(00:50):
a selection in the twenty twenty fourNFL Draft. Alongside Lockdown College Football host
Spencer McLaughlin, I'm t nitri Vitisand we are joined by Deck Lisco of
Lockdown Bengals to break down the Bengalsselecting Amarus Mems with the number eighteen Pickser
Jake Joe Burrow has been one ofmaybe the most banged up, beat up
(01:10):
qbs in the league over the lastcouple of seasons, So how important was
it for the Bengals to send helpfor Joe Cool? The Bengals were looking
for help offensive tackle today and theway that the draft went with four off
the board. We were kind ofholding our breath as a pick approach,
looking at Bira Murphy and Amarus Memsas the top two options as far as
what we thought the Bengals would do, and we saw a cliff after a
(01:33):
Mariusmin's a tackle. So there's abit of a sense of relief for my
perspective, at least when I'm thinkingabout what would be best for Joe Burrow
and the Bengals. I think thereis a drop off from Amarus Men's who
will be a natural right tackle forthis team, and Troy Fatani who goes
to the Pittsburgh Steelers a couple ofpicks later, And so for me,
I'm a fan of the pick.It was our highest rated tackle still available,
(01:53):
perhaps the last true first round offensivetackle option, and they have options
at tackle, Trent Brown being thefree agent acquisition that allows Amarius Men's to
get some experience in the preseason andtake some time to develop if he needs
it. He was very inexperienced atGeorgia, obviously missing a lot of time
with injuries, so he has anopportunity to learn a little bit before he
(02:15):
needs to get onto the field. But that combination of size and athletic traits
is tantalizing for an offensive line inCincinnati that has never had that kind of
upside in Joe Burrow's tenure. Now, like you said, limited experience,
but also Amarus Mims was part ofarguably the best O line in the nation
at Uga last season and really thelast couple of seasons. But when you
(02:37):
see that in him, what doyou think having an experience like that with
a program that focuses so much onhaving good guys in the trenches, what
can that help for Mems to bringto the table. Well, it looks
like he's already pretty good despite theinexperience. There's not rawness to his game.
There are some areas obviously that needrefinement. I think most tackles coming
(02:58):
out of college need refinement, especiallythat you pick at eighteen. But for
a guy that hasn't played as muchas Amarius Men's, has missed time in
college and didn't get those reps,he looks very aware in past protection.
He understands a lot of what defensesare trying to do to him and trying
to do to the protection scheme thathe's a part of as part of that
unit in Georgia's front. So theBengals like to go to these big programs,
(03:21):
they like to go to college footballplayoff teams. They do that again
with the Marius Men's where despite theinexperience, what is on tape with a
very impressive college football playoff game againstOhio State in twenty twenty two for example,
being part of that portfolio. Formens there isn't necessarily the kind of
rawness you would expect for a guythat's played as little as Men's has played,
(03:44):
and despite that, he still hasthe upside. And so you compare
him maybe to a guy like TylerGeyton, who has a lot of athletic
traits, has great size and similarlevel of inexperience. But to me,
he looks like he needs more refinementin terms of hand placement, in terms
of some of his footwork at theend NFL level, where Men's looks a
little bit more developed at least inthe passing and passing part of his game.
His past that's look pretty developed tome. But more on the Bengals.

Spencer He's absolutely right, Amary's men'slimited in having nine stars, I think
total at uga and yet is oneof the best offensive linemen out there.
What do you think makes them sogood? He's the Josh Allen of offensive
tackles. You know, there's justa raw element or a raw amount of
(04:33):
traits that you can't teach. He'ssix seven, three forty to Nietri.
You can't coach that. I don'teven know how you raised that, Frank,
I don't know where you buy clothesfor that kid growing up or in
college. That's got to be anightmare. And I mean, I don't
even talk about what has got tocost to feed him over the years.
He's probably taken in two three thousandcalories an hour, perhaps. But that's
(04:56):
what makes him such an intriguing NFLprospect is the prototypical tackle size. He's
got the height and he's got thesize. If you just coach him up,
if you get his technique to berefined, if you are able to
keep him in the sort of playingshape that you need, no reason he
can't be a really really high endNFL offensive tackle. For continuing coverage of
