Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Skyline Chile since e three to sixty about
Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Skyline Chile. Stop
by Skyline Chili for a three way or cheese coney today.
Feeling good, It's Skyline Time. This is ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Welcome in, good afternoon, Happy Tuesday. It's the latest edition
of Sincy three sixty. You're here listening on the Home
of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks
to Skyline Chili. Thanks for the iHeart Radio app too.
We're just not grateful for the iHeartRadio app where you
can listen at any point in time. You could also
leave us a talkback. We'll get to talkbacks an hour.

(00:43):
Number two we got We've got I think two or
three gift cards we got to give away this Friday, Austin.
You haven't been doing it well. We didn't get to
do on Friday. Why not? Oh, I was out a
couple of days last week. You were out a couple
of days. You were here Friday. We didn't compile anything.
You were here the last two Fridays, had nothing to
compile you it was didn't do it inmates, running the asylum.

(01:04):
The only thing Drew was good for, Well, Drew was fantastic,
but the only thing he was really good for was
going six and five in our picks on Friday. That's
good for second place.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I mean, you guys can't do anything without me. Can't
can't do anything here.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Oh here's what I'm excited about today. The NFL season
is back. I am so pumped to wake up today
and know that this week football is played. Thursday Night
football is back, Cowboys and Eagles at the Link in Philadelphia. Friday,

(01:39):
sal Polo, Chiefs, Chargers, God Bless football, and then a
full slate of Sunday football games, and then the Vikings
and the Bears on Monday Night Football. I am so
pumped that football is back. And not to take away
from college because I love college football. And what don't
you like about week one? To talk about week one

(02:01):
in college football? But as good as Week one is
in college football Austin, week two might be equally as bad.
Oh yeah, one top twenty five matchup, And I get it.
You're going up against the NFL, You're going up against
Week one in the professional ranks. But it's just a
it's a bad slate. It's a bad slate of football.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
But they aren't though they aren't going up against the
NFL on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
True, true, but I think they feel a lot of
eyes will be at Nipperts Stadium. Eddie George and the
Bowling Green Falcons come on a Saturday. Scott Saderfield. Yeah,
that's probably why the rest of the college slate is
so bad.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
I have a confession to make, Okay, When I looked
at the odds this morning and saw that the Bearcats
were twenty one and a half point favorites over Bowling Green,
I thought to myself, that can't be right.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Well, because you have to start with you can't cover
twenty one and a half unless you score twenty two
at least. Right that's where it starts. Offense has to
find a river.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
And I don't know if you saw or not, but
the Falcons played some good football.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Oh they did. They took the opening kickoff to the house.
As we know.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
You know, the MAC is the best football conference in
the country, So I was I was a little surprised
by that.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
I was was looking at a little bit of Bowling Green.
Do you know the quarterback of Bowling Green? I couldn't
tell you Drew Pine. That sounds familiar, Yeah, because he
started at Notre Dame, then he went to Arizona State,
and then let's spend a season at Missouri. And now
is it Bowling Green? All right? Nice? So Drew Pine

(03:38):
is the quarterback of Bowling Green. What's his last name, Saul.
Let's have a day. Let's have a day.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I think we're both at a really good mood now
that it's it's not Friday, but it's football like it
every day Friday.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well, we'll spend a lot of time on the NFL.
I was gonna say tar by the way, that works too.
We will Uh, we have to bring up what the
folks at Good Morning Football. They made some playoff. They
made people big mad this. They made Cincinnati Sports media
big mad. ESPN dot Com previews this season, they have
a bold prediction that we have to discuss. We'll talk

(04:22):
about the Bengals, we'll talk about the rest of Week
one in the National Football League. Trey Hendrickson was named
a captain. Let's go Trey. So good for Trey. Everything
kind of paid off for Trey. Hendrickson made an addition, we.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Got to talk about this there's a narrative out here
out there that I think unintentionally started on this radio station. Uhh,
that Trey Hendrickson asked the Bengals to be a team captain.
Uh uh, that's not true. Trey said, I want to
be a team captain, but didn't feel like he could

(04:58):
be if he's not there all the time.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, it's valid. Bengals added some help over the weekend.
They did former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackable Mike Pennell
is now a Cincinnati Bengal. Okay, so that's something to
keep your eye on. Also, never good Austin to go
into the first week of the season and still not

(05:23):
really know who your starting guard is going to be.
In speaking with reporters, Zach Taylor said this on Reisner
Dalton Reisner. I think the playbook party's good with it.
Maybe sounds different, but all the stuff he's done before,
it's just okay. This word means that I think he's
done a good job from just taking it all in,
he's done a great job staring at the playbook all
weekend and trying to consume it the best he can.

(05:44):
Getting in here early. It sounds like it makes sense
to him. He's played a lot of football, so he's
heard it a lot of different ways, but still non
committal or the Bengals on who's going to start upright
guard Week one against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. Not
a position you want to be in. There's also some
rumblings out there that maybe there's some mutual interest with
Justin Simmons.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, that was the big rumor. I guess over the
weekend that the Bengals have at least been talking to
tires kicking the tires on Jack and the Times, but
we have not seen that confirmed by any of the
quote unquote insiders across the National Football League. It was
just on the NFL Rumors account, which that's a rumor

(06:25):
I'm all for spreading.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Makes sense.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
I would be happy to have Justin Simmons here, makes
sense if nothing else, because Dejion Anthony is on the
on the ir and Tyson Anderson has played like one
defensive snap in his career, and then Geno Stone stunk
last year.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Not great. Jordan Battle I like, but okay, who you
got sure? So we'll spend obviously a ton of time
today on the Bengals. Joe Daniman will join us at
one o'clock. I got Matt McEwan from Red Brick Legacy
and a new partnership that they have now available. Will
join us in the third hour to talk a little
bit of that. By the way, Miami of Ohio, they

(07:01):
got the loss defensively, showed well on the road of
Wisconsin's three to nothing at halftime. They end up losing
seventeen nothing, but some stuff for Miami to build on
as they go to Rutgers this weekend, who was almost
upset by a Mac team last weekend. Oh you, The
Bobbies were tied with Rutgers thirty one all going into
the fourth quarter before losing thirty four to thirty one.
So the Mac causing some problems early in the season

(07:24):
as well. FC Cincinnati another home loss for the Orangeine Blue.
They lose one nill to Philadelphia. That means Philadelphia's lead
in the East now five points clear of FC Cincinnati.
They are only two points clear as FC Cincinnati of
now Charlotte and Nashville for third and fourth in the

(07:45):
Eastern Conference standings as well, So an awful lot to
keep an eye on when it comes to FC Cincinnati.
We'll get to a conversation about them as the week
goes on. The Reds Austin over the weekend ended a
five game losing skid included being swept by the Dodgers,
first time they've been swept all year. Then they lost
the first two to the Cardinals. It was ugly baseball.

(08:07):
It was bad baseball. They did salvage the final game
of the Cardinal series and then they won Game one
in ridiculous fashion yesterday against the Toronto Blue Jays. They
blew a lead in the ninth inning. They regained the
lead in the ninth inning, noll A Marte walked it off.
South Stewart is a Cincinnati Red We got a lot
to talk about with the Red Legs as well, including

(08:29):
south Stewart's debut Nolfan Marte. We've got some Terry Francona
audio as well.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Yeah, I have a question about something Terry Francona said
that we're going to have to get to. But I'll
I'll tell you why, Tony you talk about feeling good,
happy to be back.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Football is here. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
I took a what was it, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,
five day clinse from watching the Cincinnati Reds, and I'll
tell you what, I've never felt bad.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Do you feel I.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Feel awesome, I feel sharp, I feel focused, I feel
ready to go.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
And then I saw the clip.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Of salth Stewart lacing his first career base knock, and
then the clip of Terry Francona after the game saying
we were trying to get him to move the runner,
and I got angry again because I think that this
organization is full well, I think this organization is dumb.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
We'll talk about the organization, by the way, really cool
moment watching south Stewart's family and obviously his dad was
very emotional after that hit. I can't believe they gave
him Miguel Cairo's number unbelievable, Scott Schebler's number unbelievable. What
are we doing about that guy picking him up and
moving him from second base and the emotion he showed.
Emotion maybe something this team has been missing. South Stewart

(09:52):
brings to the table. Keep an eye on what the
Red Legs do. By the way, you want to talk
about a massive week ahead, two more against the Toronto
Blue Jays, and then over the weekend they welcome in
the new York Metropolitans. They're gonna get listen to this
Austin Abbott singer and Green in that Met series. Oh
boy at home, let's do it right now. Mets have

(10:13):
a four game lead in the wild Card. Now after that,
it's still rough because they got to go to San Diego.
They got to take on the Athletics and the Cardinals
on the road. There is only once this Toronto series ends.
There's only six more series on the year, so we'll
keep an eye on that. For the Cincinnati Reds, I
always have to give a special shout out Austin because
it's very rare. My kids are in the car at

(10:36):
this time of the day. Okay, but they are right
now because my boy Wilder and my girl who just
turned four on Sunday, Wesley had their first official day
of school today. Wow, first official day of school. They
just got picked up. It's over already, nine to noon,
go Lee, nine to noon. They really are like their dad.
So shout out part time Pikes. Yeah, I have a

(10:59):
three hour show, have a three hour school day, So
shout out to Wilder and Wesley who are in the
car listening right now, who just had their first day
of school. There you go, unbelievable. Shout out the wild
and West. Lee Corso Austin over the weekend called his
final college game day. You want to talk about going
out in style. Every team that coach Corso coached with

(11:22):
won over the weekend, and every pick that he gave
gave in the pick him segment one outright over the weekend.
Coach Corso goes out on top. The moments, the stories,
the build up, everything the day was was awesome for
Leeke Corso, and it does. I came across so many

(11:45):
memories of I was talking to mo about it over
the weekend, so many memories of like my college football
experience or even a college football fan, how much game
day just intertwined with everything and waiting for the pick
segment and then getting to U see and playing. I
remember being in the hotel of a game day, watching

(12:08):
game day, hoping that you see was gonna be one
of the games picked and seeing who they were gonna pick,
and then going from that to seeing game day a
couple of years ago, come to the University of Cincinnati
and Corso put on the Cincinnati Bearcat head gear. It's
just it's so much a part of what college football
is and what they've done and corso kind of ushered

(12:30):
this in. It was a lot of emotion and a
lot of memories you get from that, and watching his
final appearance on college game Day Saturday.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
I didn't expect to get emotional, but I couldn't help
but get a little misty eyed. Yeah, especially at the end.
And I was at a bachelor party over the weekend
and it kind of we're just kind of sitting around
talking as it was all happening, and thinking, you know,
the head gear has been a part of like our
whole life, and now it's just gonna be done after this,
Like it.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Does anyone ever put get on again? No?

Speaker 3 (13:01):
ESPN said they're not going to do it anymore. And
I think anybody who would do it, I think would
be U. Yeah, I think it would be foolish. Or
maybe maybe to do it somewhere down the line there's
like a tribute or whatever where they all do it. Maybe,
I don't know, but either way, like for that too,
you don't realize how much it's a part of your

(13:22):
life until it's going away.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
And I think that's how I felt Saturday watching it,
And I want to give kudos to Fox, who I
don't think deserves kudos for anything pretty much ever, especially
when it comes to their college football coverage.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
They gave way.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
They're like, we know nobody's here to watch us, and
they broadcast on their air Lee Corso's final pick because
Big Dune Kickoff doesn't exist without Lee correct and and
the way that they turned that into and turn college
game day into a thing. And I thought over the
course of the show, they did a good job because

(13:59):
they're like, this today is not a college football pregame show.
Today this is a thank you for the impact you've
had on our sport and on our on media and
on television and sending this guy out on top. And
you know, it wasn't great for coach because he's still
struggling to talk and they've they've stood by him after

(14:19):
that stroke that he had and then for him to
go and make those picks. Because if you watched the
last couple of years, he's on for a few segments,
he gives a few stats, makes a joke, does the headgear,
and that's it. But this this week, you know, to
see all the people kind of come and give him
some love. Ryan Day gives him the helmet with the

(14:40):
Buckeye leave the part they didn't show on TV. Ohio
State gifted him the original Brutus head, which is really cool,
and just all the other thing. It was just it
was seeing sections on throughout the day. Just a really
really cool finish to what was an unbelievable crist and
someone who honestly has done so much for the game

(15:01):
of college football and grown it. I mean you, every
Saturday morning, no matter how many times they've been there,
no matter where it's at, people show up early, they
camp out to be a part of college game day,
and that is in large part due to Lee Corso,
who leaves a lasting mark on the game. How much
of that show do you think changes now, because, like

(15:24):
I said, the last couple of years he hasn't been
a main part of the show.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
But still even when he wasn't, if I couldn't get
around everything, I made sure I watched the picks correct.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
So like that's is that going to be the biggest
difference that we feel?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Is that? Or how do they.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
How do you add some juice to the picks? Yeah,
without like being disrespectful to what Corso did? Yeah, I
guess you turned to McAfee to be that guy, the
not so fast my friend. You're not going to have that.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
It's hard. Yeah, I don't know, it is. I know
what they do. It's a lot. But again, thanks for
the lasting legacy that obviously the Corso left on the
game of football. Did you watch any of Big Noon Kickoff? No.
I watched some of the clips and and I didn't
even do that. I thought Portnoy was every bit of
what they wanted him to be. He's the he is the.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Uh Boycott, He's the VILLAINO.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
He's he's the he's the the guy that's going to
go against Urban every week and and they're gonna be
you know, rivals on the show. I don't know. Again,
I think based on social media, I think that's what
they're They're looking to get the most hits out of
is as people to watch the clips, and then you know,
the Barstool fan base. We know the Barstool fan base
is is enormous, and getting some of that fan base

(16:46):
to maybe turn to Big Noon Kickoff is is the goal.
You know.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
What I've kind of noticed that I don't know how
I feel, is in college football specifically, there seems to
be in the media a clear like guys aren't afraid
to root for their school, or like roote like it's
pretty obvious, like Saban wants Alabama to win and thinks

(17:12):
about Alabama and looks at it from the perspective of
an Alabama fan. McAfee a little bit. With West Virginia,
we know about Dez clearly. With Michigan now Herbstreet, I
don't think does that as much because he's actually on
the call these games. But like last night, did you
see the picks prior to TCU North Carolina. No, So

(17:35):
they had Teddy Bruski, who of course is gonna pick
Bill Belichick. They had Nick Saban who openly said Bill
Belichick's my friend. I'm not going to go against him.
I'm gonna pick North Carolina. And Pat McAfee takes North Carolina.
The only person who didn't take North Carolina was Desmond Howards,
and so I think he probably looked around and said,

(17:57):
I got a chance to get a game up on
all these guys, I'm gonna to make this pick. But
I just feel like that jumped off the screen at me.
This weekend, the amount of people that are openly rooting
for a particular score. Urban Meyer's the same way with
Ohio State and Florida to an extent as well.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, all more of what we'll talk about today. We'll
get into college football, We'll spend some time. We'll start
our three We'll get into some Cincinnati Reds to kick
off the third hour, Danaman and start hour number two
your talkbacks when we get back. It is the NFL
Week one right here across the nation. So let's talk
week one in the NFL. Let's talk some Cincinnati Bengals

(18:32):
as we get going. Since he three to sixty ESPN

Speaker 4 (18:39):
It's the first game of the season and the Bengals

Speaker 5 (19:04):
Max Up, Hey, it's my legger and join me this afternoon.
I'm doing the show from Oakley Greens in Oakley today,
starting at three ZHO five on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
This is Football in the NATI, brought to you by
Hey during Window Company on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official
home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, football in the NATI. Hey, Football in the NATI
is back.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
That just I gotta start putting some music underneath.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
That means it's real. Yeah, it means we're back. Thanks
for listening. Sincy three sixty ESBN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Football in the NATI means that there's NFL football happening
this week. For the Cincinnati Bengals, they travel to Cleveland
and right now Austin the spread is four and a half.

(19:56):
And I can't wrap my mind around a team in
Eveland who many predict. I believe they're over under his
four and a half on the wins four and a half. Okay,
so the line is four and a half. Cleveland's win
total is four and a half. If they don't go
over that, they will be the worst team in football.
And the line is only four and a half. I mean,

(20:18):
we're talking about a team in Cincinnati. Can they compete
for the AFC North. Can they compete for an AFC Championship?
Can they make it back to the Super Bowl? And
we're only laying four and a half on the road
against arguably one of the worst teams in the game.
Come on, surely the Bengals can cover this, right, I

(20:39):
don't know. Oh boy, oh boy, I don't know. I'm nervous.
They always start slow. They do, okay, but they did
different stuff in training camp this year. Okay, but the
defense don't even don't worry about the defense. They don't
need any.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Until you prove to me otherwise, I'm going to assume
they start slow.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
Right, I'm so nervous.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
They've not been great at that mistake by the lake
up there.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Now, they won last year, won last year in Cleveland
in October, and I believe they won the year before.
Or no, they lost the whole the season opener the
year before the weather.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Yeah. Let me let me just say this, if it's
if you're looking at the NFL slate as an NFL
fan and you're not as tied in maybe to the
history of the slow start, you look at this game
and you think about the talent that the Bengals have,
and you think about all the questions the Browns have.

(21:42):
If you're just an NFL fan, you would look at
that and say four and a half? What right?

Speaker 5 (21:47):
M h?

Speaker 2 (21:48):
I mean that is to me, I think it opened
at six and a half. I think what was the
number when when this game came out? So, like I
I'm I'm watching it and I have watched because I
partaken a lot of the gambling when it comes to sports.

(22:08):
I'm watching this as it plays out, and I can't
help but think the line is a little bit low.
No what happens in the game. I just hope they
win in the game. I'm not worried at the end
of the day if they cover or not. But if
I looked at this as just an NFL football fan, Austin,
I would think the talent that the Bengals have, that's
a low number for an NFL game. What's your biggest

(22:31):
concern for Sunday? Can they protect Joe Burrow? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Now, I also look at it and I know that
Kevin Stefanski is a really good coach. I believe that offensively,
I think he's a really good coach. And Joe Flacco
is a good enough quarterback to hurt you. He's just
good enough to hurt you. And I think the same
could be applied to last year's season opener with Jacoby Brissett,

(23:00):
Like he's just good enough to keep them in the game,
and that's what he did. Jacoby Brissett last year. Would
he would just evate a sack and he'd convert a
third and six and keep the drive alive and the
Patriots would go get three out of it or keep
burrowing the Bengals off the field. That's going to be
the game plan. We've talked about this. Flacco's good enough

(23:21):
to do that. He's better than Jacoby Brissette. They have
a good tight end and David and Joku, and historically
the Bengals struggle to cover tight ends, and in and
of itself, the secondary is a bit of a questionable sure,
and they haven't really looked like they were good against
the run in any of their reps in preseason. Again,

(23:42):
I know what they say, they're not really showing stuff,
bah blah blah blah blah whatever. But if you the
weaknesses of your defense plays directly into the hands of
the strength of the other offense, that can shorten the
game very quickly. If you're the Bengals, keep the ball
out of the hands of Joe Burrow and when the

(24:04):
same can be applied to you offensively, your biggest weakness
is protecting the quarterback, and their biggest strength is getting
after the quarterback. It has the recipe for an ugly game.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
Ever since Defanski has been in Cleveland and since Zach
has been here, it has not been a good matchup
in the way that these two rosters are constructed, the
Bengals and Browns. The Browns just are a difficult matchup
for Cincinnati, and.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
It feels like a super Bowl. Man not the super
Bowl mentality, but if you're Cleveland, this is a game
that means a ton on your schedule. You're not going
to be a playoff team, You're not competing for a
super Bowl. But you got a chance to throw a
wrench in Cincinnati already earlier in the year. All I'm saying,
if you can't go there and beat this team handily,
then we are. We're having a lot of hard conversations

(24:52):
last next week. What is your definition of handily more
than a touchdown? I don't think there's a be a
point in this game where it feels like the Bengals
are gonna lose. Okay, start fast, make them one dimensional.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
How many times have you been able to I mean
obviously twenty one and but like that doesn't happen often.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
I feel like minimally, But can a team get after
a forty year old quarterback? Be nice? Can you make
him move? Can you stop a team that you know
they're gonna have to run the ball to be balanced?
Can you? Can you put that out there. I'm just
having a hard time fathoming this game coming down to
the wire. And if it is, yes, you take the

(25:34):
win and you move on, but you also think, man it,
it shouldn't be that way. I mean, we'll we'll look
across Week one in the NFL, But some of the
other AFC contenders, Austin Chiefs have to open in Brazil
against the Chargers. The Ravens and the Bills open on
Sunday night football. Like you if you want to talk

(25:57):
about a layup and a lead in the other teams
that are viewed in the AFC as contenders, they open
with dog fights. They opened with title bounce and you
got to go beat the Browns.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
I almost wish that the Bengals were playing one of
those two teams on opening Day, just to go to
continue down that path of like start fast. You know,
Ryan Day talked about this with Ohio State and Texas.
He's like, we knew that we had to be ready
to go week number one because we don't have a

(26:33):
couple of games to get it under our belt and
fix those mistakes and introduce people to playing in front
of big crowds. We had to in our entire offseason
was predicated around be ready for the number one team
in the country Day one, and that mentality led to
I think a pretty good performance. I almost wish that

(26:56):
the Bengals had something. You know, they were facing Baltimore
Buffalo on the opening week of the game they're opening
week of this season. But I do think you can
apply a similar logic to the AFC North. I hope
one of my hopes for this season is that Zach
puts a bigger emphasis on the importance of the division.
And I think the emphasis has started because so many

(27:18):
players have talked about it, They've been drilled with it.
Everyone talks about the fast start and getting a division game,
but talking about it is different than acting upon it,
they have to act on it on Sunday. You get
a game in the division. By the time you play
on Sunday that one o'clock slate, then you can sit

(27:39):
back and there is a little pressure on the Ravens
not to lose a game early. They got to play
on the road at Buffalo. I don't think Pittsburgh has
a walk in the park because they're on the road
against the Jets with Aaron Glenn and a new staff there.
If you're looking at the AFC North the Bengals, the
Bengals have to win this game, and they should win
this game. I don't think you can ask for an

(28:00):
easier way to start the season. Yes, you're on the road,
I get it, but surely, surely this team if if
the vibe is different, and I think that's the biggest
thing that we get to find out Austin. Is the
vibe different and is the field different?

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Because all we heard about was we got to start faster,
we got to adjust the offseason, and I think the
drawback of that is if it's another slow start, then
what do you do going forward? Because it feels like
they have done everything. The practices were more physical, they
were on the field longer they played starters in preseason games.
If they still start slow, then where does the finger

(28:37):
get pointed? Yeah? But what else can you can you
can you fall back on? Yeah, and we can talk
about the individual matchups and as the week goes on,
we will their D line Bengals, oh line, the skill,
but we'll talk about all that. We'll break this game
down from every possible angle. But just looking at the
slate these other teams, there's no layups for the other team.

(28:58):
And I know the NFL is no, but you gotta
feel good about where you're at. The Bengals did vote
on captains for the season that was announced over the weekend.
Joe Burrow, Orlando Brown Junior, Ted Carris, Jamar Chase, Trey Hendrickson,
bj Hill, Logan Wilson are your Bengals captains for the
upcoming season.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
A bunch of first time captains. H they get to
put that sea on the chest. Carris Burrow and Orlando
Brown Junior are the only two only three that have
been captains previously. Hendrickson, Hill, Wilson Chase all first time captains.
By the way, Bengals record in Cleveland since or over
the last ten meetings in Cleveland. What's your guess? Last

(29:42):
ten last ten games in Cleveland? Five and five, four
and six. Oh, okay, four and six.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Uh, here's what we'll do. Let's break, let's come back.
Let's briefly look at the rest of the NFL schedule
for the upcoming weekend. Also dive in a little bit
of what happened to the college football rode over the weekend.
We got a lot to get to for college football.
We'll start doing that next on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station. Thanks to our friends at Skyline Chili.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
You've been listening to Football in the Natti on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
The Bengals are looking to beat the Bronze. Coverage begins
Sunday morning at nine am on your official home for
the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 7 (30:35):
Here's the three to two pitch to Marte swinging the
ground ball through the left side base hit one run home.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Friedo gets the wave straw.

Speaker 8 (30:44):
Thing the the pike, not at time in the Ruds
walking off.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Oh my goodness, can you believe that? Oh?

Speaker 8 (30:52):
Fuck goodness, I can't believe it unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
A crown ball signal.

Speaker 8 (30:59):
Through the left side of the drawn and infield scores two,
and the Reds get off the mat and beat the
Blue Jays five to four. Marte is lobbed out by
second and it spills out into left center field as
the Reds celebrate a walk off win.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
That is how it sounded yesterday when the Reds in
unbelievable fashion a race, a ninth inning collapse and win
it in the bottom of the ninth We'll finish hour
one with a little Reds conversation Austin, because I want
to give a little more time at the start of
hour three to college football, so we're not going to
try to fit that in. We'll get to college football
at the start of the third hour. We'll finish this
hour with the Reds looking Austin at Week one in

(31:47):
the NFL. From our conversation there, I think it would
be easy to just piggyback and say, Ravens Bills outside
of the Bengals plane, what's another game on the slate
that kind of stands out to you.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Oh, that's a great question, Tony Detroit, Green Bay. Micah Parsons.
The story of the weekend really as he gets traded
from Dallas to green Bay. And I was listening to
unsportsman Like earlier this morning and they said, does the
Micah Parsons trade now mean green Bay is Super Bowl

(32:21):
or bust? You know, we had the conversation last week
about or maybe two weeks ago now about how I
see Green Bay and whether or not they're one of
those top teams in the NFC. Now, acquiring a player
that can be as productive and as good as Micah
Parsons can be can really change a franchise sure, and

(32:42):
help some of their other deficiencies. The Packers secondary has
struggled at times. A good pass rush helps that a
good defense translates to a good offense and maybe helps
Jordan Love a little bit as well, which I think
is probably my biggest question still on green Bay. Yeah,
and then on top of that, on the other side,
Detroit two new coordinators.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
I mean this has become one of America's favorite teams,
I feel like because of Dan Campbell, because of Jared Goff,
because of the story of the Detroit Lions. And so
now when you become successful, you lose players and coaches
off of your team to other organizations. How does Dan

(33:26):
Campbell and Detroit handle that? And what exactly does the
NFC North look like after Week one?

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Yeah, I'm not going to take the It's easy to
say any of the primetime games Thursday night, Friday night,
Monday night, and I all think they have good points
to watch. Also, obviously, Ravens Bills, because those are two
title contenders outside of Lions Packers are what I'm interested.
It's also in that four to twenty five slate Stafford's
expected to play. Rams have legit Super Bowl aspirations in
the NFC, and I have no idea what to think

(33:53):
about the Texans. What is the line on that game?
Three and a half? No way three and a half.
The Rams are favored by three and a half. Yep,
I'm fascinated, fascinated by that. My first reaction is that
game is going to be a blook. That's what Yeah,
that's what I think. But I do think Houston's defense
is going to cause some problems for teams this year.

(34:13):
I'm so curious as to what to make of Houston's
offense and Stafford's health. I mean, all this goes away
if Stafford can't stay healthy. Have you seen the Stafford
died weeks ago thing? Yes, I'm not even gonna die though,
that was what I mean.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Matthew Stafford is alive and well. Yes, but just one
of my Stafford conspiracy theories lately has been that Matthew
Stafford died weeks ago and they've cloned his body and
that's why he hasn't been practicing clone.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
His throwing motion. We're gonna spend time tomorrow as well.
We're gonna start giving predictions, our predictions this week, Austin.
But how interesting is Pittsburgh and the Jets very just
just because of Aaron Rodgers and how he's gonna play.
The Good Morning Football folks made people in Cincinnati big
mad today They gave their AFC playoff predictions. All three

(35:08):
members of the cast have the Ravens winning the AFC
North and all three members have the Steelers as a
wild card team. No one from Good Morning Football is
picking the Bengals to be in the playoffs. We're gonna
spend time this week talking about why they could view
them that way, along with a preview for the Cincinnati
Bengals at ESPN dot Com did of every team, and

(35:31):
I think it's a legit conversation we have to have
going forward as it relates to this Bengals team this
season and what they need to do. We'll spend more
time on that tomorrow. We'll get the Reds when we
get back. Let's take one phone call to get us
going here. He's been gone for a while, but he's back. Now.
What's up, Mayso?

Speaker 9 (35:49):
What's going on?

Speaker 10 (35:50):
Boy?

Speaker 2 (35:50):
This is it on this beautiful two football weather, Mayso
football weather.

Speaker 9 (35:56):
It feels very good. Yeah, just like you own.

Speaker 11 (36:00):
My kids in the same boat started tough. Hey, I
think the parents shedded more teas than the kids did.

Speaker 9 (36:08):
Holy moly.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yeah, I heard, Maso. I heard you're only working nine
to noon today.

Speaker 9 (36:12):
Is that true?

Speaker 2 (36:14):
He dropped them off and picked them up today.

Speaker 9 (36:19):
I dropped them off, picked them up. They're in their
high chairs eating.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
I'm outside talking to you guys.

Speaker 9 (36:25):
Life by the balls. Yeah, I can say that. Anyway.
Let's get back to uh, let's get back to the list.

Speaker 12 (36:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (36:34):
I think all right, since we're running low on days,
I'll just double up. I'm gonna do teas and use
your world because because the US are pretty stupid, it's
getting kind of hard to figure out names, but I'll
start with the teas. All right, who would you rather be?
Tom Brady or Tom Cruise?

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Yeah, Cruises, tom Brady. Yeah it's Tom Brady. With all
due respect, I'm not interested in scientology. I'm also not
interested in doing my own stunts. I'm not a daredevil,
and Tom Cruise is that. I'm a sports guy. Man,
he's a legend. Now he's into the card game too. Ye,
Tom Cruise is kind of a weirdo.

Speaker 9 (37:18):
Here you I'm shocked.

Speaker 11 (37:20):
As usually you guys more towards the money side, Tom
Cruise is blowing him out of the water.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yeah, this is easy for me. This is Brady. He's
a goat, he's got Super Bowls.

Speaker 9 (37:30):
Well, you're a quarterback at heart.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
But Tom Brady, that's a that's a real life character.
Yeah you know he's Tom Cruise. Isn't really Maverick? Yeah
that's not really right?

Speaker 9 (37:41):
Right, Okay, let's see Yeah, Okay.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
His life is a lie. He lives a lie.

Speaker 9 (37:47):
Yeah, okay, I got it.

Speaker 11 (37:50):
All right, So that's hands down Tom Brady.

Speaker 9 (37:55):
All Right, this will be fun. Which is a better
fictional character? Uncle Remus or Uncle Fester?

Speaker 2 (38:03):
Do you know who those are Audi, No, I don't
I know Fester, Uncle Remus, uh, the guy from Sound
of Music back in the day.

Speaker 9 (38:14):
You'll have to do some research, and I.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
Throw in Uncle Rico, Uncle Rico, Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
I'll take Uncle phil from Fresh Prince.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Oh, okay, I like it.

Speaker 9 (38:25):
We're throwing in.

Speaker 13 (38:26):
I like it.

Speaker 9 (38:27):
You what's tough to get?

Speaker 2 (38:29):
So Uncle Remus? Uncle?

Speaker 9 (38:33):
Yeah, Uncle Remas?

Speaker 2 (38:34):
What about Grant?

Speaker 9 (38:37):
You give me another Uless?

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Probably a couple of them around.

Speaker 9 (38:42):
Well, yeah, I'm taking you.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
What about Undertaker? Oh?

Speaker 9 (38:46):
Undertaker? Yeah? But who who am I gonna?

Speaker 3 (38:50):
I guess, I guess. I'm not thinking of matching. I'm
just saying of anything with.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
The I mean, if it's if it's between Remus and
the Sound of Music or Fester and Adams family, I'll
go Uncle Fester. Yeah, okay, get but I'd have Rico
as a as a dark horse. Yeah, he could throw
a ball over the mountains.

Speaker 9 (39:06):
I'm not a Halloween guy, so I'm going with Uncle Rebas.
But I do like that.

Speaker 3 (39:10):
Maybe you should be me. So probably been worst thing
if you had a mask on.

Speaker 9 (39:16):
Damn got fired on a Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Man, unbelievable, Maso, Hey, enjoy the rest of the afternoon,
get some lunch. Yep, see you guys, Thank you, Mace,
Go check on your kids. Man, Yeah, unbelievable. That guy's
the life that he lives. Let's break. Let's finish the
hour with the Reds. A couple of minutes on them

one o'clock, and then I want to spend some time

From the X Time Cooling Weather Center teen thirty.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Welcome back since he three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks to Skyline Chile, we got Joe
Daniman coming up in just a few minutes. Before we
get to that, Austin, let's talk about what happened and
what transpired yesterday afternoon the Cincinnati Reds. It felt like
the straw that finally broke the back was going to

(41:40):
be delivered because the Reds, as we've seen a couple
times before, took a two to one lead into the
ninth inning before Emilio Pagan gave up three ninth inning runs.
All of a sudden, they trailed four to two, and
it felt like that was it. Got us here. Thanks
for delivering us, but the wheels have fallen off completely,

(42:02):
and in turn it probably ended up being one of
the most improbable wins of the season and maybe one
that can spark one last run at this for the
Cincinnati Reds, because they got three back in the ninth themselves. TJ.
Friedel hit a ground rule double that, unluckily Austin got
lodged in the fence. If not it was a tie game,

(42:23):
they moved the runner back to third.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
I still don't understand how if the player went and
retrieved the ball right, didn't put his hands up lately,
And yeah, how is that like that? I don't I mean,
I don't know. I don't know the rules that well,
but I feel like if you go and play the ball,
you choose to play correct.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
Then didn't throw his hands up, didn't hesitate. But it
ends up helping because Marte then hits a single. Both
runner TJ. Friedl and Matt McClain score Red's walk it off.
They win five to four. It was also not just
a win for the Reds, but it was Hunter Green
Day six and a third, five hits, one run, seven
strikeout base ball. Hunter Green was fantastic style. Stewart brought

(43:04):
some life to this team as well, one for three
on the day. The excitement, the energy, the passion. I
loved him leading in the game talking about positions and
where he plays. He so, I play in the batters box.
I mean, I think that's one of the best lines there.
I play the batters box so good. But it almost
didn't happen because Terry Francona. After the game, Austin talks

(43:25):
about how they were trying to get his attention. In
his first abat to move the runner over? Yeah, I
have Can we play the clip here? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (43:31):
This is so go on Terry Francona after the game enthusiasm, which.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
It's kind of hard not to.

Speaker 15 (43:39):
I still got a dirt on me from when he
slided home and it'll it'll, it'll slow down. Well, there
was a lot coming at him today. We were trying
to get his attention his first step back to move
the runner.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
He kind of went right through that one.

Speaker 15 (43:54):
But those things will will settle down.

Speaker 2 (43:57):
What what do we like?

Speaker 3 (44:00):
First of all, he a guy up here to move
runners over.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
And first of all he didn't need to say that either, right,
I mean, because essentially take it a little shot like that.
He's got to calm down a little bit. He missed
a sign. Why why would you have south Stewart on
this team to try to get a runner over when
this team has shown you all season long they can't
move the runners, They can't Lellye Dan la Cruz let
off an inning yesterday with a triple and didn't get in.

(44:25):
What are we trying to get a runner to third
for YEP play to score more runs? Why would you
even think about having south Stewart move a runner over
in that situation.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
And the part that is so frustrating is like they've
they've showed you this is who they are. Like that,
Terry Francona said the quiet part out loud. Everybody wanted
south Stewart up here from Triple A because he has
the ability to hit home runs. Yep, he can hit
for power, he can hit the ball in the gap.

(44:57):
And instead you get him up to the big leagues
and you try to take away what he does best
and say, just move the runner over. Yeah, well how
about I single and I score the run trying to
bunt or trying to slap it to second base? Like
why would you take the bat out of the hands

(45:18):
of your best player or one of your best hitters. That,
to me is is so backwards.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
Especially when this team is just and longing for any Like, yeah,
hasn't Homeward since July thirty first.

Speaker 3 (45:29):
Why is he here if you're not going to allow
him to do what he does best. That is such
an idiotic way to do things. And like, let's say,
here's the other thing that drives me nuts too. They
obviously try to just hit bass hits. That's their mentality.
They don't want to hit home run incredible, but they

(45:51):
will purposefully bunt runners over and sacrifice an out just
to try to bring the next guy up to get
a Yeah, like it's against it goes. Those two things
don't work together as far as I'm concerned. If you're
gonna if you're just trying to base hits and slap
the ball the other way and blah blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
Like I just don't get it.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
And maybe that provides a little bit of insight as
to what the hell has happened with Matt McLain.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
Yeah, and why? And I'll say that where's this team
at without noav A Marte dead?

Speaker 3 (46:23):
I mean, I still think they're dead, but they'd be dead.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
This guy, he comes up yesterday in the ninth after
striking out three times. There's been times in the past
where he probably strikes out again, but he's a different
type of lockdown man. He's hitting two eighty eight. I
think he's got a good spot in the lineup right now.
This team is completely out of it without of them
without him. Instead, they get two more against Toronto and
then this weekend Austin, they take on the Mets at home.

(46:46):
As things are happening today. They're playing the leaders in
the American League right now, the Toronto Blue Jays lead
the AL East. They've got these two and then the
Mets come to your building. It's a four game difference
right now. We'll see if that if the Mets maybe
slip up this week. I believe the metsri playing the
Tigers for two more this week, so maybe you give

(47:07):
yourself a chance. I'd like to see him win the
next two to make that series a little bit more interesting.
But still conversation's happening with the Reds as we turn
the page to September. That's still a good thing. And
that's something we'll talk more to Joe Daniman about when
we kick off our number two of Cincy three to
sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports.

Speaker 16 (47:27):
Station WCKY, Cincinnati, make us the number one pre set
on your car radio and on the free new and
improved iHeartRadio app. Free never sounded so good. ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (47:38):
Man summertime is here and that means.

Speaker 1 (47:40):
Misteve about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Cinci Shirts,
Cincy Shirts, All Cincy, all Day. This is ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Good afternoon, Welcome back our number two Cincy six thanks
to Cincy shirts. Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's get right to it. It's Tuesday.
You know what that means. Joe Daneman Fox nineteen is here.
He's ready to go. So let's not waste any more time.
Joey D what's going on?

Speaker 13 (48:15):
Man, Tony, make sure you ask Autin what I just
said to him right before we came on the air
at your next commercial break.

Speaker 3 (48:24):
My exact response was, oh my god, hold on, we're
back right right, Tody.

Speaker 2 (48:33):
Yes day was Friday. That was going to be the
first I know. We've got Reds, and we've got Bengals,
and we've got some college football. Before we even get
to it. Fox nineteen Game of the Week went to
Veterans Memorial Stateum, we don't have to talk about the
outcome of the game, but just your experience in reading Joe.

Speaker 13 (48:51):
So we show up and with the Fox nineteen Game
of the Week that comes with extra pregame attention, So
we have live shots in the news and the five
o'clock at the six o'clock hour, we show up at
five o'clock and the field is completely empty. So I say, okay,
we've got to find something interesting here for TV. So

(49:12):
we found the loyal tailgaters, oh yeah, who were out
there right around the parking lot getting ready for the
Redding Blue Devil football team. Spirit walk through the parking
lot of the stadium, and these folks brought it.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
I think they get there about noon. They listened to
since three sixty, They start part taking in pregame activities,
and then by five o'clock they're ready to go.

Speaker 13 (49:38):
The word I would use for the young people there
was unhinged.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
Unhinged.

Speaker 13 (49:44):
The kids were so much fun. And if you have teenagers,
if you're listening to this and you have teenagers, the
kids kept making me do the six to seven thing.
And I can't say some of the other things that
the kids wanted me to say yeah, because I didn't
know what they meant. And if I don't know what
they mean, they could have a connotation that could get
me in trouble.

Speaker 9 (50:04):
So I stopped.

Speaker 13 (50:06):
But man, the kids were great. We had fat heads,
we had kids. I had glitter on my arm. It
was amazing. The ding was rocking on Friday.

Speaker 2 (50:16):
Congrats, Yeah, now now, is this a thing with thoughts
that you can only win it once per year? Are
you going to throw them back on there? Let them
dominate another pole?

Speaker 13 (50:24):
Oh boys, Oh, let's run it back and I will
put them back on the ballot. If if you promised
to be there for the pregame show live shots in
the five and six o'clock out all right now?

Speaker 2 (50:42):
September twelfth, they played Deer Park. That's our guy, Willie
Cunningham squad. Maybe we can make something happen for that.

Speaker 13 (50:48):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
I think we've got a bit if reading. If they
make it back again this year, I will be there
as part of the pregame festivities.

Speaker 13 (50:58):
Damped sold, you have work go. They're back on the balance.

Speaker 2 (51:03):
Let go, let's go. How good does it feel, Joe
that we have felt like waited for an eternity and
here we are, We're back. The regular season in the
NFL gets underway this week. Where do you stand with
this Bengals team? Are there more questions that you still
have that need to be answered between now and Sunday?

Speaker 13 (51:23):
I don't think between now and Sunday. I think the
questions I have will be answered on Sunday and The
biggest question I have with this team I'm not sure
can be answered on Sunday because of what we expect
the Browns to be, especially on the offensive side of
the ball. My questions what the Bengals are. Is the
defense going to take the staff they have to take

(51:44):
this year for this team not just to get back
in the playoffs, but also be a team that can
win a game or two in the playoffs. And I'm
not sure we're going to know that until they faced
the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week two, who do have some
skill positioned players and do have a quarterback with some
talent who can effectively move the ball against the Bengals

(52:05):
if they're playing well. So that's my biggest question. I'm
not sure it's going to be answered on Sunday. But
I will say this, the idea that the Bengals have
a Browns problem, and I know it was discussed a
little bit in the first hour, this is kind of
a misnomer. Now in Cincinnati. I think this thing has
taken on a life of its own. The Bengals are

(52:27):
four and one in the last five games against the
Cleveland Browns and winning by an average of nearly two touchdowns,
and yeah, that's skewed a little bit by Cleveland coming
here to Cincinnati in Week eighteen a couple of years
ago and basically punting on the game because they were
going to the playoffs and didn't want to play their starters.
But in the last couple of years, outside of the

(52:48):
rainy opening day in Cleveland when Joe Burrow of the
offense were a mess, the Bengals have kind of figured
this game out against the Cleveland Browns, and I'm confident
are going to win the game. I think it might
be a little ugly, it might be a little clunky
because of how the Browns can kind of drag you
in the mud and make you play their game a

(53:08):
little bit. But if stars matter, the Bengals have more
star players, and I would argue four of the five
best players in this game. Certainly we could argue whether
Denzel Ward or Trey Hendrickson's in that top five, but
there's no doubt that three of the top four played
for Cincinnati. So if stars matter, guys, the Bengals have

(53:28):
more stars, and the stars need to earn it on
Sunday in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
That's why I was a little curious when I looked
at the lines and see that it's just a four
and a half point spread. I get it's on the road,
but this Cleveland team is projected to be the worst
or one of the worst teams in football. To put
it into perspective, you got the Ravens and the Bills
on Sunday Night Football. That's a one and a half
point favorite, so only three points separate that spread and

(53:53):
the Browns and the Bengals. I'm with you. The better
players are on the Cincinnati Bengals, and I know they've
had a problem starting slow. But I look at that
and then I see different publications, Good Morning Football. Everyone
on their panel, no one picked the Bengals to make
the playoffs this year. Where are you setting your expectations
going into Sunday for this season? For the Bengals.

Speaker 13 (54:14):
My expectations this year are I think what they were
last year. And I'll say it again. I guaranteed it
last year. And I had to put my foot in
my mouth because I said, of Joe Burrow played seventeen games,
I guarantee this team's makes the playoffs.

Speaker 9 (54:31):
Now.

Speaker 13 (54:31):
It took what felt like a generational run of bad
luck and bad breaks for this team not to make
the playoffs. You know and listen, the defense was what
the defense was, but also bad breaks including Evan McPherson
not performing like we expected him to perform, and that
was a difference maker in multiple games. But this to me,

(54:52):
and if you dive into the deep analytical stacks of
the NFL, when Joe Burrow, Mark Chase and t Higgins
are on the field together, you have the big three
on the field together, it is the best and most
efficient offense in the NFL. Period. You can pick the Eagles,
you can pick the Bills, you can pick the Ravens,

(55:13):
you can pick the Lions. Find the numbers you'll see
when the Bengals have those three on the field healthy,
they are the best offense in the NFL. Now to
your question about why is the Lions so low only
four and a half, Well, I think that's partly because
of what Cleveland's identity, what they want to be their strengths,

(55:35):
right as an organization, as they get after the quarterback
and they can play a physical style of offense, those
seem to be the two areas of the matchup that
can hit the Bengals at their weakest points, right, can
they protect Joe Burrow and can this run defense Even
if they weren't showing anything in the preseason, they weren't
winning at the point of attack on defense against the

(55:56):
run games. So that's Cleveland's game plan is they're going
to get after Joe and they're going to play ball
control offense and keep the ball away from Joe Burrow.
Then have Joe Flaco pop a big player two either
Jerry Judy or his tight end. That's the formula for
them to win. And that hits the Bengals. That probably
their two weakest points. And I think that's why the

(56:16):
line is where it is. But if the Bengals are
going to invest the kind of money they've invested in
the Big Three and Trey Hendrickson, you add it all up,
it's half billion dollars. This is what these guys are
paid to do, is to overcome that kind of matchup
and win a game when they are the better team.

(56:36):
They're the better team. Getting off to a one to
zero start will propel this team towards getting back to
the playoffs. And I'll say it again, Joe Burrow plays
every game this year. I would be absolutely floored that
this team doesn't make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (56:51):
They were so good offensively last year. Burrow did play
every game, Burrow had career numbers, Jamar Chase won the
triple Crown. Is there is there still an avenue in
your opinion that this offense can be better than what
it was last year? Because I can see that as
maybe a conversation point for people to say, they were
so good offensively last year, how can they be that

(57:11):
good again? And if they regress at all offensively as
the defense good enough, I can see that as an argument.
Do you see a path where this offense can even
be even more explosive, can be even more efficient than
what they were last year?

Speaker 13 (57:23):
I do. And the number all go to is five
five games that Tee Higgins didn't play in last year.
If he Higgins plays in seventeen games this year, that
the offense is going to be better and more efficient
this coming year. Now, that might not lead itself into
raw numbers. The forty three touchdown passes for Joe Burrow

(57:46):
or approaching five thousand yards or Jamar Chase winning a
triple Crown. I don't think the necessarily have to beat
the raw numbers. I don't think the Bengals want to
beat the wrong numbers because that means they're playing from behind,
and they're playing close games in the fourth quarter near
the end of the game, where those stats continue to
be accumulated. They would like some of those numbers to

(58:08):
go down. They would like Chase Brown to take on
more and for him to be leaned on in the
fourth quarter for this team to close games out. But
I think if you're looking just at what an offense
can be and what's the next level to this offense,
I think you're gonna look at Joe Burrow. The number
one stat he's going to point to this year is
his completion percentage, his efficiency, and I think that's what's

(58:30):
going to happen if this team gets a fully healthy
season from all three of their big three. So, yeah,
if you're going to ask me right now, are you
going to bet the over under of Joe Burrow and
Jamar Chase beating their raw numbers for last year, I'm
going to bet the under just because of the idea
that before Game one you can't predict that t Higgins

(58:51):
is going to miss games. I know he's missed five
each of the last two seasons, but you can't make
that prediction. And also you would think the numbers would
go down if this team is playing better complimentary teams
football and winning more games. So yeah, I think they
can be better offensively this year, but I think it
would be more in some of the hidden analytical numbers

(59:12):
of them being more efficient, even though last year they
were the most efficient team in the NFL when they
had those Big three on the field.

Speaker 3 (59:20):
How confident do you think the Bengals are in this
revamped running game that really builds specific parts of the
offense around Chase Brown.

Speaker 13 (59:31):
I think they're confident. They should be confident, and I
think it starts with the idea that Chase Brown is
confident in his role. And you think back to last
year and what this team was that they weren't ready
to give Chase Brown the keys of the car at
the start of the season. It took several weeks before
they saw him on the field in that role as

(59:55):
the lead guy, the number one guy, before they the
light bulb kind of w offense said okay, this is
our guy going forward, And as the season progressed, there
was a thought of Okay, they're gonna have to ease
up on Chase Brown's touches because he was getting twenty five,
twenty seven, twenty nine, over thirty touches in some of

(01:00:16):
these games in the second half of last season, and
Zach Burrow would say midweek almost every week that he
wanted to get some of the touches away from Chase Brown,
and then you get in the game and you can't
take him off the field. So with two new offensive linemen,
and we still don't know who one of those offensive
linemen will be, I think we have a guess on
who it will be, at least for Week one. I

(01:00:39):
think when you bring in two offensive linemen, the idea
that this team right now can lean a little bit
on Chase Brown to take some of the pressure off
of this team having to protect Joe Burrow because that's
the microscope of the offense. It always will be with
Joe Burrow as the quarterback, is canda offensive line protect him.
But I think the ready to turn this over full

(01:01:03):
time to Chase Brown, unleash him a bit, not only
in the run game, but in the short passing game,
and give him chances to make big plays. Because that
goes back to what Tony just asked before about how
can this offense be better in twenty twenty five Chase Brown,
if he gives the guy twenty twenty five touches, at

(01:01:23):
least two or three of those are going to be
plays that he's going to have an opportunity to spring
for a big game. So that, to me, it should
be where the confidence comes from is the fact that
they've found their guys. They're comfortable with their guy back there,
and now they can design their scheme around him. Listen,
it's a new it's a new offensive mine coach. It's

(01:01:44):
not just a new defensive coordinator and the new offensive
line coach comes to new philosophy and what this run
game is going to look like this year. I'm excited
to see it. I think he's he's poised to have
a huge year him being Chase Brown. If they get again,
if they get seventeen games out of him, he's going
to vault himself into the one of the top eight
to ten running backs, I think when you look at

(01:02:06):
the numbers this coming season. So to me, that's the
most exciting question to answer starting Sunday is what does
this run game look like now? With Chase Brown? As
everybody knowing he is the guy. In twenty twenty five, as.

Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
You were talking, the Bengals released their depth chart and
it features Lucas Patrick as the starting right guard, Dalton
Reisner behind him. What's your immediate reaction to that? And
do you think we see both of them on Sunday.

Speaker 13 (01:02:35):
That's a good question. My immediate reaction would be not
surprised because of what I saw Monday at practice. That's
the way they were lining up. That's the way they
were game not they weren't really in game plan, but
they were walking through on Monday. With Lucas Patrick, I mean,
he's been in the building for a week. So even

(01:02:56):
though he's a veteran guy, and Zach Taylor says he
understands the playbook and the concepts quickly, it's going to
take time for him to feel like he's ready to
be a starter. Yeah, I mean, is there a chance
he comes in? Sure? If Lucas Patrick performs like he
did in the preseason, at some point you turn to

(01:03:17):
the bench and say, get me somebody better. And Dalton
Reiser was brought in for a reason. I fully anticipate
Dalton Reisner will will be a starter sooner rather than later.
So if he's if he's in, he being Lucas Patrick
is struggling in Week one, in the first half against Cleveland,

(01:03:37):
and it's a dead anchor on what the offensive line
is trying to accomplish. Haven't ready, haven't ready to go
put him in, see what he's got. But I do
think it won't take long for Dalton Reisner to overtake
that spot. I think that's what they want, and they
want that to happen as quick as possible.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
DJ Turner for that first official depth trot listed as
corner number two, Joseph Osig listed as a starter over
Shamar Stewart and Charlie Jones, and Mitchell Tinsley listed as
the first two backup wide receivers. For what It's worth
for the first official depth chart for the Cincinnati Bengals
this upcoming season, I would be remiss Joe not to
switch and ask you a little bit this Reds team.

(01:04:16):
As we now turn the page to September, I feel
like we had the same conversation at the start of August.
Can the Reds maintain? Can the Reds stay in the hunt?
They have found a way when at times it feels
like it was going to fall apart in yesterday in
the ninth inning, and it certainly felt like that. But
as you go into September, two big ones against Toronto,
then you get the Mets in your building, your four
games back, how much of a pulse are you giving

(01:04:38):
the Red still as you get into September.

Speaker 13 (01:04:41):
Well, this is it. This is the moment that we
were hoping they would push forward, that they would get
to these first ten days in September with a heartbeat,
with a pulse, and with a shot to do this thing.
And what they did yesterday, not only bringing South Stewart
up and adding that kind of energy to the room,
but the way they won yesterday, you wonder if that

(01:05:05):
can be some kind of momentum springboard for them to
take it through the rest of the week. And to me,
it was always, you know they talk about in baseball,
just stay in slam range, just give yourself a chance.
Right in the ninth inning, if you're within slam range,
you got a chance. If you're within range here of
catching the Mets before you get to that series. And

(01:05:26):
right now it feels like they will be unless they
lose the next two and the Mets win the next
two and they're suddenly down six games. But if they
come into this series against the Mets down three games
or four games, even five games, you give yourself a
real shot against New York with a couple of your
horses going on the mount against the Mets. And the

(01:05:47):
Mets pitching staff right now seems to be a bit
of a mess there. Their bullpen has been a mess
all season outside of their their closer. But they're hitting,
and it's going to be such a dichotomy of teams,
one team that hits like crazy, one team that pitches
like crazy in this huge series on a weekend in Cincinnati,

(01:06:07):
where all of our tension is going to be trying
to be forced to the Bengals season opener in Cleveland,
but then we have this massive series here in Cincinnati.
But I pushed all summer long for them to get
to these ten days in September against the first place
Blue Jays, against the Mets and then going on the
road to San Diego as the ten days where we

(01:06:29):
would find out if this team is going to be
a factor in the finals. Three weeks, they've got one down,
They've got eight games left, nine days, and this ten
day stretch fun one yesterday, but they have to follow
it up and keep themselves in range of the Mets
before that series.

Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
Before we let you go this afternoon, Joe, I didn't
get to catch up after Thursday night, obviously the Thursday
night game for the Cincinnati Bearcats. What was one of
your biggest takeaways watching what the Bearcats did on the
field and obviously unable to get a win, But but
did they show you anything that you're hanging your hat
on going forward with this team?

Speaker 13 (01:07:07):
Twenty five pass attempts, sixty nine passing.

Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Yards, but they got those new receivers.

Speaker 13 (01:07:16):
It's simply not good enough. And the narrative before the
game was and you see do something to stay relevant
in the sports conversation in Cincinnati that's jam packed right now.
It's the start of the NFL season. The Reds are
in a playoff chase FC Cincinnati's near the top high
school football matters here. How can this team stay relevant

(01:07:41):
in a city that has so many options for people
to turn their attention to and talk about. Because on Saturday, yeah,
we'll watch the games. I mean, it's it's college football Saturday.
But right now, you know, you see has has two
weeks where they play teams, and I know Bulling Green,
Eddie George. They're not favored by forty points. It's only

(01:08:03):
a twenty one point game. But but these are going
to be games that won't have the attention of the
casual fan until they get into Big twelve play. But
this is if Brendan Soarsby comes back and he's rated
as a top twenty quarterback and Scott Saderfield is an
offensive minded coach. Twenty five pass attempts sixty nine yards.

(01:08:27):
It's not good enough. It has to be better, and
it has to start immediately.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Ohio State also won their football game, but there was
a photo that was making rounds that looked as if
Ryan Day may have had his nipple pierced. I don't
know if this was photoshopped, if there was an actual
nipple piercing. Is there any type of bet you could
make from a sports standpoint that would push you to
get your nipple pierced going forward? Or do you already
Do you already.

Speaker 13 (01:08:52):
Have your piers No? I did when I was a kid,
but not anymore. It was a bad experience. I will
tell you that I have boots on the ground in
Columbus and Ryan Day spoke today and I sent a
text my friend who works at a TV station in Columbus,
and they said, young man, did anybody ask right day

(01:09:15):
about the picture? And his answer was two letters? And oh.

Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
I saw a couple of people say it was one
of those Yeah, it was one of those things where
it's like, hey, coach, if we win the national championship,
you gotta and and maybe he's just a man of
his word.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Now what can we get you to do it?

Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Let me hold on, Joe, let me run this by you,
because I received a text in my group chat with
Tony and Moe over the weekend that said, if Ohio
State goes back to back Austin, will you get your
nipple pierced? And I said, I said, I need to
think about that a little bit, just for you, Joe,
being my friend and my mentor here, how would you

(01:09:57):
advise me with an offer like that from Tony and Mo?

Speaker 13 (01:10:02):
I would say this, I need more details, okay, because
it's one thing to get it pierced, it's another thing
to maintain the piers. Is it one thing where I
have to get it done and then we're done, or
is it one thing where I have to get it done,
and then I have to continue to wear the actual

(01:10:23):
I don't know is it? Is it a ring? What
do you call that bar that goes?

Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
I believe it's called a bar.

Speaker 13 (01:10:29):
I would be more details on what how long you
have to wear?

Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
What do you think that nimple?

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
What do you think would be fair for them to
have to do if Ohio State doesn't win?

Speaker 17 (01:10:42):
That's it?

Speaker 13 (01:10:43):
Yeah, it can't be just a one way street here
where you know, you have to do something if that happens.

Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
So, I don't know, se makes a college football playoff,
I'll do it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
Yeah, well that's yeah, yeah, okay, I think you both
should have to get your ears pierced and we're matching
ear rings for a month.

Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
While would go I would definitely go dangling.

Speaker 13 (01:11:06):
Didn't you have your ears pierced at one point?

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
No, you're thinking of the wrong person, you get it? No, no, no,
I had the hair dyed for a while. I went
I went all blog for a while.

Speaker 13 (01:11:17):
But yeah, I can't remember you having kind of like
a boy band look.

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
A little bit frosted the tips here.

Speaker 13 (01:11:24):
I figured you had the ear ring, so that that's
my bad, Tony.

Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
What is what's coming up? This week on Fox nineteen
that folks should be ready.

Speaker 13 (01:11:32):
For big week is the one nine. Okay, you're ready. Shoot,

Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
You're the man.

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
Thanks Joe, thanks so much more, hippel questions I have,
Thanks many.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
Joe Daneman. H Your talkbacks are next on ESPN fifteen

Speaker 18 (01:12:38):
Yeah all right, bo let me hear you good loud,

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
Well, listen to.

Speaker 19 (01:12:51):

bud of Sprad Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
We hope those other two divert come back. It's rout
totally all the thing comes show. We got hag right, Hello.

Speaker 19 (01:13:22):
The stars over talk back, Shine, Radswell.

Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
Rads Well, Reds of one two in a row after
losing five in a row far back in the wild card,
get hot. Let's get to our time. Jeff from Edgewood, Jeff.

Speaker 7 (01:13:40):
Come on, Jeffrey, thank you Reds for entertaining us this
entire summer.

Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
But the cool is in the air. Come on the
fall I believe is Yeah, sure, it's time for some
Are you ready for the football?

Speaker 9 (01:13:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 20 (01:13:58):
Baby, I've been ready since February.

Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
Oh man, Bengels win it all? Okay, Jeff, thank you? Okay?
Happy too?

Speaker 21 (01:14:09):
Is everybody hope you all had a fantastic Labor Day weekend?

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
And what a weekend it was.

Speaker 21 (01:14:14):
The Bengals made a move my Alabama Crimson Tide guy Bear,
but guys stood on badness against the Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
And I don't know what's popping.

Speaker 21 (01:14:25):
More Matt Patricia's defense against Arch Manning or that nipple
ring popping out of Ryan Day's Paulo.

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Did he say my Alabama Crimson time, Alabama Crimson goodness,
I never know. I know enough about Kevin to know
he's got ties to Lexington, Man, and to choose another
SEC school feels wrong. Man, he might want to choose
another one to going on with Kevin.

Speaker 22 (01:14:49):
Happy Monday on a Tuesday, Guys from Runs Observations, Bearcats
might want to go with the Belly Reid option. Out
of the shotgun h the arch Manning thing, that hype
train way overrated, incredible, Ohio State's offense not overrated. Noel
v Marte, good god man, you're the sixth Noel, You're

(01:15:12):
not the first. Marque. That was Marque Brenneman and Belichip
looks like he's under the hypnotic spell of a scant gum.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
Oh, Marte, that's fantastic. Hello, Hello, Tony, this is.

Speaker 23 (01:15:30):
I'm quite confused when I looked at the schedule for uh,
you see Clifton it's a home game, but it turns
out they played the game in Kansas City, Missouri.

Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Now that's confusing.

Speaker 23 (01:15:49):
Too, isn't it Kansas City and Kansas Anyway? Why can
you explain why?

Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
I unfortunately cannot. It's because Cincinnati took the check. Come on, Tony,
that's a really nice It seems to me that at
times the Bearcats value money more than winning. Take the
money and run, Tony.

Speaker 24 (01:16:08):
That's a really nice picture of you and the Kelsey
brothers looking good. Here's your daily reminder that if the
Bengals lose Week one at Cleveland, everyone gets fired, starting
with Zach Taylor. Keep the offensive coordinator, though start bench,
cut Bengals offensive line, Bengals defense, old guys at the gym,

(01:16:33):
in the locker room. But Nick and having a conversation,
what is that.

Speaker 3 (01:16:37):
I'm going to cut the old guys. Yep, they're out.
I'm gonna bench the Bengals defense. I'm gonna start the
offensive line. I'll swap the defense in the old line.
But guys in the gym are cut. Also, he always
talks about how he likes the Bengals offensive coordinator, but
he doesn't know.

Speaker 6 (01:16:53):
Hello, this is former President Ronald Reagan with a college
football edition.

Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
Arch Manning Alabama.

Speaker 25 (01:17:03):
Oh, Bill Belichick.

Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
I'm gonna go Belichick Manning, Bama. I still believe in Belichick. Okay,
so I'll go.

Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
Bama. Belichick Manning.

Speaker 26 (01:17:18):
It's the Lord on a Tuesday about all these new.

Speaker 24 (01:17:22):
Free agentcy So, what do you think the chances of
us signing Dabrill Peppers are?

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
Oh? I hope not.

Speaker 3 (01:17:30):
Oh, let me tell you somethingbout Jabil Peper Michigan manks.

Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
I know he's of high value stinks. I know he's
a guy that And I've got two thoughts today. Am
I alone in not liking Pat McAfee. I mean, I'm
Tony Pike size maybe a little bigger.

Speaker 17 (01:17:46):
And now you have a douchey little kicker and his
douchey little sidekick with a guideliner acting like tough guys.
Is just and Austin Tony Austin? What we saw out
of Brendan soresb Is he really that bad? Or is
that the environment? First game? Jitters? What's going on with
this kid?

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
Well that's what Week two is for. We get to
find out against Bowling Grduddy.

Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
It's gonna be tougher against BG than it was against Nebraska.

Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
I can promise you that if that's the case, it's
gonna be a long, long college football year.

Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
I have I have moments with McAfee. It just depends
on what side of the bed I wake up on.
Sometimes I'm like he's really entertaining and he's really funny.

Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
And I works his tailoff.

Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
Man works for college game day, and then there's other
times it's like, dude, just give it a rest for
a second.

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Read the room. I will not quite He works his
tail off. He does multiple different ventures. He does.

Speaker 3 (01:18:39):
Like I was surprised to see him at North Carolina
last year, and I thought because that's a different venue,
he's not in front of a bunch of college kids,
he's not playing to a crowd. I thought he was
really good and even asked Dick Saban some good questions.
So like in that moment, I was like, yes, that
can That's more of what I want out of Pat.
But I know other people choose to view him and

(01:19:00):
tune into him for a different reason.

Speaker 27 (01:19:04):
Yeah, you would think the Bengals can handled four and
a half at Cleveland, but it's we always start slow.
Like you said, Cleveland gets psyched up to play us
good pass rush. We just need to escape. With the
W shout out to lead Corso, lovely Corso. And with
the gambling perspective, I think Bowling Green plus twenty one

(01:19:27):
and a half sounds pretty good.

Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
You might want to put the mortgage on killing. Yeah,
that's disgusting. Emilio Pagan should be immediately demoted. He should
be the first guy out of the bullpen.

Speaker 28 (01:19:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 25 (01:19:42):
Good win by the Reds yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
Yeah, Pegan cannot.

Speaker 13 (01:19:46):
Touch the ball in the anymore.

Speaker 25 (01:19:48):
I think I has saves against a bunch of week
teams with three run leagues and he can't.

Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
He can't touch high.

Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
You might be wondering why did Austin Ran bring up
Amelio Pagon. It was because I had read that talkback
in my head. It was reacting to it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Something that was just sticking in your crawl.

Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
I was like, man, okay, prior to me actually playing
the talkbacks, apologies.

Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Is back, Let's go. Fantasy football is back.

Speaker 14 (01:20:24):
Everybody, good luck this year, and a friendly reminder. Nobody,
and I mean nobody gives a damn about your fantasy
football team.

Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Good luck and hood egg.

Speaker 4 (01:20:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:20:38):
I don't understand how that narrative is constantly pushed that
nobody cares about your fantasy football team, and yet people
still well bloviate about their fantasy football team they live
on every appens all the time. Now Ton, you and
I were in a fantasy league together for the last
several years.

Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
Yeah you bounced. Why Uh, I found myself on Sundays
not even enjoying the fantasy aspect of it because I
was playing in like four leagues and then I was
doing like a daily or a weekly fantasy. Like I'm
just gonna cut down. I'm doing a family league. I'm
gonna cut down on the fantasy leagues this year and
just try to enjoy the games and more. I've been

(01:21:21):
to seven Reds games this year.

Speaker 29 (01:21:23):
Okay, the Reds are seven and oh oh my goodness,
I was at both games. Was at both games, but
gone blew the game in the ninth and they came
back and won. Starting to think I need to call
off work to start it Tony in some Reds games,
maybe they'll.

Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Make the playoffs.

Speaker 29 (01:21:39):
Well, if you need any anyways, go Reds, Go Lancers.

Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
Oh Lancers real deep?

Speaker 13 (01:21:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
If you need any advice, just ring Maso in the ville.
He could talk to you about getting out of work. Yeah,
no kidding. That guy didn't have a job.

Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
He was on vacation last year working today you're talking
about the Skyline Chili shuffle. I was already this is
how my mind works over the weekend thinking about a
tweet for next opening day, oh like and the Skyline
Chili show, Like I put that in the back. Do
they need to make that hard I put that in
the folder for twenty twenty six?

Speaker 2 (01:22:11):
Do they need to make that harder?

Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Yeah, they do, especially when you see somebody miss one,
Especially when you've seen the NAPA Auto Parts cap shuffle
at Truest Park and your eyes go crossed after you're
finished watching it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Yes, that's what I want fellas Ryan V.

Speaker 30 (01:22:25):
Yellow Springs love seeing Noelvie Marte leader on this team,
bring this dub home, keep this season alive. Last night
college football last week. You know me, Buckeye fan was
kind of new fresh start this year, was excited to
cheer on the Bearcats, kind of standing shoulder to shoulder
with us, buck eyes ready to be at the front
of the sport pretty close.

Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
But didn't happen anyway.

Speaker 30 (01:22:48):
Ohio State gets the dub at home against the number
one team in the country. All anybody wants to talk
about is how bad Archie is not.

Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
Ryan V doubledp.

Speaker 30 (01:22:57):
I, as an Ohio State fan, have no I've seen
that aggressive of a defensive game plan ever. And Matt
Patricia my guess would be probably a one year higher
at Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
He'll be back in the league next year.

Speaker 30 (01:23:10):
But if we're not just doing four down linemen like
Larry Johnson has wanted to do for the last couple
of decades, and we're actually building game plans, play to
play to make it hell on the opposing offense, Watch out, folks,
Buck guys are back. Also sunny styles, ar bel rees elite.

Speaker 2 (01:23:26):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:23:27):
Yeah, Larry Johnson is not a popular cat in Columbus.

Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
We're gonna talk some college football here to kick off
the third hour.

Speaker 3 (01:23:34):
I'm still teased for that segment. I'm not sold on
Matt Patricia.

Speaker 31 (01:23:40):
Still repping my city out here, Tony. What up, body man?
The Red stole that game yesterday. Pretty impressive. Gotta win
the series, and you better hope the Mets lose day series.
If that happens, then we're talking Bengals, real talk. Go
up to Cleveland to smack them clowns. No excuses A
four point Nah, it's more like seven. Were blowing that

(01:24:00):
team out, Tony. I feel you, brouh We're blowing that
team out. Everybody picking Baltimore and Pittsburgh over Cincinnati. They
smoking at you know what, it's our season.

Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
Why here you I hear you?

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
Come on, Ronnie, ron do you want to hear a
crazy Red stat Please always love statistics. Hold on, I
guess see if I can find it. I saved it earlier,
but now here it is. This is from Joel Luckham
to a right Joel. The Reds win Sunday was their
first win this season, win trailing by multiple runs in
the ninth inning or later. They had been oho to

(01:24:34):
forty nine prior to that win. I believe that their
last such win came on August twenty ninth, twenty twenty four,
when the A's scored three in the top of the
ninth and the Reds scored three in the bottom of
the ninth. About that, it's almost a year to the day.

Speaker 25 (01:24:50):
How about that good afternoon fellas? Yeah, tough loss for
the Bearcats on Thursday. I didn't leave a talk back
on Friday hours or to hurt, but thankfully I have
to watch Archie Swordsby laying up against Julian Sworsby on
Saturday's running it back.

Speaker 20 (01:25:07):
Oh my god, Hey, Tony A Austin, Steve down here
in Parkland, Florida. You know Steve just listening. Sounds crazy
at a reading football game. Sounds like you got some
die hard fans show up before the game, get crazy.
I think you gotta call him the Dinga Lings. Oh
there you go. I like that back again for a

(01:25:28):
double up. Oh man, that lead off triple I swear.
I mean they you want to call yourself a playoff team,
you have to get their runner across. Situational hitting is
a problem for Reds. Just embarrassing. Like I said, steal
the series and then we'll take it from there. You
see football now, dude, you ain't off the hook. Coach
Scott whoever you want to call him, I can get.

Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
His name right.

Speaker 31 (01:25:49):
Even if you do beat Bowling Green or whatever, we
already know you can't do this against the big dogs.

Speaker 13 (01:25:53):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:25:54):
That's the hot. I make sure stay hot. Coach scant
Ronnie ron.

Speaker 32 (01:25:59):
Hey, audi inte, this is Gina. I have two comments.
One reads one Bengals. When they reversed that call last night,
I was like, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
We're done. We're gonna lose. That's our luck.

Speaker 32 (01:26:10):
And then when they came back and won that game,
I was like, maybe this could be the time that
kicks off and gets the playoffs, and then with the Bengals.
I watched the listen to the program this morning, but
you know what, AI picked the Bengals, and I think
I liked us being the underdog.

Speaker 2 (01:26:27):
So who did Allen iverson on the show? The Truth?

Speaker 33 (01:26:30):
One of my least favorite things about being answer and
follow up the Bengals fans is the overreaction and us
jumping the gun on every time there's a free agent
available or if there's a cap casualty and the Bengals
should sign him, The Bengals should sign.

Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
This guy that guy.

Speaker 33 (01:26:47):
I think it's very overdone. However, having said that, who
would you rather have on the Bengals?

Speaker 26 (01:26:53):
Justin Simmons or Jabriel Peppers?

Speaker 33 (01:26:55):
I don't think either is very realistic at this point,
But who would you pick given the choice?

Speaker 34 (01:27:03):
Yeah, I'm hearing what this last guy is saying about
that they should make the playoffs if Borrow plays all
but would anybody be surprised if they didn't?

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
I wasn't surprised they didn't make the playoffs.

Speaker 34 (01:27:13):
I mean, we saw this same story last year and
they're pretty much running it back this year.

Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Why would we be surprised.

Speaker 34 (01:27:20):
There's a reason why a lot of people are out
on them because they they've invested so much money in
a quarterback in two receivers. I mean, receivers is not
as important as what the Bengals are trying to act like.

Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
It is.

Speaker 10 (01:27:33):
Sure, Hi, like Tony and Austin, I hope you had
a great weekend. Man, what a fast summer, you know what.
I think the Reds are cooked. That's okay. I'm so
ready for the Bengals, so ready, been ready since they
finished their last game last year. So Lordie Laurie, I

(01:27:54):
hope we have a great season, so looking forward to it.
Let's go, all right, you guys have a great day.

Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
He's standing in an intersector's standing outside for that.

Speaker 33 (01:28:07):
Whether or not the Bengals due sign one of those safeties,
I do want to give them flowers because they got
the job done this offseason.

Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
Talked about Trey.

Speaker 33 (01:28:17):
Forever and Shamar Stewart. They're signed, picked up fant Riisner,
Panel and all those guys in the early window of
free agency. So I am happy with how things have gone.
Bengals front office has done nicely.

Speaker 35 (01:28:31):
Okay, Okay, Austin, Tony, Ryan, I'm not Milford, Hey, Joe,
that Zach Burrow combination. That'd be a crazy quarterback owner
if he'd be any good. Great walk off of the
Reds yesterday. It's cool to have south Stewart up.

Speaker 25 (01:28:49):
Man.

Speaker 35 (01:28:49):
He brings some energy to that team one game at
a time.

Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
Guys, come on, Reds. I just think that's the most
peaceful walk. Yeah, Joe did accidentally say Zach Burrow. He did.

Speaker 28 (01:29:02):
What a weekend. The Reds are starting to show some life.
Key Brian Hayes is looking like a great trade and
looks like he could be a pretty good option for.

Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
Us moving forward.

Speaker 28 (01:29:14):
Hunter Green owned yesterday that first inning and that double
play was the biggest change in the manum class did
not leave. What is your take on Pallas check and Nancy?

Speaker 2 (01:29:27):
It's hard to watch, hard to watch, man, there are
so many takes. We're gonna do a college football segment
at the start of hour three and I'll give my Yeah,
we're gonna get a lot into that. We're done, all right.
We got to get a break in. That was fantastic.
Thank you so much for the talkbacks. We'll finish up
our number two when we get back Sincy three sixty

Driven Now your host Moegger.

Speaker 5 (01:30:07):
Season openers have not been kind to the Bengals in
recent years. Cincinnati has lost the first game of the
season each of the last three years. Can they finally
start the season on the right foot well for the
second time in three years? The Bengals will open the
season in Cleveland, where the Bengals beat the Browns last October.
In that game, Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered an injury,

(01:30:27):
sending the Browns into another search for a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
Cleveland remade its quarterback room.

Speaker 5 (01:30:32):
This offseason, drafting two of them, including Shadora Sanders, who
will be behind center for the Browns and the opener.
And regardless of which quarterback they face, can the Bengals
start the season by proving that their defense will be
dramatically better than last season? And can they start the
year with a win for the first time since twenty
twenty one? It will be the Bengals and Browns to
start the season in Cleveland on Sunday, September seventh.

Speaker 36 (01:30:55):
Moe has more on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home
of the Beggings.

Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
Team of the season, and the Bengals are looking to
start with a winning record. To do it, they have

This is Football in the NATI, brought you in part
by Bud Light and by Oakley Greens on ESPN fifteen thirty,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
Football in the nine. He's going to wrap up our
number two here very simply put Austin, We'll get to
college football in our three. What team, in your opinion
is under the most pressure going into this NFL season.
We've kind of talked about the Super Bowl or bust
conversation as it pertains to a few different teams, and
I put pressure maybe a little bit differently, because I

(01:32:01):
think there's two levels to it. I think there are
pressures going into a season where you're predicted to win
a championship, and I think for Buffalo and Baltimore, two
teams that have been close but right now the betting
favorites to make it out of the AFC. I think
there's an immense amount of pressure on the two teams
that open up against each other on Sunday Night football
in Buffalo and the Baltimore Ravens. But I think there's

(01:32:25):
a different amount of pressure going into the season on
a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco
forty nine Ers. I mean, you think about the forty
nine Ers, super Bowl window was open and it feels
like it's shutting a little bit. What are the Niners
gonna be? And for Pittsburgh, you go all in on
Aaron Rodgers, you put yourself out there, you revamp the roster,

(01:32:46):
you got a strong defense. I think they're under an
immense amount of pressure. Is there anyone else that stands
at to you from an NFL level of teams that
are under a ton of pressure.

Speaker 3 (01:32:56):
Cincinnati I think is under national pressure.

Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
Yeah, pressure to do what like make the playoffs or
make a legit run. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
I mean they were the number one story all off season. Yeah,
and they got all this stuff done then nobody thought
they would get done. Okay, now let's see how you
can do. So to me, Cincinnati is definitely up there.
I agree with you on Pittsburgh. I think there's just
a different level of pressure once you've actually got in
a quarterback and they've gotten some good defenders, and they
got a legit weapon and DK Metcalf. They just signed

(01:33:26):
Jalen Warren to an extension. So Pittsburgh, I think there's
a lot of pressure. I think the Giants have a
lot of pressure, Bryan dave Ball, Joe Shane, like they've
got to be able to prove that their plan is
starting to work. Just drafted a quarterback in Jackson Dark
who's going to be the number two behind Russell Wilson.
That division is not going to be easy, but Dallas

(01:33:47):
is going to be down, so maybe they have a
chance to move a little bit. And then, uh, Buffalo,
for all the reasons you mentioned it, just it feels
like it's Super Bowl or busts for that.

Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Can I ask you one more team because of a
move they made. What about the green Bay Packers.

Speaker 3 (01:34:02):
I don't know if it's immediate pressure right now because
in their division, Chicago is a question mark with Ben
Johnson and kaylab Williams. Minnesota is a question mark with
JJ McCarthy. Detroit a question mark with all the coordinators
in the turnover that they've had. So it doesn't feel

(01:34:22):
like green Bay is still the favorite though. I still
think Detroit's probably the favorite in that division. I could
be wrong, you'd check the numbers on that. I feel
like green Bay is. I think their fans are just happy, like,
oh crap, we actually did something.

Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
Let's see if.

Speaker 3 (01:34:37):
They tried to the receiver in round one this year, right,
So it's like, this is the stuff they've been waiting for.
Let's see if it works. I don't know that I
would say there's pressure in green Bay though.

Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
Yeah, that's fair. Let's take a break, let's come back.
We've got college football, We've got some phone calls. I
got Matt McEwan with Red Brick. Legacy is gonna stop
by a lot going on in hour three, and then
we'll finish up by checking in with Mowagan, who's at
openly Greens today right here on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati

Here we go, Welcome in our number three, the final
hour of the Tuesday edition here since E three to sixty.
Thanks to Penn Station. Thank you for listening on ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. I want to get to
college football. I wanted to give us some time to
dive into the college football weekend. Before we do that,
we'll take one phone call here. John is calling in.
What's up John?

Speaker 9 (01:35:57):
Good afternoon, fellos, All ya, good.

Speaker 2 (01:35:59):
Afternoon, Oh great John.

Speaker 13 (01:36:02):
We're hanging in absolutely well.

Speaker 37 (01:36:03):
First of all, as your unofficial Boston correspondent and Joe
Burrow's East Coast type man. Yes, I just want to
weigh in on Jabrill Peppers. First, you want nothing to
do with him because Bill Peppers makes absolutely awesome Debrol
Peppers makes Kyle Dougger look like.

Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
Ed Reed, So you want nothing to do with him.

Speaker 37 (01:36:23):
Yeah, well, this kind of is going to tie into
my take on Bill Belichick because Bill Belichick drafted Kyle Douger,
signed Jabrill Peppers, loved them, and this is the reason
the Patriots are where they are now because for the
last ten years, Bill Belichick was constructing a team as
if it was nineteen eighty three and they had Lawrence
Taylor taking care of.

Speaker 2 (01:36:42):
All his sins.

Speaker 37 (01:36:44):
Now Belichick has coached one hundred and eighty eight games
without Tom Brady as the starting quarterback. I want to
guess what his record is without Brady as his starting quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
Eighty four and four goods.

Speaker 37 (01:36:59):
To play appearances, one playoff win. And this is over
like twelve seasons. This isn't you know, a short period
of time. So I've always been a guy here in
Boston's pushed back that he's the greatest coach ever. The
greatest coach ever is Paul Brown, called by Vince Lebardi.
Then go after your discussion but the safety position Justin
Simmons who went to BC, and I don't think it's

(01:37:20):
still play because the reason that Rabel got rid of Peppers,
from one of my understandings, not scheme fit, is that
character issue with Rabel.

Speaker 5 (01:37:29):
He's trying to.

Speaker 37 (01:37:29):
Rebuild a culture here and he wants his players to
be respectful of other coaches, players, everyone in the for office,
people that work at the cafeteria. And Jerrol Pickerins was
not that guy. So he's gone now, so you want
to probably avoid him. Justin Simmons would be I think
a fantastic addition, And just one more thing I wanted
to weigh in. I don't want to sound like the

(01:37:49):
old guy that doesn't have to log into the streaming
services or calls this case copany to find up within
how the game is, how do you do how do
you got?

Speaker 2 (01:37:57):
How do you do popbacks?

Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
If you download the iHeartRadio app and you searched ESPN
fifteen thirty, there's a play button and a little microphone button,
and if you tap that little microphone, it'll take you
to the screen, you record a talkback and then you
send it in.

Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
That's it bang, all.

Speaker 9 (01:38:17):
Right, Thanks guys.

Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
That you're never going to get that manuted back forth.

Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
You would be surprised, John, how often they thank you
for the phone call. I often get phone calls from
people who say, what's like, what's the number for talkback?

Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
Or how do I do that?

Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
So John, you're not alone, You're just the first. Well
you're not the first, but not many people have the
guts to ask on the air.

Speaker 2 (01:38:42):
So shout out to John to pick up where he
left off. Man, that was tough watching North Carolina last night.
I thought, I thought, at the very least that would
be a coaching advantage with Bill Belichick on the sideline,
and I thought they were out coach last night. Now
I get your money and sixty seventy new guys. That's
going to take some time. That was bad last night.

(01:39:04):
That was tough to watch. Yeah, and credit TCU. They
played well, but that was tough to watch. As it
relates to North Carolina. We talked about u SE a
lot on Friday. The main games from the weekend. Let's
start with the big noon game Austin, Texas, Ohio State
social media was a tough tough place to be if

(01:39:25):
your name is Arch Manning. From about twelve to three,
and even after that on Saturday afternoon. This is an
Ohio State defense. I believe they had seven players drafted
on the defensive side of the ball somewhere around there.

Speaker 3 (01:39:37):
Yeah, they have eight new starters on defense.

Speaker 2 (01:39:39):
Lose their defensive coordinator, and I thought pitched almost a
perfect game against Texas and arch Manning. You could question
arch Manning all you want, You could text question Sark
and the play calling all you want. I certainly didn't
think it was made easy for Texas, but Ohio State defensively,
and I think them winning Austin without getting anywhere near

(01:40:02):
their best on the offensive side of the ball against
the number one team in the country's pretty good. What
were your thoughts on the Buckeyes.

Speaker 3 (01:40:11):
I was a little bit concerned that Jeremiah Smith dropped
two passes. I was a little bit concerned that Julian
saying miss Jeremiah Smith on a deep ball should.

Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Have been a touchdown that play has called for him.

Speaker 3 (01:40:21):
And I was a little bit concerned that they couldn't
get the run game going, especially between the tackles. Those
things concerned me a little bit, but it never felt
like or looked like at all what we saw from
Ohio State offensively a year ago, which is not much
of a surprise. Keep in mind they both lost both

(01:40:42):
their coordinators too. Chip Kelly is now at the Las
Vegas Raiders, Jim Knowles now at Penn State and Ninde Lions.
So I was watching it thinking, gosh, there's really not
much here. This is very bland, it's very boring. It's
run of the mill type of stuff. But I was
rust with how accurate Julian Sayan was on all four

(01:41:04):
of those drops. They were all catchable passes, like they
were drops for a reason, And even on the deep
ball he missed. Jeremiah Smith, he threw a ball on
the run to a tight end on the sideline that
should have been a conversion on fourth and one, and
instead it was a drop pass. So I was impressed
with his accuracy and handling that moment and handling that defense.

(01:41:27):
It was very impressed with the interior of Ohio State
on the pass block side. I mean that Colin Simmons
is one of the best in the country and he
did nothing nothing against Ohio State, which I thought was
very impressive. But more than anything, defensively, it was showing
a lot of different looks. It was disguising coverages. It

(01:41:50):
was just making life difficult on arch Manning, which it's
already difficult to go on the road and play at
Ohio State with all those good players that they have,
and the guy that jumped off the screen. To me,
most Ohio State fans would tell you r vel Reese
and they would absolutely have a case for that. But

(01:42:11):
to me, it was Jermaine Matthews wenton Wood's product, which
is why, by the way, when he intercepted a pass,
Ohio State tweeted, Cincinnati, where you at as if stand up, Cincinnati,
your boy just made a play. Yeah, so did Bearcats fans.
Very sensitive bunch. Anyways, Jermaine Matthews was awesome. He was
great sidelined to sideline, he gave up a touchdown on

(01:42:33):
that touchdown, was perfect coverage. It was just the best
ball arch Manning through all day, and it was a
touchdown pass got. The interception, was great in space, was
great tackling. He was a monster for Ohio State. A
couple of the other can I tell you though, why
I'm a little bit sure pressed the pause button on

(01:42:53):
matt Patricia. A lot of people in Columbus, a lot
of people around Ohio State not really thrilled with the
Matt Patricia higher when happened. People were like, this dude
didn't coach to went poorly with the Lions. Is he
a Bill Belichick merchant? Like, how do we? I don't
know about this. And that's where I stood on the
camp in Matt Patricia and I still kind of am there. Yes,

(01:43:14):
they shut down a good Texas team and Arch Manning,
but Arch missed some easy throws at least four or
five run of the mill easy completions late in the game.
If he makes those throws, it's a different game. Drew
Alller at Penn State's not going to miss those throws,
Sure he's not. And that's going to keep a drive

(01:43:37):
alive or be a big third down conversion or get
you into field goal range or whatever it might be.
And also, Matt Patricia had all off season to study
Steve Sarkisian. How much you know is he going to
study Penn State? How much is he going to study Illinois?
How much is he going to know about those other

(01:43:58):
guys as opposed to having months do come up with
a game plan. And by the way, I believe if
I'm not mistaken. The game plan that Patricia used was
very similar to the twenty sixteen and twenty seventeen Super Bowls,
in which Steve Sarkesian was a part of the staff,
and so he knew Steve Sarkisian very well from their
time together previously. And so that I'm just saying, I'm

(01:44:23):
not completely like, Okay, this guy's gonna win the Broyles Award.

Speaker 2 (01:44:26):
I'm not there yet. Florida State Alabama. More about how
well Florida State was able to play their new quarterback
Tommy Castianos, I thought was awesome both running in passing.
Or more about how bad and at times disinterested Alabama
looked the first time. I believe they had won twenty
three straight openers. That is over now Florida State beats

(01:44:49):
him thirty one to seventeen. More about Florida State and
Mike Nevelle, or more about Alabama.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
I'm gonna say it's more about Alabama just not being
able to put this whole thing together.

Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:45:00):
Now, they did lose a ton of dudes, sure when
Saban left, and it's not easy to rebuild that. But
it seems to be that there's a lack of accountability
a lack of structure, a lack of culture. It just
doesn't look like a team that is firing on all cylinders.
Something's missing about Alabama. And you know they were dominated

(01:45:26):
up front, which you just can't say that very often
at all.

Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
About the Crimson time Notre Dame Miami, I thought Notre
Dame went away from what they're best at, which is
running the balled Also, I'll give him props because I
think he made some really good throws. Carson Beck is
kind of an unknown for me. He transfers from Georgia,
he goes to Miami. I thought he played a solid game,
and I thought the playmakers around him certainly showed up

(01:45:52):
in a big way. And that Miami defense I thought
played well at the end. But again, you go more
about Notre Dame not getting done more about Miami. That
was to me more impressed with what Miami did.

Speaker 3 (01:46:01):
I agree with that one hundred percent. I watched Carson
Beck thinking, Okay, this dude's taking a step forward here,
like this is a quarterback that has improved from the
last time I watched him play. And you're right, Notre
Dame in those conditions just not running the football, not
finding a way to get the ball in the hands
of Jeremiah Love.

Speaker 2 (01:46:20):
I thought it was a miss. Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:46:22):
Lastly on the cass that touchdown catch unbelievable, was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (01:46:27):
I thought. I think what I walked away from with
the most impressive win of the weekend was what LSU
did at Clemson one two top ten teams going at it.
I like what Clemson has, I like the makeup of
that team, but I walked away from that watching LSU.
They got a hell of a defense and I think
they have the best quarterback in college football. I did

(01:46:48):
not see one quarterback all weekend handle the game at
the line of scrimmage better than what they were able
to do at LSU. I think they got cheated on
a touchdown. I think that should have been a little
bit wider spread. I walked away from the weekend probably
I would say LSU and Ohio State I was the
most impressed with. But I think LSU has a real

(01:47:08):
chance and what seems to be maybe a little bit
of a down sec this year to make a lot
of noise this year.

Speaker 3 (01:47:13):
And on the same vein, I was disappointed in Kate Klebnick. Yeah,
I thought I was going to see a little bit
more from him, and it felt like there were some
times where he just got frazzled and just panicked and
didn't really know what to do with the ball or
do it himself. And on the opposite side of that,
Garrett Nasmyer was incomplete control.

Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Dabo today said that it was like having an exam
passed out on the first day of school. Neither team
did well on it, he said, But LSU scored a
sixty five and we scored a fifty nine. That's Dabo's words.
That's not the worst way to look at it. I
guess not.

Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
Those these games are important for you now later on,
you know, you'd rather lose to LSU than lose to
you know, Bowling Green or something like that. How the
hard part about this is you go from so many
good games in week one to one ranked game in
week two. That is Oklahoma hosting Michigan. Boomer, that is
the only game in which two ranked teams will face

(01:48:08):
off against each other.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
Where's that game?

Speaker 9 (01:48:10):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
That is in Norman, Oklahoma. Thank god, Boomer, Sooner, Boomer,
what you're saying, Boomer? There we go. We've got We've
got to talk to Matt mckown in just a few
moments before we get that. You want to take a
blind phone call? Oh boy, when's the last time on Tuesday?
On a Tuesday? Who we got? What's up?

Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
We're gonna go live here to color number three color?
If you can hear our voice? You're on the air.
What is your name?

Speaker 2 (01:48:37):
Mike? What's up? What up?

Speaker 11 (01:48:39):
Mike?

Speaker 2 (01:48:39):
You're on the air.

Speaker 9 (01:48:41):
What's up?

Speaker 38 (01:48:41):
So let's thank you.

Speaker 12 (01:48:42):
I should have played the lottery today. I could have
done a little dirt. Well, I don't know where to
start on the college football uh I, I'm even one
with you, Tony.

Speaker 9 (01:48:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
I think he's the best quarterback in college football. And
you know better than I do about that.

Speaker 38 (01:49:02):
And that defense is another no joke. I mean they
are tough all over tough. I really like Penn State too.
I wouldn't be surprised if Penn State and LSU played
each other through national championship. Does Ohio State play Penn
State regular season this year?

Speaker 2 (01:49:20):
Austin, yep, November one.

Speaker 9 (01:49:23):
WHOA, that will be special.

Speaker 2 (01:49:26):
That's also you see at Utah, So that's gonna be
a tough one for a TV audience.

Speaker 12 (01:49:31):
Yeah right, yeah, Nationally, that will be really hard.

Speaker 2 (01:49:36):
It's tough to sell.

Speaker 9 (01:49:39):
The advertisers are.

Speaker 13 (01:49:40):
Pumping that money up like Super Bowl money.

Speaker 9 (01:49:42):
Okay, to get to the Reds real quick. I think.

Speaker 12 (01:49:47):
You know, we keep talking about catching the match. What
we better do is look over our shoulder and see
the Giants are right on our Butte yeah, it always Arizona. Now,
Arizona's two and a fact. The Giants are one game
back of us. So instead of focusing on them, the Giants, I.

Speaker 3 (01:50:10):
Think I think we lost. We lose them, Sorry, Mike.

Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
Now to Mike's point, I will say this, I do
think the Giants are a threat. But if if the
Reds were to get passed by the Giants, it doesn't
matter anyway exactly. That's that's that's what I was about this,
Like I very there could be a listen. It would
not surprise me, Austin is if by the end of
the year the Reds were looking up at San Francisco,

(01:50:36):
Arizona and maybe somebody else for sure, just because the
last six series are very, very tough for the Reds.
But you can't look at anyone behind you because if
you get past it, you're you're losing out.

Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Anyway, let me take a quick peek here at the
Giants schedule, just to to check it out. They are
in the midst of a three game set at Colorado.

Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
Yikes.

Speaker 27 (01:50:58):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:50:58):
Then they are at Saint Louis home against Arizona, home
against the Dodgers, at Arizona at the Dodgers, home against
the They only play three teams. Yeah, this is crazy.
They play the whole month of September Colorado twice, Dodgers twice,
Dbax twice, Cardinals twice.

Speaker 2 (01:51:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:51:20):
So six games against Colorado, that's obviously concerning. But seven
games against the Dodgers, six games against Arizona.

Speaker 2 (01:51:31):
Yeah yeah. Unfortunately, if someone passes the final schedule, it
doesn't matter. You've got to find a way to catch
the Mets, which is not going to be an easy task.

Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
How September twenty seventh, there's a Rafael Devers T shirt
giveaway Big one, Big one forty nine baseball jersey on
the thirteenth. That's kind of cool to put into perspective.

Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
The Mets two more at Detroit, three at Cincinnati, four
at Philadelphia. Then they played texts San Diego before finishing
out against Washington, Chicago, and Miami. The Cubs in Chicago,
not the White Sox, but I mean they have a
tough stretch right now, So try to make a little noise,
put a little pressure on and certainly see what happens

(01:52:15):
when we get back. We're going to talk to my guy,
Matt McEwan. He's going to visit in studio today from
Red Brick Legacy. They've got a big announcement that they
just finished up a partnership with a new beer and
we'll talk about that in a little bit of the
RedHawks and the nil World for Miami. Next on ESPN
fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 4 (01:52:35):
It's the first game of the season and the Bengals
are looking to start with a winning record. To do it,
they have to beat the Browns well Zach Taylor's team
pull off the interstate win. Get the Call live from
Dan Hoyd and Dave Lap. Coverage begins Sunday morning at
nine am. Extream for free on the new and improved
iHeartRadio app or ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of

(01:52:59):
US Simpson Bengals.

Speaker 5 (01:53:01):
It's ma Legger Join me this afternoon. I'm doing the
show from Oakley Greens in Oakley today starting at three
to five on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (01:53:12):
Cincy three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
Welcome back since E three to sixty rolling along hour
number three ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to
Penn Station. This Tuesday afternoon, football is back in the
National Football League. We're getting already into Week two of
the college football season, and I wanted to retouch here
on something we've talked about leading up into the offseason
that's going on at the at Miami of Ohio with

(01:53:46):
our friends at Red Brick Legacy and something that is
being unveiled for them or has been unveiled and now
is official that we can talk about today. So I
got Matt mchun with us today from Red Brick Legacy
and also Elliott Culter, the COO of since Naty Beverage Company,
joining us today. Fellas, what's going on? What's going on?

Speaker 13 (01:54:04):
This is?

Speaker 2 (01:54:05):
This is awesome. Matt, Let's start where we kind of
left off with everything going on with Red Brick Legacy
and what you guys are trying to do from an
NIL perspective to drive things at Miami of Ohio. What
is the latest with where Red Brick is and and
kind of the advancement you guys have been making. Yeah.

Speaker 39 (01:54:23):
So since your last talked Tony, a lot has certainly
happened with the legislation over the summer and then Miami
University Athletics really in the school really stepping up to
to help manage Red Brick Legacy, which has been fantastic
and at leading up to this, what we were working
on for quite a few months with Elliott and since

(01:54:43):
any beverage company was the Red Brick Legacy Official Beer,
which we're calling Uptime Light. And there was a lot
of reasons why we named it that, which I'll go into,
and then why we partnered with Cincinnti Beverage Company because
there's a great story behind behind them rand in the
beverage itself.

Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
Yeahs as it goes for for you, Elliott, what made
the most sense on these guys with Red Brick Legacy
in Miami.

Speaker 7 (01:55:10):
Yeah, I think we've seen the success of in Il
Beers over the last year or so.

Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
We wanted a partner local.

Speaker 7 (01:55:17):
We knew that, you know, the program up there in
Miami was great organization that that Matt and team had
kind of led with his Nio collective and to put
together this vintage kind of beer brand that we've had
in our portfolio for a while and really wanted to
wait for the right time to release it. It was
kind of this perfect marriage of how do we, you know,
bring this this historic brand back that's been such such

(01:55:38):
a rooted history in Cincinnati with an organization like Mattz
To be able to kind of part of these two together,
it was just a perfect time. And so we're ecstatic
when the opportunity finally materialize and finally getting beer out in.

Speaker 2 (01:55:49):
Market Cincinnati, in the University of Cincinnati, and the partnership
they've had with sincey Light, I think has far exceeded
even their wildest dreams and expectations of what that could
mean for the NIL program at the University of Cincinnati
and that continues. How much of that are you able
to kind of look towards and start now creating your
own path with Uptown Light.

Speaker 7 (01:56:10):
Yeah, I mean I think they were the pioneers, right,
They were the first arguably the first in il beer
out there, first light beer that Ryan Geist did. So
it was kind of the perfect storm of this. The
name is great, you know, tying back to Cincinnati, so
they've you know, I set a really solid foundation on
how to do a program, and a lot of schools
and breweries have followed. So yeah, certainly the success of

(01:56:34):
Ryan Geist. We're friendly with him, we know him really well.
But to give an opportunity for school like Miami to
get a product that you know, essentially does the same
thing as all these other beers was really important. So
I think shout out to Ryan Geist, who kind of
started this trend. But you know, every school deserves an
opportunity to have an NIL beer, and the fact that
Miami didn't have one yet was a perfect opportunity for

(01:56:56):
us to partner up.

Speaker 2 (01:56:57):
Why what made you settle on Uptown Light? Yeah?

Speaker 26 (01:57:00):
Great, great question.

Speaker 39 (01:57:01):
So thinking about everything that we learned from since you
Light and watching that story and that's been very well
publicized around with NIL programs, there's so much donor fatigue
and you to to continuously fund the NIL collective or
NIL collectives, you really need a stable revenue stream and
so since the Light really has been probably the bookend

(01:57:24):
factor for you. See I mean there's an article about
this in the in the Business Career, So it's not
like it's I'm sharing anything new. But relative to Uptown Light,
what we wanted to do is create a brand that
really encapsulated Miami and uptown is synonymous with Miami.

Speaker 26 (01:57:41):
Students often say, let's go uptown.

Speaker 39 (01:57:44):
I know when when I was there, you know, all
my football teammates, when we were doing anything.

Speaker 26 (01:57:49):
We were you know, full full throttle.

Speaker 39 (01:57:51):
Yeah, And so going uptown was was one of those
aspects of the whole college experience, and whether or not
you're from Miami or you're in different geographical areas like
in downtown Austin there's an uptown as well. We really
wanted it to not have any sort of geographical restrictions.
And so why I absolutely love since E Light. You

(01:58:12):
know what Ellie and I had had talked about is
we don't know if that actually plays well in other markets.
It's not like you can go sell that in Michigan,
for example, right, So that's why it works really well here.
But with Helptown Light, where we're looking to do is
create a bigger geographical brand again that had that that
story of Miami behind it.

Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
From a availability standpoint, from a packaging standpoint, what does
that look like now? With where folks can can find
it or where they're going to be able to find it.

Speaker 7 (01:58:42):
Yeah, so drafts out now pretty much all around Oxford.
Any major bar in Oxford has draft available. We're packaging
the can product tomorrow, so this should be in market
next week in packaged product throughout the Oxford area. But
also you know, we're gonna we're gonna expand that distribution
to to kind of all of southwest of how to start,
and we think it should be a really warm reception.

(01:59:05):
It's great to have draft. We've got some great partners
up in Oxford who have supported and launched the product,
but really getting to be able to get those cans
in people's hands and market that brand, promote that brand
is it's going to be a big step. So starting
next week, we anticipate this to be in and round
Oxford for sure, and then throughout the greater Cincinnati area
in the following weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:59:24):
So for folks to be able to head uptown. This
is not from a Miami gobby. They could head uptown,
tune into Miami at Rutgers this weekend on Peacock and
be able to drink some uptown light.

Speaker 26 (01:59:35):
Absolutely.

Speaker 39 (01:59:35):
I mean, if you're gonna go uptown, you might as
well drink Uptown Light, right, And I want to.

Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Go host UNLV after that. Yeah.

Speaker 39 (01:59:41):
Yeah, And so you know, if you're if you're at
the store and you're thinking about trying a new beer,
give give Uptown Light a chance. You know, whether or
not you have any affiliation with the school. It's a
great beer since any beverage company did a great job.
The brand behind it, the story behind it with Red Top,
which they resurrected, is such a great story. And again,

(02:00:02):
you know, it's really important for the NIL program.

Speaker 2 (02:00:06):
I don't think you could watch this first weekend of
college football and not see the value of NIL teams
that lose a team like Ohio State, what seven players
on defense get drafted and they rebuild and their defense
looks just I mean, it takes a lot. And those
are the top tier programs. It takes a lot for
schools like a UC or a Miami for year in
and year out to be able to compete and retain

(02:00:27):
some of that roster and be able to go spend elsewhere.
As it relates to Miami, you guys go on the
road at Wisconsin. I believe what three to nothing in
a halftime. Yes, great defensive performance, special teams look good.
Offense wasn't able to get it going. They lose seventeen
to nothing. But opening that Madison in a big time
environment against a big ten team and kind of holding

(02:00:48):
your own how much weight does that hold going forward
for you?

Speaker 26 (02:00:52):
It holds a lot of way.

Speaker 39 (02:00:53):
I mean if you look at and I've rematched the
game I think three times already, but special teams played
great defense, played great offense.

Speaker 26 (02:01:02):
We'll get there.

Speaker 39 (02:01:03):
So I think it was a you know, a good
first week for us where we'll go back and watch
the tape and do what we do at practice to
really beat ready for Rutgers and I we were talking about,
you see before, the same thing here.

Speaker 26 (02:01:14):
I mean, they should have beat Nebraska.

Speaker 2 (02:01:16):
It is it's hard because the margin of air, especially
in week one, is so different, and in today's world,
you're implementing a lot of new players into a system
and you don't get the benefit of a preseason like
the NFL. So it's hard because you watch in the
landscape of Week one in football, teams are still on
the fly finding out who they are and what they have.
You can only tell so much from a practice or

(02:01:39):
scrimmages against each other. It's hard. I think you're trying
to feel things out as you go. Obviously, Chuck Martin
has the track record. We know that. You know once
the MAX season gets here, this team is always playing
at their best. But speaking of the MAC and speaking
of Rutgers, Ohio University went into Rutgers and that game
was thirty one thirty one after three quarters. Rutgers finishes
with a thirty four to thirty one win. So from

(02:02:01):
a MAX standpoint, seeing how oh you played and not
being a rival in the MAC, does that lend the
opening of being able to go on the road and
believing you can go not just compete, but win a
game against a team like Rutgers.

Speaker 39 (02:02:15):
Absolutely. What I will tell you is Ohio is good.
So I went to the Match Championship last year. That
was heartbreaking. It really wasn't even competitive. So they are
a good team. But our roster has changed significantly since
last year, which a lot of teams have with an
IL obviously, but I think we're really confident going into
the Rutgers game. Should be a great game, should be

(02:02:37):
another good weekend in college football.

Speaker 2 (02:02:39):
Mentioned Chuck Martin, real quick, I would be remiss not
to talk about the Cradle of Coaches. I think there's
been so many people so interested in this documentary and
what's happening with it. Where are things with the documentary
and how is that looking going forward.

Speaker 39 (02:02:52):
Yeah, so in terms of timing still a little bit
i'd call it fluid. But if you want to follow updates,
there's Creative Coaches handle on Instagram and anybody who's anybody
that's been a part of the program that's a big
name is in it. So not only is Sean McVay,
one of my teammates of the Rams, head coach of
the Rams, and then Chris Shula, who's the defensive coordinator

(02:03:14):
of the Rams, and then one of our other teammates,
Joe Caniglio, is the outside linebackers coach. They're all in it.
Sean Payton's been interviewed as well with the Broncos. So
that's what a lot of people really don't know too.
We're actually throwing around that is like an idea should
we for the brand for Uptown Light, you know, directionally,
should we have tied it in with something like the
Creative Coaches or something like that. But really I think

(02:03:35):
the direction that we went is better because it doesn't
just represent athletics, it represents the whole Miami feel well.

Speaker 2 (02:03:41):
Saban has always had that coke bottle on his postgame interviews.
Just get McVeigh to put, you know, a bottle of
a can of Uptown Light up there. Should we send
them to read LA from the Uptown Light standpoint? Is
there a way that people can kind of learn more
about everything that's going on or something to watch for
going forward.

Speaker 7 (02:03:58):
Yeah, so we'll continue to put additional marketing and peace surrounded.
They can call our social Uptown Light. We have uptown
Light dot com as the website. But you know, I
think more will come with package. It's always great to
pre promote the product and tell people to go for draft,
but I think once these cans can get in hand,
that's really where you can start to really drive the brand.
Just for the beer itself, it's a four point two

(02:04:18):
percent light logger, so it's a beer for everybody. It's
not a you know, heavily hopped or crazy big stout.
It's something that you know, appeals to the masses, which
is what we want to do with this product. But yeah,
it's great to have the brand back I think we
had we had referenced the legacy of the brand. Redtop
actually started in nineteen oh four as a multing company,
survived through promission and then opened up as a brewery

(02:04:40):
in thirty three. Lasted until about fifty seven, so it
had twenty plus years of really operation within the Ohio market.
Cincinnati market became one of the larger ones here. So
to see this brand come back after seventy years is
really exciting for us in the brewery world, and a
lot of you know, I know, beer nerds across the country,
collect or things like that of memorabilia will be great

(02:05:02):
to see it back. But it was a special brand
for us, one that we've had again in our portfolio
for a while and really one of the right opportunities.
So bring this thing back after seventy years, having this
heyday post prohibition of it really growing to what it was,
it's something special. So we're really excited about the relaunch.
And the liquid is phenomenal for anybody who is a
light beer drinker, which is most people have there.

Speaker 2 (02:05:22):
Yeah, I know from the Cincy light standpoint alumni in
a fan base for the Bearcats, it was just always
cool to kind of have something to tie into your own.
I feel like you're also giving back at the same
time to the nil and now for not just folks
in Oxford, but the Miami faithful here in Cincinnati and
everywhere else around to be able to kind of get
their hands on this. It's an awesome step in the
right direction. It's awesome. Congratulations with everything you have going on,

(02:05:45):
Matt on Red Brick Legacy. For those that want to
learn more or just keep up with everything that's going
on as well, same thing, what's the easiest way for
folks to follow along?

Speaker 26 (02:05:54):
Social media is the best. So Red Brick Legacy is
our handle.

Speaker 39 (02:05:58):
We like you know, like Elliott said, we did a
lot of uh social media communication about the brand up
until launch last week. Brick Street was a great partner.
Did a launch party by Happenstance. De Baby happened to
be performing and there that night, So we were actually
talking about whether or not we should relaunch it because
everyone everyone was kind of focused on that.

Speaker 2 (02:06:20):
But say the lines were for the beer. Yeah, awesome,
awesome stuff. Just be ready to do in football season
as well. I'm terrified for the Bengals offensive line and
with your offensive line passed. I'll be relying on you
a lot going forward to talk UH Bengals up front
as well.

Speaker 39 (02:06:36):
Absolutely, you got Elliott out here too, played at Davidson,
so he got Steph Curry started.

Speaker 2 (02:06:42):
He told me that he got he gave Steph Curry
a start.

Speaker 39 (02:06:45):
Yeah, Well one more thing I will I will say,
And I know I've congratulated you in person, but I
just wanted to say, you know, congrats agating on the
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (02:06:54):
Thank you, so thank you Elliott.

Speaker 39 (02:06:55):
What people don't necessarily know is Tony is so good
at everything. It just made me so sick when I
was a kid. You know where he grew up kind
of around the same area where I grew up. In
my opinion, Tony was the first hymn almost like the
first Randy Moss right where any sport. I remember, like
the first time I saw him play tennis, like on

(02:07:17):
a family vacation, I was just like, he's good at everything.
So that you know, I have not supported since he light,
but I will absolutely be there for your Hall of
Fame Thie induction.

Speaker 2 (02:07:27):
I appreciate that. Thank you for the words, and I
appreciate you guys stopping by. It's an exciting time with
fall coming and football season here, and it's awesome to
see what what you guys have going on and everything
that Matt. You guys have kind of started from the
ground up and spearheaded diss to give Miami this this
competitive advantage going forward. It's awesome to watch and keep

(02:07:49):
an eye on. We appreciate you guys stopping by. We
still got more to go. Our three since he three
sixty thanks to Penn Station on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports.

Speaker 6 (02:07:57):
Tick, ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (02:08:06):
Welcome back. We are a little late, but we got
one quick thing to get to. It's a Postman Law
injury report. Thanks to our friends at Postman Law. If
you're injured, Postman delivers, just call eight four to four
Postman Couple quick Reds updates from an injury standpoint here
Austin nick Lodolo. What do we know about Nickolodola?

Speaker 3 (02:08:23):
Nicklodolo has been scratched from his start tonight due to illness.
It will be a bullpen game, so the Reds will
start Scott Barlow on the mound tonight against the Blue Jays.

Speaker 2 (02:08:37):
Well, they have Sam Mall.

Speaker 3 (02:08:38):
Sam Mall, According to Charlie Goldsmith is being optioned to
Triple A Louisville and Reverse San Martin is coming up.
If I read that correctly, which it's been a while
since we've seen uh seen him, but let.

Speaker 2 (02:08:53):
Me double check that. Yes, Reverse sand Martin so also
Chase Burns ditto. I give them a session on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:09:00):
Yes, he has two live bullpens scheduled this week, including
one today. According to Charlie and Tyler, Stevenson will begin
a rehab assignment tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:09:09):
All right, that's our Postman Law Angey report. Thanks to
Postman Law, if you're injured, Postman delivers call eight four
four Postman Moleagger is next for quick hits on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
Three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
It's time for since he three sixty quick hits on
ESPN fifteenth there.

Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
Was looking for Mo. Moe's not here because he's at
Oakley Greens. I know that because he's there every Tuesday
of the football season where he's joining us right now? Mo,
what's going on? Oh man?

Speaker 36 (02:09:40):
It is?

Speaker 2 (02:09:41):
It is perfect outside.

Speaker 5 (02:09:42):
We're in the outdoor bar area here at Oakley Greens.
You know, someone in the office today came up with
the idea. You know, Paul Danner Junior's with me for
an hour on Tuesdays, he and I playing mini golf
as we do our hour on the BET.

Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (02:09:56):
So I don't know that we're gonna be able to
do that today, but perhaps this we can make that happen.

Speaker 2 (02:10:01):
I like the idea. I like the thought. What do
you got coming up? Outside of Paul Danner Junior? What
do you got on the show today?

Speaker 5 (02:10:06):
We have a game on Sunday. All we do have
answers to questions coming up. We have a Bengals game
on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (02:10:12):
We got a.

Speaker 5 (02:10:13):
We have a depth chart which Lucas Patrick is the
starting right guard.

Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
I wonder how long that's going to be.

Speaker 5 (02:10:21):
Some are not quite sure why Drew samples the number
one tight end.

Speaker 2 (02:10:26):
Spend some time on that with Paul. I'm going to
issue a.

Speaker 5 (02:10:29):
Directive to the Bengals for these first four games. Change
my mind.

Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
We're in a world now where if you.

Speaker 5 (02:10:37):
Say the Bengals are going to go ten and seven,
which is what I think they're going to be, that
that sounds pessimistic.

Speaker 13 (02:10:42):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (02:10:43):
I don't think it does quite frankly, but change my mind.
Can the Bengals change my mind over the next four weeks.
I care about myself more than anybody else. That's what
I want to know. You'll hear Scott Sadafield today. One
of the best pro football guests we have. You know,
we stumbled on this guy last year. Sean Sayah the
Statson's Key podcast and these stats and Skeeve Newsletter.

Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
He's one of these dudes.

Speaker 5 (02:11:04):
You find a lot of these folks on Twitter, you know,
they'll they'll break down film, yeah, and they love to,
you know, put up the TV and then there's the here,
let's let me show you what happened in this play.
Ninety nine percent of those people have no idea what
they're doing, but Sean does, so he's just going to
join us at five twenty at the Red Stay Alive.
I was sitting on my patio yesterday and we had

(02:11:27):
my wife's family over and they had just sort of
packed up and all left, and so it's like the
bottom of the eighth inning and I'm like, cool, I'll
see the ninth and my phone to that point had
been across the patio over by our fire pit. And
as soon as Emilio Pecand gave up the go ahead
home run, my phone dinged and I said to my wife,

(02:11:48):
I will bet you one hundred dollars in my manstash,
because you know, every guy's got to have like a
separate stash, and my wife knows it. I'll bet you
one hundred dollars that that's Austin Elmore. So she owes
me a hundred bucks. I'm not sure what was more predictable,
Amelia Pagan coughing up the game, which the Reds didn't win,
so he kept calling up the lead, not the game

(02:12:09):
after the infield hit, or Austin text like he couldn't wait. No,
like this, when Amelia Pagan was throwing his warm up pitches,
Austin had the text ready just.

Speaker 2 (02:12:18):
In case psyped it out, ready to go. And by
the way, your analysis was accurate.

Speaker 3 (02:12:25):
I have to ask you, Mo, what did you think
of Terry Francona and talking about Suth Stuart but just
trying to move him over.

Speaker 2 (02:12:34):
I can't imagine this wait for South Stuart and Mose
tuned in for his first at bat and he lays
down a sack bun attempt.

Speaker 29 (02:12:42):
I just.

Speaker 5 (02:12:44):
I understand that there are generations of baseball fans who
have been conditioned because their little league coach told them
or their granddad told them that bunting is a good idea.

Speaker 2 (02:12:57):
I understand it.

Speaker 5 (02:12:58):
But then when you know, people come with data, and
you can call it analytics, it's data. It's information that
indicates that over the course of the last one one
hundred and twenty five years, that successfully sacrificed bunting decreases
your run expectancy per inning. We still have people who
think it's a good strategy. Now anecdotally, are there times

(02:13:19):
where I think it makes some sense? Yeah, And I
could sort of be convinced on Saturday night after the fact.
But this manager, Terry Francon, is going to be in
the Hall of Fame, and that's terrific, and he's a
good manager, and I'm glad he's here. I do not
understand his infatuation with little ball. And it would be
one thing if like the Reds played little ball, well

(02:13:40):
salth Stewart's on the team because he might be able
to run into one right yep, and we're having him
move guys over.

Speaker 2 (02:13:46):
They'll have to try to find a way tonight without
Nick Lodolo, who's been scratched. Scott Barlow's going to start
tonight out of what you saw this weekend, mo let
me limit it to the Ohio State win against number
one Texas and the LSU win at number four Clemson.
Which of those wins do you think was more impressive.
LSU's got a defense and quarterback.

Speaker 5 (02:14:08):
Yeah, I will say LSU only because look, Ohio State's
defense was terrific and Julian Saying did enough.

Speaker 2 (02:14:17):
But I I felt.

Speaker 5 (02:14:19):
Like a lot of Texas's issues were on arch Manning now,
because nothing can ever just happen if suddenly now arch
Manning should transfer to like you, I don't know, Wilberforce
of Whitburg or Wilmington.

Speaker 2 (02:14:32):
Or Ohio school that starts with the W. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (02:14:34):
I can barely spit them out. But both were impressive.
I mean, I thought Ohio State was gonna win that game.
Brian Kelly's track record in season openers at LSU has
been spotty enough than him winning is I guess a
little bit of a surprise. But I thought their defense
was really really impressive. It was a weird It was
a weird week one.

Speaker 2 (02:14:54):
Yea. For what it's worse, would you make a coach
Belichick's before my goodness, sayah, I don't like it.

Speaker 5 (02:15:01):
I think Bill Belichick coaching in college football is interesting.
For it to be more interesting, I think it has
to work to a degree.

Speaker 2 (02:15:07):
It didn't work last night. For what it's worth more
because people care about this. And going into week two,
the new AP Top twenty five is at Ohio State
is number one, LSU moves up to number three, Miami
jumps five spots to number five, Texas seven, Clemson eight.
You look down there at number twenty five, I know
it was a very impressive loss for the Bearcats. They

(02:15:29):
are not getting any votes yet in the top twenty five.
Is that a surprise?

Speaker 9 (02:15:34):
See?

Speaker 2 (02:15:34):
Well, I thought maybe because of their effort on defense
that people maybe give them a vote. Because there's a
lot of teams that don't have a win that are
still ranked, including Alabama who dropped thirteen spots to number
twenty one.

Speaker 5 (02:15:46):
Look like the Dennis Franchioni version of Alabama, which most
Alabama fans I know do not remember. Did any of
those teams have quarterbacks throw from more than sixty nine yards?

Speaker 2 (02:15:57):
They did? That's mo I think arch through for more
than that most Next mo I, have a great show.
Enjoy the weather. I am. That's Moeger. He's next on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Have a great rest
of your Tuesday.
