Speaker 1 (00:00):
Line Chile.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Sincey three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part
by Skyline Chile. Stop by Skyline Chili through a three
way or cheez Coney. Today, feeling good, It's Skyline Time.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Good afternoon, Welcome in, Happy Thursday. It is since he
three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks
to our friends. It's Skyline Chili. For anytime you're feeling
good and hungry, It's Skyline Time. Thanks for joining us.
Let's just take a moment here here it is another
(00:55):
Cincinnati sports season has come to a crashing halt. Red's
swept out of Los Angeles. Their season is ended. They
do so in a microcosm of what went wrong over
the course of one hundred and sixty two games for them.
So true, all combined in one game last night. Yeah.
Questionable managerial decisions yes, pitching decisions yes. Inability to hit
(01:19):
in big time moments. Runner, you're three four and five.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Hitters in scoring position, lineup questions, bat's on shoulders, shoddy defense,
inability to field cleanly.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
So many things we have to talk about.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Swinging it, pitches, seventeen inches outside to strike soon.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
The end of the season, and what we'll talk about today.
If you're one of those out there and listen, everyone
is entitled to their own opinion. Your opinion might not
agree with mine. If you are one that's out there
today celebrating a successful red season merely because they made
it in on the last day of the year due
(02:02):
to another team's meltdown in an expanded playoff field. If
you count this season as a success, then we just disagree.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I think it is possible to be happy that they
made the postseason, sure, and I think we all should
be happy that they made the postseason. That's good for
us as fans, it's good for the organization. But that
does not mean that the season can be labeled a success.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
And from what I saw the reporting from our friend
Joe Danoman made me is that in the locker room
the clubhouse post game there was a sense of accomplishment.
That does not sit right with me, and that to me,
speaks to a bigger issue about the organizational attitude towards winning. Yeah,
(02:54):
they finished with eighty three regular season wins. Eighty three
in a normal season. That doesn't get you.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
In in a season where a team doesn't have a
historical collapse, you're not in correct, and yet you get
swept out of LA and there is a feel of accomplishment.
We're going to spend a lot of time on that today.
We're going to talk what happened in the other MLB games.
All three other games, by the way, Austin, the team's
(03:22):
facing elimination, forced a game three today. Yeah, Tiger's Guardians, Padres, Cubs,
Red Sox, Yankees, all happening today, lose and go home,
Wims and you're in. Have all been fun and competitive,
very true. I thought about maybe doing the show like
Shador Sanders today, Oh and just minding everything. That's not
a bad idea.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
What a clown act that was from Shador Sanders yesterday.
And you know what's funny is people start blaming the media.
It's like, why did the media go to him to
get a reaction? Well, why do you think correct? Because
they know they can correct because he is a and
an immature guy played right into it, and he played
(04:05):
right into it.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Here's what else we got coming up in our number
three today. Bob Manjean, University of Cincinnati and Novacare will
join us. How about Tom Gamble, the Chief. Oh Tom Gamble,
love that guy. Twenty eight years I believe has been
running the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Now.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
I used to produce his show Gambling Finn Yeah down
the Hall on Thursday Night, So I used to have
so much fun doing that.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Well, here's the thing. Last week they saw a good one.
They were at Saint X for Elder Saint X and
tomorrow night one of the top ten games across the
US as listed is Elder and Moler, but he's not
going there. He'll be at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Skyline
Chili Crosstown Showdown rolls to reading tomorrow night. Oh boy,
we're gonna talk to Tom Gamble in our number three
(04:49):
as well. How about coming up at twelve thirty. You
want something to believe in, you want something to fight for,
you want something that you can get behind. How about
the Cincinnati Bearcats. Let's go led by brent In Soresby,
who will join us live today at twelve thirty.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
It's just gonna be two guys chopping it up. Just
a couple of QBS sit coming for all your records.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Give any records left a couple. Have we checked on
that couple? I keep meaning to do that.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Oh, by the way, for ada Z Sports John Shearon, Yes,
and before I before I dive into what today is
and why it is special. I also, Austin would be
remissed if I didn't mention today. A good friend of mine,
Wayne Carucci. Now A couple of years ago, Wayne Carucci
retired and Austin, when you retire, you could just kind
(05:36):
of ride off into the sunset if you'd like. Sure,
you could play a lot of golf if you'd like.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Wayne Carucci, while playing a lot of golf, said nah, baby, Nah,
I'm going to get into coaching, and he started coaching
at Roger Bacon. He coaches the boys golf team at
Roger Bacon. When he got there, they went from one
win to now. They won sectionals. They came in second districts,
(06:01):
top two teams advance. The Roger Bacon boys golf team
is heading to state for the first time since nineteen
forty one. Blake Rowling, Alistair Fike ty Dumont, Henry full Willer,
Jude Voss all underclassmen, no seniors. So some would say
Wayne Carucci is building a powerhouse at Roger Bacon. Shout
(06:21):
out to my friend Wayne Carucci for what he has
going on, and to Roger Bacon Golf for what they've
done first time since nineteen forty one. That is incredible.
Congratulate those kids. Congratulations, Austin goes out to us today.
We don't do this much. Let's just pot ourselves on
the shoulders a little bit today. Let's give a huge,
(06:44):
a huge thank you. I was patting myself. Oh. Let's
give a huge thank you to our listeners, our callers,
our talkbackers, sponsors, from day one, everyone that has made
this show possible in its inception when it was a
one hour show Houston, which then grew to two and
now noon to three daily. It's since he three sixty
(07:08):
eighth anniversary.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Today, I think of people like James Rapeene, the visionary
to us, behind the product, behind the project, behind the show,
Moe Egger who did it himself for quite some time.
We think of people like Jimmy Sandy produced for many years,
so Jeff Jimmy, Guys like Jeff Carr who were a
part of this show, so many great ones. Tarren Bland
(07:33):
has helped out Sean McMahon, Drew Wester, Heidi all have
played major even our guy Liam, who has helped me
and he's covered more than once and left talkbacks. He's
probably ripping a couple of heaters right now. Would be
my guest. So many people over the years, Chad Brindle,
how could we forget? How about I think ken Brew
filled in one time. Yeah, there's been all sorts of
(07:56):
different people, wonderful sponsors. Skyline's been here from the very beginning.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Do you remember when we had rides as a sponsors?
That was a fun time. What about Voke Energy chewable tablet?
Do you remember getting voked up back in the day.
I do a lot of good stuff, and you know,
I've only been here for like four of it, so
you know, obviously it was long before me. But you know,
everybody from from Tarn Bland to Rick Uccino to Jimmy
(08:22):
Sandy to Anthony Pike and Mo Eggar and everyone else.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
What a day. It's pretty cool. Here's to uh, what
do they say, eight more years? I'm just lucky if
we get eight more minutes. Yep, that's what I'd like
to do. You know, my dad often says when it's
him and my mom's anniversary, no matter how many years
they've been doing it. But anytime I wonder how long
they've been doing it, I think about my age and
my mom and dad had been married thirty nine years now,
(08:48):
and every time they have an anniversary, my dad goes
to that same line. He says, you know, to me,
it only feels like thirty nine minutes underwater. So in
lieu of Big Steve to do you feel like you're
underwater right now?
Speaker 6 (09:04):
I do?
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Yeah, I do it. Uh, it feels like it's flown
by eight special special.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
You've been here for You've been doing it for five six,
I think it's six now six.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
It's crazy because I've been doing the Tony and Moe
Football Show for eleven, and that doesn't make sense like
I was just hanging out for those for those years
where I just do the one day and be like,
all right, see you next week. You've got other guys.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
I'm thinking about some of the constant guests that we
have had, Charlie Goldsmith. Obviously in the early years, Adam
Baum was on the ball. Love Adam Baum.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yep, oh Man, Yeah. Joey d obviously a big part
of it. So many people have made this possible, and honestly,
I can't thank everyone enough from again, our listeners, talk
about talkbacks, have become the guest, the sponsors, everyone that
has has poured into this show. Guys like Richard, Remember Richard,
shout out to Richard. I love Richard. We need and
(10:05):
this is serious, we need soon a Cincy three to
sixty appreciation night. We used to do them more regularly
on the schedule. We need to get one of those
in kind of try to do them this year. And
you bailed. Yeah, we need to get one of those
in soon.
Speaker 7 (10:19):
But uh, I asked myself, would you give your life
for Joe Burrow?
Speaker 8 (10:23):
Because he gave his life for you still holds.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
True today it's a good point. Would you give your toe?
What would you give for Cincy three sixty? Yeah, let's
celebrate today by talking about the Reds. How we're looking.
I thought, Austin, I thought we'd have a chance of
coming today and talk about the Reds have given us life.
And by golly, we got one more shot tonight. I
(10:47):
thought about it last night.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
I thought that if the Reds made the playoffs, Nicolodolo
and Andrew Abbott would throw more than fourteen combined pitches.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah, well, you know, Lodolo really slugged through last night.
He just didn't have his stuff. Yeah. Was there a
sane person on social media last night that thought Zach
Lttel should go back out for the fourth?
Speaker 5 (11:08):
No?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Was there a sane person that watched when Nick Martinez
took the mound and wondered, Wow, did Nick Lodolo get hurt?
Chase Burns minimal? Andrew Abbot minimal? Why Nick Lodolo minimal? Why?
Speaker 7 (11:26):
Year?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Sorry?
Speaker 6 (11:26):
All year?
Speaker 3 (11:27):
What we hear Austin? The Reds will be dangerous in
the playoffs because of their pitching Lodolo, Abbot, Green Burns.
They got how much from them? I thought they would?
How much from them?
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Fourteen pitches from Abbot and Lodolo, sixty five pitches in
which they were being tipped by Hunter Green and Chase
Burns pitched the last inning of the season when the
game was basically out of hand last night? Why go
to Nick Martinez in the sixth instead of Chase Burns?
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Don't get it? Why take Lodolo out? Don't get it?
And you feel if you're Will Benson, I actually feel
really bad for Will benchon you know Will Benson in
his first at bat last night.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
One of the best at bets he's ever showed a
great eye walked and even though he was down one too,
it looked like he was seeing the ball well.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
And I think he was seeing it so well that
Roberts thought, I'm not even gonna risk this. She hands
missing his spot. I'm not gonna risk this game changing
because we miss a spot. They bring in a picture
and Terry Francona takes the bat out of Will Benson's hand,
which is one unfair to him and two unfair to
give andngehar the bat but he's already down two strikes.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
And then he strikes out on the strikeout is a
sign to Will Benson. Yeah, and Benson understandably just walks
down to the tunnel. For him to have his season
end like that, Yeah, that is insulting to Will Benson, who, yes,
has had some moments where he leaves you scratching your
head and leaves you frustrated. But also it felt like
(12:57):
a dude who made a legitimate adjustment and was slowly
but steadily improving over the course of the entire season.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
And for the whatever thirty chunk thirty game chunk of
the season where he did not get a shot.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
That I just I don't understand. Is it bat was
great Austin. I watched in the first inning last night.
I think one of the best of bouts of the
season was south Stewart. Yeah, I agree, And I thought
to myself, this guy couldn't even make the roster until
the end of the year, and this guy got played
sparingly down the stretching in the postseason. That at bat
(13:35):
and not only the a bat Austin. We heard what
Joe Daniman said about the feeling in the clubhouse. Do
you think south Stewart had that feeling? That man was angry. Yeah,
he was upset after that game last night. He didn't
want it to end. He was responsible for three of
the runs. One of the best at bats you'll see
(13:55):
against Austin, one of the best pitchers in all of baseball,
got two strikes, battled ends up, choking down a little bit,
two RBI single red's, got the lead to nothing. That
bat couldn't make this roster, That bat couldn't consistently be
in the lineup every day on this team. And I'll
(14:18):
say it, and I text this to you guys last night, Austin.
I thought Yamamota was reeling a little bit. In the
first I agree there was an air. Stewart had a
grated bat, and then in the second he settled in
because he threw and got out Stevenson, and then he
got the pitch to Kee, Brian Hayes and Matt McLean
and it felt like after that he settled in, he
(14:40):
found what he was looking for and he was dominant.
They had him on the ropes, and the way the
lineup is constructed, in my opinion, let him off so
much frustration and what I thought would not be the
case often to where we had to question the managers,
what the feel up, the end game moves. It all finished,
(15:05):
I think with a lot to be desired, and for me,
disappointment that game didn't end last night and I didn't
sit back like, well, cheers to the twenty twenty five Reds.
What a ride it's been they made the playoffs. What
a successful year. I didn't think about that. I thought
about how disappointing it ended. You lose on the last
(15:27):
game of the regular season. You get in because the
Mets lost, You went forty to forty over your last
eighty regular season games, and you did things in the
playoffs that were just head scratching. I think frustrating was
the word that came to mind last night. Let's take
our first break of the day. We'll finish with or
we'll talk more Reds when we get back. We'll maybe
(15:49):
grab a phone callar too. And we got to get
to Brendan Soersby was gonna call us at twelve thirty today,
it's all ahead with so much to happen on the
eighth anniversary of Sincy three to sixty. Here's just so
many more. Thanks the Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. Now your chance to win a thousand dollars.
Speaker 9 (16:07):
Answered playing, and he muscles one the met seed and
when makes the cash and that's all Reds.
Speaker 10 (16:14):
Ball eight to four the doctors and the red season
comes through the clothes in Game.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Two of the National League Wild Guard Series.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
That's how the season sounded as it came to an
end last night for the Cincinnati Reds. But what I
will say, Austin is the good news is your season
doesn't have to come to an end for tailgating and
hosting get togethers thanks to Win Schulers. Our call today
brought to you by win Schuler's delicious cheese spreads. Don't
(16:46):
ask why, taste why. When it comes to parties, the bold,
fresh flavor of wind Schulers spreadable cheeses take a back
seat to no one, So make sure there's plenty on
hand when your next party kicks off. Do you want
one that's a little more positive, please?
Speaker 9 (17:00):
Swinging a soft ground ball past the first baseman, Freeman
hit rolls in the right, one run home right behind lux.
Here comes Hayes hand the red strike first, the kid
with a two run, go ahead single in the first inning.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
That was fun, man, I thought, all right, we'll be
right back here tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
So much fun. It's since he three sixty eight years
on air. Today, let's take a phone caller too. I
want to get the Brendan soaresby on time. Obviously, Austin,
when you think about the show, we've had great callers,
we've had great guests. We've had consistent callers as well.
We'll get to Jeff, we'll get to Mark, we'll get
(17:40):
to other phone callers. Our guy Mike has been as
consistent as they come since I can remember starting this show. Obviously,
the show happens because of listeners. Mike, what's going on?
Speaker 7 (17:50):
Well, I appreciate that, Tony. It goes both ways. Brother,
I appreciate you guys, and I know I can drive
you crazy sometimes and I apologize for that. I'm sure
thankful for the show, and hopefully guys get some more
years in there and keep hanging. I've been calling the
most since two thy ten, Wow, every day unless I
(18:12):
had surgery or lost part of my leg.
Speaker 10 (18:14):
Yeah, I have incredible, incredible, Well, I have no life.
Speaker 7 (18:19):
But you know, once my wife passed away, everything changed
and the kids grew.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Up and went away.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
So ports talk radio has been a big thing for me,
and I'm very grateful for it. So thanks you, guys,
and congratulations.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Thank you Mike.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
That's more important than anything because you're you know, you're
not superstars or you are here locally, but I mean
you just regular guys come in and do your job,
do good, and we're grateful for that.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I appreciate that, Thank you, Mike.
Speaker 7 (18:46):
I think our biggest problem with the REGs is you
give up eighteen runs and two games you're not gonna win.
I mean, that's just it. Yep, you can't give up
that many runs.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Especially when you look at how the other games played out. Yep.
All the other games highly contest. Uh, I agree. It
just they they didn't compete the way they needed to.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
No, and we were all so high on the starting pitching,
and Hunter just froze up for some reason, got stage fried.
I don't who knows why, just bad time to crap out.
And then yesterday they just jumped on it again. So
uh they the Dodgers did it. I'll tell you what, man.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
I liked the pop man.
Speaker 11 (19:23):
I kept waiting for Nanny to do something because I
was getting kind of hacked off at him. But he's
been doing it now for so long that I was
real happy he got he finally. That's the first clutch
hit i've seen him hit make all year. And I
know he's made something. I just haven't seen him. But
you could tell he was elated when.
Speaker 7 (19:41):
He hit that home run.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Correct.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
So, and that bullpen is scary, tony scary.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Doubt.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
I think it'll be a West Coast series. I think
it's going to be the Mariners and the UH and
the Pods and both teams good picking. What do you guys,
think I know the Philly is still hanging.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yeah, I don't know. The Phillies and the losses Zach
Wheeler are so big, and and the way the Dodgers
are hitting the ball right now, I'd have a hard
time believing anyone can beat them the way they swing.
And I like the Padres and what they can do
offensively if they can win today. But I'm with you,
there's something about the Mariners that I like. If not
the Mariners, I'd like to see the Blue Jays make
a run at it.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
Yeah, I would too, because they haven't done for he said.
The thing with San Diego is and you get to
that bullpen and it's pretty much over unless something crazy happens,
like they all have a bad day. That little left hander,
that Moore John, he's no joke either. I hadn't seen
him but a couple of times this year. He's special.
But you're right. All the games has been low scoring
and close and fun, except for the Red Series. You know,
(20:45):
our pitching crept out and we thought for sure that
would be the fourteen. Anyway, Thanks guys.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Thank you, thank you. I have a great day. That
to me, Austin at the very core of it, was
the most demoralizing. The conversation was if the red get in,
they can be dangerous because of their pitching. Hunter green
Tip is pitching. I don't know how that happens in
the playoffs, Hunter green Tipt, This pitches Nicolodolo through minimally.
(21:12):
Chase Burns pitched in garbage time. And the player that
represented you on the mound at the All Star Game
didn't even take the mound in the wild Card series.
Hard to understand all year we're talking about all year
was pitching is their chance.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
If you're going to choose not to spend as much
money as other teams, you have to make sure that
the rest of your operation is buttoned up. The Milwaukee
Brewers have a lower payroll than the Reds to the
number one seed of the National League. They have elite
advanced scouting, self scouting data, minor leagues, pitching, development, coaching,
(21:51):
all of it so that they can maximize the talent
that they've had. And you know, for the Reds to
go into a game on the road with their ace
on the mound and for him to be tipping pitches,
that tells me that your self scouting is not good enough.
Your advanced scouting is not good enough. You just you're
playing behind the eight ball.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
It's hard enough to beat the Dodgers without them knowing
what's coming. Yeah, and you know that sort of stuff.
You've got to be more buttoned up. And that set
the tone for the series. Yep, let's set the tone
now for the rest of the day. We will get
to your phone calls again here at the end of
the first hour. That that's important. I want to make
sure we get calls in today. Well, we've got a
(22:34):
really cool opportunity to talk to one of the biggest
names right now, and not just Cincinnati, but a name
that's sweeping college football. The quarterback of the Bearcats, Brendan Sorosby,
will join us next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
thanks to Skyline Chili.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
This is what it sounds like.
Speaker 12 (22:51):
This is Football in the Natti, brought to you by
Hey During Window Company on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
So Hermat Cincinnati Bengals, welcome back. It is Football in
the NATI on the Home of the Bengals, ESBN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station, Thanks again to our friends at Skyline Chile,
where anytime you're feeling good and hungry at skyline time.
Let's talk about Austin right now, the highest rated quarterback
(23:20):
as it relates to QBR in the country, offering one
of the best offenses in the country, coming off a
win against a very good Kansas team in a hostile environment,
and now returning to Knippert Stadium against the fourteenth ranked
Iowa State Cyclones. Brendan Soresby is joining us right now. Brendan,
what's going on, man?
Speaker 1 (23:39):
What's going on? Thanks for having me absolutely.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
How you doing, man? How's the week going? You come
off a big win against Kansas, you know better than anyone.
You get to enjoy it for a few minutes and
then you're on to Iowa State. What's the last couple
of days been like?
Speaker 1 (23:54):
A lot of recovery. Body was a little banged up
right after the game. You know, traveling after a win
is definitely a lot better. So that was a fun experience.
Speaker 13 (24:04):
And then you know, once we got back, just making
sure we got our bodies right ready to go for
our Tuesday practice.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
So the preparation has been good.
Speaker 13 (24:12):
Everybody focused, everybody blocked in and ready to go on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
How big of a weight, does it lift off the shoulders,
because you guys have been very competitive and there have
been times where it's just come up a player too
short to get the ball back laid against Kansas to
play as efficiently as you guys did offensively, you didn't
have Joe Royer in the second half defensively, no Dante
Corleone in the game to get that ball back, go
(24:36):
down and finish that off. How much momentum does that
now build for a team?
Speaker 13 (24:41):
Well, I know, just like you know the fans have
gone through it with the on score ball game is
not going our way, I trust me. You know as
a player that whenever you're on the losing side of those,
you start to lose confidence. And you know we were
finally on the right side of one of those and
came out victorious. So you know, being able to carry
that momentum going for will be for us.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
Knowing that we can do it, knowing that we.
Speaker 13 (25:02):
Can win those close games and go close it out,
you know, and just playing playing a complimentary football on
all three phases. You know, that was a really good
offensive team over there in Kansas, and you know, we
knew that they were going to be able to score
points just you know they do they do on everybody.
So you know, our defense bailed us out whenever they
needed to, and you know, we were able to.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Put some drives together and put points on the board,
and at the end of the day, we won.
Speaker 13 (25:25):
So we got to find a way to carry this
into this week right here and find a way to
go bet a competitive team, and IOWA stayed really good
coach team and you know, obviously top fifteen team in
the country.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
I thought about two thousand and nine a game that
I played against Pittsburgh. We're down, we get the ball late,
and before taking the field, nothing was ever really said,
but you could just tell and looking in the guy's
eyes there was a confidence that you were going to
go down and win the game. You guys got the
ball back down thirty four to thirty with a minute
forty five left. You go on a ten play drive.
(25:56):
Take me to the sideline. Before the drive started, Was
there anything that needed to be said or did you
guys kind of know what was ahead of end what
needed to be done.
Speaker 13 (26:04):
You know, everybody understood what needed to be done. Obviously,
you know, we're dapping each other up saying, you know,
we we got this.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
We know what we're gonna do. We know we're gonna
go put it in the end zone.
Speaker 14 (26:14):
And you know that was that I.
Speaker 13 (26:15):
Don't think I don't ever think there was too much
you know, disbelief from anybody on that sideline.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
I think everybody understood.
Speaker 13 (26:21):
That we were going to do.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Whatever it took to put it in the end zone.
And everybody knows how hard it.
Speaker 13 (26:26):
Is to go do that, especially when the defense knows
you have to score a touchdown. And we still had
some adverse situations that drive you know, obviously the illegal
touching and you know, just just a couple of other
things that went against us, but you know, we found
a way to persevere and.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Go punch it in the end zone. And I think
that's just a testament to this group of guys that
we have.
Speaker 13 (26:46):
You know, everybody's got a common belief in the in
a common goal that we want to go. We want
to go win some ball games this year, and we
knew what it was going to take, and we did it.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
I want to get to your your offensive line in
just a moment, but talk about the receiving corps. I
know Joe Royer didn't in the second half, but he
had a huge third and long grab for twenty yards
that kept the drive alive. We've seen Jeff Codwell, Noah
Jennings with the one handed catch, Gavin Grover almost getting
to the end zone getting stopped a few inches short,
Caleb Goodie, Cyrus Allen with the career day. How fun
(27:16):
is it now that you've got these guys in the system,
you can see their confidence growing. How fun is it
to be able to spread the ball around to your
receiving core.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, it's a blast. You know, it makes my life easy.
It makes my job, you.
Speaker 13 (27:28):
Know, fun for sure, to just be able to go
out there and say, hey, you know, let these guys
will make plays and you know they make me look
a lot better than I am. So just finding a
way to get these guys the ball, and like you said,
Grover stepping up whenever.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
Joe went down.
Speaker 13 (27:42):
After Joe made an amazing catch on third down. You know,
we'll be able to get Joe back this week. And
I believe he's the best tide end of the country,
So that's huge for us. So, you know, just the
ability of guys to step up whenever we need them
to and just make plays is huge for us.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
And having confidence and you know, eight guys.
Speaker 13 (28:01):
To go out there and catch a pass for you
is huge for sure. So we're really excited about this
group of guys that we have, you know, out wide
for us and you know, a tight end especially so.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
We've been saying it.
Speaker 13 (28:11):
For a long time, but people think I always give
the quarterback answer. I was telling the media on Tuesday
that you know, I believe in all of our guys,
but I truly do, and you know, I'm willing to
throw to whoever because at.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
The end of the day, I know they're gonna make
a play for me.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
I look at your guys backfield, and whether it's Tyler
Walker or Evan Pryor, I just can't imagine a defense
having to negotiate who's getting the ball, because, make no
mistake about it, Walker doesn't want to run around you.
He wants to run through you. That's demoralizing for a
corner or a secondary player coming up to make a
tackle and then all of a sudden, Evan Pryor's got
(28:44):
the ability to bounce one or to make you miss
and then take one the distance you've got the ability
to run. How much does it put on a defense though,
when you've got that that tower and the speed that
can hit in the backfield on any given day, yeah,
I mean, it.
Speaker 13 (28:59):
Puts a ton of stress on you and especially you know,
like you said, I am able to move a little bit,
which makes it harder on the defense back to account
for me. And then it gives our guys, you know,
one less body to have to worry about, hopefully if
I can take somebody away in the run game, and
you know, our guys do a really good job and
one on one situations and making people miss, running through.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
People, whatever that may be.
Speaker 13 (29:18):
So just I think, I think, especially in our backfload
right now, we have a ton of different different threats
and stuff that we present. Like you just said, tell
we's a little bit more power back, but he can
shake you.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Evans more of a home run hitter.
Speaker 13 (29:32):
And then I don't even know what you want to
call me, but I can run a little bit.
Speaker 14 (29:36):
So that definitely helped now.
Speaker 13 (29:39):
And then just the past game obviously being explosive right
now is helping the run.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Game as well. So if we can keep that going,
I think we're going to be a really tough offense
to stop.
Speaker 13 (29:46):
It's just up to us to continue to execute and
make sure that we're we're on our p's and q's.
Speaker 15 (29:52):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
The first giving up of the season happened against Kansas.
I thought it was just the right play call at
the right time for Kansas. They brought a pressure and
you guys were running. A little play action makes it
a little bit tougher to block. But uh, the offensive
line up front. You look at your running numbers, you
look at the passing game numbers, you look at your
ability to stay clean at times in the pocket. How
how important is that group up front, Ben.
Speaker 13 (30:15):
I mean, they've been They've been a huge help for
us this year, especially you know in the past came in.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
The wrong game.
Speaker 13 (30:21):
You know, they've been doing a really good job of
blocking for the run and then they've been doing an
excellent job of walking and protecting.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
For the past. That one sack is is very unfortunate because,
like you.
Speaker 13 (30:32):
Know, on a little boot leg like that, the old
line really doesn't have anything.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
To do with it. So that was unfortunate.
Speaker 13 (30:38):
I was I was trying to do everything I could
to throw it away on you know, avoid that sack,
especially for the big guy's sake. But you know, they're
playing really well up front, and gouldn't be happier for
that group. I love that group of guys, and you know,
I hope they continue to love me and protect me
throughout the rest of the season. I'm gonna try to
take care of them as much as possible because they're
putting their bodies in the line.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Every player.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Well, as long as you keep getting to these steak dinners,
I think they're gonna they're going to take care of
You said earlier in the week that after wins, you're
taking the offensive lineman to Jeff Ruby's. Is that right?
Speaker 1 (31:06):
I take them there. I try to take them there
after every win. You know, obviously Jeff Ruby's.
Speaker 13 (31:11):
Is a very top spot in Cincinnati, so it's kind
of tough to get reservations, but they usually look us up.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
So are you were talking just the starting five linemen
or any lineman that plays in the game. How how
do you decide who gets to go?
Speaker 13 (31:26):
Usually it's it's any lineman that plays in the game.
So after no after Northwestern Day, we had to make
some adjustments.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
We had boys. I don't know, I don't know about
this one.
Speaker 13 (31:35):
But no, it was, Uh, it's usually any lineman that
plays in the game, and you know, we try to
make sure that they're taken care of because they're doing
a heck of a job up for sure.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
They're pushing for those those heavy linemen sets. Then they
want to they want to get six to seven linemen
in the game.
Speaker 13 (31:50):
Yeah, No, they're they're trying. They're trying to coach. Carbo
keeps trying to throw other guys in there.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
I'm like, hey, we don't. We don't need to keep
doing this throwing them.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
God, So before I let you go, the way you've
adapted to Scott's sadderfield system, I know that's a big
part of what you guys are able to do. Tell
me a little bit about Iowa State and some of
the challenges that they do possess on the defensive side
of the ball for Saturday.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, they're really talented and they play really hard.
Speaker 13 (32:19):
So you know, we got to be we got to
be able to exec you for sure, and just make
sure that our attention to detail is really sharp, because
you know, these guys are are obviously top fifteen for
a reason, So you know, we got to go out
there and do what we do. We got to make
sure we're disciplined, and like you said, my second year
in the system, I feel a lot more confident. I
(32:41):
feel like coach Sadderfield's a lot more confident me and
this group. So, you know, we just got to find
a way to keep keep the chains moving and find
a way to put points on the board.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
You know, luckily, we're able to go.
Speaker 13 (32:50):
Against this type of defense every day in practice, So
we just got to go out there and do what
we do and I think will be good from.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Having the chance to play at UC and watching what
you're able to do right now, there's a great sense
of pride I take in watching how you guys are operating,
how you're going about your business. Good luck again this Saturday.
Keep this thing rolling. I know the city is electric.
Everyone I talk to right now is talking about U
see Bearcat football. Enjoy that moment, and we can't thank
you enough for the time today.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Yes, sir, I appreciate you having me.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Yes, sir, that is Brendan Soaresby, the quarterback of the
Cincinnati Bearcats, nice enough to join us here on game
week Austin. I am every time I get the chance
to talk to him, I'm blown away on how mature
he sounds. Yeah, you would think that's a fifth year
senior winding down his college career. He's still young when
it comes to his time on the field. But I
(33:42):
want to see how I can get maybe on the
the call for those Rubies dinners. Well, they're going to
ask you to pay. No, No, you're the Hall of Famer. No, no,
I'm not in that. Nil, i'l world. It would be
on you to pay. As the Hall of Famer.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
I'll work on the reservation. Oh, if I can get
the seat at the table. You have to pay for
yourself though, is that all right?
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Well, whatever we'll talk about. I mean, if I'm a
tight end, I'm like, hey, I'm essentially alignment here, right, Yeah,
I'm an extension here. Look at that block I had.
But man, he is mature beyond his years, and he's
got that offense playing at a really really high level.
Big opportunity Saturday at Knippert Stadium for the Bearcats taking
on Iowa State, a noon kick. This is since he
(34:25):
three to sixty. The eight year anniversary show. Yeah, we'll
wind down our number one with some more on the
Reds and another phone call or too on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks to Skyline Chili.
Speaker 12 (34:39):
You've been listening to Football in the NATI on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Done in the Inn.
Speaker 16 (34:51):
Now getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
How could we talk about the eighth anniversary of Sincey
three to sixty without our good friend Jeff Henry and
Angel Ridge on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Eight
years of waiting for album number two to draw eight years,
I have a feeling it's not coming. Shut out to
(35:24):
Jeff Henry Sincy three sixty. We'll get back to some
Reds in just a few moments. John Shearon is coming
up from it his e Sports at one o'clock to
talk Bengals. You want to talk about a way to
celebrate eight years. Let's talk red season ending in the
Bengals current state of affairs right now? You see goodness
for Brendan Soresby.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Today and maybe joy or hope. I just started to
say hope and enjoy at the same time and said.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Hoy lead us, John. Take a couple of phone calls.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
John was suffering with the rest of us through that
Red game last night.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Poor guy, I know it. Mark, what's happening, man?
Speaker 14 (36:00):
Yeah, I just called in to talk about that game
last night. I thought he left. I thought he left
that picture in in and too long. I thought I
would never say this about him, but the way he
managed that that pitching staff, going all the way back
to the Milwaukee series where you you didn't see Abbot
(36:24):
in game one or two, because I think it's Green
and Abbot, not Green and Lodolo. I think the dolo
is the third picture that you would have counted on.
And that lineup I thought. I didn't think he set
that lineup up right last night. I would have had
steered back in the middle of that lineup somewhere that
(36:46):
basis loaded situation that came up, you know, instead of
bringing Andrew har off the bench, I probably would have
either started him or Benson yep, and I would have
had that south a guy at third base.
Speaker 17 (37:01):
Man.
Speaker 14 (37:01):
Forget about Hayes and his defense. You needed, you need
to score all the runs you could. I just I mean,
I complained about managers and coaches a lot, as you
can see, but last night was an example of it.
I don't think he even with that game was three
to two. I still thought they had a chance if
(37:23):
they brought in if they brought in one of those
other one of those other guys, if you if you
could have kept it that three to two, I thought
they had a chance.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
I mean, when the bases were loaded and nobody was out,
you had three four and five Hayes, Stewart, dal La
Cruz coming up like you can't ask for anything more
than that.
Speaker 14 (37:43):
Yeah, that was a great situation. But all Austin Hayes
does is with men on base, he tries to pull everything,
so you know he's gonna ground out the third or
short and then Stewart h I mean, you know, he
swung out a couple of bad pitches and then Ellie.
(38:05):
I would have never had Ellie Batten in that spot.
I would have had him that in second. And you know,
I would have wanted to see Steer in one of
them spots, or the Andrew Hard guy and one of
them spots, you know, in that situation, but that he
didn't set the lineup up that way. So the guys
that were hitting in that spot had to get the
(38:26):
job done and they and they just didn't. But I
just looked at the season as there were some good
things to take away. I think they found a leadoff hitter,
you know, and they were consistent about Batton freedom leadoff,
and I thought that was a good thing. I think
Pegan did a good job as a closer, being that
(38:49):
you coming into the season, he wasn't expected to be
the closer, and I think for the most part he
did a good job, except for when he had to
face the other team's middle of the lineup. Uh. So
that there was some uh those were a couple of
good things over the season that kind of stood after me.
(39:09):
But you know, what they really needed was a you know,
a bad in the middle of the lineup that the
organization still don't believe they need. So uh. I just overall,
I just thought they just had an average season. I mean,
eighty wins didn't used to get you in the playoffs, right,
I mean so, and then the Mets kind of collapsed.
(39:32):
So so that's I mean, that's all I could really
say about the season. But I'll take Frank Coner as
a manager over David Bell any day of the week.
But there was some there was some times where I
kind of questioned some of his decisions. But you know,
gotta see what see what happens next year. So to
(39:55):
the rest of the show.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Thank you, Mark, I appreciate that. Yeah. Also, I didn't
expect to be questioning as much from Francona going into
the year as I ended up doing throughout the year.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
I think the thing about Francona is he marries gut
with analytics. If you remember when he was brought to Boston,
the idea around hiring him was he embraced analytics more,
and I think over the course of his career he's
(40:27):
done a really good job of balancing his gut and
the analytics. He also has had some really really good
players in Cleveland and in Boston, especially pitchers Kurt Shilling,
Pedro Martinez, Shane Bieber, Corey Klueber, and then other guys
(40:49):
like Big Poppy Manny Jose Ramirez, like great, great players.
And when you don't have as much talent, and the
Reds don't have as much talent as those Cleveland and
Boston teams that he had, I think you have to
be a little bit more leaning on the analytics.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Yeah, I mean, I there was a point yesterday Austin
that I was even thinking to myself, I know, he's
not been great late. Marte was a catalyst down the
stretch for this team, and he didn't start last night.
Speaker 5 (41:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
Instead it was Austin Hayes who just got back from
being banged up and wasn't available for you a couple
of days ago. Yeah, Marte's not in the lineup. It
just it felt like a lot of moving pieces. But yeah.
The the decision to run lttel back out in the
fourth and not come back with Lodolo in the six,
to me is uh is unfathomable. Josh is calling him,
(41:42):
what's up, Josh Tony?
Speaker 5 (41:46):
How are you good?
Speaker 3 (41:46):
How are you good?
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (41:49):
Recent recent finder of the show. Loved the show.
Speaker 7 (41:52):
Congress in eight years.
Speaker 8 (41:54):
Hey, Austin, did you used to do a wrestling show
with Taren.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
No Rick.
Speaker 8 (42:01):
Hugino?
Speaker 7 (42:03):
Yeah, okay, well we need.
Speaker 8 (42:04):
To bring that dagg On thing back. No, but you
got your guys shows great. You guys have me saying
Mo who Aaron Rodgers might be looking for Mo, but
I'm not. I'm just kidding. I love that guy. Hey, listen, Uh,
I just want to talk about off season checkflist for
the Reds. I mean that the season is what it is.
(42:26):
You've got to feel like we're really close with the
young guys.
Speaker 7 (42:28):
We have.
Speaker 8 (42:31):
Obviously, you know number number one priorities to try to
get forward to come to town. Sure, some power baths,
maybe one more bullpen arm.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
You can never have enough arms.
Speaker 6 (42:45):
No, yeah, no never.
Speaker 8 (42:47):
I'm trying to get some some of those value signings.
I think one of you was talking about that the
other day. Just a veteran bat that can come in,
you know, and you know, in a pin hit situauation,
you know, somebody maybe on the later half of their career,
you know, because you don't have to do it within
the budget constraints of this team.
Speaker 4 (43:07):
But I say that's the typical move that they would make. Yep,
it's kind of where they are right now. Like an
Andrew Horr or an Austin Hayes. That's the type of
guy they would get.
Speaker 8 (43:16):
Are they going to be able to resign Andrew Harr?
Speaker 7 (43:19):
Do we know?
Speaker 4 (43:19):
I would say I would think they'll try to re
sign both of them. I'm assuming they'll just try to
run it back with the same group.
Speaker 8 (43:26):
Absolutely, absolutely, And as far as the Pengles go, that
this thing's over, you're not going to get the front
office to go get a quarterback, and it just looks
like at this point they're playing for a for a
good draft pick. My fear is I would like to
coaching staff to go, but my fear is he's going
to get a pass because Burrow got injured.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
Yeah. I think that's the one thing that that could
potentially save him. Josh, thank you for the call. We'll
talk about this morning. It's the one thing that I
think potentially could save him. But if they play in
the way they have over the next couple of games, Austin,
they have the next two, I don't think you can wait.
I don't think you can get through the season with
thirteen more games to go. I agree, Dan, real quick
before we get to John, what's up.
Speaker 18 (44:09):
Hey, Tony, thanks for the call, first time caller. Thank you,
and I wanted to let you Mo and Austin know
that you're my favorite sports talk show of all of
them during the day.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Well, thank you, Thanks Dan.
Speaker 18 (44:25):
Let's really really enjoy enjoy the subject and the way
you guys approach everything. Hey, I was calling in regards
to some positive news regarding the Bengals. Okay, I was
looking at PFF's top draft picks, possibly for next year,
twenty four out of the top forty people are on
(44:51):
both offense and defensive lines. You think we could use any.
Speaker 19 (44:55):
Of those people?
Speaker 3 (44:56):
All right? Now?
Speaker 4 (44:56):
We're talking, Dan, upgrade the trenches, is what you're saying, both.
Speaker 20 (45:01):
Sides out.
Speaker 18 (45:05):
And and I'm hoping we do. But the way things
go sometimes they teem to seem to depend on free
agents more than the draft picks. But then again, my
thought is, you know, when a team's going bad, real bad,
who's the first person they go after?
Speaker 5 (45:26):
Head coach?
Speaker 18 (45:28):
And I'm not sure if that's going to happen at
all because of what the gentleman said that he may
get a pass because of Joe's injury, But I don't
think that's a valid excuse. I think if they head
down the road like they're going now, you need to
change that culture right now, and you need to change
the culture starting with the head coach going right into
(45:50):
that clubhouse. But the one thing that bothers the heck
out of me out of all the talk about out
head coach players, whatever, we haven't heard one word from
Duke Tobin.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
Yep, Austin hit on that yesterday. That to me, Dan,
thank you so much for the phone call. We appreciate
we're up against the hour. Yeah, the Duke Tobin silence
is huge here, Austin, does the Joe Burrow injury give
Zach a free pass in your mind? Not what we think,
what the organization thinks. No, I don't think so either.
There's losing and being competitive, and there's losing like they
(46:28):
have the last two weeks. And when you lose like that, normally,
that's a sign that something needs to happen. From a
locker room point of view. John sheeron a is e

we suffered through Monday night football. Let's talk to him
about it when we come back. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati

It is. From AIDA's Z Sports covering the Cincinnati Bengals.
John Sheeran joining us right now. What's up, John?
Speaker 20 (47:37):
I don't know what happened Monday night, but I know
the Bearcats beat the Red hand Kansas on Saturday.
Speaker 22 (47:42):
So that's that's all I care about.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
Let's go, John, Sharon Ada's E Sports covering the Bearcats. Listen,
Scott c Adderfield the hero we didn't know we needed
in Cincinnati right now.
Speaker 20 (47:56):
I mean, I don't know if I want to go
that far, but you know what playing out of his
mind and I love to see it.
Speaker 22 (48:02):
I love to see UC quarterbacks thrive.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
That's what I'm about.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
If this thing unravels for the Bengals. John, how far
up is Scott Saderfield on the list to potentially replace
sack Tywe?
Speaker 20 (48:13):
He can rise from like four billion to three billion,
nine and ninety nine nine right.
Speaker 3 (48:18):
More time about moving up? I get what you're I'm
picking it up right now. It is a minus sixty
three point differential in a two game span, John, how
can things get better for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 20 (48:33):
The most important parts of the team play above their
pay grade.
Speaker 22 (48:37):
Or play above what they've been at right now.
Speaker 20 (48:39):
It's it's hard to manufacture any success when you have
basically nothing from your quarterback, basically nothing from the people
helping your quarterback. We were supposed to help your quarterback. We
knew that this defense was going to be weeks away
from potentially inching closer to average, and they flashed here
and there.
Speaker 1 (48:58):
But it's just they need to be the two.
Speaker 20 (49:01):
Thousand Ravens out there to complement this offense because they
can't do anything right. The offensive line is still very
much incomplete. You're still not getting any consistency from your
five starters. The best players in this offense aren't getting
the ball in a timely manner or in that position
where they can succeed. The quarterback, who is best attribute
(49:22):
has been accuracy. He doesn't look quite accurate, and they're
asking to make throws that you would probably only expect
Joe Burrow to make.
Speaker 5 (49:28):
So it is kind of mind.
Speaker 20 (49:30):
Boggling how the architects behind this offense apparently need more
time to manufacture production out of Jake grinding compared to
the last time that they've been through this. I don't
understand it, but that's kind of how they're in the situation.
They're not getting anything from their quarterback and the drop
off has been severely more extreme than we even thought.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
There are so many different avenues to take when talking
about the game on Monday night. I thought the lost
Monday was worse than the Minnesota Vikings lost because they
didn't turn the ball over. You could look to the
Minnesota game and just man, it's a fluke. Those type
of things sometimes happen. To get beat the way they
got beat in Denver and then to come back and
yesterday I hear Zach Taylor say that the words we
(50:11):
have a ton of unwavering confidence in Jake Browning. Do
you echo those sentiments? Do you right now have a
ton of confidence in Jake Browning? And do you think
the locker room has a ton of confidence in Jake Browning?
Speaker 20 (50:22):
Well, I have no incentive to lie, so obviously no, right,
I mean, there's no way you can have confidence in
Jake Browning right now. That doesn't mean that he's incapable
of playing somewhat something resembling winning football.
Speaker 22 (50:34):
We just haven't seen.
Speaker 20 (50:35):
It, and I think at this point you can assume
that whatever plan of just staying above water until Burrow
maybe comes back in December, it was probably far fetched
because you just can't rely on the consistency of someone
who's just not an established starter in this league, someone
who can't put together twelve quality games in the row.
It just can't be this bad, though, and that's what's
(50:57):
still kind of shocking. That he can't get into a
rhythm offensively, can't find his guys down the field, and it's.
Speaker 22 (51:05):
Just not been enough.
Speaker 20 (51:06):
So there's nothing to say that you have any confidence
in him just being what they need to be again.
Speaker 22 (51:13):
He could play well.
Speaker 20 (51:14):
Here and there in a handful of weeks, but in
terms of it being enough to keep this team competitive,
I don't know how you can have any confidence in that.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
I worry about the locker room. I worry about guys
listening to that and wondering how how do we have
that confidence. I wonder about guys like Jamar Chase and
T Higgins and to not get your catches and win games.
It's one thing to get blown out from back to
back weeks and not be a major part of what
your offense is doing, I imagine is frustrating. We talk
oftentimes about the word culture. How worrisome does the culture
(51:43):
become if we see another week of what we've seen
over the last two.
Speaker 22 (51:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (51:48):
I think everyone who's familiar with this team knows that
patience is just bacon to their identity, and they will
always give the people that they know, whether it's players
or coaches. There's probably more than enough time to prove
that they're not getting the job done. And I don't
think that's something that the players don't understand or haven't
seen before. In some ways, I think right now though,
(52:12):
because there was an expectation for this offense, regardless if
it was Browning or Burrow back there, to look anything
remotely better than this, that's what should expedite this process,
because again, it can't be understated how bad this offense
has been. Turnover to be damned in Week three against
the Vikings, right, what happened on Monday night, even against
the defense that does have a lot of talent. Dever,
(52:34):
it's just beyond inexcusable, and it's like you can't ignore
that for more than just a couple of weeks at
this point. So again, like Monday night was should have
been a watershed moment for the direction of the team,
and I think everyone can kind of see that the
direction is non positive. But we know that this team
will take more time than they probably should to make
(52:55):
decisions that all of us would probably.
Speaker 22 (52:57):
Have already made already. So I agree.
Speaker 20 (52:59):
I I think people in that locker room are noticing
what is happening, and it's only a matter of time
before you know, the conversations that we saw between Jamar
Chase and Zac Taylor that actually becomes contentions instead of
what was called to be productive.
Speaker 4 (53:12):
Rookie Jalen Rivers started on Monday against Denver. Zach Taylor
said he's going to start again Sunday against Detroit. What
did you see from him and how do you think
he's progressed to this point in the season.
Speaker 20 (53:23):
Yeah, I think he looks more natural at guard compared
to tackle. He remind you he was rotating both between
both spots in college, and he's never really had a
lot of foot quickness and agility as a pass protector.
Speaker 22 (53:36):
But I think even still.
Speaker 20 (53:38):
For a rookie, he plays very calm and there's going
to be some athletes that kind of get the best
of him and it can cross his face, and that
happened to him a couple of times. John Franklin Myers
is one to be more underrated defendive tackle of the league.
That was a pretty tough matchup for his first time,
so I didn't expect him to be perfect, and he
was definitely far from it, And especially with Mario's names
having arguably the worst game of his professional career next
(53:59):
to him, So it was a rough night for that
side of the offensive line. But I understand, you know,
giving him another shot, especially with the timing now with
Lucas Patrick still having one more week to go on
injury reserve, you give Rivers another chance to maybe play
at home, play a little bit more calm, in a
more calm environment, and see what he can do. Because
if he plays well, then you have the flexibility of
(54:21):
maybe giving Lucas Patrick another week's rest on injury reserve.
But if he doesn't, then you have that opportunity to
activate Patrick off the VR and then make another switch
along the offensive line. It really does think that Delvon
Reiser wasn't able to come in and bring you some
solidity to that spot. I wouldn't have expected him to
get benched this early for Ricking Rivers, but I think
they did see a lot that they liked in Rivers
in the preseason and they wanted to.
Speaker 22 (54:42):
Give to give him this chance to see what he
can do.
Speaker 20 (54:44):
So obviously it wasn't great on Monday night, but I
expect him to be a little bit better on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
The offensive line as a whole, we've discussed already throughout
the recent weeks. They're not a good run blocking group there,
I think soft. They're also not getting help. How difficult
is it to operate as an offensive lineman when you
are consistently snapping the ball with one second on the
play clock.
Speaker 20 (55:05):
Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised what happened on Monday doesn't
happen more Austin. Usually it's Miles Garrett that ends up
doing that when they play up in Cleveland. But you know,
Nick Bonito and Johnson Cooper are two really great edges
that can get under your pads and when you just
give them just a free pass, like, yeah, the ball
game snapped in zero seconds. It was nothing that wonder
Brown's junior and a marsms could really done in that
(55:26):
situation except also time to snap perfectly. So yeah, it's
the fact that it's even happening on punts. It's just
frankly and excusable. It's just a very consistent issue at
this point. I don't know why they can't have the
correct communication in their helmet and how this is an
every week sort of problem. But yeah, that was an
unfortunate moment for the offensive line. There was obviously much
worse situations than that. That was just kind of meaned
(55:47):
across the internet. But I mean, it's just this, this
is the NFL, Like we can't just blame it on
just playing on the road like this is you have
to do this a half of your schedule.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
It's just an excusable cam Taylor Brick played five snaps.
He was not taken out, dude injury. This is a
long list now of previous high draft picks that this
team has made that are just not panning out. How
worrisome is what you're seeing on the defensive side of
the ball, poor angles, poor tackling, the penalties. It doesn't
(56:15):
feel like it's getting better at this point. How concerning
does this become.
Speaker 20 (56:19):
Tailor Bridge specifically is disappointing because when he's playing at
his best, he's one of their better athletes, Like he's
a true four or three guy, and he brings a
lot of power as a tackler too, if he's not
playing with his head on straight like Josh Newton. Again,
I think there's value to him, but you saw like
as as soon as he came out too the field,
there was like a reverse that the Broncos had and
he took a bad angle and he doesn't have the
(56:39):
recovery speed to make up for it, and that was
one of the touchdowns that they gave up. It's tough
to see him do anything correctly right now. And when
they're relying on guys that just aren't athletically gifted like that,
like it's easy for offenses to kind of take advantage
and just find easy yardage in ways that the Bengals
offense can so tailor. Bridg specifically is disappointing because as
(57:00):
you're accepting an athletic disadvantage there.
Speaker 22 (57:03):
I think at linebacker you're.
Speaker 20 (57:05):
Starting to see more of you know, Bear Carter and
Demetrius Knife, and there's a lot of ups and downs
in that regard. It's just it's like, if they don't
get these turnovers on these opportunity opportunities, then it's not
much dissimilar to what it was last year, where it's
just hoping that, you know, you keep them at the
endine and they obviously couldn't do.
Speaker 22 (57:23):
That against Denver.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
Where do they go right now as a team, because
it doesn't get any easier with the Detroit Lions coming in,
and I have a hard time wondering and believing how
they're going to stop Detroit or or move the ball
against Detroit. What are you looking forward or what are
you looking for from this team as it pertains to
Sunday because it's easier to say, well, they need to win,
But the style in which they play right now, based
(57:49):
on the last two I think is so important. So
what will you be watching for the most on Sunday?
Speaker 20 (57:55):
Find a plan outside of these fifty fifty sideline balls
to get Jamar Chase and Teagans the ball, like moving
them around, find them some vaking seas across the middle
of the field. Tomar Chase was begging for the ball
on Monday and they couldn't get him.
Speaker 22 (58:09):
He's like, regardless, who's that quarterback.
Speaker 20 (58:12):
He should not average four point six yards for catch,
like that is your one hundred and sixty million dollars
player out there, And if he's not making an impact
and this defense can't be relied on to keep the
Lions probably under thirty points, you don't have a chance.
So you need to maximize. He needs to utilize the
players that are supposed to carry you to the promise.
(58:32):
And regardless if the quarterback is out there or not,
like that's that's up to the coaching staff man, that's
up to the guys who are putting this plan together
as we speak. And if you can't get them the ball,
if you can't generate anything remotely close to explosive plays
on offense, mind you, this team is the fewest explosive
plays going back to twenty twenty two. Like, if you
can't do that against the Lions team that while they
(58:53):
had a lot of brain drain on the coaching staff
still know how to utilize their players, there's no hope
for that.
Speaker 22 (58:58):
So it's entirely on the offensive side of the ball to.
Speaker 20 (59:01):
Manufacture any sort of thing that can just help them
out instead of just churning out any sort of rare
first down.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
I do wonder now at this point, John, going forward.
I thought yesterday there's kind of three ways that you
can take. You can, obviously, at some point here soon
become a seller and move on from pieces and try
to acquire draft capital or whatever else you want to
in return. There's the idea that you can go all
in and try to go sign a Russell Wilson or
(59:28):
any quarterback you want to throw up there, maybe someone
that can help this team, or you just keep things
status quo. I think status quo is the most dangerous
because I think that sends a wrong message to the
locker room. Much like we talked about with the confidence
in Jake Browning, what path would you recommend for the
Cincinnati Bengals going forward?
Speaker 22 (59:47):
I see both sides.
Speaker 20 (59:48):
I really do like I feel like it can't really
get worse at quarterback right now. And I say that
with all due respected Jack Running. But it's just been
an absolute futrid showing out there. You can't hide from back,
and you can't hide from the fact that there are
other options out there that are just more proven and
who are more capable as quarterbacks. And the whole reason
(01:00:09):
behind you know, keeping Browning for the past coup of years.
Is that he's been familiar with the system, he's familiar
with Burrow, and you trust him to just immediately take over.
If this is the result of that, if this is
the outcome of that process, the process is failed, and
that's just something that you have to look into the mirror.
So like, that's why you should be entertaining other options
of quarterback. But I also understand that this offensive line
(01:00:31):
is still terrible and the offense that they're running behind
this offense line is still not putting them in the
best position. So if you have another quarterback like Ruts
or Jamis who also can't necessarily create out of pressure
or create out of structure and avoid pressure like grinding,
sure can't. I can see why another quarterback here wouldn't
exactly thrive with what they're asking.
Speaker 5 (01:00:49):
Him to do.
Speaker 20 (01:00:50):
So it's a combination of a lot of things that
just aren't going well, and I understand why another quarterback
here wouldn't necessarily have any more success. But you can't
just say that the quarterback is not the problem here,
because clearly he's part of it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
John Sharon a is E Sports covering the Cincinnati Bengals,
it truly. Right now is a week to week season,
it feels like for the Cincinnati Bengals as they look
to erase what has been an abysmal two week stretch.
For all your coverage of the Bengals, John, and for
those to be able to follow along, what's the easiest
way to do so?
Speaker 20 (01:01:20):
Absolutely, guys sports dot Com backspyt Cincinnati. Eight is E
Sports Cincinnati on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok.
Speaker 22 (01:01:28):
Instagram, wherever you get your video content, we're there as well.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
Appreciate you John, as always phenomenal stuff. We'll talk again
next week.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Thanks boys.
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
There he is, John Sharon. Eight is E Sports for
now covering the Bengals. Maybe some Bearcats here in the future.
A lot of for nows out there in the world,
a lot of for nows. As for now, we celebrate
the eighth anniversary of Sincy three to sixty. That'll continue
with a part of the show that has made this
very special.
Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
Do we make it to a ninth I would hope so.
I don't know what the powers that be whatever say,
I don't really hear from them. One year from now,
are we doing this?
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
I hope so? I hope so too. One year from now,
What are we talking about if we're doing this Red season?
Is it's still going on?
Speaker 4 (01:02:14):
Oh yeah, okay, we'll be talking about who just won
in the wild card round and is coming to Cincinnati
to play the Reds. Bengals A four and oh? Who
had a first round by Bengals A four and oh yeah,
Bengals four and oh.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
Bear Cats coming off of college football playoff appearance now
looking to build on that appearance? Is this now?
Speaker 4 (01:02:33):
How can you have that mentality for the Bearcats but
not for the Reds.
Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Because the Bearcats are definitely tied for the lead in
the Big Twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
You said you're you like you just celebrated an appearance. No,
I didn't celebrate an appearance. That's what it sounded like. No, no, no, no,
no no no. I said they're coming off of a
playoff appearance, but.
Speaker 5 (01:02:55):
They want more.
Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
You would be happy with that? No, I think you would.
We want more? Would you be happy if they made
the college football Playoff and lost in the first round?
Depends what they play? If it's Ohio State, to know,
I'm not happy because I want blood. Your talkback's next
(01:03:16):
since three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.
Thanks to our friends at Cincy Shirts.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Now since three sixty here every show at ESPN fifteen

Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
It's that templest.
Speaker 23 (01:03:34):
Us then and down clean in.
Speaker 5 (01:03:40):
A spring goes.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
I wish that temple to best.
Speaker 18 (01:03:45):
It's our favorite part of sin Sory three sex stay.
Speaker 5 (01:03:51):
Stay well, you played.
Speaker 23 (01:03:53):
At theacks on your screen and try not to sanitize it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
Welcome back, thanks to our friends at Cinty Shirts. We'll
give away Sincy Shirts gift card tomorrow to the best talkbacker.
We thank Cincy Shirts as we do Skyline Chili, and
as we do all of our talkbackers who continue to
make this a ton of fun.
Speaker 23 (01:04:14):
Well, Admiral ya'm a moto brought in to Fleet and
sank to Red's October and at the end they were
celebrateing with Sasaki. Oh man, you know things you're bad
during the forefeitning when your eight year old looking at
you and says, you know, I'm losing confidence in the
reds out of mouths of babes and does anyone else
think that? Tito says here for the sun Flyer season
a paycheck.
Speaker 24 (01:04:32):
M all right, man, man, mm mmmmm man, that might
be the worst coaching I've ever witnessed.
Speaker 22 (01:04:41):
In my entire life.
Speaker 24 (01:04:43):
How do you pull your second best pitcher after an
inning in two thirds when he's only giving up one hit?
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
Tough?
Speaker 24 (01:04:51):
And who in the hell sends a pinch hitter up
there with one ball and two strikes cold? He doesn't
even get a chance to time the picture up before
he's already struck out.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
Yeah, remarkable, literally remarkable. Last night, could not believe it.
Speaker 25 (01:05:13):
Well, the cockroaches finally found the roach motel out there
at the Hotel California. Looked to me like they were
all pressing too much. I think just about everybody had
a hand in those two losses.
Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
Young team pressing too hard.
Speaker 25 (01:05:29):
Oh well, hey, can we go get the big bopper
from Middletown please?
Speaker 22 (01:05:34):
What's his name?
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 25 (01:05:36):
That that that got to hit dangers from Middletown.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Reds?
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
Where do we need to do this right now?
Speaker 4 (01:05:45):
Let's just get it out now. Are not going to
sign Kyle Schwarber. Kyle Schwarber will not take a hometown
discount to play for the Reds, even though he's from Middletown.
Even if he did offer them a hometown discount, they
wouldn't pay that much. Nope, it's not going to happen.
Speaker 15 (01:06:05):
Nope, Tony Tonell and a Greek sauce as you go
out to the silverton big al look Tony last night.
I think it comes down to is the Dodgers are
just a bad matchup for the Reds.
Speaker 5 (01:06:16):
That's really what it was.
Speaker 15 (01:06:18):
And so with that being said, my sports fandom for
this fall comes down to one man's shoulders and as
mister Scott Sadderfield, which is just me chills on the
back of my neck thinking about it.
Speaker 26 (01:06:30):
Man, I need to get into something different.
Speaker 27 (01:06:31):
Sports are just not it.
Speaker 15 (01:06:32):
Maybe I'll start watching Dancing with the Stars or something.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
I saw there was like a big doubleheader basically for
Dancing with the Stars in the Reds game at the
same time.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
Really, I saw a.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Lot of people going dual screen action, really, which I
didn't know.
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Dancing with the Stars was still a thing, right that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:49):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (01:06:50):
Survivor American Idol? American Idol been around for forty years.
Speaker 23 (01:06:56):
Boy, I can't get over people just absolutely losing it today.
Speaker 5 (01:07:01):
The things are saying the way they're acting.
Speaker 23 (01:07:04):
I mean, come on, folks, one of the people's sky
I ain't say one babble head.
Speaker 22 (01:07:07):
They mean one babble head.
Speaker 5 (01:07:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 21 (01:07:10):
I want to thank the Reds players and Tito for
a good season.
Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
I was entertained.
Speaker 21 (01:07:15):
I was also surprised by my mad reaction last night
towards the end of the game because of the two
run lead and the hopium in that also didn't like
all the celebrity shots on TV. Just made me feel
small and unworthy. But good season all around, Okay, good job.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Happy, How you playing Los Angeles? Sorry you feel that way.
Speaker 28 (01:07:42):
Hey fellas, it's Benny.
Speaker 29 (01:07:43):
I need a favor.
Speaker 30 (01:07:44):
I need to use my thirty seconds of airwave freedom
to call out one Marty Brenahan. Marty Brenahan has been
using his silly little show with Tracy Jones to give
us propaganda about Terrible Francona for a year.
Speaker 5 (01:07:58):
Marty, I won a special show.
Speaker 30 (01:08:00):
Dust off the mics and come on and apologize to
the Cincinnati people about how wrong you've been about terrible
Frank Cono. Will you do it?
Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
Is his new name, terrible, Terrible Terrible. I thought for
a moment last night it was Terry the Magnificent Again.
Speaker 31 (01:08:19):
I did toa hello, this is former President Ronald Reagan
and well three D chess move by Terry Francona by
saving Andrew Abbott for Game three and Nick Lodolo for
a potential Game four. Yeah, but seriously, folks, that's like
Zach Taylor having two timeouts in his pocket as he
watches the game clock run out while the Bengals are
(01:08:40):
attempting a fourth quarter comeback drive.
Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
Good point.
Speaker 31 (01:08:44):
I think I'm gonna go now and make some interest
payments on a loan I've not taken out.
Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Good point.
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
I still can't believe Nick Martinez came in in the sixth.
Speaker 28 (01:08:52):
Nope, that was the guy guys Big Cahoon in Kentucky.
Speaker 22 (01:08:56):
I think to fix the Bengals you have to trade
a four.
Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
For We're not doing speaking of this, were going to
say standers on Nick Martinez. There was a point in
that Otania bat where I knew watching and I know
Otani knew it, and I think Martinez did that. He
didn't possess a pitch that was going to get him out.
Speaker 26 (01:09:13):
Correct that the Reds couldn't pitch Abbot last night, and
we had to go with Littel. Why aren't we pitching
Lttel three innings? Nick Lodolo another three innings yep. And
Chase Burns three innings.
Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
Yep. I know that's frowned upon. But do or die
go home, go home, Yep, yep, yep.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
Play to win in two games, Emelio Pegan, Nick Lodolo,
Chase Burns Andrew Abbott combined for twenty seven pitches in
a two game series in which the Reds gave up
eighteen runs.
Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
Yep. Make it make sense.
Speaker 32 (01:09:56):
That was more of a Lewis and corking at sampagne bottled.
He has to be an emotionally sports figure and losing
Cincinnati streak folklore.
Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
What plus you think it'd be easier.
Speaker 32 (01:10:09):
To win one baseball playoff game than one NFL one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
They've always sounds like he's struggling.
Speaker 33 (01:10:17):
Repping the city out here and not so sunny hot
and what up Tony?
Speaker 14 (01:10:21):
What up?
Speaker 3 (01:10:21):
Body?
Speaker 33 (01:10:23):
The day in life of a Cincinnat sports fan. Man,
it stinks, especially on National TV. I come to work
getting made fun of it. Just what it is, the
lovable losers of sports, from red to the Bengals to
the Bearcats. Just embarrassing on national TV. I still love
my city, still love my sports teams. I'm going down
with the ship. This is how it is being a
(01:10:44):
sports fan of Cincinnati, straight jokes.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
How do we get from where we are to where
we want to be?
Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
That's substantia.
Speaker 29 (01:10:55):
I hate sports.
Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
Hey, I.
Speaker 18 (01:11:01):
Cannot stand anything that has to do anything with sports.
Speaker 34 (01:11:07):
I hate the team concept.
Speaker 5 (01:11:10):
I hate sports radio.
Speaker 35 (01:11:12):
I hate everything about spark It kills me.
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
I hate dark.
Speaker 36 (01:11:22):
Why is it when the Reds make the playoffs and
don't win, it's an unsuccessful season. However, when the Bengals
do it, it's called a successful season according to you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
The media people who said that.
Speaker 36 (01:11:33):
I don't understand the hypocrisy who said. I know that
you guys favor the Bengals a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
Than who said that, which is kind of sad crazy.
Speaker 36 (01:11:40):
I think you guys should be fair to both. It
seems like you criticize the Reds more than you do
the Bengals, and the way the Bengals are playing, you
need to criticize.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Them a lot more. I would love to hear when
I have said anything about getting to the postseason and
not winning anything was the success? Correct? Those words have
never come out of my mouth. And I just can't
iterate enough that there's not many eight to nine times
where the Bengals will make the playoffs. I felt like
the Reds this year were that eighty three wins, forty
(01:12:09):
and forty over the last eighty to do that and
then get swept the way they did.
Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
And the Bengals do at least try, I think harder
than the Reds to win. I think the Bengals are
more are more in an aggressive pursuit of a championship
than the Reds, and I could, at least over the
last time. I think I could, at least over the
last five years, see and understand the vision that the
(01:12:35):
Bengals were building. Yeah, and we have criticized them heavily
because they have failed to build around Joe Burt.
Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
But they have tried. But they have tried, and.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
Mike, the Bengals have gotten to the playoffs and won
multiple playoff games. The Bengals are five and two in
the playoffs since twenty twenty one, five and two. The
Reds haven't won a single playoff game in thirteen years.
They have not advanced in the postseason in over thirty
(01:13:07):
It is the strongest drought of any North American sports
team not to advance in the postseason. So they do
play under a different set of rules because they are
an organization of failure for three decades.
Speaker 37 (01:13:22):
Correct been a little quiet on the Ken and Marcus
front this week. Will this be the year that the
Kentucky Wildcats go down to Athens, Georgia and actually keep
it respectable?
Speaker 3 (01:13:34):
Oh? Whoa that's talking about I'll.
Speaker 38 (01:13:38):
Never understand why the whole city of Cincinnati is just
okay with mediocrity from the local ball club. I mean,
this is one of the most historic franchises in baseballs,
a big red machine, wired wired champion. I mean, we
should be expecting a lot more and we have just
sunk to being mediocre is fine. That's like being the
smartest kid in the stupid being stoked like at what yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
Well said?
Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
I have gotten some tweets from people, this one guy Joe,
he's a big Phillies fan. He said, you can't go
that long without a playoff appearance and think World Series
are bust right away? Why Why can't I? Why I
didn't say that point? But why can't I? What's the point?
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Did you see?
Speaker 4 (01:14:22):
Mookie Betts with Scott Van Pelt last night said it
was neat that the Reds got into the playoffs. There
was another Dodgers fan that tweeted at me that said,
you guys aren't even close to being competitive. Just take
this step and and and build on it. Oh yeah,
that's fun, you see that. That's like being patted on
them on the head and being told, oh mo, that's
(01:14:45):
how people think of this organization. They are an afterthought.
They are irrelevant. They are so far from contending and
so far from being that once proud historical franchise. The
Cincinnati Reads mean nothing to anybody in the United in
States of America outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. And that is
(01:15:05):
a shame for how far this organization has fallen.
Speaker 39 (01:15:08):
He Hello is Russell Wilson there? Oh hi, Russell Wilson.
This is ed Than from even Dale, Ohio. Will you
please come to Cincinnati and be our quarterback?
Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
What's really weird about this talkback is that it was
left at the exact same time as this talkback.
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
Hello, Hello, Wow, this is that on even Dale.
Speaker 18 (01:15:38):
Congratulations on twenty twenty eight years of since the six
point thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
I liked it better when it was an hour. That's
too much to follow.
Speaker 10 (01:15:54):
With three hours.
Speaker 34 (01:15:56):
Oh so my votes for going back one hour.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
I only listened for the traffic report right anyway, And
the good news with all of this, Evan, is that
you could just listen to the hour and then catch
up with the rest on the uh the radio app. Yeah,
and podcasts for I.
Speaker 4 (01:16:15):
Saw a list today of the one hundred best sports
podcast in Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
I didn't say sports, it was just the one hundred
Cincinnati one hundred best Cincinnati podcasts. Yeah you know it
was number one. Well, I'll tell you. I'll tell you
who didn't make this list in City Beat. You're dead
to me. You have always been a fan of feed Spot.
Oh yeah, that's where I go to get my information.
You need to buck out one hundred best Cincinnati podcast
on feed Spot and see what they have to say. Yep,
(01:16:41):
I love feed Spot. Yep. Shout out the feed Spot.
Speaker 19 (01:16:44):
Hey, Tony and Alston, it's Jimmy turn. The concerning the Bengals,
I just want to say it's probably time just to
rip this thing down to the STUFG. I think that
at this point you need to look for a new
coaching staff who probably wants to start with a quarterback
that they can rely on. As far as health, I
think you focus on the offensive line, getting each one
(01:17:04):
of those positions right, because if you can protect anything,
then I think any pro level quarterback can operate in all.
Speaker 4 (01:17:13):
Okay, he said, Jimmy from the G. What do we
think the G is? Glenn Ville, George.
Speaker 40 (01:17:20):
Do, the Reds, the Bengals, and a cow that can't
produce milk, Kevin Common.
Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
They're all utter failures for a milk judge.
Speaker 41 (01:17:32):
Hey, I know Tito's a Hall of Fame manager and
all those things, but I thought he mishandled Will Benson.
Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
I agree.
Speaker 41 (01:17:39):
I thought he mishandled Elie Da la Cruz in the
second half, So he's not above criticism. I'm glad he
got us to the playoffs, but I was expecting more
from him strategically.
Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
Yep.
Speaker 41 (01:17:52):
Hopefully next year we'll get it together and go for.
Speaker 4 (01:17:56):
With Francona's career, I think it becomes even more were
fair to question him because the expectations are a lot higher,
and he's seen a lot and he's done a lot,
and so when a guy like that makes decisions that
don't make sense, it very fair to criticize him because
we've seen him not make those mistakes.
Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
In the best He has to answer that as well.
Speaker 42 (01:18:17):
That's on eight years. Gentlemen, Tony, your opening question today
was exactly what we talk about, and that's if you're
a Rets fan, you're insane because every year you expect
different results, but this organization does the same exact thing.
And the result from this year, backing in with a
three wins means nothing will change in the offseason and
we'll go through it all again. Maybe in eight more
(01:18:39):
years we'll get another PLAIF appearance.
Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
My biggest fear Austin as this becomes well, we were
that close. We don't need many big changes.
Speaker 43 (01:18:47):
Hey, guys, Jeff new Richmond, a couple of points about
the Reds real quick. I would fire Chris fa Lake today.
I would hire a new hitting coach with major league success,
whether it be Joey Vado or Seaun Casey. I would
fire Nick Crawl today. I would bring in a new
GM whose number one directive from ownership is to sign
(01:19:10):
Kyle Schwarber this offseason.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Man improved of.
Speaker 43 (01:19:14):
The fan base that this is just not a one.
Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
We're on the Swarber train too much today, all right,
I do think we're gonna hear some here about some
changes to the Red's coaching staff. I think we're gonna
hear about that in the next couple of days. I
heard a great Joey Vado story last night. It was
from Dan Strayley. You remember him former picture.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
He said, They're all goofing around in the dugout one
day and Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips and they're all
laughing and Joey's kind of sitting there and he's not
making a sound. And Dan Strayley says, Joey, is that
not funny to you? And Joey just kind of looks
at him and says, not now, Daniel. I'm working.
Speaker 40 (01:19:51):
Hey, guys, Chris and Alexandria. Here Chris because I'm walking
down thirty two going back to the car place up
my car. Hey, I just want to say happy eighth anniversary.
My eighth anniversary to my wife was September seventeenth last month,
so right around the time the show started. I've been
(01:20:12):
listening a long time, maybe not eight years, but definitely
since it was a one hour deal. You guys are
doing great.
Speaker 14 (01:20:17):
Keep it up.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
As far as I'm concerned, you'd listen to us on
the wedding day.
Speaker 5 (01:20:21):
Yep.
Speaker 44 (01:20:22):
Yeah, I remember when since he three sixty debuted and
it was I think James Peene and Moegar and.
Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
I'm like, what is this crap?
Speaker 44 (01:20:29):
Because I was listening to Levatard and you guys took
away the last hour of that show. But then I
remember when Levatard took over for Colin Cowherd, and I
said the same thing, like, what is this crap? So
you guys do great job, keep it up, Always enjoy talkbacks.
Speaker 1 (01:20:44):
Show's funny.
Speaker 44 (01:20:45):
Always keeps me entertained out here working every day, keep going.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Well, thank you, we appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (01:20:56):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, that was nice. All right,
(01:21:18):
that was the first page of talkbacks. You know what's
crazy is I have a wedding anniversary on Sunday. Yours
my wedding anniversary. Yeah, this show has been in existence
longer than I've been married.
Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
How about that.
Speaker 34 (01:21:35):
Tone, Audie, what's going on? Congratulations on the eight years.
And I heard you guys talking about, you know, doing
a Sincy three sixty appreciation night. How about this? Since
the three sixty golf outing, let's go, let's go out,
hit the course, dump some beers.
Speaker 22 (01:21:53):
Who says no.
Speaker 3 (01:21:55):
I would love a Sincy three sixty golf outing.
Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
Yeah, I don't think.
Speaker 45 (01:22:03):
On Sunday that kind of through the rotation out of whack.
Congratulations on the eight years. Absolutely, I would give a
pinky finger to Sincy three sixty. If you can work
out the details the surgery, I would gladly do it.
All right, Oh, you guys have a great show.
Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
Let's see if we can start talking to a hospital
or and maybe get uh get your pinky on display
in the studio.
Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
That would be unbelievab. I would like that, I believe
is the first that would be Really, that's the first
gift we've been asked to be getted gifted.
Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
Oh, we did get a gift from John Michael and
he came in studio with us.
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Yes, but I'm talking about it for today, Oh today.
Speaker 46 (01:22:49):
Yeah, hey guys, Marcus from the groove, he Marcus Marcus.
I stand behind my comment yesterday Lettel had no business
being out there in a Nation game three days.
Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
It's the postseason. You have to live or die by
your guy.
Speaker 23 (01:23:05):
And for the people who keep saying will you throw abbit?
Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
Who do you throw?
Speaker 5 (01:23:09):
Game one?
Speaker 34 (01:23:10):
If you make it, Brady Singers looked pretty good.
Speaker 46 (01:23:13):
I think that was a horrible miss by Francona to
live and die by a fifth star if you got
to the deadline.
Speaker 47 (01:23:20):
Yep, Hey, this is Josh and Hebre and happy anniversary guys.
You guys are so awesome. You make me laugh every
time I listen to you. You try to be as
objective as you can possibly be. My interest in sports
has waned over the years, sorry to say, because all
(01:23:42):
of our teams suck, but I continue to listen to
you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
Thank you. Guys are awesome. I hope you have many
more years of doing this show. Peace. Appreciate that.
Speaker 48 (01:23:52):
Yeah, it was a great season for the retch just sat.
Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
Over the.
Speaker 48 (01:23:58):
Rotation, but I'll give him a break. He did make
a bunch of good decisions, and actually the front office
make some good decisions with the acquisitions since they made
it to trade deadline. Hopefully they may continue to make
some good ones into the off season and I think
they can take that next Go Reds and here's to
twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
Let's go maybe twenty twenty six is the year for
the Bengals, the Reds and since the three six.
Speaker 27 (01:24:24):
Hey Tony, Hey, Hey Jimmy, Hey Jimmy Claus.
Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
And hey happier Hey Jimmy.
Speaker 5 (01:24:31):
So glad to talk to you again. It's such a
long time, a great show. I appreciate Mike. I appreciate
Mike's call today.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
That was really good.
Speaker 40 (01:24:39):
So the best day ever radio was when the takeover,
when you're on the air, the normal Ray Pike takeover.
Speaker 5 (01:24:47):
Hey, let's get together soon.
Speaker 22 (01:24:48):
Man, we'll go Oudea, I got you Man.
Speaker 3 (01:24:51):
Yeah again, Thanks Jimmy. I'm a little I'm a little
lighter today at the statement.
Speaker 49 (01:24:57):
I think we've been way too differential to Francona. He's
made so many mistakes.
Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
Yeah, he's a Hall of fay Man.
Speaker 49 (01:25:04):
I have to take the gloves off. Second, Brendan Sowersby.
He's amazing. Fifth year senior Tony. He sounds more like
a veteran pro quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 49 (01:25:14):
I just hope Sadurfield doesn't blow it.
Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
Hey man, obvious week.
Speaker 50 (01:25:20):
To be anniversary to three sixty. I've only been around
for the last couple but happy to hear you guys
have hit your eight. I would be remissed if I
didn't mention a couple other anniversaries coming up.
Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
My daughter, first of all, twenty one tomorrow.
Speaker 50 (01:25:36):
Okay, in twenty days time, my grandparents will be celebrating
their sixty ninth wedding anniversary. Here's wishing you guys that
kind of lung jevity.
Speaker 4 (01:25:45):
Happy to be anniversary boys twenty first birthday on a
Friday in the fall.
Speaker 3 (01:25:49):
Boy I have had its sister.
Speaker 51 (01:25:50):
Oh boy, pull everyton, folks, I have been missing in action,
but actually can hear it from the noisey atmosphere robbing me.
I am in a taxi cab on my way to Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (01:26:04):
To cover the Cincinnati Bengals. I gots the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 51 (01:26:07):
I have been missing in action, so I'm looking forward
to see Joe Burrow and that he's most likely I
think four or no Bengals against the declining Detroit Lions
who lost both the coordinators and centa Tom every ten BBC.
Speaker 4 (01:26:20):
News loop, especially considering there's a game in London this week.
Speaker 3 (01:26:28):
He's gonna be surprised on Sunday.
Speaker 52 (01:26:31):
Hey, guys, it's reassuring when I hear you guys reciprocate
the same exact boss I had when I was watching
the game last night. Little should have been pulled a
third Will Benson being pulled in the middle of is
that bad.
Speaker 40 (01:26:45):
With disrespectful the player crazy?
Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
You know, just looking ahead to next year.
Speaker 52 (01:26:51):
South Stewart obviously is going to be probably making this roster,
right Can he just play first base in DH Police,
I mean he moves like Sean Casey.
Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
He can third.
Speaker 4 (01:27:03):
Put some respect on the case, of course, famously thrown
out from left field on a single one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
You got to put the respect on here, Hey.
Speaker 53 (01:27:09):
Tony Nas And I reach out to you guys on
Twitter about you know, just the precedent of Mike Brown.
You know, I know he let he let go Sam
White a few years after the Super Bowl. So what
what do you think would call in your guys spin
you what do you think would cause.
Speaker 5 (01:27:23):
Him to go down a similar.
Speaker 53 (01:27:25):
Path with uh with with Zach?
Speaker 5 (01:27:28):
So do you think it's just him losing the locker
room or what else? What other things you think are
at play?
Speaker 53 (01:27:33):
And do you think Burrow has a say in that
final decision?
Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
Sure, I would think Joe would be consulted. I would
think if they continue to get embarrassed, Zach will be fired.
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
I think at the end of the day, like you said,
if they play similar to what we've seen over the
last couple of weeks, you can't go thirteen more weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
Especially, I think this Thursday night game against Pittsburgh supposed
to be a wide out game, White Bengal National TV. Yep,
if they lay another egg, you got the mini buy.
Might be the time.
Speaker 54 (01:28:04):
Terry Frankena, no doubt about it, as we all know,
Hall of Fame manager. But there's no way around the
fact that Tito had a bad couple of days, bad
couple games. But you know it all started with that celebration.
You back into the playoffs, you get there because the
Mets have an epic collapse, you lose.
Speaker 4 (01:28:24):
No, no, it's had nothing to do with celebration. You're
allowed to celebrate making the playoffs.
Speaker 27 (01:28:30):
Good question for you both, Who do you believe will
be the first team in this decade to bring home
the hardware?
Speaker 1 (01:28:38):
With a bit of Bengals winning the Super Bowl?
Speaker 27 (01:28:40):
Will it be the Reds winning the World Series?
Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
Will it be f.
Speaker 27 (01:28:43):
C Cincinnati little bit the barecatch winning the National Championship?
Who do you believe will be the first team to
bring home the hardware to Cincinnati in this decade?
Speaker 3 (01:28:54):
As of right now, it feels to me like f
C cintiwni's Bengals.
Speaker 28 (01:29:02):
Hi, guys, it's bag. Congratulations on your eighth anniversary.
Speaker 3 (01:29:06):
Thank you.
Speaker 28 (01:29:07):
Eight is for Joe Morgan. Eight is for Jeff Blake
and I consider myself listener number seventy eight. My question
what happens with Joe burrows money as it relates to
the cap Do they just eat all that or do
they have some free cap space? Now, not that Mike
Brown would spend anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:29:26):
What do you talk? Thanks, let's see talking about I
don't know you're gonna get his money?
Speaker 17 (01:29:33):
Not really that concern guys about what's going on with
the Reds and the Bengals. We've been through this for
the past thirty years. I'm moving on to Neo's gentlemen's
gaming versus tea pains. Nappy Boy Grizzlies, go nappy boy, Grizzlies.
Speaker 3 (01:29:48):
Oh boy, oh boy, shout out man. We're done boys,

a couple of phone calls, we will gladly get those
in as well. From a football standpoint, let's keep it
very simple. Austin the Bengals has of right now, ahead
(01:30:55):
of tomorrow or ahead of Sunday, I should say our
listed is a ten and a half point underdog. Do
you see a path that they cover ten and a half?
Speaker 4 (01:31:05):
I have no basis for this, none, no data, no
statistic nothing. All I have, much like Terry Francona, is
a gut feeling, oh my, that the Bengals play well,
oh boy, on Sunday. Not well enough to win, but
(01:31:28):
well on Sunday. We'll talk more about that tomorrow at home.
Speaker 3 (01:31:34):

Tony having another great data on here in Derek cat Land,
you know, getting ready for basketball practice and you know
in two weeks we scrimmage Michigan up in ann Arbor.
So it's exciting times on campus, plus for playing Iowa
State on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
My big question for you, Bob, and you know, I
know we're gonna get to an injury point of view here,
but eight years ago today, the inception of Cincy three
sixty happened. It is our anniversary of Cincy three sixty today.
I just wanted to know from you, how has Cincy
three sixty changed your life? Great question.
Speaker 29 (01:33:59):
And unbelievable show. I have fun on it. I get
to listen.
Speaker 7 (01:34:03):
To it when I'm in the car.
Speaker 29 (01:34:06):
Some of your features, obviously I can't say your gambling
feature or your Picks of the week is my favorite,
only because I'm not allowed to participate. But some of
the callback responses that your people give are interesting. And
one of these days I'm going to leave a callback
and say something stupid like some of the other people.
Speaker 3 (01:34:28):
Do we thank you for that?
Speaker 45 (01:34:29):
Bob.
Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
What I want to ask you is you kind of
just alluded to it. People are so entrenched in football
season that's happening right now, that you kind of get
caught sometimes with how close the basketball season is. And
for some athletes that's the case when you start talking
about club sports or AAU while they're also also playing
for their high school team. When you start talking about
(01:34:52):
playing multiple sports that maybe cross over at once, where
is the line drawn? Because there are so many people
that say, play as many as much as you can,
because it's good for you. There's also that line that
we've talked about of making sure you allow your body
to rest. How do you walk that line when you
are trying to do two different things and juggle at once.
Speaker 29 (01:35:12):
That's a great question only because as you said, you know,
we're preaching now to parents and athletes alike that this
whole concept of specialization too early in their sports careers
is not good.
Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
Uh.
Speaker 29 (01:35:28):
These kids should be playing multiple sports. You know, basketball
players should be you know, participating in baseball, and baseball
should be participating in you know, track and field, et cetera.
And again, I think the whole concept of having these
athletes have specialized too early, And to me, the two
(01:35:49):
biggest groups that really abuse this are basketball and baseball.
I think too many parents, you know what, it's just
with their kids in one sport. And part of it is,
you know, it's easy, you know, I only have to
deal with one sport rather than trying to get my
kids around the gymnastics or swim and dive or soccer.
(01:36:11):
But the problem becomes you have to have a fine line.
I can let my kids play you know, summer soccer
and then come back and let them play football in
the fall, and then come back and let them play
you know, basketball in the spring or whatever, baseball in
the spring. I think if you need to let the
(01:36:32):
kids play multiple sports, but at the same time, it
goes the other way. I had a kid in the
other day who's playing you know, soccer this time of year,
she's playing volleyball at the same time, and you know
then she's going to go right back into basketball. Now
you're talking overload. You're talking about a fourteen, fifteen year
(01:36:54):
old kid who's trying to play three sports that all
overlap for about a month. And that's not good for
your body either.
Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
You know.
Speaker 29 (01:37:02):
It's like most high school kids, if they play football,
I have to take off a five day six day
period after football before they're allowed to play basketball. Or
if you're playing basketball in high school, you generally have
to have a four or five rest day period before
you're allowed to play baseball or you know, go on
(01:37:22):
to track and field. So but there are some sports
that are naturally i'll say aligned. So if I'm got
a football player and they're a skilled football player, my
old role at Comingy Catholic would be, well, let's run
track and field in the spring. Or if it were
a kid who is an offensive defensive lineman, maybe throw
(01:37:44):
shot or even wrestled in the offseason. Quarterbacks, you know,
let's go pitch in the spring. So that there's a
natural evolution of, you know, the sports that actually align
with each other. And I think that's the whole premise
of letting a kid play multiple sports. But if you
get a six, seven, eight year old and you say, okay,
(01:38:06):
we're gonna play basketball, then we're gonna play summer AAU.
Then we're gonna play elementary school, then we're gonna play
high school, and we're basketball, basketball, basketball. I don't recruit
a kid today, well I don't do the recruiting, but
I'm suck with him. I get players today that have
come to us in college and they've already had three
four injuries before they even get here, and most of
(01:38:27):
them occurred during AAU in the summer, more so than
any other time of year. So I think you had
that fine line where I want my kids to play
multiple sports. And my kids played soccer, they tried swimming,
they all played either hockey or football, so that you know,
they did a variety of things. And then by the
(01:38:48):
time they got to be a freshman in high school,
you know, I would then say, okay, let's focus on
winner two and one played hockey and one played baseball,
and the other ones played football, and maybe we did
a little track or wrestling activity, so we have to
sub We've got to let him have some freedom to
play with that getting too sub specialized too early.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
How important then if they are having that freedom to
play multiple sports and you're active and you're always on
the go, go go, How important do the things that
maybe young kids are overlooking, sleep, recovery, stretching. How important
do those things become to the athlete, and how important
it is for the parents or the guardians to be
able to look out for that and push that to
(01:39:31):
the kids as well.
Speaker 7 (01:39:34):
Well.
Speaker 29 (01:39:34):
Number One, recovery is way underperformed in this country. Recovery
is is just not done enough by the athletes, not
push enough, or you know, in most cases, you know,
unless you played at the collegiate level or played at
the professional level. You know, how does the average parent
know about recovery? You know, And the bottom line is,
(01:39:57):
like you know, using maybe contrast store, you know, getting
in the cold tubs after they play, or this country's
horrible when it comes to stretching. I would say if
you look at football, you look at college basketball, eighty
percent of the players have no clue even at that
level coming out of high schooler A and you how
(01:40:19):
to stretch.
Speaker 5 (01:40:20):
They're all tight.
Speaker 29 (01:40:21):
They don't spend enough time working their mobility. Mobility starts
at ain't nine ten years old, strengths training starts at
eight nine ten years old. And when I mean strength training,
I'm not talking about getting them in the wink room
and fron weight around, but simple things that like bandit
(01:40:41):
programming or working with somebody who might be a certified
strength coach who can get them into both mobility and
strength training and landing mechanics.
Speaker 7 (01:40:52):
People say to me all.
Speaker 29 (01:40:53):
The time, well one of these little girls fourteen, fifteen,
sixteen years old have so many injuries. Well think about it.
Let's say I sub specialized. I want to be a
soccer player or a lacrosse player. I play you know,
summer AAU programming, your ODP Olympic development programming. Then I
go right into high school. Then I come out and
(01:41:15):
play right in the indoor. Then I go right back
to spring outdoor. When do you take it off? I
mean you played football, right, you know, as soon as
the season over, where was your butt? Your butt was
in the weight room for the next three months, four months,
and then when we had off in the summer. Where
where were you were in the weight room? These We
got high school girls that come into plod On campus
(01:41:38):
who came to pick up a forty five pound bar
because they've never been told to lift before. So, you know,
the bottom line is until we teach these kids' mobility
how to move, do some strengths training with, and the
injury rate is not changing. You look at the little
kids with owner collateral ligament injuries in the elbow from throwing.
(01:42:00):
They shrunk too much. Okay, here's a newsflash. You're overloading.
You're too young of an age. You can't load that
much that fast. And so you know, the parents have
to protect their The whole idea of being a parent
who is to protect your kid. The whole idea of
a parent isn't to make your kid the next.
Speaker 5 (01:42:18):
Nolan Ryan, you know.
Speaker 29 (01:42:20):
And the bottom line is these parents have dollar bills
in their eyes because they think my kid's going to
sign the next nil contract or they're going to get
the next scholarship. You want them to get the scholarship
or you want them to get the nil money, you
better make sure they stay healthy. And to stay healthy
means forget always worrying about what's wort they're playing. You
need to get them into with somebody who really knows
(01:42:42):
how to lift, who really knows how to work on mobility,
and get them in better shape, and that reduces.
Speaker 7 (01:42:48):
The ravery risk.
Speaker 29 (01:42:49):
Otherwise by the time we get them in college. Heck,
are females in college can't even pick a bar up
off the ground because they've never been in a weight room.
Speaker 7 (01:42:58):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
Obviously something that needs to be taken into accountability. Bob,
As always, thank you so much for your time. Enjoy
the week. College basketball right around the corner a huge
game at Nippert Stadium on Saturday. As always, we appreciate
your time.
Speaker 29 (01:43:14):
Are you in the box on Saturday? Are you on
the side?
Speaker 3 (01:43:16):
Back on the sideline, Baby, back on the sideline.
Speaker 29 (01:43:20):
I'll see on the sideline, Tony out of work.
Speaker 3 (01:43:22):
That is Bob man Jean from the University of Cincinnati

(01:43:44):
our number three since E three sixty thanks to Penn
Station on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:43:49):
Now your chance do it Sincy three sixty is back
on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 3 (01:44:01):
Welcome back. It's since he three to sixty ESBN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. We obviously covered Reds, We cover the Bengals,
We cover FC Cincinnati, We cover the Cincinnati Bearcats, Xavier Musketeers.
Let's set some time aside here on a Thursday afternoon
to talk some high school football. And who better to
talk some high school football with than the man behind
the skyline Chili Crossdown Showdown. It is one Tom Gamble
(01:44:24):
joining us. Now, Tom, what's up?
Speaker 35 (01:44:27):
Well, Tony, I'm talking to high school royalty here though,
right out there Veterans Memorial Stadium. Huh, you're going to
give a pregame speech. You're the honorary captain, right. It's
a big night you ready.
Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
It's a big night at the at the VET Veterans
Memorial Stadium, and it's becoming even bigger because you guys
are going to be in the building as well. The
Skyline Chili Crossdown Showdown rolls through reading the tailor. Yes,
I'm excited reading coming off. They got their first win,
they got the monkey off their back last week, so
I'm interested to see how they follow that up because
(01:45:02):
the week before they played Madeira really well. They did,
they went for two, but they played them really well.
So I want to see what these guys have on
Friday night. I'm looking forward to it, and obviously it
has the big game feel because you guys are gonna
be in attendance as well.
Speaker 35 (01:45:15):
Yeah, you know, we picked these games before the year
and kind of you know, we started off in Southeast
Indiana with East Central Larrengeburg. Then we went to Northern
Kentucky Highlands Cooper, then the opening of Baden's on campus stadium.
Then I mean Princeton, Lakota West, Anderson, King's, Elder Saint
X and you got to give some love to the
small schools in the Cincinnati Hills League, a very good league.
So we got back to back weeks this week reading
(01:45:38):
hosting Taylor and then Indian Hill at Madeira, which is
a great rival game, and Indian Hill appears to be
the cream of the crop in the cochl As.
Speaker 5 (01:45:47):
Your Wyoming's always there.
Speaker 35 (01:45:48):
But if Madeira somehow Friday night were to beat Wyoming,
it'd be you know, undefeated against undefeated. But no, you know,
we try to spread the love. There's a lot of
good high school football and we've had some great games
and there are some great teams, and you know we're
not naive. I mean Moeler at Elder. I mean it's
for the GCL Salve, but that should be a great game.
Speaker 5 (01:46:07):
But now it'll be.
Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
A lot of fun. The people at Ready. We did
a pep rally.
Speaker 35 (01:46:10):
At the Reading Skyline Chili Tuesday, and I did one
last night for Taylor and they're excited. They're excited to
be a part of this and it's it'll be fun.
I got to ask you when when you get in there,
will it bring back will bring back memories?
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
Well? Yeah, what will be the theme of your speech?
Do you know yet?
Speaker 3 (01:46:26):
I don't know yet. I know Readin is so deeply
rooted with the blue collar mentality and just the hard
work that it takes to get everything done and to
tie that in. I had a chance. You know, it's
cool for me. I had a chance last year to
take my oldest son down to a game, and you know,
he sat there and enjoyed it all. And it is
It's one thing in the atmosphere at the pit tomorrow
(01:46:46):
night with with Moller going into Elder That's a top
ten atmosphere that you can ever find, probably across the
nation at times. But there is something to be said
about small town high school football and how the whole
community gets together and comes out and it just makes
it very special. And I look forward to the most
of that when I get a chance to get back
to Redding for sure.
Speaker 35 (01:47:07):
Well it's funny you say that, because to be on
you know, one thing about Redding is prideful, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 5 (01:47:13):
I mean, there's a lot of pride.
Speaker 35 (01:47:14):
And it's very interesting because we do about fifteen pep
rallies a year at Neighborhood Skyline Chile's. We've been doing
them for fifteen years. And man, you can tell the
communities that, no matter what, support their high school. And
you're right, Redding's won out in Cleves. It's tailor. I mean,
it's the same thing. But you're right about the Molar
(01:47:34):
Elder and I wonder how many people realize this about
that game too. Molar has won eleven straight GCL South games,
which is incredible.
Speaker 5 (01:47:42):
So if they win at.
Speaker 35 (01:47:44):
Elder tomorrow, they'll have won four straight league titles without
a loss.
Speaker 5 (01:47:49):
Think of that. But think about this.
Speaker 35 (01:47:51):
Elder has not won the GCL South outright. This is
stunning to me because they've got a great program. Doug
Ramsey's an outstanding coach.
Speaker 5 (01:47:59):
Since two thousand and eight.
Speaker 3 (01:48:02):
Think about that, insane.
Speaker 35 (01:48:04):
I mean, they share it with Saint X a few
years back, and then you got to go back.
Speaker 5 (01:48:08):
This is the best.
Speaker 35 (01:48:08):
Start for Elder six and zero since two thousand and three.
I mean, and Molar's really good. But I'll tell you
what Elver that came East that their quarterback is outstanding
running the football, passing the football. And you know, they
maybe don't jump off the page at you with a
ton of like you know Blue Chippers. They just know
how to play. If Doug does a great job and
keeps it, keeps it within the confines of what they
(01:48:31):
can do, and I think that's got the potential to
be a hell of a game at the pit.
Speaker 3 (01:48:34):
You know, I've been watching a lot of high school
and Elder got a huge win at st X last week.
Tough back to back, and I think st X has
to go to host Trinity now, which is not an
easy thing for them. But there's a team that I
feel like isn't getting talked about enough. But you mentioned Princeton.
They beat Lakota West this year. Early in that game
against Molar, they were having their way with Moler and
(01:48:55):
they roller kind of found their footing a little bit.
But how how valid it is Princeton from what you've
seen and the type of noise they can.
Speaker 5 (01:49:04):
Make, I think they're pretty good.
Speaker 35 (01:49:06):
I mean, Andre Parker's done an outstanding job there and
they've been in GMC contention. I think they're gonna win it.
I don't see them losing a GMC game. And you
are correct and the other one and people talk about them,
but the other one is so dominant. I think if
if you were to ask me, I think a lot
of people would say, well, Moler talent wise, and they
got Matt Ponatowski obviously the reigning Ohio mister football.
Speaker 5 (01:49:29):
They made it to the state final last year.
Speaker 35 (01:49:30):
But I can't see anybody stopping Anderson, I mean at
least getting back there. I mean they are absurd. I
mean from week one, Cooper was down eight to three.
At halftime, well fifty two to ten. I mean, they
just the pace and the tempo, and they've got so
many They're so talented on both.
Speaker 5 (01:49:49):
Sides of the ball, and they got studs.
Speaker 35 (01:49:51):
I mean, so I think Anderson Princeton, Anderson plays Turpin,
which Turpin's having a good year.
Speaker 5 (01:49:57):
I mean they're four and one in the.
Speaker 35 (01:49:59):
League, so was I mean, King's only loss is to Anderson,
and it was close early and then Anderson just doesn't stop.
I mean they're really really good too. I think Princeton's good,
Mowler's good, x Still has a really good defense.
Speaker 5 (01:50:12):
Elder's good.
Speaker 35 (01:50:13):
I mean, there are a lot of teams, but I
think the team that the two maybe unless Elder really.
Speaker 5 (01:50:19):
Shocks me Friday night. And again, I think.
Speaker 35 (01:50:21):
They're really really good. I think Molar might be a
little bit better, but I think it's Molar at D
one and I think it's Anderson.
Speaker 5 (01:50:27):
At D two.
Speaker 3 (01:50:28):
How many years now is this for the showdown?
Speaker 35 (01:50:32):
Twenty eight to long time my friend, which means a
couple of things one, I'm old, yes, but it's but
you know what it really means is it is just
the interest in high school football.
Speaker 5 (01:50:42):
It's still there. I mean it's it's still there and
people love it.
Speaker 35 (01:50:46):
And it's again, I know, there's all the focus on
the Elders, the Moelers, the Saint Xe's, the Lakota West,
the Princeton's and Anders, but it's the small schools. I mean, like,
how about North College Hill, they're six and zero. How
about the running back lamp Cantrel like Talawanda, Yeah, who's
among the nation's top rush. He's got fifteen hundred plus yard.
Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
Dominic good there, I know, ye a great.
Speaker 35 (01:51:09):
Jobs coaching, right, Dominic is there. He's been with Andy
and that kid's run for over four hundred against Taylor
Week one, he won over three hundred. Another week twice
he's been over two hundred. I mean it's and he
didn't even play last year.
Speaker 5 (01:51:22):
I mean, it's it's.
Speaker 35 (01:51:23):
But it's that kind of stuff to me, And I
mentioned you know NCH being six and zero, there are
always you can always find the good stories in high
school football. To me, that's what makes it so interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:51:33):
And you always just feel that it does it. It
feels like, you know, at the college level, college game
day rolls into town. When you guys roll into town,
it just makes that game and that week feel bigger.
You guys do it right throughout the week. It's not
just showing up on Friday night and doing it. For
those interested, whether it's Tomorrow night reading Taylor or whatever
the schedule is going forward, how can they find out
(01:51:54):
more information with everything he got going on?
Speaker 35 (01:51:57):
Yeah, we do it on social It's at Extown Showdown
on x and Instagram, and we'll have score updates. We'll
have video Mark Slaughter who's a great videographer. We brought
him onto the team last year and he provides video
for Fox nineteen and Joe and Jeremy do a great
job with the final quarter with the Showdown game each week.
But it's at Xtown Showdown and we'll have anything and everything,
(01:52:19):
interviews leading up to it during the week, and coverage
the night in the game, and of course some exclusive
video from your pre games.
Speaker 3 (01:52:26):
Let's go Tom. The Showdown is unbelievable and keeps getting better.
So appreciate everything you're doing for high school sports, and
certainly appreciate you taking some time for us today and
for making the trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium tomorrow night.
Speaker 35 (01:52:41):
Absolutely one of only two grass fields still, I know
what the other one is.
Speaker 5 (01:52:46):
Uh huh, North College Hill.
Speaker 3 (01:52:48):
We might water that baby down tomorrow night. Let's muck
it up a little bit. For the Blue Devils and
the Yellow Jackets.
Speaker 35 (01:52:54):
Well, you better get the sprinklers out, brother, because they
ain't gone a rag.
Speaker 5 (01:52:58):
It's all good. I appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (01:53:00):
I appreciate Tom. We'll see you tomorrow night. Thank you.
That is Tom Gamble from the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.
We'll keep moving along. Next the SBN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports station looking for a financial part in fifteen thirty.
(01:53:24):
Welcome back since he three sixty thanks to Penn Station.
By the way, Penn Station changing the game. As we
get into uh October, here, Austin, did you see this
like you like the cheese steak, the Philly cheese steak. Yeah,
you've seen what they're doing in October. What they're doing
Ghost Pepper Philly cheese stake really had a little spice
(01:53:44):
and a little ghost. Now that's Icy bol Alley hauntingly good.
The Ghost Pepper Cheese steak. Thanks to our friends at
Penn Station. Thank you for listening. Thank our guy Jeff
for holding to talk to us today. What she's able
to do?
Speaker 1 (01:53:59):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:53:59):
What's up, Jeff?
Speaker 6 (01:54:01):
A happy anniversary boy, Thank you, Jeff. Absolutely Hey, any
of these Reds fans thinking if Kyle Schwarber were from
the middle of Nebraska that the Reds would even consider
offering him twenty five to thirty million dollars a year.
Speaker 3 (01:54:14):
No, I don't think they'll consider offering him twenty five
million a year. And he's from Middletown.
Speaker 7 (01:54:18):
I get it that.
Speaker 6 (01:54:19):
That's the whole point. I like people, Kyle Schwarber is
not coming here unless you want to trade the Phillies
Hunter Green. Maybe I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Oh, okay, wait a second now, Hunter Green for Schwarmer.
Speaker 6 (01:54:32):
I hate to disappoint people, but I don't think old
mister Schwarber is coming.
Speaker 1 (01:54:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:54:36):
I think the Phillies are going to cough up whatever
amount it takes to keep him there because he's the hometown.
Not his hometown, but he's a big hero there.
Speaker 14 (01:54:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:54:44):
I think it's important to set the expectations early in
this Reds off season that it's just not going to happen.
Speaker 6 (01:54:50):
Let's get that my next question, Let's make three comparison
between the Reds and the Bengals. Biggest roster holes, worse
on field coaching management, worst front office between.
Speaker 7 (01:55:02):
The two teams.
Speaker 3 (01:55:04):
Oh man, I feel like right now the Bengals have
worst roster holes. Yeah, I think the front office. I
still I agree with Austin. I think the Bengals have tried.
I just don't think they've got it right in some
of that, so I'll give them the edge there. Is
it crazy to say coaching is a push? I mean,
(01:55:26):
I think push, but it's not the good kind of push. Yeah,
it ain't a touch push and any successful one.
Speaker 6 (01:55:34):
Have we moved to Tito the mediocre?
Speaker 18 (01:55:36):
Now?
Speaker 6 (01:55:36):
Is that what we're looking at?
Speaker 5 (01:55:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
When when he puts salin there and then salad delivered,
I thought Tito the Magnificent had one more ride in them,
but left a bad taste in my mouth. Yeah, it's
not the way you want to go into an off season,
that's for darn sure.
Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
But would we be happy with a twenty five home
run a year bat in the offseason?
Speaker 5 (01:55:53):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
Yes, for this team. They desperately need it. They're the
only team that's ever made the postseason without one without
an average over two seventy and a player to hit
twenty five or more home runs.
Speaker 7 (01:56:03):
But we don't need Schwarber or Judge.
Speaker 6 (01:56:05):
We just need a consistent guy who hits long balls.
Speaker 3 (01:56:07):
Yes, in this ballpark, which would mean they would have
to maybe adapt to the idea that home runs are
not in fact rally killers, but a lot of teams
rely on them to be successful.
Speaker 4 (01:56:17):
We also can't you go into the offseason assuming that
guys are going to take a step forward. You can't
assume that Matt McLean's gonna be better. You can't assume that,
you know, Sal Stewart is just going to produce the
same way like you have to try to improve every
part of the roster. You can't just assume, oh, well,
Spencer Steer, fully healthy, is gonna hit thirty home runs.
Speaker 3 (01:56:38):
No, we don't know what that's gonna look like. Yeah,
I think one of the more I think one of
the more fascinating offseason questions is Matt McLean and what
that's going to look like.
Speaker 4 (01:56:47):
He cannot come into spring training next year as the
starting second basement.
Speaker 5 (01:56:51):
He just can't.
Speaker 6 (01:56:52):
Yeah, Yeah, I think, Yeah, it's gonna be, you know, man,
February is going to be the real doldrooms for you guys,
feeling before spring training starts up. So all right, we'll
have a good afternoon, gents.
Speaker 3 (01:57:05):
Thank you, Jeff, appreciate it. We've not done this yet
this week Austin. Let's take a look here at the
a little bit of the schedule coming up this weekend
college slate. First, and one of those marquee college football
games is what's gonna happen at Knippert Stadium Iowa State
against the Cincinnati Bearcats right now Austin. Still the Bearcat's
(01:57:27):
a one and a half point favorite. I know Iowa
State is without both starting cornerbacks right now, and they
had a very lengthy injury report today with players that
are questionable. The only player is still questionable for the
Bearcats Dante Corleone. That should be a good one. It
does not get any easier for Mark Stoops they go
to Georgia. Speaking of not getting any easier, Luke Fickles bunch,
(01:57:48):
they had a bye week Austin. Before the bye they
got boat raced at home by Maryland. Wisconsin is not
in a goods place right now. No they now go
to the Big House after that, Iowa, and then they
get the number one and number two respective teams in
the country Ohio State and Oregon. They still got to
play Indiana, they still got to play Illinois, They still
got to play Washington and Minnesota, Austin. I don't think
(01:58:10):
Luke Fickle gets to a bowl game in Wisconsin. Yeah,
and I don't think he keeps his job. Nope, they
do not like him in Wisconsin. Not many Top twenty
five matchups though, across the board. Texas Florida I think
can be a sneaky good game because of how Florida
was viewed going into the year and what Texas has
(01:58:31):
done or not done. What about Alabama and Vandy because
Vandy upsets Bama last year, Now they got to go
to Alabama. They're not sneaking up on anybody. Do you
think Vandy has a shot to go in and win
that game, whereas Alabama kind of righted the ship they
got to win over Georgia. I know Pavia has talked
a lot in the offseason about this game. You give
(01:58:52):
Vandy a fighting chance.
Speaker 4 (01:58:54):
For as long as I live, I'll never pick Vanderbilt
to go into Tuscaloosa and beat the Crimson time.
Speaker 3 (01:58:58):
All Right, that's a good note.
Speaker 4 (01:58:59):
They're not sneaking up on anybody, yeah anymore. They're certainly
not sneaking up on Alabama this year. Bama gonna get
They lick back Boise. He was a top twenty five
team to start the year. They're three and one. They
go to Notre Dame and they're gonna get twenty and
a half points. I think that is a crazy large spread,
just insane. You say something about winschler in might be
(01:59:21):
our cheesy spread of the week. Uh the you Miami
goes to Florida State. Florida State a little fraudulent after
that lost to Virginia and as Miami as good as
people think, Yes and no, okay on both of those questions. Okay,
first game back to Florida State for Kirk kerb Street,
(01:59:42):
oh after they verbally abused him and his family after
college football playoff.
Speaker 3 (01:59:45):
I remember that. Yeah, that'll be one to watch for.
I hope, uh Peter poops on their field. Wow, you're
you're calling for a Peter poop? Yep, man, that's an
eighth anniversary Peter of course being his dogs. Yes, Peter
Herb Street the pooper. Uh, Thursday Night Football tonight, Austin.
What do you think about the Rams and Niners? No
(02:00:06):
brock Party because he's had another setback with turf toe.
Speaker 4 (02:00:09):
Yeah, something to think about. Rock Party tried to play
through it got aggravated again.
Speaker 3 (02:00:16):
Turf toe stinks eight and a half. That seem a lot.
Speaker 4 (02:00:19):
Yeah, as far as I know, I think four starters
for San Francisco are gone this week. Not to mention,
Nick Bose is already hurt and George Kittle's already hurt.
So I'll say every single year, it's the same story
with the forty nine ers, I'll say this, fifteen dudes hurt.
I enjoy the ability in a standalone game to appreciate
(02:00:39):
the Rams. Think when they get on a Sunday, you
got everything going on, you're watching games, the ability to
watch them in a standalone environment. You mentioned earlier in
the week the greatness of Pook and Akua right now
and how dominant he is, But it's just the way
the offense operates and how everything pieces together. Should be
a good Thursday night game Outside of that, Dolphins Panthers, Uh,
(02:01:00):
I'm just gonna be a lot of forty nine er
fans there tonight. Yeah, even though they're they're banged up.
Speaker 3 (02:01:07):
Lions Bengals of course? What about the Vikings and the Browns?
Speaker 4 (02:01:11):
I just got off the notification from NFL that all
the game picks have been made for the weekend. Do
you want to hear some of the scores that people
are predicting for Bengals line?
Speaker 3 (02:01:22):
Please please?
Speaker 4 (02:01:23):
Thirty five seventeen Okay, Lions not a cover, Not the Bengals,
twenty eight to twenty thirty five, sixteen thirty four, seventeen,
thirty one to twenty huh so nobody thinks the Bengals
keep it close?
Speaker 5 (02:01:40):
Man?
Speaker 4 (02:01:42):
Bengals money line plus four to ten. Wow, it's good
value there right? Nope, no waste of money. Waste of money?
What Yeah, I'm not buying it. I'm not believing in it. Well, dude,
a couple of these other ones that I'm not sure
if I'm buying or not. What are the Browns doing
London against the Vikings? Good luck, Dylan Gabriel. Here's Brian Flores.
Speaker 3 (02:02:03):
Yep, that's what I thought of. Immediately.
Speaker 4 (02:02:06):
Will Shadoor Sanders actually speak before then? Actually, we have
some Shador Sanders audio here, take a listen.
Speaker 3 (02:02:11):
Okay, great point. That is a great point. You know
what's interesting is there was that report that he like
blocked wanting to go to the Baltimore Ravens to be
Lamar's backup, And now Lamar is doubtful this week and
he could have been starting instead, he's third string in Cleveland.
You reap what you saw, a young man.
Speaker 4 (02:02:31):
Funny how life works. Dylan Gabriel kind of took a
shot at him too, Like, if you sit around waiting
for your chance at all all the time, you may
never get it.
Speaker 3 (02:02:41):
Cult Raiders, Giants, Saints, Well, Cowboys, Jets. Why'd you say
it like that? I just don't think Jackson Dark Baby
all right, the dart Era. I just those teams are
combined one for seven. So I hesitant. I think the
Eagles dominate the Broncos on Sunday. What about Texans Ravens?
Speaker 4 (02:02:58):
Well, hold on a j Brown, He's upset he's not
getting the rock.
Speaker 3 (02:03:02):
This sounds like one of those games he gets a
rock trouble in. I No, I think he gets a
rock about eleven times. I don't think he's gonna get
it at all. Patrick Shirtan still there.
Speaker 2 (02:03:09):
Oh oh, he continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
It's time for since he three sixty quick hits on.
Speaker 3 (02:03:20):
ESPN looking for Mos in the building, was looking for Mo. Gentlemen,
Happy anniversary.
Speaker 4 (02:03:26):
Congratulations as well, you too, Thank you so much all
you've done.
Speaker 10 (02:03:30):
I've done absolutely nothing, But you think of all the
people who have worked on this show.
Speaker 3 (02:03:33):
You know it started as a James Rapeen vehicle. Yeah,
you guys, I thought first of Jimmy Sandy exactly. That's
exactly who I thought of.
Speaker 5 (02:03:42):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:03:42):
So congratulations to all parties involved. Thank you. Literally five
of us have ever worked on this crazy literally uh crazy.
And I thought, as a gift, yeah, we could sit
down tonight and see Andrew Rabbit pitch in the postseason. Boy,
that would be nice. Or maybe Chase Burns and some
meaning that would be nice. What about Emilio Pegan? That
(02:04:03):
would be nice, because the only pitches when the Reds
are winning crazy. Nicolodola just got roughed up in his
outing yesterday. Didn't want to bring him back out there.
Speaker 10 (02:04:10):
He was awful, and those fourteen pitches just got crushed
just throwing meat balls. I guess they he was tipping
his pitches too.
Speaker 3 (02:04:15):
It's crazy to think we spent all season talking about
if they just find a way in their pitching, yeah,
we'll give them every chance, and most of those guys
didn't even have a chance to give them a chance.
Speaker 10 (02:04:27):
So I put this on social media last night. The
series took a nose dive when Hunter Green threw his
fourth pitch. Because if they were gonna win this series,
it wasn't going to be outscore of the Dodgers. It
was gonna be when close, low scoring games. Two things
had to happen. Neither did one. The starting pitching was
gonna have to be excellent too. They were gonna have
to play clean in the field, and god knows they
(02:04:47):
didn't do that.
Speaker 3 (02:04:48):
But something we.
Speaker 10 (02:04:49):
Did all season long, which was, you know, they would
lose a tough game, including on opening Day, they would
lose a tough game, you would go like, man, I
hope we don't go back and look at that one.
Well we didn't in relation to them making the postseason,
but because of all those losses, Game one sixty two mattered,
and instead of doing what the Milwaukee Brewers did, or
(02:05:10):
instead of doing what the Philadelphia Phillies did. They had
to play and so they had to use bullets. I
cannot blame Terry Francona for using Nickolodolo on Sunday. I
could blame the team for making Sunday matter because my
thought on Sunday when they put Ladolo in was crap.
Now if they do get in, he can't pitch Wednesday. Yep,
(02:05:31):
it might not have made a difference. My guess is
it wouldn't have. But there's a reverberation. So the goal
next year is to how about this play one sixty
two with a bunch of reserves. Have it not matter,
have a lead. You've clinched the division a week and
a half prior. Cell tickets to a scrimmage Celtic. We
(02:05:51):
should be watching a scrimmage one one year from today
at GABP.
Speaker 3 (02:05:57):
So like that.
Speaker 10 (02:05:58):
That is to me am I takeaway is because this
team treaded water all season long, in a year where
the expectation was to make the playoffs, it came back
to bite them in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (02:06:09):
It's hard not to have what ifs. What if South
Stewart was caught up earlier? What if South Stewart, who
I saw last night battle, Yes, at the dish. What
if that South Stewart played consistently down the stretch?
Speaker 23 (02:06:18):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (02:06:18):
What if he played in meaningful games for this team
instead of just sparingly. What if Will Benson got opportunities
and maybe last night after a really good at baut
to draw a walk, maybe get to actually finish out
in a bat instead of being taken out. I don't
think in the middle of it.
Speaker 10 (02:06:31):
I don't think I've ever seen both both ends of
it taken out mid at bat. I've seen the picture
taken out mid at bat. I've seen the hit or
replace mid at bat. I've not seen that.
Speaker 3 (02:06:39):
Benson gets charged with the strikeout and jehar comes on
and has the impossible task of seeing a pitch tough. Yes,
it's just hard on all round.
Speaker 4 (02:06:48):
What do you think that Will Benson exit meeting is
like today? Will It's been nice? Yeah, please run out
of here. I don't know, guys. Here's what happens in sports.
This is the beauty. We turn the page very quickly.
Speaker 10 (02:07:03):
Yeah, number one, Our attention spans are shorter than they've
ever been too. That's the beauty of sports. Most of us.
I just turn to the next Yeah, so today in
Abu Dhabi, I'm not sure you guys were following the
New York Knicks OH fifteen point exhibition victory over the
Philadelphia seventy six ers. Cincinnati's own Deduce McBride. You got
the music ready, five and seven from the field, the
(02:07:26):
tone was set.
Speaker 5 (02:07:27):
Yeah, in Abu Dhabi.
Speaker 3 (02:07:28):
Nice. A lot of people think, you know you mentioned
Cincinnati's own Miles McBride. Yeah, Kyle schwarber' is a Cincinnati
guy and went to the Middletown People are already clamoring
that they're gonna go get Kyle Schwarber this offseason. Can
we just put that to bet officially? Probably? But why
should we? Well, we shouldn't, but we know how this goes.
But like that's the problem. Yeah, that's the problem.
Speaker 10 (02:07:47):
The off season isn't twenty four hours old, and already
it feels like, nah, you get patted on the head.
Instead it should be screw it, man, go get Kyle Schwarber.
Speaker 3 (02:07:57):
Yeah, so this team use a bat.
Speaker 10 (02:08:00):
Think, so okay, not Kyle Schwarber, not pet Alonzo than who.
Now I know some are gonna say, well, Sal Stewart, man,
Sala Stewart looks like a dude, but like he's not established,
Like I want an established slugger. The problem is, and
this is an off season where the Reds have an
(02:08:21):
opportunity to change it. By the way, there's not a
lot of money locked into next year's team, right, There's
some guys who are arbitration eligible, but like the guaranteed
salaries are key Brian Hayes, Hunter Green and what else?
Speaker 5 (02:08:34):
You got.
Speaker 3 (02:08:36):
A good player, right, good good the one bee catcher.
Speaker 5 (02:08:40):
Right.
Speaker 10 (02:08:41):
So the problem is we're so conditioned to going, as
we say it with the Bengals, that's just not what
they do.
Speaker 3 (02:08:48):
Why can't it be you know?
Speaker 10 (02:08:50):
By the way, I was the guy and there were
others who last off season were like, wait a minute,
the Mets aren't gonna sign Pee Alonzo long term?
Speaker 3 (02:08:58):
Go sign him for a year.
Speaker 24 (02:08:59):
Oh mo, Mo, we've got ce S.
Speaker 3 (02:09:04):
Do you do you have Cees? Do you have him?
Speaker 20 (02:09:09):
Mo?
Speaker 10 (02:09:10):
They don't need And I'm like, all right, so who
else is going to hit thirty five for you?
Speaker 3 (02:09:14):
Nines? Oh mo? We got rees high?
Speaker 5 (02:09:18):
Honestly, Jacob heard of me.
Speaker 48 (02:09:22):
This year.
Speaker 10 (02:09:23):
Yeah, they could have, so like that's the thing we
chest so all right, fine, not Kyle Schwarmer, not not
beat Alonzo?
Speaker 3 (02:09:31):
Who got spender steel? Be healthy?
Speaker 10 (02:09:35):
Who is hitting thirty? Just make it thirty? Who's hitting
thirty home runs next year? Sala Stewart? Maybe the take
a step forward? Are you betting on that? By the way,
you're also allowed to have check this out. Two guys
who hit thirty home runs?
Speaker 3 (02:09:47):
I about that?
Speaker 5 (02:09:48):
Wait?
Speaker 3 (02:09:48):
Really? Yeah? What else you got coming up on the
show today? We're going to spend time on that. Okay.
Speaker 10 (02:09:53):
I'm gonna go back to a night in December twenty
twenty when Zachaylor won me over. Okay, we're gonna do
that powerful. Yeah, it's going to be exciting. Jeff Carr
is going to be on the show, Jay Morrison should
the risk? Should the Bengals sign Jed Brars' cousin, Derek Carr?
Speaker 29 (02:10:16):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (02:10:16):
Jed Rendell? Is Lee going to join you today and
then join us on Sunday? Lee is not going to
join us on Sunday? Okay, but he's gonna join me today. Okay.
I wanted to clear this.
Speaker 10 (02:10:24):
Late for Sunday. You and I at the Holy Grail. Yeah,
from from noon to two thirty.
Speaker 3 (02:10:29):
Would be nice. If we're talking about a big UC
win as well on Sunday.
Speaker 10 (02:10:31):
Gonna be a fun game on Saturday. Good atmosphere, good
team coming in. Like so okay, I think Saturday made
people perk up right, Okay, especially because Bengals stink.
Speaker 3 (02:10:40):
Let me take a look at this. Let's see, let's
watch this closer.
Speaker 10 (02:10:43):
So now that you have people's attention, can you prove
that that wasn't an outlier?
Speaker 3 (02:10:46):
Like if you win this one man game on uc
F Oklahoma State, uh huh, Baylor comes in, you can
before and no going into Baylor.
Speaker 10 (02:10:54):
Yeah, this is this is a huge This is a
big opportunity for this team. And and I are going
to talk about Saturday like folks have wondered, like are
they good? I think the conversation has gone from who
are these guys too? Are they good? That's a good step.
Saturday will tell us that the answer is yes.
Speaker 3 (02:11:12):
Yeah, a lot to build up sores. Be solid with
you today. Who's good? Yeah, very well spoken. He's he
got to root for n I own money. Must be
good because that's an expensive tam. If he's taken every
line in the Ninner's the game to Jeff Rubies after wins,
is that what you were doing. Yeah, I brought him donuts,
brought him over Mom and Dan's house for burgers nights,
Friday nights, Thursday nights.
Speaker 10 (02:11:33):
Many years ago, we had a boss who took the
staff of thirteen sixty Homer oh to Jeff Rubies.
Speaker 3 (02:11:41):
Nice took us there. That's nice. I didn't say he
paid for the dinner. Oh you talking about the sticker shock?
Speaker 7 (02:11:48):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (02:11:48):
And when you're like, I don't know what I am
twenty seven years old, that's different. Hey, we're going to Rubies.
That's kind of nice. And then suddenly like the guy
starts passing out all that, and I'm like, we're gonna pay.
We're gonna pay for all all of these.
Speaker 4 (02:12:00):
A few years ago during COVID, kind of that boss,
uh Me and the other producers were given gift cards
to Jeff Rubies. Were you, Yeah, one hundred dollars gift cards.
Speaker 3 (02:12:12):
There's nothing on them.
Speaker 10 (02:12:13):
Has anybody commemorated you guys on the anniversary of your
show people that work here? Yeah, no, no, Wait till
you hit milestone I get paid. Wait till you hit milestones,
like twenty twenty five years. Yeah, then they really roll
out the red carpet. They pull out all the stops
to congratulate.
Speaker 3 (02:12:30):
Well, they threw everything out us last year for arm
Tony and Mill football show.
Speaker 10 (02:12:33):
So that's alwayshow I saw John dumb on Facebook at
Channel twelve. They gave him like it looks like you
drank wine out of it, I guess, or smoked weed
out of Canter gave him this big thing for twenty
years at Channel twelve.
Speaker 3 (02:12:42):
Wow, John Gumm, John Gumm? What's his middle name? Can
I have a pieza? There you go? That's why we
get eight years right there? Eight years? Yeah, so I
was gonna say, chewing. We do have a nice piece
of paper commemorating the ten years.
Speaker 7 (02:12:59):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:13:01):
I thought you guys got bottles of bourbon for that.
We did get one. One person brought us bottles of
We did get one, But you take eight years.
Speaker 10 (02:13:11):
My dad worked for ten years at an area health
club and they sent him to Wahi.
Speaker 3 (02:13:15):
Huh. That's pretty cool. I have a list of things
I just like at this point, even one you can.
Speaker 10 (02:13:22):
Take it to Jeff Ruby. It's like twenty years ago.
I don't even know why you gotta take it to
Jeff Ruby. That's incredible how the times have changed. My
Lagger is next. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Have
