(00:57):
We are here in the morning preempting Clinton Yates and company.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
There's a lot to talk about. Let's set the scene.
On Monday.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
We had rain, we had clouds, we had lightning, we
had an ejection. We had to hike up by seventy
one to finish up the show. No such concerns.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Today.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It is hot, but only one or two clouds in
the sky. Should be a great morning here, an eventful morning,
a newsworthy morning perhaps as the Bengals go through another workout.
We do have some news to report, and it's not
necessarily related to Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I think it's the hottest day of camp. I think
it's the hotest day camp so far. Good day for
you and I to wear black and that's like dark gray.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
I think we're seeing our first VET day too. Logan Wilson,
No go for Logan Wilson. Looks like a VET day today.
Also as I was getting credentialed today. So Drake Kirkpatrick, Wow,
wonder if he's coming into workout wow or just watch
practice today?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I guess is the latter. Lucas Patrick has suited up
for practice.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
He won our award for first one out today.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
So congratulations to Lucas. I think, especially if you read
Paul Danner Junior's piece in The Athletic, this news will
come as no surprise.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Zach Moss was put today.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Suffered a broken neck last year, was cleared, has not
participated in any practice, had been working out on the
rehab field. He has been let go by the team.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
So that was always a weird one in the offseason
because the season ending you almost assumed he's not going
to be back. Yes, and then they brought in p Ryan,
and then they drafted TODs Brooks Yeah, and then it
just kind of felt like, yeah, the writing's on the wall. Yeah,
and then he was still here and you're thinking, could
they keep four running backs on the roster? It always

(02:32):
felt like it was a a three man group, and
obviously that's the move that was made.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I make that happen. I had Paul on the show yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
My take was like, as a guy, like as a
human being, like, dude, you had a broken neck, right,
you've got two kids, Yeah, go be with your family.
Like he's made nine to ten million dollars in the NFL.
I certainly can understand it's hard to walk away. I
could admire anybody who's trying to give it a go
after what he went through, But like, yeah, dude, like
you had a broken neck.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
He's different than like a broken forearm or you've made
your money injury. Yeah, you've got a two year old,
a two month old, you got a.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Wife, Like, go go be a dad and so Zach
Moss I would imagine his football days are over. Had
a good career and nothing but the best to him. Also,
Seth McLaughlin center has been cleared to practice. He had
been placed on the non football injury list. So we've
got those items for you. It is a gorgeous morning here.

(03:27):
We have not yet laid our eyes on Trey Hendrickson,
but we found out about what's six point thirty last night.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Well, I am seeing from Kelsey Conway that he is
walking across the street thirty seconds ago.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Okay, so he's gonna come on out here. Has he dressed?

Speaker 4 (03:42):
It looks like he's actually got team gearon.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Okay, but he's not going to practice.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
He's not going to practice. I think we should use
this time to put an open invitation out if he
wants to come sit down here with us and get
anything off his chest. Sure, he's welcome to come over
here to the media tent. He's had a lot to
say this offseason. He's had a lot to say.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Let me ask you.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Question, if if Pat McAfee were sitting here, you think
Trey would make his way over absolutely?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Okay, Well, here we are. If Trey has anything he'd
like to say, but he's here.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
I think it was interesting because yesterday I had the conversation,
does does the distraction possibility outweigh the importance of just
him being on the field when these young players come off, right,
you know, because yeah, he's here, He's gonna draw a
lot of attention. But I also think there is value
when you talk about Murphy and Osai and Shamar Steward

(04:29):
and the rest when they come off the field after
an eleven on eleven or a one on one rep.
I think there's value if Trey's willing to do it
as a leader and hopefully a captain to maybe give
these some input of hey, why don't you try this
or stand next to al Golden to make sure you're
getting an understanding while you're not practicing. Right, I do
think there's a value in him being here, and I

(04:51):
think you're you're gonna hopefully see that with the young guys.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, you know, Jamar Chays didn't practice last year. You
may remember, but by all account he was still engaging
with his teammates.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Yeah, he watched every single drill.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
He was still talking with some of the other wide
receivers he was actively engaged in meetings. He just in practice.
Now I think there was fallout to him not practicing.
If you watch the first game, you saw that fallout.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
But he was involved. Is Trey going to be involved?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Like, there's lots of questions about this, so let's let's
start with I think the obvious. Does Trey showing up
mean that they're any closer to getting a deal done?

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
It's weird because I think it can go two polar
opposite ways. I think he showed up because maybe they're
close getting a deal, or maybe he feels like they're
no closer and he's eaten fifty thousand dollars a day
and it's like it's just not worth it. Because in
his mind, maybe he thought, Okay, if I leave, maybe
that'll prompt this to speed up. If it hasn't sped up,
if they're not any closer, then he says, well, screw it,

(05:49):
I'm coming back because I've now lost two or fifty
thousand dollars. Or you do come back because you feel
like you're close and you want to start ramping things up.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
I mean, I don't think I realized this until this morning.
I read Mike Florioprofootball talk dot Com, who writes that,
like that fifty k per day, which it's five practices. Yeah,
so he's out a quarter mill. The Bengals can't waive that.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, it's not an option.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Trey's got to write a check for two hundred and
fifty thousand dollars.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
So like that. There's a part of me. Trey has
talked often about his wife.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
I just wonder if like his half was like, wait
a minute, so you mean to tell me by you
being here with me in Jacksonville today, that's fifty k. Yeah,
like we're we're holding out for more money, but we're
gonna spend that kind of coin, which you might go,
it's dropping the bucket for them.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Dude, it's fifty thousand dollars per day.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
That's not nothing. So you wonder if it was. Dude,
I'm not I'm not gonna get fined anymore. I'm not
running up the tab. I'm gonna go ahead and show
up and do the bare minimum. But then there's also
this look. The last time Trey Hendrickson was at a
Bengals organized team activity, he walked over to just to
our left and talk to all those members of the media.

(06:54):
And this isn't a criticism, it's what he did. He
made it about himself, and even Joe Burrow acknowledged that's
a distract. I think by you know, Trey doing what
he did that day in May, the message was I'm
going to be a distraction. And so is Trey going
to show up and not talk and let the process
play out and be actively engaged with his teammates or

(07:16):
for a guy who has done a lot of talking
about his contract, does does he grant stand some more?
Does he use the occasion of training camp and everybody
here to talk about his contract some more and in
essence be a distraction? How much of a distraction is
Trey going to be?

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, I think that's fair.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
I think you can also say he's he's ahead of
the court because he's actually wearing something that has a
Bengal logo on it.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Today.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Might not have a t time book for later. It
is hot, a little bit warm. It's hard to get
a last minute tea time at some at some.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Places we got referees are here today. Wow, refs are
warming up.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I believe if we're as to where we're sitting straight
across the field. Is Trey Hendrickson standing talking to a
coach right now might be the new d line coach
for the Cincinnati Bank. But it feels again like this
is a positive step. Now, Yes, we are we saying
the same thing after today's practice. Does Trey talk? What

(08:10):
is the tone if he does talk? I think that's
fair to say. But you already see the buzz as
we're sitting here with the media around us. There's a
buzz with the media. Tray is back, and it's kind
of the last piece that everyone is now waiting on of.
If you get this done, you seem to be all
all signs moving forward right now on the offseason or
into training camp, into the season.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
If you believed, as many of us do, that it's
simply a matter of time before the two sides come
to an agreement, then you acknowledge he was going to
have to show up at some point. And so this
is that point. And it means that Tray's not gonna
get fined anymore. And it means that if he chooses to,
he can have a positive impact even if he's not
necessarily practicing. So I'm interested in how that plays out. Look,

(08:52):
I mean, we've been here for four of the five practices.
The overwhelming theme has been that this is a business
like camp. Yeah, and a distraction free camp. Even the
Shamar Stewart thing had a quick resolution. It really didn't
feel like it was hovering over the start of camp.
Everybody who has been here for any of these workouts

(09:13):
has talked about the contrast from last year or last
year there were distractions, there were side shows.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
This has been different. Does that continue? Does that continue?

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Even with Trey who has and again this isn't a criticism,
it's what it is. His contract situation and the way
he has handled this have side show potential.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Do he and the team.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Avoid all that? It's I think you do? Of what
I think again, I think there's more value in Tred
being here and at least helping other players than him
not being here. Well, if you want to be a captain, yeah,
it's true. What I always think is weird, though, is like,
what are the conversations he's having right now because everyone
knows the elephant in the room he's want a different contract?

(09:55):
Is it business as usual? Are you just able to
kind of put everything aside and just be teammate and
talk to coaches and talk to players. What are the
interactions with players? You know, are they positive? Are they
you know, stand your ground right?

Speaker 3 (10:08):
You know?

Speaker 4 (10:08):
What are those I always think that's fascinating because it's
part of the business and the team that you don't
really get the behind the scenes too. We were talking
before the show with Doug rossfelt about higher ground in
the Cincinnati Bearcats and a chance to come together and
build that culture.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Right.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
I'm always interested when you have a player or two
that is isolating themselves from that culture, what it's like
when they do show back up.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Well, you know, to me, there's professionalism in any profession.
You might have somebody who's not nuts about their working
conditions or who their boss is, or what they're getting paid,
or any number of things. But my expectation is always like,
if somebody shows up to work, you're there to do
your job, and you're there to be productive, and whatever
issues you may have related to your employment and your

(10:55):
situation that's on you to take.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Care of on time, that's not mine.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Yeah, and so I'll give Trey the benefit of the
doubt here and go all right. The contract issue is
what it is. It will probably get resolved. Hopefully it
does so in a way that benefits both parties, which
I'm guessing will be the case in the short term.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Since you're here, I expect professionalism.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
If I'm Zach Taylor, I expect a player in his
ninth NFL season who's a key part of our team.
Once he has decided to decided to show up here.
While you're here, I expect you to contribute, be positive,
be helpful, and be professional.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
And that was the thing you mentioned with Jamar Chase
last year. He was here, but he didn't try to
make it about himself. Yeah, like Trey when he showed
up in the offseason made it about himself. Sure, so
I do think like, obviously people are gonna want to
talk to Trey. Yeah when he talks. What is the tone?
Is it still stand offish or I'm happy to be here.

(11:54):
I'm excited about what this team can be. I got
a chance to see the guys today. I'm looking forward
to helping in any way I can, and I hope
that as soon as possible we have this worked out.
And I'm out here of practicing with the guys.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Because if you.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Say that, it's a different tone. If you have the
same attitude and the same tone that you had last
time you were here, then it does become an issue
from a team stamp.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
All he's got to say is I'm happy to be
here with my teammates. Y. I want to win a
Super Bowl this year. My agent's gonna work on it.
The goal is to stay in Cincinnati. I'm here to
help and that's all I got. Like that, that's all
he has to say. But again, like that would fit
in with the theme of this camp so far, which
has been professional distraction, free business like and so again,

(12:36):
if I'm Zach Taylor and Trey Hendrickson's going to show
up like dude, you've got your issues with the front office,
it's up to your agent to work on them. While
you're here in the team setting among your teammates. The
expectation is that you're a professional. How much you're willing
to help the younger guys, how engaged you with them,
you want to be man, that's entirely up to you.

(12:56):
But I expect you to be a positive member of
this football team. And I'm going to give Trade the
benefit of the doubt and assume that that's what he
is gonna do. We will see if that ends up
being the case. But it does go to show like
at the end of the day, man, they all cave.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
Yeah, well again.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
I mean dollars, right, Shamar Stewart. At the end of
the day, he got a little concession from the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
The dude caved.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Jamar Chase last year, say what you want about him
at the end of his hold in the dude caved
like they you know, no intention of playing under the
current contract, not going to show up.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Uh huh.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Sure.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
And you know, for so many of us, the expectation
has always been that on September the seventh, Trey Hendrickson
will be on the field for the Cincinnati Bengals. Whether
it's as a guy playing out his contract, a dude
who's gotten a short term pay raise, or a guy
who's gotten long term security, they all cave at some point.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Trey Hendrickson the latest I just the the biggest curiosity
for me is, you know, eight days ago now and
last Tuesday when he posts that picture. Huh did he
post that picture with the thought in mind that the
statement he's making will speed things up, and by speeding
things up, the contract would get done and all of

(14:08):
a sudden eight days later, he's like, well, we're we're
not anywhere closer. Yeah, I'm not gonna keep eating fifty
grand now, let's let's try our other strategy. Yeah, well,
you know, now, let me get to camp and let's
see what things are. Or maybe his agent has told
him like, dude, we're on the goal line here, Yeah,
go to Cincinnati. That's I think the biggest unknown. Are
we on the goal line? Or was there just not

(14:30):
enough movement that he's like, well, I'm I'm gonna have
to eat another two undred and fifty grands by the
time this is done. I'm going back to Cincinnati now.
And again, how he conducts himself now that he's here,
I think is going to be very telling of things
going forward.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
I mean my guess is Trey is kind of making
this up as we go along. Yeah, And that is
also not a criticism, but I think if you've you know,
go back a year and a half, he asked for
a trade, doesn't get it. You asked for the trade
thinking I'm gonna get something long term. Doesn't happen all
right this offseason as for a trade, and he shops

(15:07):
himself around a little bit he goes on media tours
that he didn't go on last year. He shows up
at at at OTA's, which, by the way, his agent
had no knowledge of, and grand stands a little bit
like I think to a degree, he's just he's pulling
whatever cards he can out of his hand to try to,
you know, force the other side to fold if lack
of a better way of putting in. I don't know

(15:28):
that it was that well thought out that said, Like
number one, Zach Taylor did tell him, dude, you're gonna
get fined like they they can and will find you.
Trey for some reason took exception to that, which doesn't
make any sense. But maybe the reality hit him of like,
all right, five days in that's huh, quarter of a mill.
If I don't show up tomorrow, that's three hundred. If

(15:50):
I'm not there on Thursday, god, that's three fifty. All right,
there's a practice next week. That's for like, I mean, dude,
it it adds up. And so did the reality hit him?

Speaker 3 (16:00):
All right? Financially this doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I just think of the young players, like I viewing
a quarterback mindset. Let's imagine that Joe Burrow was going
through this and wasn't a practice And Jake Browning and
Desmond Ritter are taking reps and their reps in and
they come over and they talk to a coach and
they go back out there and do it again. How
much different is it if they take their reps and
they come and talk to Joe Burrow in between their reps, right,

(16:22):
like for Shamar Stewart, for Miles Murphy for.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Something from Dez.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Yes, yeah, that's what he's trying to do. But I
I just when I when I think about the impact
that it can have on the young players, even if
Trey is not practicing, there is an extreme value in
that sure, And and I hope that that they at
least at the bare minimum while they're waiting on a
deal to get done. I hope they can get that
out of Trey Hendrickson being here. And like if I'm

(16:49):
Trey and I'm I'm out Golden. I talked to Trey like, hey,
don't don't leave my side, right, yes, yes, don't leave
my side because I value your input. I want your
input on what we're doing. But I can also explain
it to you as we go as to you know,
maybe what would be expected of you on this call
or hey, this is different than what you've done in
the past. Watch this technique, or watch this alignment, watch

(17:13):
this line game that they're running. That's where I think
there's just an immense amount of value of Trey Hendrickson
being here going forward.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, the expectation we talked about, like, the expectation is professionalism.
It's attached yourself to Al Golden and Shamar Stewart. Yep,
Hey man, we've got this rookie. He's got some catching
up to do.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Trey.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
If you're not going to practice, that's fine, But we
need this guy to be a sponge and we need
we need you to help him. Soak up every bit
of knowledge that you could pass along to him, and
you could be a conduit for Al Golden. Right, you're
the best player from a defense that he inherits like,
help us, help us make this We talked and made

(17:52):
fun of the idea of him being a captain. To me,
that's what a captain does. All right, look Al, you've
got to remake this defense. I'm one of the few
known come ones you have. Let's make this transition easier. No,
I'm not on the field. Yes, I've missed a lot
of time, but I want.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
To help you.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah, and to me like, that's that's a reasonable expectation.
And so I hope as the next few days unfold,
that's what we start to hear about. And then in
the background, hopefully Trey's agent and the Bengals can get
rid of, you know, the room that separates themsel the
two parties in regards to the contract, in regards to
the guaranteed years and all that other stuff.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Do you think we get a golf cart ride today
from Mike Brown with Trey Hendrickson?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Well, is that in the future that would be interesting? Yeah,
in Mike Brown.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
Hopefully the park it right in front of us here,
Mike Brown, sit him down, put him on the golf cart.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Yeah, you know, I take a ride. Well, talk about life,
take a ride. Hey, bring that check book with you, Trey? Yep,
you owe me a two hundred and fifty k Okay.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
I can't even imagine having to write that.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Check, could you? Like? What are the options? Is Venmo? PayPal? Yeah,
check Zell cash? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Probably, Well they probably get a discount with cash.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
I mean, I would imagine he doesn't need payment plan,
but is a payment plan available.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
I just can't imagine having to write that check because
I decided it was better for me not to show up.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Someone.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Just the conversation between me and my wife, right, could
imagine like if I was at home and it's like, yeah,
I'm not going to work today. Okay, you enjoying the
beach by not going to work today. I have to
pay my employer now. Yeah, Like she would go back
up and go, huh, I'm not going with you. I'm
gonna stay on the beach, get to work. Yeah, we're
fine here, right, We're good. You need to go figure

(19:28):
your own stuff out. I maybe he thought, like when
Zach Taylor told him, hey, they can find you, maybe
he thought he was kidding.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Yeah, maybe he should have worked on the details.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
A little bit.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Do you get like a daily email like hey, trade
and come to work today.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
That's cool, fifty k Yeah, that's a tough, tough one.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
That's that's a tough one to swallow.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
No question, night, it is nineteen minutes after ten o'clock.
What do we want to describe? What's going on in
the fields in front of us right now?

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Special teams right now they are they're punting. Okay, it
is a. I believe ricos in and on about the
fifty yard line. So they are trying right now just
to work on gunners, uh, to be able to come
and close in on a punt returner. And for the
punt returners, you're deciding which punch you field and which
ones you try to let bounce.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Okay, yeah, because you.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
See it every year some guy fair catches the ball
in the four yard line. You're like, what are we
doing one of my biggest pet peeps. Yes, that's what
we're trying to iron out right here by cutting the
field in half.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
And speaking of punt return guys, Jermaine Burton is on
the field.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Still beautiful, right down to the two. So they're practicing
downing the ball right there, Yes, right in front of
the goal line. Yep, Well they're placed. Returner has a
choice based on the yardage. We were always taught to
ten yard.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Lining in right. Uh, put your feet your head yep. Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Jermaine Burton is not I think he was just normal
twe Well. I think he just had the beach towl confiscated. Wow,
and he has been given a normal.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
These referees are already imposing there.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
I think so I think that's what it was. I
think the reff was like, dude, you can't wear that.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I also just saw Joe Daniman use a whole bottle
of sunscreen over there.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Look at him. He used a whole bottle. I don't
blame him.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
You know it's hot outside. When Daneman's got shorts on.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
He's got my complexion.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Yeah, I go through a whole bottle too, Yes, I
mean now, the veteran move would be to put a
hat on.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
You know, Joe has a thicker, fuller head of hair
than me. But I just saw there's some skin up there, exposed.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
I just saw the Ohio sportscaster of the Year use
a whole bottle of sunscreen.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
And not offer to anybody else.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
No, because he's look at this and he's got a
sign for you.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
These TV, these TV people are competitive. Wow, yep.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Happy gilmour Io sucks. He says, I have yet to
see you. Tonight is the night. It's gonna be tonight,
I promise, because I don't have to work tomorrow. It's
gonna be a night, all right. It's he has no
sunscreen left, no sunscreen left. It's that bottle is gone.
He used a whole bottle Joe. They make hats now,
just that's right, very good, put a hat on, all right.

(21:53):
It's twenty one minutes after ten o'clock. That is the
Ohio Sportscaster of the Year.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Sportscaster of the Year in the State of Ohio. Man uh,
it's looks like Lebron now A. E. Dorn Window, TONI
and Mo Football Show. We are doing this until twelve
noon since E three.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Sixty at twelve. Yes, I'll be on from three to
six today. A lot of ground to cover all day long.

forty five and five forty five. We want to thank
Oakley Greens. I want to thank Tove t Oph five

(22:30):

course we are broadcasting from the Airport Pain and Body
Broadcast area. It's twenty two after ten o'clock the A. E.
Dorn Window, Tonya Moo Football Show on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Hi Zoey Soldna, Welcome to team our ESPN fifteen thirty
Orange and Block Hotline is built by Racing Claire Roofing
your Homes Trusted Problem Solver.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Twenty six After ten o'clock, it's the AE, Door and
Window Tony and Moe Football Show live from.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
We're live Bengles training camp.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
These officials are in midseason falls, so I.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Was gonna ask you about that. Said, the officials do
this around the league. They come to different training camp practices.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
On a surface level, we all know what they're doing, right,
but granular level when they're talking with players, what are.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
They telling anything from you know, alignments to what would
be considered different penalties, what you can get away with.
But you know, for the most part, they're here just
to make sure logistically you're doing things the correct way,
like a you know, we always talk I think in
today's football, I don't I don't remember the name of

(23:44):
the tackle for Kansas City, but he essentially lined up
in the backfield every po oh yeah, yes, And I
think on a day like this, you're pretty much seeing
how much you can get away with if you're a player.
All right, if I step back a half step here,
because the officials are they're taught to call this like
they would a game call, holds, call, fall starts, anything
that what you would call in a game, you have

(24:05):
to call out here because it gives the players a
little bit of understanding. It's big for receivers to make sure, Okay,
are you on the line, are you off the line?
You know? Are you lined up properly each play. It's
just a logistic benefit here now for the team to
have them here, because you just add another layer of
what you're trying to do. And I think it's important

(24:26):
that you do it coming off of an off day yesterday,
because people just assume off day, Okay, the guys get away. No,
they're still here, they're meeting. But yesterday is one of
those opportunities to catch up mentally, because we talked about
it's such a whirlwind as this goes, and especially young players,
you never feel like you're caught up. The off day

(24:47):
yesterday is essentially the first time to take a breath
and ask any questions you may have from the install
that's already happened, and then you'll start to install more.
But it really does give you a good opportunity to
iron out any of any questions you've had, what has
not felt great, what does feel good that you've that
you've done, and then go into a day like today,

(25:08):
the expectations are raised. If you're coming off and off
day where you have a mental understanding of what's going on,
then you better be sharper today. You better be lined up,
you better cut down on the mental airs, things like that.
So it's it's not just off day. These guys are ready. Yes,
you're recovering physically, you're getting off your feet a little bit,
but the mental side is an awesome time to catch

(25:29):
up and to try to even get ahead for some
of these players going in now to the next portion
of camp.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yeah, I mean this would be where I would start
to like, you know, work in the officials because you
might have them later in the season, you know, develop
that relationship so I can get a call and what
can I do for you something like that.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
Yeah, that's a director of common sense. It's a role
that you were born for.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Yeah, the director of common sense would encourage these guys
before the season even begins.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
We often talk about with people, man, they were born
for that role. And the more I've known you just
feel like that I was born, that you were born
for that And we could still do this. Sure you
could put on one of the headset and be out
there talking to the guys.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Well, I think that would do a you know, you
talk about doing you know, two jobs, but like really
taking the listener inside.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
Who was it last year Willie Anderson? He came to
a practice yesterday and he was just like live streaming
on his social media, like the play call in the
huddle and everything right before. And someone eventually came up like, hey,
you can't do that. The NFL said you can't do that.
But he was just mosying around out there with his
phone up, just video and everything, and I'm like, man,
that's genius. I mean, you want to talk about some

(26:36):
behind the scenes stuff, go to his instagram, right, you.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Could be that, you know, but you and the Director
of common Sense, all I want to do is work
game days.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
I just I want to work seventeen.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
Well, today you'd be up there with Trey like, hey,
common sense says you probably should have done this about
four practices it go.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
The Director of common Sense would have reached out to Bo,
Trey Hendrickson and Shamar Stewart and said, like common.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Sense dictates, just you know, sience thing and.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
Show that's what was missing in these mediations.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Common sense, a good common sense mediator.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
Here's a line drawn in the sand. Here's a line drawn,
and then there's you right in the middle of the sand.

Speaker 5 (27:09):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
We've had some injuries that we have to talk about
in the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely,
who has you know, apparently been on the doorstep of
a contract extension. There is optimism that he will actually
be able to start the season, but right now he's
out with a fractured foot.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
Yeah. You you see across the NFL and you get
into this portion of where camps are at, you start
seeing it more and more. You've been going at it
for multiple days now, body is starting to wear down
a little bit. This is where you start to see
some of those camp injuries pop up. I know Cleveland
lost a corner as well achilles injury. He's out for

(27:48):
the season. So it is it's it's I was thinking
about this driving home yesterday. It's it's the part of
the game you can't control. Like and yes, you can
try training techniques and different things in the offseason, but
there are just freak injuries that happened and it makes

(28:08):
being successful that much harder. And to me, I know,
we hate talking about it here in Cincinnati, it makes
me appreciate the hell out of what Kansas City has
been able to do. Yeah. Sure, because they've dealt with injuries.
They figured out a way.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
And they have figured out.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
To me, what I admire about them is, you know,
first of all, that organization.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Started to interrupt.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
No, it was really good before Patrick Mahomes showed up.
But even in the Patrick Mahomes era, their team has evolved.
They have found ways to win offensively, even the ball
down the field. They have found ways to win offensively,
kind of taken a more conservative approach. They have found
ways to win with their defense, right, they have found
ways to win when they don't have a great offensive line.
I mean, to me, that's like, that's what we would

(28:45):
eventually want to see the Bengals do, right, just sustain
success where hey man, this particular season, you might have
a deficiency on defense, doesn't matter. Still win or this
particular year. And you know what, to a degree, we
saw it two years ago when Burrow got hurt and
Brown and kept them afloat.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
It's the value and it's the ability of teams and
organizations to sustain or to deal with negatives and still
overcome them, because let's face it, whether it's camp or
the season, guys are going to get injured. In the NFL,
it's too physical of a sport. They're moving faster than

(29:22):
they ever have and they're still trying to cut the
same way they always have. You're going to have injuries.
You're going to have guys that go down. The brilliance
of the teams that are consistently at the top is
the ability to say, man, this sucks, but we're going
to get through it. Whether it's a week, a month,
or the year, we're going to find a way through it.
And again, knock on wood, do whatever you need to do.

(29:44):
It's been a very clean camp from that standpoint for
the Bengals for right now. But you look across the NFL,
it's gonna happen, and what can you do if it
does happen to either keep yourself afloat or for some teams,
find a way to still throw.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
But it's also like you know, next Thursday night, it's
why I'll be washing through my hands.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
But it's like it is, it is.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
It's a necessary evil.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
We all acknowledge they should play more guys in the preseason.
Joe Burrow wants to play more in the preseason. Yep,
I understand that, and the Bengals should give him what
he wants. But there is nothing more deflating, like to me,
more deflating than a guy getting hurt in practice.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
There is nothing more deflating.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
And you know none of these guys are going to
play the whole game, but but you you brace for
that almost inevitability, and you you know, you obviously hope
if it has to happen, it's not number nine or
it's you know, not number one or not number five,
but you acknowledge they've got to play more guys in
the preseason. But you are assuming risk, and if that

(30:49):
risk turns out to be reality, there is nothing more
sobering than a guy who matters getting hurt in a
game that doesn't count.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
The worst thing about it is someone at the college
level that went through it. You know how hard they work,
you know the work that is put in by these players.
They're not taking time off, they're not you know, going
down their offseason, and just you think of Joe Burre's
just not going to the met gallon and avoiding workout
like you guys work their tail off and for the

(31:17):
most part, they are injuries that you can't avoid. It's
nothing you had to do it. So it makes it
so hard to see. And yes, it is the it
is the added risk of playing in the preseason, but
you you've got to think it, like for Joe Burrow
at this point in his career, there are enough ways
that you can protect him and you got to think

(31:37):
that he's not going to make the decision to pull
one down and run it for eight yards and try
to run somebody over. But I've always thought the preseason
was was interesting because we've heard this offseason too, Jamar
Chase come out and say, I don't want to play
in the preseason, Like.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
There are players that for that reason acknowledging that it
makes sense for him.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Somebody doesn't get it, but I don't want to. So
you understand both sides of it. But it is you
see it across NFL camps right now. It's a it's
it's inevitable that that it's going to happen. And you know,
the teams that are built from a depth standpoint or
a coaching advantage standpoint can overcome those.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Yeah, you know, I've watched I've watched good Bengals teams
figure out ways to navigate a training camp injury, and
I've watched bad Bengals teams have their season sunk because
of you know, some some injuries that took place during
training camp. You have to have depth, you have to
have you know, the right structure in place. So far

(32:31):
they have sidestepped that. Yeah, but like you know, you
see the Martin Emerson thing, and it's like, man, that
that can happen at any point.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Came at the end of practice, things are winding down,
as I likely came at the end of practice. When
things are winding down, it's all over the NFL. I
know the Dolphins suffered a loss from in their secondary.
So maybe that's why Drake Kirkpatrick's here today. Maybe he's
just getting back into the field of football. So if
a team needs him, he's ready to Drey, we can
look this up.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
Dre last suited up two thousand and twenty a.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Couple of years, all right, Yeah, it's been a couple alright.
Story career, good career, pick six, you.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Know, I mean maybe never like played to the level
of first round pick.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
But but but.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Played, you know, for had the iconic game against the
Denver Broncos. His last season in the NFL was twenty
twenty one. He played okay with the San Francisco forty
nine ers. Looks like he's in great shape. Played at
thirty five years old. Yeah, dude, I mean that guy
played one hundred and nineteen NFL game. Yeah, thirteen picks.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Can't take that away, No, not at all.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
All right, it's twenty three away from eleven o'clock. We
are broadcasting from Bengals training camp.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
It's the A. E. Dorn, Window, Tony and Moe Training.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Camp Show on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station Nationally.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
You know football.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Hi, this is Dan Horror joined Dave Lapham and me
for every play of every game on the official home
of the Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
It is nineteen away from eleven o'clock. It's the eighty
Door and Window Tony above.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Football showing broadcasting from Bengals training camp workouts unfolding right down.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
I just wanted to draw.

Speaker 6 (34:11):
Our audience's attention to the professionalism that we are mere
feet away under our tent witnessing Olivia Ray might remember
from News five Channel five stepped away from those duties
because she had a baby.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Yes, she is standing under our tent getting some shade,
holding her infant.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
Yeah, videotaping practice. Look at these other guys down there,
barely doing anything.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
You know, there was something to be said. There was
a picture floating around earlier this week, four or five
members of the media sitting on chairs. Yeah, you know,
just be be standing up, be professional. Richard Skinner, right,
been doing a long time. When he wants to sit,
he sits on the ground.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
Right. We don't need chay, what are we doing?

Speaker 2 (34:54):
I was gonna say, like, you know, one of them
could offer to hold the baby.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
But if you're Olivia, would you want any of them
holding in question?

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Out of all members of the media, Yeah, who would
you trust most holding your child?

Speaker 2 (35:05):
The person who's holding a child right next to us, Yes,
that's who.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Yes, Yeah, well.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
I saw James with the child earlier. I don't know
that I would.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
James has an infant, I mean, James has a newborn. Yeah,
so yeah, James would be the rest of them.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
I don't know who would be at the bottom of
your list. The trags is over there, Yeah, who to
drop the ball, you know, Danaan Danaman just because he's
got so much sunscreen on. Don't trust to to slippery.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
You know, I don't know. I think I trust Charlie.
I think I trust Danner.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Yeah, KB, I don't know, I don't KB went.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
But this is it's nice to see Olivia here. Just
this is an amazing amount.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Of Look, she's got the commitment. The thing that you wear.
I haven't worn one of those in a long.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
Time, called a holder, the holder, a baby holder.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Yeah, this is this is pretty neat quick. You know,
it's the Tony and Mo Football Show. Yeah, you want
to do two minutes on last Night's til it's at
the ballpark?

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Man, last night at the ballpark was one of those
days and nights that felt like it will carry a
heavier weight than just one loss, Like we have those
conversations earlier in the season a lot of Man, that
loss felt like one that counts as as two. And
with all the goodwill that this team has built by

(36:29):
sweeping the Rays, you think of if you just hold
on to that last night, you're now talking about today
going for a series win against the Dodgers, and now
it is can you salvage a win to avoid being
swept for the first time this year, and take away
the good will that you did be built up from
the rays it. I know that we can second guess

(36:51):
managerial decisions and win to pinch hit someone, and I
know we will it. It just felt like it was
there for the take your closer can't walk the ninth
place hitter in the night and the fact that they
can't walk the ninth places hitter twice in the last
three it's the fact that Alexis Diez got out of
the jam and gets to win that just makes it
hurt even more.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
I just I'm thinking I was at the game last night.
Austin was also at the game last night. Totally ignored me.
We're like ten feet away from each other.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
What was the feeling the ballpark when the Hendrickson news.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
Broke, I was across the street. We all just laughed.
But anyway, I'm thinking, like this is gonna be awesome.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Nicolodolo will have just stuck it to show Heyo time
golden sombrero.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Over four four punch outs. Even up the series, you
get a chance to at least keep up with the
keep pace with the San Diego Padres. Atmosphere at the
ballpark was really good.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Yeah, a lot of Dodgers fans, but like the atmosphere
last night felt like Pennett Race baseball. To lose a
game like that, you know, a million pagan. I've been
a million pagan guy all season long because he's been great.
But like your guy can't set the tone by walking
the lead off guy in the nine hole. Ellie Deayler
Cruz has to not drop a relay throw. Like there's
there's just so many things. I I can go back

(38:06):
and forth on pinch hitting espen All for Frailey, I
didn't love it. I understand that he's doing things by
the book. Frayley's bad against lefties, but just the whole
thing added up to that's a really hard loss because
it just what have they done all year long? Win
three and lose three, win two, lose to win three games,
and and there's no other teams between them and that

(38:28):
last wildcard spot. You lose the game the night before, fine,
but like now it's okay, we'll lose today and you
gave back what you gained against Tampa Bay. And if
you lose today or now that you're three out, which
is not insurmountable, but like, can you afford to be
four back?

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Can you afford to be five four back?

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Give the front office, the the wigger room to say no.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
In my opinion, not I agree, but for them sure
like that loss.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
You know, I said, the middle game of the Yankee series,
I went to, they walked them off, came back Chase
Burns first start, and like walking out was people were
just high five and strangers. Last night there was like
there was like legitimate, like you know, people were bummed
at the.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
Result, and yeah, it just felt devastating. It felt like
much more than just one of those losses. And again,
like the day before, as good as Chase Burns was, Yeah,
Yammoto has been fantastic. Yeah, like, okay, that's just a
great pitching performance. Would have love to have Ellie up
in the ninth with an opportunity, but my gosh, the

(39:33):
way Lodolo pitched again last night, and to have that
lead and to battle the way they did, only to
lose it that way, that's a that's a rough one.
And look, I'll give it to this team because they've
shown resolve all year. When we're ready to nail.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
In the do it again.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
They'll they'll find a way to win. Start too good
and they'll bring you back. And you know Hunter Green
pitched last night and yeah, maybe he's closer. So there,
I just want to to go get help. Well, I
want them to not just a player, not just I
want them to go. I want them to go all
in and try to make this happen this year. And
like agreed, And to your point, the city, Yeah, like

(40:12):
there's a buzz at the ballpark. Just watch on TV.
Like Ellie the other day when he hit the two out,
the single that scored two, that was insane on it
on TV. The sound that came through, the sound that
comes through on the radio. And that's against Tampa, who's
not traveling. They're not traveling. A bunch of fans, that's
Reds fans.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
John Sadak screaming at me.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
It's just TV. It was right there, and there's a
buzz in the city. And you didn't capitalize last.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
No again, it's you could say, well, it's just one loss,
but that one, like the game the other night, felt
like one loss last night because you're up four to two,
you bounce back from down to early and you're still
like we want them to get eu Hane as far
as want them to get to the biggest names available.
But if you look at the back end of this roster,

(41:01):
there's still room for guys who can maybe just help
off the bench. Connor Joe, it might be a really,
really nice guy. What are we doing?

Speaker 4 (41:09):
I mean your options? And Lance tweeted it last night
and I know re signs is up because Fredo's on
paternity but your options at the end of the game
for a team that's in the thick of a playoff race,
was re signs in Connor Joe.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
Yeah, And even like when you're when you decide we
want to pinch hit espinall for Freiley because we're gonna
we want to go right left. And Freley's had like
six at bats against lefties all so that I understand.
But then you're gonna put a third basement in right
field for a couple of innings. You acknowledge that's not
ideal because he replaces him with Connor Joe.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
But Connor Joe can't hit.

Speaker 4 (41:39):
Yeah, and I'll acknowledge I I think Ellie's phenomenal. I'm
now at the point with Ellie when the ball is
hit to him I'm nervous.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Yes, Oh, you hold your breath.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
The more he and and he, the more he takes
his time, the more I hold my breath every time
he's making a throw. And it happened again last night,
A little throw on a tough play.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
You've got to make that play, man, But you've got
to make that play.

Speaker 4 (41:58):
I love make you hold your breath. Yeah, that's it's
not where you want to be. You want confidence when
the ball is hit to a position player on the infield,
and you don't have that right now from a fielding
standpoint or a throwing standpoint.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
With Ellie Well, yet again, the person who's they've commissioned
to embroider the banner if they get through the entire
season without getting swept, is going to be on because
they don't get paid if they don't embroider the banner.
They can't embroider the banner if they get swept. Any
big one this year, So this is a huge game.

Speaker 4 (42:30):
It's a big one.

Speaker 3 (42:31):
Later tonight, it is.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Eleven away from eleven o'clock. We're at Bengals training camp. Practice.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
Has anything of note unfolded over the last few minutes?

Speaker 4 (42:41):
Nothing yet, We're on routes versus air. Now usually after
routes verse air is one of two things, one on
ones or seven on seven. All right, I'm hoping that
whichever one of those happens is right here in our
lap as well.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
A ight, very good. We are in the corner of
the end zone.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
Offense is wearing the black jerseys today as well. They
switched it out.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
They did switch it up field number one. All right,
it's ten away from eleven o'clock. AE Dorn Window, Tony

Speaker 2 (43:32):
Tony Pike is changing his angle just a little bit
to watch some one on ones. This is the part
of training camp that I have been looking forward to
the most offensive line versus defensive line with the pads
on is there anything that you could see, uh, that
you could pass along to us?

Speaker 3 (43:49):
Can you tell anything going on?

Speaker 4 (43:52):
The only thing you can see is that Trey Hendrickson
is actively talking to these young defensive linemen after their reps.
All right, good now, kind of got the worst of
both worlds here because wide receiver dB one on ones
are happening on the far field. Yeah, we are being blocked.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
There's a flag. There's a flag on the field too. Yeah.
If regis through a flag.

Speaker 4 (44:11):
We're being blocked. So the only thing we can see
is Peyton, Thorn and Desert are throwing passes to the
running backs and tight ends. Okay, but at least from
this vantage point, it does look like Trey Hendrickson, Like,
right now, Trey Hendrickson just walked into Shamar Stewart right
before this rep and talk to him. Okay, so maybe
some advice being exchanged, that's what you want to see

(44:32):
from Trey Hendrickson while he's here.

Speaker 3 (44:34):
Do you think Trey is asking him like, Shamart, did
you get fined? No? I wasn't under contract. I didn't
get fined.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
What's your check? Look like.

Speaker 3 (44:45):
Bengals said, they take Venmo. What's that it is? Cool.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
It is cool to see Trey. We talked about this
at the top of the show. If you weren't where
this Trey Hendrickson is here. He is not practicing, but
we were wondering, like, is Trey just gonna be here
just to be here and not get fine? Is he
going to be here and actually try to help? And
it looks from where I am sitting and where Tony
is standing that he is willingly offering advice perspective.

Speaker 4 (45:12):
Andre Josias just made a ridiculous catch down the field
and one on ones on the other field as well.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
Wow, you like seeing it.

Speaker 4 (45:20):
Brow looks like there's just a confidence that Burrow has
right now, like after his like he just throws with
such pop and all his movements are so precise. Yeah,
you could tell like he feels good, like everything about.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
Him contrary to everything else.

Speaker 4 (45:35):
Right Like there was a there was a rep earlier
where they were rolling out and he's just flipping his
hips and kind of falling away athletically. You can just
tell he's he's feeling good about where he's at right now.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
It's got to feel good about where he's at. He's
got to feel good about who he is. Throwing to
although he just uh overthrow Jamar Chase on the right side,
doesn't happen much. That doesn't have a good coming.

I take away everything I just said.

don't you get up and tell those guys to move?

(47:31):
Who would you start with at number seventy one?

Speaker 4 (47:34):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (47:34):
Yeah, a Mario because you want to go to the
biggest Yes, And I'm not gonna work my way up
and set the tone. Yeah, I go to a Marius
Mims and tell him like, dude, bro, I'm trying to
watch practice here, right.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
Yeah, there was. There were a lot of different things
happening really over the course of the break because you
had O line and D line one on ones happening
at the far end of the field, were on on
the opposite field, you had wide receiver dB one on
ones right, and then right in front of us, you
had tight end running backs versus linebackers now, no Logan

(48:05):
Wilson today that he's that day for Logan Wilson, Joe
Burrow and Jake Brown, for they were on the other
field throwing to the wide receiver. So you had Peyton
Thorn and des Ritter down here. I I am so
excited about the development and the leap for Chase Brown. Yeah,

(48:26):
watching him because it was talked about. Albert Brier wrote
a piece where he was here on Sunday about Chase
Brown and his approach in the offseason and wanting to
be a threat in the passing game, not just running routes,
but a pass protection threat that you don't have to
take off the field on third and seven and you know,
show your hand that you're you're gonna throw the ball

(48:48):
because you need a better pass blocker in some of
the routes he just put on. These linebackers should be
penalized for just filthiness. For what he was able to do.
I mean, he you feel bad. I mean and Dimitrius
nine and one of them had pretty good coverage. Chase
Brown made a contested catch. Other reps he completely separated
from the linebacker.

Speaker 3 (49:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (49:10):
We've talked about him a lot. I don't know if
we're talking about Chase Brown enough with what he can
be for this offense.

Speaker 3 (49:15):
Yeah, it's interesting.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
In the heart of the offseason when there was not
a lot to do, ESPN releases a bunch of lists
and so they were doing like top ten players in
every position, and Chase Brown was not listed among the
top ten running backs.

Speaker 4 (49:28):
He was an honorable mention.

Speaker 3 (49:29):
He was not an honorable mention. And then they did
like another category.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
I mean, like, okay, so I understand from a production standpoint,
if you look at the raw numbers, not a top
ten guy.

Speaker 3 (49:40):
That's fine.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Bengals last year didn't use him as much as they
should have early in the season. But if we were
to like do a draft of running backs to just
drop into this offense, I'm not taking twenty backs before
I draft.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
No Chase Brown.

Speaker 4 (49:56):
How could you not either, when you think about the
wide receiver and the numbers game that you have to
commit to the passing game, he should. He should get
favorable matchups. I trust him to win one on one.
I mean for so many years that was like the
Baltimore Ravens strategy, get people in space one on one
against the Bengals, if you get Chase Brown to the

(50:18):
second level, he's going to make the first guy miss,
and if not, he's going to lower his shoulder and
get a couple extra yards. He's that powerful.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
And you know this is something you and I talked
about during the season last year. But if if you
want to torture yourself and go re litigate the twenty
twenty four season, one of the first things we're gonna
do is talk about how they barely use Chase Brown
early in the season last year.

Speaker 4 (50:46):
Yeah, the first couple games, the snap count and the disparity,
like we thought going in, like okay, they're probably gonna
be fifty to fifty. I mean, he got a handful
of carries the first couple games. It was unbelievable. By
the way, they're asking a lot of Demetrius Night with
Logan Wilson today. They just asked him to cover Jamar
Chase on a crossing route. Didn't go well for Demitrios.
Demetrius Night is the learning day, big learning day for

(51:09):
Demetrius Night today going uh, you know, sliding in and
being the guy here. We we talked about not hearing
a lot from oron Burke's he's sliding in there today
getting more reps. So, of course, as we say that,
Joe Burrow was just completely completely swarm by about four
Bengals defenders. You know, one of those where in practice

(51:31):
you normally tag off and you still run the play.
Joe just had to eat it on that one. There
was pressure coming from all around Joe Burrow. So a
win for the defense on that one. But we're getting
in now to that. This is the exciting point about
camp because the pass rush and the pass protection is
more evident because they have pads on are you holding

(51:51):
up enough for Joe Burrow on these plays?

Speaker 3 (51:54):
The answer to the last one.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
Was a big You're you're arguably arguably dealing with the
two biggest questions about this team. Are they gonna protect
Joe Burrow better? And are they gonna rush the pass
or better?

Speaker 3 (52:08):
You know? And I mean, like.

Speaker 2 (52:11):
We could discuss Al Golden's secondary and you know, all
the different things the Bengals can do to make them
so impossible to prepare for. Offensively, none of it matters
if number one, they don't protect Joe, and none of
it matters to a degree defensively, if if the pass
rush isn't better than it was last year. They don't
need to lead the league in sacks, they don't necessarily

(52:34):
need to lead the need to lead the league in
pass rush win rate. But they have to be better
than they were last season. And so but you know,
we talked about this on the first day here Wednesday.
One of the common themes of Bengals training camp in
recent years has been how the Bengals offensive line in
drills like the one we're watching right now, is getting
its tail kicked.

Speaker 4 (52:51):
And if you're Al Golden and you're going intoday with
no hendrickson, Logan Wilson has an off day and you're
still to disrupt this offense, that's a win.

Speaker 3 (53:01):
Sure.

Speaker 4 (53:02):
I mean, you're you're playing young guys out there, Rookies
are getting reps. And for the most part, I thought
the defense, at least on that first session of team
held their own against the number one offense.

Speaker 2 (53:12):
Let's see Shamar Stewart, who had a good first day
of padded practice on Monday. Once they went inside the bubble,
Miles Murphy has a lot to prove. A lot of
those guys on the interior of that defensive line, guys
like Chris Jenkins have a lot to prove, you know,
Demetrious Night. I kind of liked the idea of him
kind of being thrown on an island without Logan Wilson, right.

(53:33):
You know, hey, we think we think highly of you.
We've made you a starter. You know, he took you
in the second round for a good reason. Like there
are a lot of guys like that. So you know,
let's let's see how they hold up against NFL offensive lineman.
Let's see how they hold up without maybe as much
of a safety net as they would have if some
of those other guys weren't practicing.

Speaker 4 (53:55):
We just got the first rep of the twos, and
now we've got a pre snap penalty.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
Okay, that's not what you want.

Speaker 4 (54:02):
No, if you ever wondered, you know, if you were
down here, what the term of party in the backfield
looked like, you would look at the first play of
the the two's there because the defensive line had a
party in the backfield. And it led me to the
first time noticing Cordell Vulson this training camp. And it's
not in a positive way. No, there close for me

(54:24):
to get in the Jackson Carmen treatment of you. You
just can't play the guy well.

Speaker 2 (54:28):
But I mean the the Bengals told you this offseason
how they felt about him, right, Yes, they acquired other guards,
and they asked him to take a pay cut. Like
the next step is, you're not working here anymore, correct,
Like we're not part of the player when when when
you were, we're giving your we're giving somebody else a
chance to win your job, and we need you to

(54:50):
take a pay cut. Like Cordell has said all the
right things about that, Like the next step is you're
not here, And that's what they.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
Do with Jackson.

Speaker 2 (54:59):
Carmon did has to take a pay cut. They just
told him to go away. But I mean, like, I
think it would be unsurprising if on the fifty three
man roster and cutdown day, Cordell Volson's not on it,
or he is, and then they find somebody else in
cut him anywhey.

Speaker 4 (55:12):
The issue is, if he's not on it, what move
have you made? Right? Because we talked earlier in the
show about depth and injuries, and you know, at the
core of all this, you still have a guy in
Dylan Fairchild who's never played an NFL game, right, factoring
in to be your starting guard. If that doesn't work,
is Cordell Volson your fault your fallback? And if it's not,

(55:33):
is it Lucas Patrick.

Speaker 2 (55:37):
Like it's is that it's a combination of Lucas Patrick
Cody Ford can play.

Speaker 4 (55:42):
Is that going to give you confidence? If Week one
Mason Graham and Miles or Miles Garrett lining up there.

Speaker 2 (55:48):
It will be the biggest question about it, regardless of
who lines up at guard. What we're gonna ask the
week leading up to that game is are they better
enough at guard to keep Miles Garrett from lining up
up on the inside of the defensive line and getting
to Joe Burrows. It's gonna be the biggest question about
that game.

Speaker 4 (56:05):
It is the answer. It's the question I think they're
gonna have to answer the most of this season, because,
let's face it, if Week one they go out in
the defense is not very good, We're not gonna be
super surprised. We're gonna say, well, they need to be better,
but it's not like the pieces are in place to say, oh,
they're going to be a top ten defense. If we
go out here week one and we're talking about Joe

(56:26):
Burrow ten quarterback hits three sacks, then you're you're charting
down the path again of here we go again. Yeah,
that that becomes an issue.

Speaker 2 (56:34):
Yeah, I guess for me, it's when they drafted Dylan Fairchild.
They drafted him with the idea that he was going
to be the starting guard or one of the starting guards.
How firm of a hold on the gig does he
have right right? He he might be the starting might
be a starter right now, but they're gonna play three
preseason games.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
He's gonna be throw to the Wolves in those games.

Speaker 2 (56:57):
Yes, you know, like, is what does the scenario look
like that doesn't have him starting against the Cleveland Browns
on September the seventh.

Speaker 4 (57:07):
If he's not starting against the Browns, then I think
that the scenario is disaster because you don't have the
other plan. And you're talking about not enough faith in
your third round pick to be the starter when you
drafted him to be the starter. You're also probably talking
about a scenario where Austin's watching the game from.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
The Dakary deck.

Speaker 4 (57:27):
That's for him. It could be anio.

Speaker 3 (57:29):
Let's refresh that scenario.

Speaker 4 (57:30):
Yeah, the scenario is simple. If Cordell Volson and Cody
Ford are starting Week one against the Cleveland Browns. Our
guy Austin will fly down in the morning, watch the
Bengals Browns game at the Doacory Deck, and then have
to fly home after.

Speaker 2 (57:44):
Now, let me just ask this, Does the Dakary Deck
have NFL Sunday ticket?

Speaker 4 (57:48):
Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Okay, absolutely, because I didn't want him to get down
there and it's like, nah, you know, we've got the
Dolphins game out or something.

Speaker 4 (57:54):
Like that, big big Ohio contingent down at the Dakary Deck.
He is the key.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
I want to lose a wager where the payoff is
I have to sit at the dock.

Speaker 4 (58:01):
Ready and drink all day. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:03):
Oh darn it, man, that's a tough one.

Speaker 4 (58:06):
He might be secretly rooting for courts.

Speaker 3 (58:09):
I wouldn't be secretly rooting, and I would be actively rooting. Yeah,
I would.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
I would have Expedia open on cutdown day and be
ready to book my flight.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (58:20):
Well, he's hanging on our words right now. Of if
there's a chance he might be booking already.

Speaker 3 (58:26):
I would be too.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
What I want to know is like, is there another
maybe I asked you this, is there another part of this?

Speaker 3 (58:32):
Is there something you know? No?

Speaker 4 (58:34):
This was a this was a concern I had, and
it was a confidence that Austin had ye that he
wasn't going to be in that scenario.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
I think for me, it's just the fact that we're
having a conversation about Dylan Fairchild not starting if things
don't go well and it being disastrous speaks.

Speaker 4 (58:49):
To, yeah, here's another party in the backfield.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
No, it feels like what we talked about the Reds
at the end of the off season, where just it
felt incomplete, and what they've done at Garb. And I
also think it's safety feels like, really, there wasn't one
more guy.

Speaker 3 (59:05):
And I know Brandon Sheriff.

Speaker 2 (59:07):
Is the name that everybody has talked about, and he's
still out there, and he's still out there for a reason,
and he's thirty three years old.

Speaker 3 (59:12):
He may never play football again.

Speaker 2 (59:13):
But I think at those two positions, I don't dislike
the options they have.

Speaker 3 (59:18):
I just wish they had one more.

Speaker 4 (59:20):
I also, I don't think it would be exuding confidence
if on cutdown day across the NFL they pick up
someone that got cut from another team, like maybe, yeah,
I mean they're getting cut from another team, it's because
you didn't do enough to be one of the top
two on that run.

Speaker 3 (59:37):
Well, but what in what role is that player gonna serve?
Are you?

Speaker 2 (59:41):
Hey, this guy fits what we do and he's a
good backup. Like you know, they got Matt Sharping a
couple of years ago a cutdown day and he didn't
play a ton, but you always felt like, well, if
that guy has to play, they'll be okay, right like you,
But again is that well, if he has to play,
will be okay?

Speaker 4 (59:57):
I mean not the it's not what you want for
this offense.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
There are scenarios though, where one team's trash can be
your treasure because you need a player at that position
and he's better than maybe your backup option. What you
don't want to be doing, and I don't think they
will be doing. What you don't want to be doing
is looking for starters. You know, we need guys who
are going to start and play sixty snaps against the
Browns week one. Yeah, and we got to find, you know,
players who fit the positions we need, who have been

(01:00:22):
cut by other teams. You don't want to be in
that spot. But again, like I just at guard, It's
like again, it's like we said about the Reds, Like
you couldn't go get one more outfit for one more
guys so we don't have to watch Blake Dunn and
Jacob hurdabees And then the conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
If Fairchild was legitimately competing to start as a rookie, like,
you'd feel better because that means there's someone in place
that is going to push him to do that. And
if not there Cody Ford. But I mean, right now,
the option for this team's Courtell Wolson.

Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Yeah, I think Dylan Fairchild has the inside track on
the starting job. I don't think it's well, I don't
think he is a lock block on it. I mean
I think there's a scenario where he doesn't win it.
But if he doesn't win it, then their best laid
plans on draft night went awry. Correct, But again, like
I look at guard and I look at safety and
I just go like, couldn't.

Speaker 4 (01:01:12):
Go get one more guy, one more addition, one one
more one more piece, one more guard or at safety,
you'd feel a lot better.

Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
Than you do right now.

Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
Yeah, they'll get you red zone seven on seven right
in our lap. Now, this is great, yep, easy completion.

Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
Joe Burrow throws short of the goal line. To first
time chase.

Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
It's first down, first and goal.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
Okay, first and goal. Now, this is where they were
stopped on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (01:01:37):
Yeah, these this this.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Is where the defense stepped up big on on Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
This is where Al Golden's got to have his niche right,
be excellent in the red zone.

Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
Right, this is where the building blocks.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
This is where the first building blocks of this year's
defense need to be laked and which one of.

Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
These officials are gonna get their their flag out first?
In the red zone, it's easy to throw it at
the fifty. Who wants to throw one in the red
zone here?

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Yuh?

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Look at this an interception Joe Burrow picked off in
the red zone. Wow, a red zone interception for Joe
Burrow and on a ball kind of look targeted for
T Higgins. I'm still getting used to the to the
jersey switch. Correct. All camp offense is more and white.

Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Correct.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
So seeing that your initial thought is touchdown and then
it's like, well, that's T Higgins in the.

Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Black that throw as it was being made Cam Taylor.

Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
If I'm no, that was Josh Newton. If I'm sitting
if I'm sitting in my seat next door. I'm yelling
now there is a bullet to Jamar Chase right between
four defenders.

Speaker 4 (01:02:43):
For a touchdown. That's a good answer.

Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
But that that Joe threw, that's one that if you're
sitting in the stands or watching at a bar or
something as it's being throw it's no yeah. I mean
that was yeah, which, oddly enough, can I say telegraphed,
which oddly enough is the same throw he just made.

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
But he completed it right too. Again, Demetrius Knight has
to be like, what else can I do today? But
the Josh Newton aspect, Yes, he was vocal in the
off season, Uh huh.

Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Watching film with joke, he's been very vocal during came
I like he's also vomiting right now.

Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
I mean, we're almost a second pick today for Joe Burrow.

Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
We're here to inform the audience what's going on.

Speaker 4 (01:03:25):
And he vomited the other day of camp and he
said it was just weakness leaving the body. Look, Joe
Burrow almost just threw his second interception of the red
zone ball got batted down. But you're probably trying to
see again, he's seen everything at this point. Sure, you've
probably seen how much you can get away with if
you're Joe Burrow. We're not concerned that Joe Burrow to
it and you don't want to see it, but he's

(01:03:46):
probably given guys an opportunity seeing what he can get
away with in situation.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Well, the last time he threw a pick, he had
an answer and threw an absolute rope to the answer
to Jamar Chase. This is with Chase coming in motion
and Burrow and Mike Kasicki with a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Yeah, that one compared to the other where he telegraphed it.
He started looking at us, worked all the way back
across the field. He did found Gasiki. Now you're hoping
a game seting he's got the time to to look
to three different options in the red zone.

Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Yeah, but I would say I think I can almost
tell you what Josh Newton had for breakfast.

Speaker 4 (01:04:21):
Are you calling that initial segment a win for the defense?

Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
Yeah, they got a couple of turnovers in the red zone. Yes,
absolutely against against Joe Burrow with guys like Jamar Chase
and T Higgins on the field. Ye, now Jake Browning
working in the red zone. Yeah, they got a couple
of Like we talked about this a little bit on
I think on Monday Show, where like Al Golden is
retooling this defense. The first place you want to start

(01:04:48):
is red zone and then go from there, like you'd
love to build it to a point where they can
never cross the fifty against us, but at the very
least stop him from getting touchdowns. By the way, as
my guy, TODJ. Brooks catches a patty, what.

Speaker 4 (01:05:00):
I think, he looks good. Yeah, like ball in his hand,
he looks good. Yeah, go bowling ball.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Tadje Brooks is gonna have a positive impact on this team.

Speaker 4 (01:05:10):
I think so.

Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:05:13):
Jake Browning's taking the Jimmy Clawson approach right now, just
hitting every checkdown.

Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Isaiah Williams with the checkdown reception mean nuts.

Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
Then I do the same thing to me at the
end of camp, like man Clawson completed eighty six percent
of his passes for thirteen.

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Yards all checkdowns, and meanwhile you're airing it.

Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
Out, trying to all right, trying to you know, look,
I mean take what the defense gives jacket, yes, right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
And and the defense gave him the checkdown, right, they
bowed up in the reds.

Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
Must be dropping eight in the red zone.

Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Right now. That's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
There he is.

Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
See now we have was that ball caught? Yes? It was?

Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
Is that you see bearcat and former a former Bearcat?

Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
That was Kentrick Pryor.

Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
I thought I thought we had uh Wester.

Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
Jamoy is.

Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
Not part of this drill. Jamoy is gonna be out
there with Dez. You know you're gonna get that UC
connection from from des and Jamoy. There's a pass to
the back of the end zone and the play is
broken up. That is a really, really nice play by
Dejon Anthony. Look, Dejon Anthony is a guy who's gonna
get thrown to the Wolves this year if there's an
issue at safety. Right Unfortunately, he's known for the play

(01:06:35):
against Kansas City, which he probably should have been on
the field for.

Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
But like bad, like a year to be known for
a play you shouldn't have been on the field.

Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
Yes, it would be bad.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
But the cool thing is, at some point this season
he is going to get a chance to show opport
that he's something Besides that play against the Kansas City
Chiefs in in Week two of last.

Speaker 4 (01:06:54):
Yearly enough, no passes in our direction yet no no
back corner passes.

Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
There's a throw to Jermaine Burton in the back of
the end zone. That was a nice catch.

Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Yeah, I don't have anything negative to say about Jermaine
Burton at this point of camp. I think he's been great.
Minus is tw the towel is rough, the tow is
a bad look. But everything he's done up to this point.

Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
If if you came to any one of these practices
and knew nothing about him, if you knew nothing about
how his rookie season unfolded.

Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
He'd stand out.

Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
You would go eighty one, right, Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
You might not go by eighty one's better than one
and five, but you'd go, dude, eighty one, Like, how
much is that guy gonna help you this year? Is
T Higgins catches one in front of the goal line
and goes in for it.

Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
It's so easy to forget that. It wasn't like a
six round guy they took with upside. He was a
third round pick that played in the SEC for multiple teams. Yeah,
you took him to be a playmaker.

Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
You took him to possibly replace T Higgins. Yep, didn't happen.
Didn't happen that way, And I think we're happy for
you know, the t Higgins part of that, but they
they didn't take him, hoping he would scratch and claw
his way onto the roster. They drafted him thinking if
T Higgins isn't a part of our team in twenty
twenty five, we've got this guy.

Speaker 4 (01:08:14):
Oh yeah, look at this.

Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
Here's a throw right to us.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
It is a really really nice pass break up and
a ball intended for Jamar Chase Jordan Battle on the play.

Speaker 4 (01:08:24):
Wow, and they're talking about it with each other.

Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
Hell yeah they are. Jordan Battle, let him know. That's
the second time I've seen that.

Speaker 3 (01:08:29):
I saw that the other day.

Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
Would have liked that ball to ricochet over here a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
That was like with where our tent is.

Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
That didn't have disaster potential, but it was on my
radar that that might end up like in our lap.
And when I say our lap, not the ball Jordan
Battle and Jamar Chase.

Speaker 4 (01:08:46):
I mean, if you want to see what we're talking about,
I'm sure we're Peene's gonna have it up here in
the next few seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
There's there's no one better or quicker so fast. Yeah,
but like again, is he holding a newborn No. Olivia
Ray was putting video up while she was hold holding
an infant. There was another pass back that is on
the far side of the field. Is that Josh Newton Again,

(01:09:12):
that was Cam Taylor Taylor Britt. We've kind of run
the gamut of all the dbs making play.

Speaker 4 (01:09:17):
This has been a very positive red zone session for
the secondary.

Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
But you know what's interesting is.

Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
Which is harder to do that the offense should win
because there's no pass rush.

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
You're dealing with the secondary that's very unproven, right, But
you're also watching the secondary, like watch them, watch them after.

Speaker 4 (01:09:36):
Every plays, a celebration, the excitement, confiden and then Des
Rudder is going to ruin all of it for the
secondary right here. Look, there's there's a lot of college
dbs who were embarrassed by Des Ridder DJ Turner on
the play there in Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
In Cincinnati, Des Ritter has never lost a game in Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (01:09:54):
What an opportunity for Des As Joe and the offense struggled,
here they come.

Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
Des is going to show him how it's done.

Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
Yeah, and I think our guy James Rapine, who's contributed
to this show in more ways than one, just made
a good point. That's DJ Turner with the third team,
right it's interesting getting third team right, that's interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Here's Peyton Thorn with the pass on the back of
the end zone.

Speaker 4 (01:10:17):
That's death.

Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
I saw ten.

Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
Here he comes, here, he comes, here, he comes.

Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
Tana McLaughlin signing.

Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Yeah, that doctor back passes caught on DJ Turner on
the third team right now, that's not good.

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
It's not great, not great. That's a guy where.

Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
We're talking about running with the ones a couple of
days ago, no question about it, no question now. That
could be more of what the other guys are doing
right getting opportunities. Josh Newton has has certainly made the
most of his when he's not projectile vomiting on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Here's Dez. Look at that footwork by des rider ye
and uh, just to throw away, he throws an Ellie
Dela Cruz airmail from shortstop.

Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
Man, are we Is that gonna be a thing this year?
If a quarterback sales one high? We talked about he
threw an Ellie de la Cruz ball.

Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
That was that was that was intended for Rashadow and
multiple dbs on coverage there.

Speaker 4 (01:11:14):
But if I'm Joe Burrow right now, I'm asking for
one more, one more, Absolutely, I want one more.

Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
I'm not ending that.

Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
I'm not ending that drill with the defense chirping at
me the way it did when he came off the field.
But like again, I look at that as that unit's
got to build confidence that units.

Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
It was much maligned last year.

Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
There was a reason why lou and Aromo's not here,
and the play of the secondary is a big reason
why like defense won the defense won that there.

Speaker 4 (01:11:43):
Were If you want to see the videos, go check
out what James again.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
Nobody better take our word for it. Nobody better at
turning around video when they're not.

Speaker 4 (01:11:51):
Holding and the sky don't lie, no question.

Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
All right, we have to step aside. It's twenty six fun.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
I enjoyed that coverage, Rainycamp coverage. We got to do
a little play by play there.

Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
That was fun.

Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Man misidentified my favorite player on the team.

Speaker 4 (01:12:08):
Yeah, you try to take away when a dos.

Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
I just I you know, I'm scanning the field. I
look over, I see ten and it was four thrown it. Anyway,
it is twenty six minutes after eleven o'clock. It's the Ae,
Door and Window Tony and Mo Football Show on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati.

Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
Sports, ESPN fifteen thirty Orange and Black Hotline is built
by Racing Claire Roofing your homes trusted problem solvers.

Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
Why not away from now since three sixty This is
the AE Door Window Tony and Moe Training Camp Show
broadcasting from Bengals Training Camp. Well, this is our fifth
show down here we have well you have five and
we need to sit back down. That was what we
just enjoyed there. I don't know if that was good
radio or not. Frankly right, that was fun.

Speaker 4 (01:12:53):
Yeah. I've hit my head twice on this.

Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
I today have not hit my head on the tent.

Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
Yes, yeah, that last segment there and what the defense
was able to do is impressive. Seven on seven in
a way is designed for the offense to win. You
don't have a pass rush to worry about.

Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
Right, somebody's just got to get open. No one's in
your face.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
You go through progressions, you finds.

Speaker 4 (01:13:19):
You have you have this clock and again, what what
the defense was able to do? I think and and
I think you hit the nail on the head. You
see a little bit as well of the confidence growing
when they make the plays that they do. So again,
there's there's a lot more practice still to go. I'm
assuming they're going to get another team drill in or

(01:13:41):
to them. But up to this point, I'd say it
was a this is a good day for the defense.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
What should we do with the knowledge that what we
just watched included DJ Turner working with the threes?

Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
I think to me it signifies the urgency that Al
Golden is operating with. I think he understands there's a
lot of guys that are vying for these spots, and
there's there's not going to be an opportunity for guys
to get comfortable if they're not doing their job.

Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Might might not be a big thing, but like you,
hear coaches say all the time, like, we don't care
when you were drafted, we don't care what you're making.

Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
We're using the best guys that Yeah, and I also
to a degree is emblematic in that.

Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
I also think if you're out Golden and you do
move a guy like that and you want to see
how they respond, you know, is he is he going
to be he got beat twice.

Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
And got beat twice?

Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Yeah, I mean, but you want to see how you Okay,
let me throw something at him.

Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
How's he going to responds? He got beat?

Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
A couple times when he was with the Ones, and
those opportunities again, Josh Newton made the most of his
opportunity right getting reps against the Ones, and he had
an interception in a pass breakup. You know, Cam Taylor
Britton made a play. I just toord in Battle Jordan
Battle made a play. And what I like, you know

(01:14:57):
is they are they're not afraid to talk about it
a little bit with the offense too. They know how
talented this offense is. Yes, but if you're doing it
within the confines of the play or right after the play,
to me, that shows confidence, That shows you're playing fast,
That shows that you have an understanding of what you're

(01:15:17):
trying to do. And I think that all bodes well
for the defense.

Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
No question about that. All right, what are we doing
right now?

Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
Like what more punt they have? They've warned the leg
of Ryan recollacted. You want to talk about a vet day?
He's getting a vet day tomorrow. This is the most
punning I've seen in a practice in quite some time.
A lot of focus on the punch squad, and I
think too to our you know, I was asked over
the break, oh boy, there's Jermaine Burton muffing a punt.

Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
Oh no, that's not gonna help us, cause.

Speaker 4 (01:15:45):
Well, so I was just gonna ask you, if Jermaine
Burton is your return guy, is Charlie Jones on this roster?
M Now, that's gonna help his case because what he
is is sure handed. But if Jermaine Burton is your guy,
is Charlie Jones on the roster because Jamaine Burton's been
getting a line's share of these returns right now?

Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
Well, Joe Jamar t Andre, Jamaine Burton, Charlie Jones would
be the fifth wide receiver.

Speaker 4 (01:16:18):
Yeah? I mean, and do you is there any of
the other receivers that are in camp right now that
you think there's an.

Speaker 3 (01:16:24):
Upside to more than Charlie Jones. Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:16:27):
But you know, like to me, you know what, Charlie
is sure.

Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Solid, sure fifth wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
Like if he's if he's playing fifty snaps a game
on offense, something has gone really wrong. But you could
say that about any of those guys right that he's
you know, competing.

Speaker 4 (01:16:42):
With, would you would him as a fifth wide receiver
or Trenton Norwin?

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Mm, that's the same, yeah, the same? Are we am?

Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
I forgetting somebody at that position, I don't think so,
I don't know that there's anybody else that you would go,
I want him instead of Charlie Jones for that specific role, right, Like,
there's not a future number one wide receiver down there, Right,
there's not a like a diamond in the rough that
you're like, holy crap, this is.

Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
Any of them if they're in for a long period
of time.

Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
Right, So, Charlie Jones, I know what I got. I
could use some on special teams. Like how many of
those other guys can you say, well, we know what.

Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
They can do, we know what they have.

Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
Yeah, so yeah, I mean Burton Jones can both be
on the team at the same time, I would imagine.
I guess the question for me would be if if
Jermaine Purton, if Jermaine Burton, if what we have seen
from him proves to be a mirage and they go,
you know what, it's the the old habits, he's not
showing up, he's in trouble, and you go, we're moving on.

Speaker 3 (01:17:41):
Then what? Right? You know, then who's who's that?

Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Who's I mean, it's it's not like they were that
active at wide receiver in the off season, right.

Speaker 3 (01:17:50):
But yeah, I think, I think.

Speaker 4 (01:17:52):
But that's a fair But it's a fair question because
of the unfortunate nature that T. Higgins has been injured so.

Speaker 3 (01:17:58):
Much, we talked about X factors.

Speaker 4 (01:18:01):
Now you would start to think about, Okay, let's make
sure that depth is solidified on this roster wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
T higgins health is an X factor.

Speaker 4 (01:18:08):
I mean there were points at the draft and in
free agency where the idea was thrown around of.

Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
Do you add a wide receiver?

Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
No doubt? Yeah, you know that's fair. The Bengals were
not going to bring T. Higgins back because they were
concerned about his health.

Speaker 3 (01:18:20):
So how then with him still here and having missed
five games last season, do you not wonder if he
can get through the full seventeen? Like his health is
an X factor? Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
Now you might go, well, you know they're fine because
they have Burrow throwing the ball to whoever, and they
have Micasicki and Chase Brown and you know Jamar Chase
is all world.

Speaker 3 (01:18:40):
But like.

Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Who the answer were supposed to be Jermaine Burg right
when they drafted him. That was when T's not here anymore,
Jermaine's going to be the guy.

Speaker 3 (01:18:50):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
So can can that end up being the case when
and if t Higgins has to miss time this season?

Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
I smell fried chicken? Do you smell that?

Speaker 4 (01:18:58):
I do too. It gets to this point in the
day where hunger starts becoming why.

Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
Is there where? And why is their fried chicken here
at training camp?

Speaker 3 (01:19:07):
Practice?

Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
Is it coming all the way over from that tent?
It seems like it's about one hundred and fifty yards away.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
That tents a long way away.

Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
These hospitality tents have like snacks, and you could tell
we're getting closer to the end of practice and they're
handing out the felt helmet that people get signed.

Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
I would imagine we're going to see this period of
punt and then I would think we're going to see
one more team drill. Okay, that's what I would imagine.

Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
The team drills we have seen so far. You saw
a lot of parties in the backfield with the defensive line, yes,
ones on one on ones yep, and then we saw
the defense hold their own against the Bengals offense.

Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
Yeah, it's a good sign for al Gold.

Speaker 4 (01:19:48):
It's a good good day, especially coming off an off
day yesterday. I think that's the important part because if
you're out golden yesterday is such a weapon from a
mental side, right If you would have came out today
and mental airs and giving up wide open completions or
not provided pressure off of an off day, then I

(01:20:08):
think you would you would be concerned. I also don't
think you know, maybe this is the Trey Hendrickson effect.
Maybe these guys are rallying around their leader could be
their captain. They saw their captain is back, and now
they're rallying.

Speaker 3 (01:20:25):
Maybe they should offer to help him pay his fine.

Speaker 4 (01:20:28):
I wonder if if things don't get well in this
last team period, what Joe Burrow's vibe is gonna be after.

Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
I believe I believe he talks today. Am I correct?

Speaker 4 (01:20:38):
I'd love to get that audio.

Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
Austin tell me if i'm, I can look it up.
I guess I believe Joe talks as a press conference
at noon, so we'll get his.

Speaker 4 (01:20:48):
Thoughts decided to talk. If if this day doesn't get better,
here in this line.

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
Asked questions, they'll be asked questions about that's correct, all right,
So Joe is going to talk at twelve.

Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
We'll have that audio for you.

Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
At some point he'll talk about the performance of the
offense against.

Speaker 4 (01:21:02):
And again, this is the defense without Logan Wilson today
it is yeah, without Trey Hendrickson. And by all again
this is all hands on deck for the offense. Isn't
missing anybody, right, this is all hands on deck for
what we view to be, or at least hope to be,
one of the best offenses in the National Football League.

Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
Alright, what do we what are we about to watch?
Right now? We're going. We're team here, We're going team,
We're team all right. Now we have a little bit
of a wall in front of us. All right, you're
working the window.

Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
It's gonna get closed.

Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
They saw you. What are we doing? All right? Joe
Burrow just threw a pass. Was it complete?

Speaker 4 (01:21:39):
It was complete to Mikeasicki Okay, six yards?

Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
Okay, very good? All right?

Speaker 4 (01:21:43):
Tight ends are rude, man.

Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
So the tight ends water station is like blocking. The
entire team has lined up in the end zone, which
blocks my view. Tony has stood up to give us
a little bit of insight as to what's happening.

Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
But we're going full team right now.

Speaker 4 (01:21:58):
Yes, it looks like we'll see after this play that
they move the chains with that one. So This could
be one of those opportunities if you look at how
the teams are lined up, and we haven't seen it
yet at camp, where you actually move the ball based
on what the play is.

Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
That looks like Joe Burrow changed the play.

Speaker 4 (01:22:15):
Yeah, this is I don't think this is a scripted period.
I think this is a period where if you pick
up eight yards, then you move the chains eight yards.

Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:22:26):
You know that last play was second and four, Right,
you're running your second and fourth plays. Yeah, so now
we just saw t Higgins pick up a first down.
Now they move the chains and they're actually moving the
field as the drill goes here. So this is not
a scripted portion of camp. This is offense calls based
on what happened. Defense calls based on what happened.

Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
This is the closest they can replicate to a game experience.

Speaker 4 (01:22:49):
Yeah, except in a game you can't have players on
the field.

Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
This is true and it's worth mentioning for those who
weren't with us before.

Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
We have officials today.

Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
Yes, there's a here we go. It was a pass
down the left sideline. That's Andre Yoshman. That's a nice grab.

Speaker 3 (01:23:04):
Yeah, he's been a couple of those times. That's a
nice grab. Yeah, you talk about like knowing what you have. Yeah,
he's a guy, he is.

Speaker 4 (01:23:14):
I don't think he's flashy, no, but he's consistent in
what you have. You know what you have in Yoshi
Vash with when when he's going to line up and
what he's gonna do.

Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Right, we got to get a break in here after
another player too.

Speaker 4 (01:23:29):
Seriously, in a game, if we're gonna make game settings,
players need to be off the field.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
I once went to a Butch Jones practice where like,
that's all they worked on for forty five minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
We're players getting off the field and being in the
right spots on.

Speaker 4 (01:23:41):
The side of McKinley jackson siding. Wow, that's a blowing
up a play. Look at this, Look at him. They're
walking the line of scrimmage back about six yards here.

Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
McKinley Jackson is not a name we have mentioned all
that often during our stay here at camp.

Speaker 4 (01:23:54):
Yeah, that was a third, uh second or third down?
Stop now, Jake Brownie going to get an opportunity.

Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
And there's a somewhat frustrated looking Joe Burrow walking off
to the sideline. All right, it is eighteen away from
twelve o'clock since he three to sixty coming up at
the top of the hour. AE Dorn Window Tony and
Mo Football Show on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
A window has grown a lot, but it is thirteen
away from now.

Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
It's the AE Door and Window Tony and Mo Training
Camp Show from.

Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
Bengals Training Camp. Thanks to AE Doort Window.

Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
Thanks to our friend Tove five one three five one
three TPH Oakley Green sponsoring our show as well.

Speaker 3 (01:24:37):
We certainly love Oakley Greens.

Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
We are broadcasting from the airport Paint and Body broadcast
area and our calls our guests join us on the
Ray Saint Clair Roofing hotline. Tony recap what we've been
watching all away.

Speaker 4 (01:24:53):
I think the defense, the number two defense one again
against the number one or the number two offense. The
first play that the Ones have run again, Jordan Battle
came up and had a tackle for loss on Jamar
Chase on a little swing pass. And then on the
previous play Joe Burrow completed the pass. But if he
it would have been a game situation, he would have

(01:25:14):
either been hit before he threw or he would have
been taking one under the chin as he threw. We've
got a flag down on this play, probably a procedure
or a pre snap penalty from the offensive side of
the ball. It's just it's not been the cleanest offensive
day we've we've had.

Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:25:32):
I think again, when you're coming off an off day yesterday,
sure that's something you put an emphasis on if you're
Zach Taylor, right. I mean, that was a quick that
was a three play set. We were talking about moving
the ball. Then that's a three and out from the offense.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Defense got a three and out. I don't think the
offense gained the yard.

Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
No, Yeah, that was a that was an impressive set
and we set over the break. You can usually tell
with with Joe how he's feeling when he comes off
the field.

Speaker 3 (01:25:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:26:00):
A lot of today has been him kind of pacing
by himself. Yeah, he's talking with Dan Pitcher right now,
I believe. But it doesn't look like a happy Joe
Burrow coming off an off day.

Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
You know, you could always even just during a game,
setting like you'll see a quarterback sort of just off
to the side, pacing, looking down, not really interacting with anybody.
Sometimes that happens after a pick. Joe did that for
an extended amount of time while the two's were out
there now talking a little bit more. He just spent
a few minutes chatting with our guy Des Ritter.

Speaker 3 (01:26:31):
But yeah, he was.

Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
He was clearly frustrated, and I can understand why defense
has has gotten some wins today.

Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
How it'll be interesting to see how he handles speaking today,
because day one he made it very clear he wasn't
happy with the performance. Right now, you're getting a little
bit deeper into camp. Offense is expected, let's call it
what an offense is expected to win every day. Yes,
especially a day where Trey Henderson is not practicing and
Logan Rising is not practicing as well. Right, that's a

(01:26:59):
day you should win if you're the offensive side of
the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
Jake Browning and a bunch of the twos on the
field right now going up against the second team defense.

Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
I see Taj Brooks out there.

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
There's Tanner Hudson out there, a name we haven't talked
about at all. By the way, it is interesting speaking
of Tanner Hudson plays tight end.

Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
I asked Paul Tayner Junior yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Like, has the ship sailed on Noah font and he
pretty explicitly said.

Speaker 4 (01:27:27):
No, yeah, I mean he's taking what now three visits. Yeah,
has not made a decision yet at this point. You know,
you wonder on days like this if you know that
pushes a no A fan move even more. We we've
talked when Noah Fan visited. This team wants to operate
in more twelve personnel.

Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
And again Eric Hall when he was healthy, And if
we're not talking about Tanner, Hudson right or any other ones,
then maybe that's a slow point right now for this offense.
Only eight teams lined up in twelve personnel more frequently
than the Bengals did last season. A lot of that
front loaded to when Eric All was healthy. But still
it's it's something that they wanted to incorporate and we're
doing so successfully.

Speaker 3 (01:28:06):
You would imagine that theme will continue. All right, It
is going to continue. We are going to.

Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
Continue nine minutes away from twelve o'clock and since he
three sixty coming up on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, The.

Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
Rest the Official hum of the Bengals Cincinnatis, ESPN fifteen thirty,
We have just a.

Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
Couple of minutes here before Since the three sixty is
the adoring Windows, Tony and Mo Football Show, Bengals training
camp practice continues.

Speaker 4 (01:28:33):
You just said to me off air, the offense is
getting worked, yeah, I mean in the trenches. They've gotten
crushed today. Now after I said that, they just had
a big completion down the field. But beautiful ballshovers in
great coverage. Yeah, great ball if you're happy with that. Yes,
a one handed catch on a ball that literally couldn't
have been put in a better spot. But it takes

(01:28:54):
that right now for the offense to get anything going.
I mean that is a that's a testament to what
the defense is doing. And I said on air, it's
not like they're hiding a bunch of stuff right.

Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Now pre snap. Yeah, they are.

Speaker 4 (01:29:07):
Lining up and playing fast, which is exactly what you
want from Al Gold.

Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
Yeah. No, we took dumbing it down, right.

Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
It's one of the defense took a step forward toward
the end of the year last year, plus playing bad
quarterbacks is t Higgins catches the pass over the middle,
but it was dumbing it down. Line up and play.
This defense is lining up and playing yeah, and they're
playing fast. Yeah, that's something you see today.

Speaker 4 (01:29:26):
It looks like they are playing at a different speed
than currently what the offense is.

Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
Yeah, and with confidence, and I you know, I dwelled on.

Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
It a lot here, but I mean, but if you're
out golden Yeah, how great is it to be able
to come after a practice like this and reiterate to
you a guy, this is one of the best offenses,
if not the best, in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (01:29:44):
And we've more than held our own. Now this should
give you confidence. Is it troubling though, for the offensive
side of the ball that they're being pushed around at
the point of attach?

Speaker 4 (01:29:53):
I hate that it becomes a talking point again, But
how does it not? We talked about it with Austin
over the break two paended practices and they've been beaten
up front in both, right, no question about it. So
and they're they're beaten with Shamar Stewart and his third
practice as an NFL player, and no Troy Hendrickson out here,
no question you played Miles Garrett in a couple weeks.

Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
Do we we.

Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
Have to wait to the end of practice when since
he three sixty is underway to give out awards Camper
the day loser of the day.

Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
We can do that, Okay, Yeah, chet Brent Suter for
coming to Camp.

Speaker 4 (01:30:24):
Brent Suters here today. Yeah, you're just trying to get
his mind off the game tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:30:31):
Or last nights?

Speaker 4 (01:30:31):
Yeah, maybe last night.

Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
A right, it's the A. E. Dorn Window, Tony and
Moe training cam show. We are broadcasting from the Airport
Pain and Body Broadcast area since He three sixty is
next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
