It's the Lockdown Podcast network, Yourteam every Day. A lot of time
is spent before the draft talking aboutthe first round, the second round,
Well, what about the guys goingafter that. Let's talk with our friend
Mike Venner about some Day three prospects. You are Locked On Bengals, your

(00:29):
daily Cincinnati Bengals podcast, part ofthe Locked On podcast network, Your team
every Day. Hellout Bengals fans, and welcome to a bonus episode of the
Locked On Bengals podcast with our guyMike Venner, who's doing the draft show
for the Bleacher Report. Is thatright, Mike, that's your next thing
this week? At least that iscorrect. I will be on Thursday,

(00:52):
Friday, Saturday, Thursday show's Preyjam Pack. We have Micaeh Parsons and
CJ. Stroud alongside myself, sothey really, yeah, blew the budget
on them and then had to gofind some guy to go talk about the
draft. Well, Michaeh Parson's renownedanalyst. I loves to make his opinion
known. I'm sure that will bevery entertaining and some good stuff with Micah.

(01:15):
Are the rest of the guys thatdid the be our big board also
doing that with you No, Soit's just me and then day two and
day three is going to be me, Michael Felder and Adam Lefko. So
awesome. Yeah, looking forward tothat. So if you want to check
out Mike and his work, that'sthe next place to find it over on
the Bleacher Report shows and right hereon Lockdown Bengals. Second time, third

(01:37):
time you've had you on in thispre draft process. I think second second.
Yeah, And the last time wetalked to you was shortly after the
Senior Bowl. Talked about a varietyof prospects, but one thing that we
haven't talked a lot about on thispodcast is the guy's going after the first

(01:57):
round, after the second round. And so for little bonus episode, little
extra piece of content for our ourfollowers here in our audience here before the
draft, let's talk about some ofthose later round guys and we'll go position
by position a little bit here. When we talk to you after the Senior
Bowl, I remember one guy youmentioned in particular was a corner, which

(02:21):
was child Smith Waite. We'll getto corner, but let's start with wide
receiver. The Bengals took a topthirty visit with Josh Cephis from UTSA.
Are there other guys and also Cephisthat you think are guys that are undervalued
on Day three? So cefhas definitelyfits the sort of tal void mold in

(02:45):
terms of, like that's who you'relooking to replace with. He's very much
a slot only, bigger body, great hands, savvy dude, just not
explosive. He's just not going tothreaten anyone vertically. But I mean he
only dropped play super heavily featured inthe UTSA offense, only drops like five
passes his entire collegiate career or somethinglike. He was very sure handed and

(03:07):
has a little bit after the catcherof the middle of the field. So
I think a guy that you know, obviously no one that you're getting day
three is probably gonna immediately fill Tylerboyd shoes, but some guys that you're
trying to just get reliability out ofat that point in the draft. So
I was kind of a fan ofhis tape. But this is a good
I mean, it's a great receiverclass. The one guy I keep going

(03:28):
back to that'd be a great Ithink he might follow a Day three just
because of numbers in the slot isJalen McMillan, the Washington wide receiver who
like he reminds me so much likenot so much of Tyler Boy, but
like there he's much more similar thaneven like Cephasis from a movement skills perspective,
like he can not only is savvyand has like the things you want

(03:51):
from a slot receiver in terms ofsure handedness in terms of ball skills,
but then he also can create. He can also get off the line of
scrimmage. A little skinnier dude notlike play strength and great, but he's
willing to take hits and he playedslot primarily this past fall when he was
healthy for Washington. If he'd stayedhealthy, the guy probably would have been
a Day two pick, but Ithink falls Day three because of the injuries's
pasture. Another guy that had aTop thirty with the Bengals, a guy

(04:14):
that they've expressed some interests in,A guy that I'm probably going to mock
to them with. Maybe they're compensatorythird ninety seven in what I think they
will do am I predictive mock ifI don't land on a second round receiver,
which I think is also possible. They also spent some time with Jacob
cohing out at Arizona's pro day.Anything on Coing or Marcus Roseamye Jackson who

(04:39):
looks like a blocking type. Hedoes he is. That's probably the fairest
description because man is not an athleteand the man is I mean, I'd
put my movement skills in my primeon a similar part to Rosemy and Jack
Saint. He's just his big bodyand another guy who's great hands. That
seems like they have type in termsof like reliability to trying to bring in

(05:01):
to just guys who basically, youknow, Joe Burrow doesn't need guys to
be necessarily open to make plays andthose that's the kind of receiver Jackson is.
Rosemary Jackson is like he can makeplays when he has guys draped down
him because he's so long, greatball skills, but I know he guy's
just he's not going to get openon his own, so kind of like
that third fourth option that you're notgoing to complain about, and if someone

(05:27):
forgets about him, he can stillmake a play. The Bengals can to
go more athletic and wide receiver. So while I was looking for a guy
who could block, maybe he justgets crossed off. The list for that
reason. He maybe and he reallyis not athletic. I don't remember his
testing numbers off hand, but itwas like somewhere in the four to eight
range. He ran the forty,so not four eight one and the ras
of sixteen point eight or one pointsix eight. Yes, that tells you

(05:51):
all you really needs to know. But Coing opposite on the spectrum in terms
of slot receivers, amazing at gettingopen on his own truly, like a
high end athlete just has vertical elementto his game, can get himself open
kind of at will. Is similarin some ways to Tank Down that he
has really great feet. But Ithink the biggest difference between him and Tank

(06:13):
Dell and why I'm not going tobat for him as highly as I did
tank Down again, tank Dell's topfifty player last year, I'm coeing the
back end of my top one hundredthis year. Small frame, you know,
taking long arms for a size Coingsub seventy inch frame, I think,
and he had play strength just likeif a guy's on him, you're
not going to see him make alot of players at the catchpoints. So

(06:34):
it definitely add some dynamism to youroffense. If you want to throw him
like screens, if you want tohave a jet sweep guy, he can
do that, but he's he's goingto be limited by that size to the
next level. Yeah, it lookslike all the measurements are below the Bengals
thresholds of one to sixty eight fiveeight less than thirty inch arms. He

(06:56):
does hit the hand side threshold,so he's got that going for him at
nine inch hands, but which TroyFranklin and Zavior Worthy don't interestingly enough.
But they're going to have to makean exception somewhere. He was productive from
a very young ages. Perhaps oneof the reasons they're interested there. They
love guys who have had a longperiod of college production. Let's switch gears.
Let's talk about some trench guys herecoming up next. Today's show is

(09:16):
most likely going to draft a receiver, but in a class that seems to
have some really interesting depth that interioroffensive line. I want to talk about
some of these guys too. It'salso a class where everybody's twenty three year
older. It seems, outside oftwo prospects or the top round prospects at
each position. So all these guysI think are a little bit older.
But I think we've talked to youabout Jackson Powers Johnson after the Senior Bowl,

(09:41):
so we're not going to go there. But guys like Zach Zenter,
guys like Christian Haynes who had agreat Senior Bowl. Tanner BORDERLINI from your
alma mater. If I'm not mistakenin Wisconsin, not my own mater,
my home state, though home state, my bad. I knew you're a
Wisconsin guy. What are your thoughtson the depth for the interior offensive line

(10:03):
class. I think it's a specialinto your office line class. And now
there's maybe one guy who's like atrue interier off the lineman that could go
round one, Jackspower Johnson's like reallythe only one. But there's so many
tackle to guard converts in this draftclass that or tackle the center converts,
and guys like maybe even Grand Bartonfrom Duke Troy Futanu from Washington could make

(10:26):
that transition. That there's a tonof talent and there's a ton of talent
that could get pushed on boards becauseof that I have. Man, I'm
trying to think of how many guysI have now in my in tier offline
class that are top fifty. Iat Cooper Bebee, the Kansas State Guard
in my top fifty, Zach Fraserthe West Virginia Center in my top fifty,
Christian Haynes the Yukon guard in mytop fifty, Dominique Puny, Kansas

(10:46):
Guard in my top fifty. Like, that's a lot of top fifty guys.
They're not going to go round onethose guys that I just mentioned,
but in the second round those are, in my opinion, all immediate starters.
And yeah it's an older a lotof those guys are twenty three,
twenty four, but a lot ofthose guys have also you know, like
Cooper Beebe's situation in dominic Puney situation. Like those guys were good before this

(11:09):
year. It wasn't like a oh, the white switch just came on.
It is those guys just playing goodfootball and just wanted to stay and maximize,
you know, their time in collegefootball. It could have gone out
earlier and still been higher draft picks. So yeah, I'm a big fan
of this interior office line class. And then there is some depth into Day
three. Now, obviously day threeoff of the linemen, it's a crapshoot

(11:31):
anywhere you're looking on Day three, but I think especially interier off the line
or just office line in general, because NFL is pretty good at identifying the
athletes that can win there. Butbecause there's so much talent, I think
it's just going to push down somenames into Day three. And I do
really like Tanner Bordolini is the isone guy who I would love to develop,
maybe not necessarily for the Bengals becausehe is really a zone scheme undersized
center, and there's a handful ofthose, but maybe someone like a Cedric

(11:54):
van Pran the Georgia center makes moresense for the Bengals and what he can
do in a gap scheme. Soit's a good class to be a need
of one, and I hope theBengals at some point take one. Meanwhile,
we're all looking for the Bengals totry to get more athletic, find
some athleticism. I know they've gothuge guys on their offensive line for the

(12:15):
most part right now, but maybethat's just a product of building your offensive
line through free agency for the mostpart, where those are just the guys
that have been the best players oftheir positions available. Let's talk a little
bit about some offensive tackles as well. We talking about tackle to guard or
guard to tackle or who knows wherehe's going to play in the NFL.
Brandon Coleman stands out as one ofthose, and I'm curious to get your

(12:37):
thoughts on where Roger Rosegarten and BlakeFisher will get drafted before we talk about
you know, Javon Foster and someof the Day three early Day three tackles,
because I know what you think abouttrying to find offensive lineman on Day
three. Yeah, Coleman, Iwas. I was pretty underwhelm my tape
this past fall. Honestly. Imean, the guy's a high end athlete.
You've said you want to get moreathletic keys, a guy that can
obviously do that for you and whilenot giving up kind of the ethos of

(13:01):
the Bengals and being like a powerrun team that they were this past fall.
So I do think that he hasboth those things to his game,
but just his hands are really bad, and I was just really unimpressed.
His tape the year prior was better, but I think he's at minimum a
guy that has to kick inside andfrom there. I still do have some
worries and think he could be aguy that falls to Day three because of

(13:22):
that. Who was the other intier offline that you asked me about.
Davon Foster would be the other Daythree guy, and then Rosen Gartn and
Fisher for some guys that are probablygoing Day two. So Foster, I
really like he was right at theback end, just outside my top hundred,
just because I do think he's kindof capped in terms of his impact

(13:43):
and the next like I don't thinkhe's ever going to develop into a high
end starting tackle, but I thinkhe can't start and minimum you know,
if you're the Bengals, he canbe a swing backup because if you're the
Bengals, off the line and chancesare you going to get hurt at some
point and he's going to need oneto fill in. That's everyone, that's
everyone, that's everyone in the NFL. He's one of my favorite. Just
like, drop him the fourth round. He can fill in for you.
It's not going to be a completeliability when he does. Maybe never gonna

(14:07):
be a quality star for you,but a guy that at that point in
time still will have value in whathe brings the table. I think he'll
go though, like fourth round, whereas I think Rosengarten and Fisher their top
seventy five picks and probably closer tothe second round than the third round if
I had to bet right now.Just movement skills, and especially with Fisher

(14:28):
in that he's young, which isunique in this class, only a junior
coming out, and his end ofhis junior year was by far and away
his best tape. He actually gotbenched against Louisville midway through the season,
like kind of two thirds of theway through the season. Bench the end
of that game, he came backand I think he allowed like two pressures
of the rest of the season, like five games. He was that lit

(14:48):
a fire arounder him and his effortand his down to down consistency was much
much improved. And I mean,this guy's a five star recruit. I
think it was the number one alignin that class or number two aligned in
that class, just never quite hadthat. It never quite developed the consistency
after getting injured as freshman year thatyou would like to see. But his
tools are such that someone's going totake a chance on developing him. So

(15:11):
I think he goes that Rangel roseGuard is one of my faves. He's
the top forty guy for me.Yeah, I Hi met thirty six on
my final draft board. He's likeTroy Fautanu but just a little weaker.
I'll say, like Fatano is likesolidly built, yeah, but moves exceptionally
well and has incredible hands. Rosengardenmoves so well. I mean he's testing
numbers the combine. That's what yousee on the football field in this pass

(15:33):
protection. But he's just not aphysical dude. He needs to get a
little stronger, but only a fourthyear guy in the class full of six
years and fifth years he did.He could still develop physically and a blind
side protector for left handed Trevor Pennix. Sure at Washington, did you watch
any University of British Columbia tape whenthose guys emerged? Giovanni Manu did not

(15:54):
get on the UBC tape just rightacross the ocean for me? You know,
So those guys are you get there? Were you in person scouting them
grinding the day? You know Icould have been if I had known about
them before the pro day, couldhave made the data trip. Let's fift
youres. Let's talk at defensive sideof the ball, interior, defensive lines,
some corners, maybe even a safetyto finish up the show coming up
next. This episode of Lockdown Bengalsis sponsored by Better Help. Better Help

(18:07):
fandel America's number one sportsbook. Youlook at Dame Brugler's The Beast Big Board,
and some of these nose tackles thatwere getting drafted early on Day three
in a lot of mocks are likeround six, round seven grades. There's
nothing a nose tackle in this draftif you were to go by The Beast's

(18:30):
estimation before late day three, andthat's kind of the way the NFL draft
values nose tackle in general. Butthis is a position where the Bengals is
spent a ton of work. Theyhosted Mason Smith, they brought in McKinley,
Jackson, Evan Anderson, to VandreSweat before his DWI, even Justin
Rogers from Auburn. If he's anose tackle, you can imagine the Bengals
had some contact with him, sendingtheir defensive tackle defensive line coach to Northern

(18:53):
Iowa's pro day. They had JawanBiggs from Cincinnati and for the local pro
day. I mean, these area lot of nose tackles tights. Who's
your favorite among the day three defensivetackles nose tackles? Well, yeah,
I think you already mentioned him there. And when Tavadrous Sweat got this DWI,
I was like, this is thebest thing that could ever happen to
the Bengals. Yeah, because I'mgoing to pick him as a result.

(19:14):
If you don't think I think wasfor their m for forever was that they
didn't care about guys drafted guys likethat. That's the pre Zach Taylor era.
Okay, because I mean he ishis topic player on my board.
His tape is is the best likepure nose tackle tape I've seen since Vita
Beya in terms of just like NFLtranslatability, like Jordan Davis obviously had more

(19:37):
tools to get drafted highly, buthe wasn't the down to down impact run
defender that Devon Sweat. So Ithink that's like, if you're a Banks
fan, still your dream obviously,DW I your thoughts on that, and
if you want to think on yourteam, that's your own opinion. But
you know, Dak Prescott had topre draft Dwi, and it's something that
you can obviously learn and grow fromand doesn't necessarily say who's going to be
as a pro, But it's him, and then it's a chasm. Is

(20:00):
why I say that, Because heis good. There are not any other
dts. The next note, theonly nose tackle I have in my top
one fifty is Christian Boyd from NorthernIowa. And he even him I do
worry about. Is he really likean impact like a guy who can hold
the point in the running game, hold up to double teams. He was

(20:22):
more of a guy who can winone on one, is skilled with his
hands, has good natural coordination fora guy that size, but they still
worry about him being able to reallyhold the point. It just isn't that
guy in this class. Unfortunately, some of the names I'll throw out though
that did intrigue me in one wayshape or for him. I think Evan
Anderson, the fau Nos tackle.I thought he was just like at least

(20:47):
had some stoutness, and he playeda couple Power five teams this past fall.
Off the top of my head,I can't remember exactly who they were,
but in those games he at leastcould hold up to double teams,
at least has that aspect to hisgame, has the ability to really be
a line of scrimmage, you knowholder, even if I don't think he's
ever going to impact the passing gamewhatsoever. The other one is Fabian Lovett,

(21:10):
the FSU DT. He doesn't havethe heft, it was like three
fifteen, three sixteen, but he'sa guy to be intrigued by, you
know, seeing how much more weighthe could put on because he's kind of
got a trim frame at three fifteenand really is a guy that very strong
upper body can control, you know, a guy one on one. You
saw him when he did have thoseopportunities, a guy that can you know,

(21:33):
stack and shed right at the lineof scrimmage, but just not really
nose tackle size at the moment. But I thought he had the tools to
develop into one at the next level, even though he's kind of older twenty
four years old also, so it'snot a good class those are Those are
kind of the names, and youknow, they don't seem like they'd be
massive upgrades from what the Bengals havein the roster. Unfortunately. Do you

(21:56):
see any upside with Jordan Jefferson. He's the best way athleticism combo that I
see when I'm scanning our list ofdefensive tackles. So he to me was
more of a three four defensive endthan actually a Nostow okay, And I
just thought at his size, itkind of like how high cut he is,
gotcha that I would struggle to puthim on the nose, But I

(22:18):
think it could be, you know, Zach Carter's role. I think he's
by I see him as a kindof like a similar sort of prospect too
in terms of like strengths, weaknessease. Even though I didn't love Carter coming
out, Carter just gets blown offthe ball too much. And that's why
we're talking about no cackles so muchfor the Bengals. Let's quickly wrap up
with a couple of Corners, Quantes, Stiggers and Dwight mcglothern, a couple
of guys at the Bengals had someinterest in that could be Day three guys

(22:41):
and Stiggers in particular, a CFLprospect, perhaps not as well known.
I know you mentioned you enjoyed watchingthat too. It was I hadn't flipped
out CFL tape in my life. The Ultwity two. I've like caught some
games like here and there, butI didn't realize like the coverage they're playing
obviously, it's like so wildly different. He's kind of just like a cloud

(23:02):
cover two corner vast majority of snaps, just like staying in the flat.
I thought his juice was good, like you see, really good suddenness,
explosiveness and body control. I thoughthim. I think he picked off like
five passes this past year, andyou saw him easily able to adjust to
balls in the air that you know, or maybe on his back shoulder,
and he could still go up andget a hand on it. So I

(23:26):
like those aspects to his game, and I kind of like his story.
Man. He was a He's aguy who went to a really really small
high school that didn't have you knowa competitive football program, so he didn't
get any offers. Ends up playingin a fan controlled football league in Atlanta,
and the coaches there sent his tapeto the CFL. Got signed to

(23:47):
the CFL last year. So he'sonly a fourth year guy, four years
removed from high school, having justplayed a couple of years of football and
put up really good athletic test number. So you know, in a class
that I didn't love a lot ofthe days corners, I take that chance.
Now, is there like six round? I take the chance. Yeah,
it's not taking that too much higherthan that, but definitely entreating guy

(24:07):
mcglotherin, though I think he goeshigher than six round. I think someone's
gonna covet his skill set because hehas some of the best zone instincts in
this draft class in terms of seeingwhere the quarterback is gonna go with football,
knowing how to bait him. Theywould play a little Cover four special,
which is when it's like Cover four, but when you get an out

(24:30):
route from the slot he's the outsidecorner. He comes downhill on that,
making it turn into like Cover twoand then the safety comes over the top.
He was awesome at Banting Court. He baited Jane Daniels into a pick
on that exact coverage, and hejust knew exactly how to time it.
I loved how we like midpointed guys. I don't love him as a pure
man match corner dangles don't to aton of that obviously, though, so

(24:52):
I think for the Bengals he makessense in those zone instincts, play in
what you know lou An Rumo wantsto do. He would be a bit
of a departure from their recent trendsat corner where they've been drafting a bunch
of athletes in the secondary in general, and he did not have the athletic
testing that quantest diggers, even aguy like cam Hart might have had for
some potential Day three targets. ButMike appreciate the time here talking about some

(25:15):
Day three guys and go find hisdraft coverage at the Bleacher Report here coming
up in what day is it?Tuesday? Just a couple of days here
for this year's draft. Mike appreciateit for sure, Jake, they sure,
