This is Skyline Chile Cincy three to sixty about Cincinnati
from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Skyline Chile. Stop by
Skyline Chile for a three way or cheese coney today.
Feeling good, It's Skyline time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Hello, good afternoon, Welcome in to the latest edition of
Cincy three sixty. You are listening on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, a service of our good friends at
Skyline Chile. Excited to have you back along here for
a for another three hours of Cincinnati sports talk, which
will be highlighted today. Yes, the Trey Hendrickson deal is done.
(00:44):
We will give our thoughts on the Trey Hendrickson deal.
We'll take your thoughts on the Trey Hendrickson deal five
to one, three, seven, nine, fifteen thirty. We'll dive into
all of that throughout this afternoon on Cincy three to sixty.
We'll talk about the Reds last night they fall to
the Dodgers and Austin' We've done this before. Does it
(01:05):
feel like the wheels are now falling off down the stretch?
I feel like the Mets have kind of steadied themselves.
A little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I don't think the Reds really had wheels to begin with.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, I think it was more of the Mets that
were opening the door.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
They had a car, but they hadn't really changed the
oil in a while, and you know, the engine light
had gone on.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
They were thinking how long can we get on him?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Pretty much? Yeah, and you know the Mets certainly helped out.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, you know it. It was unfortunate. But we'll discuss
the Reds today. We'll talk about what happened last night,
look ahead to tonight, going forward against the Dodgers again.
You see opens up on Thursday, Arrowhead Stadium, nine pm ESPN, Yes, Austin,
(01:51):
this Thursday, you see plays football. It has been, in
my opinion, ultra quiet. This might be the quietest build
up to a UC football season that I can remember
in quite some time. And I understand why. I understand
the seasons they're coming off of. But national game, prime time,
(02:17):
holiday weekend kicking things off, it's a little odd to me.
The lack of buzz. Now, that could be one of
two things. You go and you win Thursday night. By
the time we're back on air Friday, there could be
a whole nother buzz around this team.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
When you say buzz, like, where are you looking for
the buzz in the city?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
It just feels like in years past there's been a
build up, There's been people that I would run into
that man you see starts Thursday, can't wait or thoughts
on the season. It's such an unknown because you.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Think is responsible for generating the buzz the team winning,
okay or lack thereof winning. I would say the athletic department. Sure,
I would say us partially.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yes, But I mean like, have you seen have you
seen billboards at all? Driving around?
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
They have that huge billboard down right, so this is
our city?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Or right? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:11):
There are like there are marketing eforts are I just
think and I think it's fair. You look at what's
happened in the last two years, and you look at how
last season ended with five straight losses. I get that
there's not a lot of bus, right. I also understand
the opportunity that's going to present itself on Thursday. Then
if you win that, and then you look at the
rest of the schedule and Austin, I'm sure you watched
(03:32):
a little bit, but there are two teams that were
favored in the Big twelve, and I don't think either
one of them look particularly sharp in Kansas State and
Iowa State. If you win Thursday and you beat Nebraska,
you start the conversation of maybe this team can compete.
If you go Thursday and you get beat or even worse,
you get boat raced, what's that going to do to
(03:54):
the buzz going forward. I just think it's a very
unique spot for UC football, and I for one, I'm
excited to see what happens on Thursday night. Scott Soaderfield
is speaking right now. We'll play part of his weekly
press conferences as we continue to go on. Today, we
are joined by Joe Danoman from Fox nineteen at two
(04:15):
o'clock and the man that runs the show at the
Montgomery and Boathouse, Dean Gregory's gonna join us at one
to talk about some really cool things that Montgomery In
is partnering with to bring in the fireworks this weekend.
We've got all of that, We've got your phone calls five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We also have Austin some headlines being made
(04:38):
around Texas and Ohio State on Saturday, and Dave Portnoy
and his band from Ohio Stadium? Is this Ryan Days joint?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
He's not banned from Ohio Stadium.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
People have said, first the flag planning, now this when
is it gonna.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Stop band from Ohio Stadium? What's the band from? But
he should be there's no reason for him to be
anywhere near Ohio Stadium.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I didn't realize he was partner. I didn't realize they
were partnered with Big newon KICKO.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
So this happened a couple of months ago. It was
announced that this whole big thing, the Barstool College Football
Show and everything was gonna happen. And I thought at
the time, Wow, that's pretty insulting to Ohio State, considering
Ohio State is your most important bell Yeah, your bell cow,
(05:28):
your cash cow, your most important partner in your television
deal with the big tens, Ohio State. And you went
and hired the biggest Ohio State hater known to man,
with the largest platform to attack Ohio State. And you
made this whole big deal about hiring Dave Portnoy, And
(05:49):
I would imagine understandably they've spent money as well on
Ohio players took exception to this. Not only has Portnoy
set a bunch of terrible stuff about Ohio State and
made fun of them, but also your point that you
just made. Portnoy has openly recruited and impacted and donated
(06:12):
and helped get players on the Michigan roster, most notably
their starting quarterback Bryce Underwood, which Portnoy helped facilitate the
funds to make that happen and get him to an arbor.
So when you look at all those things and not
on I mean, on top of the fact that Dave
(06:34):
Portnoy sells merch that makes fun of Ryan Day and
says he's born on third base, and has openly said
terrible things about Ohio State, hired and marketed Connor Stallions
as a part of Stallions offered to get Carystool Sports,
which that's the other thing, like they just think this
is so funny. Cheating is so funny. Ha ha ha.
(06:55):
And like all these different things, why would Ohio State
be willing to have Dave Portnoy or Barstool anywhere near
their campus or near Ohio stadiums? Why would it make sense,
if I for Ohio State to do that. Why did
it take this long for it to happen? I don't
know that it did. I think, you know, there's a
(07:15):
lot of different stuff going on. Ohio State says we
never banned Dave Portnoy. Fox is saying Dave is not
going to be inside any of the stadiums. Blah blah
blah blah blah. But basically, I guess how this is
happening is that Barstool's very own college football show that
they do was going to go to Ohio State, and
that was nixed at the last minute because Ohio State
(07:37):
understandably doesn't want them there. When it comes to Barstools,
like college football stuff compared to Fox or Big Noon
Kickoff or College Game Day, that's nothing, that's a drop
in the bucket compared to those two. Ohio State doesn't
need them there for Ohio State Texas, right, so they're like, no, dude,
we're not letting you guys come.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
No, absolutely, not just a overall on all, it's just
a bizarre look.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I think basically it comes down to Fox made Ohio
State very angry by hiring Dave Portnoy, and so now
Ohio State because they basically have to fit into the
rules that Fox makes them with Big noon kickoffs and
all the other stuff that they've taken from him, and
Ohio State gets the same amount of money as Illinois, Yeah,
and Northwestern, which is nonsense. And part of that is
(08:24):
in Ohio State for not negotiating a better deal. But
they're like, Okay, well, if you're gonna come make up
your own rules, we're gonna make up our own rules.
He can't be here. And whether it's not, it's not
really whether or not it's true that like he's banned
or not banned, or what Ohio State had to do
with it. I wish it was. I wish that they said, no,
we don't want Dave Portnoy here.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
And if you're Portnoid, you don't care because you're gonna
make a ton off that correct.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
It plays into his hand. It's exactly who he wants
to see. It's not the first time the guy has
been banned from stuff. He's been banned from every NFL event.
He's snuck in to NFL media days, he's not allowed
at Super Bowls, he's not allowed at NFL games. He's
been arrested on the campus of the NFL at three
forty five Park in New York City. So like, they
(09:12):
don't need it, and Dave benefits from it.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Everybody wins it is you want to talk about a
zoo On Saturday, you have game Day with Corso's final appearance,
you have big noon kickoff. I mean, that's a lot
going on.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
I do think that this was also part of it,
that they're trying to get generate eyeballs too, big noon kickoff,
because makes sense everybody on planet Earth is going to
be watching Lee Corso's final college game day on Saturday
at the show.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, that makes sense. Other news happening right now? What
about Wilson Contreras last night?
Speaker 3 (09:46):
What did he do?
Speaker 2 (09:47):
He mistakenly through a bout and hit his own coach?
Oh after he got ejected? Last night, things weren't great
in Saint Louis. Neither was the crowd in Saint Louis.
Hate to see that. That's pretty awesome. What about the
Big Dumper hitting number fifty last night? Dumper Man joins
Mickey Mantle is the only switch hitter with fifty home
runs in a season and became the eighth player in
Major League history to reach the half century mark while
(10:08):
still in August. Go Dumper, Go, go, Big Dumper, Dumpy.
We will keep you up to date with the latest
from a roster cutdown day across the NFL. We've already
got a couple now. From an injury standpoint, Dejon Anthony
was placed on the injured reserve. So I believe that
(10:29):
what he has to miss at least four games, Uh
is that what it is? I believe he will. Yeah,
he'll be able to come back. Okay, So that is
I think trending that way. That's the that would be
the major news. And outside of that, it's been a
pretty healthy camp for the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, so far. Some of the news of names that
are trickling in of most of this coming from Charlie
Clifford reporting that Muma john Meta, Raymond Johnson, Desmond Riddard,
Devin Cochrane, Andrew Kocher all have been let go by
the Bengal Yeah. A little bit surprised by Muma Jung Meadow.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Yeah, I thought he was a pretty good contributor to
this team last.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
And I thought a relatively big part of special teams.
But the Bengals are very high on their young linebackers. Yeah,
very very high on uh On, Barrett Carter, On Shaka Hayward,
Joe Giles, Harris really shined in special teams in the preseason.
Obviously Orn Burke's Demetrius Knight Junior as well.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Des Rid being cut. Does he end up on another
roster elsewhere.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I hope he does. But he just did not perform
well against the Colts, and I think that's a I
don't say this just leaves a bad taste, might leave
a bad taste in the mouth.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
I don't say it to be disrespectful. I don't think
Indy was doing much on defense right like I don't
I don't know the times they showed Luanna Rumo he
had like his mouthpiece folded up. I think they were
just bases all get out. Which it's also kind of
unfair for Des. It is with who he's playing to,
Like I thought Jermaine Burton could have helped.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Him a little bit.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
The offensive line in front of him not a great
group either, but I thought Burton missed some opportunities. Sure
he got early in the game, yeah, where Des put
the ball there where it needed to be. But yeah,
that We'll continue to watch the cutdowns. Tavian Bryan, whose
wife made headlines earlier in the week, he has been
let go.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
When you're a fringe player. Probably best for your wife
not to make any off the field, stay quiet, just
serve your head down, and I will probably best if
your wife isn't making any off the field headline, keep.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Your head down and work. You surely don't want to
be doing that when your name is going to be
in discussion for cutdown day m hm. And of course yesterday,
and what we'll spend a lot of this hour on
to kick things off, Austin is the Trey Hendrickson news
that obviously broke after since he three sixty was done yesterday.
But I find the deal done fascinating for both sides,
(12:52):
and I think you could spend it as a win
for both sides. But I think surely this is a
win for the Cincinnati Bengals. That's how I viewed it. Yeah,
the Bengals' biggest sticking point all along has been what
not wanting to commit multiple years because of Trey's age,
and they got away with one year. They get away
with one year of Trey Hendrickson. We're in that year.
(13:13):
Let's say Trey Austin comes out and tears it up
the first couple weeks of the season. They can still
negotiate a longer deal for Trey Hendrickson, they can use
a franchise Tag last next year. And at the very
core of this, at the very core of it all,
Trey Hendrickson gets a very nice race. But at the
(13:33):
same time, he's not among the biggest salaries for defensive
ends in the game. If you think of TJ Watt
forty one a year, Miles Garrett forty to Neil Hunter
thirty five point six, Crosby thirty five to five, Nick
Bosa thirty four, thirty thirty million, for Trey Hendrickson is
a is a steal and you do it at one year,
(13:58):
which is remarkable.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
It really, it really does make sense for both sides here. Yes,
because Trey, you might be thinking, well, the Bengals can
still franchise Tag him, and that's true, but Tag's gonna
be what thirty eight do. It's gonna be between thirty
seven and thirty nine million dollars, And so Trey will
happily take that for another year at a fully guaranteed rate,
(14:20):
and the Bengals likely not gonna spend that much money
on him. Uh So that gives Trey a little bit
of an advantage and Also, it kind of works as
an emergency lever for the Bengals to pull if they
have to. Let's say, Miles Murphy or Schamar Stewart or
somebody goes down late in the year. Well, if they
rupture an Achilles, they're gonna be all out all of
(14:42):
next year. Okay, Well we can pull that lever and
we can get Trey Hendrickson back here. And Trey will
probably show up for thirty eight million dollars.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
And I'll say this, if you want to to find
a way, if you're Trey Hendrickson, I think it adds
a chip on his shoulder for sure. I think he
wants to come out and say, Okay, watch this.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yeah, not just to the Bengals, to the rest.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Nobody wanted to give up anything for me. Watch what
I do this year?
Speaker 6 (15:04):
Now.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Again, we can discuss what this does for the roster,
what this does for Al Golden and the defense. How
much of a difference can it make. We can dive
into all of that. But the good thing here Austin
is as the Bengals get back to practice and start
focusing on the Cleveland Browns, they're not going to have
to be worrying about if Trey Henderson's going to be
making the trip.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Correct, and Trey has twelve thirteen days to get himself
into football shape, no pitch practice with the team so
that he's fully ready to go. And the other thing
is Cleveland now has to prepare for Trey Hendrickson. They
have to come up with a plan. How are we
going to slow down the bengals best defensive player? And
that could lead to some more one on one opportunities,
(15:44):
some wins for a Shamar Stewart, for maybe a Chris Jenkins,
for maybe a BJ Hill, whatever it might be. It
just creates a dilemma for Cleveland to prepare for, which
in and of itself can help the rest of the defense.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Is there any way in your mind if Miles Murphy
and Joseph Osaigh had a fantastic camp that this wouldn't
be done today? Do you think that had any bearing
because neither of them were very talked about a camp.
Miles Murphy was obviously injured for some of it as well.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
But yeah, I would think it just goes to show
that the Bengals are like, Okay, let's let's just get
something done here, because we don't feel like these guys
can can pick it up and do this.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
When I saw the one year, I was shocked that
I got done for one year.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I wasn't all that shocked because I never felt like
the Bengals wanted him past this year.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
I'm more shocked that Trey went with it.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
That's the thing that really is the thing we've said
from the very beginning. Eventually, you know Trey is taking
these Bengals type of deals. Before you know, the Bengals
are just gonna because he's you know, set the precedent
of caving to what they want, the Bengals just gonna
wait him out. And that's what they did, and both
sides kind of got what they wanted, which you know,
a good deal is normally where neither side is happy, right,
(17:04):
And I think that's probably where it is, where both
sides are unhappy, but they're not you know, they're not
giddy about where they're at, but they're not totally angry
about it either.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
And let's just be honest, because we've talked a lot
about the organization. And if you go back to the
end of last year, and I know the clip of
Joe Burrow talking to Steven A. Smith has gone a
little bit viral. But whatever you want to say about
this organization or what your thoughts on the organization is,
the organization took, outside of Joe Burrow, their three biggest assets,
and they made it work to bring all of them back.
(17:37):
Whatever you want to say, well, they're cheap or this
is how they operate. They paid Chase, they paid Higgins,
and they paid Hendrickson and they're all right here back
in Cincinnati. And if you think, okay, here's a one
year deal, go all in with it. Spend the rest
of your money, go get active with the players that
are remaining, Go get active with some players that are
let go that can be immediate upgrades for your defense
(17:59):
or your off line, and go all in this year
with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
And you know, I saw Joe Goodbarry posting about this
that the expectation now with all those guys signed, sealed, delivered,
and with Joe Burrow at the quarterback, despite some of
the inefficiencies of the roster, like at the defensive back
and the offensive line and maybe the edge rushers as
a whole, the expectations should still be for this organization
(18:25):
to get to the playoffs and go on a run. Yes, now,
right now, I have a hard time believing that's possible. Absolutely,
it is not without it is within the realm basically
because of the fact that all these guys are here
and ready to go and the continuity of the offense.
You just hope that can the offense start fast enough
(18:48):
to give the defense time to kind of gel and
come together. My thing is, get can they gel and
come together by the time they play the Detroit Lions
on October fifth, before they go to to Green Bay
on October twelfth? Is the defense at any point resembling
a defense by that point? And if so, they have
(19:10):
a chance because they have to be ready by November.
They have to be ready by November.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, and we will have time for the conversation today. Okay,
great trays here. How much does that individually help this defense?
And what else can the defense do to help themselves
correct between now and the start of the season with
the Cleveland Browns coming up? Obviously roster cutdowns to continue.
Four o'clock is the deadline today, So we'll know more
as we go right here on Sincy three to sixty.
(19:35):
For now, when we get back, we'll open up the
phone lines We'll talk more Trey Hendrickson next Sincy three
to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to
Skyline Chili.
Speaker 6 (19:44):

Men, the summer is here, so JD ready the wind
up band, the three to two other way of cow
swinging a well in ball deep.
Speaker 9 (20:50):
The left field head into the upper deck, State Fair
upper deck. Goodbye baseball number fifteen forcal Rally, he becomes
one of only thirty three members of the fifty long
run club and he reaches the upper deck like he
did with home run number forty eight yesterday. Forty ninety
(21:13):
crushed off the out of town scoreboard and the magical
scenes of just contissues for cal Rawley.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
How it sounded number fifty last night and in number
fifty Austin he left no doubt four hundred and twenty
feet off the bat in the bottom of the first inning.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
So awesome.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
They've won two in a row against the Padres, which
means Padres losing, Red's losing over the Dodgers, Dodgers in
sole place of first place in their respective division. But
it is cool not only to see the run that
cal rallies on, but how the team is winning alongside
of it, Like we've seen these runs before, where maybe
(21:56):
the team doesn't match, but they're in the thick of
a playoff hunt leading in the They do have a
wild card spot right now. They're in a game and
a half out of the division. But it does mean
a little bit more when you're in the thick of
a race as well, and you're producing and hitting these
bombs to help your team win games that are meaningful
in the month of August going into September. We'll talk
(22:17):
a little about the Reds today on the Bengals Austin,
and we'll get to these callers after this this next break,
because we've got to be pretty kind of short. Here is.
The deal of Trey Hendrickson is a breath of fresh air.
I think a relief for many. How much better can
the defense be now that Trey is back? I mean,
(22:39):
this is huge for Al Golden and maybe if you're
Al Golden, we've seen a lot of base and vanilla
stuff so far, and maybe now that you have Trey
Hendrickson you can you can spread that out a little bit.
I think it's gonna be interesting. Austin, we talked about this,
not knowing Trey's where he was at going into the offseason,
but a new defensive coordinator. I'm interested. Was it in
(23:00):
a rumo that was adamant that Trey Hendrickson's gonna line
up in the same spot or is Trey adamant about that?
Because if not, I wonder if al Golden moves him
around at all on the defense. I wonder if if
Al Golden can slide him inside to create better matchups.
I wonder if he can slide him to the opposite side,
or if that's more of a Trey Hendrickson comfort thing
of this is where I'm gonna rush from every single time.
(23:21):
But just based on adding Trey Hendrickson to this defense, Austin,
how much better do you think it can actually make him?
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Marginally a little bit?
Speaker 6 (23:32):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Is it enough to us talking about this yesterday? Is
it enough to get two extra stops a game? Probably not?
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Does it help the run defense? Could it get you one?
Maybe it doesn't change the run defense all that much.
I think that should be the challenge for Trey this
year to come and find out just how much better
he can be against the run. And I'm sure he
heard a lot of the stuff that was being said
up about him and his run defense. I don't know
(24:03):
that this changes them that. I don't know that. Let's
say they're the twenty second ranked defense right now. I
don't think this gets them to seventeenth.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Right This is a defense that had as a team
two sacks in the preseason opener, three sacks against the
Colts when the Colts were playing No.
Speaker 10 (24:19):
One.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
It seemed like did not register a sack against Philly.
So yes, on that avenue. Trey Hendrickson helps because he
led the NFL in sacks. He can get after the passer,
which maybe helps the back end of your defense. This
team still has a glaring need right now. Their run
defense has not been good enough. I still question, even
with the Hendrickson deal now done, Austin, what does the
depth on the defensive line look like when someone needs
(24:41):
a break? Who do you go to? Osai Murphy Shamar Stewart.
Is Shamar Stewart starting against the Browns?
Speaker 3 (24:52):
I would think so.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
So your rotational piece is Joseph Osai and Miles Murphy.
That doesn't give you a ton of confidence right now,
You've not really seen them take the next step. But yes,
from a formidable defense, you are not starting the year
with last year's SoC leader in the NFL not with
the team that is good for a boost on the
(25:14):
defensive side of the ball. And if they were playing
a basic and they were playing at Vanilla, maybe now
throwing this in with Al Golden can can be a
welcome sight. Maybe it can't help this defense. Now with
this deal done Austin and cut downs continuing to happen
across the National Football League today, what is the one
(25:36):
area that they must address between now and the Browns.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Well, it looks like with Dejon Anthony being on the
IR you would think safety is going to have to
be have to be.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
I believe that Cincinnati native Mike Edwards.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Mike Edwards is released by the Chiefs. He's not been
very good lately. I think on four teams in the
last few years he's not been great. But if he's
going to come in and be a guy who's a backup,
then and maybe it makes a little bit of sense.
Can he be a backup for a month?
Speaker 2 (26:06):
With the needed safety generated by Anthony not being there,
Trump the need it guard immediately.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
I don't think anything Trump's the need at guard, but
I do think safety right now there is a bigger
drop off than there is a guard. Sure, even with GUARD,
I think should be the most important position that you're
going after. But I don't know that you can get
someone that's going to come in right away and start
against Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
And I'm not blind to the fact that the Jalen
Rivers has look good with some reps, but I don't
know if he's ready yet, right, So, I still think
you need a top end or at least an available
player that that might hit the waivers here soon that
that can be an upgrade immediately.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Well, they're not going to get anybody today or tomorrow
that's going to start against Cleveland. You don't think so
at Guard. No, they're not going to do that.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
So Lucas Patrick week one, yes, I.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Think is going to be Yeah, I do. I'm not
saying this right right, No, I think that's how they're
going to approach it. Yeah, And that is a and
even if they signed, I mean, yesterday arimirav reporting that
the deal the Bengals offer Dalton Reisner was the veteran minimum,
which to me says, hey, we can't guarantee you're going
to start, and Risings like I want more money, I'm
(27:21):
going to start yep, and Bengals are like we can't
promise you that right, wrong or indifferent. It's how those deals.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Right, I mean, And again that's not that is reading
in between the lines of where we're at and what
we see, not saying that that's the right way to
approach things, because I think it's hard to make a
case against any guard right now that that would immediately
help this team. But it surely is something you got
to watch for over the next coming days. When we
come back. We'll open up the phone lines for the
(27:48):
first time today five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen
thirty will take your calls next on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 10 (27:56):
Join me this afternoon.
Speaker 11 (27:57):
I'm doing the show from Oakley Greens and Oakley Today
starting at three zero five on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Hey, I just talked to my.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Welcome back sincety three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Thanks to Skyline Chili. Another piece of roster
news not for the Cincinnati Bengals, though former Bearcat Josh
Wiley Austin, a former fifth round pick, has been waived
by the Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
This afternoon, I saw that Luke Candre was also let
go by Carolina.
Speaker 12 (28:31):
I was.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
I really shocked at his downfall. Yeah, I wanted the
Bengals to draft I was a believer in Luke Candra yep.
I loved everything I saw from him last year, but
obviously not the case for the first time. Today, let's
open up our phone lines. Here, John is calling in.
What's up John?
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Good afternoon, fellos.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
How are you good?
Speaker 3 (28:51):
How are you We're hanging in there.
Speaker 13 (28:54):
I know you've touched this earlier in the show. I
don't know if you get to continue to talk about it.
But once I heard Dave portnoins and came up, I
had to chime in because we're from the same state.
He's from Swampscott, Massachusetts. I'm from Boston, Massachusetts, and for
him to say someone was born on third base is laughable.
He grew up in Swampscott, which is twelve miles north
of Boston, as one of the ten nicest communities in Massachusetts.
(29:17):
His dad was a prominent attorney. He had a full
ride by his dad to go to the University of Michigan.
So David Portland wasn't born on third base. He was
born rounding third base in all of his demonstrative ways.
I guess there's an audience for that, but now that
he's really tied into college football, I find it laughable
(29:38):
because do we see Brady Quinn or whoever's on any
pregame show or Herb Street. I can kind of take
her lead because he is so pro Ohio State. He
did play there, but we don't want like a Yahoo
doing that pregame. And we know that he gambles a lot,
which I know is legal, but you know it swaying
is going on with that. Yeah, it's kind of odd.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
And he's a very unique way of operating his business
that has been extremely successful, and he has a rabid
fan base, and he does have a platform and he's
great at using it. And there is power in what
Dave Portnoy does, but there also are consequences for his actions.
(30:22):
And Ohio State can stand up to him and say, hey, man,
we don't want you here. Number one, it helps the rivalry.
Number two, why would they want him to operate his
business on their campus given all the stuff that he's
already done, Given the fact that he's helping putting players
on Michigan's roster, Given the fact that he's selling merch,
be searching the name of Ryan Day and his brother
(30:43):
and his family. So, like, I think it's good for
the rivalry that Ohio states like we don't want anything
to do with this. I think it was foolish for
them to think anything else was going to happen. Like,
if you talk, you know, what's that old saying, talk stuff,
get hit. It's basically what this is.
Speaker 13 (31:00):
Yeah, absolutely, And I know a few people that work
for him, not the greatest guy to work for. It
doesn't necessarily pay at the highest level. Is a bit
over the top with some of this stuff. And I
think the only thing is even more ludicrous, guys. And again,
when I say this in this area of Boston, you know,
everybody kind of looks at me strangely, which is just fine.
But how is Tom Brady to lead analysts at Fox Sports?
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Right?
Speaker 3 (31:21):
He own of the Raiders.
Speaker 13 (31:23):
Now that's a conflict of interest. Also, his job is
to analyze quarterbacks, right, So I know on October fifties
doing the Bengals Lions game, wouldn't it be cool if
he got to talk to Jared Goff and Joe Burrow
before the game. Maybe we heard a conversation with those
guys talk at the quarterback position. That would be great,
that would be what he offers. Well, he can't even
do that because he can't talk to posing players. That
(31:44):
is the most ludicrous thing that I can think of.
But you say that around here, and you know they
look at me like a Russians.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
I would love to know if Fox knew that he
planned on buying a piece of the Raiders before they
gave him a three hundred million dollars deal.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
Yeah, that's a great question.
Speaker 13 (31:58):
Great question, yeah, because I mean, it just doesn't make
any sense whatsoever to have that. And then I don't
think he's gonna do Raider games, hopefully not because the
Raiders aren't very good, So they're not going to be
the national game on Fox, I doubt.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
But yeah, there's.
Speaker 13 (32:11):
Gotta be some sort of prejudices coming from his mind
and mouth about other players. I mean, you know, you
can't let them sit down players, because is he going
to recruit these guys?
Speaker 6 (32:19):
Right?
Speaker 13 (32:20):
And if he can't talk to them, what does he offering?
Like at least Tory Romo, as much as it sounds
like he's passing a kidney half, the kidney stone half
the time. You know, at least he gets to talk
to the players and add a lot to a Troy
aik is the best at this because he's, you know,
an older player who is very, very smart and he
doesn't really care. But yeah, all those conflicts of interest
kind of bothered me. But uh, I guess this is
(32:41):
the world we live in, Fellas.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Yeah, that's it, John, thank you man. It is uh.
It is that the Brady dynamic is very interesting with Fox. Yeah,
as I think is the portinoy one. Sure, here we are.
What's up, Mike?
Speaker 3 (32:54):
We know here, Mike, what's up?
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Mike?
Speaker 12 (32:58):
Hey, guys, what'll just a second? Clease just give me
one second? Was preth happens at once? Guy? You know,
you guys get cancer. Let me know if you can
deal with it better than I am. Okay, he got
a little and that she hadn't handed to you last night,
(33:18):
didn't you. Yeah, my boy. Andy Potter has said, hey, Hunter,
that basketball ain't nothing. Yeah, a couple of times on. Yeah,
they gave him a lesson in how to play playoff baseball,
is what they did. Nice play Ellie, Ellie At the
(33:39):
ninth inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Ellie.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
The Ellie dynamic is so interesting to me, and Lance
brought this up. He has played, I believe Austin I
read like seventy more game, seventy more played appearances, or
any more than anyone else on the team. And I
know that he's young and wants to to be out there.
But have they missed managed in a way that may
mean they should have found a way to get him
a day off at some point. He just looks like
(34:05):
he looks war out to me. He makes some of
the boat headed plays, he's not. He's in a slump offensively.
I just think there could be a thing where a
guy's just worn out from not missing a game all year.
Speaker 12 (34:17):
Yeah, that could be. Bottom line, is nobody hit? Yeah
not really? Uh, and you got to figure I didn't
really realize this, but the Dodgers still got the second
ranked bullpen, which almost the whole bullpen that they started
the season with is gone. Yeah, and all these guys
aren't allowed. The Dodgers buy everybody they but now that's
(34:37):
bull crap. They don't buy everybody. All these relievers have
come up from the miners that had to take their
place from the from the shoulders, so we'll see what
happens tonight with herschel. But the prey Hendrickson saying, I
don't think I don't think it's gonna make it. How's
that gonna accept these gas runs that they get against
(34:57):
them all that time?
Speaker 2 (34:58):
It's not it'll help get out the quarterback. But unless
they find a way to sure up their run defense,
it's not gonna matter because teams are going to are
gonna beat them up front.
Speaker 12 (35:09):
Yeah, I mean, I wish I could say otherwise. But
what's the deal with DJ Hill? Is he gonna play
or is he's got some mysterious venereal disease or what
I mean.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
He's gonna play?
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Yeah, if the last we heard last week, one of
the last days of camp originally was set to be
a big team emphasis, and Zach Taylor mentioned that was
gonna be a big day for BJ Hill because he
was gonna go out there and get a lot of
teamwork in, and then they changed up the schedule based
on how the guys were coming off the Monday night game.
But I think all indication is that you're going to
get BJ Hill to start the year. But it is
(35:42):
you have to be curious. You haven't seen them all
training camp much. You know, is there gonna be a
rough factor there with bj Hill, who they are relying
on in a big way to help that run defense.
Speaker 12 (35:52):
Well, I've always thought he's a pretty good player, don't
you guys?
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Yes, I mean, I think he's been part of one
of the biggest heist in football history when when he
was acquired for Billy Price.
Speaker 12 (36:04):
Do you agree Austin for sure? With DJ Okay when
college football is going to be unreal? This weekend on
this weekend is going to be incredible? Do you like
Syracuse kind of see?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
I'm all I think the Balls are going to have
a big year.
Speaker 12 (36:23):
Okay, I like Hypel, Yeah, Hypel, I do too.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
I like Hypel a lot.
Speaker 12 (36:29):
And one quick thing and closing, I noticed the lumber
has come alive in New York. And I hate the
Mets and I hate the Yankees, all of these scost things.
But they hammered Philly last night. They hammered them.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
One down, three to zero, storm back. That's been my concern.
It's less about what the Reds have. I know the
talent that's on the Mets. Eventually they're going to start
hitting better. And you wonder if the Reds maybe missed
a couple opportunities to close the gap or even surpass
them before the Mets kind of have gotten things figured out.
That's my concern with them.
Speaker 12 (37:01):
Yeah, and Austin kind of put it right. Do you
want the Redsis to come into back door or do
you want to earn it?
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (37:07):
I mean either way is fine, but one one feels
a lot better than sure.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
You know, I'm I'm perusing the week one slate Austin
outside of Texas, Ohio State. What do you make of
LSU Clemson? Dude, I have no idea that just the
two best quarterbacks probably in the country. Do you feel
like in years past though you would have known more
about like do you think this is a result of
(37:35):
just being here? Do you think this is a result
of how college football is with the rosters now? I
gotta I had someone stopped me the other day and
was talking about, you know, the inability now to to
kind of find a team you like, see some young
talent and watch that talent mature on a team and
and how they come together and what it ultimately is.
Do you feel like it gets harder and harder to
(37:56):
follow now because of so much overchange, I guess who's
on the roster, what does the roster look like?
Speaker 3 (38:02):
I personally always found it hard to follow anyways because
of recruiting. Yeah, Like I've always I've been very open
about this. I'm a very casual college football fan. I
don't get into the weeds about three stars and four stars.
I don't know where a player went to high school.
I don't know what he's majoring in. Like, I've never
cared about any of that. Mine is who's gonna play
(38:25):
on Saturday. And so for me, it's always kind of
been like, Okay, I'll learn about this player as they play,
but I'm not paying attention to recruiting rankings and where
this guy's at and blah blah blah blah. Don't I've
never cared like the top players, you know, always turned
me off about you're always going to know the top players, Yeah,
for sure, But like in years past, like let's say
I know Caid Klubnik, and I know Garrett and Messmeyer,
(38:46):
and I don't think I could name another player on
either of those two.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I know that a lot of people have Clemson as
their national champion because of the quarterback play uls you
could obviously make a statement by going in there and winning.
That's not a neutral site game. I think the game
on Sunday night's going to be good. Notre Dame at Miami,
to top ten teams playing, it's going to be a
fantastic weekend. I think Florida State has something to prove.
(39:10):
I don't think they beat Alabama, but I think that's
a lot of points to give up if you're Florida
State at home. But it's going to be fascinating. We'll
talk more about the whole college slate on Friday. We'll
dive more into the Cincinnati Bengals to finish up hour one.
When we return, we've got some Scott Saderfield audio. We'll
get to this afternoon your talkbacks. Joe Daniman will join us,
will spend some time on the Reds as well. All

Speaker 14 (40:47):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Welcome back, it's since e three thanks to Skyline Chilli.
Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.
Also on the iHeartRadio app. We've got your talkbacks coming
up in our number two. Other piece of news we
didn't get to yet Austin Jordan Bischel Bischel Bald the
(41:17):
University of Cincinnati, the men's baseball coach. His contract has
been extended to the twenty thirty one season. Obviously, he's
done awesome things so far with the University of Cincinnati.
On cutdowns, Austin, I do want to follow up here.
So far we've seen Seth McLoughlin, Devin Cochrane, and who
(41:39):
else on the offensive line has been?
Speaker 3 (41:41):
Andrew Coker?
Speaker 2 (41:42):
Andrew Coker? Are you surprised that's named Cola at any
of those three that have been let go by the
Bengals of.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
This mildly surprised by Seth McLaughlin. I'm sure they will
be fighting hard to get him back on the practice squad.
I think part of the reason why we didn't see
very much of him was because the Bengals are probably
trying to prevent any tape from him being out there.
I do think he's a project and a potential guy
to replace Ted Carris in the future, but seems like
(42:11):
in the meantime, Matt Lee is probably gonna make the
team over him, which isn't that big of a surprise.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
How much were you surprise seeing Cam Grandy has made
this team? Per sources this according to Charlie Clifford, because
we have talked about how loaded in deep the tight
end room is, and I'm not saying that that Grandy
can't be a great player, and I think they are
telling you how much they see in him by announcing
that he's making the roster.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
Cam Grandy is their second best blocking tight end on
a team. That's his purpose.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
Do you feel like it's Giseki, it's Noahfan, it's Tanner Hudson,
it's Drew Sample, and it's Cam Grandy.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
I don't see.
Speaker 15 (42:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
I think that's how it's gonna go. I don't see
Sample as a tight end, and I don't really see
Gasecki as a tight end. So I see GASEI he
is a wide receiver. I think the true tight ends
in this offense are like is basically Noah Fan.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
So like.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
Think of it as like, I don't know, gonna come
up with a name for this position, but Gosecki and
Tanner Hudson are basically the same guy. Their wide receiver
tight end mixes receiver. So if Gseki goes out, Hudson's
the guy, all right, sample is like an H back
a tight h if we want to call it that,
where he does the H back stuff. He's the sniffer,
(43:31):
he can play some tight end, he can block. Cam
Grandy is his direct backup right, Noahfan tries to play
both those positions essentially.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Yeah, I think it's just when you start to think of,
okay fifty three, how to does that have an effect
on another roster spot that maybe was going to have
more depth as well. Yeah, and that's how it goes
for every teams. You make decisions and that's going to
affect a different position.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
I think part of it, you know, Dejon Anthony being
on the pup or on the I are to start
is going to free up a roster spot where maybe
that's where Cam Grandy is or that's where PJ. Jewles
makes the team, which it looks like he's going to. Now,
these rosters have to be finalized by four o'clock today,
Waiver claims have to be in by noon tomorrow. Waiver
(44:16):
claims have to be finalized by four o'clock tomorrow. So
we don't know what the roster really is going to
look like four week one in Cleveland until four o'clock tomorrow.
But yeah, these little things I think are fascinating something
to continue to watch for. Also, you know, I'm very
curious to find out the status of Jermaine Burton. Is
(44:37):
he going to end up on the IR for the
first four.
Speaker 6 (44:40):
Weeks of the season.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Yeah? Did you we didn't get a chance, obviously to
talk much about Saturday's game. Were you surprised that Mitchell
Tinsley didn't play a snap?
Speaker 6 (44:51):
A little bit?
Speaker 2 (44:51):
I mean, for him, it was a big takeaway that
he'd obviously made the roster because they didn't feel the
need to even play him in a game like that.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
A little bit. But I think it was almost more
indicative of if Mitchell Tinsley gets hurt, we don't feel
good about any of these other guys.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
Yeah, and Burton had already been kind of hurt and
you don't want to. I mean, I know Isaiah Williams
was on the roster the last five weeks of last year,
but I don't want Isaiah Williams on the field, or
Kendrick pryor whoever it might be on the field early
in the season.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
I think that was mainly the thing.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
We have plenty more to discuss today, but when we
get back, there is something that is cool going on
with the fireworks this weekend, and the folks of Montgomery
and are playing a big role in that. And the
man that runs the boat house, Dean Gregory, is set

dinner valet parking, there's an open bar. There's obviously the
view of the fireworks, which it's unmatched.
Speaker 15 (49:16):
We have theater seating next to our building and skating rink.
The fireworks are right in your face, right above your head.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
Whatever.
Speaker 15 (49:21):
They're absolutely awesome.
Speaker 6 (49:22):
That way.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
It's such a it's such a busy weekend, and for Cincinnati,
it kind of falls perfectly. You see, it's gonna open
up on Thursday of this week. You don't have the
Bangles yet you have this awesome holiday weekend. The weather
is going to be phenomenal as well. What from a
detail standpoint, the ticket information, how how can people find
(49:43):
out more and what do those ticket prices look like
for the event.
Speaker 15 (49:46):
There's a website Fireworks dot givesmart dot com. I believe
the tickets they're expensive for there four hundred dollars apiece,
but there are three great charities that really need the
money and we're happy to help them out.
Speaker 6 (49:58):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
So the ticket itself, you're going to get food.
Speaker 15 (50:02):
Food, and open bar, entertainment, fireworks.
Speaker 2 (50:04):
So if you just think of going downtown for the
fireworks and parking, it's expensive. If you think of going
downtown and trying to find somewhere to eat, it's expensive.
If you're gonna have drinks, it's expensive. You're gonna find
somewhere with a view, it's expensive. You guys are covering
that all under one roof.
Speaker 15 (50:19):
The best part about it it is so easy. There's
no traffic afterwards. Uh, ed, Look, Pete Roseway is closed.
There's no traffic by the boatouse. You can pull out,
go left, right, which way and you're you're fine. No
traffic at all.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
It's gonna be phenomenal. It's happening.
Speaker 10 (50:33):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
What's Sunday from far tof to eleven five to eleven crack,
that's a lot of food and drinks. Absolutely, for sure,
that might not be you to see me all day. Yeah,
you're gonna be You're gonna be around.
Speaker 15 (50:43):
I mean they're shaking hands all day long and thanking people,
for sure. What uh what is the uh the excitement
for you guys? Obviously I know that you guys have
been doing it so long at such a high level,
but I would imagine when the city is having a
buzz like it is right now with the Reds are
in a playoff hunt, the the build up around Bengals
football this year. You see what Xavier in Cincinnati, the
(51:05):
sports in this town, I feel like just go hand
in hand with everything you guys have always been about. Absolutely,
when the teams are playing our businesses up you know,
fifteen twenty, sometimes thirty percent of the weekend, whichever, so
We're thrilled to death. It's that time of year.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
It is. It's such a fun time of the year,
and it feels like even though that U see does
play Thursday, it feels like Sunday is like the official
kickoff of the season.
Speaker 15 (51:25):
I would think.
Speaker 4 (51:26):
So.
Speaker 2 (51:26):
For sure, you get the fireworks, which are always they
do such an amazing job with the fireworks themselves, but
to kind of usher in what this year and what
this season hopefully is. Hopefully the Reds can make a push,
hopefully the Bengals can get off to that fast start,
and you kind of get to usher everything in on
Sunday with some great opportunities.
Speaker 15 (51:44):
It's got to be cool. Definitely, it's going to be
a great time for sure. Anything else new going on
at the at the Boathouse, Oh no, you know, we're celebrating.
We're in our thirty sixth year down there. Sometimes it
feels just like yesterday and November we're going to celebrate
seventy five years as a company. Does do you have
an ongoing rivalry with tom uh? We absolutely do for sure.
When we looked at the boat House property thirty nine
(52:04):
years ago, it was a deserted railroad. It was a
junk yard. Yeah, there was an auto junkyard across the street.
We went down to look at that property, and Tom goes,
that's the worst property, that's the worst lot in the
entire city. Thirty six years later, he's still angry that
we opened up down here. I'll tell you.
Speaker 4 (52:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (52:20):
Yeah, he's my competition. Yeah that's good. That's good to
have competition like that. Now he's trying to in competition.
He's he finally has has kind of given in. He
wants my jersey in the the Montgomery location. We'd pay
to have one at the boat house. I see, now
this is what I'm talking about. This is what I'm
talking about. Definitely take that Tom. I thought he was
going to be here today. Well he he don't want to.
(52:42):
You don't want to be in the same room for sure,
as that he knows, he knows what happened. We still fight. Yes,
one thing that that is is something you guys won't
fight about. It's it's the cause that you're going to
be able to uh to benefit again, what are the
uh what are the the the beneficiaries for the weekend,
and then we'll get to the details.
Speaker 15 (52:59):
One more real wear Pink program of American Cancer. The
Fire's Club help support the children and the families that
use the fires Club and a great Another great charity
that ended this year is Cancer Free Kids. They do
research to stop cancer and children forever.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
It's awesome, awesome stuff and the way your family has
always stepped up, this is awesome. One hundred percent of
the proceeds from the event are going to go to
support everything. Again, it's a four hundred dollars donation for
a person, seven fifty for a couple people, and then
I know, five thousand dollars gets you a preferred table
of ten, so you get all of those out there.
(53:38):
One you're going to be eating montgomery In's world famous food,
got the barbecue there, Reserved seating for dinner, valet parking,
open bar, and exclusive view of the fireworks. That itself
everything you're going to entail there with dinner and a
show and parking and drinks. It sells itself. And to
be able to do that and find a way to
give back to such amazing charities and some amazing initiatives
(54:01):
are are always welcome and awesome.
Speaker 15 (54:04):
Absolutely, what is the show in?
Speaker 2 (54:05):
What is the easiest way again for folks to Uh,
to inquire to get tickets or find out anymore.
Speaker 15 (54:10):
And from there to the website fireworks dot give a
smart dot com.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
That is uh. That's Dean Gregor. It's my favorite Gregory.
Speaker 15 (54:18):
There you go. I appreciate that. Yeah, take that to
talk about that. Find that Jersey. Okay, take that tom.
Uh and you've delivered food today, which is even better. Absolutely,
it gets handed.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
Well, that's why we're gonna cut this segment now and
I'm gonna go eat good enough. Dean, thank you so much.
And UH rendezvous on the river Sunday, August thirty first,
UH for the fireworks five to eleven o'clock right there
at the Montgomery and Boat House. Thanks for everything you
guys are doing. I appreciate everything here and UH and
I hope everything Sunday goes fantastic. I blessure, Thank you
so much, Thank you so much. That is Dean Gregory.
(54:49):
This is since E three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. We'll break early, we'll come back. We'll
get to your talkbacks next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.
Speaker 4 (54:59):
Yeah, your chance at one thousand dollars in a trip
to our iHeart Radio Music Festival.
Speaker 17 (55:04):
Text the nationwide Keyword Festival to two hundred two hundred.
Speaker 18 (55:08):
You'll get a confirmation text and info standard message and
data rates applying this nationwide contest.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
That's the festival to two hundred two hundred.
Speaker 4 (55:16):
It's the templest.
Speaker 19 (55:18):
Suppress the microphone, record your message.
Speaker 4 (55:22):
For us then, and don't keep the king, and.
Speaker 20 (55:26):
Don't be.
Speaker 19 (55:28):
A sprinkle spring cold drop oursh that temple to be.
It's our favorite part of S three six day hosting
when you play the topics on your screen and try
not to sanitize it.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
Oh Boy, love is in there? What a week? Cat's
by ninety Now Baby, that's by Boy Austin. It is official.
Former Cincinnati Bearcats standout tight end, arguably one of the
(56:12):
best tight ends to ever play in the National Football
League is now officially engaged. Announced via social media, Travis
Kelcey and Taylor Swift Austin are officially engaged.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Let's go I Love Love Man, Love is in the air.
Un believable, got Lee. The size of that ring, Wow,
I mean she's gonna have to have that is a
humongous diamond. I mean, how do you even I mean
ginormous a couple of you know, she's a billionaire. Yeah,
(56:47):
I'd say that's a couple of carrots. Yeah, I'd say
that's a few. Oh my goodness, good for them. You know,
so much happened in the last couple of minutes while
you were talking to Dean there the obvious announced that
has just changed the world in Travis Kelcey and Taylor
Swift getting engaged. And on top of that, the Reds
announced their twenty twenty sixth schedule, which features them opening
(57:11):
day March twenty sixth, twenty twenty six against the Boston
Red Sox WO, which is fun. I don't think those
two teams have ever met on opening day before. And
then on top of that, it looks like PJ. Jewles
has made the team. Man, I mean, what more, where's mo?
Speaker 2 (57:30):
PJ. Jewles is a member of this roster?
Speaker 3 (57:33):
I should say he's made the initial fifty three. Sure,
there's still some times it's a good way to put it,
but I mean, what a day in the Tri state area?
So are do you wanna call him? Tavis?
Speaker 12 (57:48):
Is?
Speaker 3 (57:48):
Tavis's first public appearance going to be Thursday at Arrowhead.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
So that's the thing. Post engagement I saw when they joined. Uh,
Travis jumped on with the busting with the boys, and
obviously Will Compton's a Nebraska guy. Travis said he'll be
in attendance Thursday. Sure. Now, whether Travis is up you know,
in his suite that he has at Arrowhead Stadium, or
he's down on the sidelines, I don't know, but it
does raise the question is Taylor with him? And if
(58:14):
Taylor's with him, is she donning the seapole?
Speaker 3 (58:17):
You would think she has to.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
If she dons the seapole? Where does that rank in
one of the greatest marketing placements ever.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
I don't know how to tell you this tone, but
it's number one and it's not close. Yeah, it's Tupac
would be number two. Yeah, that pictures that picture goes hard.
Tupac is number two. Anything with the Jordan logo on
it is up there. Because wasn't there a couple of
there was a few times it went that people were
wearing it with the Jordan like jerseys and stuff, right
(58:47):
the shorts.
Speaker 12 (58:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (58:48):
Are they big enough now that if she were to
be there, could they even stand on the sidelines?
Speaker 3 (58:54):
No, no, they would have to be in the suite. No,
like there's no change. Well, they're not going to watch
a game from the sideline.
Speaker 2 (58:59):
No, But I've seen but Travis has come to a
couple and he usually no, that's not at Arrowhead Stadium, right,
or he's got access to his own suite.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
So yeah, that's a little different.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
What a day man. That's awesome, dude.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
What a day.
Speaker 4 (59:12):
Man.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
Congratulations to Travis and Taylor. I know everyone's really excited
about and the Bearcat family growing. Unreal, man, oh man,
this happens on a Tuesday. Bearcats win on a Thursday.
Things are looking up for you. So well, we got
a long way to go before all that. Well, let's
get the talkbacks.
Speaker 21 (59:31):
Then, Happy Tuesday boys. Interesting thing real quick, I'm sure
you've been talking about it for an hour. I always
catch up behind and I apologize. But my question is simple, like,
if you're these two sides that are six to ten
million apart, then you overpay for just one year and
you reserve the right to franchise tag or tagging trade
or whatever. If you're the Bengals, is it as simple
(59:52):
as like Tray's just like, okay, I'm gonna give you
one really good year and the Bengels think he's probably
gonna retire anyway, So like, what, how does it have
this way?
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
I don't think they think he's not going to be
any good after this year.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
Yeah, the whole the whole time has been built around
they don't want to pay because they're worried about a decline.
Now you don't have to worry about that. You have
him for a one guaranteed year.
Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
They offered Trey a three year deal worth ninety five
million dollars. In the second year, his base salary was
only twenty three million. If the Bengals had fully guaranteed
that second year, he probably would have signed that deal.
H But they don't think after this year Trey Hendrickson
(01:00:35):
is gonna be worth that much money, right, So the
deal was basically three years ninety five with thirty million
guaranteed and then twenty three million if they want to
keep him around next year, which he would have been mad
at and would have asked for a new deal and
a raise next year, and then they could just cut
loose that final forty million dollars or whatever it was.
And Trey understandably balked at that offer. I don't blame
(01:00:59):
him at all for saying no, I'm not going to
do that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
If it was thirty million this year and thirty million
next year, sure maybe it's a different story.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
But again, golf, it does. It just gives you the
flexibility that if he's tearing it up, you can go
back in perfect.
Speaker 5 (01:01:17):
He's a golf A fast start this year. First two
games a Sunday afternoon at one brainstorm, Hey, let's move
the practices of the cool of the morning. Hey, to
make the Whinnie beet riders happy, hawstay camp, moving side
to the air conditioning. Yeah, this strategy really ahead. The
troops ready to go Saturday at one o'clock. I guess
(01:01:39):
the first game day, Zack's gonna look over to the
fanskin say, hey, I thought the state was paying to
get you guys a dome.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Well, Dave, the previous years haven't had them ready, so
why not change something.
Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Here it comes now here. They're gonna go down with
cramps in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Well, you got to get warmed up at ten o'clock,
ten thirty o'clock in the morning for a one o'clock game,
So there will be adjusted.
Speaker 22 (01:02:03):
And egregious. Austin is your boy, Alex and Silberton's been
a minute. I'm ready for football season, ready to get
the hot takes flying, ready to wash bearcats total. But
before all of that, Tony rank them for you. So
we're gonna go with rank them of softest things. So
we'll go with Sharman ultrasoft. We'll go with soft served
(01:02:26):
ice cream and os U Banning.
Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
Dave the game Man Scharman is I don't speak for Charmon.
I'd love to, but they are super sharp, super soft.
So I'll start Charman, I'll bench soft serve and I'll
cut Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
Are you saying that Ohio State's justified in doing.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
This, I'm saying that out of those three, they're the
least soft.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
I'm asking you a different question.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
I don't know if it if it's had a good
conversation with this morning, if he's from Ryan, I think
that's a little petty. But outside of the way that
we talked about at the start of the show, I
think that makes sense. You know, I like the deal.
Speaker 23 (01:03:07):
Neither side wins, neither side loses. But I'll tell you
this now, there's no more excuses.
Speaker 24 (01:03:13):
Because we got all of our guys in your contract.
Speaker 6 (01:03:15):
We're ready.
Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
We should be ready for week one. If it takes
Tray more than two weeks to get.
Speaker 12 (01:03:19):
Ready, I mean, hell, we're in trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
But he looks like he's in shape. I think he'll
be ready to go.
Speaker 25 (01:03:24):
But I want to ask y'all, if for some reason
we start off zero and two again or one in three,
are we talking about coaches getting fired at this point?
Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
Because I don't know what the hell else to do.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Yeah, if they start, If they start one and three,
that does become a conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Absolutely, If they start two and five, they might trade Tray.
Speaker 26 (01:03:41):
It's the Lord on a Tuesday. Thank god Trey has signed.
We can stop talking about this contract nonsense and just
get on to talking about football. Football, football football. Let's
talk some football football.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Weather always is football Weather.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
Got to rank him for you.
Speaker 27 (01:04:02):
Who gets the most live in game, non field screen
time this weekend? Cooper and Archie Manning, Matthew McConaughey or
Belichick's lady friend.
Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
Or I think they're afraid of Belichick's lady friends? Or
does Travis take it on Thursday? Is he going to
be the leader?
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
If Taylor is there, she's probably going to be the winner.
But then I would go McConaughey, followed by Cooper, Cooper
and Arch.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
What's Arch say? Get down or throw out of bounds?
Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Yeah, get down or go out of bounce. Now, Arch
had a great line, did you see this? Uh, let
me see if I can say. Is that about Caleb Downs?
Speaker 6 (01:04:42):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
No, But Arch Manning was asked the target's not on
He said, the target's not on our back. We have
a red dot on everyone else, which you know, as
far as I'm concerned, that goes hard here he is.
Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
We're going for everyone else.
Speaker 6 (01:04:58):
Target's not on our back, the red dot on everyone else.
Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
Okay, that's kind of tough. Okay, that's from art line
great Sharon.
Speaker 28 (01:05:08):
Bill Kershaw has got to be licking his chops today
knowing he gets the pitch of the reds tonight. Tito
last night in the post game seemed a little irritated
when one of the guys said to him, you know this,
the lack of hitting well tonight. We hit quite a
few balls hard, and we also hit quite a few
balls long well, Tito. The bottom line was no runs
(01:05:33):
in three hits.
Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Yeah, that pissed me off. I saw that too. I
don't give a damn if you hit the ball hard. Yeah,
do not care at all. Launch angle a bunch of
WTP last night. You know what WTP is, what warning
track power?
Speaker 14 (01:05:47):
I've got a lot of that, Tony, heads up. There's
a rating system to help parents out when it comes
to movies. There's g PG PG thirteen R, and then
of course NC Seventeenston's favorite. So your son might be
struggling with some of these Harry Potter movies because they
(01:06:07):
are rated PG thirteen in these frightening demonic images might
be scarring him. I take it your son is now thirteen.
Now you do a little research.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
Thank you. Did I miss something that was weeks ago
we talked about Harry Potter in the pipe.
Speaker 29 (01:06:22):
Tony, Hey, Austin, Tony, first of all, I hope your
bear cast go to KC and shuck him cornhut On,
I mean, going on an absolutely shell shuck everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:06:32):
Trey Haytererson.
Speaker 6 (01:06:34):
I don't this whole case confusing to me?
Speaker 29 (01:06:36):
The argument of long term contract guarantee, money, financial stability,
all this drama, all of us holding out just for
our raise on his current they, I don't know, make
it make sense. I guess the Bengals won this one
here day.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Yeah, Mike Brown's three and zero against Trey Henderson undefeated.
Speaker 23 (01:06:54):
Hello, this is his former president, Ronald Regan and Will.
It's good that Trey has signed, but remember last year
he was with the team and it wasn't good enough.
Despite Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase and t Higgins having incredible seasons,
what was missing. Well, I'm contacting my Treasury secretary and
I'm going to demand better performance from Moneymack. That is
(01:07:18):
the missing key element.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Come on, money man.
Speaker 30 (01:07:25):
This is the owner of the Cincinnati Pro Football Brown.
I have exciting news about a transaction we completed yesterday
that will help the competitiveness of our football team this season.
We have changed the soup de jour in our staff
(01:07:45):
cafeteria on Fridays from being with bacon to Baja chicken
che Lada.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
Nice wow.
Speaker 31 (01:07:56):
Wow to this guy even talked back. Yeah, notable cuts.
I saw Lyle Collins floating around out there.
Speaker 32 (01:08:04):
Brown.
Speaker 31 (01:08:04):
I feel like the Bengals are going to try to
snatch him up, turn him into a Guarden trum Brown
and then Mike Hilton. That return feels inevitable. I can't
say that his coverage was much to get excited about.
But good Blitzer, who knows, Please tell me I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Mike Hilton, Trey Flowers, Trent Brown, El Collins, all former
Bengals that have been cut.
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Which one of those for you would you welcome back?
Probably Trey Flowers, Okay, maybe Trent Brown.
Speaker 30 (01:08:34):
The Baja Chicken Enchilada soup will give energy to our
scouting department of four people to scour the four corners
of the continental United States for pro ready talent for
us to draft for years to come.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
All right, that's the Baja.
Speaker 33 (01:09:02):
Hey, Austin, Hey, Tony Brandon from Indy. Hopefully you guys
are doing well. Tony, I hope you had a wonderful
day on the golf course yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Great weather.
Speaker 11 (01:09:09):
Hey.
Speaker 33 (01:09:09):
As far as the Bengals are concerning Trey Hendrickson, I
think it's good they got him signed. We'll have to
see what happens. I knew they had to do something,
but he's had no training camp, no practice, so I
don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
We'll see what happens.
Speaker 33 (01:09:22):
And as far as the Reds are concerned, I think
they just ran out of gas.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
I just don't think they're good enough.
Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
But we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
God bless thank you. It just does feel like it
felt like and I make a ton of Seinfeld reference.
There's a Seinfeld episode Austin where Kramer gets in with
a car salesman and they test drive a car and
they essentially turn into scene how much they can push
(01:09:49):
the fuel until it actually runs out, so they try
to get below E. And I feel like what the
Reds have done has been kind of like that they
just don't have the horses to match up with these
other teams. And I feel like they have gotten everything
out of what they have. But there's a team with
maybe newer tires, maybe that just filled up on gas,
(01:10:10):
and the Mets that went through this rocky stage and
now they're kind of finding their level. And I think
you're going to look back and think, Man, there was
too many wasted opportunities for the Reds.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Yeah, at the end of the year, it won't be
that the Reds missed the playoffs, will be that they
just ran out of time.
Speaker 34 (01:10:26):
Yeah, very glad the deal got done. Obviously, wish you
could have got done sooner. I was good for the Bengals, man,
I wouldn't really want to give them more than a
one year contract, but they definitely needed the one year
all the poor Reds and the Mets have refound themselves.
Speaker 35 (01:10:48):
Yeah, always next year.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
Where they open up against the Red Sox.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Hey, congrats cal on the big five to oh with
that upper deck steamer last night.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
It's always one.
Speaker 36 (01:11:10):
Hey, guys, Steven Montgomery, not sure why Joseph Side isn't
getting a little bit more love. I keep hearing you
say things like he hasn't really shown anything. Yeah, he
got injured right when he came out. He had two
injuries in two different camps last year down the stretch.
I think he had six sacks in the final seven games,
and he grated out very well also against the run.
(01:11:31):
And he's playing on the left side, not the quarterbacks
blind side. I think the guy deserves a little more
credit and a little more.
Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
Hope going to why why is this so hard to understand? Yes,
last year he was really good. We talked about that
those last five games going into training camp. The difference
is how many times have we set his name this year?
Speaker 6 (01:11:51):
Zero?
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
I except going into camp with what a great opportunity.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
I can count on one hand how many Joseph Oside
conversations you and moh when you were down in training camp.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
It never got brought up, and the only thing that
the only thing that was brought up was what an
opportunity he has with Shamar Stewart at the time and
Trey Hendrickson, and he never once took advantage of anything.
Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
The point is that this year he and Miles Murphy
have done nothing to grab hold of the opportunity they
were given. Correct. Now, can he be good? Yes, we've
seen it. We've seen flashes, especially at the end of
last year, but waiting no momentum coming into training camp
this year. That's been the issue. Hey, Joe from case here,
I was shocked.
Speaker 18 (01:12:31):
If we see Trey move around on any other part
of the line, he's got that one move. It's half
bull rush, half been around the end, and sometimes he
gets lucky and the quarterback drops back into his path
and he gets the sack. I mean, he's a good player,
obviously led the league in sacks. He's just not a
great player. He's not a game changer. He can't move
around and do it. It's hard to do that one
(01:12:51):
move from anywhere else on the line.
Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
Who I think he's a great player. I don't think
he's an elite NFL player, Thank he's more.
Speaker 6 (01:13:00):
Need of safety.
Speaker 30 (01:13:01):
Let's let's take a page out of that Marvel Lewis
playbook and let's see if old Chris Crocker's got something
left in the tank.
Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
Now, people forget Chris Crocker. He once got hurt and
they put on the scoreboard Chris Cocker. So that wasn't
very good. That didn't help.
Speaker 35 (01:13:17):
Yeah, happy day, Tony and Austin lots to talk about.
Speaker 15 (01:13:21):
They signed their man, those Bengals.
Speaker 6 (01:13:24):
But are they going to.
Speaker 35 (01:13:25):
Get a guaranteed solid D out of that?
Speaker 32 (01:13:27):
Nah?
Speaker 37 (01:13:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 35 (01:13:29):
I'd rather have two edge tacklers than on an edge rusher,
but that's just me. If they wanted guarantees on that
solid D, they should have gone to try State Men's Health,
where if you don't get the results you're looking for,
your visit is absolutely free. They paid thirty million dollars.
Now I'm good, hungry, it's skyline time. Gosh, well done.
(01:13:49):
I was wondering where that was going.
Speaker 38 (01:13:52):
Good afternoon, gentlemen. I'm a bit puzzled by Trey Hendrickson
in this deal. Not complaining.
Speaker 4 (01:13:58):
We got him for another year. We could put them.
Speaker 38 (01:14:00):
But the thing I don't understand is is this man
passionately spoke about the fact that he wanted a long
term contract.
Speaker 4 (01:14:07):
He want to guarantees for his family, and I don't know.
Speaker 38 (01:14:11):
The NFL doesn't seem to be a profession that you're
guaranteed tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
I'm just saying.
Speaker 10 (01:14:19):
Whole time, but I don't know what you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
I've set up this whole time, and I knew he
would cave when they gave him an offer, because will
It's always been about the money for Trey.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Will this result or does part of the offer result
in him being a captain? Is he a team captain?
Speaker 12 (01:14:35):
Now?
Speaker 39 (01:14:36):
It doesn't even live here. I don't know why he is.
Party boys, it's your buddy to talk back, cowboy, hang on,
give me a second. Yeah, I'd like to choose Cony's chilly,
choose friends and at bat Coca Cola. Okay, I'll pull forward.
(01:14:58):
Sorry about that. DA got a lot doing on a
lot of herons and the fires ahead to the old
Bull Park.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
Thank you, cowboy. I just feel like you two did
not acknowledge Sean from Boston's comment about Tony Romo that
was funny.
Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
He pretty much said the only think Tony Romo contributes
to broadcast seeing his Mackey noises like he's passing a
kidney stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:15:27):
He oh, I don't know, Jim, that's funny stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
Also, Mike from LA gos stop calling. He don't get
on me, Austin, I call the show.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
I will say this.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
I got a couple of texts from Mike and La
saying about the random venereal disease comment he made about
bj Hill. That was pretty funny. John has quietly turned
into one of my favorite callers. Yeah, he snuck that
one through. I'll be honest. I didn't even got past
the keep till just now stop past the keeper. Yeah,
I mean the noises that Tony Romo make. Yeah, unbelievable.
Speaker 24 (01:16:03):
Hey guys, Jeff and your Richmond. Happy Tuesday to you. Hey,
so sad to see Dez get cut after Saturday. I
kind of felt that was cut. If you're cutting by
performance alone, I think if to cut Lucas Patrick, you
(01:16:23):
know what, try to acquire somebody in a trade, do something,
but he's going to get Joe killed if he's out there.
Speaker 3 (01:16:32):
I cut Lucas Patrick to I disagree with this notion
that Lucas Patrick has been got off. I think he's
I don't think he's been great. I don't know that
I'd even say he's been good. But to act as
if he was Alex Kappa or Cordell Volson from a
year ago, I think is just wrong. Might be. I
think he's been a lot better than those two guys.
Speaker 40 (01:16:54):
Good afternoon, Gentlemen's Rob from Michigan.
Speaker 6 (01:16:57):
Rob.
Speaker 40 (01:16:57):
Hey, did you guys get to ask to see Chris
Henry Junior play Saturday on ESPN? The guy looks and
plays exactly like his dad. Incredible And uh, what's going
on with YouTube TV? It might not show the House.
Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
State Texas game.
Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:17:20):
Oh, that's gonna be rough.
Speaker 40 (01:17:21):
Have a good day, gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
I don't know the details of that YouTube TV that
happens every year. Yeah, I do know this. I didn't
watch the game itself, but I saw the highlight. That
was one of the best catches I've ever seen. Yeah,
chrisinery Jr. Over the opposed shoulder. I believe he's out
in California. Nearly even saw it got away for some
bad influences. Dave the Ohio It's coming back next year.
(01:17:43):
Him and Jeremiah Smith on the season player. Man, he
can't wait.
Speaker 41 (01:17:48):
Check Brindle here. I know everything there is to know
about football. I have a website, I got a blog.
You don't believe me, Try and challenge me on Twitter.
I will own you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
Undefeated.
Speaker 41 (01:18:01):
That being said, Battle Royal this weekend on the river
before the fireworks, Me and the Bengals. How dare you
cut des Ritter? He should start over Burrow?
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
He is undefeated.
Speaker 42 (01:18:18):
Triple trio. I was fortunate last Friday in my twelve
team Fantasy Football League draft to get the overall number
one pick at number one, Jamar Chase at pick number
twenty four. T Higgins at pick number twenty five, Joe Burrow.
Speaker 6 (01:18:38):
Crack them up.
Speaker 2 (01:18:39):
Wow, I love that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
Oh that's bold?
Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Where is uh? That's bold? In your opinion? What where's
the worst position to draft in a fantasy draft? Well,
if it's a snake draft, I'm in six and one
and I hate it. If it's a snake draft, if
you're at the very end of the first round, I
don't think it's good.
Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
Or if you're at the end, it sucks. Yes, you
get back to back picks, but you have to wait forever. Yeah,
and a run on a position player can force your hand.
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Do you want a this year? Do you want the
number one overall? Pick?
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Is it that cut? I don't I with Chase, I
don't really care. A lot of people say Bjon Robinson
is the guy that they're taking over Jamar Chase. I want,
like in an ideal world, I think it is a
ten team league. I'll go up to twelve, but I
won't do more than twelve. I'm fourteen, and that's fourteen
is a lot. I want to be right in the middle.
That way, I have the same number, you know, between all.
(01:19:35):
It's just I don't know.
Speaker 43 (01:19:36):
Right, Hey, Tony, tell me you didn't drop your phone
riding down the fairway and a golf cart.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
Yet that's what it sounded like.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
It really didn't because.
Speaker 6 (01:19:47):
To me, that's exactly what it sounded like.
Speaker 43 (01:19:49):
So you got to swing back around and pick your
phone up and continue the conversation.
Speaker 15 (01:19:53):
That's I don't know what happened.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Yeah, and all actuality. What I did was I said, hey,
I've got this check in at like three twenty four.
So I teed off and then I walked while they
drove up to our next shot. And somewhere in that
time in which I was walking the phone disconnected like that.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
I told Tony because I was producing that, and I
told him it sounded like he got in a car
accident or like he flipped the golf cart into a
water hazard.
Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
I literally was just walking down the middle of the
fair one.
Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
Yeah. And then we called him back and the same
thing happened again. So I don't know what it was.
Must have just been that hole.
Speaker 25 (01:20:29):
Watching that ground all go through Ellie's legs last night
like a toddler was infuriating and comical. And all the
reds Homers in this town want so badly to annoint
anybody that resembles a good player as a superstar.
Speaker 6 (01:20:40):
When he's not. He's just not.
Speaker 25 (01:20:41):
He's around fiftieth in every major offensive category besides RBIs
were his twenty first. He dead last in fieldy percent
engineires the last two years.
Speaker 6 (01:20:49):
But they all want to point to advanced metrics.
Speaker 25 (01:20:51):
Well, despite those bad defensive stats, he was rated above
airs a finger last year, so that lets you know
everything he didn't know about the advanced metrics.
Speaker 3 (01:21:00):
There's also people like you that want to spend everything,
do their their whole power to tell people that Ellie's
no good he's he's not a terrible player. No, he's
not an elite superstar player. He can be really, really good,
and for the most part, he's been really consistent this year.
But he's struggling right now and his defense is taking
(01:21:21):
a step just and that's disappointing.
Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
I just wonder if there's a point where he is
now just exhausted. Yeah, I think that's one thing. Day
Off is incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
I agree washing that.
Speaker 6 (01:21:36):
What up, guys, most not healthy question?
Speaker 37 (01:21:39):
If they're paying Trey Henderson thirty million this year and
they franchise him the next two years to say thirty
four to thirty six million. Basically, isn't that a three
year contract would like eighty five million guaranteed? So why
didn't they just do that?
Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Because if he goes out, I never know, Because if
he goes out this year and struggles, they don't have
to do anything with him.
Speaker 3 (01:22:03):
Correct, that's the point. The Bengals don't want to guarantee anything.
Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
I mean, if he comes out way fifteen or sixteen
sacks again, they'll have no problem paying him again.
Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
Well, the thing is the uh, the franchise tag next
year is going to be close to thirty nine and
it would probably if Micah Parsons goes crazy with his deal,
it'll be probably closer to forty yep. And so if
that's the case, the Bengals are not going to do that.
No matter how good Trey is this year, they're not
going to pay him forty next year. And if they,
(01:22:32):
you know, would have done that deal, Like you're saying,
what if Trey gets hurt, what if he doesn't produce?
That's what the Bengals have been wary of this whole time.
They don't want to be on the hook for that
money next year.
Speaker 25 (01:22:42):
Yeah, My point is that the advancement.
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
You got your point. You hate Elie, It.
Speaker 20 (01:22:47):
Feels Steve from West Union, Austin. You ain't got no
business talking about no relationships. You're one of the grouchiest
version on talk back. I don't know why. Oh, and
Ellie needs a two week break for his family.
Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
Two weeks is.
Speaker 20 (01:23:10):
He is exhausted, fourteen days, We'll see you later.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
Two weeks you can get the guy about him, Mike.
Speaker 44 (01:23:21):
Nobody wants to hear you talk about your Dodgers. Nobody
you call in tells, oh, you really got a hold
of the No one cares, No one gets a fight.
You know what?
Speaker 3 (01:23:30):
Whoa wow?
Speaker 44 (01:23:32):
Second of all, the Dodgers do buy everybody. They have
the highest payroll in baseball, if not second highest. They
do buy everybody.
Speaker 20 (01:23:40):
Don't.
Speaker 44 (01:23:40):
Don't sit here and tell us they don't. We all
know they do. The Reds are gonna win the next
two games, and I want to hear you calling it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
Eat your words, bro Man. Can the Reds win the
next two in LA? It's always repp it in that
he out here and some money hots on?
Speaker 6 (01:23:53):
What up, Tonny?
Speaker 45 (01:23:54):
What up?
Speaker 6 (01:23:54):
Boddy?
Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
You know Bengals getting trade deal done.
Speaker 10 (01:23:57):
You had to do what you gotta do.
Speaker 6 (01:23:58):
I actually like the one year deal.
Speaker 45 (01:24:00):
Let's see what we got now. I want to see
Shamar Stewart unleashed, unleash the beast. The Browns don't know
what's coming to him. Old man flat about to get
put on his back. I can't wait. Ris Man real talk.
Very disappointed last night, Zero he put up Mill runs Man.
We're about to get swept.
Speaker 46 (01:24:19):
Dare I say, yeah, I'm very relieved that they got
the Hendrickson deal done. But you know, this whole fan
base is just really worried about this. Jake Browning, we
got to get him locked up for several years, he's
gonna get away.
Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
Jake Browning and Trey Henderson both on contract expiring contract.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
Something to watch.
Speaker 14 (01:24:41):
So part of my talkback stick is to reference things
that were talked about a long time ago. Quite a
few weeks ago. You talked about Harry Potter. Yes, that
was the today, Tony. What you think about John Moran's
twenty five games suspension? Also a shout out to myself.
(01:25:06):
I am nineteen years sober today.
Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
Nice dude, Wow for you, that is freaking awesome. I
have a buddy who just passed seventeen.
Speaker 39 (01:25:16):
Wow, let's go, Yeah, Tony, Tony, if you need to
lift out to.
Speaker 12 (01:25:26):
Hey see, I think that's where they're playing.
Speaker 15 (01:25:28):
Initially I guess it was going to be at uh.
Speaker 24 (01:25:32):
Lucas Clifton, Indianapolis.
Speaker 12 (01:25:35):
Then they just put it on the doorstep in casey.
Speaker 38 (01:25:37):
Anyway them after the game, buddy, tannel line conversion van
oh one loaded up and ready to go, and you
needn't lift.
Speaker 4 (01:25:44):
Just give me a ringy.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
Dingy ba.
Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
Well, ringy dingy b uh oh. Now I know someone
going out there.
Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
That's awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
Will you get invited to the wedding?
Speaker 6 (01:25:59):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
No, true, that's crazy, no chance. All right, what a
wedding that would be, though, I'm talking about a party.
Speaker 3 (01:26:06):
Well, my buddy Connor just posted that the wedding reception
is going to be bananas. At table four, you've got
Chris Jones, Ed Sheeran, me Cole Hartman, Sabrina Carpenter, Xavier Worthy,
Maren Morris, Patrick Mahomes, and Chris Tapleton.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Really gonna be how it is? Oh, that's funny. What
a wedding that's going to be. All right, we'll take
a break, we'll come back. We'll get the latest from
an injury point of view for the Cincinnati Reds. Joe
Daniman's going to join us at two. We've got some
Scott Saderfield audio as well. All coming up between now
and three o'clock on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 11 (01:26:43):
Hey, it's Mallleger. Did you miss yesterday's show. You can
listen to it now. Search the Mullegger Show on the
iHeartRadio app and join me this afternoon live starting at
three oh five on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Cincy three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati East
Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
Welcome back since he three sixty ESBN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's
sports station thanks to Cincy's shirts.
Speaker 3 (01:27:18):
Before we get into the Postman Law Injury Report, yeah,
you know, the MLB schedules just came out we were talking about.
I looked at the Red Sox full schedule just to
kind of see what their fans were saying about Opening
Day in Cincinnati, and I noticed something strange about the
Red Sox schedule. Two things. Actually, not only do they
(01:27:38):
open at Cincinnati on opening Day for the first time,
but after the All Star break they play the Yankees
just three times, wow, which is crazy. And on June twentieth,
they have a scheduled double header with the Seattle Mariners.
That's very strange, right, a scheduled double head.
Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
You don't see many of those.
Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
Okay, Sorry, I just wanted to bring that to everyone's attention.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Well, as Austin said, is it is time for today's
Postman Law Injury Report, delivered by Postman Law. If you're injured,
Postman delivers just call eight four to four. Postman Tyler
Stevenson played catch and blocked softer practice balls. Nice and
a test of the thumb guard fitted for his catcher's
mitt On Monday, let me say that again, Tyler Stevenson
played catch and blocked softer practice balls in a test
(01:28:27):
of the thumb guard fitted for his catcher's men. Rhett
Lauder could return before the end of the season, says
Terry Francona. Charlie Goldsmith reported that, and Chase Burns has
a bullpen scheduled session for today, and Nicolodolo faced hitters
for three simulated innings on Friday last weekend. That is
(01:28:49):
the Red's injury report. Dejon Anthony is headed to the
injured list for the Cincinnati Bengals. He'll start the season
on that he'll be eligible to return in a week
five and and not injury related, but some of the
other roster moves that the Bengals have made up to
this point. Devin Cochrane, Andrew Cooker, Raymond Johnson, Seth McLaughlan,
(01:29:14):
Muma Jong Meta des Ritter among some of the names
that have been cut by the Cincinnati Bengals Today.
Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
A bunch yesterday as well. Yeah, not all that surprising question.
Messi has the most liked Instagram photo history. It was
just seventy five million. Will this Taylor Swift, Travis Kelcey
announcements are past.
Speaker 6 (01:29:35):
Yes, I think so.
Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
I think so.
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
Messi's on the list like five times.
Speaker 3 (01:29:39):
MESSI I think has the most Instagram followers in the world,
if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Now oddly enough, number two on the list is just
a photo of an egg. Have you ever seen that
has sixty point fo Yeah, I've heard about million likes. Yeah,
I've heard about that. Not sure what the egg is
all about? That was I was. I remember that. That
was a big thing. Remember that whole thing. Lionel mess
is uh.
Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
In fifty two minutes, Taylor Swift has seven point six million.
Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
Yes, they're gonna, they're going to crush that.
Speaker 3 (01:30:07):
She has. Messi has five hundred and six million Instagram follows.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
Taylor Swift has two hundred and eighty Oh yeah, but
always more than half a billion people that follow.
Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
But all of Taylor's probably two hundred eight followers will
like the post.
Speaker 3 (01:30:24):
Oh yeah, sure, that's gonna. That's gonna Did you like it?
Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
Crush it?
Speaker 12 (01:30:28):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
I haven't yet. Why not?
Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
That's your friend he got engaged.
Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
I haven't yet.
Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
You know you're on her phone. We know this story.
We've told this story before. I know Taylor Swift has
a picture of Tony Pike on her phone.
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Yep, that happened.
Speaker 3 (01:30:40):
I think that in and of itself, a warrens an
invitation to the wedding should be and B is enough
for you to you know, like so when we catch.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Up on Thursday and see where it goes from there.
Christiano Ronaldo's on the list as well.
Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
You want to talk about a dude that fell off
after we went to go play with the Saudis.
Speaker 6 (01:30:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:30:59):
Some of the other name on this list, I don't
even know what the post would have been about. That's
absolutely insane. But most of them are soccer players that
have the most followers. Is that just because the international
feel it's the most popular sport in the world too?
Speaker 6 (01:31:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
Yeah, it will be surpassed today, not today, probably sometime
in the next few days. How many soccer players could name,
oh man, that are still playing?
Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
Yeah? How many active soccer players can you name?
Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
Pele still going?
Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
No, he's he's not with us anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
What about Ronaldinho?
Speaker 3 (01:31:35):
I believe he's still with us, but he's not active.
Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
Caca maybe, Messy, yes, Ronaldo, yes, Bape yeah, Killian what's
the what's the dude that's got the long blonde hair?
A lot of them Brecksha maybe now you're thinking of No,
not Brecksha. You don't know who Brecksha is. No, I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:31:54):
My real soccer fans out there are clapping at the
radio right now when I said breck Shay, you guys
get me Hagland Nick Hackland.
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
No, I'm talking about the Hagling for Man the Man City.
That's the guy with the long blonde hair.
Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah that guy. Yep. There's also Nick
Hagland here.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
Yeah. Well yeah, you could go up and down the
list here right like who what's that Lucian Acosta?
Speaker 3 (01:32:20):
Yeah he's not here anymore, but yeah, yeah, there you go.

that doesn't stop him from joining us today. From Fox nineteen.
(01:35:26):
Joe Danneman, Hi, Joe.
Speaker 4 (01:35:29):
Well Tony, I need to ask you a question.
Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
Oh oh, what's up?
Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
So Saturday, we went live on our website with our
four options for the Fox nineteen Final quarter Game of
the week. Yeah yeah, okay, four options for Witt and
Voyds and Kings, Oak Hill's, Lakota East, Yeah, Cubcats and
Elder and Batavia at readings and with voting set to
(01:36:01):
close in six hours and more than one thousand votes in.
It's an absolute beat down, a runaway Batavia and Reddings.
It's going to be the Fox nineteen Game of the Week.
I have to know how you got the entire township
(01:36:22):
wedding to go to our website push this thing. You
got sixty percent.
Speaker 3 (01:36:29):
Of the vote, much like the beatdown that Williamsburg handed
Reading Long Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
Whoa it was? It was zero zero in the second half. Okay,
they are improving quarter by quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:36:41):
Now listen, there's a good talent of Botavia. Their quarterback
was in our top nineteen. Their wide receiver just won
our Athlete of the Month. He's going to play college
football at Ohio University. So Batavia can spring it. They
can put some points up and we'll be there. Man,
the nineteen Game of the Week the VET.
Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
Open yourself up for voting. You never know what you're
gonna get. I love it. Also, I did see this
we got right here in Cincinnati. Currently the nation's leading
rusher as well.
Speaker 4 (01:37:10):
How about Lance Cantrell Talawanda High School twenty six carries
four hundred and twenty three yards man in five touchdowns
to open his senior season. According to Max Preps, he
currently leads the country in rushing yards. It was funny
yesterday I was looking at the OHSAA all time record list.
He just passed Kareem Hunt for most yards in a game.
(01:37:35):
So you talk about a guy, I mean the guy
that played in the league. You know, I believe Cream
Hunt probably won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.
In Lance Cantrell out of Taliwanda High School right now
is one of the twenty five greatest high school football
running games in Ohio history. Outstanding leading the country.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
And is it Domina Goodman calling the plays?
Speaker 4 (01:37:55):
Isn't he Dominic Goodbus the offensive coordinator? Yeah, Goodie High
had a moment yesterday to catch up on the field.
It was funny. The head coach is telling me every
coaching staff should be able to dress and play one
coach because it looks like Dominic still go in there.
He can run the triple option like he's playing for
Kerry Cove.
Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
We also, uh, Joe got the news yesterday. Everyone's been
waiting for the Trey Hendrickson deal has done. What are
your initial takeaways knowing the details of the deal, how
this has played out and now the agreement that's in place.
What were your initial reactions the.
Speaker 4 (01:38:31):
Debate was really, like Trey Henderson in twenty twenty five,
they aren't sure if they like him past this year.
And that's what we've thought all along about this thing
dragging out and the guaranteed money and security that Trey
Henderson wanted. Look, we all predicted that Trey would be
on the field week one. We all thought it would
be under a new deal. We just didn't think it
(01:38:52):
would look like this. And the more you think about it,
and the more you you chew on it, you digest it,
it kind of feels like, Okay, the Bengals really put
themselves in a good position here to control what they
want to next year with Trey Hendrickson, So they get
him on the field thirty million dollars. He earned his raise.
Mike Brown said as much two days before training camp
(01:39:15):
that they knew that they had to pay Trey Hendrickson
more money considering the way that he played last year
and his entire contract in Cincinnati. But obviously they're worried
about his age. He'll be thirty one in December and
going forward, they didn't want to guarantee money. So now
next year they get to control what they want to
(01:39:35):
do with them. If it goes out and sets the
road on fire, they can offer another contract, They can
try to franchise tag him, even though that number will
be ridiculously high, believe around forty million dollars, or they
can let him walk and they get a compensatory pick
that should probably be around a third or fourth rounder.
So it feels like, you know, in the business of
good business, this was good business by the Bengals to
(01:39:59):
get done with the they wanted. That's to get Trey
on the field. With the big three already signed being Joe,
Jamar and t and you add him to it. He
got a shot to get this team back to the
playoffs this year, and they knew that they couldn't do
that without him. And they buy time for the young
defensive ends to start to produce and start to develop,
(01:40:19):
and that being Shamar Stewart namely. So I think if
you're looking for a clear winner here, and it's hard
to say that Trey Henderson is the loser in this
one when you get fourteen extra million dollars, But to me,
the clear winner at the Bangalist because they have now
controlled what they want to do with Trey after the
twenty twenty five seasons.
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
On the field itself, he's not been the greatest defender
against the run. How much better can he make the
product we've seen up to this point, And I know
we've not seen the full product, and I know Al
Golden has talked about keeping things base and very vanilla,
but just on a on a defense as a whole
point of view, how much better do you think he
makes this defense going in out a week one.
Speaker 4 (01:41:01):
It's become very InVogue here in the last few months
for people to poke holes in Trey Hendrickson's game because
of what Miles Garrett got and because of what TJ.
Watt got, and people trying to say, well, how does
the sack leader who plays at the same position not
get the same kind of money forty plus million dollars
(01:41:22):
that they're getting, And so a lot of people started
poking holes in Trade's game and they are real. But listen,
I mean, he's not the well rounded player like some
of these other guys that play that position, a premium
position in the NFL. But let's not kid ourselves. One
of the most valuable assets and tools for an NFL
team is a guy that can get into backfield and
(01:41:44):
disrupt quarterbacks, whether that's getting into backfield and forcing him
off platform, or if it's doing what Trey Henderson did
better than anybody in the last year, and that that's
getting the quarterback on the ground seventeen and a half times.
So let's not kid ourselves like Trey Hendrickson isn't worth
the money that the Bengals are paying him because of
(01:42:05):
what he brings in the skill set he brings to
this team. It's very valuable and he's being paid as such. Now,
it is one guy going to make the kind of
difference that we've seen. I don't know we saw this
last year. We know what it looked like last year
with him on the field, and it wasn't good enough
with him. Now, is Shamar Stewart and a Demetrius Knight
(01:42:28):
and maybe a Barrett Carter and a T. J. Slayton.
Is all that together now going to make the Bengals
defense better plus a defensive coordinator. That's what they're banking on.
That's what they're betting on. That's what they've built this
defense on, is young players and a new defensive coordinator.
From what we've seen in the preseason, it hasn't looked
(01:42:48):
good enough. We've heard what's been said by Al Golden,
We've heard what's been said about players by players inside
the Bengals locker room, that they put more stock into
what they did in training camp, practices and in games.
I've maintained all along, whether it's good or bad in
the preseason, I'm not going to judge the team until
they're on the field in thirteen days in Cleveland, and
(01:43:09):
I'm going to maintain that and we'll see what the
Banngals look like. But it's good that they do have
Trey Henderson. I think it's also important to understand too,
that Trey has all along been very confident in saying
he'll be ready, that even if he wasn't practicing, that
he maintained his game shape the best he could so
(01:43:31):
that when he stepped on the field, he'd be ready
to be a difference maker. I take his word in that.
I believe him. I've seen how engaged he is, I
know how maniacal he can be about that kind of thing.
So I think Trey won't be himself week one in Cleveland.
I don't think this is going to look like your
usual hold ins or holdouts. I think Trey is going
(01:43:52):
to be ready to be on the field and play
like his normal self Week one against the Browns.
Speaker 2 (01:43:57):
Has anything that has happened yesterday or today from a
roster cutdown standpoint, has any of that surprised you?
Speaker 43 (01:44:04):
Not yet?
Speaker 4 (01:44:05):
I think I think if Cam Grandy does make the team, uh,
that's interesting. But I also think that's going to be
something that once we see uh thet the dut Settle,
and all of these guys who's been cut, who's been
placed on any kind of an injury designation, that that
to me is them are really going to get our
hands on this and really kind of start to figure out. Okay,
(01:44:27):
was there really a surprise or did the Bengals end
up with extra roster spots because of a Dejon Anthony
or I haven't seen any news yet on Jermaine Burton.
Is Jermaine Burton another guy that goes on some kind
of an injury designation considering his knee issues that popped
up near the end of training camp. So nothing yet
as far as the roster goes, but I think there
(01:44:50):
will be something in the next couple of hours. We'll
we'll kind of turn our head a little bit, or
look out of the side of our eye a little
bit once we see Dost settle. But until then, I'm
very interesting to see if Jermaine Burton is going to
be on an injury designation leading up to opening day,
(01:45:11):
because that, to me, right now, I think is more
interesting than you know, who's going to get the fifty
third spot or the fifty second spot. And it's going
to be interesting too the other guys who are cut
from other teams, that some of those guys might fall
into a need for the Bengals, whether it be offensive
line or a safety position. I know some of those
(01:45:31):
guys have already popped up and people are talking about
them on Twitter. If the Bengals should take a swing
at a Mike Edwards or some of these offensive linemen
who are getting let go, and you know, we're out
of that building. We don't know what those decisions are
going to be, but certainly it's interesting discussion on cutdown
day to see who's out there and who might fit
the Bengals for needs they have. Even less than two
(01:45:54):
weeks before the.
Speaker 3 (01:45:54):
Opener, I saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just cut former
Bengal Michael Jordan, You think they should give him a
second chance?
Speaker 4 (01:46:00):
Joe, No, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
Does offensive line even with the Dejon Anthony news and
starting the year injured, does that change what you think
the biggest need that still needs to be addressed is
it offensive line? Do you do you need to address safety?
More so, how do you view the spots that they
need to attack going forward?
Speaker 4 (01:46:27):
Yeah, if I were to power rank them, that would
power rank them getting the offensive line right before addressing safety.
But I think it's two things that they should take
a long, hard look at. I think it's interesting that
here we are less than two weeks until the opener
and it felt like the Bengal was brought in multiple
people to compete for a guard position and it doesn't
(01:46:49):
still feel like it's fully settled and we know what
it's going to look like in week one. I think
we can get it what it's going to look like
in week one, but at the same time, A it
doesn't feel settled, and be even if it is settled,
it doesn't feel comfortable with who they're likely going to
start on the right side of the offensive line next
(01:47:09):
to a Marius Mims, so that that would be the
power rank for me, would be looking for an upgrade
if you can at offensive line, and then the safety
depth right now is of urgency, so there's no doubt
about it. When you're down to Geno Stone, who's been
banged up but says they'll be ready to play, and
(01:47:31):
you're down to Tyson Anderson as you're number three in
Jordan Battle, who I would argue would be one or
one A right next to Geno Stone. Certainly there's some
depths and they need death right now if Jason Anthony
is going to be out for a period of time.
So that's something I fully anticipate they will address quickly
after they make their final cuts and announce their final cuts.
(01:47:53):
But even though the depth right now is being tested
in the safety room up I certainly they'll they'll find
a way to add more body than the building. But
to me, if you're going to power rank in roster
building and the best way for this team to be successful,
I would still like to see them do something about
that guard position because right now it just doesn't feel right.
(01:48:16):
And that's concerning considering how close we are.
Speaker 12 (01:48:19):
To the start of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
Let's switch gears real quick for the Reds. Joe it
feels like there's been times this year they've been teetering
a little bit, and they've always answered the bell. I
think Elliot times looks like he's a guy that's played
in every single game for the Cincinnati Reds, and maybe
there's a little fatigue there. You'll wonder about the bullpen
and how long they can hold on. Does it feel
to you like this Reds team still has staying power
(01:48:43):
for the rest of the way, or do you think
they fall off the pace here going forward?
Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
I still think they had staying power. I tried to
not be reactionary to this Red season, and I don't
know if it's if it's just me and I tell
myself all the time, do not take social media as
the temperature of the fan base, because it's not the
entire fan base. It's just kind of allowed maybe minority
(01:49:10):
that you see a lot. But it feels like it's
been a very reactionary season from the Red fan base,
maybe more than ever, and I'm curious as to why
that is. I don't know if expectations were raised so
high for this team that people will be disappointed that
if they do fade in the final month, and I
don't think they're going to fade. But I think people
(01:49:31):
right now, at two and a half games back, with
thirty games left and still with the series against the
team that you're chasing, it's almost like you're just trying
to tread water to give yourself that opportunity against the
Mets in early September. And I've maintained for a while
now that I still think the season is going to
come down to the first ten days of September. I've said,
(01:49:54):
I think the Reds are going to get to September,
They're going to be in the race, and here they are.
It's almost September. There's still a lot They're still right there.
But then they have those nine games in the first
ten days in September against the first place Blue Jays,
against the New York Mets, the team they're chasing, and
then back on the road to the West Coast for
three games against San Diego, who I would argue right
now might be the best team in the National League,
(01:50:17):
at least the way they're constructed and the way they're
playing right now. So those ten days at the start
of September, to me, are going to be the telltale
sign of the Cincinnati Reds team, But I still feel
like they've got another push in them, whether it's Chase
Burns coming back and helping the bullpen. We heard Charlie
Goldsmith talk about it or read about it that Rett
(01:50:38):
Louder might be an option for this team in the
final couple weeks of the season. We'll see. It feels
like a long shot, but it's another shot in the
arm for this team if they needed to hear it
down the stretch. So two and a half games back,
if the Reds were win two in a row and
the Mets Blues two in a row, we're right back
at the point where we're talking about this team having
a chance to jump the Mets and get back in
(01:50:59):
the final wild card spots. So I'm not going to
write this team off. It's been a roller coaster, but
that's good. The roller coaster can be fun, right. It's
high moment, it's low moments. But this team has set
itself up for a September to make a run at
the playoffs. And if I were a fan of the
Cincinnati Reds, I would hang on to this team. And
(01:51:23):
if you made it this far and you got a
chance here in the final month, why not let yourself
believe this team can do it and get hot one
more time.
Speaker 2 (01:51:31):
Lastly, Joe, I know Thursday that the game happens, they
start with a power for opponent. It feels like there's
an urgency around this team. I know you had a
conversation with Jake Golde earlier in the week and if
you watched football last weekend Kansas State Iowa State. I
know the conditions weren't great, but that didn't look like
two teams that were poised to run away with the
(01:51:51):
Big twelve. How massive of an opportunity does Thursday become
for the Bearcats?
Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
Yeah? I think the most important thing with this Bearcats team,
Tony is it's finding a way to keep the fan
base engaged. And if you go out and you beat
Nebraska in the season opener, that's a Big Ten opponent.
It's the it's a standalone power for versus power for
conference game on Thursday night. You got a lot of eyeballs.
Who knows that Travis Kelsey is going to be there.
(01:52:17):
I'm sure he will be and that's been a lot
of attention too. Yeah, though that would be something unbelievable.
By the way, Tupac will still be number one chance. Wow,
I'm hanging with Tupac. Austin. You got this thing for
Taylor Swift that you and I need to talk about.
Speaker 10 (01:52:33):
The most.
Speaker 3 (01:52:35):
I know is she would be the biggest marketing more
than Tupac. Which was which was the original question? Good
point you and Pac though I didn't realize you all
was tight like that.
Speaker 4 (01:52:52):
I can show you. I'm standing right next to my
CD tower. I can show you.
Speaker 3 (01:53:00):
The tower, he said, Corey Dillon or compact discs.
Speaker 4 (01:53:06):
I'm gonna show you. I'm gonna I'm gonna take a
picture of it to you and send it after this segment. Yeah,
fantastic Bears beat Nebraska Thursday night. Guys. Look, then they
played Bowling Green that is Northwestern State. And then you're
three and zero to start the season, and you have
the fan base engaged, right, and that's when you start
Big twelve play. And then you have Kansas and Iowa
State and there's gonna be two hard games for this team.
(01:53:27):
Kansas has got a good quarterback, some good transfers, including
a wide receiver from Alabama, and Iowa State has their
quarterback back as well. And I know they didn't look
great Week one, but they got to win, and there's
a they got a good coach and there's a history
of winning at that program. But I think the most
important thing for UC is to keep the fan base engage,
and getting off to a great start against Nebraska on
(01:53:49):
Thursday night would do that and set themselves up for
a really good September. I do want to say this
Kywie Walker and Evan Pryor. There's been so much talk
about the quarterback position, to getting her quarterback back and
having Joe Royer and Dante Corleone and Jake Golday and
Manthy mcdoon, who's a great transfer from Coastal Carolina. This
(01:54:11):
running back tandem. Tylie Walker scored nine touchdowns in Big
Ten play last year for Wisconsin, and Evan Pryor we've
seen as a big play maker out of the backfield.
That to me, if they can get those two going
on Thursday night to get Nebraska, that's when you're going
to see this team have success. If you think you
can run the ball and get Walker and Pryor going,
(01:54:32):
I think they have a good chance of getting it done.
Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
Awesome stuff as always, that is Joe danaman Hey. Voting
ends at eight o'clock tonight for the Game of the week.
So if you're listening and reading, make sure to continue
to vote. Do you think at the end of this
Joe there are more likes on Taylor and Travis's engagement
post or more votes for Reading and Batavia to be
the game of the week?
Speaker 4 (01:54:53):
Reading Batavia and if so, I get a free Chief
Burger from the greatest grill master of high school football.
Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
That guy always so he's killing Veterans Memorial Stadium. That
makes my mind.
Speaker 4 (01:55:06):
I'm going to send you guys a picture of my
compact discs.
Speaker 2 (01:55:09):
Please please, please still send us some disc pictures.
Speaker 4 (01:55:14):
They're in alphabetical order. I did that when I was
like twenty years old.
Speaker 3 (01:55:17):
When's the last time you pop one of those babies in?
Speaker 4 (01:55:20):
I don't have anywhere to play.
Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
When's the last time you bought a new one? When's
the last time you bought a new one?
Speaker 27 (01:55:26):
Geez, fifteen years maybe nostalgic man?
Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
I love teen years old?
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Last time you bought one of those compact discs?
Speaker 4 (01:55:35):
Heck it might have been a Taylor Swift disc.
Speaker 2 (01:55:39):
Boy, Daniman, you're the best man. Thank you showed, Daniman
Fox nineteen You heard a lot there. Uh as he
talked about at the end there with UC football.
Speaker 3 (01:55:51):
I love that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
They're head coach Scott Saderfield spoke earlier today. So let's
do this, Austin, let's come back. You want to do
a quick touch and go and then we'll do a
couple minutes of Scott'sah why not, Nex says no on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks to our friends
at Penn Station.
Speaker 10 (01:56:06):
Hey, it's ma Legger. Join me this afternoon.
Speaker 11 (01:56:08):
I'm doing the show from Oakley Greens in Oakley today,
starting at three h five on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:56:17):
It's been happening since nineteen ten. The trusted leader on.
Speaker 1 (01:56:20):
Quills Cincy three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
All right, come on now, welcome back sincey three sixty
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. We have some big news,
huge news, another win for Michigan.
Speaker 12 (01:56:40):
This is.
Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
I'm shocked by this. I keep a spreadsheet of the
Bengals roster, as you know. Yeah, I had already moved
William Wagner into the cut category. Well because I didn't
think that William Wagner was going to make the team,
but according to Jordan Shoulder, William Wagner has beaten out
(01:57:03):
cal Adamitas and will be the Bengals long snapper in
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:57:09):
William Wagner not to be confused with William Wallace. William
Wagner William Wallace of course, Austin from Yes, Braveheart, you
got it right. Whatever Man Scott Solderfield in his weekly
press conference, his first one of the year, getting ready
for Thursday against Nebraska, spoke to members of the media.
(01:57:29):
Here's about eight or nine minutes of what Scott Saderfield
had to say earlier today.
Speaker 47 (01:57:33):
You know, Nebraska last year was able to make a
bowl game. I think it was the first bowl game
in nine years, and obviously got a lot of momentum
heading to the off season and for this first game.
Speaker 6 (01:57:45):
Interesting game being a neutral site.
Speaker 47 (01:57:47):
At Arahead Stadium, obviously gonna be a great atmosphere, and
we're excited about playing somebody. I think, you know, when
you start out the first game and you've been practicing
against each other for this long, we're ready to see
a different color jersey. And although it'll be the same
color probably jersey that we used to and uh but
we play against somebody else and you know, and and
(01:58:09):
also a really good team. And that's the thing that
I think anytime you're open up the season with a
team like a Nebraska, a team of on the verge
of being a top twenty five team, you know, you
got to bring your best game and you know you
certainly everybody's got to be on you know, the attitude
of mid season four when you're playing this game. So
(01:58:30):
I think coming out of camp, we're healthy, you know,
as healthy as it's probably maybe we've ever been coming
out of camp.
Speaker 6 (01:58:36):
I think Aaron Hemmer and coach.
Speaker 47 (01:58:39):
Niek r Strength, I think he did a great job
this this summer and then headed into the camp of
being very intentional about, you know, with our guys and
their health and then how we set practice schedules throughout
camp in order to get our guys to this point.
And you know, we're heading this this game with with
pretty much everybody that we wanted to be heading this
game with. And I think, uh, man, that just owe
(01:59:01):
those guys a lot for what they did downstairs.
Speaker 6 (01:59:03):
Getting these guys ready to go.
Speaker 47 (01:59:05):
But what that'll open up to any questions.
Speaker 17 (01:59:09):
How much of a challenge is week one compared to
the past where transfer portal and you know, evolving rosters
and not really knowing Nebraska does have quite a bit returning.
But how much is it you know, difficult for coaching
staff to navigate what you're going to see in week one?
Speaker 6 (01:59:27):
Yeah, I mean I think it's certainly very difficult.
Speaker 47 (01:59:30):
And you know, hence why we didn't even do a
preseason voting, you know, ranking order in the Big Twelve.
I mean, every team has got so many new faces.
You know, probably on average, I would say, you know,
low twenties per every team in the country. Obviously some
are in the mid forties, but a lot of people
are gonna be around that twenty mark. And and I
think and then now and also when you open up
(01:59:51):
a season against a team that made some changes at coordinator,
you know, we have a new special team's coordinator. The
defensive coordinator was there, but he wasn't calling the defense.
And you know, Dan Ogerson was was there, he called
the last part of the season. So there's a lot
of things that are some unknowns as you head into
the game. And and then you talk about in Nebraska,
I think ten starters return at Brett Nebraska, so you
know there's a lot of half their line up as
(02:00:13):
new starters, and so yeah, there's a lot of newness
when when this is the first part of the game.
So I think one thing that you do in early
in the game, I think probably for both sides, is
you got to get a feel for what they're doing.
You know, on all three phases, how are they doing things?
And then we'd have to make adjustments off of that.
So that'll be critical once we get into this game.
Speaker 48 (02:00:31):
You may have heard about Matt Ruhlan the third year
and all that the third year is pretty important here though,
what is this something you had pinpointed new facility year
three better players?
Speaker 47 (02:00:44):
Yeah, I mean I think for us, you know, we're
all about building a program. I mean, obviously we've we've
been moving up in the trajectory when you think first year,
second year, hopefully this year is better and it should be.
Speaker 6 (02:00:53):
We have a better team.
Speaker 47 (02:00:55):
And I think anytime that you're taking over a program
that you want to be able to do that. You
want to increase the win total, you want to increase
the quality of players that you're bringing in. Obviously it
takes a while to get your chemistry and you know,
your culture set within a program. Scenes that don't just
happen overnight, and so yeah, you want to This is
a big year for us obviously, and you know it
(02:01:19):
for college football is competitive as ever right now, and
for us, opening up against a team like Nebraska is
great for our team and it helps us to know
where we're at as we get ready the next two
weeks to get ready to get ready for Big Twelve plays.
So you know it's going to be a year where
you've got to be ready to go at every single
week with the teams we're playing because of you just
don't know what each team is going to have, like
(02:01:40):
we you know, in this Big twelve conference, we know
how competitive it will be. And but this is a
great gaze here to start the season out with Nebraska coach.
Speaker 32 (02:01:50):
Coach Rules seem to go out of his way in
his best conference this week to say that he knew
that your receiver room it's much improved, but he was struggling,
I'm not sure that's the term he use, but having
trouble fine than those guys, And we know that's probably
not true. But at the same time, is there a
position group for them that you feel that you got
(02:02:10):
a really good handle on or is there one maybe
that you would like to know a little bit more about.
Speaker 47 (02:02:15):
Well, I think for them on defense, their their secondary
is where their starters are back. And so as we
watch Nebraska film, you can see those guys play and
you know, see how good they are, and they're really
good players, and I think two of them were named
captains in the secondary this past week. But up front
for them, you know, it's some new players, like you know,
d line wise, you know, so several of the guys
(02:02:37):
from last year are not playing this year, so there's
gonna be some guys that maybe we're not as familiar
with that will be upfront.
Speaker 6 (02:02:43):
So we really don't know much about them.
Speaker 47 (02:02:45):
And you know, I think offensually they were able to
bring in some transfers particular receiver. You know, you can
go back and watch them at their previous school because
those guys were some good players. But what are they
gonna do with in this school, Like, what are they
going to do in this scheme and how are they
going to be utilized? That remains to be seen, obviously,
And that's why I think you don't truly know until
you get in these games and start figuring out are
(02:03:06):
you know, how are they going to try to use
them and what roles are they going to be at.
I do know they're talented. I do know they can run,
they have size. They're gonna be a physical team.
Speaker 6 (02:03:15):
I think.
Speaker 47 (02:03:15):
You know, anytime you've heard coach Rull talk about you know,
he wants his teams to play physical, you know, try
to be a bully, those type things. I mean that
that's the kind of game this will be of be
a physical contest.
Speaker 6 (02:03:26):
There's going to be a lot of that going on
out there.
Speaker 47 (02:03:28):
And we have to match that that physicality.
Speaker 7 (02:03:33):
People are almost unanimously picking Nebraska to win this game.
There's not been a lot of respect for Cincinnati when
it comes to what this game could turn out to be.
Are you using any of that outside noises motivation for
your guys?
Speaker 47 (02:03:45):
Yeah, I mean obviously you're gonna take any kind of
motivation you can you can get, you know, and our
guys know that not many people will pick us to
win this game.
Speaker 6 (02:03:52):
They don't really know what we have inside this building.
Speaker 47 (02:03:55):
You know, only we do from from practicing against each
other and how we've been able to train all summer
and to come into camp. So you know, our guys
have a lot to prove, you know. And I think
about and even guys that have played a lot. I mean,
I think that guy like le Dante Corleon, I mean,
he's got a lot to prove this year, you know.
And guy like Joe Roory came back for a reason.
Speaker 20 (02:04:12):
You know.
Speaker 47 (02:04:13):
So we have a lot of guys in this in
this building, whether they're returning starters or guys that just
got here, they.
Speaker 6 (02:04:19):
Have a lot to prove.
Speaker 47 (02:04:20):
And I think, you know, what better way to prove
it against the team that maybe not many people are
picking us against.
Speaker 6 (02:04:25):
I mean, so there's definitely motivation.
Speaker 49 (02:04:28):
Scott first two seasons here having lived up to the
standards that so many great Bearcats teams have set over
the last twenty years. Do you guys feel like you
winning this game Thursday could propel you to the season
that you want to have and get back to playing
for a Big twelve championship.
Speaker 6 (02:04:45):
Well, I mean, I certainly think it would help. You know,
if you win this game.
Speaker 47 (02:04:48):
It's it's it's obviously it's the first game you know
of a twelve. It's a team that's very recognizable nationally,
a team which everybody think is going to have a
great year this year. So yeah, absolutely to go to
go get a w in this game. It certainly can
set you up when you head in the Week two
for sure. You know it's not a make or break game, though,
you know, I think as we get to the Big
(02:05:10):
twelve play, we want to be very competitive and go
to Dallas, and that's that's been our team's goal. And
so you know, no matter what happens this week, we're
gonna get ready for Week two. Obviously, we're gonna put
everything we can into this week to go out here
and get a big win because this is obviously would
be huge for us and our team and our confidence
as we move forward.
Speaker 6 (02:05:26):
For sure.
Speaker 50 (02:05:27):
Kind of the consensus last year seemed like Royola was
really good against zone when people adjusted to man. That's
when he struggled in the latter half of the season.
With such a young talent like that, do you kind
of want to default to game planning like he's gonna
take the next step and grow in his game, or
do you kind of just rely on last year's film.
Speaker 6 (02:05:46):
No, I think he's certainly is going to grow you know,
he was a freshman, you know, and so in.
Speaker 47 (02:05:51):
Year two, he's going to be a lot more comfortable
just in college football, the surroundings and all the things
that come with it. You know, he doesn't have to
just going to class and going to practice all those things.
He's done that for a year now, you know, And
with Holgerson being there the last month of the season
and really getting a feel for him, I think certainly
they will build off of that as they head into
the off season and have a great plan, you know,
(02:06:13):
as they head the first game. So I would anticipate
him being a lot more comfortable in his surroundings, in
his environment. They certainly tried to go out and upgrade
some receivers to bring in some top talent out there
that that obviously is a is a quarterback's best friend
if he's got some dudes to throw to out there.
Speaker 6 (02:06:29):
So I would anticipate him being a really.
Speaker 47 (02:06:33):
Really good quarterback obviously as we play this year. I mean,
he was I think was the number one quarterback in
the country maybe coming out. I mean, so he certainly
has all the talent in the world, can make all
the throws. It'll be a great challenge for our defense,
you know, try to try to confuse him a little bit,
try to make him force the ball some places, you know.
But but we have to be ready to go for
anything that they may try to do and put in
front of us.
Speaker 2 (02:06:54):
All right, So that is Scott's Ouderfield from earlier today.
A lot to take in there. I do think it's
interesting that the idea of scouting someone early in the season,
you got to go back and watch players tape from
their previous school, see what their strengths are, see what
their weaknesses are. How are they going to be incorporated
to your best guests into the new system. It is
early season is very difficult, I think to predict from
(02:07:16):
a college football standpoint right now. Love the fact that Keegan,
who's my favorite, second favorite nickoson right there, Keegan jumped
in and talked a little man's own with Scott saderf
You'd always appreciate Keegan breaking down some tape and breaking
down some ball with Dylan Royola as well. But very
interesting to see who and what shows up at Arrowhead
Stadium on Thursday night. We'll talk more about that tomorrow.
(02:07:38):
For now, let's break and we'll go to Oakley Greens,
where Moeger is standing by to do his show today
and every other Tuesday now at Oakley Greens for the
every single Tuesday, every single Tuesday. Yes, He'll just every
Tuesday and we'll throw it there next for quick hits
on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 16 (02:07:58):
Wise Cincinnati, to make us the number one pre said
on your car radio and on the free new and
improved iHeartRadio ad Free never sounded so good, ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (02:08:07):
Since He three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's
sports station. It's time for sincey three sixty Quick Hits
on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 6 (02:08:19):
Was looking for Mo?
Speaker 2 (02:08:20):
All right, I know where Mo's aut, so let's send
it to Mo right now. He's not in studio and
he's not going to be in studio on Tuesdays now
going forward for the football season. He is at a
place that is obviously a big fan of the pie.
Howsehold I am of Oakley Greens. Moe's going to be
there each and every Tuesday starting today where he joins us. Now,
what's up Mo?
Speaker 11 (02:08:39):
The last time I was here, Tony, my daughter and
her friend Mare excited to meet the guy who once
played football with Travis Kelcey. Yep, because Travis Kelsey is
Taylor Swift's boyfriend.
Speaker 10 (02:08:49):
So I can only imagine.
Speaker 2 (02:08:52):
I believe that my daughter, I believe you introduced me
to her as Tony pick I did.
Speaker 11 (02:08:57):
Yeah, my daughter is going to want to know if
you're going to get an invitation to the wedding and
she can can sheet here plus one.
Speaker 2 (02:09:03):
Would not be something if I did. Now, are you
are you broadcasting from where she actually sang a Taylor
Swift song at that same event?
Speaker 11 (02:09:12):
Not that far away? No, we're not that far away
from that spot, but we we are. We're undercover, but
we're outside. It's a gorgeous day. If you haven't been
to Oakley Greens, good god, what don't they have here?
They got mini golf, they've got very good food. They've
got a couple of full bars. You could be inside,
you could be outside. The TV setup is perfect. I
(02:09:32):
love this place. It's great for families. It's great for
you and your buddies. It's great for a date night.
It's it's awesome. Now here's what I want to know.
The last wedding I attended, the couple that we whose
wedding it was they registered? I don't remember where they registered,
but we got a waffle maker.
Speaker 10 (02:09:49):
What do you get Taylor and Travis?
Speaker 2 (02:09:51):
What's on that registry?
Speaker 10 (02:09:53):
What's on the registry? Like wineglasses? Yeah, cookware?
Speaker 2 (02:09:56):
Cathalan set, Brian Kelly get the invite?
Speaker 3 (02:10:01):
That's good question, jes.
Speaker 2 (02:10:04):
What a remarkable What a remarkable group that's.
Speaker 3 (02:10:07):
Going to get a framed photo or something. It's got
to be something, yeah, something important. The term they have
everything that money can buy is true. They need nothing else?
Speaker 10 (02:10:19):
Correct?
Speaker 2 (02:10:20):
What do you got coming up on your first show
from Oakley Greens today?
Speaker 5 (02:10:23):
Mom?
Speaker 11 (02:10:24):
I like how this Trey Hendrickson thing unfolded. I feel
like I'm in the minority. You guys have talked about
it a lot. I am more than okay from every
perspective with how this Trey Hendrickson thing went down.
Speaker 10 (02:10:37):
I do not agree with the suggestion that they should
have traded him before the draft.
Speaker 11 (02:10:41):
I don't agree with the suggestion they should have traded
him in the days leading up to them getting a
deal done. Like, I think this is a good outcome.
So we are going to spend a lot of time
on that. Obviously, four o'clock is gonna come while we're
on the air, so we'll have officially a sense of
what the Bengals fifty three man roster looks like. And
then the question becomes, what does it look like in
a week? What does it look like a week from tomorrow?
(02:11:03):
How different does it look? What do they get? Who
do they prioritize. We'll spend some time on that. We're
gonna go to Linkol, Nebraska for a twenty We're gonna
chat with I think somebody who knows more about Nebraska
football than anybody. He is going to join us at
four twenty to talk receive versus. It's not Matt Ruhle.
Matt Scott Sipple is the guy's name. I was on
(02:11:23):
his show last week, and he wrote a piece today
quoting me saying that I knew no one who's traveling
from Cincinnati to this.
Speaker 10 (02:11:32):
Game, which is true. I'm with you, like you get
mad at me for saying that.
Speaker 11 (02:11:37):
That's just an observation and outside of you and I
who will be in Kansas City tomorrow night enjoying ourselves.
You know, the Bearcats opened the season a couple of
years ago in Fayetteville. I knew a ton of people there.
They've played in Bloomington, spend u c l A a
ton of people that I and I'm sure there are
people going. It's striking to me that there might be
(02:12:02):
good reasons. You know, these reasons are anecdotal. Everybody has
their own. I don't think Kansas City is the easiest
place to get to if you want to fly. It
is Labor Day weekend. The brckats haven't been good the
last couple of years. You know, folks who have been
to Arrowhead Stadium or who have wanted to go to
Arrowhead Stadium have maybe already gone.
Speaker 10 (02:12:18):
But it's interesting to me.
Speaker 11 (02:12:20):
That there's just not a lot of buzz for this
game in Cincinnati.
Speaker 10 (02:12:25):
And this is a topic we have each talked about
a ton.
Speaker 11 (02:12:28):
This is the opportunity on Thursday for Scott Saderfield to
inject some life into the fan base, most of which
is going to be watching it, I guess here at
Oakley Greens. But anyway, we're gonna go to a Lincoln,
Nebraska coming up at four twenty. Zach Taylor's gonna talk
a little bit after four o'clock. We'll have that for you.
We'll talk Red's Dodgers.
Speaker 10 (02:12:45):
I think I'm.
Speaker 11 (02:12:46):
Gonna be the person, the voice of reason when it
comes to Elie Dela Cruise, because you know, we say
all the time, there's room for multiple truths, there's room
for multiple truths.
Speaker 10 (02:12:56):
Often in life.
Speaker 11 (02:12:56):
There's room for multiple truths when it comes to Eli Delic,
who committed an error last night, which of course sends
people into a tizzy so to speak.
Speaker 3 (02:13:06):
Just got a tweet here from someone that says, do
you think Travis and Taylor already have a pike to
Ben's bobblehead? If not, that might be the best.
Speaker 10 (02:13:14):
Give nice, that would be really nice.
Speaker 2 (02:13:17):
Great question. Maybe we'll just send that along. It's unbelievable.
Speaker 10 (02:13:21):
Can you register for one of those?
Speaker 2 (02:13:24):
I might be able to grab one or two or
a couple if you need. Does it? Do you feel
like mo with where this team is out for the Reds.
Do you think they have stain power through the rest
of the way, like in this wild card race, because
the Mets have kind of seemed to find their bats,
at least finding their level. Do you think that they
have stain power?
Speaker 11 (02:13:46):
I think they have staying power in the race because
the starting pitching is just good enough.
Speaker 10 (02:13:50):
But it feels to me like the bullpen and the
offense are built in a house of cards.
Speaker 11 (02:13:54):
Yeah, And I talked about this last week that I
said I didn't think the collapse as that. I feel
like everybody's been waiting for is gonna come. And I
still feel that way. But it's interesting. Sometimes you guys
know this. You do something and you say something on
the air, and then you drive home and you're like,
you know, I don't know. And that's how I felt
(02:14:16):
talking about this, Like Hunter Green is back, didn't pitch
great last night. The starting pitching has been terrific. Now
Andrew Abbit and Hunter Green have to be awesome. Nick
Lodolo has to be what he was prior to him
getting a blister. I think this My take all year
long has been the starting pitching is good enough to
keep them in the race. I don't think the offense
is good enough to help them win it. But I
worry that their bullpen is has at times recently been
(02:14:39):
overly reliant on guys who are either overworked or inexperienced
or generally miscast, and that in August and September isn't
a great recipe for success.
Speaker 2 (02:14:50):
Yeah, do you think tomorrow night. You can see yourself
perhaps a little easier talking yourself into a win on
Thursday than maybe what we've done and some of the
other openers. I don't feel like it'll take us till
ten eleven, twelve o'clock at night to really come to
that realization.
Speaker 11 (02:15:06):
Well, we gain an hour, oh man, you know we
gained an hour going out there. It depends on where
you want to go, Tony. I mean, I've read Kansas
City has some nice museums and libraries. I know you
like to get a good night's sleep. Yeah, prepare for
the game. It's gonna be a long day on Thursday,
and so you know that. Really, I think that has
as much to do with you as it does.
Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
I mean mentally though, Like, are you gonna need many
many drinks? Are you gonna need anything to talk you
into I mean we've listen, we've been at Ohio State before,
we've been at the Big House, and it may have
taken a little bit, but at some point we came
to the conclusion they were gonna win the game the
next day. I don't think I'm gonna need that much
to think that they can win this game on Thursday night.
Speaker 11 (02:15:48):
No, this isn't UC versus Ohio State, which was twenty nineteen.
This is not UC versus Michigan and Luke Fickles first
season with a team that just wasn't very good.
Speaker 10 (02:15:58):
I don't know what these guys are.
Speaker 11 (02:16:00):
The over under six and a half, so Vegas is
telling you they should at least be Bowl eligible and
finished with maybe seven wins. Nebraska is favored, and I
understand why. And everybody's gonna pick them, and I understand why.
And if you put a gun to my head and
said you have to wager an amount of money that
matters to you on Huskers or Cats, I think the
smart money would be on Nebraska winning the football game.
(02:16:22):
I don't view this as some sort of just insurmountable
everything has to go their way kind of challenge. It's formidable.
Dylan Rayola is good. My guess is they're not going
to be able to push Nebraska around. And a lot
of what I've seen and heard is unproven. Like I
think they have more team speed, but they don't have
a wide receiver who's caught more than twenty five passes
(02:16:44):
in an FBS college football season. There's potential, there's Brendan Sorosby,
who's had a great camp. But I can't shake what
I saw last year, and it is gonna be a
tough environment. It is essentially going to be a road
game for you see. But we've watched them play games
where you thought the day before they have almost no
chance to win, and the point spread would reflect as much.
(02:17:06):
I don't think this is that. I don't think it's
a shocker. If you see wins, it would be an upset,
but I don't think it would be a you know,
just holy crap shocker, which, by the way, it was
in twenty eighteen when you see beat UCLA is a
fifteen point underdog.
Speaker 10 (02:17:21):
This is not that.
Speaker 11 (02:17:22):
So no, I don't think I'm gonna take much convincing.
But you know, we'll say, you and I if you
want to go check out I've you know, I've again
the museums and libraries of Kansas City, I hear are terrific.
Speaker 2 (02:17:35):
That is Moager, mo Off, See you tomorrow, enjoy the afternoon.
Oakley Greens is a great place to be able to
broadcast and look forward. Look forward to that and look
forward to catching up tomorrow. We'll talk to you.
Speaker 10 (02:17:46):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (02:17:47):
Man, Yes, sir, that is Moeger. The Mowagger Show is next. That's,
of course, right here on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Have a great rest of your Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (02:18:16):
Hey, do you run a small business?
Speaker 4 (02:18:17):
But how
