Speaker 1 (00:00):
On Wednesdays, we chat with Richard Skinner from Local twelve
Local twelve dot com and h he's got an x
account at Local twelve Skinny about the Bengals. How you doing,
I'm good, mo.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
I'm well. I want you to uh, I want you
to pretend for a second that you have chosen to
embrace the world of legalized gambling. And you're gonna make
your first wager ever. Would you wager on T Higgins
playing or not playing on Sunday? Oh?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Man, I don't know anything about this gambling stuff. I'm
gonna wager on him playing. Yes. I thought today it
was a good step that we All we did was
seem one on the side rehab field, but he was
listed as limited, and I think that's a great step forward.
You know, I don't know how effective he may be.
Will it be mostly decoy stuff? Will he actually contribute? Listen,

(00:50):
there's no doubt this team is far better when T.
Higgins is on the field. So get him on the
field any way you can. And I think he's probably
the stage two where maybe if he's not even one
hundred percent, but to where it's not nagging him again,
he's playing for his football free agency future here, right,
and so he needs to show that he can be
available to play and then when he plays ball out

(01:10):
like he's done for.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
The most part this year, how long is the least
for some of those interior offensive linemen.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Until they get hurt. I mean, I literally think that's
what it is, because you're not gonna put a seventh
round rookie in there at center. You're not, you know,
you really, I guess you could float Cody Ford back
to guard if if Orlando Brown win, Orlando Brown come
back and play and play left tackle. But we actually
asked Dan Pitcher that today and he said that he

(01:38):
thought they were getting getting some good play out of
those guys. Not all the time, and it's not been perfect.
And certainly, I mean Alex Kappa, who I really like
is a person, but I mean he literally got steamrolled
on that two point conversion. You know, certainly the guy
hits Joe Burrow in the in the face, but get
him in the face because he got steamrolled. And so
if there was more depths, then maybe you'd see a

(02:01):
move made, perhaps at somewhere in the interior. But there
just isn't a better solution.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
To be honest with you, I would ask, and I
would want to know if if they're getting good play
from those guys, what does it look like when they're
getting bad play from those guys?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
A good question. You know they're not going to roll
anybody under the bus. And I will say, Hitch did
him in the hall a little bit. He was searching
for the right thing to say. Trust me, he didn't
talk about them playing at a Pro Bowl level by
any stretching imagination. But again, I just don't. There's just
not a better solution on the roster. And they're not alone.
I mean this league right now, the offensive lines for
a lot of teams, just especially when you have to

(02:36):
get to depth pieces, it's bad.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, no, there's no question about that. Did they demonstrate
on Thursday night a slight lack of confidence in Evan McPherson.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
No, that's a great question, because obviously he could have
kicked the field goal to put him up twenty four
to twenty. I do believe that they thought, Hey, the
way this game is starting to trend, as the defense
started to melt down, we got to score touchdowns. We
can't just go get three here and they come back
and score touchdown. I think that was part of the
thought process. I truly believe both Darreon Simmons when we

(03:09):
talked to him a couple of weeks ago, that he
doesn't lack confidence in Evan. Zach has literally said he
does not lack confidence in Evan. I don't think that
was the case of it. I think it was really
literally them going a field goal is nice, but it's
not nice enough. We need to score seven. And unfortunately
the sequence of plays that took place before that didn't
help either. But yeah, no, I do think they still
have confidence in Evan McPherson.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Do the explanations as to why they take Mike Hilton
off the field on third down and near the goal
line makes sense to you?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
No, they do not. I talked to Mike a little
bit today and he said he understands it. Listen, getting
up there in years, he said, and you know, maybe
it's a chance for them takes the snaps off me.
I said, but Mike, you know, some of the issues
that's been talked about have been communication issues, and it's
probably one of your strengths. I said, have you lobbied?
He said, I'm gonna do what the coach tells me
to do, but he kind of gave me a rif smile, like, yeah,
I'm trying to get myself back on third down. And

(04:00):
in probably lous the other day, I think he was
back to open to that idea. I understand why he's
trying to get some guys snaps. He's trying to again
take some snaps off of Mike. But but you know,
when when you've got so many other issues in that
secondary and Mike's the if you had to pick pick
five guys in the secondary, the two outside Corns and
two States and Mike Hilton, go who's the least of
your problems at the moment, you know that would be

(04:21):
he might be Mike Hilton.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Yeah, he's the most dependable player in the secondary and
the second most dependable player on the defense, and they're
taking him out on critical, uncritical downs. It doesn't make
any sense.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yeah, I think they feared because earlier here there were
times where might look like a guy who, Okay, this
might be the last year's career. And I think they
probably recognized that at that point and decide, all right,
let's let's get some snaps off of him. But as
you know, because he I think ever since Mike came
back from from the little injury he had in the
Carolina game, I think he's played some really really good
football and really consistent football at that point, and maybe
at that point you go, Okay, we don't need to

(04:54):
worry about this any longer. This guy's fine. And I
wouldn't be shocked on Sunday if you see Might come
off the field far far less.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yeah, that would uh, that would make sense to me. Well,
think about that wagering thing. It might be something you
want to want to explore and tap into and let
me know if you do. Okay, Hey, is it?

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Is it legalized anywhere?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah? In in Ohio? I'm not you know, you live
in Kentucky. I'm not sure it's made its way to
the Bluegrass. But take a look at it.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Okay, I'll look at this gambling.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
You said, right, wagering, Yes, legalized, wag Okay, all right,
let me know. There you go. For Richard Skidder from
