Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sincy three to sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in
part by Skyline Chile. Stop by Skyline Chile for a
three way or chee Coney today, feeling good. It's Skyline time.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hi, Hello and welcome in Cincy three sixty on ESPN
fifteen thirty. My name is Austin Elmore. Yes, Austin Elmore
writing quote unquote solo today as Tony Pike plays in
another golf outing. Tony will not be here for the
next three mondays. He is not out, not here today

(00:39):
as he plays in a golf outing. We have Labor
Day off and then he has another golf outing the
Monday after the Bengals opener against the Cleveland Browns. So
no tone for the next three mondays, but tone back
tomorrow from twelve to three. In the meantime, it's myself
my producer today, Drew Wester Heidi as well, and hopefully
you will be a part of the show. We'll get
to that in just a little bit. At one o'clock today,

(01:02):
James Rapine from All Bengals Cincinnati Bengals Talk on YouTube.
He'll stop by to recap whatever the whole thing was
on Saturday with the Bengals and the Colts. I don't
know if it's fair to call that a game. I
guess technically it was a game that was ugly, but
the results don't matter. But it does highlight something about

(01:23):
the Bengals that we'll get into. Then at two o'clock,
Jeff Carr, the Eternal Optimists and co host of the
Locked On Reds podcast, is going to join us. Because
Jeff sees things with the glass half full. I am
often criticized for seeing things with the glass half empty,
and I understand that. I get it. I accept that punishment.

(01:44):
But the Reds did what they have come to be
known to do. I don't know if that made any sense,
but they did what they always do, which is they
screwed up. They lost the series on the road to
the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend. They salvage won yesterday,
so we can still keep bringing up that stupid, pointless

(02:05):
stat about never getting swept. We'll talk to Jeff about
that coming up at two o'clock as well. Moe Egger
for quick hits and locks of the night, well not
locks of the night. See I'm telling you I do that.
Every time I'm by myself, I always say locks, and
it's just it's muscle memory. There's no Locks of the Night.
But Moegger is here. Four quick hits coming up at

(02:27):
the end of the show today. Mo will be in
from three to six. Let's look at the weekend as
a whole. Not great. Bengals smoked forty one to fourteen
at pay Corpse Stadium in their preseason finale by the
Indianapolis Colts. The Reds, as I mentioned, lost that series
to the Diamondbacks in Arizona, and FC Cincinnati lost as well.

(02:51):
So as a whole, the Cincinnati teams on Saturday were
outscored fifty two to fourteen or fifty two to fifteen,
something like fifty two to six, whatever it was. It
was a lot too a little, and that made for
a rough weekend. Saturday, though we did get the return
of college football. Can we stop playing games in Ireland? Please?

(03:15):
What is the point of this? The field always looks terrible,
it's constantly raining, it's ugly football. I know that we're
all so star for football that we'll take whatever we
can get, but can we stop? What's the point? Especially
a long standing rivalry like Kansas State and Iowa State.
Why do we got to send it over to Ireland.
I mean, if you want to put Notre Dame over there, Okay,

(03:37):
that makes a little bit more sense. They're more of
a global brand than Iowa State and Kansas stated like,
that makes a little bit more sense if Notre Dame
opens in Ireland every year. But I don't know about
this other stuff. It's just it's just doesn't I want
to see these games on campuses. I want to feel
the energy. We're gonna feel that this weekend, as college

(03:59):
foot ball's official week one gets underway, obviously, the big
game being Ohio State and Texas at Ohio Stadium coming
up on Saturday. That is a noon game. We've talked
extensively about how unbelievably annoying it is for a noon
game between a top to top three teams in college football.

(04:21):
But that's what's happening. Looking forward to watching College game Day,
the final college game day for one league, Corso the coach,
I have a feeling he's gonna pick his first love brutus.
I have a feeling that's what's going to happen, because
that's where you got to start with the head gear
all those years ago. But I think that pretty much

(04:43):
covers all the headlines.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Drew.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Did I miss anything in the headlines of the weekend?

Speaker 4 (04:48):
I think from the grand standpoint, I think you hit
everything that needed to be said other than high school
football in the area also.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Scored football returned and your guy, Tommy Fleetwood. Tommy Fleetwood.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Tommy Fleetwood a season long race for the FedEx Cup
by winning the final tournament of the year that had
thirty players. Oh oh wait, wait, wait wait wait really, yes, guys,
he technically won the season long race by winning the
final tournament with Yeah, the PGA Tours got some stuff
to figure out, so I had credit to Tommy Fleetwood.
That was a very feel good winner. A lot of

(05:20):
people happy for Tommy. On the socials yesterday.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
I had the busiest weekend ever and I did not
get to watch like anything. I didn't get to watch
the Bengals, I didn't get to watch the Reds. I
didn't get to watch FC Cincinnati. I barely I watched
a little bit of that Iowa State Kansas State game.
And then I get home Sunday and I'm finally like
taking a deep breath and I turn on the TV

(05:43):
and Tommy Fleetwood is in contention on the back and
I had no idea what was going on because I
don't follow golf as closely as I used to, so
I knew it was like a big it was the
FedEx Cup. I didn't know there was only thirty people
in the turn correct, So this was the third playoff event.
So are you telling me there's an asterisk? No?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
No, because it's the thirty best players from this season,
so it's not like he was facing firemen and plumbers
out there.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
He was.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
He was beaten all of the best players from this season.
But it's just funny how the guy who's notorious for
choking all season long wins the final tournament to win
the season long race, while Scottie Scheffler won a million
times plus two majors and didn't win the season long race.
But that's, like I said, the PGA Tour has got
some stuff to figure out. They have a new CEO

(06:28):
former NFL executive, so I think there's gonna be some
sweeping changes to the tour in the coming year.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
So I'm interest to see how that goes. But happy
for Tommy. He earned it.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
He was by far the best player without a win,
and a really good, feel good winner. You could tell
the players and fans alike respect him a lot.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
So it was cool to see ten million, ten millions.
I saw someone describe it as there was a pretty
good pot of gold at the end of Tommy Fleetwood's
rainbow after all that he had gone through.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
That is exactly right. I say, ten million dollars a
nice direct deposit.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, absolutely, Speaking of direct deposits, Right before we came
on the air, news came down that the Washington Commanders
have agreed to a three year contract extension with wide
receiver Terry McLaurin. Three years, ninety six million dollars four
Terry McLaurin. It adds three more years to his already deal,

(07:32):
So he's under contract through twenty twenty eight, because if
I'm not mistaken, twenty twenty eight to twenty twenty nine,
but I'm pretty sure twenty twenty eight, and he ends
up one million dollars short of DK Metcalf and ap Y,
but the team gets one less year of control than
than DK Metcalf and the Steelers have. But that's kind

(07:54):
of been the trend with some of these wide receiver
contracts has been shorter three year deals so they can
try to double and get back into the market. I
don't know if Terry McLaurin is going to be able
to double dip, but he finally got what he wanted,
and Jaden Daniels has one of his most important pieces.
That means there are two, count them, two holdouts left,
Two big holdouts hold ins left. One would be Micah

(08:17):
Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys. The other would be Trey
Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals. Speaking of the Cowboys, I
watched the first two episodes last night of the Jerry
Jones documentary on Netflix.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Drew, have you seen this? I have not watched it.
I've seen it on the Netflix homepage. I am intrigued.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
The first six minutes of the first episode will completely
sink their teeth into you. It makes you want to
binge the entire thing right away. This is exemplmary excellent, fantastic,
wonderful filmmaking by the people at show Dance and Netflix

(08:56):
who put this documentary together. It is since sational and
for me, I know a lot about Jerry, but I
don't know all the stories. I haven't heard all the
stuff because it was a little bit before my time,
and so getting a refresher course on some stuff and
then learning a bunch of other stuff that I didn't
previously know about Jerry, which helps me understand the present

(09:19):
discourse and the discourse over the last ten or so
years around the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry specifically, has been
really cool for me to learn. If you're a football fan,
if you're a sports fan, if you just like good filmmaking,
that documentary is worth your time. And I'm already I'm
only two episodes in and they haven't even gotten Deon
Sanders yet. They haven't even gotten to what Michael Irvin

(09:41):
does off the field yet. There's still a lot of
juicy stuff to get to, and Troy Aikman is very
impressive in that as well. But the Trey Henderson thing,
let's touch briefly on that before we get to the Reds.
I still think that a deal is more than likely
going to get over the next ten days. I don't

(10:05):
think I feel strongly about that. If you were to
give me a percentage, or if you were to ask
for a percentage, I would say fifty five percent, says
a deal gets done prior to the Bengals playing the
Cleveland Browns on September seventh, that would mean forty five
percent of me thinks Trey Henderson misses at least one game,

(10:27):
at least one game because deadlines dou sper action, and
a year ago we saw it was at this time
where the Bengals and Jamar Chase really started to make
some progress. We know about Joe Burrow signing his the
Thursday the season started, when the Lions played the Kansas
City Chiefs in casey. We know that this happens with

(10:47):
the Bengals in the way that they do business. But
I do think Trey is a different personality than all
those guys that have come before him. And the word
that keeps coming back, it keeps coming out by the
end siders who talk about this is dug in he
Constantly people are saying that Trey has dug his eels

(11:08):
heels in on this. He's not going to budge. And
it really comes down to, as we all know and
have talked about, endlessly guaranteed money. At what point, if
you're the Bengals, do you say, Okay, enough is enough,
Let's just get this done. And I don't know that. Tray.

(11:30):
Here's the thing, and I know we had callers talking
about this last week. Do you really want to when
it's all said and done, if you're Trey Hendrickson, fourfeit
one point five million dollars one point three million dollars,
is that altogether worth it for you? I'm sure if
you get all this money, I guess it's a drop
in the bucket. But clearly money matters to him, money

(11:53):
matters to his family. It'll be five hundred thousand dollars
worth of fines from the first part of training camp
and then a game check, which is roughly nine hundred
something along those lines. Nine hundred thousand dollars. I mean,
if I was at risk of losing that type of money,
and I understand professional athletes are not like normal people,

(12:15):
I would have a hard time justifying that, especially considering
the way that I do believe Trey cares about his teammates,
cares about the Bengals, cares about the city, and wants
to win and be a good football player doing it.
But if that word keeps coming back dug In, that
would tell me that maybe, just maybe Trey is willing

(12:38):
to sacrifice some of those things. But ultimately I think
now it kind of I don't know that the balls
in either team's court right here, Like the Bengals would
probably say, yeah, the balls in Trey's court. We made
him a fair offer, and Trey and his people would
probably say the ball is in their court because we
told him that's not a good enough offer. What's gonna

(12:59):
be the first domino to fall? Surely the Terry McLaurin
thing has nothing to do with it. That has no impact,
one would think on Trey Hendrickson. I don't know that
anything's gonna happen between Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons and
the Dallas Cowboys. And if you hear Jerry continue to

(13:20):
talk about it, he says, we already agreed on the
deal all those months ago, and now they've I think
Jerry said that David Mullagetta told Jerry Jones to stick
the deal up his blank but I don't know if
that's true. Anyways, I don't know that anything is gonna
happen between now and the start of the season that's
going to have an impact on the Bengals on Trey Hendrickson,

(13:45):
or do just enough to nudge one or the other
in a certain direction. But at what point, or at
some point, you do have to look around and say, okay,
what is the point? And if the point is to
win football games and to compete for a Super Bowl,
with what you've seen from March until now, it is

(14:05):
going to be substantially harder for the Bengals to win
the Super Bowl, to even get back to the playoffs,
and I might even say win ten games if you
don't have Trey Hendrickson. We'll talk about this a little
bit later on my tweet that didn't age well going
into training camp and kind of the talking points that

(14:26):
we had going into training camp, and now here we
are a month later and thirteen days out from the
start of the season, and yes, we're asking a lot
of the same questions, but we got a lot of
answers in training camp and they weren't the answers we
were looking for. The Bengals have until four o'clock tomorrow

(14:49):
to whittle their roster down to fifty three. Then waiver
claims have to be in by noon on Tuesday or
on Wednesday, and practice odds finalized by four o'clock on Wednesday.
Then of course going into the first game week of
the season starting with Thursday, and then a week from

(15:09):
this Thursday, the Eagles and the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial
Field in Philadelphia for Week number one, So a lot
of moving parts still this year. Will kind of go
through the roster a little bit, look at position by position,
see how we're feeling and some of those answers that
we did get over training camp. But first we have

(15:30):
to talk about what the Cincinnati Reds did. They went
to Arizona, they lost twice, they got their face beat
in on Saturday, they found a way to avoid a
sweep yesterday. They are still very much in condition in
contention for the NL wild card spot, but it kind
of felt like the same old Reds that we have

(15:51):
seen for the last one hundred and forty plus games
or whatever it's been to this point, and they showed
that again. You'll hear from Terry Francona, You'll hear from
Spencer Steer, and I want to hear from you. Five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty is the phone number. Anything you want to
talk about from the weekend, whether that's the Reds, the Bengals, FC, Cincinnati,

(16:11):
you see coming up this week against Nebraska at Arrowhead
Stadium on Thursday night. Whatever it is, you have a
chance to call in and be a part of the
show five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty. You
can also tweeted me at audio more a U t
y E lmr E. Got a tweet here from coach
Matthew Chandler who wants to know my thoughts on the

(16:32):
boomer situation. I know that this happened Friday. I was
a little upset that I wasn't on the air to
talk about this on Friday. I'll try to maybe sneak
that in. I'll try to sneak in some Boomer size
and things coming up as well. Here on Sincy three sixty.
My name's Austin Ellmore in for Tony Pike today sort
of kind of you know how weird this show is

(16:55):
either way. Since He three sixty hour one brought to
you by Skyline Chili Home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen he.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
One and rushes it Hi very deep and gone aloud,
Spencer Steer with a three run home run and the
Reds having back poured it on in the eight five No.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
One Red Legs.

Speaker 7 (17:18):
Better late than never, and that was a no doubt
or right there, Spencer Steer realized that he had a
couple of strikeouts and a double coming into this, and
that I mean he got a fast ball of Juan
Virgo's sweet spot. Baby Bye bye Tommy throwing.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Chris Welch on the call as Spencer Steer plays long ball,
the man we call spency long balls or started from
the bottom. Spencer Steer a guy that I will never ever, ever,
ever ever give up on as a Cincinnati Red and
maybe as a professional baseball player ever. I am a
huge Spencer Steer fan. Good sign to see him hit

(17:59):
a fast ball out. He's not a great fastball hitter.
He normally destroys those breaking balls. But being able to
launch a fastball part of a big inning and a
big win for the Reds yesterday, six to one winners
over Arizona. They avoid the sweep and that was important.
Avoiding the sweep, I do think is important, But overall,
I think the series left a bad taste in your mouth. However,

(18:23):
it is good to get a little bit of positive
momentum going into another tough three game road set at
Chavez Ravine against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After the game,
Jim Day was interviewing Spencer Steer. Here is that conversation.

Speaker 8 (18:38):
Up until this point. Tough weekend for you guys. What's
this win mean for you?

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Yeah, good bounce back. It's Amadia baseball.

Speaker 9 (18:45):
We got our teeth kicked in yesterday and we had
a chance to come back today and do something about it.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
So, you know, proud of this group. We came out
and found a way to win one that when you.

Speaker 8 (18:54):
Guys busted out, including your three run home run, it
almost seems like a baseball your breast when you're you're
not scoring runs. Sigh of relief in the dugout? Did
you feel it?

Speaker 7 (19:04):
What's that like?

Speaker 9 (19:05):
I think really it started with Mart's you know, litaly
comer there. I felt like we scored ten at that moment. Yeah,
you know, just kind of getting one across, and Brady
gave us a great start today, gave us a chance
and yeah, able to tack on a couple at the
end was a huge.

Speaker 8 (19:19):
What is the infusion of productivity offensively and energy that
Marte has provided?

Speaker 9 (19:25):
Yeah, man, he's a great player and when when he goes,
it seems like we go you know, he's, he's he's
been incredible for us this year, man, and uh, you know,
just just happy for him and hopefully get to going.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
You mentioned Brady's singer.

Speaker 8 (19:36):
What's it like playing behind a guy like that that
seemingly was on every inning, every pitch.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Yeah, man, it's fun to play by him.

Speaker 9 (19:43):
He pitches with tempo, he always pounds his own and
he's he's been unreal for us lately too. So, uh,
you know, he gave us a great start, and you know,
we need this one to day.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
It was a big one.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Spencer Steer with Jim Day on fan Duel Sports Network
after the game yesterday, and he's right, they needed that
because if you go into this series in LA after
having just been swept for the first time all season
and missing another chance to pick up a game on
the Mets, you would probably feel an inordinate amount of

(20:18):
pressure on you. And I heard Moe talking about this
a little bit on Friday. I heard Drew and Tony
talking a little bit about this on Friday, and I
agree with Mo that the pressure should be on the Reds,
and it's not just on the Reds. From Bob Cassilini
to Phil and Nick Crawl and those guys. It should

(20:42):
be on Terry Francona, It should be on the starting pitchers,
It should be on the players on this team, on
every coach. Every person in that building should feel pressure.
From Tommy Thrall to Jamie Ramsey, to the clubhouse guys
to the ball boys. Everybody in that organization should feel pressure.

(21:07):
Because it has been thirty years since you advanced in
the playoffs, and because you do have players capable of
getting you there, and you have players capable of putting
together a run in the playoffs. That's important. And on
top of that, the moves that have been made to
put you in this position. The Reds have made moves

(21:29):
that suggest they are trying to be aggressive, that they
are trying to win. We haven't always agreed with those moves,
and those moves haven't always worked, but they have taken
some swings, and that is so important. It sets a
tone for the entire organization and it does put pressure
squarely on the players. Terry Francona didn't leave his cozy

(21:53):
home in Arizona to come to Cincinnati to go five
hundred and miss the playoffs. He should feel some pressure.
The player should feel pressure that he came out of
retirement to be here, and the red spent a lot
of money on Terry Francona. The organization should feel pressure,

(22:14):
but it's how you react to pressure that ultimately determines
who you are and what you are. And there are
a lot of young players on this team, many of
whom haven't experienced the pressure of a playoff push, haven't
experienced what it's like. And unfortunately, watching this weekend, it

(22:37):
was kind of the same stuff that we've always seen
with them, even with you know, Terry Francona, who I thought,
made some decisions on Friday Night's game that left me
scratching my head. Most notably, let's go back to the
late innings Friday extra innings. He has Jose Travino bunt

(22:59):
with Brian Hayes on second base. You're the road team.
It doesn't make sense for the visiting team to play
for one run in extra innings, especially the way that
the Reds bullpen has been That made no sense to me. Now,
he got bailed out because the Diamondbacks couldn't make the
play and key Brian Hayes ended up scoring on a

(23:22):
throwing air, but then right back the Reds gave it
right back to them and then not pinch hitting or
pinch running for Jose Travino, he gets gunned down at
home plate. Arizona wins the next inning. Those are decisions
made by the manager that I disagree with, and decisions

(23:45):
made by the manager that I think really weren't difficult
decisions to make, and yet he did the exact opposite
of what most baseball logic would tell you to do.
That to me is a concern, and it makes me
wonder is he feeling the pressure to the point where
maybe his judgment is a little bit fonned. Here's Terry

(24:08):
Francona talking with the media after Friday night's loss.

Speaker 6 (24:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (24:13):
I mean, loss is a loss, and they all hurt.
I think when they end like this, it's a little fresher.
When you guys get here, you know that that parts
a little harder. But we better flush it quick because
we've got a game tomorrow at five five ten, so.

Speaker 6 (24:30):
We will.

Speaker 8 (24:31):
Great players tend to make great plays that play by
Carol from your vantage point, how'd.

Speaker 11 (24:37):
You see it?

Speaker 6 (24:39):
You're talking about the throw it on?

Speaker 10 (24:40):
Yeah, I mean he's a good player, and you know,
part of me I was fighting myself with do we
run for Trevino? And I didn't think that was fair
to put the kid in a game in the tenth
inning with a ghost run around second trying to catch
ass Craft.

Speaker 8 (24:57):
You know, I was really fighting Allen for Latel's pretty
obvious that he just did not have command, particularly this
split early on, and I.

Speaker 10 (25:05):
Thought from the first pitch of the game it looked
like it was a battle for him, and he was
kind of bobbing and weaving a little bit, and you know,
and then he just he left. I think it was
a breaking ball and for the three year on Homer,
and that was a damage. But anytime you see a
pitch count that high that early, it's it's not going
the way you wanted.

Speaker 6 (25:23):
To anything, Okay, But our squad's bothering him.

Speaker 10 (25:32):
Pretty excuse, well, it's been it's been a few days.
But I mean, I actually, from talking to him, I
thought he was doing better. When he hit the ball
to right, I thought he was just protective a little
because it was a double and I was watching him
score and I was like, oh my, you know, it
didn't look real good.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
That's Terry Francona. After the loss Friday night. A couple
of things with that number. One Will Banfield, I understand
and had not yet played in the big leagues. But
he's here and he's played baseball his whole life, and
you have got to be able to balance. Giving your
team a chance to win should carry more weight than

(26:17):
putting pressure on a young, inexperienced player or asking him
to do something difficult. Newsflash. In life, you're asked to
do things you don't want to do, and things that
make you uncomfortable, and things you may not be good at.
You're asked to do that all the time. Major League

(26:38):
baseball is no different. Jose Travino cannot run. Everybody on
Earth knows it, and yet he goes on that flyball
to right field and Corbyn Carrol guns him down. A
different runner produces a different result. The Reds could have
the lead and thus could have won that game Friday night.

(26:59):
These are the little decisions and the little moments where
you feel the pressure and you start to learn about
who this team is. Now for the most part, they've
showed you who they are, and you look at Friday's game,
you look at Saturday's game. Zach Lyttel as Fran Cota
mentioned he just didn't have it was a struggle for him,

(27:22):
and that's going to happen, right. The strength of this
team is their starting pitching. How many times have you
heard that over the course of this season, A lot,
A lot, a lot. The strength of this team is
their starting pitching. Well, over the course of the Big
one sixty two, there's gonna be some starts where your
starter doesn't have it. That happens, that's normal. Zach Lettel

(27:47):
didn't have it on Friday night, Andrew Abbott didn't have
it on Saturday, and so when that happens, what you've
got to be able to do is limit the damage.
And they didn't really have the opportunity to do that
because their bullpen has been so taxed. And then have
an offense that can keep you in the game, and
they couldn't do that for either one of those. Couldn't

(28:10):
do it, couldn't give you a chance. Now, obviously they
had a chance on Friday night, but Saturday was a
feeble effort and it was looking that way Sunday again
until they exploded late. But that's the thing about this
team is I don't believe that they have the full
slate to be able to get this done, and so

(28:30):
now you're relying on the New York Mets to fall
on their face. Instead of the Reds being a team
that puts the pressure on the Mets. The Mets face
a lot of pressure, don't get me wrong, they do.
But instead of the Reds playing good, clean baseball to
put pressure on the Mets, the Reds are just trying
to survive night by night and hope that the Mets
screw up too. And that's just that's so frustrating because

(28:55):
I don't feel like if the starting pitchers perform poorly
that the offense can get the team back in the game.
I don't feel that way. I don't have any sort
of confidence about that. And that is just no way
to live as a baseball fanly knowing the importance of

(29:15):
every moment of every game, of every pitch of every
inning of every start. Now, hopefully those guys return to
form the next time around, but offensively, the lack of
consistency continues to be an issue. It costs them on Friday,
it costs them on Saturday, and at this point in

(29:37):
the season, with the makeup that you have and who
you are, losing series on the road to teams that
are below you in the standings and teams that you
have already swept this season is completely and utterly unacceptable.
That level of play is unacceptable if you want to
be a playoff team, period, point blank. And it's just

(30:03):
another maddening, frustrating, angering series that Red's fans had to endure.
And oh, by the way, let's go play the Dodgers.
Not going to be easy this week. Your phone calls
next five, one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty. This
is Cincy three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty. Sincy

(30:23):
three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty. Austin Olmore with you, Monday,
August the twenty fifth, almost fully back to football. Can't
wait Bearcat's in action later this week Thursday night at
Arrowhead Stadium. Moegger will be there for the pre and
post game. Tony Pike will be on the sideline for

(30:44):
that game with Dan Horde, Jim Kelly and others. Very
much looking forward to that. And I'm rooting for my guy,
Scott Saderfield. I'm a Scott Saderfield apologist. I don't know
if I go that far, but uh, let's go to
the phones five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
Let's talk to Brandon in Indy. Brandon, what's up, Hey, Austin,

(31:05):
how are you doing? I'm all right, man, what's going on?

Speaker 12 (31:08):
I left you talk back so you can hear that.
I hope it's good. I just wanted to say, first
of all, with Trey Henderson, maybe I'm looking at this wrong.
First of all, I think it's very disrespectful to the organization.
I think it's disrespectful to the fans for one thing. Austin,
he's not I'm sure he has not practiced at all
with the teams. So even if he does sign, he's
going to give him a shape, which maybe he has.

(31:29):
I just I don't like the way this is going.
And maybe the Bengals have it handled it well.

Speaker 13 (31:33):
Now.

Speaker 11 (31:34):
I don't know their defense on this.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
I really don't.

Speaker 12 (31:37):
And as far as the Reds are concerned, Austin, I
just I can't see the playoffs I think I think
you said they just I just don't think they have enough.
They try, and I like the move of a key
Brian Hayes, but they didn't get that power back. And
I think it was even talked about with Mondays with
Marty with Tom Brenneman. I didn't get a chance to
listen because I had something else to do, but.

Speaker 6 (31:59):
I they didn't get that power back.

Speaker 12 (32:01):
And I understand what Suarez a feedbacks, probably wanted too much.
But you know, but I mean, if the Reds would
have at least tried to get him, maybe they did.
I don't know, but it just we just we're not
making noise here.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Yeah, you just don't have a lot of confidence in
their offense. And Brandon, thank you for the phone call.
And it's been the same thing for a while. It's
been the same thing a lot, over and over and
over again. What exactly are they going to be and
how are they going to address the biggest inefficiency and
the biggest need on this team? Again, we know that

(32:33):
their offensive philosophy is not to hit home runs. It
is to put the ball in play. And I often
have said that I think that's backwards considering the ballpark
that they play in, but that's their belief. And so
this is the result of trying to build a team
in that image. You don't have a lot of dudes
that can hit home runs. You have to rely on

(32:55):
stringing hits together. That's the opposite of the biggest trend
in baseball, which has been home runs and launch angle
and all that sort of stuff. Being able to pull
the ball in the air. Like it just goes against
all of that. And now, if you do look at
the best teams in baseball, what do they all have
in common? They lead in batting average, so they are

(33:16):
getting guys on base, they are consistently hitting, but they
also have guys in their lineup that can consistently hit
the ball out of the ballpark. The guy that was
supposed to be that for the Reds is Elie de
la Cruz and he's hadn't hit a home run and
lord knows how long fifty games something like that. Steer

(33:37):
is coming on strong, but he hasn't had the same
production and started the year hurt. And who else is
supposed to be a home run guy? Christian Carnassi on
strand he's a triple A Weelvi Marte has got two
Little League home runs this year. I guess that's something,
but like they just don't value it, and I think
it's a flawed way to build a team. The Bengals

(34:00):
and Hendrickson are concerned. I think both sides are right.
Like Trey deserves a raise, the Bengals probably don't want
to give in and give him money, guaranteed money past
the first couple of years for a number of reasons, including,
but not limited to, his age. And I can understand
both sides of that. But the problem is for the Bengals,

(34:21):
they haven't they haven't done enough in free agency and
the draft to feel comfortable letting Trey Hendrickson walk. So
now you're kind of painted into a corner of we
don't have a choice, and you do have the flexibility
to be able to commit to that, and with the
restructures that you have ready to go for Burrow, it

(34:45):
makes sense to be able to take a little bit
if you consider it a risk giving Tray more that
guaranteed money down the line, and if you're serious about winning,
that might be the only option you have left. But
the Bengals, in Bengals fashion, will more than likely waited
out and wait for Trey Hendrickson to blink. Let's go
back to the phones. Let's go to Mike in La.

(35:07):
What's up?

Speaker 10 (35:07):
Mike?

Speaker 11 (35:09):
Hey? What tillopatty Monday? As my friend Jeff would say.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
That's right.

Speaker 11 (35:13):
Actually, I typically call it Stormy Monday.

Speaker 14 (35:16):
It's a great move song, Stormy Monday. AnyWho, Uh, Tony's
off again? Huh yep, Yeah, I tell you.

Speaker 11 (35:29):
I just go foot before I get to the Red.
I really think that the that the host. They're gonna
surprise a lot of people. Be sure. I think you're
gonna win that division. He had an off year last year.
They had some bad injury to the receiver they they got,
they didn't get him back, but the receiving court looks
much better now. I don't know about the old line,

(35:50):
but they may have as good a defense as there
isn't football. They got like an all Pro, two All
Pro corners and an All Pro safety. They got it
one tough, So I think I think detections are going
to make some voices regarding the Reds. My Google's messed
up and I couldn't get a line on the game.
Do you have any idea the Reds could be favored

(36:12):
on the road tonight because Hunter's pitching against Emma chan Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
I'll see if I can pull that up really quick.
But there's probably a decent chance of that.

Speaker 11 (36:24):
That's a good home doggar right there. It could be anyway, I.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Got it as the Dodgers minus one five.

Speaker 11 (36:33):
Well, she has a pretty good pitcher, but he as
good as Hunt Grans. But then they got they got
the bats, like you said. But Austin, I swore months
he's out again. One of the better third basements in baseball,
a good thirty to thirty five home run guy a
year for a long time, plus a good defender. Tommy
Edmund's out, super all for futility guy, DK Hernanders is out,

(36:54):
all tremendous utility guy. Their second basement was supposed to
be their guy. All you're a hass on. Tim Heath
out again, I mean, and then there's ten pitchers on
the d l.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
So so you're telling me the Reds are catching them
at a good time.

Speaker 11 (37:10):
I think so. Well, the Doggis' pitching has been bad
all year now. They have been hitting like crazy lately,
but that just shows you their depth in the miners
because they keep bringing guys up to fill all these holes.
But I think the Reds got a good chance. But again,
it's that long ball that they are so good at
hitting the Dodgers that can put you in the grades.

(37:30):
So and Will Smith's a real good Catcher, there's no question.
So but I think we got a chance to pull
We're not going to get swept. There's no way the
Reds aren't going to get swept. They might even pull
out two out of three. I don't think they'll one.
I don't think they'll sweep them, but I think they
had a good chance at two out of three. I
don't see why on because compared to the Dodgers, the
Reds are for almost injury free with the Outwitt inception

(37:55):
of the air significance of Lodola.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
And I do believe Lodolo is going to pitch on
Wednesday into the Dodgers.

Speaker 11 (38:02):
Yeah, I mean I did google that yesterday and they
they said he was on the ten day DL or
the fifteen day DL, but maybe that was an old
old info or something.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Yeah, No, he's still he still officially is. But I
think they can activate him Wednesday. I heard that that's
the plan. I would have to double check on that
because again I wasn't around this weekend, but I think
they're still aiming on Wednesday to pitch Nicklodolo, which would
be a big, big lift if he continues down the
path he was on prior to getting hurt.

Speaker 11 (38:31):
Right, Oh yeah, big time. And he's just critical to
that state starting rotation critical and you get to see uh,
Clayton Kershall pitch them arow and then they got the show.
Hay scheduled to start Saturday in the third game, but
this was keeping TBD for the Reds. I don't know
who they're starting in the third game. Yeah, I hopefully

(38:54):
it will be somebody to get the job done anyway,
that's all I had, Pal, Thanks for the time.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Yeah, Mike, thanks for calling.

Speaker 15 (38:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
I think the plan is to go Abbott and then
Martina or excuse me, Green and then Martinez and then
Lodolo on Wednesday, and Lodolo will face Otani on Wednesday,
who the Reds did pretty well against last time. And
then as you mentioned, it was Shean for the Dodgers
tomorrow or tonight, and tomorrow it's Martinez up against Clayton Kershaw,

(39:23):
and Kershaw has just been filthy as of late. So
that's gonna be a tough challenge in and of itself,
just with the way Martinez has been performing in the
way that Kershaw has been performing, that's just not going
to be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but
I do believe I do believe the plan would be
for the Reds to start Lodolo Wednesday, but it is
still technically TBD. We'll learn more about that for a

(39:47):
Postman Law injury report coming up in just a little bit.
But now I was looking at the team stats between
the Reds and the Dodgers. The Dodgers are seventy four
and fifty seven, the Reds are sixty eight and sixty three.
The Dodgers have a higher batting average of two point
fifty three compared to the Reds two forty seven. The

(40:08):
Reds have hit one hundred and twenty eight home runs
this season, the Dodgers one hundred and ninety six. The
Reds have walked four hundred and six times this season,
the Dodgers four hundred and forty five. The Dodgers have
more strikeouts, more walks, more homers, a worse er, a

(40:34):
worse whip, and have scored almost one hundred more runs
than the Reds. Kind of amazing and again kind of
highlighting the importance of being able to hit home runs
and what that does to a team. In their odds
five three, seven, four, nine, fifteen to thirty phone lines

(40:55):
continue to be open about ten minutes from right now,
we'll talk to James Rapine from All Bengals Bengals Talk
as well, Locked on Bengals. He does a little bit
of everything. We'll get his thoughts on what happened on
Saturday and this roster moving forward, looking forward to that.
But we'll take a break. We'll be back. This is
since he three to sixty hour one, brought to you
by Skyline Chile on the Home of the Bengals ESPN

(41:17):
fifteen thirty UK, ESPN fifteen thirty. This is since he
three sixty. My name is Austin Elmore. Coming up Jeff

(41:38):
Carr at two o'clock. But first James repeated one talkbacks.
After that, Moegger stops by for quick hits and locks. Nope,
just quick hits. You get we have to come up
with a button or something for me, dreel it's turned
my mic off or something. Every time I mentioned that,
it just makes me sad every time you say it.
I don't know why I keeped it's been like over,

(41:58):
it's been over a year, well over ere, I don't
I don't get somebody step up to the plate and
bring back locks of the night.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
Please.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Yeah, well, good luck with that, please. Mike Hilton was
released today by the Miami Dolphins. Little reunion time in Cincinnati.
You know, if he could play safety, maybe, but I
don't know if he can. I know one thing about
Mike Hilton is he can't cover anybody one on one.
So I don't know what he would really bring to

(42:26):
the table other than being a veteran leader and a
potential backup safety. That doesn't really excite me. I heard
on a podcast, the NFL Podcast with Ari Meyrov, who
had our guy Joe Goodberry on. He was talking about
the Dalton Reisner situation. Reisner's still a free agent. I

(42:49):
believe he's gone on some other visits and Ari said
in the podcast that the offer on the tables from
the Bengals to Dalton Reisner is a round the veteran minimum,
which he said they would have to bump up obviously
if they want to get Dalton Reisner. Understandable if you're

(43:10):
Dalton Reisner, and that's probably part of the reason why
you go on other visits to try to drive the
price up and get away from the veteran minimum. And
he does have a bit of an argument because of
the way specifically that he performed against the pass according
to a couple of different metrics. However, as Charlie Goldsmith
has outlined in the past, Dalton Reisner was a big

(43:31):
part of the reason the Minnesota Viking season failed last
year because of seeing ghosts for Sam Darnold, and if
he was so good against the pass, Minnesota would have
re upped, but instead they traded for a guard, invested

(43:52):
eighty million dollars into one, spent a draft pick on one,
and got rid of Dalton Reisner. So there is something
to it of Like, I know, some people are very
high on him, and I believe that he would be
at least better than the guys that they currently have.
But it's not like they're bringing in Bobby Williams or

(44:12):
Max Montoya or one of those guys to come in
and play guard. Either way, they're just not in great shape.
And the thing about the Bengals that we'll get into
a little bit with James, and my biggest takeaway from
seeing what I saw, and I'm watching the game again
on the studio in the studio, I guess I should

(44:34):
say watching the game for the first time, is that
the bottom of this roster forty five to fifty three
is as bad as it has been maybe in the
Borough era, outside of twenty twenty. Like those guys that
played for the Bengals on Saturday, yikes, dude, And I

(45:00):
just don't understand how the Bengals feel like this is
the way we want to go. And yes, teams are
starting to cut guys and the wave a while will
be open, but the Bengals are seventeenth on the priority list,
so there's no guarantee that you're gonna get the guys
you want. It's just hard to fathom that this is
how they this is what they believe is the best

(45:22):
way to build this roster in the bottom of that group.
I understand not every team is a strong bottom of
the roster, but there are teams that have that are
worse than the Bengals, that have a stronger bottom of
the roster than this group. And it it's one of
those things that it could come back to bite them.
We'll take a break, we'll come back, James Rapeene joins us. Next,

(45:42):
this is ESPN fifteen thirty kwise Cincinnati.

Speaker 16 (45:46):
Make us the number one preset on your car radio
and on the free knew and improved. iHeartRadio ad free
never sounded so good. ESPN fifteen thirty if you're fifty
five or older and into that whole.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
Saving and see three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored
in part by Cinci Shirts, Cincy Shirts, all Cinci all day.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (46:12):
Yes, indeed it is.

Speaker 11 (46:13):
Hi.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
Hello, and welcome into our number two of Cincy three
sixty here on the home of the Cincinnati Bengals. And
let's talk about the Cincinnati Bengals with the man who
covers him in all forms and fashions for Sports Illustrated
for Cincinnati Bengals, talk on YouTube. He writes a book,
he does a podcast, he does all that stuff, and

(46:34):
more importantly, he's my friend. Hi, James Rapine, I'm wonderful.
Where are you at? What are you doing right now?

Speaker 6 (46:44):
I'm in my office. I just finished recording the latest
episode of Lockdown Bengals, and now I'm looking at a
receipts that I need to throw away.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
How are you okay?

Speaker 2 (46:54):
All right, I'm good. I'm hanging in there. I admit
I didn't watch a ton of the game on Saturday.
I know you're there. That's your job. Was there any
takeaways from the Bengals getting their face bashed in by
the calls?

Speaker 15 (47:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (47:11):
First one, it's your job too. You need to be
in this with me, in the trenches. In the trenches,
I was.

Speaker 2 (47:19):
I was officiating a wedding on Saturday.

Speaker 6 (47:22):
I saw that you looked really well dressed, and I
think you had a better time then the Bengals did.
Then probably I did until about five o'clock or so
whenever I got out of pay court. Oh look it.
Not much can be taken from the results. I think
that's the first and foremost. But you can get an
idea of roster wise, what they're doing, what they're not doing.

Speaker 12 (47:46):
I'll break some news.

Speaker 6 (47:47):
Mitch Tinsley made the Bengals fifty three man roster. How
did we get confirmation of that? Because he dressed and
he didn't play a snap. Yeah, And so those are
the type of takeaways for preseason game number three. Not
necessarily the result. I couldn't care less really about forty
one to fourteen either way. But some of the roster

(48:08):
projections are easier to make afterwards.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Let's talk about that. Let's start with the offensive line,
clearly a position that's in flux, probably something that they'll
look at the waiver wire with. But how do you
anticipate the offensive line room looks by four o'clock tomorrow
when the cuts have to be in.

Speaker 6 (48:27):
I think they keep none. And and part of why
I put the roster together together the way I did
is because I do anticipate some changes. I do anticipate
them making a move or too. Maybe it is adult
and Rise and it's coming in here and helping them
at guard, or maybe they add a swing tackle on
the waiver wire or an interior alignment on the waiver wire.

(48:49):
But as of now, it's a lot of guys that
you know are going to make it right. The starters Orlando, Amarius,
Ted and Lucas and Dylan, and then after that, well,
Cody Ford's a lock. Jalen Rivers is a rookie, he's
a lock. I think Matt Lee is going to be
a lock. And then it's a lot of question marks.
And I gave the edge to Devin Cochran for that
final spot, but it is is Seth McLaughlin. Did he

(49:15):
do enough to beat out Cam Grandy did Andrew Poker,
who I thought was interesting and played pretty well. Did
he do enough to beat out of Cam Grandy? Is
that fifth tight end?

Speaker 15 (49:25):
That?

Speaker 6 (49:25):
That's what is going to be interesting is to see
the Bengals approach here knowing that they want to add
to their offensive line room, that they want to make
changes there, that they want to make changes at multiple spots.
Will they go light at those spots, Will they keep
the guys they have, or will they start the process
to sneak them onto the practice squad. I think that

(49:46):
approach is going to be something that's that's really intriguing
Tomorrow at four o'clock.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
Is Jalen Rivers the backup right guard?

Speaker 11 (49:55):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (49:55):
Yeah, as of today he is. I think so now
you could argue in a game that Cody Ford is
your backup at four spots, and that's what scary. He's
your swing tackle and and so you're gonna ask him.
And that's not an insult to Cody Ford. I think
it's a testament to how much they value him. But

(50:16):
my lord, it's a lot to say, hey, all right,
make sure you stay sharp at both left guard and
right guard, and offensive tackle on the right side and
left tackle as well. Like that, that's just a lot
to ask of Cody Ford. And so you could look
at it either way. You could say, man, they really
need a swing tackle, which would make sense, or they

(50:36):
really need another guard after losing Courtell Volson, and that
that Courtell Wolson injury was a pretty big injury. Even
though people aren't necessarily high on him, their depth took
a major hit. And so yeah, I think as of
now Jalen Rivers is your backup guard. But they want
to take some pressure off the rookie and secure that depth.

(51:00):
So we'll see if they can do that over the
next few days.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
Speaking of rookies, Dylan Fairchild, it's always a good thing
when nobody's really talking about you as an offensive lineman.
He has done a great job of kind of keeping
the noise to a minimum because of the way he's
performed in training camp. What have you seen from him
in terms of how good the growth from day one
to where he's at now as he gets set for

(51:24):
his first NFL training or his first NFL season.

Speaker 3 (51:27):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (51:29):
There's a lot to like, and I it's it's kind
of funny because the Bengals pick him, and I talk
to some people around the league over you know, the
weeks and months following the draft and they're like, yeah,
like we really liked him as a prospect, just not
sure he's NFL ready, And he's looked every bit of
NFL ready. It's been a limited sample size, it's been

(51:52):
five possessions, but he's checking everything that you want him
to check to this point, and he's one of those
those guys. I know. I'm really excited to watch in
Cleveland and watch play and just see if he can
bring true stability to that left guard spot because my
expectations weren't super high for this season for him coming

(52:14):
into training camp and they're still not going to skyrocket
over a couple of preseason drives. But what if he
gives you lightly above average left guard players are rookie Like,
if he was able to do that in this offense,
pass first and puts a lot of pressure on you
as an offensive lineman, that forecasts pretty well, And I

(52:36):
do think that it's possible for that to be the case.
So yeah, I think he's exceeded my expectations to this point.
I'm really excited to see what he does when the
games matter here in thirteen days.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bengals have
repeatedly said that they trust what their eyes see in practice.
You are there at practice every day, do you agree
with that?

Speaker 6 (53:01):
Well, I agree that they've been better in practice, but
it that way, and so will that translate to the game.
I don't think they know. I'm not sure anyone knows.
And why they've been so bad and I mean so
bad in the preseason is that it beats me. And
it could be as simple as all, well, we didn't

(53:22):
have this guy or that guy, or you know the
scheme thing.

Speaker 3 (53:25):
I get that.

Speaker 6 (53:26):
I also think that they were playing with an energy
and an aggressiveness in practice that I didn't necessarily see
from the first team defense in the preseason. Could be something,
could be nothing, But that's a note that I have,
And so yeah, it's a huge question mark, and it's
something that there's no reason for me not to think

(53:48):
that they'll be better than last year because the bar
was so low. But my goodness, were they bad in
the preseason? Much better than that in practice? The answer
is probably some in the middle. They're not a top
ten defense, they're not going to be a bottom three defense,
and where they land is going to depend on a
bunch of factors. Trey Hendrickson's future are a bunch of things.

(54:10):
But yeah, I think that they're going to be better
than what we saw in the preseason, which, like I said,
is a pretty low bar.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
Has anything that's happened over the last month changed the
way you feel or the outcome or the timeline of
the answer to the Trey Hendrickson question, No, no, I.

Speaker 6 (54:31):
Think the timeline I mean, and this is annoying. I
tried to speak it into existence when training camp started
and he he and ultimately reported. But even before camp
I was like, all right, well get this done before
August twenty second, I was basically like it was after
Mike said he was confident. I was like, get it done.
So Trey and the Bengals have two weeks of practice

(54:54):
and well we're past that. We're past my artificial deadline
that I tried to speak in the existence and they
didn't want to take my advice. So I would be
surprised if anything gets done this week. Doesn't feel like
it is going to. But I'll say this, I still
think something gets done. I hate that it goes down
to the wire like this. It shouldn't go down to

(55:15):
the wire like this. But I do know that the
Bengals want Trey. I do know that they have made
him substantial offers, and I know he wants to be
in Cincinnati, and I would be really shocked if they
traded him. So all of the science point to, well,
if one party wants a new deal, the other party
is willing to give him a new deal. One party

(55:36):
wants to be in Cincinnati and they want to keep
him here. I think they find common enough ground to
get a deal done, hopefully sooner rather than later. ADI
let's say Thursday. Thursday would be a nice day to
get that deal done. From my content standpoint, I'll say.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
That, yeah, because it does really at the end of
the day, all revolve around you from a safety perspective.

Speaker 6 (56:00):
Get into the weekend. Don't take it into the weekend.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
Yeah, you don't want a Friday news dump on Labor
Day weekend, nobody wants that.

Speaker 6 (56:07):
Nobody wants or Saturday or Sunday got fantasy drafts? Fantasy?

Speaker 2 (56:13):
Yeah, Come on the secondary and specifically the safety position.
Dejon Anthony got a little bit banged up on Saturday.
What do we know about him and what do we
know about the plan for that room.

Speaker 6 (56:27):
I don't think it's super serious for Dajon. It's a hamstring.
We'll see on the severity, but my initial thought here
is that it's not super serious. The could have throwed
up Sunday and it'd be much worse than it was
initially on Saturday. Who knows. There's obviously the possibility of that,
but I pitched TJ's rules and this is not something

(56:50):
I would have even said a week ago as the
fourth safety, and I put him in there on the
fifty three man roster, and honestly, Austin, I think that
they're looking for, say anyway, and they want to be
better in that area, and so maybe this is all
for nothing and they find someone else. But if you're
looking at that room and you say, all right, well,
Geno Stone is our starter, Jordan Battle is our starter.

(57:12):
Tyson Anderson, we clearly like him as our third safety
and someone that can back up those thoughts. And that's
what I've been told how they view him. He's obviously
really good on special teams, but what do you want
your fourth safety to be? A guy that knows where
he's going, a guy that's going to hit hard, be
aggressive and is really really good on special teams. Well,
to me, that's PJ. Jewles, And so we'll see if

(57:34):
he actually makes it, but would be a heck of
a story. And I have him as of now making
the cut tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (57:40):
Talking to James Rapine from Bengals Talk dot com, locked
on Bengals and Cincinnati Bengals Talk on YouTube as well.
Are there any names out there that Bengals fans should
be keeping an eye on as potential cut candidates? Actually
we saw one today Mike Hilton getting released by the
Miami Dolphins. Should the Bengals adventure in a guy like

(58:00):
Mike Hilton or are there any other names that Bengals
fan should keep an eye out on over the next
twenty six twenty seven hours.

Speaker 6 (58:09):
I would always endorse being in the Mike Hilton camp now,
so I think his role would be different and would
have to be different in Cincinnati than it was during
his first four years here. Absolutely, But could he help?
I think he could help. Now The question is would
be worth it to have him as a guy who's
really going to rush the passer not necessarily covers me

(58:32):
when you put him at safety and you go that route,
I do wonder, but I'm not sure you're putting thirty
year old Mike Hilton on a bunch of special teams.
And Tyson Anderson is not someone that you're taking away
because he's your fastest safety by far, so is he
better than than PJS? You know, you get into the
whole roster shuffle there, so I I'm not sure I

(58:54):
see that. I think the ship has kind of sailed
from a Bengals perspective on Mike Hilton, but I personally
would be open to it because I think he could
help you in sub packages and different things there. But
those are the conversations that they're having, and I think
that there are some clear areas that the Bengals are
going to or at least are hoping to address. Safety
being one of them, defensive tackle being one of them,

(59:16):
offensive line, whether it's a swing tackle or guard, maybe both,
but at least one of those I think they need
to address. And the good news is is I get
the feeling that they feel that way. Like for months
we've been talking about the offensive line. I think now
with the Cordell injury, they do feel like they need
to address that best and everyone probably felt like they

(59:38):
should have anyway. But I do think that that's something
they're going to be really looking closely at. Maybe it
is a Dalton Reisner. I don't think that ship has sailed.
I think that's still something that they're open to. I
also think that from a veteran safety standpoint, I question
whether they would go after that big name that anybody,

(59:58):
you know, Dustin Simmons, some of them like that. I
do wonder about that because I'm just not sure they're
looking for a starting safety. I think they're more looking
for a reserve safety that can give them what they're
looking for behind battle and behind you know Stone. Now,
whether you agree with that or not is something entirely different.

(01:00:19):
But I do think that they could claim a safety
versus maybe going out and signing a veteran offensive lineman
that we're aware of than we know.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
The other thing that I found interesting, James is the
two men tried to break into pay Court Stadium to
steal a barbecue smoker. Have you ever stolen anything or
anything barbecue related in your life?

Speaker 6 (01:00:45):
I'm trying to have I ever stolen a barbecue sandwich
at a cook down? No, I probably haven't, right, it
was probably handed to me with a nice side of
macaroni and chee and plenty of other sizes. You're making
me hungry, now, are you? Is what I'm asking? Uh? No,
unless it's on the basketball court. Feeling it from Tony Pike.

(01:01:08):
I will say this though, Why in the world did
they think they could get away like assuming that it's
how I picture it with a smoker.

Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
Like you're just gonna walk out the gate with a smoker?

Speaker 6 (01:01:22):
Do you think, Oh, my goodness, like you think that
like man like that is there's got to be something
smaller that you could get right and make it out with.
Maybe not, and maybe they resorted to that. I'm not
going to give them many pointers. But I read that
story and I was like, that was what you You

(01:01:43):
got it, You got over the fence and that's what
heyve me your hand.

Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
That is unbelievable.

Speaker 14 (01:01:53):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Last point you mentioned, Dalton Reisner. I heard Ari Meirov
earlier today say that the Bengals offer to him is
right away around the veteran minimum. What is your reaction
to that? How do you think that whole thing ends?

Speaker 6 (01:02:07):
I heard that prior to I heard that over the
weekend that they are fitting veteran minimum. It was more
of a come here and be a backup b Cortel
Bolson's replacement, I mean, is sort of the logic there,
and what I would say, it's twofold Roe. We haven't
seen Dalton did any other offers anywhere else? I know

(01:02:31):
there's been some reports of what we haven't seen it yet.
Maybe he's visiting Seattle today. But two, if I'm Dalton,
if I don't have any other offers, this is a
place that I'd want to come because I do think
you can win that starting job very very quickly, right,
And so if I were the Bengals, I probably would
have had Dalton rise around my roster months ago. They

(01:02:52):
don't view him that way. They view him differently, maybe
the entire NFL views him differently. I do think he
would help them. So those listening are Bengals fans, you
still probably want Dunton Riisner and I do get the
frustration of the league minimum ish deal because let's just
say they offer him one year two million bucks probably
gets it done, and instead they go League minimum and

(01:03:14):
it's not done. And so now we're wondering what they're
gonna do at Guard with cuts looming in the next
twenty seven hours.

Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
Or so.

Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Have you watched the Jerry Jones documentary on Netflix?

Speaker 15 (01:03:26):
Not all of it.

Speaker 6 (01:03:27):
I'm watching some of it now. He has just fired
Jimmy Johnson and they're in that next season.

Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
There's a scene when he talks about buying the Dallas
Cowboys where him and the previous owner we're squabbling over
what ultimately was three hundred thousand dollars, and finally the
guy bum Bright says to him, I'll flip a coin
for it, and Jerry Jones says, the flip of a coin.
I lost three hundred thousand dollars, but I bought the

(01:03:56):
Dallas Cowboys. Is that not like kind of what we're
talking about here with an offensive lineman that doesn't want
the veteran minimum, like between the veteran minimum basically and
two million dollars in the grand scheme of things, and
basically what we're talking.

Speaker 6 (01:04:08):
About for sure, for sure, and and maybe too with Tray.
With Tray is a good point. And I do think
that things were true. I mean, you're just talking about
such high dollars, But I don't know about the gap.
I don't know how close you are with that. But yeah,

(01:04:28):
with a lot of these things, it's like, all right,
well is that couple of million? Get this done and
avoid all the headaches over the past few months, like like,
is it is it that close where it's a couple
of million or is it tens of millions? I don't know,
but I think it's interesting with Reisner. Yeah, man, I mean,
if you're you're bringing them in. I mean, I'll tell
you this, Austen. I thought this was going to be

(01:04:50):
very much like Trent Brown was last year, where they
brought him in, gave him a physical, and in this
case they worked out Dalton Reisner and signed him. Yeah,
and and they did all those things. He passed the physical,
had a good workout, and then that was the offer,
and he was like, well, you know, and it's just
it's just underwhelming enough. I think to wait if you'r

(01:05:11):
Dalton Riser, because he's been waiting this song at this point.
So yeah, I totally get your point. What's the coin?
That's what? Can you imagine Mike Brown doing that? All right,
don't we're gonna put this coin two million or a
league of minimum. Damn, he'd be so mad if it
was if it was two million.

Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
Anyway, Uh, what do you got coming up. I know
you're like the Michael Jordan of content when it comes
to the Cincinnati Bengals. Obviously a lot coming up, and
you've asked the Bengals to kind of revolve themselves around
your content schedule. What is your content schedule? What can
people look forward to this week?

Speaker 6 (01:05:48):
Look at that. I'm gonna have strut just all day,
like the Michael Jordan's baby. He didn't say Lebron, he
said Michael, the real goat. Yeah, I uh, I'm gonna
have plenty on cutdown. Of course, I do have a
tray idea that I'm thinking about dropping later in the week,
assuming things are calm. That may or may not involve

(01:06:09):
Jerry Jones at Bengals Talk dot com. But yeah, plenty
plenty coming your way. Like I mentioned to you, I
just recorded locked on Bengals, So that is up our
roster prediction for the fifty three and plenty of thoughts
on who they could add and who they may add
or target positionally as well. James, thank you, Thanks, Audie,

(01:06:33):
You're the man that is.

Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
James Rapine Bengals Talk and CINCINNTI Bengals Talk on YouTube talkbacks.
You next, ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
Yeah, your chance at three sixty is backed on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
Talkbacks. Welcome back in since he three sixty ESPN fifteen
thirty hour two and talkbacks brought to you by our
friends at Cincy's Shirts, who just dropped a new Okay
Boomer T shirt that is just brilliant. Shout out to
Boomer asiasin Drew Bison. Before we get started, I have

(01:07:39):
to send out a special happy birthday shout out to
our guy Tarren Bland. Yes, sir, the Bard for t Bland.
He's off today, you're sitting in his chair right now
and this afternoon for the Moeggar Show. So I'm sure
Arran has kind of built his birthday around talkbacks. So Arran,
happy birthday, Happy birthday to our guy it Bland. Let's

(01:08:01):
get started, shall we?

Speaker 17 (01:08:04):
Is this swap shop. I've got a smoker I'd like
to sell or accept payment and trade. I'll take either
two hundred dollars or you said of eighteen inch Goodyear
tires and maybe some jewelry.

Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
It's a fine smoker.

Speaker 18 (01:08:20):
It's got Bengals all over it, it says Paul Brown
Stadium on it Uh be a good Christmas gif. You
got a Bengals fan, just call Franchee five one three
seven two seven seven five five.

Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
So I gotta admit something when I when I came
in here, I pulled up the talkback website to look
at them, and you can see the transcript of the talkbacks.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
So I looked at that.

Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
This one was sent in at six twenty two this morning,
of course, So I look at the transcript and I
read it, and I'm like, what does this have to
do with anything. I was unaware that two guys tried
to steal a smoker from the stadium over the weekend.
So when you and Rapine were talking about it and
brought that up, I was like, oh wait, this talkback
makes a lot more sense now.

Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Two guys arrested trying to steal a smoker. That's incredible.
It's unbelievable. I remember too, like a year or two ago,
on the on the entrance to pay Course Stadium off
of Elm Street, when you like pull in, it's like,
we're like, I guess it's like the part of the
garage that is like people can pay to like a

(01:09:26):
monthly thing to park there and a lot of business
people might park there. I don't know exactly, but they
have like the old stadium wall graphic, I guess is
the best way to put it. They have it there
and it looks kind of cool. And a couple of
years ago somebody broke in there and like cut all
the zip ties off and stole that off the wall.

(01:09:47):
It's like, what are you gonna do with a fifty
foot long, ten foot tall Bengals poster? Like, what are
you going to do with it? It's Aliquesta or were
they ever caught? I don't know. I don't think they were. Wow,
might have been the same two guys. It could have been.

Speaker 19 (01:10:04):
Hey, guys, it's a bride in the LBA blue Eyes.
Bro Hey, it's big week for UC Clifton. I took
my thirteen year old daughter to get her braces tightened.
And let me tell you this, the orthodonys is dialed in.
I'm high on this six foot ten wide out we
got from the Missouri State Penal Program at Lyndenwood, Kansas City.

Speaker 6 (01:10:23):
Here we come.

Speaker 19 (01:10:24):
I got the O one Icanno line StarCraft conversion van.

Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
Ready to go.

Speaker 19 (01:10:29):
Shout out, fat Pass Auto Sales.

Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Western Hills Back yeah, baby, go Cats. I think Tony
needs a ride, uh Mad, If you want to pick
him up, I'll give you his address.

Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
What's good, Auto Elmore?

Speaker 6 (01:10:47):
What a week coming up here?

Speaker 17 (01:10:49):
We got cut down Day, college football is coming back.

Speaker 20 (01:10:54):
We got the Reds well doing red things, so it
should be an interesting week.

Speaker 6 (01:11:00):
Take care everybody, and always remember.

Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
Oh hey, Kevin, thank you. Good to hear your voice.

Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
It's the Lord on a Monday.

Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Lord.

Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
Hey, it looks like the Dolphins cut Mike Hilton.

Speaker 6 (01:11:15):
Is there a chance that the Bengals could be looking
at Mike Hilton to return to Cincinnati?

Speaker 21 (01:11:22):
Let us know it's been discussed. Hey, what's up, Addie?
This twine from the Heights. I hope you had a great,
amazing weekend. I definitely did, celebrating my thirty sixth birthday
with my family and friends and it was amazing weather.
And also shout out to my alma mater, Shroder Jacks
on an impressive win on Thursday down in taf against Norwood.

(01:11:45):
If you want to see a good team, come see
us this upcoming Friday at Deer Park we play against
the Wildcasts.

Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Hopefully go to one. Okay, all right, Happy birthday twin.
That's fun. Time I saw our team both had the
number fifty six involved in their score, Drew, I believe
your Layman Catholic Cavaliers scored fifty six points, that is correct,
and my Sydney Yellowjackets surrendered fifty six points.

Speaker 4 (01:12:13):
Yeah, the the Layman Cavaliers, I'm from what I'm hearing,
gonna be a little bengalsy this year. Oh, we're gonna
put it. We're gonna light up the scoreboard on both
offense and defense. Oh, we're gonna We're gonna light up
the scoreboard on Friday nights. Laman quarterback Turner Lache eight
touchdown passes, which I gotta think is a Layman Catholic.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
Is he related to I gotta think in some former fashion. Okay,
I seem to remember a couple of Laches from Layman. Hey,
Jeff from Casey here. I cannot believe you don't like
the noon football games. I hate watching game day, all
the build up and then you get a nothing game
and the game they're at doesn't happen till you know

(01:12:53):
eight hours later.

Speaker 6 (01:12:54):
Drives me crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
I love a good afternoon college football game.

Speaker 6 (01:12:58):
I do.

Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
I love afternoon noon games I don't like top five
matchups being at noon. Correct, that's what I that's my
big issue.

Speaker 4 (01:13:05):
Yes, it zap's all of the like big game feel
from the stadium, in my opinion, when you have a
game the caliber of Texas and Ohio State being at noon, yeah, exactly,
that's the whole big thing.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
And you know, it is difficult sometimes too, when like
the game is on an entirely different network from Game Day,
which is not abnormal. I mean, the big games that
they're at are normally at an ABC or a CBS
or a Fox or whatever. But I dislike that too.
I wish that it could just flow right into that
big game.

Speaker 12 (01:13:39):
Hey, Austin, it's Brandon.

Speaker 22 (01:13:42):
Tony's having a good day on the golf course.

Speaker 12 (01:13:43):
Is he a pretty good golfer?

Speaker 6 (01:13:45):
Anyway?

Speaker 22 (01:13:46):
As far as Craig Henderson is concerned, I think it's
he's being very disrespectful to the team. It's very disrespectful
that they did not have a deal done. Sorry about
the stuttering, but anyways, because he hasn't practiced with the
team or anything like that. And as far as the
Reds are concerned, I hate to sound like a downer.
I just have my doubts about them making the playoffs,
but we'll see. God bless and stay safe.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
I don't know that I would I would label the
Hendrickson situation as disrespectful from either side. I don't think
either side is really feeling disrespect would you Drew, No,
not at all.

Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
I think it's two sides that believe they are in
the right, and I think depending on how you frame it,
you can say that both sides are.

Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Yeah, it makes both sides have compelling arguments. I think
if Trey was like doing what he did at mini
camp and coming over and making a whole thing out
of it, that I think would be disrespectful. But he's
done everything right has he has? He like spoke to
media at all throughout training camp. The very first day
that he came back, he said, nothing's changed. I'm not
talking about it. I'm just gonna be a good teammate

(01:14:48):
and we'll see where what happens. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
If that was that's how he's going about it, then yeah,
I don't think it's disrespectful at all. The guy thinks
he deserves to be paid, and the Angles think they're
paying them what they believe he's worth.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
I do wonder he spoke on mini camp when he
showed up. He spoke to that training camp when he
showed up. Now that we are officially into the season
starting at Thursday at four o'clock, will he then talk again,
right to just set the record straight or try to
put some pre I don't know, Yeah, Audie, this is DJ.

Speaker 23 (01:15:22):
As far as the Cheton deal, I agree with the
Bengals that I wouldn't want to give him that guaranteed money. However,
since they've so severely botched drafting, developing, trading for anybody
that can do what he does, I think they're screwed.
They need to go ahead and pay him because apparently

(01:15:43):
it'll be a lose lose if he holds out and
you've paid everybody else.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
So make it happen. Yep, pretty much.

Speaker 24 (01:15:52):
Hey Austin, quick question, if the Reds don't make the playoffs,
but we continue just this outstanding achievement of never getting swept,
will we hang a banner for it?

Speaker 6 (01:16:05):
Like, will we put some kind of.

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Little you know, mum out on the wall twenty twenty
five we never got swept?

Speaker 6 (01:16:14):
I mean I think we should.

Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
It's just a special team here, guys, Yeah, I mean
I think I can promise you that we here at
iHeartMedia will do something some sort of a banner. I
think if the Reds could maybe come up with a bobblehead,
you know, to give away, that would be pretty cool
and I'm sure they could get some people out of
the ballpark for that. What would it be like a
broken broomstick?

Speaker 6 (01:16:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
I like that idea, Like Ellie breaking a broomstick over
his knee. Yeah, that'd be kind of cool. That's actually
a great idea. If the Reds go this entire sits
without being swept. What if it's like a series like
four bobbleheads that they all like the backgrounds all connect
together and it's each player like Andrew Abbott is breaking
one over his shoulders and Spencer Steers breaking one over

(01:16:59):
his head and lle over his knee. You know, I
think that's a great idea, not bad. We might have
to work write that down. I know the good people
at Great American Ballpark listen to this show. This is
I'm kind of being funny, but also not. That would
be cool if they go the whole season without getting swept. Now,
they would have to make the playoffs for them to
make this happen. But you could do a series of

(01:17:21):
bobbleheads with those dudes, like destroying brooms and they would
go crazy. Yeah, I'm with you. You're welcome.

Speaker 25 (01:17:29):
I'm a big fan of the Reds front office, but
every once in a while they make a pretty good move,
and at this trade deadline they got Keino Berger Hayes.
We all know about his gold glove defense, but check
this out. Seventy seven played appearances so far in twenty
two games, he's hitting two seventy five, three point fifty
one on base percentage and eight fourteen ops, all best

(01:17:49):
since his rookie season in twenty twenty. He struck out
only eight times so far, has not grounded into a
double play we expected, and a hard to hit, but
this is icing on the cake.

Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
I agree with that, and I said before, I was
told when the Reds traded for key Brian Hayes that
they believed they could fix him. They saw something in
him that they felt like offensively they could fix. And
so far he's been He hasn't been great, but he's
been good, and that's fine. Well, like I said, keep
Brian Hayes.

Speaker 4 (01:18:19):
If he can just hit like in the two forty range,
get on base around three ten and slug near four
hundred at the bottom of the lineup.

Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
How much value he will.

Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
Bring at the bottom of the lineup and then the
defense he plays that kind of just speaks for itself.

Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
So I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (01:18:33):
I think the Reds noticed something in his swing that
they could, you know, kind of tweak and maybe, you know,
change the philosophy of him a little bit. And I
think it's paying dividends. I do think it's noteworthy that
Miguel anderhar dealing with a quad injury. I kind of
forgot to go back to that earlier talking about the
Reds and we'll talk to Jeff Carr about it.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
But that is a big deal. That is no small thing.

Speaker 25 (01:18:55):
In Austin. Let's go one more for you. What's worse
part time Pike ditching you three Mondays in a row
or taking your off day on the annual wind Shoolers
cheese day at iHeartMedia.

Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
Uh, you know that that had nothing to do with
Meez was pretty good. Those things don't But I do
love wind Shoolers.

Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
And technically Tony's only abandoning you on two Mondays because
you're also abandoning this station on the Labor day, so.

Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
Just call Space Spade here. No, I said that, I
said we are off on Labor Day. I said that
earlier in the show.

Speaker 3 (01:19:33):
Hey, awesome, out for a walk?

Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
What up dog?

Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
Beautiful day? And hear your negativity about the Reds again.

Speaker 26 (01:19:42):
After a day they could easily have folded and ended
the season, Terry Francona and the team found a way
to win and keep wealthy.

Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
And somehow you're complaining about the days before. I'll get it.
Let's hear about Nick Crawl and have what he didn't do?

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
You see that there's a very special group of Reds
fans that they just live for that moment right right there.

Speaker 4 (01:20:08):
You're you're not much of a movie guy. Have you
happen to see the movie of Rounders? No, with Matt
Damon and Edward Norton's poker movie.

Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
I like Matt Damon though.

Speaker 4 (01:20:16):
So Matt Damon's character is facing a you know, like
a Russian mafia boss in a game of heads up
one on one poker at the end, and he just
kind of keeps hanging around, and uh, John Malkovich is
the guy who plays Teddy KGB and he just you know,
in a weird Russian access says, hanging around, hanging around,
he's got alligator blood. That's kind of how I feel
about the Reds. They just like they'll drive you mad,

(01:20:39):
but they just kind of keep hanging around that one
and a half to half game back thing, and you just.

Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
Don't know which way it's gonna go. Yeah, And there
are people that, like, I don't know if that guy's
joking or not. It's hard to tell, but like there
are people who that's good enough for them. Yeah, And
I just don't subscribe to that belief. And I even

(01:21:06):
said at the beginning they're still firmly in the playoff hunt,
and that's fine, and I'm happy with that. But my
job is to tell you what I think and evaluate
what they have. And it's my belief based off of
that to think that they're probably not good enough to
make the playoffs. And I hold them to a much

(01:21:26):
higher standard than oh, they played hard and avoided the
sweep on Sunday. Right, get out of here with that nonsense,
Like if that's if that's the way you choose to
live life, that's fine, but understand that that's detached from
the reality that there should be a higher standard for
this franchise. Go sign that.

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
Double difference today.

Speaker 27 (01:21:48):
Trey Henderson, Yeah, I don't understand where he stands on
this guaranteed money.

Speaker 6 (01:21:52):
I mean, yeah, he led the league.

Speaker 27 (01:21:54):
In sacks, but he had seven and a half sacks
against a Las Vegas team and a Pittsburgh Steelers team
last year. After that, I mean sixteen games or ten
and a half sacks, that's I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
It's not top to.

Speaker 4 (01:22:10):
Half of the league. Last time I checked. Those two
regular season games count count towards stats. They do, But
it's part of the reason why I kind of side
with the Bengals. Like this is difficult for me because
I sighed for the Bengals, but because they've screwed so
much other stuff up, they kind of have to do this.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
Yeah, that's the way I see it. And again we'll
go back and get to it later on. But like
a month ago, I posted about how excited I was
for Joseph Osai and Miles Murphy to get all the
reps while Trey wasn't practicing. Well, how many times have
those guys really jumped off the screen at you over

(01:22:50):
the last month? And that's exactly Trey's argument.

Speaker 15 (01:22:55):
Hello, this is former presidented Ronald Reagan and running well.
The move the Bengals made and didn't make during the
offseason tells me that they are counting on a lot
of things to happen to get back into the postseason.
They are counting on Joe, Jamar and Trey to have
the same kind of years they had last year, and

(01:23:16):
for Evan McPherson to improve. L Exit polls are showing
that nobody believes this is going to happen.

Speaker 28 (01:23:24):
Yeah, I got a stat for you, and it's probably
the most damning staff of this year's Reds team, as
far as the ineptitude of the ownership hit me. In
games in which we score at least four runs, our
record is fifty six and nineteen. If that doesn't show
you that we have the pitching but we do not

(01:23:46):
have offense, I do not know what will. And it's
really frustrating when we have one of the most hit
or friendly ballparks in the league.

Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
But we want to play small ball.

Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
YEP.

Speaker 28 (01:23:59):
I hated to see Seer hit that homer yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:24:02):
It was such a rally killer.

Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
That PFT comment.

Speaker 29 (01:24:09):
I gave the Reds kiss to death Friday saying I
thought they made the playoffs. The Mets seem rejuvenated at
the moment.

Speaker 2 (01:24:18):
I'll tell you the.

Speaker 29 (01:24:20):
Brady Singer trade turned out be real nice for the Reds.
I taped the Bengals game. I haven't watched it yet.

Speaker 27 (01:24:28):
Got here.

Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
It's a horror story.

Speaker 29 (01:24:32):
Let's Bengals, let's get it turned around.

Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
Yeah, I'm watching it again right now. There's not a
lot going on here.

Speaker 6 (01:24:38):
It was.

Speaker 4 (01:24:39):
It was a pretty sad postgame sports talk show on
Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
Who had to do that?

Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
Myself and the Chickster on a Saturday night after a
forty one to fourteen thrashing by the Indianapolis Colts in
preseason game number three?

Speaker 2 (01:24:52):
Oh boy, it's I got to send a massive thank
you out to my friends Lauren and Alpha, who asked
me to a fish she ate their wedding over the
weekend and mercifully allowed me to not have to do
post game for the third preseason.

Speaker 3 (01:25:07):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
God bless them, and God bless chick Ludwig by the way,
indeed love that guy. What up Reppingdent Natie out here?
Sonny Windy hot so on it?

Speaker 30 (01:25:15):
What up?

Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Body?

Speaker 31 (01:25:16):
No fun day Monday for me some must win series
for the Reds.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Take two out of three from the Dodgers. Real talk.

Speaker 31 (01:25:21):
I enjoyed myself yesterday at the ball game. It's not
a lot of Cincinnati fans there.

Speaker 10 (01:25:24):
It felt good.

Speaker 31 (01:25:25):
I thought I was at home for a hot second
with all the Reds love around me and support. Real talk,
Bengals embarrassing, real talk.

Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
That's how you're gonna do. Dalton Risden, no ball minimum.
Come on, man, yo, Mike hook got released. Do we
bring Mike Holton back?

Speaker 6 (01:25:39):
Do we? I would?

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Ronnie ron is the stopper. He went out to Chase
Field or whatever they call that place these days and
put a stop to the Reds losing streak up against
the Arizona Diamondbacks. So shout out to Ronnie Ron indeed, And.

Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
If the Reds can pull two out of three against
the Dodgers, that is a winning part one of the
Coast Swing, all right, before having to go back out
to face San Diego and the non location Athletics.

Speaker 32 (01:26:09):
Yeah, I hope you had a great weekend. I hope
you guys got to watch some college football, you know,
some preseason football. And speaking of football, just wanted to
know what your guys' opinion on new semi pro football
team in Kentucky called the Kentucky Barrels. I didn't know
if you guys were interested in that, or did you
guys play on going to a couple of games when
they started up.

Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
That's arena football, isn't it.

Speaker 13 (01:26:29):
It is?

Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
It is like minor league arena football. I personally don't
have a ton of interest in it, but I would
go to a game here and there. The timing of
their season is a little bit difficult because it's in
the midst of college basketball, and if there's one thing
this town loves, it's college basketball. There's a lot of
that stuff going on. I would like go check it out.

(01:26:50):
I don't know that I would say I'm excited about
it or thrilled about it. Sure give us some tickets.
Shout out Jeff Fisher. Oh yeah, who's the commits that line?
I was he coaching. I'd have been at that joint
in a minute if Jeff Fisher was back on the side. Yeah,
I mean, Colley, you want to see get the Kentucky
Barrels to go eight and eight, eight and eight. That's

(01:27:11):
Jeff Fisher for you.

Speaker 33 (01:27:12):
What's up, Boston TJ east Side way to hold down
the fort was fourteen when Mike Brown got the silver
football spoon shoved in his mouth.

Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
He's been choking on it ever since.

Speaker 33 (01:27:22):
The nineties were all time lows for professional sports, the
Marvin Lewis era. Results wise useless. Now we have a
house built on sand. Question what under over numbers higher
against Cleveland? The points or the times Joe gets sacked?
Mike prooves, wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age.

Speaker 3 (01:27:40):
Go bucks.

Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Okay, lot there. I imagine Joe's gonna get sacked about
six times. That's my number for Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (01:27:49):
Six sacks. Yeah, yeah, that's probably that's five and a half.
Probably a pretty good line.

Speaker 27 (01:27:55):
Hey Austin, why was Ohio State late to the game
because they mistaken?

Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
They went to the Siesta Bowl?

Speaker 2 (01:28:05):
Tough? The what Bowl? The Siesta Bowl? Is there a
joke there. I don't understand what's the Siesta Bowl? I
know what the Fiesta Bowl is. I think that was
a play on the Fiesta Bowl. They're in there and
won a few of those SIESA is a nap if
I'm not mistaken. Okay, you know they won the two
thousand and two Fiesta Bowl. That they did you know
that was a national championship, big time underdogs in that game.

(01:28:29):
To me, yeah, great call by those officials.

Speaker 34 (01:28:33):
Tom from Covedale, Hey, Tom, I was wondering if anybody
would consider trading T Higgins for a top of the
line defensive tackle.

Speaker 6 (01:28:44):
I believe our backup.

Speaker 34 (01:28:46):
Receivers maybe aren't T Higgins, but they're pretty darn good
and we could sure need a really good defensive tackle.

Speaker 6 (01:28:55):
All right, That's all I.

Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Got, Tom, Go find a defensive tackle that you feel
is worthy to be traded for and come back to me.

Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
And that probably would have been a better idea in
April when higgins contract wasn't Brandley News signs.

Speaker 2 (01:29:08):
Again, you got those players have to exist. People keep saying, well,
once you trade so and so for a guard, trade
Mitchell Tinsley for a guard. Okay, well maybe that starting
guard doesn't exist in exchange for Mitchell Tinsley. Like, who's
a defensive tackle, a top flight defensive tackle that a
team would trade for T Higgins Off the top of

(01:29:28):
your head, I got nothing, Yeah, I can't. Who's the
guy in uh in Tennessee, Simmons, Simmons, that's the only
guy that Maybe it would happen. Jeffrey Simmons are the
Titans and the connection to Brian Callahan. That's the only
way that I can Maybe it could happen, but I
don't know that it makes a massive difference, or that

(01:29:50):
the Titans would do it.

Speaker 35 (01:29:53):
Hey, y Audie gets Adam and I don't know how
big of an FC fan you are, but I watch
pretty much every game and it just seems to me
like the blueprint to beat them.

Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
Is to turn the soccer match into rugby. Teams just
out muscle them.

Speaker 35 (01:30:11):
They're helpless against a physical team. What's your thoughts on that, Audie.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
I'll admit that I don't know enough to give you
a great answer, But I have heard in the past
that teams like to be physical, kind of drag them
into the mud, slow the game down a little bit
and throw off their rhythm, and that that can sometimes
be a susceptible it can lead. It's it's where FC
Cincinnati's offense and what they do well is susceptible to

(01:30:42):
being cut down. So I don't know if I don't
know for sure, to be completely honest with you, And
like I said, I didn't get to see any sports
this weekend in that game includes that, But I have
heard that from people in the past.

Speaker 36 (01:30:55):
Hey, Austin, it's old men grumpy.

Speaker 6 (01:30:57):
I don't grum.

Speaker 36 (01:30:58):
But football season is my favorite time of the year,
and my one of my favorite days is cut down Day.
You can improve your team more on cutdown Day sometimes
than you can the draft. And I know a lot
of people disagree with that, but I'm interested to see
what guys they can pick up, and those guys are
hungry as can be and sometimes contribute greatly to a

(01:31:22):
good team.

Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
Take care, Austin. Yeah, I agree, sometimes you can do that.
I don't know that that's the case this year, but
it certainly is possible. But the Bengals are seventeenth in
priority of the waiver wires, so there's no guarantee that
they're going to get those best players available. Okay, we've
got four more, let's get through them here, all right,
let's go quickly.

Speaker 37 (01:31:41):
It's the paintball guru here, and hey, Auti, I just
got back from a week or so vacation out in
California and I just wanted to find out how Tpece
fundraiser went. Tella viv feel me in if you could
please thanks.

Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
It was very successful. There was a ton of people there.
I don't know the total number. I don't know if
Tony has shared that yet, but it was very successful.

Speaker 6 (01:32:05):
I think we're gonna.

Speaker 30 (01:32:06):
Complete the non sweep season, sneak into the playoffs, and
then get swept in the playoffs. Oh that would be
the most red thing that could happen.

Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
Oh boy, and then we couldn't do our bibblehead idea that.

Speaker 4 (01:32:17):
Technically they wouldn't get. If do you count in the
wild card if you lose to nothing?

Speaker 3 (01:32:22):
I do?

Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
Would you count that? I count that as a sweet.

Speaker 30 (01:32:26):
I don't know if they've released any names at in
the Smoke or Debacle, but Johnny Moon and George from
the Valley have to be two the prime suspect. I mean,
we know how Michigan loves stealing things, yep, and those
two tend.

Speaker 34 (01:32:39):
To run around together a lot, so.

Speaker 27 (01:32:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:32:42):
That might be the first place i'd look.

Speaker 3 (01:32:44):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:32:44):
I was told the same thing, and apparently Chris Jenkins
and DJ Turner had nothing to do with it. I
don't know. Last one, Hey, Austin, it's Ryan. Have you
ever had JP Morosi on the show? I thought you have.

Speaker 38 (01:32:56):
But then the MLB network thought the Reds would sneak
by the Mets, so he predicted that to day And
how about Afrocentric High School out of Columbus beat Worldwards
seventy two to nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
Go Reds. Nice? Uh No, haven't had JP Morosi on
the show, but maybe we should. All right, we should.
That's it. We'll take a break, we'll come back, we'll
do a Postman Law injury report, and then we'll get
to our guy, Jeff Carr. This is since he three
to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
From the Any Weather Heating and there three sixty continues
on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.

Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
All Right, we're gonna push the Postman Law injury report
back to the third hour because we have a bit
of a breaking news situation as far as the Bengals
and Trey Hendrickson are concerned. Jordan Schultz is reporting that
the Bengals have restarted talks with Trey Hendrickson on a
new deal for twenty twenty five. Schultz says his understanding

(01:33:54):
is that the two sides have been exploring a more
unique avenue to get something done, which would mean giving
Hendrickson more money this season while still letting his contract
expire after the year. That has been discussed again, according
to Jordan Schultz, who set a source so told to

(01:34:17):
him quote, more work to do, but there's cautious optimism.
So again, Jordan Schultz reporting the Bengals have restarted talks
with Trey Hendrickson looking at a potential unique avenue that
would give Trey more money this year, but his contract
would still expire at the end of this season. I

(01:34:39):
don't know exactly what that looks like or what exactly
that would mean. But again, Schultz reports that a source said,
there's more work to do, but there's cautious optimism. I
would like to know. Can a franchise tag be used?
Is there any sort How does that work? How do
you amend the contract to make sense for both sides.

(01:35:01):
We'll try to get some more information in the meantime.
We'll talk to Jeff Carr from the Lockdown Reds podcast
next on ESPN fifteen thirty men The Sun.

Speaker 1 (01:35:10):

Speaker 2 (01:35:32):
Hi, Hello, and welcome in to the final hour of
Sincy three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty. My name's
Austin Elmore and happy to be with you on this beautiful,
beautiful Monday in the Cincinnati area, the tri State, the nation,
and the world. It's football weather at all times, but
meaningful baseball is still being played. That's not something we

(01:35:53):
always get to say when it comes to the local
ball club, but it has happened a lot in recent years,
and we get to talk talk to our guy Jeff
Carr about that. And after a rough series over the
weekend in Arizona and me being a glass half empty
type of guy according to most at least, I just
consider it honesty and just being myself. But people call

(01:36:15):
me negative and Jeff Carr is the exact opposite. He's
a positive man, He's a positive influence. His cup runneth
over and he joins us now, my friend Jeff Carr
from the Locked on Reds podcast. Hi, Jeff, how are
you awesome?

Speaker 6 (01:36:29):
I'm doing great man, looking at the outside weather, beautiful day,
and you know, I mean the game they's just getting started.

Speaker 2 (01:36:36):
Got a late late night one with the Reds tonight.
I know you're a flip flops guy. You got the
flip flops on.

Speaker 6 (01:36:41):
Today, flip flops shorts, you know it.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
What did we learn, if anything, about the Reds this weekend?

Speaker 6 (01:36:51):
We learned that when they don't hit with runners in
scoring position, they don't win. And they have this whole
past week, even the series where they won the series
in Los Angeles against the Angels. Well, sorry, Anaheim, I
know Dodgers fans will say that the Angels are not
in LA, but they didn't hit with runners in scoring
position all last week. I think they combined for to

(01:37:13):
be ten for fifty, I think with runners in scoring position.
And the good news is they put plenty of guys on,
and they had plenty of opportunities. Because they have even
less opportunities, they would have scored even less runs than
they did. But it's all about how they capitalize when
they get the guys on, because, as they like to
tell us and as we like to see, quite often,

(01:37:34):
they don't have the whole power game on their side.

Speaker 2 (01:37:38):
Yeah, and that can be painfully obvious in some of
those situations. Let's go back to Friday night. What did
you make of Terry Francona's decision to bunt in the
extra inning with the ghost runner and then to not
pinch run Jose Travino.

Speaker 6 (01:37:58):
It's very odd because it's clear that he attacks the
extra innings as though the Reds are going to get
that one run and they're going to keep the opponent
from getting their one run. I mean, if you watch
extra inning ball around the league, it's almost a given
that that ghost runner comes around to score, and you
almost see it as a negative runs if they don't

(01:38:21):
get that one guy in. So the way that he
approaches it is so micro and so very focused on
just the guy on second base that it feels odd
to not just let guys swing away. I mean, Jose
Travino even so, he's not a bunter, like he does
not bunt very often in his career. So the fact
that he was called upon to do so, and the

(01:38:43):
way that you know he explained he didn't want will
Banfield's career debut to be in extra innings on the
road and I get that, but why is he on
the roster? Then if you don't want to play them
when you need to play them, then what are we
even doing here? So that's kind of the weird micro
part of Terry Francona's decision on Friday night, especially in

(01:39:06):
the game that it felt like they had no business
winning because of how bad they hit with runs in
scoring position and how bad they pitched, and yet they
were right there.

Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
How do you think Francona has done this season? Do
you do feel like? I know he's kind of this
mix of new and old, but how do you feel like,
given the roster that he has, how do you feel
like he's done.

Speaker 6 (01:39:29):
I think he's a net positive, but definitely not to
the extent that we expected. I know that I was
one of the folks banging the drum that he's a
very big difference maker when it comes to, you know,
adding him and adding wins. I think he's added a
few more wins than what David Bell would have done,
but I don't think it's to the extent that we expected,

(01:39:50):
and maybe, you know, maybe unfairly so in his first
year with a new ball club, But I just I
haven't seen the overwhelming impact that I expected from him,
but I do see incremental impacts. I mean, Noel vi Marte,
I think that he is an otherworldly talent. He just
needed the right guy in his ear, and Tito was
the right guy. And I think that we've got the
right system in place for guys like Elie de la Cruz.

(01:40:13):
But I'm wondering what that's doing with Matt McLain because
he's kind of the opposite of everything that noelvi Marte
is right now. So I think that where he has
positively impacted this book club, he has had some other
effects that maybe level that out a lot more than
we expected it to do.

Speaker 2 (01:40:32):
How do you explain the surge that Noel vi Marte
has been on for the last month or so.

Speaker 6 (01:40:39):
Plate discipline he has this entire season, In fact, chopped
his strikeout rate almost in half from last year. Last
year was at thirty one percent, this year it's at
nineteen percent. He is seeing the ball so well and
you can watch it on at that By at that basis,
I mean even the hit that he had that turned
into the Little League home thanks to terrible landfield defense

(01:41:02):
from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Which by the way, he has
more infield home runs than Santiago West and all has
legitimate home runs this year, so that's kind of hilarious.
But even that hit, it was a nice pitch that
was low in the strike zone, not something you would
expect him to get under. And if that were in
Great American Ballpark, that's over the fence, and you don't
have to worry about the Arizona enfield at that point

(01:41:25):
because he has just been barelying up the baseball, laying
off the bad pitches that really got to him in
twenty twenty four, and he clearly is a complete hitter
at the plate. And then you add in the speed
that he has on the base pass that whole like
running first the second on a fly ball to Corbyn
Parrelelf that out of La Dela Cruz was very impressive
to me. And I get that in the grand scheme

(01:41:46):
of things, the Reds scored five runs in the eighth,
I mean, so that one play might get a little
bit lost, but I think there was an element of
galvanization to that play that really got the lineup going.

Speaker 2 (01:41:57):
And what's interesting about that too, Jeff, is that he's
not walking, so he is being disciplined at the plate,
but he isn't walking hardly at all. And I go
back to when Chris Fialaka was hired, they continually said
that the mentality is to do damage with the pitches
you know you can handle. And I think Marte is

(01:42:17):
the perfect example of what they're trying to get out
of each hitter.

Speaker 6 (01:42:23):
Yes, if you were looking for the success video, if
you're were if they were going to make one of
those cheesy commercials for Chris Maalaka's hitting philosophy, Noel pre
Marte would be the guy and the way that he
is able to hit and the way that he's.

Speaker 11 (01:42:39):
Able to plate, because that's the other part.

Speaker 6 (01:42:41):
Like if you go back a few years ago and
people were finding over the fact that Jose I Glacias
never struck out, it's because he knew how to descend
the plate.

Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
And Noel A. P.

Speaker 6 (01:42:50):
Marte takes that even a step further because he's plugging
over five hundred right now. He is he looks like
every bit the guy that they hoped they would have
whenever he was first called up in twenty twenty three.
It looks like Nicklodolo is going to start on Wednesday,
Chase Burns probably not that far behind. Do you think

(01:43:11):
it is still the right move to put Chase Burns
into the bullpen when he returns, or is it the
right move to put him back into the rotation considering
how much time he's missed, and he could remain on
that schedule basically throughout the end of the season. I
wonder a little bit about that, because his placement on

(01:43:32):
the injured list was very strategic. I don't believe necessarily
that there's a whole lot wrong, Like, obviously there's wear
and tear on the arm. That's what happens to every
pitcher in the game, and it's easy to kind of
use that as a reason to give him a break.
But I almost wonder if there was a behind the
scenes conversation of here's the plan. Either moved to the bullpen,

(01:43:53):
or we give you some off time so that you
can finish out the season pitching with us, because we
don't want to shut you down early. And he transferred
from the University of Tennessee to the to Wake Forest
you know a lot because of the development that Wake
Forest offers pictures, but also because Tennessee you know, approached
him about moving into the bullpen, and he didn't want

(01:44:13):
to do that. He said, I'm a starting pitcher. This
is what I do and this is how I know
how to do it. And there is a routine change
whenever you move to the bullpen because you have to be,
you know, ready at a moment's notice. And there's there's
not like a set off day thing for that. So
I wonder if there's a bit of creature of habit
where he's like, no, I'm a starter, keep me a starter.
We'll we'll figure out the plan from there. And I

(01:44:35):
think that's what the Reds are doing.

Speaker 2 (01:44:37):
Talking to Jeff Carr of one half of the Locked
On Reds podcast alongside Steve Offenbaker, why or how do
you explain or what is the reasoning? How do I
how do I want to phrase this question? What's a
reason or what's a good reason for Sal Stewart to

(01:44:58):
remain in Triple A.

Speaker 6 (01:45:03):
I think he's a big Bourbon fan and he's really
close to Distillery Sound in Louisville.

Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
Yeah, you really all like that?

Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
For you?

Speaker 6 (01:45:11):
That's all I got for you at this point. The
way that he is just crushing Triple A pitching and
the way that we continue to get absolutely nothing from
guys who play second base. I mean, right now, the
guys who play second base, between Matt McLain or San
Diego Espinal just really aren't providing much in way of,
you know, production at the plate. And I still maintain

(01:45:34):
that there's only one spot for Matt McClain to get right,
and that's in the major leagues, right but it definitely
shouldn't be every day. At this point, he is a
detriment to the lineup, and to the point that whenever
he lays down a sacrifice bun, we're all getting up
and chearing because we're like, hey, a productive vout for
this guy. Like man, he needs he needs some help.
And I still believe in Matt McClain long term, but

(01:45:56):
where the Reds are right now, they do have to
be hyper focused on the to day and on to
it that production of the guys that they have in
the lineup. And I think that there's an argument that
even the unknown of South Stewart is probably more productive
than what we know about Matt mcquin currently.

Speaker 2 (01:46:13):
Yeah, I think that's a fair point. Now, the other
part of this is TJ. Friedel. I know he's kind
of flying under the radar, but over his last fifty games,
he's barely hitting over two hundred, his ops well under
three hundred. How concerned are you about TJ Friedel?

Speaker 6 (01:46:33):
Only slightly. I think that TJ still has the ability
to affect the game in many different ways, and so
the fact that he's just not hitting very well right
now isn't a huge concern of mine. And I've seen
that as batting average on balls and play as of
right now is unlucky during this period of time. So
I think that there's just a bit of a slump
factor that he's going through, and I think that he'll

(01:46:53):
come out of it. I just I just hope it's
sooner rather than later, especially as you head into LA
because there's two spot in this lineup that seemed to
be sewn up, and that's TJ. Friedel in the leadoff
spot and the Li de la Cruz batting third. And
if he continues to bat which I think over the
last fifteen games he's batting at a buck sixty one clip,

(01:47:14):
Like you really got to ask yourself if that can continue.
Maybe there's an off day on this final game here
on Wednesday of this West Coast road trip that would
do him some good, because he doesn't get a lot
of those. But at the end of the day, I
believe that he's going to come out of this slump sooner.

Speaker 15 (01:47:31):
Rather than.

Speaker 2 (01:47:35):
Do they have enough to make the playoffs?

Speaker 6 (01:47:39):
They do, and they're also helped by the fact that
they're chasing one of the just most ridiculously cursed franchises
in the history of baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:47:48):
But don't you want the Reds to earn it rather
than the Mets to lose it?

Speaker 6 (01:47:52):
I want the Reds of the playoffs. However that happens,
I would like to say that it's because the Reds
go on a crazy and I think they have that
in them, because honestly, I firmly believe that the only
thing that kept them from going four and two this
past week is the fact that whenever a guy stood
on second base, they just dropped the bat in the
batter's box. But I think that when it comes to

(01:48:15):
chasing the Mets right now, I think I saw something
that over the last two months of the season, the
Mets are playing on a pace that had they played
that way for the entire year, they'd be looking at
a sixty six win ball club. There's something about them
that whenever they do something right in the ballgame, and
they did this the other day in Washington, where they
went up four nothing very quickly and they ended up

(01:48:36):
losing the game because their bullpens just imploded on them.
And they even addressed that at the trade deadline. So
I think that there's something about the Mets that the
Reds can overcome. And if they do the unspeakable, and
if they somehow win two out of three against Los
Angeles and the Dodgers continued their collapse, there's a chance
the Redskin catch them for the number two wild card spot.

(01:48:58):
They've got the pitching off and I believe in this
pitching staff, and as long as the hitting is not horrible,
I think that they can do this. They can make
a run out.

Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
So this weekend, with Zach Lttel struggling, Andrew Abbott struggling,
Lodolo still hurt, Burn still hurt, You're still confident that
the starting pitching can be what it's been and hold
up for the last month plus.

Speaker 6 (01:49:23):
Absolutely, I think that Andrew Rabbits start on Saturday with
something he was due for. Because that's baseball. Maybe you're
not allowed to succeed one hundred percent of the time,
and I think that he's going to bounce back in.

Speaker 11 (01:49:33):
A big way.

Speaker 6 (01:49:34):
And Zach Lettel might be the guy that whenever Chase
Burns returns, I think that Burns goes into the rotation
and Lttel kind of does a Nick Martinez thing, and
Nick Martinez becomes himself again. And we've got a couple
of different guys that can give us a means however
we ask of them. And I think that that's going
to be very interesting for the longevity of guys like
Scott Barlow and Tony Santion, who are on pace for

(01:49:56):
something like three hundred and seventy five games pitched this year.

Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
Random follow up to the TJ. Friedel conversation I just
thought of, is his future as a corner outfielder.

Speaker 6 (01:50:09):
Ideally, just because I don't necessarily know that his Dwayne
Wade mentality when it comes to playing the game of
baseball is going to keep him healthy year after year
in center field. Now, I don't know if moving him
closer to the wall helps him in either corner spot,
but he's never really had a crazy enough arm to

(01:50:32):
be considered a right fielder. For me, but he's got
the range that you could lock down the left side
of the field. I mean, imagine just looking down the
left side, you have Elliott Short, you have Key Brian
Hayes at third, and you have TJ Friedel in left field.
You feel good about any ball hit to that side.
And if you can develop somebody into a center fielder,
which I don't know if that's Hector Rodriguez coming up

(01:50:53):
from Triple A or I don't know if they get
real frisky with it and move to Oelvi Marte to
center field, but I think that there's definitely an argument
to be made that centerfield may not be the best
for his career health long term.

Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
Jeff Carr one half of the Locked on Red's podcast
with Steve Offenbaker. Jeff, where can people follow along to
everything you and Steve are working on?

Speaker 6 (01:51:19):
You can follow the Locked on Reds podcast everywhere you
get your podcasts, including the iHeartRadio app. You can also
watch us on YouTube, and you can follow me on
social media on whether it be TikTok x or whatever
at Jeff Carr with three SS.

Speaker 2 (01:51:33):
Does does Steve have the official pronunciation of Hawaii? Because
I was I saw over the weekend that the announcers
in the Hawaii Stanford game kept saying, Hawaii, do we
know about the official pronunciation has does Steve? Can Steve
help with that? Can you ask him about that?

Speaker 6 (01:51:51):
I have to ask him about that. I know that
he mentioned the Rainbow Warriors big win over over the
Cardinal at the beginning of today's.

Speaker 11 (01:52:00):
Show, but I don't think he I don't think he
pronounced it that way.

Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
I need some clarity on that. You know that the
people need the clarity on that, So work on that
for us. Jeff, thanks so much for your time, man,
have a great day.

Speaker 6 (01:52:12):
Awesome appreciated.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
That is Jeff Carr locked on Red's podcast.

Speaker 3 (01:52:17):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
I think we've exhausted everything on the Reds. I think
it makes sense where they're at and who they are.
The moves are going to be interesting that they make,
how they handle McLean, how they handle South Stewart Lodolo,
the Chase Burns thing. That's that throws a wrinkle into
it a little bit. I did not know that about
why he transferred in college because they wanted to develop

(01:52:42):
him out of the bullpen, and I do wonder if
that's at play here with the way that they chose
to approach the the off time, and the injury for
Chase Burns. Other than that, though, let's kind of switch
gears back to football. We're still monitoring this Trey Hendrickson
report and if they're anything that could come out of that.
But also we're about to go into week one of

(01:53:04):
the regular season. Let's talk about some of the stuff
that we're looking forward to. Which Bengals game on the
schedule this year are you most excited about? Are you
most intrigued by? Are you dreading the most? Which player,
maybe not just a Bengal but across the NFL are
you most looking forward to watching? Is there a team

(01:53:25):
that you find interesting or intriguing? Do you have any
hot takes about the twenty twenty five NFL season? Five
one three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty is the phone
number you can call in. You can also get your
response and make your presence and your voice heard about
this Trey Hendrickson report. All that possible? Five one three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty. This is since he three sixty

(01:53:48):
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Low Edgard reality is they're probably
not good enough.

Speaker 6 (01:53:54):
He dissects the local sports scene.

Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
They're not consistent enough.

Speaker 6 (01:53:57):
The way a fourth grader dissects across reliable.

Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
Moeger Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:54:06):
See three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's
sports station.

Speaker 2 (01:54:15):
Since E three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty. My name's
Austin Homore Moegger. Twenty minutes from right now. I've got
a time for a couple of your phone calls to
sneak in here real quick. Let's talk to Jonathan, who
is traveling today. Hello Jonathan, what's on your mind?

Speaker 6 (01:54:34):
Well, you're asking me questions about the Bengals games and
stuff and what's coming ahead. I'm excited, especially when they
go to play the Bears. They got tickets for that
because a lot of people are underestimating it.

Speaker 12 (01:54:45):
To the defense, the way they're playing, how are they
going to hold up against a lot of the number
one offenses?

Speaker 6 (01:54:51):
And it's going to be very intriguing. Trey does have
some great possibilities for the team, but a lot of
games she goes missing, seems so him being on a
team does hurt him.

Speaker 20 (01:55:03):
Not being with the team does telled.

Speaker 6 (01:55:06):
But I don't know the outlook on the games coming ahead.

Speaker 11 (01:55:10):
Nobody is going to be able to predict this one right,
because it's just going to be a crapshoot.

Speaker 2 (01:55:14):
Yeah, I'm right there with you, Jonathan, and thank you
for the phone call. Excuse me, I just sneezed. Gosh,
the cough button man for me. I think it has
to be renamed the sneeze button. I don't know what
it is. When I'm in this room, I sneeze like crazy. Anyways,

(01:55:35):
the Bears are a fascinating team. You and I Drew
were talking about that before the show today as one
of the most interesting teams in the NFL. I think
the Patriots are fascinating. I think the Jaguars are fascinating.
I think the Chicago Bears are fascinating. But He's exactly right.
I mean, from where we were a month ago to
where we are now, we don't have any answers. It's

(01:55:57):
all the same stuff. Like Joseph Osaiah Miles Murphy did
not grab on and take the opportunity that they were given.
And I understand that Murphy's been a little bit hurt,
but even when he was healthy, he wasn't feeling that way.
And there are teams on this schedule that are going
to be tough to deal with, and Chicago's one of them.
The way that they play up front, that offensive line,

(01:56:18):
the run game that is being established under Ben Johnson,
that is not going to be an easy game. Let's
go to Jeff in Virginia. What's up, Jeff?

Speaker 20 (01:56:29):
Happy Monday, Austin just back off the train from going
to the US Open last night. Nice know that since
he folks see that stuff every year. I've never seen
live tennis at that level before. And one hundred and
thirty three mile an hour serves are just something to
be old.

Speaker 3 (01:56:47):
It's just crazy, you know. Yeah.

Speaker 20 (01:56:49):
And I got to see the Medvedad meltdown first hand.

Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
I heard something about so I ended up seeing the
clip that he was just losing his mind and a
photographer was on the court or something, well.

Speaker 3 (01:57:02):
I think it was.

Speaker 20 (01:57:03):
The photographer walked across the court. So the other guy,
Binzo or Bingo, I can't remember what his name is,
served and it was a fault, but the photographer was
walking across the court when he did it, so the
chair umpire gave him another first serb instead of having
a second serve, and Medvedev just had a berfec.

Speaker 6 (01:57:22):
Like meltdown there for a minute.

Speaker 15 (01:57:24):
So but.

Speaker 20 (01:57:27):
I'd never seen anything like that.

Speaker 3 (01:57:28):
It was just great.

Speaker 20 (01:57:29):
So I think looking ahead, you know, I'm obviously looking
forward to going to Green Bay and Buffalo, going to Miami.
Hopefully it'll be warm leading up to Christmas will be nice.
I'll be watching Fairchild very closely, obviously, And like everybody's
talked about a million times, we don't have to be

(01:57:51):
a top fifteen defense.

Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
Just give me top twenty.

Speaker 6 (01:57:54):
That's all I need.

Speaker 20 (01:57:56):
Get two more stops per game. It doesn't have to
be three and out. It could be seven and out,
it could be a turnover, it can be holding the
field goals instead of touchdowns. Just two more stops per game. Yep,
and I think we're gonna be fine. And my hot
take is the Commanders won't make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:58:15):
Oh wow, Okay, all right, I'm sure it's a big
day for your people over there with Terry McLaurin. You're
saying they're not gonna make the playoffs.

Speaker 20 (01:58:24):
Yeah, I was on the train all day and just
saw everything blow up. What a bargain T Higgins is now.

Speaker 3 (01:58:30):
Is my response to that.

Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
Yeah, Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 20 (01:58:33):
Look, depend on how yeah, depend on how that contract
is structured. We're gonna see. But I know Daniels is good,
but at some point in time, the defenses are gonna
catch up to him.

Speaker 6 (01:58:45):
And uh they they've got some holes, just like the
Bengals do.

Speaker 3 (01:58:48):
So we'll see.

Speaker 20 (01:58:49):
So all right, we'll have a great afternoon, Austin.

Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
Jeff, thank you.

Speaker 15 (01:58:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
I mean, it's gonna be fun to see how the
league reacts to Jaydeon Daniels and specifically Cliff Kingsbury and
that offense. Drew, do you have a team this year
or a player or someone this year that you're most
interested in seeing play.

Speaker 4 (01:59:05):
I'll give you a team first. I'm interested in the Lions. Oh,
I'm interested to see how the Lions respond to losing
both their coordinators. They bring a lot of their talent back, Yeah,
but they don't have Ben Johnson calling the plays anymore
now that he's in Chicago, Aaron.

Speaker 2 (01:59:17):
Glenn's in New York.

Speaker 4 (01:59:19):
I'm very interested to see how the Lions respond to
a disappointing playoff exit early last season. Jared Goff, you know,
kind of the savior of football in Detroit. Are they
going to continue to be the class of the NFC North,
which I think is going to be a very very
tough division this year. Can they win that division again
and maybe threaten for the one seed again. It's a

(01:59:40):
great point.

Speaker 2 (01:59:41):
They're always hurt too, and they lost some of their
guys out of the secondary that were good players for
them that left when Aaron Glenn left as well.

Speaker 4 (01:59:50):
Yes, and then the player I'm interested in watching this
year is Bryce Young. I'm interested to see how you know,
he kind of he got benched, he watched Dalton for
a couple couple weeks, got the starting job back in
and played well on the tail end of last year.
It feels like Carolina has kind of done everything they
could to put talent around him. They're hesitant to trade
Adam Thielen. I know the Vikings have been pursuing thelan

(02:00:11):
for trade and Carolina is very hesitant to let him go,
which kind of tells you where Carolina is at. They
play in a week division. They think a good year
from Bryce Young, they think they can win that division.
So I'm very interested to see how Bryce Young plays
this year. So yeah, I got the Lions's and Bryce
Young and team you mentioned was on my list as well.

Speaker 2 (02:00:30):
The Minnesota Vikings because JJ McCarthy at quarterback hasn't really
had the best camp. I think myself and many others
kind of see Kevin O'Connell as the quarterback whisperer, and
they're kind of the exact opposite of the Bengals, where
it's like, Okay, our offense can keep us in games
until our defense figures it out. Well, it's the other

(02:00:51):
way for Minnesota. Their defense with Brian Flores can keep
them in games until their offense figures it out. With
JJ McCarthy just and Jefferson coming back from the hamstring injury,
Jordan Addison suspended for three games, like, it's gonna be
really really interesting to see what that team looks like
in Week three when the Bengals go up there. It's

(02:01:11):
not gonna be easy, But that's one of those matchups
where it's like, Okay, their offense is trying to figure
out the Bengals defense is trying to figure it out.
Can that be a game that the Bengals have a
bit of an advantage? But Bryce Young is a great
call because he was awesome in that game. Right at
the end of the year against Kansas City, where they
almost knocked off the Chiefs. I mean, he was fantastic,

(02:01:31):
looked like the first round pick. Yeah, that's good stuff.
I kind of forgot about Bryce Young. Let's go back
to the phones. Let's talk to Scott in Dayton. What's up, Scott?

Speaker 6 (02:01:42):
How you doing?

Speaker 2 (02:01:43):
I'm all right, man?

Speaker 6 (02:01:44):
Good?

Speaker 39 (02:01:45):
So is that you'll have to hang with me here
for just a minute. Is every offensive line in any
NFL good?

Speaker 3 (02:01:55):
No?

Speaker 6 (02:01:55):
No?

Speaker 39 (02:01:56):
Is every guard set in the NFL?

Speaker 6 (02:02:02):
No?

Speaker 39 (02:02:03):
Then why should somebody like Dalton Rysner, who's nobody's even
looking at, Why should he be an answer?

Speaker 2 (02:02:13):
That's why I try to say, Yeah, it's like, there's
gonna be guys that get cut, there's gonna be guys
that get moved around. But like, I don't know that
he really is an answer. There's a reason why he's
not been signed by any.

Speaker 6 (02:02:27):
Of those teams.

Speaker 15 (02:02:29):
Right.

Speaker 39 (02:02:30):
I did see that the Patriots released a fairly good guard,
or at least one that was drafted high.

Speaker 2 (02:02:38):
Yeah, I see him the Patriots. Did I know the
Eagles released a guy earlier today that's a potential guard,
guy that the Bengals would be looking at. So, yeah,
some of those are going to happen.

Speaker 39 (02:02:49):
So when you look at the pecking order of who
they should pick up, or if anybody they should pick
up a guard, wouldn't somebody who's then released by a
quality club best the first order rather than somebody like
Dalton Reisner.

Speaker 2 (02:03:10):
I think the point most people would say is, yeah,
you can do that. You can wait for those guys,
but you're not guaranteed to get them, because the Bengals
are seventeenth in the priority list. And then secondly, you
have thirty million dollars in cap space still that you
could afford to give Reisner two and a half three
million dollars rather than just keep scraping the bargain band

(02:03:34):
and getting these guys off these veteran deals or off
waivers or whatever it might be.

Speaker 39 (02:03:38):
Well, but again that kind of goes back to our
meaning years and my point. If Dalton Reisner is still
out there and nobody's offering them anything, why would you
even look at him.

Speaker 2 (02:03:51):
Yeah, there are specific metrics of how he performs in
past protection that would make sense for the style of
offense the Bengals run. Other than that, though, I think
there is a bit of a drop off, especially as
a run blocker and I know the Bengals want to
get better as a running team this year, right, and

(02:04:11):
so they're looking at him saying, listen, we want you
to come in here to compete. We're not going to
guarantee that you're going to start, so we're trying to
give you a veteran salary. He wants a salary that's
closer to being a starting guard, and the Bengals are like,
we can't promise you that.

Speaker 3 (02:04:26):
That's right.

Speaker 39 (02:04:27):
Yeah, I've just been perplexed. He's one guy. I always
think most NFL teams have one hole on their line,
and I just don't know that it's can't we shift
one of the guys like Seth McLoughlin out who plays center,
or I guess they're high on the league guy too.

(02:04:50):
Can't we shift one of them out or move the
guy who's playing center now to a guard.

Speaker 15 (02:04:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:04:57):
I understand they're a little hesitant with moving Headcarris because
you don't really want a rookie or a first year
player playing center, But I don't quite understand the hesitancy
to give those other two reps at guard and Scott
I gotta go, thank you for the phone call. I
think that that's that makes sense. If you're gonna move
Cody Ford around, if you're gonna move Jalen Rivers around,
why can't you also be open to moving around those

(02:05:19):
two guys who play that position. I think that that
makes sense, and I don't quite understand why the Bengals
haven't been more open to it. We'll take a quick break,
we'll be back. This is SINCEY three to sixty ESPN
fifteen thirty. Time flies when you're having fun. My thanks
to James Rapine and Jeff Carr for joining the show today.

(02:05:40):
Tony's back tomorrow. I know we're gonna have an in
studio guest from Montgomery in I don't know much about
that yet because communication's poor. I also know that Joe
Daneman is gonna join us at two pm tomorrow. Looking
forward to talking with Joe. But I had to push
this off. I have to push this. I had to

(02:06:01):
push this off, but I gotta get it in. It's
time for our Postman Law Injury report delivered by Postman
Law Injured Postman deliver snow real update on Tyler Stevenson
other than he was fitted for a padded thumb guard
that will be inserted inside his catcher's mitt, but the
Reds are being very cautious to let that fracture heal.

(02:06:23):
His timeline is still early September, so still gonna be
a little bit of a little bit before Tyler Stevenson
is back. Chase Burns, though is out to playing catch
one hundred and five to one hundred and fifteen feet.
He is supposed to throw a side session in Arizona
or excuse me, in Los Angeles tomorrow, and Francona is

(02:06:44):
hopeful for his return. Meanwhile, Rhet Lauder has now thrown
two side sessions since he got a clean MRI back
on his obleaque and that gave him the green light
to start throwing from the mound. He has set for
his third and fourth side sessions tomorrow and August twenty ninth,
after which the club will decide whether he's ready to

(02:07:04):
face hitters in a live bullpen session. He is still
not expected back this season. Meanwhile, on August twenty second,
Nicolodolo faced hitters for three simulated innings and he is
still on pace to come off the injured list and
start August twenty seventh in that finale against the Dodgers.

(02:07:26):
That's Today's Postman Law Injury Report delivered by Postman Law
Injured Call eight four to four Postman. We'll talk to
Moegger in just a couple of minutes. Before we do, Drew,
I gotta ask you, as we are set for Bengals
Browns coming up thirteen days from now. I've seen a
lot of Shador Sanders chatter. I know you're a big

(02:07:48):
Cleveland Browns fan. What is the status? What is the
vibe in Cleveland right now? Give us a scouting report
on the Browns two weeks ahead of the opener.

Speaker 4 (02:07:57):
Well, when the two teams take the field in Cleveland
in a couple of weeks, Joe Flacco will be the
starting quarterback. Great tweet from Paul Danner Junior. That statement
was also true in two thousand and eight. Joe Flacco
starting Week one against the Bengals. A great tweet from
our guy, Paul Danner Junior.

Speaker 34 (02:08:12):
There.

Speaker 4 (02:08:13):
I think the Browns are going to carry four quarterbacks
to start the season.

Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
It will not be that way all year.

Speaker 4 (02:08:18):
I think as soon as somebody calls about the availability
of Kenny Pickett, the Browns will jump at the chance
to deal him. I think they will roll into the
season with Dylan Gabriel and shoot Or Sanders. Sanders had
one really good preseason game, one not good preseason game.
Dylan Gabriel showed some showed some good things in the
two games that he played. So I think the Browns

(02:08:39):
are going to ride Flacco until the wheels fall off,
which I think could be somewhere around week eight or
week nine.

Speaker 2 (02:08:45):
What about Mason Graham, the defensive they drafted out of Michigan.
So this was what I was going to say.

Speaker 4 (02:08:50):
Outside of you know, the quarterbacks and quin Shawn Junkins,
who remains unsigned due the investigations that he will not
be charged for. The Browns may have done a really
good job with this past draft class. A lot of
the draft picks have shown well. Dylan Sampson has looked
good and camp, Mason Graham has looked great in camp.
And I think the best player from this draft class

(02:09:12):
when it's all said and done, is gonna be Carson
Swessinger linebacker.

Speaker 3 (02:09:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:09:17):
I yelled a loud explotive at the television when they
drafted him at the start of the second round. If
I'm not mistake.

Speaker 4 (02:09:24):
Andrew Berry was quoted as saying after the preseason game
the other day that drafting Carson Swessinger was quote like
adding a five year vet. I think he's gonna be
the play caller, he's gonna wear the green dot, he's
gonna play every play. So I think Carson Swessinger is
primed for a nice season this year, which is good
because the Browns are a little light on linebacker help.
They've stayed pretty healthy throughout the training camp. They're one

(02:09:46):
big big loss was Martin Emerson Junior rupturing his achilles
early on in camp in a contract year.

Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
That's very disappointing for him.

Speaker 4 (02:09:54):
But Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome expected to be there week one,
and of course Miles Garrett will be there week one
as well.

Speaker 2 (02:10:02):
Probably before everybody. He'll be there for everybody else with
the way he drives. How many games are the Browns
gonna win? I've stood on that they're gonna go six
and eleven. Okay, I think they'll go I think they'll
go six and eleven. They have a tough, tough opening
schedule their first seven games. I believe they play a

(02:10:23):
f C North or NFC North teams, So that is
a tough way to start your season. But you know,
the Browns.

Speaker 4 (02:10:30):
They're not gonna light the scoreboard up like the Bengals are,
but I do think they'll have a good defense. I
think the definite strength of the Browns will be on
the defensive line with Mason Graham, Miles Garrett and company.
So in order for the Browns to win Week one,
they're gonna have to play run the ball well, get
to get after Joe Burrow, maybe create a takeaway, and

(02:10:51):
just kind of keep the ball out of Joe Burrow's hands.

Speaker 2 (02:10:54):
Run the ball well.

Speaker 4 (02:10:55):
So that's gonna be the recipe for the Bengals, and
that's gonna be the recipe for the Browns to win
any games that they may win.

Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
This I'm going to be the recipe to beat the
Bengals for every single team that and get pressure with
the four. All right, that's your Brown's update the scouting report,
the first of many from Drew wester Heidi on the
Cleveland Browns this year. Drew, thank you so much. Moegar
joins us next for quick hits here on Sincy three
to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 1 (02:11:21):
Continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station. It's time
for Sincy three sixty quick Kits on ESPN fifteen.

Speaker 2 (02:11:30):
Yes, indeed it is. And joining us now for quick
kits is the man that's going to be in this
chair from three to six this afternoon, Moegar.

Speaker 13 (02:11:38):
I just experienced my favorite human impulse. Okay, about twenty
minutes ago, I went downstairs to purchase an energy drink.

Speaker 2 (02:11:46):
Yes, needed a little little punch. Yeah, on a Monday.

Speaker 13 (02:11:49):
So I go down to the lobby by my energy drink,
walk back to where the elevators are, hit the button,
stand there and wait. Yes, somebody else walks up.

Speaker 15 (02:11:59):
What a do?

Speaker 13 (02:12:00):
Ninety percent of the time they're going up as well.
The button has been hit, the little light is on.

Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
They still hit it to the same floor. Not the
same floor.

Speaker 13 (02:12:11):
There's an up button and a down button. Oh oh
oh the up button. Up button has been hit. Why
do people do this?

Speaker 2 (02:12:17):
They hit it anyway. They don't trust you.

Speaker 13 (02:12:19):
As if to say to the person standing there, you bonehead,
this elevator would be there waiting for me, wide open
had you not hit the button. I don't trust you.
Even though the light on the button indicates the button
has been pressed. Ninety percent of the time, if you
are waiting for the elevator to go up or down,
and then someone also walks up to wait for the elevator.

(02:12:41):
They will hit the button even though it's already been pressed.
And so I so wanted to say to this guy,
why did you do that? Yeah, but I decided, you know,
I don't need to complicate my life, you know, I
don't need I don't need something else. And then it
turns into a whole big thing. And then maybe he
takes it the wrong way, and I see this guy
in the building later on. Life is complicated enough these days?

(02:13:01):
Why do you get an energy drink instead of a coffee?
I like coffee. I drink two cups in the morning.
I can't drink coffee after like eleven o'clock. I don't
know why. And I like coffee, yeah, but I can't
drink I can't do iced coffee, And like God, drink
after breakfast doesn't really do it for me.

Speaker 2 (02:13:22):
Most people have burnt their tongue while eating something hot.
Have you ever burnt your lip while eating something hot?

Speaker 3 (02:13:29):
Because last night.

Speaker 2 (02:13:30):
I bit into a jalapeno popper. Yeah, and the cream
cheese that came from that popper was so hot it
bit off it burnt off a little part of my
skin on my lip. Really, Yeah, have you ever experienced that? No,
I can't stop thinking. It's been distracting me all day.
I've burnt my tongue. I've not burnt my gum. I
still burned the roof of your mouth. I ain't.

Speaker 13 (02:13:51):
Yeah, I can't eat a lot of cereal because it
carves up the top of my mouth. Like I love
I love like kid cereals. Sure, and my eight year
old of indulges. I can't eat more than just like
a bite because it just carves up the roo. I
still have a scar on the inside of my gum
from what I had braces when I was in the
fifth grade. Really, because I apparently went to like a

(02:14:13):
butcher for an orthodontist.

Speaker 2 (02:14:15):
I bit my cheek twice in two days eating last week,
and that was miserable.

Speaker 6 (02:14:20):
It's good.

Speaker 13 (02:14:21):
Yeah, what's on your show today? So you know Trey Hendrickson, Yeah,
what is this gonna look like? So I the Jordan
Schultz Report, where now they're gonna talk about giving him
a raise but not an extension. Where were the rest

(02:14:41):
of you people back in January when I was suggesting
this is what you should do correct. This is frustrating
to me. I you know, I talked about a couple
of different things on Friday, both of which to use
corporates be coming to circle back to one is the
whole boomerous eyes and thing, which is I just love,
I love, I just I love this story so much.

(02:15:04):
We're boomer They've said, you want to come back, cool,
pay your own way minus the tickets, which, by the way,
I hope he made the deadline to get the tickets.

Speaker 2 (02:15:11):
Yeah, don't want to give boomers after all this, he
really should show up. Yes, he should show up and
go you know what, I'm good, I'll pay my own way. Yeah,
I'm fine, he should I'm okay.

Speaker 13 (02:15:20):
So I want to spend a few more minutes on
that because I got a surprising amount of pushback to
my take on it, which was just don't ask boomer's
size and the.

Speaker 2 (02:15:28):
If you're in the ring of honor, you shouldn't have
to pay. I agree with you.

Speaker 13 (02:15:34):
It's about like, do you want to do things first
class all the way? I ever heard of an organization
described that first class all the first class all the
way means you pick that up if you're a franchise
that's valued at four billion dollars. But like I am,
I am frustrated by the fact that tomorrow is like
a huge day. Tomorrow should be a footnote. Tomorrow should

(02:15:56):
be an opportunity. It's cut down day, so that period
of time between four pm tomorrow and noon on Wednesdays
should be an opportunity to make some tweaks. We're looking
at it as like it's Christmas morning, Like, oh my god,
the Bengals, their difference maker is gonna come via team
that cut a guy.

Speaker 2 (02:16:11):
This is a problem. We're gonna discuss Tony. Oh that
Mike Hilton and Trey Flowers were cut today, right, And.

Speaker 13 (02:16:17):
So I thought myself, hu uh huh, Chris Crocker not available.
But that's that's what we're It's not unlike trade deadline day.
We started talking about trade deadline day in March. We've
been talking about cutdown days since, like free agency was
going on. So we are going to spend some time
on that. We'll talk with Tony. Tony's gonna join me.

(02:16:38):
He's in preview reports. Wow, this is how hard he works.
He's not here today with you, but he's still gonna
join my show. For his contractually obligated season preview, R Guy,
I think I.

Speaker 2 (02:16:49):
Think he hates Mondays because he's not gonna be here
Labor Day because we're off, and he's also not going
to be here for the Tony and Most show that
Monday after the Bengals and the Browns. So three straight Mondays.
I think I've determined he doesn't like Mondays. Golf outings
happen on Mondays, Yes, they do. Do you guys have
a best of shows? That's one of the many things

(02:17:10):
I'm being tasked to figure out. We have a best
of show in the can already? We actually found three
hours worth, Yeah, remarking that's my problem. I'm going to
struggle to find that for us, and we're going to
talk about the best story of the Reds baseball season. Oh, yes,
the best story of the Reds baseball season. They win
yesterday because that's what they do. They always avoid getting swept.
The Mets lose Drew and I came up with the

(02:17:32):
idea that if they are to go through the season
without being swept and they do make the playoffs next year,
there should be a Bobblehead series that they all connect
together and it's the breaking brooms one over like your
head over your knee, you know what I mean, snapping
them in half. So here's my question.

Speaker 13 (02:17:52):
Let's say they get through the regular season without getting swept,
but then they make the postseason two and then they
get swept, and then they get swept than a best
of three series.

Speaker 2 (02:18:01):
Yes, what do we do with that? Well, you can't
do the bobblehead idea, but it would be like, that's us,
that's what we do right, right fully expected.

Speaker 13 (02:18:14):
Twenty twelve Reds don't have a starting pitcher, missus. Start
first game of the playoffs Johnny Quato, eight chucks and
he's done right, that's how it works. Twenty ten finally
make the postseason for the first time in fifteen years
and get no hit for just the second time in
postseason history.

Speaker 2 (02:18:30):
But that's us.

Speaker 13 (02:18:31):
But a best of three series getting swept would only
be two I still count that as a sweep. I
did too, Okay, I did too. That's Moegger. He's next
from three to six this afternoon. Thank you so much
for listening. Thank you to Drew. The buttons we're producing.
We're going up.

Speaker 2 (02:18:45):
We're going up. The red already been determined we're going up.

Speaker 13 (02:18:50):
Why on earth do you think I'm standing there in
front of the elevator just to see?

Speaker 2 (02:18:56):
Like, what about when you're in there and you ask
them what floor and they just press it themselves. You
know I do that sometimes I don't want to feel like,
you know, I feel like I owe you something now,
like oh, you hit six for me, so now okay?

Speaker 15 (02:19:09):
And how would go?

Speaker 2 (02:19:09):
Yeah, it would make it out you have. Then you
have to tell them how it could be.

Speaker 13 (02:19:12):
Elevator's weird for me here because the rains stuck in ours.
I was stuck in the one in Mount Adams once.

Speaker 2 (02:19:18):
I was stuck in this one once. Uh, you know,
elevator small talk. I'm not great at all.

Speaker 13 (02:19:22):
Right, I'm not good at this, but I'm not going
to the elevator small talk, which is coming up next
five seconds.

Speaker 2 (02:19:28):
Social interaction is always weird. For next. This is the
