Speaker 1 (00:00):
Cincy three sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome back, It's Sincy three sixty ESBN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. We obviously covered Reds, We cover the Bengals,
we cover FC Cincinnati, We cover the Cincinnati Bearcats, Xavier Musketeers.
Let's set some time aside here on a Thursday afternoon
to talk some high school football. And who better to
talk some high school football with than the man behind
the Skyline Chili Crossdown Showdown. It is one Tom Gamble

(00:34):
joining us. Now, Tom, what's up?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Well, Tony, I'm talking to high school royalty here though,
right out there Veterans Memorial Stadium. Huh, you're going to
give a pregame speech. You're the honorary captain, right, It's
a big night. You're ready.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
It's a big night at the at the VET Veterans
Memorial Stadium, and it's becoming even bigger because you guys
are going to be in the building as well. The
Skyline Chili Crossdown Showdown. Through reading the tailor, Yes, I'm
excited reading coming off. They got their first win, they
got the monkey off their back last week, so I'm
interested to see how they followed that up, because the

(01:12):
week before they played Madeira really well. They did, they
went for two, but they played them really well. So
I want to see what these guys have on Friday Night.
I'm looking forward to it, and obviously it has the
big game feel because you guys are gonna be in
attendance as well.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, you know, we picked these games before the year
and kind of you know, we started off in Southeast
Indiana with East Central Larrensburg. Then we went to Northern
Kentucky Highlands Cooper, then the opening of Baden's on campus stadium.
Then I mean Princeton, Lakota West, Anderson, King's Elder Saint X,
and you got to give some love to the small
schools in the Cincinnati Hills League, a very good league.
So we got back to back weeks this week Reading

(01:47):
hosting Taylor and then Indian Hill at Madeira, which is
a great rival game. And Indian Hill appears to be
the cream of the crop in the cochl is your
Wyoming's always there. But if Madeira somehow Friday night were
to beat Wyoming and be you know, undefeated against undefeated,
it no, you know, we try to spread the love
there's a lot of good high school football and we've

(02:08):
had some great games and there are some great teams,
and you know we're not naive. I mean moler at Elder.
I mean it's for the GCL SALTH but that should
be a great game. But now it'll be a lot
of fun. The people at ready. We did a PEP
rally at the Reading Skyline Chili Tuesday, and I did
one last night for Taylor and they're excited. They're excited
to be a part of this and it's it'll be fun.
I got to ask you when when you get in there,

(02:29):
will it bring back will bring back memories? Well, yeah,
what will be the theme of your speech? Do you
know yet?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
I don't know yet. I know readiness is so deeply
rooted with the blue collar mentality and just the hard
work that it takes to get everything done and to
tie that in. I had a chance, you know, it's
cool for me. I had a chance last year to
take my oldest son down to a game and you know,
he sat there and enjoyed it all.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
And it is.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
It's one thing in the atmosphere at the pit tomorrow
night with with Moeller going into Elder that's a top
ten atmosphere that you can have. Fine probably across the
nation at times, but there is something to be said
about small town high school football and how the whole
community gets together and comes out and it just makes
it very special. And I look forward to the most

(03:13):
of that when when I get a chance to get
back to Redding for sure.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Well it's funny you say that, because to be ones,
you know, one thing about Redding is prideful, you know
what I mean. I mean, there's a lot of pride.
And it's very interesting because we do about fifteen pep
rallies a year at Neighborhood Skyline Chile's. We've been doing
them for fifteen years. And man, you can tell the
communities that, no matter what, support their high school. And

(03:37):
you're right, Redding's won out in Cleves. It's tailor. I mean,
it's the same thing. But you're right about the Molar
Elder and I wonder how many people realize this about
that game too. Molar has won eleven straight GCL South games,
which is incredible. So if they win at Elder tomorrow,
they'll have won four straight league titles without a loss.

(03:58):
Think of that, But think about this Elder has not
won the GCL South outright. This is stunning to me
because they've got a great program. Doug Ramsey's an outstanding
coach since two thousand and eight. Think about that.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Insane.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I mean they share it with Saint X a few
years back and then you got to go back. This
is the best start for Elder six and oh since
two thousand and three. I mean, and Molar's really good.
But I'll tell you what Elder that came East that
their quarterback is outstanding running the football, passing the football.
And you know, they maybe don't jump off the page
at you with a ton of like you know, Blue Chippers.

(04:35):
They just know how to play. If Doug does a
great job and keeps it, keeps it within the confines
of what they can do, and I think that's got
the potential to be a hell of a game at
the pit.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
You know, I've been watching a lot of high school
and Elder got a huge win at Saint X last week. Uh,
tough back to back and I think st X has
to go to host Trinity now, which is not an
easy thing for them. But there's a team that I
feel like isn't getting talked about enough, But you mentioned Princeton.
They beat Lakota West this year. Early in that game
against Molar, they were having their way with Mohler and

(05:05):
they roller kind of found their footing a little bit.
But how how valid it is Princeton from what you've
seen and the type of noise they can make, I.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Think they're pretty good. I mean, Andre Parker's done an
outstanding job there and they've been in GMC contention. I
think they're gonna win it. I don't see them losing
a GMC game. And you are correct and the other
one and people talk about them, but the other one
is so dominant. I think if you were to ask me,
I think a lot of people would say, well, Moler
talent wise, and they got Matt Ponatowski obviously, the reigning

(05:37):
Ohio mister football. They made it to the state final
last year. But I can't see anybody stopping Anderson, I mean,
at least getting back there. I mean they are absurd.
I mean from week one, Cooper was down eight to
three at halftime, well fifty two to ten. I mean,
they just the pace and the tempo, and they've got
so many They're so talented on both sides. Of the

(05:59):
ball and got studs. I mean, so I think Anderson Princeton,
Anderson plays Turpin, which Turpin's having a good year. I
mean they're four and one in the league, so was Kings.
I mean King's only loss is to Anderson, and it
was close early and then Anderson just doesn't stop. I
mean they're really really good too. I think Princeton's good,
Moler's good, x Still has a really good defense, Elder's good.

(06:23):
I mean, there are a lot of teams, but I
think the team that the two maybe unless Elder really
shocks me Friday night. And again, I think they're really
really good. I think Moller might be a little bit better.
But I think it's Molar at D one and I
think it's Anderson at D two.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
How many years now? Is this for the showdown.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Twenty eight to long time my friend? Which means a
couple of things. One, I'm old, yes, but it's but
you know what it really means is it is just
the interest in high school football. It's still there. I
mean it's it's still there and people love it. And
it's again, I know there's all the focus on the Elders,
the Molers that say X with the Lakota West, the
Princeton and Anders. But it's the small schools like how

(07:04):
about North College Hill, they're six and oh, how about
the running back Lance Cancreel at Talawanda, who's among the
nation's top rush He's got fifteen hundred plus yard Dominic there,
I know he a great job as coach. Are right,
Dominic is there. He's been with Andy and that kid's
run for over four hundred against Taylor Week one, he

(07:26):
won over three hundred. Another week twice he's been over
two hundred. I mean it's and he didn't even play
last year. I mean it's it's but it's that kind
of stuff to me. And I mentioned you know nch
being six and oh, there are always you can always
find the good stories in high school football. To me,
that's what makes it so interesting.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
And you always just feel that it does it. It
feels like, you know, at the college level, college game
day rolls into town. When you guys roll into town,
it just makes that game and that week feel bigger.
You guys do it right throughout the week. It's not
just showing up on Friday night and doing it for
those interested, whether it's tomorrow night, reading Taylor or whatever
the schedule is going forward. How can they find out

(08:04):
more information with everything he got going on?

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Yeah, we do it on social It's at Xtown Showdown
on x and Instagram, and we'll have score updates. We'll
have video Mark Slaughter who's a great videographer. We brought
him onto the team last year and he provides video
for Fox nineteen and Joe and Jeremy do a great
job with the final quarter with the Showdown game each week.
But it's at Xtown Showdown and we'll have anything and everything,

(08:28):
interviews leading up to it during the week, and coverage
the night in the game, and of course some exclusive
video from your pregames.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
R Let's go tom The Showdown is unbelievable and keeps
getting better. So appreciate everything you're doing for high school sports,
and certainly appreciate you taking some time for us today
and for making the trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Absolutely one of only two grass fields still, I know
what the other one is, Uh huh, North College Hill.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
We might water that baby down tomorrow. Let's muck it
up a little bit for the Blue Devils and the
Yellow Jackets.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Well, you better get the sprinklers out, brother, because they
ain't gone a ring. It's all good. I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
I appreciate Tom. We'll see you tomorrow night. Thank you.
That is Tom Gamble from the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.
We'll keep moving along. Next the SBN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
