Speaker 2 (00:42):
Welcome into the Monday Midday Quarterback. How about the Bearcats?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Baby, let's get it started here on a Monday, A
lot's a lot to discuss.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
We're frustrated, we're mad, we're angry, but the show goes on.
We're not stopping.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
We turn the heat up even more. We've got a
Bengals loss to break down. I think the term demoralizing
is pretty much the easiest way to look at what
happened yesterday, because for the first time I think ever
watching a Bengals game that I can remember, I truly
didn't feel like they had a chance to win by
the time the ball was kicked off to the time
the game ended. Just never felt like they were a

(01:24):
threat to win the game yesterday, and I think that
is a failure on so many levels based on how
the roster has been built, how they've been coached, and
how they've been executing. We're gonna talk a lot about
Duke Tobin, We're gonna talk a lot about Zach Taylor.
At some point players got to execute as well. Now,
who is putting those players in the opportunities to execute?

(01:44):
Who is deciding which players have the best chance to execute?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Fair?

Speaker 3 (01:48):
That is coaching, and I one hundred percent get it.
But we have a lot to sift through today. We
can play the wheel of blame game. I asked last night,
got a lot of responses, and I feel like every
response is about the same between Zach and Duke Tobin.

(02:10):
You can individually talk about position groups like the O
line and the play of the quarterback. But one of
the things I'm gonna drive home today, Austin, and I
want to get your thought on it as well. I
just did another series of video breakdowns on x Tony
Underscore Pike fifteen. You can go watch him and in
a lot of those breakdowns, there are plays to be made,

(02:31):
and Jake Browning just isn't making them. Whether it's a
poor throw or a poor read, he's not making the throws.
So you could say, well, then it's on the job
of the quarterback. But Austin, who has been the biggest
supporter of the quarterback, Zach Taylor, the head Zach Taylor
football team, you're putting him out there. You're saying that, Hey,
I'm putting my stake in this guy, and he's letting

(02:52):
you down. And he did so after the game again
and talking more about yeah, we've got trust, We've got
faith ins in Jake Browning. That to me is a miss,
and not to me is why the seat for Zach
Taylor right now is scorching hot?

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Scorching hot for us or hit the fan base, hit
the breaking news sounder. You just said, what scorching hot
for us? So that would mean me and me, you
us together?

Speaker 4 (03:27):
You.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
I feel like Zach Taylor should no longer be the
head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
Now I say that knowing that it will be at
least at least seven to ten days before we we
get to that point. I think if I were circling
a spot on my calendar, I would circle Friday, October seventeenth,
because if the current trend continues, which is at the

(03:59):
Bengals are fourteen and a half point underdogs at Green Bay,
and then they have a standalone Thursday night game at home,
and the Bengals continue to be embarrassed the way that
they have been embarrassed, I don't know how you can
justify bringing Zach Taylor back.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
So this is this is flooring. I thinkbelievable.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
More than anything that the straw that's that broke the
camel's back for me yesterday was the way that Zach
handled Jake Browning. And you and I have disagreed in
the past, and just two weeks ago disagreed about whether
or not they should go and get another quarterback. And
I'm not afraid to say, hand up, I was wrong

(04:45):
on that. I was I thought it wouldn't matter because
the offensive line was playing so poorly and blah blah blah. Well,
the run game has at least showed signs of life,
and the pass blocking has at least been halfway decent
and as you have outlined both on this show and
on your Twitter account, there are plays there to be

(05:05):
made that Jake Browning isn't making. And so on one hand,
I can look at that and say, yeah, Zach Taylor
is putting guys in the right position, and if he
had a quarterback to operate the offense more efficiently, maybe
some of these games are different. But I also look

(05:25):
at the way Jake Browning played yesterday in one of
the worst quarterback performances I have ever seen by a professional,
and then to see him walking off the field, slamming
his hands into his helmet, grabbing onto his face, look
broke completely, crashing out on the sidelines and having what

(05:45):
the kids call these days a mente B, which is
a mental breakdown. I thought to myself, Zach Taylor can't
put him back out there, and he did, and it
kept getting war.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
My fear from yesterday though, is Hey, they played good
in the fourth quarter. You know we're figuring some stuff out.
Gained some confidence there on the fourth Austin, how many
dbs went out during the game for Detroit.

Speaker 5 (06:13):
Yesterday, at least three? I would think you think in
the they were already kind of thin there.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
You think in the fourth quarter when they led twenty
eight to three after three that they were going to
dial anything up.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Probably not.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Do you think they were just going to make sure
that they get out of there and are able to
to continue on the path that they're on.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
The long touchdown by Jamar Chase sixty four yarder a
great double move, but really a poor play by that
long Yeah, I was third and fourteen and he was
running up to the sticks and Jamar just ran right
by him.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
To put it into perspective on on I guess how
bad it was. Before that fourth quarter, Jamar Chase caught
six passes for one hundred and ten yards and two touchdowns.
But Austin, if you look at the insights, most of
his production came against off cover. Bridge Late in the game,
he had four catches in ninety seven yards on off

(07:04):
coverage from the Detroit Lions defense. Unfortunately, through those first
three quarters, Austin Jake Browning was two for nine for
forty yards and three interceptions on passes ten yards or
more in the air.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
That's not great, not great.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Chase brown Austin yesterday had seven catches for twenty one
yards Detroit knew the check down was coming, they defended
it when opportunities presented themselves. Jake Brownie neither missed the
read or missed the throw.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
There was a.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Questionable flea flicker called in the fourth quarter. Austin, you
pointed out today, and it's what I imagined yesterday. They
don't line up under center much, and when they do,
they don't run the ball in between the tackles much.
And yet with twelve minutes left in the game, in
an eighteen point deficit, the Bengals must have thought that
Detroit was going to bite up on the under center
run on a flea flicker, and then Orlando Brown Junior

(08:00):
just whiffs and it's a complete disaster. But there's so
many holes and there are so many questions. There's not
a lot of talent on this team. There are a
few bright spots, there's not a lot of talent from
the eleven on defense and the eleven on offense. I
thought special teams was poor yesterday. Again, we'll talk about
the defense, who I thought at times competed. I thought

(08:23):
at times did a heck of a job. They held
Detroit to fourteen in the first half. But when Detroit
needed to go get points, and when Detroit felt threatened,
they walked right down the field and got points. So
I don't know how to feel about the defense. The
d line I thought was better for sacks seven. Quarterback
kits Trey Hendrickson played well. We'll talk about snap count,

(08:44):
takeaways on offense and defense. I want to talk about
Zach Taylor and Jake Browning more Austin before the touchdown
for the Bengals, nineteen straight possessions without a touchdown in
the National Football League, Nineteen straight possessions. At one point,
Jamar Chase was tied for the team lead in tackles

(09:06):
with three at one point in the second quarter, Jake
Browning had more interceptions than yards per completion, and they're
a fourteen and a half point underdog at Green Bay.
As you mentioned, there is so much to sift through
for the Cincinnati Bengals, and we'll do so for much
of today. Also, we would be remissed Austin not to

(09:27):
mention the Bearcats who beat Iowa State thirty eight to thirty.
They were up thirty eight to seven at one point
on the fourteenth ranked team in the country. It was
Austin the complete opposite of what I watch on Sundays
with the Bengals. It was one of the most dominant
and physical offensive line performances I've ever seen. Yeah, Iowa
State came into the game giving up one hundred and

(09:47):
eighteen yards on the ground per game. UC had two
sixteen at halftime. Two hundred and sixteen rushing yards. Just
line up here it comes. We're gonna out physical you,
we're going to out scheme you, and we're gonna punch
you in the mouth, and there's nothing you can do
about it. So impressed upfront by the Bearcats, Impressed by

(10:08):
Brendan Soarsby, who for much of the game wasn't great
throwing the ball, and then completes an eighty two yard
to Caleb Goodie when the team needed it. The most phenomenal,
phenomenal win for the UC Bearcats. They are ten and
a half point favorite right now when they do it
again on Saturday against UCF the Knights coming into Knippert Stadium.

(10:29):
That is a noon start, and the Bearcats right now,
apevol ap pole is out. They are twenty sixth technically
in the Ape pole, so just outside the top twenty five.
Somehow Austin. They are still ranked behind Iowa State and
Penn State. Somehow still ranked after the worst loss that
I can remember in years in college football.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
Oh Man doesn't get anywhere rank. He did say something
about the travel post game.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Oh yeah, it's tough.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
I mean, obviously a tough place to play there in
the Rose Bowl at about fourteen percent capacity with UCLA
and what seventeen thousand people there or something like that.
I mean, that's just it's James Franklin to a t
I hope he is the Penn State coach forever.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Shout out to the crowd at the University of Cincinnati
Nippert Stadium was fantastic. On Saturday, we'll talk more about
the Bearcats. FC Cincinnati wins over New York one to
oh over the weekend. They host Montreal on October eighteenth,
but they can no longer clinch the supporter Shield that
was clinched by Philly. But FC Cincinnati did win their
match over the weekend as well. MLB Playoffs Dodgers come

(11:34):
from behind to beat the Philadelphia Phillies. They're up one
to oher in their series. The Blue Jays have dominated
the Yankees with power and with home runs through two games.
They're up two to OHO on the Yankees Tigers Mariners.
Tigers win Game one and eleven innings on the road.
They get skewball in Game two, but the Mariners find
a way to win. They even up the series, and
the Brewers dominated the Cubs in Game one. They are

(11:56):
up one to ohero in their series as well. I
wonder Austin in today's chaos, which is college football the
wild wild West?

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Many have called it.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Is it illegal for the UC offensive line to play
on Sunday and then go play on or could play
on Saturday and then go play on Sunday as well.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
I don't think it works that way, all right. I
did just get an update on my phone from the
ESPN app. It says put some respect on Soresby.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yeah. I saw on three Sports has him number ten
in the Heisman race. Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
I mean, how could you not the way he's played,
completing passes, doing it a little bit in the run game,
looked really sharp man.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
I said on Saturday late in that game that I
thought his touchdown late was the most impressive one he's
thrown this year because he wasn't sharp throughout the afternoon,
and when you're not sharp, it's very easy to kind
of just hang your head or get frustrated. He was
only thirteen to twenty five on the day, but backs

(12:56):
against the wall, momentum starting to swing a little bit.
I state, feeling like they had a chance. He hits
Caleb Goodie on an absolute dime for eighty two yards
and a touchdown and essentially clinches the game. So I
think it says more about a quarterback when they're not
on their a game and then they come up with
the biggest play of the game when you need them
the most, and they were able to do it. Jake

(13:17):
Golde is phenomenal for the Bearcats. He flies around the ball.
It was great getting Dante Corleone back. You want to
find something exciting, watch the one two punch of Tyee
Walker and Evan Pryor. Oh and it is a punch.
It is Tye Walker. Two of the best truck sticks
you'll ever see on the same guy. Not sure how
that guy can even play football again. And then they

(13:40):
just low you tosleep. He wants to run you over
and then Pryor gets the ball ten carries one hundred
and eleven yards two touchdowns. It reminds me, what was it,
what was the other guy's named, old school USC they
like the thunder and Lightning. It was Reggie Bush and
Hill Lyndel Lendel White. Yeah, it reminds me on a
different level of them. It almost kind of reminds me

(14:00):
of what the Lions do with Montgomery and Gibbs. Two
guys that are completely different runners, but they mesh so
well together, and the Bearcat's got it rolling in a big,
big way. We will start to pick apart yesterday's loss
for the Cincinnati Bengals. After that, we'll take your phone calls.
We'll talk about what Zach Taylor had to say after

(14:21):
the game, which I'm still trying to wonder if this
is AI or not, but I think it's actually what
Zach Taylor said. I don't trust a lot of things
with AI anymore, but I believe we have confirmation that
these are actual quotes that Zach Taylor had to say
after yesterday's loss. We'll get to those. We'll get to
your talkbacks. At two o'clock. I am going to head
to Twin Peaks in Westchester for the Tony and Moe

(14:43):
Football Show. Austin will have our number three. Wish I
could come today, Man, it'd be a good one. I
really would like to be there. It'd be a good one.
I could sense from Mo yesterday. Austin the frustration, very
very much an optimist most times and Mo. I've often
talked about Mo when it gets close to game time.
He is finding a way to talk himself into whatever

(15:05):
team he's rooting for, is gonna find a way to win.
We struggled to do that yesterday, and with that performance
that was put on display, I am eager and excited
to get a chance to talk to Mo this afternoon
as well. That'll be from three to six again Twin
Peaks in Westchester, So if you can come on out
to that, please do so. If not, listen along right
here on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. We're just

(15:25):
getting started on the home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 6 (15:31):
Now your chance to win it thouts.

Speaker 7 (15:33):
This is Football in the NATI, brought to you by
Hey During Window Company on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official
home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Welcome back Monday midday Quarterback ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Days.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
That's so funny, man, I'm just thinking about the Bengals, Like,
what what are you thinking about?

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Just laugh? Play calls, play designs, the flee flicker. Mostly. Yeah,
that wasn't good.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Let's start with the defense overall, fourteen points at the half,
giving up. They did get after a rookie left tackle
and had some success. They had four sacks overall, Hendrickson
had two of them. Seven quarterback hits. Again, fourteen points
at the half to Detroit. That's good football. It did

(16:29):
feel though every time Detroit needed to go and get
points they did so without much resistance. How do you
rank and feel about the defensive performance yesterday? They didn't
get embarrassed. I thought there were some good starts, some
good moments.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
I mean, Detroit's one of the best offenses in the
NFL and the Bengals are one of the worst defenses
in the NFL, so I could have got really bad. Yeah,
and I never really felt like it got that way.
I thought that there were some good moments. There was
one played down by the goal line where I thought TJ.
Slayton made a great move. There was one where McKinley
Jackson actually made a play that I thought looked pretty good.

(17:08):
But from a snap to snap basis, there is so
much inconsistency on the front four. Sometimes they're getting driven
back three or four yards. I didn't think bj Hill
played well. And then there are times when they actually
take it to the offensive line. And obviously every protection,
in every call and design, it is different and you

(17:28):
never know exactly what the assignment is until you look
at it on film. But they are an inconsistent group,
I think is safe to say. But Geno Stone has
these moments where he just appears to be brain dead.
Cam Taylor britt Oh, he's legitimately one of the worst

(17:49):
defenders I've ever watched with the Bengals, and that's saying
a lot. I mean, that's Nick vigil type of territory
and yet that he's in right now.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
When you look at the snap counts, he was given
twenty two of them, Josh Newton only three. What's that
say about Josh Newton.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
I think Josh Newton has a problem covering NFL wide receivers.
I think Josh Newton also gets his assignments mixed up
quite a bit. Logan Wilson looks slow.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Hey, Logan Wilson went from getting his naps taken away
to play in every single one yesterday.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
He looked slow to me. Yep, looked a little bit
on athletic.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
There was a play down on the sideline where he's
in the right position, he makes a good pursuit and
with the most simple foot in the ground move, Jamiir
Gibbs just goes right by him like he was standing still. Yeah,
and you know it's like that Mark Jackson meme where
he says, what happened to the game I love? I
was looking at Logan Wilson just getting run by, and

(18:40):
I'm thinking, what happened to the linebacker that I love?
And you know, guy gets a contract, he has a kid,
he has a debilitating knee injury. All that happens really quickly,
and maybe you're just not the same player anymore. But
let me ask you about a couple of these snaps
kind of takeaways. I was looking at, Okay, Trey Hendrickson's
the best player they have available. Do you alb with

(19:00):
Trey Hendrickson playing sixty percent of the snaps?

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (19:02):
I do, And especially because all off season I was
told how great Trey takes care of himself and takes
care of his body and.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Do
you know, well, getting a damn game?

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Do you know that, uh Joseph Osaia actually had more
snaps in the game than hendrickson yesterday?

Speaker 5 (19:17):
I don't understand. And I understand Trey at one point
and for that were using them in coverage though, so
he's got more coverage. Snap late in the game, when
the Bengals had finally actually put themselves in position to
like be in the game, yep, Trey. Trey's hand got
banged up and so he goes to the sideline to
get taped. It looked like and there was only ten

(19:39):
guys on the field and they immediately had to burn
a timeout. Yep, that little stuff right there, you gotta
get cleaned down. And also even before that, and I
don't know how many snaps Trey missed on that particular series.
It wasn't much because he was right back in relatively quickly.
But even then, I have a hard time understanding why
he's only getting how many percent, sixty.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Percent, sixty percent of the snap yesterday?

Speaker 5 (20:01):
I don't get that at all some other Trey Hendrickson
is the guy that we were told he is. All
This freaking fan base has just been all over Trey
Hendrickson for being the greatest thing since sliced bread. Why
is he playing sixty percent of the snaps on a
day where some mar Stewart's not available?

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Exactly?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
You you have got to play more when you're already shorthanded.
And I don't know who to blame on that.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
Trey Hendrickson maybe, uh, but I believe he's got elevators
in his contract for playtime, doesn't he?

Speaker 2 (20:32):
You think I don't know?

Speaker 5 (20:34):
Al Golden perhaps well, on the other side, also tell
me about Demetrius Night Junior.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Let's talk about that first.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Well.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
On the other side, Cam Sample thirty two percent of
the snaps, Miles Murphy twenty one percent. So now your
former first round pick is getting his snaps taken by
Cam Sample, who was also used in past coverage yesterday.
Why I will say this, we know who Miles Murphy is, right,
Just not that another failure of a draft pack. Yeah, okay,

(21:01):
Logan Wilson played one hundred percent of the snaps. Your
other three linebackers, Oran Burks played twenty one percent, Demetrius
Knight played fifty eight percent, Barrett Carter played fifty three percent.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
So with Oron Burks, I thought he would play a
lot just because of the nature of Detroit's offense. Yeah,
he's a really good run stopping linebatter. He has had
some moments the last couple of weeks where he's a
good tackler and you're thinking, okay, Oran Burks makes sense,
he'll play. There were these moments, most notably on Detroit's
opening possession, where the Bengals are coming out in this

(21:33):
bear front basically to try to take away that run game.
And what Al Golden is asking his end player, most
specifically Joseph Osi to do here, and this is oftentimes
determined by what we call the strength of the field.
So where the tight end is lined up, that's the
strong side, right, So Joseph Osi is lined up across

(21:57):
from what's it, Sam Laporta. Okay, his job. If Sam
Laporta stays back to block, you go up. You shove
him basically and see if Sam Laporta releases, and if
he does, you drop back into coverage.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
That was the plan.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
I'm gonna say it again with Joseph Osai and Cam Sample.
You drafted Demetrius Knight, who is a really good athlete
who you worked on this specific package with in training
camp where he was standing up on the edge, and
instead you ask Joseph Osai and Cam Sample to be

(22:42):
the guys today.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
He looked about as stiff as I would have trying
to go out and coverage and space.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
Instead of Demetrious Knight, who at least has more experience
in coverage and can if you need him to rush
the passer a little bit. And to be honest, there's
not that much of a drop off between Si and
Sample rushing the passer as there would be with Demetrius
Knight Junior. And there's a significant drop off in those

(23:08):
two guys in coverage compared to the dark Knight that
I thought was a big miss by al Gol.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Too many times I'm seeing DNZ dropping the coverage on
the tight ends and then I'm seeing linebackers matching up
with Aman Ross Saint Brown. Yeah, make those ideas make sense.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
It doesn't.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
It does not make sense. And you drafted these linebackers DK,
Darius Knight Junior, Dimitrius Night Junior, and Barrett Carter because
of their ability in pass coverage. So here's the thought,
let's use him in pass coach.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Oh no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Offensively quick snap count takeaway, they went far less twelve
personnel this game than they have in any other game
this year. Yoshi vash played eighty seven percent of yesterday snaps,
Jamar Chase ninety two.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
You'd never guess this. Austin T.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Higgins only missed two snaps in the game, yet they
couldn't find a way to get him the a catch
more than three times for twenty two yards. That's a
whole other conversation that we're gonna have to have. But
Mike Kasicki only played fifty percent of the snaps, Drew
Sample forty four percent, Noah Fan twenty four percent. Tanner
Hudson played one snap. Far less twelve personnel seemed to

(24:16):
be one of the adjustments that the Bengals were gonna
try yesterday. I don't think we saw really any improvement
from them going with twelve to them not going with
twelve personnel. The only other thing to me that stood
out outside of that one rep by Dalton Reisner Chase
Brown fifty three percent of the snaps Samaj p Ryan

(24:37):
forty seven percent, almost a fifty to fifty split between
Chase Brown and Samaj p Ryan.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
And it's not like Samaj was in there just a
pass blot.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
No.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
He ran the football four times for twenty seven yards
and Chase Brown ran the football eight times for twenty
seven yards. I thought Samaj looked pretty good running the ball.
And you know, I don't know exactly how there's so
many plays that you can go through and say, okay, well,
if this person had gotten his block, Chase Brown might

(25:08):
score a touchdown. And you don't always say that with
a guy like Samaj jp Ryan. But I thought he
performed well, especially on special teams. Brought the wood on
Khalif Raymond, which was pretty cool to see. But yeah,
I mean, I.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Thought it was a tough stat line. Chase Brown had
seven catches for twenty one yards. Three yards of catch.
That tells me Jake Browning just trying to dump it
down and the defense was like, okay, we know that's coming.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
You could.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
If Jake Browning could process even at a fraction faster,
that might be seven catches for eighty yards.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
It's like the times he has a chance to throw
to Chase Brown, he's late. And the times that he
does throw to Chase Brown, he misses somebody else.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
That's what is so good about Joe Burrow, and Joe
always talks about the idea of just finding completions. Joe
is superpower. Is that ability to process at the snap? Okay,
not there, not their checkdown and you get the ball
to Chase Brown, or you get the ball to Drew Sample,
or you get the ball to somebody coming out of
the backfield quickly enough that then go get your four

(26:09):
or five yards and keep you ahead of the sticks.
Jake Browning, it's like he'll wait and wait and wait
and wait. Is anybody can come up? Okay, now I'll
check it down. By that point, they're already moving in
position to bring your your ball carrier down. Then the
situation late in the game where he threw the interception
to Alex Anzeloni. You know, I've never played quarterback in
the National Football League like you have, but I do

(26:32):
think I probably could have gotten back to my checkdown
and thrown it there. And the way for Jake Browning
did because that took so long. And oh, by the way,
one of your checkdowns on that play was Jamar Chase separation, what.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Are we doing? It's frustrating.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
Demetrius and I had how many snaps again, Demetrious percentage
uhift eight percent? And you know he led the team
in tackles. Oh maybe that warrant's playing more a TfL
as well. You know he he he played uh twenty
six less snaps than Logan Wilson. Jamar Chase had more

(27:09):
tackles than Trey Henderson yesterday. Actually, can I read it?
I want to give you a list here please, Trey
Uh Jamar Chase had more tackles than Chris Jenkins, Cam
sample Orren Burks, Trey Henderson, Cam Taylor, Britt, Mike Penel,
Miles Murphy, samaj p Ryan Tyson, Anderson Shaka Hey were
Josh Newton, DJ Turner, McKinley Jackson, Oh.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
My lord, what are we doing?

Speaker 3 (27:33):
You know what?

Speaker 5 (27:33):
I gotta, I do, gotta Before we end this segment,
shout out to Evan McPherson because he didn't hear no
damn bell Now. I was fighting for that on side kick,
and I was glad to see some of that attitude
from Evan McPherson. He's not afraid. Yeah, he was getting
in the scrum. Shout out to man, he's probably sore
as hell today. Shout out to f he ain't been
hit like that in a while. What a night, What

(27:55):
a day, What a day to react.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
We'll start with some of your reactions next Monday, midday
Quarterback on the home of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 7 (28:05):
You've been listening to football in the NATI on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
This is what it sounds like to win out though,
ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 8 (28:24):
Third down and eight, Cats at their own eighteen yard line.
Soresby catches the shotgun snap.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
He's looking to throw.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
Floats it high and deep downfield. Good even a catch
racing to the forty thirty twenty fifty.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Ten five touchdown.

Speaker 8 (28:40):
Fair Cats eighty two yards and in case you're wondering,
no penalty flags.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Unbelievable. What a throw from Brendan Soarsby. He's been all
a couple times today on that deep ball. Couldn't place
it any better on that one. They took the aggressiveness
of Biawa State, especially on the back end the safety
comes up good, he gets over the top, Soresby lays
it up and the rest is history. What an unbelievable

(29:09):
throw at the biggest moment in the game from Brendan Soresby. Hey,
that sounds like a win Schuler's call of the day.
That sounds like a win Schuler's call of the day.
Thanks to our friends at Win Schulers and their four
fantastic cheese spreads which are perfect for your tailgate, get together, holiday,
get together, whatever it may be, make Win Schuler's part
of your night or day, or party or morning. Maybe

(29:32):
you're a morning cheese guy, maybe you're a morning cheese woman.
Whatever it is, Win Schulers has what you need. I
love Dan's call on that because he made sure to
mention there was no flags at one point, after Matt
Campbell was flagged for going after an official, they called
a penalty on seven straight place against the Bearcats. Seventh

(29:54):
straight amazing. Never seen anything like it. But the Bearcats
overcome that, find a way to get a win and
and put themselves in a good position here in the
Big twelve.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
Give a shout out to our guy Jim Kelly. Yeah,
praying for him obviously. The news came out. Jim announced
dealing with a cancer battle and is going to be
missing the rest of the season in the booth, So
praying for Jim. I know he listens to the show,
loves the show, and we love him. So hope you
feel better, Jam right, I said this weekend.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Jim is the name Kelly at the University of Cincinnati,
from his dad to Jim to the Hall of Fame.
His name to me means excellence at the University of Cincinnati,
and as high as I hold him on the football
side of things, I hold him even to higher as
a person, genuinely one of the greatest and nicest people

(30:42):
you'll ever meet. And our thoughts and prayers are certainly
with Jim Kelly as he goes through his battle right now,
and we wish him nothing but the best and there
for him every step of the way. Let's take some
phone calls. Let's allow folks to get some stuff off
their chest. Let's start with Jeff.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
What's up?

Speaker 4 (31:01):
Jeff happy?

Speaker 9 (31:03):
If we'd won the on side kick Monday?

Speaker 3 (31:05):
Jents, Well, you know, if we'd have won the on
side kick, Jeff, Zach Taylor thinks we're winning that game
for sure.

Speaker 9 (31:14):
Is he on Io High School with Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Or something I saw when I when I heard that quote,
I thought it was Ai. I thought it was Ai
generated John. Just you know, we're an onside kick away
from probably winning this game.

Speaker 6 (31:27):
Yeah, yeah, Well, I'm not going to count the weekend
as a total loss. The Yankees are down o to
two because of all those rally killing home runs. Arch
Manning lost again. So there's some bright sides of what happened.
But onto the lost side of the weekend.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
Who's more washed?

Speaker 6 (31:47):
Ted Carrott, Ted Harris or Logan Wilson.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
Manichach Taylor?

Speaker 10 (31:54):
Maybe?

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Yeah, I think still at this point Carris's play has
just been so poor. But but it's pro probably closer
than I would think.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
Do you think Logan Wilson just does not sit out
Golden's scheme?

Speaker 3 (32:07):
I don't know, because when Al Golden was originally here,
Logan Wilson was fantastic as ane as a linebacker when
Al Golden was coaching him. So maybe it's a scheme.
But as Austin said, nothing about the scheme makes sense
because you got defensive ends dropping into coverage and you
got coverage linebackers that aren't being used in coverage.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
None of it makes sense right now?

Speaker 6 (32:27):
Well, and when they ran the wildcat with gofit wide receiver,
why didn't they call time out? Nobody knew what was
going on on that play. Yep, it's just easy call
a time out and let it reset, let him know
that you know what's coming. So and then my second
thought is there is a waiting list for season tickets
supposedly right, yes, do we know if they offer those

(32:47):
people the first right to buy unused season tickets?

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (32:52):
I don't know that. I don't think so. I think, yeah,
that was yesterday.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
Out against Pittsburgh, maybe even worse than yesterday.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
I'm worried about the Pittsburgh crowd with how bad that
was yesterday.

Speaker 6 (33:06):
Yesterday was the worst I've ever seen it. It was
just I hope Mike or Katie was sitting in the
owner's box looking across the field at all that blue
on the visitors side. I know they don't care, But
can't we donate unused tickets the youth football programs or
programs that went to the states last year or something
that It seems to make sense to me, but we

(33:31):
know they don't think. What sense down there all the time.
So all right, let's get on to everybody else who
has something to say.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Thank you, Jeff, I appreciate that. Let's go to John,
Let's go to Boston.

Speaker 9 (33:41):
What's up John, Tony Austin, Good afternoon, How are you good?

Speaker 2 (33:46):
How are you good?

Speaker 9 (33:47):
We're hanging in there or hanging in there now. I
have one suggestion. First of all, there are internships available, correct,
So why not have Brendan Swiersby played for the bear
Cats on Saturday as on Sunday?

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Like this?

Speaker 9 (33:59):
I like this, you know, let's not forget that. Jake
Browning in one hundred and twenty four passing attempts this
year eight interceptions, Joe Burrow in six hundred and fifty
two passing attempts last year nine interceptions. So obviously a
downgrade in quarterback to say the least. But I think
we could pin a lot of this on Zach Taylor,
a lot of it on Duke Tobin. But it has
to start with ownership, just the relative cheapness of the organization.

(34:22):
I remember last week you and Moe were talking about
how Denver was susceptible to running backs coming out of
the backfield catching passes. I'm not sure if the Bengals
knew that, because we heard a big story in the
offseason that they double their analytics staffs from one to two.
Now you're going against a bunch of teams like the
Eagles and the Ravens and the Chiefs that have twenty

(34:43):
twenty two to twenty four members of an analytics staff.
So you're playing from behind when it comes to those
types of things. So obviously they have to spend more
money there. I think in a macro aspect, they need
a football zar, you know, someone who can come in
run the football program, general manager, coach, fully staffed coaching staffs,

(35:04):
scouting staffs. But that's not going to happen. That's not
going to happen because this is the one team and
I have this some pretty good sources, guys who cover
the league, that this is the one team that before
the season starts says we are going to make seventy
five million dollars or we're going to make eighty million
dollars and then goes from there. So you can't win
when you have that type of method. Going forward and
looking at Zach Taylor and I'll tweet these out to

(35:27):
you tomorrow eight and twenty six without Joe Burrow is
a quarterback. That's twenty four percent winning percentage forty five
thirty two and one, which is nearly sixty percent winning
percentage with Joe Burrow is his quarterback. Now, when we
talk about head coaches guys, right, they usually fall into
two categories and tony who played the game. You have
the Dan Campbell, Mike Grabel, Demiko Ryans, the former players

(35:49):
who come in the room, big strong guys have a
presence of the CEO type coaches. Or you have the
brainy acts who are the ex's and o's guys. I
don't know where Zach Taylor fits. He's certainly not a
motor he doesn't, you know, remind you Dan Campbell in
the least. And I don't really find it would be
all that brilliant with x's and o's. So I what
exactly does he offer the head coach?

Speaker 3 (36:09):
So to me, that was one of the questions because remember,
and I think I don't have the quote directly Austin,
but Jamar Chay said something last week along the lines
of we need more fire and anger, and I find
myself wondering who delivers fire and anger on this staff.
I don't think it's Zach, I don't think it's Al Golden,
and I wonder from which players it comes because for

(36:30):
players it's unique because you have to be able to
be a leader, but your play also has to reflect that.
Like I think Ted Carris can be that guy. But
if Ted Carris has harpened on players to play better
or do their job, the players are going to say, well,
do your job. What do you harpen on me for?
And you're not doing your job? So I like that
Jamar says we need more fire and anger. I just
don't know who it comes from.

Speaker 9 (36:53):
Does it come from someone other than the quarterback? I mean,
obviously the quarterback can provide that, but if that's not
in his DNA's person, then that starts what's going to happen.
I always think it comes from the offensive lineman. And
then you can talk about it all the time. When
you played at the University of Cincinnati's at Jason Kelsey
was the guy that basically had everybody fired up for
the game, right, it usually comes from the offensive line

(37:13):
or even the offensive line coach, who you know sometimes
are a little bit, you know, a few cards short
of a full deck. But nonetheless, the motivators of the team,
well the special teams coach. I don't even get any
of that, and it sound like a broken record, But
when I saw the play against Jacksonville where the ball
slipped out of Burrow's hand, he chased it because it
wasn't sure if as an incompletion or a fumble. He's

(37:34):
the only guy that chased the ball. They did recover it.
It was called it in completion. He stood up and
got cheap shotted from behind by someone on Jacksonville, and
not one offensive lineman came to his defense. You picture
if that happened to you at the University of Finnatti
with Jason Kelsey would have done.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
It wouldn't have and if it did, and I respect it,
he would have probably got a fifteen yard penalty on
top of it for going after someone that did.

Speaker 9 (37:55):
That good, because that's but yes, you want that. Kyle
Turley took someone's helmet off because they keep shot and
Drew Brees like, is there a disconnect with Joe and
the offensive line. I can't see that. Yeah, I mean
when we saw the quarterback on Netflix, he has them.

Speaker 6 (38:11):
Over his house.

Speaker 9 (38:12):
He gave them those beautiful Samurai so ones, which are
kind of laughable considering none of those guys play like samurais.
But I just, you know, I just don't understand that.
And then I still think it starts from the top guys.
If they're not going to invest in the franchise, this
is where you're at. You've basically been a five hundred
team since two thousand and three, and you've only had
two head coaches, the same amount as Pittsburgh and Baltimore,

(38:35):
one more than the Patriots during that time, and those
teams have won a total of Bay Super Bowls. And
the Binalds are five hundred teams since two thousand and
three with two head coaches. And he's not going to
get fired because if Borrow doesn't come back, ownership will say, well,
we lost our quarterback, let's run it back next year.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
I hope that's not the crutch, but I could see
that also being the crutch if things don't get better.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
John, Thank you, man, appreciate the call. All right, fellas,
let's grab one more then we'll grab a break. What's up, Dante, Hey,
what's up?

Speaker 9 (39:03):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (39:03):
I got a new name for your show. We're gonna
call it the TNA. So anyway, I got some things
to fix the real kick big dollar. First off, get.

Speaker 6 (39:13):
Rid of that.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
Go get Joe Brady from the Buffalo Bills. He was
Burrow and Chases coordinator. Lsu helped out because he knows
how to make your work. Joe Brady, what do you
think about him?

Speaker 5 (39:27):
Chris Collinsworth had some critical words for Joe Brady last night.
That offense kind of stalled out, but I'd be open
to it. I think he's one of those guys that
you would have to consider. I mean, I think right now,
like three names that immediately come to mind. Jeff Hafley,
the defensive coordinator the Green Bay Packers, Joe Brad, Joe
Brady in Buffalo. I think Doug Peterson is an interesting one.

(39:47):
I don't know if I'd go with him, but yeah,
I mean yeah, I think you would have to at
least consider Joe Brady.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
Okay, and it's sad too when your star receiver leaves
the team that tackles during one point, it's not good.

Speaker 9 (40:02):
That's really bad.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
And also, okay, fellas and I got this thing, and
please nobody get mad at me, ipset, but I got
a wait, a solution to help us out. As far
as like the quarterback situation. We know Joe's coming back.
He's had four surgeries in four years. Honestly, with the
way we go on the team, I hate to say
I love Joey, my idol, but he's not gonna make
it ten years. So let's do like Aaron Rodgers Jordan

(40:24):
Love situation. Go ahead, call the Browns, give him a
four hundred five Shuder and just sit. So you're gonna
sit for two to three years. Learn the system. That way,
we got somebody mobile. Then when our line doesn't block,
won't get killed because Jacob Snate. You know that that
that played at the end of the game yesterday. I
think that was Alando that let that lineman get right
past him. I didn't think he was getting up from

(40:46):
that hit.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
Yeah, the the hits are continuing. The old line play
is not much better. Dante, thanks for the call. I
don't think I'm ready to package the picks yet. I
don't think I'm ready to pull the plug on Joe yet.
We gotta well, yeah, no, we're not gonna. I think
he was saying, go get shit or for Joe's ultimate demise, everything.

Speaker 5 (41:07):
Should be on the doors out of I don't think
he's that mobile either. Everything should be on the table, sure,
I don't know if that should.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
Yeah, we got a lot to sort through. Let's finish
up our number one. We come back as we get
into our number two, we'll grab more of your phone
calls as well before talkback. So hang with us, Chad,
hang with us, Mark and anyone else. Five one, three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty The Monday midday Quarterback ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
See What's going on in baseball?

Speaker 3 (41:34):
Getting ESPN is fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Me not alone, Nick, A strong mind. I gotta have
some fun tonight.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
Man.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
This season continues the way it is, we're gonna be
pouring a lot of drinks. I agree with that, a
lot of drinks. When do we start talking draft?

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Boy? Bye? Yeah? Did he get the does he get that.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
Far sooner rather than later? Unfortunately, it's going to be.
That's gonna be a lot of draft talk.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
Not a fan of that. I'm not excited about that
coming down.

Speaker 3 (42:14):
Did you echo Zach Taylor's feelings at the end of
the game there that that if you recover that on side,
do you think you win the game.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
Sure, okay, why not?

Speaker 3 (42:22):
Do you echo his sentiment that that there's still trust
and belief in Jake Browning? Uh No, you think the
locker room believes in that.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
I have a couple of Zach Taylor's sound bites. Do
you want to use those now?

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Or please? Next segment?

Speaker 4 (42:34):
No?

Speaker 3 (42:34):
Please? Okay, here's here's the first one. Okay, here's the
or actual soundbites. This is not a this is real.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Okay.

Speaker 11 (42:40):
I gotta do a better job getting this into a rhythm.
Get us away where we can sustain some drives, put
points on the board. There's some place he's gonna want
to have back. I'm glad he hung in there. He
made some place force down the stretch. Three straight touchdown
drives at the end of the game. I'm sure a
lot of people wanted him on the bench at that point.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
I could hear it.

Speaker 11 (42:58):
And you stuck with him, and he comes back and
has three straight drives for touchdowns, And that's that's the
Jake Browning. I know he's resilient.

Speaker 3 (43:05):
Thoughts that to me sounds like gain some confidence as
the game went on. We're gonna roll that into next week.
Status quo. Don't need to make a change, all right,
here's number two.

Speaker 4 (43:15):
I do.

Speaker 11 (43:16):
I of course, after a game like that, we're gonna
look at all personnel to make sure we're doing the
right thing. So I won't shy away from that because
it's a very fair question after the amount of turnovers
we have.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
But to say that, I don't think Jay can win
games for us.

Speaker 11 (43:29):
I believe Jake and win games.

Speaker 6 (43:30):
Force I do.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (43:32):
I don't either, very simply what I don't believe he
can win games. I don't believe he can beat the Packers.
I don't believe he can beat the Steelers. Hell, at
this point, I don't know if he can beat the Jets. Sobering,
you know what this is leading up to. You know
the Jets through five weeks do not have a single
takeaway yep, and they may not for the next They'll

(43:56):
have two weeks, they'll have a season's worth. Glenn said
after the game yesterday. We gotta keep doing what we're doing,
and they're gonna come. They're gonna come in bunches. Okay,
October twenty six, and be honey, bunches of votes at
the stadium on that night. If Jake Browning is still
the quarterback. On October twenty sixth Nikes, yikes, that would

(44:17):
mean one of two things.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
One neither were good.

Speaker 3 (44:21):
He caught fire against Green Bay and Pittsburgh and the
season might be back on or two, Brett Ripping, Mike White,
and Sean Clifford all got.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
Hurt, Yeah or sick. Couldn't make the trip.

Speaker 4 (44:36):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (44:36):
Either way, that wouldn't you feel if you're Mike White
walking in there? What am I doing here? My agent
said this was a good choice. What are we doing?
I don't know?

Speaker 3 (44:47):
And again I don't know how you you go forward
with where you're at and keep its status quo. I
hope that's just coach speak, but my goodness, it was
rough to watch. Our two is next? Your phone calls
more on the Bengals, and we'll look around at a
busy day in the National Football League. Right here on

(45:08):
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station thanks to Skyline.

Speaker 10 (45:11):
