Speaker 6 (02:02):
Drew.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
I just want to I want to to hammer this home.
I want to emphasize this. FC Cincinnati is in first
place in the MLS and yet they are making moves
to make their roster even better.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Huh how about that?
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Can you imagine that type of forward thinking?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Wow, that's incredible. It's unbelievable. What an organization they are.
They just they operate the right way.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Shout out to f C Cincinnati man, I'm happy for him.
High school football is backyard, Drew. Where did you go
to high school?
Speaker 2 (02:34):
I went to Layman Catholic High School in Sydney, Ohio.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Layman Catholic YEP.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
High School of two hundred.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Is that Sidney Layman?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
That is Sidney Layman, Yes, Sidney Layman.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I think when I was in high school, came down
and got beat at Redding's Veteran Memorial Stadium in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Well that would oh okay at the stadium, Yes, that
probably did happen. Yeah, probably did have to travel, probably
in the same spot. I was gonna say, I don't
think we played retting. That wouldn't have gone well had
had we done that. Maybe it was basket ball, Maybe
it was I'll tell you this.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I know that I have a friends that I went
to high school with that are listening right now that
know the name Sidney Layman. I can't remember if it
was basketball or football. I do know we won, yep,
So take that. Who does Sidney Layman open up with?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Let's let's see Sidney Layman opens up tonight, I believe
with Riverside, which is a conference game to start off
the season, so big, a big one for the Calves tonight.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Some some of the other notable high school football games
that are happening tonight and tomorrow, Cooper and Anderson should
be a fun one. Those are two high powered offenses.
Princeton molar Is tomorrow. Molar with Matt Ponatowski is set
to do big things again this year. East Central and
Lawrenceburg is always a battle that that I like to watch.
(03:50):
And the big one tonight Lakota West at Saint Xavier.
That's a big way to kick off the season. Lakota
West and say next. Of course, none of those can
compare to what's gonna happen at Vetter Memorial Stadium tonight
when Williamsburg, Yes, Williamsburg travels to Reading to take on
the Blue Devils.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh yeah, and a correction for me sending Layman owens
up with Dolvis Saint John's of the ball. So a
tough one, A tough one for the Cavs tonight. Not
gonna be good. Let's what we'll see. I think we
might have a little bit of a squad here a
little bit this year. From what from what I hear
from the intel, I've gathered, Layman might be pretty good
this year. So I'm gonna have a lot of guys
playing both ways.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
As his custom, there's a lot of at Laman Cap
there's a lot of games early in the season where
you don't really know much about the opponent, and I
think that's true in college and the NFL as well. Elder,
of course they play at the pit. They're hosting Mountain
Zion Prep from Maryland tonight. I couldn't tell you anything
about my Mountain z Ion Prep.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, how did like do you get? You get just
got to go off like last year's film, don't you know?
I guess because I feel like, well, I don't know
if the.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Is the transfer portal big in high school now too
with prep schools, it probably is. Say, you can't tell
who's gonna be on the team from here to hear.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Some other news we got going on. Let's talk about
a league baseball. The Reds didn't play last night, but
but the Cincinnati Reds will will take the field tonight
in Arizona, just a half game back out of the
National League Wildcard.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Shout out to the Washington Nationals.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Shot out to the Nationals. My guy, Frank the tank Man,
I'm starting to worry about some of the videos that
he's leaving. After these Mets losses, Reds Diamondbacks at nine
and the Mets they're going to face an opponent that
they have struggled with over the last few years, and
that is in Atlanta for a series against the Braves
this weekend. So a lot, a lot to watch for
(05:36):
out of Major League Baseball.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, and if you get through this weekend, after the
Mets play the Braves, then they play the Philadelphia Phillies.
So a good opportunity for the Reds here to maybe
grab a hold of that wild card spot. I forget
who made this point, But it was a good one.
I thought it was a good one. It feels like
the Mets have a lot more pressure on them, oh
my gosh, than the Reds do. Yeah, you know, no
(05:58):
one kind of you know, some people expected the to
hover right around this area, maybe you know, threatening the wildcard.
The Mets had World Series aspirations, yes, and they.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Have twenty games over at one point, correct.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
And they have all of the pressure on them to
perform in that market, big money team, highest payroll I think,
maybe maybe second to the Dodgers. Yeah, so just go
out there, play loose. Yep, have a good weekend this
weekend in Arizona, get two of three, because when the
Reds go out West, we've seen it time and time again,
that's kind of where the season could get sunk. I know,
(06:30):
we wanted the sweep of the Angels. I wanted it
as badly as everyone else. But we find ourselves in
that position again where the Reds are a half game back.
Just kind of chip away, chip away, chip away, keep
doing what you're doing and just kind of let the
Mets self combust.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yeah, that's that's what you're hoping for at this point.
It is it's awesome, and I know it comes with stress,
and I know that, as you just mentioned, Drew, there's
a lot of people that wanted to sweep over the Angels.
It's it's hard to compartmentalize series win is good? You
want this because now you're in the thick of a
playoff line. Correct, And we haven't been able to say
(07:04):
that in recent years. As we sit here on August
twenty second, and we're talking about a huge weekend for
the Cincinnati Reds with a chance to be in the
playoffs by the time the weekend is over, like that
is that is something you relish. You relish in something
like that. That's what you want to be a part of.
You want to have those opportunities when the season is
(07:24):
here and you get that opportunity late in August with
some meaningful baseball that's going to be happening over the weekend. Yes,
it puts a microscope on every game. Yes, they need
to find consistency hitting. Yes, there is a concern in
my opinion, with the bullpen right now. And you can
go back to the game against the Angels and you
can ask the same question we asked yesterday. With an
off day yesterday. Why why did the Reds turn to
(07:47):
Graham Ashcraft in the seventh or the eighth inning? Nick
Martinez was at ninety pitches, he had gone back to
back innings retiring the side in order, they go to
the bullpen in the seventh instead of bringing Martinez out,
which bumps everyone up, and all of a sudden, Barlow's
pitching the seventh and Ashcraft, who's been terrible, pitches the eighth.
(08:10):
I'm not criticized because I know Terry frank Cone has
been in this position before. But it felt like they
didn't put all hands on deck in that finale against
the Angels, especially with an off day yesterday.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Yeah, it did kind of feel that way, and you
wonder about Pegan. They used santition to grab the save,
and I believe that was Tuesday Night's game, So, you know,
is it just the fact of Pegan maybe just needed
a reset after that Brewers series that he's been getting
worked a lot. You know, that back end has gotten
worked more than any back end in baseball, feels like,
so maybe just trying to get Pegan that extra day
(08:44):
of rest plus the off day get him fresh for
the weekend and up, especially when you go up and
face the Dodgers in LA. So maybe just trying to
get him fresh. And you know, Ashcraft, he's a part
of that back end. And when you get put into
a game, in a tie game in the eighth thing,
you're expected to get out of that ending without giving
up a run. Unfortunately, Uh, you know, he gives up
(09:07):
the little flair shot that scores a run, gives up
the double down the line, a wild pitch moves them
to third without them having to record an out for it.
Almost almost tap danced around it, but unfortunately couldn't get
the job done. And you know, the Reds left a
village on base that night too, So you know, and
that that's baseball, that's that's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
And more often than not though they've had that problem
this year.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Correct, Yes, And you know, if you go look at
Major League Baseball as a whole, lot of teams struggle
with have had times where they struggled getting runners in
with runners in scoring positions. So you know, off day
kind of reset, go against an Arizona team that is
out of it, uh and traded away traded away pieces.
And I'll say that about the Angels. The Angels looked
like a team that wasn't in the playoff Hunt right
(09:51):
those first three games that that was some of the
most comically bad outfield defense I've seen. And then of
course their left fielder makes a diving catch on a
one hundred and eight mile per ho off the bat
swing by Ellie. You know, that's just baseball.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
We have a lttel Avid and Singer going this weekend.
On Monday, Hunter Green will go on the road in
uh Los Angeles and then Nick Martinez will be opposed
by Shohei Otani got roughed up his last time out,
So they're gonna see Sheehan, Otani and Kershaw in that
Los Angeles Dodger series. So you want to get your
work done against Arizona because we know the talent that
(10:24):
obviously Los Angeles has. But as we sit here today, Drell,
if you're staking on it, do you think this is
a playoff team or do you think they're on the
outside looking in.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
I'm gonna go, I'm gonna sit put it on the record.
On August twenty second, twenty twenty five, this Friday, I'm
gonna say the Reds make the postseason. Okay, I'm going
to say they make it and it's I came on
this show earlier on in the year in May when
they were kind of struggling, and I said, this is
nothing more than a five hundred or a slightly above
five hundred team, and they prove me wrong. And you know,
(10:56):
the the deadline acquisitions by Krawl. I've had my issues
with Ni Krawl. I've had my she's with ownership in
the front office, just like everybody else. But I can't
remember the last time that the Reds made this many,
you know, powerful acquisition that the day like, Andhar has
been exactly as better than advertised correct and his defense
(11:19):
has been great, and he's hitting better. You know, if
you dig into launch angle and all the nerd stuff
that I kind of like to dig into with baseball,
his launch angle is much better than it was with Pittsburgh.
I think a fresh voice, a fresh pitching voice for
him has done wonders. He kind of struggled a little
bit his first you know, nine games or so, and
then I saw a graphic on the game Wednesday night
(11:41):
that in his last nine he was hitting three thirty
three and he had two hits on Wednesday night. So
if you can get just average two below average hitting
production from him at the bottom of your order. He's
gonna make his value up in terms of defense because
it seems like he does something really really cool on
a nightly basis on the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
We'll update you later in the show and where things
are at from an injury point of view for this
Reds team, it is worth noting. And I think you know,
for me, drew one of the questions going forward. I
saw Jeremy Rosse say this earlier in the week. It
feels like the Reds have exhausted every possible option on
what to do with Matt McClain this year except sending
him down. He's now batting ninth. They moved key Brian
(12:20):
Hayes up. I can't believe I'm having the conversation on
August twenty second, But does putting Matt McLain on the
bench for Santiago Espinal give this team a better chance
to win or maybe even a South Stewart here down
the road.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
That's so, that's the question is when September call ups
roll around, can you get through this next week and
then have a spot ready for South Stewart to come in?
And I really and see what he can do.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
And ideally get Lodolo back and have Chase Burns back
and maybe you can move him to the bullpen and
you get Lttel or Martinez in the bullpen, and now
that strengthens the back end as well. But you also
got to get some guys healthy for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
And from the Cincinnty in choir yesterday, Lodola looks like
Lodolo could come back on August twenty seventh in that
Dodger series.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
I know he's facing hitters in a batting practice session today. Yes,
that is something to obviously keep an eye on. Terry
Francona said earlier in the week that Burns is going
to resume a throwing program on Monday.
Speaker 8 (13:17):
YEP.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
And a lot a lot to keep up with with
the Cincinnati Reds. We'll dive into them a little bit
as we go along the day. NFL wise, we had
some Thursday night football last night and a scare for
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their first round draft pick, Derek Carmon
left on a stretcher or left on a cart, but
he was seen later in the game back on the
(13:38):
sidelines talking with Cam Hayward and TJ. Watt appears that
they dodged a bullet did the Pittsburgh Steelers with their
first round pick Derek Carmon. And how about the Giants
last night? They put up forty two points against the Patriots.
They get a touchdown pass from Jamis, a touchdown pass,
and I thought Jackson Dart looked really good last night.
Touchdown pass from Jackson Dart and then Tommy DeVito seventeen
(14:00):
to twenty for one hundred and ninety eight yards and
three touchdowns. That's a pretty good night. The Giants finished
the preseason three and zero. They beat the Patriots, who
obviously did not play any of their starters last night.
But uh, Steelers were a nineteen to ten winner. Giants
worry winner last night as well. I did read that
Shador Sanders will play Saturday, Yes for the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Yep, it's gonna be some of the starters. Joe Flacco
will get some snaps to start off. I've read from
Stefanski about twenty to twenty five. Gabriel is gonna play
as well as Shadur. I don't think Canny Pickett is playing,
so Kenny Pickett, it was nice knowing you. Yeah, don't
think he's gonna be around on the Browns for much longer.
So I think the Browns are going to roll into
the season with Flacco, Gabriel and Sanders and kind of
(14:46):
just go from there. They're gonna, you know, ride Joe
Flacco until the wheels fall off, which you know, could
be by week three. So we'll, we'll, we'll see, but
you know, it would be interesting to see what happens
with the Browns. I will say I've been lightly encouraged
with what I've seen from the Browns in the preseason
this year. You know, for as loud as this, you know,
(15:06):
training camp in preseason could have been, Yeah, it feels
like it really hasn't been. Feels like it's just kind
of them going about their business. And we'll see week
one when they line it up, what happens up there
in Cleveland with the Bengals and the Browns.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Speaking of distractions, speaking of loudness at training camp, it's
not been that loud around Trey Hendrickson. And we'll spend
some more time today talking about Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 9 (15:29):
Drew.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Let me pose the question I asked Austin earlier in
the week. If you look at the holdouts right now,
and let's just take the big three. Cam Hayward was
back to practicing, so I'm assuming they get something done.
But if you take Terry McLaurin, Micah Parsons, and Trey
Hendrickson and not rate them from how good they are,
but how much do the teams that they play on
need them to succeed, how would you rate them?
Speaker 2 (15:51):
I would rank Trey one, Micah two, and Hayward really, yes,
what about McLaurin. Terry McLaurin, well, after seeing how Deebo
looked in that preseason game against the Bengals on Monday night,
I kind of have him a little bit further down
the line. A lot of people are down on debo
this year, so it'll be interesting to see. But I
(16:12):
think all four are very, very valuable. Yeah, I think
you're like I would much rather have If I were
fans of those teams, I would much rather have those
guys on the field for Week one than not.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
You know, It's it's weird because I think I think
Washington's got the fifth or sixth best odds to win
the Super Bowl. I don't know if they can do
it without Terry McLaurin on offense, I questions around Brian Robinson.
Like Micah Parsons, I think is the best player out
of that group, but I don't think he makes Dallas
a contender even if he plays percent. Again, my worry
(16:42):
with Trey is that the defense has been so bad.
Trey's not great against the run. How much better does
the defense become if Trey Hendrickson is on it? Because
I saw Dani Losku earlier in the week said if
Trey Hendrickson's not on this team, the Bengals aren't playoff team,
and he said if he is, they're a super Bowl contender.
I don't think that the is that big just because
I think this defense is going to be bad regardless,
(17:04):
I think I would put McLaurin and then Hendrickson one
to two on that list because I do think that
what Washington wants to accomplish, it's pivotal that Terry McLaurin
is on the field.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Yeah, I left out McLaurin in mins I was only
going off the three D heyway, So I would probably
slot McLaurin into that second spot behind hendricks.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
And the madness around Michah Parsons and Jerry Jones. Now
that Jerry Jones is doing like this whole media tour,
he was almost Michael Irvan. Now he's almost Stephen A.
Smith today.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Well, the Cowboys doc just dropped on Netflix.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yes, that drops and uh he was I don't know
Michah Parsons was speaking to uh or I'm sorry, not
Michael Parsons. Jerry Jones was speaking on Michael Irvan's YouTube
channel on Thursday and said that the agreement he believed
he made with Micah Parsons quote would have made him
the highest paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in
the NFL. Jones went on to say, no one appreciates
(17:55):
mikeh more than the Cowboys or me. Nobody has ever
offered him more money than I have to play football. Period.
He then went on to say this. When we went
to send the details to his agent, his agent said, quote,
stick it up here. You know what, Just so you're clear,
that's David Mullagedtta. Now, Ryan Clark drewl last night then
(18:17):
reaches out to David Mullagetta, and Mullagetta says, I have
never nor will I ever use that phrase in speaking
with a team or an ownership group. Who would you
believe in that?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Oh, that's tough.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Jerry Jones is saying that they had an offer to
make him the highest paid non quarterback with the most
guarantees ever, and Mullagetta said, stick it up here.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
You know what, I just I find it hard that
an agent would say something like that, even if it
is to JR. Because because these owners are you know,
they're connected, And if you said something like that, especially
you know, the Cowboys are a unique, you know, unique
situation because Jerry Jones is the owner slash GM slash
president slash. You know, he runs the world there. But
(19:01):
if you said that, he would definitely go like, don't
pay this guy, YadA, YadA, YadA. Now would the other
owners listen? That's an entire other debate. But I find
it hard to believe that an agent would ever say either,
especially to being made the highest paid player ever that
never that did not play.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
For if it was a disrespectful offer. And again, you
you take this for right now. It's Jerry's word, it's
Mollaghetta's word, it's Ryan Clark talking. You take it for
their word. But I would have a hard time believing
if someone says, Hey, you're going to be the highest
paid non quarterback ever and you got the most guarantees.
That might be a talking point, but I doubt that
agent would say stick it up here. You know what, correct,
That doesn't make sense. That's not good business. What is
(19:41):
good business is since he three sixty on a Friday,
we're just getting started. You can call in. You can
be a part of the show at five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. You can also leave us a talkback. We'll
get to those in hour number two. I want more.
We got to talk about more Bengals, and we'll get
your phone calls in because we get to our two
and hour three with Tommy G and Charlie G. And
(20:02):
we got our guy Robert Nunez at win Shuler stopping
by and talkbacks. You want to talk to us today,
try to get that phone call in an hour number one.
We'll get to some of those as we go. Five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We're on the home of the Bengals, ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 8 (20:16):
Lowegar.
Speaker 10 (20:17):
There was some pooling of the team last night.
Speaker 11 (20:18):
When it comes to sports, he's got something to say
for just natural byproducts and plenty of it.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Of poor play.
Speaker 11 (20:26):
Loegar today at three on ESPN fifteen thirtys.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Brought to you by Safe Auto give us three minutes
save up to twenty five percent on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 12 (20:50):
His first game at Yankee Stadium and he finds the
second deck.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
How about your first game at Yankee Stadium as a
Boston Red Sox hitting a bomb?
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Pretty cool?
Speaker 3 (21:06):
That's what Roman Anthony did last night. Welcome back, no
doubter since he three p sixty. There was a gasp
in the New York Faithful as that ball left the yard,
hit to the second deck in that short right portion
and right field as the Red Sox beat the Yankees.
Yankees continue their their downward spire a little bit, I
think as they enter today, Yankees lead the Wild Card,
(21:30):
but just I believe a half game up on the
Boston Red Sox. So there's a lot going on in
the American League Wildcard chases. Well and Drew, We've got
a trade in the National Football League. Oh, Brian Robinson Junior,
how about this? Thank you? According to Tom Pellisero, I
(21:54):
saw Adam Schefter, Jordan Schultz. Brian Robinson Junior, who last
year posts it's a career highs with four point three
yards per carry eight touchdowns in Washington, he gets a
fresh start. He goes to the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Wow for a sixth round pick. The forty nine ers
(22:16):
only had to give up a sixth round pick for
Brian Robinson Junior. Now, you know, one could fairly ask here, Drew,
what is San Francisco doing. Don't they have Christian McCaffrey still?
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Yeah, but how much can you rely on Christian McCaffrey
heading into this season? I think that is a pretty
good backup option. I would say if McCaffrey does have
some issues, so yeah, I'm surprised it only took a
six round pick to get him.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
But I am too a sixth round pick for Brian
Robinson Junior, I would say San Francisco won that deal,
and if you're Washington, you you now look to the future.
They I know that from watching their game against the
Bengals on Monday Night. They like that running back room
that they have. They like Austin Eckler, they like Jacry
Crosskey Merritt. I think they feel pretty good in Washington
(23:04):
with where they're at. Brian Robinson, even though coming off
a great year, seemed to be the odd man out
and he gets his fresh start, and all it took
was a six round pick for the San Francisco forty
nine ers. So there it is a trade in the
National Football League. Before we get to the rest of
the NFL and the Cincinnati Bengals as a whole, let's
take a couple phone calls. Let's start today with Mike
calling in. What's up?
Speaker 13 (23:24):
Mike is the word on McCaffrey is because I got
my close ties out on the coast. McCaffrey is in
best shape he's ever been in. So I really believe
McCaffrey's going to have a big year this year.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Yeah, but a great backup option in Robinson.
Speaker 13 (23:43):
Yeah, I'm kind of surprised because really they are saying
McCaffrey's completely well, yeah, and and really in great shape.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
But if you and if you're San Francisco, it only
takes you giving up a six round pick, even if
it doesn't work or McCaffrey is the guy, you're not
losing a.
Speaker 9 (23:59):
Ton No exactly.
Speaker 13 (24:02):
Uh, I agree with that, and I really do still
believe that the Raiders are going to get tray because
I read another article to this morning in the Oakland
Oakland Tribute that that I told you yesterday. There they're
they're just they're convinced that they can win this year.
Brady's been working with Geno Smith a lot, and I
(24:25):
kind of wondered if that was happening. So you can't
have a better Geno Stuff been around, obviously a pretty
good quarterback in his own right, but they have Brady
helping him refine his game. It's just can't make him
anything but better.
Speaker 8 (24:38):
We know that.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yeah, it feels like that to me makes the most
sense if they were to move on from Hendrickson. It
feels like the Raiders are the best fit.
Speaker 13 (24:47):
Yeah, And evidently, well we'll see, but it's gonna have
to happen pretty soon. I would say that I agree
with the Reds. I agree with Drew the Reds got
a good shot at this wild Card because I keep
thinking of that you're going to start turning and around
and they're just not.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Yep.
Speaker 13 (25:04):
I keep thinking they're gonna go on a run. They're
gonna go on a run, They're gonna go on a
round and the run just doesn't seem to show up,
especially when you're playing Washington two in a row. They
lost to Washington.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
Ye lost the series to Washington.
Speaker 13 (25:17):
Yeah, so that's not good. That's not good at all.
But I'm really excited about the college football start tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Yes, Iowa State Kansas State. It's a good one top
twenty five matchup.
Speaker 13 (25:29):
Yeah. And they got games all they got tons of
games on different networks, even small schools like you see
Davis playing Mercer or whatever. But it's it's pretty cool
just to see it come back with such force the
very first weekend. So and I know, and you don't
think they're gonna beat Nebraska on.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I think they got a chance. I I like the makeup,
I like what the offense has done. I'm worried about
the secondary and what Ryolan company can do. I think
Dana Holgerson's a sleeper as an offensive coordinator. He was
one of those guys that was a much better coordinator
than he was a head coach. And you know mount
Rule year three, there is a lot to be made
about how he turns programs around. So I'm worried about
(26:10):
the Bearcats defensively, but I do think they'll be able
to score against Nebraska.
Speaker 13 (26:15):
Now this series with Arizona, I'm I haven't seen the
pitching match up to yet because I know the Dbacks
just got a couple of pretty good starters, So I'm
not sure what you know what's going on with the starters,
at least for tonight.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
I know tonight is Ryan Nelson and Zach Lttel for
the Reds. I know Nelson on the year in ERA
under three point six, so he's he's been pretty good
for Arizona. I know tomorrow that it's Chris matt Is
going for Arizona against Andrew Abbott, So you like what
Abbott can do in that one because that's more of
(26:48):
a bullpen game. But in the finale on Sunday, they
do have Zach Gallon going for for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Speaker 13 (26:56):
And Zach can flat out pitch. Yeah, I really am.
Speaker 9 (26:59):
I really am.
Speaker 13 (27:00):
Like listening to your old trainer buddy from U see
when he comes on what's his name, Yeah, he's there.
I learned a lot when I listened to him. I
liked what he was explaining about blisters because I just
know him from having had blisters. They can take a
long time to heal it. If you have to work
with your hands, yes, whether it's pitching or anything. So
(27:21):
what did he finally say about that that blister thing
that it could be really bothers.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Yeah, yeah, you got to make sure it's one hundred
percent healed, and then you just got to hope that
you can manage it throughout the rest of the season.
Speaker 13 (27:33):
And the way he throws those sweepers hard, I bet
he puts a lot of stress on his fingertips. Anyway,
Thanks Tone, that's all I got.
Speaker 9 (27:41):
Appreciate the time.
Speaker 13 (27:42):
Mike, Thank you you too, you too, Thanks Thanks Drew, yep.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
One one quick note before we get onto another caller.
The Reds did see Ryan Nelson earlier on in the year.
Nelson only went three innings, gave up four hits, seven runs, seven,
earned four walks three strikeouts on seventy seven pitches. Again,
if you remember, that was the Incarnassian Strand series. The
Reds touched him up for five runs in the first
(28:07):
inning and then a Luxe Grand slam put the Reds
out of reaching that one. So the Reds have seen
Ryan Nelson and had success against Ryan Nelson earlier on
in the year.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
I like it. Let's get him again.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Let's get him again.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
What's up, Greg?
Speaker 8 (28:22):
Hey, how's it going, Tony?
Speaker 6 (28:23):
Happy?
Speaker 8 (28:24):
Happy Friday?
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah you too.
Speaker 14 (28:26):
Look, you know what bothers me almost as much as
two straight nine and eight seasons. I'm always a big
kind of division guy. In the last two years, they've
gone four and eight in the decision in the division.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Yep.
Speaker 14 (28:39):
And in fact, in twenty three at the end, I
remember calling you guys and saying, you know, this last
game against Cleveland, I think is really important to well,
at least important to me that they didn't take a
goose egg in the division. And then last year I
thought if they could go four and two, and I
wasn't so sure they could. It was kind of like
(29:00):
one of those hope they can that you know they
would make the playoffs, maybe finished eleven and six, at
worse ten and seven, which would make the which you know,
they get into playoffs. So now here we are this year,
and even before these two exhibition games, I'm thinking I
thought I was gonna call on the hotline and they
ask you this, right now, I see him going at
(29:22):
the best three and three.
Speaker 8 (29:23):
In the division. I was just wondering what you thought yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Greg, I appreciate the phone call. Thank you. I I
think that if the Bengals want to get to what
they need to do, I think four and two minimum
minimum in the division.
Speaker 8 (29:36):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
I don't. You can't lose one to Cleveland. I think
if you can split with Baltimore split against Pittsburgh, I
think you're in a good spot.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
I would agree with.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
That, maybe even sweet Pittsburgh as well.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
But just and you know, it goes without saying. Week
one is extremely important, especially around these parts. But man like,
starting zero to one with a loss to the Browns
would definitely leave a good taste in the mouth for
fans Team Yep and.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
The like, completely completely devastating. One more call and then
we'll get a break in. Ryan, what's up?
Speaker 15 (30:06):
So I got a theory on the Micah Parsons Jerry
Jones deal. Okay, I think Jerry around maybe February when
the Cowboys don't play football, was probably talking to Micah,
said Hey, I'm going to make you the highest paid
non quarterback.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Said, sounds great.
Speaker 15 (30:25):
Then the the Browns did what they do and paid
forty million dollars for Miles Garrett. Then Jamar Chase came in.
The agent gets a fax from Jerry because it's prior
of facts, and it says, hey, here's a deal for
thirty six or thirty seven. I've already agreed with him.
The agent is understandably irritated because you don't go around
(30:46):
him and said, nope, the new number is forty.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Two, forty three. YEP.
Speaker 15 (30:52):
I could see that, and Jerry, just being Jerry, just
thought he could go negotiate everything without the agent and
that all checks out of my book.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Yeah, I mean that very well could be how it
has gone. And obviously what's happened in the offseason with
other contracts raises the market for Micah Parsons. I just
think it's interesting now with Jerry Jones kind of on
this world tour talking to all the media outlets, what
it does now going forward to that relationship between him
and the Cowboys, Ryan, I appreciate the phone call man,
Thank you, Thanks Bob. Now, there is also something that's
(31:25):
happened that is catching some waves here locally, Drew, and
it pertains to a former Bengal great, Boomerasias and who
went ahead and read something on his podcast and I
want to touch on that when we get back because
people are having some fun with it. We'll discuss that
and more around the Bengals next the ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Hey Alexa, what's going on in baseball?
Speaker 16 (31:47):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Welcome back since he three to sixty hour number one
thanks to Skyline Jilly. Thank you for listening on ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. I want to get into
some things with the Bengals looking ahead to preseason game
number three in just a few moments. But there is
something Drew that has happened earlier this morning that folks
are having some fun with and some others are not
(32:21):
having fun with it. They think it's a little bit concerning.
But this is from boomeras iasin this was his radio
show earlier this morning. He revealed that the Bengals invited
him via email to the Ring of Honor weekend in October.
It includes two complimentary tickets, but the Ring of Honor
(32:43):
inductees have to pay for their hotels, any additional tickets,
and I believe the airfare as well. This is what
it sounded like from boomerasiasin.
Speaker 8 (32:51):
Thank you and Houdai, who Day, who Day?
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Who they think they are?
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Maybe you paid your own hotel room.
Speaker 8 (32:56):
That's what I would say. You think I'm an elitist
if I say no to that.
Speaker 10 (33:01):
No, I mean your name is on the stadium.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
You know how many people are in the Ring of Honor?
Speaker 9 (33:07):
Now?
Speaker 10 (33:07):
Eight?
Speaker 9 (33:07):
Yeah? Eight?
Speaker 3 (33:11):
So they have sent a generic email to Boomer and
others Drew inviting them back for the festivities and that
you can book rooms at a hotel at a discounted rate.
You pay for your own airfare, but you do get
two complimentary tickets and you have the ability to purchase more.
What does this look like from a Bengals organization standpoint?
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Not good.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Boomera assizes is one of the best that has ever
played for the Cincinnati Bengals. Yeah, your name's in the stadium,
as they just.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Said, as the co host said, his name is literally
on the stadium. That's a tough one.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (33:46):
What are what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Like I I do an outing every year for the
Brighter Days Foundation. Jason Day puts it together the golfer
up in Columbus and unfortunately every year it falls on
the first month day of the football season. Which I
hate to miss. But when they invite their quote unquote
celebrities in, they offer airfare, they offer a car service,
(34:10):
and they put you up for free in hotels. That's
I think is pretty standard when it comes to things
like this. Surely you can take care of your legends
and their hairfair hairfare in their hotels. What am I
missing there?
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Yeah, I just it's hard to kind of fathom.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
It's just a great look.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Yeah, how you would treat such a legend of your
franchise that way.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
And it feels like it was just kind of the
email that was sent out to everyone, like there's nothing
personal about like, hey, Boomer, yeah right, we appreciate everything
you've ever done for us, and we'd like to invite
you this week, And it just kind of felt like, hey,
let's just send us mass email out.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Yeah, that's tough, especially when you send it to the
guy that has a nationally syndicated radio show in New
York City.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Who's going to use it?
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Who will use it?
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Yep, you could tell the fact that he brought it up,
he was probably steaming a little bit from.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
It, a little bit a little bit, and you know,
he tried to play like them I elitist thing for
not for not like not going basically going like yeah,
I'm I'm not doing that.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Very very interesting stuff from the Bengals. But there are
other topics to talk about with this Bengals team. There's
a preseason game number three. We'll talk to Charlie Goldsmith
at one o'clock about that. But latest on Dalton Reisner,
an interesting question at wide receiver and more. We'll do
that to finish up our number one when we come back.
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, Thanks to Skyline Chili.
(35:39):
Welcome back. We're rolling on a Friday since e three
to sixty thanks to Skyline Chili. Thank you for listening
on the whole of the Bengals. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Let's take one more phone call here as
we near the end of our number one. John is
calling from Boston. What's up, John?
Speaker 14 (35:59):
Good upon fellas, how are you? We're hanging in there.
Didn't want to call today. I give you guys a
break from the guy, crazy guy from the East Coast.
But when you brought up the Boomer story, I couldn't
help with call in. I work in radio with Boston,
and I'm a Bengels fan because I'm a huge Joe
Burrow fan, so I followed the team. Love listening to
you guys, love listening to bow. But an NFL insider
(36:20):
told me that the Bengals have an MRI facility or
MRI machines at their facility and then they farm them
out the hospitals and doctors. So you know, maybe you're
going to get an MRI and you can be alongside
Ted Karrish at Higgins. I mean, the stories are just
like analystm what this organization does. Hearing about players bringing
their own gatorade when they put in new TVs. They
(36:44):
sold the TVs on eBay, just constant like stupidity. The
thing with Pool. Look, Boomer's awesome, He's the best, and
like you said, he hosts a national show with new book.
How a baud a look is that when he's talking
about that that how much would it cost to book
a couple of hotelms and a couple of tickets to
bring get a legend?
Speaker 3 (37:01):
I even understand, absolutely not. I understand as well, Like
let's say, let's say the people that are already in
the Ring of Honor, you go above and beyond to
take care of You bring in their their flights, if
they want to fly with someone, you bring them in,
You put them up in a hotel. And then if
you want to send out a generic email of former
players of the organization, Hey, if you want to be
a part of your teammates, big night, we've blocked off
(37:21):
some rooms. We'll try to help. That's one thing. But
to just make it a generic email to one of
the best players that's ever played in this organization, what
did you think was gonna happen when Boomer got that?
Speaker 14 (37:34):
Yeah, And it kind of goes back to my point
that I kind of hammered earlier in the week with
you guys. Scott Peters and Jerry Montgomery are the offensive
and defensive line coaches of the Cincinnati Bengals this year.
They were with the Patriots last year, so the Patriots
are paying those two coaches, and the Patriots coaching staff
in twenty twenty four maybe the worst coaching staff I've
ever seen in the NFL, because most of those guys
(37:55):
don't even have jobs, except the Bengals hired two cast offs.
Speaker 8 (37:58):
Who were very good last year.
Speaker 14 (38:00):
So there's another thing where you're saving on assistant coaches again,
they stumbled into the best quarterback in football, and if
he overcomes all this and then with the Super Bowl
he Lebron James and Cleveland back in twenty sixteen, because
it'd be that difficult.
Speaker 9 (38:15):
It is.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
It's baffling to me and for an organization as well
that has tried to eliminate that cheap conversation. They've paid
their players a lot of money, they've changed the stadium,
they've made upgrades. It's little things like this though, that
just draw people back and say, well, that's the Bengals.
As much as they've done to get out from under that,
that's what people are going to resort back to with this.
Speaker 14 (38:37):
Could I just add one more thing as far as
ownership and then founded the team work. I think Paul
Brown is the greatest coach in the history of the NFL,
maybe the greatest coach in the history of all of sports.
But his m for years was to build a culture
where it was almost like an old smelly gym where
the fighters were angry and that's how they worked out
to get in shape for the fighters. Maybe they're carrying
(38:59):
that on. Let's not give them too many great facilities
and they'll all be angry against us and that will
unify them. Belichickies to do that with New England. It's
not like a culture where you make the players feel
overly comfortable. Maybe they're just carrying that position, but it's
twenty twenty five guys, and Roger different thankfully.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Yeah, that is a great point, John, Thanks for listening, man,
thanks for the call of a great weekend. He was
well outside of that happening right now, Drew. Earlier in
the week, Dalton Risner or Riisner, came to visit Cincinnati
and he was grated out as one of the top
twenty pass blocking guards in football last year. This team
is desperate for pass blocking Offensive linemen. Joe Goodbarry joined
(39:40):
the show earlier in the week and he said that
he had Riisner ranked as his number one target in
the offseason. He's still there and you could question why
is he still there? But it's been awfully quiet. After
he visited the Bengals. He came, he saw, he left,
and now we're hearing that the Seahawks are hosting Dalton
(40:00):
Reisner for a visit. According to Jerry mc Jeremy Fowler
on Twitter, he might also make a visit with the
Pittsburgh Steelers, Drew, would you have let Riisner leave? I
understand that he might have said, Hey, I want to
go take a couple other visits. What I want to
know is the Bengals push back on that at all
and say, hey, what can we do to make you
not want to take those visits? What can we make
(40:21):
you do? What kind of offer would we have to
overpay a little bit to get you to sign on
this dotted line right now?
Speaker 8 (40:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I found that in previous situations like this, where a
team hosts a free agent this close to the season,
A lot of times when that free agent gets out
of town without a deal done, they're probably not playing
for your team.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Yes, now, Noah Fan did get out of town, he'd
circled back, but that was earlier in training camp. Or
I would have made every effort because the thought to
me is, if it's not Reisner, who in the world
is it? Right? Who else is out there other than
scouring the cutdown yep moves that are made on Tuesday,
(41:00):
There isn't another option and right now to send this
old line out there in Week one against Cleveland, I
don't see how you can do it.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Yeah, and you just feel like a guy like that,
as good as he is, especially in the past blocking department,
you would want to make every you know, every effort,
every effort, right, that's the word. I'm looking for, every
effort to make sure that he signs on that dotted
line before you leave.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
What can we do to make you not leave?
Speaker 9 (41:28):
Right?
Speaker 2 (41:28):
And you know he's gonna go on these other visits. Yeah,
the Seahawks may ask him like, hey, you know, what
are the Bengals offering.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
Do you feel comfortable if he goes to Pittsburgh and
you're getting a biddy more with the Steelers?
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Absolutely, you shouldn't, right like that would that that would
worry me.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Steelers need offensive line help too. Don't let him get there, yep.
Don't let him take another visit. Don't let him hear
another offer. We heard earlier in the week that they're
that that they have been talking with Reisner's agent for
two weeks. What else do you need to iron out?
You've been talking for two weeks. He came and visited,
and he still left without a deal. That's fascinating to
(42:03):
me and worries him at the same time.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Yeah, And you know, as you said, he's got other
visits lined up. And if I'm someone like the Seahawks
or the Steelers, like I just said, when when you
get into that meeting room with them, you go, hey,
you know what's what the Bengals offer you?
Speaker 3 (42:19):
If you're Pittsburgh the last day, if you got him
in your facility and he's already visited in Cincinnati, the
last thing you want to let him do is going
sim with Cincinnati. Right, So they're gonna make every effort
to sign him. I just you you couldn't, in my opinion,
let him leave the facility. Yep.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
And yeah, I think the longer and longer this gets
drawn out, Yeah, the less and less chance and the.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
Less time you got him to get ready for Week one.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Right, I mean, what we're ten days away or so.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
Do you think Miles Garrett will play defensive end or
do you think he'll line up over Lucas Patrick if
he has the option.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
I think they're gonna I think the Browns Miles Garrett wherever,
he's going to be the most successful alongside uh, you know,
Mason Graham as well. If there's one thing that has
stood out of out of the Browns training camp this season,
when they've gone to these joint practices. It's how dominant
the Browns defensive line has been.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
So if you're trotting out of that offensive line in
Week one, you know, I don't I don't think the
Browns are gonna be very good this year. But they've
got one strength and that's the that's their front four.
And if they can take advantage and make you know,
life miserable for Joe back there and grab a couple stops,
maybe you know, kind of kill the clock a little bit,
established the run game that you know, that's the path
(43:28):
to victory for the Browns. Brutal and Yeah, so it'll
be interesting to see. I would be surprised if if
he ends up signing with the Bengals after house this
is played out.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Yeah, something we can ask our next guest at the
top of the hour as well. Charlie Goldsmith will join
us when we come back. We'll get the latest on
the Reds and the Bengals. To kick off the second
hour of the Friday addition of since he three to sixty,
you're listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.

you're listening to be the iHeartRadio app, go ahead and
get your talk back in. We'll get to those talkbacks
right after we talk to Charlie Goldsmith, who's joining us
right now.
Speaker 10 (44:35):
What's up, Charlie, Tony.
Speaker 3 (44:38):
How you doing, Charlie, I'm great. How are you doing today?
Speaker 9 (44:42):
I'm good. I landed in Arizona. It's one hundred degrees
and it'll be one fifteen by the end of the day,
so it's a funnel change of pace.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
Nice little change of pay. Since you're there, let's start
there and then we'll get to the Bengals. The West
Coast road trip is always something that I think Reds
fans cautiously, cautiously await, and they're in the thick of
it right now they take two out of three from
the Angels. What's the overall feel around this team as
they entered today, just a half game back in the
wild Card.
Speaker 9 (45:08):
It really stands out how quickly they were able to
kind of change the tone, change the vibe, change the
maybe not quite the narrative, but in some ways change
the narrative coming off that Brewer series, which felt so
emotional in a negative way, bringing back through some of
the negative storylines we've been talking about all season. But
there's also a lot to like, and you saw that
on Sunday. I think the way that game dramatically and
(45:31):
emotionally ended for them was meaningful. They played some really
good baseball for two games in Los Angeles, and you
just like where this team's at right now. They're not perfect,
they've got flogged, they've got even more questions that are
kind of unsettled for what a contender would usually be
like in late August. But this is what you do
it for for stretches like this.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
What do you make of where the bullpen is at
right now? Obviously it feels like they've been taxed a
little bit. They might be a little bit tired. You're
in the thick of a playoff hunt. One what do
you feel about the old direction of the bullpen? And
two how close are we to getting some guys back
healthy that may be able to move some other players
to help the bullpen.
Speaker 9 (46:08):
It's truly day to day and it's a lot to
keep track of, and it's one of the most interesting
storylines on the team right now. You start with the
fact that, I mean Santy and Pagan Barlow especially have
just been asked to do so much at the start
of the season. They thought they'd be able to give
these guys more help that hasn't quite developed yet internally. Ideally,
they get Lodolo back and Martinez can go to the bullpen.
(46:32):
Ideally they get burned back pretty quickly and he can
go to the bullpen. There's also this pocket of prospects,
you know, May Richardson, Phillips, Lesursa, Maxwell. Maxwell got called
up today. I want to get on him and hit
on him in a second. But they hope that a
couple of those guys would be real factors by September.
We're not there yet with the other four. Maxwell today,
(46:53):
he's got to throw a strikes. I mean, does he
have a little Ricky Karter and him maybe, but truly
elite stuff. I think, like my line on Dak Maxwell,
is it that meme where it's like he walks onto
the mound and Dud's go heck yeah, Like he's that
type of guy, He's that type of presence. I'm a
big Dak Maxwell believer and I think he's gonna be
a fan favorite. And I'm he got called up this morning.
(47:15):
I'm very much looking forward to seeing if he can
build on some momentum he had in August. He's a
real prospect. You could make a difference.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
What do you make about the nickname Big Sugar? Where
does that rank in nicknames? For you?
Speaker 9 (47:27):
It's perfect and it was so authentic too. It was
some Uh, it was some like I mean, all announcers
are great, but some anonymous, low level like ACC network
announcer who is trying to make a name for himself.
I believe it's how the story goes, and he just
let it out, Big Sugar, and it fits him personally
because he's this energetic ball of energy. Like I've said
(47:48):
the line before, like a Marius mimes on the mound.
Like this guy's fun. And again, he's gotta throw strike
and that's gonna be a huge thing. But I've been
a fan of Dak Maxwell for a long time.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
South Stewart is a guy that gets a lot of
airtime here and talking about could he help this team?
Do you think it's close? And do you think he's
a player that can help this team in a playoff race?
Speaker 9 (48:10):
I mean, I just look at track record. And in
twenty twenty three, they called up Nolovie Marte I believe
after thirty nine games in Triple A and he pretty
much looked ready and they called him up even though
there wasn't a set spot for him to play, they
made it work and he made a real impact in
twenty three. You know, you don't want a guy to
just basically skip over Triple A. But south Stewart I
believe he's like a week away from reaching that you know,
(48:32):
imaginary thirty nine games threshold and it felt like there's
any sort of real science behind that. But he's at
the point where you start to see her right. Guys
who performs that well for that long and Triple A
they're ready. Now. The bigger question is what do you
play them right? And he has been playing more second base,
which is on my radar and I plan to ask
more about And anyone who's heard me talking knows I'm
(48:52):
a huge south Stewart guy. I'd like to know more
about what he is defensively at second base. One of
my red hot takes is I would keep playing Matt
McClain and commit to the defense and clean baseball vision
you have with a guy who thinks an elite defensive
second baseman and live with the offense that you're getting.
Maybe Sally could spell him on a day or two
(49:13):
here and there, But the guy who really took south
Stewart's spot is mcgelly and too hard at least in
the short term. And is this a Christian Acarnassio strand
will Benson hotstretch from miguelly andw Harr or is he
a guy who's going to be a three twenty hitter
or whatever he is the rest of the way will see.
The aggression makes me think they might be some more
highs and lows. So if Andrew Hard drops back off
(49:34):
and needs to slide into a bench roll, well, then
there's an opportunity for sal Sal's adding first base onto
his plate. That could be an opportunity to get him
involved more and then especially too, I mean, this team's
going to get hurt more between now and the end
of the season. One more thing too, we keep talking
about South Stewart. I think Hector Rodriguez belongs in this
conversation as well.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Yeah, does it feel as we're now talking about the
thick of a playoff race or scoreboard watching every night?
Drew brought this up earlier around the Reds team. Does
it feel like they're loose? Does it feel like they
they're a team that understands that there is a lot
of pressure on the Mets for the money they've spent
and how the season unfolded. Does it feel like a
team that's loose as they as they enter into this playoff.
Speaker 9 (50:16):
Hunt, well against the Brewers just watching them, it certainly didn't,
And I think that's a big part of the storyline
of the rest of the season too. Carrie Francona stearing
this ship for a team that has to have a
very clear understanding of the way in the style of
baseball that it needs to be playing. So that's kind
of going to be the next thing I'm going to
(50:36):
look for kind of when they face that stretch of
really good teams believe the Blue Jays, Mets, and Padres
in September, that'll be important this week. They've got to
take care of business. This is also why they made
such a point to prioritize adding winning players. You know, Hayes, Lush,
Trevino Martinez, Began, a couple others. I'm forgetting, but all
those guys with playoff experience, you get them for stretches
(50:58):
like this because there are more guys who have done
it before than there were for the August and September
of twenty twenty three Reds, which was basically all just
a bunch of guys who would score. Brand new to this.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
Charlie Goldsmith is with us. Let's switch gears. Let's talk Bengals.
Charlie preseason game number three tomorrow. None of the starters
are going to be playing in this. But what are
some of the storylines or who are some of the
players that you're most looking forward to keeping up with
tomorrow as it relates to this roster, and maybe who
can help the team.
Speaker 9 (51:31):
I've got a few and I'm not expecting any of
the It's funny and I've got caught with this before,
like get caught by saying, like, all right, a big
storyline is going to be Derek Carter, But then Derek
Carter doesn't play in the preseason finale or the equivalent
style of players. So I'm going to kind of aim
low with these things. I'm watching for Timitch. Timsley plays
special teams because that's his path to a spot on
(51:51):
the active game day roster. I think he's pretty set
and showing what he can do as a receiver, but
is he actually going to be able to carve out
a role? Probably would come down to teams. Can any
of these backup offensive linemen show you anything, especially you
know Matt Lee who hasn't played yet. Seth McLaughlin only
got mop up duty against Washington. I'm the low man
(52:12):
on on Devin Conchran. I don't think he's the swing
tackle answer the Jalen Rivers even player. They too nervous
about their line depth that they don't even feel like
they can put him out there because he is technically
their starter this week with Ford and Patrick day to day,
I mean Cocher and I'm trying to fit the other guy.
I can't even I think it was Caleb at the
(52:33):
end where their second team tackles on Thursday and training
camp like Kirkland's in there like they need someone to
show that they can do anything. Just frankly, fifth offensive
tackle is an interesting spot to me. They seem to
really like Howard Cross but continuing to show he can
make an impact against the runs important as he battles
with gods like Eric Gregory and Tavin Bryan. I'm gonna
(52:55):
have a fot light on Dajon Anthony if he plays.
I think he's one of the more interesting Bengals because
I think entering camp they had some hope for him
being their safety three. He hasn't run with that. It
is he a guy that want to see more to
see if they need to go out and get safety
three on the label wire. That's an interesting storyline to me.
And Hey, and then this long snapping battle is going
(53:15):
down to the wire.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
What do you make of the comments from Al Golden
yesterday of a if you want to point any arrows
point him at me. You know, we've made the decision
not to not to show much. We run a lot
of base. We keep it pretty vanilla, which I understand
if that's the case. But in keeping it vanilla, I
thought we would see guys play faster, play more confidently.
It seems like they're still a little hesitant. Seems like
their responsibilities aren't very clear. What do you make of
(53:39):
the comments from Al Golden about the first two preseason
games in which the defense wasn't good enough.
Speaker 9 (53:45):
I'm not making a lot out of the preseason games,
but I do think the conversation is just what it is, like,
this isn't going to just happen fixing this defense. I
think the best case scenario for the Bengals is that
Joe Burn the offense kind of pick up the team
for a while and carry the flag and then hopefully
you want the plan to be by October, November, ideally December.
(54:06):
But can the defense whin you a game? Two games?
Can your defense keep you in a couple more games?
Can your defense not take you out of a game
against the Bills of the Ravens when you get to
that point of the schedule, Like, this isn't going to
just show up and be even in my opinion and
average defense. And to me, one of the storylines of campus,
how many guys haven't had that breakout training camp. This
(54:26):
is a guy get ready to see what he can do.
That's that's just has happened. So for that reason, it's
got to have time, in my opinion, to bake a
seam of the preseason game has been rookie moments from Stewart,
from from from Demetrius Knight, who's flying back and fall
into the ground. Like, I think you're gonna see more
of that too. They're going to try to simplify to
(54:49):
let these guys play fast, but I'm gonna stress patients.
Is the patient's gonna be end up with? Think like
a division title race? You know, let's see. But expectations
are this defense, at least in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (55:02):
Do you think it's as simple as Demitrice Knight as
the starting linebacker, or as Oran Burks or anyone else
making a case to be the guy in Week one?
Speaker 9 (55:10):
I do like the one thing, all right, like get
ready for a football cliche, Like the words I've heard
the most from Alt Goulden are ball disruption. There are
only like three guys on this defense that can actually
disrupt the ball. All right, all right, I guess Trey
throw Trey Hendrickson in there. Yes, Tamar Stewart and his
batted passes. Ideally there's hope that Logan Wilson, now that
(55:30):
he's healthier and has has to worry less about what's
going on around him, plays faster and gets some of
that turnover production again, and then you hope that Cam
Taylor Brick can find that again. I do believe Demetrius
Knight is one of the better quote unquote ball disruptors
on the team. He's had some of the most real
splash plays on the ball, you know, drop him back,
(55:50):
jumping in front of Jamar and tipping a pick to
Dax Hill. He's had plays like that. He's not Jermaine Pratt,
and I think that was one of the things I've
learned about him this camp. He's like, you want to
develop it into it downhill thumper, but really what he
is right now is he's a guy who's going to
try to show some range and some ball instincts. Has
worked to grow, has room to grow physicality at the
(56:12):
line of scrimmage clearly as we've seen, But Warren Burks
gives you none of that Falld disruption ability. We'll see
him in base packages. He might even end up getting
some starts when teams start the game with heavy personnel,
but Night fits with this defense is trying to be
and they don't have a lot of other guys who
can do what Da've seen Knight do in training camp.
(56:32):
He has had some of the best plays in practice
of the summer.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
I would be remissed if we didn't have a chance
to catch up and with everything that we found out
over the weekend and what we've heard as it relates
to Trey Hendrickson, it wouldn't be a segment if I
didn't at least ask you, do you have any reason
to believe that your thoughts on Trey Hendrickson have changed?
Do you still think he's their Week one in Cleveland?
Do you think there's a chance there's another team that
steps up? As we sit here on August twenty second,
(56:59):
what do you feel with Trey?
Speaker 9 (57:01):
I don't see a trade. The one thing like I
really know about how this whole situation is unfolded is
that I mean, you've heard me say some not critical things,
because I still saw Trede as a pro bowler last year,
But you've heard me say some critical things about you know,
what I thought Trey Hendrickson was in wasn't last season,
And there were some real flaws in his season, and
I know the entire league saw that too, and so
the trade market in terms of valuing him at an
(57:24):
elite level just never took off in that way. Now,
should the Bengals that have been asking for an elite
asking pricing return, Well, that's a long conversation for another
day about how the Bengals view and value around players
and their ability to be proactive or reactive in these
situations because they're constantly reactive. But I don't think anything's changed.
I think Trey is also in a situation where he's
(57:46):
best suited to get something done because of the risk
of what this season could be compared to last season
for him. I still feel optimistic overall, especially seeing how
engaged he's been, Like I've really been pressed genuinely and
a lot of times that's just talk, but I've genuinely
been impressed with the role he's playing on the sideline.
He's acting like a guy who's going to be a Bengal.
(58:08):
I think he's going to be a Bengal. I would
still lean towards something getting done, and I'm not expecting
a trade.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
Charlie. I gotta ask Dalton Reisner came in this week,
he visited with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was one of
the top twenty past protecting guards according to Pro Football Focus.
In football last year, he left without a deal in place.
It's reported he's going to visit the Seahawks potentially the
Steelers as well. When it gets this close to the
start of the season, do you put yourself a little
bit behind if someone visits you first and then goes
(58:35):
to a different team. If you're the Pittsburgh Steelers and
you're sitting down with Riser and you say, what did
the Bengals offer? We don't want you to be a Bengal.
We want you to be a Steeler. Do you lose
out a little bit if you're the Bengals by letting
him leave town?
Speaker 9 (58:47):
You know Dalton Riiser, Let's talk about Dalton Reisner. They
picked Lucas Patrick over Dalton Reisner. Dalton Reisner was the
guy who escapegoaded for Sam Donald Ghosts in the playoffs
last year. Remember how the Viking season season ended and
Kevin O'Connell was basically like it was the guard's fault.
(59:07):
And then they used the first round pick and paid
eighty seven million dollars for a guard risers always available
at this type of year, at this time of year,
despite the PFF grades every and what I've seen on
tape two shows that Riisner is not a guy who
should be competing for a starting job in the NFL now,
the competition for the backup spots in the NFL. Now,
(59:27):
He's certainly is better than Andrews Suber. That is where
this becomes a conversation against the Bengals, especially with Cordell
Bolton now out for the year, he would still upgrade
the roster, which is why I would very much be
in favor of going out and getting rising as low
as I am on what he is as a player,
you know, at least he's showed them he can stick
(59:47):
on a roster, unlike unlike Matt Leett guard or whatever
the next option would be for the Bengals. So for
those reasons, I think there's very important to kind of
be more aggressimate ke the conversations going. But Roger is
not going to come in here and be you know,
Riley Reef saving the line at the end of the day.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
I would be remiss not to ask Charlie. I know,
as you get ready for the final preseason game. Most
of the roster spots are there, but we saw earlier
today Brian Robinson Junior was moved to the San Francisco
forty nine ers. He's a starting running back. Last year
they gave up a six round pick. Are there still
moves out there in your opinion that this Bengals team
could make that could upgrade where they are defensively?
Speaker 9 (01:00:29):
You know, my dream job is Tony. My dream job
is the guy to be the guy who like the
seventh guy in the Bengals front office who comes up
with all the trade proposals that they'll never do. But
I'd be like, hey, Duke, I got an offer for
Mitch Tinsley.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
I like this. I like this.
Speaker 9 (01:00:43):
The Bengals.
Speaker 8 (01:00:44):
You go back to the.
Speaker 9 (01:00:44):
Khalil Herbert trade. They needed a running back of the
deadline last year. They were desperate. They got it. But
you know what we heard a lot in March and April, man,
we wish we had that extra pick. I think the
Bengals learned some not learned something, but I think they
reflected from last year for right, and they're putting a
lot of value on keeping those picks so at a
maximum micro tea them like swapping a sixth for a seventh. Obviously,
(01:01:07):
offensive line depth is something that they should be more
aggressive in pursuing, and the guys available via trade would
be better than the guys available be a free agency
obviously fit defensive tackle, obviously safety. You can look all
over this rosser, another corner, another fifth linebacker, stuff like that.
Of course they should be more aggressive with this trade stuff.
But I keep going back to the reluctance to trade
(01:01:29):
picks based on how the draft shaped out for him
last season.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
If you mentioned Mitchell Tinsley earlier, he had a great
game against Washington. If he comes out and dominates Indy
and des Ritter finds him for a touchdown or two,
is there any avenue out there where you could see
his cutdown day looms that a team needs a playmaking
wide receiver, and I know Mitchell Tinsley has been good here.
He still probably slots in at the number six wide receiver.
(01:01:55):
Is there anything that could happen that you think a
team would give up any thing in return for a
guy like Mitchell Tinsley.
Speaker 9 (01:02:03):
I mean, all you're asking for is you know b
J Hills, who at the time wasn't anything I want
to stress this too. We're talking a lot about cutdown
day and roster projections and who the final guys are
going to be. Forty eight through fifty five, let's say,
is like the worst I've seen it during my sixty
years covering the Bengals. Last year different tangent, like fifty
(01:02:24):
four through ninety was the worst I've ever seen it,
say to bring in a whole new practice squad in September.
This year is kind of those last bubble guys. What
I think the real thing this year is going to be.
It's not so It's gonna be one of those years
where like, all right, here's the initial fifty three man roster.
I think Tinsley has a good shot to see it
all the way through, but SA one of those alignment
on either side or safety, maybe they'll make it through.
(01:02:45):
But then the Bengals are going to be looking at
the waiver wire and there will be better options on
the waiver wire than the Bengals have in the house now.
So this year, especially a casting looking at I you know,
great job that this guy would be in the final
guy to make the fifty three because forty eight fifty
five is such a weak zone on their roster. I
feel like I think there's gonna be some shuffling after
(01:03:06):
Tuesday with the Bengals being pretty aggressive. Now Tinsley, how
much value does he have? I mean, there are some
desperate receiver teams around the league right now. Just the
thing is, there are more teams desperate for trench help
like the Bengals are so sure. Maybe there's a maybe
the forty nine ers have an extra guy or something
like that. I don't know. I haven't gone through those
depth charts. But when you look at what you do
have to trade in a Billy Price type situation, it'd
(01:03:29):
be Kinsley, it'd be Jalen Davis. I mean, the aligneman
on either side aren't doing much for you. Other than that,
I don't see a lot to trade that would get
much in return.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Charlie, By the time we're talking next week, we are
in all likelihood right talking about UC just one on
the road and they made a statement against Nebraska, and
now look at this big twelve slate coming up. But
what do you make of next Thursday's game? Because you
know what, I'm glad you asked. It's hard. I like
a lot of the pieces of UC I really do.
(01:04:00):
But I think the conversation changes so much if they
find a way to beat Nebraska, because it doesn't feel
like there's a lot of build up around the season
right now.
Speaker 9 (01:04:08):
I'm glad you asked this. I've been thinking a lot
about EAC football and I know they're not favored to
beat in the Braska, They're not favored to be a
contender in Big twelve. This might not even be the
year for that. But it's the nil era, it's the
transfer portal era. And what do we always talk about
as all these new guys, You never get to see
guys grow and developed. And the Bearcats this year have
have Royer have I mean, excuse me, they got the
(01:04:33):
quarterback towards By, they got Royer, they got Corleone, they
got a gold Day coming back. Like what the Bearcats
have done actually to keep a team together and let
them grow over the course of a one year to
another stage. And then they've also kind of used some
of the added Big twelve muscles they have with Cold
well with mcdude. Like you see real pieces at every
level of this team. The running game is obviously going
(01:04:54):
to be a strength with Scott sadderfield like this is
a team that's kind of grown up together and has
returned and that's different and that's fun, and that's I
think what we all want to see in this nil
landscape anyway, you know, the opportunity to just say, right,
you know, got a returning quarterback. How the stories be developed,
is Ry have another leap he can take man Corley
don't had a normal offseason this year, Golde, what can
(01:05:16):
he just step up as a leader? They got a
new left tackle, Cotton, Like, I don't think this is
going to be a ten win team, but it's a
team with real players. It's a team with continuity in
a lot of spots. It's a team of continuity from
a coaching perspective, and at the end of the day,
when we all complain about the modern coach a modern
college football landscape, this is what we want to see anyway.
And then if you can get a win against Nebraska
that validates some beliefs, that's a that's a fun place
(01:05:38):
to be. Or maybe it's not Nebraska, maybe it's one
of the big full teams on the schedule down the road,
but it's a fun place to be. And I'm more
excited for this season because of that continuity and returning cores.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
So you'll be in Kansas City Thursday.
Speaker 9 (01:05:52):
I'll be watching. I couldn't couldn't make that Red Red
playoff run, but it's something twenty year olds Charlie would
have done.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
So that's Charlie Goldsmith. Charlie, I can't thank you enough
for joining us. Hopefully we're talking about a win on
Friday of next week. Is what's the easiest way. We're
in the thick of a playoff hunt. The Bengals season
is right around the corner. I know you got so
much stuff going on. What's the easiest way for listeners
to keep up with all of your content.
Speaker 9 (01:06:17):
We've got Charlie Sharkboard on Subjack, We've got it on
Fox nineteen. We have the Power Stacks podcast, myself and Brian.
You just saw the latest episodes out. A lot else
going on too, but I'm excited. I really do love
this time of year and some fun stories, especially on
both sides of the Street and Doutown Bank.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
I love it. Charlie, Thank you so much. Enjoy your
time in Arizona and let's bring three back.
Speaker 9 (01:06:40):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
Thank thank you, Charlie. That is Charlie Goldsmith awesome stuff
as always, Reds Bengals, Bearcats. I don't know what else
you need from Charlie, but he just delivered all of it.
Now we'll go to your talkbacks, which are next on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 8 (01:06:56):
Yeah, your chance had a time.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
I'm on ESPN fifteen Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 18 (01:07:15):
Yeah, come on, come on, all.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Right, DN talkback Cincy three sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Of course, thanks to our friends at Cincy Shirts.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
So before we get going here, you guys brought up
Zach Maxwell being called up to the Reds Big Sugar.
We'll call this a cowboy talk back here. This is
what it's gonna sound like when Big Sugar enters the
game with Cowboy on the call.
Speaker 6 (01:07:50):
Big Sugar coming into the ball game. This is Zach Maxwell.
Throw that thing, throw that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Thing, Throw that Big Sugar. Big Sugars in town. So
we have that to look forward to for as long
as he is on the Red Legs.
Speaker 10 (01:08:06):
All right, let's get it roll Audie Town.
Speaker 8 (01:08:08):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (01:08:09):
Jews come from the Canander price yelady know Week one
high school football?
Speaker 5 (01:08:15):
Where's Williamsburg at Audie they're.
Speaker 9 (01:08:18):
Gonna find out tonight.
Speaker 19 (01:08:19):
As Veterans Memorial Stadium. We're gonna call that thing Wildcats.
Speaker 4 (01:08:24):
Running loose Stadium or Williamsburg thirty five, Redding twenty one.
Speaker 9 (01:08:31):
The wildcat runs the yard, y'all go and find out.
Speaker 8 (01:08:33):
Let him know, ton see you as soon.
Speaker 9 (01:08:36):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
Cat 'ma tell you what I guess I'll take the over.
Sounds like I don't know, but I don't know. If Williamsburg.
I saw they got that nice turf at Williamsburg. It's
it's it's different when you come to the Vet you
got the natural grass. You gotta deal with some elements.
I like the Blue Devils Week one.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
High school football is such a such a phenomenal week,
like the Blue Devils.
Speaker 20 (01:09:01):
It's the Lord. It was great hearing the talkback Eddie
Zech the other day. You know, I know he only
comes on about once a month, but when he does
come on, I think he should get the Sinsy shirt
gift card. He's a dead ringer and he is so funny.
I laugh every time he's comes on. Great job, Eddie Z,
(01:09:22):
keep it coming, keep it coming.
Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
High praise from the Lord.
Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
That thank you.
Speaker 21 (01:09:27):
I want to talk about the Bengals secondary do the
corners and linebackers do they play so much off the
receivers in zone coverage they leave such gaping holes that
passes are being dropped in there. They leave so much
space and zone coverage because they don't want to show
(01:09:51):
up on ESPN highlights of being burnt because our safeties
are that bad.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
Uh No, not necessarily. Every zone, It's not just zone
coverage is the same. There's plenty of different zone coverages.
Cover two you're much more aggressive. You're playing the flats,
so you're gonna be uh more aggressive at the line
of scrimmage a Cover three, the corner's responsibility and Cover
three is he's got a deep third of the field
so he can't get beat deep. So you do give
a little bit more cushion in Cover three. If you
(01:10:18):
think of Cover four, quarters, that means the corner and
both safeties have a fourth of the field, so you
can't get beat deep. In Cover four and Cover two
you got two safeties over the top, so you can
be much more aggressive in the flats. But yes, Cover three,
Cover four, that corner is gonna play off more because
their sole responsibility you can't get beat deep. You gotta
help the hope the underneath coverage helps you out. From
(01:10:41):
an umbrella standpoint, I pretty much run exclusively cover three
in Madden A little football one on one there for you, Tony.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
Freaking Pike buddy didn't say the other one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:52):
Congratulations on induction in not sure if you can have
someone induct you, and maybe you've already talked about this,
sorry if you have, but I want to throw out
the idea of maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
Talking John Moxley into doing it.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
I think that would be perfect. What do you think,
brother man, that's a great, great question one. Thank you
for that.
Speaker 6 (01:11:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
I mean I don't even know if I have to
have someone. I haven't been told that or not yet,
but uh, yeah, Max would be a great idea.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
That's not bad.
Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
I'm good with that.
Speaker 8 (01:11:26):
Hi.
Speaker 22 (01:11:27):
I'd like to congratulate Mike on his phone call with
Dan Patrick the other day.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Great phone call really made me think epic stuff. Thanks Mike.
Legend of the game. He is, Mike. Mike is an
absolute legend. O.
Speaker 23 (01:11:41):
Every time I see ow go and looks like yeah
and slept for a month like me, a lot of stress.
I said, Nick's got to learn how to walk where
he can crawl. He made some really nice movies. He's
running a marathon. The Reds will make the playoffs. They're
like a seed planning it in some fertile soil. The
(01:12:01):
mats are I could see thron on a pile of rocks.
Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
That is beautiful stuff. That's like poetry from our loud
talk back.
Speaker 22 (01:12:11):
Yes, Tony Drew happy Friday. FC Cincinnati is back at
him again. Unbelievable what they do. Brenner is back. They
also signed Dominic Marktuk from Real Salt Lake.
Speaker 8 (01:12:22):
I believe a Polish player.
Speaker 22 (01:12:24):
Tony, if you don't mind asking Tommy, Tommy Tommy about
him later, because I don't know much about this player
and Red's you gotta make like Ronnie ron out in
Zona and represent Cincinnati this weekend. Yeah, two out of
three at the bare minimum, let's get Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
I can't wait. I look forward every week to talk
to Tom Galater, but to talk to him at at
hour three today at the top. With everything f C
Cincinnati has done while operating the need leader in the
standings position, I think is phenomenal. I can't wait to
talk to Tommy about that.
Speaker 15 (01:12:59):
I like this Drew guy better than that another guy
that's usually.
Speaker 9 (01:13:04):
On the show.
Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
How about that?
Speaker 4 (01:13:06):
About that Drew brings more excitement and optimism another guy
can just he can stay wherever he's at.
Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
Wow, what if I told you Drew is an eternal optimist.
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
I try to be.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
He's a Browns fan.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
My sports fans or my sports teams do their do
their damnedest to beat me down.
Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
But he's already not going to be an optimist when
they come into fifth Ar Arena this year for the.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
Flyers as well, We'll get there, buddy, we'll get there. No, no, no,
Gisel James. Now, yeah, when I figure out who's on
the Dayton roster, we're coming. We're coming after you.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Good point, good point.
Speaker 24 (01:13:39):
Not sure why anybody's really upset about this boomer thing.
I guess not upset, but shocked. I mean, vendors who
deal directly with the Bengals. The checks that they receive
are printed checks, and they're hands signed.
Speaker 8 (01:13:50):
By Katie Blackburn.
Speaker 24 (01:13:52):
I'm not sure that place even has an accounts pay
little department or signature authority on how much somebody can
sign a check for.
Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
Yeah, I don't even know if it's surprised, just I
guess shocked.
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
Yeah, Well, It's one of those things when when Boomer
came out and when we were talking earlier and somebody
brought that up that Boomer had said that. The first
thought through I was like, oh, I can't say that
shocks me.
Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
Right, like that that checks out.
Speaker 21 (01:14:18):
I heard your Boomer comments and what they have to pay.
Explain to me why Ring of Honor people have to
spend a dime? I bet you if any of any
of those people walk in over Jeff Rubies, I bet
you they don't have to spend a dime. And Jeff,
Jeff comps everything. Mike Brown, what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
Katie? Come on, man and woman.
Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
Yeah, you just you would think I think you said
it earlier. You would think they would make an exception
for the guys who are all the Ring of Honor. Yeah,
for just a teammate of somebody's you know, I get
the yeah. So like asking, he's like, you know, well.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
You're not gonna cop one hundred flights?
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
Can you do eight?
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
But exactly, and especially for someone like Boomer Asias and who,
as we established earlier, has a radio show in New
York City where he can air his grievances on So
I just seems like this. Yeah, it seems like an oversight.
Speaker 25 (01:15:19):
There him and boy, oh boy, what a year for you.
You've been inducted into the bear Cat Hall of Fame.
And now I'm so incredibly excited to tell you that
you've been inducted into the Muppet Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
How about that?
Speaker 25 (01:15:33):
You want of guests will fly out to Hollywood, California
for the party, and uh, well, you are going to
have to pay for your own airfare, hotel, rental, far.
Speaker 8 (01:15:41):
And any meals.
Speaker 25 (01:15:42):
But we're going to provide a free Muppet T shirt
for you and a five dollars off coupon.
Speaker 8 (01:15:46):
To the gift shop. I hope you can make it.
Speaker 13 (01:15:48):
Love you?
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
Yeah, wow? All right, honor Man.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
So we've got Mox introducing you for the UC. What
muppet are you going to have introduct induct you into
the Nuppets Hall of Fame? Big Bird, big Burn, just.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Off the hide alone. I think you go, Big Bird?
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
All right, there you go. I'd have an animal myself.
Speaker 19 (01:16:02):
Okay, what's good wrapping my city out here? Sonny hots On?
What Tony on the reds in town? It's going down.
It's storm out here. Last night it was like yo,
storm is coming. I said, that's my Reds in town.
A storm is coming. I'm coming to sweep the Diamondbacks.
I ain't got time to be all nice and neat.
Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
We need to eat greedy.
Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
Take this week and get to LA and sweep the Dodgers.
Speaker 19 (01:16:24):
Bengals embarrassing with Boomer Real top FC Cincinnati, Congratulations due,
I want an MLS Cup champion and support a shield.
Show the Reds and Bengals how you're supposed to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
I tell you what. I'll tell you this right now.
You come back winning your next six.
Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
Watch out, watch out, look out Cubs.
Speaker 26 (01:16:44):
Hey guys, Alex ready here. I just want to talk
about the Bengals defense. You know, it's one of the
things that we knew wasn't going to get a fixed
over night, even in one off season. It's not like
we can go out there and sign ten guys and
pay for that with the offense. So I think it's
one of those things that you know, as the years
goes on, we're going to keep getting better and better
with our draft picks. With the al goal near and uh,
(01:17:06):
we'll have a dominant offense and defense hopefully on the
next two three years.
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
Thanks Okay, I've dominant, he said.
Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
I've been asking, h you know my buddies who are
Bengals fans. This question is should get your your thoughts.
What do you think the most points the Bengals will
score this year in a loss? Man, I've gotten anywhere
from thirty one to forty two. I think forty forty.
(01:17:34):
They can get to forty and loose. I've I've kind
of settled at thirty eight. Yeah, I think that they're
They're going to find a way to lose a game
and score thirty eight points. That's crazy, hopefully not multiple.
Speaker 27 (01:17:44):
It's a cowboy, Jeff Brantley, I had been calling. He's
talking about chicken fingers and strips and nuggets and tenders,
and boy.
Speaker 9 (01:17:53):
That made me hunger.
Speaker 27 (01:17:54):
I had to go out to my local UDF and
get me seven bits of beach scream. You know where
the UDF is located, rack down on Broadway.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
There it is, thank you, cowboy.
Speaker 6 (01:18:10):
In the ball game. This is Zach Maxwell, Sugar.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
I really hope that Maxwell works out because we can
just use that SoundBite all the time all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
Agreed.
Speaker 6 (01:18:23):
I get the whole concept.
Speaker 28 (01:18:24):
You don't want to play your starters the last preseason
game because you don't want to risk injury to your starters.
But look at our defensive line cut our linebackers. Are
they really starters? How many other teams they start on
they didn't win the start these jobs. They're starters by default.
They need more work. They cannot go into week one
looking at how you look this preseason keep it to
line linebackers.
Speaker 14 (01:18:46):
You need to play the first half at least.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
So my thing is like, I get the logistics because
you don't want to have the quick turnaround from Monday
night football on the road and come back with a
short week and go Saturday. So I get that. I'm
okay with it. But I also if Zach woulda came
out and said, hey, we're playing some guys, I would
have been on board with that as well.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
I have found this NFL preseason fascinating, not with like
the football that's being played, but how coaches are handling
their teams throughout the preseason because there is no real
uniform way and a whole bunch of teams are different.
Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Like ma Homes plays, Allen hasn't taken a snap in Buffalo.
Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
The Browns did not play stars their first two but
they're playing some in the third It's interesting. I just
find that fascinating.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
I do wonder because of the way the the offseason
is is scheduled. Because even if you do let's say
you play your starters week one drew all of a sudden,
let's say you're done. Even if you play this weekend,
they don't open the season until September seventh, right, So
(01:19:51):
even if your starters play week two, you still get
what three weeks off in between? So what good does
it do to get any momentum if you've got to
wait three weeks. That's why I would if you came
out and said, hey, we got to see more from starters,
and you got two weeks still in between games, I
would be okay with playing starters tomorrow as well.
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Yep, I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
I hate that the extra week off in between the
end of the preseason. I just wish they would move
the starter camp back one week.
Speaker 29 (01:20:14):
Yep, Hey, guys, Sean from me skate hek Sean. I
always enjoy these segments with Charlie Goldsmith, but today I
could not disagree with him more with his assessment of
Dulton Reisner on this roster. He would be an instant
upgrade at guard in my opinion, over Lucas, Patrick's had
multiple seasons not allowing any sacks. He's been a consistent starter.
(01:20:38):
Patrick's always been that swing guy and with an offensive
passes as much as the Bengals, they need a guy.
Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Like yeah, that's fair. Look if it's if all things
are even, and you just go off the base of
if Reisner was a Bengal today, were they better today
than they were yesterday? I think the answer is yes,
So I'm all for having him.
Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
I agree with that Jeohn diould take up a golf
reporting there. He had a nice little phenomenal that's I'm
a greed die.
Speaker 8 (01:21:00):
I really like.
Speaker 4 (01:21:04):
The UF Health traffic sender. We're sixty of our insane patience.
I think this impression is funny. Thanks Lord for the
shout out out proselytizing for traffic. I'm Eddie deeling with traffic.
Speaker 3 (01:21:23):
Eddie, Thank you, my man, thank you Eddie.
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
All right, this is our last one unless one comes
in at great stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:21:29):
Drew is optimistic, and he is upbeat, and he's insightful,
and he's a welcome change of pace from time to time.
We were lucky to have him on the team. Thank you,
But how dare you besmirchs the good name of Austin Nomore.
He's the hardest working man in radio locally sometimes anyway,
how dare you, sir Booth?
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
This man very good?
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Well, that is I think that's a good one to
wrap it up on.
Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
That is a that's a good way to end it.
We have one segment when we come back, we will
do Austin. The schedules a little different on Monday. Cincinnati
Cancer Advisors, who is a someone that I am I
not only speak for, but I believe wholeheartedly in what
they do. I have an event for them on Monday.
(01:22:15):
So Austin will be in on Monday, which means we're
gonna give away two gift cards next week for our
CINCI shirts talkbacks, which means when we get back, we
got one segment. We'll update where things are at with
the Reds injury report, and we'll look ahead. What I'm
excited for today, Tom glad to kick off our number
three with everything happening right now in the world of
FC Cincinnati. That all happens next on the Home of
(01:22:37):
the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 10 (01:22:41):
The Superior Game meets.
Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
Stea continues on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (01:22:54):
Welcome back Cinty three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Thanks to Cincy Shirts, our Postman Law. Injury
report happened with Charlie Goldsmith. A lot of day to day,
week to week type of mode right now around the
Cincinnati Reds with Chase Burns and Nicolodolo. Who's gonna throw
later today? According to MLB dot com, So, uh, stay
(01:23:15):
up to speed over the weekend here with everything going

to Postman Law. If you're injured, call eight four or
four Postman Postman always delivers. Our guy Maso has time
for a quick call. We've got to get our letters
of the day. What's up Mayso?
Speaker 9 (01:23:31):
What's up?
Speaker 13 (01:23:31):
Tone?
Speaker 8 (01:23:32):
How are we doing? Bud living a dream man?
Speaker 3 (01:23:34):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (01:23:35):
Happy Friday? A.
Speaker 13 (01:23:36):
We're gonna see how dream does with these, uh, with
these conversations.
Speaker 8 (01:23:40):
All right, the letter of the day.
Speaker 13 (01:23:42):
Yeah, we're gonna throw a curveball at him.
Speaker 3 (01:23:44):
Let's see what he's got, Let's see what he's made of.
Speaker 30 (01:23:45):
There's there's only one though, But I will say it's
a big day for you davior Hawks out there because here, here, here,
it comes the better basketball player, Steve Logan or Steve
oh Man.
Speaker 8 (01:24:02):
Oh wow, yeah, the.
Speaker 30 (01:24:04):
Heartstrings with you to Yeah, yep, yep, here we go, buddy.
Speaker 9 (01:24:08):
Let's see where you're.
Speaker 3 (01:24:09):
Lying man, better basketball player yep, gosh, that's hard man.
I mean Steve Logan. Steve Logan is one of the
best all time players that have ever come through the
University of Cincinnati.
Speaker 8 (01:24:23):
Steve Wolf, though, you know Steve Wolf.
Speaker 3 (01:24:27):
I can't say a bad thing about Steve Wolf.
Speaker 9 (01:24:30):
That's right, That's what I was. I know, I'm putting
you in a little pickle here.
Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
So now you know now Wolf. He sent me a
couple audio clips of his time playing a Xavier where
he was hitting some mid range jumpers. But uh, Steve
Wolf also came through for uh for Roman's fundraiser in
a big way and comes through for the Pike family.
I can be I can be persuaded in more ways
than one. I can say, Steve Wolf, and if you
(01:24:57):
got a problem, address it with Steve.
Speaker 9 (01:25:00):
That's that's accurate. Hey, we got this obviously, this is recorded.
Speaker 8 (01:25:05):
We have got it.
Speaker 30 (01:25:06):
First time tone has taken Xavier over you.
Speaker 8 (01:25:08):
Se Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
It's also it's also remarkable. It's also remarkable. We've got
a good friend of ours that can still fit into
his Steve Logan jersey that he wore when Steve was
a bear Cat.
Speaker 9 (01:25:21):
That's true.
Speaker 30 (01:25:23):
Oh God love him anyway.
Speaker 13 (01:25:25):
That's all all right, have a good weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:25:29):
Thanks man.
Speaker 8 (01:25:29):
Hey, I'm out.
Speaker 9 (01:25:30):
I'm out. Next week I'm on vacation.
Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
We'll pick this up in two weeks, all right, knee
John Sunday for basketball.
Speaker 8 (01:25:38):
Out the.
Speaker 3 (01:25:40):
Maso out. Maso is out. A that is that's fantastic.
I'll tell you who's in. Drew Tom glad To the
voice of FC Cincinnati is going to join us to
talk all things Orange and Blue when we come back
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
This is Pennstation East Coast Subs since three six about
Cincinnati from Cincinnati's sponsored in part by Pennstation East Coast Subs.
Handcrafted hot grilled subs, fresh cut fries and lemonade. It's
all about good taste. Penn Station East Coast Subs order
online today. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
All right, welcome in our number three thanks to Penn Station,
Thanks for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Each Friday, in this time slot, we get to talk
to the voice of FC Cincinnati, uh leading leading the
calls for the Orange and Blue. His name is Tom
Gallerder and he joins us right now. Tommy, Tommy, Tommy,
(01:26:43):
what's going on on this slow, non busy Friday.
Speaker 31 (01:26:47):
It's not even you know, just kind of been off
social media and not not tracking much, just hanging out,
you know, preparing for another match against New York City,
still trying to avenge that playoff loss from last year,
and that'll probably be all the focus of all the
media attention, you know, for the next thirty hours leading
up to kickoff.
Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
Yeah, you know, we had the game against the Timbers
where f C Cincinnati was able to get ahead by
three goals. Now Portland did make it close three to two,
but they get the win. Let's discuss that win before
everything else, because not only did they get the win,
but those three points pushed them ahead of Philadelphia in
the standings as well. So as we talk today, coming
(01:27:27):
off a win and now sitting atop the standings in
the east is FC Cincinnati.
Speaker 8 (01:27:32):
Yeah, we can't ignore that, right.
Speaker 31 (01:27:34):
Obviously, a very busy week and we'll get to all
that excitement here at some point, but really important result
out west. I thought an easy trip, you know, obviously
one of the longer trips of the year. The next
one will be right up there, going to Los Angeles.
But you know, going to Portland to a place where
most of those guys haven't played in that building.
Speaker 8 (01:27:54):
You know, certainly it was my first trip there.
Speaker 31 (01:27:56):
And you know, great venue, great city, all of these things.
But yeah, he took care of business and a little
bit more heart stopping than anybody might have would have liked.
But he listened to one goal games.
Speaker 8 (01:28:07):
That's what.
Speaker 31 (01:28:07):
Since he does sixteen one goal games this year with
only seven left to go, but they're thirteen and three
in those one goal games.
Speaker 8 (01:28:14):
Didn't look like it was going to be a one
goal game.
Speaker 31 (01:28:16):
Look, it's a blowout, and man Kevin Denka back into
the starting lineup.
Speaker 8 (01:28:20):
He left his mark. Evander gets the goal.
Speaker 31 (01:28:24):
You know what a moment that was in front of
the whole supporter section there with his handcuffed to his
ear and listening to them. I mean, the reception was
really I think, I mean it was received for sure.
You know, Kevin and I had this perch high above.
It's similar if you think about the Knipperts Stadium elevation
(01:28:46):
from the field where we were when we did the
games there where where Dan and Jim r for Bearcats games.
Speaker 8 (01:28:52):
I mean, that's elevation. You're really high.
Speaker 31 (01:28:54):
But we were in this little perch and the team
came in and we were watching them come down the
ramp and the Vander turns his way into the pitch,
and it was bubblehead nights, so they opened the gates
especially early in most scenarios, and this is the case
at Qstadium, and I think pretty much I can't think
of a place where gates are open when the team arrives,
(01:29:16):
because normally the road team arrives about an hour and
a half before kickoff, and that's right about the time
gates are opening. So if there's anybody in the stands,
it's not much. But there was quite a few folks
in the supporter section by this point, and they had
very choice words, one of which I can't use, you know,
over the air for Vander and you know he definitely
(01:29:38):
heard it, and he let him know when he scored
that he heard it. And you know, in this case,
I guess actually spoke louder than words, right Unfortunately, after that,
and look, I was impressed by a Sportland team.
Speaker 8 (01:29:52):
I thought they were very good.
Speaker 31 (01:29:54):
You know, the Timbers fought their way back in the game,
and Kevin Kelsey talk about trying to prove a point.
You know, Kevin Kelsey, he remembers a guy that FC
Cincinnati decided not to pick up the purchase option on.
They just purchased Kevin dnke you know, another what six
or seven million dollars on top of the sixteen age
spend of Kevin would have probably Kevin Dentkay that is
would have been a bit much for Kevin Kelsey. So
they passed, and then Portland comes in and decides to
(01:30:17):
bring him on board. And man, Kevin Kelsey with a brace.
It certainly felt like he was trying to send a
little bit of a message as well.
Speaker 3 (01:30:25):
So it leads to based on everything else that happens
in the MLS, slave FC Cincinnati moving into first place
in the East, and we've talked about this race and
how tight things are, which then makes what we've seen
over the last twenty four hours or so even more
impressive for me because here we have a team and
an organization who was sitting atop the standings, playing good,
(01:30:46):
good soccer, competing for an MLS Cup, and yet they
go and send shock waves throughout the league because of
the aggressive nature in which they handled the last day
or so. Can you can you just highlight starting with
obviously the move of you move on from DeAndre Yedlin,
but the additions that this team has now made and
(01:31:07):
how you believe they will help them going forward.
Speaker 8 (01:31:10):
Yeah, listen there.
Speaker 31 (01:31:12):
First of all, let's start with there were obvious error
or air areas, I should say, where the club wanted
to improve. Certainly attacking somebody to play alongside Kevin Dankat
regularly was a target. They had already added one player
in Ayu Jabari, who the reports and pat indicated he
should be here this weekend. So great to hear that
(01:31:34):
he's coming on. You know, a young striker, you know,
with some international experience over in Europe and will be
coming to join the mix.
Speaker 8 (01:31:43):
So but in the conversations I was having, it felt like.
Speaker 31 (01:31:46):
That wasn't the only move that there would be another
and Kevin and I sitting up in our booth, you know,
kind of preparing, and I said, you know, the deadlines Thursday.
I remember sitting there on Saturday night, So the deadline's
coming up on Thursday.
Speaker 8 (01:31:58):
I don't think they're done in the attack either, you know.
Speaker 31 (01:32:02):
And I had started to hear some whispers, you know,
from from folks outside of the club, none none to
do to the club that that you know, DeAndre might
be going to Salt Lake on Saturday night. And I
was like, huh, Now, DeAndre was up, his contract was
up after this year, and and you know, per Pat
noon press conference today, he said, look, the club very
much wanted to keep him. I think DeAndre also, like
(01:32:23):
every professional athlete, wanted some long term stability and you know,
a contract that in the you know, his opinion and
his UH agent's opinion was fair market value. And apparently
he got that from Salt Lake to sign on to
a long term deal and that she since Sandy countered
and it wasn't enough to keep DeAndre around. So I
(01:32:44):
think they did right by him in sending him out there.
And of course he's from Seattle, began his career in
Major League soccer out there.
Speaker 8 (01:32:50):
That gets him a little bit closer to home.
Speaker 31 (01:32:54):
But it's sad to see him go, Like what a
great guy he was in the locker room, on the pitch,
all around this team. You know, DeAndre was class personified,
and so I think he'll be missed in that way.
But so you know what happens when when those rumors starting,
I start gettingext messages like what this doesn't make much sense?
(01:33:14):
What's going on? What's Chris working on? And I'm like, listen, people,
I don't know. Chris doesn't invite me into these meetings.
Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
Acquisitions.
Speaker 9 (01:33:24):
No.
Speaker 31 (01:33:24):
I love that that people think they ask my opinion.
I mean, if I ever gave him one, they would
probably left me out of the room, you know, but
you know it. I was like, yeah, I appreciate that
you all think I have that kind of influence, but.
Speaker 8 (01:33:38):
You all know probably on social.
Speaker 31 (01:33:40):
Media before I know, on social media as these things
come out, and I just said, let let Chris do
what he does, because he tends to have a very
high hit rate and does well in improving his team.
But he had to move some things around because he
didn't have a whole lot of Rosster flexibility. So Obviously
the departure of DeAndre gives them some roster flexibility. Uh
(01:34:00):
you know already we've seen announced today and the rumors
came out last night.
Speaker 8 (01:34:05):
But in a separate move with.
Speaker 31 (01:34:07):
Salt Lake, the young polishman Dominique mark Zuke is brought
on and he's a guy I think with very high upside.
Made his debut with the post national team last year.
You know, obviously he's looking for more minutes. He wasn't
really getting them in Salt Lake. He was playing out
a position at times, and we'll be looking to come in.
The Mexic can play at that right wing back position,
Alic Pile can play at the right wing back position,
(01:34:29):
and Retchenik can play at the right wing back position.
Speaker 8 (01:34:31):
So they have a lot of bodies. Luke orsonno can
play over there.
Speaker 31 (01:34:35):
You know, they have a lot of people who could
play at right wing back and fill that role right now.
And then it, you know again gives Chris alright flexibility
to continue to improve the team and to find ways
to bring in more techning pieces, which you know is
the hottest rumor right now when we're just waiting for
our email to ding with the official press release, but yeah, no,
(01:34:57):
I think it was a very exciting and you know
they've they've addressed the needs now and that's you know,
still we're talking about bringing in Ayu Jabari, who will
be in this week and and probably be in the
mix with the team. They'll see how his fitness is
and you know, if he's available to be involved in
foot offhire next week. And then they await Samuel g
d you know, the midfielder who provides depth there and
that was another one that they talked about, or the
(01:35:19):
pat you mentioned today, that's still a little bit further
down the road and here's arrival because they got to
work out his visa. But no, I think, uh, you know,
Chris Albright put it on a sot of work this
summer to improve this team and and you know, send
a very clear message to the city, the Major League Soccer,
you know, the entire league, as she can say, he's
going for it and has every intention of putting together
(01:35:40):
a group they canna win MLS.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
GOUP, how do you come up with the the numbers?
We were asking this yesterday the real salt Lake for
DeAndre Yedlin three hundred, four thousand, seven hundred. What do
we do with that extra seven hundred dollars.
Speaker 31 (01:35:52):
You know, sometimes I sometimes I'd like to believe that
Chris is just messing with everybody, you know, the fly. Yeah,
he's like, hey, he's on the phone with the Salt
Lake GM and he's like, listen, man, let's just messle
with everybody and have them all specting why we're doing
seven hundred dollars here.
Speaker 8 (01:36:09):
My understanding of it is that it had something to.
Speaker 31 (01:36:11):
Do with the pro rated portion of Deandre's salary. So
I don't know if it's twenty seven divide by thirty
four whatever that percentage would be at this point in
the season, you know, times Deandrea's salary or if there's
another formula, but whatever the pro rated portion of his
salary is at this point, that that's how they got
(01:36:32):
to this number. I know there was a move I'm
trying to think who it was for a couple of
years ago where there was another number like that that
Chris made an acquisition of allocation money and it was
because of the pending move that was going to follow
it needed that exact number to fit the salary cap.
So that was why he you know, sold a international
(01:36:54):
spot or whatever. It might have been, you know, to
get that number in return to make the co responding
a move. But now I believe in that case that
something to do with Deandre's salary and the pro rate,
a portion that you know was still on the table
for twenty twenty five, and so that's that's how it
got figured out. But he is doing I mean, there
is some advanced maths by Chris and his staff right
(01:37:17):
now to figure it out. Because of the roster spots
and because of the salary cap. You know, like I
Sai at the beginning's conversation, there's not a lot of
wiggle room. And I think they've done a really masterful
job of cooking up a recipe that you know, makes
it all fit.
Speaker 3 (01:37:33):
When you start talking about the acquisition that they made
from Real Salt Lake and then Brenner, you know, coming
back to this team. How long do you think it
takes in the MLS world to get those guys up
and running and ready to contribute, Because in any sport
we talked about this in football the time. If you
go sign a free agent today, how long does it
take before they're comfortable getting in there and being able
(01:37:55):
to contribute? How long does that does that look like
in your opinion.
Speaker 31 (01:38:00):
Well, I think it's a different scenario. You know for
guys who have been in the league and guys who
have not. So you bring in Ayub Jabbari, he's never
played in Major League soccer, he's never lived in Cincinnati.
Is going to be a little bit more of an
acclimization period. Right when when Samuel Gedi gets here. Same story.
(01:38:22):
You know for a guy like Dominic Mark zuks Sert,
youngster going to be coming, you know, to Cincinnati to
live for the first time, but he's been playing in
Major League Soccer, so he knows what to expect. You know,
his team played against f C Cincinnati. Now, but a
month ago. You bring in guys who have played in
Major League soccer and you know in in you know
the situation of Brentner coming back, and you know that
(01:38:44):
rumored one.
Speaker 8 (01:38:45):
It's not official official yet, I guess at this point.
Speaker 31 (01:38:47):
But this there's a guy who played in Cincinnati who
also was.
Speaker 8 (01:38:51):
A green cards. You're not waiting on any visa, you know,
they they're way they were. They were waiting on Jabbari's.
You know, they're waiting on Gid's.
Speaker 31 (01:38:58):
This is something that you know, and you get to
know the administrative staff who manages these things.
Speaker 8 (01:39:04):
You know, those guys.
Speaker 31 (01:39:05):
I give all the credit in the world to the
admins because they work their tail off to get all
the paperwork done to make them eligible to play here
in the United States. If you can bring in a
player that's already played in Major League Soccer and has
a green card so they don't have to worry about,
you know, waiting out a visa going home to pick
up the paperwork, that saves day a lot of.
Speaker 8 (01:39:26):
Travel, but be a lot of time.
Speaker 31 (01:39:28):
And you know, I would imagine that that guys who
already have them all this experience coming into the team
are going to be a lot easier to throw right
into the mix than guys who have not.
Speaker 3 (01:39:39):
How how big is this message that it not only
sends to the locker room but the rest of the MLS.
Of what f C Cincinnata was able to do over
the last day or so.
Speaker 31 (01:39:47):
No, I think it's huge. I think it's you know, listen,
she sad. It's the top dog right now in the
Eastern Conference, and you know they're tied with San Diego,
albeit quite behind on the goal differential, which is the
first tiebreaker. But there's there's games we played seven for
both these teams. So will they end up on the
same amount of points?
Speaker 8 (01:40:04):
Maybe not.
Speaker 31 (01:40:05):
Will Season Sidy catch San Diego as they trail them
by eleven goals and go differential at the moment, you know,
probably not because what I say at the beginning of
the seat some times loves these one goal games, right,
but hey, maybe with the more offensive fire firepower coming
and they can push that number. But listen, right now,
the key is controlling your destiny, the that sets your
(01:40:27):
pass up. You know, to be in a really good place,
in a really safe situation. So we know what you're
playing a TQL stadium all but one game, which will
be Game.
Speaker 8 (01:40:37):
Two of the first round, which is the best of three.
So I think that, yeah, I know it.
Speaker 31 (01:40:43):
Sends a message that that they want to win. Carl
Lenner wants to win, His ownership group wants to win.
You know that Chris Allybody wants to win, and that Chris,
you know, Carl and the ownership group is giving Chris
all the tools and more importantly, all the resources and
the money to go get the game, to make this
a championship club. And right now they have opportunity to
(01:41:04):
win two trophies and they are going for them both.
And that let us give you like goosebumps and chills
and have fired you up on a Friday afternoon, and
then you need to go get your pulse checked or something,
because like that's awesome and I don't think, you know,
as a fan base, you can ask for anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:41:21):
Tommy, to wrap up, you mentioned the matchup with New
York City tomorrow and you know, getting some revenge on
what happened last year with New York City. Also, we
talked earlier about, you know, kind of getting some of
these home games back late in the season. Not only
is it New York, I already got my eyes to
next weekend as well because the Philadelphia Union, who have
kind of been back and forth at the top of
the East. It's a big two game stretch here for
(01:41:43):
FC Cincinnati to hold Serve tomorrow at home and then
welcome in a very good team in Philly the following weekend.
Speaker 8 (01:41:50):
Correct, And you know it's the thing.
Speaker 31 (01:41:53):
You feel like you win these two at home, like
you're in the driver's seat, say your first place, You're
in the driver's seat. You're only a point ahead, of
flot of uh you know, five points ahead of Ashville.
A lot of results last weekend went in favor of
SC Cincinnati. You know, Miami is still lingering there and
and that's with three games in hand. But now they've
advanced the leaf Cups, so they got two more games,
(01:42:13):
so their schedules congested. You know, Massey Jordie albo are
not traveling for the match this weekend.
Speaker 8 (01:42:18):
Uh So, in fat Cincinnati win this weekend and Miami
dropped points, then they wander to be far enough ahead
that they would truly control their own destiny the rest
of the way if they were to win went out.
Speaker 31 (01:42:29):
And I don't think that's crazy to say, you know,
six to seven games remaining in the regular season, because
they went out.
Speaker 8 (01:42:34):
Absolutely if they went out, where they win the league? Yeah,
I think so.
Speaker 31 (01:42:37):
You know, so right now, you know they sit across
the top of the Eastern Conference. And if you win
this one, all right now you have maybe get a
little bit of breathing room.
Speaker 8 (01:42:47):
Phutolfi's goalkeep Rodderd Blake is hurt. What would that mean?
You know?
Speaker 31 (01:42:50):
And then then Philadelphia's here the following week, which then
gives you potentially you know, even if we even at
Philadelphia and FC Sinnati both win this weekend, if you
beat the Union the following weekend, now you've got that
four point cushion, which gives you one game of breathing room,
which is huge. You know, is it crazy to think
they win the rest? Well, sure, maybe a little bit,
But is that out of the question. I don't think so. Albeit,
(01:43:12):
it's gonna be a tough stretch. They have a lot
of teams that are in the playoff on ahead of them, but.
Speaker 8 (01:43:17):
They've been very good at home.
Speaker 31 (01:43:18):
Five of seven will be played at t Quos Ediom,
and you know, you got to take care of business there.
They're also the best road team in Major League Soccer,
albeit just with two road games remaining. But it's certainly exciting.
And you think, you know, to the last two seasons, Tony,
and you know, at this point two years ago, we
(01:43:39):
could see that ability to win a supporter shield was
pretty real and there was work to be done, and
it wasn't a certain thing, you know, sitting there in
August twenty seconds that was gonna happen. But man, that
ship was rolling in sync all together in the right
direction as we sat here last year that team was good.
But I don't think that we sat there on a
Friday in August or September and really had this conversation
(01:44:03):
and really felt that the team was all on sync
and rolling in the right direction and that they had
all the pieces they needed. I think that Pat Newton
has all the pieces he needs now to win MLS Cup,
and that's not forget. He's gonna get Woboto back at
some point. I saw him today he was working outside
and asked the niest feelings, said, he's doing great rehabs going, well,
you know, you're gonna get him back, hopefully as long
(01:44:25):
as he stays on track sometime in October. That's almost
like a cheat code that you're gonna get. Imagine ob
playing a couple of games in October and then being
fully fit into the playoffs and it was one of
the best defensive midsitters in the league. That you're gonna
throw it back into the mix, you know, for your
starting eleven. So no, I think all the pieces are
there and people should have you know, a lot of
(01:44:46):
really good feelings and excitement around the club at this moment.
Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
I think that's the word, the excitement, not only what
this club is doing on the pitch, but what they're
doing off the pitch to make themselves as formidable as
possible to win an MLS championship and bring that right
here to Cincinnati. That is Tom Galetter. He's the voice
of FC Cincinnati. You can hear him on the call
tomorrow night at TQL Stadium. Tommy, as always, man, appreciate
the time, and I look forward to talking again next week.
(01:45:11):
We'll talk about Philadelphia coming in, We'll talk about three
points for FC Cincinnati. We'll talk about you see it
coming off a win against Nebraska.
Speaker 31 (01:45:18):
Yeah, I appreciate you. I can't wait. I can't wait
to talk about all of that.
Speaker 8 (01:45:23):
So it will be.
Speaker 31 (01:45:25):
Uh, it's gonna be a great week and a great
day tomorrow. And that's fire up this college football season
and AUF with Gil.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
Brother ready to go. Tommy, thanks so much for for
your time. Enjoy the call tomorrow. We'll talk next.
Speaker 8 (01:45:35):
Week, Tony, Tony, Tony A pleasure.
Speaker 3 (01:45:38):
Yes, Tom Galetter, the voice of FC Cincinnati. We got
a break, We'll come back plenty more to go our
number three next since he three to sixty. Thanks to
Penn Station. Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (01:45:51):
Crapload, that's boya Cincy three sixty is back on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (01:46:12):
Welcome back since he three p sixty ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station, Thanks to pen station. Let's a little
get your backup off the wall. Have a good family friend,
good buddy of mine who's whose father And I won't
name names Drew because I don't want to put people's
business out there. But when that song comes on, when
(01:46:35):
they say in that song, get your backup off the wall,
he will literally throw himself off a wall.
Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
Love that gets his back off the wall. That's kind
of energy the song calls for it is.
Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
And this is a grown man, This is an adult
in the electricity that emulates when he does that, second to.
Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
None, he gets the people going, Man, get down on it,
get the folks going.
Speaker 3 (01:46:55):
Put your backup off the wall, get down on it. Unbelievable.
Shout out to him, who will remain unnamed because I
don't want to put his business out there. Really really quick.
We've talked Reds, We've talked Bengals. Has the college football
season Drew snuck up on us very much like we
(01:47:16):
are here. We're talking tomorrow about a game in Ireland
between two top twenty five teams at noon. Yeah, we
get college football Top twenty five. You get to wake
up tomorrow, have a chill in the air, and enjoy
some college football.
Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
How do you feel about week zero? I hate the
term week zero. Yeah, just make it week one.
Speaker 3 (01:47:35):
Just make it week one. I don't care if you're
playing in Ireland. I don't care if you're playing in Russia.
I don't care where you're playing the game. All I
care about is what's going to happen on Thursday. Oh yeah,
I've already got a bet placed with the Great Willy
Cunningham right on the Bearcats over for the season. I
told him, if the Bearcats win at Nebraska, he can
just pay up on his bet because it's not going
to be good for Willy.
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
Oh what was the what line did you give him?
Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
No line? I get money. I don't even want points.
I'm talking about the game. I don't even accept points
from him. I mean, for years, the pride of Deer Park,
he always wants points, and he wants lines and spreads.
I say, I'm confident that the team I pulled for
is just gonna win. I don't want points, I don't
want charity handouts. I just want to be paid what
(01:48:20):
I mode in that time. Thank you. I appreciate that
you're a man of integrity. I'm a man of integrity,
and that's why I came from reading in not Deer Park.
There you go, it's an unbelievable thing. Here's what we
got the rest of the way. UH, Robert Newness from
Win Schuler's cheese spreads is gonna be here. That's right,
(01:48:41):
we're gonna talk cheese spreads, Drew.
Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
I had some of those cheese spreads and they were.
Speaker 3 (01:48:45):
They drop them off. He's got some in here that
he brought right now. I am. I'm a big fan
of tailgating. Who isn't And anything that upgrades my tailgate
is something that I've got a lot of respect in
admiration for. And the folks that Win Schulers are are
going to be a part of this football season with us.
(01:49:08):
They are going to uh to be a part of
the show. They're going to be a sponsor and UH
in doing that, I said, let's have Robert come in
the studio with some of those cheese spreads and uh
we'll talk about it on a Friday. That'll happen next
and then Mo will join us for quick hits on
cinty three to sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 12 (01:49:26):
Loweger reality is they're probably not good enough.
Speaker 11 (01:49:30):
He dissects the local sports scene.
Speaker 10 (01:49:32):
They're not consistent enough.
Speaker 11 (01:49:33):
The way up fourth grader dissects Apron not reliable enough. Muegger.
Today at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 9 (01:49:41):
We go hour three.
Speaker 3 (01:49:42):
We're rolling along on a Friday afternoon, ESBN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station. If you've been a fan of this show,
then you already know I'm a fan of what we're
about to talk about. Uh Win Schulers cheese spreads. They've
been around before for football season. They are back for
this upcoming football season. And we have the president of
wind Shoulders right now, Robert Nuonez, is joining us in studio. Robert,
(01:50:04):
how you doing doing great? There's something about this time
of the year that also just pairs well when you
start to think of tailgates or having people over to
watch the big game, that just pairs so well and
makes it so easy to use Wind Shoulders with that
tailgates parties.
Speaker 32 (01:50:24):
A football time is a time for everybody to come
together and have a great time, and part of that
is your favorite beverage, your favorite foods, and watching your
favorite team either on TV or at the stadium. And
we're pleased to be here and wish the Bengals all
the best for twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:50:42):
It is an absolute must have for football season, from
the tailgates at the stadium to the watch parties in
your living room. It's also not like you guys are
a fly by night name here. You guys have been
around for decades perfecting what you're doing.
Speaker 32 (01:50:56):
Since the mid fifties when the product was originally invented
out in Marshall, Michigan, which is not too far up
the road and Marshall, Michigan, where the restaurant was was
actually in those days a stopover for many of the
Big Ten teams. They were traveling by bus across the Midwest.
(01:51:17):
So from Purdue to atlant to Michigan State or to
Michigan and and IU up to Michigan or Ohio State
going up to Michigan State, they would stop over at
the win Shuler restaurant and have their team meal on
the way because those are long bus rides. So that's
kind of the original. The original where Schuler started and
(01:51:39):
the original chief spread legend goes was created by Win
Shuler and a gentleman named Duffy Doherty or Big Ten fans.
He was the coach for Michigan State for many years. Yes,
and so yeah, it has a has a football originality
to it.
Speaker 3 (01:51:57):
It's obviously high quality. There's another authentic flavor and I
don't want to just limit it. It's not just for
for football season obviously, holidays, Thanksgiving, family parties, whenever you're
bringing groups of people together. It's absolutely perfect. What what
are the four flavors that we have here today?
Speaker 32 (01:52:15):
We have original and that's that's been around for a
long time. But then we've also created a sharp traditional
sharp cheddar uh, a cheddar bacon.
Speaker 3 (01:52:25):
Which goes great. Spread that on a burger and it's
just awesome.
Speaker 6 (01:52:30):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
And we have a pepper jack, which is relatively new.
See how how how many flavors did you start with
and and how long have you guys rolled with the
four here?
Speaker 32 (01:52:40):
Well, we started with one and the four have been
around for about the last eight years. Okay, So we
added them as we went along, and uh, that's that's
the lineup right now.
Speaker 3 (01:52:49):
It's it's probably not fair to put you on the
spot because you obviously love all of them. Do you
have a favorite?
Speaker 23 (01:52:55):
Uh?
Speaker 32 (01:52:55):
Well, original I grew up with, but I really like
pepper jack as well. It's just it's it's it's unique
and that there aren't many pepper jack spreads, and pepper
jack cheese is a favorite cheese amongst a lot of folks.
And being able to get that in a spread, whether
you put it in a like with a chicken sandwich
(01:53:15):
or you roll it up you almost have a fajita
with that. That that little kick of pepper jack is
it's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
What is it that makes what you guys do stand
out from from everything else? Obviously that I've raved about
the taste from when I first met you, and I
know others do as well. What is it that makes
what you guys are able to do stand out from
the rest?
Speaker 32 (01:53:35):
Well, it's flavor is number one. I mean, not only
do you have great flavors. We got that great cheese flavor.
How many people don't don't like cheese cheese cheese, but
also the great spread ability Uh, it spreads on bread
on crackers.
Speaker 3 (01:53:51):
You can take a we have breadsticks here.
Speaker 32 (01:53:53):
You can just scoop it in and and and it's
just very easy to spread and eat and deal with.
So someone sits down with a tub of cheese and
by halftime they're looking for another tub.
Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
So I mean, you're a You're a Lions guy, as
we've talked about before. So at the end of the
day here, Bengals Lions super Bowl would be ideal for
both parties. That would be great. That would be great,
I can tell you.
Speaker 32 (01:54:17):
Up in Detroit, the fans are screaming for Trey Hendrickson
to be traded. All yeah, and I suspect that the
two two dominant defensive ends well nice in in uh
video games, doesn't work in a in a cap league, right,
So I'm guessing that's not going to happen, And hopefully
(01:54:37):
you guys get him signed because he's a key piece
of your defense and without that defense, you've got the offenses.
It's terrific, but that defense has got to stop somebody,
and Trays a big piece of that.
Speaker 3 (01:54:49):
From a Bengals standpoint. Obviously, with with now being a
valued Bengals partner, with us and and this team and
not being able to celebrate a win, celebrate a win
with with win shoulders. How much do folks now take note?
Do you believe of what the Bengals are doing here
in Cincinnati and the excitement that's being generated around football season?
Speaker 32 (01:55:08):
I mean in that division, I mean those four teams
have traditionally been great, well perhaps with the three four
three out of the four and so and the season
that that Burrows had last year was incredible. You know,
you score thirty five points, you should win football games. Yeah,
played at the super Bowl. You should be played in
(01:55:29):
the super Bowl. And so we'll see. I mean, it's
it's all about that defense and and and I think
the uncertainty, the only uncertainty is whether hendricks Is is
on the on the line, and if he's not, that's
a big hole the fhill.
Speaker 3 (01:55:45):
There is a there's a good chance if you've been
to a tailgate or uh some type of party in
the fall, you've already had win Shulders. If you're listening
uh from an an opportunity to find win Shulders. What's
the easiest way to to find your guys product.
Speaker 32 (01:55:58):
Being the grocery stores, Myers uh, Kroger's should should have
it in the in their grocery stores, and then it's
also in mom and pop stores through the distributors. But uh,
Myers and Kroger would be your your top places.
Speaker 3 (01:56:11):
Just to just to put into perspective what we did.
You asked when you came in today, should you set
this spread up here in the studio or out in
the the common area. We made sure that you're set
up in the studio. Well, you are in the water
out there. You are four very forward. There's already people
looking in here. They're wondering why there's there's food in here,
but not out there for them. It's a very nerve
(01:56:31):
rocking time outside of the studio. Right now, you're causing
a commotion. That's okay. We uh, we're so excited to
uh to have you on board. We're so excited for
the upcoming football season. And uh we honestly can't thank
you enough for coming in today.
Speaker 32 (01:56:44):
Well, I appreciate you having me in and and I said,
good luck to the Bengals, and good but good luck
to the Reds as well. Hopefully they can get into that. Well, yeah,
it spot big time. So it's it's a it's a
it's a fun time a year for sports. Everybody's uh
football is getting started, Baseball's pendic getting to the pendacle
of the season, and it's a good time it is.
Speaker 3 (01:57:04):
It's a great chance here with the Bengals and the
Reds playing meaningful baseball and UC football is starting on
Thursday of next week, it is the perfect time to
bring all this together. That is Robert noonas the president
of a wind Shulers Foods. So if you're a fan,
if you're looking to elevate your your football watch parties,
your tailgates, your holiday gatherings, grabsa win Shuless chee spread.
(01:57:26):
It is a crowd pleaser and it's the perfect way
to turn any get together into a huge celebration. We'll
be back. Quick Hits is next to wrap up our
Friday on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (01:57:39):
Ky Cincinnati on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It's
time for Cincy three sixty Quick Hits on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 10 (01:57:51):
We're back.
Speaker 3 (01:57:51):
It is Sincy three sixty. We are a service here
right now, our number three at Penn Station. I am
doing the same thing right now. Drew I'm looking for.
I told Mo we'd be back at two forty five.
He's not in here yet, so we'll wait eagerly his
arrival to see what's coming up on the Moeger Show today.
While we're waiting, I can tell you that the Reds
(01:58:14):
will begin tonight's action against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a half
game out in the wild Card. The first pitch tonight
for the Reds is currently scheduled for nine. That means
you'll have a pretty good indication as to what the
Mets and Braves have done before the start of tonight's game,
(01:58:37):
which means that the Reds could at the end of
the night seemingly being the lead in the n Wild Card,
ahead of the Mets. And as you put it earlier, Drew,
the pressure is squarely whether they're holding off the Reds
or whether they're trying to chase the Reds. The pressure
is squarely on the Mets in this.
Speaker 2 (01:58:56):
And I just think the Reds have got to play
with that looseness, knowing, yep, that they are not the
team that has all the pressure on them.
Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
Yeah. I thought Charlie Goldsmith did a good job of
outlining that today of the pressure is not on this team.
They've got to find a way to play loose. They've
got players on the roster that can help them with that.
MOA is with us, Now, what's up?
Speaker 12 (01:59:14):
Mo I don't entirely agree. Oh, I think there's pressure
on the Reds. Yeah, you haven't made the postseason in
thirty years, Salid. I mean, I actually I think that's
why they would be fun if they got in, because
then it's like, we got in, we got good starting pitching,
we have to win the best two out.
Speaker 3 (01:59:29):
Of three seis.
Speaker 12 (01:59:31):
But you hired Terry Francona to make the postseason. You're
in a position to make the postseason. You've got major
league ready players, You've got a genuine, really good starting staff. Like, yeah,
there's pressure to make the postseason. Yeah, I know it's
a little bit different in New York because of what
they spent on that team.
Speaker 3 (01:59:47):
I was thinking from a payment standpoint, they have the
largest payroll in baseball.
Speaker 12 (01:59:51):
Yeah, but like they're always going to have that, They're
always they're always going to just replenish their roster. Like
I think the New York Mets will have more opportunities
to play in the postseason. Then the Reds will just
because of baseball's economics. So the Reds have a chance
go get in. But I'm gonna call my shot today.
I'm not going to guarantee that the Reds make the postseason.
I'll stop Jess short.
Speaker 3 (02:00:11):
I'll explain what will be your reaction at maybe some
point tonight when the cowboy has this to say when
they go to the bullpen, do you have this audio
drip Big Sugar?
Speaker 6 (02:00:19):
Coach Maxwell, throw that thing, Big Sugar.
Speaker 10 (02:00:27):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 12 (02:00:28):
When he says that it's probably gonna be like a
four to three game eighth in a one out, bases loaded,
like that's what they've done all year long. Throw these
guys in high leverage situation. So Big Sugar will probably
have a chance to pour some sugar or I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:00:43):
I don't know what we do diamond with sugar.
Speaker 10 (02:00:45):
Here you go, that's right.
Speaker 3 (02:00:46):
What do you got coming up on the Friday Afternoon
show here?
Speaker 12 (02:00:50):
Well, we're I'm trying to come up with like a
different angle on this boomeras Ice and has to pay
for a hotel room thing. And now Corey Dyllon has said, like, hey,
I wasn't even invited I'm trying to come up with
a new angle. I how do you screw this up?
What I want to know is there are folks on
social media whose identities are wrapped around telling the world
(02:01:10):
that the Bengals do everything right.
Speaker 10 (02:01:12):
How do they spend this? Yep, how's this going to
be spun?
Speaker 12 (02:01:15):
It's a bad one. This isn't good happen. We're gonna
spend some time on that.
Speaker 10 (02:01:19):
It does.
Speaker 3 (02:01:20):
Your name is in the stadium, your boomer osiasin it
should be how many plane tickets do you need? And
is one room enough?
Speaker 10 (02:01:28):
Would you like a whole floor of rooms?
Speaker 3 (02:01:30):
Right?
Speaker 12 (02:01:30):
Where can we buy you dinner? It's boomer It's when
your name is on the stadium. Like I understand, you
know when the Bengals made the Super Bowl, right, like
every like former player, anybody who had ever had any
connection to the Bengals came to them out of the
woodwork for Super Bowl tickets. My understanding is every player
who ever played for the Bengals had the option to
(02:01:53):
buy a pair from the Bengals. I understand there's a limit,
Like you're probably gonna offer for Anthony Munio is a
different deal than Eric Gichek.
Speaker 10 (02:02:03):
Yes, I get that.
Speaker 3 (02:02:05):
Are they all getting the same email? You think?
Speaker 12 (02:02:06):
But when your name is on the stadium and they
on the email with Boomer invited to comeback? Can can
my guy get a free hotel room? My favorite all
time player? Things are remarkably unsettled with the Bengals as
we approach the start of the season, which is now
what two weeks away from Sunday? What did they get
(02:02:30):
done this offseason?
Speaker 3 (02:02:31):
That's a great question, like.
Speaker 10 (02:02:32):
That's what I want to know.
Speaker 12 (02:02:33):
What got accomplished between the last game and today, What
is legitimately that furthers the goal of winning a championship?
Speaker 10 (02:02:40):
What has gotten done?
Speaker 3 (02:02:41):
When I had Charlie on today, I feel like I
asked him the same questions that I asked him when
the offseason begin. Are they good enough on the old line?
Speaker 10 (02:02:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:02:48):
Has the defense done enough to improve? And I'm still
asking those questions And those are the two biggest variables
going into the.
Speaker 12 (02:02:54):
Year, which is why I am going to give you
and me and Austin is just finding out about this
listening to the show, awards to Austin, we have managed
to get eight months out of content from a team
that really did nothing correctable. We made it sound like
a lot was going on, didn't We We've made it
sound like there were a lot of moving parts. In reality,
(02:03:16):
nothing has happened. It might as well be the Monday
after the last game of the season, So we're gonna
spend some time on that.
Speaker 3 (02:03:22):
Speaking of a lot going on as they sit in
first in the MLS standings. Yeah, FC Cincinnati has been
uber aggressive over the last twenty four hours. Just talk
to Tom Gallader about it. That that is a message
being sent to the roster and the rest of the
MLS that they are going all in for a championship.
Speaker 12 (02:03:39):
Chris Albright's a very good general manager, very good. They've
used the transfer window, well window, well, DeAndre Leaedland, DeAndre
Yedlin gets traded. Brenner is coming back. It feels like
that franchise. It just it feels like that franchise like
is really well run on the soccer end of it.
Sascha Klitchten is going to join our show. He says
(02:04:00):
c Cincinnati is going to win the Supporter Shield. He's
a MLS S He's in pass Apple TV's going to
join us at five thirty five. But I get one
of those people on every single week, and every single
week they talk about Albright and Noonan, how well they
work with each other, how they compliment each other, how
they're always on the same page. They always seem I mean,
this is a team that traded away the MVP from
(02:04:22):
two years ago, yep, and have not skipped a beat now.
They haven't won a home match in a while, They've
played kind of unevenly in the League's Cup and really
since the middle of the summer. But they're in a
position to win the Supporter Shield. They're one of the
favorites in the Eastern Conference, and it feels like they've
used the transfer window well.
Speaker 3 (02:04:39):
Speaking of calling your shot, yeah, Jerry Jones is now
out on this media tour and he said that there
was an offer in place to make Micah Parsons the
highest paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the
NFL history. He claims that happened, and then he claims
that David Mullagetta said, take that offer and stick it
up your bleat. Ryan Clark then went to David Mullagetta
and mullageda SA But no, I would never say that
(02:05:01):
to an owner or an organization or a team. Call
your shot. Which side is telling the truth here? David Mullagetton.
Speaker 12 (02:05:08):
Yeah, I think Jerry Jones from a football perspective is
the most overrated executive in the history of professional football. Now,
from a business perspective, he's done some amazing things for
other owners, but as a football executive, it is remarkable
to me that we talk about him as much. I
(02:05:28):
get it, he's the Cowboys owner. I understand the Cowboys
are a large brand. The Cowboys haven't played in an
NFC Championship game in thirty years. He fired arguably the
greatest coach the Cowboys have ever had. Tom Landry obviously
would have something to say with that, but that is
remarkable to me. I think Jerry Jones is the most
(02:05:50):
overrated sports executive from a competitive standpoint in the history
of football. Take that so, I believe the agent.
Speaker 3 (02:05:57):
Inside that division the Commander's trade Brian Robinson juniorty nine
ers for a six round pick career year last year. Yeah,
six round pick. Yeah, as all the forty nine ers
had to give up. College football starts tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (02:06:08):
Week zero got a game in Dublin.
Speaker 3 (02:06:10):
What do you think about Week zero? So they call
it Week one?
Speaker 12 (02:06:13):
I like week zero, okay, I because it's like, if
you look at the games, that doesn't feel like Week one.
Speaker 3 (02:06:20):
Everybody played, but there's gonna be something special tomorrow to
be able to wake up mosy around and at noon
sit down and watch a top twenty five game.
Speaker 10 (02:06:27):
Yeah, let's call it week half.
Speaker 3 (02:06:30):
Okay.
Speaker 12 (02:06:30):
How do you feel about what urban Meyer has said
about the punishments or lack thereof for Jim Harball.
Speaker 3 (02:06:35):
I think there is some validity to it. Also, I
think urban Meyer is probably one of the few people
that I can't really but.
Speaker 10 (02:06:42):
He's not wrong. He's not wrong, He's I mean.
Speaker 3 (02:06:44):
And there's there's history there, Yes, with Tressel, there's there's
legit history of what the NFL stepped in to Doroll prior. Yeah,
he's he's.
Speaker 12 (02:06:51):
One hundred percent right. It's great to have college football back.
I can't wait weeks. I like calling it week zero,
but I can't. I'm excited for next Thursday. Man, Yeah,
I can't wait. You and I what we're going to
be doing there, you and I the house. I will
talk myself into you see winning. I think it's gonna
be a really good game.
Speaker 3 (02:07:11):
I do too.
Speaker 12 (02:07:12):
I'm not going to tell you the Bearcats are going
to win UNTI yeah. Next Wednesday Night, I think you
see Nebraska is going to be a sneaky good game.
Speaker 3 (02:07:18):
Have you plotted out our Wednesday night yet? Any indications
of where we'll be.
Speaker 12 (02:07:22):
We're gonna get some Kansas City food, Okay, barbecue, Okay,
I have a place in Kansas City I like. But
there's going to be eighty thousand Nebraska fans.
Speaker 3 (02:07:31):
That's even better for us.
Speaker 12 (02:07:32):
Just patrolling downtown case not the first time we've been
out in the city. So just Michigan where I want
to go, Right in the heart of downtown Kansas City.
If we're wearing barcac gear, we are going to be
dramatically out number.
Speaker 3 (02:07:45):
That's fine. But yeah, I thrive in those situations. Who
Scott got tonight?
Speaker 10 (02:07:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:07:51):
Wow, Wow reading Williamsburg hosting.
Speaker 12 (02:07:58):
No idea that I know. We have six Lakota West
yes on the ESPN fifteen thirty tonight. I've that that's
always a good rivalry. It's a good game. I've heard
the officiating cruise a little shaky tonight. Yeah, yeah, I
can believe that. I can believe that.
Speaker 8 (02:08:14):
No.
Speaker 3 (02:08:14):
Week zero and College gentleman. Work with is on the crew,
that's all. Then it would be weak. We're done. I'm done,
MO is just getting started.
Speaker 32 (02:08:22):
MO.
Speaker 3 (02:08:22):
Thanks, thank you my alarm to say we're done. ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Have a great weekend, enjoy
the Moulager Show next.
Speaker 17 (02:08:30):
