Cincy Shirts. Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored
in part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts All Cincy, all Day.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Welcome back our two thanks to Cincy Shirts. Thank you
for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It's
Cincy three sixty Thursday afternoon, one o'clock. You know what
time it is. From AIDA's E Sports covering the Cincinnati Bengals.
John Sheeran joining us right now. What's up, John?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
I don't know what happened Monday night, but I know
the Bearcats beat the Red hand Kansas on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
So that's that's all I care about.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Let's go, John Sharon, Ada's E Sports covering the Bearcats. Listen.
Scott Sadderfield the hero we didn't know we needed in
Cincinnati right now.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I mean, I don't know if I want to go
that far, but you know what, sowreds b is playing
out of his mind.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
And I love to see it.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I love to see uce quarterbacks thriving.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
That's what I'm about.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
If this thing unravels for the Bengals, John, how far
up is Scott Saderfield on the list to potentially replace
Sack Taylor.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
He can rise from like four billion to three billion,
nine and ninety nine nine right.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
More time, I'm moving up. I get what you're I'm
picking it up right now. It is a minus sixty
three point differential in a two game span, John, How
can things get better for the Cincinnati Bengalso.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
The most important parts of the team play above their.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Pay grader, play above what they've been at right now.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
It's it's hard to manufacture any success when you have
basically nothing from your quarterback, basically nothing from the people
helping your quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
We were supposed to help your quarterback. We knew that this.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Defense was going to be weeks away from potentially inching
closer to average, and they flashed here and there. But
it's just that they need to be the two thousand
eight out there to complement this offense because they can't
do anything right. The offensive line is still very much incomplete.
You're still not getting any consistency from your five starters.
(02:11):
The best players in this offense aren't getting the ball
in a timely manner or in that position where they
can succeed. The quarterback, who is best attribute has been accuracy.
He doesn't look quite accurate, and they're asking to make
throws that you would probably only expect Joe Burrow to make.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
So it is kind of mind.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Boggling how the architects behind this offense apparently need more
time to manufacture production out of Jake grinding compared to
the last time that they've been through this. I don't
understand it, but that's kind of how they're in the situation.
They're not getting anything from their quarterback and the drop
off has been severely more extreme than we even thought.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
There are so many different avenues to take when talking
about the game on Monday night. I thought the lost
Monday was worse than the Minnesota Vikings loss because they
didn't turn the ball over. You could look to the
Minnesota game and just man, it's a fluke. Those type
of things sometimes happen. To get beat the way they
got beat in Denver and then to come back and
yesterday I hear Zach Taylor say that the words we
(03:09):
have a ton of unwavering confidence in Jake Browning. Do
you echo those sentiments? Do you right now have a
ton of confidence in Jake Browning? And do you think
the locker room has a ton of confidence in Jake Browning.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Well, I have no incentive to lie, so obviously no, right,
I mean, there's no way you can have confidence in
Jake Browning right now. That doesn't mean that he's incapable
of playing somewhat something resembling winning football.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
We just haven't seen it.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
And I think at this point you can assume that
whatever plan of just staying above water until Burrow maybe
comes back in December, it was probably far fetched because
you just can't rely on the consistency of someone who's
just not an established starter in this league, someone who
can't put together twelve quality games in the row. It
just can't be this bad, though, and that's what's still
(03:56):
kind of shocking, that he just can't get into a
rhythm offensively, can't find his guys down the field, and it's.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Just not been enough.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
So there's nothing to say that you have any confidence
in him just being what they need to be.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Again. He could play well.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Here and there in a handful of weeks, but in
terms of it being enough to keep this team competitive,
I don't know how you can have any confidence in that.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
I worry about the locker room. I worry about guys
listening to that and wondering how how do we have
that confidence? I wonder about guys like Jamar Chase and
T Higgins and to not get your catches and win games.
It's one thing to get blown out from back to
back weeks and not be a major part of what
your offense is doing, I imagine is frustrating. We talk
oftentimes about the word culture. How worrisome does the culture
(04:41):
become if we see another week of what we've seen
over the last two Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
I think everyone who's familiar with this team knows that
patience is just bacon to their identity, and they.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Will always give the people that they.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Know, whether it's players or coaches, probably more than enough
to prove that they're not getting.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
The job done.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
And I don't think that's something that the players don't
understand or haven't seen before.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
In some ways, I think right now, though, because.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
There was an expectation for this offense, regardless if it
was Browning or Burrow back there to look anything remotely
better than this, that's what should expedite this process, because again,
it can't be understated how bad this offense has been
turnedover and be damned.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
In week three against the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Right, what happened on Monday night, even against the defense
that does have a lot of talent Dever, it's just
beyond inexcusable and it's like you can't ignore that for
more than just a couple of weeks at this point.
So again, like Monday night was should have been a
watershed moment for the direction of this team, and I
think everyone can kind of see that the direction is
(05:49):
not positive. But we know that this team will take
more time than they probably should to make decisions that
all of us would probably.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Have already made already. So I agree.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I think people in that locker room, our notice team
what was happening, and it's only a matter of time
before you know, the conversations that we saw between Jamar
Chase and Zac Taylor that actually becomes contentions instead of
what was called to be productive.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
Rookie Jalen Rivers started on Monday against Denver. Zach Taylor
said he's going to start again Sunday against Detroit. What
did you see from him and how do you think
he's progressed to this point in the season.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, I think he looks more natural at guard compared
to tackle. He remind you he was rotating both between
both spots in college, and he'd never really had a
lot of foot quickness and agility as a pass protector.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
But I think even still.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
For a rookie, he plays very calm and there's going
to be some athletes that kind of get the best
of him and it can cross his face, and that
happened to him a couple of times. John Franklin Myers
is one of the more underrated defendive tackle of the league.
That was a pretty tough matchup for his first time,
so I didn't expect him to be perfect, and he
was definitely far from it, and especially with Marius Names
having arguably the worst game of his professional career next
(06:57):
to him, So it was a rough night for that
side of the outsive line. But I understand, you know,
giving him another shot, especially with the timing now with
Lucas Patrick still having one more week to go on
injured reserve, you give Rivers another chance to maybe play
at home, play a little bit more calm, in a
more calm environment, and see what he can do. Because
if he plays well, then you have the flexibility of
(07:19):
maybe giving Lucas Patrick another week to rest on injury reserve.
But if he doesn't, then you have that opportunity to
activate Patrick off the r and then make another switch.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Along the offensive line. It really does think that Delvin
Reizer wasn't able to come in and bring you some
solidity to that spot.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I wouldn't have expected him to get benched this early
for Ricking Rivers, but I think they did see a
lot that they liked the Rivers in the preseason and
they wanted to give to give him this chance to
see what he can do. So obviously it wasn't great
on Monday night, but I expect him to be a
little bit better on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
The offensive line as a whole, we've discussed already throughout
the recent weeks. They're not a good run blocking group there,
I think soft. They're also not getting help. How difficult
is it to operate as an offensive lineman when you
are consistently snapping the ball with one second on the
play clock.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised what happened on Monday doesn't
happen more Austin. Usually it's Miles Garrett that ends up
doing that when they play up in Cleveland. But you know,
Nick Bonito and Johnathon Cooper are two really great edges
that can get under your pads and when you just
give them just a free pass, Like, yeah, the ball.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Game snapped in zero seconds. It's it was nothing that
won the Browns.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Junior and a Martinsons could really done in that situation
except also time to snap perfectly. So yeah, it's the
fact that it's even happening on punts. It's just frankly
and excusable. It's just a very consistent issue at this point.
I don't know why they can't have the correct communication
in their helmet and how this is an every week
sort of problem. But yeah, that was an unfortunate moment
for the offensive line. There was obviously much worse situations
(08:44):
than that.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
That was just kind of meaned across the internet.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
But I mean, it's just this is the NFL, Like
we can't just blame it on just playing on the
road like this is you have to do this a
half of your schedule.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
It's just an excusable cam Taylor Brick played five snaps.
He was not taken out due to injury. This is
a long list now of previous high draft picks that
this team has made that are just not panning out.
How worrisome is what you're seeing on the defensive side
of the ball, poor angles, poor tackling, the penalties. It
(09:13):
doesn't feel like it's getting better at this point. How
concerning does this become.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Tailor Bridt specifically is disappointing because when he's playing at
his best, he's one of their better athletes, Like he's
a true four or three guy, and he brings a
lot of power as a tackler too, if he's not
playing with his head on straight like Josh Newton.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Again, I think there's value.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
To him, but you saw like as as soon as
he came out too the field, there was like a
reverse that the Broncos had and he took a bad
angle and doesn't have the recovery speed to make up
for it, and that was one of.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
The touchdowns that they gave up. It's tough to see
him do anything.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Correctly right now, and when they're relying on guys that
just aren't athletically gifted like that, like it's easy for
offenses to kind of take advantage and just find easy
yardage in ways that the Bengals offense can so Tailor
Bridtz specifically is disappointing because you're accepting.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
An athletic disadvantage there.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I think at linebacker you're starting to see more of
you know, Bear Carter and Demetrius Knife, and there's a
lot of ups and downs in that regard. It's just
it's like, if they don't get these turnovers on these
opportunity opportunities, then it's not much dissimilar to what it
was last year, where it's just hoping that, you know,
you keep them at the endine and they obviously couldn't do.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
That against Denver.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Where do they go right now as a team, because
it doesn't get any easier with the Detroit Lions coming in,
and I have a hard time wondering and believing how
they're going to stop Detroit or or move the ball
against Detroit. What are you looking forward or what are
you looking for from this team as it pertains to Sunday,
because it's easier to say, well, they need to win,
but the style in which they play right now, based
(10:47):
on the last two I think is so important. So
what will you be watching for the most on Sunday?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Find a plan outside of these fifty fifty sideline balls
to get Jamar chasen te against the ball, like moving
them around, find them some making seas across the middle
of the field. Tomorrow, Chase is begging for the ball
on Monday and they couldn't get to him. He's like,
regardless who's that quarterback, he should not average four point
six yards for catch, like that is your one hundred
(11:14):
and sixty million dollars player out there. And if he's
not making an impact and this defense can't be relied
on to keep the Lions probably under thirty points.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
You don't have a chance. So you need to maximize.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
He needs to utilize the players that are supposed to
carry you to the promise. And regardless if the quarterback
is out there or not, like that's that's up to
the coaching staff man, that's up to the guys who
are putting this plan together as we speak. And if
you can't get them the ball, if you can't generate
anything remotely close to explosive plays on offense, mind you,
this team is the fewest explosive plays going back to
(11:47):
twenty twenty two. Like, if you can't do that against
the Lions team that while they had a lot of
brain drain on the coaching staff still know how to
utilize their players. There's no hope for that, So it's
entirely on the offensive side of the ball to manufacture
any sort of thing that can just help them out
instead of just.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Churning out any sort of rare first down.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I do wonder now at this point, John, going forward,
I thought yesterday, there's kind of three ways that you
can take. You can, obviously at some point here soon
become a seller and move on from pieces and try
to acquire draft capital or whatever else you want to
in return. There's the idea that you can go all
in and try to go sign a Russell Wilson or
(12:26):
any quarterback you want to throw up there, maybe someone
that can help this team, or you just keep things
status quo. I think status quo is the most dangerous
because I think that sends a wrong message to the
locker room. Much like we talked about with the confidence
in Jake Browning, what path would you recommend for the
Cincinnati Bengals going forward.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
I see both sides.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
I really do like I feel like it can't really
get worse at quarterback right now. And I say that
with all due respect to Jack Running, but it's just
been an absolute futriod showing out there.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
You can't hide from that.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
You can't hide from the fact that there are other
options out there that are just more proven or who
are more capable as quarterbacks. And the whole reason behind
you know, keeping Browning for the past two bears is
that he's been familiar with the system, he's familiar with Burrow,
and you trust him to just immediately take over. If
this is the result of that, if this is the
outcome of that process, the process is fails, and that's
(13:21):
just something that you have to look into the mirror.
So like, that's why you should be entertaining other options
of quarterback. But I also understand that this offensive line
is still terrible and the offense that they're running behind
this offense line.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Is still not putting them in the best position.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
So if you have another quarterback like Rutts or Jamis
who also can't necessarily create out of pressure or create
out of structure and avoid pressure like Groundings, sure can't.
I can see why another quarterback here wouldn't exactly thrive
with what they're asking.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Him to do.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
So it's a combination of a lot of things that
just aren't going well and I understand why another quarterback
here wouldn't necessarily have any more success. But you can't
just say that the quarterback is not the problem here,
because he's part of it.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
John Sharon a is E Sports covering the Cincinnati Bengals.
It truly right now is a week to week season,
it feels like for the Cincinnati Bengals as they look
to erase what has been an abysmal two week stretch.
For all your coverage of the Bengals, John, and for
those to be able to follow along, what's the easiest
way to do so?
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Absolutely, guys sports dot com backslat Cincinnati. Eight is E
Sports Cincinnati on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, wherever you get
your video content, we're there as well.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Appreciate you John, as always phenomenal stuff. We'll talk again
next week.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Thanks boys, There he is.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
John Sharon eight is E Sports for now covering the Bengals.
Maybe some Bearcats here in the future.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
A lot of for nows out there in the world.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
A lot of for nows. As for now, we celebrate
the eighth anniversary of Sincy three to sixty. That'll continue
with a part of the show that has made this
very special do we make it to a ninth I
would hope so. I don't know what the powers would be.
Whatever say, I don't really hear from them. One year
from now, are we doing this? I hope so.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
I hope so too.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
One year from now, what are we talking about if
we're doing this Red Season? Is it's still going on?
Speaker 5 (15:13):
Oh yeah, okay, so we'll be talking about who just
won in the wild card round and is coming to
Cincinnati to play the Reds. Bengals A four and oh?
Who had a first round by Bengals A four and
oh yeah, Bengals four and oh.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Bear Cats coming off of college football playoff appearance now
looking to build on that appearance?
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Is this now? How can you have that mentality for
the Bearcats but not for the Reds.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Because the bear Cats are definitely tied for the lead
in the Big Twelve.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
You said you're you like you just celebrated an appearance. No,
I didn't celebrate an appearance. That's what it sounded like. No, no, no, no,
no no no. I said they're coming off of a
playoff appearance, but they want more. You would be happy
with that?
Speaker 3 (15:55):
No?
Speaker 5 (15:56):
I think you would? We want more? Would you be happy?
If they made the College Football Playoff and lost in
the first.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Round, depends what they play. If it's Ohio State and
know I'm not happy because I want blood. Your talkback's
next since he three sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Thanks to our friends at CINCI shirts
