Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ten away from four o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty.
Typically Chad Rendle's with us on Thursdays, but whatever, it's
a weird week. So I asked Chad to join us
today because there's a there's a lot to discuss. Bearcatjournal
dot Com. Hi, Chad.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
There's been a lot of weird weeks lately.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Though, Yeah, there has been. Yes, that's I'm done with
the weird week.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yes, I just want a normal I want a normal week.
Here's also what I want. I want to be doing
my show and then in the middle of it not
get a press release from UC announcing that a basketball
player is going to be out indefinitely.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
That was that was not great yesterday, mo. I thought
we might have but we might get through a day
like fairly unscathed. And then at you know, four fifteen
or whatever it was that hit yesterday, and it was
it was scathed. The day was scathed.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, all right. How big of a loss is Jalen Hayes?
And when I read in definitely should I fear that
this could be a season long thing?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Uh? It's a big loss, A big loss, especially because
I think with or without Jalen Haynes. I think this
is going to be a really good team. Defensively, I
think Jalen Haynes was going to be a guy that
could help them on the offensive end substantially. He wasn't
a traditional I people see his size and think like

(01:28):
old school back to the basket, throw it to him
and get a bucket. There was some of that to
his game, but he had a lot more than that. Offensively,
he could catch it at fifteen feet and drive. He
could shoot the little fifteen seventeen footer. You could run
offense through him because he was a really good passer.
So I think offensively this is a pretty big blow

(01:50):
to Cincinnati. I don't think they particularly specifically know yet
how long it's going to be. I was kind of
calling some of my friends around the country to get
a feel for some of this. I had a friend
of mine that's an assistant in a Power five league,
Power four league that said, they've got a guy that
they think they could get back in December, and that

(02:14):
guy my red shirt because he's gonna miss two months.
You come back in conference play, you only get two months,
why not red shirt? And then you get this year's
payment for your services. And you get another year next
year of payment for your services. So I think that's
something to watch out for on this too. Like, if

(02:36):
this is something that goes into January or February or
whatever it is, does it make sense for Jalen Haynes
to maybe say, Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna get back
to one hundred percent and we'll do it again next year.
So I possibly yes, Like maybe the injury keeps him
out that whole time, maybe he decides a red shirt

(02:58):
is the best way to go. But I do. I
think it's something that mentally you got to prepare for
and that West Miller and his team has to prepare
for that it could be a season long thing.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
October fifteenth and we're already talking about this.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
They do play Michigan on Friday, I'll be able to
watch this on like Big ten plus two some version
of the Big ten network.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I can watch this on on Friday.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
It's on Big ten plus with that, which I think
is like fifteen dollars a month, So.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
I gotta pay fifteen bucks much pay fifteen bucks once?
Do you see play Michigan on Friday? I believe so
if I decide to do this give me one or
two things I should be looking for.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Well, Michigan might have the best player in the country,
so that's something you can pay attention to. Is how
to Cincinnati handle Yaxville Lindenborg. We were like, hey, go
get that guy.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yes, yeah, he might be the best.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Player in the country. Yeah, so he'll be really good.
And then it'll be interesting to see how since that
he handles him on the interior. I'm gonna be very
interested to see in how some of the rotation book.
I know it's an exhibition game, an exhibition game a
couple of days after they lose what was going to

(04:13):
be a really important piece of their front court rotation.
But and here here's the name though where he's not
getting a lot of talk yet. But I think, especially
if this injury lasts for an extended period of time,
I'm really interested in Jordi Rodriguez because I think he

(04:33):
can help this team. He was He's from Spain, played
in the in their their top league, also was on
the national team with Boba Miller. I really like what
I've seen from Jordi Rodriguez. I've liked what I've heard
from people that have been there every day. I think
if there's an increased role, that's a guy that might

(04:55):
be able to capitalize on it more than anyone. And
he can really really shoot the basketball. And I would
like to have as many of those type of guys
on the floor as possible.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
It's twelve ninety nine a month. I got to pay
thirteen bucks to watch UC versus. I'll be in in
Oklahoma City for the game against Oklahoma State. Maybe I
can get Hord and Pike to chip in and we'll
pay the thirteen bucks to watch the game.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Well, I will be there in ann Arbor.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Oh perfect.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Can you like hold your follow me on Twitter?

Speaker 1 (05:30):
I'll follow you on Twitter, Gret. What if i'd like
just text you, like intermittently during the game.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Uh yeah, I'm down with that. You know. I'll update you.
Maybe maybe we can FaceTime. Yeah, and I'll give you
some of the action. I don't know where they're gonna
sit us. Yeah, I saw it was in section like
two hundred something. M hm. So I'm probably not gonna
have the best of you, but I'll be there.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I'm very good. I have two more questions for you.
One is basketball related. You know I came to the
West Miller media availability today. Yes, because I am hopeful
that we could replicate what they did in Boston where
the Celtics coaches drubbed Boston Celtics media in a scrimmage
fifty seven to four. And I was trying to find

(06:17):
five dudes in that room that we could put on
the floor against the Bearcat coaches.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Would you be game?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
I'm game? I mean I Keegan. Would you know Keegan's
probably gonna be our best bet for an athlete? Uh?
He was. I don't have you know this one? Not
Keegan played juco baseball.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I did not know this.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
So, so he's an athlete. Well he's a catcher. Okay,
so he's kind of an athlete. He's athlete a Jason.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Now, by the way, Tran Tarn has volunteered his services,
so you know we Arran would help.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
I've got Corey Evans. I'll guard Corey very good.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
We'll work on that for me.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Uh, football's not gonna lose to Oklahoma State, right, I
wouldn't think.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
So I got to answer our guy Jeff that f
F car had me on one of his shows and
asked me if this was a trap game. I said, Jeff,
I think the trap game was last Saturday.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yes, I agree, you're.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Coming off of Kansas and Iowa State. You got a
talented but underachieving, a little bit Central Florida team. It's
a rivalry game. Cincinnati didn't play great on offense, Like
I thought, that was the trap game. I think this
week Oklahoma State's just not very talented, and they'll play hard,

(07:38):
and it's homecoming and it's the night game. I wouldn't
be surprised to see them hang around for a little bit.
But this is a much much, much more talented Cincinnati squad,
and I think their trap game, their sleep through game
was last week against Central Florida. I think Oklahoma State
will have their undivided attention. Dante Corleon mentioned they still

(08:01):
remember Ally Gordon running for what was it, four hundred
and eighty three yards that like two years ago. It's
still water, So I don't think this is going to
be a look past the opponent game and Oklahoma State
is pretty bad.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
How how much will I have to pay to watch
the Arkansas exhibition? That to pay the SEC network money too, so.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
That's on SEC plus. Oh but as long as you
have like the ESPN yeah thing, uh huh, you should
get that. That's just far to b SPN.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
All right, so I'm looking at thirteen bucks.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yeah, and I'm sending Kegan to Arkansas.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Okay, very good.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
So we'll have somebody's there too, because the Bearcat Journal,
that's what we do. Mom.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
I was hoping that the radio flagship of the Bearcats
would would perhaps broadcast those games. But I'm spending thirteen bucks.
I guess on Friday to watch that till we'll fall
You on Twitter?

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Thank you as always. I appreciate you changing your schedule.
Go ahead, hold on.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
You have the luxury that nobody else has. What is
that you can put the game on your phone and
have Dan Horde call it for you.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
This is an excellent idea.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
And I don't know if Dan is listening, but his
Friday night plans have now been made for him.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Ni Chad, thanks thanks Mike.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Do that, Chad Brendel, Bearcat Journal dot co A thirteen
bucks for Big Day. What do you get on Big
ten plus for a month to watch all the Wisconsin
Iowa football? You want to watch Luke Fickle standing on
the sideline, that's fun. Here's some Nebraska. Nebraska volleyball matches
are a big deal. Good watch those Robert wintroubs usually

(09:52):
on Thursday, but he's going to be on Wednesday next
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station under approval NMLS
