(00:38):

why Austin? Why a week out? Oh? We're a week out.
One week from today, Arrowhead Stadium will be eagerly awaiting
the bus ride to the stadium for the Bearcats and
the Cornhuskers ESPN nine o'clock start. What better way to

(01:01):
kick off your college football season? Ideally, the Bearcat's gonna
win and Kegan's gonna tell us how they do it today.
Oh okay, all right, does he know that I think
so okay, I would expect him to know that Walls
have to ask Keegan about basketball and what they do
now with the absence of digital James, we'll get to
all of that. We'll keep the UC flair going at
the end of our number three, not at the end,
but right before quick kits. Today we got Bob Manjen

(01:24):
from UC and Novacare. We had a written submission this
week Austin. Someone asked, can you please ask Bob man
Jean about blisters? Yes, Nick Lidolo dealing with the blister.
We'll ask Bob Manjean to explain more. We have all
of that. We have quick kits later this afternoon. We've
got your phone calls five one, three, seven, four, nine,

(01:48):
fifteen thirty. We'll talk Bengals, We'll talk Reds and a
whole lot more in between. FC Cincinnati news happening today
as well. DeAndre Jedlin has been trading at Austin. That's right,
DeAndre Jedlin. Yeah, Man has been traded to Real Salt
Lake in exchange four three hundred and four thousand, seven

(02:11):
hundred dollars.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
That's what's crazy about just a random numbers, those types
of numbers and They all make sense to the people
who cover the teams, but most fans are like, what
three hundred and four thousand, seven hundred Let's tell that
seven hundred in as part of the processing fee that
is going to be used in twenty twenty five general
allocation money.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yes, gam Jam.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
What I would like to know, ton is like, is
this the type of money when a player in baseball
is traded for cash considerations?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Like?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Is this the specific number? That's a good point, Like
I don't know, like the the actual money that trades
or switches hands in a cash considerations type of trade?
Of course, would it be something like three hundred and
four thousand, seven hundred dollars?

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, I want to know what happens with that seven hundred.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
I think we should demand that financial cash considerations trades
are made in the public.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Open the books. Open the book.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
I want to know if you trade a high a
prospect and cash considerations, was it one hundred and twenty
five thousand dollars?

Speaker 5 (03:15):
Come?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Was it two hundred and forty dollars? The book is flight?
What exactly was it?

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yep? I want to know. I think those are all
fair questions, Thank you, thank you. These are trying to
find the answers. Yes, college football weekend ahead, Top twenty
five matchup Iowa State and Kansas State this Saturday. Yes,
that means on Saturday of this week, Austin, you can
wake up, you can get yourself ready, and you can

(03:41):
watch college football starting at noon. Can't wait, can't wait.
Now there's going to be a little warmer on Saturday.
But do you see what happens when we get into
next week? Load of mid seventies football weather? Dare we
say it? Back in the Queen City, football weather is
all weather. I love it. I cannot wait.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Somebody you know I confession. Sometimes I schedule tweets, and
I will schedule tweets for all different times throughout the worl.
I've never scheduled a tweet, that's not surprising. But anyways,
one of the tweets I will schedule is football weather.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
That's all.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
It says, yep, random times, no matter what, because the
point is all weather is football weather. That's the joke,
and it's also the way I believe. And so one day,
one of those tweets that I had forgotten about sins out.
It's nine thousand degrees outside and somebody's like, this is

(04:38):
not football. Listen here, pal it is all weather is
football weather.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
This is the heart of it all. This is where
it all begins. There is football tonight, Thursday night football
Steelers Panthers, Patriots, Giants tonight. Oh my gosh, if you're
so inclined to watch Steelers Panthers, Steelers Panthers, how about that?
Oh wow? How about that nice full NFL weekend? Obviously
preseason week number three, and then you get that awful,

(05:06):
awful time in between the end of the preseason and
the start of the regular season. But there will be
a lot of build up that we can cover as
it relates to the start of the NFL season. How
about this for build up, Austin. It's been made official.
Cats and Cards, right, Pat Kelsey's gonna bring his Louisville
Cardinals to the Heritage Bank Arena. UC will face Louisville

(05:28):
in the Hoops Classic in partnership with care Source on Friday,
November twenty first at Heritage Bank Arena. Tickets will be
on sale to the public a week from today. Louisville,
You see, rivalry is back. The keg of nails is
what we used to play for in football, that's right.
Not sure what it is in basketball, but the keg

(05:51):
of nails is what you see in Louisville used to
be speaking of college football. Really really good story on
ESPN dot com today. I'm sure you didn't read it,
but it talks about Vince Young and his rise to
be in a Texas legend. Do you know where that began?
Where did that begin? A Ohio State? Really really good story.

(06:11):
Jake Trotter wrote it, Yeah, but it was fine. It
was no, this is I like this? So he said,
they played and I believe the Rose Bowl the year before.
This is Vince Young talking and coming into his senior year.
He felt like a lot of the players were kind
of feeling themselves a little bit, he said, But quote,

(06:34):
that type of character is going to get your ass
kicked by Ohio State. He said, we need to button
it up and go to work. So he wrote a
note on a whiteboard in the locker room as the
priests or as the off season got underway. It said, quote,
if you want to beat Ohio State, meet me on
the practice field at seven o'clock tonight. And they said

(06:55):
that no one missed a summer workout after that no
one missed the voluntary night practices. Michael Griffin, the Longhorn safety,
said that Ohio State team was stacked. Yeah that year,
one of thirteen future round first round picks that appeared
in the game. But yes, they obviously won. They go

(07:18):
on to obviously the game everyone remembers with Vince Young
and Reggie Bush? Is that the game in Columbus? Yes?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Now, was that the game that Kwan Cosby went in?
Nuclear might have been? You've ember Kuwan Cosby hit the Kwan, Yeah,
hit the Kwan Cosby.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
He hit like a yeah, bringing up a tough time.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Okay, but this I'm looking at this is okay two
thousand and nine. This was the Fiesta Bowl where Kwan
do Yeah. So it's not that, so it's not this one.
But do you want to hear this line from Kwan
Cosby please? Bengals legend Kwan Cosby fourteen catches, one hundred
and seventy one yards, two touchdowns. Oh meanwhile, Jordan Shipley,

(08:03):
another Bengals legend, had ten catches for seventy eight yards.
Those two combined for twenty five catches for two hundred
and forty yards.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Can you buy chance? Recall? What the name of the player.
What year was this? This was two thousand and five
that this game happened. Yeah, do you know a name
of a player that had a big game that I
think was a little bit under the radar. Do you

(08:32):
remember Limas Snead? Yeah? I remember kind of touchdown in
that game. Yeah, September tenth.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
You go up seventy five north past Sydney pass, watta
CANETI you get to Limas?

Speaker 2 (08:42):
There you go. San Antonio Holmes was the leading receiver
in that game. Uh huh, san Antonio Holmes was leading
receiver in a lot of Again, Troy Smith was five
for eleven for seventy eight yards and a touchdown. He
won the Heisman the next year. Yeah, he wanted to
go to that one.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Still wet behind the ears. I think wasn't Justin Zwick
on that team?

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Justin Swick. He wasn't no good, he was terrible.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Antonio Pittman, I believe, I'm trying to think back, but
I don't remember having fun Negat limused.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Billy Pittman went for five catches in one hundred and
thirty yards. Was Roy Hall playing in that game? I
don't know. I see Jamal Charles did. What about Anthony Gonzalez.
Anthony Gonzalez was the second leading receiver was he went
on to be thirty three yards. Roy Hall had nineteen
receiving yards. Yeah, that sounds about Limus Swede. Tamal Charles
ran it and caught it for Texas that night, and

(09:31):
Billy Pittman, Oh boy, Billy Pittman five for one thirty.
Vince Young carried it for seventy six yards in that game.
He did turn it over twice, but they did beat
fourth ranked Ohio State. They brought this up because of
they think they think some similarities between obviously this year
arch Manning Texas where their ranked going to Ohio State
for Week one. So I'm glad I could bring that
memory back for you today. Thank you, I appreciate it.

(09:53):
I was.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
I've been like the last week or so really trying
to dive in and trying to get excited for Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Mmmm. I'm dreading the Texas game really. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I know Ohio State is favored, you can understand that. Yeah,
but I think Texas right now might be a better team. Okay,
And there's quarterback questions and there's a little bit more
continuity Now, Ohio State does have the two best players
in college football, Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Third Downs, So

(10:25):
I hope that it's going to be a blowout in
Higo State is going to handle them with these But.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
You now, what would be a bigger statement. Ohio State
blows out Texas or UC beats Nebraska a bigger statement probably, see,
I think it would be Ohio State. Well we agree
to disagree. Is a statement for UC or a statement
for Nebraska? I think it's a statement for what are
your actual expectations you see to win the game by
how much? Close?

Speaker 3 (10:49):
It doesn't matter because I've seen a few people, you know,
do their college football playoff predictions and a couple of
them have Nebraska in there. So if we're talking about
a college football playoff team, they probably wouldn't lose to Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Right, We'll see, we'll find out. Okay, what's the current line? Seven?
Oh boy, went from six and a half to seven
and you expect them to win? Yes, straight up money line? Okay.
Last night the Yankees tied a major League Baseball mark.
They hit five more home runs. The night before they
hit nine the Tampa Bay Race in Tampa fourteen home

(11:28):
runs over a two game stretch. Shoho Tani got rocked
by the Rockies last night. Rocked five earned runs, nine hits,
and four innings, and he got hitting the like.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
He took a foul ball. I heard this morning. I
was listening to to Dan Patrick and they said yesterday
sho Hao Tani's odds to win the National League MVP
were minus eight thousand. Yikes, after that performance, their minus
six thousand. Oh oh so h oh schwarp keeps hitting

(12:00):
long bomb and someone put the pressure on and show
hey proves he can't pitch.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
What a bust he's been. Huh oh Tani. Yeah, the
Mets lost last night, which was good because that means
that the Reds had an opportunity to tie them in
the wildcard. Unfortunately, the Reds did lose as well. We'll
dive into what happened in that game. But Mets lost
to the Nationals, which means that the separation is still
just one game. Reds don't play tonight. They'll take on

(12:28):
the Arizona Diamondbacks in a series starting tomorrow, while the
Mets they go at four h five today against the
Washington Nationals and look to try to find a way
to win that series. So end of today, Reds are
either at worst a game and a half out or
at best a half game out of the National League
Wild Card.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
But we've got to take advantage of that stuff. Man,
when the Mets lose to bad teams, you gotta take advantage.
And then one couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
We're gonna talk to it felt like there were so
many opportunities early in that game last night that the
Reds didn't capitalize on. Yep, offensively as well. We'll talk
about the Reds. We'll talk about what happened last night
on the road in Anaheim. NFL news, Josh Allen is

(13:11):
not going to play one preseason snap. Coach Sean McDermott
said during his press conference earlier today that for the
first time in his career, he will sit out the
entire preseason for the Buffalo Bills. Make what you want
out of that, But that's just where some NFL news
is right now. I'm just gonna say something.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yeah, a thought that I've had throw it out there
is watching Hard Knocks through the first three episodes with
the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen is obviously the star, but
you know who else is a big star.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Joe Brady. Yeah, remember that name, Joe Brady. The name
Joe Brady couldn't have been any hotter here.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Who, as you know, was the offensive coordinator of the
twenty nineteen LSU Tigers, an offense that features Jamar Chase,
Joe Burrow and others.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
An offense that almost didn't have Joe Burrow. I will
say this, Joe will say this.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
If h Oh coming around, I love this. If the
Bengals performed poorly, and if Zach Taylor is fired, and
I do not believe he should be because I believe
this roster is not his fault, but if Zach Taylor
is fired, Joe Brady would have to be towards the

(14:31):
top of the list. Look at you now, you've gone
from I have been very I understand that this is
the Bills get the final say, I mean this is,
but I have been there is very impressed from you
with Joe Brady. From all that I have heard and
seen on hard Knocks.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
This is massive, from having Zach Taylor's back to already
having his replacement.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
No, no, no, we're not gonna go twisting my words.
But you know some of those guys believe you know.
Now here's the other part too. Some coaches believe they
get on Hard Knocks they're going to use it to
get a job, and maybe that's at play here with
Joe Brady, but he seems like a pretty genuine guy.
And they showed a scene of him in a meeting

(15:15):
room with his other coaches, watching film with the coaches
and explaining to them what he wants them to teach,
what he wants them to coach, specific things, which I
have not seen that on a Hard Knocks before. I
know that that happens, but I've not seen it on
a Hard Knocks before. I like the way Joe Brady
carries himself. I've had some doubts about him because he
had so many different stops over the course of his career.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Still super young, still.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Very young, bright guy. I'm sure has learned a lot
from Sean McBer. I'm not calling for Zach Taylor to
be fired, and I stand by this almost Zach would
have to be egregiously bad.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
They start one in three year on the phone with
Joe Brady. I don't think they should be, but I
think they would be not them, would you me?

Speaker 4 (16:02):
No?

Speaker 2 (16:03):
This season, I'm already saying, hold on, here we go.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I'm already gonna say it has to be egregious from
Zach specifically for me to call for him to be fired.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Okay, all right, he.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Has nothing to do with the nonsense that is Trey Hendrickson,
the nonsense that is the offensive line, and the nonsense
that is developing the defensive lineman yeap, all right, this
season and the roster issues. I do not blame on Zach.
Does he play a role, Yes, of course he does.

(16:38):
He's it's on him to figure out how to coach
with the group that he's been given and if he can't,
at the bare minimum, get them back to the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
I think there's an issue we're going to talk about
this Bengals team and something that Lewis Riddick had to
say yesterday. We'll get to that in just a few moments.
We'll break down the reds. There's also new college football
Playoff Selection Committee metrics being used. Sure we do it. Yeah,
now we're computers. Now we're just using enhanced metrics. First
of six rank rankings will be announced on November fourth,

(17:11):
using enhanced metrics to help evaluate strength of scheduling. How
teams perform against their slate. The Kurt Signetti rule unbelievable.
We'll talk thebo Why do we keep tinkering with this
because college football can't make up their mind. They changed
the rules every year because there's nobody that's actually making
no leaders when they don't have a leader. This is

(17:32):
what happens. We need leadership. We need leadership in the
worst way. We'll be back. Let's break down the the
Reds from last night, and then we'll dive into some
more Bengals and we'll lead up to Kee and Nickoson.
At one o'clock today, it's ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station,
a service of Skyline Chili on the home of the Bengals,
the ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 6 (17:49):
Hey Alexa, what's going on in the NFL?

Speaker 7 (17:52):

Speaker 8 (18:33):
Pitch in the dirtos by as Another run scores, Tarcosen
scores a curveball in the dirt right by Diaz down
to second, Girl's Green for nothing.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Tigers All right, Detroit, Stand Up.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Detroit scored on wild pitches twice in the first inning.
Last stand Up Detroit, they beat the Tigers Detroit.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
That's right. Diamondbacks walked off the Guardians as well last
night on a pop up. If you keep track with
anything going on in the American lega of the Hard Hunt,
awesome to see the Guardians lose. I just root against them. Yep.
I got some latest news on Trey Hendrickson. We'll get
to in a few minutes. We'll talk a little bit
about the Reds and the new news news. No, it's
nothing crazy, real quick Reds last night one. I don't

(19:25):
mind the late starts I know that's not how the
majority of folks believe. I don't mind when they start late.
I said that last night too. I found myself just
relaxing and watching the Reds.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
The amount of stuff that I could get done prior
to the game start, yeah, and then settle in.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Now, for me specifically, I work every day till roughly
six o'clock, So most of the time during the summer,
I have to, like, if I want to get anything done,
it has to be either before work or in that
forty minutes afterwards because I have to watch the Reds.
So oftentimes I just, you know, I want some time

(20:01):
in between to like turn my brain off and then
I can watch the Reds later. So nine to thirty
is almost perfect. You know, it felt like Austin last
night that would be great.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah. It just in last night's game, it felt like
too many opportunities that were missed by the Reds. Top
of the second, you get first and third, Travino grounds
into a double play. You also had Austin Hayes let
off the third with a double and then you go
back to back strikeouts. Marte does get him in, but

(20:36):
there were too many opportunities last night where this team
did not get the job done with runners in scoring position.
As a team, they were two of ten last night.
That is not going to get it done when you're
talking about playoff runs and playoff baseball and scoreboard watching.

(20:56):
And as you knew last night, the Mets had already
lost the game, so you knew you were playing for
an opportunity to actually draw even in the wild card,
and you wasted another good one. Austin, we talked yesterday
about what do you get from Nick Martinez last night?
Six innings, two hits, one run, seven strikeouts. You could
not have asked for anything else. The offense failed to
get runners in when they had him in scoring position

(21:18):
again two for ten on the night, only run was
driven in by Noelve Marte. He had another multi hit game.
Keep Brian Hayes had another multi hit game, Austin Hayes,
Miguel andrewharr and TJ. Friedel also with hits last night,
but in the end, not enough. I thought, for the
most part, the Reds out played the Angels, but it

(21:39):
fell apart late, and it fell apart in the hands
of Graham Ashcraft two thirds of an inning, three hits,
also walked about her gave up the earned run that
ends up being the winning run, and it brought the
statistic out there. Austin, we talked about this bullpen. We
talk about where the bullpen is out, how much they've
been used? Can they hold on? Graham Ashcraft in his

(22:01):
last fifteen games not good. Fourteen innings, nineteen hits, seven walks,
and eight earned runs given up fourteen innings, nineteen hits
and seven walks and seven walks. I'm actually how many strikeouts.
It's actually I don't know how many strike ups, but
it's actually amazing that he's only given up eight earned

(22:21):
runs with nineteen hits and seven walks.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Right, and I'm sure there's some inherited runners that he
has allowed. Yeah, in that he has thirteen strikeouts in
those fourteen and a third innings. You know, it's on
the hold on walks and hits per innings pitched.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
One point eight to one. Crazy. That is awful, yep,
it is. It kind of falls into what Moe was
talking about yesterday, though. You know you're you're throwing in
pivotal playoff baseball situations, Graham Ashcraft, Luis, may you know
this bullpen for as good. But as the run has

(23:00):
been it feels like the bullpen has taxed. It feels
like the bullpen's almost holding on. Yeah, for dear life.
At this point, you do have some strong members down there,
but the inability of this team to strengthen the bullpen
could very well be what comes to bite him here.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
I get where he's coming from, and he's right like,
you can only pitch the guys that you have. Yeah,
but in big moments, Graham Ashcraft can't be the guy
right now. He can't be the guy. He's just not
very I've always been an anti Graham Ashcraft guy. I've
said it many many times. I do not believe in
Graham Ashcraft. Here's some further proof of that. In high

(23:38):
leverage moments this season, opponents are hitting two eighty three
off of him, two eighty three. Gosh, he's allowed four
doubles in that time. Twenty six total hits. These is
just in thirty games. Twenty six hits in thirty games

(23:58):
where he's pitched in high leverage.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Thats man just not good enough. No, it's not like
and I've and the opportunity you had, there's somebody been
so many opportunities they've wasted already and you could have
drawn drawn even last night in the wild card.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Yeah, that's the thing that just drives me nuts. Like
if you know that, and you're fear Terry Francona, you
know you can draw even Ton with an off day today,
With an off day today, you went with Ashcraft again
instead of Tony Santien, Right, And I get it. You know,
the game was tied and you'd trying to save those
guys for when you do have the lead. I understand

(24:35):
all of that, but sometimes you just got to get
to that point and figure it out later.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
But I'm in the same boat though, when you talk
about an off day today, you exhaust everything you can
to win the game last night. Yeah, and we've seen
him do this in the past.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
What was it when they faced the uh was it
the Diamondbacks or the Rays or whatever? That was where
he went all in on that Sunday to get the
swimp right. So yeah, Ashcraft to me, eventually teams figure
out your pitches and how they move and what they do.

(25:10):
And all we've ever heard about with Graham Ashcraft is
how nasty he is in the movement that he has. Well,
he's been in the big leagues a lot. He's pitching
over one hundred games. Guys have figured him out. He
hasn't changed. He throws the same two pitches. He has
no real off speed pitch. He can't get enough swing
and miss in my opinion. I know some of the

(25:31):
data would suggest that he does get swing and miss,
but he walks way too many guys. It's just over
the course of his career, Graham Ashcraft. In twenty twenty three,
he had a four point seven to six ERA. In
twenty four he had a five point two four ERA.
This year has been the best three point eighty six
out of the bullpen. But for his career he's got

(25:53):
a four to seven six RA. He's just not that good.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
He's just a guy, crazy, just a guy. Indeed, Uh,
you gotta have more.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Than two pitches in today's baseball, correct, But whatever, let's.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Uh, let's grab Mark's call and then when we get back,
we'll switch gears to some Bengals as well. What's up? Mark?

Speaker 9 (26:14):
Hey, you y'all pretty much hit on the point that
I was gonna make after watching that game last night. Uh,
you know when they bring game Graham Trashcraft.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
You.

Speaker 9 (26:28):
Know, every time he comes in the game, you know
he's giving up something. It's never one, two, three, And
I just feel like at this point, because that was
more like what a playoff game would be. Like that
game last night, you know you gotta you gotta go
with somebody else.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
You've got to you've got to do whatever you can
with the off day to day to win last.

Speaker 9 (26:48):
Night or or my suggestion, I got two suggestions. I'm
gonna go out on a limb on one of them.
But the first one is, if your picture is doing
good after six simmons, you might have to put him
out there and try to get an extra in and
out of it. With the with the way the bullpen

(27:10):
has been passed, because to me, bullfan pictures are better
the less you have to use them. The more you
have to use them, they get exposed. The second my
second point is I'm gonna go on out on the
limb if they're not gonna bring up South Stewart man
and they're gonna leave them in the minor leagues. If
they're not gonna do it, I think Gavin Up should

(27:33):
play every day in bad.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Second believe South Stewart homer again last night and played second.

Speaker 9 (27:39):
Yeah, it's something about when he bat second and they
put Matt McClain ninth. When they have him in the lineup,
the offense seems to go a little better because him
and Friedo can situationally hit better than anybody else. And
then that way you can put you can keep Marte

(28:01):
in the middle.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Of that lineup. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (28:04):
Yeah, even because I look at it like this, even
if it's a left handed pitcher pitching, and I know
they don't like to play looks against lefties, he's gonna
be out of the game in about the field for
sixth inning, so and then the rest of the game,
you know he's gonna be facing the righty, so he's
only gonna he's only gonna face that left handed picture

(28:26):
maybe three times at the most. So so that would
be that would be my set lineup going going forward,
because you know, they gotta they gotta score, they gotta
score more runs. I mean the picture to make the problem.
I never I never complained about pitching. I'm always about

(28:48):
the lineup. So I'll get off and listen to the
rest of the show.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Thank you, Mark, appreciate the phone call. You know, Austin,
I think to Mark's point, Martinez finished with ninety pitches
last night, and in the second, his final inning, he
got a strikeout, a foul out, and got Mike Trout
the ground out. He went one two three in the sixth,
and he was at ninety pitches. Do you think there
was any thought of bringing him out in the seventh.

(29:12):
I don't think so. And then maybe you go Barlow
in the eighth, who's been good for this team. Yeah,
I guess it's possible. Yeah, I just if he had
given up, you know, a base runner or two in
the in the sixth, and it felt like he was
kind of limping in. But I thought he'd looked good
in the sixth. I agree, I thought he'd looked good.
In the fifth. He went one, two three, So you know,
he gives up the homer in the fourth, and then

(29:32):
he retires the Angels in order in the fifth and
in the sixth, and at ninety pitches, they pull him
out when your bullpen's already taxed. So there might be
something there from Mark on, maybe you do leave him
in and give him some more opportunities. Red's off today.
They start with the Diamondbacks tomorrow. We'll talk more about
that when we get there. When we get back, let's
switch gears. Let's talk some Bengals. Let's talk some football

(29:54):
next on the Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of Skyline Chile, the planet
with it in Illinois. Welcome back since he three sixty

(30:17):
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station and a service of
our good friends at Skyline Chile. Anytime you're feeling good
and hungry, it's always Skyline time. Happy to happy to
be here, happy to have you along with us. We'll
get to your talkbacks an hour number two. Keegan Nickoson
will kick things off as well with us in our

(30:39):
number two to talk about some UC football a week
from today, and hour three we'll spend more time on
the Cincinnati Bengals as well, including what Lewis Rittick had
to say about this organization right now and where they're
at going forward. There was also this Austin there is
a man. A Hondo Carpon is a Las Vegas Raiders

(31:02):
beat writer for Sports Illustrated, and he tweeted yesterday that
the Raiders are considered, if there is one, as a
front runner to land Trey Hendrickson it said.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Quote.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
In a conversation with an NFL executive on Tuesday, I
was informed that quote. I have no doubt the Raiders
are the front runners. Tom Brady and Mark Davis want
to win now. They have no fear when it comes
to making bold moves. And Hendrickson that move is the
mentality of Pete Carroll. He's not afraid of anything that
can improve the team. He he's not getting any younger. Agreed. Now, Again,
this is from a Las Vegas Raiders beat writer for

(31:38):
Sports Illustrated. So I don't know how much traction is there,
and at the end of the day, I don't know
how much validity there is if the Bengals are actually
truly listening to offers. Let's start with this, Austin, Should
the Bengals be listening to offers for Trey Hendrickson? Yes?
Where do those offers start for you? Does it have
to be an immediate impact player that's returning, Yeah, and

(32:00):
a future pick? Yeah, second round, third round, depending on
the player you get at least a two. It really
depends on the player that you get. If you're a
team like the Raiders, would Trey Hendrickson make sense? Yeah?
Opposite of Max Crosby. Correct, you just gave Max Crosby
a lot of money. We've talked about the Raiders, and

(32:23):
I know you you've been high on the Raiders now
for over a year.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
Well, I changed a little bit because some of my
favorite parts of their team, yeah, left this offseason, especially
on their defense, and that's what happens. And you have
a whole regime, regime change change, that's hard to say.
Regime three to two one, yes, regime change, Yes, to
get back with Jermaine Pratt, right, he's a Raider, but

(32:48):
you get Gino Smith, Ashton gent Ja, Kobe Myers, they're
brock Bauers year he had.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
They're a I think they're a good offense. I think
they can be better with Pete Carroll and Gino Smith.
And you still got Max Crosby up there. That to
me would be a team. If you're looking at their
division as well. You know, people are curious as to
what the Kansas City Chiefs can do. It's a big
year for Denver in year two of bon Knicks Chargers.

(33:16):
You think they're in the right spot. But I can't
express how difficult it is losing a guy like Rashaun Slater.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
Right now, the Raiders have thirty four point eight million
dollars in caps back you go next year seventy eight,
the year after that one hundred and fifty six, and
that is with Max Crosby on the books and inked
up for.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
The foreseeable future.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Now they don't have a quarterback under a huge deal,
Gino Smith is making i think twenty four to twenty
five million over the next couple of years, and there's
a big bonus involved in that, So that takes away
from the cap and you would assume they will be
in the running for a quarterback, maybe not in the draft,

(34:03):
but maybe in free agency, and you have clearly the
space to be able to do that right there. So
that to me is an interesting team, I think because
probably trying to win. Now the wording of that is important.
That they would be the front runner. That doesn't mean

(34:24):
that they're the favorite, that doesn't mean that they're going
to get a deal done, but of all the teams,
it might make the most sense and they may have
the best deal on the table. Here's the thing that's
interesting about the Raiders, and you talked about the whole
win now, mode Kelly, they're facing a terrible schedule this year,
and by terrible, I mean the opponents on it are terrible. Correct,

(34:48):
So they probably do feel like they're not that far
away from having something to say in the AFC Wild Card.
I mean again, if you look at just the opportunity
and you mentioned it to try to win, now, I
don't know how how a guy like Trey Hendrickson doesn't

(35:10):
make sense with the money that you mentioned them having.

Speaker 10 (35:12):
Now.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
I don't know. On the Bengal side, I don't know
a player that they have that maybe makes sense that
you want to get in return. I don't know their
roster that well enough. But if if there is any
legs to this of Trey Hendrickson actually being on the move,
that would be the type of team that makes sense.

(35:34):
Like when I first saw you know, Carolina Cleveland India,
I'm like, well, that doesn't make sense because why would
those teams do that when they're not in win now mode?
Those teams aren't winning right now. You mentioned the Raiders,
you mentioned their opponents, You mentioned the window, like, I
don't know how many years Pete Carroll wants to coach.
I don't imagine it's going to be another five or

(35:54):
six years. He's probably coming in to see if he
can win now, and when you have Tom Brady and
you have Davis, maybe that does make sense.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Yeah, and maybe there's a couple of pieces on that
defense that they might be able to or be open
to moving on from.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
I know that.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
They're a team that's in need of a wide receiver
right now. Oh, Trey Hendrickson and Mitchell Tinsley perhaps package deal.
I mean, Trey Tucker is there two right now. And
that's no disrespect to Trey Tucker, but he's not you know,
you don't feel great about him being your number two
opposite of Jacoby. Obviously brock Bauers is different.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
But in all honesty, that would be a situation where
Mitchell Tinsley could probably get some reps.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Yeah, I'll read off some of these names here. Deontay
Thornton couldn't tell you. Colin Johnson, Justin Shorter, Key Tron Jackson,
Shdrick Jackson. We remember him last year at the Bengals.
Jacoby Myers, Alec Bachman, Tommy Mellett, Trey Tucker, jack Beck,
Philip dors Set formerly of the Colts, Marquez Callaway.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Yeah, that would be that would be something I think
you could be open to. Yeah, but I mean again,
but it's something I know it's gonna happen. But outside
of that, Yet, the longer this goes, the more it
feels like it could be a possibility that someone were
to try to make a move for him, and if so,
that could be a team that might make some sense.

(37:23):
Let's take a break, let's come back. Let's finish up
hour one with some of your phone calls. Five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty at Cincy three sixty. Thanks to our friends
at Skyline Chile, and thank you for listening on ESPN
fifteen thirty. Welcome back Cincy three to sixty, hour one,
thanks to Skyline Chili. Thank you for listening ESPN fifteen

(37:44):
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Just a few minutes here. We
got a couple of phone calls, and then we'll get
the Kig and Nicholson.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
What's up, Mike, Hey Fellows, how you doing today?

Speaker 11 (37:54):
Good?

Speaker 5 (37:54):
How are you? I'm going better?

Speaker 4 (37:58):
That's and that's the I was just can think so
thanks for asking. I want to get to the to
that Raiders thing in a minute. But uh, first of all,
the Dodgers are not winning the World Series this year.
That ain't gonna happen. It's not happening. They just do
not have the pitching or they're not going to do it.
They're ranked eighteenth in the pitching and the best way

(38:22):
to the only real logical way to rank pitching staffs
is by e r A. It's really the only truth
stout you got. Take a guess who the number one
team is in the and the MLB and team e
r A.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Man, I'm gonna guess the Tigers. I was gonna say
San Francisco, maybe the.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Texas Rangers at three point four eight. The Padres are
second at three point by three because of that badass bullpen.
Kansas City's ranked third, Milwaukee, the Giants fifth, Boston sixth,
Philly seventh, Detroit eighth, Cincinnati ninth, and the Mets tenth. Okay,

(39:08):
so the Reds and Mets are almost dead even Yep,
the era separated by one of a point.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
I just I just worry in the long run, I
think the Mets bullpen is stronger than the Reds.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Look, you know, I just think it's crazy. Look look
what happened last week because the angel swept the Dodgers
and just because the Reds couldn't get off your dead
butt yesterday, they could have swept the Angels. So you
go figure this stuff out. I give up on it.
That's why I just do the home dog anymore. Bet

(39:44):
and Baseball. Otherwise you're an idiot because I don't care
if you because normally you take you go buy pictures,
but you can't.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
Even do that any And it's it's hard because if
you look at the last two series, or the last
couple of series for the Reds, I mean, Philly came
into Cincinnati and and couldn't do anything offensively against Red's pitching,
and then the Angels struggled against Red's pitching, and yet
they still lose that one last night. The Reds have
just lost too many games like they did last night,
where they shouldn't because starting pitching has done enough to

(40:13):
get them a win and the offense just hasn't pulled
their weight.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
Yeah, I totally agree with you. So it's just very perplexing.
It makes it almost impossible to figure out, but it
doesn't have any bearing on how exciting the playoffs will be.
So hopefully the Reds the Dodgers are gonna make it.
Even if they keep somembling over themselves. They're gonna make it,
but they'll probably be right to get knocked out in

(40:37):
the first round. As far as this Raiders say, the
guys I really keep up with the newspaper in Oakland. Yeah,
but you'd still think they were the Oakland Raiders as
much as they write about the Raiders.

Speaker 12 (40:51):
And the word is that that Brady and Carol and
Davis are all really really really want Tray. Yeah, and
they like the They like his gide up, they like
everything about him.

Speaker 4 (41:05):
His age thing doesn't bother them that much because Crosby
is no puppy either.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
They want to win now, like they said. And from
Trade's perspective, Las Vegas has always been considered to have
some of the best public school systems in the country
because they get so much money from tax base.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Yeah, I think I if it's not here that to me,
out of all the teams I've heard, would make the
most fit with Trey Hendrickson because they can they can
try to compete and win. Now, you think about the
teams you're going up against in the offenses. If you've
got Max Crosby and Trey Hendrickson opposite of each other.
That's a long that's a long afternoon for a quarterback.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
Yeah, and Brady Davis has pretty much given Brady Yep
an open an open lane and said, look, get us
a good quarter great, good quarterback, great quarterback, whatever. You
judge him the b for next year, and hopefully Gino
can get us to sneak into the playoffs. Let leaves
you know my last place. I really respect that Greg Cosel.

(42:03):
He really knows what he's talking about when it comes
to ranking quarterbacks. He knows football inside out. But he's
one of the more highly respected quarterback analysts in football.

Speaker 9 (42:13):
I know that for a fact.

Speaker 4 (42:15):
And he is sky high on Bone Nicks. Yeah, under
the tutelage of Sean Payton. Yeah, Sean Payton. What do
you guys think about Nick?

Speaker 2 (42:26):
I need to see it more. I think it would
be natural for him to take the next big step,
but I think he has to show it first because
year two for an NFL quarterback is just as hard
because the scouting report is out. But I think he's
trending obviously in the right direction.

Speaker 3 (42:39):
I think he's in the right place with the right
coach to have him ready to go and maybe prevent
that year two kind of what's that?

Speaker 2 (42:48):
What do you call sophomore slump?

Speaker 3 (42:50):
I know he spent some time with Drew Brees over
the offseason, and he's got a really good defense. So
when you couple those things together, it helps. I like
his odds. And on top of that, their schedule, Oh
my gosh, they're facing the same schedule the Raiders are,
and there's four there's a huge opportunity for them to
get to the playoffs. So yeah, I'm a believer in
bow Knicks.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Mike, thank you.

Speaker 5 (43:10):
Man, just real quick.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
Getting back to the Raiders. That that asking genty. He's
not as big.

Speaker 5 (43:16):
Who was the big running.

Speaker 4 (43:17):
Back that the that the Seattle Ahead when yeah, marsh
my memory suck.

Speaker 7 (43:24):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (43:25):
He's not as big as Marshawn Lynch. But well he
Ron's hard, doesn't he.

Speaker 2 (43:30):
Yes, Yeah, I think he's gonna fit in well with
that system with Pete Carroll. Mike, thank you man.

Speaker 4 (43:34):
I appreciate, appreciate you guys. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
All right, we gotta get a break. We do, all right,
So we gotta get Maso and our three. Then yeah,
I'm eagerly I'm eagerly waiting to hear who uh I'm
sure he won't be doing anything too. I want to
hear from Maso and our three who are the ours,
no ess we're on essays today from Maso, Sammy Sosa
and see if you can clear your schedule an hour

(43:57):
number three today.

Speaker 3 (43:58):
If he puts slinging Sammy Ball out there, when take
and sling and Sammy Ball.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
All right, well Maso should want to listen anyway. Coming up,
Keegan Nickoson's gonna preview everything with the UC Bearcats next
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, the.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
Superior Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in
part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts all Cincy, all Day.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
All right, welcome back, it's our number two, thanks to
Cincy Shirts. Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's get right to it. A week
from today, nine o'clock Arrowhead Stadium, the Cincinnati Bearcats season
gets underway against Nebraska. Who better to talk Bearcats football
and a little Bearcat basketball as well, with our guy

(44:50):
covering them for Bearcat Journal dot Com. Joining us right now, Keegan,
nickoson what's up, Keegan?

Speaker 13 (44:58):
Not how much? Channey?

Speaker 2 (44:59):
How are you Kigan? I'm great? Are you making the
trip to Kansas City next week?

Speaker 5 (45:05):
Absolutely? I am.

Speaker 13 (45:06):
I haven't looked forward to the college football game like
this since they're playing Alabama in the playoffs, so I'm
very excited for this one.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
What gives you the most reason for optimism? We'll get
into some positions, but if you look at where this
team is at now, maybe compared to where they were
last year, what gives you reason for optimism that this
team can go and beat Nebraska in Game one?

Speaker 13 (45:31):
I think the biggest thing is the amount of turnover
that the Cornhuskers had on defense, bring in a new
defensive coordinator, the only four returning starters they have on
the defensive side of the ball or defensive backs. So
I think this new Cincinnati offense not coching new, but

(45:52):
you know, they brought in new wide receivers. They've talented
wide receivers kalb Gooding and Cyras Allen. I think that
they'll be able to take advantage, maybe pick apart this
defense that is trying to gel with, you know, a
bunch of new players and new defensive coordinators. So I
think this game could get in the sixties total. I
think it's going to be a shootout and the offense

(46:13):
should have a good chance to do some damage.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
We know what Joe Royer was able to do last year,
and we know Brendan Sorez. But you talked about preseason
watch list, he's on so many of them. A quarterback
point of view, but what is it specifically about this
wide receiver room. What added feature does this group give
them that they just were lacking in years past.

Speaker 13 (46:34):
I think it's the breakaway speed downfield. They had Terrence
Smith last year who really just didn't stick, played very
little in the early parts of the season, and then
I believe he decided the red shirt and then transfer
before he hit the four game mark. And you know
they had Tony Johnson and Jamoy Maes and those were

(46:56):
two good wide receivers. And you see that by Jimoy
Mae's playing that the Bengals, Tony Johnson transferring and getting
a big payday.

Speaker 5 (47:04):
I think he went to Miami.

Speaker 13 (47:06):
So they had tough and gritty kind of traits and
they could they could run the routes, they could catch balls,
they could get down and dirty in the blocking game,
but they didn't have the downfield speed and Cyrus Allen
and k could he have that. Jeff Calbo has that
as well. So they're going to be able to stress
the field this year, which they haven't been able to

(47:27):
do in the past. And I think it could. It
could really affect the offense as a whole. Set up
your Royer for some success, set up the running backs
for some success, and kind of just open the playbook
as a whole.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
I was going to go there next the running backs.
I think you look and you think man Corey Kiner
has gone. How will they replace that production? And yeah,
you're not. You don't see one but two University of
Cincinnati running backs on the dolk Walker preseason Award Watch.
So what what do they have a running back this year?
And can that look at all similar to what they
were able to do last year on the ground.

Speaker 13 (48:04):
Yeah, I think they have a lot of good running backs,
not just going past Manny Kobe and or going past
tywary Walker up and prior to Manny Kobe returns. Zion Johnson,
a true freshman, has been playing really good. Chance Williams.
There's a ton of bursts, but when you're looking at
those top two guys. I think they did as good
of a job replacing Corey Kiner as possible. And you

(48:27):
bring in Tylie Walker. You have Evan Pryor, who I
talked to prior the other day put on ten to
fifteen pounds and he said, look, I got to get
through a whole season without getting hurt, and I've got
to be able to break tackles, and I also have
to be able to play a professional schedule, because that's
his goal is to go to the NFL.

Speaker 5 (48:44):
And I think that's one of.

Speaker 13 (48:46):
The most intriguing things about me with the running back room,
or for me with the running back room, because if
you take Evan Pryor's speed and then you say, okay,
well he's going to be able to break some tackles. Now,
I think he could have a more productive season than
Tylie Walker, and I think he can get to that
seven hundred and eight hundred yard mark. I don't know
if we're gonna have a thousand yard rusher this year,

(49:06):
just because of the complexities and the kind of identity
that the Big twelve is going to take. Offensively, you
lost a ton of great running backs across the whole conference,
and I have a ton of great quarterbacks, So it
kind of feels like it's going to be one of
those vintage Big twelve seasons where you're just you're scoring
forty points a game on both sides and the over

(49:26):
unders or in the stratosphere. So but you know, they
have the yen and the yang like they did last
year with sure Tobby Walker being the power rusher, the bruiser,
Evan Pryor being more of the receiving back but can
also take handoffs and go for sixty yards. So they're
set up like they are not lacking at all at
running back. I just wouldn't expect it to be as

(49:50):
impactful as a kind of running back room in terms
of a numbers standpoint than last year.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
They go out and they get one of the top
transfer offense of linemen in the spring portal window. I
believe you bring back Gavin Gerhart. Is the line up front?
Do they remain a strength for this offense or are
their question marks up front?

Speaker 13 (50:13):
Yeah, there's obviously question marks when you just you look
at you had to bring in I think it was
two editions and Taran Tayo and Joe Cotton and then
you're adding in Evan Tangstol. I think there are definitely
question marks, but I'm also very bullish that this group
can actually be better than the group that they had

(50:35):
the last two seasons. Tarran TiO is very very good,
and then Joe Cotton could be a second third round
pick here in a couple of years. I'm also intrigued
and me and my boss have talked about this, how
can this group perform as a pass blocking line, because

(50:55):
the group the last two years was really good at
run blocking, but then past I they weren't horrible, but
you just want to give your quarterback a little bit
more time. This group and pass blocking through fall camp
has been awesome, and I'm wondering about what this offense
can look like if you get Brendan soaresby a bunch
of time to sit back there and pass and you

(51:15):
don't have to hand it off so much like the
last two years.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
And lean on that.

Speaker 13 (51:20):
So that kind of goes back to being able to
open the playbook with the receivers. If the offensive line
can be better in pass protection, this team can score
more points. You don't have to rely on twelve thirteen
play drives. You can kind of bust it open and
have a four play drive that ends up in a
long touchdown. So I think this line can legitimately be better.

(51:40):
I talked to Nick Cardwell and asked him that. He said,
I'm not looking to go there yet, but they have
the tools and the potential to do so.

Speaker 2 (51:48):
On the offensive side of the ball. To round things off,
you mentioned soars Bey and a lot of preseason watch
list and what he was able to do at times
last year. What does the ceiling in your opinion look
like this year for Brendan Soaresby.

Speaker 13 (52:01):
Oh, I love these questions. They get me in a
lot of trouble every time I get asked them the
ceiling for Brendan Soeresby.

Speaker 5 (52:09):
I think the ceiling would.

Speaker 13 (52:11):
Be he's a top three quarterback in the Big twelve by.

Speaker 5 (52:14):
The end of the season.

Speaker 13 (52:15):
I'm not going to go to the thing of you know,
he could be a Heisman candidate, like you, Tony, Like,
I don't think at that point yet.

Speaker 5 (52:24):
Yeah. See, I'm the favorite Nickoson.

Speaker 13 (52:26):
Brothers now yet I but I legitimately think that he's
being underrated in this crop of Big twelve quarterbacks. You've
heard a lot about Devin Dan Pier, Sorry Robertson, and
all these other guys. Baron Morton at Touches Tech. I
think he's one of the best pure throwers in the country.

(52:47):
I think you put it on film and then now
he has the tools to kind of explode onto the
scene and I think if he does it against week
one in Week one against Nebraska, he could really cut
So I think that kind of at the end of
the season, Hobe thought of as one of the top
three quarterbacks in the Big twelve, and then he'll be

(53:09):
a popular name after the season of you know, as
we go every year, is he going to stay?

Speaker 5 (53:14):
Is he going to transfer? Does he have a good
enough year that he says, Look.

Speaker 13 (53:18):
I'm projected to be a late second round, early third
round pick.

Speaker 5 (53:21):
Maybe I'll just go to the draft, which would surprise me.

Speaker 13 (53:24):
But he's got a lot of talent and Bearcats fans
should be looking forward to watching this kid.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Play on the other side of the ball. It's interesting
because you get Golday at the linebacking level, you have
Dante Corleone on the defensive line, and because there were
injuries last year, you were able to mix in a
lot of young defenders so I would imagine that this
team possesses would you say, depth on the defensive line
all across.

Speaker 13 (53:50):
Oh, yeah, they have a ton of depth. You think
of the guys they brought in. SEJ McCrae. I'm really
intrigued by him. I talked to coach Shadderfield at Big
Tive media days and he said that he CJ. McCray
is going to be a really really good kind of
third down pass rush guy like ten your ears back get.

Speaker 5 (54:07):
After the quarterback.

Speaker 13 (54:08):
Micah Coleman, more of a power rusher, will have a
more of an impact in the run game than CJ
McCrae might. And then you had Jalen Hunt, Hunt and
Coleman coming back last year after those injuries. And then
they also bring in Jalen Light McClain, Elijah Gunn, Isaiah Rogers.

Speaker 5 (54:27):
So there's a ton of death.

Speaker 13 (54:29):
Not even talking about Mark west Parker who started as
a true freshman in multiple games, and then Drew Logan
who was given a scholarship in April from a walk
on standpoint and now he might even get into the rotation.
So and I talked to Dante Corleone after practice I
think it was yesterday, and I asked him, like, what's
it like getting in like late into the fourth quarter

(54:50):
and you've played sixty snaps on the defensive line And
he says, look like you can barely do anything like
And a lot of people talk about playing patty cake
with defensive linemen sometimes because they're so tired worn.

Speaker 5 (55:02):
Now that's basically what it is. So it's those small plays.

Speaker 13 (55:07):
It's the small impacts they can make when they have
that depth of you know, getting a hand in the
quarterbacks face, putting just a little bit of pressure on
them that can force quarterbacks to throw interceptions and then
the game slips. They did not have that at all
last year. So I'm not expecting this team to set
the stats record, especially since they're in the three three
five and it doesn't exactly promote getting to the quarterback.

(55:31):
But the defensive line is going to be much better,
and I don't even think that they have to be
great to get this defense to where they want to be.

Speaker 2 (55:39):
You mentioned the three three five. A lot is put
in the three three five a new year, another year
with coach Tyson Vite. But you have to have the
back end to be able to hide things to match
what other teams want to do. I've heard so much
about the d line, I've heard about the linebackers. We've
talked about the offense. What does the secondary look like

(55:59):
for this team when you are again running a three
three five. Are they capable on the back end of
getting the job done or is that still a question
mark for this roster?

Speaker 13 (56:10):
To me, on the back end at safety specifically, there's
still question marks. I think at corner they're far and
away better, and that's an interesting thing of what this
defense can look like when you have a capable corners.
I think Matthew McDoom is going to be one of
the better defensive players this season. And I think Logan

(56:30):
Wilson is really the quality cornerback two that you wont
and he's just voted as a captain. But the most
interesting player on that back end to me is Christian Harrison,
and I think by the end of the year we'll
be talking about him in the same breath as Jake
Golde and Dante Courleone. Is those really impact, really good
defensive players for U see. And one of the biggest

(56:52):
things that makes me say that is like he and
Joe Royer search each other out in drills. They search
each other out in seven on sevens and in team
periods because they want to go against the best. And
I've seen Christian Harrison. I've seen him beat Joe Royer
a lot and get those pass breakups and kind of
go for interceptions. So I think his ability to be

(57:14):
flexible in the back end, playing both field and boundary.
He can even go down and play a little bit
of the same linebacker position, he can go out and
play corner. I think he's going to be all over
the field and I think one of my bold predictions
this year was that he'd have four interceptions, which would
tie to Sean Pace for the most since twenty twenty one.
So look for Christian Harrison to make his impact this

(57:37):
year and kind of take advantage of it through through
five s.

Speaker 2 (57:40):
Team Kegan, if we're talking a week from tomorrow about
U SE getting a big win on the road at
Arrowhead Stadium, what is the biggest thing that we're talking
about that they were able to get done?

Speaker 5 (57:53):
Interceptions.

Speaker 13 (57:54):
Dylan Royla had a thirteen to eleven touchdown interception ratio
last year. It was his biggest struggle, his biggest issue,
and I feel like especially this year, and Bud Elliott,
who does a great job for two four seven Sports
in CBS, has talked about it. He said, if if
you if I'm a coach and I play Nebraska, I

(58:16):
want to play them early. I want to get them
when there's still a bunch of question marks around them,
before they can really get their feet dug in, and
take advantage of all the talent they have. I think
you take advantage of Rayola playing in the stadium in
front of what it'll be seventy five thousand fans, sixty
five thousand which will probably be Nebraska, get him on

(58:37):
his heels with the hype, and force him into a
couple interceptions, and then the offense has a great day,
scores thirty five thirty six points. I think if you
don't force turnovers, Nebraska's probably going to win. They brought
in Dame Key from Kentucky, really good ride receiver, and
Zayah Hunter another really good ride receiver. So they've got

(58:58):
the talent, they've got the tools, but I think it's
just going to come down to the two quarterbacks who
can play cleaner and can you force dealing real into
a couple of mistakes.

Speaker 2 (59:09):
Keegan nickoson covering the Bearcats for Bearcat Journal dot Com.
I would be remiss if I didn't before I let
you go, Keegan. Obviously, the news earlier in the week
the Gigsel James is no longer with the men's basketball program,
and we saw what Wes Miller had to say or
not comment on. At this point, outside of of what
happened with Jigsel, can they replace his production? Do they

(59:32):
have the roster built around that they can they can
take on losing Gigsel James and still thrive in the
Big twelve.

Speaker 13 (59:40):
At this point, I'm gonna say no in terms of
like actually replacing him. There's still some guards sitting in
the portal waiting for a spot, and they're kind of
waiting for a unique scenario or like this is going
to take advantage of.

Speaker 5 (59:54):
So that's a possibility.

Speaker 13 (59:56):
But I'm not gonna stand here and say that everything
is going to be okay after you lose a cornerstone
piece of your offense and your team as a whole.
I mean, this was a guy that fans are super
super excited about, struggled to start last season, but then
really came on.

Speaker 5 (01:00:11):
I think he averaged upwards of fifteen.

Speaker 13 (01:00:13):
Points in the last half, maybe seventeen points the last
half of the season last year. So you know, it
doesn't make me confident. I can't sit here and say, well,
they have Shanabaya so they're gonna be fine, or Keishan
Tillery or Kirk Risa like Keishan Tillery and Shawnabia a
true freshmen that you can't expect to just take on
a huge load. Those are guys that would have really

(01:00:35):
benefited from Gisel James being here at Cincinnati and kind
of being able to ease them in. Now it's more
of okay, there's there's a sense of urgency to try
to get these guys involved offensively. Kirk Priest has struggled
with injuries since your hair has shot eleven percent from
three last year. So do I think there's a path
for this team to be as good, if not better. Absolutely,

(01:00:58):
But until I see them play start of the season,
until I see how the offense looks, I think it's
it's there's a ton of question marks, because when you
lose such an important player, like the heartbeat of your team,
I think that it's it's it's a reason for questioning
for a lot of fans.

Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Lastly, we are getting more of an indication of what
that non conference schedule is going to look like. For years,
I've heard folks say, well, they got a schedule harder,
they got to play a tougher non conference schedule. So far,
what we know they host Dayton, they go on the
road to Xavior, and then we're going to see Louisville
at Heritage Bank. We're going to see a Georgia game
in Atlanta. They're going to play Clemson in Greenville. Do
you think ultimately this helps as they get ready for

(01:01:40):
Big Twelve play, to play the type of competition their
scheduled to play.

Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (01:01:46):
I think Wes has talked about it in the past
when he got criticized for not scheduling tough about you know,
we play in the Big twelve, like we can't get
burnt out, Like we have a tough enough schedule in
the Big twelve. I am not of the opinion that
you have to schedule a really big, like non conference,

(01:02:08):
really good non conference.

Speaker 5 (01:02:09):
Schedule when you're in the Big twelve.

Speaker 13 (01:02:11):
Other than like you're trying to make his statement early
because we've seen like last year, how.

Speaker 5 (01:02:16):
Did you see doing the non conference.

Speaker 13 (01:02:17):
They did a great beat Zager beat Dayton, killed Georgia
Tech in Atlanta, and then the Big Twelve Conference comes in,
it goes downhill a little bit. So I think it's
awesome for fanfare. I'm really going to look forward to
covering these games, especially Louisville that was one of my
favorite rivalries to watch as a kid. But I don't
really think it does a ton to get them ready,

(01:02:39):
because I mean, you should know what it takes to
be ready for the Big Twelve, and you know west
Miller knows that, and he knows if his guys are
going to be ready by January.

Speaker 5 (01:02:49):
But this does it can either help you or hurt you.

Speaker 13 (01:02:54):
And he's scheduling some teams that have the possibility to
hurt him, which I have to give him props.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
For Keegan Man, I cannot thank you enough. Keegan's coverage
on Bearcat Journal is fantastic. What is the easiest way
you'd recommend folks to follow along to get ready for
everything that a week from tonight is going to be
along with basketball and so much more.

Speaker 13 (01:03:14):
Yeah, follow it at k nickoson forty two on Twitter,
and then make sure you subscribe to barricat Journal on
Bearcat Journal dot com and also on YouTube. I know
are our The rest of our team had a podcast
last night kind of going through a season preview and
kind of projecting what the record might be, so that
would be an interesting one for a lot of youc
fans to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
That is Keegan Nickoson. He is my second favorite Nickoson
that I've ever come across, and I can't thank you enough.
I look forward to to catching up all season long
and look forward to seeing you in Kansas City.

Speaker 5 (01:03:48):
Absolutely see it, Tanny.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Thank you. That is Keegan nickoson Bearcat Journal dot com.
This is since he three sixty and when we come
back your talkbacks on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station, your.

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Chance three sixty here every show at ESPN fifteen thirty
dot com.

Speaker 14 (01:04:06):
Is the temple, pressed the microphone and record you message us.

Speaker 4 (01:04:12):
Then, and don't please.

Speaker 14 (01:04:14):
Keep the clean a spring Gosbury d owsh that temple
to be it's our favorite and sorry three sex day
Austin played at Tacks.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
On your screen and try come on. This is Austin's
last talkbacks of the week because he's not in tomorrow.
That's correct. This is a big day.

Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
I'm just gonna say, this is the smallest batch of
talkbacks that I can remember since we started doing this. Really,
there are six what happened to everyone to talkback? What
happened to everyone today? There are just six. Maybe people
were sleeping in after staying up late for the Reds.

Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
I don't know.

Speaker 15 (01:04:59):
Maybe maybe Hey, guys, I guess it was too much
to expect the Reds to get to eight games above
five hundred for the first time this year and slide
into a playoff spot, or at least that's how it
feels with this team. Two steps forward, one step back. Also,
it feels like, whether this team and this franchise likes

(01:05:23):
it or not, Tino frank Coone is going to drag
this team into the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (01:05:27):
It's the darnest thing anyway.

Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Well, I sure hope you drags him in the plane.
Do you think he's going to?

Speaker 9 (01:05:34):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
At this point, I still think they're on the outside
looking in, and I think we are just upset that
so many opportunities went by the wayside during the season.

Speaker 5 (01:05:46):
Hey, it's your president.

Speaker 16 (01:05:47):
You see Hall of Fame with Tony Pike later on
Undisputed Since he three to sixty, we'll be discussing stock
bitch cut, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, and chicken and yes,
the difference.

Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
I think there's validity to that.

Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
We should you know, if we ever have people around
here that do imaging for our radio station, we should
have you do that. It is your resident UC Hall
of Fame, Pike.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
There is there is something legitimate about that about what
chicken tenders, chicken nuggets. What is the difference between chicken
tenders and chicken fingers, because I think those were the
three that he puts. I don't think there's a tender
and finger difference, but there is a difference in nuggets.

Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
Because I was going to say, there is a restaurant
that has been advertising on the screen in here on
the commercial breaks, and they're advertising their new chicken tenders. Oh,
actually they're not even new chicken tenders. They've had them
forever and it has it's working on me. It makes
me really want to go get some when you see

(01:06:55):
it every single commercial break, didn't it They didn't. They
used to do that when for like old films at movies, Yeah,
they would put in like because it used to be there. Gosh,
I forget this whole thing. It was like copyright and
mind bending technology and stuff. But they would show, you know,
the popcorn and the coca cola and all that stuff, right,

(01:07:15):
and it would make people want to go get one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
But then eventually they started putting like a single slide,
like just a frame, and it would it was a
picture of popcorn and coke, just to the point where
you didn't realize you were seeing it, but your brain
was registering it, so you would be wanting it without
knowing it or seeing it. And uh, I think they
ended up deeming that to be illegal no longer. Don't

(01:07:40):
ask me that was something we studied in college. Don't
ask me where I remember that. I remember that somehow. Yeah,
somebody out there remember about the movies now? Is that
the previews are entirely too long? Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
I like it though.

Speaker 6 (01:07:53):
I like.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Like making a mental note of movies I might want
to see. That's crazy for you. I know, I go
to the movies like once a year, but I'm like, oh,
that movie looks good.

Speaker 17 (01:08:05):
I wasn't going to leave a talkback today, but then
I heard Austin clamoring for a coaching change, and I
thought Yeah, Austin's right.

Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
Get rid of Zach Taylor now and bring in Joe Brady.

Speaker 5 (01:08:19):
Do you guys know Joe Brady's middle name?

Speaker 18 (01:08:23):
Once twice three times?

Speaker 14 (01:08:25):
Anyway, I guess I got nothing else.

Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
I'm just gonna tap out.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
That's good. It's the Brady Bunch, right. Nope, that's a
song once twice three times a lady, he added Brady.
That doesn't work. It has to be the You can't
not something that rhymes. No, that's not how it works. Day.

Speaker 19 (01:08:47):
Hey, Talkbacker who likes to call in and complain about
the commercials to pay for the radio show that you
listen to every single day?

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Yep, yeah, I'm talking to you.

Speaker 20 (01:08:58):
Don't miss out a nice Big Three Championship making his
return to the Heritage Bank Center featuring Lance Stevenson, Michael
Beasley and many other stars. Don't miss out July twenty six,
Heritage Bank Center.

Speaker 9 (01:09:11):
Be there.

Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
That's like, do people ever come up to you and
like complain about someone you work with or the way
that they like. I'm sure this has happened where somebody
has come up to you and said something that they
don't like about me.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
What do they expect you to say? Right or what
are they?

Speaker 21 (01:09:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:09:33):
Expect Yeah, it's been terrible. Yeah, I'm not gonna throw
my guy under the bus.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Hi, Audi, Consider the Princeton Vikings. That's your team, home
of Spencer.

Speaker 17 (01:09:42):
Ware and Paris Johnson and pop Icon Karmen Electra, y Perrinceton.

Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Okay, I like this a lot.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
Okay, you know, I'm who isn't a big fan of
Karmen Electra and obviously her connection to Dennis Rodman in
the Chicago Bulls hits home to me. Paris Johnson is
a box to Buckeye now out in Arizona. Okay, all right, Princeton, Well, since.

Speaker 19 (01:10:07):
There's only six talkbacks Austin, what do you know about
Chip Kelly? And how do how is this uh Raiders
offense gonna look like? Yeah, it's fantasy question, I know,
but really looking at jenc so what.

Speaker 5 (01:10:19):
Do you think?

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Okay, here's the Raiders offensive line starting at the moment,
Colton Miller, Dylan Parham, Jordan Meredith, huh, some guy named
DJ Glaze. And then there is two players listed at
starting right guard, Jackson Powers Johnson and Alex Kappa. Oh no,

(01:10:42):
for those two reasons, I'm gonna stay away from Ashton Gentle.
Oh no, but I do like Chip Kelly and I
think he'll be creative. But there's just not a lot
of weapons to work with. The offense has to be
built around brock Bowers and that's not a bad place
to start on it. This is really good, not at all.
I think it'd be a lot of twelve personnel. Okay,

(01:11:06):
now we're getting.

Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
Hey guys, Skinny here. So the Bengals defense.

Speaker 22 (01:11:17):
Do they have bad players or bad chemistry?

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
M I think the chemistry is great? Which is I
think they got some bad players. I think I think
they got some bad players. Is that Skinny's talkback debut?

Speaker 15 (01:11:32):
It was?

Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Can I give an update? Tenders our biggest are the
are the biggest form of chicken. Strips are smaller than tenders. Well,
what about fingers? And then nuggets are tiny. It's the
amount of meat to bread ratio in each is what
I'm told. Okay, that's cool, but what about tenders to fingers?
Great question?

Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
I don't know about what was the one you gave strips?
Obviously strips are different. Maybe strips are fingers. Stuff we
try to break down here on a daily basis.

Speaker 23 (01:12:02):
Lucky number seven talkback incoming. Yeah, seven is a lucky number.
That's about all we have to hope for for Cincinnati
Sports to magically make any playoff.

Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
Seven what's that mean?

Speaker 5 (01:12:27):
Seven?

Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
Seven stops through? If they get seven stops over seventeen games,
they make the playoffs. How many Bengals can you name
that have worn the number seven?

Speaker 23 (01:12:38):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
There are only there have only been three. There's only
one that I ever need to know, and it's the
jersey I had when I was growing up, boomeros Aias
of course, could you name the other two? Man? Klingler,
David Klingler, that's correct. I couldn't tell you the other one. Last, well,
come on, you know this one. I couldn't tell you
this one.

Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
This quarterback through AJ Green's first career touchdown, Gradkowski's right,
Boomer Assizen, Bruce Gradkowski and David Klingler the only three
Bengals to wear number seven.

Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
Man, how about that? That's fun? That's crazy. There's only
been three.

Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
Yeah, I think it was kind of like unofficially retired
after Boomer came back the second time.

Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
I wonder if we can find out which number has
been worn the most but by a Bengal. Yeah, goh lee,
it's a good question. We're digging in deep. That's a
good question. Let me see, I fingy okay, I mean
number fifty two has been worn by at least twenty
five different Bengals. Number fifty two, number fifty two, okay. Interesting.

(01:13:50):
What do you know about Marty the Caglio. I don't
know much.

Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
He was the first Bengal to wear number eighty five.
Eighty five is another number that's listed here, Yeah, Isaac Curtis,
eighty five was the first one I thought of armand bens.

Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Of course, have the Bengals officially retired what number of
the officially retired?

Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
They've only ever officially retired one number, and that was,
if I'm not mistaken, number fifty four. Yeah, okay, yeah,
but there are others that are unofficially retired. Seventy eight.
No one's gonna wear that again, sure, I think honestly,
here's a hot take. I think it's bs that ninety
seven is still in the rotation. Really, yes, okay. Geno

(01:14:31):
Atkins might be a Hall of Famer. Well he should be,
but he I don't know if he's going to get in,
but he Geno Atkins was a monster and it's nonsense
that people can wear his number.

Speaker 6 (01:14:43):
Hey, fellas, I will happily jump in to offer some
talkback action, but nothing Bengals related that super concrete talk
about until the season really starts. So let's jump into this.
One of my favorite things is when Austin gives Tony
crap for his palates. Let's say, and then, one of

(01:15:05):
my favorite things is when Tony gets Austin crap about
movies he hasn't seen. Let's talk about that.

Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
Okay, I mean, we give each other crap a lot. Oh,
you just wanted us to talk about that. You didn't
want to like latest and all. You just want us
to fight like a big brother little brothers. Yeah, yeah,
you want that animosity based.

Speaker 24 (01:15:20):
Chicken fingers and chicken nuggets are mashed up pieces of
chicken that they've done all kinds of weird stuff too,
and then breaded and then fried. Chicken tenders are real
pieces of chicken breast that they've battered up and fried.

Speaker 5 (01:15:35):
They didn't mash them up. It's just real chicken breast
from my understanding.

Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Okay, interesting, okay, interesting, Okay, this is good. I'm learning stuff.

Speaker 5 (01:15:44):
Hey, guys, Marcus from the groove Marcus.

Speaker 22 (01:15:47):
Everybody is somewhat upset after the rest took two out
of three because we didn't sweep them. Obviously, it is disappointing,
but we still got.

Speaker 21 (01:16:00):
A series win, got an off day.

Speaker 22 (01:16:03):
Now we've got Arizona, who we already swept earlier in
the year, and then the Dodgers. I said it before
the road trip started, seven to three fantastic. I'll take
six and four, good risk, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
I think I just don't know six and four is
gonna get you. That's what I'm saying. So I get
like you're starting nitpicking and saying, well, you won the series.
That's great, But things that have transpired throughout the season
have led these games to now have more meaningful impact
because some of the ones that got away from you.
This is what playoff baseball is. Playoff baseball. Every loss

(01:16:37):
goes under a microscope. And I know it's one thing
to say, well, yes, I agree they won the series.
If you keep winning series, good things are going to happen.
But when you're in the midst of a playoff hunt
and the door gets opened earlier in the night, you've
got to be able to kick the door in, especially
with an off day today.

Speaker 16 (01:16:53):
Hey, what do you guys think about the new Cracker
barrel rebrand?

Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
We're gonna talk about this. This is mart Discuss earmarked
for quick hits to quick Hits topic.

Speaker 5 (01:17:03):
Tony Austin. This is Joe in Baltimore this time next week.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
I'll be home in the Natty.

Speaker 5 (01:17:09):
I'm gonna go to the Reds.

Speaker 25 (01:17:10):
Game Friday night, gonna catch Kentucky on Saturday, and then
I got to head back to Baltimore. But with that
being said, for the two days, all I'm gonna eat
is nothing but Skyline Chili, the Rosa's Pizza, Grippo potato.

Speaker 5 (01:17:27):
Chips, and White Castles.

Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
He's gonna hurt.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Oh for you, brother, You had me until you went
to the White Castle. You don't like White Castle. I
don't know the last White Castle, not have hex. I
don't remember the last time I've seen like two in
the morning pocket Rockets. Baby.

Speaker 17 (01:17:44):
Hey, fellas, if you guys don't think of all the
pressures on the Mets, I don't know how you don't.
They have what well, the highest payroll, am all right?
And the Reds are behind them by one game. Yeah
it such didn't Angels, but the name of the game
is to win the series. Man, come on, boys, they

(01:18:05):
making the playoffs?

Speaker 14 (01:18:07):
Are they going to?

Speaker 9 (01:18:08):
Is Terry francona baby?

Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Come on, bro, I don't think the Reds see it
that way. The Reds probably don't see it as all
all the pressures on the Mets, they'll screw up, right.
The red Is probably look at that roster and they're like,
oh crap.

Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Tony Austin west Side'm on here. Just want to know
if either one of y'all going out this Saturday and
grabbing them them bangle wanes, the shutter back boards.

Speaker 9 (01:18:31):
Let me know.

Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
I want them.

Speaker 2 (01:18:33):
I want them really badly.

Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
I want them so badly, but the cost of moving
and other stuff going on in my life is unfortunately
taking that off my list.

Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (01:18:46):
Stay from West Genie.

Speaker 10 (01:18:48):
A couple of weeks ago, I was watching a fella
named Amaya played for the Cubs. Now, this guy he
beat out of a single and when he hit the base,
he hit the side of it and blew his ankle up. Yes,
I'm wondering if you guys support the double bass first

(01:19:10):
base like in the Miners. I think it'd be a
good idea to save it.

Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
I actually agree with that. Yeah, I've seen some stuff
talked about this, and I do. I think I'm on
board with you.

Speaker 26 (01:19:21):
Yeah, so seven is a lock of number, and we're
got seven stops in seventeen games or what the hell
Tony said? And then we got twenty five players wearing
fifty two, fifty two and twenty five or pound drones
one another.

Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
My head smitted, But all I know is we're.

Speaker 15 (01:19:36):
Going to Super Bowl, Baby her dad.

Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (01:19:40):
It's Tony Aush and jeorgeon Valley Hey with jizzl out.

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
Does that mean Wes Moller might as well be looking
for a new job right now? That means no, I
don't him and Harball, shar Own Morris, you all be
looking for new jobs. I don't think so.

Speaker 6 (01:19:55):
Okay, let me add on to my previous comments.

Speaker 5 (01:19:58):
I would like to to.

Speaker 6 (01:20:01):
Recommend a movie that Austin really needs to see. And
I would like Austin to recommend the food that Tony
needs to learn to like.

Speaker 5 (01:20:12):
Let's dig into this, learn to like.

Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
I don't know if that's possible. That's tough. Got a
movie for me.

Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
I'm gonna say Chicken Tica Marsala for you. Okay, First
of all, I have to be able to pronounce it
and know what it means. That's kind of my starting point.
I'm gonna give you a chicken tica marsala. That that's again,
it's Indian. That's okay, let's start. You would that's that's
that's like chicken and rice. Dude, like, you're fine, that's

(01:20:42):
an easy one for It's just the marsala, like the
the the sauce and stuff. Okay, man from a movie
movie for me, that's a good question. I've been watching
more TV shows lately. Give me a movie, dude, hurry up.
Have you seen did you see the uh? The Deadpool

(01:21:03):
and Wolverine?

Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
No, I don't care about it. Okay, Well that was
up repping in Natty out here, Sonny hot?

Speaker 9 (01:21:08):
So what up?

Speaker 5 (01:21:08):
Tony?

Speaker 10 (01:21:09):
What up?

Speaker 9 (01:21:09):
Boddie?

Speaker 5 (01:21:09):
Your last day's game?

Speaker 9 (01:21:11):
It is what it is.

Speaker 5 (01:21:12):
Winning a series is all that matters.

Speaker 9 (01:21:13):
But Natty in the situation where a sweep is necessary,
get out here in sweep zone.

Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
Take Twooppy from La Hell Sweep La. Thanks, get greedy,
trying to hit the panic, but we must win. Most
sweepspar starting to be necessary.

Speaker 15 (01:21:28):
Let's get greedy.

Speaker 5 (01:21:28):
Show just wanted to chime in really fall trying to get.

Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
Back to work.

Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
Yeah, let's get greedy here, Ronnie, ron see if you
can hunt down Charlie Goldsmith when you're in Arizona.

Speaker 2 (01:21:37):
I need that collab. What is Let's get greedy. Yeah,
we're allowed to do that. All right? That was our
last one. All right? Shall we finish up by taking
this guy this phone? I don't know if it's a
guy or girl, but someone's called in.

Speaker 9 (01:21:48):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
If we take a call, you can't see the name. No,
I don't have a name on here. Oh it's how
about now? Nope, I don't have a name. Oh well
this is Greg and mount Airy Greg.

Speaker 5 (01:21:58):
Hi, Hey, what's up up, guys?

Speaker 11 (01:22:01):
Congratulation Tony, because I know I didn't mention you should
be in a Hall of Fame at least two.

Speaker 5 (01:22:05):
Three years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:22:09):
Hey, I got the perfect trivia question for you, guys.

Speaker 11 (01:22:12):
This happened before you was born, but I'm gonna see
how good you guys are.

Speaker 5 (01:22:15):
Okay is a former Ohio State running back.

Speaker 11 (01:22:19):
Ran over a Bengal safety in a game and paralyzing.

Speaker 5 (01:22:23):
Can you name both those guys?

Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
Man ran over a Bengals safety and paralyzed him. Yes, sir,
The only Bengal I can remember being paralyzed, at least
at first was David Pollock. So it's way before my time.
I don't know, I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Yeah, you lost, you lost me on Ohio State Running Back.

Speaker 11 (01:22:49):
So this happened about seventy two John Blockinson ran over
Bengal safety Ken Dyer and paralyzing.

Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
Wow, I never knew this. Well, that's one way. That's
one way to end this segment. Thanks Greg Man, Greg,
thank you. I think the man very rarely are we
both left?

Speaker 2 (01:23:09):

Jean with an our number three today.

Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
I think I heard Jim Day last night say they're
aiming for Wednesday against the Dodgers. So eight days from
er okay, uh? Six days trying to do the math?
Sixth oh, try to do the math. And I heard
that we got another one hitting the CNL Parez Express Highway.

Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
That's right. Luis may has been sent to Triple A Louisville. Okay?
Any other heard the other corresponding move?

Speaker 4 (01:24:32):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Anything else from an injury report that we need to
uh to touch on obviously, yesterday we found out Cordo
Volson is going to miss what we expect to be
the entire twenty twenty five season. Lucas Patrick is day
to day with an undisclosed injury. Jermaine Burton was back
out there doing some some walk through yesterday. Mikeasicki is
out there doing some walk through today. So some good

(01:24:53):
updates for the Bengals. There is one big one in
the NFL. Jordan Schultz reporting that Patriots wide receiver Jalen
Hulk we'll miss the entire season due to a shoulder
injury that requires surgery. Okay, so the Patriots could be
in the market for a wide received Hendrickson and Tinsley

(01:25:14):
coming together. We'll come together for one final hour here. Next,
it's Cincy three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
Okay? It called before?

Speaker 3 (01:26:27):
Interesting quick updates to that Postman laundry report. I just
saw this Bengals getting ready for their final training camp
practice of the day or of the year, of the preseason.
Thank god, I'm off tomorrow because I can't talk anyways.
Miles Murphy, Miles Murphy, Cody Ford, andre Yoshivas all on

(01:26:47):
the rehab field to start Bengals practice today. But they
are in full pads. Oh, their final day of training
camp slash preseason. Let's go back at it the boys. Yeah,
that at the stadium practicing.

Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
Okay. There's a lot being made about this Bengals team
right now and what they're going to do with Trey Hendrickson,
what they've done or not done around Joe Burrow. I
actually saw dan Orlofsky said this Austin that without Trey Hendrickson,
he doesn't think the Bengals are a playoff team. He
thinks they're a super Bowl contender with him. Is it

(01:27:24):
as bad as that without Trey Hendrickson, this team can't
make the playoffs? Yes, that's how I feel right now. Okay,
let's talk a little bit more about what the Bengals
have or have not done for what many consider some
considered to be the best quarterback in the NFL. I
believe this is Lewis Riddick was talking about this.

Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
Yeah, this was They were talking about teams that they
trust more than the Bengals. Oh and this was on
first take on ESPN. So take that with a grain
of salt, because that show is just people yelling and
saying stuff for clips like this to be talked about
most of the time.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
But we like Lewis Riddick. He's a friend of the show.
Smart guy. Here's what he had to.

Speaker 18 (01:28:07):
Say, significant improvements. I trust the Raiders right now to
find a way to sneak into the playoffs. Before I
would trust the Bengals. Think about the Patriots. Think about
the Patriots and what they have done, not just the
people that they brought into an organization in the locker room,
the people on the coaching staff. They have a all
star coaching staff that will get that team to play
far above and beyond what our expectations are. Right now, Look,

(01:28:29):
since he it isn't just a defensive issue with Cincy.
You know this too, since Joe's been there. Right since
Joe's been there, they've been in the bottom quarter in
the league in past block win rate every single year,
and people go, well, he's been able to manage it.
Look at the season he had last year. You're playing
with fire with the way in which this guy has
to be perfect every single week.

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
When he has Turnstiles for an offensive line.

Speaker 18 (01:28:49):
While everyone else in the AFC is gaining ground, his
team is losing ground.

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
He's keeping his. He kept his, dudes.

Speaker 18 (01:28:56):
But as far as the supporting cast is concerned, every
other football teams getting better, they just are. The West
has gotten better, the East has gotten better.

Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
They havec North.

Speaker 18 (01:29:05):
Hey, let's just see what happens here with Pittsburgh. Okay,
you know, defensively they're going to be better. And if
Aaron is on it, like RC and Jaylen Ramsey. People
are saying, hell, he's looked in trading camp, hey.

Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
Man, And we know Baltimore, we know what Baltimore brings.

Speaker 18 (01:29:19):
I think this football team, I really think this football
team could be in trouble again.

Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
And you're right, you're right.

Speaker 18 (01:29:25):
Look, Trey Hendrickson does not make them a super Bowl contender,
does not make them a playoff contender by himself alone.
There are far more foundational issues with this football team.

Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Okay, so there's a lot to unpack there. And at
the end there you kind of feel like if where
this team is or without or where they are or
where they're not going to be without Trey Hendrickson. But
the term that Lewis Ridick used there, and again, I
don't bunch Lewis Ridick into a lot of the talking
heads that we often criticize on this show. Lewis Ridick
knows what he's talking about. And there is a consensus

(01:29:57):
that there is a group of people Austin that will say, well,
that's just who Joe is. He can make that magic happen.
The term used by Lewis Riddick is playing with fire.
We saw that in the Washington game. We saw it
countless times last year, when Joe Burrow gets hit and
you hold your breath to make sure that he's getting up,
you continue to play with fire. And at some point,

(01:30:18):
part of Joe Burrow's greatness is not going to be
his ability to be able to get away and hoodini
himself out of problems.

Speaker 4 (01:30:25):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
That's going to eventually go away. It goes away with
every quarterback, and then you're relied on what the pocket
and the ability to make plays. If Joe Burrow has
a clean pocket, guy could play until he's probably forty
five years old. But eventually the ability to extend the
play is going to start to diminish a little bit.

(01:30:46):
You're going to see a drop off in that you're
going to see sacks that maybe in years past weren't
sacks because he just couldn't get away. You can't keep
playing with fire if you're the Cincinnati Bengals. And this
to me goes back to Dalton Riisner, who came to
cincinnat And I know he's visiting elsewhere, and I know
that doesn't mean the Bengals are out on him, but
it just feels like this organization is rolling the dice.

(01:31:10):
Every day. They practiced without addressing guard. Joe Goodbarry joined
us the other day, and Joe Goodbarry said, if they
get the Riisner deal done, he thinks it's easily the
best o line they've put in front of Borrow since
he's been here. That would tell me you've got to
find a way to get it done. Well, what's the
other part of that saying, if you play with fire,
you're gonna what You're gonna get burnt? How many times

(01:31:31):
have the Bengals already been burned? Twice in twenty twenty
his rookie year when all the ligaments in his left
knee were rearranged, and then again in twenty twenty three
when all the ligaments and his throwing wrists were rearranged.
They have already been burnt twice. Yeah, and they have,

(01:31:52):
to their credit, taking some swings on some offensive linemen.
Ted Carris, Alex Kappa, Cordell Wohlson, Jackson Carmen. They have
taken swings. They haven't always hit. Alex Kappa was not
awful until last year, where he was so bad you
couldn't even justify keeping him on the team. Cordell Vohlsen.
One really solid year is rookie year steadily declined since then.

(01:32:17):
They have invested heavily in Orlando Brown junior, but he
sought them out. They weren't seeking him out in free agency.
He came to them.

Speaker 3 (01:32:27):
Amarius MEM's a first round pick. They took a swing on.
They moved Jonah Williams around a couple of different times.
He was there the draft before Burrow and didn't play
at all his rookie year, so he's basically a rookie
with Burrow. So they have taken swings, but they haven't
hit on them. And there is a difference between them

(01:32:48):
just not trying at all and them not being able
to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:32:52):
So if that's the case, if they have tried, and
I do agree they've tried to make those moves. If
that's the case, then where does the onus? All right?

Speaker 3 (01:33:02):
And you know, I think MO talked about this. This
is gonna be the this is the third offensive line
coach under Zach Taylor. Already there is something to I
believe the way the offense is built makes it harder
on the offensive line, which is why, as we've talked
about a lot this offseason, the addition of Noah fan

(01:33:23):
in twelve personnel and the importance of a dependable run
game can make life easier on that offensive line, and
I think that's part of what they're hoping for. But again,
hope is not a strategy. And I think if Eric
All was healthy, this offense might look a little bit
different and feel a little bit different, and we might
feel a little bit different about the offensive line as

(01:33:45):
a whole.

Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
But because.

Speaker 3 (01:33:49):
They are where they are at with a rookie and
then a question mark at the two guard positions, it
feels like here we go again.

Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
Yeah, And that that to me. I don't think we
could go through another year the way we saw him
hit last year, because we talked a lot about water
finding its level and the Chiefs were so good in
the one possession games, and but what do we talk about.
Eventually that's got to stop. Eventually that camera is gonna
pan back and Joe Burrow is gonna be on the ground.

Speaker 3 (01:34:21):
I think back to that last game in Pittsburgh and
watching it back on quarterback where his face was driven
into the ground and he thought he.

Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
Broke his neck. Yeah, like what else do you need
to see?

Speaker 9 (01:34:38):
That?

Speaker 3 (01:34:38):
In and of itself? And the Bengals saw that way
before anybody else did should have told you, oh crap, yep,
we got to find a way to get better here. Yeah,
And in the draft they waited until the third round.
They took two defensive guys before that.

Speaker 2 (01:34:59):
And it's just like.

Speaker 3 (01:35:02):
And to have basically no activity and free agency is
hard to fathom.

Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
And now and I get, like, I get what Riisner's doing,
Go visit more spots, drive the asking price up. But
could there have been something in the meeting earlier in
the week to say, what does it take to have
you signed this right now? What will it take to
not let you leave here without a deal in place?

(01:35:30):
My guess is tell me I'm going to start against
the Cleveland Browns. And I don't know that the Bengals
can say that. But the thing is, like you could
say that and then still like poise it, like put
it out there as a competition, knowing all well and good,
it shouldn't be one.

Speaker 3 (01:35:46):
Maybe, but he's also the type of guy, from what
we've heard, not a great locker room guy. So he
seemed to me as the type of dude that would
cause a lot of problems if he didn't get what
he was told. And maybe the Bengals understand that, so
maybe that's at play here too. But again, sometimes you
gotta be willing to bite the bullet a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:36:06):
You have to maybe overpay it times, and you have
to take a chance when it comes to protecting your franchise.

Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
We talked, we played that clip from Dan interviewing Stephen
Radisivik at halftime Radissivic and he said, we've been talking
to his agent for a couple of weeks. Yeah, so
clearly they hold out. They know that they have an
issue here that needs resolved. And Quodel Volson's now done
for the season, right like even before the Vulcan news,

(01:36:33):
you had to get help there. And it's not like
you need it more. It's not like you've tried Matt
Lee and Seth McLaughlin at guard. Those guys haven't gotten
no snaps. And then your next Beck's option is Jalen Rivers,
who all off season was a tackle now is a
guard man. It is just a it feels oftentimes like
rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Speaker 4 (01:36:57):
And and now like you.

Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
Again, I don't know what the answer is, but it
feels like what is currently in place is not the answer.
And we hear again when I hear stuff from Dan Orlofsky,
and I hear stuff from like Lewis Riddick. I take
that differently than some of the other, for sure, people
that are out there. I respect what they have to say. Ipect,
I respect their analysis, and I agree with what they

(01:37:23):
have to say in a lot of things, and I
surely agree with where they're at right now. Call it
what it is any way you slice it up. They
have failed Joe Burrow up to this point, and I
respect Joe Goodbarry. He's been doing it for seventeen years now.
Was what he's doing with the Bengals' right a lot.
He said the same thing, Riisner would make this the

(01:37:45):
best old line that you've put in front of Burrow.
Riser was his guy going into the off season and
he's still there. Find a way to figure out how
to get it done and send a statement to Joe
Burrow and the others. Yeah, we know we've got to
fix this on defense, but we know that that you

(01:38:07):
are going to be what makes this go or not go.
That's what you got to figure out and tuner rather
than later, if possible. Today was the last training camp day,
official last training camp practice. Now you're getting into the season.
You're you're wasting valuable time for something that we've talked
about since the season ended last year. Guard. Since the

(01:38:31):
season end, we've talked about it, and here we are
in August twenty first, still talking about it. We'll move

Speaker 27 (01:39:57):
Hey, I just talked to my buddy Kevin at Gilgy Window.
Right now through August thirty. First, they're giving you three
hundred and seventy five dollars off each window and one
thousand dollars off patio doors, and they have many finance
options available with no money down.

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
Trust the pros and Goki Windows.

Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
Three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:40:25):
Come on, come on, welcome back our three Thanks to
Penn Station. Thank you for listening to ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station on the iHeartRadio app as well. Austin
is not in tomorrow, so Drew is going to be
with us on a Friday. Let's go Drew, So take

(01:40:45):
with that what you want. Talk to Charlie Goldsmith. Charlie's
gonna join us. We got ideally Tommy g is gonna
stop by Big Loose from FC Cincinnati with DeAndre Yedlin
being traded for what was it three hundred and thousand
some dollars and seven hundred Yeah that too somewhere around those.
I believe we're gonna have Robert Nunez oh back to
the football season, looking forward to that. They're going to

(01:41:06):
stop in tomorrow. So we got a lot of good
things that are gonna happen tomorrow. We're still gonna talk
to Bob man Jean today. We'll get through our quick
hits and if someone brought up in uh in our
talk back section, we we do have to discuss what's
going on with cracker barrel today.

Speaker 3 (01:41:20):
Yeah, it's it's I wrote it down. It was one
of the first things I said to you today. Yeah,
we're gonna have to talk about cracker barrow. Also, I
think you should ask Bob man Jean about undisclosed injuries
and just see if he could answer that there's been
a lot of them going on because DJ Turner is
ash not practicing again today after missing all of last
week with a undisclosed injury. Just see if you could

(01:41:41):
trick Bob into saying, you know, Bob, we talked about
undisclosed injuries, how do you treat undisclosed.

Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
Injuries and considerations or things that I'll I could do
this the rest of my life and never have any
idea what they mean. It's just something we say, cash considerations.
Bob's familiar with cash considerations, allocating money resources, undisclosed injuries.

(01:42:06):
Speaking of undisclosed injuries. Interesting to see what will happen
after today. Did you see the video of the fight
that happened or that that happened at Seattle and Green
Bay's joint practice.

Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
I've been waiting for one of these and we haven't
had like a big brawl in a while Kay Adams
was that he said.

Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
It's the biggest practice fight she's ever seen.

Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
Yeah, Zach tom one of the Packer offensive lineman, was
apparently involved in that in a big way. Nothing will
ever beat Aaron Donald swinging helmets at Bengals players a
couple of years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:42:33):
Never forget that. Also, it is worth noting that this
is from the NFL from Chefty Buccaneers planning to activate
Chris Godwin off the pup list and get him on
their fifty three men roster to start the season. It's
still ramping up his progress. He's not likely to play
in games until October. He had that bad fractured ankle
against the Ravens last year. But think about that that

(01:42:54):
team Austin with Godwin, Evans, a Mecca, Buca, Bucky Are,
Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 3 (01:43:01):
I like Tampa as a little bit of a sleeper
this year. I don't even know if they're a sleeper.
I would imagine they're the favorites to win that division.

Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
Yeah, I guess so.

Speaker 3 (01:43:11):
By the way, Rick Browing reports, Xavier transfer wing Gabriel
Pizzato is going to miss some time after having surgery
on a torn meniscus suffered this summer.

Speaker 2 (01:43:22):
Well, speaking of injuries, Bob man Jean's going to join
us next. We'll talk about blisters, how we will talk
about Xavier. On ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Welcome back,
we roll along our number three thanks to Penn Station.
It's Cincy three sixty on the home of the Bengals,
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, as we do each
and every Thursday, our guy, Bob man Jean from the

(01:43:43):
University of Cincinnati and Novacare is here to join us
for a couple minutes, and I wanted to ask him
about something going on with the Cincinnati Reds that we've
seen now a couple times with the same player. Bob,
what's going on?

Speaker 21 (01:43:54):
How are you, Tony just enjoying moving day on campus
that you see where you can't go from point A
to point B quickly?

Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
Do you still offer up your services as someone that
helps these these student athletes move into their dorms?

Speaker 21 (01:44:12):
Absolutely not?

Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
How nice? How much nicer are the dorms now than
when I played?

Speaker 21 (01:44:19):
Well, I mean, you got a couple of things going
on that we've built a series of new dorms. There's
a series of new apartment complexes, and you've seen built
around campus. You know, when I got here back in
seventy seven, there wasn't much at all. It was a
commuter college. It wasn't really a college you came to
and lived on campus. And now it's converted to being,

(01:44:43):
you know, live on campus community. So a lot of
the older homes have been converted to apartments. They're building
brand new Uptown Reality is building all kinds of new apartments.
The University's built new dorms. A lot of the players
live over in our apartment in complex called Corey. Other
players live in different apartment complexes now, so it's a

(01:45:07):
completely different environment and time of year or time of
athletics where the kids are mostly living out of doors
and living on you know, living in apartments.

Speaker 2 (01:45:24):
Let me ask you about something that actually someone reached
out to us on social media yesterday and asked about
and it pertains to Nicklodolo. You know, the Reds are
in the thick of a wild card hunt right now.
They enter today one game behind the New York Mets,
six games over five hundred. Yet they're doing so right
now without the services of one of their starting pitchers,
who is having a good year in Nick Loodolo. Right

(01:45:47):
now he's not with the team Bob because of a
blister on his left hand, and he is obviously a
left handed pitcher. This isn't the first time that Lodolo
has dealt with a blister. He's been on the The
Angelist multiple time because of that. And I think if
you just think blister, you're like, wow, does he really
need to miss that much time? But talk about just
the Let's start with maybe the pain and what can

(01:46:09):
cause a blister on the pitching hand of a major
league baseball pitcher and how hard that can be to navigate.

Speaker 21 (01:46:16):
It can be pretty hard to navigate it, obviously in
this case, especially because blisters are friction stress points. So
when you get them on your foot, your hand, kins
with weightlifting get them in the palm in their hand.
Pictures obviously are trying to put different pressures with their fingers.

Speaker 5 (01:46:33):
On the ball.

Speaker 21 (01:46:35):
And anytime you have a friction point where it's a
rum mark, when you get that skin rum mark on
the underlayer of substutaneous tissue and fashion, you can end
up with a blister. And all the blister is it's
a hotspot, so the body it gaps and says, well,
I'm going to produce some extra fluid, and all of

(01:46:56):
a sudden you have this fluid filled pocket. And you've
got to be careful, you know. I tell many people,
you know, don't automatically pop them until you're sure that
you've got to stow environment because if you go and
pop these things, they can they can get infected on you.
So you've got to be really careful with that. So
the bottom line is that you know, when you get

(01:47:17):
it on a picture, they need those fingers for control.
They have to put those fingers across the seams of
the ball. They have to put them a long parallel
to the seams of the ball. And when it's come
out of their hand, that ball is being torqued by
the hand and the fingers to get the spin that
you want, whether it's a you know, curveball, slider or whatever. Now,

(01:47:39):
once you start building up that fluid underneath the skin,
I e. Your hotspot turns to a blister. Now all
of a sudden, it hurts. I mean, and you've had
your share of blisters, you know what I'm talking about.
And you have to be very protective to make sure
that you're not going to get a infection between the
skin and the sub contaneous tissue. There's all kinds of

(01:48:02):
products that we make now that try to mimic skin,
but again in a picture's case, they don't work very well.
They also make different products that you can paint literally
paint on the skin to try to stiffen that tissue.
But again that's you know that that is only superficial.

(01:48:24):
When you're trying to squeeze a ball and then rip
that ball at you know, eighty ninety miles an hour,
it still leaves your hand with a friction mark, and
so you know, again you've got to protect that skin.
You know, modalities we use or things like you know,
laser or electrical stem to reduce the swelling. But again,

(01:48:49):
you're trying to give that skin and this is I'm
sure with the you know, what their staff is trying
to do is get that skin to toughen up and
scar down so that you can put that ball in
your handy game and really get the grip that you
need to control your slider and your curveball.

Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
When it's something that we've seen now so twice last
year with the finger, we see it once this year.
Are there certain players, because I would imagine every pitcher
in Major League Baseball is put an immense amount of
pressure on their finger and on the pressure points. Is
it just one of those things as we've talked about
last week with soft tissue injuries as well. Are there
just players that are more susceptible to getting and struggling

(01:49:28):
with maybe blisters than other players would be.

Speaker 9 (01:49:32):
Oh?

Speaker 21 (01:49:32):
Sure, you know there's kids who are You know, there
are players or people with more sensitive skin, and the
bottom line is that they may be more susceptible to
getting that rub friction hot spot. And again once it happens,
now you want to take some precaution with in the future,

(01:49:54):
and you can do some techniques to toughen the skin up.
But again, the skin is one thing. The blister occurs
between the outer dermis layer and the under layer, and
it's that area under the layer that starts to bubble
up or the fluid builds up. In order to protect

(01:50:15):
it so that, you know, the player has to be
a little bit careful so that they, you know, again,
don't get that thing infected, and the staff really has
to manage it well. But again, you're trying to get
that tissue toughened up to get them back out there
and pitching, and you can use modalities and you can
use some other techniques to try to get them to

(01:50:38):
have good sensation control. Again, you know, you get hyper sensitive.
It's very touchy feeling type of situation, so that you
you know, you you're not very comfortable, and sometimes you
have to desensitize the skin.

Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
How much how much are you From a rehab standpoint,
I imagine you have to let it heal completely. If not,
you're going to just reopen the blister. It would feel
like so Ye went from a I guess a treatment
point of view that there is no way to kind
of rush treatment along. There's no way to get back
out there earlier. You've got to make sure things are
completely healed, especially if you don't want to run the

(01:51:18):
risk of a reaggravation of the blister.

Speaker 21 (01:51:21):
Right, you don't want to you don't want to reaggravate it.
You want to make sure the skin is completely intact.
You want to make sure they're slowly doing activities. Again,
just like almost any other soft taste, because this is
a problem in a player who's a skilled position thrower,
who requires to have that grip to get the spin

(01:51:44):
on the ball that they need in order to control
what they want to come out of their hand. And
that's not easy.

Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
How how long are you is it? Every blister is
going to take its own kind of course, own path,
because we we've seen now with the Reds as pertains
to Lodolo that he's going to start throwing. Now he's
going to start facing some hitters. I would imagine you're
just extremely careful leading up and then once you're cleared,
you're back to It's not one of those injuries. I
would imagine you have to kind of lean back in

(01:52:13):
on a pitch count your first start. Once a tealthy
you're back ready to go.

Speaker 21 (01:52:18):
It should be, you know, in most cases it should be.
But again, you're ramping it up just like they're doing progressively.
You know, they're taking their time in terms of in
terms of having him start slow progressive build up where
they're just letting him throw some batting practice and they
throw some this. You know, then they might try, hey,

(01:52:39):
let's do a little curveball, Let's try a little slider.
You know, see how seals coming out of your hand,
and then you know, go from go from there. But
again it's also load. You know, does he just throw
ten pitches? Does he throw twenty pitches? Is he a
reliever coming in for just you know, and half an

(01:53:00):
inning or is he going to face one batter? Or
does they expect him to start? Do they expect him
to go? And again, in his case, obviously he's a starter.
You know, they're expecting him to go six you know, six,
six and a half innings.

Speaker 2 (01:53:15):
That is that's Bob man Jean from University of Cincinnati,
Novcare Bob, all the sports you've worked with over the years,
do you have a favorite that you've worked with, like
a not a favorite athlete, because we know the answer
to that, but do you have a favorite sport?

Speaker 21 (01:53:29):
Well, obviously, I've worked football in basketball my whole career.
You know, That's what I started with in college at
the University of Pittsburgh, and over the years I've been
blessed to work with some great athletes like yourself and
and enjoy my time at the University of Since with
football and then got to spend time working you know,

(01:53:52):
basketball here with some great athletes as well. So you know,
I really enjoy football and basketball a lot. You know,
it's just when you get my age to the football anymore,
So you know, you got to move on, and I'm
fortunate enough to hopefully finish up my career going college basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
What about from an athlete standpoint, not that maybe the best,
but just the best shear all around athlete. Does someone
stand out?

Speaker 21 (01:54:19):
Well, obviously it's Tony Pike. I mean, you know, there's
there's only one Tony Pike, you know, and I try,
you know, so we're very fortunate that, you know, Tony
was able to teach Travis how to be the great
athlete that he is and Jason how to be the
great center than he was.

Speaker 2 (01:54:40):
Thank you.

Speaker 21 (01:54:40):
So you know that was that was the top of
my career, Austin, was the ability to work with Tony Austin.

Speaker 2 (01:54:48):
Let's clip that and then let's send out to the
folks at New Heights if we can see what I
can do. Bob, you're the best man. I look forward
to talking every week. When we talk, next week we
either be talking about the Bearcats getting ready to play
at Nebraska or the Bearcats beating the corn Huskers, one
of the two. I look forward to catching up next week.

Speaker 9 (01:55:06):
You got it.

Speaker 21 (01:55:07):
I'm ready for it.

Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
Thank you. Thank you, Bob. Have a great week. That
is Bob man Jean, University of Cincinnati and Novacare. Whether
you're dealing with injury or just making you hell the
priority Novacare rehabilitations here for you. There's no better time
than now to make Novacare's movement experts part of your
healthcare team. Starting care is easy and for some may
not even require a prescription for physical therapy from your doctor.

(01:55:28):
To learn more, go to novacare dot com. Today we'll
be back to wrap things up. Quick kits next ESBN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (01:55:36):
It's time for Sincy three sixty Quick hits.

Speaker 2 (01:55:39):
On ESBN fifteen. Moe's not here. We're winding down a
two time sound afternoon practice or not afternoon practicys moved it.
I'm thinking of practices. Bengals don't practice today, they're back
at it tomorrow. Off see there. It's a one thirty
practice start tomorrow, so it's a little bit of a
hybrid training camp coverage day. We're not doing ten to

(01:56:00):
noon because they practice at one thirty. However, noon to
three will be at the practice fields and then Mo
will be there from three to six. Does that mean practice.
Does that mean I get to come break, come on down? Really?
Why not? Why not? It'd be kind of cool. The
last day, that'd be cool if I was allowed to
come and shout out to the Bengals too for making right.

(01:56:21):
There was a day that things got mixed up a
little bit. Yeah, they said, hey, we'll add another one now.
Communications It's going to be interesting to see what kind
of tone tomorrow's practice comes with Little Boy, especially on
the defensive side of the ball. We've talked about those questions,
We've talked about the offense, and probably I think in
my lifetime the most stressful quarter of a preseason game

(01:56:42):
I've ever witnessed. I don't want to do that again.
Surely I'm not going to have to do that on Saturday.
But as we discussed earlier, that was a high stress
situation last night, and I'm glad we are on the
other end of that. Yes, and now we can just
figure out what in the world to do with this defense. Yeah,
what did you have to did? What you mentioned something

(01:57:03):
in the last segment that team you have to bring
the light here.

Speaker 3 (01:57:06):
I'm going to a minor league baseball game tonight. Oh,
I'm going up to Columbus. The Clippers play the Omaha
Storm Chase. Okay, it's dim a dog night wow at
Huntington bank Field or Park or whatever the place. That is,
How many dim of dogs do you think you could house?

Speaker 10 (01:57:24):
Man?

Speaker 4 (01:57:25):
Now?

Speaker 21 (01:57:25):
I am.

Speaker 2 (01:57:27):
I'm obviously a little bit weirder when it comes to food.
If it's a legit, Like you take the first bite
and you know you're biting into a good dog. Yeah
they are I think six or seven. Oh yeah, comfortably.

Speaker 4 (01:57:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
Now there's been dogs I bite into it. I'm like, nope,
way out.

Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
If you think about the I could do the nine
to nine to nine challenge for ninety cents tonight, right.
I mean, that's it's it is. It is tempting.

Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
While you're heading up, it's not well, one of my friends,
it's just hunting out the diamond dogs one of my
friend's birthdays.

Speaker 3 (01:58:03):
And they're like, you know, trying to figure out what
to do, and they're like, oh crap, the Clippers have
diamond dog.

Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
Mat I was like, okay, let's do it. There any
players on the roster that you're looking out for.

Speaker 3 (01:58:12):
I don't know who's on the Clippers because the Guardians
just called up their best players, So he's with them now.
And I don't know who the Omaha storm Chasers are
the affiliates, Yeah, who who do the I should look
that up. I should have known that. I really was
hoping it would be the Bats get a chance to
see you know, Blake Dunn in person.

Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
That wouldn't have been bad. They're the Royals affiliate the
old storm Chasers. So how about the thought Austin looks
like they have former Red Ryan Hendricks on the team.
Is that correct? Did he play for the russ Kyle Hendricks?
Hendricks Kyle probably being the miners after the Reds beat
him up tonight. Yeah, Ryan Hendricks played for the Reds.

(01:58:56):
Do you know have you realized we are days away
from the opening of the college football season? Is it really?

Speaker 10 (01:59:03):
Do you know that?

Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
On Saturday Saturday noon live from Dublin, Ireland. Oh so
they are playing one over there? Yes, twenty two ranked
Iowa State Matt Campbell. Remember how his stock was sky
high for years? Uh huh? They take on seventeenth ranked
Kansas State. It's a big twelve, top twenty five battle
that is kicking off the college football season in Dublin, Ireland.

Speaker 5 (01:59:26):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:59:27):
Now, it's one thing to ease into the season. You
give me top twenty five football to ease in the season,
I'm all about it.

Speaker 9 (01:59:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
This of course leads to next week, next Thursday, of
course Cincinnati Nebraska Arrowhead Stadium, Miami Place, Wisconsin on Thursday night,
and of course big noon Ohio Stadium kickoff number one,
verse number three? Have you allowed yourself? Have you allowed yourself?

(01:59:53):
We've talked about this before Big noon kickoff? I think
is the dumbest thing out there.

Speaker 9 (01:59:57):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
The fact that I can't ease into my first full
college football Saturday and build up to like a seven
o'clock Ohio State Texas start drives me nuts. I agree,
trust me. The fact that you throw that in at noon?
What are we doing? What are we doing? Yeah, I'm
with you, I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (02:00:18):
In the Ohio State has made a bunch of changes
to try to drum up the atmosphere because their quarterback.
Because it's pretty much pointless, like all the big games
are going to be played at noon, so they're trying
to make these changes to at least get people excited
and get people loud. It's tough, so we'll see how
it goes. But I've just only just started to get

(02:00:39):
excited about Ohio State. You feel good about saying No,
I don't feel good about it at all. But about Arch,
they have Jeremiah Smith.

Speaker 2 (02:00:47):
They do how many? How many touches he gets in
game one?

Speaker 23 (02:00:53):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:00:53):
Fifteen at least? If it's not fifteen, what's the point?
How many targets? Are twenty at least? Yeah? You have
to Yeah, I mean the offense should be a cheat
code built around him.

Speaker 5 (02:01:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:01:06):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:01:06):
And they have like a really deep offensive line, which
what about the running back? This is the first time
I've experienced that as a football fan, maybe ever. So
I'm excited about that. But Smith and Caleb Downs, I
don't know, because.

Speaker 2 (02:01:19):
I thought about Ohio State last night when I watched
Quinn Shawn Jukins for Ohio State, and then I started
thinking about him running for Cleveland through some of the
holes that the Washington running backs right through last night,
I was nervous.

Speaker 3 (02:01:30):
It looks like Quinn Shawn's not going to play football
this season. So Jerome Ford I thought he was hurt
oh Man.

Speaker 2 (02:01:37):
So who's going to be the running back in Cleveland?
I don't know. Well, I mean, I got the depth
chart right here. It doesn't have a uh, it doesn't
have anything by Jerome Ford's name. Okay, so got the
charges dropped? He did, but.

Speaker 3 (02:01:54):
They Adam Schefter said yesterday he and the Browns have
still been unable to reach a deal in May, not
until the end of any NFL investigation. Oh so the
NFL is still doing their thing. Oh yeah, okay, which
that could carry carry over for.

Speaker 2 (02:02:09):
A little while.

Speaker 3 (02:02:10):
Okay, maybe maybe I missed the Jerome Ford is recovered.
I saw Corey Kiner got hurt the other day.

Speaker 2 (02:02:16):
Cory k did get hurt. Now we know the severity
of that. I forgot to. I don't know yet now
I believe, Yeah, I don't. I don't know. I don't.
I'll have to check in on Jerome Ford.

Speaker 3 (02:02:28):
Okay, but say a prayer for Alec Pierce as well,
because Daniel Jones is his starting quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:02:33):
Now, yeah, that's not ideal. But whoever, this running back
for Cleveland's going to be might be a first round
pick in my fantasy. They might have a package for
Shador just to come in and well, they're gonna do
his zone read. I saw the conversation they might carry
four quarterbacks on the active roster, so you got to
use one of them.

Speaker 3 (02:02:50):
From a mobile standpoint, what is Let's let's play this
game right now before we get out of here. Over
under Joe Flacco rushing yards week one, four and a
half over, You're gonna go over? Yes, so should I
raise it? Seven and a half over?

Speaker 2 (02:03:08):
He's gonna get at least double double date you think,
so I do. There's even when he's kneeling it out
at the end of the game. Yes, we'll see Ritter
went off last night, kneel down. We're gonna see four
full quarters of Desmond Saturday. Wait for Saturday. Quick turnaround.
Back at training camp noon to three tomorrow. Chad Brendle

(02:03:32):
is next. We're done. Austin go house, some dogs Man.
There's only a dime, man dime of Dog's Go House.
Thanks for listening, Storm Chaser on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Have a great rest of your Tuesday.
