our nineteen seniors,
no doubt.

Speaker 4 (46:44):
So how many how many from your guys team will
be out reading on Friday night at.

Speaker 7 (46:50):
Least one, Okay, at least one. Yes, we will. We
will be their tone to make sure you see the
highlights when you're bullied up at the bar at.

Speaker 4 (46:59):
Augie making sure.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
I can't remember who I voted for. I didn't vote
for the Big Game and I didn't vote for reading.
What were the other options? I know I voted for something.

Speaker 7 (47:09):
How about Cooper Anderson, which is two teams who finished
state runner up last year? Or Baden and Hamilton.

Speaker 2 (47:16):
Yeah, that's who I voted Hamilton.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
There he is.

Speaker 2 (47:19):
Yeah, I voted for Hamilton and Baden.

Speaker 7 (47:21):
Yeah, out of baby Audie.

Speaker 4 (47:24):
I gotta ask Joe. We're going to try to start
with the positives. What what is your biggest positive takeaway
from last night's Bengals win over the Commanders.

Speaker 7 (47:35):
Evan McPherson made.

Speaker 4 (47:38):
Let's go, let's not last listen.

Speaker 7 (47:41):
Haven't we sat here and talked all off season about
the importance of him being a weapon for this team
and him consistently baking fifty plus yarders when he's doing
that to bangled there a different team. Yes, there's no
doubt that's a positive. Certainly, Jake Browning had not looked
good in the preseason, had not had a training camp.
That was something you would want to write home about.

(48:02):
But I thought he performed much better last night, again
doing Fairchild take steps to prove once again that it's
his spot and there's no questioning it, And I think
the Bengals made the right pick with him. I like
the usage of Chase Brown over the two preseason games
and the amount of touches. The way he punched the
ball in at the one yard line showed some toughness,

(48:25):
showed some strength, showed some grit to punch that ball
in at the goal line. Because we know short yardage
running hasn't been a strength of this team in recent years.
So there are things to walk away from the game.
Most importantly, Joe Burrow is alive in one piece after
I still don't know what that was. He came back

(48:46):
for that last drive and I was just sitting here
saying to myself, I don't know what they're trying to accomplish.
You know, after the fact, Joe comes in and says
he wants to get work in with some of the
younger guys on the skill position area. They couldn't get
open and it almost cost the Bengals. Yeah, the season well,

(49:07):
with Joe running around, everybody yelling Joe, just just throw
the ball anywhere. Throw it at a defender, just hand
him the ball. I wanted Joe Burrow when he was
running back, when he took the seventeen yard sack, just
went out of the back of the end zone. Just
take the safety, give it to.

Speaker 4 (49:23):
Give the ball to one of the linemen that we're
standing around to.

Speaker 7 (49:26):
Give it to him. Do whatever you gotta do. Just
get to week one healthy, and I think the Bengals
have accomplished that.

Speaker 15 (49:32):
At least.

Speaker 4 (49:35):
Charlie Jones has had a really good camp. Did Mitchell
Tinsley make this roster last night?

Speaker 7 (49:40):
Well, a lot of the people who do the roster
gymnastics say that, yes, Mitchell Tinsley has made the roster.
And I found it funny that Joe was talking about
some of the younger guys and he referenced to Mitchell Tinsley.
Mitchell Tinsley's twenty five. He's got an amazing story of
where where he's come from. He started out in the
community college and then he went to Western Kentucky, then

(50:01):
finally got his shot at the big time at Penn State.
Was an undracted free agent who went to Washington and
now shows up on Monday Nights Football and goes full
Megatron on his former team, catching two touchdowns that required
a lot of athletic ability, high pointing the football, getting
his feet down, making plays. That was exciting and fun

(50:22):
to see a guy get a chance like that on
a night he was also a captain going out to
midfield to represent the Bengals on Monday Nights Football. But
the people who do the roster gymnastics closer than I do,
believe that he will be the number six wide receiver.
I still think it's probably going to come down to
a decision on one extra wide receiver or one extra

(50:44):
tight end, and the Bengals are going to have to
make a hard decision with that going forward. But certainly
Charlie Jones, with what he does in special teams and
then him showing up last night and making some plays
has solidified his spot. And then Mitchell Tinsley making plays
is now going to make a hard for the Bangles
to cut him, because if he does get cut, he's
gonna end up somewhere making plays.

Speaker 4 (51:06):
You know, you mentioned Joe Burrow wanting to get work
in with some of the younger guys. Zach Taylor kind
of alluded to practice when asked about the defense and
talked about how good the defense has been at times
at practice. It would feel a little easier to me
if Joe Burrow took practice reps to work with those
guys in a controlled setting, because like you, when Chase

(51:28):
Brown and Jamar Chase and t Higgins are out of
the game and then you, okay, run it back for
a series, but you could tell during that series that
the guys just weren't getting the separation that Joe needed,
and then you run it back out there again. I
don't know, Joe, that I've ever been more nervous in
watching a preseason football game than I was with how
we watched that last night, because, as Ted Carras said,

(51:50):
Joe Burrow is the hopes and dreams of this team,
and if those go out the window in a meaningless
preseason game with none of the other skill guys around him,
that would have been a disaster.

Speaker 7 (52:01):
It's an unforgivable and it would have followed Zach Taylor
the rest of this season, in a season that his
seat is already a bit warm here in Cincinnati. And
so I was joking that it would have been hilarious
if about two plays into that drive where Joe was
out there with the backup skill players, if Zach Tambill
just went out like Terry Francona and was just, you know,

(52:23):
pointing to his right arm as he was walking to
the huddle for kicks to come out of the bullpen
and just take the football from Joe Burrow and say
you're done. That's that's it, it's over. And we've all
said this before, right with professional athletes, sometimes you have
to protect him against themselves. And we've been around Joe

(52:43):
Burrow long enough now here, and we listened to him
long enough to understand the kind of competitor he is
and the kind of work he wants, and he likes
to be hit, and he wants to play football, and
he wanted it for himself. But at some point a
coach has to step in and say, now, wait a minute,
it's the risk versus the reward here. It is not

(53:04):
worth it because the entire season is relying upon Joe
Burrow's health. And that's just we could talk about Jake
Browning had a nice game and played better, but if
Joe Burrow goes down. The season's over. I mean, the
the Bengals can still play competitive football with Jake Browning
considering the weapons they have, but we all get it.

(53:25):
If Burrow's not out there, this team cannot accomplish what
they want to accomplish. He's the most important person of
the building. He's the most important athlete in this city.
And what we were watching on that last drive last
night just felt to me like it was unnecessary. I
think that's the word I was landing on. It just
kind of felt unnecessary. Joe got everything he needed from

(53:48):
this preseason in the first couple of drives against the
Eagles and against the Commanders. They were playing with fire.
They got away with it even if Joe wanted it.
Somebody had to step in and protect Joe from himself.
The good thing is it's over now, and I cannot
imagine a scenario where he plays on Saturday against the Colts.

Speaker 4 (54:08):
I can't imagine a scenario as well where you can
let Dalton Reisner leave Cincinnati today. I mean, with what
we've seen from an offensive line point of view, can
you let him leave Cincinnati without a deal in place?

Speaker 7 (54:22):
Well, I mean it's August nineteen, so you're not going
to go out and find someone you're not. Every NFL
team needs help on the offensive line. We get that
at this point. So if a guy's still available on
August nineteenth, he's probably not the perfect fix to come
in here and be the final infinity stone to make
the Bengals hole an offense and the best offense in

(54:44):
the NFL. But but can he be better? Is he
a better option? Does his profile at least as his
strengths and weaknesses help this team. I mean, his profile
says that Dalton Reisner is a great pass blocking guard,
not a great run blocking guard, and one of the
Bengals need more than anything, They need people that can
keep Joe Burrow healthy. So he's probably a better option

(55:07):
right now than what the Bengals have. Certainly, Lucas Patrick
has not shown well in games. I sure hope that
that Lucas Patrick's lasting image in Cincinnati isn't him putting
his arms up as Joe Burrow's running around for his
life in Washington on Monday Night Football. But to your point,

(55:29):
Dalton Reisner, if he's interested in signing here and the
money is right, he has to be a better option
than what they have right now. Even if he's not
the perfect option, I think anybody would tell you that
they need something better than what they're getting from right
guard right now, because right now Lucas Patrick is not
giving them what they need and it's pretty glaring. You

(55:51):
don't even have to throw on the All twenty two.
You can just watch the game on television and see
the moments where Lucas Patrick is is called chaos in
the backfield for the quarterbacks. So Joe Burrow needs to
go out what take them them the precincts or get
the cheese and crackers ready, whatever it takes to keep
Dalton Reisner in Cincinnati and signing a deal, because I

(56:12):
do think even though he's not the perfect candidate, because
it's August nineteenth and he hasn't been signed by anybody,
so he's obviously someone who comes with some wartz, but
he has to be better than what we've seen so
far from right guard during the preseason games.

Speaker 2 (56:26):
We often talk about complimentary football in the National Football League.
When the Bengals defense is as porous as it appears
to be, do you think Zach Taylor will adjust the
way he calls games and not necessarily to get entirely
away from the identity of his team. But do you
think that he should change the way he approaches the

(56:49):
offense just to keep his defense off the field a
little bit.

Speaker 7 (56:53):
I think it's an interesting thought and certainly one that
people like us would discuss. I just don't think so
once you get into a game, when you have such
explosive players that that you can dial it back and
take your foot off the gas of what makes you successful.
This is this is always going to be a pass

(57:14):
heavy team from what they've invested in. And while I
think it's a good thought, I just don't think you
can change the identity of who you are to protect
yourself from what's on the other side of the football. Sure,
certainly there there can be ideas and discussion points on

(57:36):
just that, But I just don't think they're built to
do that, not with the personnel. And we we've we've
criticized that before, right of taking the ball out of
Joe's hands, right, and it hasn't gone well when when
they've done that, And I think you have to maintain

(57:58):
the identity of who you are offensively. But but certainly
there are situational moments in the NFL is so much
about situational football and the ideas of fourth quarter and
play and keep away, holding onto the ball and formnutive
offense and two minuted offense and all these important things
that that's kind of situational football, Austin. I think that

(58:21):
might be an area where you start looking at this
team maybe deciding that, listen, we have to do things
a little bit different to protect our defense, because you've
seen it before. I mean, team teams are able to
do that. I just don't know if the Bengals are
equipped to do that offensively with their personnel in their

(58:41):
style of run game. So yeah, I think the the
easy answer is it's hard to do for this team
considering their identity and the way they're built on offense.
But I also think situationally, it has to be a
discussion point for this team to be successful and to
win games, because that's what it comes down to. You know,
the Baglans can talk about having the best passing offense

(59:02):
in the world, and they take a lot of pride
in that they've said that openly before without even being
asked about it, that that's what they want to be,
that's what they want their identity to be. But also
at the same time, it's about winning games. And if
winning games is getting first downs and chewing clock in
the fourth quarter, that that certainly has to be a
situational football conversation that the coaches need to have.

Speaker 4 (59:25):
You know, I watched last night and they get bludgeoned
on the ground by the Washington Commanders, much like they
did against Philly. Demitrius Knight looked out of position. I
thought Logan Wilson had a rough night. You can make
the case that Jordan Battle wanted no part of trying
to tackle Jayden Daniels as he ran into the end
zone and did so standing up. What do you make

(59:47):
at this point, Joe, of where this defense is because
I don't even know at this point, and we'll talk
about Trey Hendrickson in a moment. I don't know how
much Trey Hendrickson changes who this defense is. We've seen
two opportunities. They have failed both in all likelihood. The
next chance we get is going to be in Cleveland.
I don't know how you can build any confidence around

(01:00:09):
what we've seen in this defense up to this point.

Speaker 7 (01:00:13):
So here's my take on this, And I think it's
easy to hop on the phone here and talk to
you guys and shred the defense because look, the optics
are what they are. What we saw in Philadelphia and
Washington simply isn't good enough. And there's a lot to
unpack with it. But let me say this, let me
spend it just a little bit different for a different

(01:00:34):
discussion point. If we weren't going to judge the Bengals
defense until week one, and we've said that many times
that we've heard about the attitude and the energy of
the Bengals defensive training camp, right if we weren't going
to judge the Bengals defense until week one, then we
can't overact to what we're watching right now. I know
how it looks. We all watch the games, but the

(01:00:57):
two extremes are Okay, Number one, this is too much
like last year. It'll be the reason they don't make
the playoffs. Or number two, they aren't showing the playbook
and they remain confident that when they're hold they'll use
the whole playbook and they'll be improved. Okay, I'm maintaining
that I'm skeptical until the regular season starts and nothing
that happens at training camp or in the preseason will

(01:01:20):
change my mind whether that's good, whether that's bad. And
it's not been good so far. But again, I'm not
going to judge this defense on what they're doing at
training camp or what they're doing in the preseason. We
can talk about poor angles, and there were a lot
of them from Jordan Battle in Demetrious Knight. I think
you to go back and watch the game again closer.
I watch it again this morning. The chemistry between Logan

(01:01:41):
Wilson and Demetrious Knight just seems a little bit off
right now. They that both of them seem slow to
go to where they want to go because maybe they're
not sure what the other is going to do. At
this point, chemistry matters at that position, it's been off.
Jordan Battle really jumped out to me last night with
his angle, and I think overall the defense, and Marvin

(01:02:04):
Lewis used to always use the word about being sudden
on defense, there's there's no suddenness, there's no bursts, there's
a lack of speed that you're seeing for this from
this defense, and then to me, those are all concerning.
But again, I'm not going to judge this team and
their defense until I see them week one. Against Cleveland,

(01:02:25):
and maybe even that might be skewed because of what
Cleveland's gonna put on the football field at quarterback and
at their skill positions. They're not a big challenge in
Week one, But we're going to see what this team
really is in Week one. And to your point with
Trey Hendrickson, you know, Trey Hendrickson is elite at one thing,
right He's an elite pass rusher, and that's a very

(01:02:47):
important value in the NFL. But if right now the
biggest concern is run defense and a run defense that
was giving up just an astronomical number per carry last night,
isn't the answer for that, That answer, to me is
what's most concerning. So even if you put Trey back
out there and listen, we all get it. The Bengals

(01:03:09):
need him, but I'm not sure he's the answer to
help this team with run defense. And to me, in
the preseason, that just seems like such a fundamental thing
to be competitive at the line of scrimmage, angles speed, violence,
not pulling up at the two yard line when Jayden
Daniels is running the ball in the Commanders didn't pull up.

(01:03:30):
They grabbed Joe Burrow by the horse collar and threw
it to the ground. So yeah, there's a lot with
the defense there and the optics I get it aren't good,
But again, I'm going to judge this team what they
do in the regular season.

Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
Where do you stand now? We've talked so much in
the offseason about Trey Hendrickson and all along. I think
Austin and I have been in agreement that it feels
like once the Week one gets here, they'll get something done.
He'll be on the trip to Cleveland and he'll be playing.
I don't know that I feel as confident in that
today as opposed to what we did last week. Where

(01:04:04):
do you stand right now as it pertains to Trey
Hendrickson and the likelihood or unlikelihood that he's playing against Cleveland.

Speaker 7 (01:04:12):
I understand where the trepagation would be right now with
Trey and how the confidence would start to wear just
a little bit. I'm not there. I'm still confident that
the Bangles and Trey Hendrickson will get something done. As
the deadline starts to get closer and closer, deadlines make deals,

(01:04:36):
and the deadline is very soon for the Bangals to
get something done with Trey Hendrickson. I maintained that Trey
Hendrickson will not leave money on the table, will not
skip game checks, and will play football Week one in Cleveland.
I'm okay saying that year. I'm okay that if I'm wrong,
you can replay this back and say I was wrong.

(01:04:58):
That that happens quite often. But I do maintain but
by the feel of this situation, In watching the situation,
from the way Trey has discussed it, the way Mike
Brown has discussed it, the way Duke Tobin has discussed it,
Trey being there last night, it all adds up to
me that that it's a guy in an organization that

(01:05:21):
understand the value of each other to each other, and
for that reason, I do believe they're going to get
something done. We believe that he'll get a very high
per year average. We all believe both sides when they
say that they believe Trey Hendrickson deserves a raise and
deserves more years. If it is coming down to guaranteed money,

(01:05:41):
I think at some point it'll likely be Tray that says, Okay, fine,
I'll just go ahead and accept this, sign this and
go play football. But I do maintain confidence that Trey
Hendrickson will get a deal done that will have him
on the field Week one in Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
We would be or miss Joe if we did not
at least touch base on the Reds right now, because
as this summer has gone on and now we get
into later August, this team is still in the thick
of a of a wild card hunt. They're one game
behind the Mets. Their pitching is so good that it's
hard to believe that the pitching is going to falter
and they're going to just leave this race completely. How

(01:06:21):
much of a chance do you give them down the stretch,
knowing where the rotation is and some of the deficiencies
they have on offense as a whole, but they've helped
their defense with key Brian Hayes. Where do you kind
of stake the Reds chances right now to continue making
a run at this wild card spot.

Speaker 7 (01:06:37):
I like their chances better than the Mets, And I'm
being honest about that. And that's not me being a
homer as a guy from Cincinnati. That's me being critical
of what's happening right now in New York and the
way the Reds look. I just like I like the
energy about the Reds, and I like the fact that
the Mets have a lot of pressure on them. It

(01:07:00):
feels like them that's this final month month plus is
going to start to weigh on them. And I like
the fact that the Reds have the Mets one more
time in a home series of Great American Ballpark. But mostly, guys,
what I like most about the Reds right now is
is that their lineup seems to be lengthen it. We've
talked often about the Reds needs someone else to go

(01:07:22):
with Ellie and go with TJ. Friedel and perform like
a star. And I thought for the longest time that
was going to be Spencer Steer, and Spencer Steers had
a much better summer than he did spring. But it's
been Neelvie Marte and what Newelvie mart Is brought to
this team the last few weeks. If that's sustainable over

(01:07:42):
the rest of August and in the September and a
push towards the playoffs, that's that's another reliable bat for
this team. They've been looking for that right handed gas
pig gap over the wall, right handed bat, and it
feels like to me, Noelvi Marte has provided that. It's
been a huge different maker t Brian Hayes. Can he
play defense for the Bengals. His defense has been unbelievable,

(01:08:06):
but he's also hitting enough for him to be a
quality guy at the bottom of the lineup. You've got
six hits in his last five games and including a
little bit of power. But the last thing I'll say
about the Reds and Terry Francona did it last night,
was they'd have to find places where they don't run
Tony Santian and Emilio pagot out every single night. He

(01:08:29):
has to try to trust some of these guys, and
he trusted Barlow last night, and Scott Barlow delivered with
four strikeouts to end the game, and maybe that could
be a Chase Burns when he gets back. Can he
trust Grant Ashcraft and higher leverage? Because the one thing
that will get this team beat in September, when every
game's going to matter for this team is if they

(01:08:51):
get to the eighth or night's inning and Tony Santian
and Emilio Pagan are just out of gas from being
overused all year long. Those late inning losses can feel
like two losses, They feel like gut punches, and they
can linger and they can build and they can derail
a team trying to go on a run. So Terry
Fraycona have to find a way to trust some of

(01:09:12):
these other guys at the bottom of the rotation, excuse me,
at the bottom of the bullpen for these high leverage innings.
And he did so last night and the Reds got
to win. And I like their position. It's going to
be those first ten days in September. Look at the schedule,
you're gonna see it. You're gonna see three hard series
Blue Jays, Mets, and Padres. That to me, that ten

(01:09:34):
day stretch at the start of September on September first,
is going to be the most important ten day stretch
of this season.

Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
That is Joe Daneman from Fox nineteen, high school football
getting underway. College football is here. NFL reads so much
that you guys are covering two parts to end it.
Have you given any more thought to making the trip
to Kansas City next Thursday? And what else you got
coming up on Fox nineteen.

Speaker 7 (01:09:58):
I wish man, we have tape a Bengals show on Thursday.
That week, we have a big Bengals preseason excuse me,
regular season preview that I'm co hosting with Marissa Contapelli. Okay,
we're taping it that day. And then this weekend, big

Speaker 19 (01:11:17):
Jones, We hope never never come back of why We're.

Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
Totally all sounds good to me.

Speaker 7 (01:11:29):
Dofhing comes close to the shop.

Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Thank you, we got hag yeah righting.

Speaker 18 (01:11:36):
Hell all the stars over talk back show.

Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
Rights well right as well?

Speaker 4 (01:11:45):
All right, let's do it. Let's go. We gotta go a.

Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Little nervous this when came at four ten am.

Speaker 20 (01:11:54):
My first talk back ever on behalf of my family.

Speaker 7 (01:11:58):
Tony, I'd like to say congratulations on.

Speaker 4 (01:12:01):
UC Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Thank you, We sure are proud of you.

Speaker 7 (01:12:05):
And also like to congratulator Landu Brown who won up
Samora Stewart's hit on our hopes and dreams Joe Burrow
with a beautiful strip sack. He did his in a
real game.

Speaker 21 (01:12:19):
Okay, thank you, Tony Austin.

Speaker 22 (01:12:22):
Hey, it's near production here, Hey, Neir, I'm still hanging
out with d EJ.

Speaker 4 (01:12:27):
Man.

Speaker 7 (01:12:29):
Loved our performance last night.

Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
Our disruptiveness was on full display.

Speaker 15 (01:12:34):
Yet who needs Trey Hendrickson and sacks?

Speaker 7 (01:12:38):
Who needs production? When you got near production?

Speaker 4 (01:12:41):
Man, we disrupt.

Speaker 23 (01:12:43):
Joe Burrow got the old live some nice swords for
a president about a year ago with quite evident on
the field. They're not willing to fall on their sword
for Joe Burrow. I mean I was three man standing
around and watch your QB get horse collar to the
ground and not do nothing about it.

Speaker 7 (01:12:57):
I mean not even getting angry.

Speaker 23 (01:12:59):
I guess you want to get up where Joe gets
hitting practice.

Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Tough to get angry when you're the one that needs
to be angry. You're the one who deserves the anger
directed to him.

Speaker 24 (01:13:10):
But he could take it when you have Hayes de
la Cruze play to steer on that infield. They're not perfect,
but man, they're exciting to watch. One of the most
fun defensive outfits I've ever seen out there. And speaking
the defense guys, I got bad news for you, Al Golden.
As a Hurricane fan, I vividly remember twenty twelve. This
guy gave up three hundred yards underground to case date,
four hundred on the ground to note to day with

(01:13:32):
no adjustments, this guy's not gonna be able to stop
the run. I've seen this movie before. This ain't gonna
end well, he's not in DC.

Speaker 25 (01:13:40):
I don't want to even think y'all's begging and just
take a second look at this receiving corps today, where
they're at compared to a year ago, and tell me
this is not scary as hell.

Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
We've got Chase and t.

Speaker 25 (01:13:54):
Locked down long term, now contractor settled, they can play freely.
We've got a bigger Yoshi making play over the middle.
We've got a healthy and looks like he's a stronger.
Charlie Jones. We've got go, go gadget Timsley out there
making ridiculous plays and hopefully a sane Germaine.

Speaker 4 (01:14:11):
Yeah, I think they're ridiculous. They are ridiculous at receiver. Unfortunately,
none of those players can play on the defensive side
of the ball as of today.

Speaker 26 (01:14:23):
It's the lord, just an observation. The backups look better
than the starters. Gotta help us all good healthy season
If that's gonna be the case, Come on, Bengals, let's
get this fixed.

Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
Okay. Thank you from the UC Health Traffic Center.

Speaker 27 (01:14:42):
Hair treans played experts are on standby for those Cincinnati
fans who constantly pull their hair out. Expect another three
to five year delay to get to the World Series.
For the Reds, where else are you gonna go? As
far as the Bengals are concerned, it's all let's let's
go to Joe Burrow's pocket. As well as for the

(01:15:04):
other teams offense, have Eddie Villig with traffic.

Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Eddie thinks you nailed it.

Speaker 20 (01:15:13):
Greg Sharonville another gut punch loss when this team can
only score one run. I know, Hayes is a great
defensive player. I'll tell you the facts are, he's a
nine hole hitter that can't hit, and he's no health
to this team offensive.

Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
When was that from? They won last They scored four
last night? He tripled last night. Dang Greg, Greg's in
the wrong box score.

Speaker 28 (01:15:39):
Hey guys say from Chicago regarding the game last night
the Bengals, Zach Taylor needs to step in and protect
Joe Burrow. Joe cannot be running around like he's trying
to make a play in a preseason game.

Speaker 7 (01:15:56):
That's just that's just flirting with that.

Speaker 28 (01:16:00):
We got to step in and take the ball away
from Joe, take his helmet away, and said you can't
play like that in.

Speaker 16 (01:16:07):
Free season games.

Speaker 4 (01:16:09):
Maybe Joe just wanted to give some teaching to the
offensive line that when he scrambles, you're actually supposed to
continue to block players. Interesting, that's a teaching moment.

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Now, Tony.

Speaker 7 (01:16:21):
People are starting to talk. You're saying you can't do
a show by yourself, gotta have a co host.

Speaker 15 (01:16:27):
What do you say to that?

Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
I just do what I'm told I do these shows
I'm asked to do with whomever I'm asked to do
them with.

Speaker 22 (01:16:37):
One or two things that's going on with the same
Bengals defense. One the coaches are telling the players to
play so vanilla that they're not giving any tape to
regular season teams. Or two they are that slow and
they are that bad and they're missing assignments. Was physically

(01:17:01):
ill in my stomach to watch that first quarter last night,
Thank you, Yeah, only the Shires.

Speaker 21 (01:17:14):
And on Joe's scramble when he got sat there a
goal line last night, why didn't the players try to
help him by trying to block those people on when
he was scrambling. They just stood around looking. I don't
get it. Well, we're in trouble for the defense.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
It was pitiful.

Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
Thank you. It seemed like they were just watching it all.

Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
It's a question. It's a great question, brother. I wish
I had an answer.

Speaker 22 (01:17:43):
It's a double dip.

Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
Deal with it.

Speaker 22 (01:17:45):
Could you imagine if it pans out that the Reds
actually become a wild card team and the Bengals go
eight to nine and missed the playoffs? Don't do that, boy,
that would be good radio. But I don't know if
I am not looking forward to this regular season with
the Bengals. I just got an eerie feeling it's going

(01:18:08):
to be exactly like last year.

Speaker 15 (01:18:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:18:11):
I don't know how much good radio that would make,
to be honest, Yeah, I agree, but I hope the
Reds make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
That would be cool. I would like it if the
Reds made the playoffs.

Speaker 29 (01:18:22):
Yeah, how about that first series for Jordan Battle last night?
Whiffs on the debo, end around, whiffs on the second run.
Then on Daniel's touchdown run, he has the absolute chance
to light him up and just gives him a little
tug around the tummy. Not sure what was going on there,
but I was about ready to run down on the
field last night.

Speaker 4 (01:18:42):
Yeah, there's a screen shot you probably could have picked
up a first down against the Bengals. I guarantee we
line up in that power you lead me through there,
I'm getting the first down easy. There was a screen
shot that Paul Danner Junior tweeted out of like Jade
and Daniels on the ten yard line and three Bengal
defenders not on blocks anywhere around him, and he scored

(01:19:02):
while standing up.

Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
It did seem like they were trying to not hurt him.

Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
That's what we want.

Speaker 30 (01:19:10):
I don't understand the media obsession this year with needing
the fast start. If they go to and oh, that'd
be great, but failed up the season oh and two,
the media is going to say the season's over. But
does it matter if they start the season oh to
two and win the next two and are at five
hundred versus starting the season two and oh and dropping
the next two and being five hundred the first four.
To me, they feel the same no matter how you

(01:19:30):
get there. No, because I know my favorite Bengal ever,
John Kidnap.

Speaker 4 (01:19:34):
Bingle, because it feels like to me, if when they
start slow, then you are just constantly chasing the playoffs.
You never give yourself a chance to be like, hey,
we're in we're in line for the one seed, we're
in line for competing, we're in line for playoff seeding.
It feels like you're always chasing from the start, and
it puts so much pressure, more pressure on every single
game you play after that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
And also when you play fast from the beginning of
the season, you put pressure on the other teams as well.
You put pressure on Kansas City, on Buffalo, on Baltimore
and others. And on top of that, you know, those
games oftentimes have been games that the Bengals should have
won and they didn't, and that can be the difference
like it was in twenty twenty three and last year

(01:20:16):
in not getting a playoff spot bingal.

Speaker 5 (01:20:21):
Double dip Here, has Mitchell Tinsley moved ahead of Jermaine
Burton now, No, not yet.

Speaker 4 (01:20:27):
No, I don't think he's got to be out there.

Speaker 31 (01:20:30):
Maybe it's not fair to single out just one player,
but I'm gonna do it anyway. Joe Burrow is putting
his life on the line every single play out there
last night, and you can't tackle ver quarterback at the
goal line, Jordan Battle. If Ronnie Lott was your teammate,
you would not be breathing right now. There are a

(01:20:51):
dozen other guys on this team behind you playing harder.
Come on, man and Ronnie Lott? Do you love the two.

Speaker 32 (01:20:58):
Drama Queens member Jim Breach the kicker for the bang?

Speaker 4 (01:21:04):
Yeah, you're automatic.

Speaker 32 (01:21:05):
From forty yards and beyond forty anyway? Do you know
what Jim Breech's middle name is?

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
Data Security? Austin.

Speaker 32 (01:21:16):
I was following along with your game updates last night
on Truth Social Reproof Sole. I agree with you. Jermaine
Bergen looked good and it's time to move on from
al Gold.

Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
That is fake news, right there.

Speaker 17 (01:21:32):
God a Austin, I have an Ohio high school football
team for you to root.

Speaker 7 (01:21:37):
Form about Taft High School.

Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
Tell me about that.

Speaker 30 (01:21:42):
We're already a bunch of miserable sports fans around here.

Speaker 17 (01:21:45):
Why not root for the eighty seventh ranked high school
football team in the state of Ohio. Don't give yourself
the pleasure of rooting for Molder or any of those
top programs.

Speaker 7 (01:21:57):
Just misery loves company. That's what we do here.

Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
All right? Interesting? Are you so interesting? I mean, that's
not exactly what I had in mind. I don't. I
want to get some sort of joy out of it, right,
You guys.

Speaker 14 (01:22:12):
Need to quit being cry babies. Holy crap.

Speaker 7 (01:22:15):
Damned if they do, Damned if they don't.

Speaker 5 (01:22:18):
Burrows a competitor. It's getting him ready for the season.

Speaker 7 (01:22:23):
Yeah he had.

Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
All right, he's knocked out day one. The season's over
on day one. Let's see here, see what collea man donao.

Speaker 7 (01:22:39):
Good after the gentlemen?

Speaker 19 (01:22:41):
I think last year, end of the season, when you
get Frank Pollack out of here, get Frank Pollack out
of here. I remember asking you guys they all does
line the linga was pretty bad. It is because that
personnel worse than our personnel. And when that coach comes here,
are personnel is going.

Speaker 7 (01:22:57):
To be better. And I got a definite art personnel
is better.

Speaker 19 (01:23:02):
I don't know is our personnel man is the coutch
not that good or do we need a new Blonkings game.

Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
I don't know, but they clearly thought the personnel was
good enough with new coaching, and I don't know if
that's the case. I don't know.

Speaker 33 (01:23:14):
Joe from Casey here, Hey, what concerns me about the
defense is, you know, when's the last time we saw
a d lineman just beat the man across from him
to make a play, whether it's a sack or a
you know, tackle at the line of scrimmage, just anything.
Sometimes you just got to beat the man and make
a play, and we just don't.

Speaker 4 (01:23:35):
Yeah they okay, yeah, win the one on one battle.
He's correct.

Speaker 11 (01:23:43):
Watching last night's game, obviously the defense got blasted early
but played pretty well late, and there was a little
bit of discussion on the radio about the Bengals struggling
with mobile quarterbacks even last year. Jalen hurts, Jayden Daniels,
Lamar Jackson games that we lost even though our offense
played really good, and find trying to find a way
to help to neutralize the mobility of some of these quarterbacks.

(01:24:06):
We have difficulties with any thoughts on how we can
maybe address that problem.

Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
Yeah, I think it's hard to say the defense played
better as a game went on, because that was a
different unit out there, and I don't think they wanted
to use Jayde Daniels if they gave him one run
last night. They've always struggled against Lamar Jackson, They've struggled
obviously against Jayden Daniels. There could be something to that,
but the answer to that would be to get more athletic.

(01:24:30):
What I've seen so far does not look like an
athletic fast front seven.

Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
Yeah, you would kind of hope that Demetrius Knight or
Barrett Carter or somebody would have emerged during camp to
be like, Okay, this is a guy that we can
use in a lot of different roles. Yeah, it's the
guy that we could use to spy a Jayden Daniels
or Lamar Jackson, or maybe to rush or blitz. I
feel like we haven't seen a lot of blitzes. Maybe
I'm wrong on that.

Speaker 4 (01:24:54):
Now to play Barrett Carter made last night where he
showed Tampa too and then put his foot in the
ground and intercepted that pass. It was a great play,
terrible pass from Sam Hartman, but he would look he
looked that looked like an athlete.

Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
Yeah. Against the run, Yeah, It's just it's hard to
tell exactly what the plan might be for that because
it has been so vanilla, and I don't know that
they really would have showed much that they might use
against Lamar Jackson last night against Jaden Daniels. But hopefully
that's the part of learning the personnel that you have
and what they do well and then maximizing it. That's

(01:25:26):
part of the whole challenge for Al Gold.

Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
I'm left asking today, are we sure Logan Wilson and
Demetrius Knight should be the two starting linebacker?

Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
It's a great question.

Speaker 4 (01:25:36):
What's up?

Speaker 34 (01:25:37):
I think we got the answer to the question about
the Reds scoring runs in the inning or three and
out by the Bengals defense, no simple concept. Everybody played bad,
and I've truly listened to more Queen Latifa than Queen
so Oh. I'd say Queen Latifah, I really missed your wife, Tony.

Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
Let it resonate whether or not you need to bring
that back. Mo out all right, mo, I'll see what
I can do.

Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
Let it resonate with Renee. Man, come on, when is
this Big three gonna be over with?

Speaker 4 (01:26:11):
I am so tired of these damn commercials.

Speaker 10 (01:26:14):
And I alson.

Speaker 19 (01:26:15):
Never thought i'd utter the words man, we could really
use Tino Stone.

Speaker 4 (01:26:18):
Yes, I think a time last night I thought maybe
we could really use your main Prat good.

Speaker 6 (01:26:24):
Point, folks, stop reacting to the preseason game. The Washington
offense did a lot of schemes on those runt and plays.
They did a lot of stunts, They did a lot
of creative blocks, and guess what they had like nine
people at the line. The Bengals were not doing anything schematically.
The Bengals were playing pure man coverage for the most part,

(01:26:45):
and when the run actually happened, it was nine Washington
commanders versus like five or six Bengals. Guess who's gonna
win every freaking time?

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Austin probably the other team that has more players. We're
out of time. We have a bunche that we didn't
get to.

Speaker 4 (01:27:02):
Oh I love the day after Bengals.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Game out of time. I love the day after games.

Speaker 4 (01:27:08):
Injury report coming back and uh man, Joe Goodberry knocks
it out with his analysis.

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
And see what he's got to say.

Can't wait to hear from Joe and maybe we'll ask
him what we just heard from Johnny. Yeah, maybe that
was the case. We're just not showing anything that in

Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Lucas Patrick last night was apparently dinged.

Speaker 4 (01:28:59):
Yeah, well dinged on the part of.

Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
The reason why he came out of the game. Jalen
Rivers actually looked okay, and he came in there and
was at right guard. By the way, Zach Taylor said
that if it was a regular season game last night,
Cody Ford would have been able to play, uh and
that his injury is not considered serious. We still don't
know the timeline of Cordell Vohlson. What about Jermaine Burton.

(01:29:22):
Jermaine Burton also don't know about what about Mike? I
think last week Zach had said that if it was
a regular season game, Mike would have it would have
been a game time to say.

Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
What about BJ Hill?

Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
So I would assume it would be close. I I
don't understand the BJ Hill thing. What about Geno Stone?
Why doesn't BJ Hill need the reps?

Speaker 4 (01:29:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
If he's on to play and he practices, why doesn't
he get the reps?

Speaker 4 (01:29:48):
I don't understand it. That whole thing just seems weird
to me. It's been a very odd camp. It's obviously
a position of need.

Speaker 2 (01:29:57):
Yeah. What about Miles Murphy, Yeah, that's don't know anything
about him either. Yeah, don't know what direction he's going,
but unknown setback from what we've understood. Yeah, so there's
a lot going on.

Speaker 4 (01:30:10):
But maybe Joe Goodberry can help sort through some of
that with us. I like what Joe has to say. Well,
we're gonna talk to like these things, he says. When

Speaker 2 (01:31:09):
Joe Goodbarry, Joe, what's up?

Speaker 15 (01:31:11):
How you doing boys?

Speaker 4 (01:31:13):
Joe? I believe I saw earlier in training camp seventeenth season.
Now talking about Bengals football, you're doing so with Bengals
on the brain presented by First Star Logistics. In those
seventeen years, can you remember more questions about a starting
defense than what we're going through right now?

Speaker 5 (01:31:31):
No, that you're right.

Speaker 15 (01:31:32):
That probably is because we've had years where it's been
whether it's the old line, maybe it's just the defensive line.
Maybe it's just the corners, but no, you're right. This
is an entire unit that is under the microscope right now,
from the starters to the backups and who should be
playing at linebacker. You know, there's a lot of questions
last night with that to the makeshift defensive line with
no Trey Hendrickson out there, no Miles Murphy last night,

(01:31:53):
and seeing Dax Hill for the first time. Yeah, there
are a ton of questions on the defensive side.

Speaker 4 (01:31:57):
I don't even know where to start. Josephosai has no
not really taking the step forward. We haven't seen a
ton from Miles Murphy at camp. We've seen none of
Trey Hendrickson. We've raved about Shamar Stewart at times. And
I thought early in camp Demetrius Night was solid. I
thought he took a step back. I thought at times
Logan Wilson looked a little bit off, and the secondary
has kind of been in flux all of camp. We're

(01:32:18):
sitting here now and we know it's a quick turnaround.
Last preseason game on Saturday, and then it's all hands
on deck for Cleveland. Can they right this ship? In
your opinion, in that amount of time and put together, again,
not a top ten defense, but can they put together
some sort of resistance to other offenses in the NFL.

Speaker 15 (01:32:39):
They definitely can. And the thing is it's preseason, right,
we have to remember that. You watch the film, you
look at the calls and you say, Okay, it looks
like they're trying things. It looks like they're trying to
slant and stunt with their defensive line, you know, different
coverages in the back half, and they're trying to work
through the young linebackers. Demetrius Knight, nexts Logan Wilson, work
with Chris Jankin instead of bj Hill as a starting

(01:33:01):
defensive tackle, not really getting the containment they want from
the backup edges you know, Shamar Stewart and Miles Murpinjo
Sisai And it's like, okay, you know what if you
get Trey Hendrickson back, that's a big part of the defense.
If you're game planning for opponents and having third down
packages that you're specifically designing for the offense that you're facing, yeah,
defense can look much much different. And I think guys

(01:33:24):
like Metri Knight need the reps and I think he
got seven snaps last night, So you know, there's a
lot of room for improvement, but a lot of time
to grow still. So can they be better? Of course
they can, and I think a lot of that is
Trey and a lot of that is getting bj Hill back,
getting Dak Hill for the first time we saw him
and playing outside corner and then moving into the slot
and their nickel packages. I think that's how you maximize him.

(01:33:45):
Getting Geno stoneback that they should help, you know, as
up and down as he.

Speaker 7 (01:33:49):
Was last year.

Speaker 15 (01:33:50):
It helps to have a free safety on the field
that as NFL experience you, I'll Tyson Anderson's played about
one snap in his NFL career in regular season, so
it's not a real direct replacement every other guy who
doesn't have the time on the field. So yeah, there's
a lot of ways you can get better. But still
we're gonna be going into Week one saying, all right,
let's see it, let's hope because I don't think a
lot of these starters are going to play on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
What does give you hope right now, specifically on the
defensive side of the ball, What are you most excited
about from what you've seen through those first two games.

Speaker 15 (01:34:22):
I do think the Schamar Stewart conversation should continue. Yeah,
he looks strong in camp, and I think the defense
has had good days in camp, not so much in
preseason action. But I think Schamar's at the very least
can be a chaos creator and a disruptor, which is
something they desperately need. Yeah, there's he may miss some tackles,
he may have some bad angles, he may not be

(01:34:42):
able to get off box all the time, but he's
gonna run through a brick wall at one hundred miles
an hour and see what happens afterwards. And again, if
you pair that with Tray that he might clean up
some sacks off Shamar's pressures. So I do think that
the versatility upfront from him, because he's playing every side
on every position on defense line, left defense, end, right
defenseven defensive tackle, moving them all around, I think that

(01:35:04):
can really help your defense. So I think continuing that
conversation is worthwhile and being excited for him and his impact.
And then the other one is Dax Hill. Like I said,
I think a lot of people saw Dax Is coming
out of Michigan as he's a slot guy. He's going
to play the slot like you get in Michigan, and
he's going to be a souped up Mike Hilton. I
mean that length, that side, that speed is rare to

(01:35:26):
find in the slot. That's how he can become a playmaker. Well,
then last year we tell him play boundary corner and
there were some people that are like, hey, he could
do this, and I thought he looked good through five games.
He's probably the best corner in those first five games
last year before he got hurt. They brought him back slowly.
Was the first time seeing him last night, and right
away they come out and they're in a base defense
and he's a boundary corner and I say, okay, so
let's see what they do in nickel And in nickel

(01:35:47):
they kick him inside in the slot. This is reminiscent
of Leon Hall. That's the role of a number one corner.
I think that's best of both worlds. That's how we're
going to see him as best. And if you can
get him to play at that level where he's an
impact defensive back because you're moving them around because you're
keeping them and lett him do what he does best,
that's a big boost to the defense.

Speaker 4 (01:36:08):
You mentioned Trey Hendrickson, and everyone kind of has their
own idea on where this is going to go. I
have thought, as Austin has that by the time the
Cleveland week rolls around, he's going to sign, he's going
to be a Bengal. He'll make the trip and have
an impact ideally in the game. Has anything that has
transpired over the last couple of days altered your view
of what ultimately happens here with Trey Hendrickson and the

(01:36:29):
Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 15 (01:36:33):
I did think the reporting was different this time around,
where it felt more maybe from the team perspective, that
they have exercised or at least explored trade options. And
then you I don't know if you guys saw this,
but the GM for the Patriots was doing an interview
yesterday and he said that we are We're willing to
of a premium pack if we have to. And then

(01:36:53):
there was reports that Kyle Dugars on the trading block.
And then there was reports last night during the game.
I think it was from a Boston reporter that said
the Patriots are one of the teams that have contacted
the Bengals about Tree Hundreckson. So I thought, man, maybe
there is some smoke there for the first time, because
I never thought it was real. Because of how the
Bengals operate, they will overvalue their players in a trade scenario,
right They'll say, give us a first plus a player. Well,

(01:37:15):
that's that's a lot right now. Plus the team's got
to give a contract up for Trey Undredckson. As much
as we love him and I think he's in the
week pass rusher, it is a lot to give up
red though, two weeks to go before the regular season,
so I don't expect it to happen unless a team
like the Patriots are offering that Kyle Dougar and a
premium pick. Well maybe, so, you know, I did wonder
about that, but ultimately I'm with you, guys. I think

(01:37:36):
we're only at eleven thirty PM. We got thirty minutes
before the clock at midnight, which is probably Thursday night
before week one, and we're probably at eleven forty five,
which maybe a week left to go. Things are going
to pick up, and then if we approach midnight, both
sides are going to look at it try and say, look,
this is our final offer, take it or leave it.
And last year it happened with Jamar Chase and Jamar said,

(01:37:57):
leave it. I'll do this next year. The previous year
happened on Thursday Night football Joe Burrow signed. It was like,
I have time, right, So I think we're going down
that again. Why does it have to be so painful?
I don't know. It's the Bengals, that's what they do,
but I think that's where we're going.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
Dalton Reisner is visiting today. I know that you've been
bullish on him and the Bengals bringing him in. Explain
to people why you feel so strongly about Dalton Reisner.

Speaker 15 (01:38:23):
Yeah, Raisner was the number one target I had in
free agency from the pickup of Guard, and it's because
he hasn't been valued by the league. I think that's
relative to his play. And he's a very very good
pass protector and has created as such. And I think
I'm filling me looks like a very good pass protector.
He's been charged PFFS gave him one sack the last

(01:38:43):
five years and true pass sets. That sounds awesome. The
Bengals are in chiefs are the two highest teams in
true pass set scenario. So let me get a pass
protecting guard. Great and he last year I think he
made one year two point five million with the Vikings
HETEs probably looking at that type of deal again, and
so I thought, for value and fit, Dalton Reisner is
a great fit for the Bengals, and he was a

(01:39:04):
guy I'm like, let me get him. And it's been
three years running now where I wanted Dalton Riising on
the Bengals. And he typically sits out there. He's typically
undervalued and people are gonna say, why is he out there?
Is this Layel Collins? Is this you know? Is this
Trent Brown? It's I don't think it's that. And he
did have the back injury last year. I think he
kept them off the field for the first couple of weeks,
but largely I think he's had issues. He pushed a

(01:39:26):
backup quarterback once in Denver. He's been a bit of brasive.
He's online and on social media, and I think that's
you know, sometimes rubs teams. But justin Riskay, who came
from Minnesota, knows who Dalton Reisner is. He probably is
very aware of what type of personality is and what
he can and can't do. He's not a great run blocker,
but he's a fantastic pass blocker, and I think that's

(01:39:47):
a perfect fit. So if the Bengals end up signing him,
I think he is going to end up the starter
at right guard. The defense has been using Lucas Patrick
as a human highlight reel in camp and even in
the preseason that the Eagles did, But so I don't
think the leash is too long for Lucas Patrick. I
think Reiser can come in and beat him out pretty quickly.

Speaker 4 (01:40:07):
How did you feel viewing the first quarter last night
after the Bengals go down and score and watching on
back to back possessions Joe Burrow scrambling, Joe Burrow taking hits.
Do you view that as that's part of what Joe
wants or was it a little bit too much last
night given the dynamic of the field they're playing on
not having the other skill guys in How did you
view the usage of Joe Burrow in that first quarter?

Speaker 15 (01:40:30):
Yeah, stare on the scary side, because I think of
both side with this scary side is its preseason. That
field is notorious for ruining careers, right, and they had
some rain earlier in the day. All these things and
it's preseason. I don't want the quarterback getting hit. I
don't want Joe getting hit anytime, even in the regular season,
but at least then it's potentially worth something. I did
not like it at all, and I wondered why you
were still out there starting offensive lines out there, but

(01:40:52):
all the weapons were backups, and Joe said he wanted
those reps, and I think sideline reporters that you want
the rets with the depth at receiver, which makes sense
because he miss his time, right Tremaine Burton has missed
time for different reasons. Charlie Jones, is this time you
got to see who the Mitchell Tinsley is. You gotta
throw to Yoshi, you gotta throw these backup guys that
and get pass protection from Todge Burke, from Smatches p

(01:41:13):
Ryan and different things like that. So I get that part.
I also, on the other hand, I don't want to
take that away from Burrow. Like Burrow is a playmaker.
He's the guy who's gonna fight when things look bad,
like he's got two rushers in his face. That play's
not over right. He's not gonna throw it away, not all,
not a lie. He's not Andy Dalton on third down

(01:41:34):
throwing the ball away around four downs down by a score, right,
like we hated that. Now we're on the other side
where Burrow will fight for every single play and try
and keep it alive as long as possible, and that
is in his DNA. I don't want to take that
away from the Mountain traf. It's preseason. They're not You
let him play the way he's going to play in
week one, and I think that's how you get a
better Joe Burrow.

Speaker 4 (01:41:52):
On Week one you mentioned Mitchell Tinsley. Does Mitchell Tinsley
make this roster for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 15 (01:41:58):
I think he has to. I originally was thinking, you know,
Charlie Jones and Isaiah Williams as the last couple of
guys depending on how many they want to keep. Charlie
Jones says, looks like he's still their return man despite
Jermaine Burton having a nice return versus the Eagles. But
Burton's bell with injuries, and I think Isaiah Williams behind
both of them now as a return man. Isada Williams

(01:42:19):
at nice pump returned last night too, or the Commanders
out kicked their coverage a little bit, But Williams really
hasn't done anything on the offensive side in preseason, and
the Bengals really like him, and I get it, but
I don't think a team's gonna claim Isaia Wiams. You
could feel comfortable cutting him and putting him on your
practice squad. And Charlie Jones has looked good in the preseason.
I thought he had a good game versus the Eagles
and Browning was poor, and you know, he did what

(01:42:40):
he could there. But then he caught Joe Burrow's touch
on pass last night, and I think Burrow trusts him
a little bit, and they I think they're excited about
what Charlie Jones could be in a whole position in
this offense. And then you get to Mitchell Tinsley and
it's like, okay, if Burrow says he trusts this guy.
He's made a couple of big plays. Dan Horde is
a couple of plays out there through training camp, and

(01:43:01):
I retweeted those earlier today, So if you're looking for those,
he's had big plays. It wasn't just this game, and
they wanted to see him with the with Joe Burrow,
he was out there. It was Charlie Jones, andre U
Shibash and Mitchell Tinsley when Burrow was still out there,
and I thought, well, that's interesting. Okay, that tells us
the packing order there. And when you get a guy
that has ball skills and contort his body in the

(01:43:22):
air and turn away from defenders the way he does
go up and high point the ball. And Jamar Chase
was doing an interview during the game and he said
to Laura Rutledge, he says, his release package, Actually, I
like to watch Mitchell Tinsley cause he got the best
release packages on the him and that's brought running off
the line. Well then, okay, he may be a really
good runner as well. So yeah, I think he's on
the roster, and I think you keep that many because

(01:43:43):
the Bengals, they're out there there three hide receiver team
most of the time.

Speaker 2 (01:43:47):
Another bottom of the roster guy that I felt like
had a pretty good night last night was Braylan Lux.
I know you also talked a little bit about the performance.
What did you see from Braylan Lux at Bengals fans
might want to keep an eye on over the next
week or so.

Speaker 15 (01:44:01):
Yeah. So when he was an undrafted prospect, I went
back and watched the film and I thought, you know,
they only put him at boundary corner. But the way
he attacked the run, played the run, tackled, was willing
to come in and put his nose into it, I thought,
And I didn't think he had great long speed and
great deep ball skills, but anything shortened underneath. I was like, Yeah,
this guy's uh, he's got talent. I said, I think
he's a slot guy. And I did that on my show,

(01:44:22):
and I was happy to see the Bengals using him
in the slot. And maybe he got a little bit
of Mike Hilton powers putting on that number twenty one.
But he is. They're run blitzing him. They're they're blitzing
them there. They're having him take on blockers and lead
blocker and he looks like Mike Hilton out there, but
he's much quicker, faster, and stickier and man covered. I mean,
he's young. Hopefully this continues his next couple of years.

(01:44:43):
I think he's fighting for maybe a potential bottom corner
roster spot, but if not, I think he's practiced squad
with potential for future years. And if another team's watching this,
they may want to develop him on the back half
of their roster if they've got a poor cornerback room.
The Bengals are pretty deep, deeper at corner than they
are safety. I think this is the year that he
probably six corners and four safeties, which means he may

(01:45:05):
be that sixth guy. I would I'd be interested in
developing him the powers the Bengals and not putting them
on waivers because corner is such a position that gets
hurt and teams need corners all throughout the league. I
wouldn't want to expose them to anyone.

Speaker 4 (01:45:17):
Is there a player or a position group battle that
we're not discussing enough that you think is going to
be interesting as cutdowns approach?

Speaker 15 (01:45:27):
Yeah, I think it's probably the fifth defensive tackle. If
we say that b J. Hill and TJ. Slayton and
Chris Jenkins and McKinley Jackson are safe, and I think
McKenley Jackson is. There's some question at the first preseason
game he's still playing in the fourth quarter, but I
think he's the direct backup to TJ. Slayton as the
nose tackle. The fifth guy, though, has been Tavian Bryan,
undrafted guy Howard Cross from Notre Dame, who probably is

(01:45:49):
Belt Golden's guy. He had a couple of really nice
pass rushers last night. Tavian Bryant has always been a
solid pass rusher and can give you that, and that's valuable,
and he's a veteran and he you know, if you play,
you know what you're going to get out of him.
I'm then the last guy last night, Eric Gregory, another
on drafted defensive tackle, had a bunch of flashes and
he was one of the better players on defense last night.

(01:46:10):
And he's more of a run stuffer. Well, he also
won as a pass rusher last night and got in
the backfield quite a few times. And I thought, Okay,
if that's what Gregory is, maybe he can make the roster.
Maybe he's at least on the practice squad, and maybe
it's Tavin Bryan on the roster, and you get Howard
Cross on the practice squad as well. One of those
three guys are going to make the fifty three. And

(01:46:30):
I would expect all three on the team in some
capacity being the practice squad. But it is an interesting
battle to watch people with the veteran with Tavian Bryant,
you go with the guy probably a Golden Wikes and
probably you know, campaign for and Howard Cross, and then
I think Eric Gregory is just as good of a
prospect as Cross, but you know, different style.

Speaker 4 (01:46:49):
We questioned a lot of you know, is Demitrius Knight ready?
Where's Barrett Carter? One thing I think we're gaining a
very clear view on Joe is the play of Dylan Fairchild.
Back to back strong performances for the rookie, the third
rounder out of Georgia. I believe he's the second highest
graded offensive lineman through the draft process this year. How

(01:47:10):
confident are you on an offensive line that does have
some questions? How confident are you with what they have
in Dylan Fairchild?

Speaker 15 (01:47:17):
I'm growing confidence, no doubt about it. If you listen
to any evaluator pre or post draft, anyone that watches
the film, they all said the same things about doing
Fairchild that he probably needs to be reworked a little bit.
I needs to work on his hands a little bit
more in his timing of his paunch. But he's willing,
and he's a wrestler, and he you know, he's got
that mindset that he can work with. And then after

(01:47:38):
the Bengals draft and they're like, yeah, Scott Peters and
Dyllan Fairchild hit it off and they're in lockstep of
how they want to develop him. And it's like, okay, well,
shout out to Scott Peters because he looks like he
had developed fast, like instantly. He looks different than he
looked at Georgia and his hand usage are is so
much better. He's recovering. Like there was the play last
night Verstohn Payn where he loses the initial rep reed,

(01:48:00):
gets his hands underneath, torks his midsection, gets his hips
him on in front of drom Pain and rides him
out and away from Joe Burrow. This is a slant
to Tanner Hudson in the end zone that wasn't completed,
but it's like, oh man, that's it. It looks like
a veteran guard out there. And now we've seen rookies
all up around the NFL and in preseason have a
good performance in menaport performance, especially on the offensive line.

(01:48:21):
Consistency is the key there and we're getting it back
to back. I'm excited you get that back to back
and that's like, okay, maybe this is who he is
and if it is, shout out to Scott Peters, to
Duke Covin and the drafting because they haven't hit on
an offensive lineman in a while. It feels like, hopefully
Marrius Men's is also that dude this year and they'd
be back to back years. That'd be great. Keep drafting
Georgia Lymon, I guess, but that would be huge for

(01:48:42):
the Bengals offensive line. And then if he's that good
and Mins takes that step, and Ryanda Brown solid and
Ted Carris a salad and they add Dalton Reisner and
he is he's been throughout his career. That's the best
offensive line Joe Burrow's had in his career.

Speaker 4 (01:48:55):
Then feels like they can make a significant impact if
they can get Reisner to be here in Cincinnati, which
I don't see at this point. Why not? Lastly, I
know it's pretty simple. Evan McPherson has looked much better
throughout training camp in the preseason. Any reason to believe
that he's not going to rebound from a down year
last year.

Speaker 15 (01:49:14):
I think this is a big storyline, maybe an underrated one.
When I was talking about enough, I'm glad you brought
it up. That ball looks different coming out, That ball
looks like it's spinning straight. Had that like almost seventy
five three quarters spin last year, and it kept trailing
in the last like ten yards of you know, as
it approached the the the goal post last year and
we'll just just swing out of there. So whatever needed

(01:49:35):
to be corrected, if those injury or you know, holder
or long snaper, what it looks figured out. We've got
two fifty yarders. If that's what McPherson is again, you
can bomb these fifty yarders and an offense that may
go forward a ton on fourth down. We saw it
three times last night, which I'm in favor of the
defense on the field score touchdowns, right, that's you probably
have to win this year if McPherson's back. We're talking

(01:49:56):
that's probably three games last year that could have been
won if they know those at the end. Charger of
Ravens I think of right away, and there were others.
The one point could have been different than the Chiefs
game Week two as well, and I missed extra points.
So yeah, if that's fixed, then it looks like it
could be also an underrated boost.

Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
To this team. Awesome stuff man, as always, Joe Goodberry
Bengals on the brain going into year seventeen. What is
the easiest way that folks can follow along with all
the coverage you got going on with the Bengals going.

Speaker 15 (01:50:24):
Into the year on Twitter on x at Joe Goodberry
just the way it sounds, and well, I'll be tweeting
every day, so if you're into that thing, I'm still there.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:50:34):
Thanks, thanks so much, man, We appreciate your time.

Speaker 7 (01:50:37):
Thanks guys.

Speaker 4 (01:50:38):

thanks for listening. You're doing so on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. Back with more after this, low Edgar.

Speaker 35 (01:50:49):
Let's pretend that today is the day after the Bengals.

Speaker 13 (01:50:54):
Voye said, the Tri State sports fan have just won
the Super Bowl. Loegar today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:51:02):
Persents the Big Three Basketball Championship. Cincy three sixty is

Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
To And I know that we don't have a ton
of time here, but I got a text from our
friend Dan Horde and said, hey, yesterday at halftime, we
had one of the Bengals assistant GM scouting. I'm watching
his title right now, Stephen Radissevic. I believe is how
you say, Steve. I could be wrong on that he's

(01:52:18):
the assistant GM and I totally am butching this, but
he was joined Dan and Dave were joined by Steven
at halftime yesterday and they asked him about Dalton Reisner.

Speaker 8 (01:52:31):
Here is his answer, Steven, we got the opportunity to
talk to you on a night where there was some
breaking news of sorts. Earlier today it came out that
Dalton Reisner, six year NFL BET with a lot of
playing experience, is going to visit Cincinnati tomorrow as a
free agent. What's the thought process for what Dalton Riisner

(01:52:52):
might be able to contribute.

Speaker 35 (01:52:53):
Yeah, so he's obviously played a lot of football in
his career, started over eighty games, and he's played he's
got position versatility to him. He's played played both left
and right guard, big body, physical as a run blocker,
and he's been efficient in pass protection. So he's a
guy that's been you know, we've been monitoring. We've been
talking to his agent and and have that really positive

(01:53:17):
conversation back and forth throughout the last couple of weeks
and they were open to come in and coming in
for a visit, and so yeah, we're looking forward to
having him in tomorrow. We'll spend some time, he'll spend
some time with our coaches and in personnel personnel department,
and yeah, hopefully it works out for both sides. But
we are excited about having him in. We do think

(01:53:38):
he's a good player and would be it be able
to help us out.

Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
All right, we go.

Speaker 4 (01:53:43):
I think it would be something like this, straight from
the horse's mouth. Hi, Dalton, I'm Duke Tobin. This is
our offensive line coach Scott Peters here as head coach
Zach Taylor. You'll be blocking for the best quarterback in
the NFL? Would you like to sign right here? T
which I think Dalton say, who day, let's get after it.
He already made a video with his wife last night. Yeah,

(01:54:06):
he was like on his way here and said whoda
in the video.

Speaker 21 (01:54:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
I don't feel like he needs to be a very
feel like he wants to play for the Bengals. I
don't think it needs to be a very tough conversation. No,
I wouldn't see I wouldn't think so. Brendan Soorsby has
been named to the twenty twenty five Johnny United Golden
Arm Award wots Soresby, so watch for that. And his
time in Cincinnati has come to an end. The Atlanta
Braves have claimed Jake Frayley off waivers just minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
Well, at least he gets to be reunited with Stuart Fairchild. Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:54:39):
Yeah, what do you make of Jake Frayley's time here?
Obviously went through a very difficult time with his daughter.

Speaker 2 (01:54:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:54:45):
I thought provided some very solid moments as a Cincinnati read,
but really never capitalized on those early years he had here.

Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
Yeah, he was a fine player, He was never anything special.
I think he hit the ball okay, somewhat consistently, but yeah,
he went through a lot of stuff off the field,
and I'm sure that had an effect on him, and
went through a couple of managers and all these different people.
So I never really felt like Jake Freiley was really
good at any one thing. He was just a mid

(01:55:15):
level major league baseball player. I think that makes pretty
good sense. Daniel Jones will be the starter in Indy
over Anthony Richardson. Joe Flakka will be the starter in
Cleveland at age forty. And I believe we have a
quarterback for Notre Dame as well.

Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
CJ. Carr is going to be the Notre Dame quarterback.
I believe that's the grandson of Lloyd Carr, the former
Michigan coach. So, CJ. Carr, you want to talk about
ways to kick off the season next Sunday night, Miami
is hosting Miami's number ten. They're hosting number six Notre Dame.

(01:55:55):
So that'd be a good one on Sunday night next
week as well. Okay, you know they've made that a
night game, not a big noon Sunday kickoff.

Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
Money talks, right, fortunately, right, and it always has a
lot to say big noon.

Speaker 4 (01:56:09):
I just don't get it. I don't get why number
one and three are kicking off the season at noon.
But I guess when you think about what Cincinnati's doing
nine o'clock ESPN, you don't really need anything else on Saturday.
Eyes of the Football. Yeah, that's exactly right. We'll be
on Arrowhead Stadium a week from Thursday. We've got to
get ahead Soresbyhead Stadium, aftab In Austin, Double A's we'll

(01:56:33):
be back more to come since E three sixty thanks
to Penn Station. Back since E three sixty. As we
move along our number three coming near the end of
today's edition of since he three sixty, thanks for listening
here on the Home of the Bengals, let's switch gears
just for a moment, Austin. We obviously talked about the
Reds win last night and the Reds wind draws them
within a game of the wild Card. Mets are going

(01:56:54):
to travel to Washington they take on the Nationals. Reds
again with the Angels tonight, there was a piece of audio.
I believe these are gentlemen in New York.

Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
Yeah, this is s n Y Sports New York.

Speaker 4 (01:57:08):
Now, there are folks out there that believe the Reds
are contenders because of their pitching and because of you know,
if you get into a series with them and you
have to face the likes of a Hunter Green, Andrew Abbott,
maybe a Nicolodolo, who knows who else might be able
to take the mound, that they would be much more
formidable in one of those three game sets to try

(01:57:32):
to knock off. Now, the offense has to go a
long way. But there are folks out there that believe
the Reds are a legitimate contender. From what I gathered
from this audio, the folks in New York do not
see the Reds as a threat.

Speaker 2 (01:57:43):
Well, at least one guy does it.

Speaker 5 (01:57:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:57:44):
I believe his name is grand Dan Graca. I could
be wrong on.

Speaker 4 (01:57:49):
Let's give him his time of day here, let's give
him a spotlight.

Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
This was last night on SNY Dan. How threatened do
you feel by the Reds? Not very threatened right now?
I gotta be honest with you.

Speaker 36 (01:57:59):
I mean they have extremely hard schedule, right I mean
they're going on the West coast this week. He got
stop Sananaheim, you got to stop in Arizona. Who's still
a plucky team right now? And then the Dodgers were
really coming together. And oh, by the way, guess what
when they come back home, they get to go back
out to the West Coast again the week after that.

Speaker 7 (01:58:13):
I think the schedule is way too daunting.

Speaker 36 (01:58:15):
And even if you don't fully believe that the Mets
have figured everything out, guys, I think when you look
at the lay of the land and the other teams
in pursuit, I e. The Reds, I just don't think
they're very threatening.

Speaker 37 (01:58:25):
Can I see something positive aout the Reds real quick?
I Number one, they've got a really good starting pitching,
which is what our New York teams here that we
cover are lacking. Number Two, they have a manager in
Terry Francona, who, if anyone, can navigate a so so
team in that last wildcard spot. If I'm the Mets,
that's not the manager I want.

Speaker 7 (01:58:40):
Chasing me, I'm gonna worry about that.

Speaker 1 (01:58:42):
If the Mets get caught by the Reds, we get
some major That's the different points.

Speaker 2 (01:58:46):
Here, Okay, Tony your reaction.

Speaker 4 (01:58:50):
I thought that the guy that spoke second is the
only one that knows what he's talking about. Because because
of two factors and one we've talked a lot about
going into the year. Terry Francona this time of the
year knows how to navigate this better than most, and
the pitching staff gives them I think a legit heads up. Now,
if you went to the updated remaining strength of schedule,

(01:59:12):
the Reds now have the second remaining strength of schedule,
the Mets remaining schedule thirteenth in baseball. So again there
is work to be done. If you look at what's
coming up with the Reds, we know what this West
coast trip looks like. Two more against the Angels Arizona, LA.
And then they come back home against Saint Louis in Toronto.
Toronto's crushing it, the Mets come into town, and then,

(01:59:36):
as mentioned, another West coast trip with San Diego and
the Athletics. But I like the fact that it feels like,
at least right now, more often than not, when one
of these pitchers for the Reds take the mound, you're
less likely to get blown out in a game. The
Reds are gonna give you a chance with their pitching
to remain in baseball games. Now, can they get enough

(01:59:56):
out of the hitting. We've asked that all season long.
We'll see, but I think they're more than just a
team to to kind of scoff at from a wild
card race.

Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
Yeah, I tend to actually agree with them. I don't
know that the Reds of a threat to the Mets.
I know that's how people think, but I need to
see them consistently for a stretch, offensively be able to
give those pitchers run support. Number one, let's start with

(02:00:24):
the pitching Hunter Green. He's made one start since he's
come back.

Speaker 4 (02:00:28):
It's tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:00:29):
He's done that before, and then we didn't see him
for a month. Nick Lodolo is hurt again. Andrew Abbott
has run out of gas in the past. Nick Martinez,
you have no idea what you're going to get Brady
Singer last night. If he does that every time, they'll
be fine. But there are still yes. While that might
be the strength, there's still a couple of like question

(02:00:52):
marks there, especially with Lodolo and especially with Green. Plus
I don't know if Chase Burns is gonna pitch again
this year. I know Reht Louder's going to pitch again
this year, and I know that bullpen has been taxed.
If they can win games like they did last night,
where you don't have to rely on Ashcraft, Santian and
Pegan to shut a game down. Then I think they'll

(02:01:13):
be fine. But what happened last night has not happened
very much at all this year, where they turned to
different players to be able to shut it down in
the bullpen. And also they are playing the Angels. But
the other thing is the idea of Francona being the
guy to navigate. I do think that's true, and I
think that's a fair point. But you have to be

(02:01:36):
a little bit more aggressive, and when you're aggressive, you
open yourself up. And the Reds don't have a very
big margin for air. I don't know that they have
enough talent. And I don't think the Mets who have
been terrible for the last few weeks are the Mets
that are gonna be over this last month of the season.
They have way too much talent for that. I do
think they'll return to the back of their baseball card.

(02:01:58):
And as you mentioned, thirteen best strength to schedule, it's
really might come down to that series the fifth, sixth,
and seventh of September when the Mets are here. Sure,
I just I.

Speaker 4 (02:02:11):
Look at how they did it last night and again
more often than not this year. That's the type of
pitching that they've gotten that has put them where they are.
But the Reds path it's not going to be easy
because nothing about their offense is easy, right, Right? Like
how much you're gonna rely on Gavin Luck's homering in

(02:02:31):
a game?

Speaker 2 (02:02:32):
Right?

Speaker 4 (02:02:32):
Right? Not many times? That was I believe, his fifth
of the year. How many other games are you going
to have three triples in a game?

Speaker 2 (02:02:38):
Yeah, hasn't happened since twenty.

Speaker 4 (02:02:40):
Nineteen, Austin Hayes, Key, Brian Hayes, Elie de la Cruz.
And wouldn't you know at Austin they actually hit two
sack flies after those triples last night, they actually manufactured
a run. They put the ball in play. I mean,
and this is not a shot against him. Can keep
Brian Hayes keep up at the pace he's played with,

(02:03:01):
especially what he's given them on offense.

Speaker 2 (02:03:02):
Since that's a good point, you know. I remember I
was talking to some people when they traded for Key
Brian Hayes, and I was told that the Reds really
believe they could fix him offensively. Yeah, they don't need
to defensive. I was like, Okay, I'll give it a shot.
We'll see what happens. You know, some guy tweeted at
us last night about how we were so negative about
Key Brian Hayes. Were we negative about the Key Brian

(02:03:24):
Hayes trade. I think we were just like, like, here's
what his stots are. I think we were just like, Okay.
I don't think we're like this guy makes the team worse.
I think we're like, Okay, I get he's better than Espenal,
that's cool. But if he can offensively do what he's done, yeah,
then yeah, I totally get that. I posted this video
earlier this morning and said that I kind of agreed

(02:03:45):
with this guy and our guy Ryan chimed in and
he brought up a good point. The Reds this season
are sixteen and twenty against the National League Central. They
are fifty and forty against everybody else. They have twenty
games remaining against non NL Central opponents, sixteen against the

(02:04:05):
National League Central, including the final thirteen games of the
season against the NL Central. As Ryan says, and I agree,
their ability to right the ship against the NL Central
will determine their fate.

Speaker 4 (02:04:18):
Yeah, it feels again. They're at sixty six right now.
Do you have a number in mind that they would
need to get to down the stretch of how many
more wins you need to see? What like, what where
do we progest? Did we say eighty eight the last time? Yeah,
I mean that would be twenty two more wins?

Speaker 2 (02:04:39):
Yeah, that sounds right, So twenty two out of thirty six?

Speaker 4 (02:04:45):
Yeah? Can you find that on this schedule? And again,
the maddening thing about this team is the struggles they've
had against the.

Speaker 2 (02:04:54):
I don't know if I can, man, Yeah, that's the thing, like,
and I'm not doing that really, not trying to be
a hater, but the Dodgers, the Blue Jays, the Padres,
the Mets, the Cubs, Milwaukee again, even that's the last,
you know, final, the Brewers might have the number one
seed locked up by then.

Speaker 4 (02:05:13):
But still, I mean to put it into perspective, Austin.
Right now, I'm just looking at fangraphs. The Reds have
an eighteen percent chance to make the playoffs. They give
the Brewer or the Mets right now an eighty four
point eighty four percent chance, Yeah, Padres ninety five. So
just looking off fangraphs, the numbers say, much like we

(02:05:35):
heard in that audio, that the Brewers are going to
hold onto the wild card. They can't play worse than
they've played down the stretch. And for the Reds, I
guess at the end of this, Austin, you go back to,
how many specific games are you going to be able
to point to if they come up two or three
games short sure that they let get away from them
this season? Yeah, and you hate to do that because
they have stolen some games as well, but they've lost

(02:05:57):
more games. It feels like this year that after the
lost we literally had the conversation, that's one you can't lose,
that's one that can come back to haunt you. Yep.
And unfortunately for this team that's been more often than not.
As it relates to the Reds.

Speaker 2 (02:06:12):
Tonight's game, you mentioned Hunter Green starts. You're gonna be
opposed by Kyle Hendricks. Remember him from the Cubs. Now,
he's done pretty dog gone good against the Reds in
his career. But Key Brian Hayes, we were just talking
about him. How about this in his career against Kyle Hendricks,
Key Brian Hayes has seen him in twenty one at bats,

(02:06:33):
He's hitting four to twenty nine against him. He has
two homers and four RBI in those twenty one at bats.
His ops is one point two three nine. So Key
Brian Hayes he might hit lead off tonight.

Speaker 4 (02:06:48):
Against Key Bryant. All right, all right, that is what's
happening tonight. What's happening next, We'll get to quick hits
and then we'll well, we're gonna handle quick hits.

Speaker 2 (02:06:58):
I have a question for you in quick hits about
what on what I'm about the experience tonight?

Speaker 4 (02:07:02):
Okay you and as for tonight, you and I are
handling quick hits. Chad Brendle's in for Moegger from three
to six. All of this happens next on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to Penn Station.

Speaker 1 (02:07:13):
It's time for Sincy three sixty quick hits on ESBN fifteen.

Speaker 4 (02:07:18):
Moe's not here. We're winding down a two sound afternoon
practice or not afternoon practice.

Speaker 2 (02:07:24):
Moved it.

Speaker 4 (02:07:25):
I'm thinking of practices. Bengals don't practice today, They're back
at it tomorrow. All see there, it's a one thirty
practice start tomorrow, so it's a little bit of a
hybrid training camp coverage day. We're not doing ten to
noon because they practice at one thirty. However, noon to
three will be at the practice fields and then MO
will be there from three to six.

Speaker 2 (02:07:45):
Does that mean practice? Does that mean I get to
come come on down? Really?

Speaker 4 (02:07:49):
Why not? Why not?

Speaker 2 (02:07:51):
Would be kind of cool the last day. That'd be
cool if I was allowed to come.

Speaker 4 (02:07:55):
And shout out to the Bengals too for making right.
There was a day that things got mixed up a
little bit. Yeah, they said, hey, we'll add another one now.
Communications It's going to be interesting to see what kind
of tone tomorrow's practice comes west, little boy, especially on
the defensive side of the ball. We've talked about those questions,
We've talked about the offense, and probably I think in

(02:08:16):
my lifetime, the most stressful quarter of a preseason game
I've ever witnessed. I don't want to do that again.
Surely I'm not gonna have to do that on Saturday.
But as we discussed earlier, that was a high stress
situation last night, and I'm glad we are on the
other end of that. Yes, and now we can just
figure out what in the world to do with this defense. Yeah,

(02:08:38):
what did you have to what you mentioned something in
the last segment that team you want to bring to
light here.

Speaker 2 (02:08:42):
I'm going to a minor league baseball game tonight. Oh,
I'm going up to Columbus the Clippers play the Omaha
Storm Chase. Okay, it's dim a dog night wow at
Huntington bank Field or Park or whatever the place? That is,
How many dim of dogs do you think you could house?

Speaker 11 (02:09:01):
Man?

Speaker 4 (02:09:02):
Now, I am. I'm obviously a little bit weirder when
it comes to food. If it's a legit, Like you
take the first bite and you know you're biting into
a good dog. Yeah they are I think six or seven.
Oh yeah, comfortably.

Speaker 2 (02:09:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:09:18):
Now there's been dogs I bite into it. I'm like, nope,
way out.

Speaker 2 (02:09:22):
If you think about the I could do the nine
to nine to nine challenge for ninety cents tonight, right,
I mean, that's it's it is. It is tempting. Not
while you're heading up it's not. Well, one of my friends.

Speaker 4 (02:09:34):
It's just hutting out the diamond dogs one of my
friend's birthdays and they're like, you know, trying to figure
out what to do, and they're like, oh crap, the
Clippers have diamond dog.

Speaker 31 (02:09:44):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:09:44):
I was like, okay, let's do it.

Speaker 4 (02:09:46):
There any players on the roster that you're looking out for.

Speaker 2 (02:09:49):
I don't know who's on the Clippers because the Guardians
just called up their best players, so he's with them now.
And I don't know who the Omaha storm Chasers are
the affiliation? Yeah, who do the I should look that up.
I should have known that. I really was hoping it
would be the Bats get a chance to see you know,
Blake Dunn in person.

Speaker 4 (02:10:10):
That wouldn't have been bad.

Speaker 2 (02:10:12):
They are the Royals affiliate. Okay, the old storm Chasers. Okay,
So how about the thought Austin looks like they have
former Red Ryan Hendricks on the team. All is that correct?
Do he play for the russ Kyle Hendricks?

Speaker 4 (02:10:25):
I thought he's pitching Hendricks Kyle probably being the Miners
after the Reds beat him up tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
Yeah, Ryan Hendricks played for the Reds.

Speaker 4 (02:10:33):
Do you know have you realized we are days away
from the opening of the college football season?

Speaker 2 (02:10:38):
Is it really already?

Speaker 15 (02:10:39):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (02:10:40):
Do you know that? On Saturday Saturday noon live from Dublin, Ireland.

Speaker 2 (02:10:45):
Oh so they are playing one over there?

Speaker 4 (02:10:47):
Yes, twenty two ranked Iowa State Matt Campbell. Remember how
his stock was sky high for years.

Speaker 2 (02:10:53):
Uh huh.

Speaker 4 (02:10:54):
They take on seventeenth ranked Kansas State. It's a big
twelve top twenty five battle that is kicking off the
college football season in Dublin, Ireland.

Speaker 2 (02:11:03):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (02:11:04):
Now it's one thing to ease into the season. You
give me top twenty five football to ease in the season.
I'm all about it.

Speaker 2 (02:11:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:11:10):
This of course leads to next week, next Thursday. Of
course Cincinnati Nebraska Arrowhead Stadium, Miami Place, Wisconsin on Thursday night,
and of course big noon Ohio Stadium kickoff number one,
verse number three? Have you allowed yourself? Have you allowed yourself?

(02:11:30):
We've talked about this before Big noon kickoff? I think
is the dumbest thing out there. Yes, the fact that
I can't ease into my first full college football Saturday
and build up to like a seven o'clock Ohio State
Texas start drives me nuts.

Speaker 2 (02:11:46):
I agree, trust me. The fact that.

Speaker 4 (02:11:48):
You throw that in at noon? What are we doing?
What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (02:11:53):
Yeah, I'm with you, I'm with you. In the Ohio
State's made a bunch of changes to try to drum
up the atmosphere at that Ohio because it's quarter because
it's pretty much pointless, like all the big games are
going to be played at noon, so they're trying to
make these changes to at least get people excited and
get people loud. It's tough, so we'll see how it goes.

(02:12:13):
But I've just only just started to get excited about Ohio.

Speaker 4 (02:12:16):
Do you feel good about saying?

Speaker 2 (02:12:18):
No, I don't feel good about it at all. But
about Arch, they have Jeremiah Smith. They do how many
he's he gets in game one? Uh? Fifteen at least.
If it's not fifteen, what's the point. How many targets
are twenty at least?

Speaker 4 (02:12:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:12:37):
You have to Yeah, I mean the offense should be
a cheat code built around him.

Speaker 4 (02:12:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 32 (02:12:42):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:12:42):
And they have like a really deep offensive line.

Speaker 4 (02:12:44):
Which what about the running back?

Speaker 2 (02:12:46):
This is the first time I've experienced that as a
football fan, maybe ever. So I'm excited about that, But
they still Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:12:55):
Because about Ohio State. Last night, when I watched h
Quinnchawn Jukins for Ohio State and then I started thinking
about him running for Cleveland through some of the holes
that the Washington running backs right for last night, I
was nervous.

Speaker 2 (02:13:07):
It looks like Quinn Shawn's not going to play football
this season. So Jerome Ford I thought he was hurt.

Speaker 4 (02:13:12):
Oh man, So who's gonna be the running back in Cleveland?

Speaker 2 (02:13:15):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:13:16):
Well, I mean, I got the depth chart right here.
It doesn't have a uh, it doesn't have anything by
Jerome Ford's name.

Speaker 2 (02:13:25):
Okay, so the charges dropped, he did, but they Adam
Schefter said yesterday he and the Browns have still been
unable to reach a deal and may not until the
end of any NFL investigation. Oh so the NFL is
still doing their thing. Oh yeah, okay, which that could
carry carry over for a little while. Okay, maybe maybe

(02:13:49):
I missed the Jerome Ford is recovered. I saw Corey
Kiner got hurt.

Speaker 7 (02:13:52):
The other day.

Speaker 4 (02:13:52):
Corey Kiner did get hurt.

Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
Now we know the severity of that. I forgot that.

Speaker 4 (02:13:57):
I don't know yet now I believe, Yeah, I don't.
I don't know. I don't. I'll have to check in
on Jerome Ford.

Speaker 2 (02:14:05):
Okay, but say a prayer for Alec Pierce as well,
because Daniel Jones is his starting quarterback.

Speaker 4 (02:14:10):
Now, yeah, that's not ideal. But whoever, this running back
for Cleveland's gonna be might be a first round pick
in my fantasy.

Speaker 2 (02:14:17):
They might have a package for Shador just to come
in and well.

Speaker 4 (02:14:20):
They're gonna do his zone read. I saw the conversation.
They might carry four quarterbacks on the active roster, so
you got to use one of them. From a mobile standpoint.

Speaker 2 (02:14:28):
What is Let's let's play this game right now before
we get out of here. Over under Joe Flacco rushing
yards week one, four and a half over, You're gonna
go over? Yes, so should I raise it seven and
a half over?

Speaker 4 (02:14:45):
He's gonna get at least double double dates you think,
so I do. There's even when he's kneeling it out
at the end of the game. Yes. Also we'll see.

Speaker 2 (02:14:56):
Ritter went off last night, kneel down. Else we're gonna
see four full quarters of Desmond.

Speaker 4 (02:15:02):
Wait for Saturday. Quick turnaround back at training camp noon
to three tomorrow. Chad Brendle is next. We're done. Austin
go house. Some dogs man, there's only a dime, man
dime of Dog's Go House. Thanks for listening, Storm Chaser
on the ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Have a

(02:15:23):
great rest of your Tuesday.
